This thrift store is Truly one really Awesome thrift store. They do have great prices! (like thrift stores should have) Not like G***will & other high price thrift stores nowadays gouging $$$$$ from customers. When a thrift store is opened to the public the "purpose is" it's helping people whom can't afford brand new clothing &or misc household items. Some folks just have barely enough monies for their household toiletries, let alone Brand New clothing & or misc items, etc. So to find something that one is in need of, or a Dire need for whatever, but can't afford to purchase anything brand new. This Store is very fair & has many reasonably priced item's for a unbeatable cost to all of their Customers for whom ever happens to venture into this thrift store. Take a step back in time to second hand store purchases & able to buying items @ a WOW price, When price wasn't such a big issue on used clothing or misc household items & were one could & "still can" get great prices on good deals.

3/23/22 These people made my day great. My late husband had a room full of collectibles. My 2 nephews cleaned out the entire room for me. DAV came within 2 days and picked up everything. 1 man loaded it all in the truck. It took 12 ft of trailer space. When I called to schedule the pick up , the person was very friendly and helpful. Listen to my concerns and called the next day to verify the pick up time and date. I will always support our veterans. Feeling blssed.

Love to browse this place, and sometimes wonder the story each item has. I have found some really sweet things there for an even sweeter price. A good place for finds, and knowing that the Dollar you spend goes to our nation's great veterans, I only have one negative comment about this great place. And that would be, I wish some of the workers would not be in such a rush to have you out of the store a 1/2 hour before its time to close. And to even greet you with a disgruntled "We close in 30 minutes." OK... G..

I love the DAV honestly, there's always something to be found there and always new things to sift through. Not to mention the prices and the fact that they have awesome sales. It's a bit cluttered and discombobulated from all of the people coming in and out and shuffling product around but I get it, it's busy and there's always someone on the floor trying to keep it put to rights. Just went there today actually, it's always a fun treasure hunt!

Great thrift store. Everything is crazy cheap and there's a some good finds. Perfect if you're looking for old furniture and glassware. That stuff is made to last on the Eastside so while not the prettiest, it's going to last awhile. We've purchased quite a few things here and they work really well in our house

This was my first trip into this second hand store. Not a bad little remodel of the old per what my Girlfriend says. She loves the deals and we both love helping the Veterans of War.

Get there within 10 minutes of opening, and stick around for about 45 minutes while they are loading the shelves. Things get pretty well picked over as the day progresses. There can be long wait at the checkout, but a little patience and time management will make it all worthwhile. Finally, beware of cursed objects. While at the DAV and Goodwill outlet stores, I often hide rare germs. They are also a dumping ground of the Damned Congregation of the Digital Warlord’s tainted tchotchke. These tainted knickknacks can be identified by their catfish-bait smell and their slightly off appearances/expressions. More often than not, the figurines will be missing a hand or finger. If purchased, they can bring weeks to months of bad luck, but they eventually return to the congregation member who tried to dispose of their guilty token. Professional thrift store explorers can be identified by their use of gloves, which they hope will protect them from the bad juju.

Great selection with fair prices, and this 501-c3 thrift store is run by and for disabled veterans. It's a bit disorganized, and is constantly busy, so they obviously could use more staff. I have found some wonderful treasures here!

Feels more like a kids clothes garage sale. Not a lot of excitement and kind of that old clothes smell.. Regardless of this there is an occasional bargain and it's cheaper to shop here than elsewhere when you need something. Adequate.

This is hands down my most favorite thrift store ever. Wonderfully reasonable prices, great variety, and they always have a great selection of shoes! A popcorn machine and old 33rpm record albums for sale keep my elderly dad going back, too. A real gem.

I love going to the DAV on E University DM. I have purchased many items through the years and enjoyed the employees who are always courteous, cheerful and helpful!! There have been some very nice updates done in the store, making it more helpful and enjoyable to shop. I also enjoy seeing my friends there and always enjoy the delicious popcorn!!!

Big store, variety of selection. I did find a good buy this trip. Overall this trip I was disappointed to find some of their pricing $2-$3 higher on simular items I've found in other thrift stores in better condition. I am happy to make a donation at the register to support their mission, but not to overpay for items in poor condition. In the past, they were a go to.

Like many thrift shops during this time. Many items have stayed on the shelves. I suggest that changing the idea that these different locations are going to di business differently. Covid19 has effected even the way thift shops operate. It just isnt cost effective to accept new items. Make sure they are sanitized and warehoused for 14 business days. Items are being left on shelves in hopes someone will pur hasrcthem to make way for the items that literally sit in que. I not only purchase but donate. I have bee turned away due to the lask of storage space. I requested to speak to the one in charge of the new procedures. I was turned down. Thi king if more peopme who purchase and those who donate ask why old merchandise is left unpurchased? This is cutting into their sales and then contributing to the lack if employees currently being able to work full time. The state may understand the emergency to make all areas safe for its citizen's but giving out demands of upheaval in our small business processes without offering solutions discourages me and others to support our local businesses.

I was very pleased with the service I received. After a city wide garage sale north of Ames they made a special trip to pick up a truck load of items. My phone messages were returned quickly and I was treated with respect. This is a wonderful organization I have used several times in another state and will donate to them again without hesitation!

The prices are great at DAV, as long as the staff actually tagged the item. Unfortunately, a thorough cleaning has been desperately needed for the past 30 years. For a charity that claims to service the veteran population, it sure doesn't stand to reason that they don't know how to buff the floor or shine the brightwork.

Fantastic thrift store. I especially like this one, not only for it's good prices, but because I am a disabled veteran. My veteran's service officer is from the DAV and they have worked hard for me. I love supporting them to help them support other disabled vets like me.

In the past when they sold stuff used to be all together now some of the parts are missing I bought a Christmas tree last year and cost almost $29 and they didn't bother telling the limbs were not there so I got 1/2 incomplete Christmas tree but they do have cheap stuff there it's just they don't check it out like they're supposed to

I agree with Heather Ryan. I donated some items for the first time a few weeks ago and while I'm glad it was busy I noticed they really need to mop the floors and maybe rearrange how they have things set up. It seemed a bit disorganized, but they also don't have a lot of space, so I'm sure they do the best they can. Looks like it needs a pro to just organize the situation.
