Reviews of Animal Humane Society
Michael Bishop
April 2021: We went to go adopt a hedgehog. Unfortunately, she was already adopted so we checked out the cats. Only one available that needed to be homed by themselves and we already have cats.
We went to the dog area and eventually agreed to adopt our Loki. The name idea being he would be "low key". He has been a blessing.
The staff helped us through the process and offered suggestions on what items we would need for our first dog. I really appreciated how serious they took COVID-19. I would highly recommend this location.
Kumiko Sachs
We adopted our husky “Kira” from here in September. She’s been a wonderful dog for our family. The staff made the adoption process straightforward, and everyone was great to work with. They were really busy the day we went, which made me happy. Since Kira was already spayed, we got to adopt and take her home the same day. We made sure to get her microchipped as well. At $30 it is a very reasonable cost. Great job Animal Humane Society :)

We adopted all three of our babies at the Golden Valley Humane Society throughout the years! They all had their vaccines and surgeries needed prior to adopting! We love going back and visiting the other animals. The volunteers and employees are passionate about caring for these animals and finding them forever homes.
Irene Dabill
We adopted Umami (previously called Winter) in October and he has brought us so much happiness. He is the friendliest, sweetest, most talkative cat ever! Adopting through Golden Valley Humane Society was so quick and painless. We met Umi, loved him, and were able to adopt him within a few hours. They have great little enclosures that you can go inside to meet them and they are very honest with each cats needs. They are also generous enough to provide a bag of cat food with the adoption which was amazing.
When I inquired about microchipping, they were also able to do that for us that same day before we took him home.
Not to mention the free vet visit you get with their approved vet clinics all over the twin cities!
Overall it was such an amazing experience, the employees here really care about the animals and are able to adopt out a significant number of animals every day which means more get the chance to come into the shelter to find their forever home.
I will absolutely recommend them to everyone, and we are so grateful to have our sweet little Umami in our lives now.
Greg Kellogg
Not only can you adopt an animal they also offer training services and pet socializing. My pup loves coming here and they do a really good job of supervising and explaining the proper way puppies should play together.
Christina Hill
The humane society help me when my emotional support animal got seriously ill and I could not afford the bill.
They helped me get a grant to pay for Pajama Sam's care, who without it probably would not be here with me today.
For all of us when we make those donations either one time a year or monthly, or who can only afford $5 like me or $500, consider donating to the Humane Society Organization!
Thanks from PJ and I.
Paul Knigge
my dog snuck out the house and was at the Humane Society. They had a picture of him online. They didn't charge anything and were really compassionate. Even gave me a leash because I forgot one in my haste.
Elizabeth Mathers
I went in and adopted a cat. I hadn't had a cat in a couple years. Everyone was really informative. The process of adoption went quickly. The representative was very informative summaries were copied and pasted for many animals who had similar situations but it was good to know. They have easy to search options too to help you find your ideal match. Easy to access website. Hopefully they will be able to give many animals great homes.
If you do adopt, you will need to buy a collar and tag! Be prepared to spend more than just the adoption fee! They have cardboard carriers if you do not have one, but it would be best to get a pet carrier/transportation ahead of time!

Honestly this is THE PLACE TO GO, we got my first family dog here when I was like 1.5 years old, then we got a dog that 100% chose me and she was a great dog, who decided I was her person. Then we got an amazing German shepherd here in like 2012, and now I just got my most recent dog here, he's a rottweiler pitbull mix that when I was there rested his head on me in the cutest way, that's what made me pick him, i 100% felt a connection. But he's one of the smartest dogs I've met me he started picking up on tricks right away, I bring him to work everyday and he roams our auto wrecking yard, comes on daily car rides with me (LOVES CARS SO SO MUCH, Which is great because hes almost our yards mascot) is an amazing guard dog (definitely seems like hed protect me from situations we've been in), he taught himself to hunt mice, and even "tip toe" up on the mice which is really cute, and honestly one of the most amazing dogs I've ever met, thanks golden valley, you saved him from a kill shelter in Texas.
I went to the Woodbury location and it was a HORRIBLE experience that left me feeling bad for the animals that end up there but the golden valley location is a totally different more positive vibe, Woodbury should take notes, and maybe not STARVE their animals to try and help you make a "connection"...... it's messed up if you've been to the Woodbury location..........

Adopted my love Floki. He is an amazing 8 month old male cat, healthy and so loving. Thank you for my Lil love.
Robin Bloedow
Super helpful, kind, knowledgeable staff! I found my new fur baby! 10 yrs old and she's going to live her best years here. Thank you to the people who turned her in because they had too many animals. She has a forever home and is already super happy here!!

A lifesaver for me! I am 75 years old and was looking for guidance in an end of life for my 14 blind and feeble dog.
I called 4 different vets only to find out that the cost would be over $400.
Fortunately, I called Golden Valley Humane Society and talked to the KINDEST man who walked me through the process and then set me up with an appt. for a week out. He stressed that I enjoy this time with my pet.
The cost was $130. and the two girls who assisted me were SO KIND AND HELPFUL.
What a blessing!
Paul Miller
Very nice adoptions. Thought Animal Humane Society covered the cost of feline lukemia. I was told Humane Society covered the first $250 if services are required. I was only covered for the exam. Please assist
That was $227 out of my pocket for the leukemia test and booster
Melissa Vaughn
Took my daughter here for her first time, remembering how much I loved it when I was a kid. She thought it was fun to see the cats and puppies, although there were very few animals to see. Just about 6 grown cats and 3 puppies. She was terrified of the big dogs in back. I would say they were a little intimidating. I remember this being way more exciting when I was young.
Donna Johnson
I Rescued/Adopted a 3 month old Cur black mouth hound whose name was Laine now named Diamond Girl. She is absolutely a love bug. ❤️ She took to potty training like nothing. Got her last Thursday not one accident. She is fun and loves to cuddle and play with a bunch of toys. She listens very well working on sitting laying and shaking her paw, and is doing awesome. Thank you for saving her so we could give her a wonderful home where she is loved by all. Still working on meeting and playing with her lil bro and sis.
Jennifer Smith
The Animal Humane Society in the Twin Cities does an amazing job rescuing and adopting animals. I have adopted six rabbits through them and could not be happier with my experience. Do not hesitate to work with AHS. Be a part of the miracles they make happen.
Terea Carlisle
Just absolutely really top notch I really enjoyed my experience there where I brought home little Clementine thank you so much
Moglie
Such wonderful people here helping animals. They have been helping a friend and I control the cat population at a trailer park thru a volunteer based program! I can't thank them enough for All the help they have provided!! They also have made donations of cat food, towels, and blankets! 😻 …
J Marie
we just adopted a dog there. this place is tidy and clean/all staff are very friendly and helpful. super easy to make an appointment online, only took about 20mins to finish the paperwork. we are super happy with the new family member, thank you ❤️

So this might be a totally different spin on a Humane Society review than one might expect but I want to share that in addition to exceptional fur-ever friend adoption services, they also offer an amazing children's educational program! There are many classes and camps to choose from throughout the year with anything from a half-day, in clinic class for older students that might want to pursue veterinary medicine to week-long, summer day camps for younger kids (or even the older ones... up through 8th grade) that want to spend their days learning about furry friend care with hands-on experience! They also offer a few classes here and there during the school year's scheduled days off. They even have a read to the pets program where kids (and parents) take a brief training then sign up to go and read to the animals for an hour.
If you have a child who loves animals, this is AbSoLuTeLy worth checking out!
Just FYI, all of the children's programs do have a fee, including the read to the animals program... However, when you consider the gift you are giving to not just the animals, but the staff that work so tirelessly, and the children so eager to love on the animals and the time it takes to make it all happen, the fees are well worth it. For example, my 10 y.o. child wanted to take one of the Saturday classes for kids who might want to pursue becoming a veterinarian. During the Saturday class she was able to learn about the more behind the scenes, "medical" aspect of care and was able to not only watch a cat being spayed, but was also able to do things like practice giving the routine animal shots by practicing with syringes on oranges.
Oh! But if you are looking for summer classes, please know that they fill up sUpEr FAST... as in many of the summer camps go to the waitlist by mid to late February! So, the sooner you sign up, the better!
Please just know that whether you are looking to find that fur-ever friend or to enrich your child's summer (or school year) by spending time and giving back to animals that they will be in good hands, and have a great experience in the local Humane Society enrichment programs.
Trish Deutsch
We are doing another round of classes with our second dog. Always very impressed!
Mike DeOtis
I was surprised that they only had one cat available for adoption. Obviously they're doing a great job at finding homes for the animals they receive. Good job Animal Humane society!
Randy Anderson
We have always taken our dogs here for puppy socialization. Now we are going to training classes and we really like it compared to other places we have used.
Bri Plaid
I bought their 3 month training pass and am so glad that I did! It has made a huge difference in my relationship with my dog, her behavior, and even fostered a calmer disposition around other dogs. I will be honest that the quality of training does seem to vary by the trainer so I do have my favorites, but they all care and are very knowledgeable on dog behavior and have great tips even outside of class. I would definitely recommend.
I can't speak to the adoption services currently but we did have a childhood dog we adopted from here years ago and it went well.
Lastly, the veterinary/end of life services are truly special. They helped us make the best, humane decision for one of our senior dogs a few years ago and I still remember how much care and patience they had.
Joyce Mileski
The volunteers and employees were so nice, and patient with us. They had so many babies looking for homes. It's so hard to choose just one.
Amera Abdelrehem
Such wonderful staff! I really wanted a private cremation when my sweet companion cat of 16 years passed away, but was unable to afford the service anywhere else. I am forever grateful that I now have a meaningful keepsake to remember her by. They also enclosed a condolences card with the sweetest personalized note inside. The staff at Golden Valley Humane Society went above and beyond to help me feel comfortable in this difficult time. They are so kind, compassionate and caring and I can’t thank them enough!

came in one evening looking for a cat! i went through and found the boy that stuck to me but i’ve never adopted a cat before so i wasn’t sure what the process was. i went to the front to ask, the lady who gave me the answer seemed to be very annoyed i even asked. not sure her name, but she seemed like management? she was very hostile with not only me, but another lady inquiring about a barn cat they had in their shelter. i then decided i was gonna go through with it, the man reading me off all my new cats information mentioned he needed special food and kept emphasizing it was so expensive. i wasn’t sure what he was trying to get at. he sped through all the important information it felt like, but dragged onto all the information that didn’t seem to matter as much. there were a few other employees that i saw in passing that were extremely happy and pleasant. i thankfully got to bring home a healthy happy cat at the end of the day. i just think customer service could do some work. i work with live animals and understand the stress of the job, but can still remain pleasant to customers.
Truly Samantha
Adopted a dog today! Fell in love at first sight. Soon as we got him home he adapted immediately. He seems so happy and I’m so glad we chose this location today. The staff was so helpful and friendly. He loves to play and is such a cuddle bug. Can’t wait to watch him grow! Thank you Animal Humane Society!
Nancy Jacobson
This was just a phone conversation. I was inquiring about vaccine updates. She told me about costs, locations and helped me schedule an appointment just a few weeks out. The bottom line is I spoke with a kind, intelligent, knowledgeable person who cares about animals and the humans entrusted with their care. I recommend everyone uses their services and continues to support their efforts. Thanks for taking the time to let me share my thoughts with you.
Heidi
Adopted Aglet and he is a wonderful little guy. The process was easy, supplies are reasonably priced and they give you a bag of food with your adoption. The ladies in the cat area were kind and patient, the facility has a nice layout and is clean. My daughter and I are very happy.
Kitty Kaht
Because of this place and their sliding fee I was able to get all 3 of my cats vaccinated, spayed and neutered. As well as preventative flea, tick, and worm medication. Without their help was never would have been possible I don't know whether to say fortunately or unfortunately but I am grateful that because I have such a low income I was able to to get my animals spayed and neutered for less than it would be through the SNAP veterinarian program. When it comes to having to surrender your pet they will not turn an animal away. This place is wonderful and it has ALOT to do with the people that work/volunteer their they're a great group of people that really love animals!
3 pics of my kitty kats are attached.
Claire Shaikoski
Nothing but wonderful experiences with this shelter. Whether it be to visit animals for fun or adopt, the staff has always been kind and knowledgeable. When adopting my second cat, the staff were very patient as we asked a lot if questions and were very indecisive. Overall this place cares about animals and families very deeply.
ryan johnson
Together the AHS and I Saved these 2 happy dogs
Elliot Cooper
I adopted my cat, Moon from this shelter. He is the most funny, affectionate cat I’ve ever met. Adopt don’t shop!!
Laura Struck
Really great staff and generally pleasant. The animals seem very well cared for. Took my niece here and she loved feeding all the dogs and petting her first kitty.
Quinton
Nice staff and decent prices for services. Puppy play time is awesome and well managed!
Ryan Zigler
Nothing like I expected; I'm not sure exactly what I expected but it was clean, bright, and very well organized. The volunteers and staff were very friendly and helpful. The "bio" on the animals is very helpful to help you immediately rule out animals that may not be a fit for your family. They offer a decent selection of supplies you will need when you get your new family member home. Their supply pricing is competitive with what you could find at a local big box pet supply store and definitely more than what it would cost online, however we were more than happy to pay a slight markup knowing the "profit" would help them continue to do the great work they do for the community. We picked the perfect kitten for our family (or rather he picked us) and we couldn't recommend the Animal Humane Society more!
selina dehn
We went for the summer camp and my son loved it he always had a fun story to tell. We also got our dog spayed here and they did a good job and had helpful follow up care
Jennifer Gherau
Adopted my puppy last week from here! I could tell she was well taken care of while here. Staff are very nice and helpful throughout the whole process. Recommend checking this place out if you are looking to adopt or even play with the animals!
Jackie Ruhland
I watched a worker open a cage where a darling black and white kitty was resting comfortably, and she spent several minutes loving up the kitty, talking to her and cuddling. It was so refreshing to see this little creature getting love and attention while she waits for her forever family/home.
Jerry Lee
A great place to visit to see cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and of course dogs. Adoption costs about $450 to $500 or so. Some puppies and older dogs. Several adoptions took place while we were there!
Craig Gjerdingen
When we arrived, there was a Hoppy Hour bunny owners meet up going on. It was surreal. The rest of the facilities where great. The animals where every approachable and the family meeting rooms let you spend time with the animals and really get to know them. Also the staff if really helpful, and low pressure.
Sam Dwinell
I adopted lady 3 days ago. She really gets around good on 3 legs and loves to retrieve a tennis ball. Very sweet dog.
Gabrielle Crested
Clean, does not smell like animals. Modern. This is a place that's comfortable for me, let alone the animals who stay here. A bit of a pain adopting animals right now with the pandemic, but their measures are for the best. My SO got a nice cat
Kimberly Williams
I surrendered 2 kittens that was abandoned by their mother and I'd been caring for for 6 months. The staff made the experience comfortable and easy.
Abby S
I adopted my sweet girl, Penny, here about a month ago. The staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful! Such a great decision to adopt 💖 …
Laura Spronk
Absolutely amazed by the staff, the caring volunteers and cleanliness of this facility! Definitely an animal heaven for the animals, placing them first on importance! Our 4 legged baby came from here and would not hesitate to do an adoption again here!
Taylor Jones
Love the humane society. It’s rather hit or miss as to which staff member helps you out, but generally most of them are helpful. They take care of the animals and find them new homes which is what is most important. I got my 2 dogs from them and I had a good experience all around!
Tandychristine Duda
Great! Found a sweet boxer/ pitty mix she came from a shelter in Mississippi she has 3 legs ...I instantly fell in love with her her name is Belle I call her "tinxs" for Tinker Belle.. she fit right in with my 6 yr old reverse brindle pitty Morgan they're bestfriends from the start! Considering a 3rd furbaby now that I moved to my new house on a 1/2 acre in the country...
SuddenlyShort
Everyone is so nice and welcoming. The critters have plenty of space to wander around and any animals with medical issues or anxiety about being touched are clearly labeled. The rooms, where the animals are as well as where you can spend some one-on-one time with them, are well taken care of and clean, with plenty of activities for playing with the animals.
Also a great place to find a solid cat stack.
Henry Mueller
The staff is super friendly and helpful, and they care so much about these animals. It’s where I got my dog!
Vic W
Found my new best friend here! Very kind and helpful people here :) These pictures are of my new friend, Lewis! He's super shy and has found his comfy spot to be under my claw foot tub 😂 …
Nathan Schwartz
Love the golden valley humane society have adopted 2 cats there and the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable would definitely recommend
Brian Olson
Very nice place. Super clean! Got "Jack" (Deacon now) a couple weeks ago. He first had us worried since he was really scrawny and was a little bit of work (litter training and eating) due to his traumatic history before being rescued, but well worth it. He's shaping out to be a fine, lovable, and playful cat.
Ash Winter
This animal shelter is clean, welcoming, and has happy animals. They have visiting rooms so you can play with your prospective new friend, and great staff. If you do meet an animal you want to adopt don't go home to think it over...they have a high adoption rate. Do the thinking before you go and bring your checkbook along 😊 Cats seem to run between $100-300, and dogs up to $600ish? Don't quote me on that I often go just to pet a few shelter pets waiting for forever homes.
kristin Johnson
The staff were so kind and helpful to us and the animals. We adopted our first puppy, he's amazing!! I would have to say its emotional, I wanted to take them all home.
Jaya Agnihotri
We go to puppy playgroup and our dog LOVES it!
Grace
The best shelter you could ever visit. Everyone working from staff to volunteers are so kind. All of the animals are happy and extremely well looked after. The whole place is just so uplifting and encouraging. The nicest sweetest people and pets Best place to adopt from hands down
Grey Boyce-Erickson
We adopted a brilliant and cute 7-month-old pup at the Humane Society. There are lots of dogs, cats, and bunnies ready for adoption. The kennels are clean and well kept. There are a lot of areas to play with the animals you are considering adopting and get to know them. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Amanda Sunnarborg
I love my puppy/dog that I adopted from the Humane Society. This is a great place to adopt. I love that he is a mix breed.
One hint: You have to be ready to get to the place right when they open if you saw a dog online. The dogs go in and out of this place (in a good way), but no matter what you’ll fall in love with any dog that you choose.
Stephanie Jackson
This is the big location for the Humans Society to do their training classes if you want any of the specialty classes. The trainers have been great and so patient in dealing with my brilliant troublemaker dog.
SAMMIE VANN
They are wonderful !!!!!!! I love animals , I was raised with them but they can be costly at times. The humane society helps those who want to love an animal and give he/she a home without charging large sums of money for pet care. It's a win win situation animals need good homes and there are people out here that care but just can't afford some of the cost to keep a healthy pet happy.
I know that the humane center receives most of their funding through donation so I encourage folks to continue to donate even a small amount helps . Thanks so much for the great work of the volunteers for this organization and God bless your hearts!
J W
An attractive and welcoming facility run by a high-quality organization that helps animals and the people who love them throughout the area.
Micheala Boone
I have adopted two animals from this particular location. one cat and one dog. both had problems when they first came to me but after using the free vet visit and free meds, they became the best pets and companions possible. not the cleanest but it's always very busy and they try hard to keep it as clean as possible. It is hard to find help sometimes and the process can take some time.

Today I had the pleasure of interacting with the incredible staff members at the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley and officially adopting a fabulous cat. I've named her Pip. The process was very easy and the support from the employees was tremendous.
Maria Wasnick
Adopted our kitty from here 5 years ago when she was only 9 weeks old, love her so much!! Thinking coming back for another kitten.

My daughters cat was picked up as a stray- they kept him safe and clean and fed until she picked him up. They were very kind.
Mark Schlegel
They were so help fun and walked me through my tough decision of putting down my cat. Everyone was so supportive and caring. Also followed up with a beautiful card
Christina
We unexpectedly lost our pet Mickey during the night last weekend. We drove the humane society and had asked if we could bring in Mickey to be cremated. Sure enough, we could on a Sunday!
What blew me away was the very nice employees, offered us Kleenex’s when we had walked in there!
We drove down to the vet services to bring Mickey in and I was again, blown away! I didn’t catch any names but the staff was AMAZING, so caring, and very nice and understanding.
We had asked if Mickey could be cremated with his blanket since that’s what I wanted. The girl made sure that would happen.
If you want to cremate your pet, I highly suggest the humane society. I will continue to donate, support and adopt at the HS! You guys rock. Thank you so much for making losing a pet some what easier. I know Mickey was in good hands when I left him. ❤️
Kimberly Gagnon-Rix-Sletten
The WORST day ever!! My beloved boomer died of cancer!! He was my buddy and best friend for 14yrs.!!! The staff made a sad day a little bit better! They were kind, compassionate and very patient with us!! Gave us the time we needed. He died peacefully in my arms!!!!! RIP Boomer!!
The Earth Stars
Make an appointment ahead of time...it works pretty smooth. Clean and receptive....there are so many beautiful pets you can adopt and give forever homes to.
Justin Opie
Friendly staff that was attentive to both visitors and the animals needs. The facility was clean.
siewchung wong
Got my Chow chow mix here. Paperwork and adoption process went well. No issues. Staff members are friendly.
Laura Oldenburg
Super impressed with the new process for adoption. Everyone here is super knowledgeable and friendly. They give you so many extras with adoption its amazing. Love that they don't hound you about your living situation or other animals in the home or your vet info, like all rescue agencies do. It was such a great experience. I hope they keep the adoption appointment process post- pandemic. It's 1000 times more efficient.
Rebeca Bernhagen
Got my 2 kitties here and they were very helpful!
Kim Baltimore
I'm being educated on my doggies and I love the way they said to record straight about different breeds
Morgan Gilbert
Got my kitten here and our two dogs. We absolutely love them and the facility is wonderful! Hope to adopt again in the future :)
Michelle R
Super friendly and helpful staff, adopted this lil cutie! However he has some diarrhea issues that they never mentioned...he has an appointment for the vet and I'm not worried about potential prescriptions since they're supposed to cover that anyway, I just wished they would have caught that.
Ajah'nae Campbell
Great place everyone was so nice and process didn’t take long
willis family
Had to say goodbye to my sick pet. Their end of life program is top notch and very inexpensive comparatively. I got a postcard a few days later with my pooches paw print. Awesome service!
Man Family
All of our pets have come from the Golden Valley Animal Humane Society, even though it's not the closest shelter to us, and all of them have been joys. They may be more expensive than some other shelters, but you know that's because they spend the money on taking extra-good care of the animals, and making sure they are prepared to go to homes (including beginner pet owners like we were), and treated as well as they can be in a shelter setting.
Serena Vang
I would like to express the amount of gratitude I have for the staff that helped my family and I when we had to make the really difficult decision to put our dog down. It really made up for our poor experience at an urgent care center the night before. I called the humane society and explained my dog's condition and expressed that he wouldn't be able to make it another night (as closer locations were not available to take him right away) and the worker I spoke to was very understanding and sympathetic and helped me find a location that would be able to help us. We ended up going to the golden valley location, and as emotionally distraught as we were, the staff there understood and very professionally handled it and explained to me very clearly what to expect. I extremely appreciative of the sympathy, professionalism, and kindness that I experienced at this location and I thank you.
Shauna Rose
Awww... If I had land and was adequately, financially able.. every animal would come home with us! I've considered joining such a rewarding, dedicated organization and add to the compassionate, strong and welcoming team. Being a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2013 holds such honour and sincere gratitude.
Matt And Cars
Little Spud here trying to learn some new tricks! Buy a Beagle they said..... It'll be fun they said...
charline ariza
The lady on the phone for the other building was very rude. smh. work on that. other than that the VET people r very great. love it here.
BBK HJ
We took home our kitty from here. He's the best cat I've ever met 💜 …
Darla Hickok
They are very attentive. My friends dog had surgery, they called before to confirm what they were doing and once she was in recovery. They were very thorough with aftercare instructions.
Dean DROSMASO
Great facility for rescued animals and great place to fine your next pet! Clean, well cared for animals needing a permanent home.
Pathias Moyo
When we got there, we only saw 3 cats and 1 was on hold. I was happy because it means people are adopting them. The place is clean and staff is friendly. Also, they have Fare for All once a month.
Jeanie Watts
We adopted our sweet Bastet from the Humane Society. They do a great job making sure you're prepared to take your new pet home and that you have everything you need.
Jennifer Hachfeld
We had a great experience picking our new family member!
C Shelton (Zerocool)
We adopted our beautiful cat there. Great addition to our family.
Cory
Friendly staff, helpful with answering questions about adoption.
Gina Giombetti (Mama G)
The Animal Humane Society is a fantastic place to come and see dogs and cats that are trying to find a good home and today I donated a lot of dog food may take bags that are unopened. Donations are a plus so that these organizations can help feed the animals. I enjoy donating and seeing the animals.
Sarah Halby
I’ve been volunteering here for a couple of years now. I love how passionate the volunteers are in serving the dogs, cats, bunnies, birds and more that come through the doors, as well as the families who are looking to give them a forever home.
Caleb Nelson-Lange
I've gotten all of my pets here. The staff is always amazing and helpful!
Corey Buhl
Got a cat here a few weeks ago. She is great. It is also nice that they have rooms for some cats instead of cages.
Norm and Donna Buchta
It was a wonderful experience. They were very helpful and kind. We found our 'Buddy' and are very happy and grateful.

I had to let my fur baby go. These people were so very kind and respectful. Our whole family went into a private room with him so he could gently just go to sleep. He was my emotional support so I have another baby now also purchased from here. I couldn't be happier. The adoption process was personal and no pressure to even choose one. Looked at three and took home number three, my Fancy. I have done vet visits here, shots, nail trims, everything. These people are the best!!!!!
Marc Dockter
This is easily the best Animal Humane Society location. Always clean, well-staffed, and the animals appear to receive genuine care while they're there.
Ali Haverstock
Our family bought our 1st pet dog there. I was about 8. I am 62 now. Since we found so many homeless dogs, we didn't need to buy 1. Finally our precious Bandit went to Heaven. I had to go alone, as my son, Whitney lost it at the shelter looking for dogs. Said he would never go back. The staff was caring of the folks looking for animals, and genuine love for animals was the entire atmosphere. Love, joy, and animals waiting to be loved! Love this place!
Alexis
We adopted our baby Jinx here and we will be forever grateful to them plus all of the staff were so sweet!
Zach Huemann
Classes are great and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Allie Bergman
best decision of my life was coming here 2 get a cat😏 …
Brianna Bacher
This is a great location. We adopted our pup from here and it's obvious that the volunteers and workers love the animals and care for them very well. Conditions are clean and the animals are always happy.
The training classes have been extremely beneficial for training our pup. We love this location. Very friendly and helpful people!
Da Black Pearll Warren
This place is amazing took my puppy to her training class and she did very well and the trainer was awesome with my friend. Wouldn't train anywhere else. Next up puppy kindergarten
Jacob Orina
I went to the Animal Humane Society in golden valley and it was a great experience. The staff were friendly! It was not to crowded. and an original adoption appoinment takes 90 minutes and it only took us 30 minutes! The rabbits we adopted are doing well and very nice! I would reccomend adopting any animal here!
Kimberly Sletten
RIP my Boomer!!! Thank you to the kind staff who made an exception for my daughter and I to be with him till he passed away! We are so grateful and thankful for your kindness and compassion during that horrible day!!!
Stephany Vassar
Love this place. Brought our pup in to be spayed and they were so kind and gentle with her. Great communication with us during the surgery. Felt like a personal service. Would totally recommend their vet services!
Ryan Fisher
They do great work! Everyone there really cares for the animals.
Lisa K
Nice, clean facility, friendly staff, animals appear well taken care of. The only downside is having to make an online appointment because it's nearly impossible to get in when a pet you really want is available. Appts are usually at least 3 days out and it seems, because of Covid, everybody wants a cat. You can't get in fast enough to get the one you have your eye on.
Gaisma Pugasevich
The facility is very clean, the staff accommodates one on one time with the potential animal, and there is a variety dogs and cats. Different ages, breeds, etc.
My brother and I went through the process of adopting a dog, however, the process was a bit challenging in the sense of limited information. The shelter encourages adopting but don't have any process in place to test whether a dog is good with cats, has any behavioral issues, no fostering options etc. They provide you with the final details when you are going through the adoption at the very end (for example, more details on background, who the animal was picked up by etc. vs having that information out) and there are no refunds.
I wish they had a better system in place that would encourage finding an animal that would fit the family best vs. encouraging adoption as a whole.
Hong Her
I don’t know if any veterinarian’s office is able to meet the current demand for services, but AHS does what it can and for a low cost. Neuter appointment only costed us $70.
Kelly Snaza
Love this place when feeling lonely for a pet. They also appreciate the extra help. Great place to volunteer some time for the animal lover. There are many great animals that will make someone a great companion. I think prices are a little high but they are healthy and up to date on vaccinations and in most cases are sterilized to reduce unwanted pet population.
e skopp
They offer the best trap-neuter-release program around. They're very professional, kind, courteous, and they treat strays with as much respect as anyone's pets. I highly recommend supporting them and their mission.
Thomas Maxwell
We set up an appointment and came in all the people were very nice to us and helped us out. We found a new addition to our family. Everyone there was sad to see their old friend come home with us but happy that he can now have his forever family.
Lana Vincent
The staff were very friendly and professional (especially considering the stressful new challenges they are facing with COVID restrictions). The facility was clean, from parking lot to entrance. Both technicians I interacted with were incredibly knowledgeable and I could tell they had taken good care of my pittie pup! Fantastic facility with staff who do wonderful work!
Joe Dibley
Very good selection, most animals seemed well groomed and cared for. Process to adopt was a little slow and confusing, but not too bad.
Casey Briskin
We boarded our blind and deaf 20 year old cat at Animal House in Golden Valley. They took excellent care of him. The staff was very responsive to his special needs and very patient with all of my questions and instructions. They called when they noticed an issue and followed up within an hour to let us know that everything was fine. I loved the daily text messages-worth the extra couple dollars- that were detailed and reassured me that our old boy was receiving excellent care and attention while we were on vacation.
Kevin Vold
I adopted my dog here. The staff are sweet and helpful, and they genuinely care about your adoption experience. The dogs are well-cared for.
Erik Tietz
I adopted one cat from here 7 years ago and unfortunately donated the body of a different cat to science here. Both times the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Victoria Oliversen
So much hope offered here!
This facility is very high traffic. If you want one of the pets here, you better hop on it fast. Kittens and puppies are hardly there for an hour before becoming adopted.
I enjoy this place because I know that even the "forget me not" pets are likely to get adopted.
The facilities are also very clean and the volunteers are very nice!
Mark Dahl
I gave this place 4 stars because, to me it seems like they genuinely care about the quality of life for these animals. The volunteers are very helpful and caring as well. Also the golden valley location is in the process of experimenting with a new style of containment/play area for the dogs. My only draw back is the prices on some of these animals. Especially for the mix breeds. I would think they'd price them a bit cheaper to get them in to homes a little faster. But all in all, a great place. We bring our kids there at least once a month to visit the animals.
Clothing_ Saver
All of the staff was VERY NICE!! Clean facility and cute little rooms to play in with any of the cats or dogs! Some cats and dogs were sick with a cold so they have their cages clearly labeled and were strict on hand washing! :)
****However, we are first time cat owners. We do not have any knowledge on caring for a kitten. The information that they gave us left us very confused and concerned. *****
It would have been nice to receive a few brochures on cat behaviors, feeding, hygiene, etc.
We did receive a coupon booklet in the packet of paperwork. The coupon booklet was at Chuck and Dons that had a bunch of AWESOME free stuff! don’t get the cat ID Tag at the shelter because the booklet has a free tag! (Free big bag of litter, free cat litter scoop, free big bag of food, free bag of cat treats, free can of food, free glitter ball, free lid for can Food!)
John Williams
We stopped by to see the animals at this location hoping to find a dog and cat that we could bring home. They have lots of cats and kittens available to look at but many of them were on hold. The dogs looked great and there was a fair amount to look at but again many were on hold.
The facility was very clean and well laid out, the people working were helpful and friendly. It is well worth the time to stop in and bring home a new friend.
Lynn Leitte
This is a really nice facility. It's clean, has rooms for meeting the pet outside of a cage, toys to interact with the pets with, and plenty of staff to answer questions and help. We adopted two cats, both of which were treated by the vets here for illnesses they had when they were surrendered. Kudos to the vets for taking skilled care of them and restoring their health.
Alysa Delgado Misfeldt
The Animal Humane Society is a great shelter with helpful staff. We just adopted a dog from there, and the resources available to new adoptions are great. Staff take the time to explain everything about your animal and the resources available that you need. Plus, it's helpful to be able to buy any supplies you need right on site (and the profits benefits the shelter!) I've visited many shelters, and this one feels less sad than others. Definitely recommend going even if you aren't looking for a new pet, the animals love the attention.
Deborah Kemp
My daughter and I stopped in for possible puppy cuddles. This facility is very clean and so organized. Great employees that make animals in their charge a priority. Not so many puppies this day but always happy to support this great cause. Many dogs were on hold for adoption. Yay!! Easy access for all, lots of parking. If you don't find a furry friend, they take donations of animal food, supplies, money. And they don't mind if you just want to hug a dog or two.
Mary Splunker
This a top rate shelter. We got our lovable kitty playful and happy and very vocal. The staff is excellent: On adoption day they answered all my questions. They gave me lots of good information caring for, medical, and past history.for our kitty. I got the impression of a very warm and caring and going the extra mile dedicated staff. Also the wonderful volunteers the attention time and caring they give. I was very impressed.
Casey Palmer
We adopted a 1 year old rescue that came from Leech Lake Reservation. the staff at Golden valley were all extremely professional, helpful, knowledgeable and patient. We also have done obedience there after getting their dog and the trainers are 10/10 amazing and have helped us in every way imaginable. Such a wonderful place!
Robert Perkins
These people are GREAT!! I FOUND a new family member! A 2 mo. old white bulldog with personality and friendship. What a blessing!!
Michelle Timme
Amazing friendly staff. If you see a kitten you like online.. be prepared to wait in line before they open. The kittens go fast and honestly if you wait even an hour to come see one you liked online it will be gone. Staff are volunteers so if you have waited in line outside before opening make sure to head right to the cat area and tell a volunteer you are here to visit whichever cat you saw online. Otherwise people will cut in front of you and there is no system to keep an order of who was waiting first. It did take us a week of visiting everyday waiting before they opened to finally adopt a kitten.
Derek Arnold
Great place. They really care about your animal. I adopted my dog here 10 years ago. I had to have her put down here a few weeks ago. She was a great dog. They were so nice & understanding. Only cost $90 to put her down & cremation. Great price, since everyone else wanted $250 - $300 !
Margaret Sch.
The good: I have faith that the people who work here, both staff and volunteers, love animals, enjoy people and believe they are doing their best. However, the kitten I adopted last week has been sick since the second day. My vet faxed a prescription to the humane society as they have pledged to fulfill prescriptions if they have the prescribed meds in stock. Now I am unable to get through on the phone to find out if and when I can pick the meds up. I don't want to pay my own vet instead unnecessarily nor do I want my kitten to continue suffering any longer than necessary. In the future if I adopt animals I intend to do so directly from families caring for them in homes. However, if you have a heart and want to rescue the animals at the HS that otherwise are stuck in cages, then you may still want to consider visiting this place. The volunteers who helped me were very personable and respectful.
Christopher Terhark
My wife and I went on a spur of the moment. We didn't adopt any animal but had a great experience. Like with any place you adopt animals, it can be sad to see them look so lonely. But, this place was very lit, the animals looked very well taken care of, it was very clean, they had special areas for animals that didn't mix well with others and also animals with certain infections. The staff was helpful.
If you are looking for a place to adopt an animal I recommend checking this place out.
Anjolie Lo
I got my family a cat from here. The volunteers were incredibly nice and they genuinely cared about these animals. I had a staff member help me find a really good match for my family and our cat fits in great! They gave great care advice and sent us a little postcard last week
Joann Follmer
Friendly staff, great prices on vet services.
Natalie Steenrod
Their vet clinic took great care of my bunny for her spay. Very pleased with them!
Elaine Hiller
Very friendly..we were running a few minutes late but staff was understanding and very accommodating. We had 3 kitties taken care of and we are very grateful.
Ssndra Durheim
My chocolate lab had come from huricane Katrina many years ago and needed much work to train. She went into training and passed good citizen class and from there she worked hard and became a certified therapy dog. She was loved by children, adults, and my other cats and dogs.
Thank you animal humane society for rescuing Molly. Through hope and love we made this dog bring happiness and
friendship to many.

The people who volunteer here are kind and you can tell that they are passionate about taking care of their critters. The adoption process doesn't take long and you really can't complain seeing as you'll soon have a new member to the family. It's easy to say that they take good care of the animals since the potential pets/babies are happy, calm, and have a full belly. I'll always cherish this place since I adopted a puppy from here and she's been doing great!
Pastor Phillip Dailey
Love this place!!! They do a good job of taking care of the animals in their care. The only issue I have is the cost of adopting. It's about $375 minimum for a dog. But I do think that they use the money well and have really serious expenses. But not everyone has $400-600. They should consider payment plans, especially if you are a repeat adopter.
Cole Gilbertson
Helpful people in a hard time never easy giving up fur babies
Lex Larson
For those looking to adopt an animal in need of a home, the Animal Humane Society is always my first choice. I've been adopting animals from AHS for 40 years, and always have gotten wonderful pets.
Sarah Dellwo
We were seeing the vet in the lower level. Highly recommend for people who need an affordable option. See their Website for qualifications. The vet was super interactive and friendly! So much so that we did forget to address one of our three concerns! LOL! I was able to talk to them by phone and we will be seeing them in a couple weeks for spay surgery.
TeQuila Hollins
Amazing place to go pet dogs or if considering adopting the have the best dogs. Lucy was my favorite dog there. She so well behaved and will do just about anything for a treat. I love it. She's doesn't have too high of energy just the perfect amount. I enjoyed my whole time being there, barely wanted to leave.
Laurina
Extremely kind and compassionate staff. I had a 12:35 appointment last weekend to put down my cat. It look me about an hour to crate him and by the time I got into my car it was 12:30. I called in a panic, but the lady rescheduled me for a 2:10 appointment. When I got there around 1:00 they were able to see me right away. The two ladies were extremely helpful and treated my cat and me with a lot of respect. It was extremely hard for me, but the process was more comforting knowing how well we were taken care of.
Maren Ott
Got my older girl kitty here. Staff were friendly and thorough in the adoption process. The building was very clean and bright. I wish I could adopt them all! But the animals seem very well tended. I go in now and then just to cuddle some animals. It's a beautiful place to get your furry friend fix.
Adopt, don't shop! Remember adult animals are grateful and loving pets!
George DePhillips
My husband and I adopted a puppy at Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley on March 21. We adopted a second puppy on April 23. Both experiences were wonderful - quick/easy and also positive.
The puppy we adopted recently came to us with an upper respiratory infection. This is understandable. AHS paid for the antibiotic, which although expected was appreciated. However, they would not pay for the antibiotic for the first puppy we adopted, even though the second puppy from their shelter gave it to the first puppy. They advised they have a 2-week rule for paying for medication, and that the first puppy was adopted 5 weeks ago so he's not eligible. I'm not surprised as this is how corporations almost always behave. However, I will say that I will not be shy about messaging this to those I know, to encourage them to consider other options for adopting animals. Accountability is important, and it doesn't seem to me that AHS holds this same value. I would also encourage AHS to revise their guidelines to pay for medications that are needed as a result of an animal from their shelter. Is the $20 worth the bad press. Apparently so! Kind regards.
RESPONSE TO ANIMAL HUMANE SOCIETY'S RESPONSE from MAY 7. There was no "expert advice" provided. Not only did AHS not inform us that the puppy was sick, they did not advise us that they recommend not letting the dogs meet until any sickness has cleared. Their response yesterday was a canned response intended to get folks to still support them after reading reviews like mine. I can see past the surface-level attempt to dismiss my feedback in support of a rosier picture.
Whitney Haverstock
How could I not give a place that saves dogs 5 stars? Dogs are the best people ever. God bless em.
I can't spend time in there though or I start crying about the dogs looking at me all sad and PLEASE you guys, keep that inventory moving for me.
Seriously.
Dogs are my emotional kryptonite.
I'd rather spend all day visiting the burn ward of a childrens hospital than 10 minutes in that place
-has been my very dark joke for this. Since bawling my eyes out in the car outside the place, last time I was there.
My buddy pointed out that I would not indeed 'do well'.
Stupid empathy. 😒

I had to give my kitten away because my mom has asthma it was one of the hardest things I had to do. But the employees at the society were so kind and reassuring. I could see the animals were well cared for when I went up to the floor. It's a good place to adopt dogs and cats from, and I know my Fabia will be well taken care of!

My family and I just lost our family dog of 7 years. Our children were heartbroken, so we went to the humane society to see if we could find a new furry friend to help fill the void. We were there two days in a row and the staff worked hard to help us find the perfect puppy. The staff were kind and sympathetic to our situation. They also fearlessly protected and loved the animals. They gave us an amazing coupon booklet to Chuck and Dons pet shop. Our original total at the pet shop was $200, but we only paid $60. We used all but 3 coupons. The humane society also gives you a free bag of food and complimentary pet insurance for 30 days. In addition, the process was thoroughly explained to us and you get 60 days to decide whether your pet will be a good fit or not. Lastly, you also get a free vet visit and 30 days worth of free meds. Which came in handy because our pup caught kennel cough while being there and after spending $400 on him we didn't have much money left until pay day hit again. Awesome experience.
Update: our little buddy Leo didn't work out. He was pretty unknowingly aggressive with everyone in the house. He was only one and spent most of his time in a shelter. We ended up finding out that our son in allegeric to his breed and his allergist suggested we not have any dog at all. You don't get your money back after purchasing, so that sucked, but I was able to sign my voucher over and get a little of my money back.
dobbie
great service, friendly staff and a quick adoption process!!!!! i was searching for shelters for a long time but none of them near me had good reviews. i would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a little friend to adopt
Hannah Giersdorf
The Golden Valley location is big, clean, bright and welcoming. There are plenty of people on staff; it was easy for us to find people to answer questions we had about the animals. It took no time to find someone to let out one of the kenneled cats so that we could pet and play with him in one of the rooms they have set aside that let you do just that.
We found a very sweet two year old cat and when we decided to take him home an adoption specialist sat with us to go over all the history they had for him. They talked to us about why he was brought in, gave us all the information they had about his life prior to coming to the shelter, all the medical care and tests he'd had while at the Humane Shelter. We got a little bit of counseling about bringing a cat to a new home, and we were able to buy toys and litter right there.
The little guy is already cuddling with us on the couch. Highly recommend!
Karen Bright
Friendly volunteers do all they can to help you visit as many furries as you'd like. Love the hold policy, giving you some think time and get the family to visit and be a part of the adoption process. Efficient adoption process with plenty of opportunity to ask lots of questions with the knowledgeable staff. So happy with our new fur friend! Thanks all!
Justin Gerber
Amazing shelter with great staff and volunteers. Highly recommend visiting if you are looking to adopt an animal.
Desmond J. Huff
Very nice workers and various dog breeds.
Baylee Miller
My family has purchased four cats and they have all been the greatest pets. They all have come home with worms however, that don't show up until about a week later, so they always need medication and a vet visit. Otherwise, the pets always seem loved and well attended to, and the workers are always very friendly and will often chat with you about the pets available for adoption.
Mary Calva
They were kind and compassionate with my mother-in-loves dog. They also gave me grace when the snow storm made me 25 minutes late for the appointment.
janesa putnam
Love this place. I love the dogs. Very clean environment
Jill LS
We adopted a bonded pair of Guinea pigs as companions to our other Guinea pig that loss his bonded friend. He was so sad but we didn’t know if getting another Gp would make a difference. Thanks to the help of the HS staff and website information, plus lots of online research on bonding and some luck they bonded. They have their own spaces to take breaks but truly enjoy each other’s company.
Leah Lynch
Sadly I had to help my baby cross to the Rainbow Bridge and they were so helpful and understanding. They took good care of my baby and she went comfortable and in peace. Getting a sympathy card along with ink copies of her paw print help with the pain of losing my baby. Getting her ashes back in a timely manner really helped as well. Thank you Animal Humane Society of Golden Valley for helping me and my baby at such a difficult time .
Kathleen Bloom-White
We love the humane society. They do great work! We regularly foster dogs and critters for them. They are very supportive of their volunteers.
Matthew Corey
We were interested in a dog. This Humane Society makes it easy to see and meet the dogs. They let you walk them if you want so you can get to know the dog a little. They seem to take good care of all of them.
Brandon Wesley Strain
Brought in a stray kitty.. They were very awesom
Chris Carlson
I got my cat Charlie from there 8 years ago. He is now 11, fat, and happy! He's wonderful to have around. We got another cat after him that we have had for 2 years from Pet Smart, and they get along well. Nothing more than a little play fighting. Me and my family visit there every once and a while to comfort the animals, and they are always awesome! The staff is amazing and by far the best shelter I have been to. Thanks for the great memories!
Sherrill Ridenour
We got our little Cali who had frost bite ears. She has grown to be a very loving but curious little one. She has to see what is going on all the time. She is our 3rd kitty from the human society, we just love reducing our babies from here.
Victor de Meireles
They offer a wide variety of dog training classes in a group setting. Trainers are very thorough and helpful.
Nikki Devries
I shared a great amount of time with each and everyone of the animal's. I had a concern about one of the dog's and they addressed it immediately.
Darren Betker
Be warned: It is nearly impossible to walk in here without adopting a little companion! The staff here are incredibly helpful, and will reassure you if you're having doubts - and will be up front if they don't think the type of pet you chose is a good fit. I had intended on adopting a dog who was at least 1 year old. I left with a puppy, after talking with 3 separate staff about the work involved, and signing up for classes before I left.
Dianna Lyng
I use the vet services such great staff always friendly and my pets actually love to go there. My one dog had some skin tags and 2 masses under her skin she 6 and 2 were just that tags and the 2 under the skin masses were malignant tumors which they got it all with surgery so grateful since im on ssi its affordable cuz it is all based on your income i will continue to take my fur babies there
David Roettger
Always a nice place to go and have real interaction with cats and dogs that are at the animal Humane Society. The staff are all volunteers but they are nice friendly and helpful and they seem to enjoy interacting with animals. They'll always tell you which ones have kennel cough or some other disease so that you wash your hands thoroughly before petting other pets
Jessica Loe
Love going to visit the animals when the kid and I have free time. The staff & volunteers take excellent care of the animals & cleanliness of place is incredible. Adopted all our pets from here and will continue to do so. They have obedience classes available to for dogs. Alot of different activities they put together. As in 'Walk for Animals' in summer etc...
John Barcomb
Great place to find your next companion! Very knowledgeable staff along with programs to help you with training your new pet. They also have an advice line if you need help.
Jesse Kortes
Very professional facilities and it's so easy to just stop by and wander the kennels. Act fast because they have a quick turnaround.
Laura Finstrom
We adopted our Lucy here in December of 2016 .The staff was so friendly and super helpful in giving us as much information about Lucy as they possibly could. She has been our best pal since we brought her home, and she is great with our cats as well. The place was clean, and there was lots of volunteers there. When I get the time, I plan to volunteer there.
Megan McGrath
Tagged along with a friend to look at dogs and ended up taking home a kitten for myself. She's been with us a week now and is doing so great, getting along with her big brother and loving her new life. I didn't know I needed another cat in my life until I met Minerva (formerly Frenchy), but now I couldn't imagine my home without her.
AHS made the adoption process painless - everyone there was so helpful and excited for every animal going to their new home. Great information included in the adoption packet, and you get an awesome coupon book to stock up on food, toys, and other necessities at Chuck and Don's, which is already my go-to pet supply store. Facilities are clean and well-maintained, and volunteers and employees are all great. Overall a fantastic experience. Thanks, Animal Humane Society!
Morgen Bauer
Over the past 2 years I have gotten 3 animals from this location(2 cats and 1 puppy). One of my cats ended up getting worms, but the humane society paid for her medication. I got a 3 month old puppy from this site who was very skinny, but is now doing amazing! This location has a very helpful and caring staff. Had help from many people picking out our cute babies! I only had a problem with one lady there who was very rude! She was extremely against us getting 2 puppies at one time. She was very disrespectful about saying we wouldn't have time for two puppies, let alone one. In the end we listened to her by only getting 1 and I truly wish we didn't listen to her by getting both puppies.
Hanna Diaz
Adopted my most recent dog from here. He is my ESA, and has completely turned my life around. There weren't many dogs here when I came, which is a good thing, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. You are taken care of and are given all the information you could possibly need. You also gain a best friend.🌻 …
A Bith
Wonderful people working there and very customer friendly. Very helpful when picking a pet for there forever home. I recommend that people looking for a pet stop in the AHS and see what's available. I'm sure that you will fall in love with one or more of the pets looking for there new home. We fell in love with 2 cats and they are enriched our lives.
Adam Yousef
My girlfriend and I have been looking to adopt a dog for a few weeks. we had spent a ton of time searching online, finding the right one here at the humane society. When we finally stumbled upon the perfect dog daisy and went in to meet her. When we went in all the staff we spoke with were amazing. All willing to help us with anything that we need. Will be recommending to all friends and family looking for a pet.
Kara Dahlberg
Great place doggie training classes! The trainers are very experienced & the class times are super convenient to fit in my busy schedule.
Dennis G
We adopted our beloved Sammy fifteen years ago from the Animal Humane Society, he went to dogie heaven in December. We have been looking to adopt another pet and have contacted many rescue sites finding them to be an exercise in frustration. I have been back to the Animal Humane Society several times and I know one of these days the right dog will find me, and then I know I will be ready to have a dog in my life again.
anne coffman
We arrived an hour before closing with a certain dog in mind to adopt after looking on their website. We knew by the online description that she was the perfect fit for our family. After a short visitation with our pup, the staff worked quickly to get our adoption processed to allow us to take home our newest family member that evening. Nice staff & volunteers! We are so pleased with our new dog!
Dylan Johnson
The adoption process was all around pleasant and painless. Everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable as far as training tips and helping animals integrate into their new home. Plus, since we got a two month training pass for adopting a pitbull mix, they extended the pass for a week since we couldn't attend a session due to our dog being sick.
I would absolutely recommend this location for both adopting and training!
Deanna Lynn Poling
I'm so happy with them. The staff was very friendly and the vet helped me with all my concerns. It was a little bit of a wait and I got there at 9am. It's first come first serve but for the price it's worth it. They're was some confused when I called the day before about location so know the vet care is only at the Golden Valley location. They also do teeth cleaning and hip xrays here. There services are available to all veterans.
Shawn Kingen
We donated 7 Bluenose pitbull puppies in Feb. 2018 and needed to get the mother spayed. Around East Central MN the costs were $400+ with shots. After donating, we made an appointment and it cost us $108 with shots. They did a wonderful job with her, and recovery was smooth. Excellent employees, teamwork and fabulous place for adoption and donating. I highly recommend this place!
Emma Teal
Visited with the intention of finding a dog for my friend to take home with her! We had a nice experience being able to meet the pets. They had a lots of pets there, and the staff was always willing to let us meet any dog we felt we were connecting with.
Malory L
I got my kitty there years ago, she was three. Now she's like, 12 years old, still cute, fluffy and in love with food.
My other cat was one when we got her, and though she has terrible breathing and nose problems, she's still here too. And it's not the shelters fault, it happened way after we got her. But they were nice to us, and our cats are amazing.
Jer R
Very nice, caring staff, and a good facility. I love all the cat rooms! I found my Rhee kitty here about 5 years ago or so.
*My wife and I just adopted two orange sister kittens yesterday and they couldn't be more cute if it were possible! SO happy to have found a pair, which must be somewhat rare. Golden Valley is such a good location.
Kricket Langendoerfer
I love the Humane Society! The animals are all vet checked, neutered or spayed. They have all their shots, including rabies. They also give you a bag of food. Pet Shops many times are gotten from pet mills. Check them out online! The only way we can stop this from happening is DON'T BUY PET STORE ANIMALS! You can look t their prices, a couple hundred dollars, then look at Humane Society, sometimes a couple hundred dollars, but no worries about spay/neuter, which can be a couple hundred dollars.
Have fun searching for your new family member. 😺😺

Best dog training. Thank you Nick, Maggie & team. My dog new dog likes you more than he likes me. 😂 …

Just adopted my first dog from the Golden Valley location and it was a great experience. A staff member ended up recommending the dog that I eventually adopted and she's just wonderful. My only suggestion is they could work on the communication between the volunteers and the staff. It was a bit clunky and confusing at times. But I highly recommend the Golden Valley location.

Wonderful staff..veterinarians were spot on.
100 % trust in all...
Nick Dobie
We adopted a puppy from them unfortunately he didn't get along with our other dog. The Animal Humane Society was amazing at helping us through the return process and ensuring us that sometimes returning the animal is the right thing to do. It was nice that they also gave us a voucher to adopt another animal.

Best shelter I have EVER been to. Always trying new and innovative things to make it seem like less of a "jail" for the misplaced pets that are housed there. They have a few open rooms where the cats/ dogs can interact with one another. Their staff (which are mostly volunteers) are always courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. I have even seen kids birthday parties hosted here. No joke. They also have an excellent obedience program for your doggo. Ours isn't quite a K-9 good citizen yet, but he is way better than he was previously.
Daniel Steffano
I dropped off a kitten here after finding it at a construction site. I was willing to pay money to have it be sheltered or any fees necessary as I believe The policy stated something like that. The staff was ultra nice and took the kitten without requiring me to pay. I hope that kitten is doing well
Kristine Ryan
The staff was amazing in helping me adopt a wonderful cat!

We adopted our dog a couple of years ago, it is a nice facility. We board our dog here when we go out town, they take good care of her. Sorry they are discontinuing boarding but great place to adopt a pet.
Tiffany Brunello
Staff was great! My puppy was a rescue pup from alabama. Not even 24 hours after we brought her home she had bad diarrhea. . Found out she not only has worms but kennel cough too after $500 in vet bills. I know they can't predict that, though, and I'm happy I have a rescue pup. I love her and would still pay the extra money to have her. I'm thankful the HS takes in pups that need a loving home.
Laura Troftgruben
Lots of animals to choose from and this shelter. Lots of puppies, cats, and other small critters like bunnies and such. Nice variety if accessories to choose from as far as leases, food, liter etc. Have gotten one cat from this shelter and one dog, both were great experiences! Staff are helpful and friendly. Best chance for puppies/get the dog you find online is to get there right away when it opens in the morning.
Jenna Johnson
I love this location because they have cat rooms where you can go & hold/pet the kitties without having to stick your fingers through bars (though they do keep some cats in the traditional cat kennels you see at many animal shelters).
They recently got a dog room where you can pet dogs not in kennels as well, though I haven't gone in there yet. Last time I was there they had 1 dog in there, I think it's still kind of experimental. Most dogs are kept in the same fashion as other humane societies. Make sure to use the hand sanitizer between petting dogs so you don't spread kennel cough, even if the dog doesn't look symptomatic!
They also have bunnies & sometimes ferrets, rats, mice, birds, hamsters, & guinea pigs. I've never seen any reptiles there. The bunnies are often in a big open-top enclosure so you can pet them if they are out of their igloos-- so soft!
Overall, the place is clean and the animals are clearly well taken care of. I really like visiting the animals here.
Raiden Lorge
They have wonderful animals here, the staff members are friendly and willing to help us out.

Golden Valley loc is the only one I've been to, but the staff and setup are pretty top notch. Especially love that this location has a room they unleash a handful of dogs in so guests can interact with the animals and witness their demeanor around a variety of people and other dogs.
Nathan Anton
Really great volunteers and employees. We were there later in the day and the animals all seemed exhausted. They said they had adopted out a tin of animals that day so it was kinda good to see the place working. Definitely the place to go for a pet. Lots happy cats and dogs that need families.
Irene Fink
Had my puppy spayed today. They took great care of her, answered all my questions. Great price.

Love the AHS. Only complaint is that A) there wasn't many dogs this time around and B) pricing of said dogs. But those aren't actual complaints because regarding the fact that there aren't as many dogs, I'm actually happy about-means those sweeties are getting adopted! And that makes me happy!! And regarding price...I understand that it costs to caregiver, shelter, Medicare, upkeep, clean, pay workers, vet services, etc. Also, prices that are decent or more hefty ($100, $300, $500, etc or whatever the applicable price for said specific animal) keep creepy a-hole psychopaths from buying dogs and flippin or baiting them.
Clean place (for housing animals), nice staff, informative help, adorable animals....love it!
Megan Kors
My husband and I came for a look and fell in love with the newest member of our family! They made it so inviting and easy to find the right match. Not to mention any questions you have or help you may need they are right there the whole time. I couldn't imagine not having our kitty now that we have him.
Emma Raven
I respect the AHS for the work they do in providing animals with a safe place and medical care. Very cute animals that are fun to play with. However, the spaces need some work. Constant aroma of pee everywhere makes visiting uncomfortable. The volunteers are extremely unfriendly and do not know much about the animals when asked for suggestions.
Lesly Idk
It’s good I hope my gunieapig Wilma and Betty are together 😕 …
Emily Rippeto
Extremely clean with friendly and helpful staff in the dog section. There were a couple workers in the cat section that seemed a little judgy- like I knew nothing about cats.
The only other downside was that all the dogs had to have this thin muzzle-like leash on them whenever they leave the cages. It obviously irritated the dog I was walking greatly and was WAY to tight!
Other than that they had a lot of workers that were constantly taking the dogs out on walks and even the puppies cages were very clean.
Anthony Leo
Awesome place for a displaced animal to find a great new start!! The staff and volunteers demonstrate their commitment to the betterment of the animals lives they touch. One of the best shelters in the country serving 10 of thousands of animals each year with a 91% positive out come rate.
Dillon Dudley
Amazing, friendly, caring, and easy to work with. You can tell they really care about their animals. Every year they host a walk, which you can adopt an animal temperarily to walk and play with them. Otherwise you can bring your pets and meet others. There are also games, music, and other festivities. Best idea ever!
They have more dogs than what you see on the main floor. If want a large dog you may have to ask to see them and they will take you to the large dogs.
Robert Howey
Even on a busy day they were able to help me pretty quick. I explained what kind of cat I was looking for and the volunteer I spoke with pointed one out to me. I checked out a bunch of other cats, but ultimately decided to adopt the first one. The volunteer sure knew the cats well. Thank you for pointing Beaker out to me.

5 years ago, my fiance and I adopted our cat Turdle, a Tortoiseshell, from Golden Valley Humane Society. She was named Betsy there. She was advertised on their website as the cat everyone looked past and no one wanted. We came looking for her and left with her. Aside from normal, but annoying cat behaviors like sharpening her claws on our boxspring, she's the best cat I've ever had, hands down. She's affectionate, playful (she plays fetch!) and just beautiful! I'm glad they took note of my sweet baby's potential and voiced their concern over her not having been adopted yet.
3 years later we brought home our lab/pit mix, Ellie, formerly known as Starla, from Golden Valley. She was 3 years old and full of energy, but had pretty severe anxiety and some aggression at times. They didn't know much about her as they had just received her from Alabama. At one point, being that this was my first dog, I had considered bringing her back. Whenever I needed help or had questions I was treated with respect and kindness by the staff at the Humane Society. They talked me through ways to deal with her anxiety and recommended different things to try to help her, but said they'd always be willing to take her back if I couldn't handle it.
Today she's a different dog. She's gotten used to the cats, she walks well on the Gentle Leader that they trained her with, she's no longer scared of me, my fiance, our close friends or family. She still has anxiety at times and is weary of other animals and new people, but I'm also more aware and informed on how to help her and how to approach situations that trigger her anxiety and fear-aggression. I knew from the moment we brought her to the car that she was a sweet, loyal, loving dog. She just needed help and with the assistance of the Humane Society, I was able to give her a forever home.
Thank you very much for everything you guys and girls do for our furry friends! A little compassion goes a long way!

Having to euthanize a beloved 4-legged family member is a heartbreaking decision and process. Choosing Animal Human Society in Golden Valley made it a more bearable experience. From calling the Pet Hotline to schedule and checking in, we were met with kindness and empathy. Our Vet Tech, Tiffany B. could not have been the more perfect person to help our Jake out of his misery. Before the peaceful ending he received while looking into our eyes and getting his petting, Abby came in with a fluffy blanket for him to lay on. As excruciating as it is to say goodbye, having two people who care and support you is invaluable. Three days later we received a sympathy card from Tiffany with a beautiful message, paw and nose prints included! So cherished and appreciated. People in the veterinary field may be some of the most humane humans in the world. You have our gratitude and eternal thanks.

This is a well run humane society. They do a great job of adopting out their animals. They often take in pets from other shelters and find homes for them. If you see a pet you are interested in, be sure to get there right away, they get adopted quickly.
Anthony Peacock
I really love this place. All the people that work there is very intelligent and loving and caring. They go out their way to make sure that you get all the help that you need and to take very good care of your cat dog or any type of animal that you may have thanks again to the Humane Society

I was pleasantly surprised by the size and layout of the building. Dogs and cats kept away from each other to reduce stress. There is also an area for the other critters who are in need of homes. We went on a Friday to go see the animals and was happy to see so many animals spending time with potential families. I also got to see Nutter Butters the bunny go home! There were so many puppies and dogs. I only gave it a 4 star due to how sad the dog runs made us feel. The staff and volunteers were great though and were available for questions! Also its great to have so many wash stations/ hand sanitizers available!
Anika Parsons
I think they do a great job at serving their community. I also think they have some wonderful programs. I am not impressed with their work when it comes to ensuring an animals health before adoption, and then continuing to help after adoption. I have adopted three dogs from here. One tested positive for heartworm, the Humane Society said I could return him or pay out of my own pocket to fix it. I obviously fixed it, although, they should have. He also had a severe case of giardia and it would have been obvious to any vet who had actually taken the time to see him. A very good friend of mine adopted a puppy who also had heartworm from them and they were told the exact same thing. I still think adopting from them is okay as long as you take your dog to the vet and have all of the tests that should have been run on them in the Humane Society, ran on them again. I don't like that they take the word of partner shelters testings from days, weeks, or even months prior to tell them whether or not the animal is in good health.
MJ Wilmes
Adopted our newest addition to our family here, our beautiful kitten. They let us spend lots of time getting to know him and answering all our questions. They also have been great with the follow up care he needed
Jason Lempola
I had a very difficult decision to make with our family dog. They were very professional about it all and sent us a very uplifting card during the time of sadness. I look forward to the day we get along dog and work with them on that side as well.
Kelly Sanches
They do amazing and important work! Just adopted our 2nd kitty from there this week and we so appreciated all the education on how to introduce cats to one another. Very friendly service too.
Todd Shiber
Great people here that care about animals. They do great at getting animals adopted in to good homes. Best thing is, animals do not stay here long as the community is great at adopting them right away. I will do my dog food shopping here to help support rescuing pets.

Found a -sleeping? Cat next van in the early hours. Had husband move it after it didn't respond to "kitty kitty", because I had to leave and didn't want it to freak and run under the tire when I moved the van. Came back 40 minutes later. Hubby put cat on a towel in a box, and it was no better. It cried out in pain, arching its back, spasmed...but mostly shallow rapid breathing. Definitely in pain, we thought poisoning? There was no way time and TLC would fix this. My vet wouldn't look at it, especially gor euthanasia, because ut wasn't our cat. They referred me to Humane Society. Had to kind of make an appointment. But because of the tenuous nature, they called around and found who had availability. I went to a building, a door, called a number (argued with someone about how I'm not just trying to get rid of a scrappy cat, this one is for real SICK-lots of legal mumbo jumbo when one wants to surrender a stray), lady took my card, asked me if I wanted to make a donation. I said I'll be more likely to make one if I know you can help me. (I agreed to $15) It is $50 for surenduring a stray. I said I already went through this, my vet wouldn't take it and to call you. She said, well they would have to hold it 5 days. I said this cat doesn't have 5 minutes, and it's probably already dead. Oh! That got their attention. She took my card and the cat and said she would be back. When she came back she said I brought it to the right place. Said while it was still breathing, it's back may be broken (still being examined) and it had no chip. But will still put a post out for the description and that someone surrendered it. She put my donation towards the actual fee, and made a major discount. I get it, I bet people try to dump off strays thinking the animal will die- eventually, and it's a nuisance. But once she actually saw I WASN'T just dumping the cat, I wanted to help it...then came the compassion and understanding. Not a happy morning, with only satisfactory results.

I appreciate everything the humane society does for our furry friends but I believe I was misled when I recently adopted a cat from the Golden Valley location.
On their website under the 'Adoption Fees' it lists everything that the fee covers. Feline Leukemia is also listed. The cat I adopted was never tested for it and I found out he was positive for it when I brought him to my own veterinarian. My cat also still had tapeworms (which is quite common for strays) and I purchased a brand of dewormer I trust to get rid of them.
The day I adopted him, he was in a room all by himself so I am wondering if they did know he tested positive for FeLV and decided not to put it in his chart so that wouldn't deter people from adopting him.
This is all speculation but I expected better.
Don't get me wrong, I love my cat (and won't be returning him) but I just feel the humane society might omit certain things to ensure an animal gets adopted. I was hoping to adopt a feline companion for my boy in the future but now that seems less likely.

Adopted a dog that I adore!!! Humane Society foreverrrrr
Monica Calhoun
I'm a fan! Two of my animals were adopted from the Golden Valley Humane Society. I went there to donate food and check out their gently used merchandise. I found a few things I needed and a cute bandana for my cat.
Sheila Morgan
Great experience adding to our family. Everyone was very knowledgeable
Bree James
Great photos and such, I just wish that they wouldn't show pets that have already been adopted when you search for available pets.
Douglas Gawtry
I love the turn around in this place. We went here and then saw that the dog my parents were looking for was in the Buffalo location. Checked back in with the Golden Valley location and almost every dog we saw that day had been adopted. Amazing... finding homes for that many animals in one day.
Lisa
Wonderful place. Nice people. It may be a little expensive to adopt a kitten but for an adoptable adult cat it's not that spendy. Plus they make sure all the animals are in good health and can be socialized with someone. Some are very afraid at first but think of what they have been through and eventually they can be the most loveable animal for your family! This is the place to go if you are looking for a healthy loving pet. I would give 10 stars if I could!
Rachel Zubrzycki
We were able to sit in a room with 5 puppies and pet them and play with them. We were also able to pet dogs pretty successfully through the chain link fence doors of their cages. The dogs were all very sweet.
Mathew Somlai
We go monthly, keeping our hopes up to adopt. Haven't connected yet, but the staff are wonderful, and the kennels and cages are always immaculate. Lovely private rooms to really engage with each animal as well and see if you are a fit.
Katarina Hanson
My mom had to put her 18 year old cat down😢. We went to the Animal Humane Society just to look and found a handsome orange and white 5 year old male. He was surrendered because his owner couldn't care for him anymore. We were also told he liked bananas as a treat! The staff there were so sweet. …
Jerry Personius
We dropped off our two parakeets today for re homing. Staff was professional and answered all our questions
We can go to a web site and follow them to their new home.
Mat Pfeifer
I liked this location a lot. Except there were a lot of senior citizens on staff that didn't seem to treat me and my friend very well. We're both 23 and look a little different, but that no reason to treat us like second class citizens when trying to adopt an animal. I ended up going somewhere else to adopt due to this.
Christine Schmidt
100% Focus on what's in the animals Best interest.
Awesome Facility...!
Wendy Olson
Got my latest furry kid here in 2007. Enjoy dropping off fleece tie blankets and fleece tied rope toys for all the furry littles at AHS when fleece goes on sale at JoAnn's.
Diane Hale
The wait was a little long, because it was very busy, but once my dog was seen, the Vet was great. She handled my senior min pin wonderfully. The prices are very inexpensive.
Lindsey Ulrich
We had a great experience here! Lots of animals to look at, helpful volunteers, and a knowledgeable staff to help first-time pet owners like us feel comfortable and confident. It’s a well-run operation and well-kept facility, even during the busy time that we were there. I would absolutely recommend!
Teri Ahlm
We have gotten 2 cats and a dog from the Animal Humane Society over the last few decades and have found them to be a phenomenal institution. I highly recommend adopting pets instead of shopping for pets - there are always adorable little fur babies waiting for a home!
Corey Harris
Nice place. We have adopted multiple animals from here over the years. A little disappointed to see the adoption fees getting so high. 4-600 for an adult shelter dog might be a deterrence for new comers to make the leap of adopting an adult animal rather than going with a breeder. When we adopted our adult Boston mix there years ago we adopted all of her. Dog/cat aggression, post abuse anxiety, separation anxiety, eating issues, etc. We love her to death but she was already damaged goods and mostly untrainable. She is mostly over the separation anxiety and is a sweet dog but we also have a lot of patience. I sure hope all of these expensive dogs are getting placed.
Ben Adams
Good place to adopt a animal good staff
Sheri Hausfeld
Friendly, understanding staff!!
Sympathetic to your emotions if dropping off an animal.
Works with your schedule to drop off or pick up. Always Loving animals to greet you when you go to adopt 🙂!!
All around Super place!!!!
Melissa Chazen
Adopted my dog from Golden Valley Humane Society and they made the process smooth. I went in just looking at dogs while still deciding if I was ready for one. I met my dog and knew pretty much instantly that he was the right fit for me. At that point I knew that if I didn't adopt him right then and there, I would regret it. I told them that I wanted to adopt him, they got everything set up for me and got his surgery scheduled for sterilization for the next day. I picked him up two days later and he's been wonderful since.
Prices were well worth it. They paid for the first vet visit as well as microchipping and any medications he needed from the kennel cough he had.
Jessica Manthey
Got my very good boy here and volunteered at a different location while in college. Really enjoy all they try to do for the animals while they wait for their forever homes, especially at this location. Hopeful other locations can get a revamp as well! The staff here is a hit or miss.
Andrew Hill
We visited for a 'Hoppy Hour.' It is a time for people with pet rabbits to get together and let them play.
Over all it was fun and seemed focused on education.
The facility seems well taken care of and clean.
K C
Thank you for helping my heart heal with the latest addition to my sweet family.
Scott Dentz
First time i had been to the animal humane society in Golden Valley since they remodeled the entire facility. I think if you want an animal in your life there's no better place to get one. Friendly staff and huge rooms full of cats and dogs, kittens and puppies that are desperate to be adopted out and get a chance at a happy life outside of a cage.
Samantha Baker
Norbert and I completed Reactive Rovers 1 last night!
What an amazing experience it was!! We tried a class through a different organization and it was just awful. Instead of helping Norbert, the teacher asked us to leave class. At Reactive Rovers, I felt the teachers all truly took time to get to know and understand Norbert, and then individualized the class based on his needs. He wasn't always able to do all the activities due to his stress level, so at the end of every class I was always anticipating being asked to leave or being told it wasn't a good fit. Instead, the teachers were SO patient and championed even the smallest of progresses that Norbert made. At the end, I was truly in tears with how much that meant to me. These ladies have a true gift and I HIGHLY recommend their classes!!!
Sarah Hughes
The night of adoption was fantastic! It was after we left the Humane Society in Golden Valley that we are still dealing with!
When you adopt your are adopting an animal that they presume to have a clean bill of health. Our puppy was vastly underweight (and she got a perfect score of 5 from the Humane Society). She had kennel cough that was never diagnosed properly and then in turned into pneumonia and the puppy almost died! We also found out that she was healing from a rib fracture that we were never told about. We are not even 2 weeks into having our puppy and our vet bills keep accumulating. I have tried to email the facility, but have yet to hear back! And did you know that the best solution they will give you is to surrender your dog - we can't help you otherwise. Sorry .. not a solution I am ok with!
Corey M
Have gotten numerous family dogs here. I've always adopted shelter dogs, they are less expensive and I'm saving an animal. I hate that the paperwork takes forever here, but I figure a minor inconvenience is worth the money I'm saving. Means more treats and toys for the pet.
Kate L
Great experience, helpful staff. The adoption process was very smooth.
Upton King
Golden Valley. This facility could use some love. The stone leading to the front is loose and a danger. There is not a single glass plate/ metal framed door that does not clang shut behind you - it will scare the hell out of you, so imagine the animals. Staff is great, well meaning, but in short supply. The place was frantic and anxiety inducing. Clueless parents and children run rampant. I felt sorry for the staff and even sorrier for the animals. So... Why the five stars? Because their hearts are in the right place and they do the best they can with what they have. We, the community need to step up to the plate. Donate. Give generously. A contractor needs to man up and fix those doors, fix that walk way. These people do our community a great service. For their sake and the sake of the animals... Do your part. Donate!
Andrey Mamnev
Great place to adopt your pet!
The Humane Society of Golden valley has a big selection of pets for you to choose from. Going in there I assumed it would only be cats and dogs, but I found the cutest Bunnies and birds as well.
Great place to go if you are looking to adopt.
Brenda Oberle (Drdoolittle)
I've been volunteering in different ways for over 20 years at the AHS. Weather it be taking home a shelter animal or doing the AHS Walk for Animals & have raised close to $ 6,000.00 with the walking of my 2 Pigmy Goats. Well, I saw a car toss out a box onto the road Sat. night & when I got closer I saw it was filled with kittens of all ages. After 2 hrs I'd collected 6 of what I could catch. Its a though time for me right now but the shelter took the kitties for me after about 8 days of having them. Its a extremely clean facility, organized, professional, but most of all the employees love their job & the animals in their care. I recommend to everyone! Go check them out when wanting your next pet or try to help out with your donation.
amber kirby
Took great care of my girls, friendly staff. ❤ gave all options and answered all questions beautifully. I definitely recommend, you can tell they really care.
Molly Zupon
I bought the best little kitty from the Humane Society. Thank you for such a wonderful companion!
Jesse James
It was amazing there was lots of happy animals
Devon Lundy
Amazing work they do here. There are also so many facilities and programs that are not seen by the general public - I highly recommend the back-of-house tour. They take extra care to acclimitize their adoptable animals to their potential new homes, it's to everyone's benefit. I want all the dogs, all the time.
Teri S
We did the walk for Animals today and had a great time.
Lots to see and do, shopping, eating, a great band and lots of mingeling with other pet lovers alike.
So good to see so many people out for a fantastic cause.
Kimberly Mueller
Great staff, clean cages, and the animals seem happy. We found our newest family member and I absolutely love him. The adoption process was a very easy process.
Steve Rawlins
Professional, caring staff. Yellow apron volunteers there because they love it. Well though out program for "purchasing" a pet. Adoption fee includes some vet care should your pet need it, which is wise and humane.
Rachel Lense
I've been volunteering with the humane society for going on 3 years now. They're a wonderful organization that truly cares about animals and people alike. The Golden Valley location is excellent, in particular, because of all the activities they offer there outside of just adoption: puppy kindergarten, puppy playgroups, dog training (both individual and group classes), Hoppy Hour for bunny socialization, plus the Animal House Boarding location is literally attached to the building.
AHS has really done an outstanding job working with the local community to create a space that's bright, fun for all ages, and effective even after your pet finds their forever home. ♥️
Ana Alarcon
It was the first time that my family and I adopted a puppy and it feels great!
Jessica Fields
They definitely understand that you want to hold and hang out with a few pets to decide. They're low pressure and also get it if you need to return a pet if it doesn't get along with others in your household (not something we experienced but they have a policy for it). We went on a Saturday and it was unpacked. Go on a weeknight if possible.
Devon Dodge
All the cute doggos, cats, and other little fuzzies in a great clean facility where the staff and volunteers seem to care for them. AHS also provides some really great comprehensive classes and resources for caring for adoptees as they move in and adapt to their forever homes. 10/10 come visit happy animals in a clean and loving environment.
Epsilon Peters
It is the best animal shelter in the Twin Cities.
Terri Kellett
I'm going to give them 5+ stars for their compassion and caring for when I had to put down my favorite 15 year old cat, Runner. The love that they showed me and the understanding of how unbelievably difficult this was, I am still so grateful for all they did to make it easier!
I want to adopt a cat and can only go through them because they love animals and their staff is the best!
Thank you so much!
Carol Peterson
They Saved my kitten's life--during the Covid virus--help--not-essential--
They did the surgery--& on the road to Recovery--tried 3 Emergency clinics--no help--
Highly Recommend--staff was very Knowledgeable--explained after care

Mr Save A Buck
I enjoy coming here because its always very clean and the people are always so kind, friendly and helpful here.Wish I could save all of the fur babies.I don't mind purchasing items from here because they don't charge you a arm and a leg like other places.
Emilee
All staff except one were very rude, she threw the dogs around and yanked the leash of a dog out of my hand giving me a rope burn because I wasn't 18+. Everyone had said it was ok for me to walk the dog, and she got dangerously close to me with another dog, and the dog I was walking didn't like other dogs and she new that, it hurt me to watch he drag a little dog dog around by the neck. Overall the place is amazing, but I would recommend some air freshener in the cat room
Jessica Dietrich
Love the Humane Society! They are a wonderful organization! I have my pup in Puppy Kindergarten and the instructors are great, friendly and knowledgeable.
Dianne Wilson
I adopted my new baby. Formally known as Cali. We named her Nala yes from the Lion King. She is a doll. She is such a good girl. Only 5 months old and today is her 4th day home and virtually potty trained. I am so happy we found each other. The staff and volunteers at the Golden Valley location made this process seamless. Aubrey helped us and she was great!!. Yeah we are so happy with our choice even though we are worn out from having a new pup around, she is totally worth it!!!
Leanne Larson
Best place to find your new best friend!
Kelsey Wotzka
The volunteers are always eager to share more about the animals and to help you find your perfect pet. I've been a number of times with various family members as they adopted pets and when I'm ready for my own, I know where I'm going!
Tara H
Date/Time of Visit: 08/10/2018 approximately 7:00PM - Very large facility. More than just dogs/cats. Has animals sectioned off in different areas of the building - cats vs. dogs vs. puppies vs. others. Dogs were in the back so the barking wasn't disturbing your visit with the cats. Some cats are in cages, others in colonies. The socialization rooms had glass doors so you could see other people interact with the animals. Plenty of items for purchase. Overheard some workers/volunteers complain that they were short-staffed.
Jessica Johnson 1177 (Jes4Fun)
Was looking for a place to take my dog to get spayed that was affordable, I definitely found It! Staff were friendly though since Kindest Cut shares a space with the Humane Society you need to be a bit assertive to get someone to help you, but once the come out they are great!
Gamer Girl
i got my dog here .
He seem really skiny and later we found out why.
Most of the staff seem very helpful .
they gave us a free dog mini box of food and told us he ate that but later we found out that he really did not like that food.one thing that i liked was that we got his birthday and breed.

When I am looking for a pet, I go here first.

Pricing is decent, I was there yesterday there was almost no animals but that just means they all went to good homes. Clean building, friendly staff

Love our beautiful boy we adopted from here. He had trauma but they offered us incredible free service to assist with the issues. Thank you for Winston!

It was very busy when Hubby adopted Damsel for us in late December. She is now (mid-February) much longer, heavier with a glossier all black coat. Her name is Rhiannon (Night Queen) and she rules our home happily. Thank you so much, everyone. Next we come to you to adopt a small dog. ❤

I love my kitty I adopted from here. I had to do some serious negotiations with my Mother over the phone before I could take him home. And they still let me adopt despite it being 20 minutes to closing time.

We were able to go in and pet the last cat they had available today and set up a time to pick her up.

Great place to take the kids and we got to meet some Vikings players. What a treat!!!!

We had come there 2 years ago to look at a Bombay cat that was up for adoption. When we came in the door we were stunned by this poor, weak, and yet stunning beauty of black cat with orange eyes they named Martha at the time. She had just been moved to the adoption floor and had finished her antibiotics that morning.
Now she still had a cough and sneeze. I've dealt with a lot of horses, cows, cats, dogs, etc over the years. I know the hazards from sales barns and the like. My other cat managed to get a cold and he had his for almost 2 weeks. She was over her coughing within a week of bringing her home.
My only real complaint is that the staff hadn't noticed she wasn't able to eat due to her underbite from the starvation she had gone through in the place she was rescued from. We did get her started on kitten food, then moved her to adult canned mixed with hard in 2 weeks. She gained weight. The vet checked her over, and she was fine.
Now Martha--named Citlalmina--is the queen of the house. She slaps my hemmingway around if he gets out of line. She still has to have soft food supplement to keep her weight up.
To people saying the adoption fees are rediculous. I paid very little for her and she is chipped and spayed. I can't complain. They let us spend a LOT of time visiting with her and we even visited with a camera crew who had been there.
I am going back tomorrow for another pet. I was happy with the experience--and I've seen other humane society locations that are a LOT worse!
Without air conditioning I'm not sure about boarding there if we go on vacations. May just have family come stay with the cats.

Went to go pet puppies after a funeral, and met the love of my life. Everyone made the process of bringing her home easy. Ruby (now Stevie) is settling in perfectly. Having free training classes available is an amazing resource. Facility is clean, employees are fantastic- I can not say enough good things.

Very nice and friendly my dog doesn't go to other people but he went right with them. So I know he's in good hands

I am not an "animal person" but it was not so bad visiting yesterday. I went to bring the 10 year old twins I nanny in the summer. We saw all of the animals. After a walk around the girls wanted me to ask a volunteer to get a room so they could visit with bunnies. This had me a little spooked, but again, it wasn't so bad.
I think the nicest part was that one employee recognized the twins and remembered their names from camp last year. That's pretty impressive considering how many kids go through their doors.

Adopt, don't shop! This is a great animal shelter with loving staff. We've been fostering cats for them for 6 months, and have grown to love their staff and appreciate their mission.

Let me preface my review by saying the staff at the AHS facility I visited were all extremely helpful, friendly, and obviously cared about the animals in their care and finding them a loving home. They are the main reason why this review rating is not lower.
I adopted a cat on the 30th of April and was told the conditions of her surrender and whatnot, she was surrendered by her owner due to incompatibilities in the household.
I get home and read through the packet of information regarding my new companion and come to find out that she had been rescued as a stray by those who surrendered her. And those who'd had her mentioned she had had kittens.
This didn't faze me at the time but when I took her for her free veterinary checkup the vet noted that they had not run bloodwork on her testing for FIV and feline leukemia. After a phone call they said they do not test for these diseases in owner surrendered cats, only strays due to their significantly higher risk. And they would not reimburse for the test being done.
What frustrates me is it is clearly noted by her previous owner she was a stray for the better half of her life AND she had at least one litter of kittens. But simply because she was owner surrendered these tests were not run despite her higher risk.
It feels underhanded and dishonest to me. Following the letter of their rule rather than the spirit of it.
I urge anyone who adopts from AHS to be absolutely certain they know the entirety of their potential adoptee's history before making their decision.

Very friendly staff, made adopting a dog quick and easy!

Great place to adopt a pet, they genuinely seem to care about the animals and their welfare! Ive adopted several pets over the years from the humane society and have always been very pleased with the process and staff.

This is a great animal shelter. They treat you and your animals with respect, quality care, and they give you the time they you need to ask questions, to decide, and to finalize any decisions made. I will return there to get my next pet.

Hello Fellow Animal Lovers! I adopted my 4 legged girl puppy dog named Maggie/May on 1/20/16 after losing my Old Boy of 11.5 years. I went here because I know they do the very best job at vetting the animals for disease, and aggression issues and all with Love & Compassion always showed to the animals while doing it:) I picked out a 1/2 Golden & 1/2 Lab puppy who had just come in that day with 4 siblings from a Oklahoma Shelter, what a Joy she has been in my Life, full of P&V and not afraid to show it! I would highly recommend any of our AHS sites because they all serve our communities for our Animals & Humans Greater Good. My dog Maggie agrees and says,,, WOOF< WOOF< WOOF:):):)

Good friendly and most importantly kind. Understanding and gentle staff. Will tell you when your rehomed pet gets adopted. I couldn't of asked for a happier solution for both me and my former chinchilla Kuzco. Love u forever you sweet fluffy ball baby! We're both in happier places, I know it. XOXO

They do a great job but they discontinued their boarding and I'm not driving to St Paul to their other location to board my dog.

Great place. Found a black lab mix here a few years back and really enjoyed the adoption process. Everyone was very nice. Gave me a lot of time and patiently answered my questions.

Eight years ago I adopted Greta there. She was 7 months old and a stray from Oklahoma. She was precious and a perfect dog. I had to put her down because her immune system was destroying her her red blood cells. She was near death and gave both my husband and me lots of kisses. I'M looking to adopt another dog from you.
Robert Elsenpeter
Helped my friend who had limited funds to care for her pet. Showed genuine concern and provided professional care.

I volunteer to walk dogs here just about weekly. A lot of hard work and love by volunteers and staff go into making this place happen. The door is wide open for any dog, cat, rabbit, domestic rodent, ferret, hedgehog, or small bird. Stop in and take a dog out for a stroll or hang with a cat.

I brought my beloved boxer to the Golden Valley AHS after he had passed away at home. I brought his body there to be submitted to their morgue for cremation. The staff was so wonderful and caring in my time of immense grief. I thank them for their kindness, patience, and respect for me and my baby boy.

Have checked out the shelter animals. Very clean place. Just sad 2 c so may animals that don't have forever homes. Wish I could take them all home w/me. They also have low cost spay & neuter clinic 4 those on assistance. Just show EBT card or medical assistant card.

Still the best place to get a companion pet! You can go to one of many "rescue" groups and be treated like crap, or you can go to AHS, be treated like a human being and have ALL your questions answered honestly by very friendly animal loving people. People who also understand the reality of caring for and loving a companion animal.
Eddi The Rabbit
Very Great Shelter!!!! I come here every other Sunday for Hoppy Hour (a very fun rabbit event) and alwase look at the animals there. They are alwase so happy and healthy!

Was there today to have our beloved kitty put to sleep. Vet was so kind! Hard parting with our Wilson, but she was so compassionate, that helped take the sting out of it. Thanks again, Marian

Went for a Saturday play group. Our new puppy had an awesome time.

Did not adopt during my visit today, but was able to look at the available dogs and spend time with 1 in a seperate room. Outside temp today was 90 degrees, and it was hot inside where they keep thd dogs too. They said it was too hot to take a dog outside, so they had us go in this tiny room that felt like a sauna! We were sweating..the dog was panting heavily..none of us wanted to hang out in there for long. Also, the room has a big glass window from floor to ceiling looking out into the area where people enter the dog kennels. Lots of people, employees, volunteers, and other animals passing by which was all distracting the dog youre trying to visit with.

I am a dedicated supporter of the Humane Society in Golden Valley. I have been the proud Momma of a boxer mix and 2 cats that I adopted. They have been the best pets ever.
Aaron Newbloom
They do good work. I wish they would be more selective about who they sell to (if that's allowed?) I saw two separate groups trying to take an animal back but they were "past the return date and needed to make an appt." The people were talking about how they couldn't afford the animal. Probably never should have been sold to them in the first place.
Marcie Nelson
Had to give them 2 cats & 1 dog 😥
The lady was very nice, come comforting & respectful. …

The Animal Humane Society is a wonderful place. I adopt all my animals from there

No one seems to know the animals temperament. Does it get along with other animals? Is it housebroken? They don't have many dogs. I think I'm gonna try the Golden Valley location. Wish me luck!
marjory thomas
They were as helpful as they could be not really to full of pets
Aliyanna stewart
They had such cute puppies. They are really busy but so organized. They handle each animal with care and every guest with kindness.

I had to put my old boston terrier Buster to sleep. It was very emotional and the staff were very understanding it was tuff but the woman employee helped me tremendously. 10 days later they sent me a card in the mail with Busters paw print it was very heartfelt I would love to Thank them very much.

We brought another couple there to look for a small dog. Even though they had no luck, we were very impressed with the clean conditions and the care of the animals.
Thank you volunteers for the jobs you do.
Jeff Nowak
Over the years, we've adopted two dogs from here, and last week two guinea pigs. A great place to find new family members of almost any size.
Eddy Rice
Always a great place to visit with the kids. Most of our dogs were adopted there however the fees have gotten a bit crazy. We re-home now from Craigslist for a fraction of HSUS.

One day we came home with McBuck the Super Dog and our lives became more full. Full of laughter, excitement, and a dog with a ton of personality. Thank you for being great and connecting us with this canine that is very much a part of our family.
Nick Zajac
This place is the best. You can stop in and play with cats or dogs and maybe end up bringing one home! They also have a great dog training staff that I used to help train my pup.
Jennifer Voss
Adopted a cat from here last month. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Be prepared for the adoption process to take 30 to 60 minutes. The cat we adopted - Hunter - is pretty friendly too!
Jem Stark
Very basic kennel and services. No grooming or bath or anything like that available. Staff seemed very flustered and rushed. There is no AC in any of the boarding areas. I will definitely not be taking them there over the summer again.
Mel the depressed enby
An amazing place were they take good care of the animals the only thing that would make me like it better is if I could volunteer but I'm to young also if there was one in St Louis Park.
