Reviews of Hillsborough River State Park
Rich Dugger
Went for a day hike, did about 10 miles of the trails. Really enjoyed the river. There are simple trails that allow you to see the rapids, while small, the bubbling water flowing over the rocks is pretty cool and rare for this area. These can be seen on a short hike without doing a long-distance hike. I would say less than five minutes from the parking along the road. A ranger at the entrance can direct you if that is what you want to see. There are very nice boardwalks and paths along the river in this area. Very user friendly and very scenic.
There are other areas with bathrooms, camping etc. We only hiked the trails. Going over the suspension bridge was a very fun experience. The water was much clearer than I anticipated. We saw a good many fish, and there were many alligators to see too.
The trails were clear enough to follow, and not so wide as to feel like you were hiking on a road. Doing the longest portion that goes past the route to the primitive camping we only saw one other set of hikers. I enjoyed this area greatly as we saw some huge oaks and the portion that runs along the river gave a real glimpse at a river in a very natural state.

This state park gives you the best parts of natural Florida. It is exceptionally well maintained, and trails are easy to navigate and follow. There is a playground for kids, and my son loves it. There is bountiful wildlife to see here- this past trip we saw lots of turtles and an unusual amount of red shouldered hawks. There is really good tree cover for most of the trails, so it is one of the better trails to undertake during the summertime.

Me and my husband went camping for a couple of days here. Beautiful park with lots of hiking areas near river. Well maintained and lots to see. Both primitive and RV camping available with water and power hookups. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Very peaceful when we were there. Can't wait to go back.

Visited on Saturday 7/9/22 with my wife and kids (13/10/8). we only hiked the Rapids Trail, which was excellent. The trail was well maintained and dry, which was a surprise as storms had gone through the night before. We saw wildlife (birds, fish, alligators) and the rapids and riverbank are unique sights for the area. Will definitely return to hike the other trails (probably without kids!) and enjoy the huge swimming pool when it reopens in 2023.

Incredible park, the trails are manicured enough to walk but not so much that it makes you feel like it’s too humanized. I came here really wanting to see an alligator and on the way out we were able to see one swimming in the river. The water is crystal clear, you can see TONS of fish swimming around. There were some incredible birds as well and some turtles. Out of our 7 day trip to Tampa this was definitely one of the best places we went.

My family and I spent our Easter morning exploring this gorgeous state park! You definitely need mosquito repellent, but that's true for all of Florida.
The trails were easy for our elderly dog and my son enjoyed the playground.

Absolutely love routine hikes here for myself or a day out with the family.
Loads of Scenery and Nature to enjoy to include the Class 2 rapids. The bridge is an absolute gem. Just explore!! Enjoy the park, keep it as you found it because it's beautiful 😍 …
Chris Lowe
Hiked the Seminole Trail. Great little hike! I went clockwise and the first half of the hike follows along the river. Some really great views and not that many people. The suspension bridge was cool. Seen a few fish down in the water. Mostly Plecos. I went back and looked at the primitive campsites. There are 4 sites. It's a nice open, clean area with fire pits and each site.

This was a 10/10 Saturday adventure for us!!!! 🌞🌿🌳🍄🐊🕷we enjoyed the walk from the suspension bridge all the way through the Seminole trail. It’s such an easy trail for any first time Trail Blazers. If you’re going in the summer….I suggest you plan for the heat and pack water. I love how the trail is colored coated (with tree markings) the entire way so you’re sure not to get lost; Also numbered posts can be seen as you continue to walk with emergency info instructions if needed. Throughout the trail you’re sure to come across and see birds, squirrels, spiders, beautiful plants and trees, wild mushrooms, mud, and different bodies of water including the river. If you’re lucky you may see a gator off in the distance in the water. The suspension bridge is a MUST! The park also offers canoeing, camping, and has a pool, which should be opening again next year. Don’t litter and have fun! This state park is a gentle reminder how beautiful old Florida truly is. I highly recommend.

Great campground with showers, laundry facility, playgrounds, picnic tables and grills, pavilions... Easy and hard trails... You'll see alligators, lots of turtles, a few hawks flying around, and if you're up late you'll see the racoons come out.
Lots of camping sites for RVs and tents, each with picnic table, fire pit, electric and potable water (though I bought water out of vending machines for drinking)...
Pool, cafe & fort all closed... Gov. Desantis likes to brag about budget surplus, well he has a surplus cause he's NOT taking care of our State Parks (along with a few other things I won't mention here!!!)

Visited this state park today and loved it. I kayaked and fished the river for a few hours. This park has everything, kayaking, camping, hiking, a pool, facilities, ranger station, small shop. The river has bass! I hooked into one and it spit the hook on me. The river is flowing with wildlife, gators too!! Very scenic and easy to paddle against the current. The kayak launches are easy to access. The rapids are protected, so no kayaking the rapids.

Hillsborough River is a breathtaking Park here in Tampa Bay. It's the closest place to get away from the hustle and bustle. It's a great place to relax and view all kinds of wildlife. The river has rock waterfalls up and down the river. Great hiking trails for nature lovers. A really nice playground with shaded picnic area.
To get the full experience of the Hillsborough River It's great to either kayak or canoe down the river. There you will see even more wildlife. Perfect place to get away from it all. They're also tent RV camping grounds at $25 a night with showers a market The entrance for the park is $6. And presently the kids pool is closed until 2024
Steph Steph
A very large and lovely park I went to about two weeks prior. It's so massive that it's worth the $6 per car entrance fee; you can bring a lunch and spend a whole day exploring it. I myself only saw about 1/3 of the park. As well as the river, suspension bridges, and beautiful flora, there are painted turtles, alligators you can see, and plenty of other animals. It's the perfect spot for a longer nature walk!
Doug Fallin
Large expansive park in a lush forest along the river. Older park which shows its age. Massive swimming pool that will be closed till 2024. One bridge closed indefinitely, according to the posting. Not much privacy at campground. Sites 65 and 67 are excellent. Hiking, biking, canoeing, and relaxing are activities. Camp store closed. Ranger station closed when I arrived at 3pm. Just went straight to my site.
Jay Karsevar
Great short trails with lots of scenery and an occasional gator. Trails are dotted with roots and uneven surfaces, so be mindful of your footing. We didn't get to hike the 3 mile trail, but look forward to exploring it soon.
Sagnik Mukherjee
Very serene and beautiful area. It's a collection of four or so trails, and there is a large picnic/playground area near parking lot 3. $6.00 for cars with multiple people, $4.00 for cars with single occupants, $2.00 for cyclists/pedestrians. Definitely worth it.
Cory Ring
Great place to see a traditional Florida wildlife setting. Nice hiking trails through the park. Be sure to check out the suspension bridge. Dawn to dusk, 3 dollars a person to enter.
Dusty R
Took the Seminole trail, which is over 3 miles plus a bit more to get to the trail itself. Lovely walk along the river, and as with any moist habitat, there is poison ivy along the trail, so stay on the footpath. The last third of the trail was muddy and submerged for quite a ways. It might be a common occurrence as I heard from one hiker that it was like that the last time he was here, too. So be prepared to do it wet, or maybe go halfway, turn back at the giant tree, and enjoy the riverside twice.
GOLD SUN
We camped here in August 22. Ok campground. The bathrooms were very dingy. Showers were disgusting. The sights were nice and spacious. No privacy. Not much vegetation between sights. Saw a few GATORS in the water.
angela koehler
The campground at Hillsborough River State Park was full, so we stopped in for a bike ride around the park. The sites are a sandy-dirt mix and comfortably spaced. It had rained earlier in the week and some spots looked to have ruts from previous campers. The park offers a few “glamping” tents across from one of the bathhouses. The facilities were very old, rusty, in need of paint/maintenance, but as clean as could be expected. A few of the sites were bordered by a marshy area that may flood after heavy rains (look beyond the split rail fence in the photo). Worse than the midday line for the dump station was the line to enter the park on a Sunday afternoon in January. Without exaggeration there were 20+ vehicles, several of which were rigs coming into the park on a narrow one lane road. This is a beautiful park, but timing is everything and the weekend during high season is not the time to visit.

Great spot for camping, hiking, and/or kayaking/canoeing. This is now one of my favorite state parks! The online booking system I used to pre-book a camping spot was easy to use (go to FL State Parks). Check in is at 3 and check out is at 1 and the restrooms and other amenities were kept extremely clean. The camping spot came with a picnic table, fire pit, outlets, and water source. It was a very quiet, serene place to go camping and I had a lot of fun there as a solo camper. There are 5 different trails to go on if you are not interested in camping and a place to go kayaking/canoeing with rentals. I highly recommend to any outdoor enthusiast!
Kurinji Sathasivam
This state park has some nice trails with beautiful views. Wear bug spray because the trails by the river are absolutely swarming with mosquitoes! We didn't see any alligators, which was a bit disappointing.
Derar (Reviewer)
Very nice park. I have been to this park few times, one of them was for camping. Camp sites are nice but unfortunately most of them are open to each other (i.e., no privacy). I have been to other parks for camping where your site is kind of surrounded by wood. Anyway, experience was positive overall. Multiple activities are available in this site such as kayaking and trail walking. I recommend this park for sure.
Fatima Elmcharfi
Absolutely love this park!! Can’t wait to visit again. The squirrels wanted to steal my subway sandwich and that just made me want to hug them (no worries, I did not!!). There’s good fish spots, playgrounds, a pool, canoes and bikes for rent too! Oh and the admission fee is 6 dollars for a car with two to eight people.
Christopher Johnson
Excellent park and the Seminole Trail is a great 3 mile loop. It is mostly shaded and easy to follow. Eager to get back and explore the rest of them.

My husband and I enjoyed our walk at this state park. We did a good 45 minutes of walking. The suspension bridge was very cool, but we were disappointed not to see any gators. The tables were a bit rusted and dirty looking to sit and eat at, and it would be good if they were cleaned and maintained properly. It was cool to see the River rapids. I recommend coming earlier in the day and not close to closing so you have sufficient time to walk the trail and to leave before it gets dark. I’d come here again with the hubs for a picnic.
Rosalie B
Super beautiful parc! Recommend to park the cat at parking area 2 (P2), because that is the most beautiful trail. It is next to the water and you have wonderful view over the Hilborough river". My favorite trail was the "rapids trail". I love how this parc is mainly in the shade, so on a hot day you can still go hiking!
Will Duff
From miles of trails, multiple recreation areas and scenic vistas, this park has it all. I thoroughly enjoyed hiking the trail along the river while taking in the views of the small rapids and taking the suspension bridge across to continue my hike on the other side of the river. Even on a Saturday, the park was quiet and offered lush shade throughout my hike. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a nice Florida hike that's something different from the marshes, slash pines, swamp and beaches that the state typically offers. And it's not too far from Lakeland or Tampa if you are looking for a bite or somewhere to continue your adventure after your hike.
laura nunez
Peaceful place, pet friendly. Several trails for different level hikers. Also have a kayak and Canoe launch for an afternoon in the river. Just watch out for gators 😉 …
Zach Ivey
This is probably my favourite place to go that's is not too far of a drive. Trails are great the pool is nice and it's a wonderful place to camp and make memories.

Outstanding adventure! Second visit in 2 weeks. Trails are great. Bring your bike. Bring your kayak/canoe. Pool set to reopen 2023. No rentals available at this time.
ZRinaldi
Very nice, lots of scenic views, and trails were easy to keep track of. Lots of little mini footpaths too to see some amazing trees and the river. It was hard to keep track of pricing, but i payed $4 for myself on a Sunday. Payed by car i believe

Scenic park with lots of trails. We only did the rapids trail and it was beautiful. The suspension bridge was cool. We saw one alligator on the way. The park has lots of other amenities like canoe, kayaking, camping ground and pool. Although pool was closed. There is a small playground which was good. Restroom besides it was clean. Entry fee is $6. Overall a nice place to spend a day.

Love it here. Kids have a fun every time we come. Nice shady hiking trails
Chris M
Scenic State Park, well shaded campground. Avoid camping here during the wet season though, the drainage is poor and flooding occurs. I’m glad I brought a shovel to turn the mud over.
Kate Boughton
We loved our short visit here, would have liked to had more time to explore! Great park! Highly recommend! Camper with our RV and LOVED the campsite, much more spacious than some of the other state parks we’ve been to. So beautiful and more space for the kids to explore right by our site.
Nareshkumar Acharya
Nice beautiful state park. Entrance fee is $6 per vehicle with 2 to 8 people. There are few trails inside the park. The most popular ones are rapids nature trail, baynard trail and Seminole trail. The rapids nature trail is located along side the river making it look scenic. One can see turtle, alligator, birds, etc if lucky. There are platforms along the trail to view the rapids. There is also a suspension bridge that takes one to baynard trail. Both Rapids trail loop and baynard trail loop is around 1.1 miles. There is also public restroom, picnic area and playground. Also canoeing and kayaking, and swimming pool facilities available.
eddie c
Fantastic state park with great little hiking trails. Really enjoyed our visit here.
Robert Humphus
We enjoyed Hillsborough River State Park, cost to get in was a few bucks, and the park seemed clean and well maintained. We arrived on a Sunday morning around 10 am, the park was not busy at all. The trails are nice, it's not paved, most areas are dirt paths, which we like. There is a paved road through the park, large parking areas, a kids play area, kayak/canoe launching area, fishing, and other amenities. Highly recommend for family activities, cook outs, fishing, light boating, and getting some steps in while enjoying nature!
Mel
Very relaxing place for a hike + emptying your mind🍃🌳 should’ve taken more pictures but I was literally focused on relaxing. …
Adam Jonas
Awesome state park, so many amenities including multiple playgrounds, grills, picnic tables and soooo much more. The pool is currently closed for renovations but should be open in 2023 and that will be great!!
Jocelyn Pace
I loved this little state park! I wanted to go hiking with the family and dog and this park did not disappoint. Many tables to picnic upon, decent bathrooms, cute playground. We loved the varied biomes and enjoyed hiking along the river and admiring the old suspension bridge as we crossed. The next time we visit Florida, we plan on a short canoe/kayak trip starting from here! We might even camp someday, though the established campground offers little privacy for our dog. We didn't backpack to the primitive sites this time, but I'd love to see them!
Tiffany Nozicka
Well worth the $6 entry fee. The only reason I am giving it a 4 is because of the mosquitos. DO NOT forget the bug spray. It is imperative if you want to enjoy the beautiful walking trails. I cut my trip short because I forgot bug spray, but will definitely return prepared next time. I would not swim in the water, but lots of people were enjoying it via canoe and fishing. The Rapids and suspension bridge were very cool! It is a must see in Hillsborough County. I repeat - DO NOT forget the bug spray!!! Great state park to enjoy with well maintained trails and Florida Rapids.
Shane Quinlan
Great two mile loop. Small rapids. Unique for Florida. Nice places to sit by river to relax. Can be a quick little stop, or spend few hours exploring.
Bryan Wattenbarger
Did not expect to find rapids in this area. We really enjoyed hiking parallel to the river.
Veldana Alliu
Natural park near Tampa. Cool suspension bridge and plenty of picnic tables. Not many covered shelters but plenty of trees to block the sun.
Tony Rich
I love coming to this park. Well worth $6.00 for nothing but you and nature. I often bring my pup for long walks through the gorgeous trails. I feel extra comfortable staying for a while because of all the shade and not having to worry about hot pavement burning up her paws. Do not forget your bug spray! Mosquitos come after my pup too.
Toni Cabrera
It is one of the most beautiful state parks that I've ever been to... I live in Tampa but we go there very often because it feels like we're miles and miles away..
Bollens
Trails are super swampy, couldn't finish our loop (the 3mi trail). Surprised as it hasn't rained in a few days. Still beautiful, $6 entrance fee per vehicle.
Chris H
Park rangers were really nice, helped me get setup with the annual FL state park pass for Veterans. Trails are good, some of the trails however get pretty overgrown and need to be cut. Rented a kayak and saw lots of gators/turtles and a few birds. Very peaceful, especially when it isn't the middle of the day.
Brian & Nicole Love
One of the prettiest state parks I have ever been to.
Trails for everyone. Picnic tables, pavilions and benches. What a wonderful place to go and relax or go and get some exercise. We even saw people fishing. Very well maintained grounds. Plenty of parking. Lots of trees to climb - I have boys. Lots of fish swimming around. The Rapids trail was my favorite. But I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. Take the time and spend some time here, it's so relaxing. And if you walk too fast you will miss all the wildlife.
Rhonda Hoornstra
Great place to take the kids to explore. Nice trail along the river and lush greenery. We did see a coral snake but moved along. There is also a fun bridge to cross as well. This was a great place to get out for the day can't wait to go back.
William Joback
This is one of the most beautiful places to visit if your near the tampa area. The rapids are gorgeous the wildlife and scenery were amazing ! It was cool to see a suspension bridge as well. This park offers a few different trails to hike on that vary in length also you can't beat 6 bucks gets the whole family out of the house! Not to mention it's pet friendly and Tori had a BLAST!
Jill Easley
💚 Gorgeous views of the river along the rapids trail, where we routinely spot red-shouldered hawks, pileated woodpecker, American alligator, banded water snake, 9 banded armadillo, alligator gar, chicken turtles, etc etc. Walk quietly, watch and listen for movement, and obey the trail! (Poison ivy is everywhere! Riverbank is off limits for conservation!)
J Mann
Great experience, the rapids were beautiful. A little smaller scale than what we have seen in the Appalachian mountains but equally as beautiful. Would have liked to see more wildlife on our trip but we know it is there. A must see if not a local, very beautiful.
T. Williams
So many options! You can kayak on the river or you can camp overnight. If you take the trail on the first parking lot you can get great views on the river flowing through the park. It's 6 dollars per vehicle to enter and you can bring your own food and water. We will eventually go back and bike or ride the kayak on the river 🛶😎 …
Jade S. Williams
It was a nice experience, even though I literally seen several people litter.
Tim Lynn
A large State Park along the Hillsborough River. There are bathrooms, pavilions , picnic tables, camping, canoe and kayak launches with seasonal rentals, hiking trails and camping.
Caspian Kritsings
Absolutely GORGEOUS. The prettiest park I've been to in Florida. Despite living here my entire life I somehow missed this park. We saw loads of alligators, a beautiful red tailed hawk, baby alligators, and tons of squirrels and birds! There's playgrounds, tons of picnic benches and shelters, many many miles of trails depending on the difficulty level you want, canoe launches, camp sites, and a fun suspension bridge. It cost $6 for our car and it was more than worth it!!
Jason Rewald
Awesome place, went there to hike and loved it. Keep in mind the trails here are heavily traveled, so if you’re interested in seeing wildlife it’s best to go early in the morning when the park opens. Plenty of people are out there every day. It cost six dollars to get in, a small fee for such a lovely park. In fact, it’s a little easier to just pay using the website but if you don’t, they have envelopes you put your six dollars in the grant you access for the day. I highly recommend checking it out as the hiking trails all wind around the Hillsborough in River.
The Watcher
Park is very beautiful! Great place to explore and ride bikes. Rangers were on call after hours and I needed to call them twice and they had no problem with that. Would definitely come back after catapillar season is over, they're everywhere! Also website says no campfires and the guard shack says that's been on the website for years and they haven't been able to update it
Megan Belcourt
Worth the $6 entry fee, this place is beautiful! I already posted the pictures but I will include them with my review too. Will go again, so quiet and peaceful. Not too many people given the time that my boyfriend and I went.
Al L
This is my favorite state park. I love it so much my fiancée and I took our engagement photos here. There has been a lot of conservation work done over the past several years and I swear, every time I visit I see new more animals and plants. The swimming pool is nice too.
James Graham (SlippinJimmy)
Friendly staff. Most sites are somewhat secluded, but some are open too. Canoe and kayak rentals are available and it is a great river to travel leisurely and look for alligators. The entrance road is long and bike friendly.
ARC RODRIGUEZ
Enjoy a day with beautiful nature. Walk along the trails and see the the river rapids. Admission was $6 per car with 2 passengers. The pool is currently closed due to pandemic. Nice place to visit.
WikedSpartan
love going here, the trails are amazing and there is a small area of rapids. I have friends that have camped here and enjoy the experience but I have not myself as of yet. I highly recommend getting out and seeing some of your local parks.
Vladimir Fedorovich
Scenic river-side hiking trails, chance to view water rapids, spacious picnic area and campground, canoe and kayak launch. Great state park for family time!
Travler561
Great kayaking had fun hiking FYI pool is closed till 2023 also bring your own kayak they are not currently renting any, other than that it has grills, playground, hiking 🥾 trails 3 to be exact the one star is for not updating their current situation but great park …
Lexi
Love this place. Has several different trails. You can also ride your bikes on the trails. The river is along the trail ands there's a draw bridge you can cross over. I suggest to go in early am as its gets bit hot by afternoon. There is a small playground also, picnic tables to eat at.
Jim Buteyn
If you just want a comfortable stroll, seat on the river listening to the water or the challenge of an unpaved hiking trail this is your place. Scenery is stunning just a few bicyclists. Dog friendly, my Schnauzer loved the trails. Only complaint was be careful when hiking of the tree roots. Not bad on Rapids and Bayard trails but lots of them on the Seminole trail. One brought me down but a soft landing so no harm done. We will be back to try the Fort King trail.
Kathleen Wilcox
Beautiful Park! This place is a must see. You can rent canoe's or kayak's to spend time on the beautiful river. It was so thrilling to see a 13 1/2 foot alligator sunning on a bank. We also had a smaller alligator swim under our canoe we watched as he went out of view. There was also a large variety of different species of turtle's enjoying the afternoon sun. The trails are well groomed for a gorgeous walk. We stayed for 14 days before we had to give up our spot because we were at our max for camping in the state park. Bathrooms are cleaned every day. During our stay in March there was coffee and donuts once a week as well as a community pot luck dinner. The rangers are very well educated and happy to share their knowledge they answered all of my questions. The park volunteers do a wonderful job with upkeep of the park. Everyone we had met during pur say were absolutely outstanding! I will send out a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone keeping the park safe and beautiful.
Desyre Arnold
Beautiful and fun park! Our first time here this weekend, and definitely worth the hour drive! We hiked for about two hours. The café is extremely convenient, considering we forgot to bring extra water! They also had a fort war reenactment going on which was super cool!
The rapids and wildlife were beautiful.
Ken Sam
This is a Beautiful place. I was kayaking this time. It also has a hiking and mountain bike trail along the river that I love to ride my mountain bike.

One of the best state parks in Florida. Perfect for hiking, kayaking or canoeing, and camping. This is my fourth time camping here and I never want to leave. The park is well maintained and I don’t have any complaints. If you’re looking for some nature and serenity this is the place to go. Wish I lived closer so I could go more often but it’s worth the 4 hour drive.
Ashley Davis
Beautiful park!! I’ve been to this park twice. I did the Banyard and Rapids hiking trails. Beautiful scenery. Nice small level rapids especially if you just enjoy the sound of rushing water. Clean restrooms to be in a park. Very clear hiking path. Love how you just feel you’re not in Florida. Feels like you’re in a small forest. They have kayaking/canoeing but I haven’t had a chance to do it yet. But overall, I truly enjoy this park for a nice hike, to get away from it all, or just to enjoy nature!!
Liz Harvey
My first visit to this lovely River State Park provided an excellent get away camping weekend. The riverside section of The Seminole Trail is especially scenic.

Beautiful park in tampa . It’s well maintained and Good for people who want to spend some leisure time by hiking or just to relax with family/friends . Seminole trail is 3.4 miles long and it’s moderate . The suspension bridge is so beautiful . The entry fee for the park is 6$ per car . It has shelters , recreation halls, swimming pool , grill place and tables .
Crimson Eirene
Beautiful park. My favorite spot is the rapids area. I love the sound of the small rapids. My daughter and I try to stick with going during colder months because of her asthma (the heat makes it harder for her to breathe).
Zeyni Aktayca
There are a lot of mosquitoes. Don't forget to take the spray with you. Crocodiles are very rare.
Christian Thibaudeau
Beautiful park, trails and the wildlife is amazing. Very unfortunate the park os not receiving the attention it deserves by the State authorities on maintenance on trail/bridge/boardwalks.
Janna Rolfe
This is one of my favorite parks for hiking in nature in the Tampa area. They keep the trails so nice and the hikes through the woods and along the river is so wonderful. You will see birds, turtles, tortoises and gators and plenty of flowers and butterflies and enjoy the beauty of Florida nature.
Kimberly Spivey
Well kept state park. The kayak rentals was really nice and reasonably priced. Then when you get done kayaking or walking trails they have a large pool to cool off in and a little storefront to buy drinks, hot food, ice cream, or even beer.
Kim Lewis
Had a great day on the water! Water trail was super shaded which was a welcomed surprise!
The kayak launch site was awkward with the different height steps and...well...steps. We would have preferred if the launch site was further downstream, but was a gorgeous paddle.
Lots of gators, but to be expected. Well maintained!
Henry Henderson
It's my home park, I love this place. You can spend all day here and still not do everything, kayaks, canoes, bicycle riding, hiking trails, fishing camping etc. Please visit, you won't be disappointed.
MT L
Campground was good. Many sites were flooded during the down pour. Campground shower house is dated but clean. AWESOME hiking trails.
Peter USA
What better way to spend quality time with my family than here? This park has stunning trees, a large swimming pool and cafeteria, you can rent bikes, golf carts and kayaks. There is a large campground, each spot has a picnic table and a fire pit and the spaces are far enough to have plenty of privacy.

Absolutely beautiful! There are two main loops in the park, one that is 1.1 miles and another that is 3.4 miles that branches off the main loop. We probably spent about two hours walking nonstop. The second loop is definitely more challenging than the first, but worth it!
Safa Khan
Rlly great park. Lots of different trails and activities to do. It really is one of the best parks. They have kayaking, canoeing, swimming, even a playground. Their is a $5 entrance fee. Definitely recommend to check out.
Kirsten Cooper
We went in November and unfortunately, there were no alligators to be seen. 🥺 still a beautiful place and a nice walk. The suspension bridge was cool too. Don’t see to many of those! …

HRSP is in itself a wonderful park. My only complaint is that the communications (web site/email etc) are dismal! I almost canceled my recent camping trip because the website said there were NO kayak rentals (there are - albeit 3rd party onsite) and the email confirmation said that there were NO campfires allowed (except they are) and the checkout email said that I should follow instructions for checking out previously given to me (lost it by now) so yeah, except for that...HRSP is a pristine park/campground with wonderful amenities and lots to do!
Linda Risley
It was exactly what I needed to walk in the wilds of Florida. The trail was well maintained and had views of Florida vegetation and wildlife around every turn. The river views held promise of alligators, turtles and birds of many kinds. We were greeted with vultures and left with an owl hooting its goodbye. A great little slice of Florida!
Holly Shapiro
One of the most beautiful state parks I've been too. Lots of Wildlife. Trails are easy to navigate and well maintained.
Sanjay Nair
Nature at its best. Walking trail alongside the river and dense forest. Alligator warnings are put up but didn't see one.
There are bike rentals including family bikes and golf trolleys. They have picnic spots with barbeque grills and small children's play area. Public restrooms are available as soon as you enter and parking is free.
We saw a wedding taking place near the river side.
Need to visit it in the dark next time.
Jeanene Arrington
Gold Medal Award Winning State Park! Book in advance!!!! They sell out weeks in advance during prime camping season. Trails are wonderful. Small museum on site, canoe/kayak rentals, fishing, great place for weddings and parties. Sites for tents and RV's and a nice "hike to" primitive site as well. Beautiful group camping sites also
Melissa Fields
Beautiful area to bring the family- kayak- hike- pic-nik — enjoy being outdoors

I loved this park. Quite a few miles of trails. The only reason I’m giving this place four stars is because there was a crackhead lady running the admission office and she would not except my state park pass for some incoherent reason. But I did not let a few bucks ruin it for me. We had a great time! And if it’s crowded you can walk a mile down the longer trails and there will be a considerably less amount of people.

The park and campground are beautiful. We stayed 2 nights in an RV campsite.
During sleeping hours it was indeed very quiet. During the early evening hours there were guests that were rather loud and playing music that was louder than it needed to be (we could hear it for sites away, inside our RV over the volume of our TV).
There are several things to enjoy while staying here. There are lots of walking paths, there are watercraft rentals (canoes and kayaks), fishing, and more.
The reason for four stars instead of five is the fact that several trees at our campsite had dead limbs. With the slightest breeze they would tumble to the ground, one rather large branch almost hit my spouse in the head. This is a huge safety issue and I feel like the campground cleanup crew should be paying attention to these things.
Overall we have a very enjoyable time and we will be back.

Great place for a stroll through the Florida wilderness. My wife and I took our daughter there in May before it got too hot. The trails were cleared and easy to follow and the maps we got were very helpful. It’s about $5 or so to get into the park so a pretty small price to pay for a great day enjoying the outside.
Don Clemens
We had a nice three days there enjoyed paddling the river and walking the hikes was disappointed in the bathroom facilities outside of that the river is a Hidden Gem

Amazing new experience ☀️🌿 🌴 very well kept park - preserving nature's beauty ..love it!! …
Karin Kearns
The board walk is currently 1 way which proved to be a bit much for my mom & her rollator at the far end which was heavy w pea gravel an diffucult to traverse. I had to lift the front end up & pull it along so she still had something to hold on to & could keep moving. Fortunately is is mostly shady there & the river is lovely. Staff were installing bird & bat boxes. Parking is readily available
Peggy French
We had an amazing day here. Lots of things to do and see. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again. Totally worth the trip.
Kayleigh Camacho
Beautiful park, a great place to do some hiking and see some wildlife. Places to fish, playgrounds and a pool, canoe and kayak launches, primitive camping... there's something for everyone here. Head's up though, at least one trial is closed and the suspension bridge is out, courtesy of Hurricane Irma.

We are here for several days and have stayed in three different campsites. This is a well-maintained older state park and very comfortable. We are enjoying the trails, bike path, laundry facilities and proximity to Tampa. We have seen cardinals, alligators, and baby pigs during our stay.
denisse garcia
My family loves this park. The suspension bridge it’s pretty magestic. Trails are nice. Lots of picnic tables. Playground available. Tons of other amenities
Robert Palo
One of my biggest issues with Tampa is the lack of places to hike that feel disconnected from the city. There are a lot of parks, but none that seem to take me away from life for a few hours and immerse me in the tranquility of nature. When I visited Hillsborough River State Park (HRSP) I was expecting more of the same, but was very mistaken.
I live just north of downtown Tampa. The drive out to HRSP because with the typical Tampa congestion but then eased into a two lane highway that seemed to ease me into the nature I was about to experience. After around 45 minutes of driving, we arrived at the park. There is a $6 fee to enter and you pay that to the ranger. From what I can tell, it’s cash only. After paying, the drive through the park is one way, with forest and brush on either side. We stopped at a small parking lot which was the entrance to a trail. There are only a few spots here, so if it’s full you’ll have to go further down the road to one of the larger lots.
Trails are well worn and there are boardwalks in other areas so you most likely won’t get lost. There are also maps occasionally around the trail, with some paper maps to take. I wouldn’t rely too heavily on these though as they’re lacking a lot of basic information. There isn’t much of an elevation change (it’s FL, what do you expect?) but there are a lot of areas with significant exposed roots. Tucked back on one of the trails is a primitive camping area if you’re in to “just-the-basics” camping. For others who need a little more accommodations, there is also a campground which looked big enough for tents and RVs.
During the warmer months, there is a large pool with café. The café was open when we visited so we stopped in for a snack. The menu was larger than I was expecting and included: smoothies, ice cream, sandwiches, etc. They also sell items for camping and some souvenirs. Food prices seemed fair for what you get. The only complaint I have about the café is there weren’t many options for small packaged snacks.
The park closes at sundown, so make sure to plan accordingly. This is a place I am hesitant to recommend. And that’s only because I’m selfish and want to keep it quiet! But if you’re looking for a nice place to get away from town for a bit, or go camping without getting too far away, I would recommend HRSP.

This is Florida's Yosemite. Go, hike, bike, and fall in love with this place. Make sure to read the "prayer of the woods" while there, and follow its words.
William barsalow
This picture of the Hillsboro River is not what I found when I went to go fishing...yet the park is nice and educational about the native plant species...
Graham Williamson
Nice park but I didn't have time to explore. The dirt roads were not ideal, due to useage and weather. Not good for cars. The pool was closed when I was there. Plenty of people enjoying themselves. Good shops close by. Easy to get in and out.
Urmila Wadnerkar
Wonderful and scenic park located right in Hillsborough. There are camping facilities, trails, and canoeing. Small fee for parking, but totally worth it. Saw lots of wildlife including owls, alligators, and turtles.
Lynette Moneymaker
Phristine primordial Cypress Forest and Blackwater river. Beautiful Kayaking, limited launching areas. Very nice Camp grounds and facilities with a lot of shade. Beautiful Large pool and family pavilion.
Lisa Vaquera
Such a beautiful location! 😍 Definitely lots of scenery for beautiful photos. …
Christina Cranton
Our glamping setup gets a 10/10 but the campgrounds are terrible for noise. Well past midnight peoples screaming, loud talking, loud movies/music, etc makes it impossible to sleep. Apparently no one here cares enough to enforce quiet hours even at 1am. The park is very nice but I would not come back for camping.
Rick Ewart
This is an excellent campground. Hard to believe it's so close to civilization. Second visit and both were very good.
Jared DuBach
Bathroom and shelter facilities looking rough but FL humidity will do that. Trails are kept up well and staff are friendly.
Yes, we did see an alligator in the wild.
S M
Great place to camp!! Very friendly and kid friendly. Great sites and bathrooms are clean. We loves the trials.
Hender Molina
Great place to be in touch with nature. Second time doing the trails. This time was in summer but mosquitos were terrible and the road was to wet with swamps.
Devin Thompson
Wonderful park. Went on the Rapids trail. It was short but beautiful. Also has playgrounds, camping, kayak, canoeing, fishing, swimming pool and plenty of hiking.
Amy S
My new favorite park in central Florida! The park provides about 7 miles of trail, which is primarily a shaded (a rarity in this area)! The trails are great for running or walking and there are some quite pretty views along the way. We saw some neat wildlife there: a rather large snake and large alligator while along the river. There are some nice pavilion and picnic table areas and a playground. The bathrooms are clean and decent, but you may want to bring some sanitizer - soap is not guaranteed.
Jonathan Ulrich
Great place to have a leisurely hike. The canopy provides a nice reprieve from the sun. The water provides a relaxing ambience. I highly suggest this place.
Acct 4 Dedo
This park is close o the city but you feel like you are in old Florida. Great places to hike and explore. The kids love this place.
Mike Schofield
Great place for a nice nature walk in the woods. Guy at the gate was friendly. Park was very clean and not too busy.
Wez So_N_So
It was Thanksgiving day when I went, lots of family get togethers going on and kids playing. Once you get off the main trail it was nice and quite. I Did 2.5 miles of trails along the river, very easy walking. Nice place to get away from the city.
Paula Smith
Amazing camp ground very well kept.
Danette Neely (Danette Neely)
Love this park. So well maintained. A pool, canoes & bicycles. Lots of trails, wildlife and history.
Jesse Garrison
It was fun seeing Rapids in Florida. Although they we're small it was a fun hike through the woods to take a peek and just enough trail to get lost after. Set in close proximity to the hustle of Tampa this is a great spot to unwind and just explore. Don't know why it took me so long to make it out here. I definitely recommend making the trip out on a weekday if possible. Gets pretty busy on the weekend
Tony Conte
Great park with one of the only two natural rapids in the state of Florida, nice hiking trails, camping spots, picnic pavillions, and very scenic and secluded natural paddling.
Sean Zha
5/5 best state park in FL. Truly a wildlife sanctuary. Don’t forget your bug spray when you visit!
Grace Holland
don’t stop moving unless you want to become an all you can eat buffet for the mosquitoes,
but also it was extremely beautiful, green, and very nature
Al Sepu
Route is a few miles, was wet when we went, mostly dirt paths, plenty of covered picnic areas.
Troy Miller
Great park. Nice trails and they have a gift/restaurant if hungry. Giant pool, lots of parking. If starting Baynard trail park in lot 2..
Kay Guerard
Cool suspension bridge, calming sound of small rapids, macro photography flowers and mushrooms...great place.
Michael Snyder
Always one of our favorite campsites.
Ashton Doran
Spacious campsites. Several restroom and laundry facilities throughout the campground. The hiking is gorgeous with trails that are very well marked. The campground is quiet and the host is always driving around with firewood and ice. They have a bike lane the loops the perimeter of the entire park. It’s close proximity to Tampa is an added bonus.
Brenda Haskell
This is the most beautiful park. Staff is very friendly & very attentive. We hiked and kayaked and we wished we had more time here. The park was full while we were there but it didn't feel that way. Restrooms were attended to. The park was clean. The pool/store area is under construction but we really didn't notice.
Cece
My new favorite spot but bring bug spray!!!! I can not stress that enough!!! Mosquitos were out!! I will definitely become a regular at this location bc there’s several things and places to see here. A++++ Definitely recommend.
Lola Lee
Beautiful even more so than I remembered as a child.. and YES there are Alligators all over keep as eye out on the banks soaking up the sunshine. Stay out of the river... Even the shores... Alligators!! I only saw one today but they are there... Mating season is starting soon!! Nice safe path from one end to the rapids and back nice swinging bridge is where we parked. Walked approx 1 hour total and very leisurely.. saw tons of wild life and the river is beautiful
Zulmarie Marquez
Please open the pool we need it!!! Amazing place 🥰 …
Asim Nabi
Serene and quietly relaxing and beautiful
What a nice place to spend sometime in the lap of nature with river flowing in the background.
Loved this place , easy to stroll around , ample parking and so vast that you’ll possibly be jaded before the time runs out for you to leave.
Awesome
Kristin Anderson
A stunning state park! This is by-far one of our favorite state parks in Florida! There is a beautiful hiking trail, suitable for all ages, that runs along the water. We were even able to use our stroller for the parts we walked, which was convenient for our little one. The water is generally clear and you can see fish and other wildlife in it. The suspension bridge is also a great photo opportunity. We did not have enough time to explore all the park had to offer, but we will definitely return as we really enjoyed our time here.
Robert Tapley
I've always lived going on this River with my kids and their spouses we've always had a good time. But this is the last trip I had to take with my dad before he passed I always remember it he loved it so much this is his birthday and it was so much to see I know he was tired but he still stayed with the whole day trip. Don't let it be too late to go see it it's a beautiful place lovely nature and the guys are renting The kayaks and canoes ain't so bad either well happy Orange this is Rob signing out.

Come visit a breathtaking oasis of natural and historical significance. Stroll along the river rapids, enjoy camping, explore historic structures, share a picnic or view scenic landscapes.
Hillsborough River State Park provides many opportunities for outdoor recreation. From fishing in the Hillsborough River to hiking or biking on the trails or picnicking under pavilions built in the 1930s, there is something for everyone here.
Besides enjoying a living history lesson, visitors can kayak or canoe class II river rapids, which are rare in Florida, and hike seven miles of nature trails.
Camping is another popular activity at Hillsborough River State Park, just a short distance from the bustling city of Tampa.
Hike It Florida
Great park with several different hiking trails and numerous things to do. Wonderful Backcountry campsites.
Piotr Kalinowski
A big and beautiful State Park. There is a spectacular trail along the river and a few longer ones on the other side of the river. I am just back from the 3.4 mile trail. It was partially inaccessible but still attractive.
Deb Lauren
Peaceful. Clean rapids. Huge pool with handicapped access. Plenty of playgrounds. Beautiful well kept trails. Plenty of playground site choices and picnic choices. Camping sites. Playground equipment in good repair. Interesting signs along the paths about the surrounding flora and fauna. Pristine.
Fernando Fisogni
Nice place to relax
And walk around the nature.
T. Monson
One of my favorite Florida State Parks. The bridge and trails offer many views of the river and wildlife. The small section of rapids offer a wonderful break from the silence.
Laura Davis
worth the drive from wherever you are. This park is stunningly beautiful!! Several short very easy trails
IJR Racing
This state park has great is great for geocaching, has a huge pool, kayaking and canoeing. Nice trails, (BYOB) BRING YOUR OWN BUGSPRAY. Overall a good state Park. Plus: River rapids👍- minus can be crowded. …

Great park for hiking alone or with a group, dogs on leashes are welcome. Low cost entrance fee. Lots of wildlife to see, I always see deer and alligators.
Amber McWhorter
Amber McWhorter Photography - Lovely location for photo sessions! Lighting and greenery are beautiful!
Gene Monse
We had a great time at the Swamp Stomp (volunteering). The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have a good time.

An awesome place, friendly staff and dogs are all welcome...even a few cats.
SHANNON K SEXTON
I suggest to paint electrical boxes and water pipes red possibly blue for water red for electric .some pot holes need be addressed in road way thru park . Otherwise park looked good spot #10 perfect for tent
Gail Shafer
Hillsborough River State Park is always a value for the price. Excellent location to anything you need. The trails provide a lovely walk by the water. We kayaked and rode bikes nearby. We always felt safe and restrooms were always clean.
Carlos Ramos
Lots of wildlife and trails. Great place!
Umar Abdullah
Liked the place. You'll see lots of vultures flying there. Enjoyed the afternoon. A bit crowded place though.
Jessica Deiss
Beautiful Alligator viewing, good fishing, great campsites.
Dallas Fancher
Saw a live gator on their trail by the rapids... well not on the trail, but from the trail. We had a great walk!
Mike J
Nice nature park but I didn't see much wildlife (1 gator across the river and a few herons). Went in the morning so maybe early evening would be better. It's clean and worth a visit or two.
Wild Marks
Very nice park lots to do pool kayaking hiking trails canoeing
Joseph Elliott
Excellent place to get away from everything. Hiking trails, biking trails, canoe rentals. They even have a cafe were you can order hot food.
ShakenFoe
Great place to hike or bike. Some things could use some extra upkeep or updating, but it's generally pretty good.
Kimberly Williams
My husband and I are OTR drivers and we had a lay over in the area. He looked online and found this state park. Mrs. Carolina at the frint gate was really helpfully and allowed us to pull the semi (53 ft. )😱 into the park. It was an awsome experience. The park is beautiful and the people were really friendly. We will be returning to this park in the near future to enjoy some live music underneath the stars🌟.BLESSED!# Travelers 2018#B&K Bonnie and Clyde2018

This park has been around since the 1930’s. Beautiful place to enjoy old Florida. Big grandfather oaks laden with moss, air plants, and ferns. Walking along the river with rapids making a soothing noise in the background. Checking for wildlife like turtles, squirrels, possum, birds, and more. Listening to a great horned owl calling to another in the distance. Checking out the big cypress tree hollowed, but still standing. Only down side is the park can become crowded with people.
Melissa Vivenzio
One of the best State Parks in America. Very well keep, by park management. Thank you for all your hard work.
Olivia Aman
One of the best parks in Florida for hiking and one of the few that has different terrain to walk along the river. Love this park and will Forever be my favorite in Florida.
Cheryl Long
This park is well worth $6 to get in. Take a picnic. Beautiful rapids Trail is something to see. Lots of beautiful pavilions. Camping, canoeing. Bike lanes. Beautiful state park. Spend the day in nature
Jeffrey Ford
Camp here mid-December thought the park was very nice but you cannot have a camper over 20 ft I was driving with a 2017 Winnebago micro mini 2106 and had a little difficult time backing up not really much room here but made it work and great for the price I would definitely return if in the area again but maybe not on the same lot
BREE Hansen
Made a reservation for a tent spot on presidents day and unfortunately come sundown the parks security kicks in and the gate locks; which is great, but not when I don't have the code. In comes one of the employees Kyle E, immediately answered my Google chat question and came to let me in after showing him my reservation and even brought us to our camp site; in the pitch black it's hard to navigate so thank you so much for helping us, Kyle. Vacation saved!
Beautiful park with great amenities, too!
Robbie Scicolone
Very nice but a lot of the park emenities are closed.
Donald Stoner
Walked all three trails, it was great. Rapids in Florida is a rare site, and I saw several orchids in the trees over hanging the river. Trails are completely shaded. The Seminole trail is the longest and a little over grown. Definitely watch out for roots in the path
Ruchika shirole
It's a nice place ...close to nature ..feels good to be here...but as I heard ,couldn't find any allegators....it's a peaceful place..u get cycles to go around n one can also go in your own cars..
Jmack3d M
Great place along the river for hiking and camping. One of the best parks in Hillsborough County.
Kyle Jetton (VKFlorida)
Great place to hike, kayak, bike and explore..then a nice big pool to cool off in.
John Thompson
Walked over 5.5 miles on two trails. It as absolutely beautiful. Extremely quiet. 6.00 per car admission includes 2 people. Bring the dog (on a leash) and some good hiking boots.
beckyhartman61 Hartman
It was a beautiful site. We enjoyed our stay for the most part. Unfortunately we didn't really have time to enjoy the trails and other campsites because we had to move from site to site quite a bit. The longest we were in one spot was 3 days. If you are in an rv you stay in one place.
Dan Comfort
Really beautiful Park well taken care of except the campground bathrooms are a little dated.
Mary Garner
We absolutely love this park. It's one of the nicest State Parks in Florida, with shaded campgrounds, well-marked hiking trails, beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. There's a great, enormous pool with a modest entry fee, multiple playgrounds, an old fort, and many other things to see and do with the kids. The pool has a gift shop and snack bar. The camp hosts and rangers do a great job keeping everything clean and the campgrounds are quiet after hours. Book well in advance if you want to camp - it's a very popular place and fills up quickly!
Denise Mooney
This park has been my favorite since I was younger. Great trails. Nice employees. Bathrooms could use a cleaning but not terrible. Awesome campground.
Randy Krug
Great trails for hiking along the river and even a suspension bridge! Saw a Mama gator and her babies sunning on a rock across the river.
J Curcio
We camped for the weekend and it was a really nice stay. We were able to maneuver our 30’ travel trailer into our site with ease and didn’t feel cramped with our neighbors. Would have rated it 5 star but there were some areas where it lacked if you are one who is used to having all of the amenities available to you, even while camping. There isn’t much of a supply store onsite so one must be prepared with all of the essentials unless you want to drive over 20 minutes to the nearest store. They do drive around selling firewood and ice so A+ for that! There is no Wi-Fi and we could only get limited connectivity on our T-Mobile phones. There are no sewer hookups at the sites so this is a bit of a pain. And as others have said, the mosquitos are like Jurassic Park size so deterrents are definitely recommended. Overall, we walked the beautiful trails and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the rapids and suspension bridge, despite being eaten alive.
Eric Owen
Great park. Lots of things to see and do. Plenty of trails to walk or hike. Great place to bring the family. Plenty of parking. Staff was great, ranger at gate house very knowledgeable of park and helped with providing information. Will be returning.
Morgan Rotberg
Great state park. Love the trails and views of the river. Each time we visit it's a different experience. So many fun hideouts in the park. Definitely a great local day trip!
jay mon
Had lots of family fun. Did some kayaking down the river. Very nice scenery up and down the river seeing animals in nature.
Cyndi Levine
This is a great natural park. Simple loop with lots of parking. We did the river rapids trail, which showcases the class 2 rapids (very swollen with all the rain) and passed over several rustic footbridges as well as a swinging bridge built almost 90 years ago. I reccomend parking lot 2 and as you start your hike, make the first left so your loop (about 1.2 miles) ENDS near the rapids. Some parts of the trail were underwater with rain, so wear sturdy shoes that can get muddy and do NOT forget to spray yourself with mosquito repellent. The pool and concession were sadly closed for renovation.
Milly Ortiz
It's super! It gives you privacy, people camping there are so so friendly. Everyone looks like they are camping for vacation mostly.
pam garcia
Beautiful place, nice boardwalk trail, and lots of birds, fish, and alligators to see!
Be Brown
It's a short nice walk along the river. I saw alligators, fish, and an armadillo. Best $5 I've spent in awhile.
Ray Johnson
Beautiful Florida park that features a river with Rapids! Quite unusual for this state, more like a Tennessee river.
Alexis Alderman
Loved these trails. Dogs enjoyed them too! Great shade throughout.
It was my first time here, and I did have to turn around on 2 of the trails due to the path being flooded. I'm sure others would have gone through it, but I didn't have water shoes. Just keep that in mind if there's been a lot of rain lately. Otherwise, this will become a frequently visit w the pups!
Kelly Larrow
How did I grow up 20 minutes down the road and not know about this place!?!?
Gorgeous natural setting, amazing amenities, and - most importantly for Florida - lots of shade!
We will DEFINITELY be back!
Darian Richards
Nice casual fun for the family. You hace your choices of several hiking trails, camp grounds, and a river.
Rob_ Capturez
Great trails and things to see along the way
Jefferson Cox
Visited friends staying at the park. Hiked along the Hillsborough River on the Rapids Trail, and wouldn't you know, the Hillsborough River has rapids. They're pretty cool!
Ailin Lojo
The park is nice and clean. The reason for the 3 stars is because the camping site is not full hook up. They only have 1 dump station for 114 camping sites.... ridiculous! You have to wait an hour to dump! I will not be coming back because of that single reason....if you stay for a couple of days, and you don't want to be moving the RV every 2-3 days, you cant use your RV fully ... you will have to dump the water and go to hrs of wait.... the traffic around the dump site is a mess... not enough space for coming in and out if there are RVs waiting for dumping.
Joan Antonuccio
Beautiful park, but be VERY mindful that since early 2021, ALL previously stored information has been wiped out and you will have to start a new account AND provide documentation that a loved one is disabled. The "new" rules are very specific so do yourself a favor and read the details before booking. I wish I had...
David Green
Wonderful Florida nature for the whole family. Nice hiking. Spectacular views everywhere, this park is a superstar.
Eric
Top state park, great hiking and very relaxing rapids
celeste Morningstar
My boyfriend and i have gone 2 years in a row and we love it.
Christie Pump
Nice camping trip. Availability on weekends is booked and hard to get.
CHAOSNCHECK T
This is a very nice park. We stayed two nights and enjoyed ourselves The park is very large; both the day use area and the RV park portion. Regrettably, the entire park (cafe/store/pool) are not open. The hiking trails are open and while a bit muddy from a recent rain, were well marked and easy to walk. Our site was large but a weird shape that required we make a very tight 180 right turn to position our trailer where the hookups were on the driver's side. Host Family team come around each evening around 1600 selling wood and ice. The bathrooms / showers were nice and each bath house had a washer/dryer - about $2.50 a load. No wifi but we had a strong Verizon signal. Definitely a park we plan to return to.
Tony Urbizu
We didn't spent much time. At the gate, she said if you are going to drive through no charge. We just drove around, and it looks like a nice place to bring a canoe, kajak, bikes, and spent a weekend. They have a place they rent these things. There is a pool but it was closed. Also for campaing with A/C hook ups. Also a shower and other amenities. We love it.
Clifton Greene
True nature experience, the trail was well kept, and clearly marked. It wasn't to difficult just long. At certain places in the trail it gets really muddy so make sure your wearing appropriate shoes.
Zach
Beautiful state park with great trails and so much to see.
Robert Roemer
Just stayed here for two nights. We where greeted with friendly faces at the rangers station, the whole park was super clean and was very well kept. Camping showers had plenty of water pressure and hot water . We had an awesome experience great place to walk the trails or kayak. Only down side I could see is if it where to rain all the campsites and trails would be very muddy.
Cheryl P.
What an amazing place this is. We've camped here for about a week and its absolutely beautiful to say the least. The scenery is great the rapids are gorgeous peaceful and clean. The camp grounds are so well taken care of. The bathrooms cleanest ive seen at a state park. The showers are hot which is a wonderful thing. We did have a Bobcat snooping around our tent one night during our stay. Alot of armadillos and raccoon as well, we have seen alot of hawks and Beautiful birds during our stay! The rangers are great very friendly an accommodating! They have water and power on site which is very nice. All around a great place for a family camping trip. Recommend to everyone looking for a nice camp experience.
Eugene Henry
This State Park is wonderful! You will enjoy the picnic areas and improved trails, but get out into the wilderness and truly enjoy the Florida environment! Be smart and watch for ticks. But, if you get off the path, you will see some of the other remarkable species that we share our planet with! Have fun!
Nadia Sandoval
Great place to go and have a relaxing time! Can't wait to be back!
Bryan Sercu
I love this park but if tent camping, don't book site 93. After a 2 hour medium rain, site was flooded. Other sites around us were more level and didn't have standing water. Booked 2 nights but checking out early due to picnic table and fire pit now being surrounded by water and mud.
Allison Van Kessel
Beautiful & super clean park! Came to see the authentic Florida sights, did not disappoint. Lots to do & see here.
Quint Pal
Lovely park, well maintained trails. I'm hoping to go back and try kayaking

Grat state campground. Clean bathrooms and grounds. Miles of nice walking trails.
KH Autry
One of my favorite local parks and campsites

Awesome hideaway in Hillsborough County. Relaxing sense of Floridays outdoors.
Heather Moore
Loved the trails to walk around. Great place to see the river and many animals.
Roberto Bassatt
If you want to have 1 of the most relaxing walk in your life this is the place to go to. The walk by the river is one of the beautiful and relaxing experiences you can have. They have play ground for the kids and if your in luck you can experience the wild life up close
Catherine Rodeback
Very nice busy State Park felt like an RV community very full bathrooms were great laundry facilities in the bathroom area was very helpful we stayed one night our spot was easy to back into
kool mudkips
Absolutely amazing park. Perfect for hiking, photography, canoeing, camping, having a party, taking the kids to blow off steam. Multiple parking areas, a beautiful swimming pool, a small store/shop type area by the pool. The park rangers have all been knowledgeable, polite, and funny. (Especially the younger one with nice tattoos) The entrance fee is $6 for up to 8 people in a vehicle. My new favorite place.
Jes Michaud
We took our dogs and they absolutely loved it! The rapids are peaceful and beautiful. We will definitely make this a monthly visit!
Jay G
Had a blast camping in the primitive campground, lots of wildlife strolling through and lots of owls! I would definitely recommend this experience.
Joe V.
This is a great Park, busy during weekends, "light attendance" during "weekdays". If you like "River activities" and a well organized location with great "associates", this is your Park. Note: Veterans under 65 & No dissabilities, Do not get discounted Fares.( So I was informed on Location).
Naresh Kumar
Had a pleasant experience at Hillsborough River State Park. Nice place which has plenty of grills and places to park. People who like to hike would love this place. PLEASE make sure that you carry a BUG repellent, since this park has lot of mosquitos and other bugs which may make your experience not grateful.
Frank Troche
Very beautiful relaxing park on the edge of a river. Make sure to bring a picnic.
Hannah Bananna
The park is absolutely beautiful. We have taken advantage of the hiking trails, the picnic area, and many more amenities. The park rangers are very nice and have a plethora of information that they are very happy to share. By far this has been our favorite place to park our travel trailer in all of Hillsborough and Pasco County. Also, if you are a disabled veteran they give you a free lifetime membership that allows you and up to seven people to enter this one and 169 other State Parks in Florida. This membership also gives you 50% off of all camping charges. We will definitely return to this park and plan on visiting quite a few of the other ones on the list.
Megan Walker
Beautiful park to explore. Peaceful environment. Wish they would get rid of more invasive plant species but still full of native wildlife.
Linda Maloney
I took my grandson to this park, my grandson is a dog named Gus. He had a wonderful time. There are rapids to look at
With a walkway next to the water. Very beautiful. There also was a suspension bridge. It’s worth the trip . Go to google as my video wouldn’t load
Jerome Carlin
This place is like a dream ! As soon as you drive in you can feel the real natural side of Florida.
The trails are very peaceful its not crowded and the air is great for the workout .
Alex Andino
This park is beautiful, it has great easy trails and facilities. The camping area is good but watch out for the rainy season as some camps get a bit flooded.
S Jackson
Beautiful State Park with great trails. Some were washed out and we got quite muddy, but that is to be expected for a September hike in Florida. Must wear protective clothing and strong bug spray (Skin So Soft must be heavily applied!). It was not overcrowded at the end of September. No masks worn but we all tried to stay 6+ feet apart. We saw about 4 other parties of 2-3 people. We went after 4pm. Ranger only stays until 5 pm, so if you have questions, ask them then. Ask for a map. Well worth a visit. Helped us mentally get a break from being house bound since the pandemic.
Susan Satterfield
Great Camping on the River. Good fishing. Pavilion and trails. The only problem is that it's practically impossible to get a reservation even a year in advance.
Tyler Boyle
Really great park. Costs 4 or 6 bucks to get in depending on if you're alone or with others. There are a few nature trails for walking. Awesome view of hillsborough river where there are some rapids. Big swimming pool and concession stand with food. Tons of parking. Big camping area. Awesome spot
Nola R
This park is wonderful. I was parked next to the park hosts. The park is very nice and clean. I really like that there are trash receptacles near me AND they have recycling bins. There are so many things to do there, swimming in the wave pool, hiking, biking, and kayaking. Loved my stay there. I also loved that the restrooms had a shower and were clean.
Riesen Pimmel
Really cool area to go kayaking, you can rent one for 40$ /2h
Bobbie Briney
This was Great for the hole family. It was. Only $6. to get in lots of fresh air space to walk with out to many people around you we cooked out on. The grill thats already there just bring some charcoal and lighter fluid enjoy a peaceful relaxing day with your family and even friends. Not like going to theme parks in spending outrageous amount of money. Kids had fun ages almost 2 and. 3years old and 4 months old lots to see
Megan Frick
Would be five stars because the River is amazing and the trails are great too. However the camp store and pool area are ran by a separate and very rude staff. The pool on the campground is also priced separately and closes at 5 (2 whole hours after check in!). That’s not the best part though, the pool is also full of bird feathers and dirt!!! And you can watch vultures drink from the water you’re letting your kids swim in !!! Again, the river itself is beautiful and I’m a fan of the kayak trails but they really ought to look into partnering with better people.
Lindsey Flanagan
Rangers are nice, they sell ice and firewood at the camp host station. The ground is very soggy and flooded in some parts after rain. We are on a quiet loop, took a ride one loop over and seems like the party side. Nothing crazy, just having a great time. The bathroom in our loop was not clean and the toilets were full and stopped up. I'm sure they will address it.
Great weekend here and will be back.
Nicolas Machado
Beautiful place to spend the day outdoors. Flora, fauna, and all the splendor of nature's pallette in full display. There are serene woods near babbling rapids and the canopy overhead make for great hikes along established trails.
Sarah Street
The pool was very clean and well-kept. The entrance fee of $4 for anyone 5 and over is reasonable. I enjoyed having the option of concessions right there. As well as easily accessible restrooms. My only slight complaint is that the water was not as cool as I would have liked to cool off from the Florida heat. If you are looking for a place that is very cool and refreshing for the summer this is not it. However, my younger boys enjoyed the shallow pool. The deepest it gets is 4 feet which was safe and enjoyable to wade in for them. and easy for me to monitor.
Megan Alnutt (Derr)
Love how much there is to do. Hiking, camping, picnics, pool/playgrounds, nature viewing, canoe/kayak rentals. Well worth the $6 I paid to get into park. So much to look at!!! Very beautiful. The rapids and suspension bridge were my favorites
Marv Zip
Great park, beautiful river, nice campground, no concessions or rentals as of this writing. Lots of parking and lots of room for gatherings and cookouts. Fort Brooke is part of this park. There are occasional tours and the annual Florida Indian Wars re-enactment. Worth a see.
Gail Rodgers
The park rangers are very gifted...I wasn't going there at the moment but I have spent alot of years going there since my children were small...great place to go swimming camping trails etc.. but I really want to thank these rangers for keeping me alive they were the best! I just can't thank yall enough for helping my problems there yesterday...1-10-22
Dave Newell
What a beautiful park to visit or camp at. I love hiking the trails that wind through woods and follow the Hillsborough River giving some beautiful views and chances to see some wonderful wildlife. The rangers keep the trails in great condition.
There are great campgrounds, canoe and kayak rentals, and a public swimming pool with lots of playground equipment.
This park is well worth a visit!
Michelle Arp
Great park, lots to do. Staff very nice. Bathrooms are typical for a state park. Showers stayed hot. Pool is huge. I took off one star because no longer is the pool admission included when camping there. Plus, the pool water is super hot in the summer months, so don't bother with it.
Cathy Spurgeon
The park has alot to do. The pool is really big and very nice. The admission to the park is $6.00 per car, pool cost $4.00 pp, you can bring your own chair or rent there's. No coolers, but you can bring only bottled water. The have a cafe with all kinds of goodies. They have bike rentals, canoe and kayaks. Its a beautiful well kept park to spend the day.
Camille Gentry
Whether with the family, your special someone or just yourself camping here is relaxing. Paved roads, old Florida, and a small lending library located next to the nicer of the two loops available. From tent camping to fancy class A coach camping, families will find a quiet place to unwind for awhile. Currently pool is closed as is shopping next to it. Ice and logs for fire can be purchased between certain hours each evening.
Iveliza Rivera
Its a great place with light for your site of camping and water but the pool right now not working. There have a rest Rooms and bathtub. But my sister canceled whole weekend like 1 month ago and they said retuen back money in paid check and never see it, and I canceled two days too.
Jamie Crawford
I went here unexpectedly last Saturday and it was amazing. The river was beautiful and the trail leading around it was so nice. They have so many places to sit for picnics it was surreal looking. I highly suggest everyone check this park out if you want a feel of what Florida looked like before people.
D S
Unlike all the parks back at home (NY), this park offers a tropical touch to it with beautiful scenes and several trails to walk down. The trail alongside the river is by far the most important and lovely of them all. Definitely a park to remember and one to revisit in the future. Great job keeping the wildlife safe too. Watch out for the snakes and alligators!
Jonathon Livingston
Great fishing and very beautiful
Never a dull time
R. S
Very rainy and muddy but we love this State park
Angela Wieczorek
Good camping and fishing
Michael Cammarata
This is a bueatiful park to bring the family to or just enjoy on your own. Very well done and will keep going back there.
Shary Acosta
Beautiful trails super relaxing!
TERRI McClelland
I loved the experience from start to end. The hiking was fun with a couple if sightings of alligators basking in the sunshine draped over oak trees that had fallen into the river...the staff delivered firewood and ice to purchase camp side...the only negative was the closeness of the sites to each other. But I think it is a wonderful place and family and pet friendly..definitely I will go back.
Jamie Jackson
I've been coming to this part for 20 years or more. We used to Camp there when I children with smaller. Loved it then and I love it now! The pools a lot of fun and inexpensive, the hiking trails are fun, clean picnic areas! Do not swim in the water! We do have Gators! Lol :-)
Kai “Dr Gaertner” Gärtner
Nice Park, but a lot oft nasty mosquitoes
Angela Caswell
Excellent place for doggie adventures. Trails are gorgeous. A beginner in good shoes can make a day of it. Pool is shallow so it’s good for the little ones. Will be trying the kayaking next visit. Been 3-4 times and haven’t runout of things to do yet.
Mike Foley
Well maintained trails. Much of interest to see. Never knew about the limestone formations and the rapids they create. Many large cypress trees.
Leslie McCranie
Although the sites are large they do not have any pull through accessible to make it easy for the party bus to get in and out of. The accommodations are nice. Consideration given to the age of the park and the budget State Parks receive for the tremendous amount of time and effort the staff dedicates to giving people a warm family camping experience. I would not recommend this park for the elderly or disabled as it has been a challenge for my parents. Dad still managed to get out and explore and even convinced ma to join him! We have been working on outfitting their new RV home to make it accessible and cozy for them. The park has been completely perfect for that purpose. We are all glad to have experienced it's beautiful views. Campfire usage is heavy on weekends. This causes the smoke to stay low under the trees when it is damp out. That's like every day here in FL. I might suggest on heavily booked nights that a 1 fire per 5 sites rule go in to effect. Many people have breathing issues. I am a smoker and it triggered my allergies in to chaos three nights this week.
All in all I have been happy with my visit. I would happily return to check out the rest of the trails.
Paul Stone
Great hiking, multiple easy trails with nice views. Swimming pool is private and an additional fee. Campground is nice, showers have no water pressure. Overall, great trip will come again.
Rusty Solomon
Great family fun and lots of nature to enjoy.
Tifanie Page
Great hiking trails (well shaded), kayaking ops, suspension bridge. The play ground is large! The pool is super reasonable to get in! I think it was like $5/pp and under 5 is free. Wonderful grounds!!
Dan Vongsa
Extremely fun alone or with the family! The entire ecosystem is well preserved and maintained. The entire atmosphere is comfortable with plenty of shade for the hiking so you won't easily get burned by the UV and heat. So many wildlife animals to be seen esp turtles and alligators, and more! You can reserve a pavilion for birthday parties like one we just saw today. Plenty of parking and walking space. Just make sure to keep the place clean and don't litter!
Jan McLellan
We just spent two weeks here. Very nice state park. We had electric, water, very nice clean bathhouse, washer/dryers, no sewer, but has a dump site, so bring your blue boy. We were in site 43. We had to back down a lane, and make a hard turn to park. Service was on the other side of the RV, so bring extensions, just in case. We hiked and biked. Beautiful black river and trees. About 10 miles to Costco, Walmart, diesel, etc. Very easy to stay here.
Kayla Buffalo
Bring bug spray but it was great! Absolutely beautiful, 10/10 will go again
Janice Ryan
This is a beautiful park with lots of great hiking. We spotted all sorts of wildlife, including gators. Camping was great and included a fun Friday evening tour by a park ranger. I would have given a 5 star rating except the cafe and rental people were super rude.
Juan Guzman
Great nature park. Great for walks, sightseeing and photography.
Andrea Burton
This is one of my favorite places in Florida. Beautiful hiking trails.
keith bingaman
Shady sites are wooded and clean. No long term "campers". Very rural area but easy to get to Tampa. the pool is closed but looks to be one of the largest free-form pools in a campground.
Nicole Robbins
Beautiful park, great hiking trails lots of wildlife. Picnic shelters and several tables along the main trail. Pet friendly. We plan on trying the campground this fall. Small store on site with essential items available as well as made to order food.
Cory Runnels
Great park, fun trails, enjoyable views, wish you could swim in river though!
Nye Y.
My favorite location for a beautiful nature walk
Tamera Lanier (Gaga)
Amazing camping area clean, quite, perfect!
Ken Kates
One of the Great State Parks to visit and go hiking and to go camping in...
Santina Hill
We just returned from a 6 day camping trip at Hillsborough River State Park. The campsite was very spacious and you didn't feel right on top of your neighbors. The restrooms are in need of some updating but are adequate if you do not have small children. We enjoyed the trails and the playgrounds. The pool looked lovely but I would stay away especially if you have small children. The temperature of the water is beyond freezing and when we were packing up to go back to our campsite we saw vultures wading in the handicap section, within 30 minutes of swimming in it our entire 6 person family became very sick with vomiting and diarrhea. It was the worst night of our lives. We already put in a complaint with the state park but also the health department. The health department assured me the pool is safe but he would go check it out just to make sure. Great park, just be cautious of the pool.
Sam Harden
Really nice state park with good hiking trails along the head of the Hillsborough River. Be prepared, though, with bug spray and waterproof boots if it's raining. The mosquitoes are intense pretty much everywhere in the park.
There are 2 playgrounds, pavilions, and a lot of wildlife if you know where to look.
Craig McCloskey
Great park for hiking and sight seeing.
Kellys Collectables
Very nice park with lots to do..
Edwin Flores
A nice place to explore during the really morning until lunch. You're basically yourself walking throu the trails. Do not be shy and venture a little off the paths, you'll find treasures of bountiful views and unseen beauty of nature. There are plenty of facilities and amenities for novice explorers. Kayak rentals available, several levels of camping areas available, fresh water swimming pool, and a shop if you forget little things you need or need a snack or water. The recreational area has a play ground for the kiddos, and cooking areas some with a roof over top the eating area. I quite enjoyed this place, hopefully you decide to check this place out and enjoy everything this place has to offer.
Gary Scalise
Great get away, many walking trails. Canoeing on the river. Restaurant with a good selection on the menu.
Mark and LeAnn Chrisman
Great area to visit and beautiful scenery.
Robert Dalga
Several sites are relatively tight (i.e. not easy for big rigs). Lots of trees and if it rains plan on a muddy campsite.
L White
Another once fabulous State Park suffering from apparent Budget cuts. Needs a near total overhaul of updating/improvements. Only the massive pool seems to be in fair shape. Campground, roads, trails, signage, overall maintenance are all in poor condition. Still recommend visiting though as it still has lots to enjoy.
Rachel
This is a beautiful park surrounding the Hillsborough River. It's quite dog-friendly, if you're into that. There are shaded hiking trails and it's really pretty.
There are a few playgrounds throughout the park and there is a large pool as well.
Megan Hamm
Absolute beauty with amazing campgrounds. Well worth the drive and enjoyment of the kayaking adventures. Has a pool for the kids which is cool. Plenty of parking and rentals for parties. I even saw gators and a deer.
Craig Tarr
Another nice state park. There is not a single parking area, but 5 unique parking locations that make it easy to see unique features.
The youth/primitive area is not easily accessible due to a gate & lock.
Pool looks really enjoyable for the summer months.
Was able to walk to the class 2 rapids. Only ones in the state. The launch was closed on my visit, too slippery?? Disappointing to say the least.
The interpretative area has a lot of unique artifacts and stories.
Doug Gross
The suspension bridge is really cool and we really enjoyed the Barnyard trail. There are also plenty of spots for a picnic. Keep in mind that as of late October 2020, the pool and playground are closed for covid-19.
Edgar Self
We really enjoyed our stay at the park, even through it rains most of Labor Day weekend. It wasn't very crowded as several of the camp sites were underwater. The park has a huge swimming pool. There is a $4.00 entrance fee,but it is well worth it.Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. We will definitely camp here again.
katrina Loverose
I love this park been going here for years many years and it's very peaceful and beautiful
Jay Thomas
Really nice walking trails and good scenery. Saw a gator on the banks while we were there. Some trails parallel the river banks.
Monica Borodi
Love this place, but do yourself a favor, Google the busy times.. and the least busy times.. because if you're looking to have a peaceful walk in nature, and you're trapped on a trail with half dozen screaming kids, you will not see any wildlife.
Bambi Skye
Took my boyfriend yesterday bc he had never been. I haven’t been in many years maybe 10 but I remember the trails as easy to walk but pretty sights winding w the river the whole way. Yesterday I realized how much I missed the park. The clear water, rapids and occasional alligator were a very nice change to quarentine.
Chanel Anderson
I'm an avid hiker and this is one of my favorite places. It can get crowded but if you go on a slow day [I suggest a weekday], the Florida trail is amazing. It can get crazy muddy if it's been raining but if you start to the right you fight through the muck & end up riverside for the last half of the hike. Totally worth it. Theres also a great suspension bridge, a rapids trail and a pool. Something for everyone.
Ryan Ploeger
The Baynard Trail and Florida Trail along the river were nice. Safely saw a large alligator and a small one. You can see the fish and the bottom through the clear water. Saw many people kayaking and fishing. The Florida Trail could use a little cutting back as some parts were pretty tight. Lots of tree roots so wear proper shoes. The trail map they gave out at the gate could use some improvements though.
Walter Mehlig
Very nice park. We camped here for a long weekend. Great campsites, nice and shaddy and facilities are clean. We loved the trails even thought the big trail along the river, the back side was flooded with ankle deep water..but it just added to the adventure. My 9yr old son was thrilled to be able to trek through the water and mud, my older daughter not so much....lol. To me this was the funnest hike I have done with the family. There is still more to explore! We'll be back!
Jill Luppowitz
Beautiful campsites. Lots of shaded campsites. Many have brush inbetween the sites for privacy. My husband and I come here every year. We don't care for RV resorts. They are like parking lots with campsites. But not here. We love this place! Also love the hiking trails along the water.
Ed Weislo
Great camping areas, nice restrooms and showers. Camped 20 feet from the river. Trails along the river to the rapids are very scenic as is most of this place. The only advice I would give is that if you camp in the wet season the mosquitoes will carry you away. Lived in Florida all my life and they are exceptionally thick here.
Betty Newcomb
Awesome Park love the trails love the pool. Upon arrival I found out the staff wasn't communicating and I was held up to park due to my camper door on my drivers side so finally they decide I cannot pull in to be on the correct side of camp site with the way my door opens. So I had little site left and had to have Ranger help me open awning because it was hitting the electric box and my sitting area also had a water spice and facing right into my neighbors front door but I made the best of it. I have traveled to many many parts and I have never been told I couldn't pull in backwards meaning pulling into my site rather than backing in due to my door being on the opposite side I do pull a horse trailer but I also stay in it without horses in order to Camp with my family and friends upon leaving I will tell you one of the Rangers told me next time just pull in so there is a lack of communication in that park.
zohre nemati
It is a very nice place for hiking. I don't like it much for biking because the road is narrow and shared with cars. There are shelters and grills and two play ground around. The entrance fee is $6 per vehicle. There is a place to rent kayaks and bikes inside the park.
gene henry
This is an amazing park! The wildlife and natural settings are remarkable and the park allows you to explore on improved and on some wilderness trails! It's great for everyone! Enjoy!
Vanessa Deshesky
They park was empty because of the hurricane. Every I guess was preping. The staff was very friendly at the pool food stand. We were searching for a fountain but they were at another area but when we were done in the restrooms the gentleman had ice water cups for us waiting 😊. It was our first time walking the trails and we were not prepared to with mosquito spray. So be sure to bring it if you go after alot of rain. Very clean and inviting.
Elke Tucker
Nice trails, spacious RV sites, very well kept. Family friendly. Rangers were very helpful, and the cost for our motorhome was very reasonable at $27.50 with electric and water hookup.
Definitely would stay again when in the area.
Karen McHenry
Most of the camping spots were too close together. Park was clean. I give 3 stars for the cramped feeling and the campers across the street would leave their 2 dogs all day and the dogs barked non stop. For 4 days of this i could see nothing was being done about the noise. Even after complaints by camp host4 spots away. Park is very wooded so lots of shade. It is April and we were constantly being attacked by catapillars. I have 3 bites.
Tina Spruill
We always enjoy coming to Hillsborough River State Park. Very peaceful and well maintained.
Our favorite time to come is for their Halloween event. Great time to camp here too. The park offers hay rides through the camp ground and campers decorate their lots and hand out candy, if they are so inclined.
Fun!
Pam pam
We loved this park. RV sites are great, lots of shade and some sun. We recently purchased bicycles to get around and the trails for bicycles were plentiful. Beautiful scenery. Quiet campground. We will definitely come back here!
Vern P
Nice park. Enjoyed our stay. Be aware that some RV spots are much smaller than others, choose wisely ;-).
Huge pool, nice walking trail. Class 2 rapids...I think not, but it was funny.
Juan Alzate
A snapshot of old Florida this place has old centenary Cypresses , beautiful trails and fresh air to breath:)
Matthew Pabich
How the whole payment system works is lame. Pay for a campsite, then pay to get to the campsite. Annual pass? Everyone else in the car has to pay. So much security, not exactly what I want on an excursion into nature. The park itself is nice.
The Beach Today
One of the best (Little Manatee River) Tampa Bay area parks. Get their early in the day and the year, bugs are bad May to October
Mariusz Eligiusz Rawski
Beautiful park You have to see when You visit Tampa.
Manny Marquez
Very beautiful and clean! Love trail walks and this is a great escape to enjoy peace and serenity. Absolutely wonderful experience for kids of all ages.
Steven Bruggeman
Nice clean restrooms, clean sites and friendly campers
Onion Child
Camping nice people but two many raccoons nice spot too fish with family this is where i caught some fish⬇
Naveen Chand
Was crowded during the Easter weekend. But we have been here before when it wasn't crowded. Lots of shelters and play areas. Bicycles and Kayaks available for rent. There is a swimming pool, RV parking and camping areas which we didn't visit. Had a bad experience of a break in one of our cars. That was a sour note..
M Bailey
Pretty place for a hike and to take pictures
Suhas Gangadhara
One of the best places to enjoy nature. Kayaking at Hillsborough river is one of my favorite pass time events. Apart from kayaking, this park offers good walks on boards with really pretty views. The view point overlooks all the Canoe and kayaking people with good view in the background. Took walks around the walkway several times and would definitely recommend for others.
Christian Cruz
Great park. Nice hiking trails and lots of beautiful scenery. The park has other amenities like playgrounds, picnic area, gift shop, snack shop, pool, and areas for camping. Will definitely be back.
Dennis Rich
I really want to give the park 5 stars but I can't with the current issues. The camp grounds, hiking, and canoeing are all great and worth the ride to the park but if you are expecting to use the pool or see Fort Foster you can forget about it. The pool, rental, and concession area are ran by some private company. It is currently April and 75 degrees out yet the pool is closed... Whenever the pool is open the company that runs concessions frequently closes it for any particular reason so finding a time when it's actually open is difficult. If you call and ask ahead if the pool is open you will be greeted by a very rude concessions employee on the other end. Now on to Fort Foster. The park used to have daily tours where you would have to take a tram (if the one Ranger with a CDL happens to be working) or a van which fills up quickly across the street to the Fort for a Ranger led tour. So instead of just stationing a Ranger on site at the Fort and having people drive themselves there they used this nonsense system. Well they have made it even worse, now you can only visit the Fort on Thursdays at 10:30 AM... So you may ask yourself "why can't I just go to the Fort myself with out a guided tour like I can do at most other national and state historic sites?". According to the park service the historic site is too sensitive to not have ranger led tours. That's all well and good but here's the kicker, the Fort is not original it's a replica... If something is damaged it can be repaired with materials from any hardware store and nothing of historical significance is lost.
Matt S
Roads need rapacing and camp grounds sit too close to the water table. Rain keeps roots near the surface so be prepared to clean once you get home
Denise D
Beautiful place and 9 out of 10 times you will see an alligator on the banks of the river.
Victoria Dallam
Our family loves this beautiful park, one of our local favorites
Zarrin Ahmed
Beautiful park with great trails that span the river. Views of turtles, alligators, birds, fish, etc. Could see clearly into amazing water during the day. Stopped into the clubhouse: food prices were reasonable.
neysha ramos
My 3 stars go to the park, however the pool I rate a 1. It was our first time here with our little one and I was excited to take her to the pool, sadly the pool is so dirty. Tons of dead bugs, leaves and dirt at the bottom of the pool. I was shocked at how such a nice park could let this not be kept up daily especially on a Monday. Also, beware of the squirrels over by the shady corner they were climbing all over our chairs trying to get into our bags. Our last straw was when the vulture jumped in the pool for a quick bath. We had already paid so we stayed, but we will not be back to the pool.
J Nesvacil
The park was excellent! Unfortunately many of the amenities are closed (pool, canoe/kayak rental, foot bridge, etc) and still charging the full $6 for entry.
Ray Heskin
We brought our kayaks and hiked them down the rapids trail and a few hundred yards upstream. Put in above some little rapids. They aren't big at at but they were the fastest and funnest part of the trip. We had a couple small sets of rapids early in the trip. We were on the water from about 1130-230 on a nice day at the end of March. We paddled down to the camp ground at the end of Hillsborough, ate at some benches there and then continued down another fifteen minutes or so before coming back and pulling out at the camp ground. We spotted three alligators, a few turtles and lots of catfish in the mostly crystal clear water.
R K
Beautiful and clean. Nice walkways. Not too crowded
Jessica Poulin
Amazing! The volunteers really make this place special! They have a great playground, pool and trails. We take our 6 year old daughter and dog, and we all feel at home and comfortable.
Outdoor Survivalists
EASILY my favorite local park for car camping or hiking & primitive camping! I've been coming here since high school and it's always a great place to relax out in nature. Keep in mind, to book car camping sites, you have to do it through Reserve America. For the primitive sites, you must call the ranger station to request to reserve a site.
Jeff Gilhooly
Great for camping. We had a large spot for our tent. Lots of walking trails, a huge pool and even a restaurant. We saw lots of wildlife, birds, armadillos and deer. Highly recommend!
Lance Robaldo
Still a great park and campground.
But campground is really starting to show its age. Picnic tables are all in desperate need of replacement. Dump station, while fully functional, needs a major upgrade. Park buildings all in various states of disrepair. Pool was green.
Kimberly Kubek
Mosquitos! Bring your spray, Im not usually too bothered by them, but they were relentless. Hike trail was obvious, but not well marked for good location detection. We were trying to get to the alternate path to basically go back and it was a pain to find with service roads and such nit marked well on our map. We forgot its a holiday weekend, and it was very busy and noisy. We’ll try to get back to nature later in the year when there might be less human signature so we can enjoy the peace of being in the outdoors.
B
Early December and the mosquitoes were still bad, park employees were friendly. My kids participated in the Florida junior ranger program. We looked at the camping grounds, many spots were next to mosquito infested swampy marsh lands. Was clean but not seemingly private. Suspension bridge is open again on the river trail. Lots of people using pavilions,
ryan ipp
Beautiful park only bad things When you try to call the Office / Ranger station it just rings and rings !! it’s hard to get in for camping here when the Snowbirds are here October to April!! They need to Add more camping sites for Rv campers !! Would be good if they added more camp site for RVs campers that had no water or power on the sites and let those site be cheaper like $ 15 bucks a night or have all the camp sites for RVs and made a Area for tents
Carmen Camacho
I visited the park 1 day ago.and it was so impressive.I can see myself going back there very often.the place is very clean and the trails are very easy to follow.plus the scenery is breathtaking.for those who like nature.its a must go place.
David Bolster
The section of trail on the far side of the suspended bridge was very muddy today. Other than that it was a very peaceful quiet place to hike.

Loved it here! Really nice little escape from the day to day Tampa proper region. Lush, and riddled with natural palm trees, The Hillsborough River State Park aka, The Real Florida” is a great place to visit!

Very nice park to stroll, bike, fish, kayak/canoe, or hike. Pool and rentals are closed right now.

Love coming here with my family. We enjoy the trails and walking along the Hillsborough river. We are planning a trip with our motor home to stay on site sometime this year. We love their Halloween event.

Great place to hike. There is a small ~1 mile loop trail as well as 4 mile trail. Wonderful views, great infrastructure for a family picnic as well.

A large range of options to include a pool, hiking trails, camping and kayaking to name some of the things you can do here. The pool has a shallow entry on all sides that is nice for kids. Parking can get crowded.
Patricia Leitner
Although it is beautiful and camping is great, know that they no longer have golf cart rentals and call before going to the pool. In my lifetime, we have only been able to go once, it always seems to be under maintenance.

We camped here for a week and it was great. I did not give it 5 stars because having to drive 2.5 miles in one direction around their loop everytime you want to go somewhere was kind of stupid. Also, this is the first park I have been in where the majority of it is pretty inaccessible and that was strange too, the actual area you can go without bush whacking is a tiny portion of whats out there. Maybe that is a good thing but it would be nice if what was accessible was open. The suspension bridge is closed, another foot bridge on the florida trail has a tree that fell through it and they had a staffing issue so the fort was also not open. BUT this place is still worth visiting, they have rapids in the river and we saw deer just about everyday we were there. Just bring bug spray and be ready for some legit hikes, like mud and crotch high water crossing if you really want to see the whole park. If you are visiting for just one day this place is perfect, plus their pool is amazing.

This is a great park for camping, hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking. Large swimming pool (seasonal) and gift shop/camp store. Lock up your food at night as the raccoons are quite talented at accessing the goodies!
Michael Dow
Lots of hiking. Beautiful river. Bring spray.

We did the Haunted Woods here and there were alot of people. The setup was nice, the scary tour was crazy. They did a great job. Will definitely come again. Issues were: payment line to get in (should notify on advertisement that cash only and cost for adults), The multiple lines ( Very difficult to determine which line was for what, so many people and no directional signs), Sell flashlights ( This place was really dark, although we had our own flashlights...thy could've made more money by selling this item as well), The kid tram ride ran out of candy early. Overall a great experience. Do the tram ride first. They had a music space for DJ and dancing which was really nice. Didn't buy a food ticket, didn't look that appetizing.

No state park store. Have a building and pool that are closed

Beautiful little hike if you're in need of an escape from the hustle and bustle of Tampa.
Marie Kennison
Beautiful park with nice campground . We didn't stay long enough and will need to return.
Carla Scott
Very nice state park. Staff was friendly at the gate. The campsite was great and very pretty. We did a quick one night stay but highly recommend for a long stay.

Beautiful park with many trails. Way more than i can walk in 1 day. My only complaint is that they make you keep your dogs on a leash, which is standard for parks here but a bummer anyway.
DavidMelanie Dieppa
Great state park! Camp grounds are very well kept. "River Rapids" are really neat considering there are very few elevation changes in Florida. Kids loved the River trail. A must see.
Crystal Smith
I have been coming to this park for years and always have fun. I love the trails and the rapids, although I never went down the rapids but its beautiful. If you bring your bikes its a great ride and workout.
Nicholas Durocher
My family walked the walking trail one afternoon. It is about 1 mile in total and makes a large loop. There are several plaques throughout that give information about the different wildlife that habitat that area. Beautiful and fun.
Chris N Shane Howard
nice campground and great place to go biking or hiking. bring your own kayak or canoe or rent them there. I didn't have much success fishing there though, but beautiful park.
SHOILEE A
One of my most favorite parks.
As a visitor myself, a request to all the other visitors, please sustain and maintain the beauty of the park for next many 100 years.
This park is a treasure for all of us today and for all the generations of tomorrow. So, let us all protect and preserve it. When I am in the park, in nature, I turn off my cell phone.
I want the birds, the bees, and the wind to talk to me instead. Peace and love to all.

My favorite park in Tampa! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this already since I have been raving about this place to anyone that lives here. Seriously if you live in Tampa this is a must visit. Hours of hiking trails, bike rentals, canoe/kayak rentals... Just beautiful nature. If you want to feel peaceful this is the place to go! Love love it

Awesome place to go on a hike in nature and get away from people. They have a huge pool that you can pay to use, they have snacks and ice cream as well. Huge playground for the kids.
Marilyn Beeding

Beautiful hiking area

Found this lovely park on the last day of my holiday and it was the perfect place to go before my flight back to the UK. Gutted I only got to spend a couple of hours there but it'll be on my list for next time. On the plus side I did spot an alligator within half an hour of being there, we saw lots of other wildlife too.

The Hillsborough River State Park has excellent recreational opportunities in the greater Tampa area. This watershed along the Hillsborough River Basin is an important natural feature in preserving our water quality and in the prevention of flooding. The area offers a variety of recreational opportunities including hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and camping. This area is an excellent place to view a variety of natural flora and fauna native to this area. A must see for any nature enthusiast.

My fiancé and I went camping here for one night and I made the reservation. It was wonderful; beautiful sites, great accommodations. Everything went smoothly getting into the park and to our campsite. We loved camping here so much that we wanted to go again.
This time, my fiancé made the reservation. When we got to the park, the ranger asked for his ID. I found it odd considering they didn't ask for my ID. I'm not saying the ranger was being a little racist, but I'm white and my fiancé is Hispanic. It definitely put a damper on our visit.
Jim Shepherd
The campground is what I would call rustic even comparing it to other state parks such as Silver Springs, Stephen Foster, Top Sail Hill Preserve. Most sites are dirt and dusty. A. few sites are improved with gravel.
Rachel Wickliffe
Great Place for walking!! Go to Lot 2 and 3!!
Rachael Ebner
My friends and I had a wonderful time hiking and having a picnic.
Logan Clark
Beautiful. But bring your bug spray
Harry Nichols
Nature lovers playground hiking fishing kayak rentals and camp ground picnic areas too
Kelly McKay
Pool was closed but the trails were beautiful! They led you along the river, which was the most crystal clear river I've ever seen in this part of the state. Wonderful and worth a visit for the trails and nature.
Berthania Carswell
Great state park with picnic areas and hiking trails.
Mark Bilodeau
if your looking for an adventure, you may want to consider this park. They have nature trails, Rapids, Swinging Bridge, Fishing area, Paddle Boat and Canoe & Kayak rentals for your water adventure { look out for the gators }
Alena Giammona
Park was clean and had many spots for picnics. No wildlife was seen, no turtles or gators.
Molly Meadows
Great place to ride bike. Wish the swimming/wading pool was up and running. Being said there is a mechanical issue and will not be up again till 2023.

Been coming here for years before the pool was closed for repairs, always had a good time. Came back with the granchildren recently and found out no only do you have to pay $4.00 for the pool (which used to be 50 cents; but there is now a 'pool limit' which apparently even covers people in the area, but not actually in the pool. So if you leave to eat - you may not get back in without standing in line (40 minutes!) before re-entry. There should be a better way of doing this; it's hard to explain to the little ones why they have to stand around in the hot sun instead of being back in the pool!
Stephen Lindow
We've been to 6-8 parks all over the bay area. HRiver State park was a phenomenal change. Great boardwalks and side distractions.
The Singing Pirate
Great camping facility. Great kayaking!
jhoan correa
Amazing State Park. Took me 3 hours to do Rapids Trail, Baynard Trail and the Seminole Trail and this was just half of the park.
Sherry Ann Baker
Bass fishing is all I done and it was so fun and exciting talk about one with nature i have awe alligator photos ill post soon as I find loved it! Was difficult getting in or out with the boats
Barbara Smith
Oh my God, we took our 2 grandkids (ages 3 & 4) to the pool! They had so much fun, and of course we forgot their floaties and went inside the store and bought the arm floaties and a star shaped and a round sit on floaties. They were very reasonably priced too. I got all four floaties and drinks for everyone and it was only $24.....I was very pleasantly surprised! I recommend this place everyone that want to swim and relax at the pool...
Richard M Parrish
Great place to walk, run, ride a bike and fish. You can even canoe or kayak as well.
Taleaha Nunez
Camped here over New Years 2020. Camping spots are very shaded and roomy. Great hiking trails. Will definitely come back!
Sean Tedio
Great hiking. Make sure to check out the rapids. Very neat to see rapids in Florida. The bridge that crosses the river is also very cool.
