Reviews of Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita
I highly recommend going here if you have an emergency. Our old pup was struggling when we got home and we rushed him into the emergency vet due to our regular vet not being on call that night. I was able to fill out paperwork to get checked in in advance before we got there. We got there and we did wait a long while before they were able to get to our dog but they took great care of him and us when they got around to us. We knew what then outcome would be going into the emergency vet but the nurses and vet took great care of us and our dog in the process. She recommended what we already knew what we were going to have to do. We agreed and she helped me fill out the paperwork and rubbed my back as I was crying because saying goodbye is never easy as so many pet owners understand. She moved us to a private room and they brought our dog to us. They let us have as much time alone with him as we wanted before having to say goodbye. They were so gentle with him and treated him as if he was their own personal pet. We said our goodbyes and they handed us a clay imprint of his paws and helped us walk through the steps of the cremation options. Very gentle, kind hearted people and honest. They didn’t even run any unnecessary tests just to make a few extra hundred bucks. They were very straight forward with what needed done. We hope to not have another emergency but if we do we will be coming back to here. I really do highly recommend.
The doctor was very compassionate, but I didn’t like that I had to leave my dog there and couldn’t stay by his side so he wouldn’t get scared. Sadly, my dog (Ozzy) didn’t make it 😭. I do believe they did their best to save him, and were able to keep him comfortable till I made it back to be with him. Thankfully, I was able to hold him, say goodbye, and be with him, but ultimately, the doctor recommended a compassionate euthanasia. Letting go has been so painful 💔. I found comfort in the guidance they provided me though. The doctor gave me a warm hug. Also, they mailed me a very nice card with their condolences. You don’t realize how much those little things matter till your dog passes. They don’t take all the pain away, but do really help.
This place displayed so much compassion and professional friendly service to me when I was in a panic rushing my dog to them. We didn’t know at the time but later when I transferred to another vet we found out my dog had severe pancreatitis. Before the diagnosis the doctor and nurses helps my dog receive care throughout the night and got him to be as comfortable as he could be and they helped inform me while I was barely holding it together. I recommend this location, they were amazing. He overcame and he got to become a big brother this Holiday season! (He looks sooooo happy lol)
I'm an ER nurse and my husband is a flight paramedic. We are no stranger to medical emergencies. Then our fur baby had seizures tonight and we didn't know what to do. We were scared and shaken. We brought her here and the staff was amazing. They immediately brought her back and got her taken care of. She is admitted for the night and the staff has been sending pictures and updates frequently. We cannot thank you guys enough for your patience and kindness! I know our fur baby is in excellent hands.
I am absolutely over the moon about my experience with Vesh and Dr. Heather Millard! Dr. Millard and her team made it possible for my cat Arie to live a normal life again. Arie had a condition called mega colon. After a year and a half of other treatments, we were getting no where but worse. Surgery was the only option for Arie. My consultation with Dr. Millard left me feeling confident and hopeful about the procedure. She explained everything beautifully and was open to every question I had. The follow up, the constant communication during and after surgery were amazing. It was obvious that Dr. Millard truly does care. We are two weeks out from surgery and my Arie is healing beautifully and feeling like her former self again. I am forever grateful for the amazing service and experience that I received. I highly recommend Vesh and Dr. Millard!!
I made an appointment with Dr. Winter to take a look at my pup’s teeth that were wearing down.
The receptionist was very kind and helpful, she did not panic when I told her I was deaf. She simply pulled out some paper and wrote down what I needed to know and was very communicative on what was happening and what to expect.
Dr. Winter was very kind, knowledgeable, and clear on expectations and options. We had a great, nonjudgmental discussion on what items are hard on her teeth and what are ok to give her to chew to keep her teeth as healthy as possible. (Her teeth wearing down was absolutely my fault, I was giving her bully sticks to chew which caused the issues.) He was very gentle and careful with my pup.
The technician who checked us in was awesome also, very kind, and very clear on my options, the pricing, and took her time discussing options to find a plan that fit what would work best for my pup and I.
When I picked up my pup, the technician took her time to go over the discharge instructions and made sure I understood what to do and what NOT to do, to make sure my pup is taken care of the way she needs to be taken care of, post-operatively.
Everyone was fantastic at communicating everything despite my being deaf and everyone understood that my pup was nervous around new people so they all respected her space and if they had to handle her, they took their time. Would definitely go back as they have the animal’s best interest in mind all while making sure owners are comfortable with everything! 💛
The entire staff was kind, compassionate and helpful. I took my dog Buster in when he was in very bad shape, severely dehydrated and low oxygen levels. They did everything they could to find out what was wrong with him. They always asked permission before running tests/radiographs. They did surgery and fixed him. Dr Millard and the team saved his life. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
They helped our little Melvin and they are the sweetest people around. Very caring! Update: we went back for checkup and he is doing great. Dr. Heather Millard is the best and so knowledgeable. She saved us a ton of money with unnecessary tests and cut right to the chase. I couldn’t be more grateful for her! Thank you again:)
I have had some less than desirable experiences with the ER Vet in the past. But I will tell you that this weekend, the surgical team and Dr Heather Millard came through and saved my 15 month old baby’s life.
Dr Millard was compassionate, accurate, genuine and precise every step of the way. She diagnosed something no one else could and went in and spent 90 minutes inside of my baby trying to find out what was causing the issue. She ended up removing over 100 stones from his bladder and urethra. She could have Taken the easy way and performed an Urerthrotomy (new urine hole) and left my sweet boy having to relearn how to potty. But her skill and experience told her to try one more thing before she went that far. She called and asked permission to try this first. I’m so glad she did. I could in all confidence say do whatever you would do with your dog and know my baby was in good hands. And the last ditch effort was it. A much less invasive surgery and my sweet boy still pottys as he did and is whole. After surgery I was given a cell number to call or text as needed. She answered day or night and within literal SECONDS.. I can never thank her enough for what she did. Ever. Her surgical nurse Jeremiah has the patience of Job. I called every 3 hours and he was patient and kind. I wish I could find both of them at a local vets office for regular care lol! They were that amazing!!! Dr Millard. We love you, literally. Thank god for you. Like I said. You’re now our favorite person! Megan and Dino!
They got our dog in quickly after being attacked by our other dog. They gave her great care in a timely manner, and ensured us we could call and check on her at anytime. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. The front desk staff, the techs, and the doctor all put our mind at ease she was in good hands and they were going to get her taken care of. We came in about 6:30pm and our sweet girl was home before midnight. I don’t want to have to ever be in an emergency situation with our dog again but if we ever are I would definitely come back.
I had a very scary experience with my dog. Brought her here as they were the only place open on the weekend at the hours we needed. We were VERY impressed. The facility is clean and doesn’t feel like a dark place, it’s very open and light, which makes being at an emergency vet more comforting. The vet techs were knowledgeable and you could tell they were serious about their jobs, which lets be honest, must be extremely difficult. Knowing that this was a corporate emergency vet office may make you think they are money driven but their pricing was very reasonable. I was able to have my dog come in for a full exam and get an answer as to what was going on for $150. They offer Xrays and bloodwork as well. The vet we saw, Dr. Erin Menze, was very professional and compassionate with her services. We could not be more impressed with them. They treated us as they would their own pet and I am so thankful we were able to have our pup seen by them. Thank you to ALL of your staff, your services do not go unnoticed!!
Brought my dog Teddy here specifically to see Dr. Heather Millard for a surgery consultation. She was his surgeon for previous procedure to remove tumors. When a check up showed the problem was back, I was heartsick to learn Dr. Millard was no longer practicing in the Kansas City area. Found her fairly close by in Wichita and VESHW got us in quickly for consult and surgery. They helped get his records, took great care of my little guy, and kept me posted on his progress. I knew Dr. Millard was the right doc for this health problem and we were happy with our experience at VESHW overall.
Thank You so very much for being there when my older dog became suddenly ill and had a seizure. Not only did they treat her and get her stabilized, but they calmed me down too. I really appreciated the time they took and they were able to offer me different treatment choices. There were techs available to help and they were all very nice.
Going to the emergency veterinary is something we don't plan on, but if it happens, this is the place to come to!
They knew exactly what was wrong with our puppy and gave him lots of love before he was sent home to sleep it off. We’re super thankful! Thank you to the sweet people working there!
My kitty was hospitalized for 6 days with a urethra blockage. They were super nice and took very good care of him. They allowed me to come in and sit with him as long as I wanted to. I have previously had another one there for PU surgery due to a urethra stricture. His care was excellent as well. I cannot say enough about this hospital and all of the doctors and staff. It saddens me that they are so short staffed. I wish there was a way for me to help. They truly go above and beyond to make sure your pets are taken care of with highest quality care. It is a place you definitely don't ever want to have to be, but when you do, they are amazing!
Very happy with our recent surgery my dog had for a torn CCL. Dr. Heather Millard explained the surgery thoroughly before, followed up with me during the surgery as well as after we were home. I was very impressed with her expertise and with the friendliness of the entire staff! I would give this place more stars if I could! Thank you to Dr. Heather Millard, Dr. Brock, Nurse Mallory and Kelli for taking great care of my dog. If your pet is in need of a surgery service, this is definitely the place to go.
Our cat, Luna, became sick over the weekend. On Sunday we took her to the hospital. Everyone was extremely efficient, friendly and helpful. She was diagnosed with bladder stones and treated for pain and nausea. We were able to bring her home the same day and we followed up with our vet today. We appreciated the genuine concern for Luna and the great care she received.
We were in Wichita for thanksgiving and our dachshund Casey became very ill. We googled er vet & found you. From the moment I walked in with Casey, who was Obviously distressed, we were treated kindly, professionally & quite quickly. Dr Ward spent time explaining his assessment and plan for the next 24 hours, making sure all my questions were answered.
Again, when we came to pick her up, Dr Ward explained her discharge care thoroughly & with much compassion. He asked that we let him know how she’s doing when we returned home.
We were very pleased to have brought our dear Casey to this hospital!
My vet here in Lawrence gave me the bad news: the lump on my dog's leg was cancer, and she had a tumor on her spleen, too. He said, "If anyone can save her leg, it's Dr. Millard in Wichita. And while I think most vet surgeons would first take out the tumor on the spleen and then see how that goes, Dr. Millard might do it all at once (to spare my dog two recoveries and surgical costs) if you're okay with it." Dr. Millard in fact agreed to do both surgeries at once, and she was sure she could remove the tumor on the leg while keeping the leg. Everyone who worked there seemed very caring and interested in helping my dog as much as possible. Everything, including the cost and my dog's probability of surviving, was made clear to me before surgery, and I was kept apprised of how things were going throughout that long afternoon. I picked her up on a Friday, all four legs still there, and I was given great instructions. Dr. Millard even asked me to text pictures to her cell phone on Sunday so she could see how the sutures were healing. Fast forward 1.5 weeks later: Dr. Millard called me *while on vacation* to let me know the lab reports had come in and both tumors were benign. My dog continues to make a quick recovery, and I'm just so happy that a surgeon's with Dr. Millard's skill and caring was in driving distance. It's true that the cost did make me think, 'I should have bought pet health insurance.' But I recently had cancer myself, and when I look at *those* numbers for surgery, and imagine not having insurance for myself, I wonder how the cost for vet surgery is so low. So no vacations for a few years, but my little pal is tumor free and sleeping peacefully beside me now. I wish everyone could be as fortunate.
My son Winston, a 17 year old Dachshund collapsed on Saturday evening and couldn't stand upright on his own. We were called in after a couple hours, and they were so kind with my boy. While I wish the news from his diagnosis was better, I am just so thankful they helped him and were able to get him moving again.
This is the first review I’ve ever left in my life (that wasn’t a favor to someone) but I just had to. My husband and I brought my cat Kovu in in the middle of the night because he suddenly couldn’t stand on his hind legs and the whole staff was incredible. They were polite, kind and extremely compassionate both with our boy and us. I can say they went above and beyond to help us as best as they could in our situation and I’m very grateful for them, their work and their treatment towards us and our cat.
I can't say enough good things about Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita. They were so kind and prompt with answering my questions on the phone and then getting my dog in ASAP. They communicated right away with my dog's vet as well so by the time I was able to call the next morning, they knew exactly what had happened and were prepared to see my dog. I am so thankful for them!
Thank you to Dr. Millard (both of them), Dr. Mueller, nurse Jeremiah, Kelli and Tori for alllll of your help with my doggy Marley!! She was hit by a car in December and survived, she was stabilized and underwent surgery for her femur, 6 weeks later we unfortunately found a diaphragmatic hernia and had to have that repaired as well. Thankfully we were able to workout something financial to have the second surgery. Hope we never have another emergency but this crew is amazing!!
First of all - the receptionist I talked to over the phone was so calm and reassuring. In my mid-panic, it was so nice to hear her voice!
The staff and caregivers are patient and gentle with the animals, and it’s obvious that every single one of them cares about our pets. Ex. My cat Buddy loved being there so much they had to take him into the back to listen to his lungs - he was purring so loudly they couldn’t even hear his heartbeat!
While I hope I never have to take my pets back (hopefully they stay healthy for a long time!), I would choose this animal hospital again without hesitation. :)
Call before you show up to ensure they have a doctor available! There have been vet shortages lately, no fault of theirs. I had to wait a few days to get in for my cats somewhat emergency dental so had to go to another vet for his emergency and scheduled the dental with this location for later. I honestly received amazing care when they were available though, highly recommended.
They were very responsive and supportive during my visit. They explained exactly what they were doing, testing and what the results and plan was moving forward. The entire staff was very positive which was awesome. I will definitely use them in the future if something arises with my dog.
We could not have had a more positive experience here for both us as well as our dog Addie. We drove 3 hours to see Dr. Heather Millard so she could be evaluated for surgery. They were able to coordinate with us and everything from the consult through the post op visit went very smoothly. Very highly recommended!
We were really scared for our baby and thought she was going to be put to sleep. They were very comforting and helped save our baby girl and then we didn't have any money to help and a good Samaritan helped and paid for everything. If it wasn't for all the care and love we would have lost her. Thank you to everyone for helping or girl and reminding us that there is still good people in Wichita 💖💖💖
Wow! I felt so heard and knew that my little pup was getting the best of care! They were so kind and gentle with her and they really cared. It was very quick and professional. The facility is clean and really first class. I will not hesitate to go here again,in the case of an emergency, with my animals.
A week ago, we rushed our sweet dog Goose over from our vet. He had a linear blockage and required urgent exploratory surgery that our vet was unable to do. The entire office, from the receptionists to the surgical team, was absolutely incredible! They kept us informed every step of the way (and then some). They treated him like he was their own family. Dr. Millard has texted multiple times to check on Goose, including right after surgery. She has also reminded us that her personal cell is always open to us during his healing in case of any questions or concerns. We are so grateful for everybody involved in his care.
We brought both of our dogs in to the ER a few months back after eating a poisonous plant. Maverick and Goose were seen promptly and treated amazingly. And, as Mom and Dad, we were also treated very well.
I have no concerns about leaving my babies with them, and I HIGHLY recommend them to anybody and everybody! They not only care for your pets, but they have great empathy for you as the owner/family.
I was pretty stressed out and just did not feel like the employees were very empathetic, I know they see much worse over and over again, but it was a pretty cold matter a fact approach. They seemed to take good care of my dog and resolved the matter in a timely manner. Not being able to be in the room and getting no updates also added to my stress.
They did a wonderful job communicating with me the decisions they made as well as how my decisions could impact my pet after she swallowed something she wasn’t supposed to. They explained the risk of each option and gave me their concerns. It wasn’t a fast visit but I felt that I was given time and attention
Very caring, efficient, prompt care of our sweet cat. Dr. Lofgreen is very knowledgeable and took great care of our little guy, also explained everything very well. You can tell he loves what he does and cares for his patients. Definitely recommend.
Once at the hospital the staff was awesome and compassionate. The online preaddmission paperwork that is required to be filled out before arriving at the hospital was both nerve wreaking and stressful. A pet owner shouldn't have to deal with this while their suffering pet has to wait to be treated.
I was thoroughly satisfied and impressed with Dr Winter and staff at the Veterinary Emergency $ Specialty Hospital. My shih tzu needed teeth extracted and Dr. Winter was very thorough in explaining everything to me. The day after surgery my puppy is already back to normal. I highly recommend Dr. Winter and staff.
This was our second visit to the hospital for 2 different pets. Each time their staff showed compassion and caring for our four legged family members. We definitely recommend them when your pet requires the utmost care..
My husband and I had to put our 18 year old mainecoon BABY to sleep. The staff is amazing and very compassionate and caring. I 💯 percent recommend this place to everyone. Thank you so much for taking great care of BABY . …
I was able to get my dog, Gracie, seen in a timely manner. Everyone was kind and I felt like they really cared. They worked with me when Gracie needed surgery and gave me frequent updates. This place is amazing.
This is our 2nd time to need ER services for our fur babiesand both times have been amazing! We felt loved and cared for right away. The picture updates really helped us feel better along the way. If you have a sick fur baby--do not hesitate to bring them here. You feel better and your lil' one will feel better too.
If it were an option, I'd give them 3 1/2.
When I called them to check in, they asked if I'd ever been there before and I told them I hadn't. They neglected to tell me they were no longer on S Washington. I was very frustrated to find they had moved to the northwest side of town. Took me another 20 minutes to get my dog there. I could've saved 40 minutes, had I known, since I was coming from Hutchinson.
Also, was unable to go in with my pet, and checking on her was an ordeal. I was originally told it may be 2-3 hours before they know something, but they'd call and update me. 4 hours later, I had to call for an update, just to find out there was no update. I get they have a triage system, but a quick call or text to send an update (or none) would go a long ways to easing pet owners' minds. We are, most times, sitting in the parking lot on pins and needles, with our minds going in all the worst places! I spent 13 hours in that parking lot, most of it not knowing what was happening.
Their pricing was about par, as far as I could tell.
The tech coming out to get my dog was friendly and had a good, caring attitude. I wished I had gotten her name so I could put it here. Thank you!
Dr. Ward was thorough and informative. I think my highlights, other than my baby being discharged with a prescription for antibiotics, was the tech that came out to get her, and Dr. Ward. Dr. Ward is very explanatory and to the point. The only one I remember talking to on the phone, Ashley, was also very friendly and seemed genuinely caring about my dog.
My kitten had been poisoned and I rushed her to the ER Vet because it was Sunday morning. All staff were very kind and understanding. Luckily, Ginger was helped in time but was dehydrated. I was given a syringe and some medication to help her hydrate.
Our puppy injured her foot at noon on a Saturday couldn’t walk and was bleeding. I called they explained online check-in, kept us updated, got us in and got her cared for. It was expensive but worth it to get her cared for and stop her pain. Thank you!
We took our 10 year old Maltipoo she was diagnosed with a UTI given antibiotics and pain meds. We needed to be seen on a Sunday so we checked in online and they texted us when to come in later that day since they usually see hurt or extremely ill animals. It was nice to be see on Sunday and they treated her and us so good the price was good too. Thanks for your great care of our baby.
I had the unfortunate need for urgent care for one of my dogs at 1:30 am a couple of nights ago. I called and the receptionist helped me with the pre-check in process. My dog was seen in a timely manner, the staff was very kind, patient, and understanding, and the vet tech and vet were very knowledgeable and offered options and solutions that balanced the need for immediate care and things that could be managed once my regular vet opened in the morning. I hope I don’t need their services again, but would absolutely return if I did.
My little Mama Kitty and I were treated with such kindness and caring when I had to bring her in on Christmas day. I was so upset and concerned. She was having a severe allergic reaction and I had just finally tested negative from the Covid I had that morning. The vet tech and the doctor were both so wonderful. They identified the issue and treated her, following up with advice and instructions for her home care. She is back to her very spoiled self now. Also the appointment and check in process were very easy and efficient. Although I hope to never have another pet emergency, if we ever do, I would certainly bring them here.
Great experience! We didn’t have to wait very long and everyone was very kind and professional. They took good care of our dog and explained everything each step of the way so we knew what was happening. I expected this to cost $$$$ but they were very reasonable!
From start to finish these workers, nurses and Dr. Were the kindest and caring I have ever dealt with when it came to animal care. Talked you thru the tragedy and explained the whole way through. I recommend them.
I was very grateful they were open in the middle of the night on a Friday night when my doggie jad a seizure. I was in a panic and I found Dr. Townsley attentive. She put my mind in as much ease as possible. The staff was very kind and helpful.
Great place, Great staff. Veterinary was so helpful and answered all my questions. Very kind and loving to the well-being of each of my dogs. Very educated and great at explaining everything.
October 10th, 2018...
Truly a sad day...
My dear sweet Baylor became critically distressed in the middle of the night...her sudden, shrill scream, moved me unlike anything else I have ever experienced in life.
I scooped her up in a blanket, and rushed her to this Hospital... running red lights and all...
As I carried her limp little body hurriedly through the door, I knew her end had come, much to my dismay...
Before I even made it to the front counter, the staff went into action...
( My sincerest apologies to the staff... for now, not only can I not name those involved, I can't even describe your appearances... except for the fact that everyone involved was wearing scrubs...)
The young lady behind the front counter phoned to the back...
"... unresponsive dog..."
As quickly as the phone was hung up, another young lady appeared, coming from the back... As quickly as she appeared, she disappeared... carrying my sweet little Baylor... I found comfort in her parting words...
"...we'll do what we can..."
Sadly, against all of my will, she returned with confirmation of what I already knew...
"...there was no pulse, nothing we could do..." She offered the use of one of the exam rooms to give me some time with Baylor to say goodbye... I took the room, I took the time... and I cried a very tearful goodbye to the sweetest little friend I've ever known...
I can't put into words how much I truly appreciate the way those staff members on duty that early morning handled this situation. To say that they were professional, caring, and compassionate... would be a gross understatement. Saying Thank You, would be just as inadequate...
My heart truly goes out to my dearly departed little friend, and my hat goes off to the staff at the
VETERINARY EMERGENCY & SPECIALTY HOSPITAL of WICHITA.
Sometimes, Gods mightiest of angels don't have wings and halos... but they are blessed with four paws, fur coats, and wagging tails...
I ask you, my fellow humans...
Have you loved your angel today?
Please do...
Dr. Winter saved my rescue dogs teeth. He can chew a bone again! Dr. Smith was able to do complicated orthopedic surgery to repair a little dog’s broken pelvis. They did life saving surgery to save my cat six years ago before he was my cat. There are amazing doctors right here and they do miraculous work when it’s needed.
Dr Ward and Staff literally saved my girls life. They were so compassionate and gave many updates on her progress. I will never be able to thank them enough
I’ve been to this location several times and they have always been friendly and caring. I love the way they have set up the online check in so you are not in a waiting room for hours it’s genius
Great experience with Dr. Heather Millard treating my dog with her heart defect. My dog is doing well and the doctor's many calls were appreciated. Her explanation of the surgery was detailed and informative. Wichita is lucky to have Dr. Millard as an Animal Cardiac Surgeon. My dog will now have a normal lifespan thanks to the great services at the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita. The facility is brand new and inviting. Thanks for the positive experience I had here with every employee onsite. I can't recommend this facility enough!
Our dog had multiple abrasions on her ear. She was losing a lot of blood and we couldn't get her in to our vet, so we went to the Emergency Vet. We felt like the service was very good and they took good care of our dog. The cost was surprising to us, as we have never gone there in the past. But, when you have a service that is open 24 hours, you would expect higher prices. In an emergency, we would use them again.
The front desk staff was amazing and very informative. Although we had a long wait due to so many emergencies coming in the night we visited they prioritized those very well. Our baby was stable so I didn’t mind the wait. The veterinarian on duty that night was all over the place in a good way. I can’t imagine all that she sees and deals with in a night. She was smiling and in such a great mood when I asked if she’d been able to have a break yet she says “I love my job!!” It was amazing to watch her work and be so thorough. I hope we never need their services again but if we did we would definitely go back.
My husband and I had to lay our first furbaby to rest. The reason for being there sucked, but the staff were amazing. Our case was handled perfectly. The staff were really nice. The doctor was honest with us and gave us options. I feel as if we went anywhere else, we would have been pressured to go with paying a ton of money for our dog to suffer longer. The staff and doctor were very respectful and took great care of our doggie from the time we called/checked in to the end of life. I know it is pricey to go to the ER vet, but i wouldn’t mind paying that kind of money again for how well us and our dog were treated.
There was a long wait due to them being short-staffed with only one veterinarian. The vet techs kept monitoring my dogs vitals and new symptoms as they started, while letting me hold her after her initial triage. The vet was great, and I felt confident in his assessment and plan of care.
I came to them for help because my dog Zuees who was only 5 months old and was really sick. These people treated him with living care all the way to the end of his life. I recommend this place to take your animal to for vet care in an emergency.
I had a great experience. Beagle was constantly throwing up and getting weak. I called at 0100, Did the online portal registration at 0130. Did not get a call until after 8am that they were ready for us. That is my only complaint, BUT, as a nurse I know everywhere is short staffed. Staff was kind and prompt once we arrived. Took a few hrs to determine gastritis, and was ready to leave at 3pm. Wish it wasn't so expensive, but nice clean place, friendly folks, grateful for their help.
Took 6 yrs old cat for emergent visit at 1:30 am. Whole staff was caring and considerate. Caring also noted when others came w/ their fur babies.
Our situation was not critical. Our dog had a sore that would not stop bleeding. The staff and veterinarian was very nice. Especially Dr. Erin. You can definitely tell they all care about the animals. Hopefully we won't have to come back. But happy to that they there if we need them. We know the prices are high here, but at 10:30 at night, what would you expect. The price they gave us was less than we thought it would be.
New puppy had gunky swollen eye, ran in and they took immediate action to help her out. Very pleased with front lobby staff to vet techs and doctors.
This facility is amazing!! We got right in with an emergency. My dog was attacked and they checked her out immediately and made sure I knew she was ok. The DVM Dr Townsley is an absolute blessing!! She was so sweet and loving and reassured me that my baby would be in good hands. I thank God for her and her staff. She saved my Bella! They always made sure I knew my dog was comfortable and not in pain! I highly recommend coming here! Thank you to all the staff! We appreciate you!! You are Angels!!
Had to take my dog Cora to the vet over the holiday weekend. There was a bit of a wait but nothing we weren't expecting since this is an animal hospital. Priorities are seen first just like a people hospital. Cora is now home safe and able to breath after having a severe allergic reaction all because of the staff! Thank you.
They also went above and beyond by letting my primary vet know we has to make a trip in. So by the time the office opened up Tuesday my vet already knew what was going on and had an appt for us. Which was unexpected but greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the initiative.
I am super thankful this place exists, I was in a huge predicament with my in-laws dog I was dog sitting while they are out of state. She became very ill and they took her in, all while being very accommodating to me and Sis (dog). They emailed me the paperwork to fill out ahead, of time. I though Sis was going to need to be carried in, so they came out to get her.. Although it took a long while to see the dr. they came in periodically to check on us, and to let me know that they hadn't forgot about us. They sent me text updates, the dr called me everyday she was there about all of her care and how she was doing. It was a holiday weekend and no vet would answer or able to take here except this place. ❤ forever grateful!
Though I hate having to use their services (I’ve been here three times with two different pets, all emergencies that couldn’t wait for their regular vet), the staff makes up for it with their fantastic and gentle care of my pets as well as being calming and informative to me. I can’t praise the staff highly enough, I’ve even had an above and beyond customer service experience with one of their nurses after the passing of one pet. Yes, it is expensive to use after hours ER vet care but the cost is worth it to get the treatment and compassion they consistently have given me and my 4 legged babies.
Very quick to get us in. My dog got attacked by a coyote and though she was very lucky, she needed sedated to clean out her wounds and stitch her up. They made sure to keep us well informed throughout her stay, they gave text updates each step of the way from the time they began to sedate her through her waking up afterwards and all the steps in between. Because it happened so late in the night, they allowed her to stay until 8am without charging us a hospital fee. They were extremely personable and truly cared about her and us and it was very apparent they wanted to keep everyone as comfortable and informed as possible. I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality, expertise, and compassion.
Upon arrival, was greeted at the door, as my puppy was having a seizure. The staff, as well as the doctor, were efficient and explained to us what was going on with our puppy. Left the hospital and puppy was doing much better. Great place!
We have been to this vet hospital twice with 2 different dogs. We had to wait in parking lot separated from our pet both times due to Covid. I called and now they allow you in the lobby but they take your pet back and you still have to wait in lobby when your pet needs comforted the most. My pet is like my child and I want to see how she is being treated and to be by her side the whole time. I want to see what I’m paying a lot of money for.
Dr. Townsley was absolutely wonderful with Sampson. Actually, the entire staff was great with him. The wait time was a little extreme, but that wasn't their fault. Sam wasn't in life threatening condition and several other animals were. Once we got back there though it went fairly quickly. Dr. Townsley ran by me everything she was going to do before she did it. I hope I'm never in the position to have to use them in a life threatening emergency, but if I am, I would have absolute trust in their care. Thanks ladies!
I took my cat, who was very sick, to the Vet. ER. last night. We were treated with kindness and compassion. The Dr.was quite thorough and concerned. We discussed the best possible treatment for the amount of money I was able to afford.
The staff were all exceptionally kind.
Most definitely the place to go when your pet is not well.
Great hospital. I thought my pup had eaten a grape. Wasn't much of a wait to get her looked at and diagnosed..... No grape! Very friendly and caring group. Thank you!!!!!
Every single person in the hospital was a joy & comfort. I'm sorry I can't remember the Dr's name, so sorry, he was shorter and had a full beard. I wanted to hug him because he put me a ease & calmed me with the way he communicated with me & with JoJo my 8 week old Yorkshire Terrier.
They have always been very attentive, i just recently lost a dog and they were there for me, they are bit pricey but it work out fine, they need to make the payment plan a little bit more easier for people to get , maybe my dog would be a life if I had been approved
My little dog, Mitsu, has a large mass in her abdomen, so my regular vet did an x-ray. He recommended surgery to remove it, but let me know that he's not board-certified. So I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Millard at Veterinary Emergency Hospital to see if she could remove it. She spoke with me(consultation), then had a sonogram done of my Mitsu's abdomen. Found out that her spleen is enlarged, so now I have her scheduled for surgery next week. I have been happy with everyone at the hospital, knowing my Mitsu has received great care. I'm confident that she will be in good hands next week during her surgery.
The staff was great. The doctor was thorough with our dog. Great place to go if you have an animal emergency.
Excellent customer service! Absolutely love Dr. Erin Menzie ,DVM my new Wichita go to Vet! Life in the wheat fields in the Heartland of KS .
Such a great establishment and outstanding staff. They were all very compassionate and understanding which really helped calm my nerves. I can’t say enough good things about this place!!
The nicest staff ever. My dog had a messed up paw and dr heather fixed him right up on our first visit. So helpful and wonderful
Great care and communication from start to finish. Timely attention to my cat and to me. My second contact with this clinic, and they really care for your pet.
Reached out to me immediately after my text message to them and seemed very understanding and caring towards my puppy in need. I highly recommended my friends to visit them during stressful times!
This is the second time the vet clinic has saved a member of my family. In 2016 my pug Loretta had pneumonia. If it wasn't for this clinic she would not have made it through the evening. 3 weeks ago our other adorable 9 month black pug Petunia had a ruptured abdomen wall due to a spay surgery. I called ahead. Although the waiting room was full they were ready and expecting LilP. They took her back immediately and triaged her. Within and hour we had a full update and within 2 hours we had seen her said "goodnight" and knew there was no where she would get better care. Yes this vet clinic is expensive but you get exactly what you pay for. Excellent, professional, quality care. I now have them to thank for keeping 2 beloved members of my family safe and healthy. thank you!!!
The Dr and staff are amazing and so considerate they take time to explain and thanks to them Pepper is much better a long wait but they work as fast as they can and emergency s are handled as fast as they can possibly be Thank you all for your service
They did an amazing speedy job, even while we were figuring out how'd we pay they continued working.
Overall a great experience with them! They were very timely, communicated well, and took great care of our dog!! People who complain about the prices…yes it’s an emergency vet and they are open 24 hours a day with all in house services. That service comes at an increased cost, but very reasonable in my opinion. Thank you for taking great care of our dog and getting him back home to our family in good condition!
So thankful to have this place in Wichita! Had a major scare with my little puppy on the weekend and would have lost her if it wasn’t for them being open! They kept me updated and told me the cost up front which I like. Staff is very friendly and I had a great experience. If you have an emergency please come here!
Our Labrador was having ear issues on Saturday and your staff got him right in early in the afternoon and diagnosed his problem and he is on his way to recovery.
Thank you again

Our Labrador was having a breathing issue the other day so we scheduled a consultation with the clinic to see what could be done and by the end of our visit we figured out what needed to done and they were taking our Labrador back for surgery.
Our Labrador is back home and is 100 percent better than before.
Thank you again for fixing our baby.

Super communicative, staying in touch with me constantly through the whole process. They were open about their pricing, offering to send me to less expensive places. Ultimately I chose to stay with them to examine my cat. They explained each step to me in very clear terms. The Veterinarian was very kind and sent care instructions with me. Everyone was kind to my cat and I. I even discovered (the day after) that they had removed a matted section of fur on my sweet kitty. Above and beyond on all fronts!! I definitely recommend them!
It's a hard place to go, I imagine any who spent an extended time in the building would agree with this. I had to go over this last 4th of July holiday weekend. Most primary vets were closed, and the place was packed. Critical case after critical case was being brought in. These people were swamped and still responded with a kindness and understanding that many other vets lack. I was also on a very limited budget, and they worked with me to get the maximum amount of care for the lowest price. Long story short, they saved my friend and treated us both well. They have amazing staff that care. 10/10 would recommend going if you must.
We had to take our puppy Charlie to urgent care at 2:30 am on a Sunday morning, and the staff was great through the whole process. They were upfront with all costs (luckily we have pet insurance, so we didn't have to worry there!) and stayed in touch throughout the day with pictures when we had to leave him behind to be monitored. Highly recommend!
Brought my cat Mooney in because he had been attacked by dogs and the staff and vet were amazing. The entire staff were kind, gentle and a pillar of light during a horrible time. They let us stay with Moon after he passed but wrapped him up so I could see his still perfect face and none of the injuries. They took paw prints and even cut his whiskers for me to keep they were so respectful and understanding. Even a couple of days later when I spoke with them about the exam the vet did afterwards and final arrangements they were gentle and kind.
One of the most expensive places I've taken my animal too, but it's one of the most caring. Had an emergency with my German Shepherds tail after she'd had 2 surgeries on it. We drove an hour and a half to the ER Vet at 11:30PM and didn't get home until 5:45AM. They took great care of her, did a thorough workup on her, wrapped up her tail, and offered to dock it for us. Only issue is, I was charged $45.15 for what they called a "Simple wrap" (which if I'd have known it would cost almost $50 to wrap my girl's tail I'd have done it on the side of the road myself), and they asked $1,500 to dock it but only about 5 inches. Of course, I'd expect to pay that if I were to visit the ER, just because it's an emergency service. Over all, they did great with our girl, and we only had to wait in the parking lot for about 10 minutes!
Little pointer too: If you end up needing to take your animal here, call and check in. It took me 15 minutes to check her in over my phone. If your baby is in an emergency, you probably don't have time to fill out the questions, so just call.
They were super busy and it was a holiday when we needed to visit. The convenience of the online check-in was priceless! Even though we still had a little bit of a wait once we got there, the staff went out of their way to accommodate our fur baby and make sure he was as comfortable as possible. They did an amazing job addressing the issue, treating accordingly and getting us on our way!
My wife and I took our labrador April 26th to the Veterinary emergency and specialty hospital in Wichita he passed away about a 1/2 a mile from the facility. We just wanted to compliment the staff there on how incredible, empathetic and compassionate they were in our time of sorrow and loss. We really appreciated their efforts and their character. We spent a few days afterwards working on our grief and beginning closure. When we returned home we had received a sympathy card from the staff. We were overwhelmed by the sentiment. What a wonderful thing for them to do.

My dog was experiencing labored breathing and lethargic. He is being treated for a heart murmur and fluid around his heart. We went to Emergency in the middle of the night and the staff got my Odie in to the facility quickly for evaluation. Protocol kept us in the parking lot for awhile and then we were sent home until tests results came back. He had pneumonia in his left lung, given medication and we were called to pick him up. Pretty smooth procedure.
I had such a great experience with Dr.Heather Towle Millard. She was kind, very detailed, and explained our options. Dealing with a French Bulldog can be very difficult due to all possible complications but she definitely showed that she truly cares about her patients. I sincerely appreciated her time and knowledge.
We have used them twice in the past 5 or 6 years. 1st time they saved our Teacup Chihuahua from HGE. This past Thursday was our second time when our German Shepherd, Sasha, had possible heat exhaustion. Even in the current COVID climate, they were fast, helpful, informative, and very compassionate. We could not thank them enough for what they have done for us.
Update: We had to take our Chihuahua to them on NYE. They took great care of her and kept us well-informed of her diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress. Estimated costs were presented clearly and explained fully. Once again, our little girl is on the mend. Thank you so much!
Amazing and kind staff. I rescued a kitten who I only had for 3 days and they made me feel so comfortable and they communicated with me clearly and helped me understand what was going on with her. She sadly had to be put to rest but they made the whole process comforting and quick for me and my baby. Thank you to everyone who helped me through the process ❤️
The night staff was so very kind and made sure that every chance they could, they would let me know how my baby girl was doing, since COVID restrictions doesn’t allow parents in hospital. I was so nervous about that, but boy did I ever sing a different tune later, they updated me and made me feel so calm. They took such good care of Lexi and were a true blessing. And they know what blessing they did for me. I want to say, they made me see that there are still great people in this world!❤️❤️ They didn’t try to scam me AT ALL, exact opposite! This is definitely the place to go when you have an emergency or specialty need! Huge shout out to Katherine, Kristina, and Dr Amy!! Thank You all so very much❤️ God bless all of you❤️
While it was a busy night there and the wait was long (I can’t believe there is only one 24 hr emergency vet in all of Wichita!), I really appreciated Dr Ward’s careful research on what to prescribe my dog with chronic kidney disease. I felt like he went above and beyond in helping me find where I can buy some of the medicine I’ll need for her. Really appreciated his help and explanations on everything.
We were very pleased with the care our sweet dog recieved after she had an allergic reaction to her rabies vaccination. We signed in while driving and were seen immediately upon arriving. This is actually our 3rd visit to the emergency vet. We have had a positive experience each time.
My 80lb black lab had suffered from worn out knees for the past year. The surgery team performed a TPLO surgery on her left knee and after some recovery time she is back to her old self. So thankful for Dr. Ralph Millard and his team! Great service and they provided excellent care for our dog. Everyone who works there has a passion for animals that they love to show. Would recommend to anyone
My daughter and I came in distraught after my dog ate something that could kill her. The entire staff worked hard to make sure my dog lived and that we felt secure in her recovery.
They gave me detailed notes about every step of her care and they saved my little dog’s life.
We have been here many times unfortunately (no one wants to have to take their animal here, but sometimes you need to). That being said, the work these people do is amazing! They have saved our pups countless times. This visit was no different (2 dogs got into toxic foods). It is sometimes a long wait but it has always been worth it. This was our first time to their new location. The new building is gorgeous and so much more welcoming. The waiting area looks 1000% more comfortable. If you find yourself in a pet emergency, this is the place to go!
Dr. FAWCETT was excellent and the staff took immediate and great care of us. The extreme high prices made it impossible to receive all recommended treatment but they did help us by giving us some donated meds and recommendations to lower priced vetinary clinics to go to. Thank you.
The care our dog received was professional, caring, and respectful. They kept me and my husband updated throughout the day on the condition of our dog. Everyone from the receptionist, to the vet tech, to the veterinarian was great! Please keep in mind that they are an emergency hospital so if your pet is not in critical condition it might take awhile for them to be seen and treated which we feel is understandable and acceptable. The day we were there they had over 50 critical animals in their care. We were also surprised and pleased with the cost of our dog's treatment. If an emergency occurred again we would definitely go back to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita. Thank you to all the staff that helped us with our sweet pup.
We’re very patient with our situation and gave us excellent care and help when needed they did amazing
First of all, we love Dr. Mallard. Her skills and bed-side manner (she did a video call after his surgery to update us, she sent a personal instruction video for therapy and recovery instructions and checked on us several times) are amazing. Her assistant, Mallory, was kind, good with Tango and projected a very caring nature. A year ago Dr. Mallard did a TPL surgery on our dog Tango and he recovered completely. She was practicing at Blue Pearl in Overland Park at the time and after surgery cautioned us that he could also injure his other knee. A year later he tore the other knee, so I reached out to schedule surgery. The clinic informed me she was practicing at the Veterinary Emergency and Speciality Clinic in Wichita, which was great for us because it was much closer to where we live. Tango is four weeks post-surgery and doing fantastic. Thank you Dr. Mallard and your amazing staff for providing excellent care for Tango and giving him his mobility back. You’re the best and we wouldn’t go any place else for surgery. All the best to you and your amazing staff … Tango, Dedra and Bo
We visited Dr Winters regarding dental care. He and his team did great work. I really dislike that he’s part of this hospital but that’s just the way things are.
The staff was amazing!!! We arrived around midnight on a Friday evening and everyone from the initial secretary to the techs to the dr was so pleasant and helpful.
We thank the doctors and nurses who took very good care of our baby in her final moments. We thank God you were there for her and made sure she was with us till the end. Their communication with us was top teir and they kept us in the loop at all times. We hope we never have to come back with our other babies but if we did I have full trust that they will be taken care of as their own. God bless the people who work here 🙏
Our dog, Ellie, passed away at home on Christmas Day evening. The next morning we called the Veterinary Emegency for advice on what to do with her body. The gal who answered the phone was so sympathetic and helpful, telling us our options. We did go ahead and take her there for them to care for her body. The paperwork was emailed to us ahead and was very simple. We did not have to wait once we arrived at the facility. The employees who came out to our vehicle were also very kind and compassionate. We could not have asked for better treatment.
I have a 12 year old golden doodle that just clasped late at night and I rushed him to the emergency room where we were met by a very caring staff. Once we got in everyone was really informative and kind. They took my dog immediately to be reviewed by the doctor and put us in a patient room to wait. Once the doctor was done analyzing my dog he came in to talk to us. He was a very caring doctor and seemed to have real concerns and care for us and my dog. Once we were released with our dog the doctor even called me the next morning to check on him. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of care for their animal (s).
This was my first experience with any emergency vet (thank God) I had looked up reviews of this particular one before and knew it would not be cheap. The staff was very friendly and understanding that we were concerned for our pup. The wait was VERY long. I signed up online and didn't come till I received the text from them. We got in right away but then waited for an hour (hour and half) in the exam room to see the doctor. I'm sure some emergency probably came in that was more urgent then my pup but I was still concerned for my pup and it would have been nice to be check on and updated. The cost I thought was reasonablish. He didn't need xrays or labs or any of that stuff. They then called his regular vet to make sure they were aware of the situation and checked on Conky a few days later. I guess my only complaint was the wait in the exam room. Staff was great.
If you go, your pet will get good care, but the wait times are ridiculous. They took my pet within 15 minutes of arrival. I had to wait another hour and 1/2 because they were waiting 'for an exam room to open." seriously? The place wasn't that busy.
When I finally got in I sat and sat and sat in an exam room waiting for the doctor. He came in we discussed the issue with my pup, the doctor was very knowledgeable and helpful. Then they brought my dog in. And we sat and sat waiting for someone to return to take the dog for tests.
When they did finally come, I left the building for a few minutes, came back. Then my dog and I waited and waited and waited in the exam room. No one checked on us to see if we were okay or if we needed anything or if we were even still alive. It took several 'call button' pushes to get anyone to come to see what it was we needed.
Finally, the good doctor came to talk about test results, again, very caring and knowledgeable. Answered my questions and helped me make decisions. So much appreciated.
When we left we'd been there 4 1/2 to 5 hours. That is way too long.
Staff was very friendly and courteous. Very helpful and Knowledgeable and was able to get my pet in fairly quickly. Seeing them was able to get my dog feeling better very quickly and did a good job easing my worries mind.
I’ve always had good experiences with this emergency vet, my recent visit was no exception. My pups jaw sometimes gets out of whack when he eats but he can normally get it back himself pretty quickly. Not this time. The staff was wonderful with communication, setting expectations and the wait time was not bad seeing as we came at shift change. My pup fixed his jaw himself prior to being seen, taking this into consideration, they didn’t charge the exam fee and referred us to Dr Winter-the dentist. I am very pleased with the experience and highly recommend them.
Entire staff was kind and respectful to both me and my dog. They treated my dog quickly and kept me informed every step of the way. Loved this place, would visit again any time, absolutely amazing experience during a very stressful time.
My boy Skipper broke his leg and had to have emergency surgery. They got us right in and did a very complicated 3 hour surgery. He is still recovering but I felt very comfortable that they were caring for him like he was one of their own. They were great about giving very clear recovery instructions. It's going to be a long 8 to 10 weeks recovery and we are hoping he has a positive outcome.
I like the on-line check-in feature, as we live 45 minutes away from the hospital. It sped up the process once we arrived and was easy to do. The staff at the hospital have always been courteous, kind and respectful.
Absolutely one of the most positive experiences we have had at a Vet Emergency Hospital. All of the staff were so kind and caring. Dr. Michelle Townsley is amazing and was knowledgeable in the treatment and care of our little girl. Everyone was so friendly and professional. Service was provided in a surprisingly timely manner. We can't thank them enough for the care that they gave us!
VESH was helpful in explaining my dog's needs to me, and they showed compassion and calmness in a situation that had me exceedingly shook up. I felt they took excellent care of my injured dog, and I am grateful.
Staff was friendly- I appreciated their text updates with pic while my dog was there overnight. While expensive I felt they had great service. Pickup directions could be more clear but overall would highly recommend Dr. Heather Millard.
Overall, I felt like the emergency did a good job at taking care of my cat. It did take a while to get seen and to get treated, but that’s expected with it being the only emergency vet, so hats off to the vets there that take all of these emergency patients. I imagine they are always pretty busy. The vet and receptionist were very friendly and explained what they were doing with our cat. My only disappointment was that I would have like a little warning on the cost of the entire procedure as it ended up being $300 more than what was originally told (granted the original cost was the fee for the tests). This visit was extremely expensive, considering we have had the same exact tests run by our normal vet for less than half the costs. I assume this is because of the emergency aspect of it. Overall, we felt like our cat was well taken care of and they did their best to get our cat back to us as soon as possible.
Our dog was having an emergency and they got him right in and began life saving procedures on him immediately. I felt that the staff were patient, kind, and honest. Would definitely recommend them for emergency care and use them again.
Thanks for saving our pup Jaden's life, and extra thanks from Lexi Baiul...his lil owner...
Confused that it is more restricted and difficult to do business in an animal hospital than a human beings hospital. They did a good job stitching our pup up, but he has nothing for pain and is really hurting. Only provided a antiinflammatory and antibiotics. He was attacked by another dog and has nearly a 3 inch suture on his neck and is only 19lbs. He is whimpering and in pain, we are icing and trying to keep him as comfortable as possible.
My dog was having seizures while my vet was closed so I brought her in. They were very clear with instructions and with what to expect regulation wise so I didn't feel like I had any surprises. I felt like they were very professional and cared about the overall well-being of my dog. She is on a long road to recovery and I am grateful for their help. The Dr. was great at explaining what he thought the issues were and what options we should take from there. I loved that they text me throughout the night letting me know how she was doing and what they were doing with her. I knew she was in good hands and appreciate all they do throughout the night. Thank You!
We had to take in our Zoey for multiple seizures. The staff at this hospital is amazing! I felt assured that my pet was in great hands at all times. They always took the time to explain everything they were doing for her and we even got pictures with Zoey twice a day. Thank you for taking great care of my baby!
Our baby Mini Aussie, on a a Sunday… digested something… We have no idea, what it was. She got worse and we didn’t think she would make it to Wichita. We arrived in 40min from Hutchinson. Before we left our home, we gave her 10cc of hydrogen peroxide. This will make an animal throw up everything in their stomach. She did throw up. We couldn’t find ANYTHING! Whatever our Aussie had gotten into was already out of her system at some point when we got to the ER and the Drs had her! So very thankful for the services! First class place! Wouldn’t go elsewhere!❤️
Wonderful staff! Dr. Heather was so informative and compassionate and truly cared about our fur baby.
I think the setup for how to get your pet seen is ridiculous. I am very great full for the around the clock service. However to have to sit in a parking lot for hours is unsettling. I asked could I be notified with a 20 minute window so I could travel and I was told that was not an option. I told them I didn’t feel that sitting in a dark parking lot at night was very safe. My other concern is I didn’t get any paperwork work with my dogs dismissal. I feel like if I’m paying for an exam I should get dismissal paperwork. All and all it’s the only around the clock option we have for our pets so I’m sure I would use this service in the future I just hope that by then we are able to use the lobby again. Thanks for treating my pup!
My dog was beat up badly by another dog sometime in the late afternoon on a Friday. My vet clinic wouldn't even consider seeing him( which was annoying) but said instead I must take him to the Emergency clinic.
This clinic is wonderful! Absolutely wonderful with my dog and me being upset. It's just so unfortunate at how expensive it is. Once they have a treatment plan together you must pay 75% of the estimated cost before beginning treatment. I wish there was possibilities for a payment plan since they are soo expensive. I understand the reason for the expensive treatment. It was just a really pricy cost right upfront. I do value the quality of their work and the compassion they had for my dog and I.
There was a 2 hour wait. However the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They took great care of my little Winston.
My girl was delivering pups and one had been stuck for quite some time. I took her and the pups to this place and they were incredible. I was panicking the entire time, they gave me multiple options and the best advice on what was best for her. They were prompt and took care of my very ill dog and she was perfect by that evening with 8 beautiful pups. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else during an emergency other than here!
Great care. And Greta staff even though when I showed up I couldn't afford the help they still were immediately on top of helping my cat. So greatful for them
I came home from a 13 hour shift to find one of my rescue bullies extremely sick and unable to walk.
Rushing him to the VER, they got him in quickly and took excellent care of both him and his frantic human mom (me, of course). They only did the necessary tests to figure out what could be wrong and they sent me home with all the information necessary to care for my boy, as well as sent all the necessary information to our local vet of choice.
Even understaffed they did an excellent job.
Being the only emergency vet in Wichita the wait was to be expected, but they took good care of my dog. They didn't do any unnecessary testing either that would've cost me more money. Called and explained what they were giving him and how he was doing. I appreciate what they do.
My dog had an allergic reaction last night. She was taken back right away and cared for. She came back to me a lot less puffy and happy. The staff was caring and kept me informed. I was expecting a higher bill due to her size and it was a ton more affordable than our vet in San Diego.
Had a great experience dr ward is very caring towards both your pet and the owners.
I had a cat with a life threatening emergency. The VESH saw him right away, diagnosed him, kept him in ICU for 3 days and saved his life. I have had to use their services several times over the years, I am grateful this service is in Wichita.
This was our first time visiting and hope to never return, but we know our dog will be in good hands if we need it. We paid the deposit for drop off, since it was about 2AM. I do agree that a call or text to update every couple hours could have prevented panic when my wife woke up at 7 and hadn’t heard anything, but she did say they were extremely busy that night. Overall, the staff was great and Dr. Ward was able to release our dog without a bunch of costly testing! I think the only reason we hadn’t ever been before was the fear of the high priced “emergency” bill, and we were pleasantly surprised with the affordability! Well worth the price to know our dog was going to be okay!! Thank you!!
I am so appreciative of this compassionate team of caregivers. I have unfortunately needed their services twice, once on Christmas Day and once on a Saturday. They provide extensive and comprehensive care 24 hours a day. They kept me calm and reassured. They treated my dog with true love. They spoke to us in terminology that we understood and educated us so we could keep him healthy going forward. They communicated immediately with his primary care provider so that there was cohesion of care. They called me to follow up on how he was doing and reinforce education provided. Thank you for being there 24 hours a day. It is expensive BUT you are getting an entire hospital for your pet. This is why you should carry pet insurance.
The staff were very friendly and informative. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I feel like my dog didn't get fully looked over by the vet just because they felt she wasn't as big of an emergency as the others. So I ended up paying a bunch of money and still have to take her to the vet to get looked at and spend money there as well
Called late in the evening regarding my Yorkie (Chloe). Scheduler took all pertinent information over the phone first so we were able to get right in upon our arrival. The wait was lengthy due to staff experiencing some cardiac concerns with other pets. However the physician on staff and the nurses were great. We were very happy with our visit.
Earlier this week, we came home to our cat in severe respiratory distress at 10:30 pm. When Googling “24 hour vet near me” this is the place that popped up. We called when we arrived and they came immediately out and took him inside. They were quick to give us as much information and options as they could in a very short time. With how he was presenting, we agreed that euthanasia was the best thing we could do to end his suffering. Unfortunately, we had already made arrangements for the following week to have our 14 year old dog put down. He progressed rather quickly and with the experience we had, we cancelled our appointment that was five days out and had our best boy put to rest. Before bringing him into the room, they “warned” us that they had given him treats which consisted of chicken and peanut butter, which he loved. Both doctors and the staff we dealt with were top notch. No one wants to make the decision to put their beloved pets to rest, especially two in four days. Having people who genuinely care about what they do, makes the process a little less painful.
Our pup was in need of urgent care after suffering multiple seizures. The staff was quick, friendly, and professional. They explained everything and helped us feel good about having our furbaby in their care overnight. They even sent a report to our family vet before we had a chance to call and update them.
I’ve been here twice w two of my dogs and they’re truly amazing! I have pits and they never discriminate and actually always love on my pitties! Not only do they treat you and your pets like family, they also keep you very informed of the entire process and take incredible care of your pet. I am always so appreciative of this place. I’m glad I don’t have to go often but when I do it’s always a wonderful experience and my dogs love all the extra attention.
We've always felt that our pets get very good care. But they do have a monopoly in Wichita for weekend and after hours pet care, they seem to think that any charges and inconvenience is something that we'll just have to swallow. There was an awful lot of waiting. For someplace that charges an arm and a leg (three or four times what our regular vet charges) you'd think they could have more staff. We've never gone there over the many years that we've used them that we haven't had to wait for hours for our pet to even be seen. This last time we waited in the car for forty minutes before they sent someone out to get our cat, and they told us to go home and they'd call when a vet had examined him. That was another two hours later. And when we went to pick him up, we called to let them know we were there (pandemic caution, fine by us) they saie he'd be right out, and another hour later, he was right out. Some of the charges seemed outrageous, too. I can't speak to the treatments that they gave him there, although they were considerably higher than our vet charges, but they sent us home with four cans of "special" cat food. I looked at Pet Smart, and the exact food was $1.55 a can. They charged us $4.75, and I don't imagine that they bought it retail from Pet Smart, either. So for the price, their service wouldn't be worth it, except for the face that they're literally the only place in town. So we'll have to keep using them if we have an after-hours emergency, at least until there's a better option.
Great facility and staff. They cared for my pet during the emergency and they showed kindness and compassion.
There aren't many other places to go for emergency care. You'll pay a premium price. I have received great service on visits and I've also come away frustrated after poor customer service on recent visit. But, on every visit, I believe the staff will do all they can to save/treat your pet.
EDIT to correct number of stars and clarify that even though I had one visit that left me a little frustrated, I would not hesitate to take my dogs there. Having three dogs and fostering for years, I have unfortunately needed their service many times over the years and have been satisfied with the care my dogs received and the overall customer service.
I have had to use them for 3 different dogs and different reasons. They did amazing on each situation. From a 5 week old puppy, putting down a 14 yr old dog to a c section. My recent visit was a c section on my corgi. The vet closest to my house refused to give her a c section. When I arrived, they were busy, but took the time to exam and x ray my girl since she had stopped labor. They kept in communication with me the whole time she was there. They let me know when she was in surgery and then the doctor called me personally after surgery to tell me how the surgery went. Abby was the assistant that got my girl from me and she was awesome with making sure I was involved and kept in the loop during everything. Yes, they may be a little more expensive than my regular vet, but I highly recommend them. They are hands down amazing care for your babies!!
My dog was admitted late Friday evening. Thank you to all the vets and vet techs that took care of my dog. Everyone I interacted with was kind, caring, and took the time to answer all my questions. The care they provided was amazing!
I love the texting service - the ability to text in and get updates and pictures was extremely helpful and comforting. I am so happy to know there is a great emergency vet hospital in Wichita and will be recommending to all friends and family. THANK YOU!
I can’t speak to the quality of the emergency department. My Boston Terrier Riley was a direct admit to their ICU (possibly the same staff? I know how this works with humans, not pets).
Let me just say, I’ve worked with veterinary staff all over the country when my boy needed care and these people are the best of the best.
We did not have a good outcome, Riley had liver cancer that metastasized to his lungs and lymph nodes. He was dying when they took over his care, but they tried to give him more time, they made him as comfortable as possible, they did what they could do and they were honest with me when it was time. They didn’t suggest crazy treatments that would have only prolonged his suffering ( he probably wouldn’t have survived them anyway). They told me things I didn’t want to hear but I needed to hear them.
I was right there with him, in a special room (not an exam room) when he went. They made the worst day of my life more bearable. They went above and beyond when my life came crashing down. They put him first and then took care of me, which is how he lived his life.
With all this in mind, their care does not come cheap. I never expected that, I would be hesitant to use any veterinary hospital that didn’t charge appropriately for their level of care and expertise.
I carried health insurance for Riley, I also have an emergency care savings account strictly for him. Their prices are what they are because they are truly experts and they provide care that nobody else in Wichita can. Plan for this. If your pet needs emergency care, money shouldn’t be something you have to worry about and it shouldn’t dictate whether your pet survives.
We all did everything we possibly could but his little body just failed him. The staff and providers held my hand through this process and they didn’t have to do that. I hope I never have to see them again in that setting but if I do, I know I can trust them to properly care for my pet and if need be, myself.
After an argument between dogs over a bone, we rushed our dog here!! She was taken care of well! There was a bit of a wait but that was to be expected since it was the weekend but price wise I was very happy! I was worried an emergency surgery was going to be a lot more than it was! Overall, great experience and if our family vet is ever not available for an emergency, we will come back!
I was told I couldn't go in with my dog but as soon as they got her in a room someone would come out and get me, well that never happened. I got a call finally with an update and was told someone would call me every 30 minutes to an hour with updates. An hour and half after the only communication from dropping my dog off I called back and was rudely told by the lady that answered the phone that they never do updates prior to 2 hours. I was then put on hold for well over 20 minutes and then someone finally picked up and gave me an update. I was then asked if we went home and I said "no we weren't given any options but to sit in the parking lot". I got another call stating my dog was ready and they were getting her meds and they would call me again when I could come get her. Another hour later I got a call stating she was ready and we could come get her. Not sure if we will be going back because waiting that long with no updates and sitting in a car is not ok. More updates would be nice.
I was able to get my pet in very quickly. They took very good care of my pet and updated on me on everything. Even tho I couldn’t be with him inside, they made me feel like he was in trusted care. I highly recommend them when your pet is in need of immediate care. They took care of my pet like their own. Thank you guys!
I was surprised to see how organized they were with the virus rules in place. They had everything sectioned off in the parking lot and we were to wait in our cars and communicate by phone. A technician came out to the car and retrieved my pet. I went home to wait but called to get an update. A few hours later the actual Vet called and went over his findings and source of treatment with my pet. Everyone was so kind and informative. The new site is absolutely beautiful and can't wait to get in an look around. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience and setting my fears at ease.
The staff and vet were great when my dog maybe/maybe didn't eat some gum with xylitol. I had no idea it was super, deadly toxic to dogs. They had her in the building quickly and kept me informed all along the way. The vet came to my car twice to update me and when it looked like maybe she didn't eat the gum or not as much of it as I thought she had he had a real conversation with me about my options. If you have sugar free gum or candy in your house with a dog - throw it all away. I don't know why this isn't common knowledge - I know not to feed my dog grapes or onions but didn't know that gum could kill her in 30 minutes.
Returned for a spay that didn't go well. Once again, great care! Never fun having to visit them but eternally grateful we have them in Wichita and for everyone who works there. This has to be such a hard job. I know I couldn't do it. I put it up there with neonatal nurses. Jobs that I couldn't do because I would just weep the entire time.
Cannot say thank you enough to the team at VESH and Dr. Ward for their care of our dog Ralph this past weekend. Getting text updates and photos while he was in their care really helped our minds and Dr. Ward answered any and all questions that we had.
Truly a great team you guys have right now. Thank you again for the millionth time.
I had to take my sweet Lexi to your ER, I was so glad you weren’t too far away. Y’all took excellent care of her. She is feeling better, congestive heart failure is so very scary. I’m so glad y’all were able to help her. She is 13 years old and hates being without her Mom but she did OK at your hospital. I will recommend you all highly!! Thank you all dearly!!!
My puppy was limping and not using his back legs at all, we took him in and they checked his vitals right away. Because he was stable the wait time was rather long but when he got seen they found out that he was just being a big old DRAMA KING he was fine jumping around and playing with the staff!! They called me immediately and said that I can come get my dog charge free and bring him back if I need to or they could examine him anyway. I came right away and he has been fine ever since. So amazing that they did not do unnecessary testing just to get more money.
This is the best care I have ever received for an animal. My dog was attacked and we came in, in a complete panic. They took my pup back right away and the staff also made sure I was okay. The ladies at the front desk and all the techs and both vets that took care of my boy during his two day stay were nothing short of amazing. They took the time to text me and send me pictures while he was in their care. They made the worst situation so much easier with their kindness and compassion. I really can’t put into words how much they helped through a hard time. Thank you for the amazing medical and emotional care for my pup. And if you’re ever in a situation that you need emergency care, I highly recommend this facility. It is no exaggeration that their help saved my boy and kept him with me for years to come. ♥️
Very professional and quality of care was excellent although they kept the meds I'd taken in with my pet. $$$
I brought my dog in on a Saturday morning and they took great care of her. They made her feel comfortable and answered all my questions. After being there 4 hours I got her back and she looked much better. They truly care and do a great job.
We have been here several times in the last couple months for our precious Frenchie who has been suffering from pancreatitis. 🤕 It is so comforting to have this level of great care on the West side of Wichita. Everyone is very professional and kind and we can tell they truly have a passion to help make our fur baby feel better! They text/call with updates along the way to help us feel better too. ❤
If you have a sick fur baby...do not hesitate to check them in here, they will be in great hands!
Dr.Ward and his team were incredible. They made me feel like they cared for my dog as much as I do. After leaving my dog there with them the Dr called and explained everything in great detail and his thoughts. Thank you guys once again for all your help and hard work.
We took our 12 year old dachshund in one Sunday morning last September. They were packed so there was a wait, but the staff was kind and patient with everyone. We saw some people who had to say goodbye to a beloved pet while there, and others who were very worried. The animals there were quite ill or had had some sort of accident requiring stitches. Our little one was diagnosed and admitted and we left knowing she was getting excellent care. Unfortunately she failed to improve (it was an illness where the dog will either recover with supportive care or continue to worsening health and death) so two days later we made the decision to let her go and end her suffering. Nothing about this situation was easy, but in our every communication with everyone there we were treated with compassion and knew our girl was receiving her best chance at recovery.
I write this review to let people know what this office is - think of using it in the way you would a hospital emergency room and just as you wouldn’t go to the hospital for routine care for yourself you need to call a regular vet’s office for anything that isn’t an emergency. This is the best care you can get for an extremely ill pet on short notice, any time any day. It is priced accordingly. We were happy to pay our bill because we wanted our dog to have a chance if it would be at all possible. When we made the painful decision to euthanize her the staff were supportive and compassionate beyond any expectation. I am very grateful that they are there for when they are needed, but visits with a regular veterinarian will meet most needs. This office is for when a regular vet is not available or the situation is serious.
Just want to say thank you to these wonderful professionals. They got my sick little Pomeranian all better. Staff and Doctors very professional and caring. They kept me informed on my dogs condition and findings. The wait time was slightly long. But keeping in mind that it does take time to get a complete diagnostic of pets condition and getting them stable. Give these professionals time to do their job. Highly recommend for emergency care.
Dr. H. Millard got my dog feeling better and answered all my questions along the way. The entire clinic was nothing but supportive and kind to me and my old man and during a time of stress surrounding a surgery that is so very appreciated. Thank you!
I came up from just over the line in Oklahoma, after failing to find someone who would take my dog. They were very caring and kept us up to date on what they wanted to do for her care. I would recommend them to any of my dog mom friends!
We brought our dog in with chocolate poisoning. He was seen immediately and we were kept informed of his condition throughout his stay. We appreciated the professionalism and competency of the staff in the wee hours of the morning. Would recommend and use their services again if need be.
Toward the end of the day I noticed my male kitty straining and looking very uncomfortable. He seemed to be having trouble using the bathroom and I was worried. I drove right over to this vet and they picked him up and took a look at him. In about an hour and a half I had a diagnosis and treatment had been done. The price was much lower than I would have expected, and I could tell the staff liked my kitty and he seemed in a really good mood considering he’d been at the vet— normally he’s terrified of vet trips. If I have any other after hours issues you can bet this is where I’m taking my cats.
Very caring staff. Communication on the front end was a little challenging due to curbside service only, per covid restrictions.
Once we got past that it was great.
Yes it's a little pricey but so are emergency room services for yourself if you need them ...
All in all I'd rate them 10 out of 10 on care given. If they could streamline the communication on the front end I give them a 10 on communication as well.
We had a great experience at the Veterinary Emergency Hospital. Everyone was extremely courteous, thoughtful, & kind. The Dr. explained what probably happened, went over our options in detail, made recommendations, so we could make an informed decision. In our case, the procedure went well, was kept informed on things went, with great post op instructions. The whole process was easy & smooth. We'd recommend their services.
I was so scared my cat was dying and they were kind to me I could tell they were going to save him. The vet didn't do unnecessary costly tests. He was a really good vet and the team was organized and skilled. I even got some money returned to me. It's hard to spend money in these trying times. But when your pet needs emergency care, this is a good place to go. My Sammy Cat is getting better and I couldn't be happier!! Money well spent!!
I would absolutely recommend the care given to Ace. I would just be cautious of the time you may be there. Or at least have them tell you up front that it's okay to leave.
That being said...It was a holiday weekend so it was busy and with Covid, everything was curbside so I was unable to go in. The vet tech who came to take our dog was wonderful. She was super sweet. The vet that looked at Ace was also very nice and kind over the phone. The vet tech that brought him back out to us was also super nice. However, I was not very happy with how things went down. We sat in our van for over 6 hours. No one told me that I could go ahead and pay the $125 fee, leave and then they would call us when he was done. I do appreciate that someone texted me during the time Ace was inside with them. But it was very frustrating to only hear something about every hour. The response was typically "Ace should be the next one to be seen. Thank you for being patient." I called into the place twice. The second time I called in (which was about 4 1/2 hours of being in my van), they told me I could pay and leave. But I just figured after 4 1/2 hours, surely Ace would be coming out soon. Sadly, we waited another 2 hours.
I totally get being busy and I am a really patient person especially if I know the facts up front. However, this was a bit much and I was pretty irritated that no one ever told me the facts of how it would all go down. Also, the people that answer the phones are kinda snippy so that kinda wasn't cool. I was told "no news is good news" because I was worried that something was really wrong with our dog.
To sum up: Care was FANTASTIC. Customer service and speed was not.
This is the only place I know of that still will not let you enter the facility. I can visit family at the hospital but can’t take my cat to the emergency vet. We dropped off Mikey (the cat) and 4 hours later was able to return to get him. We paid the bill through the phone and waited 30 min and still hadn’t seen the cat. So I called and 15 min later they bring him back. Ok so they are busy. A nurse came out empty handed 3 times during the 45 min. They did a great job shaving the cats butt and telling us it would heal keep an eye on it.
My foster dog had an unplanned pregnancy and the puppy was way too large for her to carry successfully and after a rough time trying to deliver on her own we made the decision to take her in and get her care the veterinary emergency and specialty hospital and all the staff there jumped immediately into action to save Zoe's life and tried to save puppies as well unfortunately they couldn't do that but Zoe and healthy and recovering as we speak. They're warmth and concern for our loss was reassuring and made a very difficult and nerve-racking situation easier to bear thank you to the staff and the doctors that took care of Zoe and she's no longer Foster we've decided to keep her for our selves.
We brought our dog Tootsie in after traveling to Augusta Ks from Toupelo Ms to visit our daughter and son in law. While traveling there by car, our dog became very anxious and was chattering with her mouth. My husband discovered she had a very loose tooth that looked to be infected.
We took her in and due to several more serious emergencies, it ended up being a six hour wait.
That is the only reason I am giving four stars instead of five. The tooth was removed and antibiotics were given to us. We spoke to the Vet and he was very thorough and caring. The techs were great and the cost was reasonable.. We definitely would recommend this place to anyone needing emergency services.
We recently had an emergency visit to receive care for our 11 year old Australian Shepherd who was unfortunately attacked by two other dogs leaving him multiple injuries and a possible broken leg. They were curbside service only due to the Pandemic, but did a great job of communicating on the phone, text and email throughout. Although surgery took longer then expected, it went smoothly and they even offered to monitor him through the night as the surgery was completed very early in the morning. Thank you so much to the staff and we are hopeful that with the great care and rehab ahead that he will recover fully and be back to his normal self very soon!
First time we have been. Found it ridiculous that we had to sit in our cars for 4 hours. They did no treatment to our dog only watched her. My guess is she was stuck in a crate which we do not use at home. After 4 1/2 hours the vet called us and gave us three options with 3 prices. She was having a toxic reaction to something. One would think if they knew she ate something toxic that they would have done some kind of treatment (charcoal) for her in that time. To find out what was $600 to $900, if they gave her charcoal it would be another 45 minutes and $235 or we could take her home and watch her and bring her back within 24 hours and at extra cost and we would pay the $120 office call charge. Vet was okay to talk to but other staff we interacted with was less than friendly. It was midnight but still could be friendly. Dog is fine so all ended well. Prefer to use my own vet but in the middle of the night you have no choice.
My 9week old puppy would have died if it weren't for the wonderful vet techs and the Vet. Due to covid I am out of work and don't have much money but they were so wonderful that they worked out a plan for me and still gave my sick pup all the meds she needs. I will definitely recommend this vet from now on. Lots of Thanks to these Wonderful women that helped my puppy live....Update she died 3hours after I posted the review
I love this place they took great care of my other dog BabyDoll even though we had to put her down. Then I got a puppy and they took great care of her when she lacerated her paw. I love these people I always leave there with a big smile on my face and the satisfaction knowing that my dog will be taken care of.
This was the first time we needed this service and will be prepared the next time (Hopefully not soon).
Because of the Covid issues, we couldn't go into the facility and I have no problem with that.
I dog had gotten into some rat poison. We found one in his mouth, but didn't know if he had located or even eaten others.
The clinic took or dog in and we waited in the parking lot.
I wish they had said something to us about what to expect.
No nothing happened to the dog. But we did have to wait 4 1/2 hours.
We had been out for the evening and didn't get to the clinic until Midnight.
If you do the math, we got our dog at 4:30 in the morning.
Surprisingly their were a half dozen cars in the parking lot with us.
The staff was great and Bentley was fine.
Just the lack of communication about his treatment made it unpleasant.
Note
After I posted this review. The Veterinary clinic actually read it and replied.
It means a lot that someone is actually taking the time to listen to their customers.
I upgraded their rating to five stars.
Thanks for being there.
Our boy, Elway, has had quite the extended stay with this hospital. He has been given the best care and love with the constant and most informed updates. I have felt like the veterinarians have treated my dog like his own, informed me with every step of the way and made this situation the best that it could be. I can't say thank you enough to the staff who have worked so hard to help my pup!
Its always scary when something is wrong with your pet. I was so thankful that they are open 24 hours. They were very busy the evening of my visit so my wait was pretty long, but I didn't care. I just wanted to make sure my dog was safe. The staff was very friendly (even at 1 am) and kept in great communication with me and answered any questions I asked throughout the evening. If a problem ever arises again, I would go back.
Everyone was friendly and took the time to explain everything. Dr. Winter and team did a fantastic job of extracting my cats' teeth and making sure she had the pain medicine and antibiotics to have a full recovery.
Our little dog was promptly taken in for evaluation. Although there was a wait, we were confident he was getting the best care. It is an emergency center, care has to be triaged as more critical situations come in. If we wait, we know other animals need urgent attention. We were kept informed about our little guys situation while we waited. Our little guy was diagnosed, prescription filled and he's doing better at home. Thank you to all the staff for such professional care.!!!
Dr. Ward is exceptional. He gave my sick puppy an extension on life and gave me honest view on what to expect moving forward. He made a very hard conversation and decision manageable. I cannot express how thankful I am for his support and advice over the past several days.
I took my dog here his name is fat daddy, he had parvo was really sick I was so scared!!! They saved my dog this was just last week 11/28/2021 and my dog is back pumping like nothing never happened!!! I wanna thank the whole staff!!! I really appreciate all of u I wouldn’t have know what to do if my puppy would have died!!! Big ups to the doctor that day your the best and great work!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The staff and Dr. Townsley saved my kitty's life this past weekend. He was in really bad shape and they took the best care for him and kept me updated the entire time. They are are very caring and knowledgable and I recommend them to anyone in need of urgent care for their animal.
Thank you!
We were able to get in right away. There was a bit of a wait, but once Dr. Loftgreen came into the room, treatment was provided quickly. We appreciate the service you provided.
Absolutely wonderful people! They kept me updated on my dog, Okie, about everything. They were the sweetest people and made my dog feel so comfortable. Although it takes a long time because that is just how it goes anywhere, I was pleased with everything! Definitely gonna be using this emergency vet hospital when I need one. Thank you guys so much!
Our cat had a paw that went from gimpy to swollen 4 times normal size in a day. Our regular vet couldnt see him for two weeks. The staff got him in, checked out, fixed up, and on the road quickly and he was well cared for. They really do care and it shows. Reasonably priced for an emergency clinic as well.
My cat Panther has IBD and when he has a flare it can develop into pancreatitis. We have been through this before so as soon as I saw him vomit white foam multiple times, I knew I had to get him help. My cat has almost died twice from this because of an incompetent vet so I was praying the doctors here knew what he needed.
I was hysterical on the way there. We drove from Andover and it was the longest 23 minutes of my life. I’m sure they could tell I was extremely upset on the phone. They were very understanding and empathetic and assured me my pet was in good hands.
This was on a Sunday morning so we had to wait. They told me there were several critical cases in front of me. I did see a dog being transferred from a car to a stretcher so I knew they were busy. They told me if he vomited again in the car, to call. Luckily, I had given him his nausea meds before we left so he didn’t vomit.
Once he got in, we were able to go back home. They updated me regularly on his condition. They gave me the option of leaving him there to be monitored or since he was stable, I could bring him home and take him to the cat hospital in the morning. They never once tried to push tests or procedures. I’m the one that chose to have labs done and made the decision to keep him there for fluids and monitoring. My cat is only 2 years old. I couldn’t bear the thought of him dying at home because I didn’t want to spend the extra money.
They took excellent care of Panther and quickly communicated and transferred his information to The Cat Hospital. We were fortunate to have caught this early before the pancreatitis started eliminating his appetite and severe dehydration set in.
I’m grateful to the doctor and staff that stopped the disease from taking over. He’s young and I want him to have a chance at life.
This is an ER so just like our healthcare, it’s expensive. I always tell my family nobody’s going to the ER unless we’re dying. My Panther’s life was in danger. I did what I had to do. His care matters more than any material possessions. I would do it again if I had to.
I’m hoping one day they will open an east side location as the drive is pretty far for an emergency. Other than that, I have no complaints.
Thank you for saving my Panther. It means the world to us.
The care and attention given to my pet was very reassuring. Having to send her in without me was difficult but they were great with here. The only complaint I have is the length of time I waited in my car. Two hours seemed like forever but my baby is so much better today.
Also appreciate the contact with my veterinarian.
One of my dogs had her nail torn off and a tear in the pad on her foot. The doctors were extremely busy due to a holiday weekend. The staff communicated with me consistently about what was going on. They kept my dog comfortable until she could be seen. Then the doctor called me (unable to go in due to COVID-19 restrictions) and informed me about the situation with my dog as well as what the recommended course of action was. She also found a way to save me some money on the treatment. I was extremely pleased with the professionalism of the entire staff and the doctor that managed my pet. I would highly recommend this Veterinary ER to anyone.
THANK YOU to the sweet staff, and amazing vets. Our 5 1/2 month old puppy went in with parvo, and although with COVID-19 you're not allowed in the facility, I still felt somewhat comfortable knowing I was leaving him in good hands. I called often to check on our puppy and was always greeted warmly over the phone, and truly felt like he was taken really well care of. We still have a long road ahead of us with our puppy, but I will highly recommend this hospital to any one who asks about Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita.
We were so pleased with the care our chihuahua received. The staff was so helpful. They kept us informed of her progress. The vet called with what needed to be done. After the treatment, we were given Meds and instructions. We also were pleased with the amount of time we had to wait. They were very busy, but the whole thing took only two hours. I would recommend you to anyone who needs an emergency vet.
Our visit was good but, there was some confusion with the Vet that treated my cat. We brought her in because she was in a 'cat' fight with another cat and had an injured front leg and back leg. When I received the call from the Vet after she was examined, all the Vet discussed was her mouth. I did not bring her in for her mouth. I had to confirm to the Vet that she was examining my car. I told her my cat's issue was on her front and back leg. I requested she re-examine my cat. After another examination, the Vet called back and sure enough after they spent more time with her they noticed her not putting any pressure on one leg, shaved her leg and found multiple bite / puncture wounds. They didn't even seem to examine the back leg, which I am still upset about, but they did issues pain beds and an antibiotic. They nurse and staff were very friendly and I appreciated this, but I almost felt my notes and concerns where ignored by the vet.
I was so pleased with the care/surgery my chihuahua Jose’ received. He constantly sneezed cause of what was going on with teeth/gums. The staff was so helpful. They kept me informed of his progress. Dr Winters was very informative what needed to be done. Plus done the day I came in for the consultation. After the treatment, we were given Meds and instructions. I also was very pleased with the amount of time it took. I would recommend to anyone who needs an emergency vet. Jose has been 100% better since surgery.
The staff were incredibly friendly and thorough. I genuinely felt as if they cared about my dog. The vet explained everything and called us several times to check in about our dog's status.
We always appreciate this option for us when it's after hours or over the weekend. We consistently get good, honest care for our dogs.
Thank you to all of the staff for being available!
I had a scheduled appointment but because of the nature of their services the wait is long, but so worth it. Since my visit, I have received a few follow up calls, which I wasn’t expecting. Dr. Smith really cares for these animals as I’m sure the rest of the staff does. I’ve also received a detailed email summary that I could share with the rest of my household so they know what’s going on also. Because of COVID-19 you have to wait in the parking lot or drop off and pick up later. But they do what they can to make it comfortable, there is water for the animals and yourself. The quality of care is top notch, just bring something to entertain yourself while you wait.
I took my cat in due to a potentially life-threatening situation. He was quickly assessed and it was determined that his issues were not life-threatening. I was then given the option to continue his care there or transfer him to a veterinarian clinic. I appreciated how responsive the staff was and that I was given options for care.
Edit: In browsing the other reviews for this business, I see that almost all of the less than five star reviews of late are due to similar treatment. I would recommend fixing your customer service/short-staffed circumstance as soon as possible to avoid future disgruntled customers and appearing like you do not take these concerns seriously.
TLDR: Five out of five stars for how they treated my pup. Two out of five stars for how they treated me.
My doggo had to go in because he had two fractured teeth with exposed roots. Dr. Winter was great and explained everything thoroughly while reassuring me that my baby boy would be able to come through the surgery and anesthesia safely. The rest of the staff was very kind as well and treated my boy with care. The only issue, and it was a big issue, was the huge lack of communication. We dropped him off at 7:45 AM and waited over 12 hours without news when we had been told 8 hours. We did call twice and were told by the customer service rep that they would have the dental team get in touch with us, but did not reassure us that our doggo was okay and we didn’t ever receive a call back, so we called again only to receive the same result. I’m not being dramatic when I said it was the most excruciating experience. We had to physically stop a vet tech in the parking lot to get answers. When she finally came back out and said they had just finished the procedure and he was okay I just started bawling. I understand certain allowances should be made for life in the midst of Covid, but a single call to tell me they were running late would have saved me hours and hours of worry. That being said, I will return because they know what they are doing and I’m certain this whole situation was unintentional.

Ear infection, infected puncture wound
Wasnt necessarily an emergency but I couldn't get a appointment with a vet until 3 days later, one vet told me the 20th of april. I called Veterinary emergency filled out a very quick form on my phone and was told to head over as soon as I was ready.
They could've just treated the puncture wound and sent me on my way with a large bill. They didnt, they did a very thorough exam treated the ear infection cleaned the other ear shaved and treated the puncture, included a procedure to accelerate the healing of the wound, and sent us on our way with 3 different meds, and my boy Dakota was already feeling much better. Plenty of value for the money I spent.
Wonderful staff, fantastic care, and decent prices considering the emergency aspect. Very polite professional and accommodating. They talked to me about the procedures they were going to use, why they were going to use them and pricing all before they actually started. I cannot say enough to convey how happy I am with my entire visit. It's one of those places that deserves extra stars.
Not only did they take us in when my new puppy decided that an old cube of mouse bait looked like a great idea, but they were so very reassuring and supportive of my husband and myself. Because we had managed to get her to vomit up the entire cube before we took off for the vet, they took her vitals and sent us home telling us to seek our vet in 48 hours to test for blood coagulation. There was NO charge for what they did even though the support they gave us was priceless. Thank you so very much!
The care from the Vet Techs and Doctors were amazing! They were extremely caring. Dr. Ward and Dr. Winter did a phenomenal job for our little doggo.
The front desk staff however seemed to be extremely worried about getting payment and didn’t seem to do a good job of passing along information during a shift change.
We are extremely happy that we got to bring our dog home alive.
My little dog's hiney was blocked by poop getting matted in her long hair. She was whimpering and straining, but she wouldn't let me try to help. The technician calmed her, clipped and shaved out the mat of hair, cleaned up the mess and treated her soreness. Her problem was taken care of quickly and with no charge. The technician that took care of her was friendly, helpful and very caring. I've been there before when my other dog swallowed some of my medications and had the same level of great service.
The whole experience was a bit difficult due to the Covinvirus preventing me was going in with my little dog as she is most always my little shadow. The wait was very long - waiting to find out how she did & if she was resting. It's just difficult for me to be away from her when she's sick. Over all everyone did their best to stay in touch with me (even through numerous phone calls & an influx of more pets in need of help).
Excellent place to go & very nice patient people working there. Thank you to all of them.
The nurses and doctors took their time to address all of my concerns and really listened to what I had to say and took it into consideration when treating my dog. She was having breathing problems due to a heart condition and she was better within a day after starting the medication that was prescribed. Excellent staff, excellent medical care!
Aug 10th. 2020. Our Akita had been spayed at our normal Vet earlier that day, and started bleeding around 1130 that evening. When we couldn't get the bleeding stopped at home, we took her to the Emergency Vet, arriving at 1218 in the morning. Freyja was admitted, and the staff was polite. Communication was decent for the first 30 or so minutes as we sat in the truck (no customers allowed inside because of Covid), but then we waited an hour and a half before hearing anything else, which was very frustrating. They took good care of her though, and she was discharged around 0330, groggy but whole, and the incision hasn't opened back up since. Their prices can be ridiculously high, but for the only 24hr vet in town, it's to be expected. Gotta keep the lights on somehow, right?
We had to take our dachshund in after we realized we could not wait for our typical veterinarian to be open. It was a very scary experience for us but we felt that he was immediately in good hands. They seemed to truly listen to all our concerns and they kept us very updated through the night long process. We’re so thankful we had somewhere to go when we felt helpless.
This place is awesome. Our precious little doggie is having surgery there and all the staff are wonderful ❤️
It was a very difficult time for our family when we visited the clinic early in the morning. The Dr. had the best bed side manners and gave us honest answers. He made me feel at peace with our decision and made our baby comfortable enough to spend his last few hours at home with us. I will forever be grateful to this Dr. for allowing us to have this time.
They were professional and very comforting. We were extremely worried about the baby kitten we found in the road and they kept us informed. We would use them again if the need arises
I brought my cat in recently after he ate one of my plants and was vomiting. I called first and was emailed paperwork which didn't take long to fill out, I took my cat in and due to COVID called the receptionist and someone immediately came out and got my cat. Everything was explained to me, it was very organized and friendly. I called and spoke with the receptionist and she was super nice and kept me updated on the status. The doctor, DR Ward, called and spoke to me and he was very friendly and I could tell he wanted to give the best possible treatment for my cat and we discussed treatment plans and I was impressed with how I was involved even though COVID kept me from going in. I felt that my cat was in good hands and they treated me with respect and the communication was top notch. Pip thanks you, he is doing much better. I thank you as well for the excellent service everyone of your team members provided. Take care!
They took excellent care of our little puppy. I felt like their communication was great as well. The only negative from our experience was the cost. It seemed like every time I turned around they were needing another deposit.
I can't thank this vet office for the gentleness and kindness they provided my dog this last weekend. He was just diagnosed with Lymphoma, I hadn't gotten the results back yet when I took him in, but the vet was so reassuring and gave me amazing information and spoke to me like a human being is supposed, with care and compassion. I would recommend this vet hospital to anyone! Thank you for taking care of my Sig.
I had to come here at 1am for a 7-week-old puppy in respiratory failure who was also suffering from PDA. While I was hoping to go home with the puppy, the doctor recommended euthanasia. Everyone here was so compassionate. The doctor even looked like she was about to cry when she gave me the news. She told me I could allow her to treat the puppy, but her quality of life was not going to be good and there was no guarantee that treatment would help for very long. This puppy hadn't been breathing for quite a while, but was still fighting and still alive. They provided her oxygen so that she wasn't struggling to breathe in her final moments and allowed me to be in the room holding her paw as the euthanasia medication was administered. I have had horrible experiences with emergency vets in the past just wanting to get as much money out of me as possible. This experience was completely different. Everyone from the doctors to the receptionist genuinely cared about this puppy and wanted to do everything they could to make her comfortable. I will recommend this emergency vet to anyone who may need their services. This was the hardest thing I've ever had to watch and go through, and the entire staff knew that. I was very impressed and touched by their compassion during such a difficult time.
My cat was having some kind of illness, but it was passing as it turns out. Not knowing what it was, I wanted to get her examined, and the courteous employees here made it as pleasant as possible. Exam was completed which was indeterminate, but Vet explained the costs if more were to be done, and it was suggested I go to my primary vet as needed. I very much appreciated their working to address concerns, and for emergency care at least I would recommend Vet Emergency & Specialty Hospital!
They took great care of our sick dog. We weren't able to stay with her because of COVID protocols but they touched base with us throughout her stay. They gave us very good details on aftercare and our fur baby is healthy again!
Thank you for properly caring for our 2 baby kittens! You took a huge relief off our shoulders during this difficult time. I would highly recommend. Staff/Doctor responded very quickly and updated us as soon as possible.
Caring and compassionate! Very honest and open about the care they could give Charlie. Ultimately recommended I take her to K State. Arrangements were made so an orthopedic surgeon was on standby when we arrived. Thank you! Charlie is doing well!!
My dog was well taken care of eventually. She went there because of broken leg. After the long wait, they put on a cast, but forgot the cone. She got home and ate it off. They put it again and it continued to fall off. I had to bring my dog back the third time. I will never come back to that place again. I’m glad my dog is okay now. There were not too many choices for dog emergency room. That place is too expensive. Overall, I wish there were more places for animal emergency room.
The staff was informative, helpful, caring and compassionate. They were upfront and honest about cost and did not do any unnecessary procedures such as sedation and x-rays that would have cost us several hundred dollars more. They kept us updated via text and phone once vitals were taken, while waiting for the doctor, and after seeing the doctor. We knew our dog was in great hands and would definitely recommend them!
Took our dog in for a serious chest injury. They treated her promptly, explained the after care, and filled the prescriptions. To save us money, they recommended seeing our family vet for the required daily bandage changes. Dr. Townsley called our family vet to make sure she understood what needed to be done. I was pleased with the care and our dog is fine now.
I had to take my dog Foxy in when she was in pain and vomitting and they were the only ones open on Sunday. The staff and Dr. Schroeder treated me with care and kept me updated throughout the day and overnight. When we found out she had cancer and wasn't responding to treatment and wouldn't survive much longer, they provided her with the comfort and care to help ease her suffering as much as they could, even providing oxygen to help her. When we came to the decision to put Foxy to sleep, they showed great compassion every step of the way, especially as I held her as the euthanizing medication was administered.
I know some people complain about their prices, but it comes with being open 24/7 as an emergency clinic and medical tech. They were very upfront and fair with me.
The care was okay, our Izzy is feeling better. I get the 6 hour waiting period, what I don’t understand is that the vet that helped us didn’t give us answers after we opted to do extra $200 worth of blood work. She wasn’t very opening to answering questions. They send her home with antibiotics and fluids and it ended up costing us $500. We went home with no answers, and to follow up with our regular vet if she didn’t feel better. After fluids and the antibiotics the morning after she felt better. It’s just really distressing that we did $200 with of testing to be told she didn’t know. I get why the emergency vet costs more money but it’s a little much for blood work, fluids (she’s like 12 lbs), antibiotics, and no answers. We are grateful for the care as always.
Indian Hills has ALWAYS been amazing with our furry kids. They love them just as much as we do and it shows. Neither of our dogs have any problem trotting on into the facility because they love the people there as much as the people love them! Highly recommend!
Check in was quick. They kept me posted as to the progress of how my dog was doing. They didn’t automatically go with the most expensive treatment options and at the end of the process, I got my dog back with 2 prescriptions and good instructions for follow up care. They were professional and friendly.
Staff was friendly and professional. My only complaint is that they take you pet to the back and don’t let you stay with them the entire time you are there.
I came home from work on a Friday night to find my beautiful husky deceased. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know who to call so I called the clinic. The lady that answered was so compassionate, so caring and so helpful. She told me exactly what I needed to do and that they could help me. She turned a horrible situation into something that put my mind at ease and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
We’ve never needed an ER Vet before so this was our first experience. Everyone here was awesome!! They were all very caring & did an amazing job getting a lodged treat out of our Frenchis’s esophagus! We are so thankful! They are rock stars!! They called us every step of the way to update us, which was so nice! Our little Ripley came home ready to heal up!!
3/14/20 - My dog Max has had CHF for about 2 years. Tonight, he gave my husband and I a huge scare with not being able to breath, coughing, and wheezing. I had called this vet to see what I should do and they said to immediately bring him in. Upon arrival we checked in and immediately the receptionist called to the back and they came and grabbed Max and started his vitals and put him on O2. I was very pleased at how fast they worked with him, and all the other critical animals they had tonight. My husband and I were very patient because we understand that other people have babies just like we do and we also want other people’s animals to get the care they need. Huge thank you to staff and Dr. for helping Max! His O2 was very low and they didn’t hesitate at all when it came to saving him and getting him better.
Yes, emergency hospitals are expensive but this place will work with you to make sure your dog gets the care it needs! I can’t thank y’all enough for helping Max tonight and putting my mind at ease. I will definitely be back if my dogs ever have an emergency again. God Bless you all.
Overall, we had an excellent experience here. Our dog got injured in the wee hours of the morning on a Saturday, and our normal vet was not set up for the sort of surgery that she would have required. They referred us to the Emergency Clinic. I was incredibly worried about our dog, as she had a huge gash down her side (but was still otherwise acting pretty normal???), so we rushed her to the Veterinary ER.
The person at the front desk was kind and patient with us, and they rushed her into the back room right away. She did have to wait a while to go into surgery, but my understanding is, that is how triage works! They patched her up to make her stable, and we sat and watched as several separate CRITICAL patients came in after us. If I had been in those owner's positions, I would want my cat or dog treated first, too!
They also did a great job of communicating with us. When Dr. Schroeder came out and talked with us, she explained exactly what was going on and how long we could expect to wait for our dog to be out of surgery. She was reassuring, VERY knowledgeable, and very friendly with us (as well as with our dog!)
Our dog was patched up and sent home with us that day (which I did not expect!) and they even mentioned, even if she had had to stay the night, they would not have charged us extra for the overnight stay. I consider this fair and very considerate of our financial situation.
Finally, the finances. This place was more expensive than a regular vet (duh), but that is because they offer services and hours a regular vet doesn't or can't offer (also, duh). I appreciated their willingness to work with us on a price. It was expensive, don't get me wrong, but they worked up an estimate and the surgery went so well, she came in WAY under budget. I really appreciated this as well.
Overall, I'd say my experience here was a good one (considering the circumstances). Dr. Schroeder even called us a few days later to check up on our dog and make sure everything was going okay with her stitches! I don't think I've ever had a vet call me with a follow up, ever. This just goes to show how far out of their way they will go to make sure your dog or cat gets the treatment and care they need.
I give these guys a well-deserved 5 stars.
I am so thankful for this place where we can bring our fur babies when they are in need. Thank you for helping my cat!
Going to an emergency vet is never a "good" experience but the staff at vet emergency & specialty hospital were great. My dog had a deep puncture wound from an unknown cause. Her injury was very frightening for her and for me. Dr. Gehring and everyone I interacted with throughout the night were all amazing and kind. Everyone communicated clearly and helped me understand risks but also helped calm my fears. Luckily, everything went great and my dog is now at home and recovering well. Though I hope to never need an emergency vet again - if I do I will be going back here.
I took my Pomeranian there due to respiratory distress last night. I couldn’t go in with him, the only thing I didn’t like but I truly understand why.
They were good about keeping me updated on what was going on and the treatment plan. Long long story short. He came home with me breathing SO much better and with medication to keep him from coughing so much. You
I was also told by a couple staff members how sweet and cute he is. Job well done 😊
My daughter's kitten was suffering from toxicity. I took her to my normal veterinarian not realizing what she was suffering from as I hadn't seen her get into anything poisonous. When he told me what was wrong with her and that we would need to take her here, I was skeptical. The veterinarian that examined her was extremely quick with both her diagnosis and with deciding the best treatment option. Before we said yes or no, she gave us a detailed estimate. Being as it was my daughter's kitten and something that I knew we couldn't treat at home, my husband and I bit the bullet and put her in for treatment. She was ready to go home the next day. When we came to pick her back up, the front staff remembered exactly who we were and who our pet was. I was shocked with that alone because of how busy the clinic is. They made sure to get as much ready as they could so we weren't waiting too long. I was further shocked that the bill came out to be on the low end of the estimate. Yes, the bill was high, but for the treatment that she received I know that we paid a reasonable amount. Rosie was happy to be home that night and has been her playful self since. I was worried when we first picked her up but by day two of her being home all signs of toxicity is gone. I only wish that the veterinarian we saw had her own clinic so that we could use her for all of our veterinary needs. I will be taking our animals there with future emergencies.
I am not from around this area, as we were visiting family when my puppy became very ill. She was having trouble breathing and I've never been so scared in my life that she wasn't going to make it.
The second we walked in the door, we were greeted warmly yet with extreme concern for my puppy. They took her back immediately and performed care IMMEDIATELY, while explaining the cost of each care provided BEFORE they charged us. I advise any and everyone to go here. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you for your care for my family and I!
Thankful with my experience. My chihuahua was attacked at the park by a husky, in the evening. Night staff communicated often overnight with updates. Very friendly, doctor called with a plan of care. I was not able to stay due to covid. Overall good experience.
The entire staff here was and is absolutely wonderful. They treated our dog with extreme care and concern, and were highly efficient in doing so. During our emergency visit, the doctor continued to communicate what she would be and was doing and how our dog was reacting to her treatment.
We would have no hesitation in recommending their services - very appreciative!
Our 4 week old puppy (who lost his mommy) wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t eat. They got us in promptly and found out he had hookworms. They helped us so much and now our puppy is recovering very well. The only problem was communicating. Due to the pandemic they were doing curbside pick-up and calling you to let you know about the problem and made communication difficult. Since the pandemic is not their fault and they are just trying to do what is best, I can’t hold it against them. Five stars would recommend to anyone with an animal emergency.
I am so grateful for Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital. After my little dog was attacked by another dog, I was able to rush her there on a Sunday morning. Dr Schroeder swooped in and helped my sweet little dog. I am forever grateful. Everyone was kind and caring to me as I was trying to stop crying and give them the information. Hearing a animal in pain is one of the worst things I have ever heard. Thank you to all the people that help animals. God Bless You All
I was here last night and into this morning for an issue with my cat. From the moment I walked in the entire staff took amazing care of both my pet and of me. They made sure I understood everything that they were doing and the finances that would be involved. They allowed me to come home and get some sleep and pick my boy up in the morning with no additional cost. Having met a couple of the vet techs and the veterinarian who was handling my cats care I felt very relieved and was able to get a great night of sleep knowing that he was receiving wonderful care. I cannot recommend this facility enough!
They took such good care of my old girl Lizzie. They kept me updated and made me feel at ease as well. I can’t say enough good things about them.
I was very pleased with the experience I had at the emergency hospital. They were very busy so I had to wait a few hours before they could see my dog, but everything was very well organized and they followed up with me to keep me updated. They even text me pictures of my dog as she waited.
The technician did a very good job of explaining things in detail for what was going to happen to my furbaby and how to give the medication properly after she was released! We haven’t had any complications and if we need anything they answer their phones almost right away!
The only down side is if you have a lower income, they might be a little pricey depending on what you need done.
Good job to the staff and the work they did.
I can’t express how impressed I was with Dr. Ward in words. He really takes the time to talk with you & truly find the best course of action to take for both pets & pet parents. His actions last night showed that he is honestly more interested in helping the pet - not making money. Thank You for your time & care.
KC Bushnell & Rockey
Dr. R Mallard was very informative, spent a lot of time talking through treatments.
This place, I cannot praise enough. Even though we lost the fight to keep our pet, I believe that the dr and techs here did everything possible to save her.
They also tried at every turn to save us money and overall they were much more affordable than I expected. Having worked for a similar place in Texas I had an idea what it would cost.
I will use VESH next time in need, without hesitation.
Thank you guys so much for the paw print with which to remember her by. <3
Our dog had a Sunday morning emergency.
The staff was very helpful, responsive and thorough.
The clinic was very busy but service was prompt nonetheless and our emergency issue was resolved with their assistance.
They were waiting at the door when I brought my Yorkie in who was suffering with heat stroke. They keep me updated and provided the kindest caring compassion! Excellent staff and facility!! He came home the next day! 😊 …
We are from out of town. It was New Years day, and it was late evening.... yes we had to wait, lol.. but they got my dog in, checked out, and they did observation for several hours before giving him the all clear to go home... and at the end of it all... they didnt charge us a dime. Unbelieveable in this day and age!
Thank you all so much for looking after my little buddy!! Hosmer is back home in Nebraska and doing great!
Thank you, our Maggie May was born July 9, 2015. Our oldest Son passed way on July, 18. My husband got Maggie for me, she was just 6 weeks old, I wish that my Husband would of gotten her brother, so she would never be alone or scared when she wasn’t with me. Maggie May is pretty strong! We all went thru Hell, we were so lost, we were actually homeless for 7 months. We were done!! But then finally we got up on our feet and started to walk, we now are doing very well money wise. But we will never be the same! Maggie was with us the entire time! I went without for her!!!! I would do it again!!!!! You see that she is not just a pure bred beagle, she also is my child. Last night is so hard to take, I feel as if I was somehow losing my Son again. I can’t keep from crying watching her sleep today! THANK GOD FOR YOU ALL OF YOU! ! Pearl and Billy Roberts
Very Very Quick Service!!! They took very good care of my dog, they came to my car to get her with limited paperwork, and called me with results within 15 minutes. All in All completely cared for my dog and had her feeling better within about an hour.
If r pet needs immediate care, this is definitely the place to come.
Overall happy with my experience. Due to covid-19 u have really long wait times tho. U dont go in, they email all the paperwork. Then I waited 1.5 hrs in my car with my very sick dog, then they took her in. Waited another 2.5 hrs in my car, where they called a couple times with updates, before finally deciding to keep her overnight. Estimated bill was $909, but final bill was $62 cheaper. They gave her way better meds than my regular vet gave her, and saved her life! So it was worth it for me. Only other down side is NO payment plan. Must have cash or credit for full amount. Initial exam was $120. She was there 20 hrs. They called me every couple hrs with updates.
These people saved Caesar's life yesterday (he's a cat). Saved a piece of mine, too. The staff are wonderful, it's clear they love animals, and their work. Dr Webber brought him out of a glucose crash right as he was going into convulsions, and it was just in time. Kept me totally informed.
I hope you don't have to take a friend here, but if you do you'll get great care.
Just a few nights ago I found that my hamster had suddenly passed away. My roommate suggested calling this hospital, and after a few minutes of holding, received caring and specific information for us. They allowed us to bring my baby girl to their location (despite it being close to 9:30 at night on a Saturday). The woman that helped us was very kind and understanding and made sure we understood our options in terms of cremation and handling of remains. Definitely made an impossible night a little more manageable.
They came out immediately upon seeing us with my bloody fur baby. They took notes on the spot and checked us in outside while the vet tech took my dog for care. They kept us up to date the whole time on my dogs status and the vet was honest about outcomes and procedures needed. They worked with our financial status and kept us well informed and with options. At checkout they gave clear easy to follow instructions and my dog wasn’t in visible pain anymore. Would highly recommend to anyone in an emergency!
I took my cat in for urinary concerns. He was meowing after hopping out of the litter box and licking frequently. It was 11:30 PM when we arrived. It took 4 hours for his first visit. They didn't think he was blocked but just aspirated bladder and did not cath him. I wish I had asked if he should have stayed until urination. He still had same symptoms and then by the afternoon he was definitely worse. I appreciated that they did not charge $125 exam fee again since we had just been there less than 24 hrs. The billing is confusing. They didn't say it was a running total and I thought the estimates were in addition to what I had already paid. Price went from $125 to $300 to $1300. The vets did talk to me via phone due to COVID. I called back after discharge and had to call multiple times to get questions clarified on his meds but did get through. They could not explain very well why he was supposed to take Melatonin 3 mg twice a day. His regular vet said to stop and that he was so drugged she was surprised he could stand up. He was also on Gabapentin 100 mg twice a day. Overall I'm glad the service is available and they do try to be open about costs just the format of the estimates is confusing. I was grateful they were available for my emergent need on a weekend!
We accidentally gave my diabetic dog a double dose of insulin, which can be fatal for such a tiny dog. We took her at 10:pm and they immediately took her inside and did the blood work to determine she already had dangerously low sugar levels. They put her in ICU overnight and get her stabilized by the next afternoon. Dr Jen was amazing. Expensive, yes, worth it yes. They saved my baby.
I was able to get my dog in almost immediately on a Sunday morning. They did let me know they were several hours behind so I left and they called and texted with updates. Everything is so overpriced though and they even told me they charge 3x the amount what my primary vet does. When my dog was ready to be picked up I headed that way. I called and let them know I was there and I was told he would be right out. 50 minutes later they finally brought him out to me.
my Rox(catahoola) luved dr heather and staff 🐾🐾🐾🐾 they have angel wings 🕊️ …
We’re from out of town and had one dog get in a scuffle with our other dog in the car - had a bite wound on her face.
It was a Saturday evening and the place was slammed. Took a couple hours to even be seen for triage and a couple more to see the
doctor. We kept getting pushed back due to emergency cases coming in, which is understandable.
We ended up in a larger room that looked like it was used for therapy and storage instead of a regular exam room. That was the only room available at the time. Would have been okay except it was cold in there and only the cold floor for our dog to lie on - not good for a senior, thin-skinned greyhound. I sat on the floor so she could at least lie against me.
I left our dog for them to sew up her laceration. Very expensive - emergency vets usually are, I guess - although it ended up being a few hundred less than first quoted. Not sure what would have happened if we couldn’t pay that much except to wait to see our own vet on Monday and that wasn’t acceptable. Looks like this area needs another emergency vet. There were several of us there waiting to be seen for hours, but they had a steady stream of people coming in, and a few whose pets needed to be seen immediately (hit by a car, seizures, etc.).
Anyway, they called several hours later when she was ready to pick up and went over how it all had gone and her after care very thoroughly. Overall, they did a good job getting our girl fixed up and fortunately they were knowledgeable about the different physiological needs of greyhounds (that can make the difference between life and death, especially related to sedation).
It wasn’t a fun experience but they were slammed and doing their best from what I could tell. Everyone was friendly and professional. It’s been a couple days since then and our dog seems to be feeling just fine. We’re giving her medication as prescribed. We’ll get her stitches out at our home vet after another week or so.
A short weekend getaway ended up being a bit less relaxing and a lot more expensive than planned! But I admit I’m grateful they were there to help.
Dr. Townsley and the team here did an amazing job of taking care of my kitten, Yuki. They kept me well informed of her status and made sure I understood what was going on, despite being very busy with many other patients. Even if they couldn't speak with me right when I called, they were always willing to make a note and call me back later. Yuki stayed there a little under a week and I never felt like they weren't doing everything they could to help her. Thank you so much for taking care of Yuki. She is doing very well and I'm happy to have my little shadow back home.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. We are so thankful for their quick work and their kindness. Our dog Maggie was in the best hands after a horrific attack. She is now home and we know exactly what her aftercare looks like. We called several times a day and came in to see her and they NEVER once acted like we were a nuisance. We frequently spoke to the vet on the phone and the techs were beyond wonderful. Even the front desk receptionists were incredibly kind. From the bottom of our hearts--thank you. - The Kliewer Family
Amazing staff. Very responsive and friendly. Took very good care of both my dog and I during an emergency. They will keep you updated on everything and don’t mind if you call in to get some peace of mind. They talk you through everything. I am very thankful for there quick responses and overall services.
They provided valuable information from the time we called them, during the intake process and when they completed the procedure with our dog, Lefty. The staff (Tasha) showed so much compassion when she took him into the facility and when she brought him back out. I would definitely recommend VESH for your pet emergencies.
Hands down the best experience I could have asked for. My Grandma's very old and sickly Chihuahua was having trouble on a Sunday and she was VERY well cared for (and so was my worried grandma).
The vet was stellar and the cost was more than reasonable.
Took care of our puppy when she got into my adhd medication. They responded quickly, new what to do, explained the treatment plan, and got her back to us in two days. We are so grateful for the doctors and staff here.
They took care of the issue and the dog is doing well. The only thing I can offer for their service is when they tell you they will be right out, that means in the next five minutes, if it's going to be 20 or 30 minutes don't say they will be right out but say 20 or 30 minutes they will be out. Promise longer and deliver shorter.
I brought my boy Diesel in with bad seizures, the staff is amazing and very good, so helpful, they got him stabilize for the night so we could take him to our primary vet.
We got him to our vet where he's resting and getting put on medication he needs.
Without this staff's help and quick action, I would have lost him last night.
My wife and I love you all, and are so grateful to still have our baby Diesel, thanks to the entire staff, from the receptionist to the tech's and Dr.'s.
Thank you. Thank you so very much.
Over the weekend our 18 year old cat took a turn for the worse and was displaying signs of breathing trouble. It's so hard to say goodbye to your best friend and I just wasn't sure the time was really now. I called to get some advice and Tori answered. She was so reassuring and kind. When we got to the hospital, Abby came to gather information. She too was so very reassuring and understanding. After speaking with Abby, I immediately felt better about my decision to bring our sweet Chloe in. After a thorough exam, Dr. Howell called to give me her findings. Although a grim prognosis, Dr. Howell was so kind, informative and knowledgeable. She answered all of my questions and was very patient with me. When I picked Chloe up, I spoke with Rebecca, whom was also very kind. I just appreciate the compassion from all, especially when going through a difficult time.
My pup was injured pretty badly for a small dog. The staff here answered all of my questions and took such good care of my baby. They were trustworthy, efficient, and very caring. 10/10 would recommend them. Thank you so much for taking such good care of tiny Turbah!
Dr. Winter and his team took amazing care of my cat when she needed dental surgery. The referral process was easy, at her consult when she wouldn't stop hiding in my coat Dr. Winter let her stay there for the entire exam until she was relaxed and purring, and the communication before, during, and after the surgery itself was incredible. Thank you so much!
This hospital is SO over the top excellent with care for your pet. By far the best communication from the vets themselves and while it can be expensive, I never once felt as though I was having unnecessary services or being charged in excess. the entire staff are as caring with the humans as they are with your pets. If your pet is in critical state they are taken back immediately for car and you are provided instant information even with a wait. I highly recommend and only wish all vets in Kansas had this level of care. many thanks to all the great people at this hospital.
I am very thankful that they were there for our little angel. She was very sick and needed 24 hour care and even though we weren't able to be there with her the care she received saved her. It's obvious the staff cares a great deal about their petients!! Thank you for getting our little sweetheart healthy and home where she belongs!!! 🐾🐾🐾
Original post 5/13/21:
I was very disappointed with my experience at the speciality portion of the clinic. This is the only place in town who performs the procedure my cat needed—kstate was my other option but I couldn’t get in until July, so I opted for the earlier appointment, which I regret immensely. I had an 8am appointment, and my cat was not picked up from me in the parking lot (Covid restrictions) until approx. 8:40. There was a severe lack of communication regarding the processes and procedures that would be taking place, and no one could provide me a direct answer to any of my questions. I continued to ask how long the procedure would take and was regularly met with “I don’t know” “it depends.” By the time I called at 12:45pm to check on progress, I had no answers and was told to call back in the afternoon. I called back around 2:30pm and was on hold for 20 minutes, only to be told that the main part of the procedure was just beginning. My cat was getting an echocardiogram—which I have a hard time believing takes 8 hours—but again, I wouldn’t know because no one advised me of anything. When I picked her up, again I’m left in the dark on any information and having to ask my own questions on what happens from here—only to be told that the vet is gone and they send out the results to be read by a radiologist. I again waited in the parking lot for 30 minutes for her to be brought out.
I asked if I would obtain a copy of the report which is prepared by the vet, and was repeatedly told it is sent to my vet to disseminate. I have yet to call my vet; however, still have no clue if the results have even been received yet. I have no clue the results of the procedure and paid $900 to know absolutely nothing. Never mind the fact I was told $900, then $1200, then my card was charged for $882 as their “base rate” and adjusted to $900. I could go on about my complaints, though in summary will never recommend this clinic for speciality services and plan to tell my vet of my opinion as well. Maybe I would feel differently for emergency services, but I cannot speak to that.
If you have the option to go to kstate for a procedure, I would recommend that. I obtained more information from a 5 minute phone call with kstate than I did during any portion of my process with this clinic.
***edit*** 5/31/21: the medical director contacted me on 5/20/21, though I was unavailable and called him back a couple times before we were able to connect about the above issues. He was very kind and interested in understanding my poor experiences. He was able to provide me insight into the procedure and I let him know of my concerns regarding the lack of transparent communication, as well as the lack of knowledge of the procedure from those I spoke to—who were unable to provide me direct answers to my questions. He informed that this will be addressed. I also received a copy of my report, and it appears there was some issue with my vet receiving the report though this was easily remedied. I felt much better after speaking to the medical director and hope that in the future the staff directly interacting with clients are able to provide more knowledgeable answers to questions.
The Emergency Hospital is exactly that and I will use it as that if I have to. Everyone is extremely professional and friendly. They put up with my calls and questions in a totally professional manner. I just wish it wasn’t so crazy expensive. I can’t even compare it to what my regular vet charges but it was the weekend and I needed to get my dog in to someplace or I would have been paying for cremation. The new facility is gorgeous from the outside ( still observing COVID-19 restrictions) but I did wait in the parking lot for over 4 hours before they let me know I could go home and wait.
I was fostering a stray cat, had recently had him neutered, when he apparently reopened the incision My living room looked like a crime scene, just blood all over. Of course it was 5pm on a Monday. My vet (Mulvane) was already closed, El Paso, Rainbow, Skaer all said they were full and couldn't see him because "we're closing soon" (soon = 1 hour!). I took him to VESH and was pleasantly surprised to find it only cost me $25 more than a regular office visit elsewhere. He was very well cared for. They even took the time and care to bundle up the bloody towels from his carrier and bag them up as well as clean and disinfect the carrier! He healed up so nicely I was able to pass him on to his adopter that same week. While I'm still so disappointed these vet clinics were so concerned with watching that clock for closing time, I'm just so grateful for VASH's professionalism and true concern for animals.
We were there on July 2nd about 11:30 pm. A very busy night for them as they had 40 other patients to take care of. We sat in the parking lot for about 4 hours while our dog was being taken care of. I appreciate the technicians and doctor keeping us updated on what was going on. I could complain about the wait time but there really isn't much that can be done about it. But at least my dog got taken care of and is feeling much better now.
This was my first experience with an emergency vet, and they took such good care of my cat Alice. Dr. Townsley took the time to explain all the details and testing necessary, and she even sent me a photo of my cat during her stay to make me feel better. It’s the little things that make such a great experience! I would recommend this place to anyone. My cat is happy and healthy again :)
Our fur baby was hit by a car and they took the most excellent care of her! They called with updates or gave us times to call for updates. They sent us pictures of her while she was there since we weren’t allowed in the building (COVID precaution). We were very impressed and beyond thankful to have them in Wichita!
My dog got the care she needed, but it was very frustrating on my end. Of course it's difficult to run a business without being able to bring the pet's owners inside during covid. We were originally overcharged for several medications, by almost 400 dollars. They did fix the bill which was much more reasonable. I just don't know why it took so long to get my dog back to me. I spent such a long time waiting in the car, over an hour after they called and said my dog was ready. However they were very apologetic. Hopefully in the new building things will run more smoothly.
Dr. Alex and staff were great! They were very informative and kept in touch all day with updates. I wish Dr. A worked at a vet clinic outside of emergency....she made me feel so much better about the awful incident with my princess dog. Even helped with a grant to help cut cost down! She was amazing!
Definitely a good place to go if in need !
They took great care of my dog, Shiloh. Staff is friendly and provided good communication regarding my dog and her diagnosis.
From his wife: We had to bring our little guy in last night after an eye injury and the amazing people there went right into action as soon as we walked in the door. They were really sweet and compassionate while I was a crying mess. They checked him over, came out right away to let us know what they needed to do and gave us detailed instructions on what to do once we got home. They not only saved my pups eye but his vision. I hope we never have to see them again but if we do, I won’t hesitate to bring any of our dogs in. Another family came in saying goodbye to their dog and they were so respectful. They turned out some lights and turned a candle on so anyone else coming in knew that there was someone saying goodbye. I am truly thankful that they were there last night.
Overall, the staff I interacted with were very nice, Dr.Amy was very thorough and explained everything clearly at each step and made sure it was well understood.
The reason for the 3 stars was because my visit took 10+ hours. There was a lot of “critical” animals coming in and my kitten was skipped at least once. They established an hourly update on their own then the updates jumped to every three hours without explanation. I was left with the impression my 15 week old kitten was left in a kennel, in pain for 6+ hours without any relief, adding stress to an already stressful situation. The hospital was honest and explained that criticals took priority but there should be a max time limit before a patient can no longer be skipped or something. My impression is the team there truly can do better.
It was very disappointing to interact with what seems to be a very good staff and great physician but then be trapped in a non-priority status the way my kitten and we were.
Dr Townsley helped my cat when she had a UTI. I had to take her to emergency vet bc it was day before thanksgiving and my vet was closed for holiday. Dr Townsley was knowledgeable and compassionate with her care. I felt her choice of action for medical treatment was spot on. They are upfront with cost of treatment, so no surprises. I have taken my dog there too and received good care for her as well.
I was hysterical when my baby lost her eye. Staff was very responsive and I felt I was leaving her in good hands. The Dr explained everything to me so I could understand what was happening. When I picked her up the next day after surgery staff explained everything very well. The written report they gave me answered my questions. Would not hesitate to utilize them again but am truly hoping I won’t have to 😁
We woke up to our cat drooling. We have not established a vet yet so we took him here. The staff was very professional. The price was very reasonable, and they made every precaution to make you comftorable and to also follow Covid precautions. Everything was easily done online. Checking in, paperwork, signing everything. We dropped him off, and they called us when he was ready. The vet even sent me a pic of my baby. We waited outside for them to bring him out. They had coolers that said help yourself, which I am assuming was water. It just made the experience so much easier. I appreciate them.
Compassionate staff. My only complaint was they need better communication with the pet parents that have to wait outside. I understand the wait but someone needs to let the pet owners what is happening. But I would definitely recommend.
They did a thorough exam of my dog and gave me a lot of info on possible treatments. The cost of the treatments seems reasonable given other expenses I've had previously. They took good care of him and gave me great instructions for at home/follow-up. They were also great about observing proper Covid-19 protocols, even standing in the rain to talk to me in my car rather than having me come in.
The wait was unimaginable - eight hours in my car (I was told not to leave). I didn't really get a sound diagnosis, but paid $100 for the RX's and $125 for the visit. I understand it was a busy night, but geeze....8 hours? And, I was told that after they checked her out within the hour they took her in, she was fine, her vitals were fine... So, why not return her to me and let me go?
On the other hand, the staff was amazing. I dealt with several employees and they were all helpful and pleasant.
My pet Teddy Bear was bound to pass away, within a few days if I hadn't taken him to V E & S Hospital, but they have expert Veterinary Doctors, staff, and medicine.
Kinda pricey, but when it comes to my buddy Teddy, I didn't think twice about taking him there. I didn't know about the options for his recovery care, but the Doctor explained them to me, and gave me instructions that I follow, and now Teddy Bear is now almost 100% back to dragging things around in the yard again, but I'm happy! Thank you so much!
It was an amazing experience. They kept me informed all throughout my furbabies stay. I even got pictures sent so l could see Daisie and know she was safe and comfortable. The staff and Drs were so patient with Daisie (she is not the best when seeing the vet) I highly recommend this emergency hospital for all your pets.
they were prompt and effective. They did a complete workup on my pet Which had a bladder infection. They prescribedMedication and told me that if I have any more problems I could come in for free that same day.Gave me names of veterinary services in my area because I am new here in Wichita and am unable to ask friends.
It is difficult when one is unable to go in with their pets to give a truly effective review since we cannot meet the veterinarian or their staff.Otherwise I am happy with the service I received or my pet received.
