Reviews of gather here

I love this place and could easily spend hours here. It has wonderful quality items and I adore the diversity of their products- including supporting small women own businesses. I will mention though that I have seen fabric that has been on the shelf for several years, full priced at ~$12 that I can score at Sewfisticated for $5.

Everyone is very helpful and considerate here, and my dog loves to say hi to the staff (we both love that Gather Here is dog-friendly). Wanted to also say thank you for requiring masks! There’s so much we don’t know about the long term effects of covid, but we already know that masking can help vulnerable members of our community stay safe. I’m so glad to see one of my favorite places taking a stand and saying that vulnerable people are worth protecting and the pandemic isn’t over!!
Ally Kotwica
Lovely, warm experience from the moment we walked in. Beautiful selection of novelty prints and basic fabrics. I found the space inviting, friendly and easy to navigate. I only wish I lived close by and could come here every day!!!
Catherine Berry
Absolutely enjoyed my recent visit. Pleasantly surprised at the beautiful fabrics, variety and the exceptional quality. Ah . . . and the notions!! Definitely will add this shop to my list of favorite haunts for my quilting supplies.

I stopped by gather here today for the second time (first time was this past August). I came by today to pick up specific items for an introductory knitting class that I will be taking next January at Cambridge Center for Adult Education. I was not at all familiar with the items that were on the class materials list and a gather here employee was incredibly helpful in helping me find the items as well as described them to a beginner like myself. The other employees I interacted with were kind as well.
There's so much to look at in there- they not only have individual materials but also have starter kits for various types of fiber projects.
They have completed projects on display such as tote bags, and as I was looking at them, I thought to myself- I want to make that! I hope to score a spot in a sewing class soon (which I've heard go quickly). They're a fantastic small business to support.

Lots of small kits for beginners. Yarn and fabric and some craft supply tools. There was even a class or gathering for embroidery or something when I went recently. They have a rewards program, helpful staff, and require masks to help support their community's safety.

Thank you gather here for being a warm & welcoming, community creating, gathering place. 🧶💕🧵The staff are the loveliest people. The products are thoughtfully curated to maximize ethically sourced, sustainable materials, while still providing affordable options like universal yarn (I bought their bamboo pop there to make a ripple bralette for my friend, which was both affordable and sustainable). The fabric’s are amazing as well, with Japanese organic prints and lots of fun fat quarter options. I love that they have patterns that come in lots of different sizes and are really thinking about how to keep gather here inclusive. I feel so lucky to have such an amazing local store to go to.
Andrew Smith
Nice shop. Good selection of fabrics. Enjoyed seeing the the long arm in action. Got several good ideas for using with our long arm.
Molly Ruggles
A wonderful store, great staff, excellent selection, a very nice addition to Inman Square. As noted by others, the pricing is quite steep. But perhaps that is what's necessary to support small businesses.

Best craft store I've visited and I'm so lucky it is my LYS. The owners have created such a welcoming space to visit and learn in addition to having a massive selection of materials made from natural fibers. The people who work here are knowledgeable and always interested in what your yarn is going to grow up to be; the yarn selection is constantly expanding and it would be difficult to leave without being inspired to make something!
In addition to being a frequent knitter/shopper, I've recently started taking sewing classes here to learn a new craft and find the selection classes and projects offered appealing to the modern maker. The machines are wonderful to work with (albeit, too much so that I have no idea how I'm going to manage without a fancy Bernina!)
Overall, a must visit if you're a crafter who finds themselves in the Boston/Cambridge area!
Annabel Smith
Learned to knit here and haven’t stopped since. I’m in this store like at least once a week. Really nice staff and beautiful products. Kind of expensive but more than worth it for the amazing quality. Definitely come here if you want to learn knitting (or other fiber crafts)!!
StarSixSeven
Wonderful little haberdashery. They don’t have all of the ancillary tools you may need but what they do have is leaps and bounds better than your typical chain store
Christine Lee
The store is always so beautifully put together and the staff is always so kind! It's my favorite place to go to buy fabrics, they have such a great selection!!
Susan Sheng
gather here is one of my favourite local shops, and their crochet and sewing classes introduced me to fiber crafting, which helped keep me sane during this pandemic! The shop is filled with all sorts of beautiful yarns and fabrics, the staff are friendly and super helpful (e.g. one time I came in having run out of discontinued yarn for a project, and one of the staff members was able to help me find a near-perfect match for that yarn!)
If you're looking to learn a new craft, build on existing crafting skills, or stock up on fiber supplies, gather here is the place to go!

Awesome shop. I entered and was greeted instantly. I said I needed sewing needles and what kind of fabric I was working with. The staff helped me find the correct item and had me out the door in under 2 minutes with the right product. I would pay any amount of money to be able to have this experience at every store in the world.

Son liked the place. Great/friendly service, selection and good prices. He bought some yarn for knitting.
Sarah Welch
This is a great craft store with tons of neat little notions. I'm a knitter, and I appreciated the selection of yarns they had for a store that's not just dedicated to yarn.
Leah Klein
Gather Here is a shop, a fiber arts school, a community hub, an arts center, a gathering place all in one. They are a fabulous resource for first time crafters to professional artists. They carry gorgeous, playful, fun, serious fabrics and yarns, and textiles of all sorts. They have all the tools and patterns you need and the helpful talented staff to get you started on, through, or casting off/stitching up/ binding it finishing off any project. Their classes post monthly and fill up fast, and their studio is great for those of us who need more space, better machines and a little moral support to work in a project.
Rory Page
First off, every staff member was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The fabric selection is incredibly tasteful, beautifully curated, and high quality. The shop is also taking very thoughtful and excellent precautions to prevent the spread of COVID. I appreciate everything about this place, and the studio in the back is well equipped and the price is very fair and reasonable for access to such incredible resources. In addition to all this, the shop is impeccably clean! For fabric (and yarn) enthusiast who enjoy high quality --> this is your spot. An XL thank you to the staff for being so friendly and welcoming, Gather here is a true gem.

I *am* the target audience for this store. I love the aesthetic & the variety of brands & crafts carried. I haven’t managed to take a class here yet, but that’s only because I moved farther away. I love coming in to sit & knit for a while - if I feel like chatting, I always meet someone interesting. No big deal if I don’t.
It’s expensive, yes, but that’s because of the brands they carry. If you do a price comparison for the same brands, they’re in the same ballpark. The process of designing & creating fabric is complicated & takes skilled operators. It’s not cheap to create quality fabric.
Rachy Newin
A fantastic shop with incredibly helpful, patient, and professional staff. I wanted a yarn that wasn't in stock and they were able to set up a preorder for me. And when I needed help matching yarns, they sent over a bunch of pictures to help me choose.
I'm primarily a yarnie and their selection is fantastic - there's a great balance of affordable workhouse yarns, popular hand dyed like Manos and Malabrigo, and unique fibers and blends.
Ava French
The staff here are wonderful and I loved taking a class as a refresher for sewing!
Kit Johnson
I absolutely loved this craft store! I could spend hours in here picking out fabrics and sewing patterns and cross stitch kits and yarn. There was a wonderful feminist and queer vibe, as well as super friendly and helpful staff. One of the employees Sue didn't hesitate to open up some sewing patterns to show us and walk us through the different steps and difficulty levels, and helped up choose the right pattern for what we wanted and our skill level.
I am looking forward to going back and picking up more supplies and lots. There are great classes held in the store that I hope to join soon.
Margaret Coughlin
What a haven! I decided to make some pillows— have not sewn in over 20 years and hence no sewing machine. I signed up for machine rental at Gather Here. They welcome you and set you up for success. Give you a great deal of work space and all the tools you need. They nicely answer questions and provide free coffee tea and cookies. The shop is a lovely display of materials, tools, handmade items and class or work space. A great community vibe with at least 3 generations working or shopping. Terrific unique concept
Jessica Ferguson
I started learning to sew here a year ago and now I can sew my own jeans. This shop is amazing; the classes are great; they carry excellent fabrics and a good although small section of notions. The classes are highly recommended. Their yarn etc selection is also great.
Marisa Carlos
Gather Here is by far one of my favorite places in Cambridge. They have beautiful products and the people who work and shop there are some of the nicest you will ever meet. They always have the products I need in stock, which is certainly not the case at other stores. Some reviewers have mentioned that their prices are high. This is true only because the products they have are extremely high quality; you will not find this quality of yarn at a Michael’s store. They do not appear to mark up their products higher than stores outside of Cambridge or even online retailers. For example, their prices on brands such as Clover knitting needles etc. are actually lower than they are at both Michaels and Amazon, and I’d much rather support GH.
Mallory Davis
I love Gather Here! I've taken a few sewing and embroidery classes and all of them were taught by kind, helpful, encouraging experts. The people who work there are always available to lend a gentle helping hand and they help make you believe that you can tackle any tricky project. I feel good about shopping at Gather Here because I know they care about supporting small businesses, respecting the environment, and carry high quality products that they enjoy using themselves. The best part, I think, is that they host community-oriented events like book club, basic life skills, and Inman Square local events.
Jill Pelavin
I've been coming here for years, and have made 2 sweaters with yarn I bought there. great selection. and I have been going to their knitters/handcrafters brunch for years, they have created a great space to gather and make stuff! (and lots of great fabric too :)
Jackie Levine
A wonderful local store. I had a rather last minute fabric need and saw gather here had what I needed on their website. Right now due to COVID they’re only doing curbside pick up and same-day pick up isn’t an option. Since I had a same-day need I decided to give them a call and Molly answered the phone. She was so kind to accommodate the pick up that same day. Without hesitation she made it happen! Truly a prime example of a local, shopping experience. Just a few hours later we picked up the fabric and it was exactly what we needed! The ‘radiance’ is such a beautiful cotton, silk blend and was lovely to work with.
5 stars to gather here — thank you, thank you!

Gather Here is one of the reasons I fell in love with my neighborhood. I have loved taking classes there from great local fiber artists and can always find a range of high quality yarn. I appreciate that they are not just a business, but that they demonstrate their values in everything from how they source their inventory to how they build community.
Ruthmary Weinger
Such a wealth of great kits, gadgets and beautiful fabrics! I love visiting this store.
Casey Penk
Yes, this place really is that good.
They sell a surprising variety of products for a smaller store, from fabric to yarn to needles.
The young woman who worked the counter answered my three questions succinctly and helpfully ("does the thread come in different weights," "which needle should I use," and "where can I find push pins?")
They sell at reasonable prices, which are comparable to a national chain.
They are switching it up and moving two blocks down the street soon, so don't be alarmed if you encounter an empty store front.
Support a small business that encourages crafting and creativity.
Malgorzata Malkowska (Gosia)
This is a cute little quilting and yarn shop with friendly staff and high quality products. I wish they had some more basics (like all purpose thread or cheap remnants for practice) but I'm a garment sewer not a quilter. Still a great small shop.
Lisa Liang Philpotts
Love that this business is in my neighborhood. They have a lovely curated selection of fabric and patterns, and they have the nicest store staff, but I have to give a special shout out for their classes. I was a lapsed cross stitcher and I had never touched a sewing machine in my life. It took me a while to muster up the courage to take a machine sewing class, but eventually I took the plunge. I had a blast in both the totebag class led by Kayla and Sara's school of sewing series. Most of the other people had a little bit of machine sewing experience but the classes still felt completely accessible to me as a complete newbie and someone with 0 spatial skills. The instructors were very patient and receptive to questions. In the months after their classes, I bought my own machine and have successfully taken on and completed my own sewing projects at home; I am totally hooked. I also took Emily's embroidery basics class which was relaxing and fun (and it inspired me to pick up cross stitching again) and Noah's helpful machine maintenance class, which I think it a must for a new sewing machine owner. I have also loved the events they have helped organize, like the winter market that featured various local makers, and the toiletry kit drive to benefit our neighbors in need. Most of all, I appreciate them making it crystal clear that their space is welcoming to ALL. Great community space and store, I can't imagine Inman Square without them!
Hanna Cheeseman-Meyer
Been shopping online with them due to the pandemic, and I really don't have any complaints. They even sometimes give you little notes with your order wishing you luck with your project. It's a nice little bright spot in quarantine life.
Erica Browning
They have everything you want for knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering, etc.. Prices are in line with what you pay in the area (I have been to a few places). The people who work there are very nice and knowledgable. They have really great classes too (I have taken the intro to circular knitting and intro to crocheting classes). They also have every other Thursday devoted to just having people come in with a beer and do their craft!
Jill Smith
The people who work here work hard, and are especially knowledgeable and attentive to customers.
Check out the online calendar for free social events.
Buy a few hours of studio space for your larger projects.
Classes are a little pricey, but they limit the students to 4. Yup 4 people.
This is an upscale shop with quality products, so expect that prices will be in line with other shops and websites of a similar type.

Gather Here is a wonderful, community-building store that means so much to me and countless other people. The beautiful monthly window displays brighten up Inman Square. Every time you walk in the door you're met with warm greetings, friendly faces, and beautifully curated products for every craft project that you can think of. When you interact with the employees, they offer useful assistance and a genuine interest in what you're making. I've taken so many classes there, from garment sewing to quilting (with Lizzy House!!!), knitting and long-arming. When my mom and I were due for new sewing machines, we got them there and it came with a free class to learn how to use our new machine (I love my Bernina!). I've learned a lot, become a better crafter, and met some amazing friends through classes there. They also make a point to stand up for what they believe in, including fairly compensating their employees, stocking their store with products from small businesses that are made mindfully made, dedicating portions of their profits for charities, hosting events to make hygiene kits or warm winter accessories or sleeping mats for people in unstable housing in the local community and blankets for refugees, building a community among other small businesses in Inman Square, etc. I feel so lucky to have Gather Here as my local yarn/quilting/sewing/craftivism store!

First time. Friendly helpful staff. Cute clean open airy feel to the store. Possibly the only shop around Central Sq to buy sewing thread. Short bus ride or 15 min walk. Color selection worked for me, dusty rose. Thank you!

My favorite LYS. A good range of knitting and sewing supplies as well as classes in a very welcoming environment. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. I kind of want to hang out there all day!
Shawn Ligocki
Great service and quality. I came in looking for a specific quality of fabric (semi-transparent for a mask) and they immediately knew what I'd want (voile) and even explained that I could buy a small quantity of it for making a mask (1/4-1/3 yard). Very friendly and helpful. What a delightful find in the middle of Cambridge!
Sarah Tweedie
