Reviews of Myakka River State Park
Hollie Miller
This place was amazing. There were plenty of signs that noted where wildlife was but in general it was hard to figure out what road lead to what, and trying to figure out where any trails were was confusing. Aside from that this place is quiet, beautiful, and an amazing place to spend a day or two in. BE CAREFUL when you go though the wildlife is amazing but even the rangers when you come in warn you about the alligators and I can see why they are EVERYWHERE here. We also saw a raccoon, birds, turtles, squirrels. This place is really beautiful and a lot of fun to visit

This is a park for nature lovers and people who might need a break from city and busy life. The nature is spectacular. When you arrive at the park there is a small fee to enter. It’s best to ask before you enter what are the key points of interest. Each season may offer something different. At the time when I was in the park, there were canopy fields in full bloom, which was so pretty. You can drive around the park and make stops if you wish to walk different trails. There is an observation tower with suspension bridge for those who are not afraid of height. They also offer a boat tour around the lake for an additional fee. There is a small snack bar at the site and restrooms in some areas of the park. The park is definitely worth seeing.

Check it out - 💯 worth it! I recommend visiting during the morning before it's too hot and before it gets busy. It's low cost (just $6 per vehicle), plenty of shade, easy to stop and explore, well-maintained. Being from the PNW, I was in awe of all the natural beauty and wildlife. There are lots of opportunities to view alligators, birds, deer, etc. I loved the chance to go up into the trees and look out at the park. We did not take any of the tours or rent recreational equipment, but I imagine it would just enhance your visit. Step away from the beach and enjoy this beautiful sanctuary! The pictures don't do it justice!

If you want to see wildlife this is the place to go! It is a huge huge park. If you want to see gators you won't be disappointed! We saw deer,, wild boar,, wild turkeys...Good hiking and biking. The little visitor center has a museum in there and you can see so many taxidermy animals that live here and learn alot about them. Very good park!

First time at Myakka River State Park. What a wonderful place to explore! Entrance fee was just $6 per car! Stopped at the Visitor's Center and got lots of great info. We chose to go to the ticket booth first and bought our tickets for the boat and tram tours. You get a great discount if you buy both, it's very affordable. Returned back to the Canopy Trailhead. What a great feature and a must do when in the park! No elevator so make sure you're ready for some stairs. You go up the stairs and walk over the suspension bridge as it gently moves beneath you. There's an observation tower at the end, views are incredible! We did it twice since the first time it was crowded. Then, finish the loop through the jungle, just beautiful! After this hike we made a quick stop at the only food truck in the park before embarking our boat tour. It was very relaxing after the hike and great narration, there were some gators floating around and lots of birds! Some people were a little close! Did the tram tour after. Warning as it was a little shaky and you could walk those trails by yourself but a fun thing to do if you have kiddos or limited mobility. I have to say that the narrator did an excellent job, very educational and she had the best smoothing voice! Make sure you see the gators and birds at the bar side of the ticket booth, easy to miss but it had a ton of gators and birds there! Finish up with the bird boardwalk at the end of the park. Highly recommend!

Lots to do here and good for all ages. $6 park entrance fee and small car line wait to pay. Trails, bird watching, camping, canopy walk (was shorter than expected, but great views at the top) and picnic areas. Alligator sightings under the bridge area is best. Further into park there are restrooms, food, $ boat tours, kayaking and canoe rentals.
Jeff
Wonderful state park with lots of stuff to do for an entire day! Entry is $6 for a car. There’s a river boat tour $22 for adults and I think half for kids. Buy it together with the tram tour for $32 or $22 for tram alone. We came for the tower with suspended bridge which we saw pictures of. At the end of the bridge you can climb up another 5 stories or so. I could feel the tower swaying a bit in the wind as you climb up above the trees. It’s an fun tower which was built mostly by volunteers (+some professionals).
Other stuff: Rent a kayak or bike. A bird watching boardwalk, camping, alligators. Lots of open spaces and fresh air. There’s even hot food available to purchase which we didn’t try as we brought a bag full of food.

Spent several days and nights at Myakka River State Park. Check-in was quick and the park service personnel were friendly, helpful and very courteous. Unfortunately during the time of our visit the resturant was closed due to renovations and because the water level was low we were not able to take a river tour. There is an abundance of wildlife to see and to photograph. We found the Canopy Walkway challenging but worth the effort once you reach the top.
Jersey Girl
I love going to Myakka state park. There is so much to see and a lot you can do as well l. You can fish, canoe, Kayak. Go on the trolly for a ride around the beautiful grounds. See many many massive alligators. There is a high tree post with a wooden bridge to walk across to see the view from above of the gorgeous park.
Kelly Smith
Awesome park!! Saw loads of wildlife including alligators, cranes, spoonbills, deer and turkeys. Perfect for the electric bikes. Couldn't do the boat tour because they don't allow dogs. This park did not disappoint and was a perfect way to spend the day.
Brad Loncar
I was here today to hike from the Fox’s Low Road trail entrance to the Mossy Hammock campsite. It took me about 1 hour 10 minutes to make it to Mossy Hammock and the same retracing back for a total of 2 hours 20 minutes. When you initially drive in and pay, ask the ranger for a “Hiking & Biking by Day or Overnight” paper trail map, which I was told were in short supply on the day I visited. You will likely park on the side of the road near the trail entrance. The trail was well defined and there were regular color markings on trees in case you have any moments of doubt. Most of this route was under the shade of canopy but there was one area of open field hiking under the sun. This was a very easy and nice walk. I was here on what seemed like a busy Friday in March, but only saw one other pair of hikers along the way. I’ll definitely be back to explore more trails and campsites when I have more time in the future. This is a great state park.
The Touchstonez
Love old Florida feeling..saw lots of deer and they seemed very use to humans. Made great pics..saw some wild turkeys, many birds, and gators very close up as well..the wildflowers in the meadow (May) are amazing! Great photo op!
Lorraine Millas
One of Florida’s jewels. Wildlife and beautiful scenery. The treetop observation tower gives a spectacular view. Lots of great hiking trails. They have a Grill, canoe and bike rentals. Boat tours of the lake when water levels permit. Camp sites are nice and well maintained. My favorite spot.
Margo Williams
Not as many birds as I normally see and there is a lot of construction both in the main building and the park itself . The inside cafe is closed and the gift shop is a fourth of it's normal size.
But it's still worth the trip. They have brought in a food truck so you can still get something to eat. The canopy walk and tower is pretty cool. And the paths are very well maintained. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash as there are gators anywhere near the water.
Kate Boughton
We loved our short stay here! We stayed one night, campsites were a little tight, would have been nice to have more space between sites, but not unbearable. Our neighbors were super nice. My kids loved the alligator viewing bridge! The little canopy walk thing was fun, not super exciting at the very top of the tower. Great place with kids!
The Nar Side
We absolutely enjoyed our visit to Myakka River State Park! We parked at the rangers station and biked a little over 10 miles on Park Drive, a paved road that runs northeast about 7 miles to North Gate. About a mile into the park, on the south side of the road about 100 meters off the road, there is a 100-foot long canopy walk about 60 feet up. You enter one way and walk up several flights of steps and walk across the suspension bridge. On the other end, you can go up the tower another 20 feet and then go back down. Myakka Outpost is about three miles on Park Drive. There is a camp store, cafe, and boat tours offered at Boat Basin. It was fairly crowded for a Monday so we didn't go into the Outpost. The public boat ramp was closed but I'm not sure if that was because it was a week day or for other reasons. Boat tours were being given. Continuing northeast on North Drive (name change somewhere around the Boat Basin), you come to Birdwalk. It is about a 400-meter long boardwalk to an observation deck overlooking Upper Myakka Lake. If you continue on North Drive heading northeast, you will end at North Gate which is only open on weekends or federal holidays. There are offroad biking and hiking trails throughout the park as well as campgrounds.

4.5 stars, LOVE the park and the amenities. Boat tour, tram were both very interesting. Canopy walk is awesome. So much wildlife to enjoy. All the rangers and staff are very friendly. Craft beer on-site. HIGHLY recommend a visit. From a camping perspective, I had to remove 1/2 a star due to 0 phone coverage and small tight camp sites in the trailer loop. But overall an enjoyable experience.
Akshat Jain
For those who only have an hour or so, take a drive through the park and at first few spots, you will be able to see a couple of alligators at least and some wildlife here and there. You can drive through the peaceful park. If you have more time and the weather is feasible, boat tours are what was recommended to us and hiking.

We really enjoy coming to this state park! Have seen an abundance of wildlife every time. (Gators, deer, lizards, rabbits, all kinds of birds)
The canopy walker way & tower is always a highlight! We also really like the boardwalk. It’s very serene out here, especially if you get out there when no one else is around.
The picnic area is nice, many tables. The cabin has fans if you want to eat under a fan.
Only thing about the picnic area is the gators- apparently people have fed them here (DO NOT FEED THE GATORS!!!!) and they come right up to the bank/people 😳 use every caution, watch your children closely.
2 downsides of the park:
Facilities are never clean.
Gift shop is way over priced. ($20+ for 4 popsicles!)
We really enjoy going to state parks in the area & the others seem to keep up better with the cleanliness of the restroom area & prices aren’t as gauging! Myakka is definitely the most popular, so I’d expect better.
Cameron Kitchens
I can't type enough words to describe what an awesome place this is! It's like a real life paradise on Earth!!!! There's so much wildlife there you can't even imagine! All of the staff are super friendly and really care so deeply for this park!!!! My company done the debris removal here after devastating hurricane Ian, we were all treated like family and really appreciate the courtesy we were shown.
Jenaya Posusta
Great park to hike and see some gators! The wooden canopy walk was very educational and a fun experience. Not much for trail postings, however, sometimes it is fun to just wander (:
MIchele Wilson-Skarr
My friends from Ireland and South Africa and I took the boat ride with Captain Peter. We enjoyed the experience immensely. He was very funny and a great storyteller. We learned so much about the alligators and the other wildlife. It was the best way to spend a gorgeous Florida afternoon. The tree canopy and tower were also amazing. But seeing so many alligators up close and personal on our boat ride with Captain Peter was truly the highlight of our day!
Chris Yust LaClaire
Enjoyed our campsite and stay. Boat tour not available. We're looking forward to it. Bummer. Enjoyed our own wildlife drive several evenings. Saw birds, deer, gators, wild turkeys and wild hogs!
Brian Cerreta
Great park, lots to do. Admission is $4 to $6 depending on vehicle occupancy.
Lots to do: hiking, biking, canopy walk, bird watching incl boat cruise.
I had limited time unfortunately did the canopy walk and part of the nature walk. Park rangers and volunteers here very kind and helpful.
Wayne Monday
Great park lots to do. Fun different unique affordable. Must see. One thing, pedestrians bicycles and autos share the road. Was pretty dangerous at a bridge. Needs dedicated bike and foot paths
Pete
Go here if you want to see alligators!!! The park ranger at the gate was very polite and explained to us where to go for the best alligator sightings. Some things were closed due to hurricane damage but overall it was a very fun experience!
Mark Buchanan
This has long been one of our favorite state parks. We have done day visits and overnighted in two of the campgrounds. We like Big Flats campground best even though it the older campground due to it's location to the cafe, boat ramp, spillway, picnic area. We always see a lot more wildlife in this area. From deer, wild hogs, bald eagles and the usual florida suspects gators, herons and tons of wading birds. Our only negative to the park is that they are in dire need of bike lanes and trails. Particularly on weekends bikers and drivers are playing chicken on the road. It is great bike ride in the park but a little to close for comfort sometimes. And some bike trails into back areas would be nice also. And my final wish is for the Bird Walk to be moved closer to lake, during the dry season all the wildlife is far from the walkway.
LAURIE ROMATOWSKI
Rainy. But we made the best of it. The Canopy Tree Trail is a must. Nice long drive in park for people that are not able to walk. Beautiful foliage and cypress trees.Saw deer, turkey and alot of birds. The cage picture is to catch wild hogs. Which we heard in the distance.
Smith Point
Great place to check out Florida’s wildlife. From the 7 story tower, you can get a bird’s eye view of the forest. I didn’t see one building from the tower, just forest in all directions. The boat tour is nice, just avoid going on it if it’s windy out. Gators don’t like wind.
Johanna Hughes Pribble
We saw a lot of this park in one afternoon. We did the canopy walk and got to see above the treeline. That was fun.
Then, we did a canoe ride in shallow water on the lake. It turns out that there are hundreds of alligators in the lake and we saw them all over the place. But, they were always afraid of our boat and would go under the water when we went by.
We went on a little hike on the trail to remote camping and we saw even more alligators.
Renee Trevino
Beautiful park, had the Big Flats camping loop pretty much to ourselves until the weekend at which point it became packed. Bathroom showers in that loop need some attention. The spiders have taken over. Hahha!
Ty Brewer
Great park! Plenty of natural beauty and activities to do in the park. Go for a boat tour, rent a kayak or just hike. Shake an alligators tail while you're at it!
Greg Forbes
An excellent example of the lowland flood forest found in the area. Expansive park with many wildlands.
Excellent diversity of shorebirds, deer, turkey, alligators and even manatees! Who would have thought of manatees this far inland? Great paddling opportunities on the lake. Don't go during mosquito season!
Shahedul Islam
This place is absolutely beautiful. I went there in a breezy winter day with a temperature around 40s. The sheer variety of wildlife is something amazing. There are warnings everywhere because the alligators are everywhere, saw raccoons, boars, alligators ,birds. The Lake water is brown for some reasons. The boats tours are absolutely amazing. In the winter we need to put on enough layers to avoid the cold air.Dont forget birdwalk and the Canopy Bridge walkway. They absolutely steal the show
Kaja SWIEB
Great place, love the canopy walk, bring 2 quarters if you want to use the binoculars on the top, or bring your own binoculars to enjoy the view. plenty of wild life, birds and other animals like boars and alligators, be mindful. The gift shops offered a lot of souvenirs
Joseph Wood
Nice park to walk the trail along the Myakka River. Saw 3 alligators and 2 turtles today. Only thing that would be a nice addition would be a portapotti. But I know being fairly secluded, people would probably only mess them up.
Paul Jaccod
Beautiful forest, large and well maintained trail leading to and from the canopy walkway. Great views, very quiet and remote area, this park has a lot to offer. Wished I could have done it on a day not so overcast.
Alicia Engel
We loved visiting this park. The trails were easy for children and we saw tons of wildlife. The alligators were amazing and we watched a heron catch and eat a snake! The canopy walk was fun too!
Marlene Viola
Beautiful park. We stayed in Cabin #2. Very clean and very rustic (which is ok with us). It was built in 1930s or 1940s. For a video on this find us on YouTube at AtlasJeeper. Also, Follow us for our reviews and adventures #AtlasJeeper on Instagram and YouTube.
David Meyer
The park is top notch. The river cruise not so much. I should note that I have been told by a person who has been on two separate river cruises at the park, conducted by two different companies, that one is far better than the other. Regrettably I do not remember which is the better of the two. Investigate before you buy. A fabulous place to see birds and the occasional alligator.
Lara Rainbolt
First time visiting even though I grew up in south Florida. The canopy walk was very cool but is not for everyone. The first tower is about 25 feet and gives access to the suspension bridge. From the suspension bridge you access the 72 foot tower (also accessible from the ground). The stairs and suspension bridge are designed for single stream of traffic so you have to be patient and courteous. It is all designed to keep people moving as the platform at the top can hold about 4 to 6 people.
The bridge on the drive to the canopy walk is a great place to see alligators. You can take a hike there from the parking area or walk down from the road.
The Trading Post has a food truck, gift shop, and picnic area. It is on the river and had several gators and wading birds.
brad chisholm
I went early on Christmas for my first time to Myakka, the rangers told me the best places to go so I had to visit deep hole it was awesome! Definitely over 100 gators around the pond
Rosemary Colon
I finally made it to this State Park. I can't believe it took me so long. I need to come back and bring my family the next time they come visit. I have campers, fishers, hikers, bike riders, kayakers in my family. This is the perfect place for a family reunion.
Bizzle Wizzle
Beautiful walking trails with boardwalks, a treetop canopy suspension bridge and tons of photo opportunities! I highly recommend spending some time here and bring a camera!
Rob Lacy
A dream park for botanists and photographers. The Canopy Walk is a treat. Be sure to look for the various aerophytes in the trees while climbing. Abundance of alligators and wading birds.
John Bowman
Very nice park with lots of wildlife if you LOOK for it. We saw a mother racoon and her 3 little ones, a deer laying between the lake and drive, and of course gators!
Isai Segura
Lots of diverse wildlife to see. Fun for the entire family. Admission is $6 per car for 2 to 10 passangers. $4 for single passangers
Annika Foerster
I had a wonderful time walking the trails and seeing many alligators. I asked questions to the park ranger about the alligators and he was very friendly and informational. It is so still and peaceful, there are no Powerlines or street noises. One thing to note is that the foodtruck area had a lot of bees that were flying around the trash bins. However, I didn’t get stung so if you leave them alone then it will be ok. I will definitely be going back and exploring more
Eric Howe
This park is fantastic! We had planned for an hour or two. Could have spent a full day here. The canopy walk is a must-do. Bring binocs for birdwatching!
nishant narula
Amazing state park with different activities to do. One can do a boat tour, do cycling, hiking, do a canopy trail. We did a boat tour and our captain Robert was amazing. He gave us the great tour. He showed us different animals including alligator and is an amazing guy. We loved our time at Myakka River State Park.
L C
My husband and I did the 9AM lake boat tour and WOW!
We were unsure of how much we’d get to see in the morning but it was absolutely wonderful.
Our Captain, Robert was so knowledgeable and funny! We really really enjoyed our morning adventure and will 100% be returning.
Thank you for such a wonderful morning!
Erica Cordazzo
Love supporting parks. A car with up to 8 people can visit for just $6. Can take a boat tour for an extra fee. My kids enjoyed going up the observation tower and across the birdwalk. Lots of available clean restrooms. Options for camping and fishing.
Kei
We had a great time outdoors. They have a few exciting activities, for example boat tours, tram tours (for those who hate hiking or can’t hike), kayaking, canoes, bike rental, bird watching etc. I didn’t go on the boat because our plans were more hiking. Most go to the Canopy walk is really exciting climbing up the tower and trippy because it moves. We stayed at Cabin 1, DO NOT STAY if you are annoyed by the AC unit that wouldn’t stop kicking lol but totally worth staying in one, in addition the smell of humidity sucks but they did include a humidifier but it makes the cabin hot. Above all we really didn’t care, we wanted an outdoor experience not a city one, for all the luxury things I would’ve stayed in a hotel. If I were to come again, I would choose another Cabin. Other than the exciting activities, they have cabin rental and camping sites available for rent. If you rent a Cabin, it comes with all the appliances you may need (refrigerator, microwave, stovetop/oven, sink, etc..) they also historical sites. This is an all one experience, one in a lifetime. And for all those adventurous, freaky couples, goooooo, is a super exciting high climax experience in the natural outdoors!! 😉😎
Sandra Ziady-Workman
Absolutely wonderful experience. Such a great place our boat captain and narrator was Absolutely amazing. I believe his name is Robert. Such a great place were from Washington state we drive semi truck across all 48 states. Glad we had time.to stop.
Marie Sargeant
Great place for hiking and seeing wildlife. The hike to Deep Hole was definitely worth it, although very hot in June. We did it early in the morning, it’s 5 miles (2.5 each way). So many alligators! You will need to stop at the main park entrance first and get a pass to enter this part of the park. It’s located approximately a mile down the road from the main park entrance. The main park offers an observatory tower, bird watching, a large paddle boat ride (no airboats any longer), and tram (boat and tram are an extra fee). Bug spray is a must and lots of water to hydrate. They did have a food truck the day we went.
Jeremy Hall
Lots of places to explore. Aug-Oct isn't busy for camping so you can get a spot without having to book long in advance. The boat tour is a nice hour long relaxing ride across a big lake. The canopy walkway is just something you have to see. The bird walkway is also good.
Rosalie B
Beautiful parc. Have been walking around for at least 5 hours. Really worth going!
Cindy C
Great relaxing park. Love the tower. Gift shop and restaurant has been closed for months. But there is a trailer that sells food and beer. Great hiking And picnic area. Trees are beautiful and park is very well maintained.
Katie Taco
When the weather is perfect, great park! Only $6 per vehicle. Picnic areas, trails, bird walk. It was a great day.
Nancy Pedraza
We've been camping at Myakka River State Park for the last 24 years! We're raising a second generation here now. It's been our Thanksgiving tradition. But I have to see that the traffic and the inconsideration of the visitors has reached an all-time high. After the park closes my family and I go around picking up garbage from inconsiderate people. It makes us sad but it also makes us proud The word true Floridians and campers. My grandparents taught me that you always leave a campsite the same or better than when you got there!
Regina Cracchiolo
Great park to take the family. Nature trails, beach area Cafe, gift shop, bike, canoe rentals. There's something for everyone.
D.A.C
Wonderful experience. Walked around and it was beautiful, gators, birds, big bees 😆 plenty to see, enjoy the beauty of what Florida has to offer. …

Great place for a family day. We had a great time at Myakka River State Park today. We walked the trail, went 76.1 feet high on the observation towers, ran through the Beautiful flower garden. Saw deer’s , birds, vultures and alligators.
Brenna Hanley
Absolutely gorgeous! The tram and boat rides are informational and relaxing. Perfect for a short day trip or picnic lunch.
Andrea Sparks
Myakka is a incredible park just a few miles from Sarasota. When you pull in and start driving you feel like your driving through old Florida. There is a short hike to a canopy walk located in the tree tops. There is a bridge with a kayak launch and you can see lots of birds and a few alligators there. We saw one alligator that had a fishing line attached to him. They were lots of deer, the cutest fawn, turkeys and boar with their babies. If you drive farther you will come to the Outpost where you can get food and a beer. They also have a boat ride on the lake which is very shallow, It was about 2 feet deep when we were there. Driving past there is a bird boardwalk trail and a second picnic area along a stream. If you decide to do a nice hike choose Deep Hole Trail located down the road from the main entrance. You will need to stop at the ranger station to get a permit. You will see lots of alligators, wildflowers and waterbirds.
Eduardo Cuenca Jr.
Loved it! So nice and peaceful and clean. Been there many times and will be back many more times. Great staff.😎 …
Kevin Junghans

We took the tour boat ride which was nice but unfortunately we only saw one gator 🐊. Leaving the park around 6pm we did see many deer. …
david martinez
Quiet and peaceful. Scenic drive, plenty of wildlife deer, gators, lots of birds, turtles and some hogs.
allison guy
I can’t wait to go back. We saw gators, turkeys, deer and tons of birds. I would love to camp here and take the boat tour. The gift shop is under remodel, but the selection is still very good.
Paul Stripsky
Great place to view alligators and other wildlife. Enjoy the boat ride when available. Last time on the boat, we had a young lady who gave the tour. I wish I remembered her name, but sorry I don't, but she did the best job explaining and pointing out the wildlife. She was awesome.
Seismic Synthwave
We had a great time! Perfect place to spend quality time with the family. Enjoying the nature walk, watching the birds and so much more! Just check out their website and see what all the things that they offer. We're definitely going back.
Lori Martine
Lots of wildlife to view, great place to cakp, hike, bike and kayak!
Heath & Jennifer Duncan
This is the most peaceful and unspoiled natural wildlife we have seen anywhere in Florida. Myakka has an abundance of natural woodlands and grasslands and a huge lake all providing a comfortable home to tons of wildlife. Many birds, turtles, deer, small critters and yes, alligator.
It's good for walking trails for hours, riding bicycles or can even be enjoyed from a car if necessary.
If you like the unspoiled outdoors as it looked before mankind this is the spot.
Have no fear if you prefer to drive to a boat or tram tour of parts of the park they have that too.
They even have tent & RV camping sites with bathrooms and hot showers included.
This place gets 5 stars 🌟
Pete Berlin
Meh. Average Florida state park. The tower and tree walk are closed until further notice because of the hurricane.

6/5 stats if possible. BOAT tour with duane was top tier. Very informative and super nice and welcoming. The guy at the gate was very helpful. The woman who we purchased our boat tour tickets from was very very sweet and kind. The lady in the gift shop was very warm and made us feel very comfortable and welcomed. Beautiful state park. Can't wait to go back and explore the hiking there. ☺️ ✌️

Terrific shaded campsite and fantastic campground, sewage lines at campsite made for perfect camping trip!! We will return
Jessica Peters
A beautiful park with lots of wildlife! It's lush and green, with many species of birds, we also we're able to see many gators and even a herd of wild boar! In summer it may be very hot , but it was lovely with the cool weather! They also have a nice gift shop, boat rides, kayak & bike rentals.
Caitlyn Wilson
What a beautiful place! Dog friendly! So many places to explore! Took the guided tram tour and it was an both extremely educational and was able to see some amazing sights and animals!
The also have a boat tour as well but it was sold out for the day so we weren’t able to do that. There is so much to see and explore at this park!!!
susan marcus
Boat ride was par, we did see lots Of alligators, wild pigs and some birds. The tour operator was not friendly and unwelcoming. This could be due to the fact we were the only ones going out on the tour and they seemed as though we were putting them out to actually have to take the boat out. We arrived 2 minutes before departure time which might have irritated the tour operator, but it was not like we were holding up a large group of people. I guess I would not say the cost was worth it or maybe it was our unfriendly greeting that did not help giving it a high review rating.
Desyre Arnold
Stunningly beautiful park. I was only here to take photos late in the afternoon at the flower field, so I didn’t have time to explore, but I definitely will be returning shortly to do so. The field was so gorgeous and clean, I saw 4 deers just in the field within an hour of being there. (I will also just say there is like 0 reception here which I didn’t know beforehand if you’re directionally challenged like myself.)
Bryan Tchang
Fun overall experience. Quiet park full of small trails and wildlife. Cute gators here and there. Love watching the canopy from the top. Breathtaking experience. Must visit at least once if you're at this park.

We stayed at Myakka for New Years! The park is HUGE and has so much to do! You can camp, bike, hike, kayak, see all sorts of wildlife! They have tram and boat tours. They also have a large store and food services! The beer and ice cream were great! They have three campground loops, one has full hook-ups! Our loop had huge sites. We saw some of the biggest gators we had seen in the wild! We loved walking on the canopy walk! And as a bonus, it is located close to Sarasota, so you are super close for a day of exploring near the gulf coast!

OMG perfect piece of mother nature for us mortals
It is a great place to see the florida wild life . Peaceful, quite, amazing
If youre planning to move to florida this is the perfect training ground to see if youre made for it hahaha
Or at least thats what i like to think
If you do not like this park then think very careful about your next “move”
Brooklynn “Ruddy” Jones
It was amazing beautiful place lots of animals. But need new road there are so many bumps from when road has been patched. And the animals where amazing we got 3 feet away from a doe and my kids loved it. Huge gators.
Olaf Olen
What a great place to bring your family to explore the nature. Very long trails to ride your bike or walk. Great camping grounds for tents or even cabins. Bring your own RV if you have one. You could rent canoes bikes and get fishing bait. Nice place to relax and enjoy family time.
John Gillespie
We absolutely love MRSP! Today we spent over 5 hours geocaching throughout the park. What a great way to explore and see some amazing sites. Most of the caches aren’t very far off of roads or trails. Be careful not to disturb the local inhabitants. They tend to get a little moody and some can be a little deadly if you aren’t paying attention. Such great memories were made today and we can’t wait to come back and explore more of this awesome park. Worth paying it a visit. Hopefully we get a chance next time to ride the river boat. Today was only geocache day. Happy trails!!
Miranda
Amazing state park!
Plenty of gators to see 🐊
6 dollars per car for the entrance fee. They offer kayak & bike rentals.
This park is a must see for anybody visiting the Sarasota area! …

Myakka State Park is wonderful! I've been visiting this park for over 15 years and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Staff and rangers have great attitudes as well. Just keep in mind that Myakka has received significant damage during the recent hurricanes and some attractions are not currently available.

Want to see ALLIGATORS?!? Head to Myakka River State Park! Just a short, 20-min drive from Venice, FL, this wonderful park lets you experience the natural beauty, the wildlife, and the expanse of South Florida's marsh and swamp habitats, by car and on foot (if you choose). This week (late December), when the water was low, we were lucky to see 20 alligators in close proximity, as well as a stunning flock of bright pink roseate spoonbills. (NO -- they're not flamingos! LOL) A couple of main roads let you slowly meander through the park, where you're likely to see at least some alligators and water birds from the car...and maybe even wild pigs or an armadillo! If you get out at any number of pull-offs to walk around, you'll be able to discover decks overlooking the water, observation towers, and "off-the-beaten-path" locations away from the roads that can bring you "up close & personal" with Florida wildlife. There is also a boat tour (for a fee), canoe rentals, and a snack bar located where many gators like to hangout & sunbathe. This is a special park, which provides exceptional opportunities to experience Florida in its natural state. So, please be safe, be respectful, don't harass the wildlife, and take it all in mindfully...one moment at a time! This is a place to remember, and return to!

Myakka River State Park is a massive area…typically full of lush trees, with an abundance of wildlife, a Canopy walk, and a Birdwalk. There are areas for camping, picnicking, biking, and benches to just sit and relax and take in the views. It’s beautiful place to visit, and when you leave, you leave with an appreciation of nature and in awe of its beauty. It’s an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of life.

RV site BF 16.. can watch sunset to our right .full moon to our left..great place for nightly fires..lots of walking/hiking. very rustic. Too many biting bugs! Went to Siesta Key one day ..Venice Pier n beaches the next..Both only 30 minute drive and beautiful.
Laura Scott
Camped here for 5 days in the RV loop Palmetto Ridge, FHU. Great biking trails, hiking trails and lots of bird watching. The deep hole hike requires a permit at the ranger station, get there early as they go quick. Only 30 ppl allowed per day. Long hike out to see many gators basking on the shore. Best to do in winter months, no shade. Very nice Florida State park, will definitely return!
Matthew Shewalter
What more can I say than I love this beautiful park. I did not get to explore all the amenities this gorgeous park has to offer but I did enjoy the scenery 100%. The bathrooms are clean, the roads that went thru the park were beautiful with arched oaks and Spanish moss. Will definitely be visiting again.
Goobees Rakhlin
We had a wonderful visit here with our 8&9 yr olds. They got to see some alligators and were very lucky to learn many alligator facts from the park herpetologist Dean Allison. Dean generously shared his knowledge and time with us so that we could learn even while on vacation.
Denise Morrow
One of our favorite parks to ride through to see wildlife!
Charity Zeimet
Nice trails, lots off wildlife, also seen wild baby pigs but didn't get a photo. Trails all over, multiple clean working restrooms, camping and nice picnic areas along the water.
Tess Tomlinson
We see animals everytime we go. There is always fun, new, and interesting things to do. There's the trails....we've seen deer, boars and monster gators. Then there's the tours and camping. There is also something special only a handful of people know about
Julie Lechner
One of the best parks I've been to in a long long time. My kids loved the bridge and the nature walk. We didnt do the tours because the prices seemed a little steep for the time length of the tour so we adventured out around the park on our own and had a picnic at one of the many shelters throughout the park
Nate Humphrey
Nice place if u love nature. Me and the family took the boat tour to see some gators but the boat ended up getting stuck 3 times in the lake so we didn't get to see much
Dennis Frye
Huge park. 50+ square miles of it. Has cabins to rent and campground. The few hiking trails we went on were not muddy even tho it had rained all that morning. The main interest is the canopy "trail" which is unique to this park. They also offer boat trips around the lake ($20 pp) and tram tours ($12 pp) which we did not do this day. We did have some ice cream from the cafe which was great and the food looked.great.
Afrika Marie
Amazing nature experience, I loved the place! You can see animals and have a nice IPA and a gator Kebab
K S
Beautiful! The canopy tree walk was so cool. $6 to enter the park but very worth it. Just wish it wasn’t so hard for people to find a trash can, I even saw a dirty diaper on one of the trails, Sad.
m lucas
Definitely a State park you have to visit, especially if you enjoy seeing a lot of alligators. There is also so much to do that it's not just a one day adventure.
Serena
This place was epic for me! I saw so much wild life it was amazing! It was one of the best days! I strongly recommend checking this place out if you like wild life! I was there all day just watching 😊💖 …
Robert Bosch
Great campsites, well screened from neighbors. Bird life outstanding in March! Nice concessions and gift shop. Busier during daytime, but gets quiet early evening.
Kylie
We had fun! We enjoyed the tower/bridge and seeing alligators. We want to go back and do a boat tour or take our kayak but didn’t have time this time.
Cori Schrader
Because of flooding, we didn't get to hike many of the trails, but from what little I was able to enjoy on my first visit, I will definitely be back! Short, but cool canopy walk/tower. Long, paved main road. Camping, fishing, gift shop/food, rentals, boat ride and plenty of wildlife.
Malte Landwehr
Amazing park. Everything easily reachable by car.
Chris Glick
PROTIP: Bring state park annual pass, binoculars, mosquito repellant spray, hiking shoes and water bottles!
On the long drive in, stop at the Boylston nature trail -is nice and the tree top walkway is awesome! The main park by the lake has a nice gift shop with cute manatee items (see photos) and cafe food such as gator soup as well as beer selection. The 1hr boat tour is just meh if you are used to seeing gators. It putters out along one shore at the speed of yawns and back the same way so each side of boat can see the same gators and birds. There is a Tram tour available too. It cost a bit to enter park unless you have the annual State pass. There are bathrooms near main entrance and at the very end gift shop by the lake.
annamalai sivaraman
Good park with lot of trees, wildlife . Canopy walk was good and the tower was closed . Bird walk was closed too . So we couldn’t explore much about this park . The camping sites are looking promising and we will give it a try . The boating here will be exciting only for kids . Not a go for Floridians as it’s nothing new other than alligators watch . They charge 20$ per adult . This park is a nice place to have a family day picnic at this point of covid time as I haven’t seen many people here .
Paul Montz
The park was great. My three children loved it. The tram ride was very informative and it historical sense. However my three children did not find it as entertaining as we came in summer and wildlife was scarce and they got bored of the history quickly. next we did the boat ride it was very nice much cooler than the tram or hiking. However also being summer we only saw a few alligators and it was suggested that winter is best to do this trip. The canopy tower is awesome and only takes about 5 to 10 minutes. If I came back I would definitely do canoeing or kayaking.
Jeff S.
Great place to visit. Beautiful scenery, lots of trails to choose from. Cheap entry fee for a great day of outdoor time. We will definitely be back.
sara t
I got the best views and pics/vids of the gators on an overpass that wasn’t even in the park. It’s just outside of the park on either side of the road . I seen people stopped and pointing so went to check it out . So if you’re passing through the area and don’t wanna pay to get in, or don’t feel like going on hikes, maybe check that spot out first .
Keith H
I have been going to Myakka for years. Most times I walk my dog there, but my parents came to visit recently and we went and took the airboat ride. It was a great experience, definitely a nice way to learn more about the park and the alligators that live there. The canopy walk is so cool- you climb up a staircase to see above the canopy of the forest. It had a bridge high above the trail below as well. Great for adults and kids. Many trails for walking, and you’re likely going to see some wildlife- alligators for sure, deer, tons of birds etc. If you’re on vacation it’s a great place to go that doesn’t cost a lot of money.
Silvia Granger
It’s an awesome park to hike and kayaking. The lake is calm and easy to row. Great adventures into the river side. Very clean with lots of opportunities to make a full day of fun. Price is very reasonable.
Stephanie Daige
Beautiful place to enjoy nature! We loved the canopy walk and observation tower. We saw all kinds of plant life, particularly oaks, palms, lichens, and epiphytes. We saw eagles and other birds, boars, deer, and gators. Plenty of shaded trails for walking. We got the gator stew and seafood gumbo in the cafe, and I was disappointed by the serving size. For $9 a bowl, I was expecting more than a tiny (about 8 oz) serving. It was not listed as an appetizer, so I thought it would be more of a meal-size portion. Also, it would be nice if the restrooms were cleaner and stocked with soap and paper towels.
stephanie bloom
Good place to spend the day with family! We enjoyed ourselves. Glad we finally visited. If its alligators you're wanting to see they're definitely here! However we did learn that if it's too hot outside (it was over 100 degrees when we went) the alligators will not come to the surface until dusk which is when we seen them. There's certainly other types of animals and wildlife to see! I highly recommend the canopy walk as well!
Jim Bennett
If you're looking for a really excellent day trip, or a weekend family camping adventure; Myaaka State Park is a great choice. Easy drive up or down I-75 South East of Sarasota, Fl. There are activities for all your needs; biking fishing, hiking trails, or even a 1-2 hr boat tour.
Kiwitravelor
Rented a canoe with a friend and canoed the river out to the lake. got to enjoy the Sun as well as seeing some alligators sunning on the edge and in the water. Great place to have a picnic before or after as well. Remember a cushion for the canoe, you will thank me after. !
Joe Watson
What a wonderful park. $6 for our admission. We saw bald eagles, Osprey, fish, wild hogs, turkeys, deer, white pelicans, tons of blue herons, hawks, tons of other water fowl, turtles, and yes, many many many alligators. There are miles and miles of hiking trails along with bicycle riding opportunities. They have an amazing climbing tower and a suspension bridge. We loved it ❤ Nice gift shop, and cafe. The picnic areas were great, we packed a lunch and ate it there. TAKE binoculars!!!😃
Samantha Zinn
This place was so breathe taking. They do not have air boats but they do have kayaking, canoeing 🛶 and pontoon boat rides. Really nice to enjoy a day in nature. We saw a few gators and a ton of cranes. It was very hot because we went in the middle of summer, August. So make sure you bring plenty of water. The trails were nice and the tree bridge as well as the lookout which is I believe is 80 feet up was super nice with some great views.
Alberto Ramos
the park is a beauty, you can walk, ride in your car, or on your bicycle, you can find gators, and many deer and take nice photos. I recommend the place, it is super quiet and very well kept. It is the second time that I come in 2 weeks and I am still fascinated with deer. I would definitely go back a thousand times ...
Damon Noe
Very nice state park. $6 to get in during February when we went. Loads of trails, great dining area with refreshments and surprisingly good food. Classic Florida state park. Amazing canopy walk that's above tree level. You must check that out. Long boardwalk with observation area and shaded roof. Visitors center that's kind of outdated but still informative.
Samuel Yoder
Well worth the $6 fee! We saw a lot of wildlife deer, gators, and there’s no shortage of birds here. Also some some wild pig sign. Rangers were friendly and answered all our questions. Must stop in here if you’re in the area.
Bill Waller
About $7 dollars entrance fee there is loads to see beyond the ranger station. lovely winding roads with large oaks arching to form tunnels of branches overhead. Plenty of Gators and abundant bird life. If you like man made amenities there is a large gift shop and an impressive cafe overlooking a large body of water. There is also a 70' tower and below a suspension bridge that takes a path through the tree canopy. A great family adventure!
Candice Bulcao
Absolutley lovely park. We did the Nature trail which is an easy 45 min hike. Along the trail there is a canopy walkway and a 76 ft tower. This was a truly wonderful experience as the tower takes you above the tree top canopy for a breathtaking view. (Pets are not allowed on the tower, but are allowed on the nature trail). We also did another very short trail that ran along the waters edge. During this walk we saw about 5 alligators sunbathing on the river banks. We found a quite spot with a picnic table and had a peaceful lunch. We did not get cell phone reception in the park, so this is the perfect outing if your family is screen addicted since they will have no choice but to put down their phones and enjoying being in nature. The park is large and we didn't even get to explore everything in our visit, so we will definitely be returning. The park has a $6 entrance fee.
John Heck
The park itself is amazing. Tons of places to explore within the park. We took the boat tour and feel the price was a bit high for an hour tour around the lake with the "chance" to see a few birds and alligators. The boats are clean and appear new and the Captain/ guide did a good job. Just dont feel it was worth the $68 dollars for two adults and two 6 year olds. The concession had a great selection of food, along with a ice cream shoppe. Plenty of souvenirs to purchase inside as well. The camp areas look nice with plenty of shade and the observation deck for the birds was nice, along with the 76' tall tower/ canopy bridge. We had previously done the tram tour and would recommend that tour for price compared to the boat tour. Overall great experience and I took a star off for the cost of the boat tour only.
Kym McGee
I love this park. I Was sad that parts of the park were closed (bird walk and tower) due to covid. The drive thru the park was beautiful. It has trails to bike, a boat ride and kayaking. Lots of gators!
Megan Radigan
Great, friendly staff and volunteers. Unfortunately the river boat tours were cancelled due to wind, and we didn't see ANY gators due to the unseasonal cold weather. But the trails were nice and there were lots of birds to see. We even got to taste some Gator bites at the snack counter (tastes like deep fried chicken, but is chewy like calamari!). Gift shop had lots of Florida stuff, but also patches etc for the park itself.
Jaden Radogna
I saw many animals such as alligators, an assortment of bird and even a few snakes. Gift shop was great although not everything has a price tag on it. I enjoyed the controlled and well-managed trails and the wooden canopy was a lot of fun. One concern I do have is the sign in front of the canopy bridge, does not draw any attention to it. I think this might be a safety hazard because only four people can be on that bridge at once. If someone does not see the sign, it could be risking the life of others. Is he nature was beautiful and I loved the boat ride I got to take. Chris was a great with nature. He knew the facts and was able to provide information about everything except the water temperature. I suggest having a battery operated, handheld, digital, non-contact, laser thermometer. They can be found at Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon, Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond. They also had a cafe so there's no need to bring lunch. Bring a camera and binoculars for best experience.
Please tell me what you think about my review by leaving me a like.
Jeffrey Jones
We really enjoyed walking around different areas of the park. Fun to see so many alligators and other wildlife. The view from the canopy trail was very nice. We also took the boat tour which lasts about an hour. The captain was humorous and informative.
Jon Tyler
Beautiful place to visit. Easy 40 min nature walk. Canopy walk with observation tower. Plenty of Gators and you can get as close as you dare. Campsites, places for barbeques, tram tours, boat tours and on site snack bar.
Aparna iyer
One of my favorite state parks! The tent camping experience was great! Lots of activities to do. Good place for couples as well as families. Do visit the visitor center and get all the brochures. We reached there on Saturday and left on Sunday afternoon. If you could spend two nights, that would be great. Missed visiting the deep hole and the tram/airboat tours :( We spotted plenty of gators and birds. The bird walk is a must 👍 The ranger/birder was very knowledgeable and she helped us identify many birds. Loved the place. Will definitely go back for biking, canoeing and deep hole.
Custom Home Care
This park is gorgeous and wild! There are alligators galore to see in their own habitat so be careful! The trails are groomed, easy to walk on and this park features a great safe observation tower to climb and look over the entire park. It's a canopy walkway with stairs and a bridge to the observation deck. You will definitely see alligators, vultures! and all kinds of birds while walking the incredible walk. There is a great camping area for tent and RV camping. They have a large gift shop and food grill as well. I would definitely recommend staying at or make a special trip to this State Park. You can't find a more entertaining with spectacular views and wildlife for ONLY $6 per car load!
Walter Kropilnicki
Huge park with lots of trails to explore, picnic areas, cabins for rent, RV spots, primitive camping, tram tours, boat tours around the lake, deer, turkey, lots of gators and just about any other wild creature roaming around (just leave them alone, video, pics its fine) restaurant and gift shop by the tran and boat tour with lots of goodies and even ice cream !!
Bring bug repellent and plenty of water on hiking trails, some in the rainy season can be flooded do be carefull.
Robin White
I had so much fun exploring here. I didn't expect to see as much as I did since it's not a zoo. There was a lot to see. It's important to remember that you are in the wild so you have to be careful. I saw alligators, wild pigs, roseate spoonbills, a bald eagle, osprey and lots of other birds. I will go back again and take my family and friends. It is a beautiful place. Just remember, it's called wildlife for a reason.
Becky Denny
Dog friendly, amazing wildlife great restrooms and picnic areas. Lots of trails to go for walks or bike ride. Best time to view wildlife is dawn and dusk.
Tom Schwider
A great state park with abundant wildlife, especially wading birds. There are over 40 miles of trails to get away from the crowds and encounter nature firsthand. The epic beauty of the park is its prehistoric look with foliage right of a scene from Jurassic Park. The park is also loaded with alligators and there is a tree canopy walkway that leads to 72' high observation tower with incredible views.
Joseph Botelle
Just beautiful and the park staff is wonderful.
Lori Clinch
It was my first camping experience in my new-to-me RV. Loved being surrounded by forest & scenic views. Enjoyed the hikes.
Michael Alan Hughes
Yesterday we were going to hike back to Deep Hole, but they were doing a controlled burn. So we were unable to hike back into that remote area. Darn.
So we took advantage of the day and hiked along the river and saw all kinds of wildlife. We saw turkeys, alligators, raccoons, and we even saw the three little pigs running through the woods and a few deer and very big snails, lots of turkey vultures and all kinds of odds-and-ends typed of birds.
It was a great day highly recommend this place to everybody.
Brian Laughery
There is such an abundance of wildlife in this park you just have to stop and take the time to look around. It's a great place to walk, ride a bike, fish, and take pictures of Wildlife. Or you can just drive through and see all kinds of Wildlife.
T Essex
If you're looking for real Florida, well maintained trails and multiple wildlife sightings, this is the park.
Couple reminders that made my camping experience better:
• if going to Deep Hole, be at the Ranger station when it opens. Only 30 permits are given per day, regardless of the party size. Scout troop of 17 and a family of 10 leaves only 3 permits left.
• take your time and be still. Watched a long legged bobcat saunter down the Myakka trail, wild hogs, turkeys, spoonbills in pink...etc
• camp if you can. Nothing like hearing a deer walk past your tent...
Aaron Averhart
This is a beautiful park, offering different looks with each season! Highly recommended if you have an afternoon to spend hiking and observing nature! This time around I saw a plethora of different birds, an alligator and even a White Tail Deer! It's a jewel in the Florida Parks system!
prashob s
Loved the place. The ranger just let me through because it was 6pm. Saw a couple of Gators. Take one of the trails..all of them are easy trails. Also go up the viewing tower for sunset views. Carry a bug spray. Lot of flies at the top of the observation tower. Hidden gem in all sense. I went back to pay the ranger because it was worth it
Melissa Castor
This is a HUGEEE park with a ton of things to do! Its $7/car to get into the park. There are campsites, you can rent a canoe or kayak, bike around, or drive around the park. My family went biking and it was fun, but exhausting!! You can rent bikes/etc in the park, or bring your own!
Must go see the treetop canopy walk! It was very cool but a lot smaller then I thought it was going to be...
This is a great park but only if you're in the area. We drove 2+ hours each way to get here and it wasn't worth that long of a trip. An hour max in my opinion. Still a beautiful park!
Alla Vinokurov
The boat tour guide was fun, but disappointed that we only saw few aligators and couple blue heron. It's bit over advertising. The tram ride was very boring for kids as it had little animal/birds to see.
Uros Davidovic
This was our first time here, and we loved it. There’s a lot of space, so you don’t have to feel like you’re on top of someone and the canopy walk is pretty cool!
Johnny Lee Robinson
My favorite state park in all of Florida. Guaranteed to see gators and the scenic drive mixed along with the bird viewing areas are a sight to see. I come here as often as possible.
Deborah Bergren
Another couple and my husband and I were vacationing in Sarasota for a week. We had researched different things to do and as this was highly rated we decided to check it out. So glad we did!
Though the canopy walk was way shorter in length then we had imagined it was still cool to get up to the top of the tower and view the surroundings from a different perspective. The nature trails surrounding the canopy trail were very pleasant.
We took the boat tour and were lucky enough to be entertained by “captain” Matt who is very knowledgeable about the animals and plants that inhabit the park having spent his whole life in the area and is the great-grandson of the woman who originally owned the land.
We saw many gators, many kinds of birds including eagles, ospreys, and white pelicans. We also saw wild boar.
Victoria Penxa
If you're looking for something to do on Christmas day, they are open. When you pull up you have to pay a small fee, I believe it's $3. There were a lot of people out there but enough room that you don't feel squished since it's outdoors. I haven't tried the restaurant yet since they were closed but I heard good things, I particularly would love to try the gator bites!
Michael LeBlanc
We had a great day at Myakka River State Park. We hiked some trails and climbed the canopy walk. We ate at the cafe (yummy nachos) and we also went on the boat tour on the lake. Great time and great day all around.
Matt Smith
Myakka River State Park was a great time! It was really cool to see the "real" Florida. The car ride through the park back to the boat tour area almost felt like you were driving through Jurassic Park or something with all the different vegetation and wild life. The boat tour was fun and educational. Our Captain spent most of his time explaining the various wildlife, and the history of the park while trying to find alligators for us to look at. I definitely recommend the boat tour to families or anyone looks for a relaxing and informative nature tour. The boat for the tour moves slowly, has high walls and bench seating making it safe for kids.
Steve Karolek
Get close to nature. See birds, gators, and other wildlife in a picturesque setting. Great hiking trails. The canopy walk is a very interesting perspective and the tower view is great when open.
jmedley38
Paid 6$ entrance fee and enjoyed the pontoon boat ride on the river. Was able to see many alligators and bird species including American Bald Eagle. Spent only a few hours, but could probably spend an entire day there.
Alison Williamson
First visit to park since Ian. The staff and volunteers have worked miracles to get this park open to us and I thank them all. Always a wonderful excursion into old Florida!
Reviewer cheffe
This state park costs us $6 for a car and it was worth more than that. The park itself was very clean. The park is mostly natural. You can drive the 5miles through the park by car and can go by feet severel paths to see the nature and the different animal and birds. They have a lot of alligators down here. There are bird watch platforms here too. It is not allowed to feed the animal at all. If you are walking keep the eyes open. There can be alligators everywhere. I would recommend this park if you want to see alligators for sure in the Sarasota region.
Darrell Whitfield
Truly old Florida. A seven mile slow drive with an opportunity to see every animal you could imagine. This park offers an off road tram ride and a large tour boat alone the banks of the famous myakka lake. There is many hiking trails and camping of any style. There is a well stocked gift shop with some food and drinks.
Steve Anstey
Only stayed here for a couple hours. We visited the canopy walk and the nature trails. We also stopped near a bridge to watch the alligators swimming. We had a great time especially for the low price of admission into the park. We wish we spent more time here and next time might take on a tour through the park.
K Murphy
Being a born and raised Floridan it was so nice to be able to go here and appreciate some of Florida's natural beauty! The staff and volunteers were so helpful and nice and there's so much to explore and learn. It was too windy to kayak or canoe but KNOWING fully now what there is to do there and that you should dedicate a FULL day there, we will definitely be going back again!
Jeff Lee
Visited Myakka State Park with my wife the other day. Beautiful area. Seen gators, deer, turkeys, egrets and a pleasant drive. Highly recommend.
Hannah Dowling
So happy we found this gem. Admission is $6 for the car. We brought a picnic, found lots of playgrounds . Walking trails are easy, I brought the stroller. Beautiful canopy bridge, easy for kids to climb and walk over. Saw 6 gators in the lake, and lots of other wildlife. Totally worth the drive!
Theresa Perkins
The canopy walk was an easy flat ground walk with beautiful scenery and wildlife. The bridge and tower to go above the canopy was fun and it was just amazing all together. Great fun for family and friends.
Marlena
This is always a great park to see gators! On this particular trip the park was under water due to all the rain so we could only drive through. We did get to see a few gators even a few babies and their momma. No hiking today tho.

Nice place for a hike, seen some gators, vultures and deer. Mosquitoes do not like to be lonely, they will accompany you on your hike as well.
Martha Q
Great day trip to Myakka River State Park. We did the boat tour and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our guide was informative and very funny! The river is beautiful and full of wildlife.
Definitely stop by the Pink Gator Cafe. We had the BEST homemade pork rinds ever. The food is fresh and delicious. Not what we expected at a state park!
Theresa Hoban
Great weather in the park today. Watching the gator stalk the great blue heron with the fish to big to swallow. Wild turkeys, roseate spoonbills many birds and yummy gator bites for lunch‼️
Michelle Gonzales
On our last day we went to Myakka to take a ride on the world's largest airboat to see some wildlife. The boat ride was really just a slow river boat with an airboat fan in the back. It was nice but it goes real slow, so if looking for a traditional air boat ride this is not for you. The captain did a great job getting us close to the alligators and pointing out different types of birds. He made the ride very enjoyable and was very knowledgeable. We saw a lot of different size gators in the water, on the banks and even got to see some baby ones. We saw a bald eagle swoop down and glide over the water, ospreys, blue herons, and cranes. The restaurant has good snack food and a lot of cool items in the gift shop. We walked around some of the trails and got up close with lots of birds and enjoyed the hike. We also went to to treetop tower. It offers a nice view and was fun to walk a long the bridge. I would like to visit the park again if we find ourselves near Sarasota again. Get there early for the airboat tour, it fills up quick even on a week days. We were on the first one and it was fill. When we got back to the dock there were 2 big buses and a school bus there waiting for the next boat ride.
Megatron
Love this state park! There are many different trails. Always something to look at. The tower and bridge is my favorite part as well! I typically always see alligators when I come here too!
Jon LeBouf
Myakka State Park is a very nice park with a lot of wildlife to enjoy in a Serene environment. You can have a great picnic or just enjoy Nature's Beauty at this park. This Park is open all year round and has very accessible parking
Alex Noe
Myakka River State Park is a decent place to check out. There’s trails, a cool canopy walk, and plenty of gators to view. There’s also a wide variety of birds to see and great photo opportunities. It’s also pretty cheap to get in.
Kel Adams
After walking 2.2 miles, a glorious sight opens up at the deep hole area where the gators live and congregate on the deep hole banks, sunning themselves.
We observed wild hogs, deer, black vultures, roseate spoonbills, herons, and many other water birds.
Get there early! LINE UP TO THE RIGHT of the entrance so employees can get in, DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE. ONLY 30 PEOPLE are given a pass for EACH day. It is worth it. You can get your pass, go to breakfast, and observe for the rest of the day, you have the entire day for only $6.00.
Josh K
Great state park. Nice hikes and seen lots of wildlife including deer, alligators, hogs, and some turkeys. Tram and boat tour were closed due to Covid-19. Fun Geocaching spot as well.
Chef Chrissie Lapidow
Very cool tour on the river to see the wildlife! My family and I had a great time and our boat captain was entertaining and very informative. We saw TONS of gators, birds, and even wild pigs. Learned a lot about the ecology of the area, and the tour was fairly priced. I certainly enjoyed it!
Linda Risley
I love Myakka State Park! The habitat is amazing, wildlife galore! We saw deer, a vast array of birds, alligators and several different habitats that represent Florida very well. There is a canopy walk, trails, concession and gift shop, several picnic areas and camping! We watched a bird catch a fish and the struggle to eat it. That was so real and fun to watch.
Georgette Bond
One of my favorite places in Florida. Perfect for viewing wildlife and taking in all Mother Nature has to offer.
Gabriel Fernandez
Beautiful scenery! Lots of wildlife to see throughout the park. Great park to ride bike and enjoy nature. We would definetly be back.
Rick Stephens
Myakka River is a great State Park. We stayed in the Old Prairie Campground and each site there has full shade and only a short walk from any site to the bath house. The sites are not graveled, but hard packed sand. The camp host rakes each site after a camper leaves so it looks neat and clean. The bath house is tile on the wall and floors and kept very clean. There were only two showers on the men's side, but both were spacious and the water was hot with plenty of pressure. The dressing area is a common dressing area and I believe my wife said the women's side was the same. I dropped 1 star, since showers without doors and common dressing areas seem less safe to my wife.
There's plenty to do at the park, with walking trails, a birdwalk, a tram tour, and a boat tour. They also have bike and canoe rentals. This is a beautiful park and we will definitely come back here!
Toni Margison
Great place to view real Florida foliage and wildlife. Visited right after Tropical Storm Cristobel and a lot of days of rain so the trails were all flooded and closed but we still were able to drive and take in all the beauty. Definitely worth the visit.
Kristine P
Absolutely beautiful. Saw gators, pink flamingos, deer, birds. If you love to be outside this place is the place to be!!
Omar Bodden
Great hiking trails, tons of wildlife, there is an amazing lookout tower over the canopy beautiful log cabins , part of the Florida trail goes through this park which we hiked 4 miles up to bee island. Seen Deer Rabbit Osprey Gator and a variety of other birds .
Thomas Kelliher
This park is well worth going to if you are visiting the Bradenton-Sarasota area. The park is well kept, clean, affordable, and has much more to offer like boat tours and a tram tour of the prairie. There also is a gift shop and cafe that offers a variety of affordable meals. The lake is home to 500-1000 alligators, during my visit I saw 20+ alligators. If you are a bird enthusiast there are hundreds of birds that call this park home; Roseated Spoonbills, Herons, Egrets, Ibis, Anhinga, and more. I've never seen a Spoonbill in the wild until I visited this park. There is so much to explore, during my visit I only scraped the surface of what Myakka River State Park has to offer. Next time I'm down visiting family in Bradenton I will definitely make a full day trip out of the park.
Lorri Mazer Wussick
Gators gators and more Gators make sure to keep your doggies in your little kids safe that being said it is a beautiful part and a gorgeous setting. The only negative thing I have to say is I thought that the raised canopy will be longer than one Bridge
Local Guru
It's was great for the adults , there wasn't much action on the boat tour. Not recommended for kids it an hour on the water moving slow
Jeff Smithson
“My birds, my gators, my park...Myakka.”
Our visit to this beautiful park was unfortunately spoiled by the boat tour. While our guide was very knowledgeable of the park’s wildlife and history, his one hour tour ended up being more about his personal opinions on family values, respectable professions, views on political issues, etc. than it was about the park or the animals. Swimming back to shore would have been tempting, had we not been in the middle of a shallow lake full of alligators and poisonous snakes.
All kidding aside, The park itself is quite lovey. We didn’t rent bikes or kayaks, but imagine that both of those activities would have been a nice way to experience the park.
It didn’t turn out to be the greatest day for viewing alligators when we visited; we saw more of them from shore than we did from the boat - and at about the same distance. However, I think that was just a function of the weather, as there had been a big cold front that had come through in the days before. These things can be hit or miss. Perhaps our guide was just trying to compensate for the lack of gators with a little personal touch, but it was one that we could have done without.
We’d take a pass on the boat tour if I we were to do it again.
jason kluczyk
Nice state park. The bird walk and canopy were the best attractions. We went an cooler over cast day so no gators were out.
Daniel Raber
We went Here with the Famly May 19th Enjoyed the Tour guide on the Boat vary Educational!! Saw lots of Gators some Deer a Wild Bore Great Place Highly Recommend
Sanne Kure-Jensen
Lovely park.
Great birdwatching.
informative visitors center displays on local wildlife, geology and history of the park.
Helpful staff.
Numerous stops with opportunities to view different ecosystems.
Responsible habitat management and exotic invasive control protocols.
Stephanie Cox
Beautiful park a short drive from Sarasota. We were able to see many gators at two different spots within the park. The ranger told us there were over 10,000 gators in the park. We also saw spoonbills, vultures and so many other birds. You can take tram or boat tours which we did not do, opting for the free options. There is a place called deep hole where sometimes hundreds of gators can be seen sunning. You need to get a permit at the office to go there and they only give 30 permits per day, which are gone right near opening time. If you are lucky enough to get one, it will be a 2.2 mile walk each way to get to deep hole - no cars allowed.
Judi
Myakka is a phenomenal natural preserve with so much to do and see. We try to make it here on every visit to Sarasota. On this trip we did the canopy walk and scenic ride through the park. We stopped at a hidden picnic area where we noticed a 6 to 8 foot alligator resting on the bank of the stream. What a sight! Absolutely, take the time to enjoy this wonderful park, it's loaded with so much Florida wildlife.
Sandy LYNCH
The boat ride was really disappointing. We barely saw any alligators, the driver expected us to have menocular to get to see the alligators. If you walk around the lake yourself to the left from the parking you will get to see more alligators by yourself and it would save you money.
Laura ORiorden
I grew up very close to here and this is identical.
you get what you put into it, whether it is camping or a stroll or boat ride.
Tourists should be aware that this is complete boar, mosquito and alligator territory ....all of Florida is that way, and we humans are the true invaders, not the other way around.
JM B
I always enjoy visiting this park but currently it is a mess from Hurricane Ian. Interesting to see the devastation but the birdwalk and canopy walk are closed. Hopefully they will get the much needed funding.
SPH
Beautiful park. Plenty of trails and very scenic views. Great for bird watching. Can get busy on the weekend. They also have a restaurant.
andrea ducko
One of my favorite places to go take pictures it is absolutely beautiful throughout the park camping is really a lot of fun as long as it is not flooding other than that go and enjoy yourself a lot to do
K80
So many hiking trails here! Of course you will see alligators! There is a guided boat ride or you can rent canoes and kayaks if you want to get out on the lake. They have a boat launch if you bring your own. Definitely do the canopy walk to get a birds eye view of the area.
Frolicking In Florida
Beautiful park with lots of opportunities for hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, camping, ect.. Only giving it a 3 stars because I'm super disappointed by the sheer amount of poop I saw while walking along the trail, both human (I assume human because accompanied by toilet paper), and dog. My friend actually stepped in a pile that was directly in the middle of the trail. We went on a late Sunday afternoon and there were hundreds and hundreds of people I would never go back on the weekend ever. That being said it is a beautiful park with lots of land to explore, I'm just bummed my first experience was so poor.
Tara Canfield
We did enjoy ourselves, it is a beautiful and we'll maintained park. However it is very busy. If you are used to the quiet parks be prepared. It is a bit hectic with all the cars everywhere.
Ali Tahiri
Beautiful State Park
Something for everyone
Hear Walker's, trails, aerial walkway. Airboat rides, tram, canoe and kayak rentals. Nice gift shop and interesting cafe
Amanda Ortiz
This is such a pretty park to drive through. There are places you can get out to search for the alligators. We found them out by the lake. Saw some birds and deer as well
Will Meletzke
The Myakka River State Park is a beautiful state owned lake, with surrounding swamp land. There are several ways to see the swamp, but by far the best are the 60 passenger airboats. You are sure to see many different species of bird, as well as alligators abound. Fishing is also good on the lake, where there are no limits on the number of Tilapia one can take from the park. The winter season is the best time to come, but also the busiest.
April Hester
Wow what an amazing place..you can camp..bike ..take tours and just enjoy the beauty of nature. Check out the big gator that was there..at one time you could see 30 gators..and deer hidden in the flowers with a baby fawn
Candice Meador
This park is huge and beautiful! The tower was really fun to climb and the water was gorgeous. Bring a LOT of Water if you visit and be prepared to hike, hike, hike!
Chris E
Beautiful, not crowded and perfect weather the weekend after Thanksgiving. Restrooms near lake are well kept. Canopy walk and Tower is a must do. It's a 10-15 minute stroll from the parking area and there are benches where those who don't want to do the stairs can wait. Stop and walk over the bridge for alligator viewing.
Kara Morella
Beautiful interior state park. The trails are easily accessible and some are nice and short for children. Probably not the best place to go for a run, but for a stroll on a bike or a explore a trail for wildlife, this was great. Saw a lot of alligators and birds.
Ginger
Wonderful natural Florida park. Really great place to see alligators, snakes, turtles, fish, deer, and tons of birds.
scott wentworth
Really awesome park ...the tram and boat ride teaches you alot about the parks history and what's goin on there today . The wildlife is everywhere ....saw quite a few Gators in the nursery area ...really cool place
Elena Zehetbauer
Great Camping. Kids loved the trolly ride. Heaps of gators. Nice walking trails and board walks. Spend a couple of days there! Close to siesta beach.
Mike Zito
Great park for walking and wildlife.
Ken Turner
Spent a few days out there with the camper. Prices were reasonable, the views are amazing and the wildlife is really abundant. From hogs to deer to gator, they've got it all out there. Peaceful, yet wild. Good for a day trip to see some wildlife as it's only about 30 min from town.
Beth Okonczak
Such a beautiful oasis of nature among the over-developed Sarasota area! You will see crocodiles and many other animals in their natural habitat. So many great things to do! Be sure to pick up your map and list of 25 things to do when you arrive. And don't miss out on the canopy tension bridge walk! The tower is awesome!
Pat Young
Beautiful ! What a peaceful place,
we spent the whole day..many birds and even a raccoon 🦝,we could see that wild boar were prominent...
Cabins were quaint ,campgrounds were nice and the area with restaurant and vendors seemed very entertaining and happy for all...
Sus H
This is a beautiful state park with an excellent campground. This park has birdwatching, nature trails, wildlife viewing, biking and camping. We saw lots of alligators, turkeys (one with his tail feathers spread in an awesome display), hawks, and many other Florida birds. There is a nice gift shop with some necessary items and a food concession offering items including burgers, veggie burgers, gator bites, salads, muffins and ice cream. You can sit out on the raised deck with a view of the lake and watch alligators swim by. The campground has spacious, full hook-up site with vegetation for privacy that is rare in a campground. The pull through sites are huge. Facilities are clean. WiFi is only at the gift shop but Vetizon cell service is good.
Richard Fuerst
Myakka River State Park is an absolute gem. It's huge, beautiful, and close to nature. It's a photographer's Paradise for sure
Debbie G
One of the best parks in Florida I've visited. Beautiful park with lots of wildlife.
Thaddeus Casserly
You can take an airboat ride on the upper lake where chances are very good to get some good views of alligators. Then take the tram ride to learn the ecology and history of the park
Climb the canopy towers/walk to see a bird's eye view. A great day!
Matthew Raynor
Great place, there are a ton of alligators you can go and see south of the visitors center. Plenty of hiking trails. You can go kayaking and biking. I can’t wait to explore more of the park
David Yates
Well maintained, in the center of 80 mi of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. Quiet with lots of wildlife and water recreation.
Tyson Wallis
One of the best state parks I have ever been to. Check out the tram ride for a little history lesson, then walk the canopy.
alden cushman
$6 parking and miles of trails and lots of gators!!! The canopy trail is great 😃 …
Haile Brant
Definitely a cool park! Lots of places to bike, walk, run and watch wildlife. The campground is nice too, not too many people so not too loud or busy. My main issues were the only few days we were staying there, water maintenance was being completed and left the water with a boil water advisory. I understand maintenance must be done, but I don’t expect to have to boil the water to the hookups I am paying full price to have access to. As well, there is no laundry here, the camp store was closed the two times I tried to visit, as was the cafe, rentals office, boat tours and pretty much everything else they offer on their website. Overall it was a nice state park but not really functioning for campers at the moment. Must have come during the off season.
Chris Kelley
Great place to watch alligators. Also there was a boat tour of the lake. Very informative tour. The kind of place where you just want to play the song Suwannee River.
Randy Stauffer
Lovely trails and tons of wildlife. Excellent photo opportunities.
Christopher S Crawford
It's a lot of property in a lot of promise not quite very Informative and therefore not executed as well as it could be, but does have an awesome boat ride, a gift shop and a lil cafe center with alligators stew and alligator nuggets that are not chewy and pretty good
Louise Scott
I love going to Myakka State Park !! I have been going for family reunions for a day for many years, renting cabins and tent camping on weekends.. I always see wild life. Alligators Bald Eagles a lot of different birds, deer hogs ect... Are at the dam Great Blue Heron , Pink Inis feeding at the edge of the lakel
Barbara Trepal
Nice state park with tram and boat rides and alligators.🐊
A concession stand and picnic tables for your own picnic.
Rent bikes and canoes. …
Marla Summers
So much wildlife to see and trails to walk.
We love this park.
Marty Davis
Get out and explore. Always beautiful. Don't go if you only want the silly boat ride. Go for the hike and taking photos. This is the real adventure. Afraid to get your shoes wet, then get a prissy hotel instead.
April Hunter
This is the oldest park in Florida. It's a wonderful place to take the family. Lots of flora and fauna! Plus, who doesn't love a guided boat ride to view gators and get an educational experience. The boat Captains are amusing and informative. Don't forget to tip your Captain!!
Susan Whalen
Loved it except we got there too late to be able to do a whole lot of stuff. We still did a few key things like the bird walk up high and drove through a portion of the park to try and see more.
Franklin Perez
Very nice outdoor adventure, we liked the trails, very heavy healthy gators, flower flats. We had to enjoy this under "rain" the more natural.
art greenough
Awesome State Park, very well maintained. Staff were also very accomodating.
Mike A
Very well maintained, friendly staff, beautiful views, need some staff presence on the roads, had to advise some teenagers to leave two basking alligators alone that were in a small pond near the road... Highly recommend this at the top of a to do list when visiting the area.
b deheer
We loved this park. We, unfortunately, didn't get to stay as long as we would have liked. Did the deep hole trail and saw a bunch of alligators and a lot of birds. It's only $6 to visit.
marty wolf
Good place to go see alligators. They need to open some 4x4 trails.
Jess Stanfield
From the avid hiker to the play day picnic, this park has something for everyone.
Bring a camera & comfortable shoes.
Cindy P.
Very nice State Park. Boat and tram tours available. Check website for details.
Ray
So many trails and fun activities that anyone and any skill level can enjoy. Small park fee for entrance but there tours, hikes, kayak launch and rentals, horseback riding and the infamous photo Bridge.
M K
This place was really nice. It was not as busy as I thought it would be. Lots of different wildlife to see from Herons, to Alligators to Vultures. We took a boat ride and we were lucky enough to see an alligator. Nice place to go for a hike as well.
Alina WL
Great place to spend free time, bird watching, seeing alligators, kayaking, hiking.
Christen E
This park is absolutely beautiful. Fun for family picnics, scavenger hunts for kids and lots of animals to see. Alligators are very close to the road so be careful.
G P
Always a great place to see gators and birds/nature! It was a full day of boat tours and hiking. There is a cafe and clean restrooms. Camping and kayaking are also allowed.
Desiree Cochran-Norfolk
They have several walking trails, one has a swinging bridge and a lookout tower that is kind of terrifying because it sways. I got sea sick walking up it. But they have a viewer up there. Lots of scenic views. They have boat tours and you can rent bikes and canoes for personal use. There is camping on site as well. There is also a small museum at the entrance with a movie room and lots of local animals and plants on display with a few interactive things for kids. All in all we enjoyed it
Jeff Neven
This is an amazing place to get up close with alligators. Make sure you rent canoes, lift them over the dam and go down the river. The water levels were unfortunately low when we went so maybe call and ask before you plan to spend a day going down the river. There is also a fantastic lookout tower and rope bridge in the treetops.
Martin Armstrong
Had a great time with my son. The staff was friendly and even though they were short handed. We were only out in the canoe for an hour because it was so hot, but we had a great memorabile time. Will be back and maybe even camp here it looks like there lot of stuff to do!
Lisa Vaquera
Such a beautiful location! Definitely a favorite to go visit 😍 …
Adam Bailey
Great primitive camping and one of the most consistent places to see large Gators in the area.
Jim O'Connor
Prepare to be transported back to a time before Florida was over built and perhaps when earlier explorers trekked through this area. It's certainly a difficult place to leave!!!
Ronnie Coats
Best is to go early for the boat ride because the heat is rough in the afternoon. I've been a few times and every time I've seen gators, turtles, and various wildlife. The guides are friendly and crack as many dry jokes and you can stand.
Jon boy
What a wonderful place to see alligators, fish, birds, and Florida nature! It was a lot of fun.. they have pathways for driving and option for biking as well.
Leanna Robinson
Very nice experience. Will mention though we've been there 3 times this past year and every time the tram tour has been unavailable. Once because of weather which was understandable. The past two times because they do not have a driver currently. Would be nice if this was mentioned on their site.
Krishna Katakam
The cafeteria and gift shops were closed due to renovations and they had some stuff on sale from the gift shop on the patio. The trail is really muddy and I would greatly recommend some bug spray for your body. 3 out of 5 of my friends were bit by some sort of an insect.
Connor Hawkes
Trails were closed due to flooding and there were quite a few people about but you could still get away from everyone on some of the trails. The park itself is absolutely gorgeous, we went when it was around 68° F out and that weather seemed perfect, still a bit warm in the sun though.
Sabrina W
One of my favorite hangouts! Been here over 20+ times, it's a good place to see gators in the wild.
Pete Snow
I would give it 10 Stars if I could one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen it's wild like you'd expect Florida to be with a diversity of wildlife to observe
Taylor Hyde
Avoid going in the summer, as it floods and the Gators are all hidden underwater. The winter time is the best time to go for gator watching. But you can always go anytime for birdwatching. It's also a great place for fishing. You can see all of the park in one morning if you don't have all day.
Neida Cruz
Very nice place to bike ride or drive the park is big and full of animals.
Tom Brian
Myakka River State Park is a wilderness park where you can drive through on a 7 mile long road from the south entrance to the north entrance for a $ 6.- fee per vehicle. There are several picnic areas with bbq's, benches and tables. You can see deers, alligators, raccoons and all kind of birds.
Sue Batisto
Park is huge. Unfortunately this park sustained a lot of damage from hurricane Ian and several of the attractions were closed. If your thinking about going call ahead to see what is open when you visit.
Amanda Sullivan
Very beautiful park, seen gators, raccoons, dear & many birds, the park ranger is nice & very helpful. I do not advise to bring dogs to a place you know has gators. Will be back.
Stephan Hassenpflug
Nice park but the boat tour was not worth it. Didn't see a lot of animal and ... it was just not so interesting.
The park looks great. Bring your own Picknick,
Parker Cobb
Great views. The guy doing the boat tour was very repetitive, he kept mentioning the same things over and over again, sounding like a broken record even though it was a live tour.
David Londono
Very beautiful place to visit. Only problems we saw were first, to much trash and garbage on the floor and second, we found 4 baby turtles smashed by cars on the floor. People you guys need to be more careful and keep your eyes opened.
Ken Horkavy
An amazing park . Bring your water boots for September rains if you want to hike. Great space!!
Bill Bowling
A must-see if you're in the area. Lots of trails and a beautiful place to spend a day or camp for many days
Dionne Butler
The hiking is so beautiful here. We had a lovely picnic near the water and then did the canopy walk. They did knock down the little gazebo that was in the back and all the alligators we would usually see back there sunning themselves were all gone, so that was really disappointing.
Cait
Starts at $4 admission per vehicle. Great wildlife, lots of trails, gators, birds and more. Very cool place to explore.
Shay Love
Great park to get away and escape the world around you. Didnt get to see many alligators since it was so hot but had a great time on the trails.
Jason McFarland
Such a beautiful park. My family and I go here all the time. Great fishing, hiking, canoeing and lunch spot. One of these days we'll camp here as well.
Rebecca Burden
Great family fun time. Walked 4 miles, saw gators, deer, a soft shell turtle laying her eggs. Awesome experience
Elissa
Everything here is so beautiful. I recommend bringing bug spray, sunscreen, and snacks. It's a fairly large park so plan to walk a lot!
Shauniece Lee
Stayed a few nights in the cabins visited the cafe often the staff was amazing Mary, Vy, and Jessi. The rangers are more than wonderful and will answer any questions. Grounds and immaculate and so were the cabins.
Daniel Herbert
The reason I can't give a FL State Park campground with full hookups, beautiful suroundings, full hookups, great nature trails, and alligators is because internet service from AT&T, Verizon absolutely terrible. It is worse than being in a third world nation.
james sampson
Very enjoyable. We got in a lot of bike riding. Deer, aligators and even a place to stop for a beer. The Palmetto Ridge camping area we stayed at was excellent with paved roads, stone driveways and extremely clean.
Mint Leaf
Canopy walk, deer, racoon, majestic owl, alligator, lots of birds beautiful lake, next time we are going to rent a cabin for the weekend.
Richard “Rick” Georges
Beautiful natural Florida at its best. One of oldest Florida State Parks. Built 1934.
KH Autry
Beautiful park with lots to see and explore for people of all ages. Abundance of wildlife at every turn.
Donna Kehoe
Skip the airboat. Try the land tour. The airboat consists of loading onto a barge-like boat. 3 seats each side of a center aisle. About 100 people. The tour leaves every 15-30 minutes, 10 am to 2 pm. Listening to the captain is interesting as you very slowly cross the lake. Make a short trip up then down along the shore, look at the alligators and slowly return to the dock. Tip your captain. $15/adult. $6/car. There is a snack bar and gift shop. I didn't think it was worth it since we saw alligators on the banks of the river where the bridge is. (Inside the park, on the road leading to the airboat tour)
Ted Stevenson
Its s beautiful park with lots of animals and wildlife. Be aware of the awesome gators. Each year we have gone we witness someone doing something stupid like trying to take a selfie with a gator.
David Almakiz
such a beautiful state park, filled with a lot of greenery and fun trails. The canopy bridge was a fun thing to check out. Definitely a great place for the family or to come if you are a nature buff! Found a young boar skull off trail! And saw some live ones too!
Rick Magee
When I was living in Sarasota, I visited this Beautiful State Park many times. Great hiking trails and canoeing ventures. Park is teeming with wildlife photo opportunities including gators! Recommend y'all plan a visit to it.
Katie Wyatt
Fun place to go if you want to see Florida's wildlife. Beautiful birds such as Osprey, Bald Eagles and Blue Herrings as well as tons of alligators to watch. Try taking the air boat at 9 am when it's cool out to really see the alligators. The bird walk is also a beautiful place to visit. The park is cheap and it's also a great place to camp. I visit every summer.
Jonathan Brumfield
This is a great park. Log cabins, boat tours, canopy walk, and alligators everywhere. Love this place.
Robert Diana
Great kayaking but they only allow 28 hikers and kayakers total to keep nature clean. They also have camping.
Brian Dykeman
What a great place to see wildlife! The canopy walk is fun too, though I wish it was a little longer. Overall, it's a beautiful place to see the wonders of Florida wildlife.
angel mercer
We went out on the 12 o'clock tour today and had the privilege of having Captain Matthew who made the tour fun. We will definitely be back and will recommend the park to others.
Rosalie Coddington
A gorgeous and wild park. Tons of wildlife. Walk in the tree canopy across a suspension bridge to a 75 foot high tower. Beautiful views. All levels of trails and hikes. You can bike most all of the park. Plenty of natural areas to explore. Picnic pavillions and restrooms . Pontoon boat tours of the upper lake. So much to see and do.
Danae Bell
Great nature experience for the kids. Even my 5 year old and 18 month old liked the boat tour. We saw several alligators, lots of bids, and we enjoyed the canopy tower.
Mark Hasse
Spend the day, did some short hikes, rode the pontoon across the lake, saw alligators. Cafe/gift shot closed for remodeling, there was a food truck.
sharlene brown
The park is beautiful and well-maintained. I was in the company of family members ranging from three years to early 50s and everyone had a great time. The kids rode their bikes and then we all took a short hike. The food at the restaurant was fresh and good. No complaints from the kids.
Beth Moore
Such a nice State Park. My grandkids loved the trails and the tower, not to mention seeing alligators too!!
Axel Burger
Amazing park, beautiful trails and walks. Close to nature, you'll see a big variety of animals and plants. The drive is pretty scenic if you don't want to / can't walk. Parking is plentiful, and toilets are clean throughout the park.
Russell McCloud
The park has a variety of things to do or you can slowly drive though and enjoy and observe the wild life.
Kimberly Erickson
Currently very flooded so the canopy walk isn’t accessible. However, it’s still a very pretty and nice place to spend an afternoon. It’s also full of alligators!

Beautiful, peaceful, fun, boat ride takes fewer people now because of covid ,gift shop closed but there is a truck there for food ,beer, drinks
Justin Grant
Was a fun experience for our family. It was very hot outside and we were drenched at times but that's our own fault for going in the middle of June, lol. Otherwise, the park was well-kept! We stayed in a primative location (tent and absolutely no cell reception) and the grounds itself was pleasant. Restrooms were convenient and super clean. Convenience of having a fresh shower was grand! Will definitely return.... once the weather cools down a bit.
Jason Fair (Nomadic Nerd Project)
We got to see Alligators! That made the park visit a highlight. The place is busy, pretty, and a joy to visit.
Terry H.
Great state park. Plenty of wildlife to watch during a leisurely drive. Too many alligators to count. Birds galore including herons, egrets, Sandhill cranes, ibis, rosette spoonbills, avocets, etc. Definitely worth visiting!
Tom Jahn
Very easy place to watch tons of Gators in their natural environment. The boat tour is highly recommended, as the narration and tour guide is very informative and had a few good "dad jokes".
Charlotte hookins
Love this park ! Saw a family of raccoons, mum and 4 babies , a giant alligator and just lively there and great for bird watching
Ben Trifilo
Wonderful park for hiking, biking and camping. Tram and boat tours are currently running and lots of fun! Hit the bathrooms when able because they are far apart.
Linda Bentley
Always great place to see alligators and a huge variety of water birds, including the beautiful roseate spoonbills.
Sally Sperry
This time of year is quiet and lovely. A boat ride with great history and explanation. All fun, all nature, all worth it.
Andrea Willman
Staff were cheerful and friendly. The coffee shop at the gift shop makes really great sandwiches. November was probably not the best time to go for bird sighting but we still had to stop our car for some wild turkeys and saw a number of Roseate Spoonbill. Oh, and big gators out on the lake.
Keep an eye out for tiny deer too.
Aleatha Romig
The park is beautiful. The ticketing procedure is ridiculous. We arrived at noon. The 1 PM boat tour was sold out. We understood and once we reached the ONE open ticket window after standing in the sun for 30 minutes (it's now12:30), we asked to get tickets for the 3 PM tour. We were told return to the line at 1 PM, that tickets couldn't be sold until 2 hours before. We walked away and discussed the tram ride. There was one at 2:30. While in line AGAIN, we hear the woman mention that the are only 17 tickets remaining for the 3 PM boat tour. What? How can that be the case if we can't purchase until 1 PM? Apparently, you can buy earlier if you purchase BOTH boat and tram. (Option wasn't mentioned to us) So I asked for the 3 PM boat and 4:30 tram. To which I was told that they wanted us to do the 5 PM boat because if we did the 3 PM it would be closer to selling out. Seriously? I've never seen a more ridiculous system and rude ticket people. We did the 2:30 tram. We saw alligators. I don't plan on returning. Shame because we had great memories of it from years ago.
Katie Farris
We took our kids and they enjoyed all the little nature trails. We weren’t in time for a boat ride but we went out on the bird outlook and the view was gorgeous. We saw deer and alligators. My kids spent the most time climbing and crossing the nature suspension bridge.
Kelly Kirby
Wonderful day trip for the whole family. The canopy bridge is a must see, lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery. Nice little restaurant.
Raquel V
Always a recommend place to visit! Lots of wild life and several activities to do as well. Admission is only $6.
Success is in your conversation.
What a great day!!! Lots of gators, birds and winding river. Beautiful! And still a little challenging with currents. If you haven't kayaked Myakka it's great fun and there were almost no other people on the river. Highly recommended. ~Steve Sapato the most famous unfamous speaker and speaking trainer in America

One of my favorite places in Florida. When it’s off season, it’s so serene. You will almost guaranteed see a gator. I love to come and just stare out at the water or at passing gators. You can hear the wild boars in the distance, too. It feels otherworldly.
Simonne Smith
Always lots to see and do! This is our 5th time here. This time we did the river walk.Saw alligators and many birds!
Tammie Howe
Really nice park with lots of trails and wildlife. Today we saw wild boar and birds. Last trip we saw alligators, but the water levels were too high this trip.
John Canon
Did the airboat ride, excellent this time of year. Saw lots of alligators and the boat Captain has an awesome narration. Don't go in the summer months you will see no alligators; it is too hot on the water surface for them.
Dawn Taylor
Loved the boat ride and viewing nature. Would love to walk the trails next time.
Jack Johnston
I have been here before many years ago but it seems so different . (This place is Great .) Clean Spacious campsites, many Clean restrooms , plenty of wildlife (with some of the Largest Gators I have ever seen) Eagles, Deer and much more, Opportunity's for hiking , biking, paddling and a place to eat with BEER what more could you ask for. Like Arnold said I'll be Back.
Exploration Florida
Great park to canoe and hike, however bring water because you can get lost out there on these trails.

We had a blast with the kids and the grandson, alligators all over a couple we could get really close to.
Martina Hooper
Awesome day trip. Loved seeing the deer, gators and large variety of coastal birds in their natural, "real Florida" environment.
Lindsay Lesley
Great place to visit. Deer, wild pigs, alligators, and tons of birds. Absolutely beautiful near sunset.
Rachel Tuuk
Had a wonderful time exploring this park. Lots to see, full of wildlife!
Carl Rinck (CR)
Great day. Really nice boat ride with narration by the Capt. Very entertaining.
Brock Cannon
Not as pretty in my opinion as OS state park but still a nice spot
linda gregg
Had a great time! Clean and lots of trails! Saw a few alligators too!
doug ducko
Many animals to see bring a bicycle preferably an electric one cover more area see more stuff
Alyssa Kilzer
Had a nice time backpacking. Everything seems well maintained however I was bummed that everywhere I went in the park I could hear cars on the highway and see tower lights at night. I also had cell service 90% of the time. Not sure if thats a good thing or not
Zayda 412
Loved everything about this place. Seen so many deer, birds and squirrels. A few gators but heard to see more gators go at night. Found cool snail shells and climbed the tower.
Adam Riley
Really fun and exciting place to go to witness Florida's natural wildlife. Gators, many different birds, otters and bobcat are common sitings at Myakka River SP.
Gail B
Fun place to explore. We were lucky to see a few alligators. Don't forget your binoculars!
Alexandra DeSouza
My husband and I visited for the first time this passed weekend. We were more than please. Driving through the park was stunning, let alone exploring it on foot. The grounds and facilities were well maintained and the staff was very friendly. We took a guided boat tram and our guide was hilarious. We ate at the cafe: FANTASTIC! Then we walked the Canyon Nature Trail to the observation tower; WHAT A VIEW! Then walked an adjoining trail, identifying plant life. All-in-all it was a splendid day!
Jessica Harris
Beautiful park!!! We went on the tram ride, which was very informational and interesting. The canopy is amazing also!! Will be visiting again sometime.
Kari Gill
Such a cool place! We saw lots of alligators, and the canopy walk was amazing!
Brian McLean i Eyre
Well worth a visit. Take a little extra time to explore, even if only by car, after taking the boat trip. New attractions coming.
Charles Cox
Great state park. stayed for two but would have stayed more it it wasn't for booking congestion. Plenty of things to do, and see.
Aj Casa
Great family state park very clean bathrooms friendly staff lots of things to do , some of the older camp sites can use an uplift, lots of wild life.
Alyssa G
Beautiful! Absolutely worth the trip! $6 entrance which is used for the park but so so worth it
BILL WRIGHT
Myakka is one of the best spots in Florida. Today we were Geocaching with the Grandkids. There are over 200 caches in Myakka. It was a big, bad, beautiful day!
Rob Roth
Super cool place to paddle around with a cool restaurant attached with live music most of the time.
Angela Stewart
A Truly unique experience where you can see alligators and birds in their natural settings. Be sure to go to the tower!!
Brian DTX
Beautiful state park with all manner of Florida wildlife and plants to see. Start with a look through of the visitors center with examples of animals that make the park home. The 4 or 5 short videos are informative. After that there is a road through the park out to a restaurant and gift shop. While driving we got out to see alligators (from a safe distance), armadillos and many species of birds. A highlight is the canopy walk which puts you above the trees for some great pictures.
Angela Nieves
Loved this state park but especially the large, full hook up campsites in Palmetto Ridge Campground!
Lindsey Houston
Very pretty park! Signage so you know when you're going and what trails you're going to be going on aren't very well make though.
Christina McNeair
The website advertises the park as having a canopy walkway, it has a one way bridge and a look out tower that is 76 feet up that is it. The park is in the prairie area so it is very low laying land. Lots of gator signs to remind people that they are out and about. Take bug spray, be on the look out. Beautiful view on the tour.
Patty Hayes
Awesome park. Seen a lot of deer, wild turkeys and wild pigs. Plenty to see and do there! This park is huge! The restrooms are clean just need to be updated. Bicycling is just beautiful. Camping is really great nice shaded sites! Fun for the young and old! Will be back to camp longer! Absolutely beautiful!
HufflemyPuff Siriusly
Absolutely beautiful and the canopy walk was super cool. The kids loved getting to walk across in the tree tops
Melissa Sexton
Shaded, pet-friendly trails perfect for a nice afternoon walk. Abundant alligator sightings from the bridge. Tram and airboat tours available, along with canoe and bike rentals.
Lanae Duchesneau
You can always see an alligator here. And make sure you do the bird watching in the tree tops. You climb up the tower and you walk across this bridge that sways in the wind and you are actually above the trees. It was so fun. And walked by the water and see all the alligators. Nice place to bring company and people who are visiting.
Brian DuCharm
A great place to cycle for novice or anyone wanting a connection to nature. Will be back many more times.
Kayla
I seen this on Instagram and decided to visit. It was pretty. The grass and Florida warmth is always a plus. I would just say the tower to climb is not as exciting as the photos. Amazing view though. I would recommend coming just to see the lake, birds, and the flower fields. If your coming for the tower mainly… the top has a telescope to view but you need to bring a quarter with you lol. Only $6 to get in!
Barbara Cole
We have been to Myakka State Park twice both times were wonderful especially sharing one of the visits with our granddaughter!
Colleen Till-Nitz
The short hike on the canopy walk trail is one of the coolest parts of the park. Very fun for all ages.
Reynolds Huard
Great park! Be careful though, the boat rides sell out VERY fast! The boat rides take about an hour and take you all around the lake. The canopy and nature walks are very pretty! In all, a great experience!
Thomas Mareci
One of the best State of Florida parks. The gators are great and the birds are outstanding. The campsites are fine and there are many trails for hiking and biking.
Esha D.
My favorite state park, so unique and peaceful. Next time I'll set up camp!
Bob Hartman
We saw a family of 3 deer, tons of alligators while kayaking the Myakka River. Caught a bass on river. So much to do!!!
Kim Kennedy
This is a truly beautiful park with lots of things to see and do. We see deer every single day, within feet of us. I saw a flock of 22 turkeys today! lol the landscape is truly majestic and the staff here are wonderful. If you’re camping I highly recommend the Palmetto Ridge grounds, the drive through sites are awesome and the bath houses are very clean and cared for. We have been here without worry about our safety, it’s quiet and peaceful
And an overall great experience. If you will be camping in a tent, you’ll be in the campground towards the back called Big Flats, this wasn’t my fav spot to be because it’s the oldest campsite in the park and the bathhouses show it’s age. It’s still clean as it can be, it’s just old and old only comes so clean. The sites in big flats are all dirt sites and no privacy so you’re pretty close to your neighbors. If you’re in an rv or rig definitely try to reserve sites in Palmetto ridge instead. It’s gravel and much easier to deal with. There are two bath houses in Palmetto ridge, there’s coke machines at both as well as a washer and dryer and even a small community library at each bath house for trading books, magazines and sometimes even movies. Oh, also PM campground has FULL hookups including sewer at every site. This is great of course!
The fishing is great, photography is phenomenal and the staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
My one and only complaint is the food at the food truck. And I hate to say it because the guys inside the food truck are great but $10 for nachos and nearly $7 for one funny colored not so good hotdog, is crazy. But hey, bring food with you and you’ll be golden. This park is kinda out there so it’s about 8-10 miles to the nearest gas station and if you’re in big flats add three more miles because it’s literally 3 miles from the front gates and you will not be going over 20mph during that 3 miles so plan ahead if you need to be somewhere on time.
Overall it’s a great place to stay that’s safe and clean, reasonably priced and absolutely stunning!
Enjoy!!!
fl days
Great place to view wildlife early in the am and evening 👌 …
Natasha Rivera
The reason for the 3 🌟 was because I couldn't get a good feel of the place almost all the good spot were flooded and closed …
eric webb
Very nice state park. It's one of the largest I have seen. The first bridge is a nice spot to see alligators. Right after that is a short hike for the canopy walk, would recommend. If you drive past the canopy, stay to the left you will reach the lake area. The left side by the outpost is a dirt trail, take this trail to a river and will see lots of wildlife! The north gate is lock most of the time, make sure you exit out south side
Corrie Cooley
Myakka is nice but it's not near a city so cell reception is lacking. You can kayak in the park but beware of alligators. There is a grill and a gift shop to browse.
Ray Ribaric
Great state park with excellent biking opportunities and hiking trails. Sorry to see the old airboat replaced with the new boats. They have excellent campground facilities especially in the new area.
Joanne LaRocque
Very fun place to visit. Need to come back for sure!!!
Pamela Fed
A Great Experience!!! This place is getting added to the schedule. You will enjoy
Glenn Pritchard
Lots to do here - from boating, hiking, wildlife, camping. Enjoy!
Franziska Williamson
Lovely park. We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem. We saw alligators and several types of birds while strolling in different parts of the park. There are boat and tram tours and we plan to return in the future to purchase the combo tickets for both. After walking a canopy trail we climbed the observation towers and walked across the suspension bridge connecting the two. They also have canoe and bike rentals and an on-site food truck and souvenir shop. Our fee into the park of $6.00 for the 2 of us was a bargain. A wonderful afternoon!
H Dye
Teens went out on an adventure camp with their high school friends and teachers today. Picked up litter on their four mile hike down one of the trails. Saw dozens of gators sunning themselves and families of boars in the grassy area.
K. Zoe Partyka
Alligators and a canopy walk. When you go in the summer, be sure to bring the bug spray. There is camping here as well in select areas. Location not too far from the water either, but just far enough away that you aren't in the city. Love love love coming here.
Jonathan Henderson
Beautiful park, excellent camping for tent, RV, or trailer. No phone signal in certain areas, and don't forget sunscreen/bug spray.
It was nice to be disconnected from the world for a few days. The camping was awesome. I will definitely be back.
Nancy Lopez
This is a must do if you want to see authentic FL. Just go!
Patrick Hayden
The best part was the hike to the Deep Hole pond that was full of 50-60 alligators and some birds. This is all outside of the main park area. Take sunscreen and lots of water. Its a 2.2 mile per way hike in a prarie with no shade. You must get a permit first from them and they only give out 30 permits per day. The main park area is just a lake that is very low and some hiking trails. I didn't try the nature walk and tree canopy walkway, that's probably nice.
Peter Sayles
Great park lots of deer, gators, hawks, wading birds, nice sites where we are, modern bathrooms but AC would be nice when it's 91° in October.
Chris
This park has a lot to offer! Kayaking, trails, plenty of places to setup a picnic along with a large number of camping and primative camping spots. I highly recommend visiting this park!
Martina Hooper
Great day experience. We saw deer, gators, and lots of coastal birds.
Kelly McKay
Beautiful park. A few nice short trails and a lot of large day-hikes. Numerous wildlife to be seen and especially alligators!
Ravenspy
Such a beautiful place away from the beaches of Florida. If you ever get a chance to simply drove through, I strongly suggest you do.
mike robb
Apart from the cold "welcome" at the gate I would recommend this park to everyone. Lots of birds and alligators for all to see. Good facilities and adventures for all.
Jolima Caballero-solis
38,000 acres. very pretty. we really enjoyed the canopy walk
Kyle Burns
Gentlemen who run the tours have us a great experience on the boat. We had a blast spending an hour looking at the wildlife. In many cases, guides talk too much or are annoying. This guide was very knowledgeable and was very pleasant. Almost without fail, I would have a question and before I could ask it the gentleman would already have that question answered before I could even ask it. Amazing!
Christopher Andersch
The overhead walk is great for spotting birds, and the park is full of animals that come out at dusk, lots of deer ,and hogs, and of course alligators
Cooper Farley
I loved this park it really showed what Florida is really about. I saw alligators, birds , lizards and fish overall I had a great time and I think you should go to.
Rick Bracewell
This Florida State Park will take you back in time there's no telling what type of wildlife you're going to see it when you're at this state park I want thing I know for sure you're going to Florida alligator nice camping areas for tent or RVs so if you're on the west coast of Florida it's a must to stop here even just to visit for a day
Norm Johnson-Korbuly
Lots of spoonbills alligators and feral hogs. . I really enjoyed the pontoon boat trip and hiking around the trails.
Lucille D. Duern
Such a fun day with the fam. Ride bikes walk or drive thru the park. Bird watch on the pier and tons of hiking trails!! Worth the price for a car load.
Jeffrey Kloss
Third time here and saw things for the first time. Boat ride was informative. The tower view is worth the cliimb.
Graham Williamson
Love this place soooo much. Infact I am staying there again this weekend. Nature is abundant. You can fish as well. The walks are awesome. I will add another review when I get back home. Hugsss
Tony L
Holy cow this place is awesome!!! Just gorgeous! Plus you can see Alligators!
Nick Strawser
Beautiful park! Bike rentals were great except for my chain popping off, luckily I could put it back on. Other than that everything was fantastic! We even saw some wild pigs!
Johna DeVoe
Had a great visit. Another wonderful Florida State Park.
Megan Udinski
Beautifully peaceful with lots to do.
Dèverouxë
Certainly a above average state park with plenty of gators and birds. Definitely worth going a little out of the way to go to… (They also have boat tours, tram tours, and a decent gift shop/café)
Steve Jones
If you want to see alligators in their natural habitat, this is the place! Spectacular!
Michelle Lapp
Oh my Lord I have so many memories of Myakka State Park.Going Horse back riding with my friends and family when I was younger and camping was something I'll always remember. Its a wonderful place for the whole family to make lasting memories.I just turned 50 and I'm headed that way again, can't wait ☺️. It's a great place for hiking, camping...everything- something for everyone...and the park rangers are so awesome at what they do... because they LOVE what they do...THANK YOU
