Reviews of Marie Laveau's House Of Voodoo
Celeste
This place is a must stop when you’re in New Orleans. Upon walking in you are transported to another time of mystic and wonder. The ceiling is decorated with gorgeous deities and gods. We got a ton of souvenirs and the T-shirt’s are so awesome we bought multiple. The owner of the shop was effortlessly cool. Loved it!
Taos Jones
Really cool place. Employees are really nice. Don't go in thinking you're going to vlog your visit or take photos inside. Be respectful and no cameras. Its always really busy, but they have some cool things in there. Definitely make the stop!
Saint Dávila
Absolutely wonderful shop. This metaphysical shop is fully stocked with all kinds of supplies for your spiritual needs and not just Voodoo stuff they have it all including Buddhist, folk magic, Catholic witch supplies and more. Everything for almost every spiritual tradition from candles to incense to prayer beads, oils and magic potions. The store looks really cool inside as well. You're not allowed to take pics inside the shop to maintain its sacredness and allure. So I've included a pic of some of their merchandise. Blessed it be 🙏
JoAnna Grabert
I'm a featured artisan... I make really pretty handcrafted bead skull earrings for the Voodoo shop. Go check them out.
Sandy Chavez
This shop has a mystical feel to it, they sell all kinds of charms and amulets and awesome souvenirs. I loved coming here we got some gris gris bags and other charm bracelets and tshirts
Lisha's Life
Really cool store I bought a milagros charm, hopefully brings good vibes.
Olivia
Very tiny inside. Paid $11 per person to enter. No tour guide or verbal explanations of practices. Small informational plaques next to artwork and statues, offerings to Gods, etc. Very small giftshop. I'm actually surprised that there isn't a larger museum dedicated to voodoo considering it's history in New Orleans. I feel like there should be a way bigger building with way more stuff to fully honor the practice.
Haley Broaddus
LOVE this shop. I think I went into it 5+ times while I was here over the weekend.
I really love learning about the history of New Orleans. This is a fantastic place to visit!!
Zack Mottillo
I found the perfect gift for my precious princess for this valentimes day! This place definitely has a great selection of whatever you need to get right! Come get you some!
Charlie Glear
Interacted with an associate named Bella. They were fantastic, approachable, super friendly and very helpful.
All this place aska is that you respect the culture, the history, and don't take photos or videos. This isn't your average novelty shop. This is a bona-fide place to learn about voodoo, hoodoo, and the history behind the "spooky" side of New Orleans.
Celina Stanley
I love this place! Hope to come back soon!
Joseph Michel
This place has some really cool and authentic voodoo products, and even if you're not in the market to buy anything it's still interesting to go in and look around.
Alexis Laub
Cute little shop, and friendly staff. Well priced. Will definitely come back again
Cher Hukill (Cherthalove)
Sight seeing, we went to a bunch of other shops like this. None were really like this one. This place has such good energy, diverse religious items, books & good prices that were slightly lower than other shops. I loved the store so much. Definitely a spot to visit if you’re on Bourbon Street.
Georgialle Owens
Recieved an amazing reading here and a few spiritual goods
Brett Heppler
No photos allowed, pretty small and crowded but fun to just see and experience it I suppose, a “reading” costs fifty bucks, most voodoo dolls are 25, lots of herbs and smelly things, healing rocks, magnets, rings and other Voodoo and Hoodoo and such.
Crystal Herzog
Cool place to stop by. Grumpy workers.
Leslie Brown
Loved stopping in to a place my dad used to visit whenever he came to town. It was hard to choose a souvenir!
CounterStrike Coffee
Tight quarters and ya can't take pictures, but it is worth going in. Don't mind the satanic statue hanging high in the ceiling looking down on you...lol. talk to the workers in there about the history. Talk to some of the guards in there. They all have stories to tell. Just don't take pictures...it's not nice for the spirits...
tarese lewis
It was such a fun experience. They had a lot to offer and I couldn’t decide, but ultimately left with an evil eye bracelet. I wanted to get a reading here but there’s a wait and the reading is like $50. Regardless, it’s an experience you wanna be there for.
Also, they don’t let you take pics in there.
Mark McQuade
Neat place lots of cool stuff I would include pics but youre not allowed to take any in the store.
Laura Plata
Definitely feel a vibe there. They also do readings which a local person said were eerily accurate. Sell herbs, potions, icons, etc. Whatever you do, Don't look up! No cameras are allowed.
Adam Pocius
You can't use photos in this small shop on Bourbon street, but you will find a collection of masks, voodoo doll, and other voodoo materials here. Be sure to look up when in the middle of the store for an awesome view...
Angel Ramirez
This store contained a lot of unique crafts, statues, and memorabilia. Make sure to read all the signs when coming in and don't take pics.
My reason for not giving 5 stars is bc the cashiers are not welcoming, they're just there to do their job and get it over with, from what it seems.
Amarillo Doe
I've been previously and enjoyed it. I had a coworker that is related to Dr. Buzzard and she told me about a lot of various practices he's done. My parents stopped by a couple months ago because I'm trying to buy a house and they wanted to see if there was anything I could get to help. They gave us a gris gris bag, a talisman for my altar, and a turtle pendant. I've seen over a dozen houses in the past couple of months and the first time wearing the turtle to the most recent home, I was able to submit an offer and it was approved! Initially I kind of thought the title seemed stupid and dorky, but now I cherish it and can't wait to have it proudly on display in my new home. Thank you so much h for your help!
Also I think it's interesting that voodoo was brought over with the enslaved and the house I am getting just so happens to be a sharecroppers house for the freed.... just an odd twist of fate maybe?
KOKO'S RANDO REVIEW
I was in NOLA last month and this store was a planned stop for me. I agree that it is a little touristy but still a great store with some good finds. I visited the city with my dog and was able to get into to the store with no problems. I was able to give my donation and respect to an alter that was situated to the left and browse around in peace without anyone asking me to leave because of my pup.... though I was carrying him in his tote by that point. I would recommend asking if you can bring your dog in before simply walking in purely out of respect. If i had a complaint it would be the size of the store and that is a little small for the amount of tourist traffic that they receive. I can't imagine visiting the middle of NOLA heat.
G Torres
Interesting place to visit. I wasn't into the voodoo dolls but I did take some amethyst stones back home for protection. Definitely a must in New Orleans
Jose Maldonado Davalos
No Photos, No Video, No Live Streaming! - Love It!
This shop is not what you think it will be when you read the sign, it has a lot of different items for sale, some voodoo, some Santeria, some just knickknacks for tourist. It provides some herbs and different ingredients but not a verity as much as i thought it would be, the prices are a bit higher since it is located in the French quarter on Bourbon Street. ** No this is not where Marie lived or practice her craft**
Keith Collier
Great place, found everything i was looking for, the lady up front was really helpful and informative, i love my dolls and the bracelet, also purchased some of the oils and the Dragon blood got me many compliments at work
Keith Kelley
Take your time to see everything, there is a lot to take in. Be mindful of the store policies(No pictures/video) The employees are very helpful and knowledgable. We also played respect to Marie Laveau.
Zachary Hunter
Got my first tarot reading ever here. Such a fun experience and so unique to New Orleans. Lots of great stuff for sale.
Stephanie Smith
Excellent store for voodoo and witchy items. Wide variety of items.
Sarah Mari
Reasonable prices on items, especially considering it's just off Bourbon. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great place to get souvenirs or gifts as well as ritual items if you are so inclined.
They do not allow cameras inside, so be respectful. They have a security guard making sure everyone remains respectful, as well.
Brent Williams
Part of a voodoo tour. Our guide James from New Orleans Secrets was the best, a lot of history regarding various African, Haitian and Creole slaves and their practice of the Voodoo religion.
If your visiting NOLA, it's worth your time.
Mel
One of the most amazing spiritual experiences..
I'll be back soon
Cindy Rivera
The most wonderful experience here. Please respect all things in this sacred place. Much love ❤️
Bailey
Really cool shop with lots of neat stuff. It's very small but there's so much to look at, you could spend a really long time in here just going through everything and they're also fairly priced. It's kind of hard shopping here with kids, especially little ones. They also had a security guard on duty making sure that no one was taking pictures.
Sandy Duke
We were on vacation so this was our 1st time. Beautiful shop and location, sign says occupancy 22 at a time (per Covid-19 reg) honestly 22 was a little much because it is an extremely small shop. But it was elbow to elbow and more than 22 which only made it hard to shop for anything because you couldn't even turn around without bumping someone. Had nothing to do with this whole covid thing (I'm over that mess) I just would have enjoyed it more if I weren't tripping and bumping other people who I know wishes I wasn't either. But the shop itself is so fascinating & you just want to look at everything.
Chase PESO
Beautiful Voodoo store, with beautiful statues, and house blessings, along with many other spiritual artifacts
8Fifteen85 Channel
Awesome place!!!! Please respect the rules by NOT taking pictures inside this store! They had tons of authentic Voodoo items that I bought!! I definitely recommend this store if you're into Voodoo, Ifa', or Santeria!!
Jennifer O
Love the history of this place. Must visit and please make sure to leave an offering to Marie. Respect herstory and make sure you get the perfect voodoo doll for your future
Melony H
It's a must-do, regardless if your a believer or non-believer its still part of the cultural and you should submerse yourself in local when on vacation! Many interesting trinkets, knowledge, history, culture, and isn't toooo commercial yet you can still see some of the origin.
Stephen Puglisi
Please be courteous when visiting
No flash photography
No cell phones. There is a guard to enforce all rules stationed in the establishment.
Remember this is a place of religious beliefs to some and to others is just like most things in life taken for granted.
This establishment has a vibe about it that is hard to describe.
The exterior is very rustic and gives the presence of mystery cloaked in the dark arts.
Well woth the visit.
Day time visit if you're not interested in the mad house of Bourbon st. night life.
Tiffany Banks
You can't take any pictures on the inside of this place but this store pays homage to the Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. Very interesting place. They sell candles, oils, gris gris bags, etc. They also do readings at this place. Growing up in the south with a grandma that was an authentic "worker", it's basically a novelty shop to me, although a good place to maybe pick up some candles and books.
max ross
Very cool place with a bunch of stuff. A little pricey and make sure you DO NOT take any PHOTOS!! hahah you will be informed at the door lollll. Got some cool voodoo dolls tho.
Sam Sego
Very cool place to visit! Once you learn about Marie Laveau's history it makes it so much cooler when you visit this shop. They have everything you could think of. It is a little pricey, but it is so neat to come home with a treasure. Tip: NO photography or videos allowed!
Cynthia Sanchez
Probably the most unique shop I've ever visited! Could've spent hours in there. Enchanting and fascinating 😍 …
Rima Samman
This place came recommended by a friend. It's a must see if you're visiting NOLA. It's part of the entire experience. I genuinely stop in everytime I visit. They have a strict policy indoors of no photos as long as you follow the rules the staff there is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Jason Hester
No photography allowed inside is alright by me. You need to check this place out for yourself. I love the collection of items and found a few trinkets for my family and friends.
Amanda Elaine Standifer
Kids enjoyed looking around but the prices were definitely aimed at tourists. Still think this is a must-visit for the area, though!
Stanley Reams
Great place to shop and learn. Staff was fun and knowledgeable. Certainly coming back.
Phil Arriaga
Enjoyed the scenery and also bought tee shirts and a few other knic knacks. Great place and I would tell as many other people as I have done already to visit. I also visited her grave site.
Joshua Twist
If you are already here, might as well check it out. It's a neat little store.
Katy Barnes
Such a brilliant shop, both this and Rev Zombies, with a treasure trove of supplies for the budding goddess. However, both in January 2022 and in May 2022, we visited and were met with disinterested staff, who couldn’t be less helpful or more rude if they tried. Shops like this are built on foundations of tourism and hype, and people like me expect to see someone behind the counter who’s welcoming and interested in what brings you to the store. Could be so much better with staff who take an interest in customers, and who were polite and welcoming.
Will Langston
Very nice staff, nicely arranged shop, lots of interesting things. I had in mind some gifts I wanted, and they were easy to get. There are some altars in the store, so photos are discouraged. It’s pretty full of tourists, and I was worried I’d blow my cover in the quarter if I was seen coming out with something, but the bag is just plain.
booboo booboo
This place is dope dont just shop look up you will thank me the ceiling is perhaps the most impressive part of this store
Christian Dixon
Very interesting shop. Lots of voodoo stuff for lack of a better term. Very crowded.
Rosario Williams
TBH the only thing that this shop has is the Marie Laveau name. It does have cool masks, but I don't get the no picture policy or the need for 2 security guards. The place can get really packed since it's a tiny little space.
charlene harrison
Enjoyed going in this shop! Did have to wait a little bit but it wasn't to bad.
nick bachmann
Fun but cramped voodoo store and museum. Some interesting artifacts and information on the practice in the area and parts of Africa.
Pam Sirhindi
Lots of cool and creepy merchandise. The alter inside is wild and spooky. Don't go if you are in a rush. The place is usually packed with people and hard to maneuver in the store.
brent retherford
Went in looking for a few specific items and ended up finding some really cool swag!
Jaylyn Knuckles
This place felt like home. The amount of signage inside reminding shoppers to not record anything, made my heart happy. With having Haitian roots, the fact that they had an understanding of the respect needed in order to showcase the heritage and metaphysical values! Watch your step on the way out. The stairs are the same brick as the sidewalk.
Pix Starks
Amazing Shop in New Orleans.. It has anything you could want or need.. the staff are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly will definitely be visiting again.
Akira Forde
Had a reading done here. I did it because it's something to do in New Orleans. It was a good experience.
Eliza P
Definitely should visit if you interest in voodoo and New Orleans history, is basically a souvenir shop but I don’t like that take photos is not allowed because there is a very interesting decoration inside
Travis Bullion
This place is really cool. Make sure you look up at the ceiling. :-)
Mary Deleu
Great little gift shop. Pricey but your in a destination spot.
Michelle Affek
Honestly this shop has a great vibe around it. It is my 3rd visit. However today's was the best, because it was rainy and cold... the store maybe had 4 people in it..the staff was nice and honestly when I came in no one said anything about photos. However, I know they do not want photos in the shop. Which it's an owners choice for their store.
Though I will be honest when in the store when it is not busy it feels very relaxing.and pieces can call your name and so happy to add our newest friend. ❤
Pat Myers
This is a touristy little store in the French Quarter. Various types of voodoo dolls in knick knacks to purchase and ponder. I'm not sure if it's authentic voodoo but I'm pretty sure some of it is. They had candles and incense and things like that purchase. Various t-shirts and posters top purchase. It's a neat place to visit on your trip to the the Big Easy.
Mateo Gebon
I don't think I can add many details that other reviewer's haven't already, but it is a neat little shop to poke around in. Lots of cool masks were for sale, and a lot of interesting items were in every nook and cranny with descriptions. The one I was most tempted to buy were the hearts carved by women in Haiti where the money would go to help them; those were really special.
Arrie Forbess
What a fun shop!! Voodoo dolls, sage bundles, trinkets, shirts, cups and a shrine to Marie where you can leave an offering. Very nice and helpful staff too :)
Lexi Nail (SurfinLexi)
Very cool and interesting stuff in there. I've never been inside a shop like this! Definitely a place to stop and look at for sure.
Brandon Aragona
If you’re looking for the real deal stop right here!
Heart felt, wonderful, and so much more I’m unable to describe in words. The professionalism is on point. I will never forget this day/experience for the rest of my life. Thank you so much for what you do! You made a remarkable impact in my life! If 10star was available it wouldn’t be enough thank you
Leah Kershaw
LOVE THIS PLACE. Must see when in New Orleans. I collect the voodoo dolls and they are beautiful! They are giving away free totes now when you spend $100.
Selina Beltran
They don't allow any photos to be taken inside. Has a mix of interesting decor.
Mr. Mayhem
An interesting shop with some nice looking shirts but I was expecting a better selection of stuff but I would come back. Make sure you check out the ceiling ;)
Joshua Harrison
It was cool no photos inside. There are offering tables for the famous Voodoo Queen where you can offer things as long as you don't disturb anything on the alters. I promptly put a voucher for cash for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. It was a fun Snoop for those wanting a little something special on the way.
Paula Watson
I am not big on witchcraft and I definitely felt the need to apply the blood of Jesus to myself upon entering. But overall it was a cool experience
sean ryan
My god... amazing inside..gotta check it out.. don't forget to look up!!!
Christi Lamirande
Very interesting . place. Be sure to put it on your next NOLA trip
Milk DudTV
I can first say that I totally agree with User: RH M with the red haired chick. I didn’t say too much but she does give off rude vibes which made me check out with the other gentleman instead. Overall the store is very unique and interesting. I found a lot of items that I’ve been searching for in a while that had my head spinning in there. I most definitely give this 5 stars but the young lady just made it 4. She could probably use some of the items to hopefully find her some peace and happiness in life. I will definitely be back next month
Jessica Kuehle
The excitement of being in the building and seeing the shrines and historical aspects of the store were the best parts of the experience. The cashier was EXTREMELY rude for no reason. I would love to see someone working there who was excited to educate the customers about Marie Laveau and her legacy.
Melissa R
Cool gift shop. Plenty to see. No cell phones allowed to photograph but that adds to the intrigue and authenticity of the shop.
Alloy Auto Vintage
Very cool store with a wide variety of charms.
Nice people, great customer service.
Krystal Dombrowski
No pictures allowed inside. Such a cool vibe in this place. They also have someone who does readings in the back!
Ej Jackson
This is the store located on Bourbon Street, however, if you make a left outside the door, walk about 2 blocks on the left will be a plaque on a house that is erected in the very lot that Marie Laveau's actual house was built. It is the only other structure that has been in the place of her original house.
Anthony Broome
We love this little shop. Well, really not that little. They have several rooms with a large amount of variety in the items located every little spot you could think of. Dont forget to look up because there is stuff up there too. We always find something awesome hear to fulfill our needs and wants. Be sure to stop by and enjoy the alters beauties and the thrill of stepping into a down right awesome place. We like that you have security to control the crowds of people that go here, that way it is not as crowded. It was a pleasure doing business again and we will be back again! All without a doubt
Colleen Ashton
Stopped by while visiting New Orleans. This is a very cool place if you are into voodoo, magic, candles, tarot cards, or any of that. Or just curious. Good selection of supplies and lots of fun t-shirts for purchase. Small shrine inside to Marie Laveau (1801 - 1881), who was was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo, herbalist and midwife who was renowned in New Orleans as the "Voodoo Queen of New Orleans". Her daughter, Marie Laveau II, also practiced rootwork, conjure, Native American and African spiritualism as well as Louisiana Voodoo. Note: due to covid-19 they allow so many people into this small shop at a time, and there is no photography allowed inside. The shopkeeper behind the counter was very friendly and helpful.
Robert Latragna
If you are looking for voodoo in NOLA this is not the place. Commercial tourist place to pick up gifts and accessories. I will say you might find some unique items here so not all bad. If you are walking by anyway you might as well stop in. Located conveniently on Bourbon street you are bound to pass by.
Ian Binder
Real touristy. They are literally selling things on the sides of the altars in here. Very little respect shown. I'd post photos, but they don't allow it. "Authentic" voodoo sold next to mass manufactured t shirts.
Lonnie & Darha Lynn O’Quinn
Quaint little place. Try going on a weekday if at all possible. Really packed on weekend. Friendly, knowledgeable and patient staff which is always appreciated. Cool little charms and other what not’s. Awesome tank tops for petite ladies. Another huge plus… relocated right next to The famous Pat O’Briens. A must stop for a hurricane. Enjoy 😉
Ashley Broussard
A must see in the French Quarter! I come here every time I come to this city and it's still a gem!
Kayla Amott
No pictures is fine by me! I love the vibes and everyone was super chill. Can't wait to see this unique shop in NOLA again next time I come.
THE EHMER FILES
Had to stop by, just something to check off the list when in New Orleans. Lots of cool and weird stuff. Had a enjoyable time in the store.
Karyn K
A must-see location in the French Quarter! Step inside this tiny shop with SO much to experience.
Sherri Lewis
Nice place to get a reading and hear some history
Bodhi Blue (The Blue Bodhi)
Amazing energy. I could have stayed in here all day and just soaked it up. The selections of dolls, masks, candles and more both for the experienced practitioner and those newer to their path are fantastic.
jessica walker
Very welcoming staff! They have very intricate items specifically for each and every need you can think of or imagine. Those who are Leary, be advised it’ll question your beliefs. They have alters for different deities and they are very strict about no photos. Loved every moment in there and wished I had hours to spend. I was limited on time (hotel checkout) and I still felt I saw and absorbed a lot of information. Hopefully they’re going to finish the update to their website so you can make an online order soon. I would highly recommend this store. Again, if you’re not ready to take in something that may or may not question your beliefs, you might want to go in knowing that some items will scare you. Cant express how much I cherished this store.
Rich Veale
A very unique shop in the French Quarter. Be advised, you can't get pictures of some/most of the exhibits so don't expect to have a ton of pics from inside. The staff is great and the selection of items is vast. You may see people that absolutely refuse to go inside because of their "beliefs" - most have not done enough research on Voodoo and need to get off of the TV. Anyway, thus is a great place and I recommend it.
Monique Kemp
This place is great. They had a wide selection of goods for sale. They did have altars and shrines inside but no photos could be taken inside. This was my first time to New Orleans and first time visiting this establishment. Highly recommend. I bought several things to take home.
Rachel Caraway
Amazing place to go visit...if you're into that kind of thing.
Heather Frauenhoffer
An interesting but slightly eerie place to visit. The voodoo culture is fascinating and you’ll have to stop here at least once just to experience it.
Robert Bischel
I found the perfect voodoo doll and lava stone rock necklace here.
larhonda taylor
Sorry you can't take pictures but it's full of stuff to look at.
Kenyetta M
Very unique shop. Enjoyed my experience there, but the guy that does the reading was a complete waste of money! Basically all he did was explain what the cards meant, never said how it affects my life or relate to me. He just give a bunch of examples. Don't waste your money. But the shop, items and customer service was absolutely amazing, you DEFINITELY want to visit the shop but skip the reading
Maricela Rodriguez
It's a very small/museum no pictures or videos are allowed inside the store..😃 …
Tina Runyan
This place is very crowded. they only allow 22 people at a time, which is good. Most of the stuff was pretty generic, but depending on what you were there for, they had a lot to offer. They had a very good selection of books and t-shirts.
Dennis Frye
So great. Can't take photos or video so I can't post any but this place was cool. Tons of trinkets. So "touristy" stuff but mostly authentic items to buy and look at. Definite stop on any trip down Bourbon Street.
Psionic B
It was an extremely interesting store, of course I'd heard to definitely visit if you're into a more voodoo centric shop. It has some very niche voodoo items and great t-shirts and trinkets. Me and my better half walked from our hotel and I'll be quite honest I wasn't expecting the insanity of Bourbon street, which was my mistake I forgot it was Saturday and things were kicking off pretty heavily around 4pm so we had to wade through TONS of people to reach the store. Once we made it we did have to wait in line for a bit but I was happy to see a security woman watching the front door letting people in we were also told we could NOT take photos inside which to be honest felt strange seeing as there are some pretty interesting things in the store that are just begging to have a great photo taken of it. Our check out guy which unfortunately I forget his name was amazingly relaxed compared to the environment surrounding him and very helpful and nice, the items are priced high which is fair seeing as it's definitely a tourist hot spot so expect to spend some cash if you want some neat items or t shirts. I would highly recommend this for some neat souvenirs for New Orleans.
A C
Very pleased with this store. They had a wide variety of things. I don’t practice Voodoo so I didn’t buy anything. But I loved looking at things. Also, no photos taken as a respect to the voodoo queen. They only allowed 22 people max which actually made the shopping / viewing experience more pleasant. Must stop and see if in the area.
Joy Mayall
It's an amazing shop. I was so fascinated by everything, I'm a definite believer in voodoo and understand why they don't allow cameras or pictures. It conflicts with the energy in the room. Be respectful. The shrines to Marie were incredible. I came home with books and charms and candles.
I was born in New Orleans and my dad was Cajun -Creole and he had all these stories about Voodoo from long- long ago that would give you goose bumps.
I wish I could have stayed longer. The people that worked there were awesome.
Andrea F
No photos allowed inside. Employees are a bit standoffish, but this is on Bourbon Street, and I am sure they make plenty of money. Kind of overpriced, dark and creepy inside.
AJ Zag
Total tourist trap you have to visit anyway. The staff is cool and they do have interesting items. Also, if you catch the right times, the readings can be excellent and done by very professional readers.
Mara Ellis
Lots of neat stuff! No pictures cameras or facetime!
Buckeye Rides
I have to say I was a little disappointed with it. Expensive trinkets, barely any room to move around. I honestly expected to see items there which I wouldn't see anywhere else, but sadly it wasn't the case. Interesting to visit. The place itself was more interesting than the items for sale within.
Llorito Castanares Todd
I loved this shop. A lot of cool items to check out and a definite must see if your in the quarter.
The Rev
There is a lot to see in this shop. They have all sorts of items each containing a unique energy. I bought a chicken foot for protection after a car accident. I know that sounds a little silly but I have not been in an accident since, and that was 14 years ago. Do not touch anything in the shop unless you understand its power.
RODNEY WILSON
Great African art work and different types of collectible items. A true essence of traditional old world New Orleans. 🌎 …
taylor owens
Very cool store! The vibe in that place is just something you don't feel all the time. The staff was nice and everything in that store was just so interesting! Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good find for your practice!
Damaris Montúfar
Was very cool!
No cameras allowed!
Kelsey Dickens
This is a very interesting store, worth the trip! However, they let too many people in at once for the size of the shop, so we could hardly walk around and look at everything without running into other people. I got a reading too, which was astrology/tarot card based, I enjoyed it!
Katsumi Tittle
I thought this place was pretty cool! My sisters and I went in earlier today before leaving New Orleans, and i got a quartz crystal. I didn't really see what my sisters got, but they seemed happy with their purchases. I can't say whether or not the quartz is real, but I'd like to believe it is until i get to test it. The shop was set up nicely and we didn't have to do a bunch of complex stuff to pay or whatever. There were plenty of labels and notes explaining what things were used for, and everything was reasonably priced, so I think it's a pretty cool shop! Definitely check it out if you're religious, into witchcraft, crystals, etc. They have tons of cool things in there!
Zambini Escapes
Nice shop, lots of VOODOO dolls, and spell ingredients.
ISellForSubs
I would say something bad about this place, but i don’t want to be cursed.
Bob 812
Unique shop that is worth a stop whether you agree or disagree on "voodoo". Yes it is small, yes they prohibit pictures (which is probably best, as it leaves some mystic for those that have not visited), and yes the staff may not be the friendliest... but this isn't Disney either... it's a small voodoo themed shop. Worthy of a visit whether you plan on buying something or not.
Gabriela Todorova
Really cool store! They have a wide variety of herbs, books, voodoo dolls, candles, as well as memorabilia. I enjoyed browsing this shop and will recommend as a must-see in New Orleans! The staff are quite knowledgeable of all the artifacts being sold here and will guide you in selecting the perfect item for yourself or a loved one. They have a cool way of displaying items inside the shop as well! Check them out.
Rian Hill
Nice place, good to see they were keeping with COVID precautions. If you want a souvenir of the place, sure, but if you're looking to buy witchy stuff, there are a ton of cheaper places.
layuna Hayes-Cooper
I must admit I prayed over myself before visiting because I am not familiar with the meaning of all of the culture. It was an interesting store and I would go back for the candles and other protection items. It was a fun experience. I only gave four due to my own biases of the figurines with horns. Not my thing.
Tara Lacey
Crowded, but well worth a stop. I picked up some fabulous Rose of Jericho and Encanto rose water while here. The selection is good if you can allow yourself time yo browse. No photos allowed inside.
Suzanna Maulfair
If you go to New Orleans and visit the French Quarter…ya gotta go here! There are so many cool things to purchase! Everything from incense, spell kits, shot glasses and tshirts. It sits right in the heart of Bourbon Street. You cannot take photos inside, so don’t even try!
Jeff Dunaway
You can feel the spirits alive in this place. Don't forget to bring a token gift to please them!
Josie Walk (Josie)
Left my phone on the counter and when I went back the cashier remembered me and gave me my phone. I knew my phone was gone. Thanks to the gentleman at the register. Don't remember his name.
Belle de la Renta
The House of Voodoo definitely lives up to its name, there are so many voodoo-related things to see at every turn of a corner. One thing to note, however, is that the memorabilia is a bit highly priced, some small trinkets reaching the ~$30 range, so make sure to bring a good amount of cash if you plan on buying anything.
Sascha Mercury
The atmosphere in this shop is truly healing & wonderful. This was my first time ever coming here & I will be back next time I visit. The items here are very nice & the staff are so kind. I got the best tarot reading I’ve ever had in my life. I’m a pagan & have had many, but the one I got today was amazing. She truly knew what she was talking about & took the time to be very personable & talk me through everything. If you decide to get a tarot reading, come here! You will not regret it. One of the best experiences in my life & a very positive shop. I highly recommend coming here.
Jerred Downs
Good amount of merchandise at a decent price for a tourist attraction.
Walter Grant
I was so impressed with this place. They have some of the coolest things in here. The alters they have set up are on par with what you would hope to see. This store does have a huge selection of voodoo dolls and tarot cards and candles. This is your go-to shop for voodoo anything.
James Rennie
Neat little shop. Worth a visit
Vannie Kay
My friend and I went here and absolutely loved it!
Kim Kim
Historic place. But readings with the elderly lady was phony. Couldn't tell me one fact. I asked a question. And never get a reply. She kept asking me back what I wanted. Or what I think. I pay u to tell me...,.
Kat
No photos! Its beautiful, just enjoy the inside
Diane Boone
A month ago I found out about this magical shop and made an intention to one day visit it. One week later I was gifted a trip to New Orleans for Mother's day!! You can feel the spirit of Marie Laveau throughout the store. I wrote a prayer and left it on her altar. I traveled 2000 miles to get there and look forward to the next opportunity to do it again. Also the prices are very reasonable.
Kate Carnes
Very unique shop. I would recommend stopping by if your in New Orleans.
Angela Dang
Streets full of bars, souvenirs, nice architectures, & people.
John “JP” Peden
I love this place. This is the new location that they moved into not that long ago. I’d like the older place better because it gave it more of a New Orleans feel but the new place is a wonderful place lots of choices
stephanie lk
I enjoyed my visit to this shop. There were many quality items for sale and I had a hard time making my choices. I will have to come back again!
Shelly Kingsbury
Very cool.. ask them to show you the trio
Samantha Hostetler
Really interesting shop and definitely worth a visit if voodoo and it's history is part of your reason for visiting New Orleans! The staff are very friendly and the shop itself has a ton of character and a good mix of practitioner's items and souvenirs. Just remember, don't take pictures in the shop and make sure to leave a couple coins at the altar!
Catherine W
neat store, nothing special if you want the cool voodoo to take home
A &C Show
Such strong energy! Definitely a experience to remember 💖 …
Joshua Pyfrom
Super cool place to check out. Very "touristy" but a spectacle to see.
Stephanie
Love the atmosphere! Great selection and friendly people!
Amanda Holt
Not the same since the location move. Still neat items, just less of them and less room in the store.
Noah Toth
A little loud and flashy for a voodoo store. But it is in the middle of bourbon street so it’s probably the quietest place there, selection was ok.
Shelly Goulas
Love, love, love this place! So many different and unique items that you can find here. The employees are usually friendly and helpful. You can get a reading here if that is your thing or shop for jewelry, candles, wooden masks for home decor, voodoo dolls and SO much more. If you've never been here try stopping in at least once just don't take any pictures inside. They don't like that. 😊
Brad Gowins
Loved visiting this shop while on vacation. I am not an expert on Voodoo but I enjoyed looking around and was fascinated by all that it had to offer. This is a must see when in NOLA!
Chris Yandell
Not sure what to stay here. Not a believer but also not willing to risk it. Definitely some interesting characters in & around this place. But it is New Orleans & it is Boubon street, so it is as it should be. I made a monetary offering, see not willing to risk it, but it was only change so do not think you need to cough up a mint. Got some cool items for son & daughter, but I am checking for shadows around each corner, so not sure how this will play out long term. Hey if you're going to be in New Orleans then you need to see something voodoo related and this is the best as far as I can tell. Meaning it seemed creepy & authentic.
Maggie Watson
This is a great place to go for historical reasons and religious reasons. You can learn a whole lot by visiting this store. They offer psychic/tarot readings. This is one of the few stores that are legit in what they do and what they inform you of.
gene henry ward
Unique, bizarre truly one-of-a-kind voodoo items and things related. Authentic. Wanna cast a spell on your evil sister? You've come to the right place...
Tien Sydnor-Campbell
Quaint little shoppe with many interesting items for sale from jewelry & t-shirts to books and tarot decks. I picked up some spiritual/soul cleansing items, but left quite a few things I might have purchased. Having to wait to get in had me thinking I was missing something, but it's really just because the store is small. I'm glad I went, don't get me wrong, but it's not am 'absolutely must-visit!' when in NOLA (imho).
Shawn Setzer
Fun place with really nice atmosphere. Wife got stuff that makes me want to be nice to her...lol
Tiffany Castilleja
Lots of fun but very touristy. Alot of the items are overpriced but the shop is always filled with tourists so it's a popular destination. The staff was really nice and they have alot of cool things in here.
Stephanie Smith
Cool store with a large variety of voodoo and Wiccan items
Jason McIntosh
It is well worth the wait. Due to Covid only 15 people are allowed in the store at one time. It is full of unique figures, jewelry and various gifts. The wife and kids all found something of intrest. Overall it is a fun place to check out!
Candace
You're not coming all the way to New Orleans and then not stopping by Marie Laveau's. It's a fascinating shop that's a slice of the heart and soul of this town. Good deals, good juju, and good people. Respect the culture and leave a little enlightened.
Corina Mayo
Great shop to spend a good few minutes in as there is something for everyone who enjoys voodoo dolls, spiritual and healing gadgets as well as sage brushes, candles and lots more items.
Very small shop and too much items for my liking as the place is crammed from ceiling to floor with products that it's too much for my liking.
Dominiquee Naquasiaa
I really enjoyed this place. It did have some very interesting items, I wish it had more though. The lady at the front counter was nice. The security guys was nice. Reading the comments, there is a sign as soon as you walk in that states that you can not take a picture of the offering tables ( just want to clarify that) . They believe if you take a picture you’re taking the energy away from the offering that people are putting there. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want but don’t come in to their belief & feel free to do what you want. But overal! GREAT STORE!
Hilary Dwyer Key
Great shop, chalk full of interesting stuff. Take the time to look and listen.
Tara Hernandez
Everyone was friendly and helpful. No pictures allowed in the store. Dont forget to bring a offering for Marie laveau's alter.
Neil K
A pretty cool place to check out! Prices are kinda high but it was definitely a cool spot to check out! Kudos to the security here by the way for not allowing a group of drunks that were following and harassing us.
Nicole Johnson
Could spend hours in there looking at everything on the shelves! Didn't disappoint!
Jessica Pearson
I come here each trip I make to New Orleans, if you are interested in oddities, spiritual, ritual, weird interesting things this is your shop! You are instantly over stimulated once you walk into this place. There are literally SO many things in such a small area, you can get intriguingly lost for a good hour. The people who work here have always been really cool to those who are respectful of this space as it is the house of the Marie Laveau alters, which are crazy cool & fascinating and you may ask to make an offering to but I have seen staff ask people to leave if they are not honoring their strict rule of absolutely no photos or videos in the shop. With that said you can't help but to leave with handfuls one of kind souvenirs and an unforgettable memory of this place!
Miranda Browning
So cool! Loved this shop. All Covid protocols were being followed.
Nathan Harris
Neat little place to see if you are in town. No photographs inside but it is worth the time to stop by. It was very busy when we went so I didn't get a chance to ask the history of the place. It has been there ever since I can remember.
Juliet
Very cool place just to pop in to visit and explore. They sell a wide variety of spells and charms, and you can get a tarot card reading done here. I did not get one done, as the wait list was long and I think the price was a bit more expensive than I'd like to pay, when you can buy a tarot deck and learn to do tarot reading for yourself for the same price or less. But of course, here you are paying for the service of an experienced reader. I'd also recommend coming by to see their shrine to Marie Laveau.
Michelle Hyman
I gave them 5 stars because of the ambiance and quality. However the staff at the register was rude. I get being overwhelmed by the millions of tourists that walk through the shop on a daily basis. The thing is if you want your customers to spread the word, to come back, or even look at your website you need to be nice. That being said... they have a wide variety of occult items. It is quaint. Try to go early to avoid the mad rush that seems to swarm them in the afternoon.
Jared Massie
Such an awesome store right in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. They have so much to check out and it was hard to decide what to finally buy and bring home. You can also get a spiritual reading in the back if you are feeling up to it. You’ll for sure find unique gifts here that represent all that New Orleans is known for!
John White
Really neat voodoo store. The place was pretty busy but there was enough room to move through and find some cool stuff to buy. We had our Tarot cards read in the back which was fun. The shopkeepers were nice and helpful. Prices seemed a little high but I think you should expect that when you go to "the" voodoo shop. I would recommend everyone to swing inside to at least check it out, Its a neat place.
Shayna W
Neat place. Got a handmade voodoo doll -- they have about 50 or so hanging from the ceiling in the back to choose from. They also have many books related to voodoo history and haunted areas in New Orleans.
Austen Gordon
Cute little store with lots of voodoo and other cultural trinkets. Saw stuff from Ghana, Guatemala, and Tibet. The items were definitely too expensive for my taste and I didn’t take any photos because the security says not to take it. I wanted photos but idk I didn’t want no voodoo spirit to haunt me for taking any! Haha. Not a scary location, just definitely something you don’t see everyday
Parrish Legette
My restock store.. I love this place. I have visited this place twice in 2 months. If you don't know what you are doing just come in and look around. Please don't buy. It's not to be played with.
Laurel Altigar
Cool place to check out. Marie is definitely still there.
Alex Majewski
It's cool good pick for tee shirt
Alma Davis
So love this shop! They staff is friendly and the small shop is amazing! They have all forms of voodoo items that you would expect of a small shop from NOLA. They sell Books about voodoo, vampires and ghosts that roam this historic city. There's also charms and spells and protections. One of the best places I've visited and plan to revisit very soon
Jackie Cope
Very obvious tourist trap. There's not much of real value here, and it was hard to move around anyway with the amount of people there. I wouldn't go here for anything authentic. My spouse couldn't even enter because the smell was so strong and gave them a headache. We're used to metaphysical shops having smells, but they don't negatively affect my spouse like this did.
Magnificent One
All I can say is wow! I was literally in awe at how many ppl were there and the items they have. I want to go back because we really couldn't speak with the employees due to it being packed. All around impressive
Sarah Miller
This little shoppe is AMAZING!!! They have EVERYTHING you can imagine in there! The staff are friendly and open to answering questions if you have any! I bought a set of Bad spirit warding off bells and they are beautiful. I can’t wait to hang them in my new house!!! If you’re looking for a really cool experience and are interested in magical practices or getting your fortune read, Marie Laveau’s House of Voodoo is a must see!!!!
Desiree Brown
Nice assortment of wares covering lots of bases. Definitely worth a look.
420 Esthetics
Incredible atmosphere, truly magikal shop filled with love and deep protection of the roots of the true heritage of this sacred place in our world. When you come to this shop, you will be transformed and guided with strength and integrity of ones that came before you. You will feel them with you. Honor them. Respect them. Always. Lead life with love. Always. Enjoy! ✨✨🥰🥰🥰
Lois Francis
Great place a lot of history long long lines but worth it and the experience
Cynthia Beckham
It was awesome. I understand them asking g you to not take photos inside, but at the same time I was disappointed. Its smaller than you would think, bit, packed full of all sorts of things.
Completely amazing and worth the check out.
V B
Great place to shop and the reading was on point
riley fowler
This place is great, helpful nice staff, voodoo dolls that work. Only twenty four hours ago I bought em and already shook love intrest, changed my bad luck to good, and just got word my ex unexpectedly had a piano fall on her. Broke her toe but a fall is a fall. Recomend.
Melvin Dunn
Nice place. General Santeria, Vodun, and Magick books as well as some nice charms. Recommend stopping by if you're agnostic or you don't think anything that isn't Christian/Islam is evil.
Tash Exquisite Treats
It was the highlight of my trip very interesting place and educational.
Mikaela Budzick
Every time I visit NOLA this store is a must see!!
Phantom Jewel “Phantom Bell” Photography
Normally love this place but I don't think I'll be returning , someone pick pocketed my 16 yr old who was in looking for stuff , we live in Nebraska and regular NOLA, a lil awkward from a protective place. Losing his last 40$ before we leave tomorrow kinda of shook him .
Mandy Smith
Very cool spot with handmade items.
Bruce Robinson
Really cool place. From voodoo dolls to mojo bags. Tee-shirts to bumpers stickers. A must see !!!
F R
Last time I was there was in the 90s still amazing, lots more touristy as I expected and it should be, but they definitely still have some amazing authentic items.
Heather A
Very cool shop with several altars and lots of cool items and books.
Limit of 22 at a time, lines out the door usually, no one under 18 allowed without guardians
Jay Holland
Very bizarre and interesting store!! Lots of unique "voo doo" items. Good selection of cigars too! Be sure to get you a bag of gris gris....
Alicia A
It's conveniently on bourbon for anyone that interested. I thought it was a souvenir shop! I went in and immediately noticed it was a place to buy voodoo witch craft stuff. No hats or magnets here so I left. Something that I did notice was there were 2 body guards in there.. not sure for what? Absolutely no pictures are allowed! Happy shopping?
Joseph K.
We were in and out relatively quickly just to see this oddity and curiosity. I'm sure some stuff is authentic and blessed. There are two alters inside that are interesting. Of course this place also caters to tourist if you are looking for a shirt or something. Please note they ask very clearly not to take photography inside, which we respect. Thanks for having us.
Dolores Crawford
I didnt go in there because i dont believe in vodo .but there was a line eighter to get things or out of curiosity .but people were happy to wait. There is not enough room outside and they said also inside.building is small but famous as you can see by the lines tourist are willing to wait. For.
Scott Follett, Jr.
Half this shop is your standard souvenir shop with branded shot glasses and mugs, but in the back things get a little weird... in a good way. That's where the more "authentic" voodoo goods are kept. I know nothing about voodoo, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but it was different enough to pique my interest. But it's absolutely not your standard kitschy fare.
Shefali Salim
Large inventory! One staffer was sort of rude but I imagine also exhausted with all of the peopling they’re required to do. No photos allowed.
Jeremy
Visited this place a few times while vacationing in New Orleans. Love it there! The vibe is just right and the people were friendly. I recently made a purchase online around Christmas time. Shipping took a little longer than expected but it was the holiday season sooo.. but overall love this place and the items they offer. We be returning in the near future! Thank you HOV!
ActualDavyJones
Very cool shop with unique and incredibly voodoo dolls, voodoo practitioner tools, pendants, incense, spell kits, and so much more! They are very good at helping keep the occupancy limit of 22 customers at a time, which is great because the shop is smaller.
Nicole Cothran
Had an amazing reading. Staff was knowledgeable and patient with all the questions from visitors.
Emma Gorac
Love this place.. except when tourists come in and disrespect the alters by touching them or messing with offerings.. or by taking pictures and stuff. But I come downtown just for this shop. Their tshirts are very good quality too, unlike all the other cheap souvenir shops you're actually getting what you pay for. I just love the energy and environment in this shop. Definitely a place to check out if you're into that sort of thing.
Colin Kleinmann
They really treat this place like more of a museum and it has high security. No flash photography. Really cool gifts and magical wares for those who enjoy the superstitious.
Tiffany Adams
Voodoo is part of the new orleans history and this place has some awesome stuff in it. They ask you not to take pictures which is understandable. This was my daughter's (16) favorite stop.
Erin Schroeder
Fascinating shop for unique finds, and worth the visit for the history alone. Prices can be a bit high and don't bring a camera-- no photos, the ghosts are shy :) But pretty stunning things to browse and quite an important cornerstone in New Orelans historic figures and events.
Ericka Gray
It's a cool, over-priced voodoo shop. The attendants were standoffish & didn't seem very knowledgeable about the stuff they sell in the store. The guy at check-out told me & my sister two different things about the same product, within 10 minutes between us checking out. So , not thoroughly impressed.
Van Kell
Great tourist area but kind of expensive and hard to tell the authenticity of some of the natural products. Still a favorite spot but only on rare occasions.
Lauren Sammons
Absolutely amazing and beautiful if you believe in wicca and voodoo it's awesome if not it's another tourist attraction but still amazing all the buildings in the french quarter are original except for lighting and a few other changes absolutely beautiful place please be respectful of beliefs and the culture
David
Meh. While it has tons of stuff to look at and purchase, much of it seems cheesy and overpriced, catering to tourists more than anything.
Tiffaney McClendon
If you're passing by, stop in to look around. You shouldn't go out of your way to visit, however. Be aware that although it is a tourist attraction, it is NOT a souvenir shop. It is instead a voodoo shop and bookstore. So if you need or want some supplies for voodoo or Wicca rituals, they've got you covered. If you want a magnet or mug, you're in the wrong place. The store is smaller than you'll expect and more crowded than you'll imagine. There is security. They are NOT your friendly neighborhood guards. PHOTOGRAPHY AND CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED. There is a sign. If you break that rule, they will not be polite when they remind you of it. There is an alter inside. Be respectful. They have no problem kicking people out who are not. If these seem like too many rules for a simple shopping trip, you should skip this stop.
Mike Terry
I think it is owned by the same people as Zombies Voodoo shop, but seemed to have more cool stuff to see. Has a lot of the usual touristy imported junk, but also has some cool unique stuff to purchase as well. It is interesting even if you don't buy something. They don't allow pictures and actively enforce the rule, or I would have added a few pictures.
Ghosty VA
I personally loved the experience in a big fan of voodoo and the supernatural so being here I could feel a lot of energy when I first walked in I would definitely recommend
Maria - aquariusunbound
The wait isn't long and the stores is packed with items for yourself or to gift. I enjoyed walking around and looking through everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Whitney Green
Prices high cool stuff
Alexandra Dowling
Tight little shop, but full of incredible sights! No photos allowed of the inside, I wish I could've taken some because it is quite the experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful on my search for a particular herb, even giving me info on some other local spots!
Reyna Jessica
I finally went to Queen Marie Laveau’s House Of Voodoo, and the experience was fabulous. Lots of nice things to purchase as souvenirs, as well as mojo bags, oils, incense and statues, which were all very beautiful. I will definitely be back to receive a reading.
D'Sheild Trumble-Eversole
This place was so neat. They had really great prices on some gorgeous items.
A real taste of the French Quarter and it's history. I would suggest going here, and please always be respectful. Voodoo is not a tourist attraction it is a religion. And as such there are altars inside the building, please revere them appropriately.
Patrick Duffy
This place has a very unique feel to it, definitely not your typical souvenir shop. The prices are reasonable and they have some really cool stuff. I will visit it again the next time I am in New Orleans. One word of advice: take a side street that parallels Bourbon, such as Royal, and then cut over to get there. Bourbon Street is a hot mess (unless you want to navigate a crowd of drunk tourists).
Grumpymonk 25
I like this shop. Cool atmosphere, and if you need anything for voodoo rituals to dolls, they got you covered. I took off one star for the pushy and rude cashier woman at the front cashier. She acted like there was a whole line and I was slowing it down, but in reality I was the only one in line and waiting. Other than her, it's a cool shop that I recommend stopping into :)
Steven Miller
This place it's for real! My gf has a cross tattoo on her hand, after walking through looking at all the cool stuff she complained about her hand burning. We walked back outside and her tattoo was red and irritated.
Chasity Gaines
Really neat voodoo and other spiritual items. VERY crowded when we went. No pictures. Must have mask on at all times. Try to speak louder when talking with sales associates.
Tobey Alvarez
One of the places that is a must do when we come to NOLA. it has been my experience that the readings have been spot on... Time is taken and everything is explained and you can ask questions...imo it's a genuine experience... I'm not all into the spiritual stuff but ever since the first time I went I've gotten a reading... This was my 4th one and each time has been pretty accurate about my past and present, and things that were said about the future have started to come to fruition.
Cypress Dougherty
Really cool place, has a lot of historical info throughout the store. Worth a visit if you are interested in Voodoo, though please respect the no pictures rules.
Anitria Bergeron
I'm am a huge believer in this wonderful woman. I'm not sure if this is her real house.. it's more of a gift shop.. I'm not sure how respectful it would be if it was her real house. I didn't buy anything from here but I did go in to pay my respects. I also stopped by the cemetery to pay my respects. Also not sure she is really buried there either. But still a neat store to see
Jose Cabanas
Really unique store. A must stop for all New Orleans visitors
JILL RIETA
Should really be named a "hoodoo" shop rather than a voodoo shop. Purchased red coral that when I open at home determined was not real, but oh well. It is still a fun shop. Not sure how long it's been there but looks the same this year as it did when I visited nearly 15 years ago. Take it for what it's worth and enjoy the ambiance. Worth a visit.
Dana Sakonjic
My first time visiting NOLA and this store was the highlight of my time in town. Interesting items for sale. I purchased two pendant necklaces and the sales person accidentally gave me two of the same ones. I went back the following day to exchange it, and they very extremely helpful even though I did not have a receipt.
Andrea A
My cousin bought the most beautiful voodoo dolls from this place and we got a chance to look a lot at most of the voodoo stores in the area. They don’t let you take pics so soak it all in.
Tammy Harper
What doesn't this place have?! My second favorite place in the French quarter.
Glenn Bustos
Staff very helpful. Very eclectic and eerie vibe. Photos not permitted. If your are sensitive to the occult please keep away from the 2 main altars. Very strong aura/vibes
Alicia Zimmerman
Visual overload lol. So many things in there, I don't think we saw it all. Worth the wait in line, anything you can imagine. Don't miss this if you're in the French Quarter! (They have positive energy/protector dolls, and that's what we found interesting)
Mike Brown
I did not know what to expect, one of the coolest collections of African Art I have come across. The Masks from all over Africa tell such a story. The white guy behind the counter was a bit of a douchebag and made me instantly want to leave. But the other employee was very welcoming. I love my mask necklaces from Ghana I picked up here.
William Martin
Completely awesome. There is stuff in there you wont find anywhere else but New Orleans. Prices are expected for a touristy type of thing. Absolutely NO photos and trust me they will remind you. The bigger statues are realy neat and really high priced. If they are authentic then maybe the price is justified.
lindsey
It was cool. They sell "voodoo dolls," masks, glass peddles with bugs in them, voodoo related posters, skeleton figurines and other knick knack type things. I found it to be a bit over budget, so I didn't buy anything. Not to mention, the items are more novelty than anything to me. But, by all means, go in there and look around. It's a small shop so it won't take long and if you don't purchase anything, at least you saw some really cool stuff.
Amber Lemay
So much to see here, absolutely worth stopping in if you're in the quarter. I'd post pictures but you're not allowed to take them. Beautiful altars.
Terri Meadows
I worked here in 2005 until my car broke down. Awesome place, awesome people, naughty ghosts moving stuff around but more funny than scary. Lots of tourists bought voodoo dolls lol.
Kelley Price
Cool shop with neat items. It's a bit crowded but they keep it pretty smooth and don't pack too many people in. Take your mask!
Jan Freeberg
Unique store with lots to look at. Great place to get a souvenir.
Susanna Brooke
Really enjoyed visiting the shop and it was easy to find, even though it was my first time to Bourbon Street /New Orleans. It was pretty crowded which made it somewhat difficult to navigate the 3 small rooms and really look at all the merchandise. I did find some really cool items at a price I could afford. There is a wide range of items from tiny charms & amulets to large masks, statues and great t-shirts (the shirts were slightly overpriced but maybe just for me because I suffer from poverty and extreme broke-ness). All in all, we were glad we took the time to seek out Marie Laveau's shop and hope to go back if I ever get to visit N.O. again.
Ayr drie
Most legit voodoo shop. I believe most things are made locally. Can have a tarot card reading done in the back. Pretty much everything you could want is in this shop.
John Sheffield
I've always loved this little shop. It's a lot of fun and has great souvenirs. You should check it out. The assortment of novelty and serious occult items is entertaining. No pictures allowed inside!
Michelle Velasquez
I guess we were expecting a little more to explore in the shop, but it was basically a gift shop. There were a few little pictures/paintings/drawings with some info, but the rest were just trinkets and tourist type things.
Wendy Brown
Great stop for all of your voodoo necessities and gifts. It is definitely out of the ordinary for out of towners. It's a must stop by shop.
J Allen
Get there early there will be a wait, but so worth it. There is a feeling that is difficult to describe. Excitement, nervous and maybe a bit of fear; the way you are afraid of a rollercoaster. Don't miss it!!
NeKwan Perkins
As always...amazing. I needed some supplies. They are the sweetest people. Amd I'm from New Orleans and its one of my favorite places
Elise Nix
We stop and leave an offering and pay our respects every time we come. The shrine has been placed behind plexiglass. We can still leave our token, though. Great souvenirs.
Elisha Morris (Elisha_Snaps)
Nice staff and a good selection of items. You are not allowed to take pictures inside and if you are leaving a offering please do so gently. The alters are precious and delicate.
Yvette Imhoof
Great place for witchy items and crystals
Leigh G
Be respectful, no pictures allowed
Everyone was kind and willing to answer any questions we had! Definitely worth a looksee when visiting
Shay Seefong
Great place to visit for the first time for those that have never been to New Orleans but also great for return visitors alike. There is something unique and unusual for just about every one. The staff are pretty helpful for the most part. Just remember, No Photos!!
Kris Holly
Lots of great stuff to look at. Had a bit of a commercialized feel to it I couldn't shake. Nice shop overall though.
Adam Van Grover
An official outlet of something distinctly French Quarter. The House of Voodoo sells odds and ends, stacked to the brim, in a semi-decrepit, derelict locale that caters more to tourists, but also sells some real magic to devotees. It is a fantastic experience, but a little knowledge beforehand will help you a lot. I like the look and feel, but it may off-put some. There are numerous alters throughout, so look - do not touch, and ask for it - again, do not touch. This should be treated the same way as a church or other religious institution, despite its size, location, and commercial appeal. Pictures are generally frowned upon. However, despite these warnings the staff is intensely knowledgeable (though according to some other posts, maybe a bit intimidating), and will be more than willing to walk and talk you through your specific needs, given you treat them with respect and the courtesy you expect. This was a highlight of my trip, I felt it resembled the complex intermixing of cultures, values, and history that the French Quarter contains. Definitely worth a visit, and in my mind, one of the best, most authentic places to buy, as well.
Devin Briggs
Probably one of the most authentic voodoo shops I've seen yet. Very cool merchandise and definitely things you wouldn't see at any old shop. And the staff was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend!
Dean P
Had to stop here while exploring the French Quarter. Divine atmosphere with everything you could (and couldnt) imagine. Very polite staff.
David S
I'm not really into voodoo but this place is cool to check out. It has an interesting vibe about it and some pretty cool stuff. If you are taking a trip to new orleans tak a walk down burbon street and check this place out.
Tommy Carson
This is the most legitimate occult shop I've ever been to and I'm from Southern California. I was in town for work and when I visited this place I expected some mass manufactured voodoo dolls and a few books on voodoo. What I experienced was occult items I've never seen for sale, altars of the one Marie Laveau and an incredible altar for Baphomet. There is also a letter with a returned stolen item wherein the writer details how he stole this item and experienced non stop bad luck ever since until he was finally provoked to return it, leading one to assume, the charms they sell within the place indeed have power. I was also pleasantly surprised to hear some old school KMFDM while I was in the shop. I enjoyed talking to two employees about Baphomet and the music they played however there was one man in the back who seemed full of attitude and kind of impatient, even telling me rudely "they have price tags" when asked about items with very obscure and hard to see price tags. I won't downgrade the shop for one employees attitude, especially since I enjoyed speaking to the others, I loved the shop as a whole and would encourage anyone interested in the occult to visit. Hail Baphomet and Hail Marie Laveau!

She (Marie) is a fascinating women to research; this is a stop for anyone’s bucket list to better understand the practice of Voodoo. It is possible to order actual supplies as needed through her website. It’s very powerful to call the store and consult with the experts on what you may require. Sometimes a simple gris gris bag with a certain ingredient is all that is suggested to persevere thru an attack of dark energy. Perhaps it’s something more. Books are a very interesting sources of ideas; but practitioners tend to offer a solid, fast and measurable solution to many obstacles leaving the information seeker quite satisfied. If you are going to experiment with ordering a Voodoo Doll: it is critical to research the process of “Charging” the doll in the sun prior to its first use. You will want to use this same process with most of your stones and crystals. Also, be careful and utmost respectful of others and the practice. Karma is a very serious reality.
Joshua Pipkin
Great, but a little bit too scary for the kids and babies, so if you go here don’t bring children that are 0-5 because those are the ages that might be scared.
jim patane
Very cool shop if your are into voodoo or just curious about it this is the place to go. This place is filled with dolls, jewelry, talisman and anything you could ask for in the way of Voodoo. You can even. Get your reading done on site. If your on Bourbon Street stop by.
Amy Wiel
It was cool but most of the things being sold were cheap, random items. I got some cool earrings but I could’ve gotten them many places. There were some neat things to see, but I was hoping for more originality, I guess.
Jillian McNeilly
The shop itself is great, there are tons of interesting items to buy.
My complaint is with my recent palm/tarot card reading. My displeasure is not that I got a bad 'fortune' or anything like that, but rather than the reader started off the session by giving me his card for his self proclaimed failing art career, and proceeded to tell me multiple personal stories (that had zero relevance) throughout my reading. It felt like I was his therapist because he was going through a tough time. My other complaint that I spent the majority of the time feeling like I was just being taught ways to read palms and tarot cards, rather than have anything be read about me.
I came here three years ago and got the best reading I have ever had. I was very much looking forward to getting another reading here because of this, but it was nothing even close to my original experience.
Dillon Pieffer
Such a cool place and so rich with history and just all around cool place. My daughter is now excited to read about the history of voodoo. A must see while down in New Orleans
Corwyn
Great little voodoo stop, but the pictures are outdated, they've since moved locations. They are near the bayou club now, not honky tonk.
Kody Haynes
Had a very wired experience In The back room definitely felt a weird vibe people that worked there did amazing with me let my know a lot of information around in store I feel the swing door in the back and a huge gust of win flung a door wide open in the back where i was standing happen right after I said a ouija board was not wanted in my house got a very illness to me and left room. Came back did it again the feeling very mind blowing people in store believe I had a bad Spirit in my present very crazy they did awesome on helping me to keep that stuff away
Bill McGrane
Cool place to stop and walk through it'll probably be packed but there's enough room to look around. It's very expensive especially if you want something like a shrunken head but there's cool affordable stuff amongst some cool t-shirts and other things.
Brandon C
It's alright. Fun flirty door girl. Nothing over the top unique for my tastes. Its a lot of options in a small space. Get a reading, I didn't. Maybe you'll get more out of it.
Angela Blocher
Very cool and eclectic shop. Filled with so many interesting artifacts and spiritually related items. No pictures or videos allowed.
Amber Holt
Awesome little shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans showcasing the cultural voodoo and 'alternative' mystical arts. Very cool stuff. NO PICTURES. No matter how busy they are, they are watching you, so behave. Lots of items for sale ranging from the supposed authentic, select buyer options to the little trinkets everyone can get into like lucky jewelry, etc. I'd call it a must-experience spot.
Taylor Edwards
Such kind people! Great experience & learned alot!
Cody P
All around just weird, though we expected that. The staff was friendly though. Also no pictures are allowed inside and don't try anyway because we saw a couple get thrown out for it, they watch you with eagle eyes.
Mae Buffalo Head (Mae)
Awesome store but the experience was completely ruined by the rude security guard. She yelled and berated people. Won’t return if she’s there.
CHAOS USA FAMILY
Super creepy...I guess no visit to New Orleans would be complete without a visit for some voodoo!
Author Lea Mishell
After reading Madame Laveau's story during lunch at a local restaurant, I was curious to learn more about her. Nice store! I'll be sure to visit the next time I'm in New Orleans
Sai Rama9
You can find different articles, Gifts, Toys, Art materials. I have purchased Magnetic fridge sticker and other small toy as a symbol of remembrance of my NEW ORLEANS TRIP on 26 DEC 2018. The rates are bit expensive as it is tourist place. Store people are good and nice
Shannon Walden
It was really neat to stop in and see the shop and offerings made to this New Orleans legend. The shop is filled with anything voodoo you might be looking for along with some novelty items as well. There are two alters to share offerings and wishes as you’d like. Please be kind and respectful as to not touch any of her offerings on the alters, as the sign also states however someone did get handsy and touched all the coins 🤦🏻♀️
TheMts AreCalling
This is hands down a major tourist trap. It's full of gimmicky "voodoo" items that were in my opinion very over priced. The place was very small and cramped but it was interesting to look around at as it had a few little curiosities and some "voodoo" altars. It's an interesting stop but definitely not a repeat experience. I never spoke to any of the staff.
Melanie aka Lanieiniowa
3 stars because I really wanted to go there and planned my visit. It was so crowded but we expected that, small little place. Step up into the shop so maybe not exactly handicapped accessible. Inside was crowded and small, not much room to look around. No cameras or cellphones allowed inside, one of our group missed those signs in the crowd and was immediately approached to put her cell phone away. Staff, not so friendly, not welcoming, not much help unless u r the young pretty girl who popped up for a question. Forget a older mom type lady looking for a t-shirt, over there, points behind him. Her help was, grabbed her some in her size, let her look through them to see they were her fit, then rang her up before everyone else standing there. Everyone else barely eye contact, sad.
Sharne James
I am OBSESSED with how awesome the staff was. Answered all of my questions and led me around to find my hearts desire. They were very knowledgeable about concepts and the flow of certain pieces to the next. Came from Houston and would definitely travel there again!
Liam Hajnos
Hurricane is awesome. Odd vibe...in a good way. Its the oldest building used as a bar in the USA. Would and will visit again.
Avantè Emillin
This store is New Orleans heritage! Loved all of the decor. The gentlemen there are a bit rude but overall a great experience. We will be back
Nathan McDaneld
A lot of different trinkets to look at. A very touristy atmosphere, but still gives you a spooky feeling. I really wanted to take a ton of pictures, but there is no photography allowed. Demons are camera shy.
Cassandra Banka
Didn't pick up on any spiritual feelz but it was real crowded and a lot to take in but with that being said a must go in nola staff was friendly and cool memorabilia
windell oconnor
My wife, daughter and I visited the French Quarter not expecting to have fun because of the recent Covid pandemic. However, we enjoyed ourselves. Marie Laveau's House was a great a experience. The security officer made customers aware of the covid rules, shopping and browsing was wonderful. We purchsed :Tshirts, rings and charms. Great Hospitality and prices. My daughter made small offering to Marie Laveau.
Frankie Hernandez
Very interesting items in there. I love the mystique. The woman that told me not to take any pictures was very rude though. I saw the sign where you were not allowed to take pictures of the idols and the alters… I didn’t know you couldn’t take pictures of ANYTHING. I must have have not been paying attention. Instead of politely telling me that I couldn’t do that she proceeded to holler across the room from the cash register and demand that I erased the picture from my phone. “NO PICTURES! ERASE IT! NOW!”...It actually drew quite a bit of attention on me from the other patrons trying to shop. I was very embarrassed.
Joanne Wilson
Loved it! Got a reading from Philip and he was a great medium and a good conversation partner to boot.
Eva Lacedonia Moniz
Such a cool historic place with all kinds of items to purchase.
Machelle Poindexter
Very cool to see and experience
Katherine
I was surprised at the number of 5 stars... it honestly didn't feel like anything other than a bit of a hippy shop. I didn't see anything that screamed "authenticity" to me and all of the people that worked there- none seemed like they actually practiced.
Amy K. Holmes
Great shop for fun Voodoo- themed gifts. The alter to Marie Laveau is simply stunning. There's a great selection of spiritual books & candles.
Jill C
Totally amazing shop! Had to buy a t-shirt! They are very respectful of voodoo and Marie Laveau! They do not let you take pictures and have security making sure you're being respectful of their beliefs.
Liz Smith
No photography permitted. Great spot to browse, get readings, or purchase items. Incredibly helpful staff. Always a pleasure to visit.
Darlene Dilbeck
First time to NOLA and we had to pay homage to Marie Laveau! Great shop, I could've spent hours there. Felt right at home, even told my kids 'these are my people '! Planning another trip soon! 💜💜💜 …
Catherine Francis
Had to go look inside. Bought a tarot card deck and a couple of rings, that I kept loosing. So I guess I wasn't supposed to have them. And some shells that supposed to bring wealth. I held on to them. So nothing crazy. I listened to the stories and learned about the woman and her religion. Now I'm a little more wiser than I was before.
Jena Sambrano
This was a fun stop to make. I love history, even if it is only as accurate as those who write it. My curiosity is always looking for the next piece in the puzzle. I was reminded of my own spirituality, while adoring the tokens of others.
Rebecca Silva
I was looking for a gift and the girl show me just the right book!
Bollens
Was hoping for more? No experience at all, just walk into a store and not a single employee says anything to you. Just another tourist stop.
Jazzie Holt
This place is purely special. You can find almost anything magic you're looking for, great place for stone bracelets of all kinds, hematite rings, tarot cards, t-shirts, necklaces, earrings and of course the altar to Marie Laveau herself. Always a good idea to leave a little offering with whatever prayer or blessing you seek. PS: the coffee came from Envie coffee shop on Decatur. Also a highly recommended stop.
Oso. Whitt
Very comforting atmosphere and really enjoyed the items that were for sell. Wiccans and Witches can also find neat things for their craft. ❤️
Joshua Henderson
It had a great selection and the shop was decorated really well with altars. But the service was poor and the cashier was rude. I paid with cash and card and she made a big deal about it and slammed her pen and sighed really loud.
Adam Stefanski
Really.packed ..I suggest taking a tour to learn about the cool facts history and.more.. inside is definatelly.a.must see but try and wait for a small line there is so much more to see and experience.
Heather
This place is pretty cool. Lots of unique items.
Ina Grove
Super cool and educational about the real history of voodoo.
Lisa Mullen
Madame Cinnamon is quite pleasant and knowledgeable enjoyed her sense of humor it is a small venue but definitely worth it. This was our first stop at a location in New Orleans and I’ll definitely go back just for her company.. beautiful lady.
Mr. Burns
I don't wanna make Marie angry at me so just trust me when I say 5 stars.
Dustin
Cute, small. It's a tourist trap. Not sure if anyone legitimately into voodoo shops there, but it's worth a 15 minute stop. Neat stuff on display. wish I could take pictures inside.
ZombieQueen
Maybe it’s from being a witch and having gone to a ton of shops, but I felt this one was kinda a tourist trap. Overpriced on many things it seemed but they were very nice.
Lee Anne Wooten
This store was awesome!! My daughter bough a Tarot set and is excited to learn to read cards. Lots of neat items for sale and several alters inside to wish upon.
Delynn Plott
Has a nice selection, but the store is so small you couldn't see everything they had to offer. Neat merchandise though.
Shelby Francis
It's fine for tourist knickknacks, although they sell the exact same things t both this location and Rev. Zombies voodoo shop. Not sure if they are affiliates. Basically pick one or the other, but don't go to both
Babette Jinkins
Small and exactly what we were expecting! Take the time to actually look around, don't just rush in and out. Staff was knowledgeable on their products and willing to answer any questions. It is essentially a shrine to Marie, so be respectful while there.
maria ousley
Small of course. So it was crowded with the 22 people minimum due to covid. Staff was not friendly. Security lady was very nice. Tourists prices on a lot of things
Mary Jane Rogers
Katrin was aging at the piano bar!! Beautiful voice, and very fun to watch and sing along with. Great drinks too!
Sarah Galvez
Cool shop. There are lots of little interesting things to look at. The voodoo dolls here are different than most I saw out and about. However, you won't miss anything if you don't make it here.
Liz Thomas
The place was too small not too exciting too many people at one time . social distancing is not going on there maybe 35-40 trying to walk in the size of 2 small bedrooms you have to have a flash light to see some of the pictures on the wall, lots of pictures.
Cocoa Rivers
Made an offering to her energy spirit with a prayer paying homage to our Ancestors.
Erica King
Okay dont get me wrong, I love Marie Laveau's story and respect her livelihood BUT this store just didn't seem to have her spirit. It's a store that's overpriced, specifically for tourists. I was hoping for a more authentic voodoo shop rather than a tourist money trap.
June Arnold
Very interesting place. We bought a few voodoo dolls and some jewelry. I think they may do readings there too. Great place to stop as a tourist.
Juliette Kesterson
Must see voodoo shop in NOLA. Tons of History and a really neat chop to stop at while in town. No pictures allowed inside. Don't mess with the altars but you can leave something there.
Colby Oshea
Love this place! I'll have to get my cards read next time I go back...
One bad thing to say though... the large T-shirt i bought fit like a small...
Lauren Discoli
Staff was friendly. Lots of stuff to look at, and learn about. Kinda costly but understandable considering they gotta make money and are a specialty shop. I picked up a few oils and some beads.
John Scott
Great place for tourists to stop and get gifts for people back home . Friendly staff . Seems to have fare pricing .
Sherika Dortch
Had a lot of cool things I actually found myself purchasing a few things, I will visit again on my next trip! The service was great also.
Will Fusaro
Cool little shop, but there's usually too many people in there to actually spend time looking at all the little knick knacks they have in there. Definitely worth a visit if you're strolling down bourbon street!
sunny chauncey
The store was cool... I wanted to look around more. But the place was packed and the staff seemed extremely stressed... one girl was running back and forth from the front to the back and there was a bit of yelling between 2 employees and indication of annoyance at customers being in the store so we felt like we should leave, which we did.
Ashley Clous
Out of all of the voodoo shops I browsed during my visit, this one was the best. They have so many cool things to buy and look at as well as private tarot readings. There is a no camera rule which is understandable and should be complied with out of respect. I see a lot of reviews that are bad because the bouncer yelled at them for taking a picture and 'the no picture sign is so small' which is wrong. There is a 'no pictures' sign on the door, and ones by the altars as well. So there really is no excuse. I suggest if you have your phone in your hand to just put it away while you're in there. If they need a bouncer to stand there to watch people and make sure they follow the rules then there's obviously been a problem with people not wanting to follow basic instructions, and people with a lack of respect. Stop being salty because you wanted an Instagram picture with the altars. Make an altar of your own and take pics for the gram if you're so enticed to do so.
Jennifer Laurich
Half and half. About this. Some cool stuff but it seems mostly junk made in china. I understand it's a spiritual concept but you are running a retail business in a tourist area. Some friendly customer service and smiles could really help the place.
kelly nering
Very interesting items in this store . No pictures allowed of their cool altars and statues.
Bridgett Bohanon
You can't take pictures. Small, quaint novelty shop if you are in to voodoo. I did get a cute cross necklace.
Jennifer Rousseau
So much fun going through the shop...we went back a 2nd time & bought some treasures!
Dave Dorsett
Cool little place. Very reasonable prices. Definitely a must stop in New Orleans.
Lari Hallowes-Welman
A lovely little shop selling all sort of trinkets, and charms. Most of it is touristy, but I'm sure there are some 'legitimate' items.
The only annoyance with this place were the drunk tourists with no respect.
jennie Dixon
It was a lot of fun. Really good quality products as far as I call tell. The tshirt I bought was super soft.
Katy Marshall
First time in any kind of shop like this so I was t sure what to expect. Not exactly my cup of tea but I respect what they are doing.
L Baron
Super awesome experience and the staff was very kind! Lots of great trinkets and gifts to pick up, and if you have time, make sure to get a reading! 😎 …
Danielle Nunya
This is the best shop on Bourbon! I look forward to going every time I take my Nola trips. I cherish all my valuables that I purchase here
J. Tal
It's small so it's very crowded. It's for tourists so it's over priced. I still recommend you stop by and check it out. You can't take pictures inside so that sucks but it's still fun.
destiny banuelos
If you are into the supernatural and anything strange and unusual, you should definitely stop in here and check out the merchandise. Great setup and great prices!
