Reviews of Lamoine State Park
Susan O.
The Park allows you to reserve a campsite in advance or some walkins available. The sites come in various sizes and there are walk-in tent sites. Can walk to the water. There are restrooms and showers available. Campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Firewood is available to purchase. We had a medium sized site on a corner. Not as private as we would have liked but all-in-all a good experience.
Kay Dubs
Great park and campground. Beautiful views of the ocean. Lots of picnic tables by the ocean separate from the campground that are great for day use. Facilities at the campground are clean and well kept. Nice loop trail through the woods that is good for dogs. Also has a playground and a nice tree house in the woods. We've tent camped at site 42 and 57 and both were great. 57 has amazing views of the ocean.
Y BAE
Clean and well managed park. Camp sites are quiet and showers are clean. Trails along side the sea side has a nice view.
Mark Weaver
Good place to stay when visiting Acadia National Park. Lamoine Beach is close by and scenic. Lots of roses, but they seem to attract the mosquitoes. Left just a few in the campground, though.
Lauren Boyce
The campsites are great, the facilities are good (private showers and actual toilets work well) and about 40 minutes from Acadia. Verizon had great coverage here and we were able to work remotely during our stay. We got a site with an ocean view and it was one of the best campsites we have ever had. This campground loses a star for the skunks. They are everywhere once it gets dark. We didn’t go a single night without seeing one, some nights they visited our site up to 5 times while we were having a fire. They sprayed 2 different pups during our stay and I would be weary bringing a dog around with so many skunks.
Kathy Connor
This is a clean well-run state park and campground. Sites are taken care of and many are spaced apart for privacy. Many sites are level and all have a fire ring or some sort. Bath house is clean and kept stocked with TP. There are outhouses for campsites that are more remotely located. Near the bath house is a kiosk where information about the campground and surrounding preserves for hiking and boating can be found. There is also a shed where firewood can be purchased when available (the main gate also has firewood for sale). The proximity to Acadia is good - you can be there in less than 30 minutes so day tripping is easy. In addition, Lamoine Beach (swimming and sand) is a few minutes away by car. The campground is right on the ocean (Frenchman's Bay) and a select group of campsites are across the road with water views. The land adjacent to the bay is a public picnic area with a large grassy meadow and picnic tables. We stayed for four nights in mid-June. There are two things to be aware of: 1) if you stay, like we did, in a campsite near the bath house (not the site in the photo), the flush toilets are quite loud ; and 2) the campground is, unfortunately, directly in the flight path of the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport. Given the number of celebrities and upper echelon income residents who own homes in the area, the air traffic is considerable with both private and public aircraft landing.
Mary Unger
What fun staying in the TentRR. Bunkbeds with noisy air mattresses. Wood stove in tent. Campfire with a tiny kitchenette outside. ADK chairs. Lobster men wake you up early in (Bar Harbor) inlet nearby. Bought firewood on roadside heading into park $2/bundle. Its $6 in park. Stars were amazing!
Tom N.
Lovely state park. Sites can be a bit challenging to park an Airstream but if you take it slow you will be okay.
Jeffrey Pettit
Primitive & R/V spaces but not electrical hookups. Plenty of spaces. Check website for dates of operation. Great view of bay
kelly hurst
Very beautiful park on the ocean. Decent showers, hot water. Electricity in bathroom for blow dryer and hair care. Lots to see and do in the area. Overall great visit and friendly staff.
Myriah Thebarge
Such a beautiful park with a great water front
Stephen Luz
Excellent place to jump in the water for a new years day dip.
Ethan Harrison
Lamoine state park is a hidden gem in south east Maine. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and the caretaker is very nice. Also, you can have wood delivered to your campsite (which is less than a 2 minute walk from the beach) for only $5 a bundle. The sunsets are as beautiful as the water. I definitely recommend coming here and I look forward to coming here again.
Dan Carbonneau
Great state park campground. All primitive sites. Nice bathhouse with Showers and dishwashing station centrally located. Also located right on the ocean with beautiful views of mount desert narrows
Roberto Pineyro
Fantastic place!
I'm the type of camper always looking for free places where to pop up my camper, but Lemoine was like an indulgi
Definitely going back there
Jeff H™
Wonderful park to spend the day
Monique Crowley
Went during mud season, everything is still a little unstable, so watch your footing. Nice place to go and gather your thoughts. Not sure how it will be during summer.
Kariane Parisien
We loved our stay there. Bathrooms were great, individual showers! The site was really private in the woods! About 40 minutes from Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. We will definitely go back :)
Debbie Thiercof
Nice state park. There are no hookups. We had a big, grassy site. It's close to the bay. Rangers are very friendly and helpful. This was close enough to Acadia National Park that we could drive there in our tow vehicle and explore and then drive back.
Nate Wooding
Perfect location if you want to visit Acadia but don't want to deal with crowded campsites and national park prices. Not to mention the area around Lamoine is very nice.
Samantha Gorski
Stayed at the campground for one night before heading home from vacation. The sites all seemed to be good sizes, the park staff was very friendly, showers were free, AND there was a dish washing area. After going to other state parks in Rhode Island and New Hampshire, having free showers and a place to wash dishes almost earns Lamoine five stars.
But then the skunks came out…. Right around sun down, skunks started just going to (seemingly) every occupied campsite. We had several that would not leave our area and kept coming very close— they had no fear of people. After deciding that the skunks were too persistent and almost aggressive, we started packing up our belongings into the car. While we were doing this, a skunk started dragging away our trash bag! I’ve never seen wildlife at a campground behave like this in all my years of camping.
clairanne preble
Quiet, pretty park with a beautiful ocean view. The group site "A" is great!
Shelly Coyne
Quaint, clean park with picnic tables, Mountain View’s, piers, boat ramp, parking for car and trailer. Great campground that’s always busy.
Kathy Olena
It's nice to walk down to the waters edge. I like the sour apples. They only have 1 trail . $ 6.00 per person.
Walt Bankes
I attended a week long regatta here in 2011.
I was called The Small Reach Regatta and about 50 traditional small sailboats and oar powered boats participated.
We used the large space for group camping and many of the individual camp sites.
All of the facilities were extensive and well maintained.
There was a bathhouse with hot showers.
The docking and beaching for all of these boats was perfect.
The campground was quiet at night.
This is a really nice park and Maine has done very well at providing a top notch park.
Victoria Venable
Great clean campground with beautiful views and spacious sites. Highly recommend and would love to come back!
Anne Hohenstein
Relatively uncrowded, even on a hot day. Gorgeous views, pebbled to rocky beach. Boat launch. Fee to enter for some. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Shaina Stamper
Definitely not one of the better SP campgrounds I have been too. It doesn't seem well maintained. The fire pit was broken. The previous campers before us didn't drown their fire, so when we went to start our fire the first night there, the fire started as soon as we laid our kindling down! Not cool! Also they left a pile of dog food in the middle of the site. There is an RV, who appears to reside in the campground for longer periods of time (who isn't the host) with a large chain link fence around his area with multiple loud, most likely, hunting dogs, who bark and bay a lot.
I know this isn't all the fault of the park, but they should check sites post-check-out for things like this. Keeping track of who comes in and out of their areas is a must.
Probably wouldn't stay here again.
Tabetha Grover
Very clean restrooms at the actual park and the boat launch is great! The view is beautiful as well.
Yair Hirschfeld
Absolutely awesome campground. Nice facilities beautiful quiet area. Very clean
Gayle Patria DiMasi
Such a quiet campground with such nice people running it!
Rhyle Stull
Just stopped with our RV to dump the black tank. $20 fee. Very quick and easy. Also had potable water available
Georgia Fliger
Very roomy camping lots, some were huge. Excellent prices. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were on our motorcycle and couldn't haul wood. Rangers were happy to deliver it to our campsite for free. They even helped us unload it! Views of the water.
Glynnes
This is an inexpensive way to stay close to Acadia without paying an arm and a leg. Nice individual showers with hot water and good restrooms. Our campsite had a fire pit, not sure if that is standard. Also right down the road from Lamoine Beach, a nice local park with a good beach and grills and picnic tables. I saw many live starfish there.
Corinne Ouellette
We loved it there and if you drive a little ways up the road from there you can enjoy swimming and kayaking at a beach with lots of free parking. Only wish they would have let us camp down on the water and not up on a tiny lot up on the hill. Maybe next time .
Bill V
Quiet place. Nice sites, feel quite private. Bathhouse very clean. Free hot showers with good water pressure! (A bit dark in there, could use some white lights). (Dark spots on shower bench are just from water, very clean)
Park is close enough to stay at while visiting Acadia.
Connor Fanks
Very nice view of the bay and nice warm showers at the campground.
Colin Garner
I had a very nice stay here at the campground. The campsite was well maintained and clean. The bathrooms and showers were also well maintained by the hosts and staff. Pretty views of MDI from the shore front sites.
N. Shantia Wright-Gray
The grounds are beautiful. There is a nice woodsy growth between most sites. There's a loop walk around the park with Information about the careful maintenance of the grounds.
There's a grassy place near Frenchman's Bay to sit and read or enjoy a meal at the picnic tables.
But the bathrooms and showers were a not in good shape. A couple of the showers (around the outside of the building) had no functioning locks. One of the women's toilets had no functioning lock. There are 4 toilet stalls in the women's bathroom and 2 of them are out of order (supposedly backordered parts).
There are only 2 rolls of toilet paper in each stall, so at night there was no paper (and no paper towels).
This is the wash house/bathroom for 60 campsites. There are some scattering of outhouses covered with spider webs along the floor, empty hand sanitizer and limited toilet paper.
The women's room floor was cleaned along the travel path but behind the toilets was filthy, there were occasional leaves and clumps of pine needles and grass around the edges and between the stalls.
I had heard so much about Lamoine - I was very disappointed.
Summer Cornetta-Webb
Dog friendly! Playground was completely empty, if a bit out of upkeep (but I did see someone there working on things, so maybe that’s changed). Nice play to take the baby & dog to run around and with the campground closed right now, we basically have the place to ourselves. Wish there was a second parking spot though. It can be a long walk down to the water with a baby & pup on my own.
Nikhil P
It's hard to get campus sites in the Acadia campgrounds and I'm glad I found Lamoine. Perfect campground for anyone visiting Acadia. Beautiful views of Mount Desert Island and Cadillac mountain across Frenchman Bay. The parks sits on Frenchman's Bay. It is small but that is its only drawback if at all a drawback. Good restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets.
Kathleen Parker
Our first site was listed as Large, but we couldn’t fit our 28’ motor home on it. We were able to move to a different site which was better. One of the park rangers was Christine…..she was EXTREMELY pleasant and very helpful. It seemed like she was always on duty, but was always cheerful and pleasant. Thanks, Christine!
Dan Deschenes
Lamoine State Park claims to be dog friendly. Albeit maybe a little too friendly. Too many barking dogs a not enough responsible owners. There is definitely a need for electric power at the campsites to cut down on the use of noisy generators. No staff on duty in the evening to address issues.
Lorene Bauernschmidt
Gorgeous views, clean facilities and friendly staff, what else would you want from a state park? Will definitely come back
S Potter
A nice, quiet campground, the rangers are very nice, friendly & helpful, beautiful area. Gets busy on the weekend, we came in on Thursday & the place was half empty, Saturday night it filled up almost full. Camp during the week if you want to avoid the crowds. The road to the state park is not in great shape, be prepared to go pretty slow to avoid bottoming out your vehicle. Oh, and the beach down the road is gorgeous!
Jeff Thurston
We were only able to spend a short time here, but the park has what appear to be lots of good camping sites. The dock area scenery is memorable along with the sounds and scents of coastal Maine. It's remoteness is also great, with no urban sounds whatsoever.
Adam Molnar
Beautiful, quiet, park. Very helpful staff. Would have loved to have stayed longer.
Hannah Keogh-Dwyer
This campground is definitely one of my favorites! Thankful to pull in and grab a site without having to reserve ahead of time. Lay out spaced for privacy, on the ocean. Highly recommend.
Melissa Lutz
Nice campground with nice sized sites and helpful staff. Bath house is clean. Nice playground and sand volleyball court. Nice beachfront areas. Most sites save some trees for shade. Would definitely stay here again!!!
Sandra Dwight-Barris
We had reserved a space, number 62, which was supposed to be a medium size site. We were disappointed to find that it was very small and tight. It is definitely not a medium site by any means. We have been camping at Maine state parks for many years now and this does not qualify as medium. It should be reposted as a small campsite in our opinion. Outside of that, we were very happy with Lamoine and the staff.
Andrew T.
Great state park located near Acadia NP! Camped here for my visit to the area as it is much quieter than other camp sites in the area. Views from the beach are wonderful. Beware skunks are kind of a pain here and when I was sitting at my campfire or laying in my tent I could hear them walking around. Didn’t have any problems with them but I’m sure they have run ins with humans which could make an unpleasant experience.
Doreen Jones
Very nice primitive campground. Trees between lots. Bathroom's need some work. Some showers and toilets were out of order. The ones that worked we're fine
Lucas Houk
I agree! Best kept secret. All the national park campgrounds Are landlocked in the trees. This one is right on the water. Camped with the family. Fresh water spigots through the campground. Free hot water showers. Nice flush able bathrooms. Sinks for cleaning dishes. Firewood for sale. Costs a bit more. We picked up a bundle off a roadside stand for cheaper, but bought a second bundle there. Quick 15 min ride over to mt desert island. Playground and tree house for kids. Just lovely.
Josie Byron
We had a blast between fishing, and looking at shells. We saw some crabs, and over 30 live starfish near the dock. There is a playground as well that we plan to take the kids on when we bring them next time. And plenty of grassy areas and picnic table and a charcoal grill and I'm sure more stuff we didn't even get to. No outdoor plumbing in the toilet (outhouse), bring hand sanitizer.
Danielle Bullen
Not too crowded, and with good water and beautiful trees. Thankful to have found this spot last minute because spot 16 was perfect for our hammock camping.
Stephanie Pineiro
Stayed here during our visit to Acadia National Park, it is away from the crowds and in a great location! The campground is beautiful, great views, and nice facilities. But just a warning: we roasted marshmallows during our first night and had several unwanted visitors...skunks! We saw them throughout the campground but they didn't bother with us the following night because we left the mallows in the car. We weren't really able to relax and unwind worrying about critters joining us around the fire...
Mychael Kostiuk
For a tent camper it is perfect. No hookups for camper vans or trailers though. I would give this place a 90% score, therefore the Five Star rating. Good sites with some on the edge of Frenchman’s Bay. Those close to the water may hear the Lobster Men loading their boats early in the morning. So if you are a light sleeper you might prefer a site a row or two back from Frenchman’s Bay. Hot showers and flush toilets. Very helpful and friendly staff. Nearby boat launch and floating pier where the local seals will steal the fish off of your line. This is a great area for kayaking, bicycling, hiking. Swimming, touring shopping etc.
George Webster
This has got to be the nicest State Park I have ever visited. It is not primitive, but extremely well maintained with exceptionally private sites. We were lucky enough to get one right on the water, with one of the most awesome views of the Narrows, with the mountains of Acadia National Park in the background. One word of warning, though....You will not be able to forage for firewood....dead limbs are pruned, standing dead and fallen trees removed. Potable water available throughout the park is very good. Piers and Boat Landings are very close to this kayaker's paridise, and the fishing excellent! Hiking trails were mulched, and easy to follow. Bathrooms were immaculate, and the people friendly. On a scale of 1-5, this would be an easy "8" for family campers!
Wilhelm Van Ruttle
Thank you, Julie at the front who welcomed us! Made for a great start into the state park!
Francesco
Very nice place far from all the tourists!
Peter Hubbard
Third year back - great access to Acadia area, but away from the big crowds. Campground staff have been great and the park is very nice: with its own rocky, but easily accessed beach, short hiking trails, water access, play areas for the kids, views of Acadia......even a short stretch down the road is a community beach. Tucked away with plenty to do at the Park and great access to the Acadia area!
Zom BQue
We came all the way from Syracuse NY for a few days during our #explorethenation trip. Lamoine State Park was a great place, it was super clean and staff was super friendly. i would definitely recommend this park to anyone who asked. There were two things that i would say about the campground that i wasn't to fond of but i cannot hold it against that campground or it's staff. the first thing is how fast people drive through the camping area, a speed limit of 5mph is posted but not many campers were following the posted speed limit. the other thing is the Skunks, lots of skunks, you couldn't smell them but they would come around as soon as it got dark out to see what kind of goodies were left out for them. We were shocked that we couldn't even eat our dinner at the picnic table because the skunks were walking within a few feet of us AND our dogs. the skunks seamed unfazed by our dogs the only thing we could do to get them to go back into the woods was turn the Explorer's headlights on. Luckily no-one was sprayed! Even with the skunks and speed racers i would still recommend the park!
dan bard
$4 per person day use fee
Ben Lord
Location is superb, if you plan right you can land a tent spot facing west and watch the sunset on the water. You can also watch harbor porpoises swimming against the stunning backdrop. And the shower facilities are clean. Bring Bugspray!-- It's coastal ME!
Chris Doughty
This is a great place to go camping for a very reasonable price whether you have an RV or tent. They have potable water a dumping station, bathrooms and showers. There is access to the water but no beach. About a mile down the road there is a public beach . . . It's pretty rocky but you and/or the kiddos can get wet!
Richard Weis
A nice, un-crowded state park campground. Good facilities, lovely setting, friendly staff. My daughters and I have camped here two years in a row, so far...

One word - AWESOME! Scienic, modern amenities, handicapped friendly, abondant nature, fantastic staff, I really can not say enough good things about this park. It is probably one of the best State parks I have ever been to, you owe it to your self to come here. Thank you Lamoine State Park.
Joshua Kent
Amazingly serene. Very quiet park, with free hot showers. Kids loved looking for Larry the lobster and I enjoyed biking around the park, nice tidal pools too.
Michael Cuskelly
Great place to camp if you are visiting Acadia. You are not jammed together like the commercial campgrounds. A great view, nice shower ficilities. The staff is helpful and friendly.

We enjoy going there for the little playground, a nice walk, and to lie on the warf just to feel the ocean waves.
Stephanie Pontier
Frankly, this is a fantastic place. Nature is magnificent. The bay is close by at walking distance. Close from Bar Harbor and all the great activities of the Acadia park.
