I am so impressed with University Vet hospital. They took care of my German Shepard who was having some dental pain and got him in for his dental appointment within a week by putting us on a call back list as they are very busy and were booked so far out. They even took care of some matting we were not aware of on his feet and clipped his nails while he was under anesthesia as he doesn't like his feet messed with. They kept us updated each step of the way and I am so impressed with Dr.Walton she explained things so well about what was going on with his treatment, blood work, and biopsy, and recommendations to improve his dental health. I will always recommend Dr. Walton and the university vet hospital thank you for taking care of my sweet boy!

I recently became a first-time cat mom. After bringing my Isla home from BestFriends, she developed a rash behind her left ear that concerned me. I called several vet clinics before contacting this one in search for availability sooner than June in case the rash was a symptom of something dangerous to Isla's health. Though I'd seen online that this clinic's availability was no sooner, I gave calling them a shot. There must have been a cancellation because luckily, I was able to get my kitty in that same day to see Dr. Rachel Walton! I didn't know what to expect from a vet appointment, but I was pleasantly surprised by Dr. Walton's and the other staff's demeanor. I came with A LOT of questions to ensure I'm doing what I need to do to take the best care of my Isla and Dr. Walton was patient in answering each one of them, providing me with outside resources to investigate for further information. Overall, 10/10 experience and I'll definitely be bringing my kitty back here, as needed!

They fit us in for an emergent urgent care visit this time around and took exceptionally good care of our dog, Luna. From start to finish, they exceed expectations. Each of their staff is so kind and genuinely good with animals. I’ve taken my cat to vets that have handled the animals really roughly, but each member of this staff was gentle and calm so my cat was overall less stressed. They were able to get us seen very quickly and addressed our dental concerns in a timely manner with my cats pain level and needs being put first. We established care recently and will continue to use them for his regular vet visits after this.

Our cat was in pain, and our longtime regular vet was booked out for weeks. Mercifully, University was able to get us a same-day urgent care appointment. Everyone we interacted with was knowledgeable and professional; front office staff were observant and approachable, and the doctors and techs had great bedside manner. The team has also been proactive about checking in to see how recovery is going, and when we asked for additional pain management, they turned the Rx around in a matter of hours. Our boy is on the mend, and we are so grateful.

Our vet transferred over to University Veterinary Hospital recently, and we have been pleasantly surprised at how great they have been!! We take all 3 of our dogs here now, and the staff is so friendly, professional and knowledgeable. You can tell they genuinely care about your pet/animals. My dog is very afraid of the vet and one of my first vets at University Vet suggested that we do her exam while I was in the room. It changed the whole experience for her, for me, and for the vet techs who had to try to wrangle a very strong and scared dog. I love the vets and when I have had issues the office manager has been open and willing to accept my feedback. My only real complaint is that sometimes the receptionists/vet techs can be a little short and I have had a hard time getting them to listen when I express concerns, however, the vets are wonderful. Every vet that I have been in contact with has been helpful and understanding, suggested things that might help calm my poor scared pup and because of it, the once very stressful visits to the vet have progressively gotten better.

They always take such good care of my dog! She’s a little shy and usually needs a little extra time to get accustomed to her surroundings. They love on her and gain her trust every time! We love taking our pets here! We have seen Dr. Walton since our cats were babies. She always takes her time to explain everything. One cat is outgoing and friendly and the other is terrified, and she takes the time to make both feel comfortable in their own ways. The staff is also friendly and helpful.

Don’t go anywhere else! Don’t go to MedVet! Dr Thatcher at University clinic is the best! Junior is very comfortable with him and so do I. I am confident both my cats Junior and Stella are getting the best of care with Dr Thatcher. I know that it takes a while to get an appt with him but it’s totally worth it! I trust him with the care of my cats and super happy to have found him. Junior means the world to me so anyone who is kind to him gets my deepest gratitude! Junior is 13 years old so he is a senior cat with several problems but after seeing his Vet he is always cool and relaxed. Thank you so much!

I took my two 4 month old puppies into the office for their establishment visit, 2nd vaccines and microchips. I received excellent suggestions on food, though we had chosen wisely. They got all the shots that we agreed they needed. The new microchips now do temperature checks so no more thermometers up their backsides. I call that a win. I already take my two cats and had taken our previous dog before he needed to move across the rainbow bridge. They handled that amazingly.

I love taking my pets here. They have always been so helpful and kind. My elderly cat was sick and I called them for some information and unfortunately, she died in my arms while I was still on the phone with them. The person on the phone was so kind and handled it so gracefully. When I brought her in they helped me with cremation and a memorial piece.

Very nice facility, great staff, reasonable price and same day appointment. I brought my cat to University Vet Hospital because she was having problems breathing. Not really an emergency but needed to be addressed soon. I called my regular vet and pretty much every vet in the Salt Lake valley only to find everything booked for a couple weeks out. I tried the emergency clinics only to find 4 to 6 hr waiting times. One ER told me about University Vet Hospital so I called them. I called first thing in the morning and was given a appt for 11am same day! The staff was awesome from beginning to end. The receptionist, the tech and the doctor seemed to genuinely care and made the whole experience very comfortable for me and my cat. Unfortunately my cat ended up having a tumor behind her eye so the news was bad but the experience was great. They did charge a urgent care fee of 90 dollars which is 50 dollars less than the ERs I called and really not much more than a regular visit to my vet. Thank you University Vet Hospital for getting me in quick and for being so comforting.

I rarely take the time to write reviews unless it is so deserving. I've been taking pets to vets for a few decades and these people are the best. I'm very grateful for the service they provide. Just remember, that there is a shortage of vets these days s be patient with whomever you are able to see and wherever that may be. Veterinarians are the best of us.

We have one dog who has fear based reactivity and they have done a really good job working with her and soothing her. This has decreased my anxiety about taking her to the vet. The employees clearly deeply care about animals and not just the ones that are easy to like. I am deeply appreciative to have them caring for our dogs.

It is not fair that I put a poor review on after so many years of outstanding service and care from Dr. Bybee, Dr.Walton and the staff members like Shane , Stacey, Shelby and Elaine who have gone out of their way to be kind and part of my family. I have read all the reviews over the past weekend, I have had some of the same issues, But those are one or two people and not the whole clinic, I have been here over ten years and the outstand care out ways the few bad things, that may have been just a lack of communication or misunderstanding . The clinic is not over priced lets face it if we have fur babies they are expensive little creators. We don't blink an eye to spend $5.00 on coffee everyday that if we saved all month would pay for our fur babies care. I am just going to say in closing this review, The staff here is caring , understanding not only for the fur kids but the humans as well. It was a privilege to know the staff here and there is no better group of people to trust your little fur babies to.

This is our second visit to this clinic, from the first contact, making an appointment, the front office staff are caring, friendly and very helpful. Our vet Dr. Witzel also is caring, thorough and explains everything clearly. I don't feel like a number, but a newly introducd member of this animal community. We have never had an experience with a vet like this one. The amount of care and availability they have shown to our two beloved cats has been so important to us. We moved here and both of our cats had severe unrelated health issues at the same time— it’s so stressful and scary, but the entire staff— techs, doctors, office staff— are inCREDibly knowledgeable, kind, professional and caring. We’ve seen both Dr. Stavely and Dr. Peruffo, we’ve had ultrasounds, x-rays, thoracentesis, multiple prescriptions… the staff does everything in their power to keep things affordable and and easy and they’re so gentle and sweet with the cats. We couldn’t be happier, truly. They really do go above and beyond. Thank you, university vet!!

I came in for a life-saving emergency surgery and they did an amazing job. My pup was taken care of quickly and is fully recovered now, and they did a great job taking care of me too. Answering all my questions, talking to me as soon as they had any updates, and sending me home with thorough discharge instructions. Couldn’t have hoped for anything better during a very scary time.

I will post an update once I've seen Dr. Stavely with my kitty, Neil, but so far, my experience communicating with this office has been stellar! We just found out my poor Neil has a heart murmur before moving to SLC and wanted to get him into a vet ASAP. While other vets were very kind, we had trouble finding an appointment with a highly rated vet with short notice-- many schedule weeks in advance. I called UVH and spoke to Shane (I think!) and he went out of his way to get us an appointment with the vet within a week of my call! Not only that, but I was able to pre-schedule his echocardiogram for the following day with VetMed while MedVet had a 2 month long wait! I look forward to updating this review after Neil is seen, but so far both UVH and VetMed seem to be not only extremely organized and professional, but kind and attentive as well. I know Neil will be in good hands:)

University Veterinary Hospital and Diagnostic Center has been treating my pets for well over 10+ years. They have always been fantastic and I wish that everyone were so lucky as to have them be the vets for their pets. My dog has had two major knee surgeries with no complications and both of my cats have had wonderful checkups and dental work done here. If there is a business where they treat your pets like family it's University Veterinary Hospital and Diagnostic Center! Also, the cookies and drinks are a nice touch to help people feel more comfortable as they wait. Thank you to these guys for always being professional and outstanding in their services.

I take my dog here regularly and each time I'm greeted with professional staff, that's kind and courteous and happy to see my pup. Pricing is average for the location and Im always given a price breakdown before and work is preformed. After care instructions (and sometimes medicines) are always given and any questions I've ever had are either answered on the spot - or if I forget and call in - the doc answers over the phone. No mishaps, double billing, over booking or other poor management processes. I can't recommend this place enough for your furry friends.

Our German Shepherd has Cushings, Pannus, and host of other issues that need constant check ups. Dr. Witzel and the staff at UVH have done an excellent job in treating our pup and suggesting courses of treatment. They are always responsive, and communicate well when scheduling and following up on appointments. We have had an excellent experience since Dr. Witzel has taken over our dog's care.

Apparently I left a review already ten months ago but all it said was “love this place!” which is totally not enough!! All of the staff here is the kindest; warmest, most compassionate, and importantly, COMPETENT. They are just good people, down to their core, every time. They truly care about both you AND your pet. We have now seen three different vets here between our two dogs and I have been overwhelmingly pleased with each. If this gives you an idea of the service, my dog whined in the car the whole way here today (because she was separated from her sister!) and when we got to the parking lot IMMEDIATELY jumped out of the car with the biggest smile on her face, wagging her tail, and trotting happily. The people who answer the phone appear to have vast veterinary knowledge, so I wonder if they have techs staffing the phone? If so, excellent idea. It’s like a call a nurse line for humans, which has been so helpful in determining if appts are even needed and why/why not. Also, I don’t mean to eavesdrop, but you can often hear the employees in the back when you are in the vet examination room, and they are so GENTLE and SWEET with the animals!!! You can tell these are true animal lovers. They will bend over backward to try to fit you and your pet in. During COVID, everywhere has been slammed, which is stressful for the employees as well, but you’d never know it from their kind and positive demeanor and hard work in trying to find open spots on very short notice. They have urgent care appts available and same day inpatient so I have always been able to get in the same week, often the same day, if I am having an emergency (but not like bleeding out dying requiring hospitalization emergency lol). People have mentioned the prices but I don’t see them as any different as any other veterinarian? Inflation sucks and COL just keeps going up so we are all hurting, but pets are just expensive no matter where you go for their care. I find the prices to actually be extremely fair, and honestly, cheap considering the knowledge and service. On a more superficial note, the facility is beautiful and they offer sodas, coffee/tea, and fresh cookies. My pet gets tons of liver treats every step of the way. We love you guys!

Top notch experience and care! Highly recommend. All of the staff from the receptionist over the phone to the vet techs to our doctor were exceptional. Transferring my pets' medical history from one vet to the next is usually such a slog, but the receptionists at UVHDC were on it! They went above and beyond to make sure all medical history was entered into their electronic health record prior to our appointment. Dr. Bybee was wonderful, patient, relaxed, and made my pets' experience much less stressful. Dr. Bybee's bedside manner is impeccable and leads me to feel I can trust his recommendations. But the real highlight of the appointment was checking out; they do everything right there, in the exam room! My pets normally get so anxious at the end of the appointment and having to wait to check out at other offices has been a nightmare. At UVHDC, they bring the credit card machine to you and just do it right there in the privacy of the exam room, then you can go straight out to your car after. It's amazing how just changing the process of checkout made the experience 1000x better than any other vet we've been to.

Great care! Took my pupper in for urgent care since I didn't have an appt and it didn't break the bank. Still expensive since he needed xrays, but very reasonable. I was seen withing 10 minutes, so I lucked out. Got my doggo checked out and on our way with the medication he needed.

Best vet I’ve been to in the Salt Lake area. We were going to VCA Willow creek vet for a while, but University Vet is worlds better. I never have to worry about the techs being rough with my dogs when I go to University Vet. We’ve been going to University Vet for several years now. Every single member of their staff is delightful, helpful, and kind to work with. I don’t know how they consistently hire the best people, but they’re doing something right.

We followed Dr. Thatcher from a his previous practice. He is so knowledgeable and thorough we had to make sure we stayed with him. This is also such a nice facility with a very kind staff and calming atmosphere which is nice for a nervous pup. My dog seemed much more comfortable when walking in, and honestly not stressed when we left. All around great experience.

We had a very short, pleasant wait, followed by a very helpful technician looking over out cat and describing what we should be thinking about. The veterinarian who helped us was wonderful. Very thorough and answered all our questions. Our only complaint is that getting an appointment is difficult. We had to wait a month for our cat to be seen and it well be another month until they can take care of his mouth issues, which is unfortunate.

Always calm and professional. Lots of new condos and pets in the area, but I like the early morning call in for urgent appointments. Regular ones planned well in advance are easily put in your calendar and a reminder call with notes on key concerns makes sure you don’t set it and forget it. Large waiting area keeps nervous dogs and caged cats at a safe distance

Love this place! Took my cat in to establish care since she has a chronic condition and we're new to the area. Everyone I spoke with was wonderful - front desk, techs, and the doctor. My concerns were listened to, the staff was already familiar with my cat's history, and I feel good about the plan going forward. Loved how much care was shown my cat - she wasn't at all stressed. The fireplace and kid's area in the lobby are nice extra touches!

The team at University Veterinary Hospital always provide very kind and attentive care to my dog. They are very thorough in discussing your pet’s care and different options. I feel like they really listen to a pet owner and are not dismissive. My pup receives top quality care and treatment from Dr. Thatcher and the team at the clinic. The only negative is they don’t want to work with mail order per prescription services that are more convenient for pet owners.

This used to be our base pet hospital for many years while we lived on 9th and 9th. I would still drive to it like I keep driving my kids to their pediatrician downtown if we hadn’t moved next door to another animal hospital. Can’t beat the convince there. However, I just couldn’t get in at the current place so I called UVHC to see what they could do and they got me into an in-patient spot the next day! What a relief! And how nice was it to come “home”. The facility is gorgeous, clean, the staff is the friendliest. The service is so much better here I’m considering switching back. Who cares about a 15 min drive. University Vet Hospital is totally worth it!

We got our puppy in May 2021, and the past six months they have given our girl the best care. They’ve always been responsive, and willing to answer all my questions. Our primary vet is Dr. Garcia, and hazel absolutely loves her. I’m so glad our dog loves the vet! She basically sprints inside, as she knows she’ll get a love from the receptionists, techs and all the vets we have seen.

I took my awesome cat in for a checkup and dental cleaning, it’s easy to schedule and ask questions. They ended up having to remove two of her teeth; I appreciate Dr. Bybee and the staff kept me up to date and made sure I was set to take care of her when she got home. They taught me what to look for in terms of pain and how to manage it, how to resume eating, and made sure my cat has follow-up care. I have the best cat and I’m glad she is in excellent hands! I wouldn’t trust anyone but the best to care for my cat - the peace of mind is worth any cost. I feel like the estimate for the procedure was really close, it was nice to know what to expect.

I was nervous about my dog’s surgery when I dropped her off and they appeased me and told me that they’d make sure I got updates throughout the day and they made good on their promise! They are so patient in answering all your questions and it really is worth the price. This was our first time at the Vet with our new puppy, and Dr Garcia was great. She took the time to answer all our questions and provided information and tools we needed to keep our puppy healthy until our next visit. She was great with our little dog and we were comfortable that she really knows her stuff. It was a totally positive experience! ** Fast forward about 5 months and we're still pleased with the care that our growing pup receives at UVH! We had him in yesterday for a procedure and everyone there was great. He's doing well and they called me this morning to follow up and make sure he's doing ok. I feel like he was in very good hands in their care. I'm glad we gave them a shot and they will be caring for our little guy as he grows up!

Would have liked the stool sample to be tested for a particular protazoa that is suspected in the kitten’s sire. Shane is following up for me since we were not able to see the urgent care vet who had a family emergency. I cannot give 5 stars since we were not able to see a vet. That said I am very pleased that your facility provides an urgent care. All of the staff we have been in contact with have been professional, caring, understanding, and appropriate during all contact.

Best vet in town. Always an one stop shop. If your pet needs just a nail trim or shots to full blown life saving surgery this should be your go to. My dog Bubba used to be afraid of going to the Vet and since we have used University Veterinarian Hospital he pulls to go inside when walking to the entry doors. If there's a down side they don't have after hours care/ ER, but that's it on down sides IMO. Highly recommend this place!

I have taken 3 dogs here. They are incredibly kind, truly care about their patients, and strive to give the best possible care. We lost a puppy last year and they could not have been more compassionate or provided better information and help given the circumstances. My 8 year old rescue is so much less afraid of the vet than she was the first time I brought her in, she happily comes in for love and treats. I just moved to SLC from across the country and do not know anybody here so could not ask for vet recommendations. I think I lucked out to move in down the street from University Veterinary Hospital! I brought my 9 year old goldendoodle in last week for her annual check up and vaccinations. Tux had a negative experience with ear flushing when she was a puppy, and then a traumatic experience at another veterinary clinic a couple of years later, and so does not love her check-ups. We saw Dr. Witzel and our tech was Brooke. The entire visit was wonderful. They both treated Tuxey with care, kindness, and respect so that she felt as comfortable as she could. When Tux had to wait for 10 min between vacc pre-treatment and vacc, they brought her to me so she’d feel safe. Love that! Both Dr. Witzel and Brooke asked good questions during the exam so that I remembered all of the things that I had wanted to bring up and had forgotten to write down. Options for vaccinations, labs, and treatment (dental cleaning) were given and explained well, and Dr. Witzel was respectful of my choices. It is so nice to know that we have found our new vet and don’t have to keep looking.

I absolutely love University Vet! The biggest testament to their genuine love of animals is how much my 7 month old pup enjoys her visits. She has only known the covid protocols of curbside drop off and pickup, and I was so nervous about not being able to go in with her to make it a positive experience. University veterinary clinic has been Great to work with. We recently took our little girl (dog) in for a check up and to have a small growth checked out. Unfortunately the growth turned out to be a Mast Cell tumor. Its a scary having our little member of the family deal with a cancerous growth. I was very nervous to have my cats teeth cleaned, and the team at the University Veterinary Hospital were so kind and understanding and walked me through the process before hand, and kept me updated throughout the day. I even got a cute picture of my cat relaxing in his “cat cave” before his procedure. I appreciated the time that they took to calm my nerves and that the doctor gave me a call after the procedure was done to walk me through how it went and what his suggestions were for upkeep. I also thought it was really cute that they sent him home with his own little dentist goodie bag full of a few treats, a little bit of dry food, and a new toothbrush and toothpaste!

I've been taking my cat and dog to UVH for years and I highly value and trust the care my pets have received. Dr. Zelnik is FANTASTIC!! She diagnosed early stage kidney disease in my 13 yo cat and the treatment significantly improved my cats quality of life! I also appreciate that they give you the full range of prevention and treatment options without ever trying to upsell you. They are always so caring and it feels so good to have a vet I trust so thouroughly to take care of my furry friends. As other reviews have mentioned it is on the pricier side, but well worth it in my opinion for the quality of care. I have been to other vets over the course of my pet ownership and UVH is BY FAR the best vet I have ever taken my pets to. Honestly, my only complaint is the scheduling. There have been numerous occasions when one of my pets had an issue that was not an immediate emergency (e.g. ear infection, prescription refill after an emergency surgery, moderate loss of appetite/lethargy that I was concerned about), but likely needed care in the span of days not weeks. I have no idea how anyone ever gets the illusive "same day" appointments they supposably have, as in each of these scenarios I have called THE MINUTE they opened and have been told all appointments were already filled. In each of these scenarios, THE EARLIEST they would have been able to get me in to see any provider (even for a drop-off appointment) was a week out (and close to a month out for a normal appointment). Because of this I have had to take several trips to the emergency vet for things that were not true emergencies, but needed to be handled in the span of days not weeks. For routine care, that you can schedule months in advance I would give them a 5/5. However, especially for the prices they charge, I wish they would staff and schedule in a way that allowed for more appointment availability to accommodate these kinds of situations that inevitably occur at some point as part of pet ownership.

I called to ask for insight/suggestions on a possible UTI that my cat has and the woman who answered the phone was unbelievably kind and helpful. She took the time to share SO much information with me, and even put me on hold to go get opinions from a few of the other vets. The previous place I called immediately jumped to asking if I was a current client, which I was not, and told me that they were booked out 6-8 weeks for non current clients. She was not open to answering any of my questions. In the event I need to take my cat in, I will absolutely be going to the University Vet Hospital, solely based off the hospitality and concern I received on the phone!

We work mostly with Dr. Witzel and she’s very thorough. She always makes sure that we understand what’s going on, answers any and all questions we have with patience and kindness, she doesn’t make me feel like a paranoid cat mom which I 100% am haha. One of our cats has had some issues and she’s had to go in quite a bit over the last few months but there is not a single other place that I would trust my cats with. My husband and I cannot say enough good things about this place. All the staff members are incredibly nice, friendly, and always greet our dogs by name. They are very knowledgeable and we always have a great visit - never feel rushed as the staff always take time to make the dogs comfortable and answer any questions that we have. I came to this particular spot after a horrible experience at another vet! Theminute the doctor came to see my dog I knew I was in the right place. My dog is very anxious is vet offices and when the vet saw this she went to the ground and sat down to calm him down a little(this showed me care and compassion for my dog) we went in for various concerns and she did a through check up (especially since my dog has skin issues) which with treatment have gotten so much better. The staff here is so incredible, kind, loving and on top of things! They took such amazing care of my dog when he was brought into them as a lost dog. My dog was attacked and ran away after, and the staff here treated him so well, and let him be right by them instead of locking him in a kennel at a time he was already scared. Dr. Bybee really took his time to talk over the issues with me and inform me about pricing before running additional testing, which was all very reasonable and nothing over the top or excessive. I thought they did a pretty good job, but I feel they could have been a little more thorough on the diagnostics. I told them how we had a feline who had the same symptoms and the vet did an ultrasound on her. Turns out she was riddled with cancer throughout. She passed two months later. I hope that we don’t end up finding this is cancer. Knowing we could have probably saved her.

University Veterinary Hospital has been absolutely amazing! We've used them for about five years now, and have been impressed by the quality, the price, and the loving thoroughness of the care they provide. They've provided end-of-life care for our two senior dogs (one of which has passed, more on how well they handled that later). The vets are keen on doing whatever they can do help a senior dog feel their best--from medications to exercise and massage therapy (the scientific to the wholistic). They also spend a lot of time with the animals during the appointments making sure they've covered all their bases and answered any possible questions you may have. They've been honest about ways we could save money, which is very helpful when you're on a budget with a beloved senior dog. Whenever they've provided care for my boys, they vets have called several times after their appointments to check up on them and see how they're doing. When one of our dogs passed away, they also showed exceptional care for us people, sending us a card and flowers and checking up on us. Overall, some of the most loving, thorough vets out there.

I am so happy that we found University Veterinary Hospital!!! I have a elderly American Bull Dog, Cheeto, and he has gotten the BEST care here. Cheeto loves going there and the staff and doctors are kind and very good at explaining everything in a way that is easy for us to understand. Cheeto has needed surgery three times. I shopped around for the first surgery, and found that they had the most reasonable pricing.They made sure to check for extra tumor so that they could remove them while he was sedated so they could save us money and any future trauma to our beloved Cheeto. I am fairly new to this vet but they have been exceptional the two time I have visit. The first time was for a second opinion on a surgery which another vet told me my dog needed. After the vet at University Veterinary Hospital & Diagnostic Center assessed her (and took her to other vets in the office for a third and fourth opinion), I was reassured my dog did not need this $6K surgery. She is now fully recovered from her symptoms. The second time, was for a simple infection. In both visits, they have been prompt with calling me a week after her appointment just to check in and see how she is doing. Of the four vets I have been to in my life, none of them bothered to call and check in on my pup after her appointment. They provide excellent customer service, competitive prices and a friendly staff that treat my dog the way they would treat their own.

Dr. Shawn Bybee has been caring for our dog since she was a puppy and he and his team truly go above and beyond to support every aspect of her well-being. Their clinical care is outstanding--from guiding us through the process of managing her hip dysplasia to a chipped tooth to her spay. One Saturday afternoon, I took our water-loving dog to Barley's to swim, but I didn't have her most recent vaccines with me. The lovely staff at UVHDC answered the phone and emailed the records to us immediately, and prevented our dog's heart from being broken. Everything they do comes from a place of exceptional client service and love for animals. The clinic itself is beautiful, well-stocked with dog treats and chocolate chip cookies for non-animal patrons. I will never go anywhere else!

I only give a low review because they charged me $340 2-3 months after they said they would. I took my kitties in for normal vaccinations, possibly an exam for each, and that was the bill. Their computer system was down at the time, so they said they'd call when they were able to run my card. They did call, maybe two months ago (about a month after my visit) that they would take the money out then. I thought they did, but I guess they didn't. Yesterday I gave them a call to ask them a question about my pet's health. Nothing in that phone call was mentioned that I still owed them money. If I owe anyone, I'd love to pay them, but I also want some warning before $340 is taken from my account. It's odd they did that just because I called about an unrelated issue, and the bill wasn't mentioned at all. I'm in my mid-twenties and I only make so much.. the lack of communication is what bothers me most. I don't feel like calling to complain, would be a pointless call (hey, I know I owed you this money to begin with but can you charge me when you say you will rather than two months later without warning...) just seems like a hassle. Doubt I'll be going here again though with the lack of professionalism in their administration. However, the vets here are amazing - they are really wonderful and you can tell they are extremely professional and caring.

When my kitten ingested a plant and was potentially very sick, they got me in straight away. The staff was very nice and thorough over the phone, but when I picked him up there was a breakdown in communication and they forgot his meds to go home. I had to request an itemized receipt because they brought him out without any information on what he received (after a bill of over $400) or what to do at home. What left a bad taste in my mouth was when I called to follow up about boosters for him asking if he needed to see a doctor since he just had an exam, no one ever called me back. No one followed up to check on him either, something I am used to with other vets. I ended up taking him to the humane society for his boosters and will likely be taking my cats somewhere else in the future.

I took her to our previous vet clinic (won't mention which, but also downtown) and they told us to put her down or cough up $7500 for surgery. I got a second opinion at University Vet Hospital, and they provided the care, concern, and professional attention Boomer needed to recover in a price range I could actually afford. For this I will forever love and recommend them. Boomer healed beautifully under their care. Went there today for my dog, Star. We had an issue while traveling and they fit me in within an hour and a half. The facility is spotless (even the human bathrooms) and everyone I worked with was very knowledgeable, professional, and obviously a pet-person. We worked with Dr Shawn and he was awesome with both of us - he calmed me down over my freak out and snuggled with Star and gave her treats, all while reassuring me that the things she was going through were not life-threatening or even abnormal in young adult dogs. Tip for the DA-dog owner: Their office is laid out very well if you happen to have a dog-aggressive dog - lots of places to stay out of the way of the idiots who insist on bringing their dogs to the vet on flexis. Not only is the whole staff caring and wonderfully attentive, they have kindly allowed me to bombard them with phone calls (I'm kind of a paranoid dog parent!). Their prices are also quite reasonable and I truly recommend switching over and giving them your business.

We are current clients and will likely remain so. we’ve had good experiences with the techs and adequate experience with the dr’s. Nothing negative with docs, they mostly seem pretty new, however. Our dogs have mostly been healthy, so our needs have been limited. The facilities are nice. I can only give three stars, however, because of our frequent challenges with making appointments, long wait times, and dealing with, what feels like, an overwhelmed front desk staff. I have to come frequently for my small dog for upkeep care. We almost always have a 15-20 min wait and a few times over 30 mins. Once because no one actually ensured the techs knew we were waiting. The front staff seems over-tasked, often frustrated and disorganized. We have had multiple problems scheduling since they seem to use both on-site and off-site schedulers, and the two don’t always coordinate. Moreover, I’ve never been to a business that seems to have so many technical problems as this one - from no WiFi service to the entire computer system being down. Lastly, there’s often a woman working in the office which is visible from the waiting area, who never seems to pitch in When it’s needed. Even when it’s super busy and folks are piling up in the waiting room and there’s only one person checking in patients, I’ve never seen her come out to help. My guess is she’s the manager and busy doing her own work, but it just doesn’t look good. If this were a less convenient location, I’d consider shopping for around. It just seems that they could give a more pleasant customer experience with some investment in the administrative end of things.

I recommend this vet, to everyone and anyone. They truly care about your pets that you bring in. they care about the animals health, happiness, and wellness. They care about saving animals lives, and keeping them healthy so they live long happy lives. They care about the animals’ mental, emotional, and physical health. I have 4 two month old puppies, when one of the puppies got attacked, and they had just closed and locked their doors, even though they could have turned us away, they didn’t, they opened their doors to us, and stayed after hours when they didn’t have to, to help try and save my puppy. They cared about what i needed and what was best for JR (My two month old puppy). When i asked them to be honest with me about all the questions i had asked, they were. They were up front and honest about everything. When my puppies condition kept getting worse and worse throughout the time He was there, they tried to keep him out of pain and stable, but when he was no longer stable, and he was in too much pain to keep him alive, we decided we shouldn’t make him suffer any longer, the vet techs took JR.’s sister and played with her while the Vet, my boyfriend and I, said our good byes to JR. They were very helpful, and showed me that they weren’t just doing this for the money. That they were doing it for the love of the animals. When I went in the next day they were open to pay part of the bill, with another one of JR.’s sisters, they played with her, gave her treats and loved on her. They love animals. They care, about the animal, and you. They are truly amazing.

There were a lot of reminders with clear instructions about what we needed to do prior to our cat's surgery. After the surgery was complete, the Dr. called us and let us know everything was fine and gave us some follow-up information. All of the post-surgery instructions were explained clearly. This entire practice works as unit to provide thorough, safe and thoughtful care to pets. I brought my dog and 2 cats to the Hospital for check ups vaccines ect. They coordinated all three appointments to fit together, they are strictly observing covid protocals which is nice to see. For a remote visit I was kept in the loop on the exams and treatments via phone in the parking lot. The vet spent alot of time explaining what she was seeing and also addressing some of my concerns. Treatment plans were reasonable and measured, with no effort to tack on extra labs or treatments for no particular reason. Very pleased overall with the care and communication.

I have had such a good experience with taking my dog here. I found this place recently and decided to take my dog here for a check up. They were so friendly and Dr. Bybee was very patient and informative. He informed me that my dog was going to need a few extractions and so I set up an appointment with them. The extractions went well and they have called me multiple times to see how my dog is doing and if I have any concerns. It is typically Dr Bybee that calls me personally but occasionally a few other people have called who are just as friendly and helpful. I have felt supported by them throughout the recovery process and my dog is getting a lot better. This is a great place to take your pet and they really seem to care.

You know it's a good vet when your dog can't wait to get through the doors. The staff is always excited to see my pets and are kind and friendly. Dr. McIlvenna is incredibly knowledgeable and really takes her time with the animals. Dr. Jermain is also good. It is warm and inviting inside. Cons: in order to offer all that they offer, they need to charge an awful lot of money for services. So in my mind, they wanted to charge me $430, to spay my dachshund, when my family vet in Orem wanted to charge $230. So, to me in that instance, $230 was closer to the true cost of services rendered, whereas $430 is more closely related to all of the costs required to KEEP a nice, big clinic like that happy open and available for whenever I finally DO come in as a customer. make sense? Love the clinic, nice to have such great service so close and within my own neighborhood. For small things or standard office visits, they are GREAT FOR ME!!

We have been going to University Vet Hospital since 2009. Having 2 big dogs with lots of energy and the need to chew foreign objects caused us to make multiple visits in the past. We had the pleasure of working with 4 of the doctors over the past 6 years and probably have met all the technicians and the front desk staff. All we can say is that they are extremely professional, pleasant, efficient and they truly care for the well being of your pets. You always get a rough estimate of medical costs during your visit and you have the option to opt out of certain treatments, etc. if you wish. A reviewer left negative feedback for the UVH because they sell "Puppy Packages", etc. Yes, of course they do. As a medical practice catered to animals, they offer preventive care. None of the providers or the technicians force you to buy anything. They provide patient education and leave the decision to you. Overall, our experiences have been exemplary. Thank you!

I've brought my cat here in the past, and the vets/receptionists/vet techs are always so kind. They definitely go above and beyond to help however they can. Usually my cat is a very anxious kitty who doesn't adjust well to change in routine, and he yowls and pants if we leave the house...and I am on the spectrum, and terribly anxious whenever he gets anxious. Despite this, these guys are so good at keeping him calm and happy, that even when I couldn't go back with him this time around due to COVID (understandable!) that he was ok even without me there with him. They were also kind enough to let me use their restroom when my nervous bladder began acting up lol. By the time we got home, he was almost immediately his normal happy self, and it did a lot to assuage my own anxieties as his "mom".

I have been taking my treasured Golden Retriever to UFHDC since he was a year old, almost 10 years, and I've received exemplary care every single time. Dr. McCarron and her staff care deeply about their patients, and their pet parents, and this shows in all they do. They were able to get a skin issue diagnosed and under control in just one visit, when other vets had failed. They have the equipment, technology and skilled staff to do many test and diagnostic procedures on-site, which makes it so much easier when there is already stress of an unwell family member. The facility is beautiful and clean and the reg desk and tech employees are just as concerned about your pet's comfort and health as the vets are. They are a wonderful, comprehensive care facility that makes dealing with scary issues so much easier.

I have all the trust in the world in the vets and techs here, they are reliable, knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. The facility is clean and well kept. My only qualm is the cost. Compared to other vet practices in the valley, UVHDC is VERY expensive on services. But I guess you could argue you can't put a price on your best friend's health.

I have two kitties (Bandit and Sir) who are beginning to age, and when I found a lump on Bandit at the beginning of the summer, they got us in to see a vet quickly. Bandit loved the tech who came in before the vet - and he very seldom likes men! Their staff put both me and my dear pet at ease, and his Dr. was both informative and encouraging. A few weeks later, I found a lump on Sir and was able to also get him in quickly, checked out, and surgery scheduled for him. After both visits and the surgery I received follow up calls from their vets to see how things were going, keep me informed about test results, etc...they also helped me get set up with a care credit card to help me pay for the procedure without causing extra stress as it is interest free for 6 months after a charge. I even received a call recently informing me that Bandit may be due for a booster vaccine. I really feel like they care about my furry friends AND me, and I would definitely recommend them!

We have visited here for vaccination for our dog Mocca, a toy poodle. Their pricing is very reasonable. I also did dental cleaning and extraction. They found deceased tooth while cleaning and had to extract 4 tooth. They called me and my wife and explained in detail why and how the extraction should be done. The process was professional and well done. I moved and ended up transfer out, but I would recommend this place for anyone with vet needs.

However, Dr. McCarron walked me through the decision with factual information, presenting both benefits and costs of the extraction. Dr. Heather McIlvenna is superb. She is knowledgeable, thorough, patient, and caring. She takes care of both our dogs, one of whom is 15 y.o. When our older dog needed emergency surgery she worked with us every step of the way. She helped us with the correct diagnostics, she even came in on her day off to check the results so we could expedite our dog's care! And she did not hesitate to refer us to a clinic with a higher level of care. I completely trust her. The UVC is undoubtedly pricey, there is no denying this, but Heather is definitely worth it.

People pet insurance is a thing that exists. Can save you an arm and a leg to only pay 10% of the bill. I was cashing out because I didn't realize pet insurance exists. You can add your pets to your insurance plan! No worries if you have a 4k bill thats 400$ out of pocket. Of course you will need to pay with a credit card but this is why we should be building our credit, to protect our furry loved ones. Always willing to answer questions. I was referred here by advanved vetrinary care. YOU CAN BUY STUFF nca college student without a car this is HUGE! Saves me time to get my pets special diet shipped to me. Beyond convenient. They canceled my cats appointment it was a misunderstanding but it really messed up my schedule. I had already missed earlier appointments for having my landlord work on my home etc to make this alpointment. If you have a tight schedule chek check and recheck appointments.

Good vet. They have a policy of not overstimulating or aggrivating your pets. If the animal is too freaked out, they will give you a mild sedative and ask you to bring them back later. I suppose this might be inconvenient to some people, but I like not stressing my animals out unnecessarily.

This is the BEST vet clinic! Dogs love going here because the staff are great with animals, the pets get lots of attention and treats, and the vets are amazingly skilled. I feel that my pets receive the best care possible here. The vets are honest about what the pets need and do their best to provide that. For instance, in the past, I've taken my dogs to vets where they don't even look at their teeth and tell me I need to do a $400+ cleaning with anesthesia (which is risky at my dogs' age). Dr. Bybee carefully inspected my boys' mouths and said that he would not recommend that cleaning, saying that they had great teeth for their ages and did not need that sort of stress. He's been similarly honest, thoughtful, and informed about vaccinations, following current AAHA recommendations (which recommends rabies vaccines every 3 years for senior dogs instead of every year). His honestly has saved me a lot of money and my pups a lot of extra stress. They take care of the pet owners too. Every time I have a question, Dr. Bybee or Dr. Walton takes the time to answer them thoughtfully. I've gone for free appointments where they still consulted with me for 30 minutes, answering everything I threw at them. I currently have a pup that is very old and in the process of dying. Dr. Bybee has done a great job helping me get through the process and I even get phone calls asking how Angus is doing. My friend that had to euthanize her dog at University Vet Hospital received a hand written card with condolences the next day. This is really the most thoughtful and amazing clinic you will find!

Cannot recommend this vet center enough! My mini aussie had very sad (sad because it had to be done, and he was so miserable for a couple of weeks) but very successful double knee surgery here a couple years ago and we have gone here for everything else since then! Shots, teeth cleaning, checkups, etc. My guys are suuuper nervous with anything new, and it probably makes me nervous that they are uncomfortable, and we get into a nervous loop, but the techs and vets here really know how to calm everyone down, including me! We have mainly worked with Dr. Zelnik and now recently with Dr. Howard. They are both wonderful along all the techs who my older beast immediately falls in love with with some treats :) We are moving across the country and I am sad to find a new vet but Dr. Howard went out of his way to recommend a couple places that he has heard about in the area we are moving to.

this place used to be SO wonderful and some of the doctors, especially dr bybee, really went above and beyond in taking care of my dog. however, there has been quite a bit of turnover with both doctors and support staff so what used to be a pleasant, stressfree experience is no longer such- and that's assuming you can even obtain an appointment. most of the time we are bringing our pets to the doctor because they ate something they weren't supposed to or got injured, so waiting a week for an appointment isn't an option.

They've been having computer issues I guess, but after several weeks, that's not a decent excuse anymore. They were able to figure out what I owed them and take my money at the time of service, they should be able to give me an invoice.

Dr. Zelnic just gets me. I am a nervous pet mom and I do not like "procedures" done on my dogs. Putting my dogs under creates a ton of stress or me as I have seen the effects it has on humans. She is always quick to respond to those concerns with both of our dogs. Your staff from the front desk to the techs are always kind and courteous. They are quick to get back with test results and any other general question.

UVH is the best. There are numerous reasons, but I really appreciate how much their staff cares about our pet. When I called to make the appointment the staff was so friendly and talked about how much they love my dog. We love our Vet, Dr. Bybee. In the past we have always had great care, but having the consistency of Bybee as our vet has been the best thing for us, and the care of our pup. Dr. Bybee always follows up with a phone call to ensure we have an update, and no further questions. He has great "petside" manner.

We are from Idaho and was at the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake when our Bearded Collie Puppy became very sick. We found the University Veterinary hospital and took her there. We met Dr. McIlvenna and Julie the receptionist To say the least they are by far the best we have ever dealt with. If I lived in Salt Lake area we would drive over 60 miles to use this clinic. Just a passing note the price was very reasonable also.

Staff at university veterminary hospital are the most careing and helpful individuals. They went absolutely out of their way to help my dog even as far as calling me on a Saturday to let me know of a new idea my vet had (Dr. McIlvenna)on how to care for her Kidney Disease which came about from a conversation with the other veterinarians. They have made the deterioration of my dogs health much more bearable when comfort seemed impossible. I LOVE THIS VETERINARY CLINIC!!!!!

I had such an amazing experience with Dr. McIlvenna. My cat just had surgery to remove a tumor off of her leg. Dr. McIlvenna kept me up to date and really seemed to care about Nala's wellbeing before, during, and after surgery. I definitely will be bringing my other cat and my dogs in to see her. I could not be more pleased with the care and attention that was given to our ridgeback ,Titan, and my husband and I this morning. We were greeted instantly and seen by the technician in only a few minutes. The tech (Shay?) was very helpful. As for Dr. Walton, She was by far the selling point for me. She was extremely patient with all of my questions which means a lot as I really hate it when I forget or elect not to ask something bc I feel rushed. As for the price, I am not sure what everyone is complaining about. Is it higher than most? Yes, but not by that much. Titan finished up his puppy vaccinations today with the exam included I payed a grand $9 more than I did at the last vet for his previous round. I am more than happy to pay such a small amount extra to go to such a nice facility at a great location with such amazing employees taking care of my Titan.

The care is a little more expensive, but it is a very professional clinic and offers lots of treatment options you can't find other places. So far, I have always been able to get an appointment within just a few days of calling.

Jeff Neville here. This is a truly amazing Veterinary clinic. The staff Always treated our old pup Sandy (a lab/rottweiler mix) awesomely. In contrast to other vets, this is Very important as we experienced Alot of fear-based judgement at other clinics due to her being a large, part rottweiler pup. Dr. Zelnick (hope I spelled that right) was always & still is, beyond amazing. Sadly though, I can nolonger afford UVH. My wife & I make a meager living, but work Very hard & still cannot come close to being able to afford UVH. Now we have an amazing son too, so maybe that's why. I wouldn't dream of giving UVH a rating under 5-stars but REALLY wish they weren't so expensive. Does Anone know of a veterinary clinic as amazing as UVH that poorer folks like myself can afford?

They don't jump in and perform every possible test/treatment, but judiciously take things a step at a time, and then plan for the next step (if it becomes necessary). Over-treating is a common problem at some veterinary clinics, leaving one to wonder if it's just a way to inflate their bottom line. I never feel that way at University Vet Hospital.
