First piercing EVER! It was not as bad as I thought. Yeah it hurt but Austin made the entire experience calming. He was obviously super respectful to me and my body. He always asked how I was and let me guide the way. I would highly recommend to anyone! Going back again!

Decided to finally get my septum pierced, and was so nervous! I did a ton of research and landed on Color Theory based off the great reviews and good experience my sister had getting her tattoo there. Alex is the best!! I had an absolutely fantastic experience! They made me feel completely at ease and walked me through the entire process. It hurt, but not as much as I thought it would. In love with it so much!! Healing also went fantastic and I'm headed back in soon to change it out for another look. Thank you Color Theory!💜💜

My husband and I have gotten a lot of tattoos from Will Coy. Will is absolutely incredible and a well rounded artist who can do various types of tattoo styles. I have also seen the work of the other artists in the shop. They are all polite, laid back and friendly a group of people. The Color Theory shop is always very clean, there are TVs at every chair. I have also gotten piercings from two of the piercers at their shop and got a jewelry swap. Both of them were super informative, glad to help with positioning of the piercing adjustment of the ring size. For first timers, they provide instructions on aftercare for all services.

My friend & I got some ear piercings done by Alex and he was absolutely awesome. Super funny, nice, and knowledgeable. Piercings are done by walk-in only (as far as I know) but we only waited about 15 minutes. There’s places to sit & even a movie to watch while you wait. Would highly recommend this shop and I will definitely be back!

Ci did my tattoo this week and I love it! I had a great experience from start to finish there. Came in for a consult, paid my deposit and scheduled my appointment for about three weeks later. Super happy with the sketch that Ci did for me, placement was perfect and his work is great. Shop is super clean (people were dusting all the artwork and cleaning all the bar stools while I was in there), they have a totally killer movie selection and everyone I interacted with, including the other clients were friendly. Ci is great to talk with, super cool guy and the conversation flowed easily. I’ll be back for my next one for sure and would absolutely recommend them. I see some comments on here about prices being high. I think you get what you pay for and tattoos aren’t something I bargain buy. These people are artists in an industry where time is money and overhead costs to provide clean safe tattoos exist. I discussed rates up front at my consult and there were no surprises. To me the value is there and worth the money you pay.

I have gotten 6 tattoos from Color Theory, I will never go anywhere else for a tattoo. They are such talented artists, great people, the shop is extremely comfortable to be at, and it’s extremely clean and safe. I’m a Type 1 Diabetic, so I have an increased chance for infection/things take longer to heal. I have never had any problems with how my tattoos heal and look after. I will always very confidently recommend them to friends, I love this shop and can’t wait to get back in for my next one.

My sister and I have wanted piercings for a while and a friend recommended this place- it was amazing! Alex was our piercer and they were very professional and clearly experienced. At the first sign of faintness (I'm not great with blood) they instantly had cold water, a fan, and patience. They were super careful to stay clean, announcing every glove change, and took extra care to wipe away blood before I saw it. Highly highly recommend Color Theory.

The shop was super clean and well lit. All the artist were friendly and knowledgeable about what they were doing and the art was amazing on the walls. Loved all the open stations and TV on the walls, it made it a fun and open atmosphere in the shop. Brittany was my artist for my visit and I was so impressed by her. She was amazingly detail oriented and made sure I was happy with every aspect of the tattoo even before we started on the stencil application. Brittany also has a very light hand at tattooing that I found super comforting and gentle at times, definitly one of my best tattoo sessions to date. Definitely will be going back for more work either from her or any of the other artist in the shop as they all are great at what they do.

Had my first tattoo done here by an apprentice. He stayed after hours and it came out great. Healing was a walk in the park and this apprentice had such a light hand that I almost fell asleep in the process. 10/10 recommend this place and I have found my black and white guy. There was another artist working on a friend at the same time, and he was able to help us with the placement while still working on my friend. His tattoo came out great as well.

I came in for essentially a simple touch-up of an existing tattoo. While the touch-up was done well and with care, I thought it was quite overpriced ($140 for like 5 minutes worth of work, whereas the original tattoo itself cost half of that). If you're going in for relatively simple requests, I would recommend going to another shop. You'd be paying a premium here, regardless of the nature of the work, for their experience and reputation.

I highly recommend Brandon Mola for a tattoo. He has done two of mine so far and they are amazing! He is friendly and has good vibes which makes me relaxed. The shop is really nice, with movies playing which is a nice distraction.

Went in today initially for a tragus piercing, but Teddi informed me that my tragus was too small to be pierced (which I had thought about before), so I got a conch piercing instead. Teddi did an amazing job!! The pain was way less than I thought it would be, and she was very thorough explaining the cleaning instructions as well as walking me through the piercing process. Color Theory was so clean inside and everybody was very friendly. I will definitely be going back for my next piercing!

I was a walk in and was immediately greeted by the one of the friendliest guys (sorry I didn’t catch his name) and we talked about the tattoo I was hoping to get and in under 30 minutes I was met by Jerry, who was friendly, and super professional. His line work is incredible, and he has a gentle hand that makes the tattooing process painless. They also have some pretty cool movies playing constantly on the TVs which made it an even more relaxed experience then the other tattoo shops I’ve been to. Can’t recommend this place enough, especially if you’re looking for a clean, friendly, professional, and all around awesome tattoo shop.

He provided a few different options of placement to make sure I was getting pierced exactly where I wanted. I cant say enough good things about this place. Staff always treats there customers with courtesy and kindness. Always willing to work you in there schedule and give you the exact tattoo you want. I had tattoos from three different people and all of them came out awesome. Ruben, Freddie, and Brandon are all awesome artists and I feel more than comfortable letting them put art on my body. Mad props to Brandon though, super cool dude and great artist. Enjoy his tattooing and also his company while im there. Jimmy at Color Theory Tattoo is one of the best. He is friendly and professional, with great artistic talent. Choosing to work with him and his studio was the right decision. I had to find a new artist and shop when my previous artist became unavailable. After reading many reviews online I kept seeing positive experiences with Color Theory and all who work there. I ended up visiting the studio and found it to be clean and beautifully designed. I set an appointment with Jimmy that same day I visited. During my appointment it was easy to see how sanitary the shop and their practices are, including all necessary COVID-19 precautions. For these reasons, and the fact that working with Jimmy was very comfortable, made for a positive experience. Jimmy's work was perfect. I was so happy with everything that I made another appointment right away. Two tattoos in two months with Jimmy at Color Theory and I know I found my new shop. Nice place to get yourself inked — can't wait to go back for more work!

**UPDATED 7/16/21** I got a tattoo with James West last week and it's the most beautiful thing I've ever gotten. I knew generally what I wanted but had no idea on specifics. He took so much time helping me make decisions, and the final result is glorious. I will never go to another place for a tattoo again period. WHETHER YOU'RE GETTING YOUR FIRST TATTOO OR YOUR 10TH TATTOO GO TO COLOR THEORY!! -- I got a tattoo with Ci yesterday and he was awesome!! Super professional and so nice to talk to. This is my second tattoo from Color Theory - I can't remember who did my first one, but he was great too. Both times the artists took a LOT of time to make sure the placement was perfect. I appreciate that they treat customers getting small pieces with the same care and precision as customers getting large, expensive pieces. 10/10 would recommend coming here (and seeing Ci)!!

This place is by far one of the best places I’ve gone to get work done! It’s clean! Comfortable! ALL the artist are nice & there to help if you have any questions!! Personally I recommend KiNg WiLL!! He’s seriously one of the best artist that has done pieces on me! He’s almost done with my second pc I got from him! His line work& attention to detail & omg the shading!!!! Forget about it!! His shade game literally makes the entire pc!!! He’s an amazing artist & even though he’s booked out like 2 months, he’s totally worth the wait! I’m repping for king will bc he’s was recommended to me by someone else. I have not gotten any ink from any other artist at that shop so I’m Not at all saying like he’s the only one to go to! Yeah king will is great & an amazing artist, but there are like 5 other artist that work at Color Theory & I’ve seen some of their work & that to was great work! So I general I think Color Theory as a whole is one of the best shops to get a tattoo bc of quality of the business, how they treat you ( the customer) & the amount of talent under 1 roof!!!!! After searching many tattoo parlors trying to decide where to go, I landed on Color Theory, not just because it’s close to my house but I saw good reviews online and also had a friend recommend it. Tattoo is gonna be so beautiful and meaningful but they are also very expensive so you want to make sure you’re getting your moneys worth and the pricing is reasonable. I wanted a portrait of my dog for like five years now and I finally saved up enough money to do it. My tattoo was done by Will Coy and I seriously could not be happier. I gave him a picture of my dog and my tattoo looks EXACTLY like the picture. I cried a little when I saw the finished product. The price was about what I expected and fair. It’s a fun atmosphere and I will definitely be going back to Will for the rest!!! Thank you guys so much for helping me achieve a dream I’ve had in mind for a long time! I would love to add a picture of it but I don’t see an option to do that for some reason....?

Also tattoo places already have to be sanitary, so during this time of COVID, they're doing a great job and I felt very safe.

I have more than a dozen tattoos and know my shops well...decided to come here while in town and came in for a walk-in for the first time. I was immediately impressed with the layout and professional atmosphere - very clean, presents itself as a really nice establishment. This tattoo was relatively small and plain black, but I couldn’t be happier with the result. Fred was able to take me quickly and did a spectacular job. I’d highly recommend this place to others looking for a high quality design and execution as well as a reasonable price point. I would definitely return here for future tattoos.

Had a tribute tattoo of my deceased mother's handwriting. The first walk in was a smooth process to set my appointment. I emailed Danny the images and he replied pretty quickly acknowledging he received my email. The space is very welcoming and clean. The movie playing was Step Brother's...need I say more?!! That helped calm my nerves and distract the anxiety approaching since this was my first tattoo. Danny had a great bedside manner..he was thorough with the stencil application and explained the process and detailed after care. I highly recommend this place ! If I ever get another one, this will be the same spot I will go to.

Ci is probably the most respectful, genuine piercers I have met. He helped me take out my unwanted piercings as well as get my nose piercing done in less than 20 minutes! I didn’t have to wait and I felt like I was welcome the moment I walked in the door. I have passed this place dozens of times on St. Charles, but one step in and it’s fairly clear the place is a sharp, clean, professional parlor. Prices were if anything cheap in my opinion and I will definitely be back!

First impression of the shop is that it’s clean!! All the guys there are super nice and understanding. Scheduled an appointment with Brandon. Down payment amount was acceptable and is taken off the total cost of the tattoo. When I arrived for my tattoo, Brandon was super chill and patient when it came to sizing and placement. I read the great reviews and drove from Oak Park to get a tattoo in December. I spoke to Will and he was booked until February 11, 2022. I had a photo of the word Mahola which means gratitude in Hawaii. But I didn’t like the color. After placing a $60 deposit via Venmo (no credit cards accepted) I emailed Will the photo. 2 months later I arrive for my appointment and Will was ready and showed me his drawing. I loved it and that’s what you see in the photo in red. I sat in his chair and every station had a flat screen TV and they were playing Coco. I sat down at 12:30 and at 1:00 he was done! This is my 23rd tattoo and I’ve never seen an artist go so fast. I was shocked. He placed a plastic adhesive cover latex free over the tattoo and said after 2 days wash with soap & water. I bought Hustle Butter from Amazon which is amazing and had the best tattoo recovery ever. No scabbing barely any itching. Awesome experience.

A little out of the way for me but the piercer was really great. Super relaxed, informative, simple. The first time I got my tongue pierced it hurt like hell, barely even felt this one going through. I respect that he's cautious with swelling too and said to come back for my second. Was going to get a sinple tattoo but they have an $80 minimum, ah well.

Walked in one day asking what it would cost to get a certain tattoo and then I walked out there with an appointment for the weekend and a down deposit to get it done. Very clean and thorough on what they do and to make sure that you're not allergic to anything they will use. I had Freddie as my artist and will probably get more from him. Best experience for the first time of getting a tattoo. Just walking in the door you knew you went to the right place. I would advise you to go get a tattoo from these guys because if your artist doesn't know your fandom another one will and joke around with you and your artist. One f them came over to see how I was doing and asked if I had food today. I did but he said you're still getting some candy. When we were done with the tattoo we were all thinking of what tattoo I should get next. I hope to come again really soon.

Was recommended to Beto by Keith Semple (local musician-look him up!) after I asked him who did his kick ass sleeve-it's so colorful and I knew I had to have his artist! I had a small one done by Beto last year (which I LOVE) and just had a cover up done a few days ago. He blew me away with the cover up because I thought there was no hope for the 10+ year old tattoo but I gave him my ideas and let him work his magic. There's a reason why he is booked so far out and why he has won so many awards: the guy is a true master at his art. The studio itself is immaculate, welcoming and a true reflection of the artists there. It actually looks more like an art gallery. Everyone there is very nice, funny and make you feel comfortable the minute you walk in the door. Do NOT hesitate to get your ink done here! You may have to wait a bit but it's SO worth it to get real quality work done.

People seem to keep blaming the owner for not allowing service dogs in his Peircings and tattoo shop, and the rest of you commend jimmy for keeping his shop so clean. That is because the shop and artist areas must be sterile to avoid infection, in both the disabled person and future clients. Would you let a service dog in an operating room? Would you let a service dog in a burn unit, No! When you tattoo and peirce you are opening your body, creating a wound, and need to prevent infection. This is incredibly different that a non invasive drs appt or dentist. A dog compromises a sterile setting. After you get a tattoo done, everything is sterilized, including the chair you sat in. Would you like a dog hair to end up in your next tattoo? No, you would probably give this shop zero stars. Now whose fault would that be? I have 7 years experience managing a tattoo and piercing shop, service dogs are allowed in the waiting room, but not in any of the tattoo / piercing rooms.
