They took such good care of my little three month old Ragdoll kitten. The deposits were extremely easy to place and they let us know every step of the way before going ahead with anything. The vets communicated very well with us and I could tell that he was being treated like the precious baby that he is by the way the staff talked to us. I could tell the entire staff were animal lovers and my little nugget would be taken very good care of. He still is feeling under the weather, but while we monitor him on his medication for the next four days, I know that I would take him back to Heart & Soul if his health decreased. They drew little hearts on his name tag as well, which I thought was adorable. I did the initial call, but I was so anxious about him that I only slept for two hours the night before so my partner did most of the communicating. Even though he did the majority of communication, the after care instructions were extremely thorough and easy to follow. Unless I have an after hours emergency, this would be the clinic I would take them to in an emergency in the future. Thank you for taking such good care of our little baby Oliver!

I am a dog trainer who does board and trains as well as boarding. Not to mention I have 3 of my own dogs. Luckily Heart and Soul is so close. I've had to use H&S a couple of times for client dogs and even my own dog. They have always been professional, caring, and forthcoming with any and all helpful information. When it comes to client dogs they have been very patient in coordinating with multiple parties, the owner and myself, to accomplish care. With urgent needs, non-emergencies, they will always be my first call.

I have never been to a better cat vet! They got my little Nallie Muffin in for a medical checkup the same day and made availability for her to come back for a re-check the day after. This was so amazing because every other vet we called would not get her in for 2+ months. The prices are incredibly CHEAP (especially for an emergency vet) and they worked with Muffin even when she was violent (she has never been to a drop off vet so she was mad), they even sent us home with anxiety medicine to help her calm down for her re-check. They did tons of tests to figure out what might be wrong with her and I was so surprised at how low my bill was for everything they did. They recommended environmental changes and diet changes for us to make to help with her temperament and she has never been better since making those changes… she has even started making biscuits again!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this vet! The staff was very friendly and you can tell they truly care about their patients and will do anything to help them!

This has to be one of the top urgent vet cares in Portland, if not the best. Clearly a caring and knowledgeable staff that runs a clear and concise system. If we need emergency care for our pet again we'll make the drive out here again. Luckily nothing was too wrong with our dog, but they did everything with consent and let you know why they you would go each treatment route.

Staff was Fantastic, caring and professional with me during my dog’s emergency visit last weekend. I was anxious to have to leave him in their care because of the drop off only policy….. but they were super detail oriented and very caring in the way they spoke about his situation and care over the phone updates. Everyone I spoke with was great and it eased my nerves during this emergency. Thank you to the staff for being awesome! My little guy had a sprained neck and he was immediately relieved due to the pain killers and anti inflammation capsules. I am so grateful for this team and their offerings. Much Love.

Heart and Soul felt like my pet's emergency was really taken seriously. She was stable so we would have waited hours at an emergency vet, but it was still an emergency so we couldn't wait for her regular vet. She was scheduled same-day and brought inside within an hour of arriving. I received regular updates, and really felt like the technicians and front staff cared about her health. Everything was explained thoroughly and my questions were taken seriously. Though we had no idea what was wrong at first they were committed to figuring it out and she's doing so much better. Kitty put one of her top fangs through her bottom lip last weekend. She was a little evasive about how it happened. Heart & Soul saw her early Monday morning, cleaned her up and made her more comfortable. Dr. Abbatantono called and walked me through treatment options. The staff is warm and friendly, and they don't rush you through the process or questions you have. This is the first time in Portland I've had to seek out animal urgent care, and I'm so relieved to have found this place. Highly recommend! <3

My regular vet wasn’t able to get my cat in right away so I brought her here! They got her in day of, and were able to give her the care she needed so she could come home and get back to feeling better. They also gave thorough instructions on some at home care as well. Very communicative, knowledgeable and compassionate staff. My sweet girl is happy and feeling better. I would definitely recommend bringing your furry friends here!

Heart and Soul saved Sherman’s life this week. My little maltipoo was in distress with congenital heat failure. They were wonderful. Kept me updated and took amazing care of my little boy. My dog aspirated last week while our local neighborhood ER was closed for the day. Frantically calling ERs around the area, not knowing what was wrong with my dog at the time, I was recommended to Heart and Soul Animal Urgent Care. They were able to fit me into a same day apt and when they saw my poor guy wasn't breathing well during our intake they immediately took him in to be seen. Their accurate and quick diagnosis of him and thoughtful treatment plan has helped him make great strides in his recovery. They were warm, compassionate, and held my anxious first time dog mom nerves with such care. Would highly recommend them!

Visiting from out of town my dog started showing signs of urinary discomfort. After calling every er vet in the area, I was referred to Heart & Soul. I called first thing in the morning and the process was efficient but compassionate. They got me in early in the day and despite very long time expectations, they were quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. Diagnostics were done and my dog was sent home with the appropriate medications. Considering what the ER vet could have cost, the prices are extremely reasonable. More than your everyday vet but less than other places I’ve been. Taking my dog to urgent care wasn’t what I expected from my weekend getaway but, given the circumstances, it was the best experience I could have asked for.

I am so thankful for the care our little puppy got! He ate something at the park that really messed with him and the Heart and Soul team took tremendous care of him!!! They were great about caring for our little guy while also making us aware of any costs associated with his treatment so that we were not surprised later on! So so so thankful! Covid has made it hard to get care quickly. But I called and they set up an appointment time easily. The staff was great and friendly and took care of my cat. The care Penelope received was beyond wonderful, the vet Dr. Henwood was so caring and kept me in the loop since i was at home worried and scared. The staff was great and so loving to her even though she was scared and acting a little out of her normal self. They did everything they could to dx her symptoms. All test reports came back ok and she is on road to recovery. So glad she was seen there as her regular vet out of town. Anyone who needs an ER vet should go there. Thank you Heart and Soul.

I was recommended Heart and Soul from my coworker and I’m very happy with my visit. I could tell that Dr Houser is a real person and actually cared for my kitty Simon, and was willing to take my concerns seriously. I feel like I was finally taken seriously. It was quite expensive, but Dr Houser made me feel that not only did she believe in the tests she wanted to run, but wanted to cover all bases to ease my mind. She was transparent, and fun to talk to! The techs and assistants I talked to before my visit as well went above and beyond, verifying pretty much everything before I was told a decision or really anything. Thank you Heart and Soul! I didn’t expect to have such a positive experience with an emergency clinic. I was stressed and very worried for my pet and the very first person I spoke to here was so polite, professional and friendly and every staff member I interacted with after that was the same! My pet was seen in a timely manner although I can’t speak for days where they may be busier or have maybe more critical patients. Dr. Rubin communicated very effectively and offered a practical combination of diagnostics and treatment. The prices seemed reasonable for the services performed and for being seen urgently on a Sunday. I would highly recommend bringing your pet here and will seek them out first if my pet ever needs urgent care in the future. My dog is already looking and feeling better!

Worked my pup into their schedule on short notice to help with her unknown allergic reaction. Everyone I interacted with was super accommodating, polite, and clear. They even brought me some water as my anxiety demanded that I wait out front in the heat until I got my pup back. After a little over an hour she came walking out looking almost completely back to normal. It’s a couple days later and she’s totally back to her normal, happy, chaotic self. Grateful for this team’s kindness in a moment of great anxiety and concern.

Great experience interacting with staff on the phone and in person. They seemed to care about my sick foster kitty and communicated well with me about treatment options. My one regret was that I wasn't aware of the long wait time between drop off and pick up, but that's pretty much my bad for not reading the email they sent me after I paid the exam fee deposit. I must have misunderstood the wait time they told me on the phone of an hour. They must have meant that was the approximate max wait time for her to get admitted. Which, me misunderstanding is unsurprising given the 2 hours of sleep I got before calling them at 7am. For others' reference of what to expect, I ended up being there from arriving at 215 for a 2pm scheduled arrival, they took her back around 230, and to picking her back up at about 630. The vet called me at about 4 to discuss treatment options over the phone, and I am very pleased with the level of care I got over the phone.

I know that all emergency animal clinics are going through a hard time right now with an influx of so many patients, but this clinic was one of the only clinics that truly cared or took the time of day to make sure that my pet was okay today in an emergency with my dog, Maple. They go above and beyond. The prices are great, the vet staff explained everything throughout the entire process to me to make sure that I understood everything. They were not only thorough but they were funny and sweet and cheered me up when I was really worried. Pet emergencies are nightmares, but this clinic made things so much less scary. They were also very fast! I’m so glad they took care of my Maple and she will soon be back to being a full on wiggle butt.

My dog had an infected paw (likely from a foxtail). I had called 4 other emergency vets and all had 24+ hour waits. Called Heart & Soul when they opened at 7am and they had my dog in at 9am. They were friendly, thorough, and the doctor explained my options well and didn’t make me feel pressured to make the more expensive choice. 10/10 recommend this place if you’re in need of emergency care for your fur baby.

Very caring, knowledgeable, and trustworthy— will tell you what’s best and won’t ask you to do anything that isn’t necessary. My dog has pretty bad separation anxiety, but when I picked him up, when the animal healthcare professional walked away he started whining, like he was sad they were leaving! They also personalized his little med bag which was adorable. If your animal has any urgent needs, this is the place to go.

I called six veterinarians who were either not taking new patients or wouldn't see my dog until December. Heart and Soul scheduled an appointment for first thing the next morning. In three hours I had him back with diagnosis and meds. My dog would not have done well waiting until December. It is refreshing to see that there is one vet that cares more about my pet than their schedule.

Our aging beagle had a bad couple of weeks, winding up with a UTI. The urgent care in Tualatin (closer to us) was full, so they recommended H&S. Thankfully we were able to get a same day appointment. Check-in was a little hectic with the number of pets being received, but after getting him situated, I was sent home. After a few hours, Dr. Alexa Bell called and gave me a very thorough update, confirming a probable UTI, and the type of testing and treatment to rule out anything more serious. Everything was explained in a calm manner and I truly felt that our little guy was getting the best treatment. Be aware that they do collect a $98 deposit up front to hold the appointment which is more than fair. It is a business after all. The staff were courteous, and professional. Most importantly, the quality of care was amazing. I hope that we're not in a position to need to trek to NE PDX again anytime soon, but I'm happy to know that such a caring group is at the ready to treat our furry friends.

I came here one morning is distress because my dog appeared to be having trouble breathing. The tech was really nice and reassuring. Before I even got home from dropping her off Dr Katie Ruben called and explained to me what she suspected was going on. She was thorough and knowledgable. She recommended the tests and it turned out she was right. My dog has congestive heart failure. She walked me through what it was and gave me medications to help her. She was so well educated that she was able to tell what was going on without even having to test her. She spoke to me a couple times when I had questions and was compassionate and honest. She even told me if something concerned me I could send a video and they would tell me if I needed to take her to an er. She completely understood my distress. I couldn't have asked for a better Dr to have take care of my girl. She will not lie to you. I asked her point blank if she thought my girl was suffering. She said based on what she saw from my dog she didn't think she was suffering. She would have told me if she was. I would 1000 percent recommend this vet. While I only had the pleasure of speaking with dr ruben all the doctors there are very well educated. UPDATE AS OF 7-29-22: I took my girl in again for a injured leg. Again, they called within an hour of dropping her off. They reccomeed the treatment and were done within another 2 hours. Called me immediately and explained things to me in a way i could understand. They are compassionate, thorough, and not at all condescending when explaining things. I will be going back for any emergencies I can.

After searching a couple days for a vet/ER to help my dog with a leg problem, Heart & Soul came to my rescue. They got Sasha in about 20 minutes after I showed up. They took extra special care of her. I’m sorry I don’t remember everyone’s name but thank you Gianna & Dee and the rest of the team. Hopefully we don’t need an emergency visit again but if we do, Heart & Soul is where we’re going.

Awesome place! My 16 year old cat had something wrong with his paws (turns out he had two ingrown claws that had gotten infected, much sad), I couldn't get him into his usual Vet and was referred here from another Place I called. They were able to get him in right away, were fast and friendly, and did an excellent job! They were incredibly efficient and cared very well for my pet, their communication was also excellent and it was a much less stressful experience for me and my cat then I thought it was going to be. 100% recommend this place. (Also, a big thank you to the person who saw me trying to clean the pad from the cat carrier my little dude got sick on and offered to clean it off for us! That was seriously appreciated!!) Thanks to everyone working here, truly! And the kitty is doing JUST FINE now :)

Getting in to see my regular vet for urgent issues is pretty much next to impossible these days. I found Heart and Soul last year when my dog started limping during a morning walk. They found and fixed the issue very quickly. More recently, my cat was vomiting and was worried about him getting dehydrated (or worse). My vet did not have any urgent appointments open so I called Heart and Soul and they got him in that morning. Erin was so nice and helpful when I called, Dr. Rubin was amazing. My cat seemed so much better after he got home and was back to his usual self within a couple days. I really appreciate this hospital and highly recommend them if needed. They take a deposit upfront, which is different, but it gets applied to the visit total. A little different than most practices around but seems no more expensive than a regular vet. I love this place and I'm glad it's around. Thank you for taking care of my pets, Erin, Dr. Rubin and the rest of H&S staff!!!

We had to take our sweet girl here because she was hunching over, in pain, and had a loss of appetite and activity. Our vet wasn’t able to see her, and Heart and Soul saw us same day. All of the staff were friendly and so sweet. They took the time to explain results fully and answered any and all questions we had. We left knowing Yasmine has Intervertebral Disc Disease. This made it easier to create a treatment plan with our primary vet. I felt that Yasmine was safe with them Heart and Soul. These people really care about your pet, if you ever need urgent care for your pet, this is a good one.

We needed urgent care for our dog who was not doing well post surgery on a Sunday when our regular clinic was closed. Heart and Soul got us in that morning and every person we talked to was compassionate, super helpful, and understanding of our stress. They took their time listening and gathering history, though their intake was also less intense and overwhelming than some other urgent/emergency clinics in town. They communicated clearly and the drop off and pickup process was well delineated and went smoothly. Everything ended up being faster than the times we were quoted, though I understand this may have just been luck based on the cases that presented that day. I really wish we could use them as our regular vet, they were that good. Our dog is feeling much better now and we are so grateful. Would absolutely use them again.

When our chihuahua was having extremely uncomfortable symptoms of an allergic reaction, Heart and Soul really took care of him. The vet tech made our first impression of the clinic very comforting - she came to get our baby with a soft voice and kept talking to him as she brought him to the exam room (this was during the pandemic). Knowing that somebody cares for your fur baby almost as much as you do can seriously make or break the entire encounter, and this tech helped more than she may ever know. I can’t say much on the vet as we did not get to meet her in person, but she was kind and seemed very caring over the phone. She was knowledgeable, patient, and explained things in a way we would understand. Her diagnosis and treatment really seemed to help our pup, and we’re forever grateful that he didn’t have to continue being uncomfortable! Finally, the clinic called the day after our visit to check up on our boy. We appreciated their genuine concern and their tips and tricks for making sure he stayed healthy. We 100% would recommend this veterinary clinic for any emergency services.

Our little dog became extremely sick on Friday overnight and we needed to get care over the weekend. I really appreciate their triaging system, they do a great job at helping you manage expectations. I recommend going to the website before accessing services to get an idea of how it works. Pricing was fair and the doctor did a good job at informing us of our choices. Our little Yorkie-poo is on the mend and it was a relief to be treated with such compassion when she was ill. I highly recommend!

My cat had a bad ear infection and could barely even stand. No vets around here were taking new patients and most of the other emergency vets has very concerning reviews. I was so happy to have found this place! They got her in next day and when the vet was able to see my cat and diagnose, the vet called me and spent 20 minutes on the phone going over treatment options and telling me what it could be. I truly hope my baby never needs an emergency vet again but if she does, I am so happy this place exists. The cost was also far more reasonable than the other emergency vets. If your fur babies need quick help, try here first.

Heart and Soul is the best. They are very organized and have a great system. We needed to get our dog in asap for an issue and we were able to get in that day. Not to mention out within a few hours. Another large animal hospital in town told us it would be 9 hours for triage and 24 hours to see a vet. The staff are super friendly and easy to talk to. You don't feel rushed when talking with them. Heart & Soul was extremely helpful this past week when my cat was extremely sick. On Tuesday we dropped in to see if they could see us for an emergency visit - unfortunately they were full but they were sweet enough to check his vitals/make sure he was stable and gave us a list of other urgent cares. Our cat got worse and we were able to get an appt at Heart & Soul on Thursday. The Vet and Techs were extremely thorough, communicative, and helped us transfer him to a specialty hospital to finish out his care as there were some procedures that they did not have the equipment for. I would definitely recommend!

We took our dog, Howie, to Heart and Soul for the second time this week, and had yet another fantastic experience. They clearly communicate everything from the first moment they examine him, and while we are never in the room, they clearly treat him with the utmost care. Howie has always been anxious about the vet, and both times he's been to Heart and Soul he has come home happy as can be, even after needing some fairly uncomfortable procedures. Highly recommend this facility!

We couldn't get our sweet Wiffle into our vet after he had an abrasion to his eye. Heart and Soul was able to get him in the same day and were really good about explaining the options for care as well as the risks and the costs. Heart and soul was amazing, Dr. Hunter and the staff were very helpful and so understanding and were very sweet and gentle with my pup and also my feelings ❤️ I had a huge scare with my puppy over the weekend and they did every process of elimination to figure out what was causing her to get sick. Much like any emergency vet situation there is always a spendy penny to be putting out but honestly not as bad as I was expecting. I was able to bring my puppy home later that day and they gave me instruction on how to care for her at home and also gave her an anti-nausea shot that made her feel so much better! I'm happy to say my baby is on the road to recovery! Thank you Heart and Soul for taking great care of her, but I really hope I don't need to come back but in the chance that a situation comes up again I will be sure to call them again.

I can’t say enough about this amazing team. Our kitty hates going to the vet and requires sedation. They handled her well. Didn’t push her past her limits and were able to get her treated and home with the least amount of trauma. They also provided updates throughout the day, adjusting her treatment plan as they learnt more about what was going on with her. I felt like they were genuinely looking out for her, paying attention to the signs and not just running tests and racking up costs unnecessarily. A huge thank you from us! Had to bring my Rottie in after she was attacked by another dog, and suffered multiple punctures/lacerations. The staff here are very compassionate, and it’s obvious they treat your pets like they are their own. My dog is on the nervous/reactive side, and the staff here were very willing to work with her. I was able to pick up my girl within the same evening as drop off and she was good to go. They even trimmed her nails for us while she was sedated. Hopefully you never need to go to an emergency vet but if you do, I highly recommend Heart and Soul.

We’ve needed to bring our 5lb Chihuahua, Bill, to Heart and Soul twice now- Once for a cut on his cornea from a blackberry thorn, and just recently for a coyote attack on Monday. They were so caring and acted quickly- Bill was seen immediatly and the staff treated him as their own baby. I feel very secure with our baby in their care and highly recommend them. I was able to have my cat seen same day for a medical emergency very quickly. Being able to drop off my cat and know she was getting care instead of waiting for hours at an emergency vet alone was worth every Penny. The staff were lovely and explained everything up front and I was notified and able to make care decisions as the day progressed. Our dog hurt her leg and was in pain and they provided us same day care that was efficient and kind. I appreciated the drop off setup they have as I have 2 young kids at home and spending a few hours at the vet would have been very difficult. The care was pricey but this was an urgent weekend visit and was less than I was expecting. She's now resting comfortably with pain meds while she heals.

They were very thorough and caring from check-in to discharge; every employee was pleasant. In the end, it was less serious than I feared and they were honest as such; I did not feel overcharged. Highly recommend this urgent care. I had called 11 vets from Vancouver to Portland, everyone was full, didn’t take new clients, or had to put me on a waitlist with no guarantee of getting in. She had quickly gotten sick last night and we were really worried for her, the staff and veterinarian were very compassionate and understanding. They always explained what was going on once I had dropped her off, let me know in advance the cost of services and medicine as they looked over her symptoms to see what she would need, and took the time to explain the medical terms I may not understand. I cannot express enough how helpful and kind everyone was, truly and genuinely thank you for getting us in today.

These folks really do care about the pets they treat and care for. This is one of the most compassionate, kind, and caring veterinary offices I have ever taken my pets to. I have now used their services for 2 of my dogs as well as one of my clients cats and every time I am taken back by just how wonderful they are in every way. Every single staff member have been truly kind , caring, and sincere. The Dr's here are excellent and very good at what they do , they do not push a lot of expensive tests on people trying to just make money. They are understanding and helpfull to those folks that are on fixed income . You can really see the difference and how much they truly care about the animals more than anything else at this office and I found it to be very comforting bringing my pets here . Even in sadness they have a way of making you feel at ease and I don't find the same sense of warmth and compassion at any other vet office I have taken my pets too , not to the extent of Heart and Soul. These folks are amazing people that provide excellent services, they really care and it shows in every way! They deserve more than 5 stars in my opinion and I will continue to trust them with my pets and continue to recommend them to anyone who needs urgent pet care for their pets as well. My cat needed to go to a vet right away and I called many in the area with no luck. I was very upset thinking I would have to go back to the last place I went to years before where me and my cat were treated terribly (VCA on Stark) but I called Heart and Soul - They were extremely kind and helpful on the phone when I first called and they continued their superior service through my whole experience. I was able to get a appointment in a few hours and their drop off/pickup service is great. Best vet experience I’ve had in Portland. Our dog had diarrhea and we were able to be seen in the same day. The staff were really communicative INCLUDING all the financial details and were super clear in terms of time/wait. Everyone was super compassionate and loving with our sweet Olive. The vet explained testing options but was really awesome about giving me all the options so that I could do what was financially feasible for us. I felt like they really heard what was needed and worked with our family in terms of resources to make sure our pet got the best care. This place rocks.

Loved how the front desk staff checked in with me about d/c progress, my pets condition and billing details. They were prompt in providing electronic paper work and unfailingly polite. Erin in particular was a joy to work with. The medical staff is always very clear and communicative regarding my pets condition. The vet who I’ve worked with several times is compassionate, polite, knowledgeable and organized. She just has a neat personality. I loved the vet assistant who came out to the car and took the medical history. She was a great listener, professional and had good sense of humor. The techs are a unique bunch —some are classic Portland tattooed and pierced with rainbow hair others look like straight up LPN’s but all are calm, friendly and know their stuff. I love the way they hand decorate the bags with d/c meds and instructions. Everyone at Heart and Soul is a real person and I love that they know and like my little Tuxie cat Lucky. On a Saturday evening, my sweet little aging pup had blood in his stool. I called his regular vet, but they were closed. I found Heart and Soul Urgent Clinic who offered weekend care, open 7am Sundays. After some research with varying advice and wide spectrum of potential possibilities - because my pup's behavior and energy level seemed quite normal - I decided to hold the run to an animal ER hospital and try getting him in first thing in the morning. I called 7am, he was seen right away, and follow-up call from Doctor was quite fast. After many good questions, the Doctor was able to rule out some possibilities - diagnosing him with Colitis. He's mid-way through his round of probiotics/meds, and making healthy poos again. I'm grateful for the quick, efficient care from this clinic in an urgent and scary situation. Fabulous place! I was able to get my kitty in quickly. The doctor had already done her exam & called before I even got home! Urgent care/emergency services are not cheap. Great experience here. Got my cat in with minimal wait time. Their COVID precautions were smooth and well thought out. They looked at my cat, gave me options, prices up front and discussed potential risks so we could make an educated decision. Took my dog in because of vomiting, not pooping and eating. The staff and vet at the client were great! Nice and professional. You need to make an appointment and pay $98 (basic examine cost) over the phone to save your appointment. I was told the dog would be with them for at least two hours but I could go away and come back. Highly recommend this clinic if you can't get into your regular vet.

I am overwhelmingly happy with my experience at Heart and Soul Animal Urgent Care! My senior pup was having some serious GI issues and I just didn’t know if it was a bug or something more serious. We had gone to a different emergency vet but since she was stable we waited 9 hours and never got seen. Super stressful for both of us! Heart and Soul staff were communicative and compassionate every step of the way. The vet called me herself to talk through treatment options. When my lady had an accident they even gave her a bath! I expressed that I had severe anxiety leaving my senior with them (they were super busy, with a packed parking lot of patients waiting) and yet they were all so kind and warm and explained everything in great detail. While totally easing my anxiety and building trust and reassurance! Hats off to you! The Vet even called me to discuss what was done at the appointment. And I was so thankful they took the time to talk with me to explain the appointment details, especially since they were suuuuper busy! I can't say enough good things. This industry is incredibly overburdened, but Heart and Soul really helped and did not sacrifice anything in the process. I suspected my dog had a UTI on a Saturday, so I called her normal vet who is no longer open on Sundays. I called an emergency vet closer to my home and I got a recording specifically saying that they were too busy to answer the phone. I called about 10 other vets who either didn't answer or said that they were not booking out for several weeks or months. Heart and Soul was able to get my dog in early the next day. The extremely kind person on the phone helped me calm down and assured me that a dog UTI is well within their urgent care specialty. Heart and Soul provided clear instructions for bringing in my dog. The Doctor called me multiple times to update me and talk through treatment options and pricing. The Doctor was also extremely friendly and I felt very confident in her skills and recommendations. This place is not inexpensive, but for the service they provide their fees were appropriate and on par with what I expected (I highly recommend major medical dog insurance just for this type of situation anyway). If I ever have another issue with my dog I will definitely call again. I will recommend this place to anyone who has a significant urgent medical need for their pet.

My dog was at the end of her life, and I had made the agonizing decision to have her put to sleep when she had a massive seizure at home. My regular vet wasn't open, so I brought her to Heart and Soul. The staff were so incredibly kind and caring, and they made the process as easy as it could be. The tech who helped me with my paperwork brought me a box of tissues and even offered me a hug. When I went inside to say goodbye, there was a sign on the door asking people to keep it down as a dog was being euthanized. The vet explained what was going to happen, and the actual process went smoothly. She offered to sit with me after, or give me time by myself. A couple days later I received a condolence card signed by the staff. This was one of the worst things I've had to deal with in my adult life, and their kindness and competence made it go as smoothly as possible. In case my other dog requires urgent care, I won't hesitate to bring him to Heart and Soul.

Our cat was limping and has a very swollen paw. Heart and Soul was able to see him same day, when other clinics were going to be up to 12 weeks. Their setup is a little different as an urgent care clinic, which basically meant a little more waiting, but it was 100% worth it. This is a hard time to work in the veterinary field, yet every person I talked to was kind, professional, and caring. Our cat received quality care and is doing very well. Their staff assisted us thoroughly with a follow up question. I am grateful they were there to help.

Currently, veterinary emergency services are stretched to the limit. I called almost every facility in Portland and surrounding communities, including Vancouver, WA, and was told a minimum 10-12 hour wait for non-critical cases, or they simply said don't come here, we're at capacity. My dog was ill, and I am so glad I took him here. They were professional, kind, and gave him excellent care. Kudos to Dr. Houser who was wonderful to work with. I felt like she truly cared about me and my pet. They kept me informed throughout the process. I wish I could take my dog there for routine care. I would choose them without hesitation. I hope my dog never needs urgent/emergent care again, but if he did, I know who I would call first.

After not being able to get my dog treated at her regular vet for an open wound she came home from daycare with, we found H&S - we live in N. Portland but I hadn't realized this is what moved into the old building off of MLK and Killingsworth. I called on a Friday mid-day, they assigned us a time to come; first thing Saturday morning. There were several cars all parked and waiting along with us, it was then that I realized they triaged on the spot. So, even though we did indeed have an "appt." your place is determined based on the pets urgent need. We called as soon as the phones went live to let them know we'd arrived and we were on hold a bit...before we were instructed to fill out paperwork sitting by the front door. I would say it was probably 45 minutes total before someone came out and got my dog. They kept her and we went about our day; the vet called a couple hours later to tell me what the plan was. The most impressive part is the vet probably spent 20 minutes talking to me. I didn't feel rushed at all, she was very thorough and compassionate, informative and helpful. During the procedure, they emailed photos to me so I could see exactly what we were looking at. I felt informed the entire day. Turns out it was a simple dog bite. And lastly, the entire situation cost $350 including a lot of meds. Which is easily half of what I was expecting and would have paid at Dove Lewis for emergency care. I felt very confident my dog was in good hands and I am very relieved to know this place is close by.

It takes about a month to get my dog seen by my usual vet who is just down the street. But when my dog had an infection, I couldn't wait. I was able to get an immediate appointment at Heart and Soul. Not only did they do better work than any of my previous vets. But they had more compassion and took extra care of me and my pet the whole time. I will 100% bring my pet here again. Most importantly they did it all for a substantial amount less, which lets you know just how much its about your pet in their time of need and not getting as much money out of you as they can.

Really really impressed with this place. My cat had a hunger strike this week. After a few days I knew I needed to get him into the vet, but it would be impossible to get him into his normal vet. They recommended heart and soul, and I am SO GLAD. Heart and Soul’s process works so well. You call ahead of time (best chances I’m assuming are first thing in the morning), they have a brief therapy session with you about what’s going on with your pet and assess the urgency they need to be seen. Then they give you a time slot to drop the pet off. Once there they triage again. They were VERY CLEAR about the process and time commitment. They took my cat in 20 min then I went home and they called a few hours later with a diagnostic/treatment plan. From the person on the phone (Kelly - I know I got the spelling wrong though) telling me “I’m so sorry you’re going through this” as she talked me through everything to the detailed vet strategizing my cats diagnostics/treatment plan to make sure it didn’t break the bank (as much as an animal urgent care experience can). It was all so impressive. Thank you, Heart and Soul. This establishment is exactly what we need in PDX when the other options around town are to spend your entire day waiting in your car in the parking lot.

My cat Luna hurt her paw. I wasn’t sure how bad it was because she wouldn’t let me touch it. She was in pain and needed some medical attention. My vet was closed on the weekend. I must have called 30 different vets in a 100 mile radius of my house. No one would see her. I finally widened my search and looked in Portland and found Heart and Soul. Kelly answered the phone and she was extremely empathetic and caring and said of course we can see Luna. I was so happy. It was over an hour drive. My appt was at 12:00pm and they had her in the door by 11:57am! Dr. Bell called me after they assessed Luna’s paw. I was very impressed with her mannerism and care for Luna. They took good care of her and made me feel at ease. I am so happy I brought her here. From the reception on the phone to the technicians who helped me and to Dr Bell, thank you all so much for taking care of our loving fur baby Luna. Our dear little dog had a very bad eye which he wouldn't open, and he wouldn't get out of bed. We called many Vets - I think 7 - and Heart and Soul fitted us in on a Friday evening. We went at 5, and while the wait was long, we were able to enjoy the highlights of Denny's and experience the early night life of the area. Quite fascinating. We spoke to Vet Alexia Bell twice, and she was very helpful. He was diagnosed with an ulcer on his eye, and she was able to explain what needed to be done, provided a medicine which should heal the ulcer, and offer us advice going forward. When he came out, he had a cone of shame on his head, and was accompanied by two veterinary assistants, who were charming and quite lovely. He also had a little bag with his medicine and instructions in it, and on it his name and an English flag! (I am English) A very sweet personal touch which was much appreciated. We went home in the late evening knowing that the dog would be recovering soon, and that we could sleep easier. I would use Heart and Soul in a heartbeat. He was seen quickly and Dr Bell phoned me, explaining their recommendations and allowing me to decide which treatment course to follow. Dr Smyly and team were amazing and compassionate. We found a stray dog that we thought had some health issues and we were referred to Heart and Soul Urgent Care, who saw her very quickly upon arrival. We were told the dog had infection in her uterus and ovaries and Dr Smyly called around and found a place that was able to do surgery same day and save the dog's life. We are now taking steps to either find the owner or have sweet Tia be part of our family.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Heart and Soul, starting from my first phone call. I called late in the evening and there were no longer slots available for my dog to be examined (she had a run in with foxtails and needed to be seen relatively soon) but rather than simply apologize and send me on my way, the gal who I spoke to went out of her way to email me a complete list of other 24hr pet emergencies in the areas and let me know some of her top recommendations. She then filled me in on good times to call back when I would likely be able to be seen. After taking her advice and calling at first open the next day, I was able to get right in. I was warmed that there might be a slight wait when I arrived to the facility but it was barely a wait at all. I was contacted multiple times throughout the day and spoke with the same doctor each time. She filled me in on everything that was taking place and was very thorough in explaining everything to me. When it was time to pick up Koko, someone walked her out to my car and then walked me through all of the medications she was leaving with in detail and made sure I felt comfortable before leaving. A few days later I received a call from my regular vet checking in on Koko to see how she was. They said they were informed by Heart and Soul that she had been seen there and they were passing on her records. All around amazing staff and service in a time when I was at a high stress point and was scared for our pet. I will be highly recommending them to all of my fellow dog owners

I love this place! We had to bring our girl, they gave us drop off time, we arrived and they took her a couple of minutes later, and told us to leave. An hour later we received a call from Dr. Smiley to tell us the diagnosis and what procedure they recommended. After that they call 2 hours later to let me know the lab results and how my girl was doing. She was really for pick up. This place really gives their Heart and Soul ❤️ I am glad we were able to take her here, she is doing great now and I cannot thank you enough for the care and love you put on my girl.

We visited Heart & Soul for the first time this week when our dog became quite ill with salmon poisoning. We were able to be seen the same day, which was a tremendous relief, and from the jump were so impressed by their professionalism, patience, thoroughness, and level of care. It was a nerve wracking few days for us, but the Heart and Soul folks made it so much easier - everyone was kind and gentle, we were able to talk thru every option and approach with the vet, and no one seemed at all annoyed with our many follow up calls and questions. :) Our dog bounced back after a few days on the treatment plan, and we are phenomenally grateful for the top notch care and attention she received at Heart and Soul. Hands down best "emergency/urgent care" veterinarian practice around! The staff were very compassionate and kind during a stressful time for Simon, our senior cat. "Beth" one of the vet tech that checked "Simon" in held him, loved on him, and kept an eye on him while in the hospital. Her attention to him eased his stress and He was returned to us quiet and completely content! Not frightened and skittish as has been after previous vet appts elsewhere. She took time to talk to me when I thought I was losing Simon and really went above and beyond!! As for Dr Hunter who took care of Simon, I only wish that she was my regular veternarian for ALL my furry "kiddos!" She took a great deal of time going over options and discussing difficult decisions such as compassionate euthanasia. Then she went as far as to do research on treatments for cat seizures and discovered an alternate treatment for Simon! Simon, who another emergency hospital didn't want to see because they heard his '18 years' and assumed "euthanasia" and told us to go to Heart and Soul, is now home and looks great, acting better than before! What a blessing in disguise it was to find Heart and Soul Urgent Pet care hospital!!! We thank you so, so very much for having a fabulous staff and doctors that truly do go above and beyond for our furry family members!!♡♡♡♡

Dr. Emily Thomas and the entire staff at Heart and Soul Animal Urgent Care were amazing. Every person we met, including Dr. Thomas and Jeff and Rachel and those whose names we did not get were all so nice. Our pets received high quality care with lots of actual care involved. Our two dogs were injured and one of them is very skittish and neither of them usually want to go inside at the vet's office. The first hint that this is a great place was that they both waltzed right in with the staff members who came to the car to get them. Dr. Thomas kept in touch with us throughout each procedure for each dog, offering complete and understandable explanations and decision-making at each step. As we were leaving with our bags labeled for each dog with their own medications and care instructions, Dr. Thomas came out to leave and stopped by to speak with us. Everyone was great! Just adopted a one and a half-year-old pop who was constantly scratching at his ears. Couldn’t get a vet appointment to establish care for 3 to 4 weeks and didn’t want him to have to go that long. Was able to get in the same day with heart and soul and was relatively quick considering the current status of getting in to see your vet! Poor guy had a double ear infection but is now on the mend thanks to them!

When our vet couldn't see our puppy for an ear infection because they were booked out for 2 weeks, it was recommended we go to Heart and Soul. They got us in the same day, and were even able to do a quick sedation and remove a foreign body in our pup's ear that would've made for a really tough 2 weeks. Brought my cat here for an urgent care appointment and couldn't be more pleased with the service we received. I showed up 15 minutes before they opened on a Wednesday and was met at my car with intake forms. After about an hour I was told he would need to be sedated in order to be given a proper examination, so I headed home. I received a call in less than 2 hours with a full report and plan moving forward. Everyone I spoke to was very professional and compassionate. This was not a cheap visit, but I expected as much for the urgent care appointment and sedation. Very happy with my experience. Thank you!

My pup ate some chocolate. Regular vet was short staffed and couldn’t get us in so we called Heart and Soul in a panic. They were great, got us in soon enough that we could get it all out of her before we had to resort to more complicated treatment. We were in and out in 2 hours. They were not only professional and expedient they were kind and caring during a really difficult time. I had to put my sweet dog down today with minimal notice, and they fit him in as fast as they could as it became evident that he was in pain and it would be even harder on him to wait until his originally scheduled appointment time. Dee the technician was so tender and patient and comforting. She also made an imprint of his paw and cut a lock of his hair for me to take home. Their costs were no more than a regular vet clinic which is so different than what you'd expect from an emergency care facility. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood.

TL/DR: I am *so* happy to have found Heart and Soul! Fantastic experience! Top notch medical care from warm and caring people at an UNBEATABLE price!! I have a 90lb 7 month old cane corso who needed an emergency vet visit and I was referred to H&S by a tech at my regular vet (shout out to Cathedral Animal Hospital). I couldn't have been more pleased or set at ease by my experience with H&S and I can tell that my pup feels good about them as well. The drop off/triage system worked smoothly and efficiently and the staff were incredibly friendly, well informed and concise without feeling rushed or rude. Our tech, Jeff, was rad and my interaction with him was very reassuring and helped me relax in the time of my pup's injury. Dr. Henwood was very pleasant and was able to clearly communicate the situation, the potential treatment options and then his recommended course of action without being pushy or making me feel wary of bad business practices. By the time we finished up I felt confident that I was informed and equipped to best handle the needed aftercare for my bub from meds to behavior monitoring. Lastly, I was absolutely stunned by the affordability of our visit. My partner and I were anticipating a bill in excess of twice what was charged. We were absolutely blown away and I don't feel that the quality of care we received was compromised by the rate we paid in any way. I am so pleased and although I hope my guy is spared of significant illness/injury in the future, Heart and Soul will absolutely be my first choice in emergency care in the future.

I found this place to be really excellent. My dog had a bite wound from another dog on Sunday evening before Labor Day. It wasn't serious enough for the crazy wait at the ER but couldn't wait til my vet was open on Tuesday. I was able to get in on Labor Day at 1pm, he had wound repair surgery with stitches and was home by 6pm that evening, less than 24 hours from the incident. Their communication was excellent and they did a really nice job with the wound care. A week later my dog pulled out his stitches and I called first thing in the morning and was able to get him in and out in a couple hours, and had him home with a few new staples to close the wound back up and a new very sturdy e-collar. He's a really good, cooperative patient, to his credit. I recommend this place and the prices aren't insane for an urgent/emergency place. Really appreciate them being able to take care of my dog so quickly.

Since there are no animal emergency vet services available in Longview, when our became ill on a weekend, I started calling emergency vet clinics in the Portland/Vancouver area. Out of the half dozen facilities I called, Heart and Soul was the only one who didn't tell me that the wait time would be at least 8hrs. My dog was seen within an hour of arrival, the Vet called me in another hour, we agreed on a treatment plan, and we were on our way home within 4hrs.

***NOTE: 5 stars for veterinary care, but only 1 star for communication.*** My dog had a mild eye infection and our regular vet could not see us for over a month. I opted to schedule with Heart and Soul. When scheduling, I let the receptionist know that I was flying out of town that night, and so my partner would pick our dog up. My partner is listed as the co-owner on the paperwork. When we dropped our dog off, I informed the technician who took him back that I was flying out of town and my partner would pick the dog up. She responded in a manner that indicated she understood this. Later, while I was at the airport, the vet called me to report on the eye. After we discussed the infection and the treatment, I informed her that I was at the airport and my partner was already in the parking lot ready to pick our dog up. She also responded in a manner that indicated she understood this, and let me know it would be a few minutes before he was ready to go. I then texted my partner to let him know he could call the front desk and let them know he was there. He called at 6:15, and the receptionist told him they weren't quite done and to give them a few minutes. Nearly two hours later he got a call because they couldn't get ahold of me (I was on a plane), and repeated to him multiple times that no one told the staff that he would be picking up - not me. This was around 8:00 PM, and my partner had been waiting in his car in the parking lot for nearly two hours. I did not receive any voicemails from the clinic, so I cannot tell if they really did try calling me. They also required him to pay for the visit, when I had left a card on file and instructed them to charge me. Overall, we are happy with the price and the care that my dog received. However, we are very displeased about the poor communication. I informed three different staff members that I would not be picking my dog up. I don't appreciate that my partner was lied to about something as small as a miscommunication. It isn't difficult to take responsibility for a simple mistake. To lie about it shows immaturity and a lack of integrity.

AMAZING! When I couldn't get a same day apt with my regular vet, they recommended Heart & Soul. I had forgotten about them since hearing how well they cared for a friend's dogs traumatic run in with a car. I called first thing and they set a time (same day, actually only two hrs later) since it wasn't a major emergency. Everything from start to finish was handled with the utmost care and concern for my dog as, well as myself :). I heard techs come and go and interact with patrons in the most warm and concerning manner. Everyone from the owner who happened to treat my dog, to all of the staff members, were incredible. Real down to earth people. Great counsel, presenting options, and excellent care for my pet. When it came time to pay the remainder of the bill, I was beyond pleased at how reasonable everything ended up. Urgent Care is never the place we want to find ourselves using, but I'm SO thrilled to have Heart & Soul in the neighborhood (and city) for any future needs <3

Our 4-year-old wire haired fox terrier, Stella, emerged from some bushes at the park with a badly bleeding paw. After we stopped the bleeding and got her cleaned up, we searched for a vet or an urgent care clinic we could take her to, as her long-time vet had just retired the day before! We were turned away by every facility we called, until we were referred to Heart and Soul, a walk-in urgent care facility in our own backyard. There we found a team of caring, attentive, informative people at the ready to calm our nerves and get Stella into the queue. Like all vet clinics currently, Heart and Soul was extremely busy, but had a system in place to take care of everyone who needed their help. Heart and Soul triaged our pup and brought her inside the clinic. After examination it was determined that she would need surgery to stitch up a deep wound. We left her there for the day and picked her up that evening with an array of medicine and thorough instructions for her care. We were so surprised that all of this came at a very reasonable price. We would like to thank Alexa who initially came to our aid, for her kindness and empathy, and comforting message that Stella was in good hands. And Dr. Emily Shoenrock for her confidence, knowledge, excellent surgical skills and reassuring bedside manner. We can’t say enough about Heart and Soul Animal Urgent Care. I had been in a car wreck with my dog seat belted in. She got the wind knocked out of her. It appeared , and I was worried about internal injuries. It was a pretty violent wreck. The seat belt save her life. As she only weighs 10 pounds. We called 2 emergency vets , and they were full up. We ended up calling Heart and Soul, and thankfully, after explaining the situation, they told us to bring her in. They check her all out. Ultra sound, xrays. The. The service of Heart and Soul was desperately needed due to no availability of our 2 regular and emergency vet clinics. Our tough guy cat had a recurrence of an abscess in his cheek and it needed to be lanced and drained. His wound care seems to be just fine, and it is healing well. However I give H & S minus 2 stars (and am inclined to give minus 3) because our cat is so deeply traumatized after this procedure. He’s had to have a few of these this year, and he comes back woozy, but he is still himself. This time I fear he was allowed to see things happen to other cats or wasn’t fully under anesthesia during his procedure. All speculation I realize, because I don’t know what happened. Upon return our buddy had full terror in his eyes and was inconsolable for days after just screaming at us and hiding in the corner of the closet. Even now, 9 days later, he isn’t quite right and mistrusts us and flinches when we pet him. We have to rock him like a baby and his angry meows calm down after a couple of minutes. He’ll have to get used to being indoors while we’re making plans for a catio to be built to keep him safe from now on. I will not willingly take him back there if I can help it.

I feel so grateful to have found this vet. My dog Charlie and I just made it through one of the scariest weekends of our lives together and I have Heart and Soul to thank. She developed bad diarrhea and vomiting for over 24 hours this weekend which ended in her vomiting up blood. I rushed her to a local emergency vet in the middle of the night, where she was held for 20 hours in a cage with zero care and zero access to a vet - wait times were so bad they told me it could be days until she saw a vet and could be checked out. I finally could not take it anymore and checked her out myself, and called around every place I could until I found this vet that is conveniently located 3 minutes from my house. A staff member compassionately listened to my concerns and quickly scheduled me a same-day urgent care appointment. I arrived a few hours later and in less than 20 minutes, nurse Jacqueline came out and got a thorough picture of Charlie and her health concerns, and was patient and kind when Charlie was scared to head inside. In just over an hour from this point, Dr. Henwood called to discuss Charlie’s case further, asked thoughtful questions, and made me feel comfortable and trusting that they would help Charlie feel better. In a total of 3 hours, they evaluated Charlie fully, did bloodwork and got results, did a stool test, gave an anti-nausea shot, and set Charlie up with medications and a home care plan. At the previous emergency vet I could barely get an update to find out if my dog was okay and they had no estimate of how long it would be to even see the vet - at Heart and Soul, I got to speak to Dr. Henwood twice in 3 hours and left with my dog feeling better and on the mend. I truly cannot say thank you enough! Highly, highly recommend.

Dee, the technician who worked with us, was even awesome in dealing with a financial mishap that happened on the back end of the clinic. I really wish Heart and Soul did preventive care. We have a regular vet and they are fine for *scheduled* annual physicals, vaccines, heartgard and nexgard medications, teeth cleanings. They are fine for anything that can be *scheduled weeks in advance*... It seems that the days where one can get into their established vet with a same day appointment are long, long long gone… ...and so thank goodness for Heart and Soul Urgent Pet Care clinic. We have used them twice. On one occasion, our dog spit-up at his day training and there was fear of kennel cough - we had to remove him and get him cleared within 24 hours - our vet couldn’t see him for 1-2 weeks! (which is sadly normal around here now) - but Heart and Soul were able to see him the same day. More recently, our dog had diarrhea which did not improve over a week - we were able to call on a Sunday and schedule a 9AM Monday appointment. With these scheduled appointments (vs. the walk ins) you can get seen more quickly at a defined time- they were able to evaluate and treat our pup within an hour, start medications and probiotics and dietary recommendations, and send out for lab work. The staff and clinicians have been consistently caring and outstanding. We give Heart and Soul Urgent Pet Care clinic our highest recommendation.

I brought my service dog Bailey back here after being previous patients at Metro. I had a suspicion she had a UTI and ended up being right. They treated her with love and patience, and stressed that they were going to be extra thorough with their standard of care just like they would be with a human. Dr. Flecker was able to see my cat quickly when my regular vet was booked solid. He and the whole staff are very friendly professional and attentive especially during this weird corona virus time. Although he wasn't able to fully treat my cat he performed a procedure that kept him comfortable for a few weeks and gave me a great recommendation to a wonderful specialist (shout-out to Skin Vet Clinic!) who was able to more thoroughly treat the issue. I brought my 10-month old Kitty Girl to Heart and Soul to treat an abscess. They were super nice on the phone, when I arrived their intake protocol was clear, they got her in ASAP—I came in at 11am on a Sunday and it took less than an hour for her to get in. I went home and a couple hours later Dr. Henwood called to explain what treatment was needed and the associated costs. So, naturally, every little thing that goes wrong I immediately panic and assume it's some underlying death sentence. They managed to squeeze me in during a busy time, diagnosed him quickly, did not upsell on any unnecessary treatments, and simply solved our problem. Also, emergency visits are never cheap but the prices were completely reasonable, especially considering the service.

I first brought my 8 year old Dachshund here earlier in the year when he sprained his tail and we were given a couple different options for treatment and felt like we were well taken care of. Recently my little beloved got into a scuffle with a larger dog that resulted in a pretty gnarly bite wound on his neck that was becoming infected regardless of what I did to keep it clean. We were able to make a same day appointment for Striker to be seen which in the time of Covid is basically impossible for any vet office it seems. They took such great care of Striker, the staff made me feel at ease about the procedure to clean him up. a couple days later he somehow got a drain out and we were able to get him back in same day to have it evaluated. Each time we brought him in, Dr. Flecker gave us all the information to determine what the best route was for Striker. I never felt any pressure to make decisions and always felt like I was given the best and honest info and choices. I will certainly bring Striker back if need be.

Really great experience - probably saved Chloe's life. I took Chloe (my elderly pomeranian) in suspecting she had a UTI. Not only was it NOT a UTI, but her previous owners apparently lied to me about her being spayed! Dr. Henwood did an ultrasound when they went to tap her bladder and discovered that her uterus was not only still there, but absolutely filled with fluid and cysts (pyometra)!!! He then asked to do an Xray to confirm, which we did, and he strongly recommended that we take her to a full-service veterinary hospital within 24 hours to have emergency surgery. He even let us know which place would be more affordable, as it is potentially a very expensive procedure, and costs are a concern for us. Chloe is in surgery today and I am so grateful to them for finding this before it was too late - she wasn't acting sick (still eating, energetic, etc...) and I'm so glad Dr. Henwood caught it 🙏 The whole team was very sweet and welcoming and they even set us up to wait in an exam room because we don't have a car to wait in (and it was snowmageddon outside!).

Metro vet is the only place I would consider taking my pets for vet care. Dr. Flecker is very experienced and is so gentle with my dog. I completely trust him and know he has my pet’s best interest at heart. On Friday May 14, 2021, I called around to all the emergency vets in the area starting at 2am to get my dog seen. Everyone said it was a 4-6 hour wait, or they were closed because of COVID. Finally, I went to Heart and Soul UC at 8:58am. I was third in line and they had my dog in the door and being treated in 20 minutes. COVID is making everything harder right now. Regular vets can't see your pet and emergency vets are backed up because of it. Thankfully, Heart and Soul gave me some reprieve and my dog is feeling 100x better.

My cat had a bite on his face that I realized was infected late in the day on a Friday. My regular vet was booked, so I called MetroVET hoping to avoid a night in the ER. They told me to come on over. By the time I got there they had already gotten my pets records from the regular vet and we were brought back within 5 minutes. Our pup needed to be seen over a weekend (and our regular vet was unavailable) so we happened to stumble across Dr. Flecker and his urgent care practice (MetroVet Portland) while searching the Internet. Although it’s always nerve-racking to see a new caregiver, Dr. Flecker and his team were amazing. They put us at ease from the first interaction, and I’m happy to report our boy is doing great four days later and back to his normal mischief. Reading some of the negative reviews here, I have to offer our experience in his defense. Did it cost a lot? Sure, it’s urgent care, so you have to do what you have to do. But his billing was fair and the procedure even came in a couple of hundred less than the estimate, which tells you something (if you’ve ever had to take your pet or a child, for that matter, in for an emergency procedure, you know that you’d pay anything to be sure they are OK and certainly wouldn’t bat an eye if the estimate was not adjusted, so that speaks to his honesty, IMO.) Did we encounter any of the rudeness mentioned in other reviews? We spoke to and/or encountered about four of Dr. Flecker’s staff and they were all friendly and efficient, so can’t say we did. Not saying they people can’t have bad days, but we didn’t witness any of that in our experience. At the end of the day, Dr. Flecker is the one that you are putting your pet’s well-being in the hands of, and if you meet with him one time, we think you’ll be a fan too!

The MetroVet team is very accommodating to get your pet in when you need them! Although, I found after multiple visits what is lacking there is proper communication. Dr. Flecker promised me he would call to check on our dog the next day and he didn't. 3 days have gone by and no call. I called and asked to speak with him and was told he would call me back- he still has not called. I also requested the radiographs and ultrasound results to be e-mailed to us and had to call again and STILL have not received the records! I trust that the whole team cares for the pets they see! For me, Its simple If you say you'll send results over by next day, do it. If you say you'll call next day, do it. Customer service needs improvement.

Every time I bring my problem child pit bull to heart and soul I am stunned at how well they work with him. He is aggressive with strangers so I don’t understand what kind of voodoo witchcraft they got going on here but the techs and doctors have been able to get him to behave long enough for him to get his much needed treatment. His UTI is all cleared up and he’s back to his happy/grumpy, old man self. I don’t know what I would have done without their same day service. The 24 hour clinics told be I could be waiting up to 10hours to even be triaged and the primary care vets couldn’t get me an appointment for 1 month.
