I couldn’t be happier with the patience and care my dog cowboy received on his visit. On November 3rd. Cowboy had his teeth cleaned for the first time. We were both so nervous and scared. Upon checking in we met Dave. He was amazing!!!! Dave was kind, patient and knowledgeable. He was with Cowboy from the beginning to the very end. He even walked us out to our car.

2023 Update: We trust Dr. Shuler and his team of veterinary professionals with our animals implicitly and are incredibly thankful for their attentive care and will continue referring friends and family. Dr. Shuler identified an abnormality in one of our dogs during a routine dental cleaning and excised what ended up being a tiny foci of melanoma which thankful appears to have low histologic grade and negative margins. The attention to detail and expertise enabled early diagnosis of something that could’ve easily turned into something life threatening and morbid for our dog. He has talented colleagues in the clinic and we have been thankful for his connections to high quality veterinary specialists in the Portland metro area. Original Review: Love NW Neighborhood Vet; was recommended to us by a friend and appreciate their friendliness, the team of vets’ knowledge, and clear communication with shared decision-making around the care of our huskies. These people are incredible. They are so helpful, supportive and patient! I have been going here for three years and am so comforted knowing my puppy is getting such good care. We are so grateful for all of the team at NW Neighborhood Veterinary. My cat Suki is loved by each and everyone that works there. They treat us like family and give the best care to her as she enjoys the late years in her life. The entire team is on top of it! Took their time in the initial exam to make sure she was healthy and good to go with surgery. Was very happy with how much knowledge they have with rabbits! This has been my vet for many years. Until the pandemic, I ran my own behavioral training, groomer, daycare, ect. business and I have a lot of working knowledge around veterinary (I was a vet major for 2 years before switching majors). All that said, I'm very picky when it comes to the care my animals get, and the services I recommend to my clients. I definitely recommend this vet office to anyone looking for a compassionate vet, great staff, and honorable service. No, they're not the cheapest in town, but they definitely aren't the most pricy either. I would say they are worth every penny I've spent over the last 5 or 6 years. Most recently, my mom had to euthanize her beloved German Shepherd, and we opted for at home euthanasia, and my mom decided she wanted to choose the pet funeral home. Traffic and other issues caused me to be delayed in getting to her place the following day. Unfortunately, all the crematoriums close around 4pm. With that, we struggled to find a place to take her body for cremation Her vet seemed upset with us choosing another place for the service, and refused to take her body. We called around to at least 20+ places asking for reference or resources. Finally, I called my vet (NW Neighborhood), and they said they would happily take her, even though she wasn't a patient of theirs. Not only did they store her body until pickup (they used one of our top 3 cremation facilities), they also got a beautiful hair clipping as a last minute request, free of charge! When I lost my girl in August 2021, her primary veterinarian donated a tree planting in her honor. The care, compassion, and true love for the animals really shows at this place, and I truly can't thank them enough for all the wonderful services they've provided (and will continue to provide my other animals)! I am happy to drive the extra distance, even though we've moved away from downtown. They're our forever vet! 💕

We have been bringing our dogs here for almost 10 years and have never been disappointed or had any issues. The entire staff is super friendly and attentive, and you can tell they adore animals. Dr. Gowing has been our primary vet, but when we have had emergencies and he is not available we have always been able to see another doctor and each one has done an excellent job caring for our dogs. 100% recommend trusting this team with your furry family members!

I am not typically one to take the time to leave reviews online, but I felt NW Neighborhood Clinic has earned one from me. We've been clients with many pets over the years, and this practice is filled with caring and compassionate individuals. My adult daughter entrusted us with her childhood Netherland Dwarf rabbit when she left for college, and the sweet girl is now going on 9. Both Dr. Becky Prull and Dr. Sarah McCormack have been fantastic regarding care for this tiny 2 lb rabbit, who has been battling various infections and afflictions in her senior years. Dr. McCormack was able to squeeze our bunny into her busy schedule last week in order to personally follow up on her care. Her level of care and communication has been extraordinary. We all know how overworked vets have been lately, but the vets I've worked with at NW Neighborhood Clinic never rush you, they answer all questions, and even reply to emails promptly. My pets can't talk to me, so I am grateful I have vets like these to help communicate on their behalf!

I am consistently pleased with the service we receive here. Everyone from the doctors and vet techs to the front desk staff have been helpful and compassionate. I am particularly grateful to have found Dr. Hook as our primary vet--she truly cares about and understands my epileptic senior dog, listens to my concerns, and works with me to figure out the best course of care. Veterinary treatment is never cheap, but I have found that they are up-front about cost and are willing to discuss options any time there's a concern. I'm happy to have found this place and still make the trip, even after moving across town, because I have a veterinarian I trust.

We recently moved from the SE to the NW so instead of trying to fight traffic anytime we had to take our pups to the vet we thought we'd try a vet out on our side of the river. We would be sad to say good bye to our vet but were so happy when we found NW veterinary hospital. We absolutely love our new veterinarian. She is so good with the pups and so knowledgeable. Her energy is very comforting and welcoming. Everyone that works here is great, from the front desk to the vet techs. This place is steady busy and I understand why. You definitely have to make an appointment to get in they are that busy and that good. I will say parking is limited. They only have like 6 spots in the front and I don't think there are any other spots available. Sad to say goodbye to our previous vet but so happy we found this one!

The information and assistance they provide during a visit is helpful and reassuring. I also love that they responded to the Covid situation accordingly and created a great process for visits. I have been using the dedicated staff's skill sets at this vet hospital since its inception. I have seen it grow from a few vets to the efficient machine that it is today. Some entities might have risked loosing their "compass" and hire mediocre staff - NOT this place. I will not hesitate to allow any of the Veterinarians there treat my dog. The support staff is top notch and I love the fact that the veterinarians sing their support staff praise every time I visit. It shows the true team work that makes this place exceptional. I’ve had the pleasure of bringing my kitty to the amazing team at NW Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital for a number of years now. Every visit, we are greeted with warmth and kindness across the board! The staff are so caring and gentle with my cat, Delilah, no matter what the visit entails. They treat her with as much care and concern as if she were a part of their family. We live really far away from Northwest Neighborhood Vet but we go here because they provide quite good service for 2 of our dogs and our cat. They are always friendly and all the doctors we’ve seen have been super helpful and caring. Well there was one time where they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with one of our dogs but he ended up being fine so it’s all good.

I've brought my bunny and my beloved cat here and have only had great experiences. Everyone that I've encountered here, the vets, techs, and front desk staff, have all made me feel comfortable and welcome, which is saying a lot because I'm a nervous pet parent. The staff is very competent and I feel confident that my babies are in good hands. It's also worth noting that the prices seem very reasonable to me. I've been surprised in a good way at how little we've gotten out of there for. I'd highly recommend! Update: it’s 5 years later and I still stand by this review. They’re the best veterinarians I’ve ever been to. Not just in skill, knowledge, and competence but also in demeanor and the way they’ve interacted with me. I never feel unheard or dismissed here. I really value their service and that’s why I’ll stick with them now that I’ve added dogs to my assortment of animals.

Since we moved to Oregon in 2018, I have been bringing my two cats here for their annual check-ups, and other health concerns (luckily, very few). The staff at NW is exceptional, and so helpful. They know their clients, and do their best to provide top-notch service. I've never felt my cats were in uncaring hands with NW. Highly recommend! :)

Highly recommend this vet in Portland if you have cats! I have two senior cats with different illnesses and they get very good care here. They are very timid cats and don't like going out much but they can handle the kind staff at this vet. We see Dr. McCormack and she is fantastic with felines - highly recommend if you have cats. When giving you feedback on how your cat is doing, she really seems to care and enjoys being around cats which is important to them of course! My cats would give this vet, and especially Dr. McCormack, two paws up!

I’ve taken my dog Louie here for 8yrs and have seen many different vets and technicians over the years - all of them are so caring and kind and professional. I never feel like they are trying to “sell” me on anything, they lay out all the facts and all the options for his care and allow me to make an informed decision. Plus they are all so sweet to work with. That’s especially important to me right now when with COVID we humans have to wait outside while they see my dog. Our cat needed vaccines as she is temporarily living with family who have other cats and the Veterinarian helped answer all of my questions and advised me on the best, yet affordable options available to me. This seems like a wonderful veterinary practice! Took my new (10-year-old) cat here for the first time during Covid19. They had great system to protect clients and employees. Human clients stayed in parking lot and spoke to the vet by phone. Everyone was both professional and personal. This was a well cat introductory visit. Delighted with the thoroughness and concern on the part of the veterinarian who saw my cat, Dr. Kim Maun. She was great to talk to, no rush, willing to discuss any concerns. I highly recommend this practice.

This vet has gone above and beyond in helping with care of my cat. My cat came here to get an x-ray done, in which I originally felt we weren't treated fairly. Upon that review, I received a phone call asking how they can do better and better serve my cat. I am so grateful for the care we've been given here. The most friendly vet clinic in Portland! All the employees -- receptionist, vet techs, veterinarians -- are all very friendly and very helpful. They are gentle with the animals. They provide great information to ensure your pet is healthy. They don't pressure you with unnecessary shots & procedures. They take new clients and generally have a lot of availability regarding appointments. I highly recommend this place, esp if you live in the Portland metro area.

They are so kind and compassionate towards my cat, Kibby. They are so knowledgeable and experienced. They dont try to upsell you like they do at other vets I have been to. They have saved my cat's life on multiple occasions. I have been taking him there his whole life (9 years and counting) and although I moved out of the neighborhood, I still make the trip. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else! If you're looking for amazing care with lovely, friendly and understanding people, this is your ideal spot!

The vet and the staff were awesome during our visits. I felt that my elderly terrier was well cared for and when she passed they sent a very sweet card. My biggest complaint is the clinic's medication policy. My dog was on several medications which were very expensive at the clinic. In her last year, the medications began to exceed $200 per month. After searching online, I found a $60 arthritis medication was only $7.50 through an online pharmacy (Chewy and 1-800-petmeds). The vet did give me a physical prescription I could send to the online pharmacy, however when the online pharmacy called the clinic to verify the prescription, the clinic refused to verify the written prescription. When I called, I was told the same thing, the clinic does not verify prescriptions. I ultimately switched vet clinics because of this. I really felt gouged with the cost of tests and medications. I understand the cost of testing can add up, especially for an elderly dog, but personally, I cannot justify buying a $60 medication from the clinic that I can get online for $7.50. I felt that the clinic's refusal to verify a prescription they gave me was enough cause to take my pet elsewhere.

We have seen a couple of Drs, but Dr. Lambruschi is our regular Dr. She is kind, listens to my concerns and never tried to upsell services my cats do not need. Switching vets to NW Neighborhood was the best decision I ever made for me and my two doggos. We've now had two minor surgeries and many appointments across three different and all amazing vets, and I couldn't be happier. They go out of their way to make the dogs comfortable and secure during their visits, and the whole office staff gives them tons of attention. I love this hospital. They have cared for my cat and my dog now, and have been amazing for both of them. They primarily see Dr. Shuler, who is amazing, but my dog has also seen Dr. McCormack, and I have had interactions with the rest of them as well. All of them are wonderful. One of the best parts about the doctors here is that they take the time to really explain what they are seeing with your pet, every possible course of action, and their recommendations. They are always considerate of the cost, emotional and financial, of any action and make sure you are comfortable with the decision you make. Both of my pets have had appointments and surgery here, and in every case, I am well communicated with and feel genuinely cared for by every member of the team. This is a great practice all around.

This is a wonderful vet with super caring and accommodating staff. I usually see Dr. Hook but on at least three occasions I've had minor emergencies with my Polish Sheepdog and every time they were able to squeeze us in same day with different vets and they've all been lovely and fixed my monster up quickly. I'm sure there are less expensive vets to go to, but I also don't think that they are overpriced. They have always given me several treatment options with varying prices and have never pushed for the expensive route. I truly feel that they advise you as if it were their own pet. And they always call me at least once or twice after our visits to make sure the pup is getting better. Couldn't recommend this place more.

These are wonderful vets and staff. I was so nervous to bring my cat in who can be aggressive and very nervous at the vet and they were so great with him. The vet sat on the floor and talked/calmed him down with treats until she was able to pick him up and move him to the exam table. I was shocked at how well he did. 5/5 and will be returning next year to get my buddy checked out. Thanks for calming down this worried pet owner.

Very happy I found this clinic for Rufus. The staff is very friendly, and the vets have been knowledgeable, thorough and answers all my questions. Rufus and I especially like Dr Sarah McCormack. She’s so good with him even when he’s completely freaked out and scared. They have been consistently on time for appointments. The waiting area is really large, so you can keep dogs away from each other if needed. They have a small selection of toys and food to buy on the side. Lots of parking outside.

We have been attending NWNVH for the past four years and both of our dogs never want to leave. The staff provides excellent service. They truly care for your pets needs. After losing our boxer last August, we thought we would not be able to return, but she loved it there so we took our new puppy. We are glad we did. She absolutely loves it there. We even have to run for blocks once she realizes where she is at to get there. She just can't wait to go in, say hi and get a treat. If they are closed she is upset that she couldn't go inside. The entire staff is very passionate about animals and will take care of them while they are there. No need to worry as you have left your loving family member(s) in good hands.

Our dog has some skin problems and after doing our research we found that this place had the right doctor who specializes in aging dogs and skin disorders. We were very pleased with Dr. Hook. She has great attention to detail and knows her stuff. We know because we do our research and we don't walk in anywhere blind. Information is a powerful thing. 5 stars for Dr Hook. This place would have gotten one or two stars if it weren't for Dr Hook. This place would have gotten 4 or 5 stars if they had better customer service. i sent them an email asking a detailed question after our last visit - no response. I let that go and still decided to go back there for a second time. After this last visit, I called them on a Friday asking if I can return an unopened item we just purchased less than 24 hours ago. I was told that management was not there and they will call me Monday, no phone call. Two strikes is all it takes for me to conclude what level and quality of customer service a business has. Smiles and pleasantries are great but quality customer service is tested when real service needs to be rendered. Ill go here if I need Dr Hook but we may go back to the Pearl Veterinary Clinic coz they have a better staff. My expectation is simple, if I ask you a question, I expect an answer whether its via email, text, Morse code, voice etc. If you cannot extend me that courtesy then you are what i call "Hollow Service" . I can recommend Dr Hook not so sure about this entire practice.

I very much enjoy the NW Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital. It's proximity to my house was initially what drew me to it. Before I researched their services I noticed the wonderful staff walking the neighborhood with some of its less than fortunate overnight or visiting four-legged friends. They were great and I so appreciate the pups getting a good outing. Since actually visiting my experiences have been equally as pleasant. My dog can be weary of some strangers but he knows he's in good hands and is at ease with the staff. I love that all Vets we have seen get on the floor with my 100lb mastiff dane to help put him at ease. I've appreciated all recommendations on treatment and honesty around risk levels, needs and expenses. They have great deals and rebates for long term medications like flea control and heartworm which help save money over time. Especially with a big dog and weight dosages! This is the level of care and cooperation I expect from such a service and I've had pretty standard pet needs. No emergencies, thankfully, so I wouldn't say I've been blown away or they've gone above and beyond but they definitely have my stamp of approval and in the event that my situation presented an opportunity for them to go above and beyond, I wouldn't be surprised if they really wowed me. I've taken my pups to numerous vets, holistic vets, specialists, and dermatologists over the years and I have never experienced the level of care, knowledge, communication, and competence as I have at NW Neighborhood. Every time I call in they are so incredibly helpful and prompt and always remember my dogs. Dr. Prull is also trained in holistic medicine, and she always gives me a variety of treatment options. She calls personally to check on my pups and accommodates to my picky needs and thoughts without judgment. On numerous occasions we've had to see other vets due to emergency situations and every single one of them (and their vet techs/staff) has been outstanding. They are also very transparent about pricing and genuinely care about your pets. We got lucky because they are in the neighborhood (although they have a parking lot - super convenient!) but I will never take my pups anywhere else and I highly recommend them to any pet-parent.

This is the best vet I've ever been to. I had the unfortunate experience of putting my dog down earlier this year, but my sweet dog and I were well taken care of at NW Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital. My dog was comfortable, spoiled and loved on her last day. The vet was empathetic and gentle while answering my questions and she also gave my food-loving dog a whole can of cheese whiz before she put her down. Although I was overwhelmed with emotion that day, I felt very cared for and at peace that my dog (and I) were treated so well. In short, I completely trust them (and I really!! love my cats, so that's a bold statement). We've benefitted from the good relationships the clinic has with local specialists. Communication with their human clients is excellent. When my kitties have procedures done, I get phone calls with updates. She noticed a condition in my dog, Teddy Bear, that other vets had previously overlooked and she went to great extents to ensure that my dog was comfortable during examinations and after. The entire staff at this clinic is, in fact, quite excellent--from the receptionists to the veterinary assistants. The receptionists are very friendly and quite organized, and I have really appreciated their flexibility in scheduling me for last-minute appointments (and accommodating me even when I'm running late!) I remember one time a receptionist even ran to hold the bus for me so I could catch it in time as I was exiting from my session. Our littlest family member was bitten by another dog early on a Saturday morning. Our call to Northwest Neighborhood was met with immediate care for our dog including scheduling of an appointment within hours. The visit with the vet was both professional and assuring. Then the staff followed up by telephone several times the following week to ensure there were no complications with medication or no further problems with the injury. NNVH has been our dog's vet from day 1 and we truly rely on them.

We love taking our dogs to Northwest Neighborhood Vet for check-ups! The staff are all knowledgeable, helpful and kind to the animals. Dr. Prull and Dr. Gowing are wonderful, they are patient doctors who our dogs actually like to see. We always come in with a lot of questions, and they take the time to answer each one thoroughly. When our shepherd mix swallowed a plastic bag which obstructed her intestines and stomach, Dr. Prull took her in for emergency surgery and saved her life. The doctor and staff took us through the recovery process and she was back to her energetic self in no time. We lost her last year, but we know that the care at NW Neighborhood Vet helped us to give her a long, happy life. Our little chihuahua terrier mix is a little more afraid of things, but he actually stops shaking when his familiar vet comes in the room. This vet hospital also has a travel expert, Erin Finucane, who is helping us prepare our little dog for travel plans and airline flights. Couldn't recommend NW Neighborhood Vet more!

Fun fact: Northwest Neighborhood Vet has a travel specialist, which I never knew I would need, but I made a sudden move from Portland to Guam, and without help from Erin at Northwest, I can honestly say my dog probably wouldn't have cleared customs. Eric walked me through the paperwork, scheduled my dog for the updated boosters and chip she needed, and contacted Guam department of agriculture. She kept me in the loop, and was there through the whole process, like more a friend than a vet. I remain grateful and when I return to the area, will continue services with this vet. So, in both the day to day and in unusual circumstances, Northwest exceeded my expectations in quality and kindness. PLUS they are very close to Wallace Dog Park, on NW24th and Parkrose, so after subjecting my dog to trips to the vet, I would reward her by letting her loose in the dogrun. Bonus!

The quality of care your pet will receive is unmatched. My pet never shook from fear nor was anxious for an appointment there. When the time was necessary to be seen by specialists we were thoughtfully referred on and helped through the maze of decisions to make when caring for an aging pet. Dr Prull came to our home after her day had ended and performed the final step, which allowed us to have a very special and memorable final day with our beloved dog. She is normally a high anxiety-ridden dog and only wants to be with her mom. While she is tentative to leave at first she is relaxed and calm when I come to pick her up. She gets more walks in at NWNVH than I am able to offer her working full time! She does really well there and they seem to take extremely good care of her. It's also nice knowing it is at a vets and they only board a few dogs at a time.

We came to NWNHVH a few months ago looking for a regular vet for one of our pet rats--in particular, one of our new baby rats who developed a myriad of health complications from the beginning. Not many places would put in the time, effort, or care for a little rat that Dr. Prull, Dr. McCormick, and all the amazing staff at NW did, because our baby Tio was so young and rats only live for a couple years. But from the very beginning, Dr. Prull and Dr. McCormick worked so hard to help us and Tio, made us feel cared for and heard, and did absolutely everything they could to help him. The first emergency vet we took him to told us he probably only had a couple days left to live, but thanks to Drs. Prull and McCormick we had six amazing months with him. They were incredibly caring and kind to us all the way through the end with Tio, and we are so lucky that we had them on our side.
