This place is absolute dream! I must say I was def overwhelmed as I was just gonna get some markers and colored pencils. They have about everything from candles, cards, cutesy items, markers, pens, paint... you name it. It's a fun adventure walking down the aisles and seeing variety of many things. I love how clean and well-organized the store was. all staffs I encountered were friendly and ready-to-help. it's crazy to learn that the place has been around ever since 1960s!! I live super close-by and I can't imagine I've never been here until now. I know now where to go if I ever need anything. also they have a LOT of coloring books!! and gigantic brushes, almost look like mini brooms!

I've been coming to this store for at least 20 years & never leave empty-handed. Besides finding supplies for mediums I've practiced most of my life, there is a good chance they stock what I'm seeking; when I want to try something new or expand my skill base. Perhaps because of my fine art and graphic design backgrounds, I believe writers are cheating themselves if they don't try creating a book by hand at least once. There is more to sharing story than just the words on a page. Paper choices, fonts, graphics, colors & binding types are part of a larger picture. You're missing out on the total experience if you don't conceive & produce the entire project from beginning to end. On my last visit, I was there for handmade paper. The how-to book happened to be a lucky find, since I recently began experimenting with book binding.

Great selection for a wide variety of arts and crafts. Large section of different kinds of arts & crafts kits for children and teens, or for beginners. Shop is located in a very nice, safe, and easy to navigate part of town with their own parking lot (free, convenient parking right in front of store). Prices are comparable to other stores like Amazon and Target. I highly recommend this place for anyone needing supplies for their project.

I know nothing about painting. My friend sent me with a list of items to buy. The gentleman there was extremely helpful and walked me through explaining the paints, brushes and types of canvases I would need. Everyone was so helpful. Including helping me bring everything out to my car. The assortment is incredible. They have everything and my 5 year old daughter loved exploring. I’ll be back.

I've got grandkids and creative clients who love this place and both locations have a similar expieriance to offer. Consistency seems to be the common denominator.

I grew up with Texas Art Supply and always felt welcomed to try new mediums. The staff has always been encouraging and helpful. After training in Equine Assisted Therapies, I have taught a miniature horse to paint with a brush in his mouth, as a child holds the canvas. We have proven Dr Temple Grandin's theory of Interspecies Communication. Had the staff ever acted pretentious toward me, I never would have dared to try this new venture. Chismo the Painting Pony was made possible by his friends at Texas Art Supply. We will plan to visit each time we return home to Houston. Thank you TAS!

I'd been to the store on Voss but this one is so much bigger with more choices in their product lines. I was just looking for some charcoal pencils and they definitely had the full array of them. They have ink pads in every color for you scrapbook people and canvases for the painters in your family. Anyway if you do any kind of arts and crafts you should check them out and if you don't stop in anyway, you might find a new hobby.

I always feel cool when someone asks what I'm doing and I can say," oh, just running by Texas Art Supply to pick up a few things." Flashing my cool artsy smile! Truth is I'm an artist want to be. BUT, I'm on my way. I ran into a lady who read my mind......"spray paint"...you don't like it, or mess it up, spray over it!! Big return, not much effort! The guys that work there will help you out and not make fun of you or laugh out loud. There is so much to work with that there is something to tweak the artistic bone in everyone! Here are a couple of MY latest spray paint recycled objects. About ready to move on.

I left this place because they had specific art supplies that I needed for a watercolor virtual workshop that the other art store didn't have. The people working there were also very informative about specific art supplies and helped me find exactly what I needed. Overall I had a great experience and that people there are very friendly knowledgeable and good people overall that will take the time to help you even though they are busy or close to leaving. I just love the large variety of art supplies that they carry and the prices are very reasonable as well like when you compare them to other stores you're getting pretty much the same deal so it's good.

Any time I need a gift for an artist, a few items for a project, or inspiration I pop over to Texas Art Supply. Their staff is support kind and helpful and I've always found what I need, although I'm sure if they didn't carry it they'd either find a way to get it for me or send me to a place where I could get it. I went in to get a present for a kindergartner's birthday and came out with presents for three other kids with birthdays a month out! Such great ideas inspired by their products. They also gave us paper remnants and scraps for home art projects for free. It's truly a place for professional artists, but also for parents looking for kid art projects. I literally stood there for about 20 minutes waiting for the gentleman at the registrar that was asking everyone else who didn't need help if they needed help. And when I finally got his attention he just looked at me and came over like it was hurting him to speak with me..... I didn't give them 1 star or 2 cause everyone else in that store is more than helpful. They have more than you need and if they don't know they walk you to the location of what your looking for and get someone who knows that area. This store is great and maybe the employee was just having a bad day or I reminded him of someone but I didn't say one word to him or anything and will continue to shop there. I forgive him

They have gone out of their way many times to help me with supplies and they offer delivery on Wednesdays and Fridays if you order ahead over the phone.

The staff was super courteous and helpful. Let us browse but we're on hand if we needed any assistance. The only thing was that the aisles were a little bit too tight for a wheelchair so we ended up bumping into a few of the aisles. Otherwise it was a great experience. Hopefully they will consider making their aisles a little but more ADA friendly.

This place is going down hill. I found most of what I was looking for, but the place is getting so dirty and it looks like they haven't cleaned or replaced the carpet in 30 years. Has kid art supplies at very reasonable prices. Adult supplies are competitive in the more expensive brands. Employees are friendly and manager was on the ball with customer who refused to wear a mask. Common sense; if your disabled and cannot wear a mask for medical reasons please do curbside pickup. Don't scare the rest of us until more people are vaccinated. Manager asked them to leave and I agree with them.

I enjoy sketching, and have done it intermittently over the years. Some months I'll sketch a lot, others not at all, but every single time I pick up the hobby again I come here, if only to pick up some pencils and a pad. I've only ever been to this art supply store. I don't even know if there are any others. I can't say I've ever left wanting more. The place is clean, the workers are friendly but also aren't badgering you. Not to mention that you'd be hard- pressed to not find what you're looking for. You could split the store in half and neither would go out of business. I dare anyone who enjoys making art to walk out of this store empty-handed.

It's expensive just like Jerry's is you can probably find the same supplies cheaper online but it helps to look at everything. The store is MASSIVE it has canvases, frames, arts and crafts, paint, pastels, novelty items, the list goes on! Some stuff is actually pretty cheap but don't expect big name brand stuff to be cheaper here, it won't be. They have single sheets of paper that are pretty big too but they didn't have the one size I needed so that's why it's 4 starts but this is definitely bigger than most Jerry's Artarama's I've seen. Overall, pricey but it has everything you need in one spot!

The best brick and mortar art supply in Houston. Many art supplies available. From individual sheets of fine art papers and individual pens to tubes of paint and paint brushes. Most items are a grade above what you will find at most of the big box store craft suppliers. They have student grade up to professional level supplies in paints and brushes and colored pencils both sold individually and in sets. Watercolors also. Sketching pencils and charcoals and pads of student to archival quality papers in various grades for pencil, ink, watercolors, pastels, charcoal, markers etc. Hard to find and items rarely available in a store are often available on the shelf. Texas art is a large, well stocked art supply house for the amateur and professional artist and they have just about everything. Friendly staff with good knowledge of the artist tools.

This store made me internally happy dance! I visited this store as part of a Where's Waldo search for local businesses. There is ample parking for this standalone building. There were aisles and aisles of crafty possibilities that kept me grinning. I could easily spend hours just viewing the sheer volume of items. This will be my new craft store. Texas Art supply is older than I am and that's beginning to mean something. Locally owned and legendary for employing local artists and vagabonds; Texas Art is basically a toy store for Artists. They have an incredible inventory featuring custom framing and canvas stretching, paint from oil to water color at the low to high end of the spectrum. They also sell a uniquely large selection of pens, spray paint and chalk markers including crazy things like stationary ink markers which appear only under black light. It's a great place for serious artists as well as just a cool place to get lost in with your family over a weekend outing.

Selection is outstanding and I really appreciate how well lit the entire store is. Prices are much lower than Jerry's Artarama and Asel Art. If drawing supplies are what you're looking for, as I was, the single sheet artist paper set up isn't logically organized, but eventually found smooth plate surface bristol after a confusing hunt. Also, the Prismacolor pencil inventory has mostly off-centered leads, so it was time consuming to sort through for centered leads. I was only able to find 4 out of their inventory of maybe 15 or so that were useable. Skipped the Prismacolor Premiere all together because of same issue. Open stock Faber Castell polychromos selection is huge and well stocked.

Texas Art Supply has everything the artist needs for his or her craft. Dozens of different types of paint in thousands of different colors. More kinds of pens, in more colors , then I knew existed. Pencils for every use. They even have a comprehensive collection of erasers which differ in ways I can only imagine. Hand made paper in thousands of unique styles. Tools of the trade as well as books to do almost any art. Modeling materials, glue, miniatures, even diarama boards and sand. If you are an artist this is the candy store you have been dreaming of. There is an amazing amount of art supplies and crafting goods. There are also kid toys, books, journals, easels, and an overwhelming amount of stuff to buy and look at. Prices seem to be reasonable too.

Houston institution. I was after a specific color of Tombow Dual marker, and the slot was empty in the display. I found the other things on my list and asked at checkout about when the Tombows might be restocked. The clerk checked and found they had 45 of the color needed in the warehouse behind the store.
