Reviews of First Landing State Park
Joanne Fairbanks
Such a beautiful State Park. I was nervous with how popular it seems, how mellow everybody was. I came in off days, and didn't experience huge crowds. The beach was gorgeous, especially the morning I went extra early for sunrise! I stayed in a cabin.. they are kind of rustic but fully stocked kitchen and very clean cabin throughout. My kids and I loved our stay. 15 minutes from Virginia Beach but out in this cabin we felt tucked away. I will definitely book out here again!

One of my favorite beaches/parks in the area. In the summer it's one of the only beaches in the area where we can bring our dog (who loves to swim!). The park has wonderful trails, and most of them are shaded. There are beaches on the Chesapeake Bay side and on the Broad Bay side, both are great. The campsites are spacious with lots of old oak trees all around. There are showers, bathrooms, a snack bar and gift shop. Be aware you do have to pay to park if you aren't planning on staying to camp. Great place to visit any time of the year.

My favorite place at the beach and something that makes Virginia Beach truly unique among resort cities. I run or hike here almost every day of the year. On hot summer days, it’s always 3-7 degrees cooler on the trails. Miles upon miles of trails through beautiful forests and wetlands. Seeing the ecology and untouched natural beauty of the area is amazing…Thick groves of ferns amongst the cypress, hidden beaches along the trails, boardwalks across the wetlands… the trails are kept impeccably and there’s a great variety. Kayaks, SUP, and boat rentals along the “Narrows” section, at the 64th St entrance. Truly one of Virginia Beach’s biggest assets.

Nice park with a interesting landscape and beautiful trails along the water, through the forest and over swamps. It's perfect for jogging and biking!
The trails are easy to walk and they range from very less than a mile to more then 8 miles.
Also super quiet and calm and not crowded at all during winter. In winter it's basically free, in summer it costs a couple of dollars admission and parking.

We enjoyed our hike here! Love that there is a trail center with restrooms open even after the office is closed. Lots of different trails to choose from. We went late September and the smell of pine was amazing. Our hike went from dirt and pine needles on the ground to thick sand at some parts. Benches throughout the hike. Clear trail markers. Overall very flat and easy hikes here. We are avid hikers and feel this is great for any beginner or someone wanting a more leisurely experience. There are lots of mosquitoes so bring bug spray!!

Absolutely love this state park! We stayed in the campground for a week and loved our site even tho it was on a four lane highway and the traffic was loud even in the middle of the night. The shower houses don't have many showers so I suggest getting there very early in the morning (I had to wait multiple times for a open shower). Loved the beach area it is perfect for sunsets and watching/swimming with the dolphins!! I also loved the bike trails to all the monuments and the camp store! We were so sad when we had to leave so we most definitely will be back!!
Anne Margaret White
Beautiful park with flat, easily walkable trails. A little confusing to get to. The Visitors Center has a very short boardwalk to the ocean, but is for campers mostly. Across the street is another entrance that leads to the Trail Center and the trails. We really enjoyed the cypress swamp - black water and all those knees poking up were a new look for us. Tons of dogs and few illegal bicyclist roaming around, so be ready to share the trails.
Vinny F
Really nice park! The hidden beach was beautiful and surprisingly not as crowded as I expected, though parking was very limited regardless. You can cycle on the main paved roads but the trails don't allow for bicycles, at least the trails I saw.
Ron Baker
Visited the first time yesterday. I have been trying to tick off state parks this year and was very glad I visited. I biked the Cape Henry Trail, campground, and beach area. The views were fantastic. Trail was nice and will definitely hire the hiking trails next visit.
Tiffany
I really enjoyed this state park. They have a variety of trails to do and they are well taken care of and marked. The parking lot was very busy and it seems limited as well so come early. They have bathrooms in the parking area at the main entrance. We fox run trail to long creek trail to kingfisher trail to cape Henry trail and went left back to the parking lot. We wanted to make a loop but walk a decent amount. The long creek trail is awesome and you walk a lot by water. There’s small little beaches you can hike down to and we stopped and ate our lunch by the water (don’t forget to take your trash with you). Overall it was an awesome state park and unhook to go again. I’d love to hike the cape Henry trail next time maybe. Lots of bikers and runners.

We love FLSP. This is a beautiful state park and we enjoy camping here when we are on the Virginia coast. Each day there are educational programs for the kids about the animals and environment. The rangers were very fun to talk to and our kids enjoyed completing the junior ranger book and visiting the Bay Lab with hands on exhibits. The sand at the beach is SO soft. One suggestion... if you are camping I'd suggest the loop away from the main camp store. This time we were at site 23, near the store, and this is also where the shuttle drives through as well as where all the day use visitors park. Last time we were on the other end of the campground and it was much more peaceful and less congested. On the weekend the area by the store and visitors center was overflowing. There are nice bike lanes on the street just outside the entrance that you can ride to atlantic ave (about 5 mi) and then access the Atlantic side of the beach. Overall its a great gem of a state park! Gorgeous sunsets over the bay too!

First time in Virginia Beach. First Landing park is top in our favorite sites. One of the best beaches is inside this park. There also rivers, trails and other features. The parking/entrance fee is $7-10 per car. The park has clean and nice bathrooms!
Meg Hamp
Location, location! If you want to be near all the happenings in Virginia Beach this is the campground. Some sites have direct access to the public beach. The beach is well maintained, the sites are well maintained, the bathrooms and showers are another story. The showers stink, I mean STINK of mold. Actually there is mold growing on the walls. The problem is there is no ventilation in the showers. There is a small playground. The camp store has almost everything you'd need to camp if you forget something. If you are on a site closer to the road, you will hear the noise.....you can see the cars/ trucks as they are very close. Choose a site wisely. The majority of site are very wooded, plenty of trees for coverage/ privacy and hammocks.
Calypso B
Loved and so grateful for this park and beach!! The best part is they are extremely dog friendly (beach included). The people there, majority, were super sweet, friendly, and respectful, even the residence. It's worth the $7-10 to park for the day with bathrooms, rinse showers, store(super friendly and helpful), and even laundry room. There's also a nice, well kept, shaded trail from the overflow parking to beach. The biggest downside was the lack of garbage cans, no where to put your garbage, found litter, and worse poop bags. Pet owners did a great job cleaning up their pups messes then would have to bring the poop bags to their towel/tent to sit in that hot sun or worse people left them by entrance.
Definitely will be back!

This is the third time in five years that I have camped at First Landing. I absolutely love it here!
They have so much to offer...camping, a beach, swimming, sunsets over the bay, nature trails, historical sites, camp store, clean restrooms and showers, pet friendly, a playground, it's close to restaurants, a grocery store, shopping and so much more!
Kraig Keller
Trails, beeches and camping, great for any type of adventurer! Nice calm views of the bay. Watched some gorgeous sunsets full of dolphins! Crabs will visit you on the beach too! Lovely soft sand and not too hot like a few miles away on the coast!
Alice W
Neat place! I was surprised to see Spanish moss in Virginia. The trails through maritime forest, swamps, and marshes are so unique and something that I associated with the deep south instead of Virginia. The beach is nice, especially since it's not crowded and it is only a short walk from the parking lot.
Timothy Barth
Well marked trails, with some and up and down. Word to the wise: the Visitor Center and the Trail Center are not the same place. Check maps carefully when you plan your walk. Good photogenic views along the water.
S Hugate
Very nice. Camped at a tent site and had a great time. We took large kayaks and were disappointed that the only boat ramp/launch was miles away requiring you to drive there. So that is the reason for 4 stars and not 5.
Burcu
Quite interesting and beautiful landscape.
Walked the Bald Cypress trail before and it was a pleasure to see the bald cypresses for the first time!
This time we took advantage of having 70 deg weather in December and walked the White Hill loop trail. It was so relaxing and the scenery was absolutely stunning.
There are much more to explore in this park including the camping sites. Looking forward to visit it in spring again.
** there was a $7 parking fee per car.**

It's a blast! All the nature you can get. Great campsites, boat sock, trails, beach and more. Busy but not too many to be overwhelmed by it. Check it out!
So nice to be able to take friends and family here. You can never go wrong with nature. There's something for everyone.
SM BM
Love this park! Great cabin rentals, trails and beach! We've lived our stays here and walking the trails.. even great having local outfitters with sunset tours right from the beach!
Amanda K
We traveled all the way from NY to here. What’s better than camping in a vacation destination on the ocean ?
It was nice being able to walk down to the beach whenever we wanted. We could drive to town and visit the attractions.
Highlights:
Right on the Ocean
Near by attractions:
Virginia Beach Board walk
Virginia Beach aquarium
First landing military base and light house
Rodney Hess
The process of visiting this site is a challenge. Because it's on a military base your mobility is quite limited. You park just inside the entrance of the visitor gate after clearing your identity with the guard. There is a second checkpoint where guards check your bags and you surrender your IDs for a pass to allow you to board the shuttle to go to the visitor center. At the visitor center, you pay the fee if you wish to climb the lighthouse. Otherwise you walk around a limited area in the sun to view the various monuments. Be prepared for much walking.
Jeremy Snyder
Very impressed with the rv camping experience here. The sites are secluded with nice tree surroundings and cover. Short walk to a boardwalk that takes you the picturesque beaches of the Chesapeake Bay. Outstanding sunsets and great views across the board. A truly unique and visually vibrant experience.
Jake
Great walking trails and some paved trails. They are marked, but figuring out where they actually go is best figured out with a map on your phone. Watch for some trails branching off into wild game/ unofficial trails. Easy elevation, my 7 year-old twins walk it with me.
Stephanie Grandstaff
Our first camping trip, but our 4th visit here. We love camping right on the dunes. There are endless trails on the inside and free roaming along the bay. The campsites are nice, good tree coverage, with bathhouses (not insulated or temp controlled) along the way. Relatively quiet depending on what your neighbors are doing, everyone pumped down around 10pm. Just a lovely place to visit or camp. Check the site for the seasonal changes and hours of the Cafe and such.
Angela Mabel
Just plain gorgeous. Clean park/area. Lots of incredible wild life. Pet friendly! And such a great view of the sunset!
caine wallace
Great area for only $7 to park for the day! Nice beach area a little rougher material to walk in then most, will definitely see crabs and we even seen dolphin!
J Couture
My favorite park to come hike and/or trail run. We came while I was in town. The only downside was the exercise stations that were removed that were on the main trail. Other than that, great trails, and beautiful scenery even in the Winter time.
Aurélie Vilmer
A slice of heaven. Trails are all beautiful, and Nature is well preserved. Take your time and enjoy the beauty around you, you might see some funny wildlife.
Brittany Kearns
Beautiful! Had a great hike with the dogs today. Only complaint is other dog owners not picking up poop and disposing of it. Orrrrr bagging it and leaving it the poo bags on the trail. What's the point of that? Other than the inconsiderate dog owners, it was great. We always clean up after our pups. It's simple to do. 🐕 …
Marylou Riche
Great place to walk! Over 20 miles of trails. Birds, snakes, water views. Definitely one of my favorite places in Virginia Beach!
Jennifer Smithson
Always an amazing park that has been well maintained over the decades. Some of the trails are so beautiful you can’t help but stop and take photos. I love running 🏃♀️ thru the park. …
Candie Beiler
If your staying close to 65th street just walk it’s free. If you drive in there is a charge during busy season. Peaceful perfect for walking, walking with dogs, kids, biking trails mostly flat, running, benches along the way and saw some people fishing. Hidden Gem with in VA Beach!! Easy Trail clearly marked!
Alana Furrow
What a great park! We have always hiked, geocached and even stayed in a cabin while visiting this park .. but have never been able to score an RV site. Got lucky this weekend and had a quick stay from Saturday until Sunday. Enjoyed walking down to the water on a new boardwalk we didn't know existed. Also had no idea just how many sites this park had! Very spacious and lots of dog friendly folks here. Great camp store with fun VA park goodies 😀
BEN
I was a camper in the area that is a group camping area tent area. The spaces were very close together. The RV spots in the 180’swere a lot nicer and bigger and more private. Bathrooms were worn. They function. I was here in October and it was pretty full. There is some nice walking around. In general when you consider how close it is to the city it was decent. Not cheap. $45 for my spot. I imagine RV spots or more. Site 52

I have been here before to visit both sides of the park: the bay beach side and the marsh trail walk side. Both are beautiful, and the trail walk side had many flat and well marked paths. I am glad we arrived early, as when we left there was no parking at the nature/trail center, and people had to park at the front and walk to the trails. There are beautiful marsh views and wildlife throughout this park. Mosquitoes were attacking us when we stopped, so just keep moving. The day we went we brought our dog, as did many other people. All dogs were on leashes and there were no issues. The bay side offers fabulous views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. It has nice clean sand, and many people were swimming.
Nicole DV
It's an easy level hiking path in the forest. Welcoming pets and all ages hikers. It's a long one, but you can always turn around if you feel overwhelmed.
David Lieu
Biked the main trail from the visitor center to the end and back. Parts of the trail were too sandy and needed to hike the bikes. A marathon was happening at the same time. For a Sunday it wasn't too busy. Staff at vistor center were amazing. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the park. We also biked across the street to the beach. Vistor center on beach side was more historical and less nature oriented. Also the hands on stuff was all closed.
Would definitely visit again to explore the beach more or hike the other trails. Junior ranger program seemed to be tied only to summer camp programs so kids weren't able to participate.
Harry McGinnis
Great place to hike and bike. Biked the Cape Henry trail from ocean end to Lake end. Next time we do this we will go the opposite way and jump in the lake. It was a big party on the water, great music coming from the boats and awesome vibe. There are bathrooms at the visitors centers, a picnic area and multiple people walking with there dogs.
Kerin
Many different trails. Mostly flat and dog friendly. It’s very busy on nice days with the parking, but not crowded on trails since there are so many.
Khanhlinh Le Begin
Nice national state park and beach. Beautiful beach. You can hiking or swimming, enjoying the weather 😍😍😍 …
Tina B
This campsite is one of the best campgrounds I've gone too! (We go camping several times a year) the camping rates are so cheap and the campground is absolutely gorgeous! There is access to the beach (bay side) from the campground which is amazing, it's the best of both worlds in one great spot. Bathrooms are clean, the tiled showers are private, (separate from the bathrooms) and also clean. Staff was friendly, there's scheduled activities which are pretty decent. I would definitely go back again!
david zhu
Great experience tent camping at First State Landing Park! Price was reasonable ($30 a night, for a camp site that fits 2 cars, 2 large tents, with cooking fire pit and a picnic table). Bathroom was a short walk away, as well as kids playground near by. Best of all: easy access to the park's many trails and the beach! Park staff were wonderful and friendly
Ross Willoughby
Cabin 14 was great and nicely secluded in the woods. Beds and pillows have protective covers, linens are no longer provided. (thanks covid). We brought everything we needed and slept comfortably. Kitchen is well stocked. Common room is comfortable, they've added a TV/DVD to the wall. It was 100°+ and the AC held fine. Sadly way to hot for fire pit.
Beach access is across the street. We drove. Beach is calm, great sandbars. Park office had restrooms, washing station, and snack bar.
4/6/2022 Update - everything the same, but spring pollen count was crazy!!! We stayed in 18 this time and shower was updated. Looked great!
A Jones
Many great hiking trails. Excellent campground on the Chesapeake Bay. Highly recommend.
Angie Stancliff
We've been coming to this park for 30 years, and we'll continue to enjoy this amazing place. The campground is big, and easy to use. Make reservations 11 months in advance or it will fill up. The cross overs are getting old but still solid. The beach is mostly clean- just noticed this year that there was more overnight trash.
Jason Williams
Cloudy day, only went to the beach today, I didn't joke any of the trails although I do often. Always clean facilities and the ladies in the visitors center are super nice.
There is ample parking. The camp ground is also great. They allow you to hang hammocks and the grounds are always clean.
Kathleen Mudge
The trail I walked was clear and had other trails where bikes were not allowed, that were rustic but clear. It’s a safe and beautiful park. I look forward to exploring so much more of it.
Jason Ambrose
One of my favorite state parks. The beach is beautiful and the trails are just as amazing. The campground is clean and peaceful with nice sized sites.
If you really want a treat, take the cape Henry trail and find a secluded beach on the river..you'll be the only ones there!
Rachel Sherwin
I love the trail and the wildlife. I meet lots of dogs and their humans along the way. So beautiful and I can hardly wait to visit again.
The only downside no restroom until you get back to the visitor center.
Tricia Reynolds
Beautiful! You need a full day to explore the shore side and trails on the other side..
Tina Merryman
There is lots of room, the staff are so accommodating. Upwards of 100+ come every year for a camping experience that is priceless
Tshibambe christian nsapo
It's just an amazing site to visit, you ok never regret . communion with nature , it has an allure of camping, adventure, retreat and beauty , all this in one site . The beach side is breathtaking.enjoy!
Nicole Watson
One of my favorite places to camp! Everything is located conveniently. Location is beautiful. Beach is peaceful and tranquil. Have seen dolphins from shore on various occasions. Park is well kept 👌 I look forward to many trips to come!! …
Jennifer Gripka
So many different trails and different experiences. Spanish moss hanging from the trees, forests to explore as well as beaches, and trees rising up out of swamps. Phenomenal!!!
Zhigen Lin
Great place to visit. It has trails, picnic areas, camping area, and near the beach. Definitely a place to get away to enjoy nature and spend time with friends and family.
Looking at the bald cypress jutting out of the swamp, the landscape is otherworldly. Combining with the sounds of the birds and other creatures I can’t identify, it helps to remove you from your daily routine. Don’t forget to breathe and enjoy the breeze as you walk the trails. The cool breeze on a summer day was perfect.
Hope you enjoy your visit.
Angie Bohon
Beautiful campground with plenty of shade and great beach access. We definitely recommend trying to get a campsite closer to the beach side as opposed to the road side as some campsites are very close to Shore Drive, a roadway with a fair amount of traffic noise.
Kenny Dorsey
This is one of the nicest state parks I have been to, in any state. The campground here is amazing; right up against the beach, only a dune separates you. Last time we were here at the beach, there were dolphins swimming so close to us, that I started to get a little nervous! On the other side of the park, across the road, is walking and biking trails, through swamps, etc. The staff is friendly and helpful (I say this in many of my reviews, but when I do, they really are). I can't wait to come back again.
Christal Vaught
We didn't get to stay as long as we hoped due to unexpected travel time but it's a nice park/ camping area. We were camped real close tonthe bay. About 5 minute walk. Will visit again
Melissa “Missy” Eicher
This is my favorite place. This is where my husband and I got married almost a month ago! Very beautiful park with beaches and trails. Camping in RV or tent. Absolutely love this place..
Craig Dumnich
Beautiful park! Tons of trails! Flat and not hilly. Peaceful.
Allan Voichuk
Very nice place for hiking. There are so many trail options. That was great. The trails take you through wooded areas to a river and a beach. I can't wait to hike on the other trails.
I enjoyed being able to see various snakes, lizards and crabs all along the hike. I highly recommend this place. It's great for running/jogging, hiking and bike riding(on some trails).
The bike trails are nice and wide. They would work well for off-road rollerblading!
Bill Franklin
What an amazing place. Virginia State Parks are the best. I did the Osmanthus as well as a few others on a very hot day in late May. A very unique swampland environment. No elk or bears here but you will see dragonflies, lizards, frogs, squirrels, and a wide variety of birds. Surprisingly few mosquitos. That's probably because this is a well balanced wetland and dragonflies actually eat mosquito larves and there's a lot of dragonflies here. I loved it here, I felt immersed in green here, in life, and could easily spend a whole day here hiking or biking.
Virginia Beach Living
This was one of the Best Beaches I've been on. Trails, Great Views and more. Fun for the whole family.
Bryan Vickers
Went to visit the beach with our dog, and discovered they have campsites right over the dunes from the beach. We will definitely be making reservations to camp there!! Very clean beach, friendly patrons and staff. Can't wait to come back and stay longer!
Debi
Nice trails, beaches, camping, cabins and programs plus a cool outdoor wedding venue. The Chesapeake Bay is on one side of the street (Shore Drive Entrance). Directly across are trails and some lead to "The Narrows" beach. This area is a good environmental learning experience; there are many fallen trees and exposed root systems due to erosion. For the best experience, consult the trail map. Some allow bikes. Dog friendly. Book early for premium campsites and camps. Additionally, this state park has incredible historical significance. Enjoy and learn.
Brian Williams
Excellent place for the beach, hiking, and bird watching! The raptors! Well worth a visit.
Mary Sampsel
The beach is nice....walked some trails..very well taken care of
Stef Bos
Mangroves without water currently but still worth a visit for the animal world....come back in fall or winter for the swampy Vistas.
Randal Frazier II
Beautiful area, with a touch of American history rolled in to it. Great place for the whole family, whether you are looking for a place to camp, hike, swim, kayak, boat, sunbathe, or bird watch. Only got to explore a small portion at the Narrows due to being distracted by the ospreys nesting, but it means there is still plenty to enjoy next time without feeling like I've already done it.
stephanie allen-abreu
We hike here regularly. We train here year round. This park has so many options depending on what you are going for. Need vert? The secret trail to the dunes. Beach, woods and wide open spaces? You'll see that all on the Cape Henry trail. Skinnier trail? Hit Long Creek. The staff is great, super helpful and knowledge.
I'm very thankful we have a large park like this in our area.
Valerie D
Kingfisher. Spiders beautiful relaxing spot. Lots of fishing. Calm waters. Luv it here
Susan Distefano
This is a quiet, peaceful place surrounded by cypress trees and swamps. It offers well maintained walking trails that have a few benches for those who need a break. Vending machines and a visitor center offer refreshments and snacks. Restrooms are clean.
Xrijlov “Lilov” Bagaporo
We camp at First Landing every year! 🏕
The camp sites are surrounded by trees, this one we chose this year is really close to the beachfront, bath house and has electric and water (convenient for those with little kids). The sunset is amazing. There's tons of things to do for little kids. The water is safe as well, you can go a few feet off the beach but the water does not suddently becomes deep. Early morning walks are always rewarding for us at least. Fellow campers handed us some of their catch (crabs, fish) 😁
Every morning, we hear the raising of the US flag + singing of the national anthem, military helicopters fly overhead all day too. 💕
Glamping? There are Yurts that has the best view of the park and the beach, you can also choose to stay at the cabins, and camp sites for those with RVs.
And if you are Filipino like us, Jollibee, Red Ribbon and IhawIhaw Pinoy Restaurant is a short drive to buy "pasalubong": ChickenJoy, Peach Mango pie,, Halo-Halo... Mango cake, Chicken Empanadas, Cheese Ensaymada, Ube Cake, etc.
Robert Beard
Awesome state park close to Virginia Beach. Great trails to hike, beach access for wind surfing (or whatever they call it), and historical stuff with info on why the pirates like Blackbeard hung out here. I saw a few cool birds and lots of Spanish moss.
Kayla Donn Richardson
Great beach. Pulled up in my in-laws' boat. Parked in the edge of the sand. Other boaters were really helpful, which was great since my FIL is newish at boating. People were friendly and respectful. Very pleasant. Made note of the location to return.
Nathan Hunzeker
Cabin for 6 was perfect! We had 6 adults and 2 kids. We cooked on the stove, in the oven, and on the grill. Everything worked perfect. Almost entire balcony was always in the shade and the screened in porch is a bonus. kids were happy that we were so close to the beach. Coming here again.
mark silverstorf
My best friend from Charlottesville is staying in a cabin at Seashore State park this weekend. Cabins are nice and cozy. There were no towels or bed linens though. Park is beautiful as usual at this time of year. Enjoyed it.
F
This park is absolutely beautiful and it adjoins the beach! There are hiking trails, a camp, and easy beach access. The park abuts a military installation. Expect loud noises and low flying aircraft from time to time. There is a camp store if you forgot some beach essentials.
scwsJoe Rakes
Found this place in 1981 and have stayed multiple times over the years. As I got older we upgraded to motel rooms but still come to the park to spend the day. It's a bit over priced but a good experience for the kids. My kids spent many days searching for shells on the beach...we had many enjoyable dinners under the trees here at our campsite. You can't go wrong with a trip to First Landing state park....formerly Seashore state park
Swetha Y
One of my favourite park/beach in Virginia Beach. I like that it is not a commercial beach but a very laid back space. They have electric vehicle chargers and vehicle cleaning water pumps, restrooms in the parking premises. You can use these services free of cost once you enter the park with entry fees. Good bet for the entrance fee paid. Fine sand dunes, blue waters, clear skies on a sunny day- spread a sheet on the sand and take a nap on the beach with no one to disturb your ambience. It’s fun to watch people walking their dogs and families gathering together at this beach.
John Cheng
Cape Henry Lighthouse is also here. It is inside a navy base so you have to bring official ID to have access to this place. It is very nice and may be able to spot dolphin at the ocean.
Willie Stalnaker
Awesome camping experience other than a lot of bugs at night but that is too be expected. Beautiful private beach and just 10 minutes from Virginia beach boardwalk and everything there to do.
Teresa Lane
Walked my dog on the Bald Cypress Trail today. It was a great hike. Very beautiful and it wasn't busy on the trail when I was there. It cost $10 to get in which surprised me. $7 during the week.
Heather Eans Gayeski
Beautiful 3,000-acre park. The rangers are all amazing friendly hard-working people taking care of the park. It's 7 dollars to park and be there each day.
Yeska Beastmode
Nice park with beach access (can get a bit crowded in summer). It has two separate entrances which don’t connect (if in car) unfortunately. Has a lot of trails (partially muddy) for walking and biking. There is paid parking but also gets crowded and hard to find a good spot on the road. Nice views.
Kathryn Corselius
I think this beach is a hidden gem! I loved how private the waterfront was; this would be a perfect place to camp for a weekend to enjoy both the hiking trails and the water.
Vidhi Gada
Great place for some hikes ranging from short 0.5 miles all the way to 10+ miles as well as encompassing different landscapes. All the trails were very well marked, the rangers were super helpful and we had a good time here.
Chelsea Skinner
One of our favorite State Parks to visit. Beach on one side of the road and on the other are tons of trails meandering through swampland. Well marked trails with bridge crossings. Friendly people and lots of dogs!

We saw so much wildlife. Works as an outing in the middle of the day because there's plenty of shade throughout to protect from heat. Lots of benches scattered through her trails for a quick picnic. Options for every interest level and length. We took a combination of the yellow orange and red trails to get to Osprey. Frogs, lizards, snake, racoon, cardinals, crabs and more birds I don't know identifying names. Initially annoyed at 7 dollars fee, but a flush bathroom at parking and all the beauties made me feel it money well spent.

This is such an awesome location here in Virginia Beach! There are so many hiking trails to explore, as well as options to launch your boat or paddleboard/kayak. This is a great place for family activities, and I love coming here and walking around with my kids.
Frank Columbus
Scenic nature park with a boat ramp and hiking trails.
Veronica Jacobs
Beautiful area to camp in with bath houses and store close to you. Beach and nature trails within walking distance. Beach is nice to with boardwalk and outside shower. It is also within miles of Virginia public beach j
Hannah Cardwell
Visited here with my husband, sister and her two small children. We had a wonderful time! The beach was not overly crowded, it was clean and the water was very calm. Perfect for swimming, especially with two kids. The bathrooms were very clean, and the general store had lots of options. All of the staff was nice and all indoor facilities required masks. We had a great experience and can’t wait to come back and camp and hit some of the trails.
Jean Holman
Love that you can either visit the ocean or the forest! Not many natural areas offer both. There are parking fees, but supporting this amazing park is money well spent and keeps the amenities from becoming crowded.
The beach-side is on the Chesapeake Bay, and has wide, clean sand expanses. With fewer people than other beaches, it's a pleasure to walk the drift line or set up a spot to watch the wildlife. The forest side has miles of trails interspersed with wooden walkways and overlooks. They wind through bogs where cypress knees and Spanish Moss are everywhere. There are historic sites like the Indian Grave and "longhouse", as well as information signs for the flora and fauna. In late summer there are areas with wild blueberries, and fall is a mushroom extravaganza! Pets are allowed on leash, and this is one of my dogs favorite adventures! Although trails are marked, it is worthwhile to pick up a trail map at the Visitor's Center. Helps keep track of paths you take!

Awesome place. Well maintain.worth the stop if your nearby

Love it! The nature trails and views are amazing, great local getaway for the family and kids. The trails are clean and it’s a very safe park. My daughter loves riding her scooter down the trails and playing on the playground.
Patrick McCarel
Nice campground with clean bathrooms and showers. Sites are spaced well for some privacy and only a short walk to the beach. Positioned next to a Military Base, you will hear Revelry twice a day!
Cathy Sarmento
Easy parking and beach access. The museum is very informative and well done.
Jason VP
Miles of trails to explore on foot or bike! Amenities on site are open. Pet and family friendly. Beach here is excellent in the warmer months, as it's on the inlet side and not the ocean so it stays more calm.
Kathleen Gorby
Nice trails, well marked. This is a great place to take a 16 month old when he is learning to walk!! He had so much fun wandering down the trails.
Alycia Hancock
I didn’t know what to expect with a quick yurt trip but I was pleasantly surprised!!! Beautiful views from the yurts, and it was a short walk to the beach! The beach was beautiful and was not crowded at all!
The only downside was the bathroom but what can you expect on a campground.
Richard Elder
First Landing State Park gets its name because it's where the English colonists first landed. That's right our English Ancestors first landed here back in 1607. It must have been beautiful then it's super beautiful now. Definitely come down here and get back in touch with your roots baby!
Teresa Cole
We love camping here. Have been going each summer for over 10 years. It’s gotten progressively busier, to the point it’s hard to even get a reservation. While I love it, the onslaught of folks camping means that not everyone respects the park. Litter at camp sites, on the beach and on the trails is increasingly common. People bag their dog poop and then leave it on the trail. Throwing trash in the wooded areas of camps. It’s unfortunate.
Kyle Hartmann
A popular state park near Cape Henry, First Landing is most popular with beach goers who use the car park to head to the beach on the border of the confluence of Chesapeake and Atlantic Ocean. Across the highway are walking and biking trails which seemed to have a decent amount of traffic. Many plants are at their northernmost range at First Landing, which is really neat to see if you are from the north and don’t wish to travel much more south to see them, such as Spanish moss. The trail near the lake is especially neat, but they’re all very nice and well-maintained; there is a $7 charge for vehicular entry. Worth a visit if you’re a nature buff or simply looking to get some exercise or visit a beach. Cheers.
Iriana Cruz
Loved this park. We did 2 of the trails. I would recommend the bald cypress trail if you dont have all day. Must see in VA Beach.
emily anderson
This is a. Amazing place for hiking biking and running. There are paved and unpaved hiking and biking trails. Love that I can walk 3 miles and not even notice..my kids and the puppy love it here too! Highly recommended. There are public bathrooms as well.
Kimberly Beward
Visited yesterday with my dog!!! Lots of trails. We saw marshlands and the beach! Was very enjoyable. Park is well kept and there is plenty of parking. Trails are maintained. Beautiful place
Melissa May
Fun place to walk- several trails to take. Perfect place for a spooky walk at night with the dark waters and tree nubbins sticking out. Then you can walk around to the bay side for more beachy scenery. Not too crowded in January and the trails were muddy but not so bad.
Adrien K
Beautiful park with lots to see and do. The beach access is awesome. $7 to park all day. Bathrooms, outside showers, snack bar. Handicap access to beach. Water was warm and very calm when we visited the end of July. The water is very shallow great for small kids
TJ Colaci
Absolutely stunning park! Both the hiking trails and beach side are gorgeous natural areas. I found the beach to be very clean and not super crowded. Tons of beautiful seabirds including droves of pelicans. One might be lucky enough to find good shells or sea stones. The trails were immaculate and it seems most folks respect nature here. They are a mix of Boardwalk and dirt paths. So many different types of trees and even some Spanish moss! The education center is great for kids and adults, and teaches about the local wildlife and foliage. This is a great day for people of all ages, plus dog friendly. Peaceful and educational! The rangers I met are so pleasant as well. Five stars!
Stanley
Dope vacay trip for my BFF. Lots of swimming, fishing, and crabbing spots. We had a campsite so no problems with parking. Friendly rangers and hella s'mores. Camp hosts left dog poop and a dog bowl at our site but we just threw it out.
Richard Troxel
Great trails. Did not realize the parking $7 fee and they strictly enforce it. Soft trails that are mostly pretty wide. We walked Osprey to White Hill Lake to Cape Henry loop off of 64th street. 6 mile loop and not a lot of pedestrian traffic. Great for dogs.
Colby Lenz
I love running the trails in First Landing. I'm not a Virginia resident and the $7 day pass for a vehicle is a bit steep, so I usually park outside the gate on 64th Street on the east end or over by Cape Story Park off Shore Drive on the west end. Then I just jump on Cape Henry trail and head into the park. There are a few maps that rate the trails, but other than distance there's not much difference in difficulty (at most they're gently rolling). The trails along the Broad Bay side are great. Cape Henry trail would be great on a gravel bike, but since I only run here, I try and branch off as quickly as I can to the side trails. Lots of combinations to get the distance you want.
alicia torres
I love this state park! There’s so many trails to hike along at varying distances. From 1 mile to 6 miles there’s something for everyone. Parking fee is $7 but absolutely worth it especially if you stay for more than an hour. Lots of parking spaces and friendly workers. There’s a trail center which has souvenirs like hoodies, zip ups, stickers , dog treats, hats but most importantly a map of the park which I recommend getting. Even after a rainy day, all the trails except the Cape Henry one (6 miles) were not muddy or slippery to walk/run on. There’s wooden bridges , soft trails, paved trails , with different types of terrain. Weekend hikes with friends and pets are guaranteed to be worth your while.
Courtney Tyler
This park is gorgeous and the facilities are super clean. Since it's on the bay, you can paddleboard and kayak and take long easy walks on the shore.
CTrain686 Zorn
Plenty of easy hikes. Camping available.
Amy Marcum
We didn't stay very long due to the weather but there is a great little beach, many walking trails and camping areas. I can't wait to go back.
Ashton John
First we went to the wrong place but once we got there it was a beautiful place lots of trails the beach was so nice I definitely would recommend on a not so busy day!
Terry Lynch
We loved this park. The beaches were spacious, the water perfect in July, the sunsets were beautiful and the camping and cabins made the time there special. We had a family reunion and most rented cabins. I camped. We spent the day on the beach and watched the sunset! Be present. Be with nature. Enjoy this park.
Gary Flaskegaard
A friend of myself, went out on a walk thinking it was a six-mile round trip, only to find out that it was a six-mile one-way walk. Definitely somewhere you want to bring water with you they do not have water jug filling fountains. the trails are true hiking trails along with one paved bicycle/walking trail. Has a wonderful Beach area up near the boat launch area where you have ocean water but with no Riptides and such not a lot of people out there so you can enjoy it a quiet family time if you bring family with you. This is a state park it does cost you to enter the park During certain hours in certain times of the year. Unless you're a disabled veteran where state parks are free for veterans who live in the state.
VB Local
Great park to visit. I've had numerous pike rides through this park over the past 30+ years. My wife and I were even married on the beach here.
Nathan Rice
I was impressed on my first visit. The trails provide a fun walk, hike or ride. It was also within walking distance of the beach for a walk on the sand.
Racheous Point of view
Lots of trails to walk! You could easily spend hours here! They have water fountains. Dogs allowed! 7$ for parking. Restrooms on site! Most people wearing masks. Educational information and many Cypress along the trails!
can onur
It is nice place for the kids. It was a good tent camping experience. We were requested water and electricity and we haven’t any issues except late night high volume talkings and laughings.
Malcolm K
Lovely place for walking & gravel biking. The camping on the other side is also really nice, and right next to the beach.
Matt
Very neat place to walk. Most of the paths were paved and wooden planked. There were some dirt paths as well. We really enjoyed the natural beauty of this park. From the wildlife to the swamp areas. Took some really interesting photos with trees and hanging moss. There seemed to be plenty of bathrooms and a museum. The only drawback was the amount of parking near the museum, despite the $7 parking fee. We could not find a spot close to the path we wanted to venture down near the museum. So, we had to park a fair distance from the main area in another parking lot far from the museum. Ended up, we walked a considerable distance to get to the path we intended to walk. Which, made our kids feet wear out prematurely and we didn't get to enjoy the entire length of the path. All in all, a great place.
Noah L Taylor
Amazing park with fun trails. My wife and I went here to escape from work for the day. It was so nice just to walk the trails with our puppy. Easy to get to and easy to navigate the trails. You'll see plenty of other people too, so this was a nice place to help socialize our dog. Saw some wild life and got good exercise. Would absolutely recommend for anyone!
Mariah Grant
Have came here since I was a kid and back when it was differently named, Seashore State Park. Absolutely beautiful place, I wish the trails were easier to find as I kept finding myself lost last time but.. other then that it's awesome!
Alora Witham
Lovely hiking trails and amazing views
GoKayak! Paddle with a Porpoise
This is such a beautiful place with tons of wildlife and history. There is a lot to explore with miles and miles of trails. It is amazing that such a quiet natural reserve is so close to the Virginia Beach oceanfront resort area because you feel like you are in another land.
Heidi G
Great experience! It was busy when we got there on a Saturday. The campsites were packed. But the beach was not crowded Saturday evening! Sunday was quiet and the rustic campsite was nice!
Catherine Page
My favorite place is the world. I recommend this to all of my friends who visit. Best sunset view!!! So many trails and wooded areas. $7 for parking but you can ride bike or walk for free. Can even rent canoes. We always make friends- lots of nice people here!
Nancy Pouliquen
First Landing State Park is a great outing for all ages. It is pet friendly as well as bike friendly. There are forest and waterside hikes filled with many raptor birds, blue crab, mussels, oysters, sandy beaches as well as thick forest trails. Bring your camera!
Google User
Such a beautiful state park. Located on the Chesapeake Bay with great trails for walking and biking. For the most part, camp sites are spacious and fairly private. The camp store is one of the best I've seen. Only complaint, it was cold when we visited so we spent $18 on firewood since we couldn't bring our own. What we bought was not cured and did little to create a nice cozy fire! Otherwise, all wonderful. We will return.
Fawn R
My favorite state park so far! Great early fall vacation. Stayed in beautiful wooded camp ground with clean facilities that was very private. Beach wasn't busy with clear water and dolphins! Lots of hiking trails on the other side of the park through a swamp area with spanish moss. Everything was gorgeous!
April Lightsey
I have been hiking here at least once a week for several months. There are a variety of trails at different difficulty levels and lengths. There are comfortable benches with views at intervals along the trail. There is a wide variety of birds and wildlife, including Bald eagles I regularly see toward the eastern end of the Cape Henry Trail. On the other side of Shore Drive is a nice beach that is much less crowded than the Virginia Beach ocean front (although the waves are smaller, too.) The facilities are consistently clean, and the rangers are knowledgeable and friendly. There are cabins and camping spaces available, but I am local and have never used them.
Daniel LaPorta
Seriously a must see for anyone who likes to hike, bike, or trike. I was just looking for a word to rhyme. Anyways beautiful beaches on the back entrance and gorgeous paths on the north side. Enjoy some Tinder profile pics 😉 #thisiswhyimsingle …
Danielle E
First Landing is beautiful- and huge! There are three entrances. These pics are from the park on the Bay side. There is also a massive park with walking trails across the street. That was two entrances (that do not connect).
Michelle K
Cabins were standard for Virginia State Parks. The best thing about this park is you have the beach AND woods to explore. Lots of restaurants nearby in case you don't want to cook. Grocery store about 1/2 mile away.
Jennifer Metz
I love hiking here because of the excellent trails and scenery. There are two entrances but be prepared to pay for parking. Usually between $5-9. You may want to get here a little before 10 AM because the parking fills up quick, especially during the summer time. Be sure to bring plenty of water and use the restroom. There are not many bathroom and water areas along the trails. Be careful coming here after a rainstorm as it will either be muddy or flooded. The only trail that allows biking is the cape henry. There is an extended path that runs along shore drive outside of the park. I rode 35 miles from my house, through the cape henry trail, to the oceanfront and back. I couldn't sit for a week, but it was fun in the moment. If you are looking for a nice flat hike, I would suggest the cape henry trail. If you would like something a little hillier, then the long creek trail is good. Be careful as I got stung here. I also ran into a few small snakes, they will surprise you if you're not paying attention. Some of them blend in with the roots. Wear some decent shoes as there are roots everywhere. I had a friend trip and hurt her foot.
Sarah Vaden
I absolutely LOVED this park. Breathtaking views! Peaceful! There are many different hiking trails. Dog 🐶 friendly ❤️ …
Aimee Dolan
Beautiful state park! If you want beach time, park here! Office is open until midnight for late arrivals. Spots are a wee difficult to back into so get a pull through if you're not comfortable backing in. facilities are clean and store is prepped for any last minute thing or souvenirs your heart desires. Highly recommend.
Michael Gottesman
Beautiful state park that includes a wide range of trails with stunning views. The many wooden bridges and viewing platforms provide great access to the unique swamp environment. As a bonus, you also get access to a very nice section of beach on the other side of the road although the lot can fill up. If you are in the area, and enjoy the outdoors, this should be a top priority.
Crystal Woods
Very expensive just to park and see the beach. They charge by the car load. Stay on the boardwalk. Would have been nice to have free parking. If the weather is fantastic and warm & if you want a quiet beach, this might be the place.
J C.
We checked out the beach, and hiked a few trails. A lot of historical knowledge to be gained by visiting this park! Lots of wildlife, and the trails are mostly shaded even on the hottest day. They also have a good sized campground too, very nice place we highly recommend.
Donald Weis
Many miles to explore, nice.
Robert Alvarez
Loved this state park. The visitor center was closed but would love to stop in when they open from covid. Beach was clean and very empty. Would recommend stopping in.
Rebecca Serrano
It took me way too long to finally visit but it was definitely love at first sight! There’s so much beauty to appreciate. A delightful alternative to eating calories with friends is burning calories with them. I’ve enjoyed lots of great talks over long walks and scenic views. Not crowded at all and well kept. Easily one of my Top 3 Favorite parks in Hampton Roads. Gorgeous at any time of year. Do it!
Chinell Jones
Great family beach! Kid and pet friendly. Park is also a camp ground. Calm waters. Good for water sports and fishing. Will visit again.
Claire the 3rd
Very nice state park for beach access that allows dogs. Parking was $7 but was worth it for a less crowded beach. The water was very calm and shallow so good for kiddos
Colleen A
This beach is amazing! 🌞 My husband and I were able to bring our beloved golden retriever with us and this was the perfect spot for the three of us. There are bathrooms, rinse off showers, a campground, clean beaches, and a visitors center! I can’t wait to be back! ❤️ …
F U
I took my wife for her first camping trip. She loved it. The bathrooms and showers we're clean. Everyone that works there are very friendly and helpful. Had a class B Promaster and brought our boat. Used the parks boat launch that was just around the corner. Shallow and full of sand bars so be careful. Each site has a fire ring. You can buy wood from the visitors center or grab it from Food Lion on the way in. The beach area and the campsites we're very clean as well. It was a great first experience for her majesty😆
Chelsey Kraus
Beautiful, well maintained park and trails! Love the beach at 64th street and it’s a gorgeous spot for couples photos too! Here’s some recent photos from an engagement session I photographed with permission from the First Landing team ❤️
Kumari (𖤐)
It's clean quiet and beautiful and very safe. Parking is 10 dollars but sometimes will be free.
Forrest Lloyd
This is one of my favorite state parks inVirginia! Lots of trails, lovely beaches, and a great campground to boot! I also appreciate that it is one of the only beaches we can take our dog to in the summer months. We love how clean the beach is, and that there are restrooms and showers on the way back to the parking lot. In the winter months, we love coming to walk the trails and see the wildlife. It can get a little buggy in the summertime on the trails, so pack some bug spray!
Mary McDaniel
Great place for a hike. The shore side is beautiful and the forest side is quiet with many trails. Bathrooms available as well.
Jeremy Lichliter
This is a great beach spot. It is generally less crowded than the oceanfront. The cost to park here is more affordable than parking at the oceanfront, too. There is a restroom and visitor center here. The beach is very clean. The crowd is very family friendly. You will notice people bringing their dogs to the beach and allowing them to join them in the water. The depth of the water, especially during low tide allows you to go out a good distance and not have the water be over your head. The water tends to be calmer here than it is at the oceanfront.
Joseph
One of the best parks to go to. Lots of trails and good sights. Highly recommended
Heidi Joy
Love this park and the clean beach. Got to kayak in the bay and see the wildlife. Just beautiful!
Tracy Ketch
Beautiful trails, helpful & friendly rangers, clean, and we really enjoyed the Scales & Skins talk.
Trystan Whiting
Got to say, Fell in love as soon as we got to the beach part! She said she never wants to go anywhere else, she said this was the spot! After a long little stretch of woods and trails there’s a little spot that opens up to the beach!
Your sure to love the community! There are a lot of people that take there boats and jet skis out for good family time! Also every one there has chill vibes for sure! This is a great local spot by far!
Will Miller
Nice bay-side beach with better scenery than the oceanfront. Sand dunes, scrub brush and tons of dragonflies at the right time of year. Always shells and fragments washed up, and we've even found shark teeth before. Across the road is the woods section, wonderful hiking paths through a cypress swamp with black water and Spanish moss living in the trees above. Nothing else like this in the area. Well worth the 10 dollar entry fee.
Guru Ram
One end of the park is a beautiful beach, and the other side is a lush green forest. There are about more than 10 trails in the park. Cycling though the trail is a must thing to-do.
Fred Dombski
Went waterside to walk along the beach and look for shells and sea glass chards. A small museum depicting the journey and landing. Good info and apparently a recent structure. Across the street are trails and even cabins. Check online on rentals.
Jacqueline Bush
I love this spot! it has amazing views and a huge trail and camping spots as well as beach access! I miss coming here as a teen and a kid all the time! now I can't wait to take my familly!
Peach Perrychute
This State Park is an awesome place to make memories with your family. Our kids love exploring here and as parents we love how well kept this state park is.
Mike Evans
Love this place so much. So many trails to choose from, all with different terrains.
Jake Nguyen
Been going here for years. Will continue to come for years. A gem in its own right. Keep up the good work guys.
Michael Szubrowski
I was here in August. It was beautiful. Very nice park, there was a lot to do.
Lexy B (Azie)
Been going here since I was a kid, good memories, pretty great place to chill especially at the amphitheatre with siblings or friends. Used to skate there when I was younger. Highly recommend not staying when meteorologists say there will be a hurricane though. Yes, we did that one year.
Sandersons Creations JOATMON
Great place to bring the family and dogs to get out of the house, disconnect from electronics and unwind. Just do your homework on wildlife in the area.
Wendy Mitchem
Great location, large state park with about 200 sites. It's extremely popular and you should book months in advance for a holiday. I booked in August for Memorial Day. A quick 5 minute walk from our camp site to the beach. The beach is dog-friendly and folks did a great job with their pets. It wasn't a five star visit for us as we had to find someone to come and mow our site. While it's a large park, it was also a holiday weekend and seems like that should have been taken care of in advance. Based on the height, it hadn't been mowed in a few weeks. Other than that, no complaints. The camp host near our site was extremely friendly. The bath houses while older, were clean. It's right off of Shore Drive, so an easy drive to a few local restaurants and grocery stores. It's close to a couple of local breweries as well. We look forward to a return trip next year.
Kevin Ray
Great place with decent bathrooms, well-maintained beach and walkway. Love bringing my family here anytime we visit the area. Waves are not too rough and the sand is softer than other beaches in the area.
Jeffrey Rusick
Beautiful RV parking on the beach, live oaks all around, great hiking trails. Great seafood restaurants nearby. Picture is the view out the back of the RV.
Google Email
This is a very relaxing place to spend a few hours or a whole day. For a normal size vehicle the cost is $7. You will have beach access on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. It's very clean and the staff is friendly.
Timothy S
Beautiful beach. I like better than ocean city beach because it's a bit less busy. For as many people that were there. Everyone was able to find their own space to chill and relax. Even at the water, it was like that. That was a big difference that I liked. My fiance and I will be back again in August!
Claire Horstman
I’m visiting from out of state and this was the perfect place! We were able to relax on the beach and take our dogs hiking! The trails are beautiful and well-kept. I wish this park was closer to me and I would go all the time!
Eileen DesAutels Wiltshire
Great place to go for a hike, relax, and enjoy nature. We took a group and pre-arranged for a ranger-led hike.
Jason
My family and I spent the week camping, kayaking, and paddle boarding. We also hiked about 14 miles on the trails. It was a great week. Site 158 is right across the bathrooms and only 1 site away from the boardwalk to the beach. No shade. But, the amenities make up for it.
Kailey Griffin
Awesome campground! My husband and I stayed for 1 night and it cost $40 (electric/water included). All of the campsites were gorgeous and most had ample shade from lovely beachy trees. The camp store had a plethora of souvenirs, food, and camping accessories. The bathrooms and showers were clean. It has great views and access of the bay. The campground is very close to various beach accesses and shopping just a short drive away. I would definitely camp here again.
james wemmitt
Beautiful clean park. Would recommend. Busy on weekends and hot summer days. No waves so perfect for kayaks, sup, and children.
Kevin Olidan
Was invited to camp here by Chruch-mates and we have to admit it was beautiful! Great camping areas which will need to be reserved. Parking was a little tough at times depending on the big surge of people going to the beach didnt have much trouble overall. Beach was clean and beautiful and family friendly. Entrance fee was not bad considering everything you can do here.
Jessika Ficker
Deep sites, very wooded, lots of crabs, fish, sand, private beach, trails, would definitely come back.
Kera Morris
Good hiking trails. I love that you can hike or jog along the water if you like. Not crowded (at least when I go, I don't visit at the height of tourist season) and there are benches set around if you need a break. Can't get lost. Confused maybe, but not lost. Just grab a map at the visitor center 😁 …
Derrick Coady
Great restroom facilities. Friendly staff. Campsites are clean and well placed. I wish they had markers at the intersections to Mark which loops have bathrooms. Was also a little disappointed that our water spicket at the campsite did not work.
Robert Marsh
Beautiful place with amazing history. Maybe you could offer a map customers could take with them to find the historical sights
Koddie Wickline
We have visited here before this year and loved it decided to visit again. Alot have changed it is way bigger than we remember, but staff are very friendly and helpful. Lots of access to the beach area. Very clean beach didn't check out their facilities because we have the RV the only thing I wished they had was sewage at sites, but they do have a dump station. Other than that we are planning our vacation for the whole week there next year.
Emily Shermeyer
I love camping at state parks. The sites have plenty of room between each other and it was great to stay close to the beach. The bathhouses could use a good cleaning more often...but overall a nice park.
Andrew Cartwright
Great beach to spend time with friends and family without the buzz of the ocean front. Bathrooms are normally available if you don't mind a long walk; however, they are under construction at the moment with only terrible condition porta-potties available.
Karen
Awesome campground. Private spots on the beach/sand under the trees. Lots of History. Go during school break - they have lots of learning/fun activities for little and big kids alike.
Jaye Wright
Beautiful location, easy walk to the beach from our tent site. The dogs loved it.
reese peanut butter cups
Cabins were nice and comfortable. There is a small TV that you can bring gaming stations, DVD ect. It doesn't have cable and the site says there is no TV. We were in cabin 18. You can walk to the beach. It took us 15mins
Nicolette Wheeler
Love this park, so many trails. All beautiful! The Osprey were in symphony this morning
Melissa Stoker
Costs about $10 to park, but the beach side is beautiful and well-maintained. The hiking side is also great. From the ranger's understanding the camp store no longer rents our bikes, so bring your own.
Harmony L. G.
What a treat this location is! Definitely go when you can! If I lived there I would be there daily!
Mirza E. Gallardo
Beautiful State park! You can run, walk, hike or bike for miles on Beautiful quiet trails and never get bored.
Barbara Burnett
Beautiful well maintained and marked trails! I love the bald cypress trees! Blue heron, crabs, loads of frogs, turtles, dragonflies and butterflies.
Brittney Austin
Great place amazing shade everywhere. But if your afraid of snakes I would skip this place as they were everywhere
Blvck Roze
Not the best pictures taken because I was too busy enjoying myself but all you pay is $7 for a car and the fun is all yours from the beach to the shore and the camps to the picnics....absolutely loved it my second time around....the staffing is always amazing....and this was a two year span since I been back....it felt like home from home
Brittany Gayle, MSW
I hosted A Family Day here and it was the perfect location. Only one shelter but it fits 80 people for $90.00 which is not bad.
There is a park, a bike trail, a fire pit, a walking path to the beach and plenty of free open space to run and enjoy!
William Bull
Gorgeous place to come and either take a stroll or go for a swim. Dog friendly long as they are on a leash. Nice place to see the dolphins in the afternoon as well.
ivy gonz
Love this place. Very Family oriented. W kids and pet's. And Beautiful sunset 🌇 …
BiG O
Beautiful place, well marked trails and lots of overlooks. Would give five stars if bikes would be allowed on the trails.
Dnshift & Other things!
This place is a great spot for locals. Very clean and safe, the water is warm. We enjoyed swimming in the water and as well as our pooch!
Emily
My boyfriend took our pup here for a hike. Absolutely perfect! Loved the trails and environment. Very pretty!
Scott Simpson
Had a great time. Very clean and the trails are well makes.
Greg MARTIN
Great State Park and public beach. Has showers, bathrooms and camp store. This beach on the Chesapeake Bay is great for small children as it's pretty shallow and the waves don't beat the little ones up.
MIRANDA Atkinson
This place has plenty of trails for each caliber of hiker. It's so peaceful
StarIKore Llc
Nice park with many well-marked trails that are even marked by name in Google maps. There are 2 sides and 2 entrances accordingly. Remember your visitor pass is good on both sides of the park.
Natalie Terrell
Awesome, interesting trails! We particularly enjoyed the Bald Cyprus Trail and all the wildlife we saw. The visitor's center had an informative exhibit as well.
John Driggers
It's the end of local summer and there were about 10 people on the beach. I learned to stand up paddleboard! What a great day! A beautiful park whenever you can visit.
Evan Sheppard
What a great park! Lovely beaches and really nice and interesting trails.
Janet Wey
I hiked 4 miles then spent time on the beach. It is not a large park but it had what I was looking for. And for $7 parking the beach access was great.

I love coming here with my husband. It’s an amazing state park.
ed calle
Having a blast! Even as a local li ing 5 minutes away, it's a tiny little escape for a great weekend with the family. Been living here 41 years, and still find something different every time I come.
Christian Strange
This is Virginia Beach's premier state park for hiking, walking, biking, running, or whatever you want to do. There's also river access and an awesome campground on the beach. If you love being outdoors definitely go here. The park is a fantastic journey through our coastal environment and you will have the chance to find bald cypress, swamps, Spanish moss, coastal vegetation, lots of wildlife, and more. Recommend wearing bug spray in warmer months.
Lexie West
Wonderful state park! I went to Virginia Beach for a long weekend and the park had many trails and was super dog-friendly.
Jessi Crowder
Loved the bald Cypress trail! Perfect for kids with a few different nice spots to look out and plenty of benches if you need a break
Tanya Garvin
It's a clean place for camping. Not bad on price it's beautiful. If u need a night out to unwind an u want the out doors this is the place. They also have cabins
Kitch Pilapil
another great alternative spot for beach goers in Virginia. also great place for camping and crabbing adventure. not so crowded. clean restrooms and shower area.
Sir Silverback
Right off shore dr before you hit the main beach way going to Virginia Beach strip. It's 24/7 which is awesome. Not to many paths to veer off but some how you still get lost in this beautiful nature adventure. We ran but watch for roots!!

We drove 5 h to go to First Landing State Park and on the way, I was not sure it would be worth it. However, it was a wonderful place. We were at a tent only site, with no water or power. I would suggest booking early, so you can get a site away from the highway. Even with that, the site was really very pretty, well-maintained, relaxing and the size was large so we were not close to other campers. It was a 10 min walk to the beach and not too crowded even on the weekend. Because it is a bay, it is ideal for young children. The have a little research lab that is open on Sundays where the kids can learn about the local habitat, fish and critters. On our visit, the park ranger was very helpful and knowledgeable about the displays in the lab. There is a Food Lion supermarket very close (0.5 mi), with a good selection of food, camping snacks and other camping necessities (wood, supplies, charcoal...). The sunsets were amazing and, after dark, the beach is filled with little crabs that the kids can chase around with flashlights. Overall, we are likely to go back, and I would be happy to spend a week at First Landing State Park. The only thing that bothered me was people not cleaning up after themselves at the beach. But that is no fault of the park. So if you go, please pick up your refuse (and maybe even something left carelessly by somebody else).
Mark Dabaldo
Clean bathrooms, friendly staff, well maintained. Pet friendly beach, great camp sites and miles of hiking/biking trails. Also good for birding and wildlife photography.
Rebecca Worsham
Love going to the bay here. Convenient to beach when parked. Bathrooms, snacks and ramps to help get those beach items to and from the water. Feels like a lake so dont forget your floats and kayaks
Katy Pennington
We have hiked the trails here. We always notice something we didn't before and learn new things. The rangers are friendly and willing to answer questions.
Chris Lumsden
Great place for day hikes and just getting out into nature. Extremely secluded for being surrounded by residential neighborhoods.
Giavanna Indellicati
Beautiful trails with cool wildlife! Unfortunately couldnt walk the whole trail due to rain but we enjoyed it!
Krystal S
So close to the VA Beach boardwalk, but it feels like it's a world away. Gentle waves. Cute ghost crabs. Awesome if you want to go to the beach without getting stuck in stores half the day. Also Awesome camping experience. They have educational back packs that you can borrow to learn more about nature, native Americans, crabbing, fishing, etc.
Jason M (The Happy Campers)
We enjoyed our time at this campground. From our campsite, we could hear and see the ocean. This campground has narrow roads, which are not big rig friendly. Use caution. Campground within 1 mile of gas stations, restaurants, freeway and grocery stores. Verizon phones were able to maintain a 4g signal. DirecTV (free standing satellite) had no issue. We utilized this campground to visit Virginia Beach, which was within a 30min drive and Nauticus/Wisconsin Battleship museum. We also took the Chesapeake Bridge, which has a small restaurant midway. We (including our furry friends) did not enjoy the pot stickers covering the grounds throughout the park. Our dogs were constantly crying for help, and walking barefoot isn’t an option. Please use caution before stepping into your RV, as these pot stickers can find their way inside, and they do hurt on bare feet.
Our family is currently traveling this beautiful country via RV style, and have been RV'ing for many years. We utilize Google to assist us on locating top attractions, tasty restaurants and exciting locations within our wonderful country. Follow our adventure via Facebook/Instagram; “Happy Campers 227”.

The beach itself is nice but the outhouse at this park is not great. I've been camping at two other camp sites in my life and they both had pristine bathrooms. The bathrooms here were very dirty.
Chris Brower
Went kayaking and had a great time. Saw a pod of dauphins (they came very close to our kayaks) and two bald eagles, an egret, and a few cormorants. It was a 2 hr guided excursion and was an awesome time.
Herbert Dinken
Well maintained campground in walking distance from a beautiful beach. Pay close attention to which site you reserve, our site was literally 20 feet from a busy four lane highway. Not what I would call relaxing.
Jessica Rummer
Beautiful park with very well marked and maintained trail systems! We hiked approximately 11 miles.
anday Vanderpol
So much to do and see here, it never gets old
Bring your kids, dogs, bike or just take a hike
Clean up after your dogs though because you are surrounded by important water systems and it's very frustrating to see dog bags and piles left on the trails
R achel877
Beautiful & clean area. You can rent cabins in the summer, but you have to book early because they fill up fast.
You pay for parking ($7 on weekdays, I think $10 on weekends) but can come & go all day until sunset. The day pass includes the beach or all the trails on the other side. You can ask for a map when you pay. There is also a season pass for $75. I don't believe the National Park Pass is accepted here.
William Turk
Nice little section of beach that will take you away from the tourist side of Virginia Beach. Very family oriented. You can find people fishing, kitesurfing windsurfing and building sand castles. There is a fee to park in the state park.
Aaron Mayzing
It is a bit treacherous switching from one path to the next as they cross the main road to enter the park, but the paths were well maintained and beautiful.
Megan Gusler
It's always fun and exciting to see what new things you explore and see here.
Ravac cvsndms v.shell tkt.sldRader
We brought the grandkids here to see the ocean for the first time and stayed in one of the cabins. It was great. Access to beach and very friendly people. I would definitely recommend staying here.
James Krudop
First Landing's quality has definitely decreased since I last stayed there in 2016. I've been going there since I was a little kid, and I've loved every time I've had a chance to camp there. My fiancée and I cut our recent stay short because it was difficult to sit and just relax. Every 45 seconds a car passes by, or people are out walking/talking past quiet hours. There was, what sounded like, a party going on either inside or nearby the park, heavy bass booming across the sky does not a relaxing night by the fire make. I love(d) First Landing, and being able to visit whenever I wanted was so nice. But this last stay definitely soured it for me. Also, not to mention the huge price increase to reserve a NONSPECIFIC site? Not 3 years ago I was paying $20/night, and now (after fees) it's almost double that? An increase in price, but decrease in quality really isn't a good business model. I want to see First Landing do well, I love(d) that place, I have so, so many good memories from there. I get that things change, and that Hampton Roads is growing, but the path FL is taking really sucks.
To end on a positive note: we did have a lovely little fire.
David Williams
Well maintained nice clean facilities spacious campsites
Ben Tennier
Beautiful oasis in the middle of Virginia Beach. There’s a little bit of everything in this park, from dense forest, to swamps, to beaches. The trails are very well kept. They are relatively easy trails as well with no steep inclines or declines. Even in the winter months this is a beautiful place to explore and get away from the city. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time, and know what trail you want to take, as we ended up on loop and didn’t make it out until after dark.
Harold Kornylak, DO
Great place to walk or bicycle. Open bay beaches, small fresh water lake, salt marsh, boat ramp, lots of interesting wildlife
Tami Gray
Absolutely Stunning! I drove thru this park and it is so beautiful. I had a great time. Its also where I went kayaking.
Tyler Gaarz
Probably one of my favorite places in the Hampton Roads area. I bring my bike here to ride down the cape Henry trail and it is so calm and relaxing.
John Carver
Great place hike and camp within Virginia Beach city limits. Well kept facilities and trails with plenty of wildlife and foliage to experience.
Jacqueline Gaefke
Love this beach! It is never too crowded and parking is cheap and always available. The beach is clean and the waves are not too rough. The facilities are also clean although I am not sure what the covid restrictions are. Perfect beach day spot to take the kiddos.
Tammy Treichel
Great trails. If you want to avoid people, I would plan to be finished by 10:30am.
Nicole Burke
Beautiful views and honesty just a peaceful place to enjoy nature at it's finest.
Katie Nobles
A beautiful location to take a long walk. It would’ve been a 5 star review however, some of the bridges that need to be crossed over water are dilapidated.
Leslie Corpuz
I love First Landing..which we call Seashore. I took my kids here for so much home school science. It has really changed in the last ten years. Now they've opened up the beach. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but we go kayaking there now and I love it. It's a great place for kayaking, hiking, and now swimming.
Mariia Butolina
Beautiful and peaceful place. Just perfect at fall, because not so hot and mosquitoes not really bother you
Marie Nolte
One of the best state parks we've been to. Site 205 was spacious for our 37' TT. We were right next to the boardwalk and visitor center, and just a minute walk to the parking lot, which was perfect since we had a small birthday party during our visit. The nature trails are amazing and expansive!
Jarrett Rodriguez
It’s a really nice place out there. The trails are safe and LGBTQ+ friendly!
Tya Cullison
We loved the trails and beach here. The bathrooms were nice and clean. But we were unaware that our campsite was so close to a major highway. Maybe add that information to the website? We are from Indiana and have never been to Virginia. So that was a major struggle with small children and camping. There wasn't any other open campsite. If we would have known, we'd have found a different site. But we drove around and their other sites were great looking. Just not peaceful at all.
Areeje Ayyash
We come here every year, beach isn't super crowded and we can bring our dog. It's a great place to go.
Claudia Bellante
It was so hot today, I took my dog to the state park. I'd never been there. What a wonderful experience. Shaded trails and a beautiful setting that allowed us to enjoy the outdoors even in the heat. We'll make this a regular treat.
that girl
Love taking my dog for walks along the trails! Not happy abt the raise in parking fees. It's a bit much especially considering some the bridges along the trail need fixing. And the simple fact that I'm paying to go walk.
Mike Bostain
Fantastic place! We had a great overnight camping trip on the bay side. The kids loved the proximity to the beach, the amenities - water & electricity hookups, the nearby bathhouse - the evening camp fire, etc. First trip and we will be back. Oh. The bird watching activity led by the park ranger in the morning was great too. Easy to check in and check out.
Spix Weltschmerz - Puckett
Great place to bike! Lots of fun on the trails. There are a lot of sand dunes so make sure you have proper tires. The view is great, the trails are challenging but not to hard to handle. Lots of people but not crowded. A must in VA beach!
Sami Walker
Beautiful park, love the site we selected.. a 6short walk to the beach. Computers were down at the onsite office. Called the toll free number, lady was so patient and nice as we selected the site. Out of state residents so we had to pay 6 dollars more than in state residence. 6% tax, 5 dollars surcharge (who knows what the surcharge is for.. just because they can I guess).
Mary Vivenzo
Love! Love! Love, this bridge & beach! With bathrooms, camping facilities & an awesome view of the ocean! Beautiful! And handicapped accessible!
Daniel Lindgren
Took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to take a hike on the 1.5 mile long Bald Cypress trail. I'm amazed at how gorgeous the swamp is! For only $5 per car for VA residents, the park is beautifully kept. There are several raised boardwalk paths that take you straight through the swamp for some stunning views. I recommend going on a sunny day, since the natural chemicals within the water that make it so dark also make it shine with a beautiful rainbow gradient (almost like an oil spill but more spread out and naturally occurring). This, combined with the Spanish moss hanging everywhere, creates an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere that is enchanting to see in person. I can't wait to go back and see what the other trails have to offer!
J.Y. W.
Wonderful trails and shoreline with spectacular scenery! Excellent park educators for kids! Will try the bike trail next!
tracy akers
Love it there. Great place to camp. Family and pet friendly, clean restrooms and campground! It's our favorite place to camp!
Becca McClure
I thrilled with so many activities. Our swamp stomp was very informative but is geared to younger children. Ranger Allie (I think that was her name. She looks like Violet from the Incredibles) was very good to the guest and controlled the children well. She has loads of information and a real passion for wildlife.
Rich Thuemmler
Nice hiking trails and beaches. Worth the trip.
Erin Partlan
Beautiful park. Biked the camp Henry trail to bisect Virginia beach and first landing beach. Well maintained.
Chris Humphrey
Favorite state park to camp in. Getting harder to rent campsites. Wish they would not allow tent camping on rv sites. There are only so many rv spots to begin with. Rvs cannot fit into tent sites but yet the park allows tents on rv spots. Not fair.
Tyler Illis
Amazing beach camping right at the mouth of the bay. Great facilities, many showers, sinks, and bathrooms and lots of people willing to help with anything you need.
Nan
My FAVORITE OF ALL !!! I LOVE First Landing State Park. I grew up coming here, then named Seashore State Park. It has remained remarkably similar to how it was 50 years ago! Clean, lots of natural beauty and so many friendly campers and staff. We love it!
Stacy “E” ddy
Nature is always beautiful, trails marked very clearly, can't wait to go back!
Rebecca Oden
New favorite spot! The beach area was great and easy to get to. Trails are so so beautiful! Very nice and well worth the small fee to park!
Kenneth Fish
Rented a cabin for the week. Very close to beach, about 5 min by car. A little out dated and run down appliances but great place over all. Had lots of things to do for every one and close to everything. Well do again next year.
John Bakir
Great place for a hike or a swim or even to kayak and birdwatch. A lot to do! Me and my wife headed there to kayak however, the water was very windy and couldn’t unfortunately so we instead decided to hike one of their hiking trails. There are so many trails to choose from. I hiked the Osmanthus trail under an hour. It was a big loop around the park which was under 3 miles. There were signs everywhere that was helpful and benches along the way if you needed to rest. The hike was beautiful with all the cypress trees. Also, the bonus was their beach. Apparently it is one of the best beaches in Virginia Beach. I could definitely agree. Although a little windy the beach was very clean and warm enough to swim. Very crowded as it is very popular. Overall, a great place to see while vacationing in Virginia Beach!

Comforting place to be
Revelry and the National Anthem every morning 🌄 Hurricane aftermath super tide. Great for hiking a d biking. …
Ruth Hoosier
Clam waters, narrow beach allowing a short stroll to the surf...picnicing is fun...good for elderly, those with limited mobility and small children.
Phillip Ragan
Fun place to take a hike or run depending what you are looking for! The trails are well mapped and worth checking out.
Terry Lindner
Awesome hiking!
Jess Bakas Wallace
Quiet, peaceful, serene lil' local beach with no waves to scare your kid while she makes sand castles. Keep an eye out for this year's impressive sea nettle jellyfish bloom.
Michael N
Great place for a hike. Two different entrances allow you to explore different trails. Or you could spend an entire day hiking them all!
If you start at the Shore Drive entrance and park at the Ranger station you can take Cape Henry Trail to the very end (it continues past the 64th St lot) then walk back on the road till you get to Long Creek Trail then to Osprey to Fox Run and hike just over 10 miles.
Kat Parker
Went for something to do on a little chilly Sunday afternoon. Did not disappoint. Had a good time with our granddaughter!
Hector José Medina Gómez
Great nature walks and hikes for all ages and levels.
Interesting activities organized by the knowledgeable Park Rangers.
Lots to offer. We spent one day and barely scratched the variety of activities possible.
Courtney O'Neill
Love visiting the Narrows or Sand Dune by boat! Great place to hike along the river and Broad Bay! Must visit multiple times to enjoy all the beauty this park has to offer!
Jesse Herman
Great park. Just found a pair of brown sunglasses on a wooden bench by the lake. Sunday, 9/27 @5:39 pm. If you lost them, this is where you left them!
Nicole Lloyd
I always love going to First Landing. All of the trails are relatively easy, but it has some great scenery and the dogs I watch always enjoy the long walks!! The beach is also great in the summer because it is less busy than the boardwalk/oceanfront. I go enough to make the yearly pass worth it!
Hvn Snt Housekeeping
Beautiful place for Sunset
P.S.A the bugs are horrible but if you can get past that definitely a great way to end your day
KJ Linger
Lovely trail. Lots of nice things to look at.
Kyle Clayton
Large campground, lot of beachfront and trails, but the sites could definitely be better. Not very level or well maintained. Nice amenities at the front office.
Nathaniel Legg
First landing is such a beautiful park! There are wonderful trails and access to the bay, as well as camping and the opportunity to stay in a yurt!
Claire M
Great place for beach day, hiking, chilling. Get the season pass and always have a parking space and bathroom close to all the fun this place has to offer.
Emilie Stump
Great running trails...also the only forested running trails that I know of in Virginia Beach? This park is one of the only reasons I can stand being in this region for more than 2 days.
GERALD ALTIZER
Great place to camp all of the people that work here are very friendly, sometimes they mess up your reservations but we’ve been coming here for years and really enjoy it they have a lot of activities for everybody
Ricky Allen
My wife and I have been coming here for 18 years! We even got married on the first landing beach.
We love the place, one of our favorites places in the usa, but it seems the last few times the park has been neglected.
Super dirty and outdated showers. The septic tanks I could smell from 50 feet away. Our campsite had trash in it when we arrived! The store selection is hit and miss, but the prices are fair.
Julia Cognion
I love it because we just moved here and we do not know anyone to leave our fur baby with, so it is absolutely wonderful that we can bring her with us.
Sayan Sengupta
Beautiful beach. Less crowded than Virginia Beach. Showers, restrooms, gift shop and coffee shop is available near the beach access area. Even have laundry on site. Parking is 10$ for day use. Campgrounds are available and camp sites also have direct beach access.
Ricky Donaldson
Beautiful beach, not to crowd perfect place to take your family or just go relax.
Leah Edwards
My family loves to hike the trails here. Different elevations and different scenery.
Charlene Fransen
Military base next door. Woke at 8am each day to the national anthem. So cool! On Friday we woke to a medley of armed services songs and the national anthem. My favorite part of staying here. Also walking distance to the beach. Showers were separate stalls on the outside of the bathhouse. They were hot and very nice though all were slightly different. Would definitely stay here again.
Lee Palmer
What a hidden beauty amongst our beautiful city. A must-see hidden gem
Scott Kramer
Beautiful Park. Some things that were a downer were..... We went to the closest entrance from Virginia Beach and there were a bunch of signs about you must pay for parking or get a ticket. I had no problem paying the $7 but there were no envelopes to pay the money. It was off season so we thought well maybe you don't have to pay off season and that's why there were no envelopes? There was no sign there to call anybody with a phone number to ask to replenish the envelopes, or to say that they charge you around. So we hiked around the whole time thinking I'm probably going to get a ticket which sucked? Later I found out that the ticket was only 20 bucks( according to another hiker)? We called the main office after we were hiking and they said you need to have a paid receipt on your dashboard. So we went back and we drove 5 miles to the visitor center. And paid our $7. I was kind of hungry by then and I saw that there was a sign that they had a restaurant. I understand it's pandemic so maybe that's why the restaurant was closed. I thought maybe they could at least have some vending machines or something like that. I didn't see any. They could probably have any number of vending companies coming put some machines in and probably pay the park? It would be a convenience for all the patrons.
Carleigh Weaver
bath houses are some of the cleanest I've seen, most campsites (tent) are spaced far enough apart, and love the access to trails and the beach!
David Nichols
There was a beach with sand and water. It was equal parts wet and sandy. We never say any historical markers or anything along those lines.
Barb Cathcart
Bathrooms under renovation in 1 area and filthy with trash all over. Noisy camping if your on the fence e side...zooming traffic. Map on website is backwards so site selected was no near beach side.
REDBONE BOB
Love First Landings Park...been coming here from West Virginia when it was called Sea Shore State park...Now living here in Norfolk Virginia we had to buy season pass..My only Negative is, Quite a bit of Garbage on walk areas and Few to no garbage cans OR RECYCLING BINS...This beautiful area can quickly become unsightly...Love to drive my classic Chevy Roxy to First Landings knowing She is Safe while we enjoy the Beach...
Walter P.
Nice park... We found many animals in around the park, but sorprise me the big coyote at 11:00 am. Ask if itis dangerous. Park police said has never attack any kid yet.
The Jacksons
Lovely park with great beach area. Ample space, kept well, and nice the furry family members can hang out, too. The Welcome Center was well staffed and information readily available.
K W
Such a peaceful place to explore and you don't have to travel to the mountains to get it.
N K R
First Landing State Park is a beautiful park and one of my favorite parks in the Virginia Beach area.
Tracy Mckone
Wonderful staff, clean park, reasonable prices. They sell out often for a reason.
Suchandra Ghose
Wonderful walking trails, what a good nature workout during vacation
ANTIGR4VTY
Well I am giving it a 3 star because, while it is a good park, lots to do, beach camping, trails, playground, and the other typical state park stuff.
The issue I find is that the trail designated for "biking" is a double track, flat, boring, filled with pets and kids and people trail. Completely backwards thought process by the park planners to give hikers a lot of gnarly trails for such a flat area, and give the mountain bikers some POS flat trail that most hikers are using and not the challenging ones.
I hear the are finally pulling their head out of the sand and redesignating the trails as MTB trails, which will bring bikers there instead of IRP, Freedom or all the other great places that First Landing is just failing to be better than.
Haley Ruiz
Beautiful wooded trails with gentle, pine covered path. It rained when I went and there were a few magical moments/views along the way! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there were a few "boring" moments where it felt like the trail just went on and on with the same views of trees. Maybe some more informational signs throughout would be ideal!
Rose H. W
Beautiful views. Hiking trails. Friendly visitors. ..felt safe.picnic on the beach in October. .awesome.
JoAnn Cornelison
This park has restrooms and showers to rinse off sand. They also have camping and a nice little store.
duckmasterflex88
Great place to take the kids or just go out and see some awesome wild life. We got a kayak tour with go kayak. Great guys had a chance to see dolphins blad eagles and much more. Well be coming back again for sure
Donnie Gilmore
Love the Cape Henry trail for biking! Make sure to have some nice off-road tires for a better ride.
Gayle Hughes
What a great place to talk your dog for a walk. Enjoyed the beauty of the park.
David Lucas
Enjoyed the park and especially Adventure WaterSports !!! We did Kayaking and JetSkies and had a blast! The staff was friendly and helpful and explained everything clearly. Next time I am here on vacation we plan to go again! Highly recommend going early morning before the traffic and heat of the day!
Eric W.
A really nice place to walk in the woods or the beach, to camp, sunbathe, and more. Well kept trails and plenty of parking.
David S.
Friendly staff. Park is quiet and had a lot of Rangers to keep things running smoothly and to ask questions if you need help. It wasn't easy to get a teardrop in the "tent only" campsite and i did ask if I could use a small 8x5 RV ahead of time. I gave 4 stars because the Firewood was wet and caused it to produce a lot of smoke. We all smelled like a forest fire for the rest of the night. At 8 bucks a bundle, that's a pretty hard thing for me to overlook.
Krys M Gatmaitan
We love going to the Narrows at First Landing, it's off the beaten path but it's so worth it for the scenic views and picturesque sunsets. Simply follow 64th street all the way, it feels like you're driving into a different world when passing through the neighborhood and into the heavily wooded path. There's a boat ramp at the very end and plenty of sandy beach area, not to mention lots of hiking trails. During the busier summer months there may be a fee to enter but it's definitely worth the visit.
Renee Hare
We had the most private and hobbit like site. A little tricky getting our Teardrop Tab in it. I believe the site was #140. Close enough walk to beach and bathhouse if you need it. Totally enjoyed the revelry provided by nearby military base training and if you have little kids they’ll love the helicopter training action.
Morgan Chase
A beautiful refuge nestled just off the main resort thoroughfare.
Beautiful hiking and cycling trails lead to printing waterfront and beaches.
Just be mindful of bikers and pets when driving.
Eric Murray
This is a beautiful walk if you're ever in the area of Virginia beach. My wife and I always look for new places to walk our silver lab, Brutus, he loves the new smells and actually gets excited wanting to go way ahead of us. Lol!
Matthew Murdock
Been coming here since I could walk with my family. Favorite place is to park at Shore Dr and then walk fox run down to the beach. Little more than half a mile to a small private beach. Think narrows, but tiny. Someone has even installed a rope swing!
Darla Fong
Love this place! Excellent hiking!
Al C.
Great views and really helpful ranges. Plenty of fun for trails and visiting the beach.
Che Paris
Gorgeous and unique coastal live oak landscape and ecosystem. Found a beautiful red honeysuckle as well.
Praba NWSDB
Well maintained state park..
Beautiful shallow beach..
Good clean bathrooms.
You can see dolphins in the afternoons..
Nicole Hendrix
This one of our favorite state parks in Virginia! With large camping spots and beautiful beaches, First Landing is a wonderful getaway!
pete sinnott
We were here over 40 years ago with our children. This time we have our grand children. Still a wonderful place with many new additions! This includes a new name.
Joseph Bain
Parking is $10 on weekends and $7 on weekdays. Cheaper than oceanfront and less packed. Safe for the kids. Like Chics Beach, little to no waves which meansno crying kids as their getting tumbled even though it is an enjoyment watching after they had been acting out throughout the weeks 🤣😂 …
Deven Wandel
I was checked into an RV site, even though I was tent camping for power and water hook-up. The site was very spacious and clean. The fire ring was great and even has an installed grill grate that can be flipped out of the way. There are a lot of different sized RV spaces, so check ahead to see if there is a spot available for your rig. The only downside was being right next to a major road, which took a little bit to get used to when settling in for the night.
Crimmie (crim_girl)
We got married here! We highly recommend the park for your wedding or just to enjoy the beach.
Susan Egley
This is a terrific park! Lots of walking trails and beautiful scenery!
Jack In RVA
Great place to camp and/or hang out at the beach or take a nature hike. Staff is friendly & the native wildflowers are gorgeous.
Peter Cortapasso
These are the sunsets at the beach looking over the Chesapeake Bay at First Landing State Park. What other reason is needed?
Andrea Nolley
We had a wonderful visit- bike trails, hiking trails, sunsets on the bay, and great food nearby when we did not want to fire up the grill. We hope to return.
Jay Balog
My wife and I have yearly VA state parks pass do we visit at least once a week either the beach side or trail side. I love the spacious long and wide sandy beach if just to sit. The view of the bay is really, really nice. Very family orientated or just to go and walk alone after dinner, year round. Parking is close to beach access and ranger welcome center both on beach and trail side. The trails vary in length and scenery. Trails are safe to walk anytime of day the park is open!!
Susan McCarty
I love the cypress trees. Totally fascinating. When you go be prepared to pay 7 or 8 dollars to park. Other than the Cypress Trees, it's a nature trail.
Doris Garcia
The best place to camping with kids and baby's 4 paws
Philip Scranage
This place rocks. Some of the campsites are a little too close to the highway and the prices are high but the beach is beautiful, the trails are interesting, and I can't wait to visit again.
Tara Dower
I’m a trail runner and just moved to VB. I was so thankful to have found First Landing. What a beautiful park with well maintained trails😊 …
Susan Sease
Great walking/hiking/running park with well marked paths as well as a beautiful Chesapeake Bay front setting!
OldBike Guy
As many times as I have enjoyed the park I have NEVER met any unfriendly or incompetent staff...Great People Work Here!
Mohammad Mohammad
Great private like beach. Pitch your tent by the shore and swim all day.
The only cost is $7.00 for parking (It allows you to exit and re-enter all day)
Pleasant and helpful staff all over the park. You could walk as much as 100 feet inside the water before it hits your waist.
The only drew back is the fact that there is no life guard.
Katie Isaacson
We pulled in late and left early, and then found out where we were! Such a cool place to accidentally stumble upon. I can say the showers and rv hook ups were just what we needed. And the price was hard to beat. And the service was great.
leidy gamboa
My family and I love coming here. It's an awesome walk. We always bring our 3 and 4 year old along with our dog for the 3 mile trail and they love it. It's very clean and we have never had an issue with parking. Expect to see lots of people along your walk. Bring bug spray 🙃 …

Beautiful, quiet beach that allows dogs off leash in the morning and evening. Awesome place to spend some time.

Great park, kindoff secluded beach, it has entrance feee though.

Excellent camping experience at site 189 with a pop up! Close walk to bathhouse and beach access. Showers on walk way back from beach was a bonus as well. Doggie had an enjoyable time too!

Great place, clean, but boating traffic is a little aggressive which is typical unfortunately
Thomas Molina
Very nice park with ample trails and accommodations.

Such a beautiful place. Within walking distance for the bay beach. Lots of shade and nature with fairly large lots.
Very few bathrooms, though, so bring a flashlight or a portable toilet.
Unfortunately it is riddled with bad employees. The concierge that we met was very rude... wasn't wearing a mask until we walked up, then all the sudden she was trying to put it on. Why? Because we have a toddler? How about how she had an attitude about the store not being open, and told us we needed to go to Food Lyon for a fre starter! That's like 2 miles away!! And of course we walked from our campsite to the visitor center. She was rude to the man in front of us,too, and he just seemed confused after the interaction. To top that off, also nearly grabbed my son when he was spinning the brochure rack. I'm standing right here...you can ask me to stop him.
But don't ever touch my child.
The park ranger didn't give me many instructions when I arrived. I had a pro-conservative shirt on and when she read it, I think she developed a bias against me. She started acting very frazzled and tried rushing me. I had to carry this huge thing of firewood by myself... I guess they don't have golf carts here. So unprofessional. I've never had to do that and we have stayed in campsites for 5 months so I know protocols at these places. They will say they are short staffed but 3 people will be working the desk, as well as multiple hosts on site. Everything here is a "no" if you ask them for anything. The store is never opened. I guess on weekeneds when it costs as much as a motel to stay here you get more privileges. Just more bias.
All the other campgrounds we have stayed at had camp hosts in the store from 8 to 6. And they were all polite. I guess it's just Virginia or something.
We did meet one nice camp host couple at site 173. They have us fire starters and wood. They were very polite to hear us out.
It's a beautiful place, just bring what you need.

Came to the beach with some friends and we're going to drive right by. Relaxing and peaceful Sunday Morning. Beach was clean and the Ranger was very friendly. Planning the next trip as we sit here!
Stefan Hartman
Just a local Beatiful spot off the main beach. Easy access.

Huge and beautiful. So many trails, swamps, and beaches. This is my favorite place to run

What a wonderful surprise. This park is huge and there is beauty everywhere.
zalene brant
After going here twice I know that I will be returning again because I have still not been able to see everything that this park has to offer! It does not matter if your a Sunday walker, adventurous hiker, wildlife enthusiast or just like state parks, this is a wonderful place to visit.
Randall
Nice beach, insanely well kept campgrounds with highly responsive staff.. and a lot of mosquitoes so do bring your DEET
Kristin
As a pass holder for VA State Parks, I visit them often. This is a gem with well marked/comfortable trails, cypress trees galore, nature’s music, as well as a nice beach and campground.
Greg Helman
Park Rangers made it a great experience! Very welcoming and friendly. Small trail (bald cypress) was fine for my 4 and 6 year olds.
Sahadev Poudel
I love this beach. Its very quite, clean and beautiful. But be careful there’s no lifeguard.
Susan Marsee
Was a great night camping by the water will defenitly go back
Johnny Rocket
The most beautiful place we have ever camped!
Jake
It is a beautiful park, imo the best one in the city. As flat as VB is, there are some decently hilly trails (at least according to VB standards) I've been on all the trails many times, and I'd recommend Osmanthus, High Dune, and Long Creek. Although all the other trails are superb. Just make sure to bring some water and pack a snack!
Ashley Planalp
There is so much to do here and the beach is clean the day pass gives you access to both sides of the park it's worth the fee. This is a whole day kinda park.
Teshara Dabney
This is one of our favorite state parks. Love camping on the beach and the option to rent a cabin. Great hiking nice and quiet beach with waves that aren’t overpowering for little kids. Can’t wait till it warms up so we can go! The ONLY complaint I have is that the bathrooms are quite gross compared to other state parks we have been to.
John Shidel
Well maintained. Large sites. Very nice up to date Visitors Center. Open late hours. Very close to beach. Advance booking is recommended - even just pre-season pretty full. Only minor comment - no recycling program.
Michael Ethier
Nice walking trails through the woods with beach views along the way.
Beth Guyton
Had a lovely afternoon visit. Very helpful park staff and a great place to bring a laptop and work till the battery dies, then take a walk

Absolutely loved our stay at First Landing State Park. We stayed on Lot #3; a fantastic site literally steps from the beach. I must admit, my wife & I live in Virginia Beach ( I've lived here pretty much all of my life) & while we've taken advantage of the great walking trails on the other side of Shore Drive, it's been years since I've been to tthe beach side & my wife had never been. We recently purchased an RV & are just taking a few quick trips close to home to kind of get the hang of it. First Landing may be right in our own backyard but we will definitely be back! Beautiful well taken care of site, easy walking distance to the beach, friendly staff & guests, minutes away from some great places to eat & a short drive to the oceanfront. Our only complaint is that our visit was way too short!
Victor Zirkle
First Landing is a more than decent park. It is not something you will find out west like the beautiful parks in Colorado, Oregon, or Washington; however, it can be fun. There is a beautiful trail which hugs the Lynnhaven River/Chesapeake Bay; it's called Long Creek Trail. Furthermore, the east side of the park has an entrance at 64th? street which leads to a beautiful beach during the summer. You can bring paddle boards and safely explore. Be aware it does get crowded, and you will probably have to pay a little park fee, but that's not a big deal. There are approximately 8/9 trails with a secret trail off of Cape Henry. Have fun exploring!

Wonderful state park with wide trails for walking, hiking, jogging. Family friendly and beautiful scenery. Bald cypress trees always amaze me.
Jana Ozment
Beautiful park! The camp sites are super clean and most are extremely spacious. Camp staff are very helpful and friendly.
Trails across the street are diverse and beautiful.

Best beach in VA Beach! Excellent for a relaxing day
Bikerbill Harley
This is our to go to place for camping although it's a bit tight for big rigs, the site are a little on the narrow side but the space between each campsite makes up for it if you live close it would be wise to ckeck out the number site your interested in we've found it says 50' but sometimes you have to park the truck at an angle on the edge of the road but our 39' will go in..and it also a hop skip and a jump to the beach so be ready to eat some sand..
John Myatt
Nice trails, very clean restroom at the visitors center. Nice people. $7 for all day parking. Met a very nice family on the trail... grandfather, daughter and granddaughter. We got our routine morning exercise in and enjoyed it.
Would you look at that
Very nice trails and beautiful beach. I just wish there were more trash cans on the trails for dog waste
Ces Aguilar
It’s a beautiful place. Not many people around and the water was very calm when we came. We definitely are coming back here.
Stephanie Reuss
Expect to pay for parking/entry from 7 to 10 dollars. Don't forget bug repellent
Beautiful park..a localfavorite.

This is a new destination and the view of the ocean is wonderful ... God created a wonderful world for humans ...
Leonard Cressman
Best around for camping, hiking, and exploring.

Great park for any outdoor enthusiasts. There are biking trails, walking trails, a beach on the Bay with a boat ramp. The walking trails are nice to walk your dog, jog, take in the wildlife, take pictures.
Susan Doss
It was beautiful and well kept.
