Lake Hood Seaplane Base started out as two smaller lakes: Lake Hood to the west and Lake Spenard to the east. Back in the 1970s, the state began dredging out a canal in between the two to create seaplane takeoff and taxi lanes. Today, Lake Hood is host to nearly 200 daily operations and has become the largest and busiest seaplane base in the world.

Very beautiful place for a quick visit on a summer day. A lit of planes ✈️ take off and land in the water, the view is beautiful and interesting. A lot of parking spaces are available and a few park benches are available to sit and watch as the planes land and take off. We took some pastries and spent around 1 hour watching the planes. Must visit this place of you have some relaxing day planned.

Parking/Entrance is in the 'back' facing the lake. Staff is friendly and accommodating. If you go on a weekday in winter you'll more or less have the whole place to yourself.

A unique seaplane outdoor parking area. Teenagers as young as 16 obtain flight lessons, since this is as customary, as driving a car. This place is quite unique and some customize their spots with gardens and little areas to relax. For those of us accustomed to car parks, this was quite a treat.

This place... Go here... If you are an avid pilot or aviation enthusiast, this place deserves your homage. Why? Only because it's the largest seabase in the world and is right there in anchorage. I have never seen so many pontoon aircraft in my life, nor have I seen pontoon aircraft taking off and landing so many times in a day/evening. A pretty amazing sight. What's even more spectacular is how the airport is planned out. You have this seabase that borders (joins) with Ted Stevens International and strategically positioned in such a way that it's magnificent. Kudos to the design planners! I hope other Yelpers, who have visited this place or walk along it's beautiful trails; which is along the lake's edge, with views of so many different types of aircraft, will consider posting about it. It's a beautiful upscale community with plenty of warm and friendly people.

Fascinating place! My wife and I sat at a picnic table for an hour just watching the seaplanes coming and going. Definitely a must see.
