We love Lake Harriet Veterinary. Dr. Jessy is the BEST. Our dog has had many complicated health issues throughout his life and he has been to many different vets. No one has shown the compassion for him that Dr. Jessy and the rest of the team at Lake Harriet has shown him. I’m endlessly grateful for their care and the fact that they are upfront about charges ahead of time. I cannot recommend this vet enough.

We absolutely loved our first visit to the Lake Harriet Vet Clinic! We arrived a bit early, and they started our appointment early. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The vet sat with us for a full 20 minutes providing information and answering our questions. She offered a mix of Western and more holistic/alternative types of care (ex. to handle arthritis, we talked about both pain medication options as well as doggy chiropractic). Very excited to finally feel like we have a vet that partners with us to care for our dog!

We love LHV! Dr Jen is knowledgeable, helpful, and very kind. She is so gentle and loving with our anxious pup Louis. And all the other staff I've interacted with are super compassionate as well. Every time our dog has a time sensitive health need, they are able to get us in for an appointment quickly (that day or the next). I am also impressed with the way they have navigated each stage of the pandemic with thoughtfulness and care for the safety of owners, pets, and staff. It's always so stressful when pets are sick, but we really trust LHV with the lifelong care of our sweet boy and we're grateful for their presence in our neighborhood!

So incredibly patient with my overly anxious and fearful little guy. I know just how difficult and frustrating of a patient he can be, so I’m so appreciative of all the extra time and care they take with him. We’ve been at vets in the past that automatically label him as “aggressive” at the vet, which means they prepare for battle when they see him instead of coming in with compassion for his fears. I don’t ever feel like he’s been labelled as the “bad dog” here though. There’s been so much compassion towards him. I trust the vets here wholeheartedly! I always feel like I’m given the full story of what kind of additional tests or procedures need to be done and what isn’t needed. I remember the first time Cosette came in a few years ago and you brought out a towel with Feliway spray on it for her exam. She’s a fairly easy going patient, but it was still such a kind thing to do for her first time. Thank you for all you do! :)

Hands down the best vets in Minneapolis, if not the midwest in general. They treat everyone and every animal with respect and the highest level of care, kindly answering even the easiest and most obvious questions. My dogs had a variety of issues through the years and not once did I ever worry, knowing Lake Harriet was more than prepared to help my dogs through it all. I recently moved out of state and all I wish is that I could transport the entire clinic down to my city!

We have a challenging pup with a lot of anxiety and recently switched to LHV. Everyone here was absolutely fantastic with him! The vet got down on his level and made sure he felt comfortable and safe with her before doing any of the exam. The techs that administered the shots and blood draw were calm and patient while getting a muzzle on him (not an easy feat!) which helped lower his anxiety. All around great place, we’re clients for life.

I have been using Lake Harriet Veterinary for almost four years. They have always been helpful, kind, and quick to help figure out any ailments. My dogs don't mind going and love the treats. Dr. Jessy is especially thoughtful, gentle, and seems to truly care about my dogs. I appreciate that most of the staff trusts that I can handle my dogs and allows me to advocate for/handle them. Lake Harriet Vet is the best! We have had nothing but great experiences with LHV over the past 4+ years. Everyone from the front receptionists, techs, and vet staff has been amiable and compassionate to my family and our pets. They always ensure comfort and safety and make us feel at home every time we walk in the door. Our dog loves everyone at LHV but can be leash reactive with other dogs and they are pros at helping us get in and out with no/minimal interaction and help us get quickly into a room like it's no big deal. They treat our very fractious old cat with as much gentleness and respect (which goes fully unreciprocated) as possible and are patient while she makes their job incredibly challenging to do. LHV treats us like family and our pets like they were their own. I'm totally okay if they never know my name because they all know our doggo by name and shower her with love, praise, and treats every time we visit. Our dog has had her fair share of health issues (is a tripod, has cancer, foot injuries, stomach issues, etc) and we know we can trust LHV staff to give us the best advice, offer multiple viewpoints/approaches, and clearly lay out costs and benefits. They've given us referrals for bigger surgeries at AERC and worked with their team on pre and post op care seamlessly. Can't say enough good things about these folks! LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!

Lake Harriet Veterinary has provided sterling care for all three of my aged, inherited cats. Both of the docs, and all the staff, from the front desk to the exam rooms, have shown obvious, genuine care for them, as well as consideration for me in adjusting to last-minute shifts in our needs as two of my three approached the ends of their lives. Cost-of-care estimates are prompt, clear, and quite accurate; and the explanations of what to expect, should labs, or a procedure or imaging, be deferred are frank and delivered without pressure. The purpose of our recent visit was to assess my elderly Maine coon for what I suspected might be asthma. The estimated cost of X-rays was too high for my means at the moment, so I deferred them with assurance from Dr. Jen that my old girl is generally in very good health and keeping a close eye on her for worsening or more frequent signs poses a low risk. I initially came to LHV by recommendation from a coworker who had several dogs and four cats, and I too can recommend them without hesitation. My present cat has survived bowel surgery and distressingly negligent (omitted hydration after more than 24 hours of vomiting without subsequent fluid intake) care at our former vet clinic, and I wouldn't take her to any clinic that didn't have my full confidence.

The last time Gus was at the vet's, he was a nervous wreck. When I called to make his appointment, I told the person on the phone that he is a bit wary of new situations, so she made sure Gus could go to a room right away to reduce his nervousness. Initially he was shaking some, but with the calm, kind demeanor of the vet technician (and lots of gourmet treats!), Gus became calm & more comfortable. The vet, Dr. Cindy, was equally as patient & kind to Gus, making the whole experience easy & pretty stress-free for me, and more importantly, for Gus! Dr. Cindy was also a great communicator in explaining the various shots & treatments available for Gus. Lake Harriet Veterinary is an amazing place & I highly recommend it! I was happy to have found Lake Harriet Veterinary a few years ago after moving to Minneapolis. All of the staff has been kind, welcoming, responsive, and most importantly attentive to my pet’s care and best interests. Over the past year my dog had some late-in-life hardships. Dr. Jen saw him during this period and she was extremely helpful in compassionately providing transparent information to help me navigate my options. It was nice to feel some extra comfort in making tough decisions, and also reinforced the feeling that my dog was in good hands.

Get yourself a vet that not only provides kind, quality, and affordable care to your pets, but that also understands, acknowledges, and honors the grief and pain when one of them passes on. Our sweet dog passed away suddenly this year, and when LHV called later in the year to schedule what would have been his annual checkup, I told LHV about our loss. Staff were extremely kind and sympathetic, and a week or two later we received (1) a notice that LHV had made a donation in our dog's name to a veterinary school, and (2) a card absolutely full of heartfelt messages signed by what I assume is the entire LHV staff. And, we'd only been a client for less than a year. It meant so much to receive these messages, even many months after our pup's passing. Even in the midst of grief it feels good or affirming to know that other people understand the depth of your loss. I am very thankful for LHV's kindness and highly recommend them to anyone, especially if you think of your pet as family. They get it.

Dr. Palmieri was wonderful. She knew I was nervous for our first visit and she updated me multiple times by phone to tell me how my pup was doing. It's hard to tell how things are going when you can't go in with your pup, and mine hates the vet anyway, but he seemed calm and comfy when he came out. She examined him thoroughly and offered me several options to help him be more comfortable as it ended up he needs surgery for a leg injury.

Dr. Jim really read through all the records and my notes for my elderly hospice cat. He arrived prepared with a bunch of creative suggestions that I wasn't expecting, and tweaked my cat's delicate care in some subtle, light-touch ways that are clearly out of awareness and concern for what she must be experiencing. I think he was spot-on in his decision making, and now she's a much happier cat. This level of skill doesn't come from experience alone, it also requires a sensitivity and a deep empathy that aren't guaranteed just from years spent in this field. Dr. Jim is a rare treasure among veterinarians.

Everyone we met while there were AMAZING and so accommodating, start to finish! Having an xl reactive puppy is hard and even harder when you know a lot of his triggers are going to be where you’re going (kids, dogs, strangers, masks). He is muzzle trained for every day but being able to walk into LHV and have no one seem scared of him was huge for both of us, especially because he’s so sensitive to energy. He has always been weary of masks but he must have known all of you are good people because he didn’t care at all. Everyone let him do his weird invasive sniffs (I call them health checks) and that really just helped him settle and accept everyone. Plus our vet literally sat on the floor with us to do his exam and moved around with him instead of forcing him to stay still and talked through every single one of my concerns. THANK YOU!!!

Despite an all time high of Veterinary needs and incredibly overworked staff everywhere, Lake Harriet Veterinary is just amazing. I had to wait to get in, but the wait was worth it. My sweet pup had a year of dealing with urinary issues (mostly leaking while laying down). We were on other medication that wasn't working and didn't get many options on other things to do from my previous vet (who is a kind person, but just overworked and couldn't prioritize a non urgent issue). When I got in to meet with Dr Jessy, she was wonderful. She spent time with me and my pup, and gave me a path forward and 4 different treatment options to explore to move forward with process of elimination. Lucky for me, her first option worked and I am dealing with a pup who now does not leak on surfaces while laying down, she is happier and more playful and I couldn't be more grateful for the team at Lake Harriet Vet and Dr Jessy. In a time when Vets are overworked, overwhelmed and our world is a stressful place, I can't thank this group enough for the care and compassion they demonstrate.

I take my two cats here. They are a mix of both homeopathic and Western medicine which I love! They will examine your kitties on the floor (mostly) instead of forcing them up on the table. They even will get a towel with pheromones on it to calm your extra scared kitties. Definitely would suggest them! So kind and really pay attention to your desires as the owner.

I have been to Lake Harriet Veterinary once and had a great experience. I brought my two cats (1 1/2 years old) for their first routine checkup, some shots, and to have soft paws put on both of them. Everyone was incredibly friendly. The wait time was minimal. And both the staff and Dr. Jessy seemed very knowledgeable. Everyone is always happy to see us, even though one of my dogs can be difficult. The doctors are nice and take the time to listen to all my concerns. Dr. Cathy at Lake Harriet has taken care of our Great Dane for 7 years now--even after we moved away in 2015. We tried other holistic vets in our new city but none seemed as caring and knowledgeable as the doctors at Lake Harriet, so we just schedule appointments during our trips back! Oh my! Where would I be without Lake Harriet Vet and Dr Jessy?! My sweet dog has had no shortage of health issues, truly a gamete of inherited and happenstance health issues and Dr Jessy has helped me navigate it all. I had tried a few clinics in the area and I’ve been happy to call Lake Harriet home. They are experienced, they’ve helped me where other vets were stumped, they promote different modalities of healing from western to eastern, something I practice for myself and is a natural translation for my pet, and they truly care. I have tons of respect and appreciation as they do things like help layout how to get my dog to a healthy weight, explain the costs associated to treatment, and talk me through how to tend to my dogs needs. One challenge has been finding a food for my dog. The shops where I buy food from praise my vet for setting me up with good information and we’ve eventually found something that works for her. I love my dog and I want to keep her healthy for as long as possible, I think that’s totally possible with Lake Harriet.

My dog is old and I don't want the routine shots and tests; I want to make sure she's comfortable for the last months to years of her life. The vet at Lake Harriet spent 30 minutes with us, really focused in on Daisy and I felt worked WITH me to create a plan for Daisy's care for however much time she has left. Plus, the offices are beautiful, everyone is friendly--and my bill was much less than I expected. My former vet clinic was in now way bad, and a number of my friends take their pets there and are more than satisfied, but Lake Harriet is just a better experience for me and my dog.

We are very pleased with the care our sweet dog receives here. She is nervous about going to the vet and having blood drawn, but they were very kind, gentle and patient with her. She loves going in and seeing everyone and getting treats. I love that they didn't have an exam table for me to put her on. She wouldn't have liked that. She was more comfortable on the floor and it was nice to see them get down on the floor with her and examine her there where she could step away if she felt nervous and come back when she was feeling brave. We also received some good information about a vaccine that our last vet hadn't done, but needed to do. I love that they are offering mail order for prescriptions now too! I can’t say enough about this place. My two cats have been coming here since they were kittens in 2011. We practice natural healthcare at home for us humans and wanted the same for our pets. I recently had to bring one of them in for his teeth and I made the mistake of trying to go to a traditional vet because they were closer since we moved. Well, we ended back at Lake Harriet for a second opinion and never again will I stray. Once back at Lake Harriet, all my intuition and conclusions were confirmed about his health and I was treated so well there. Peek-A-Bou was treated amazing, the interaction with Dr. Meghan with him was just incredible. She talked to him and handled him like a family member, the way we do. She answered all my questions and reassured me that I was a good cat mom and doing everything right. I hate the way traditional vets make you feel pressured and like your not taking care of your pets if you don’t vaccinate etc. They are just like regular MD’s and Pediatricians. I took my two Rottweiler puppies to Lake Harriet for about a year. The staff adored my female as she is sweet and very easy to handle. I always found them to be very accommodating when I had situations arise where my dogs required urgent care. The Vet that we preferred to see was friendly and extremely competent, and the facility itself was clean and bright. I would offer a couple of pieces of constructive feedback, and advise to those exploring vet options. I felt at times that the appointments and exams with the vet were excessive through puppyhood, and that it wasn't explained to me what I was paying for with each visit. You can imagine with two puppies things add up! Also, my male is high energy, stubborn, and dramatic, as many Rottweilers are. I could sense that the staff was uncomfortable handling him. They techs felt more comfortable muzzling him before handling him. I respect their safety, but I felt the muzzling for minor handling was unwarranted and created a lot of stress for me and my happy go lucky boy that I wasn't comfortable with. I now take him to another vet that handles him with much more confidence and ease. If you chose Lake Harriet (which is most certainly not a bad decision!) I would advise that if money is of concern, don't be afraid to question and say what you want, or don't want done. I also wouldn't recommend for strong willed dogs/breeds.

Lake Harriet Veterinary was the fifth vet within 5 years I visited with my oldest dog and we were happy to FINALLY find a good vet that we could trust. Some of the main reasons why I love LVH is that they take the time to listen to all of the questions that I have, the vet knows my dog's history before they even walk in the door, they make recommendations that are really in the best interest of the dogs (not for financial reasons), they stay "current" in terms of research and suggestions for the vaccines that a dog should get and most of all my dogs have less anxiety visiting this vet than they did with any other vet. This vet is far from my house, however making the investment of travelling further for a good vet has been worth it.

They took care of my rabbit when we went in to get neutered, answered all of my questions (including those I asked on the phone the next morning!), and called me after the weekend to do follow-up on his recovery. The location is also convenient for me, though I wish the parking situation was better (but it's Minneapolis, so I wouldn't expect any different). I've been a client of this vet for almost 15 years. I highly recommend them!! They aren't the cheapest vet on the planet, but ever heard of that saying, "Sometimes you get what you pay for?" It's true. These docs are amazing, they have a great philosophy that blends both Eastern and Western Medicine. Dr. Cathy has always taken the time to listen to my concerns, and provide her feedback. They do great followup to make sure everything is going okay. They really partner together with owners for the care of your animal. I'd trust this clinic with all and any of my pets for anything! And the vet techs simply rock!! You can't go wrong with Lake Harriet Vet!

If you are looking for a vet that can accommodate at-need appointments, this is not the place. We use this vet for annual checkups/shots, but the U or M is much better for at-need appointments.

I've switched my service from other vets to Lake Harriet on two occasions now. The other vets just didn't seem to understand nor care about the variance and complexities of various dog breeds and basically wanted to limit their service to dishing out vaccines and overpriced spay operations. Maybe you could argue that the "other vet" was just substandard, but ultimately I had a dog with special needs who needed some thoughtful care, and LH was always good to me and very considerate when she passed. Thankfully my new dog is normal and healthy, but the "other vet" quoted us almost 60% more for her spay operation ... I guess I won't be going to "other vet" anymore... better service at a better value at Lake Harriet.

A wonderful place to have your pets cared for. No unreasonable testing. We just had to have our16-year-old cat out to sleep and everyone at the clinic was so kind. The euthanasia of a pet, of course, is never enjoyable, but this was a very peaceful and caring process. The clinic vets and staff even sent a donation in our cat’s name to a veterinary school companion animal fund. So thoughtful!

This vet practice is absolutely fabulous. They do all the right things, in my opinion. I've had dogs all my life and have had good vets, but this practice way exceeds my expectations every time I go! Upon arriving, my dog and I are always greeted with personal caring, my apt is on time and the vets are knowledgeable about conventional and alternative methods of vet care. They suggested to me to have my dog get acupuncture to bring her out of anesthesia in a better way when she had her teeth cleaned, and I went for it - normally wouldn't have, but it was only $10 and they said it really makes a difference. It was VERY different from any of my animals who've been sedated in the past, my dog wasn't groggy or sick, but perky and healthy right away. Amazing. I'll do it every time now, having seen it for myself! I get titers taken for my vaccinations each year, after I discuss which ones are important to do and which ones are not; in general it's clear to me that our dogs are way over-vaccinated unnecessarily, and I want to keep my dog healthy for as long as possible, so this offers a wonderful alternative that is accepted as a substitution for rabies shot in most MN cities if there's ever a problem. I was able to completely skip last year's shots since my dog has enough immunity from the year before! I've discussed behavioral issues with my vet at Lake Harriet (my primary vet is Nicole - just lover her!) - she was so knowledgeable and got to the heart of the issues clearly, effectively and respectfully. All 3 vets are absolutely wonderful, I've met them all at times when I've needed more urgent care, or when one had a specialty in a certain area, and I feel that each of them are strong, intuitive and excellent at their craft. This is the practice for me; I choose doctors like this for me too - bridgers trained in traditional school but their hearts are in looking at the whole person, consider and decide on the least invasive and most effective treatment for the individual situation. I'm delighted to have a vet clinic that I trust to this level and believe in for my dog's care... Two years after writing this email I'm chiming in again to say I still feel great about this vet practice. I give them my highest recommendation!

Lake Harriet Vet is one of the top notch vets in town. It is way ahead of the curve in many ways. They were one of the first "fear free" certified clinics in Minneapolis. They are extremely concerned with the comfort of the animals so you will find hormone calming diffusers in every exam room and the lobby. They have both eastern and western practitioners. If your animal is the slightest bit afraid they will not push it. They offer small animal care. If you call them and the doc is in an apt they will do their best to relay a message and get an answer or ask another vet who might be available or your vet will get back to you quickly. They are the best and I completely trust them with my 4lb Yorkie!

Even though i live in North Minneapolis and my cats do NOT enjoy riding across town, no matter how i try to make it comfortable, i still prefer to come to Lake Harriet Vet. Their support with my older animals was gentle and very helpful. Medication was never the first thing suggested, rather we talked about behavior, feeding, stress in the household, and when medication was the best option, I was given both herbal and pharmaceutical treatments. I don't want to over vaccinate, so we spend time reviewing what makes sense and what doesn't for my cats. I have been to other vets, where i felt that it was all about the shots and others that were very cold, if efficient. I prefer the individual care that i know i will get here.

We really love Lake Harriet Veterinary, all the staff!! I found this office after my previous vet closed, I was looking for full holistic pet care. Since I have a boxer, and they're cancer magnets(!) I am particular about food, and very interested in keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. My current boxer is very happy with the care she gets, and all the loving pats she collects whenever she visits. We have regular spring appts for heartworm prevention and have recently had her over-grown gums attended to--she came through very well; the services are reasonable and well explained prior to the day of appt. I have absolutely loved my experiences at Lake Harriet Veterinary! I went there on a recommendation from a friend. My dog was throwing up bile all the time and I had no idea why, plus she had a small bump on her back that I assumed was a cyst but I wanted to get it looked at anyways. I'm a college student so money really matters to me, of course my dog matters more but it's a huge factor. The first time I went in, I agreed to doing all of the necessary tests. Once all the tests came back normal, we put my dog on a bland diet for a little and then I tried switching her back to normal food. She started puking again so I called and asked what was recommended. The vet remembered that money was important and instead of pushing for my dog to get an x-ray to see if anything was stuck, unlikely since I had been watching her so closely, she recommended that I switch her dog food to a sensitive solutions in case of allergies. She hasn't puked since and the vet saved me about $150! The bump was a harmless cyst as well, so all is good with my pup, my wallet, and most importantly my trust/relationship with my vet. They answered calls and got back to me very quickly as well!

The doctors have been great at diagnosing my pets' health issues and taken care of them all very well. The prices are affordable and lower than other vets I've encountered. The staff knows my dogs' names when we walk in the door. They take care of my daughter's cats and dog, and my friends' pets, too. FANTASTIC VET CLINIC!!

Lake Harriet is a great veterinary center. I found Lake Harriet as a recommendation from my primary veterinarian for my dog who needed some holistic alternative medicine such as acupuncture and laser therapy. The ladies at the front desk are always helpful and scheduling and moving appointments is easy. I like the layouts of the exam rooms with the large mat on the floor and on the table (my dogs slips on tile floors). The technicians are always friendly. My dog has seen both Dr. Jim and Dr. Cathy Sinning and I feel confident bringing my dog to either of them. The acupuncture and laser therapy my dog receives at Lake Harriet has made a difference in her comfort level and I will continue take her to Lake Harriet for these therapies.

I love Lake Harriet Veterinary! They are not my regular vet, but I went to them when my 14 year old cocker spaniel started having seizures and I wanted to look into holistic options. I am so impressed with Lake Harriet Vet! My cats experienced a cluster of problems in a short period of time: one had a severe upper respiratory infection, another very senior cat quit eating, and the third developed what appears to be a neurological disorder. Each of the now 4 doctors we've seen has been incredibly thorough and unhurried. Options for treatment and costs were clearly explained. The cats were treated with gentleness. When the decision to euthanize senior cat was made, I was so grateful that the room was ready upon arrival, so that I didn't have to sit sobbing in the lobby. Tissues were on the table. Nothing was rushed. I was given time afterwords to stabilize. Cat number one made a full recovery. Cat number three is still undergoing treatment - and in her regard, I feel that Dr. Jessie went beyond expection when she took time to review videos I sent and then spend 15 minutes on the phone discussing what might be going on. LHV is a wonderful clinic!

I have a dog with serious anxiety issues, so I'm careful about where we go for vet care. We've been to other clinics where I've seen him trembling and frozen unnecessarily for simple procedures like his basic physical exam because a tech or the vet was too quick, too rough, and didn't seem to have basic awareness of body language or didn't care to take a few extra minutes easing into things. That said, the staff at Lake Harriet have all been wonderful. Every tech and receptionist I've seen, and both Drs. Cathy and Jim are all gentle, thoughtful, careful listeners, and you can tell they truly care about your pet. My dog always receives tons of treats, lots of happy talk, and the consideration for his space and time that he needs when we come in. I've never had a problem getting an appointment within a reasonable timeframe and they try to go the extra mile whenever possible, ensuring I get his meds on time, taking special care (and waiving the office visit fee) when he had to come in for a bite from another dog, and making sure we get into a room promptly because he's afraid being around other dogs in the lobby. would highly recommend to anyone!

I brought my cat in for a behavioral issue as well as a general exam with booster shot and blood test. I was able to move my appointment really easily (the behavioral issue had me move up the regular appointment by 2 weeks) and they understood when I had to move it again after not being able to get my cat in the carrier. The receptionist was completely adequate, but nothing to note. The vet tech was not friendly, but very professional. The real winner of the story was the vet. Nicole Palmieri was amazing. So kind and gentle with our very scared cat and you could tell she really cared about our new fur baby. I wouldn't take my cat anywhere else. Everyone I come into contact with at Lake Harriet Vet is kind and pleasant and they are all gentle and very skilled in handling animals. Outside of regular veterinary care, they offer some alternative health options. My cat had to have a tooth pulled and before the procedure they explained some of the options for alternative after-care. One of the options, for instance, was acupuncture to help her come out of the anesthesia more quickly. I have never seen an animal recover so quickly! I love love love this place and recommend it to anyone I know who has an animal!!

We have been taking our cats to Lake Harriet since Alta Vet closed years ago, and they are the best. In that time, they have provided care to 5 kitties ranging in age from less than a year (a rescue-turned-forever-ours who'd recently had kittens) to 21 years old. Dr. Nicole has been our primary vet, and has done a wonderful job not only putting the cats at ease (even the one who had serious behavioral/stress problems liked Dr. Nicole), but also explaining conditions and treatment options to us, answering our (at times copious) questions, and providing practical recommendations. She helped guide us through end-of-life care and decision making processes in a way that was sensitive and realistic, and displayed a good sense of humor with the kitties' more uncooperative and/or disgusting moments. :) Overall, the front desk staff, techs, and vets have been helpful, kind and focused on problem-solving. They have, when appropriate, suggested other resources, and in urgent situations, they have worked to get us in quickly to ensure proper care. I strongly recommend LHV.

I just switched to Lake Harriet Vet from another local vet and we had a wonderful experience. I didn't like how my last vet would pressure me into all the vaccines and year-round heartworm/tick. My dog and I went in for an annual check up and met with vet Megan. Both her and the vet tech took time to get to know my dog and build trust with a lot of treats. They didn't pressure me into unnecessary vaccines and helped me to understand when I might consider certain ones. The whole visit was stress-free for my dog, she probably would want to go back for all of the treats she got. I love Lake Harriet Vet because they're an alternative option to conventional clinics. I recommend them to ALL of my friends looking for a holistic vet clinic. Before finding Dr. Cathy at Lake Harriet, the conventional vet I used diagnosed my neutered male cat Roy with Struvite crystals and said he'd have to be on prescription food the rest of his life. I wanted something better so I researched natural, holistic clinics and found Lake Harriet Vet Clinic. After the initial exam/consultation with Dr. Cathy, putting Roy on a high quality canned cat food and a few urinalysis rechecks, Roy's PH is normal and there are NO SIGNS OF CRYSTALS! When I moved to Minneapolis about 6 years ago, I started bringing my 13 year old Sheltie to Lake Harriet Vet and had an absolutely terrific experience. In addition to being very savvy when it comes to all things veterinary, the staff are always incredibly friendly and caring with my dog. As a Minnesota transplant, I've found that it is hard enough to try and find a new doctor for yourself, but trying to find a good Doctor for your pet is even harder. I went to Lake Harriet on a recommendation from a site like this and hoped that it was a good fit. I have never felt as taken care of in a doctors office as I felt my poor sick kitten was at their facility. They walked me through the entire process, and never left me wondering what was going on. My 10 year old cat Archibauld had been vomiting and could not be seen at his clinic til the next day but they recommended Lake Harriet Veterinary. I called and had an appointment that morning! Registration was easy and Archie was seen within 5 min. Dr. Megan and vet assistant were friendly, explained what they were going to do. Dr. Meg gave me her recommendations, explanation of what she proposed could be done now, along with a print out of cost of each item. Archie had his x-ray, I had the result immediately after and that the Radiologist would do the final reading. I had the final results by early afternoon. Only three. Average. We have been using Lake Harriet for 5 years now, and have mostly received excellent care for our two GSD's. We drive in from far away to find a vet that supports the BARF diet. We have followed Dr Sinning from Alta Vet in fact, after briefly trying someone nearer to us in Victoria. I have found the last couple visits not up to par.. However my last visit was a bit worse. The vet (not Dr. Sinning) was very nice and engaging with my Dog, but the assistant who interviewed me first (nurse or vet tech) didn't seem to have any idea what the BARF diet was, or any of our history. I told her we would NOT need a optional vaccination that day.. as we didn't intend to board out our dog anywhere. They took Wilbur back to do a couple of exams, and when I paid the bill I saw I was being charged for the injection. They handled the mistake appropriately and did not charge me... but they HAD injected by dog. I will not let him go out of my sight there for some time. It seems the communication between me and the vet tech who interviewed me in the room was worthless.

We have been using LHV for the past 10 years. We mainly see Dr. Cathy Sinning but have also used the other doctors who have been great as well. They fit one of our dogs in for an emergency surgery a few years ago after a visit which is not easy to do and I was so thankful. When we needed to make an end-of-life decision a few years later, Dr. Cathy went out of her way to make that transition easier and fit us into her schedule when we only had an annual visit scheduled and ended up making that end-of-life decision that same day. I know I can trust their advice and I don't know what I would do without their experience and expertise. The best thing is I never have to wait and my appointment is either on time or early! The vet techs and clerical staff are awesome as well. Everyone is so friendly and efficient! They are so worth the extra drive for us.

We no longer wake up in the middle of the night to him itching or licking himself - instead, he's back to his cuddly self. The price is a little steep compared to other vets, but it is well worth it. We started going to Lake Harriet in 2006 with our cats. The staff are warm and caring towards both owners and pets. Other vets had our pets on courses of medications, prescription food - and it was making the cats more sick. When we started seeing the Lake Harriet doctors this all changed. Getting regular dental care, eating healthier raw food and approaching their care from a more holistic perspective has saved their lives. I really believe this and the proof is in the improvement in the energy the cats both have and the dramatic reduction in symptoms--particularly in our older cat. It's a little further away but I am very happy with my choice. We've had the same vet in Maple Grove for 18 years and felt pretty attached and connected to them, and I love my dogs to bits, so this was a big decision for me! As fate would have it, we've had to make at least four visits in the last couple of months and I've been impressed with the entire staff every step of the way. They're great, they really care about my dogs, when I call with an emergency (I had two elderly and infirm dogs for a while, so this was a pretty regular event) they work with me and do their best to get my sick ladies in same day. It's never a guarantee, but I don't know what some of these reviewers expect. I switched to them for support with feeding a raw diet when my old vet told me that it was "dangerous" and were completely unable/willing to support us, and instead insisted on a "prescription" kibble for my diabetic lady that was made primarily of corn, which I wouldn't feed to a diabetic OR a dog.

They called a few days later to check on my family and while cremating her, they took paw prints for us to have. A few weeks later, we received a condolence card and a donation letter. There is simply not a more competent, caring, or professional veterinary clinic out there. Like a lot of folks, I switched vets - in my case, after the one I'd been seeing was abruptly let go from another clinic, and we weren't getting the friendly, personable service we had come to expect from the other doctors. Everyone had great things to say about Dr. Jim and the staff at LHV, and from the first visit, I knew my dog and I were in good hands. Beyond treating my dog, they have made some very helpful suggestions regarding diet and supplements as he moves into his later years, and I am happy to say that the results have been noticeable in terms of his energy and health. My girlfriend had been seeing the same vet as me pre-LHV, but hadn't switched. When her dog broke her leg and a very tough situation needed to be addressed with compassion to both the dog and the owner, that previous clinic really dropped the ball. I immediately had her go to Lake Harriet, and they didn't let us down. They answered the hard questions with empathy, and in the end, we went with a surgery that gave my girlfriend six more good months with her dog - and the opportunity to both spoil her rotten and prepare (as much as you can) to say goodbye when the time came. This was also handled at the clinic with dignity and love. I cannot imagine another clinic taking care of my dog (and me!) than Lake Harriet Veterinary.

I could never say enough good things about Lake Harriet. I brought my teacup Yorkie in for a titer test, once. They all fawned over her and loved her so much. The doctor was very friendly and addressed all of my concerns. Unfortunately, two days after I brought her in she passed away unexpectedly. When the doctor called on the results of the titer, I cried my eyes out to this poor man I had met once. He talked with me for nearly 20 minutes about my dog and had such kind words for me. A few days after that I got a card in the mail, signed by all the staff at Lake Harriet with kind words about my little Yorkie. They also donated money to a college veterinary program in her name. I am so, SO impressed with how far above and beyond they went for a dog they met once that wasn't even a regular patient at their practice. I'd give 10 stars if I could.

This place is incredible! I was about to adopt a puppy and needed to get my current dog his updated shots. Best ferret vet! And in general the best vet I've ever encountered. It's rare to find a vet who is truly familiar with ferrets, but Dr Palmieri has ferrets herself. Regarding treatment, they have the knowledge to recommend options that are both conservative and effective. In one instance I had a very old ferret that was suffering from adrenal failure (which causes many issues, among which are loss of fur). Dr Palmieri recommended a treatment that not only dealt with the adrenal issue, but also ended up causing all of her fur to grow back, and she has never been happier. And the treatment, in this instance, was very inexpensive. Every member of the staff is extremely professional and very friendly. Their rates are very reasonable, and (in my experience) they will always recommend the conservative (and less expensive) treatment before the ones of higher cost. As I said, they will always present all the options, but you can also count on them to give advice that is best for the animal and for you. I am very protective of my ferrets, to the point where I don't even go on vacation because I don't trust anyone to take care of them. But I would feel perfectly comfortable dropping them off with this vet office and know that they would receive the best care possible; I never worry about the ferrets when they are there. Not only do they receive the best care, but they receive a great deal of love, too. They also give very realistic advice regarding treatment; there have been a few instances where it was better to end their suffering rather than take extraordinary measures to keep them alive. Regardless of their recommendations, it was always handled with compassion and understanding, and whatever I decided was the final word. They guide but do not force. And when it is time to say goodbye, they provide time and space to grieve in whatever way is needed. And they grieve right along with you; I believe that they truly love all of the pets placed under their care. I have been to different vets and animal hospitals, because ferrets require a great deal of care. But I have never encountered a group like this one. And if they can provide such extraordinary service to exotic animals like mine, I can only imagine what great service they give to the dogs and cats that they see so frequently (which is probably why every time I go there, there are ALWAYS people with cats and dogs who are there for treatment or checkups as well). No one else has ever cared for my animals as they do. I have lived in the Twin Cities for two years, and if I ever move, I don't know how any other office will live up to the standard which they have set. For the sake of my ferrets, I may never be able leave the area. They really are that good.

Odell is a differently-abled dog (she doesn't have the use of her rear legs) with particularly nasty seasonal allergies; for many vets, we were often a nagging problem to be solved with excessive medications and prescriptions--an approach that just doesn't feel right to us. We were referred to Lake Harriet Veterinary in an effort to seek a more holistic approach to solving some of her allergy issues and to continue her acupuncture and chiropractic care. We wanted a clinic that would work "with" us, not simply tell us what to do. We could not be more pleased with our experience at Lake Harriet: Odell loved all of the attention from the staff and the delicious (and allergen-free!) treats provided to her; I was blown away with the level of care provided, all of the friendly and professional staff we interacted with, and how intently Dr. Jim listened to me, my concerns, and preferences for Odell's care.

I've been going to LHV for over a year now, after having switched from a vet I'd taken my cats to for over 4 years. The main reason I switched vets is because I felt that nobody really listened to me and that they thought I was a PITA with all the questions I asked, especially after one of my cats passed away. The staff, techs & vets at LHV really take the time to get to know me and my cats, no matter how many questions or concerns I have. They work with me to help understand any problems my cats may have and come up with a solution that is as holistic as possible. While I may not always see the same vet at each visit, my cats rotate between 2 different vets which allows us to develop a long-term relationship, something that is important to me. The prices may be a bit on the high side, but overall, I really like LHV and recommend it to anybody that may ask.

My dog had a severe allergic reaction to a bug bite yesterday that developed very quickly and started affecting her breathing. I drove into the vet pretty hysterical, and the girls at the front were so sweet and had someone come check her out even though everyone was on break at the time. There are few vets that feel comfortable working with small pets or exotics. I was so fortunate to discover Lake Harriet Veterinary when my chinchilla Noodles accidentally escaped from his cage while being taken care of by a petsitter and got into some ant traps under my fridge and some insulation pushing through the floorboards! I read that there was a doctor in the practice with experience with small animals, a very rare find, so I was feeling lucky. I contacted them by phone and email and was booked promptly. When we got there, the staff were extremely compassionate and friendly. Chinchillas don't make it to the vet often, so we were met with much interest and enthusiasm! The doctor was loving, gentle, and very excited to check on Noodles. I brought the ant trap box in so we could look at the ingredients and the doctor told me that Noodles had no belly pains, looked to be in great health, and that he would have had to consume the human equivalent to salt to get sick or die from the ant poison. $50 for a walk-in checkup was a small price to pay for the security of my healthy animal. I expected to have to pay a lot more.

We absolutely love Lake Harriet Vet. We appreciate that they are holistic and conservative in their approach. In multiple instances they've recommended a "wait-and-see" approach before suggesting expensive tests, and each time it's been the right decision. For example, our dog has had a seizure every few months. Many vets, including the one we went to before, would recommend anti-seizure medication. Knowing the side effects of those meds, and given the infrequency of the seizures, LHV has us on a conservative approach using supplements, which seem to be working well so far. A few years back I took in one of our pups to get a skin growth looked at; the vet we saw said it looked like a skin injury that was healing, and to give it another 1-2 weeks--if it was still there, come back in and they'd remove and do a biopsy. Sure enough, it was an injury that went away. Our previous vet would have sliced it off and biopsied without a second thought. I have no doubt, however, that if they were concerned, they would recommend whatever was appropriate (and they absolutely did when our previous dog developed a melanoma--without a pause they referred us to a specialist). We've seen most of the vets at LHV and feel comfortable with them all. There isn't any struggle to get a large dog on a cold metal table--they get down on the floor with the dog, and it's obvious they truly care about each animal. We've made a habit of driving over there every month or so to take the dogs in, weigh them, and give them treats; as a result, they love LHV and the staff knows them well. I recommend LHV to anyone who asks. We are so grateful that we switched to them.

Our dog had a small incident where she cut her ear this past Saturday. I called LHV right away and they gave me some advice on what we should do.
