Out of all the walking tours I have been on across the globe, this is by far the best one I experienced. Joe is an amazing storyteller and is able to use humor to engage the entire group, which makes it so much easier to retain the Seattle history he shares. This was a fun way to see and learn more about the city. Joe also provides more recommendations for food and activities. My friends and I highly suggest going on this tour.

I am so glad that I read about this in the AARP magazine. It was a lot of fun and a very good look at the idiosyncrasies and the history of Seattle. The guy that gave the tour, whose name I cannot remember it this time, was funny and full of information.. I recommend this tour. It does go for 2 hours and there is of course walking and quite a bit of standing but I think it was definitely something that you should do. I wish I had done it when I first got there so then I would have known about the ferry to the other islands. But next time I go back I will know.

I live in downtown Seattle and I am trying to experience all the city has to offer. This tour does not disappoint! Joe was an amazing guide! A fantastic performer, but also friendly and easy to talk to one on one. I had a wonderful time, learned some history, and even learned about other things I should experience 🥰 I recommend this for tourists AND locals 😁

We went on the Seattle 101 walking tour yesterday and it was excellent. Our tour guide Joe was fantastic and really knowledgeable and funny. We found out things we would absolutely never have noticed or found out on our own. The tour itself lasted about 2 hours and the walk was pretty easy, all downhill apart from one or two parts. Would thoroughly recommend as something to do when you first arrive in Seattle, lots of recommendations and helps you understand the city much better.

We loved taking the Seattle Free Walking Tours with Joe! We did both the Seattle 101 Tour and the Pike Place Market tour. Joe is funny, super knowledgeable about the area and generous with that knowledge. His tours are the perfect balance of getting an overview of the city while leaving time to explore on your own. We did the Seattle 101 and Market tours separately, but you could easily do both in a morning. Take these tours! You won’t regret it.

I’ve been on many walking tours, my entire family loves walking tours. In fact, my sister is a walking tour guide! Joe was the best guide I’ve ever met, bar none. I’ve traveled the world from Europe to Egypt, Turkey and Singapore. None compares to Joe! And his family goes back 3 generations in Seattle, all the way in 1895! I learned about Chief Seattle (with great pronunciation), Ivars, Pudget Sound, the Hammering Man, and much much more. My roommate was surprised when I was able to get to Bainsbridge without any directions or signs. That’s because somehow, Joe imparted his knowledge onto me like a true local.

Best out of all 20 free walking tours I joined. How Joe tells the stories is a real show! Please offer courses to other tour guides from all over the world.

Joe! Joe! Joe! JOE!! I've been on many free walking tours throughout the world & Joe is the best tour guide I've ever had! Joe was personable, knowledgeable, friendly, pleasant, & funny (saved the best for last). I signed up for the 9:30a The Market Experience tour & Joe was so good I signed up for the 11a Pike 101 tour as well, both tours offered a plethora of information. I'm a proud Pike 101 graduate. I would definitely recommend Seattle Free Walking Tours if you're in the area!

I liked both tours here, which I had back to back. It was a good excuse to get out of the house: I learnt both local history and of interesting places to visit. Joe, the tour guide, was both informative and very humorous! :D
The tours truly are free! I felt no pressure to pay at all (it's very easy to dodge paying if you'd like) but I did give money to Joe, since the tours were totally worth it.
Erin Egan
Our group had a great time on this tour! Our guide Joe really knew his stuff, and made it fun to learn about Seattle's history and fun things to do around town. We didn't bring any kids, but the ones on our tour seemed to be engaged and comfortable with the amount of walking we did. Thanks for a great experience!

I had the opportunity of walking with Joe around Seattle for 2 hours. A great experience of learning, laughing, and exploring a cool city. Very impressed with how Joe has brought this unique European tradition and fit it into a West Coast American city. My walk happened to be on Indigenous Peoples Day and I was thoroughly impressed with the detailed explanation and inclusion of regional native history in the tour.
Christina Hendricks
We live in the area and took Joe's Lakeview Cemetery tour. It was both informative and hilarious (while still being respectful, of course). We even got three opportunity to teach him about a grave that most folks don't know about. We will absolutely book another tour with Joe in the future. Cannot recommend this guy more highly. Joe is THE BEST.

Amalia was our tour guide this morning and she was amazing. I met her at the Green Tortoise Hostel (also recommend). The timing was great as I was about to trek out alone when I heard her call for attendees. She was very kind to wait as I checked my luggage before heading out.
Amalia has a background in the theater arts and improv. This is definitely something she brings to the tour experience! I appreciated her 1:1 conversation before we picked up more attendees and her wonderful, vibrant personality throughout the rest of the tour.
Great experience, do recommend. Thank you!
Mária Szűcs
He just had one of our best walking tour. Amalia was knowlegable, very-very entertaining and very positive about everything. We just arrived to the city, and we have already a fantastic overview of the history of people and Seattle. I recommend it to everyone, who has 2 hours ant want to learn and be entertained.
Katha
Did the Seattle 101 and Market experience tour with Amalia and LOVED it! She is an amazing tour guide, so fun and knowledgeable and she knows so many great stories about Seattle's history! I enjoyed every second of both tours and I really recommend them to any Seattle visitor.
Simon Faber
Seattle 101 tour was absolutely the best.
Joe, our tour guide was just phenomenal. Lots of interesting information. The tour was about 2 hours and 2,5 km with lots of stops!
Absolutely would recommend!!
Janet Moeller
Joe was amazing. I’ve been to Seattle multiple times but felt like I got the ‘insider’s’ tips I didn’t know about before. We took his sightseeing recommendations after the tour, like views from Smith Tower and Kerry Park rather than another trip up the Space Needle with all the other tourists. We saw many more hidden gems after his tour. Thanks Joe!
Grendl Xavier
Best walking tour of Seattle! Our guide Joe is a native and gave us a hilarious insider's view of the city. Highly recommended for tourists, visitors, and locals! We were able to plan several other activities based on his local recommendations.
Kelly Brannigan
We did the Seattle 101. Such a fun way to start a trip to Seattle. I'd do it again. It was all super interesting and Joe was witty and hilarious. We enjoyed hearing all the history of the area and it was packed with recommendations. Definitely a must.
slomii1
The tour was very interesting and informative. Amalia is a great tour guide, she was entertaining and knowledgeable and covered just the right amount of history and other interesting facts. Would definetely recommend doing this tour to get an introduction to this amazing city from a Seattle local.
Lyndsey Conway
Joe is great and his tour is informative and fun! We learned a lot about Seattle’s history which helped us made sense of everything for the rest of the trip! I highly recommend! He has a venmo account too for tipping at the end so don’t worry about running out to grab cash before the tour!
ben_triplett_media
I went twice in one morning. I was engaged and educated by Joe, the tour guide. He makes the experience awesome and enlightens people to new jokes! Culture! History! His own thoughts! Someone should record his dialogue because this man goes above and beyond any speaker I've met. Plus you could probably reread some hilarious jokes. Miss you Joe!
Christine Posvistak
Absolutely LOVED this tour! Joe did an amazing job at describing the history of Seattle. The tour was informative, fun, and did not at all feel like it was two hours long. Super grateful I did this!
ANDRES JULIE
Joe is amazing, the tour is amazing full of funny details of Seattle. Highly highly recommend, you actually must do it if you go there !
Hope your mom is proud Joe.
It was a pleasure ! Keep sharing all your stories
Max Lovelace
I would have easily paid double the asking price for this tour! The tour was very informational and interesting. My tour guide Joe really knew everything about the city. I tipped $50 and probably tip more next time I bring some
More friends from out of town! Thanks again for the great time!
Melissa Nuwaysir
Wonderful tour! Joe is a wonderful storyteller who brought Seattle's history to life. We took both tours and thoroughly enjoyed them. Not to be missed!
Judy Razo
Amalia was awesome! We went on the Seattle 101 tour as a family and had a great time walking through downtown Seattle and learning the history of it all. Amalia was informative as well as informed, making sure to speak about the native people and culture in a respectful way. The tour was about 2 hours long but we were so entertained that it didn't feel that way. Other than one steep hill, the walk was very casual and doable.
Sylvia Carlson
Joe was such a good tour guide!! I enjoyed every second of this 2 hour tour. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn a bit about Seattle.
Patrick
Great tour today with Joe.
Very insightful and funny guide.
Rachael DiCarlo
Our tour guide was wonderful! She had some very entertaining stories and with hilarious anecdotes. Lot of fun in history and information about Seattle.
Joe Cavanaugh
Great tour. We went on the Seattle 101 tour. It's about 2 miles of walking, some hills and stairs, but not too bad. Definitely worth it if you want an overview of Seattle by foot.
Andrew Stewart
This is an excellent food tour get samples of chowder, salmon, bbq, cheese, tea, biscuits and even a cookie at the end. Ask for team Eric when you book.
Christian Goulet
Took the Seattle 101 and Pike Place tours. Both were very interesting. Our guide Jake was enthousiastic and gave plenty of information about Seattle and its history. Very worth it and definitely recommend these tours.
Laura C Lin
Shawn was a great guide for both the Seattle 101 and Pike Place tours. Very informative, funny, and inclusive. Great way to start a Seattle vacation! Did them on separate days but could easily be done back to back if you only have 1 day to spare.
Alison Gill
Must do when visiting Seattle! I did both the Market tour and Seattle 101 with Amalia. She was informative, fun, knowledgeable and a perfect guide. Amazing to think she's only just started! The tours made it easy to get a feel for the city. I like their length, the information they covered and the pace. They were super detailed and gave great ideas for other things to do in the area. I love walking tours and I couldn't fault these ones! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend! Thanks Amalia :)
BritishInvasion91
I love Seattle and wanted to learn more about the history of the city. I went on the 101 tour and it was amazing.
Joe was a fantastic guide and was full of knowledge, energy and good natured humor. I felt like I was at a moving comedy show.
The tour was two hours long and moved at a perfect pace. I went on it thinking if nothing else, I could learn something. It exceeded my expectations. It was entertaining, educational and felt a lot less touristy than I thought it would. I recommend it!
Erin Reed
Joe is incredibly knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. He's done a lot of research and his love for Seattle is clear. This was the first tour we took when we arrived in Seattle and we learned so much. We later visited other "fancier" museums/tours and felt like we knew more than their tour guides did, thanks to Joe! Honestly we weren't sure if we wanted to do this tour but we're really glad we did
Uriel Rios
We had a great time during our 2 hour walking tour. Our tour guide Joe was super funny and shared a lot of history of Seattle which we didn't know. Although we were walking, the tour went by really quickly and didn't drag at all. Joe even recommended some great places to eat in Pike's Market afterwards. We highly recommend the tour. Make sure to tip your tour guides!
גל ויינברג
We had a great time!
Joe was an amazing guide with just the right attitude for a guide, funny, interesting and not boring at all
The tour itself really does the best to sum the history and culture of Seattle in just 2 hours.
Ahmed Bajwa
We took the "Seattle 101" walking tour with Jake and it was a really fun and informative experience. The walk isn't too challenging, just 2 miles and you get a mix of nature, old town and new town views coupled with some insightful information from Jake. Really enjoyed hearing about the history behind things and I would highly recommend Jake as a guide .
Miranda Walls
Joe was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable, fun facts and story’s that brought the city to life. I would definitely recommend the market and the city tour
Joel Posner
10/17/17: took the Seattle 101 tour and couldn't have been happier to walk the city cobblestones, and appreciate the city that lives authentically post last ice age paleontoligically , not virtually but fully in the now sense. Seattle 101 needs no imbellishments to make itself authentic to ancient time.
Seattle is proof this time still exists.
Jake, the guy guide took his Seattle history yarn with the integrity he believed to be the most letter perfect interpretatation of this most mysterious city. Swinging his keep in toe green flag he moved us through the ice age to the rise of the city, ignorance of the native folk, and on through it's fortunate rise from ashes to current traffic diverting tunnels plowed from underground.
Be there no doubt, Jake is the lumber jack ax man of Western Ave.
If you attend this tour you will be impressed with the pics I left for skeptic admiration after you learn about 15000 years of history that is prescient but maybe more interestingly viewed in a virtual mind set, maybe 50/50 authentic to virtual ice age reflections. Dig this tour.
Heather M
Our tour guide, Amalia, was amazing. She was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She was funny too. She had a lot of great suggestions and insider tips for experiencing the area. This tour was better than paid tours. I feel bad for the guide though....I think half the people ditched her at the end and didn't tip. My group tipped generously because the tour was fantastic.
Margaret Rowlett
We took both tours offered and saw Pike Place Market with Kavya and the downtown area with Joe. Both are excellent guides who loaded the tours with interesting stories and facts and were also funny to boot. We loved these two tours and highly recommend them.
KT M
Hands down best free tour we have done (and we do a lot). Absolutely great intro to Seattle and even though it was busy you could hear Jake and the pace of the tour was perfect. A must do and you will end up being more than happy to pay at the end. Brilliant funny and informative.
Alex Lennon
Joe was that absolute best! Super informative and fun to be around. I highly recommend this if you’re new to Seattle and honestly even if you’re just in to learning a little bit about the city you already live in. Go see Joe!!!
Denise Jackson
Amalia is such a fun and interesting guide! I loved her quirky stories and learned so much about the city. Can't beat the price either!
Alex Donohue
We have been on these tours worldwide. Amalia is up there with the very best. A must do on your Seattle itinerary
Àlex Leiva Maturana
Jake is an amazing guide. Good explanation, good times in Seattle. I will recommend this tour!
Sydney Stein
Joe was such a lovely tour guide! He answered all our crazy questions and shared insightful facts and stories. His recommendations throughout the city made our entire trip a joy! Definitely recommend both the Market and Seattle 101 tours!
Ashley S. Kim
My fiancé and I went on the Seattle Free Walking Tour with Joe who was the absolute best. He is a Seattle local who is so incredibly knowledgeable about the city. It was the last thing we did before we left to the airport and I'm so grateful that we got to experience it. I would recommend this free walking tour to anyone coming to visit Seattle even if it's for a day. You won't regret it!
Samuel Anderson
I went for the Seattle 101 tour with a friend on May 17, 2022. The tour guide's name was Amalia, and she was incredible. She was very knowledgeable, and proudly showed us many of the hidden secrets of her city. It was her first tour that she had done on her own, but she had clearly had a lot of experience in similar settings. She gave us plenty of things to check out in Seattle, and they have not yet disappointed. Would recommend her as a tour guide!
David Owens
We came from Australia and it was our first day in the US. We did the Seattle 101 tour and Joe was brilliant! Excellent energy, a great story teller and well-acquainted with this city that he clearly loves. It was a blast and we learned so much about history and just general Seattle culture. Thanks for introducing us to this great city and to the USA more broadly.
Pallav Sharda
What a great experience! This "Seattle 101" tour was the highlight of the trip for me. Our guide, Joe, was knowledgeable, courteous and extremely funny! I was amazed by all the facts he told us - made us feel real connection with the city. He had genuine answers to our questions and was very organized.
I'd say that this tour is essential for anyone visiting Seattle for the first time. Highly recommended.
And yes, you can pay what whatever you'd like for the tour. We ended up paying way more than expected... it was well deserved!
David Wannigman
Amalia, our guide, informed us that this was her very first tour. We never would have known. She and her comrade where delightful! High energy, informative and funny!! What a super way to start our day. We left the tour and made our way through Pike Place and left with no less than 4 beautiful things made by local artisans. Highly recommend!!
KD Nguyen
Amazing free walking tour of Seattle! I moved to seattle recently and have been wanting to take a tour to explore the city more. Our tour guide, Joe was hilarious and personable. I learned a lot and am interested to experience more. Definitely a must for all tourists and new locals!
Mimi Hoff
Those 2 hours were some of the most memorable of my trip. Joe was an amazing tourguide, full of energy, fun and easy to follow. After the tour you really have the feeling of knowing the city better - while still leaving tons of space to explore it yourself.

A cup of Joe!
Joe our friendly tour guide across the streets of Pike was very enthusiastic. The morning cup full of caffeine was definitely what Joe was consistently. Detailed, Personable, and definitely Knowledgeable. He definitely kept everyone engaged throughout the experience. Let's forget about the jokes. What is a tour without jokes? Seriously, the jokes connected each time. haaha. I definitely recommend everyone to gain this experience.

Andrea E
I cannot recommend this tour enough. Joe is incredible and the tour is incredible. He is full of information and will make the 2 hours go by flying. Take the tours it's perfect and Joe is the best. Give him your money
Kamila Pinkasová
I have never joined any walking tours so this was jump in the dark but I really enjoyed it! Joe was a great guide and I got to know really interesting things about Seattle that also came in handy during my stay.
Patricia Snyder
This is my second time taking one of Joe’s tours and he’s the best! Entertaining, interesting, and so so fun. Highly recommend, 10/10, will do it again.
Imme de Vor
I would recommend this tour to everyone. Our guide, Amalia, was awesome. It was her first time but she was very enthousiastic and funny. She also knew very well how to keep everyone entertained with good stories and controlled the whole situation!
Lidia Infante
Our guide Joe was amazing. He was so funny and insightful. We had a really really good time with him!
Tanja McMorris
My friend and I signed up for both the Market Tour with Jake and the Seattle 101 tour with Joe on Saturday, May 26. Both tours were fantastic. Very informative and fun. What a great way to see the city and get the inside scoop. I had been to Seattle about 10 years ago and I feel like I have a better appreciation of the city and its history because of these tours. Thank you Jake and Joe!
Chris Beck
Wow. Awesome tour by Jake! We takes LOTS of tours, and this one is a standout. For our 4 day visit to Seattle, we took 3 tours. My only regret is not taking this one first.
We did the Seattle 101. This tour was the perfect introduction to the city. Jake, our tour guide, walked a nice line between education and entertainment. Informative elements were punctuated with a mix of corny and clever jokes. Jake did a nice job of keeping us engaged and on the move without wearing the group out.
Highly recommend this tour. My advice would be to take this tour early in your trip to Seattle. The tour is packed with practical information that you could use for the rest of the trip: site recommendations, ferry rides, restaurants, etc.
Aditya Arora
Joe gave me the best experience of my first walking tour. His energy is contagious.
I'll recommend to give this tour a try if they are in Seattle.
Thanks Joe.
Love from India.
Jennifer K.
Tour usually happens rain or shine. It rained pretty hard during our tour but we still had a great time. Jake was engaging and passionate -- his stories were informative, funny, and made us really appreciate the history of Seattle. Would definitely recommend for first time visitors!
Sanaz S
It was a great tour to walk around & learn about the history of Seattle. Our tour guide Joe was nice , entertaining & professional. I really enjoyed the tour . I can`t believe it was free. Unfortunately I did not have any cash with me to tip him.
Chelsea Avery
Joe was super friendly and funny! Very personal touch to the tour, I loved it!
Michael Pekala
DO THIS NOW!! This was an excellent trip with stellar guide Jake. The tour was fun, informative, and interesting. Jake was great, one of the best free tour guides we've ever encountered, and we've done this over 15 times around the world. JAKE IS FOR REAL!! The pace was excellent, the group size was perfect, and we saw a wide variety of the city in 2 short hours. Plus, Jake stayed available long after the tour was over to help with questions, recommendations, etc. Do yourself a favor and book this tour today!!
Stuart C. McFarland
I went to Seattle on a whim, not really knowing what to expect. After Seattle 101, I was informed and excited about the rest of my stay. Jake is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his city, and that really shines through in his tours. I especially appreciate his answering all my questions about history, culture, restaurants, prices, views etc. The Market Experience was also a lot of fun, with samples, interaction with the vendors (including the famous fish guys), and more history. These tours played a huge role in my perspective of Seattle as an awesome, underrated tourist destination!
Marie Fréchette
Very interesting tour! Joe is super energetic and nice. I recommend!
Steve
I would totally recommend this experience the tour guide was very knowledgable and charismatic. Totally worth the experience we tipped him $20. Well worth it 👍👍 …
Michelle Fekete
Such Fantastic tours! Both Pike's Place Market and Seattle 101. I did both on the same day. Take these tours as soon as you get to town. The guides are so knowledgable and will be able to tell you anything you would like to know. Pike's place tour went by so quickly and I love all the samples! Seattle 101 has quite a bit more walking but if you love history, you will really enjoy the tour!
MaryAnna Jambon
Chelsea was awesome. We had such a great time and learned so much! 100% recommend this!
Daniel Tow
This tour was fantastic. My wife is and I have been traveling for over 4 months and have been on plenty of free walking tours. Jake was such an outstanding tour guide that we think this may be our best one to date. Helpful info about what to do in town, great historical insights and he really committed to providing a great experience for everyone on the tour. Highly recommended!
Jess Kyle
I love doing walking tours in whatever new city I visit. This was one of the best I’ve ever done. Jake and his wife traveled around the world and did a bunch of tours before opening their own company. They took what they liked about those tours and made their own. It was phenomenal! Jake is very knowledgeable and told the history of Seattle during the tour. I highly recommend!!
Curtis Correll
Jake is the man. My wife and I loved the tour! It was a great exposure to both the history and current culture of the city, and Jake did a great job making plenty of time to address questions and form a personal connection with the folks on the tour. I recommend this tour to anyone visiting Seattle!

Review for Seattle 101 Free Walking Tour
This was honestly one of the best things we did on our trip to Seattle. Jake was beyond fantastic at telling stories, giving the cities history and passing along useful knowledge. The two hours went by very quickly and we walked away with a greater appreciation for the entire city.
If we come back, it will be a priority to go on another tour with Jake. Anyone who goes should do this.
Natasha Ware
I did the Seattle 101 tour with Jake and thought it was fantastic. He was super cool and friendly, encouraging everyone to ask questions or just chit-chat with him while walking. He had great knowledge of the history (and future) of the city and was super passionate on matters he spoke on, especially the city's First People. He did an excellent job and I wish I could have done the other tours offered.
Sara Kozar
Joe was our tour guide, he did a phenomenal job telling the history of Seattle in a fun and entertaining way. The two hours flew by, I would have stayed for another two hours to hear and learn more! A++++ experience
Kelsy Fletcher
Great walking tour that we absolutely loved! Our tour guide, Jake, was super knowledgeable and gave us heaps of fantastic tips especially about where to eat (which happy hours to hit up).
The tour was very diverse and we learnt a lot, and he was respectful to the First Nations people of Seattle, giving a rundown of their history as well.
Would 100% recommend this tour to anyone coming to Seattle for the first time. Book it in for early in your trip (so you can maximise happy hour patronage).
Anya Gilad
Had 2 tours with Jake, the Seattle 101 and the market tour and had so much fun! The market tour definitely improved the whole experience and the Seattle 101 was very interesting. Jake has lots of knowledge and is very funny. Take the tour first thing before starting to explore Seattle.
The only thing needs to be improved is - more tours!
Joseph Kardamis
My wife and I went on the Seattle 101 tour at the beginning of our trip, and Jake, our tour guide, was fantastic. We enjoyed great views of the city, heard much of the history (good and bad), saw into the future of the waterfront with the upcoming projects, and got excellent insight into how to make the most of our trip. I can't say enough how excellent this tour is - you're in for a treat!
The Globetrotting Seasonaire
We did the Pike place market and Seattle 101 tours. From someone that works in tourism and has guided tours in the past I have to say Joe our guide was in a league of his own. So entertaining and knowledgeable and kept the pace upbeat that the time simply flew by. I cannot praise him enough to the point that the tours were pretty much the highlights of our 3 days in Seattle.
Vincente Sy
This was an excellent tour. Jake was our tour guide and did an awesome job explaining the history of various parts of Seattle and was very funny. He was very knowledgeable about the restaurants and things to do for fun in the area.
The only unfortunate part of the tour today was that I got hit with an egg someone threw, which exploded all over my back and got on another woman as well.
Lukas Isler
I had a great market tour today! Joe was our tour guide, he made his job great! I would defently recommend this tour, but also the 101 walking tour is really nice and you learn a lot about the history of Seattle
Elizabeth Sim
We had an excellent experience on the Seattle 101 tour ran by Jake. We were given a great amount of information about Seattle, which gave us the confidence to explore the city deeper on our own. Jake was engaging and provided us with a great number of recommendations for restaurants, bars, and experiences around Seattle. He emphasized that he was not being paid to provide recommendations and wished to provide us with his honest opinion about Seattle, which was highly appreciated. Overall, I would highly recommend going on a Seattle Free Walking Tour, if you want an immersive, interactive, affordable, and humorous picture of Seattle.
Wan Jung
We took the Pike Market and Seattle 101 tours! And they were just so good that make me wants to tell everyone! They were both guided by Shawn, an excellent guide I’ve ever met! Great story teller, Interesting historical stories, useful information! Just book it!
Gina Logan
We have been on numerous free walking yours & this was the best one yet! Jake was extremely knowledge, energetic & has a great sense of humor. He provided amazing tips to see Seattle as a local. Highly recommend taking both their tours offered.
Jessica Schauer
What an amazing tour guide Jake is! Very knowledgeable about every aspect of Seattle (& where to get the best samples!) Definitely a must & great way to start your adventure! We did the market tour & stayed around for the second tour since we enjoyed the first tour so much! We have recommended Seattle Free Walking Tours to all of our friends visiting Seattle!
Moni Dei
I highly recommend to do the free walking tours! I had Jake and Chris, and they both did an amazing job showing us the city. I suggest you do seattle 101 and the market experience on your first day here, Jake gave a lot of recommendations on what to do best. The historic Seattle tour with Chris was awesome too and I'd do it again, we laughed a lot because he was so funny. However if you don't have time for this one, they also cover some history on the Seattle 101. I also strongly advise you to register beforehand especially for the market experience tour, I wasn't able to go on the first day because it was booked out and the market only allows them to take a small number of people on the tour. I promise you you won't regret doing these tours!
Carol Dirr
Joe does a great job and gives history of the market. We learned a lot in a short time.
Aneta Ratynski
Joe is the man to give you the best Seattle experience and tell you the town’s history in a really entertaining way!
Courtney Stasi
My husband and I booked tickets to Seattle last minute from our home in Denver. Jake’s tour was the first thing we did and it was the BEST! He gave such good insight to the history and formation of Seattle. We were able to carry our knowledge throughout the weekend and plan our trip accordingly. Highly recommend his tours. We will sure be back again. Thanks Jake!

I decided to try this out after hearing about it through the hostel that I am staying at, and I’m glad that I did! I took the “Market Experience” tour with Sean, and it was awesome! The Market itself is super cool and has a lot of fun, interesting, and delicious things to offer. But better yet was Sean. He has all of the qualities that I’d want from a tour guide; he’s knowledgeable, friendly, engaging and funny. He lead the tour as if he was a friend, and really made us a part of the whole experience. That, more than anything, gave it a very fun and comfortable vibe. I would most definitely recommend him, the tour and the company to anyone looking to explore and learn a little about Seattle! :D
Rosy Herman
I recently attended the Pike Place tour and highly recommend it. #Joe our tour guide was knowledgeable about the area, friendly and funny. I have been to the Market many times and was amazed at all the hidden gems #Joe showed us. I learned a lot a its hard to condense 100+ years of history into a one hour tour. I would love to attend a tour of the history of the lower arcade if that ever comes available.

Jake the owner is energetic, friendly and clearly loved by his community. I've done tens of walking tours around the world and this one was clearly a cut above the rest. Definitely worth way more than paying $29 to go up the Space Needle.
Did both Pikes Market and Seattle 101 tour, back to back. Both were awesome but if I had to choose one, it was awesome to get the insider scoop on Pikes Market, where I've been several times before but never like this.
Sarah Idrovo
Loved this tour. It was fun and engaging and Jake, the tour guide, was funny and knew so much! I went on the Market experience tour which takes you through Pikes Place Market and I cannot believe how much I would have missed if I hadn't gone on this tour. This is a must if you are new to Seattle!!!
Melissa Baxter
We did both the Pikes Market tour and the Seattle 101 tour in one day. Both tours were great and the tour guides were so knowledgeable in their areas and I feel like I learned a lot! If you are going to do both tours in one day; do yourself a favor and wear good shoes and bring bottles of water.
Mark McHugh
The best walking tour I have EVER had! This was the most memorable tour because our guide (and owner) Jake, knew everything about the city! He was extremely passionate about what he does and it made the difference. If you are looking for an amazing in-depth look at the Emerald City, look no more! This tour will fascinate you! Book it now!

What a great tour! I'm from the Seattle area but have been gone for a while now. I've done Seattle 101 w/ Jake in the past and it was awesome. On this trip, I brought my girlfriend to town to visit and took her on The Market Experience tour. The tour was phenomenal. Jake was very knowledgable about the history about Pikes and his personality made it fun and very enjoyable. I brought a buddy with us that still lives in Seattle and Jake touched on things that we both never new about. When we got to Fish Market, Tony Dungy was there w/ his family and the kids were experiencing the fish throwing that we always see on TV. That was a cool experience that was the icing to the cake on the tour. I highly recommend going on all Jakes tours...you won't regret it!
Jeanette Flygenring
It's a great tour! The history of Seattle is very interesting when told in this manner and the guide is very helpful with tips in and around Seattle. I've been on the tour twice, once for myself and once for our visitors. I would not hesitate to join our next visitors on the tour.

Very fun experience. Joe is the best tour guide. Funny, attentive and informative. Learned about Seattle history other little tips around town such as happy hour restaurants etc. Tip generously, guys and keep this going 🎉 …
Jared Reed
My fiance and I were in Seattle over the weekend and decided to take the tour. We ended up doing both the market tour and the Seattle 101(yes we graduated lol) Jake( not from statefarm) was amazing, and extremely knowledgeable. Loved seeing the market and finding out all the history behind it. The Seattle 101 tour really opened our eyes about how the city came to be and the past cultures that shaped that beautiful city. For anyone who is visiting this city I highly recommend these tours. Simply fantastic.
Ma'ayan Shaked
Great walking tour! We did the Seattle 101 and our guide Joe was very entertaining and informative. It was a fun way to spend 2 hours and learn about the history of the city.
Betsy Levitas
If you’re visiting Seattle, you must do the Seattle 101 tour! The 2 hours flew by, with fascinating, useful info presented by a most engaging tour guide (Jake/founder) who is out to be the world’s best. He earns every minute of your attention, with stories that beautifully illustrate the major forces that created this remarkable city.
Melisa Adiram
Let me preface with the fact that I was a tour guide for a large public university on the east coast for three years. By no means does this make me an expert but I posses a very clear understanding of the nuances of the field.
Anyone can be a tour guide but only few can actually master it. An even smaller few can hone their style and, most importantly, it’s unique that someone can capitalize on that mastery by offering it for free and go on to amass a damn respectable business. But Jake has!
I took two of his tours on a sunny Friday morning in March. The market experience and Seattle 101. Both highly, indubitably, and ridiculously recommended. Especially if you can appreciate the thoughtfulness and utter passion that Jake brings to each tour. He takes absolute pride in his city. As he should! Seattle is a gorgeous, quaint and delightful city and I myself can’t wait to return.
Creating a tour like this is no easy feat. I was overwhelmed by the efforts and passion allocated to crafting such an experience for all that wish to listen, and hopefully, learn. And he succeeds—with personality, wit, thoughtfulness, sincerity, humor, ingenuity, and a uniqueness that is so fresh and welcomed.
As a native New Yorker, people like Jake are rare.
Take the man’s tour and tip generously—because HIS generosity is worth it.
Jacob Haskew
Jake is a fantastic tour guide! I stumbled into this tour as it started best decision of my trip to stay with it. Would recommend to anyone visiting Seattle. Very knowledgable and highly enjoyable. Major highlight of my trip
Katharina Skrinjer
Joe is the best tour guide I have ever had.
A lot of fun and good recommendations for my stay in Seattle. I highly recommend this tour for everyone. Thank you for your great hospitality and interesting tour! :)
Debbie Johnson
I signed up for Seattle 101 on my first-ever trip to the city. My goal was to get an overview of Seattle in general without having to wander aimlessly hoping to stumble upon the points of interest. I thought Jake did a very good job of explaining the history of the area and also of laying out the changes on the horizon due to the city’s fast and furious growth. He did not advertise any other tours, stores or restaurants. He encouraged questions which most people asked as we walked from stop to stop, and only offered restaurant tips when asked directly...no sales pitches at all. I truly felt this is a tour given by a person that loves his city and wants to share its past, present and future...warts and all. It was well worth the time.
Barbara McGary
I recommend the Seattle 101 walking tour. Our tour guide definitely knew the history of the city. It was very educational and interesting. He was engaging with the crowd and helpful toward any questions asked. Please tip at the end.
Alexander Belman
We had one day in Seattle and this was the perfect way to start it. Jake was passionate and knowledgable. He gave context to the stories he told and wanted us to leave knowing more than when we arrived. He succeeded.
Best part is the tour is free, though you should tip because Jake and the company deserve it.
Highly highly highly recommend.
Lachlan Laycock
Great experience with a knowledgeable local who made it a joy.
Though we were slightly mislead when they said to visit the Starbucks on the 40th floor of the Columbia centre as it is no longer there.
Katy Waskey
Amazing tour! Perfect for day 1 of visiting the city. Jake was our guide on the Seattle 101 tour and was a dynamic guide, funny, engaging, & genuine. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!
Porsha Wright
Visiting Seattle for the first time and took the Market Experience Tour and the Seattle 101 Tour--both with guide Sean. He was amazing!! Tour was informative, fun, and Sean was an excellent resource. He had all the answers or knew where to find them! Highly recommend these tours and that you seek out Sean as your guide.
Rachel Skonecki
Joe was a fantastic guide for the Seattle 101 tour. Interesting information and great sense of humor. Would absolutely recommend this tour for anyone!
Imani
Great tour. Very easy-going, humorous, informative and well paced. Discussed the different origins of Seattle, including the different indigenous tribes, which was incredibly interesting. Gave local spots for food, drinks and entertainment throughout the tour and was very helpful in giving ideas for where to go next while in Seattle. Definitely recommend.
Davide Lucchesi
We had the basic tour of Seattle and it was very nice, entertaining, informative and useful. Beside giving the basic info about the city and its history, our guide Shawn also pointed out cheap and nice places where to eat/drink or to visit, beside mobile apps to navigate what Seattle has to offer. He was very very entertaining and knowledgable.
Andrew McKay
Jake and the Seattle 101 tour are amazing!
Great views, great pace for the tour and super knowledgeable. Awesome personalized recommendations, and you really get a feel for the history and culture in Seattle.
RJ Astronomo
Most value for the buck. We tipped well and got to see someone who knew the city well and talked about with compassion for the indigenous tribes that had pervaded the area. It was just right and great business model—hopefully people honor the “free” Tour by giving out cash to the tour guide.
Jennilee
Seattle Free Walking Tour is a free Tour, but tips are always welcome! Remember the free tour is able to continue because of your tips! Don't be cheap, even a buck or two helps...more the better!
Jake (the BOSS) was a wonderful, easy going tour guide. I went on both tours since I had an open morning in Seattle. Market tour starts at 9:30 AM; Seattle 101 starts at 11 AM.
Meet: Victor Stienbruek Park (2000 Western Ave) at the corner of Western Ave and Virginia St. At the north entrance to Pike Place Market....Jake tends to have everyone wait by the little island (looks like an old bus stop) between the park and Starbucks, but he will check the park before starting his tour.
I would definitely recommend both tours, but the Market Experience is a MUST! Since Jake knows most of the vendors, you will be able to get 10% off and yummy samples from every vendor that Jake takes you. He will also give you a history of the market and bits of information about each vendor that you visit. Since I was solo on my first tour, it was a VIP experience meeting the vendors.
My Market Experience included:
Starbucks
How and History of the Market Setup
The tiles on the floor and history
Smoked Fish at City Fish (Willy)
Fresh Jam and Jelly
Pickled Goods along with Black/Smoked Garlic
Fresh Produce (Taylor Gold's Pear / Apple)
The Gold Pig
Dehydrated Fruits and Veggies (Simple the Best)
The Gummy Salmon with the Fish Thrower (Monkfish Surprise)
Gum Wall
Seattle 101 included:
Starbucks
Truffle Cafe
Walk around town w/ History info
Tips with Manhole (never get lost!)
Best Fish and Chips and Happy Hour Info
Sample of Clam Chowder and Fries (crazy birds)
Pier
Gum Wall
The Pike Brewing Co
A great tour with a great guide! Jake was focused and informative during my tour; thanks for the great insight to Seattle. I hope your streak continues onto 2014, good luck Jake!
Daniel Villarreal
Jake does a great job on this walking tour. He’s energetic and is full of insightful information. I took both the Seattle 101 and pike place tour and together they gave me a good understanding of Seattle.
RD
Jake was a fantastic host. He's really good at engaging with the group. I threw out several random questions and he answered them with ease and a smile. Initially I wasn't sold on a walking tour to be honest but I'm truly glad I got to enjoy this.
Laura Tulli
My parents are visiting from Texas, so we took the Seattle 101 tour with Jake on a Saturday morning. Jake was friendly, informative, and funny - my mom and dad thought it was a great resource as first-time visitors, and I learned a lot even after two years in the city. Thanks for a great time!
Raul Wong
We did the Seattle 101 tour with Joe, arguably the best tour guide I've ever had. Okay, he told me to say that, but I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true! Joe was energetic, enthusiastic, and thoroughly knowledgeable about his city. He made our 2 hours with him fun and interesting. We learned about the history of Seattle, the background on totem poles, and the great fire of 1889, among other things. We only walked up one hill during the entire tour, and if you've ever walked downtown Seattle, you know how rare that is. We also learned how to save $20, get a great view of the city, AND have a cup of Starbucks, all at the same time. FIinally, we learned about the secret elevator that lets you cut from the lower pier level straight to Pike Peak Market. But you're going to have to take the tour with Joe to learn about those. Take the free tour. What have you got to lose?
Samantha Colden
We opted for the market tour and had a really fun time. Sean showed us around the market, pointing out all the highlights and letting us in on some market secrets. We got to taste a few things too. Remember though, this tour is free, but your tour guide works hard and still needs a tip! This is definitely a fun and economic alternative to some of the other market tours.
Adriana Bordea
I was visiting from Portland and wanted to learn about Seattles history and current state. It was a good tour but I would probably not suggest it. I got there 10 min beforehand hand and no one was there to check anyone in. I called their office and was about to head out when he showed up 2 min before the tour starts. His humor was either a hit or miss and for some reason he wasn't into suggesting locations for foodie spots unless you really pushed. Honestly my big thing was him pointing out his porsche and saying how that will cut down his tip, it did.
Tracey P
Had 2 great tours with Jake and Joe, the Pike Place Market and the Seattle 101. Both guides were very informative and interesting. Great inside tips!
Monica E.
Joe was a great tour guide and we learned a lot! Would highly recommend this tour!
Rose Wudtke
I took the Market Tour this morning with Shawn and it was super informative and fun. I wouldn’t have known about half of what there was to see without his guidance. Take the tour and be ready to give him a generous tip. He deserves it!
Kayleigh Brewer
Awesome tour! Jake loves his city and it shows. The history is fascinating, and I learned a lot even as a local. I consider this a must-do, whether this is your first or fiftieth trip to the city. Funny and engaging!
Lauren Purdin
Took 2 tours today (Market and Seattle 101) from Joe and Jake and I loved both. My favorite part was learning about the Native American history of the area. I learned so much that I hope I can retain half of it by tomorrow!
Rashelle Newmyer
My family and I have gone on a couple of these tours. They are great! Especially if you are new to Seattle. We learned a ton about downtown and enjoyed the scenery. Definitely worth your time.

Dan Nilsen
Ran into Joe’s tour group while leaving the Pike Place Market and decided to tag along as we were headed the same way as them. After an hour of laughing our ass off we were real sad that Joe was leaving us. This was the best tour I’ve ever been on, of anything, anywhere. Joe was funny, entertaining and unbelievably knowledgeable. I’d have given him a $200 tip if I had it on me at the time. Bravo, I feel like a weird Seattle history buff. Joe is the man. The tour was great. We had a lot of fun and it was super interesting listening to the stories about seattle and the history. Would defenitely recommend! Very nice 2 hours tour to get an idea about the city. Thanks so much.
Alan Longhini
Went on three tours with these guys (101, Market, and Crime) and they were all excellent. Each one was led by somone different, but all were very friendly and knowledgeable, and seemed to be enjoying themselves as they guided us and told us about different facets of the city.
It's a pay what you want model, so do bear in mind that even though it's called "free" some contribution is (rightfully, I would add) expected. Having done a few of these across several different countries, I can't help but find that this model seems work rather well for tours.
Colleen E. Campbell
Took The Market Experience Tour with Jake and it was so entertaining, informative and fun. Would highly recommend Seattle Free Walking Tours. Can't wait to go back and take more.
