Falling Is Just Like Flying

I am so beyond lucky to have such talented and wonderful friends I asked Emilee Rivers to design a tattoo for me with literally zero constraints, the only extra information I gave her was that my best friend and godmother passed unexpectedly in March and she LOVED mice, she even collected them! To say walking in this morning to see this surprise piece made me beyond elated is an understatement, and seeing it on my body afterward brought me very nearly to tears. Thank you so much, Em, I will treasure this piece for the rest of my life and I can’t think of a better way to honour Aunt Liz 💖

Erika was my tattoo artist. She is amazing!!! She drew this wonderful fox, moon, sunflower design for me that incorporated everything I asked for. Her line work is impressive as is her attention to detail. She made the experience itself fun while we talked. Everything was very clean and hygienic, with plastic wrap or single use coverings on everything. Even after those came off she still sanitized everything to be extra careful.

Their inquiry process is very simple, scheduling was easy, and they provided me all the education I would need on caring for my new artwork. Kintaugi is a COVID-conscious studio and they are taking excellent precautions to keep staff and clients safe. I loved being able to collaborate with Rami on my tattoo and her talent is so clearly displayed in the attention to the fine details. I am already working to schedule my next pieces.

Rami is truly Boise's hidden gem. If you want a unique, astounding piece that will be with you forever, look no further than her. I'd have happily traveled across the country for a piece done by her - she's that good - and completely lucked out that she's in the same city. I randomly came across Rami on Instagram while in the middle of weeks-long mission to find an artist to cover a 15 year old ankle tattoo that had been partially lasered off. I did not have high hopes of a good outcome because the original tattoo was so oddly placed, and most of the blue/purple ink would not come off. To add insult to injury, I wanted it covered in a black and white piece. Good job, 15-years-ago-me. We had a brief consult where she examined the existing tattoo and got some ideas of what I was looking for in a coverup. I have an extremely intricate left arm sleeve and wanted elements of that incorporated into the new tattoo. I didn't give Rami a whole lot to go from and thought this coverup project was going to be a nightmare for her (or any artist). The day of the appointment rolls around - I hadn't seen any of the concepts yet. She showed me several possible pieces and I immediately wished I had three ankles, or at least more available real estate. Choosing between the designs she'd created was almost impossible - they were all some of the best work I'd ever seen and truly wanted them all. I was astounded that she came up with those designs from what little information I'd given her. We settled on one and she painstakingly went to work tweaking things to accommodate the odd placement. She spent almost 90 minutes making sure everything would be perfect before she even started tattooing - and it absolutely was. The tattooing process itself was such a breath of fresh air. Every single time I've ever been tattooed in the past, my skin has been horribly bruised and turning black and blue in the days after. Not this time. Rami's soft touch with the needle meant no bruising or swelling whatsoever the next day, and very minimal pain while being tattooed. I've had 175+ hours of tattooing done and this was truly a first. She's not the least bit afraid of fine lines like so many tattoo artists seem to be. Her technique is out of this world. The ankle tattoo is now all of three days old and I've already have several people stop me in public to ask who did it. It's that eye-catching. Rami also did a small, intricate tattoo on my finger while we were at it. I had an existing blown out tattoo on a neighboring finger that initially I'd just wanted her to clean up. Halfway through my new finger tattoo, I made the decision to have the existing tattoo removed. Having tattoos lasered off SUCKS, especially on bony areas. Not something I wanted to go through again. But having the opportunity to have another Rami piece instead of what is there now was a no-brainer. The shop itself is immaculately clean (with a very friendly Roomba), comfortable, bright, and easy to find. Plenty of street parking in a safe, well-lit area. Rami is also a true professional - so quick to respond to emails, accommodating, and organized. Can't wait for my next piece with you, Rami!
