I love Kirkwood Animal Hospital! My boy Sylvester is still here because of their love and care. They nurtured him back to health after a car accident, diagnosed and helped contain heartworm, and did x-rays to figure out all the interesting things he likes to gobble up. Sylvester keeps us busy for sure, but Kirkwood Animal Hospital has been more than capable of handling my crazy little guy! Thank you team!!

KAH has been taking care of my dog Milo, the first dog I’ve ever owned in my adult life, for the last 10 years. They have all been amazing in providing for his care from the routine exams to the sudden emergencies or worries that have come up. Sarah Kolaz has been especially wonderful to us over the years. Kirkwood Animal Hospital is the best in St. Louis. We had come from a terrible experience at a local well known animal hospital. We were referred to Dr. Hellmuth, we had an elderly dog that was on every medication we could put her on and she helped us walk through a very tough but correct decision. She was with us the entire time hugging us and allowing us time with our beloved Daisy. Since then we have had them for our sweet Lucy and they have been amazing! Highly recommend!

There was a mixup with an emergency hospital that didn't have any availability who told us to go to Kirkwood Animal Hospital instead of the emergency clinic in Crestwood. We showed up and after realizing what the mixup was, they very kindly saw and treated our minor kitten emergency. They're a bit far for us to use as our normal vet, but I was absolutely impressed with their kindness and would use them as our regular vet if we were nearby.

I'm really not sure how Kirkwood Animal Hospital (Kirkwood, MO) could have made my experience any better. The assistant who answered my phone call (re: my dog) was quick and courteous. She got me an appointment to see Dr. Willams that same day. I brought my dog in and the doctor did an examination with some simple tests in office. Within minutes he had a diagnosis and prescribed some medicine. A couple days later, my dog is well on his way to complete recovery! I want the very best for my best companions, Pippin and Ralphie, and I highly recommend this veterinary facility to my friends.

Simply the greatest veterinarian clinic I've ever had the luck to visit. My pets have been going there regularly for years. Recently, I moved across town and started going to Willowbrook vet clinic because it was closer to my new home, but Willowbrook didn't compare to Kirkwood Animal Hospital. So now I make the drive because it's totally worth it. They care so, so much. They're fabulously knowledgeable and gifted medical professionals. They always fit my pets in at short notice whenever they're sick or in pain. Each member of the staff and each doctor is the best you will find ANYWHERE. I'm so grateful that we have such a fantastic clinic here in the St. Louis area. Even if I lived 50+ miles away, I'd still make the drive to Kirkwood because they're THAT great!

Kirkwood Animal Hospital saved our sweet cat when he ate something he shouldn’t have and it became blocked in his intestines. The staff member answering the phone was attentive and caring. Dr. Hormuth was kind and caring, and explained everything to us. She came up the next day to let us bring Oliver home to recuperate. I cannot recommend KAH and Dr. Hormuth enough.

They were great! They tolerated me having to carry my dog in we don't go for walks I have a yard that's big enough for my dogs to get plenty of exercise and I only have family over so she's wary of strangers.I don't have a lot of money so they worked the treatments to be within my budget. I will be bringing my two other dogs there as well. My dogs aren't just pets they are my children with paws. Finding Dr.s that the dogs are comfortable with as well as I am is very important. Trouble and I had a very good visit and we will be back.

I've been taking my cat to Kirkwood Animal Hospital for a little over a year, and I have to say, this is one of the best vets I have ever been to. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, everyone is exceptionally friendly, helpful and professional. They take their time with each patient, ask lots of questions and thoroughly examine every concern. Your pet is in great hands, regardless of which vet you see! They are a little pricey, but I still highly recommend them. You absolutely get what you pay for here.

I adopted a 12 year old greyhound whose previous owners had used KAH. In the interest of continuity, I continued taking her there. She needed a dental on a somewhat emergency basis, and they were fantastic. Everyone I encountered was super nice, very caring, and the care we received was top notch. Putting an elderly grey under general anesthesia is risky, and Dr Hemler knew that, so she worked hard to ensure the best possible outcome. She also needed to repair an area if skin in her face where the infection had burst through - Her sutures were plastic surgeon quality. I had to look hard to find the scar later. Sadly, Prancer died at 14, just 2 days before her scheduled geriatric exam with Dr. H - unfortunately it was in the middle of the night so we had to go elsewhere for euthanasia. However, I received the nicest note of sympathy from Dr H in the mail. My youngest grey is now a patient there, also receiving very good care. She recently needed stitches, and again, Dr H did phenomenal stitching. She takes pride in her work and it shows. My previous vet could rarely fit in an urgent visit. KAH does, and makes it seem like it isn't an imposition at all, when I know there must be times they're wondering how they'll make it all happen. The office is calm, efficient, and well cared for, which I think is a reflection of their care of our pets. 2022 update: had a somewhat urgent visit tonight for what I thought was going to be a "bad news" appointment. After a thorough exam and X-rays, which the vet carefully walked through with me, the diagnosis was just worsening arthritis. This is my spooky, terrified-of-the-world greyhound, and they were all so gentle with her. She apparently chilled out completely for her X-rays, which enabled them to get very good views. And she looks pretty darn good for 11.5, I'm told. The fact that they could fit her in the same day was tremendous. I never feel like the visits are rushed, I'm offered options for treatment whenever it makes sense, and I leave feeling confident in my choice to bring the dogs there.

I’ve been taking my pets here for many years and have always had good experiences. I used to bring my dog, who had terrible anxiety about going to the vet, but as soon as we switched to KAH, it was clear that they were different. He no longer needed to be medicated prior to appointments or be forced to wear a muzzle and he became far less stressed about his visits. We were treated so compassionately when it was time for him to cross the rainbow bridge. I currently take my three cats here too. I have also referred my friends and family, who have also been happy with their experiences.

Nice staff and friendly vet. A bit higher priced than what I’m used to but they seem to care about each animal that walks in. My dog is scared of strangers but with a little food and patience, she was examed easily and calmly!

I have had several dogs and all of them have been cared for my the wonderful vets at Kirkwood. From the excitement of a puppy's first checkup, to the compassionate care at the end of life, the team at Kirkwood are professional and kind. When we discovered that my golden retreiver, Beau, had eaten 3 socks, they did not shame me - and helped Beau recover without having to break the bank. They really are wonderful people. Highly recommend!

Kirkwood Animal Hospital is hands down one of the best in the business. They are professional, responsive, and compassionate. From the moment we stepped in an exam room, we knew this was the place for us. Their love of animals shines through with front desk staff, the vet techs, and the veterinarians themselves. For example, the exam tables can be lowered to floor level to allow for nervous or older animals to step right on the table from the floor and more often than not, the veterinarians have sat on the floor with them to do their exams. The staff also uses treats and positive reinforcement to ensure that our pets always have a positive experience. Further, one of our dogs has been chewing on his paws and Dr. Williams has been working patiently to try and find solutions to make Max more comfortable. Impressively, Dr. Williams has been available to consult with us over the phone every time we’ve had a question or concern. For these and many other reasons, I highly recommend Kirkwood Animal Hospital for all of your pets needs. They are the best.

All six of my cats I have owned have been attended to by KAH, and they helped me to peacefully put down 3 of them in their last days. I was traveling through the area two years ago on an extended RV trip and needed to have my cat's thyroid checked to see how she was responding to her medication. On the recommendation of a relative, I called Kirkwood Animal Hospital, promptly received an appointment, and was thoroughly satisfied with the care we received from Dr. Hemler and the rest of the staff. They knew we were there for a one-time visit, but could not have treated us better. I have a very picky older beagle mix. Other vets really don't like dealing with her because she can get stubborn. From the first time I brought her into Kirkwood Animal Hospital things were different. She walked in without a fight, walked on the table to be weighed and let the vets pet her. I went to Kirkwood Animal Hospital years ago with our first pets. I loved everyone there and felt my pets had great care. The cost was a bit high for me and I was a struggling single mom. I went to Webster Groves Animal Hospital simply because of the prices. I did not feel listened to there or that my pets were valued. We lost a pet while there and have had several bad experiences. I trust this team. They are caring and flexible. I have been in recently with my 3-year old pup and man do they treat her like an angel. The entire staff is friendly and will keep us coming back, possibly even with our cat if I can muster the courage and have time to buy some spare band-aids. They do not allow pet owners to weigh themselves on the scales FYI! They also remember your name and your pet's name, and that is just unbeatable. Six total stars, please!

My cat has been a patient of Kirkwood animal hospital for a few years and I couldn’t be happier with his treatment. The front desk staff is always very attentive and helpful. It’s one of the few establishments I actually enjoy calling. And the veterinarians are knowledgeable and experienced. They have a good balance of care for animals and quality of life. My first choice is Dr. Henler because of her listening skills and sound judgment when it comes to care. But all the vets are professional. I greatly appreciate the precautions they’ve made for prevention of spreading COVID-19. Top notch establishment.

Kirkwood Animal Hospital is quickly becoming my go-to vet. They have been there twice for my pup to help him through some urgent medical issues. They have been so great that I most recently took my pup in to Kirkwood for his annual wellness exam. Dr. Liberman is fantastic! Kirkwood animal hospital has been our vet for 14 years and has provided quality care to all of our dogs. They have cared for our very elderly pets with kindness and compassion, and all of our dogs (we've had five since we've gone to Kirkwood Animal Hospital) have received excellent care. Even when it was time for our dogs to go to puppy heaven, they were so compassionate and caring - we'd never go anywhere else. Recently one of our dogs was showing signs of heat stroke and they told us to take her to the emergency veterinary hospital IMMEDIATELY. We did, and she recovered, but Kirkwood Animal Hospital even called us after hours to check and see how she was doing. I highly recommend them!

Kirkwood Animal Hospital is phenomenal. My corgi and I had a very scary encounter with a pitbull attacking us and ripping into my dog's neck. They took incredible care of him and were so full of love for my dog that even after the surgery and some uncomfortable procedures he still happily trots inside to see everyone. It is obvious that everyone there truly loves animals and puts their heart into what they do.

I have been taking my two cats to Kirkwood Animal Hospital for a number of years. It is rather far from my house and there are several veterinarians much closer to me, but I would not go elsewhere. The doctors and staff love animals, are so kind to their furry patients and to the pet owners. They do what needs to be done and they do it at a reasonable cost. They do not try to suggest unnecessary procedures as I believe many vets do. That said, they are frank about what is important to do and they take very good care of your little guys and gals.

I was referred to Dr. Hormuth after my cat had a botched spay at another clinic 15 years ago. She was amazing and we have been with her ever since. She always presents all of the options for treatment, not just the most expensive one. I can tell she really cares about my pets and they adore her. When she's not available we are able to see one of the other vets who have all been great as well. I also LOVE the Vet Techs! They are friendly, caring and super helpful when you call. Their hours make it super convenient to get care for your pet. My animals are my kids and I HIGHLY recommend Kirkwood Animal Hospital.

I absolutely love everyone at KAH. We found Dr. Hormuth in 1999 when she saved my dogs life with emergency surgery on a Sunday evening. We left our old vet and have never looked back. They are the best. Unfortunately there are some vets in the area that view your pet as a way to just create revenue and run unnecessary tests because they know you love your animal and would do anything to assure their health and wellness. Everyone at KAH cares deeply for all of their patients and are able to explain care options and create solutions that work for everyone. This was my first visit to Kirkwood Animal Hospital. When I made my appointment, the person answering the phone was very helpful and took the time I needed to answer all of my questions. My dog and I saw Dr. Williams, and he was on the floor with her for the entire visit. He was patient, informative, answered all of my questions, and was very gentle with my dog. He seemed to enjoy meeting Gracie, was very present and didn't seem to be in a rush to get to his next appointment. They have a great system in place for everyone's safety, and the fee for our visit and one lab test was reasonable as well, which I also appreciated. I highly recommend Dr. Williams and the KHS.

They are some of the nicest staff I've ever met who go above and beyond for your animals. A couple years ago, I'd never been there before and my guinea pig was injured and needed to be seen asap. They squeezed me in within the hour (sadly my guinea pig had to be put down) but I was surprised when they didn't even charge me for anything and then mailed me a card with his footprint on it a couple of days later. We give an unqualified recommendation to the Kirkwood Animal Hospital for anyone seeking excellent care for their pet. Our 13-year-old golden, Jack, became a patient there in May 2020--during the initial shut down in St Louis for COVID-19 and also when he was experiencing more complicated medical issues due to his advanced age. Our previous veterinarian left his practice and it taken over by a national company. We were very dissatisfied with the quality of care we received and decided we needed to make a switch. Kirkwood Animal Hospital far surpassed our expectations. Beginning with the receptionists and extending to everyone we interacted with, the staff and veterinarians at Kirkwood exhibited sensitive, caring personalities paired with an extremely high level of clinical skill. They adhered to appropriate COVID restrictions-initially he went by himself and they called us in the car and later one person could accompany him on the visit. His medical issues and how we should care for him were always clearly explained. He was treated by both Dr Yarnall and Dr Hemler. Dr Hemler was the veterinarian we dealt with primarily. She several times returned our phone calls to discuss issues as Jack’s condition worsened. On the day he died, she helped us clearly understand his conditions and the options we had to humanely help him at his death. We had a late-night appointment with Dr. Seth Williams who provided sensitive care and explained what to expect as Jack died. He definitely understood and empathized with the strong bond humans have with their pets. Three family members were able to be with Jack and everything was set up to make it a peaceful, loving experience. Thank you, Kirkwood Animal Hospital, for all you did for our family.

We recently brought our precious beagle mix to KAH to be treated for acute pancreatitis. This was on short notice but that did not affect the thoroughness and effectiveness of the care he received. After almost 30 years and 4 dogs we have many experiences with KAH. We wouldn't consider taking our dogs anywhere else! While most of our visits were of the routine checkup variety, we've also experienced a new puppy with distemper, a dog having anaphylaxis after a rabies injection, and the issues many older dogs face. At every visit we felt like each person we interacted with truly cared for and enjoyed our dogs. We saw Dr. Schuessler most frequently, but never hesitated to see an associate if necessary. We were never disappointed. It is exciting to Dr. Schussler's daughter join the practice. Our experiences with her also met our high expectations. While KHA has state of the art equipment they also know how to access other services as needed and will assist in that. We appreciated that we were always told all the possible options for treatment. When dealing with senior dogs, our wishes to keep them happy and avoid treatments that might prolong their lives but possibly decrease the quality of their lives was honored. We recently made the difficult decision that our 2 littermate seniors were both at the point where they were very uncomfortable and it was time to let them go. The entire staff worked to help us through the process. Their skill, care, and compassion earn 5 stars plus.

Very kind and helpful people. Gave my dog stitches when she cut her leg on our fence and removed them for free when she was healed. They checked in on her during the week she had stitches to make sure she was doing fine. Just overall very very nice and truly caring.

Kirkwood Animal Hospital has been a refreshing change. I feel they have a family type of atmosphere. Everyone working there is extremely friendly. We moved from Webster to Des Peres and I was looking for a new vet closer to home. Checked online and KAH had great reviews and i gave them a shot. I have had to make numerous emergency visits with a puppy who likes to eat just about anything. KAH always gets me in right away and their prices are reasonable. On one occasion, said puppy was eating mulch and something was noticeably wrong and he was very agitated. I couldnt find anything wrong with his mouth and took him up to KAH. He had a piece of wood lodged in between his teeth and in his gum. They removed it and did not charge me for the visit! Granted I was there maybe 15 minutes, but this is something i had never experienced at any other vet. I have recommended KAH to my parents and friends and they have all been very happy with their experience.

During an extended visit to St. Louis, it was time to spay and neuter my two English Springer Spaniel puppies. Initially I was apprehensive since I had hoped their regular vet would do the procedures and I did not know any vets in the St. Louis area. After doing some research, I decided to stop by the KAH to check it out. The ladies at the front desk were so friendly and helpful and got me in immediately to see Dr. Whiting. During the consultation, I became confident that she was the one I wanted to do the procedures. She and her staff were so good and kind with the puppies; the puppies liked them immediately. Dr. Whiting explained the procedures thoroughly to me and patiently answered all my questions. It proved to be a good decision as the puppies came through the procedures without any complications and the aftercare has been tremendous. EVERYONE we have met at KAH has been wonderful.

The staff here are so friendly! The first week we had our puppy we noticed he was having accidents in the house even after we took him out. We called Kirkwood Animal Hospital at 7:30pm - a half hour before they were going to close. Luckily we live only 4 minutes away. They told us to just bring him in and they would make time for him. It turned out he had a bladder infection. Because of my schedule, I wasn't able to just stick to one doctor. I've seen 3 of the veterinarians and all have been wonderful! And I have referred friends to them who have remarked to me about the professionalism of the entire staff. I'm a client for over 2 years now and have never had a single interaction that wasn't friendly, professional and timely. My dog is a medical trainwreck and every vet in the practice is knowledgeable about his conditions so there is never any lag time in his care when his primary vet isn't available. We take our dog to KAH regularly. After discovering a lump in her throat in November she was immediately diagnosed by Dr. Moore with lymphoma. We were given a referral to a specialist and treatment started in two days. For the next 6 months the vets at Kirkwood Animal Hospital were always available, did her labs so we did not have to drive the extra distance, answered all our questions, worked with the specialist and were always very professional. We have had the pleasure to meet them all at one time or another. They are amazing people and very loving toward Smokie. She is currently in remission after receiving a grim prognosis of only 3-4 weeks without treatment. Update: Our sweet Smokie passed away with Dr. Schuessler's help on October 25, 2015. This was a week short of 2 years after her diagnosis. She lived a good quality of life because KAH and her cancer specialist took such wonderful care of her (and us). Not knowing which door to enter through (dog or cat), when I picked one (cat) I was warmly greeted by the staff and quickly guided to a examination room. No one blinked an eye at our mix of friends and quickly examined each one with little to no problems. I received a discount for having three animals all seen at the same time, it was challenging, but I'm not only a animal mama, I also have a little 14 month old baby. Example: Sam, my GSD has anxiety/separation issues we are working on. Dr. Jim and now Dr. Whiting come in with treats and sit in the floor to talk to Sam and me. They sprayed a long line of canned cheese (his favorite) on the scale and let him approach. Exam was easy and shots were no problem as he ate more cheese. I can't say enough good about KAH and especially Dr. Sarah Hormuth. They cared for our SCWT Miss Charlie until we had to let her go at the age of 14. The staff; especially Dr. Hormuth, couldn't have been more compassionate and caring. Our current canine family member is also a SCWT; our 5-1/2 Year old Finnegan. Dr. Hormuth has been such a good caregiver and has helped with both physical as well as behavioral issues; this dog was full of "attitude" when we first got him. She has taken such good care of our Finnegan and often has suggestions for less expensive; common sense approaches to many of our problems. As an example, when Finnegan took a "dive" from the dining room table (during his early crazy puppy-hood) and injured his shoulder her suggestion was an anti-inflammatory for a few days before opting for an expensive x-ray. KAH and Dr. Hormuth are also keenly aware of what's going on in the area. When there were outbreaks of Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza, they were on it as far as communicating with the families. Our dog actually contracted Kennel Cough; they accurately diagnosed him over the phone & we started on medication before it became severe. I only wish they practiced Internal Medicine for us humans! What a terrific place with great doctors and staff!

KAH and Dr. Whiting have not only been absolutely wonderful with my dog Penny (who is often very fearful about the vet's office), but they have also taken some last minute appointments for my incoming foster animals to get their nails trimmed, ears cleaned, weights checked, etc. My only complaint would be their hours for nail trims. Sometimes I get a day off during the week, and that's the only way I'm able to get Penny's nails trimmed (they are almost completely black, so I leave it to the professionals). I'm not sure how anyone who works full-time would take advantage of those services. I also wish they would offer discounts for the care of rescued animals in foster homes. But other than that they are great!
