Dr. Murphy is the best! We bring our two dogs here and she's so nice, knowledgeable and clearly an animal person that knows how to interact with anyone and anything. We moved to the suburbs but are still coming back to see her because she's that great. Have had basically no issues with the vet at all (dog issues, yes, but that's why we bring them there) and are happy to have found such a great place. Arya says thank you for the cone, I hope I don't have to wear it for very long!

This place is amazing! Our dog Candy was always so scared to go to her last vet, but she's quickly warming up to them here! Staff is super friendly and very attentive and knowledgeable. They usually spend a few minutes with her just petting and giving her attention so she feels comfortable. Not to mention the treats! It took a long time to get into this vet, but it's absolutely worth it!

Very friendly staff and efficient appointment! I was in and out quickly with my cat for a vaccination/regular checkup appointment. The vet was very gentle and patient with my cat, who is very nervous and shy, and made me feel comfortable as an owner. They also took the time to talk through some suggestions and advice, without being pushy at all.

I transferred my cats here from Medford Pet Clinic and thus far I'm very pleased. Medford Pet clinic is definitely an affordable option but Porter Sq is much cleaner, larger and more organized and has a more professional vibe to it. The vet was incredible with my cats and even had my super skittish kitty relatively relaxed. The appointment was quick (25 minutes for 2 cats) and they caught some growing health issues in my older kitty that Medford Pet Clinic never told me about. They also showed me the issues so I could see myself that they were present which is reassuring when the cost is so high. I feel much more comfortable paying a higher cost when the vet is so reassuring and outwardly knowledgable. Like others have said they are the opposite of pushy and when told my cat had a murmur and two bad teeth, the vet didn't press me to make a decision or make it about money which I really appreciate.

Absolutely LOVE Dr. Parker, and everyone at Porter Sq Vet! Our miniature schnauzer has been a patient since 12 weeks old. Now at 14 and a half, we will still drive for an hour to see Dr. Parker, because we didn't find any local Vets in our area that were at his level. His very calm and gentle demeanor coupled with superb veterinary skill keeps our loyalty. Our pup has been through quite a lot in her life, and we feel that treatments are always appropriate and well explained. 5 stars all across the board!

Can't say enough good things about this place. Easy location in Davis Sq. Great caring staff. Been bringing my cats to this office for almost 15 years. I tried going to a Vet office closer to my new home (North Andover) once I moved out of Somerville. Wasn't the same so we went back. Place is always clean which is helpful if you have allergies.

Heads up, they geenrallly have a long wait for new pets, so if you’re looking to go to them, I’d call them and get in the line like now.

I've been taking our golden retriever to Porter Square since we got her as an 8 wk puppy one year ago. I've seen a couple different staff members there and am most pleased with my interactions with Dr Moderi who was warm, enthusiastic and patiently answered my many questions. To my knowledge they are very fairly priced (I noted this in reviews when I was shopping online for a vet). I've had a bit of a hard time keep track of all of our pup's first year medical needs and PSV has been available to answer my questions and keep me on track. They also handled her spay a few weeks ago during the pandemic/quarantine and I was impressed how they managed as much as possible over the phone and email (and she's fully recovered without incident.) Local, friendly, attentive, accessible, affordable.

Our cats have received top quality care here over the years. However I think this clinic has not been able to scale to its own popularity. Appointments are hard to get, phone hold times are lengthy, calls are not returned, prescriptions take forever to fill. In particular the front office is understaffed, and customer satisfaction does not seem to be their primary concern. I’ve gotten better service at the RMV! My wife insists on taking her cat to Porter Square; however my own cat has received the utmost care and attention from Heal on Belmont Avenue in Watertown MA.

I am extremely satisfied with Porter Square Vet's service. Even during the pandemic, they are so reliable, quick to respond, professional, and kind. From the front desk to the vets, everyone is so competent and receptive to your needs. I particularly had the pleasure to work with Dr. Parker for an international pet travel certificate to travel during this particularly challenging time. My destination had particularly difficult requirements with a very tight schedule and both Dr. Parker and the front desk were always so prompt to respond and so helpful in every way imaginable. I always felt like my cat and I were in good hands. They made an overall really cumbersome process much much easier and less stressful for me. I recommend this vet and these hard working professionals to absolutely anyone and everyone!

I have a new puppy but lots of experience with vets when I was growing up with dogs. First, the positive. Our vet seems really great: compassionate and attentive in addition to being a skilled practitioner. Now the bad: some of the front office staff are insufferable. Example. I ordered heartworm medication from an online RX, which required vet approval. Approval was declined. I called to find out why. At first the office staff told me I ordered for the wrong weight range (too large for my puppy). I explained that my giant breed puppy was at the top end of the smaller weight dosing range last week (21.4 lbs, dosing range 11.1-22.0 lbs), so she will easily be in range next month. Staffer= insisted she had already canceled the order, and that I should order for the smaller weight range for which they have official record. I said that position was ridiculous; my giant breed dog has almost certainly already grown into the next dosing weight range (22.1-44 lbs) and asked to speak to the vet. Put on hold. Staffer came back to ask for my message. In short I said the instructions to purchase the smaller weight range were ridiculous. Hold. Staffer came back to tell me that the order had been canceled because my dog will outgrow the larger weight range I ordered within 6 months. Wait, what? First I am told that I need a smaller dose, then I am told the dose won't be large enough? Further, there is an easy remedy for if my dog does outgrow the weight range: double the dose. Looking at the concentrations of the active ingredients in the medication between the weight classes shows that they double. Easy fix to the possible problem. Did the staffer suggest it? Not at all. So my assessment is this: come for the vets but be aware that some of the front office staff should not be dealing with customers.

Dr. Parker and the Porter Square Vet family have given our pups excellent care since we moved to the area ~1.5 years ago. From routine check ups and picking up supplies, they have navigated the pandemic with grace and patience, always keeping their clients and staff safe. Additionally, the care Dr. Parker and the team provided as we navigated a sudden cancer diagnosis for one of our boys last month will forever be appreciated. They made an incredibly difficult situation much more bearable with their calm, knowledgeable, and empathetic approach. Thank you for all your team does for the community!

Best vet I've ever been to. Owned cats my whole life and this place is the only vet I've been to where I've never felt ripped off. Right now, I have one cat with a lot of health problems, and everyone at Porter Square Vet (usually see Dr. Parker but this goes for the other vets too) has been sympathetic and supportive. They offer me all my options, with price tags, and I never feel judged when I don't want to go for the most expensive course of action. The cat needs an expensive test every 6 months and I called around to about 10 other places; Porter Square Vet had by far the cheapest price (by $50). They are great at last minute appointments (I've gotten one same day every time I've called). The vet techs are all awesome; the clearly love pets and take great care of my animals. I get my cat's medication refilled there and it's always ready on time. My cat needs to be given meds 2x daily and I found an amazing pet sitter (Marilyn) who works there. Any time I've called the office with a medical question about my cat, one of the vets has called me back within a day to answer me. If I had to complain about anything, it's that parking can be a little tight but I've always found a space within a block. I can't say enough nice things about Porter Square Vet!

We have an anxious dog. We’ve brought her in for a few different things here (ear infection, echo, checkup and vaccines). They’ve done a wonderful job keeping her as calm and comfortable as possible and delivering great care. I’ve taken her to other vets in Greater Boston and outside the state (NYC, Bay Area) and find the prices here very reasonable as well. We’re excited to have such a great local vet!

We've been there twice with our new pup so far and we've loved it! Our pup loves it too! The veterinarians are very nice, knowledgeable and patient in answering lots of new dog-parent questions. They handle the animals with ease, and our pup responded to them very well. The receptionist are also really great! They love the animals, remember them and seem quite knowledgeable. In fact, one time I called to ask a health question about my pup before I could get an appointment, and the receptionist was very calm, helpful and had some safe and harmless suggestions for what I could try and symptoms I should look out for (unlike an extely alarmist response I got from another vet clinic I tried calling!) So far we're glad we picked this one!

Dr. Johnson is amazing. She took care of Holly, my cat, with such kindness. She took the time to talk to me about her and her health even when they were so busy - in the middle of a pandemic through the phone! I can be a crazy cat mom but she made me feel so at ease. Been coming for here for years for all my pets, and for the most part..they’re great! I really like Dr. Murphy. The Only thing I would complain about is one of the girls that work at the front desk is a little rude. Everyone else is extremely pleasant to be around. They handle my pet nicely. A little pricy but that’s all vets. I would give 5 stars, but the girl working at the front desk turned me off.

Love these guys. We've been taking our cats here for about 5 years now, and every doctor we've had has been professional, courteous, and sensitive to how emotionally challenging it can be when you have a sick or dying pet. The location is also very convenient and usually you can luck out with the metered parking in front of the building.

A couple of weeks ago, I took my two cats for their annual exam, which had been postponed due to the pandemic. They had nice routine for accepting & returning pets back to their owners. They also asked me about my questions/concerns about my cats over the phone. Payment for services was made over the phone so you didn't have y go inside.

I was reluctant because of the mixed reviews, but we were getting two kitties and needed a vet. EVERY visit here has been great from the medical treatment to the attitude of the people working the front desk. The doctors are great at answering questions, take your concerns seriously, service is prompt and efficient. Whenever the kitties have had issues (one had a slight problem after being spayed) they were seen quickly and there was ALWAYS a follow-up call inquiring about their recovery. Even my cats like going to the vet! They don't associate it with any distress, and I don't notice it in the pets of any of the other patrons I've met.

We've been going to PSQ for a decade and, although not perfect, we have never had a bad experience - doctors there were always quick to address any issues with staff. Recently, Dr Parker went above and beyond with our terminally ill boxer even following-up personally with a call to us to find out how things were going. I've always had to wait on hold for long periods of time on the phone, and am usually eventually transferred to a voicemail. When you have concerns about your pet's health it's a bit frustrating to have to play phone tag.

Dr Bujalski and Dr Parker are first-rate human beings as well as super vets. This is not just a job for them but a gift they bring to us pet owners. The staff are professional and kind. They have seen us through mundane annual visits as well as crises. I will never forget the kindness I received from both vets but especially from Dr Bujalski, who wrote us a handwritten note upon hearing that our dear cat had passed. I came here after having a few bad experiences at a different vet (one actually in porter square where they were overly rough handling my cats). It's a little out of my way to drive my cats to Davis Square, but it's worth it for the care they receive.
