We made reservations at the camp ground for an RV space, they were about a month out. This is a beautiful state park. The spots were spaced apart nicely. The spaces were clean and neat. Roads were a little narrow and a lot of one way roads for a state park. The beauty and trail systems were great. Try and get a spot that is as Far East as possible that way you are close as can be to the mountain for the views. We were quite a bit away but we could still see all the glory the superstitions had to offer from our site. We will come back one day again. Check out the ghost town across the street, Gold field. That was nice to go to and very close for some food, drink and entertainment.

WOW. This is such a beautiful state park. The views get more incredible as you go up to flat iron peak. When the sun is setting, it lights up this park in such a surreal way. Definitely a highlight of visiting the Phoenix area. Will definitely return!
Alan Czerwinski
I first visited this park somewhere 15 years ago. It has only grown more beautiful in my absence. Didn't make it to the peak or flatiron because of time constraints, but even a half mile away from the top, the hike still possesses incredible views of the surrounding communities and mountains in the distance. Bring lots of fluids of course(being Arizona and all)!

Great hiking and camping at the edge of the Superstition Mountains. Campsites mostly of decent size and private. Hiking trails never disappoint providing great views and challenges. The grand daddy hike is to the top of the formation known as The Flatiron. Restrooms are clean with a lots of hot water. Camp hosts keep the place neat and tidy.

We stayed 4 nights @ Lost Dutchman State Park, Apache Jct , about 30 miles east of The Phoenix area. It got rave reviews from others and we agree. The suburbs do come up to the edge of the park in some places but that’s not a huge negative.
You do need to make your camping reservation well in advance. Only a few sites have electric but many campers, including ourselves have solar panels which stayed charged in the bright AZ sun.
The 5 days of our visit, daytime temps were in the low 90’s even in March . So plan to hike early in the day, even starting before sunrise, especially for Siphon Draw, the most popular hike in the park.
Tonto National forest borders the Superstition Wilderness area so there are additional hiking, biking , horseback riding options just outside Lost Dutchman State Park

$10 parking fee. Great spot to hike near Phoenix. Well maintained trails and restrooms. Trails are well marked and a map is posted at the trailhead. We did the treasure loop trail. It is a rocky trail with consistent incline. Hiking poles recommended especially for the walk down. Went on a Saturday and it was populous but not too much that you couldn't hike it comfortably. Lots of dogs, big and small.

Hiked with friends Sunday and the weather could not have been more pleasant and perfect! Loved the cloud cover and mild fall season weather! Easy to get in the park and if you are a veteran or retired military, cost to get in is $5 and if not then it is $10.
Valerie Lloyd
Very beautiful and quiet campground. We rented a site with a 30amp and water. Had a private area with a beautiful views. They have tent camping and rustic sites without hookups.
We enjoyed the local hikes and they have a Fry's grocery store located within 10 min incase you forget something.
We will definitely return.
Alexandra Flournory
Amazing hiking trails from easy to hard. Perfect for small kids and experienced hikers. It wasn't too busy either, it was nice to enjoy a less crowded trails with incredible views!
Urban Redneck
The entrance fee is $10 per vehicle. Honestly, that's a bargain considering the excellent scenery, and numerous walking/hiking/mountain bike trails, and an nice brochure with a map of the park. Several restrooms and parking areas are also available.

Great place to stay if you are self contained in rv.
Beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Fun jr ranger program.
Our only issue was bathrooms and shower have no ac. The water doesn’t get cold so you have no relief in that way either. It would be cooler to keep the shower door open to get a breeze at least.
Nancy Ordonez
Lovely state campground at the base of the beautiful Superstitious Mountains. Give yourself time to set up camp, then walk around during sunset. Within the sunset hour, saw hangglider, tarantula, little snake, multiple lizards, and rabbit! Very clean bathrooms. Milky way glimmers with shooting stars. Sizable dog park. Interesting immersive trail for warm up. Morning hike on Siphon draw trail was so enjoyable! Looking forward to next time.

Will definitely be doing this hike again. Going to make it to the top next time. It was icy and snowy which made it even more difficult to climb and be safe. But once all that melts, and before it gets too hot I'll be doing it again for sure. It was ridiculously hard in some areas. I can't imagine what actually making it to the top will be like, but I'm excited to find out.

Our favorite hiking Arizona State Park. ... its a little bit difficult. But it was perfect. It takes an 1 or 2 hours going back and forth with lots of water break or pictures stop. Entrance fee per vehicle is $10. We have fun. ...

An absolutely beautiful State Park (one of the best we’ve been to in our months living out of our RV). The prices are fantastic for the view that you get. We’ve stayed in both hookup (electric & water) and rustic sites and both are lovely. Highly recommend taking a hike up to Flat Iron while you’re here!
Dave Gallager
It was a good hike. Took the Treasure Loop Trail per rangers advise. Moderate climb with nice views. Logged 2.53 miles and 604 foot elevation gain.
Scott Riggle
Such a beautiful place. Lots of trails to hike and amazing views. We were there during monsoon season and the bugs were really bad, so be prepared for that.
Definitely a must see.
Mike Magana
Amazing experience with the family! We hiked trail number 56 it was about a 2 hour hike in total. I would recommend some good hiking shoes and plenty of water. Only complaint would be to those people who think throwing their trash off to the side of the trails is a good idea. Please pick up after yourself and stop being lazy. If you bring it in, you should leave with it. It's that simple people.
Buddy Ray
We were in town to meet a friend for dinner. We chose Lost Dutchman because it was convenient, but WOW what a great park! The campsites are well spread out, level and their views are great. The only negative is that the power and water on the pull through sites is frequently on the wrong side of the site, requiring either long cords and hoses or parking in the site with the door on the wrong side.
Oscar Martinez
Wonderfully preserved state park where you can see AZ nature at its best. Up close to the Superstition Springs mountains with beautiful views of great desert landscape & pictures worth 100k words (especially if you get that infamous AZ sunset in there). There is a fee of $10 but it's a small price to pay for all those different trails you can choose from. I've seen horseshoe prints & mountain bike tire treads alike so, very versatile if you are looking to do something more than just a nature hike or take beautiful pics, you do have lots of options here.
Rachel Ewell
Beautiful state park with hiking for all levels, from beginner to very challenging. Lots of parking, picnic spots, really clean and nice bathrooms, and just stunningly beautiful.
Benjamin Hoffman
Beautiful place to hike! I cannot recommend it enough. Bring plenty of water, some food, and be in good shape. It is worth the effort for the beautiful views and great nature.
Paul Kauer
Great place to camp. Beautiful scenery and some good hiking trails. We went camping for the Cub Scouts pack 323.
eyetms2u
The terrible bed rock crumbles on the trials from the parking lot to the mountain ruin the experience. Poor decision to cover the trail with that. The rocks are oddly shaped loose and a tripping hazard. They roll out from under your feet and tire you out before you get to the base of the mountain. I'm certain they could of used a more uniform size of gravel. Other than that, it is an incredible experience and a tradition to be able to hike this amazing park.
Shayla McGrady
Loved it. Went on a Saturday for the April full moon, the concert, and the campfire stories. Treasure Loop is a fun trial with just enough of a challenge going up, and coming down is smooth sailing on a wide flat path making it great for a trail run.
Gretchen Littlefield
This is a clean and well-maintained AZ state park.
It's quiet this time of year, so there are many critters that like to share space. I'm a tent camper so I've only been in the rustic sites and they're all very beautiful!! Seriously, I'm super picky about my campsite views and there's no going wrong there. ⛺
There is access to many trails from the campground, so just park the car and go crazy. 🌵
They have ice and supplies as you check in. Nice place, friendly folks. 👍🏻
Shelli Barnett
Beautiful! We visited in late January. Perfect hiking weather! We loved camping in the campground. The views are amazing!
Olga Oreshina
One of the best places to get to know Arizona desert. Well maintained facilities, great trails and very close to Phoenix. We visited park in the mid November, the weather was perfect, not hot at all.
Derek G
We did a hike on this place January 2nd. My wife picked it up because she wanted a trail that was simple for her and the kids. We went out there when there were major cloud coverage one day after rain, and for some reason when you visit the desert after it's had recent showers it makes it look super vibrant and alive. The smell is also amazing. This guy wasn't too busy but there were people there. It's also a great spot to bring your dogs. Once you get to the very tip top point of treasure loop, You will be rewarded with an amazing view of the whole valley.
Michael Joyce
Treasure Loop Trail #56 was a great hike with nice views all around! Make sure to stick to the signs for the loop. We accidentally missed one and ended up hiking another mile or two. Make sure to wear good shoes as there are a lot of loose rocks throughout the trail. Highly recommend bringing water along, not too many spots to fill up. Overall a great hike, but excited for when it cools down even more.
Brad Betenson
This is a beautiful spot to stay with some offroading/hiking near by. The trailer pads are narrow and they only allow 2 vehicles. If you want a 3rd then you must get another camp site to park it in. Our trailer site easily fit 60+ feet length wise though. The site came with a picnic table and a fire pit and a great view of the rocks. We used 50amp power and the fresh water hook ups. There are no sewer hookups but there is a dump station in the campground. The site we stayed in (25) had plenty of room between neighbors. The kids loved running around and hunting lizards and tarantulas. There are a few catcus so watch out! The bathrooms are nice and have showers. Dumpsters are close. Verizon had 2 bar 5G but I'd recommend bringing STARLINK for real internet. We'll be back.
Matt Nerdin
Very nice campground as the state parks typically are. Well groomed network of hiking trails.
Melissa Lopez
Hiked flatiron and although it was a challenging hike, it was worth it for the views. I only recommend that if you do plan on hiking it, you check the weather for rain. The draw can be very very very slippery when wet. Take plenty of water and stay safe.
charles flanagan
Literally one of our favorite places to hike. Very picturesque. It's has a lot of different trails for all ages and experience levels.
Great for pictures and family outings
Kenny Dillingham
Depending on what you're looking for, this could be great or terrible. It is pretty and the trails decent. I suspect the middle of the week would be much better unless you don't mind hiking on a proverbial freeway with people blasting music, screaming children and unhappy hikers. So on the weekend I'd rate this place a two. During the week, it would be a four. It's always noisy from drones, traffic, explosions and aircraft, but it is close to the city, so what do you expect.
Allen Roberts
Very nice. Some spots with shade. Sections with electricity. 6 rustic cabins. Great views. Easy to get around. Lots of trails. Already scheduled another camping weekend there.
Travis Ingram
Falt iron was amazing. However part of me wants to warn others that this is not a easy hike up siphon's draw it's 2600 feet elevation gain and around 6.5 miles lots of places you need to climb rocks gloves are a must! On the flip side I met a 91 year old man named flat iron Jim on his way down he has completed this hike 27 times since November 🤯 congratulations to you Jim you are a inspiration to us all! Arrive early take breaks enjoy it have an amazing lunch up top you will not be disappointed!!
Jasmine Dowling
Trails are well kept and facilities are clean. Potable water available. Signs can be abit confusing when they change names half way through the hike. Otherwise beautiful scenery and easy trails.
Emily Price
One of the prettiest and hardest hikes in Lost Dutchman State Park is Flat Iron! It’s a great one to check off the strenuous hikes list!
Anthony Martinez
This is a very nice hiking place, there are a lot of trails in that area. There are a lot of birds, hawks, rabbits and lizards.
Kayla Dammann
WOW. This is such a beautiful state park. The views get more incredible as you hike. Definitely a highlight of visiting the Phoenix area. Will definitely return!
Jon Barbara
Lovely park with decent amenities. Functional and clean restrooms and a nice view of the superstition mountains. There are ramada's available with grills.. these can be reserved. There are walking/hiking paths from the park to the mountain. Cost is $7 in the off season and $10 in season for parking and day use. Gates allegedly close at 8pm...although I think this is a subjective situation as I have never seen them closed.
Adrian Nagle
Lost Dutchman State Park is a pretty and small park. I enjoyed the hike along the base of the mountain. This was a happy respite from long work hours during a remote work stint.
I hiked early May on a Sunday. it was getting "hot" for me, but not to bad. There were not many on the trail during my hike. I appreciated dog owners with leash stepping off to the side to let me pass. I don't see that every on Colorado.
Roads and parking in the park are great. There are not many parking spaces. I imagine it gets crowded.
There are many camping spots. Looks like a great place to bring a camper for a weekend.
Stefanie Spencer
Beautiful desert park with hiking paths, nice dog run, great camping facilities and RV parking.
Denise Heinrichs
Beautiful views and we'll maintained sites but the full hookup loop is way to crowded. Tightest sites we have experienced at AZ State Park campgrounds. We only have one left to visit!
H. FergMT
We went for a day hike with our dogs and two teenagers. Make sure you bring enough water and have good walking shoes. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the weather was fantastic.
Jason Havash
Went on our first scorpion hunt at the park this evening and it was a blast. The park rangers were fantastic and the park is breathtakingly beautiful. Looking forward to returning for future events and just to explore the park more in general.
Kecia Cortrecht
I love Superstition Mountain. When I was in high school my friend and I claimed it as ours.
There were quite a few people hiking the day we went.
Diane Low
This State RV Park has beautiful views, access to trails in Superstition Mountains and is well maintained. Just be careful about reading all the rules regarding parking, overnight camping, day passes vs. overnight passes as the staff provides conflicting and sometimes confusing information.
David Fedor
Great campground and day use park.
Clean, well maintained with friendly staff/hosts
Aerika Ashley
Good place to camp if you like being close to people. Wish the campsites were more spread out and neighbors weren't so close. Other than that Nice little spot to enjoy the scenery with a grill/ fire pit. Restrooms were very clean and had showers ! They were also friendly and were able to get us in a camp spot last minute. We will be visiting again.
Jon L.
A great spot for a walk or hike surrounded by great views and cacti. Sunset was amazing from this location.
Gregg Stasiak
Fun beautiful easy hike until you reach the Superstition mountain foothills. Becomes a bit more challenging but well worth it
Kelly Marin
This place was a amazing came exploring with 4 little kids so we were looking for a simple walk. The guide at the front told us where to park and a way to turn the treasure loop shorter and into less than a mile walk. It was perfect for what the kids could handle. Rain was blowing in so the views were incredible. The park was clean the parking was easy. I saw that there was camping this looks like a great place to camp, definitely worth a day visit and doing a big hike if you are able! So much to see and do. A great surprise was seeing a lady come by on her horse on an adjacent path beautiful view in the perfect setting. This is definitely a must visit for anyone looking for more nature exploring in the Phoenix area!
Existenceisillusion
Beautiful views, too much to see in so short a time. Could easily spend a month hiking all the trails. Will come back.
Laurel S.
Very beautiful, well kept park. I wish it was a bit more remote but still very nice. Great hiking, very nice RV sites, especially if you can snag one with water and electric. Nice new dog park. Watch out if you have small dogs. The gates need some wood or stone at the bottom to block escape. The wildlife is plentiful. Lots of happy quail, rabbits, coyotes and more. The staff and camp hosts do a great job. Thank you!
Anne M
Very cool hikes available here and some pretty incredible desert landscapes. It is very popular though so expect to see a lot of people on the trail.
Lisa Kent
Massacre Falls is about 5 miles total. Wear good shoes and go early or when it's cooler outside.
Courtney B
Amazing park. Very clean and well maintained. Did some hiking around the Treasure Loop trail and would definitely recommend it. Do it at sunset when the rocks are changing various colors of red and orange, you will not be disappointed. There are plenty of benches to stop and rest. Very well marked and maintained trail, moderate in difficulty. Several picnic areas and facilities. Glad to pay $10 to get into the park- clean and beautiful!
Jesi E
PROS: Great view of mountains and night sky. Hiking trails. Excellent rangers; friendly and resourceful. Fun for RV, pull throughs, hookups and sewer station. Decent facilities and fenced dog park. CONS: Not much shade, barren dog area, roaming coyotes (watch your little pups).
Jason Zhu
Probably not at the right time, or with proper light, there was not much to see in the park. Arrived in the morning, and it was against sun. All washed out, a little difficult for photographing. Reviewed other pictures and seems it would be beautiful at sunset, or at least with some clouds covered. Certainly it could be great for hiking people, staying at campground, or just liking exposed under direct sun.
Randy Watson
Did Flatiron yesterday. I've done some other trails. It's was a great experience.
Rikki Milbrandt
Lost Dutchman has such amazing hikes and views! We come here at least once a week for a quick hike and longer ones on the weekends. When we bought our yearly pass the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. I love coming to this park!
Michael Swisher
Always love this place. Great hiking, amazing scenery. And occasional wildlife.
Greg
Beautiful state park with great views, hiking, and camp hosts!
Chad Johnson
Beauty surrounds you at this campground, sadly, customer service does not. Plan ahead with a reservation & there should be no issues getting settled in. Staff are friendly enough and yes bathrooms and sites are clean and well maintained. This is a large campground with many hosts(you will see them and other employees riding golf carts here and there) so one would think that once set up at your site, you'd be offered firewood/ice to purchase so that you wouldn't have to drive all the way back up to the front gate entrance area where both are sold but unfortunately that is not the case and when asked about it, they act like they have never heard of such a service. Long story short, bring those items with you and if you run out or forget and have to make the trek all the way back up to the entrance for those, just continue out of the park and purchase for much cheaper just down the street where there are several other locations selling those items. Just a little effort with those details would make it so that customers could set up and not worry about ever having to leave the campsite for those items, not to mention keep more cash spent inside the park, especially since the hosts and employees are already riding by throughout the day.

The main trail I visit is the "Treasure Loop" trail. I adore this path because it has some incline, but it is relatively short. The view as you begin is gorgeous. As you move forward you get closer and closer to, in my opinion, one of the prettiest faces of the Superstition Mountain Range. The wildlife you see along the way is also wonderful. I will mention that I have run into a few rattlesnakes right next to the trail while on this path. They usual give a pretty fair amount of warning time with their rattle, but always keep a look out. Especially as you get closer to the mountain and higher up on the trail.
Happy Hiking :)
Robert Irving
Many hiking trails to choose from. Amazing scenery with plenty of wildlife
T. H.
Gorgeous scenery and hikes all around. It's a must visit.
Brooke Hunger
This park is wonderful! We camped at spot 41, right by restrooms, dumpster, dog park, trailheads, but none of those were bothersome. Beautiful view from our RV. Great hiking trails! Very nice staff! Close to town for last minute supplies.
M P
Nice park and good hiking trails. However some site are too small for large rigs
Kathy
We have stayed at The Lost Dutchman several times. The views & sunsets are great. The hosts do a great job of keeping things tidy. The main restroom near the Siphon Draw trailhead gets a lot of day use traffic. The last time we were there, the showers were lukewarm. My only real complaint is the generator hours. 8am to 10am & 5pm to 7pm. Just when we want to sit outside & enjoy preparing & eating a nice meal, people fire up their generators. Then they go inside so they don't have to listen to it. I would love it if the hours in the afternoon were 3-5. Then we could eat in peace & quiet.
Isac Kenney
On vacation and came across this on my journey. Climbed about 2 miles up Superstition Mountain before turning around. Bring lots of water, a good backpack, and hiking boots! Amazing experience and friendly hikers as well.
Scotty Tucker
This is an awesome state park. There are awesome trails to hike. We had access to the Superstition Mountains from our campsite. We hiked to Flat Iron and it was an amazing 7 hour hike. We spent one of the 7 hours playing on top. We didn't have a camper with a bathroom so it was a long hike to the bathrooms. That was the only negative. It wasn't a problem except when you have to go in middle of the night. Just outside of the state park you will find many places to dine, shop and get gas.
Steph Bacher
We really enjoy the camp ground, it's clean and the staff is friendly. The sites are kind of small but spaced out nicely so we didn't feel cramped.
The only thing is the website pictures make it hard to pick a site, online the photos are vague but over all it's a great experience.
The Cat's Meow Grooming & Suites
Nice park for low impact hiking. Enjoyed the grills and firerings for a family cookout.
David Fike
4 liters of water a day, proper clothes dress in layers ,check the weather before you go also let family or friends know where you are going and how long you may be.
There are depending on the season and altitude rain, snow ❄ possibly bears 🐻, snakes 🐍, bobcats, mountain lions 🦁,spiders, scorpions. Sprained ankles, head injuries broken bones, etc etc etc. Need a walking stick, knife 🔪, first aid kit. And extra food 😋 protein, snacks 😋 👌. think be safe and enjoy. This may not be a full list. But may be helpful.
Ivan Frank
Can't say enough wonderful things about this park, and we don't have to as the fully booked reservations speak for themselves. The park is very far east by the Superstition Mountains but still across the street from a ghost town show and 12 minutes from a supermarket.
Excellent, private sites and very clean bathrooms with showers. Water is available in several areas of the park but not at the sites. Easy walk to Siphon Draw and tons of trails in the area, great for mountain biking too. The air just smells better here.
Keep refreshing the website for last minute cancelations and I'm sure you'll find something. If you're not camping, get the AZ State parks annual pass and it will pay for itself in 7 visits to parks. (They even have cabins!).

Have been using the trails for hiking for several years now. The dog and I love walking there during the week. Spent a few days camping, just because of the view and it was a great weekend. The trails are well kept and they all have great views.

Lost Dutchman State Park Campground site 19
Highlight: the stunning backdrop of the Superstition Mountains. All sites are paved, and many (like ours) have a beautiful view of the mountains. All utilities worked well. The Rangers and volunteers were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The sites were spaced decently well.
But... The showers were in pretty bad shape (a little run-down, and the cold water was pretty warm, the interior air temp was very hot, and only two of four showers in the nearest bathhouse were operational when we were there; it was a miserable evening shower). Note that we used the older/smaller bathhouse, near site 16. The restrooms were in good shape.
The roads inside the campground were hard to navigate - there is plenty of maneuvering room and the roads are in great condition, but there is a confusing mix of one-way and two-way streets, with left- and right-side campsites. But it's a big loop so no big deal - just be sure to have a navigator. Or you can take a minute to study the map after registering, like I should have done.
On balance, with a self-contained camper, this park gets two thumbs up.
All sites are paved but with little to no shade.
Tip: Go on Apache Trail! (It starts just east of the park.) Even if you only go to the end of the paved section a few miles past Tortilla Flats, you'll see stunning mountain scenery. No gas stations and limited facilities, so be prepared, including water in summer. My personal recommendation is to take only your tow vehicle/toad - steep grades and hairpin turns. But you won't regret it.

The park itself is beautiful the sights are phenomenal but if you are camping you’re not allowed to have any deliveries which I find crazy. No DoorDash, Instacart, or laundry pickups and drop offs. Guest have to pay $10 to see you. I never encountered this before. I have had deliveries and guest at a camp ground several times and they were not charged. I think management needs to chime in on this.

Beautiful landscape and vegetation. Drove through in late March after a storm. Perfect weather for hiking and beautiful clouds making any single shots moody and dramatic.
Tricia B
The park is just recently reopened after the recent fires in the area, all Tonto Forrest trails are closed, this State Park has 3 trails of it's own that are open. They also have a ramada and restroom. Camping space is available too~ $7 entry cost
Jason Buscema
We did the Flatiron via Siphon Draw Trail hike and it was fantastic! Beautiful scenery all around. This is a great state park with nice bathrooms. We were here on New Years Day and although at first it seemed like parking would be hard, the rangers were very well organized and made it easy. Lots of great hiking here!
Steve waddington
Our go to for hiking in our area. This park is always very clean, plenty of parking and endless trails .
Ashlyn “LittleD” G
Beautiful place to hike all the other hikers are super friendly! Restrooms are available and clean, masks must be warn in bathrooms!!! There are trails for all levels of hikers, be sure to bring plenty of water and don't go off the trails!!! Dog are allowed and most pick up after them. It's super busy on the weekends but Monday's are great days to hike no to packed! If going to the top be sure to start early in the day! Will be back to hike to the top a second time! This trail is not for new hikers, be sure to have trekking poles and the correct boots. Please be polite and remove trash as it's becoming a problem! Great place to take the family and bbq or have a picnic!
Wandering WithUsTwo
This state park is named after the legends of the Lost Dutchman’s gold mine. There are many tales of this supposed hidden gold mine in the Superstition Mountains that have captivated people for hundreds of years. Although there are several stories about the origin of the mine nobody has been able to confirm for certain which is true. This park is very interesting to visit with many trails to see the surrounding area and includes a lake. Some popular ones here are the Flatiron Trail and Weavers Needle. There’s even a small town called Goldfield Ghost Town which adds more to the old west vibes from the area. At about 45 minutes east Phoenix it is easily accessible and much different than other mountain peaks in the area. The four peaks can also be seen from here in the distance as well which provides an additional backdrop for photos especially when they’re covered in snow. Because it sits in the east it also creates some great shadows and golden curtains of light over the face of the mountains. It’s not uncommon to see many photoshoots out here for engagements and graduations due to the beautiful desert landscape. Sometimes it can be very crowded on the way there as the roads are one lane each way so just make sure you leave yourself enough time to arrive in time for sunrise/set. We have been fortunate enough to go on one of the rare occasions last year when it snowed out there and it was packed with people. However, since this park is so spread out it is a great place to come take in the scenery without feeling to crowded!

We had an amazing weekend in a cabin. The staff was very friendly & let us check in 4 hours early. The cabin was clean, very comfortable & we will def stay again. It was a much needed escape during the time of quarantine, we felt secluded but the Park is located very close to town and we were able to run in whenever we needed something it was super convenient
Andrea Freese
Short drive from Phoenix. Easy access. Rangers are nice and helpful. There are different trails depending on your ability. Places to have a picnic and restrooms to wash up. There is a Junior Ranger program for the kids too.
Kaley Buttars
Beautiful little park. We went in the late afternoon and hiked the treasure loop trail, about 2.4 miles, and highly recommend it. The views were absolutely stunning! The hike itself is fairly easy, there's some elevation gain but I did it carrying my 7 month old and had no problems. We saw so many different desert plants and the towering saguaros against the superstition mountains make for the prettiest backdrop. If you can, go at sunset; as we were leaving it just kept getting prettier.
Heather Kraafter
Enjoyed this very much except the neighbors that seemed to think the "generator hours" were mandatory and used them to the minute even if they weren't using the rig!!!
The sites in the top loop are kinda close, but I suppose that's standard anymore.
We decided to walk around and find other sites for a better view of the mountain and make note for the next time.
Be aware... Many of the sites have the table and fire ring on what would be the back side of the rig. Look at the pictures carefully before reserving. I wish they marked them so you knew before you reserved!!
Timothy Reed
Hiked up to the top past Flat iron where you get a 360° view. It was not an easy hike but well worth it. Including breaks it took us almost 6 hours round trip. There are no facilities or water along the way. It can get cool and windy at the top.
JCamping
Camped here for 3 days. Nice and spacious campsites. Rangers were informative and friendly. The restrooms and showers weren’t the cleanest but they were great for a campground. The showers were nice and hot
Nelia I.
Loved the hike!! Flatiron was intense! Definitely not for beginners 🥴🥴 lots of rock climbing ...we started at 1130am (big mistake start early!!) We finished at 7pm almost getting lost had to use cell flash lights 😒😒it was DARK by the time we got to the car ....but over all it was super ! Views are amazing I will definitely do it again!!💪💪 We walked a total of 7 miles ...
Brian Holle
Amazing place for RV camping. Spaces are level and there is good separation between spots. The park is super clean because of the many wonderful camp hosts. There are plenty of hiking trails and lots of birds to watch. This place is a true jem
Robert Branson
I would suggest to access the trails from outside the park if that is what you are looking for. We went there to hike and see the park but the loop for the trail system is not that impressive and most of the trails are out of the park and accessible without paying to go in the park. Other than that the Treasure Trail was very impressive and we watched an awesome rain storm blow in from the top and hiked back in the wind and rain! Very beautiful!

I hiked the Praying Hands Slot Rock Trailhead and was amazed at how magnificent the area was! The flowers were in bloom, the trail was maintained, clean and very well marked. NOTE: this trail is rated as moderate because near the top, there are a few areas where there is uneven ground. This is an 832 feet incline + a 4.3 mile loop so bring hiking sticks (if needed). One thing - make sure you use a navigation app because the entrance to the trail is not marked. The location is N 1st Water Rd. You will have parking but it is not paved nor is there bathroom facilities. Plus, there is no shade so please be prepared with sunscreen, plenty of water and other essentials so you can enjoy the hike. :-) One more thing, I noticed something when I got to the top that blew me away - there are three rocks that appear to be looking down on something. It looks like the manger scene from the bible! I included that pic and with a small arrow so you can see it. :-) Overall, this is one of my favorite hikes and highly recommend it.
Richard Kokes
Beautiful views. Friendly staff. Nice hiking trails. Dump station has hose for black tank back washing if you have a hookup that allows for it. Lost Dutchman goldmine town just up the road. Very touristy but fun. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 was I wish their signs were bigger. Hard to read the small signs in the dark to make sure you are going where you need to go, especially towing a rig. Also lane markers need to be repainted so it is easier to see in the dark (white one way arrows versus two lane yellow divider lines) to know which way you should be driving. Also needs to have longer waiting lanes for the dump station. Two rigs can dump at one time and two rigs can wait directly behind. Any more than that and there is no place to wait except at the campsite you are leaving.
Michel Heijnen
Very nice park for hiking! There is an entrance fee but I think it is worth it even I'd you're staying for only a short amount of time. I you would like a shorter hike, I highly recommend the TL loop. The hike offers great views of the mountains and many cactuses are along the path. Bring enough water though! It was very warm when I went, there is potable water near the parking for the start of the trail.
Riggs Ramirez
So beautiful and relaxing... its always a good time... just wishes it snowed in winter. Always patrolled by rangers and police. To make sure everyone is safe lots of wild animals and buried gold. If you fund it get me a pizza.
Rene Ramirez
The lost Dutchman state park is a beautiful place to visit. The higher you go the harder it gets to get to the top, but once you make it to the top of Flat Iron, you are rewarded with views that not even picture can match.
Major West
We stayed 3 days at Lost Dutchman. The campground is surrounded by hiking and mountain bike trails with varying degrees of difficulty. There are spectacular views of the nearby mountain from every campsite. Some camp sites have water and electric hookups others are "dry". The friendly staff take great care of the park. Will definitely return again.
Cerulean Fish
This is quite a well maintained state park in Arizona. The campground has several options from full size bus hookups down to tent, then hiker/biker. The bathroom/shower facilities were wonderful. However someone kept leaving the shower trickling. So nice to have an outside 2 basin dish wash-up area. Many entry to intermediate trails inside or starting on the park. A few advanced trails as well. In spring when we stayed several snow birds with their hookups n campers. This campground is very close to Mesa and Sloan park for Cubbie fans who want stay on the cheap, close to the park only 20 - maybe 30 minutes drive. As for the park, it's close to the local ghost town with its saloon. Theres beef jerky and pizza close by to the south. An affordable safe and fun park to visit. Reservations suggested its popular.
David Arnold
Fantastic State Park. We went here for the flatiron trail which is a 6 mi round trip with big elevation gain and huge views of the Phoenix area. this trail is a lot of fun but it is not well marked and there are places where you could get lost. But it is pretty heavily traveled so you should be okay.
Tom Calano (tc)
Wonderful state park. $7 for a day pass to park. Several parking lots to park at. Has camping over night. I did not camp on this trip. Cearly marked out trails. Quite and serene. Got to see a beautiful sunset through annopening in the cloudy sky that was present most of the afternoon. Allow a good 30-40 minutes to hike up to the baze if the mountain.
Elizabeth Adriano
I adore the Superstition Mountains, and this is a lovely, clean state park with gorgeous mountain views and a variety of trails with ranging difficulty levels and lots to explore! We go here regularly to hike and love it!
Michael Griesemer
Beautiful trails. Beautiful scenery.
Leila D.
Such a beautiful place. Plenty of parking, ramadas, firepits. Bathroom facilities are very clean- flush toilets and well maintained. The Treasure loop trail was perfect for our family hike. Beautiful views, trail was easily followed, just the right level of challenge without being too difficult for young kids. Next time we will be more prepared and plan to have post hike bbq lunch.
Nicole Ostler
Went to the wild Phil show and he was a riot. Free event for the most part, just the $7 to get into park. He answered questions and showed some great critters. My boys loved it. The part was beautiful! Tons of hiking spots and picnic areas with beautiful views.
Peter Chapman
Very nice park. Flat iron summit is a great hike, about 6-7 miles from parking lot to summit and back. Leave early during summer months. If you start by 5am, can get all the way up with no sun, as mountain shades ascent. Awesome views. A lot of scrambling over rocks but not technical climbing. Highly recommend. $7 fee for day use current as of June 2016.
Will Carman
Close to the city, deep in the wilderness. A must-visit park for those not wanting to get too lost while still requiring some adventure. Reservations are necessary, as many folks grab these spots, and often for long stays (14 day maximums). RVs are the most common sight, and it attracts that demographic of traveler. However, everyone was very kind and generous as they saw us struggling to stay dry in our tent after several successive days of constant rain. The trails are limited to a few paths, but it still feels vast and open as you traverse them. I loved the spectrum of skilled hikes too, anything from a casual stroll to a hardcore hump up to the flatiron which demands solid preparation and being in decent shape to deal with a 5+ hr trek & some vertical scrambling. The individual sites are pretty small and hard to put a tent anywhere but the paved drives into each nook, much of the ground is covered in small plants and cacti. There's a picnic table/bench thing at each spot, plus a fire pit grill (which is the only place you can burn). Bathrooms and showers are on site and worked great during our stay. Good for families too, if your kids aren't the kind to flail themselves around too much, those Chollas are no joke!
Paul Juser
Amazing view of the Superstition Mountains from a trail that was no problem for inexperienced hikers.
James Turner
My personal heaven in desert Phoenix! Everytime I want to seek peace and be close to nature, I go here. So many options for hiking and for different levels.
James Red Pills America
What an awesome place! Got a ton of great pictures so make sure you bring a good camera with you when you come out. What an awesome place to take the kids or your girlfriend or boyfriend for some cool hiking!
Aleksandra K
Striking views of the head of the Superstitions so great for photography. Also this is the gateway to some epic hikes. We love to hike here fall to early spring. If you are planning on hiking Siphon Draw to Flatiron, morning hours are the best due to the shade, you will be glad.
Alphonse Morin
Such a great place for a day hike! The area is beautiful, and the trails are well maintained.
Sifu Och Wing Chun
A MUST SEE if your in Phoenix. Plan for 3 hours to get to the Flat Iron Peak and 3 hours back down. Great hike, worth the drive.
Debra Frech
Love hiking at Lost Dutchman State Park. We are not so young and so we enjoy the more level and not very high hikes on Jacob's Crosscut. The views are breathtaking and the sky is usually a gorgeous blue. Afterwards a picnic at one of the tables facing the mountains is just about perfect. By the way, camping there is fun too.
Andrew S
The views from this campground are amazing. The setting among saguaro and cholla cactuses at the foot of the Superstition Mountains is breathtaking. The bathroom facilities at the campground are decent. The small cabins are brand new and pretty comfortable, but very basic. They do have power, but no running water or bathroom.
adubbs fpv (Adubbs_FPV)
Very beautiful area to explore! Some great hiking/walking trails, and stunning views of the superstitions.
Mike Vinar
Great place for hiking up the mountain. Many trails, bathrooms, tons of parking and it is beautiful.
Frank Hollibaugh
The hike up to flat iron as the top of the mountain is strenuous and takes a few hours. But if you make it the view is breathtaking. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes and gloves are highly recommended. Going up is hard and coming down is harder.
I read that this is a moderate hike. Don't be fooled take plenty of water and a snack.
Susan Chen
A hiking trail need admission fee.
James Nelson
One of my favorite places to hike and search for wildlife. I've brought many a tarantula and several rattlesnakes up off the streets and taken them to safer ground. They are a vital part of the ecosystem, and should never be harmed! Enjoy the park and endeavor to leave it better than you found it if that's even possible! :)
Kienan Mick
A trail for every level of experience. Beautiful views of the desert environment and rock features. Bring water! Even in the winter the sun will beat on you for miles of exposed trail.
Jennifer Elfrank
Nice park and campground, although sites are not very private. Bike trail was very close to the edge of our campsite, sites are very close together and there’s a neighborhood with existing homes and construction just beyond the park in view of the mountain. Made for a strange camping experience.
Pat L.
WOW great views, nice place. Has good strong hot showers. Nice large stainless steel sinks for washing dishes. A double sided RV dump and fill station.
All the rangers and employees seem very helpful on getting you a space to stay in. Very busy place when I was there in February.
Mona
Very beautiful place amazing views... Restrooms very clean... pet friendly, picnic area hiking trails... Quick fun getaway....
Mark Leonard
The trails from the campground are busy for hiking, especially on weekends. Mountain biking trails are short and at points poorly signed. The men's and women's restroom is too far away from the full hookup loop, and only one shower works on the men's side which isn't warm enough in this weather. Hard to beat the views and closeness to shopping.
We're full time hiking RVr's, blog link in bio.
Jeff Conner
Beautiful, but busy. LDSP is a delight just outside of Phoenix. Lots of trails nearby, level campsites, good facilities and friendly staff.
Autumn Hollingsworth
Stunning stunning stunning. Such a gorgeous spot. I went to see the wildflowers blooming and didn't have much luck on the trail I did. When we initially arrived and I told them I came to take pictures they told me it was $50 per car! Which I found pretty ridiculous especially since it was personal use and not selling services. General entrance was $7 which is much better priced. So remember that information if you go 😂 very clean and we'll maintained.
Mitch Miller
What a great place. What I like most is the solitude. I've been here twice and both times I was the only person in the park. Parking lot entrance was empty except for my car all day it was surreal. great scenery and you can hike for days. I would check the weather because flash floods area real thing and I almost didn't make it out one time when a particularly bad flood trapt me on the wrong side of the road,
Sharon Gaddy Jeselnik
I'm in love....breathtaking views.
Patrick Evans
Hiking the loop trail is great ✌️
Jaggy
Very beautiful. Go early in the morning and take lots of water if it's a hot day. Plenty of parking good roads in. 7 bucks at the gate. Bathrooms and covered picnic tables..
Stacey Southworth
$7 per a car, worth the parking to care for these wonderful trails and view
Kathy Tupman
Absolutely loved it! The hiking trails are well marked & maintained.
Jeremy Lesser
Incredible! Breathtaking views, tons of trails. The perfect place to spend a beautiful day.
Rick Libby
Take me back here. What a great place. This has it all. Beautiful scenery, great spacious sites, friendly staff, clean and convenient. Put this place on your top destination list.
Shea Dilly
Went here for the Full Moon Night Hike and had a great time. The hike was fairly easy, just a little rocky in parts, enough to warrant bringing a flashlight in case the moon isn't out (like tonight). But the desert landscape and mountain views are great here. Even at night the silhouettes of the saguaros and other desert plants is a nice sight. Our experience was made a little cooler by the monsoons in the surrounding area so lots of lightning that made for amazing views. Our tour guide provided some cool information and kept things organized. Loved this place at night and look forward to seeing it in the daytime.
Matthew Pollock
Lost Dutchman State Park is incredible. Great Sonoran desert wildlife. The story and history of the area is very interesting. The park is spotlessly maintained. The Ranger, Maintenence Folks, and other guests were friendly and very respectful. This makes our EPIC FAMILY TRIP list for sure.
Jeff Lawrence
Nice park, stayed mid week in Nov and had great weather and not very crowded. Hiking directly from park. Amazing sunsets.
K “KiloAlphaWhiskey” W
Beautiful land and a good hiking spot.
Joni Vore
Did a Full Moon home lead by Park Service. It was amazing. I've lived in AZ my entire life and have never done anything like this. I do things like this places I'm visiting, but it was awesome to see my own 'back yard' in a new way! (Pixel 4 Night Site for pics, distorted the moon though)
Arlene Ripley
Brought our RV here and stayed in the smaller area where the sites were very close together. Would recommend the larger area with much better sites, some even with electric. Can't beat the gorgeous mountain views!
Chris Szymczuk
Really awesome place to spend the day. Beautiful views, plenty of trials, picnic tables, parking, and bathrooms. Go visit and have a good time outside.
Merle Maxwell
Great park beautiful desert scenery great trails for hiking
Kevin Albert
Gorgeous park! Lots of trails, sights to see and wildlife!
Bryan S
Very nice staff and volunteers. This park stays immaculate including showers and restrooms. Abundant wildlife and trails. Read park rules and abide them they have strict enforcement which allows everyone to enjoy the park.
Eric Paulsen
We did the full moon hike and it was a great night time excursion. The group was quite large coming in at around 130 people.
The guided tour was nice, however it was pretty difficult to hear what the guide was saying due to the amount of people talking, shuffling shoes, kids etc.
Some of the volunteers wearing red lights were grumpy and didn't give you the impression that they wanted you there, but that shouldn't deter you from taking your friends/family to this hike! It's a wonderful little 2 - 2.5 hour hike that's very easy for anyone to do!
Tom Borchardt
Hiked the Treasure Loop. Fantastic scenery and a trail just difficult enough to make it interesting.
Candice Talbot
Clean air. Beautiful mountains. Boondocking on rough road
Nafiul Huda
Great place to hike. Lots of different trails however none of them is hard. :-) Must visit place while you are visiting Phoenix, AZ.
Janet Hurd
Beautiful campground. Very quiet. Just have to watch your pets for cactus stickers.
Kyle B.
Gateway to the Flat Iron!
Josie Grounds
The trail I took wasn't too hard, but be prepared. It is steep in places, going up and coming down. The view and sense of acconplishment is pretty incredible as well.
Parker Long
Great place to get to know the Sonoran desert and enjoy some of the beautiful scenery Arizona has to offer. I’m lucky to live within driving distance of this amazing place. Staff was friendly and very helpful/knowledgeable! My favorite State Park in Arizona!
Ashley Fleming
Had a great hike with the family today on the treasure loop. Beautiful views. You can hear the train from the Goldfield. my 2 yr old walked most of it. Still moderate hike but he did it with my help. Would recommend this hike.
Jova A. Barris
I highly recommend Lost Dutchman State Park! This being mentioned, this destination is clean and offers several different trails that vary in elevation.
LivingOurDreamNow
Hiked the Treasure Loop Trail (a 2.4 mile moderate trail) at Lost Dutchman State Park located adjacent to Apache Junction, Arizona. This park and trail contains stunning scenic beauty — Southwest style.
watertripper1
Gorgeous campground with clean washrooms and showers. Staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Hiking trails are abundant! Watch for rattlers on your hike, and bring plenty of water!
Jack Brown
Great place to visit in the fall, winter or spring as summer can tend to have extreme heat. Lots of different trails and multipurpose trails too. The place is very photogenic lots of beautiful areas with interesting rock outcroppings and saguaro cacti. Bring plenty of water to hydrate with.
Victor Palagano III
I thoroughly enjoy this wonderful place to connect with nature and my Creator. and the Lost Dutchman has never once tried to spook me or chase me away from his gold. 😄 …
Kolby Kay
Venturing through from Utah and needed a safe, clean and convent place to stop and rest for the evening.
Set up a small camp under the stars and close to the car. The sounds of the wilderness & breeze through the trees filled the air. Setting the stage for a goodnights sleep.
Woke in the morning, packed up and enjoyed a hot shower as the rain clouds moved in.
Sunrise to my back as I head back on the road. This will be a stop income back to and highly recommend.
Brian Druding
Just a short drive from the hustle and chaos of the Phoenix metro area you get a chance to see the Sonoran Desert in all its glory. Great day trip for locals and tourist alike. Wide array of hiking trails throughout the park and amazing place to take some photos and enjoy the flavor of the Southwest.
John Atchley
This is a terrific state park. The park is extremely taken care of with an excellent campground. The park cost $10 for the day. The park has several hiking trails, which will lead you to Superstition Mountain. Great park to spend the day.
Nic Peters
Love this park, the staff are super nice and helpful. For siphon draw to flat iron, make sure you look really hard for trail markers, they are spray painted dots and X's. Great trail, great park!
Felix-Albert Desmangles
Flatiron trail today with a group of friends. This is such a beautiful trail and provides a little challenge also. The view from the top is worth the effort and is truly incredible.
Sabrina Finley
Nice relatively flat area (Cholla trail), kid friendly, lots of parking, ramadas, nice clean restrooms very near, beautiful for a picnic or party. And we saw a herd of deer with a baby! Pretty cool! We keep coming back. Only $7 for a day pass. Very friendly, helpful park ranger at the entrance that gladly gave us suggestions as to where to go with a child to see the snow on the Superstitions. Highly recommend a visit.
Durango Family Photography By Gary VanDenBerg
As a photographer who operates in both Phoenix and Southwest Colorado, I have to say that Lost Dutchman State Park is without question one of the most magical places that I have ever worked with Clients at. The staff is friendly, permits are reasonably priced, and a reasonable distance from the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.
Chris Bauer
great trails all thru here. also great spot to campout when you get done hiking. they have bathroom & shower facilities for campers
bret gardner
Hiking, biking and camping! Camping is well priced! Huge State park! The views are unmatched! Its in the desert so bring lots of water more than you think you need! Ther is a lot of wildlife to enjoy! As well as the mystery of a lost gold mine!
Sindy Fladland
We had no idea this place existed when we visited in the past. It is well maintained. Sites are pull through with electric and water hookups. There is a dump station on the way out. Will definitely be back here.
Marisol G.
Best view ever. Saw rabbits, bunny's, and lizards. The rooms were beautiful and great quality. Rooms are a a short walk away and you get to see cute lil animals on your walks. The state ranger was extremely nice and answered all of our questions. Great for family.
Kurt Holz
Great state park for camping. No road noise. Campfires are allowed in non-summer months. Lots of walking trails close. Hosts are nice, checkin was easy and uneventful. About half the park has services while the other half is dry camping. Beware, water and electric only (50 amp)...NO sewer.
Candace Bouldin
Beautiful scenery. Clean, level park. Great space. Water and electric only. Lots of quails, ground squirrels & bunnies.
Brian Edgell
There are many ramada and grills although there are fire restrictions now
Dean B
One of the best state parks we have been to. Very clean , organized and incredible veiws of the Superstition mountain. Cabin rentals also. 3 rv parks some with hookups. Plenty of hiking trails.
Jason M (The Happy Campers)
We enjoyed our time at this campground. Beautiful mountain views. Campsites only include water and electric, but a dump station is available. Campground is close to an old mining town (Goldfield) with shops and restaurants. Campsites are large and had some distance from fellow campers. Hiking trails were available throughout the park. We had no issue getting a DirecTV and Verizon 4G signal. Freeway access and grocery stores is about 20 minutes away. We would camp here again.
Our family is currently traveling this beautiful country via RV style, and have been RV'ing for many years. Therefore, we have an idea between high-standard qualities and poor quality. We utilize Trip Advisor and Google to assist us on locating top attractions, tasty restaurants and exciting locations within our wonderful country. Follow our adventure via Facebook; “Happy Campers 227”.
Cory Grasser
Camped out and experienced Siphon Draw Trail on a perfect day. The hike alone is worth the admission. Very polite staff and a welcoming atmosphere for trail runners, hikers, and mountain bikers alike. Campsites are well spaced and marked. Will come back for sure!
Dennis Hammontree
the hike is great! be prepared for easy rock climing sections on the way up. loose gravel can be tricky coming down. but the view is spectacular from flat iron. bring $7 for the gate amd dont forget your gloves!!
Katherine Lakstins
Quiet, well maintained campground. Beautiful hikes, friendly park rangers. Loved this place!
Valerie Ritchie
Such a beautiful natural park. We love coming here with the kids to introduce them to hiking and we will be able to work up to more advanced trails here, too. The desert scenery is so beautiful.
Amber Thompson
We love this campground! Nice and peaceful. You feel like you're far away from civilization, but it's a fairly short drive from our house in South Chandler. We got a premium site that has electric and water and it was $30 a night. So worth it to have this view of the Superstition mountains right outside your tent! You can also walk to any of the trails easily. Facilities are kept clean too.
Maury C
It is a very nice campground. The only thing we didn't like is that the C loop doesn't have a restroom and shower. In order to use the shower you need to hike or drive to the next loop. You would think that each loop would at least have a outhouse! The restroom that we hiked to was very nice. The view is nice from the park. Lots of different cactus growing in the park. Some of the cactus are over 200 years old.
Andrew Hanning
Love this place I have hiked this 10 mile trail 3 times now since December. The hike is one of the most eye appealing trail I have seen around the pheonix area. It is 4300 in elevation at the peak. This is an inspirational hike. If fact the best story I can share is one from a man I met 2 weeks ago. He was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 years ago. Since then he has hiked Flat iron 104 times. Last year in November he was cleared of the diagnosis by his doctor. Don't tell his doctor this.... he has not changed his diet. And drinks 1 beer every night. I dont reccomend this, however I find it to be amazing!
Bengal Fan
This is one of the most enchanting places on earth. The vibes are very powerful and positive. Leave it better than you found it. You will not be disappointed seeing the superstition mountains.
Kenneth Wagner
One of the most seniec state parks in the West. Very clean and well maintained, with level paved RV sites. Beautiful trails and nearby attractions.
Helen K.
If enjoy hiking, and enjoy the openness of desert skyscrapers. This is a great place to venture out.
It has designated camp grounds and rest room facilities.
However, Mandatory ``NO BURN".
So, if you do want to hike or camp, please follow the law.
It for your protect and Great State of Az.

Love this park Siphen draw is a nice 3.5-5 hr round trip hike to and from the car for a moderate to experienced hiker to the iron of Superstition Mountain. It starts gradual for the first half to the basin of the draw (up to that point good for almost anyone) but from the basin up is climbing rock to rock with the trickiest point for the vertically challenged and dogs is at the very top. I am 5 ft 1 1/2 in and can do it. Beautiful view at the top.
Bring a camelback and suggest trail or hiking shoes and a trail stick or two comes in way handy on the way down; sand gets silty and slippery sometimes. (A group of really experienced hikers can make a full day of hiking up Siphon Draw and hiking the ridgeline to Carney Springs but definitely dusk and lots of rattle snakes toward the end of your hike.)
Yes, there are alot of rattle snakes out there at dusk late spring through early fall. They are ther during they day but typically sleeping under the shrub brush so not advised to venture off the beatin' path.
When your hike is done there is ice cream and cold drinks in the ranger station...lol
West Fisher
Beautiful campsites with really nice paved parking, clean tables, great fire pits... this place is very well kept!
Matt Phillips
It's a beautiful park, kept nice and clean. It was a perfect jumping-off point for a quick hike up Flatiron via the Siphon Draw Trail and a summit of Superstition Peak. On a weekday you might forget that you're close to the big city.
Our Tripy Life
Nice park with well maintained facilities. Beautiful hiking trails for all levels of experience.
Harrison H.
I’ve been out here about 50 times and I can’t get enough of it. There are many great views and it is exceedingly peaceful. I Love this hike!
Crystal Romero
Hiked flatiron off the siphon Draw trail very good challenge take lots of water!! 11 entry on site Tonto pass is not the correct pass.
Brian Hagan
Some great trails over here! Parking is $7, and if you get there prior to the ranger station being open, you can leave money in a little drop box and still park. The trails here range anywhere from leisurely to advanced with Treasure Loop Trail being on the easier end of the spectrum, and Flatiron via Siphon Draw being a challenging hike/rock climb. Definitely one of my favorite spots to hike!
larry scott
Partial hike up to the Flatiron, gr8 experience.
Kim Gentes
A great park with nice trails. This park is perfect for people who want to start with something easy and gradually work up to a challenging hike. The park has several nice trail heads with parking. It also has several options for camping including hook ups. There are day hike access passes and year round as well. Facilities are good with restrooms spread across the different areas. Maps are available with good advice from the ranger station with you enter the park.
One of the best things about this park is its accessibility to the metro Valley area. On the outskirts of Apache Junction in the east valley, this state park is one of the closest opportunities for you to view natural Arizona dessert scenery and still sleep in your Valley hotel (or your home).
That said, what I love most about this park, and its main attraction is not the camping (though, that is very good for Arizona), but it's great hiking trails. As such, I list my recommendations below for the park's best hikes, in my opinion.
EASY: The simplest and easiest hikes to start with here are Treasure Loop and Jacob's Trail. Treasure Loop has some elevation but is relatively short (3 miles) and rewarding (nice views and scenery). Jacob's Trail is flatter and a bit longer with a nice walking range across the face of the park.
MODERATE: When you've progressed to something more considerate, try Siphon Draw trail to the basin. At 3.9 miles, it has 1000 ft elevation and is a worthy hike for a family afternoon. Don't take it lightly, being plenty of water and take your time. Please note that March through September will have plenty of opportunity (as all Arizona trails do) to encounter rattlesnakes sunning themselves on the trails. Be aware and stay clear.
ADVANCED: When you are in very good shape and are ready for an intermediate to advanced level challenge, do the Flatiron ascent via Siphon Draw trail. You basically do the Siphon Draw trail mentioned above, and simply keep going the remaining mile to the top of the plateau! It sounds amazing- and it is!
Flatiron hike via Siphon Draw is just under 6 miles round trip with a whooping 2900ft elevation, wherein the last mile is approximately 2/3 of the entire hike's climb! That is 1900 ft gain in one mile. In fact, this trail is classified as Class 3 by rock climber scale. That means there is a good amount scrambling across rocks and some pulling yourself up in a few places. It's a work out. You shouldn't be scared if you are in strong shape, but bring a LOT of water and give yourself 6 hours. Attempting this hike with its steep incline in the last 1/3 of the ascent is not for folks who have not already prepared for it.
If you are a hiker, Flatiron Trail via Siphon Draw should be on your list as one of the top 5 hikes in the entire state. Stunningly beautiful, physically challenging and probably 2000-3500 calorie burn depending on your body weight. When you are done this, you've accomplished something and you should feel good about it.
For all the reasons I've listed above, Lost Dutchman State Park is a winner in my books. If you hike, it should be your first stop out of Phoenix.
JJ O
One of the coolest hikes ive been on in a whiles. Tip: Make sure to pack enough water
William Badās
The siphon draw trail is the real attraction for me. It's an amazing hike. A water bottle isn't gonna cut it. Bring water and shoes with aggressive tread. Gloves are nice too.
Sue Gee
We went at sunrise to see the Superstition Mountains. It was lovely, there were hikers already on trails. I was there for photography. Nice and clean. Two unescorted females, we felt safe.
Pablo Moyano
Flatirons trails best so far for me is 7$$ to get in but the place is unbelievable , very clean bathrooms and enough parking spots
jeff hollman
Great place to camp and hike. Not 5 stars because one of the hikes is to the restroom/showers. They were clean and spacious, though. No amenities other than hiking trails.
Ernesto Lopez
So close to Phoenix and great place to hike, chill, picknick, camp or spend the day. The sunsets are also amazing. I love to come here during spring and take pictures of flowers or hike up to flat iron.
Milind Kansara
Best hiking experience.. takes 5+ hrs to top n back. We loved it. Carry enough water and first aid kit as always.
Alicia Stensberg
Fantastic area to hike! A bit of an incline gets strenuous, but take it slow and you will be fine. The basin is very cool - both temperature and looks! Stay for a sunset for a real treat!
Lucy Mercado
I went hiking at Lost Dutchman State Park. The trails are well marked. I went early in the morning as the sun was coming up. It is a pretty site. Lots of fun.
Christopher Fogg
Amazing views of the Superstition Mts! Great sunrises and sunsets! The flora and fauna between the sites is beautiful and gives good privacy. Sites are well groomed and shower house/restroom was very clean. The Ranger staff was very polite and gave great assistance to our little explorers.
What a great park so close to the city!
Debbie Bolton
What a beautiful state park and campground. Easy access from Route 88 and it is well sign-posted from the road. Checkin was efficient. Peaceful, quiet setting at the base of Superstition Mountain surrounded by Saguaros and other native desert plants, yet within 5 miles of stores and restaurants. The scenery is stunning. Roads are paved and easy to navigate in any size rig. Sites are large and well spaced with a paved parking spot and crushed stone picnic area with table and grille/fire pit. Everything is very well maintained. Our site had water and electric. Not all sites do, so check the on-line reservation site for amenities. We had no problem getting level. There is a dump station easily accessible on the entry/exit road. Lots of trails available. Nice fenced dog park at the end of our loop, a first for us in state parks. We had good T-mobile signal. We will return here for sure. The park is very popular so book early.
Lynn Evans
One of our favorite State Parks in the Phoenix area. Great hiking, beautiful Views and sunsets.
Phylis Schiro
Great place for hiking trails and to see the natural landscape of the area. Nice clean park. Great views
Kevin Raab
Flatiron is one of the most popular day hikes in the Superstition Wilderness, just outside of Phoenix, AZ. The hike begins at Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction. Once inside the park, drive to the last parking area and look for a sign for the Siphon Draw Trailhead. I would recommend beginning the hike as really as possible to about the afternoon sun and also make it more enjoyable. Remember to bring 1 gal for water a person and some food. This is 6.5 miles minimum RT.
Anthony Ledbetter
Really enjoyed ourselves there I would love to come back if I get back to AZ. The western gunfight had me jumping the fudge ,drinks and food was delicious. A beautiful place 😍 …
Clint Cerro
Great State Park with some amazing views and hikes. Loved seeing that the host were willing to fly their flags for the United States with pride. The bathrooms are all clean, the campsites are in perfect shape. Crowded for a good reason, because it is awesome!
Lisha
Busy but well staffed at the entrance. Love the trails.
David Reyes
This is a must see! You can spend hours looking at all the random antiques scattered throughout. Go down the mine shaft, ride the train around, have lunch in the western restaurant and have the best ice cream in town! Please like if this helped out
Illini Trekker
Great state park very dog friendly! Loads of dumpsters water outlets signs trail markers. Camp host do there job keeping the place clean. Host came to the site next to us and asked that site to turn off there generator after quiet hours! 👍 …
John Mcaleese
Beautiful views, marked trails, great hike!! Will definitely visit again.
Lolly Lovell
Beautiful place to hike. Multiple parking lots and trails. $7 for a day pass. Year long pass available.
kelsey Roger
Beautiful day! Rangers were super nice!the trails were super clean. So much to look at. You don't even need to hike far to see great views!
Jon Chatelain
Great hike up via Siphon Draw.
Michele Petersen
Our favorite AZ State Park. So much to experience here. Hiking, bird watching, great camping, and the programs they have available to show and share the park are incredible. Lucky if you are here when Marty Davis is here singing.
Wanderess Warrior
Excellent camping and clean restrooms. Ranger station has some good items and great maps. The view is great from anywhere!
lori h
So beautiful and well kept. Sites are spaced apart and are solid surface. Elec and water hookups and a dump station. Quiet and peaceful. We loved it here and will definitely be back.
T J
One of the best places that I’ve visited in Arizona
If you have the chance (and a good driver) you should go here
Monica Kennedy
Many are not aware of the stunning beauty of the Arizona desert. Definitely a place everyone should visit at least once in their life.
Kevin Carr
Perfect day trip location. Be sure to check out the gift shop to pick up that something special to remember your trip. (My bad about the burger. That was at the second stop of our journey)
Ribena Siloam
serene atmosphere; so close to city but very quiet; great sunsets & sunrise; campground has excellent sites, not too close to each other
Ciara V
It cost $7 to park the car for a day pass. We hiked treasure loop trail. I had a 2 year old in the backpack and my 4 year old completed this 2.5 mile trail with only a couple difficult (tiring) spots. We hike all the time though, so she is pretty good with uphill hikes. Very beautiful view from the top, and pretty windy the day we went. We went in the morning so most of the trail was shaded as we got closer to the mountain. It kept us cool. Fun and beautiful trail, I'd definitely do it again!
Andrei Novakovskiy
The Siphon trail is challenging, but offers incredible views.
Good hiking shoes and plenty of water is a must.
Rugged and stunning.
Full day hike to the Flatiron top.
Emily Easton
Such a beautiful park. Stunning views.
I’m a photographer and I did an engagement session here. I got a permit ahead of time through the state and paid for the permit at the entrance. They were so great to work with. Highly recommend.
EDDIE VALLEE
Next to The Canyon and Sedona, this area is my favorite area of the state!
Lauri Wilson
Took a nice hike here on a sister vacation and loved it.
chuck renfroe
One of our favorite parks! Enjoyed Thanksgiving here 2021!
Melissa Linscott
Beautiful place for hiking, sun shelter's available for lunch. Bring the binoculars.
Andrew Morgan
Very friendly staff really helpful 👍 highly recommend to visit here …
Breanne Reith
Phenomenal views! Great selection of trails. Not a ton of parking available so it's better to go early.
Don Gib
Great place, only reason 4 stars, is they have a terrible rule for running generators
Lance Vett
Nice short hike with a wide open trail with a great view of the whole valley. Not to many people on the trail...
Beth M
One of our favorite state parks. Great campsites, beautiful views, nice trails. It's a short drive to Apache Junction for groceries.
Emily Heine
Beautiful as views in a well kept campground. Really wish there were more bathroom options.
Roger Blain
It's amazing to have such a nice state park so close to the metro. There is a nice variety of trail lengths and difficulty levels. Be sure to check the website if you are interested in guided activities, such as birding and geology hikes.
Tyler Weaver
Great place to visit. Great trials.
The rangers are nice, if they show up on time. I showed up at 6:40 AM on Monday and there was no one there. They open at 6.
If the employees would show up so I can get in, it would be PERFECT.
Edit: I have misread what the signs said. Thank you for your reply telling me the correct information. The office opens at 7 am. for debit perchases.
Suzy Díaz
Wonderful hiking options!
Luke Torgerson
Hiked treasure trail loop and a few other shorter trails. Great for beginners and absolutely amazing views!
Jeremiah Marks
Great camping experience. Great park rangers, knowledgeable and courteous. Great hikes all around.
Steven & Tracey Jiles
Amazing place. $10 Entry fee and it's totally worth it.
Bouchi Bellendier
It brings me❤️Peace❤️😌 …
Jacob
Beautiful hiking spot. Lots of places to go off the main trail and explore a little. Great views the further up you get.
Lynda Sutton
Beautiful park. Great for hiking , but bring twice as much water as you think you need.
Suzanne
We went for the two and a half mile Moonlight hike and it was great! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We've done this hike before and continue to enjoy the each time we go.
alexa hackett
It's incredibly beautiful and very accessible to someone who isn't prepared for a long or steep hike, but there also longer, more challenging trails too.
C Shannon
One of the most beautiful state parks in AZ. Well worth the trip--beautiful day, impressive vistas, and the blooming ocatillo made everything so colorful. Overall, we would highly recommend this location.
Eric Pinson
The hikes are awesome! The park ranger/welcome center staff is rude... rude and rude. We entered the park and paid and we're told to turn right. We did so and supposedly parked in a Non Day use area parking lot... AKA, parking lot for overflow camper parking. So, we get a ticket while hiking and while explaining that we just listened to the guide upon entering.... The ENTIRE STAFF was rude! Attitude, no empathy, no listening, just defend defend defend. I don't know if the money goes to Pinal county or the park but someone wants all the $$ they can collect.
Aida Awad
Easy to access trails of all levels. Scenic vistas. Be sure to take the trail map with you. There are no maps psoted once you are on the trails.
Marci Martinez
This is our 3rd time camping here with our 5th wheel! It seems to get better every time! The staff is really nice and the sites are clean!
Dawn
Spot #32 (very level pad)
20/30/50 amp & water
Table & Grill
Decently spaced from others.
Restrooms are 1/4 mile away
I believe I seen a dog park that looks fairly new. Desert scaped chain link area, pretty large.
Pulled through the wrong way so we could look at the mountain from our pop up from the door side.
Very quiet and lots of quail.
It's August so it's HOT!
Park obviously doesn't have many visitors this time of year and with covid it's probably even less. You must reserve the day prior to arrival no same-day check in. Which is a bummer for a local resident who impulsively just wanted to get out of the house for a quick getaway. Anyhow it's clean, it's beautiful and it's close to home.
Oh and this was our first time ever plugging in to camp, we only boondock. So yea! We made it to a campground for another "first time experience".
Ryan Collins
Just randomly tried this park out and was very glad I did. The ranger was incredibly friendly and helpful. The trails are great. Definitely a hidden treasure away from the crowds.
Judy
Everywhere you go and even as you enter they tell you NO PHOTOS! so leave your camera at home. There is a big fee for a camera permit. Crazy!
Devona Cook
Go early so you can have lunch or dinner at the restaurant there. Fun gift shop and lots of local history.
Ezequiel Gonzalez
Beautiful place to find peace of mind!
Lauri Kittelson
Really nice state park, a little small but some great hiking options and wonderful voews of the land! Well laud out campground too
Sarah Russell
gorgeous lanscape! cheap entrance fees! tons of parking & hiking trails! SUNSETS! holy-moley.
Lawrence Sutherland
This place is magical.....The park rangers are friendly as well the camp host. Everyday the Superstition Mountain is a show to see at any time. At night the desert comes alive and the star viewing great.
Sarah Mowdy
My first visit in the area, and I loved it. There are roughly marked paths everywhere, the ranger station/greeters were very nice and friendly, and the views are spectacular. You'll probably do just as well at any of the parks in the area, but this one has tons of parking and was the first major stopping area.
Stephanie van de Water
Amazing hike and views. Be prepared for elevation gain, some slippery surfaces, and a bit of a scramble. Bring lots of water and some snacks. Binos if you have them. Totally worth it.
Douglas Garrett
Haven't camped here yet but the sites look nice. Many with electrical and water.
Don Nakano
Great hiking and camping spot. Well groomed trails. Everything from easy to difficult. Incredible views.
Ponte Vedra
We loved hiking Treasure loop trail #56!! Beautiful view of the mountains!! Very nice and clean bathrooms. We wanted to camp here but all booked up in winter!! Make your reservation early!!
Elsbeth Pollack
Visit during the springtime for some beautiful Arizona wildflowers. There are a number of trails through the park, some that cross into Tonto National Park, and range in difficulty, which is good for various groups. Bring lots of water because it does get hot! There are a number of benches and places to sit to get a great view of the Superstitions. And with Apache Junction close by along with other attractions, it is easy to make a day trip of this from Phoenix.
Craig Kaufmann
A great southwest experience park. From various cacti to wildlife, and scenic hiking trails. The campground has the Superstition mountains as a beautiful backdrop.
Adrien Patanè
Amazing views, epic scenery and well marked trails, Sunset here is stunning and just under 45 mins from downtown. Worth the jaunt if you have time
Nancy Lares
My husband and I decided to check out some of the hiking trails and we loved it!! The trails were very clean. The bathrooms were also very clean. If going in the summer bring lots of water. We went in the fall and it was warm and drank every bit of water we brought. Sunscreen a must. The views where stunning! We will definitely be back.
Kevin Todd
Beautiful hiking in the spring time. Not as many flowers as sometimes.
Nathan Van Zweden
quite a few people there but no trash looked really clean.
Karen Plavic
My favorite camping spot! My husband and I have been here 4 times and will definitely camp/hike here again. The camp grounds and facilities are always clean and the hosts are always very friendly and helpful.
Bernadean Archuleta
Awesome place to visit, very relaxing and Beautiful place to be.
Christan Matthews
Hiking is open but be careful there is Little critters out there so to carry a walking stick rattlesnakes and such please don't put your hands or your face anywhere where you can't see it the views are absolutely breathtaking bring plenty of water
W Querin
Great state park. Quiet and peaceful. Right next to superstition mountain and hiking trails. Our second time here. Will be coming back again.
Brandon Heyboer
Great place for hiking and some perfect Arizona scenery
Katy Franz
This park was beautiful. 1st time here, will be adding to our repeat list. Plenty to hike, see and local food was good.
Sharon Woodward
My Lost Dutchman Park Hero!!! A Western Diamondback was at my rear tire in the dark! I was packing to leave in the morni g... He drove by checking on everyone and I flagged him down freaking out! He was so calm n cool and captured the snake to release elsewhere. Man! Gotta appreciate the Rangers!!
Vijay Pentapati
Hit this trail in spring... pleasant green landscape in Arizona... will miss this in summer
Melanie Burrell Nichols
Great hiking trails
Andrea Hunt
You cannot beat the mountain views and the great trails!
Laura W
Edible and medicinal plant walk April 15 with Georgy. She is terrific and we learned so much.
Benjamin Walles
Treasure loop trail is fun, make sure to look up trail difficulties before you get out there
Yeny Mendoza
Nice place to hike and beautiful nature.
Chato Aalona
Great place to spend the day. Hike until you can’t hear anyone else.
Ethelynn Hougen
Great place to sit and draw, hike, relax, and look at the mountains.
Andrew Ackerman
Wish all states could build & maintain their state campgrounds like AZ. This is a little gem close to Phoenix. I love that they don't commercialize the desert experience making it feel like a wilderness--which if you hike far enough it actually is designated Wilderness. Lost Dutchman is affordable, fairly quiet, no monstrosity RVers, nice showers, trails, roads, tent pads, picnic tables, etc. And its scenic!
lAL L
Its a nice park. The campground is nice. Facilities were clean and sites had space between them. Trails were mediocre. We didn't care for the Siphon hike but we would like to try the less busy trails. There were pretty views at sunset and sunrise. The superstitious area looks pretty neat when the sunsets, lots of color.
Kathy Shackleton
3rd visit, over a period of 7 years. Great views, washrooms need work.
Wifi would be nice. Evening concerts woyld be nice too. Trails are nice.
Katherine Perrone
We love this campsite. The views were beautiful and the campsites were spacious. Bathrooms were clean, nice paths from each campsite to bathrooms
Margo Fournier
Great state park, awesome views of the Superstition mountains
Freddie Duran
Took my grand-nephews, 6 and 4, on their very first hike and it was a beautiful day. A perfectly overcast 70° day. Memories...
Eddie Owiti
Worth a visit. If you have the physical prowess, I would recommend doing the siphon draw to flat iron. It is worth the view at the top!
Darryl Cross
Best park in the valley! And the view... spectacular!
Jamie Heath
Beautiful. Plenty to do. Awesome camp sites.
RORY FLECK
Rangers were friendly and welcoming. Great spot to hike.
Hotpepper gyrl
The best park in AZ. Amazing sunsets.. Lots of wildlife to be seen and heard..
Debra McGhan
Get up close and personal with the beautiful rock features of the Lost Dutchman. Fun hiking, camping and biking in the desert yet close to everything around the Phoenix area.
Jared H
Had a lot of fun hiking this amazing park
Ben Nelson
This is an amazing place. I don't really know what to add other than just head to the park and check it out. It's awesome!
Bob Lewis
Great hiking trails....very challenging!!!
Paul Stanley
One of the best kept State Parks! Plenty of space, great hiking beautiful surrounds
Brian Newcomb
Must see AZ state park!
Dave Lein
Trails are easy to follow and friendly to all ages and experiences. Beautiful scenery makes it a great place to visit.
Nita Leavell
Beautiful mountain view! Love this spot. The staff was very friendly and let us know that they were still in snake season so beware. My lil one says he was ready for the snake as he is armed with his nerf gun!
The sight the was clean and the grounds are well kept. We'll definitely visit again.
Theresa Ridgeway
Absolutely the most breathtakingly gorgeous views from every campsite. Becoming so popular it is hard to get reservations, must call ahead quite far in advance. GREAT PLACE!!
Matt Brown
Clean grounds and pleasant staff. Nice for a day hike or camping out for a few days. Great views.
Mark T. Weston
Beautiful place great friendly staff everywhere were we went
Rebekah Bryant
Great Fun! I am from South Carolina, so the landscapes are just amazing to me! Definitely go to this fun gem in Arizona! The staff I encountered here were very friendly!
jennifer steele
The beauty of the mountains and wide open desert is breathtaking. You can view from your car, go for a hike, mountain bike. Better to go in the cooler months, so you can fully enjoy it. Nice to make an entire day of it and continue to Canyon lake too, which isn't that far from there. It's very green right now, makes for an even prettier hike, flowers should be coming soon.
Jan Sršeň
A nice little park that offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area
ARIZONA FIT-VENTURES
Beatiful well maintained State Park with spectacular scenery and great hiking.
Mike Perea
Greatest view s of the mountain and has camping area's
Roderic Jones
They say there's gold, somewhere down yonder.
Rachael Indian
The surrounding beauty and peaceful quiet was awesome. Hard to get a reservation
kehively
Nice campground. Great views of the Superstition mountains. We like the last loop, the best. The hookup loop still has good views. Nice hiking trails.
Theresa Fogle
If you are new to hiking in Arizona, it is best to start early in the morning—when the sun is low in the sky, wear protective headwear and sunscreen, and bring plenty of drinking water.
Tom Markham
Very cool place. I wish we had more time to explore. Will visit again.
Mateo “Jedi Master”
Great time! Just a warning to not take kids younger than 16 on to flatiron.
Photography 420
Great place to go hiking 🚶♀️ …
Camille Doran
Omg I think this is one of my favorite places. The Superstion Mountain is right there in all her beauty and majesty
Pete T. Szmurlo
The best park in Arizona !
debra vogelsang
Such a cool place with an unforgettable view of the superstition mountains. Our your guide was fantastic. His love of the area and his knowledge was great, he even looked like a miner.
Evelyn Vance
This is a great park. Clean, clear access to trails. Can't beat the view of the Superstition mountain from this park.
Joshua Hunger
We really liked this park. Stayed for a week and enjoyed every day. The views are amazing and the hiking was great. We had a nice pull through loop and level spot. Highly recommend this park!
Nigel Brett
Got married here an loved it. Have hiked here several times now as well. Excellent place, but fills up quickly so get these early. You can hike to the top but it is a very difficult climb at the end and pretty treacherous so bring water and some snacks because it's going to take even advanced hikers several hours round trip. Not for the faint of heart for sure, especially Siphon draw to Flatiron, not for kids. Treasure loop would be appropriate for children and you still get amazing views. Facilities are well maintained and the park rangers do an excellent job of keeping things orderly.
KC
So beautiful! Google nails it when it lists this as a must visit place in the area. We saw the most beautiful sunset. Come prepared though, it is scorching hot (keep in mind, we were here in July... But still) plenty of wildlife and contrary to some of the other reviews I read before we went here, we didn't mind the fee. It costs money to upkeep such a natural and beautiful place...
Christian Buse
It's exactly what I expected. For the most part it's very beautiful and quiet, however I saw three coyotes within a span of 15 minutes so that's a little concerning. It's also extremely hot so if you decide to go definitely bring a fan and a portable battery or else you're not going to have a very fun time. I thought it would be cooler at night (I'm from central California) and hot during the day but I was wrong, it's hot always during the summer.
Lucas Bodine
The mountains and trails are great, I feel likes it Robbery for the tax payer to have to pay park fees. I have been going here for YEARS and payed my self service fee as listed yet they wanted extra $ now that’s it’s a weekend from October to April. Things like this make my want to avoid paying for this park in the future.
Tony Morris
Big desert and lots to survey, with or without a camera. Great areas to park and Access the trails, plenty of on line maps available.... don't forget to take water and tell someone where you're going.
Ahmad Osman
Excellent trails. Nice paved parking lots. I wish they were not expensive I would come there more often
K D
Great place to go for an easy stroll or more challenging hike. The Treasure Loop Trail is a very nice option for a moderate hike. It is 2.4 miles round trip, with a 500 foot elevation change. The views and terrain are wonderful. There is lots of parking and restroom facilities located in the parking area. Definitely wort a visit.
Jamie Addy-Houser
We had a great camping visit! Spaces are well maintained, and tent camping is mostly on it’s on loop. The bathrooms were so clean! Lovely views from campsite and stargazing on a clear night.
David Smeeth
Super nice campground with easy access to east valley trail systems. Be sure to reserve early if you want to avoid camping next to huge RVs - the tent sites are pretty nice and have a secluded feeling. There are nice trails right outside the campground, and the following excellent trail areas are a short drive away: Usury, Lost Goldmine, McDowell Mountain, the Arizona Trail, and others. I usually visit here once or twice a year and spend several days on my mountain and gravel bikes.
Lt Dan
The scenery is gorgeous and the facilities are decent. The staff is friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the number of visitors who run generators all hours of the day. It's distracting and the restricted generator hours were not being enforced while we were there. They should just consider adding electric to all RV sites.
LoudMinded 22
I enjoy the outdoors n how well kept amenities are also
Chuck Trefts
Great hiking, mountain bike trails, easy pull through sites, central dump station, but power and water in many sites. Sites are well kept. Phenomenal sunrises and sunsets. Convenience store. Great way to spend a few days and relax.
Shirley Drake
Beautiful State Park with excellent camping facilities.
noah fennema
Super clean very well maintained and a blast great views awesome hikes!
Janice Krieger
Wonderful park and great for RV camping
John Niggli
Moonlight tour was fantastic. Plenty of wonderful scenery and the guide did a great job with the facts and legends during the tour.
Teri M
Great place for a sunset hike. We hiked the treasure loop trail. Beautiful views. Hard enough to get your heart pumping, but nothing small kids couldn't handle. We went on a Saturday, and it was pretty busy. Park was well maintained. Will probably return and check out the camping area. Overall beautiful desert area not too far out of town.
Robert Wiersema
I have hiked there several times and camped once. Beyond the views, the wildlife, and the desert plants, the facilities are amazing. Trails are well kept. Rangers and volunteers are polite and wave when they pass. I have no problem paying the $7 day use or the $15 for overnight camping when the trails, the bathrooms, parking lots, water, plant markers and such are so well kept. Camping overnight was very nice. You can reserve a spot with a view, reserve one with electricity, they have clean bathrooms, and even hot showers. All sites have mini-grilles and fire pit combos. All seem pretty level. Again trails are well marked and everything gets cleaned once a day.
Jack Miller
Great state park, I have hiked to the Flat Iron multiple times and enjoyed the experience. Definitely best in the fall or spring as it gets extremely hot and dangerous in the summer. Took a dog (40 lbs cattle dog) on my last hike to the Flat Iron. Made it up to the last rock wall and decided not to attempt for the safety of the dog. Beautiful hike, lots of work, but well worth the view!
Amy Bourgea
A peaceful place with great views.
Danielle Prosperie
A beautiful and memorable hike, not too difficult, and a lot of fun! Bring your dogs!
Mindi Bennett
Great Campground, trails and views! Only hiccup is that there is only one dump station and no sewer hookups at sites :(
Kent Flake
Beautiful scenery and great hikes all over here. I love this place in the spring!
John Matson
I don't think the Dutchman ever got lost. I think he just went home and used his gold to start his own cheese factory.
Rick
Can't get overnight camping this time of year all booked up
Spenser Call
Great camping! Super clean sites and ready to set up your tent. Love the easy access to hiking.
Norma Alfaro
Great trails! Will definitely be back. We did the Treasure Loop Trail and added Prospect Trail to Jacob's Cross cut then back to Treasure Loop. Total 3.1 miles.
eric lord
Great campground. Lots of hiking. Great views. Water and electric hookups. Dump station.
Jp
Love this place. Came here for the sunset and it's unforgettable. If your in the area this place is a must.
Ken Murray
One of Arizonas most beautiful views and some of the best hiking.
Lily Holland
Great camping experience.
Beautiful park. There are no bad camping spots.
Melanie Taylor
Some of the best short trails around. Love, love the superstitions.
Brian Gingras
Great hiking trails. Decent parking lots, just go early like everywhere else. Most all the trails connect to each other so you can make you hike short or longer. Nice rangers as you enter the park. Perfect spot to see wildflowers in the spring.
Erik Wilt
AZ state parks are some of the nicest I've seen!
Yash Bhatt
Amazing state park with great trails. Very well maintained and there is a $7 daily charge or a $75 annual option for all AZ state parks. Very clean facilities and bathrooms. We did the treasure loop trail which had excellent views and took about an hour to complete the 2.4 mile loop. Highly recommended.
Jens-Uwe Walther
Nice Campground with showers, flush toilets and the awesome Superstition Mountains aß a Background
Seth Foley
INCREDIBLE.... I can’t say enough. Hiking, camping, picnicking with family, this is the place. I have lived in the valley for over a decade and it took me WAY too long to discover this place. Breathtaking views, absolutely amazing!!! So much so that we got married here!!! If you love what Arizona has to offer and you haven’t been to Lost Dutchman State Park, you are missing out. This place is beautiful!!! The hike all the way to the summit isn’t easy, and I wouldn’t recommend it for novice hikers or climbers, but even if you don’t hike up, you can enjoy these breathtaking vistas from ground level as well!!!
Sheila Trainer
What a fun place to camp in hike and look at the wildlife
Terri Hensen
We host weddings here at the Roadrunner site!! I work at the Views At Superstition in Gold Canyon. We love this site!!
Pam Huston
Probably our favorite Arizona State Park. Beautiful views, very well maintained. Lots of little critters and birds to watch, plus hiking if you so chose.
Oakley Taylor
What an amazing and beautiful place this is! The weather is mostly warm, lots of hiking trails. The beauty is breathtaking! Camp spots are spaced well enough apart so you have some privacy. We loved this place. It’s very clean and reasonably priced. So many camp hosts were all friendly as well as park staff. Whoever designed this place did a great job.
Outsiders 9
Easy to moderate trails not too crowded. Spectacular views and the sunset/sunrises are amazing. Near the afternoon you start to hear beautiful nature sounds as in animals and wind blowing through the desert.
Cassandra Ruiz
Kind of bummed. We got there yesterday before they said the office closed but no one was there. We had questions so we tried to drive around to see where we could camp. Half of the spots were closed off and we got a little lost. We didn't end up camping there and left. Probably would have stayed if we were able to get questions answered. Overall, it looked clean though but $25 a night for no hook ups was a little high.
Rusty Ward
Great place to hike. Expect lots of sun with little shade. Don't expect to find the gold!
BLR (Shades)
We didn't go into the park it's self we were in the parking lot before the ranger building. We wanted to see what it looked like, since we had some disabled people with us and were not planning on going for a hike, plus we were headed to Canyon Lake. It was a day of sightseeing for some out of town guest. Scenery is fabulous on this drive.
Lisha Smith
Beautiful park and great cabins!
Jason Costello
So amazing. If you are lucky enough to be in the area. This place is awesome. My wife and I took a trail that was just EPIC!! . Goes up flat Iron . Some super steep climbing/hiking. Hard for dogs and week legs. Not for folks scared of heights. Go get some Stoke on the mountain. The campground was awesome to have a fire and watch the Stars.
Cyndi Nickelson
Nice trails up to some awesome views of Apache Junction
Jan Elliott
Just visited this state park for the day, but did a drive-thru of the camping facilities and discovered that I would definitely like to return. The hiking trails are nice (different levels of capability & length), but remember this is desert country... make sure you have plenty of water & sunscreen!
Stacey B
The area of superstition mountains is spectacular. I love the view and I love all the different types of cactus saturating the area. The teddy bear cholla and prickly pear are my favorite. It's a great spot for star gazing even with the light pollution from the neighboring towns. Unfortunately the staff here are kind of a distaster. They saw our tripods in the back of the car and started aggressively interrogating us about doing photography and asking if we have social media. According to that ranger, there's no photography allowed in the park, even non-commercial, not even permit options. What kind of a state park is that? It's just bizarre. Do they treat people taking photos with phones the same way? I've never encountered that kind of un-friendliness in any park. Fortunately Tonto is right next door.
Art Brown
The park is clean and well-kept. It's up against the Superstition Wilderness, which has miles of trails through beautiful desert scenery. My son's wedding was at this park and the mountains provided a fantastic background for photos. The park is large and has a separate area for large groups to camp together. The office is small but has maps and guide books for the area for sale. There are plenty of touristy things to do nearby. Goldfield Ghost Town is about a mile away. In the other direction, the drive to Canyon Lake and beyond is one of the most scenic in the state. You can find horse rentals near the park. Even though it's at the edge of town, there are popular restaurants a short drive away, also.
Charmayne Danton
We love this place!! We’ve been to 30 states and 6 provinces - almost 100 campgrounds. This place is in our top 5. The views and campsite sizes are fantastic. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They keep everything so clean and peaceful. A+
logie z
It snowed here a couple of times in 2019. One of my top favorite places to hike. The flora and fauna is spectacular with the majestic background of the Superstition Mountains. The loop trails make it an enjoyable hike. Always bring more water than you think you need even during the winter time. Please, read up about any hiking trails in AZ and go prepared. There have been so many rescues because of ill prepared visitors and locals alike. Treat this place as what it is...the wilderness.
Henry Morris
Love coming here to camping and walking trails. Restroom are cleaned everyday and hot shower. Great scenic area. Prices are good 25.00 a nite for camp site for a day and night. Check out time is noon.
Natalia Fonseca
Breathing is all I can say! You have to see it to believe it.
Justin Atkinson
Desert camping isn't really my thing but this place really had a good set up and I'd probably consider going again. It had a beautiful view of the mountains and great hiking trails. In the morning it was nice to wake up and see the back drop outside.

This is a nice state park. There are tent sites, RV sites, some with power and water, some without. We stay here often and always have a nice view. Easy access to hiking trail to Superstition Mountains. Dump station. Friendly host and park rangers. They also have events like bird watching talks.

May i please have your permission to use the Superstion Mountain photo with the sun in the middle of the canyon rocks to use at my husband's memorial service on Sunday because that is exactly where he wants his ashes scattered. Thank you.

The park rangers are awesome (friendly and knowledgeable). The scenery is amazing at dawn and dusk (couldn't go on any trails due to wild fires). The bathrooms are clean, and the sites are spacious.

Excellent state park with clean facilities and ample parking. The views are excellent as well.

Lovely campgrounds. Cabins have electricity, heat, and air but no plumbing. Bathroom and showers are a short walk. Great trails but they need better signage. I can see why they have to do rescues regularly out there. Several benches along the way on the Siphon Draw Trail.

Absolutely gorgeous campground!

We love Lost Dutchman State Park! It is in our backyard and it is gorgeous year round! We have only done a few of the trails so far, but they all have been easy to follow and marked well. We have taken our kids on the Discovery Trail and the Lost Treasure Loop. My husband and I have hiked Flat Iron. Really great place!

This is a nice campground right at the base of Superstition mountains with a beautiful view of the mountains itself. There are clean and well maintained bathrooms with shower rooms as well. The evenings are beautiful and nights starry and quite. I do not see any pictures of the campground so posting few to give an idea of the terrain.

What a place to breath cool, clean air on a nice fall morning hike!
