Reviews of Alaska Train
Mike Spory
Got to ride this twice from Anchorage to Denali, then from Denali to Whittier. We got to see moose and a grizzly from the train. The staff are very engaging and responsive. Wonderful experience. The dining area was also a plus.
Mark Gibson
We rode both the Adventure Class train and the GoldStar Dome. Both are great, and provide better scenery and photo options than the motorcoach which travels the highway (which is still better than driving by the way). GoldStar is best for picture taking because they have an area where you are literally outside, hence no window glare.
Gerri Acri
Alaska Train was the best way to travel. So relaxing and beautiful scenery. Good food too! Took so many photos from the deck.
Juliet van Otteren
We have both traveled the world and this is some of the most breathtaking scenery we have ever seen traveling on the gold star from anchorage to Denali national park and back. What so impressed me was the wild! Vast areas of complete natural beauty and wild Nature untouched.
On our way to Denali we were served breakfast and lunch and it was very well done and tasty. Coming back from Denali to Anchorage we had lunch and dinner both were delicious, and quite a choice.

Beautiful scenery all the way💋The recommended trip from Fairbanks to Anchorage. No discounts offered if you buy 6months in advance (only applicable military and elderly discounts) …
Nick Bartlett
This was super fun. Great staff and beautiful views all the way from Anchorage to Seward. Dome car was pretty cool too; it was worth the extra cost to do once. The regular seats are pretty good as well.

Hubby decided to surprise me with the gold Star train ride from Fairbanks to Denali and back. Apparently he did not understand that the ticket included breakfast and 2 adult beverages on the way there and supper and 2 adult beverages on the way back. So we ended up eating 2 breakfasts and 2 suppers. Obviously not ideal. I ordered a whiskey sour on the way to Denali and it tasted like it had been made with a spiced rum so I didn't try another drink. The staff was very engaging. The seats were very comfortable. The food was ok but we weren't thrilled to have to eat at the same table with strangers. I guess they have to pair you up because of time constraints. We didn't see any wildlife along the way. Honestly the trees are so close to the train that you can't see much a lot of the trip, and when you can see the scenery, you are close to the highway so it's not like you are out in the middle of the wilderness. We ended up driving on that highway the next day and the scenery was much easier to see and had better vantage points. I know this sounds stupid, but we didn't realize that the train drops you off in the woods! Lol. I guess we assumed it would drop you off at a town with a visitors center. Nope! So unless you've preplanned a guided tour or an ATV trip, you will be wandering around the visitors center for 4 hours until the train comes back to get you. The visitors center is nice with exhibits, a cafe, bathrooms and is the start to several trails. However, 4 hours is a long time to be there with nothing else to see or do. Overall was the Gold Star train ride nice? Yes. Was it worth the extra money...not really. But now we can say that we've done it.

Would definitely recommend riding the train, upper level skydome, from Denali to Anchorage. Views are great, relaxing trip and we were able to move around the train including outside if we wanted.
Heather Bodkin
If you’re ready to explore the interior of Alaska in all its beauty, this is the way to do it! We boarded the train in Seward bound for Anchorage and were not disappointed with our ride nor the view! Picturesque way to get around inside Alaska from May through September (as that is the timeframe in which it runs).
Michael Dickens, CMfgE
We took the train to Seward, and the train to Denali. Both trips were outstanding! The food was great too!
David Rosenduft
Wilderness Express Dome Train - Just do. Staff really outstanding, with lots of info. Food Service was ok, who cares the Mountains, rivers were breathtaking. Make sure you spend time on the back open area, past the bathrooms, same level as dining.
Debbie Smith
Beautiful vistas, comfortable seats.. two main problems.. the windows were so dirty that my pictures were fuzzy and the public narration system is so very poor. Multiple people kept asking for the volume to be turned up and the workers did their best, but hardly any of the narration about the countryside could be heard.
Larry Clark
Great day spent with Brandy [railcar guide] and Mike [bartender].
Saw the mountain all day.

May 2022. We took the Alaska Railroad day trip to Seward with a 6 hour cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park. The train ride, staff, scenery and wildlife was all excellent. The ease of getting on the cruise from the train was great. And the Fjord cruise was beyond excellent. Calving glaciers, 3 kinds of whales, breathtaking scenery, delicious lunch and snack and great friendly staff. Highly recommend this wonderful tour.
Rebecca Molzahn
Awesome experience! I would recommend the Wilderness Express car over the Gold star Dome. Wilderness Express has better food options and the wait staff served you for a more luxury experience.
Frank LaDuca
The Gold Star Dome from Anchorage to Seward was phenomenal. The train staff was great, Special recognition to Bryce the young narrator and guide.
Brian Wade
Enjoyable, comfortable, scenic train ride from Denali to Anchorage. Great views and great food and service.

Lovely experience. We traveled from Anchorage to Denali in the wilderness Train. It was so much fun. The food was great. The staff was so awesome and entertaining. The views were spectacular. The whole time I was standing outside on the viewing deck. The time just flew by. I would do it again and this time will pick the route from Anchorage to Seward. Highly recommended. Must experience this journey on Train. Kids will love it.
Sammy Stafford
Very friendly staff and attentive! Very enjoyable view of beautiful landscapes and mountains of Alaska
Anandha Kuppusamy
Alaskan railroad service was awesome. They go slow giving ample time to enjoy the wonderful scenic beauty all along the route. Travelled between Anchorage and Seward and then from Talkeetna to Denali in August 2021.
Dome car views are wonderful and enjoyable.
Jorgie Lane
This was the best part of our trip!!! It is simply the best way to see Alaska. The train is comfortable and perfect for the whole family
Arnette Quick
Very clean. Wonderful views with narration. From Seward to Anchorage with 2 very short stops. Great security at station.
Erin Reschke
We had the BEST time. We rode the train on our honeymoon trip to Denali. We let the staff know at the check-in counter that we were honeymooning, and we got a free upgrade to Gold Star! It was super comfortable and the views were phenomenal.
Terry Bixler
We connected with the train in Anchorage from our Holland cruise ship. A beautiful train ride thru the Alaskan wilderness.
Mike Richardson
We did 2 different trains, The Alaska Railroad and the Wilderness Express. The dome trains are awesome, service is fantastic and it is such a great way to travel. We loved it and would 100% recommend it.
Emily Banks
Words cannot express the memories that were made on this trip. if it is one of the only things you ever do while you visit Alaska or even live here. You have to do this. The staff was amazing. Vern the conductor was so on point. Dale the chef was fabulous. The food was superior. Hunter my waiter was very cordial with an eye for perfection and attention. The whole experience was absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable. Thank you all so much for the wonderful memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Thomas Larabee
I love the Alaska Railroad. My personal favorite is the Hurricane Run. It's a Diesel Railcar that goes halfway to Fairbanks from Anchorage. It delivers the mail and people, and stops anywhere along the route. Great scenery and conversation with the locals who live along the route. I highly recommend it.
Roberta Robbins
We started our trip in fair banks, to denali, to Anchorage, to Whittier all by train. The train was great, it was clean, the very common dating. Nice staff in the dining Hall although we did not eat on the train. Nice commentary in the dome car when they see wildlife but it's very hard to spot it sometimes. Get your seats in the freedom car as early as possible. They like to rotate people who stay there for a long period of time.
David Wood
This 11 hour trip is a great way to see Alaska in the winter.
Tejaswi Kotaru
Loved the AlaskaRail experience. We took gold star service to Seward from anchorage and it was very memorable. The food was great and you get two free alcoholic, unlimited non alcoholic beverages.
Todd Gardner
My wife and I along with close friends took the Alaska Railroad train from Anchorage to Seward Alaska. It ended up being the highlight of our trip. Very clean, and comfortable cars... endless scenery and great information on the history and the operation of the railroad system.. don't miss this opportunity.
Steven Schindler
There is nothing better than taking the train through Alaska's wilderness areas. Even if the wildlife sightings are sparse, just the natural scenery is worth the price of the trip. Highly recommend the domed trains, whatever level.
My next time will be Anchorage to Juneau or as far north as I can go.
Christy B
I can not say enough good things. Everything from the excellent information available on their website to the very firendly and patient people who answered my questions on the phone and helped me book our train trips. Although, I do not end up booking a complete train tour package through them, I did use them to book our various train trips (only because my family isn’t crazy about motor coaches and they wanted to take the train all of the way up to Denali and back down to Anchorage at our own pace). However, on that note, I do want to say that even though we didn’t book a train package we were able to book the train portions of our trip (all 3 of them) and the price we received for the Gold Star service on all of the legs was less than booking through the Alaska Railroad directly. If you are looking to take the train for any or all of your trip, I highly suggest looking into Alaska Train’s prices and availablility. I found that they had more seat choice options available at a better price then Alaska Railroad did. If anyone is looking to use the train during their time in Alaska, I recommend you checking out Alaska Train’s website. It’s packed with all kinds of great information, tips and pictures which I found particularly helpful while plannng our trip. If you are looking for a deal on some great Alaska tour travel packages, check out their website and packages first. I found that more often their individual (a la carte) pricing was better then I was able to find anywhere else. And trust me, I searched everywhere, it took me over 2 years to plan and book our two week trip. Good luck and I hope your Alaskan vacation is as enjoyable and memoriable as our was. :-)

We loved the train trip from Anchorage to Denali. The dining car is lovely, a bit on the expensive side, but very nice. The staff on the train were fun and they even had a great bartender!

Wow a journey on Alaska rail is so worthwhile. We booked through AKASKA TOUR AND TRAVEL in the dome carriage which is the way to go. We travelled by train from DEMALI to FAIRBANKS / FAIRBANKS to ANCHORAGE and ANCHORAGE to SEWARD. Awesome views, great staff. Food is provided in the ticket plus two alcoholic drinks (if you want). Memorable. SHARYN

Karen Nelson
The train was clean and comfortable. We made a few too many stops, which made the ride seem overly long. It was a little disappointing to see the highway, which seemed to run parallel a lot of the trip.
R Schorsch
