Reviews of North Mountain Visitor Center
Delana Valtierra
Love these trails. There are so many to explore and each one shows you its hidden beauty and each is unique per the ti.e of day. I have spent 2 years hiking these trails and I'm still finding new connecting trails with hidden beauties.
C Harbeson
The trails are manicured. The restrooms are clean (however there are no doors on the stalls). The trails vary from easy to challenging. Just know that the palo verde trees and bushes are buzzing full of bees, and whatever else is occupying the bushes. I didn't get stung, and didn't see anyone else get stung, but the trails were not peacefully quiet, they were buzzing. The trees were also full of hummingbirds, so it balanced out the experience.

This location is ran completely by volunteers. Finally made it in after wanting to for so long. There’s a little library, a hallway photo gallery of animals in the park, and lots of other things to see and do.
There’s a short little path out the back door to a little birdwatching area too.

Attended their live folk music concert this Saturday morning from 9 to 11am. It was fantastic!!!! They find amazing musicians and original song writers! Today's 3 musicians played 25 different instruments as part of their concert! They were amazing!!! Remember to put Music on the Mountain on your calendar at the North Mountain Visitor's Center from 9am to 11am the 3rd Saturday of every month!!! And its free!
Faith Rono
It was my first time hiking here. It was great! For a beginner hiker it was very nice to have different levels of difficulty. I also enjoyed taking pictures and seeing the other people out there with their dogs.
bonnie love
Hidden gem of a park and trail. Great parking well maintained park with a visitor center. The trail is easy, dogs and older nature lovers enjoy this one but no shade so go early to avoid the heat.
Corina Manci
Beautiful visitor center! The staff were amazing and so welcoming! The hike had amazing views.
Tracy Milanese
This is a great starting place for many trails. The visitor center has neat exhibits and special events.
Gail Harris
The North Mountains are beautiful!! Hiking early in the morning is so peaceful. The trails are rather easy to follow. Lots of signs. I decided to follow Trail 100 and started by the Welcome Center. Lots of parking. Visited the Welcome Center after my hike. Loads of beautiful Native American Art, Jewelry, Artifacts, and Literature. Loved it!!❤
April Medina
I dropped into the visitor center after a wonderful hike and was delighted with the desert photographs and art, some for sale! I'm looking forward to enjoying the special events upcoming 💝 Thank you to the volunteers for keeping the doors open! …

Cool spot, trails are rocky, great views, horse parking, water trough, and tie downs are.
Desiree Robinson
Helpful staff and had a couple nice light walks on trails while staying at the resort nearby. Glad that there's a tunnel to easily access it from the resort.
Sharron Goods
Love this mountain and the trails!!!
Wayne Cox
Lots of parking, many trails both easy (flat) and difficult - Shaw Butte. Descriptive wildlife information on the trail by the Visitor's center. Great for kids!
Leslie Spenceer-Snider
Great place to learn everything you want to know about the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. Trail maps, hats, tee shirts, hiking staffs, books and rocks for sale in the gift shop. An all Volunteer staff is very helpful with all questions. There is a sign up sheet for email newsletter and flyers about all the events at the Center from a Desert Guppy Reading program to Brown Bag Workshops where you eat your lunch as you learn fascinating information. On the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of the month the Center has a free coffee house with some breakfast snacks for a small donation. Listen to music from volunteer musicians while you sip your coffee. A very happening place!

My friend, Dalton's Celebration of Life service was held here. The venue was wonderful for a hundred or more of his close friends & family. Thank you for accommodating our crew!
Sahls Hornbeck
mountain biking, hiking and horse riding. trails are mostly southwest desert natural and affected by rain and run-off, although trail stewards work to fixup some of the more heavily impacted trail spots. some fun (and aggresive) rock climbs, ascents and descents for bikers, and lower level and flatter trails are available.
Michael Wolfson
Great place for an easy hike and the visitor center often has at or a naturalist exhibit about the desert.
Andrea Nolker

Omg i just hiked trail 306 and it was brutal for me. If your a beginner this is not the 1 for you. But i am proud of myself for doing it. Met some great girls. Naomi and Hanna. And Rob to hike with. We made it sll the way to the top by the satellite and down through the rocks. Yea it was brutal for me. But YAY I DID IT.
Josh Blanchette
Nice place to hike Shaw Butte, North Mountain, or cross over to eastern Trail 100 routes for hiking or mountain biking. Great views of most of the mountains in Phoenix.

Mariposa K
Nice hiking but map out your trail carefully as there are so many different trails and all too easy to get lost! My friend and I got lost and nearly overheated.
Victoria Arico
Love this place! Great hiking, beautiful scenery right in the heart of the city❤🌵 …
Nataraj Yegyanarayanan
Good place for hiking.ok trails could've been little better, but better than most around Phoenix
TravelingTK78
So clean and well maintained!!
Heather DeGrote
I routinely hike North Mountain and Shaw Butte, and I prefer to park at the North Mountain Visitor Center due the large amount of parking spaces, it seems relatively safe, and there are bathrooms and water fountains. It is very awkward that the women’s bathroom door was held open and there are no doors on the stalls. I had my friend stand in front of the stall crease to prevent someone from seeing in from outside (where the trail ends and is highly trafficked at times). Positively, the bathrooms seemed relatively clean.
Arash Razi
Well kept visitor area. The trails are well marked. Easy to moderate trails available.
Matt Mensinger
Great trails and clean area. Haven't been in a while. It was nice to see the improvements like more parking, park bathrooms and the main paved trail has been widened rails added and looks great.
Good climb on easy paved trail.
Michele Rosen
I love that it has all about the trails and a gift shop type of setting and the people that work behind the desk are very informative when we had questions about the heights. Awesome just awesome!

Jeffrey Kucko
Great place to hike. Head east from visitor center through tunnel and it's much less crowded. You can go through 2 more tunnels and hike to the 51.
Debbie Lee Whitescarver
Beautiful open spaces. Visitor center has knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Sajesh Enampurath
Great trails of all kinds and all ages! Well maintained
Trucker Ron
Been going here for years to hike and bike. It's a great place! The only thing that bothers me is people let their dogs poop all over the place and you have to be careful where you walk cuz there's lots of it. They should hire somebody to go around and clean it up or put up cameras so that they can identify the people who are doing it and fine them (maybe $50? It's got to be enough to make them think about their actions).
Artz of Pom Pom
PLEASE READ WHOLE THING!
North Mountain Visitor Center is a beautiful place to go hiking and explore. The reason it is kept so clean and trash free is because of the dedicated girl scouts who pickup trash around the grounds. So please everyone, do not litter. Thank you for reading this review and please like it! Stay safe! ;)
Also, that pretty globe like yellow flower that's all around in the spring here, it's called globe chamomile. IT IS A DANGEROUS WEED that must be removed. It is highly flammable and causes severe allergies in people. Don't believe me... See for yourself online. We need your help to remove this. Please take it out from the roots and dispose in a trash can.
Overall the north mountain visitor center is a wonderful place worth a trip. The staff are so friendly and helpful! Considerate and caring! It is immaculate inside!
Dong lilie
Lovely place close to my house. I have been doing volunteer work for more than 4 years at the visitors center here. I love all my colleagues who are so kind and helpful to every person coming to the center.
I myself do a lot of hikes here and love the beautiful scenery and wild lifes.
Jonathan Coffey
This is an absolutely great place to hike right in the heart of the city. It is so close to downtown and midtown making it easy to get out early morning hike and get great views of the city. Any visitor should spend time here and enjoy the desert without going off in the middle of nowhere. Despite its proximity, always bring water.
Lisa M.
Great walking/hiking trails.
Kurt Kimmerling
Great views from top of North Mountain butte.
Ñancy Marshall
The visitor center itself is architecturally lovely, with a helper desk, books and other items for sale, a children's meeting room, bathrooms, great art and photographs on the wall. Folks are friendly and helpful. They have good trails and trail maps for hikers, horses, mountain bikes. Your can support them with contributions as well. It's great!
Jocelyn Ruiz Dustan
A beautiful space staffed by volunteers. There is a children's reading and activity room, there are books and gift items for sale, and there is an atrium with beautiful acoustics for the music acts that perform here. Clean bathrooms. Dog friendly space. Rooms with events and classes which are also available to rent.
Mohamed Alkhafaji
Love this place been coming for years now 🙌 😍 …
Mary H (Elle)
The gentleman in the visitor's center was incredibly informed about the history of the center as well as the area. It was a great treat to learn so much history in such a short time. Some stories almost seemed surreal they seem so crazy now, about people who worked in the cinnabar mines and walked miles back after a day's work.
Keith Hobson
Many wonderful hiking and biking trails right in the North valley. Great for all levels of adventure.
Helen Brent
Clean visitor's center but there are no doors on the bathrooms, weird. Nice trail, lots of trailheads...just remember which one you departed from!
Kevin Atwood
I love it. The volunteer was very helpful and informative. Incredible photography of local wildlife and very clean. What a wonderful gift to the Southwest to have such a nature-conscientious organization volunteer-run and supported.
mr nimbus
I like this trail because it has the uphill climb to the relay station. they have ample parking and the visitor center is here too. I had a good hike and workout. It gets busy in the cooler months of year so plan early if you can.
David Walter
We are a group that homes at least one day per week. we try to mix things up and do a different trail on a different mountain each week. This week the 100 Trail.

The front desk lady was just so kind when I got to visit this place. The place was kind of hidden and not a lot of people knew about the visitor center either. She was very helpful and the pictures inside were all beautiful. The back area outside was also beautiful. I will definitely donate and contribute to this place.

Very impressive exhibits and photography highlighting a true gem in the valley: the mountain preserve right out our back door. Even long-time residents will learn something new about the history, plants and animals found near North Mtn/Shaw Butte. This is a great opportunity to hit the trails and see for yourself how wonderful the desert really can be! The friendly staff can recommend a suitable hike for anyone on nearly any occasion. Highly recommended!

We went on an overcast morning and the view was as good as it gets in Phoenix! Close to the city yet nature still boasts its untouched beauty.
Allen Wilson
It's a nice place to hike, nice views of the east and west valley.
Gera Madueño
I liked it, a good place also for the whole family and pets. And remember to bring water, it is very important. Regards, friends
Gerardo Madueño
I liked it, we had a good time with the children and the dog. The only thing. Take your water. Very important. Greetings friends and all the best for all

Good place, in the RV area it has electricity and water in the same space and the bathrooms are very clean but the area for camping in the tent leaves much to be desired. I do not recommend these spaces, they are not worth the price $22.00 much better to pay a little plus $32.00 and enjoy in the RV area and you can also camp in a tent, you can practice hiking.

It's very nice to walk, you don't get tired and you see little animals, like the roadrunner, we got lost with my cousin because everything looks alike. I recommend you go see the signs to find out how to return!
