Reviews of Will Rogers State Historic Park
Galip iron
I recently visited and was thoroughly impressed by the amenities and the nature offered. The park offers plenty of car parking, which makes it easy to get in and out of the park. The hiking trails were well-maintained and offered many long paths with different difficulty levels.
The weather during my visit was rough for hiking, it was rainy which made it enjoyable to be hiking! I was able to take my time and explore different areas of the park, and I found plenty of beautiful views, fresh air, and peacefulness along the way.
Overall, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great hiking experience with long paths, good car parking facilities, and nice weather. It is a great spot to enjoy the nature, to disconnect and to get some exercise. I will definitely be returning soon.

Had a wonderful low-key hiking experience with our 2- and 4-year-olds. They loved watching the horses grazing, being brushed, and being ridden in the stable area. We even made it about 1/2 mile up the dirt trail past the circular Goat Pen (no goats), with some pleasant morning shade on the trail. And the big grassy lawn next to the Ranch House was perfect for the kiddos to run on!
Parking was $3 for one hour, $6 for two hours, and $12 for the day. There was a soccer game on the polo field so the parking lot was pretty crowded, but there was additional parking farther away. Bathrooms near the main entrance was reasonably clean.
Mohammad Afsar
Went on a rainy day but it was still incredibly scenic and uplifting (no pun intended hehe). Paid parking at the entrance lot. Well maintained trails. Difficult parts had railings. There were picnic tables at scenic spots as well. Will return on a sunny day!
winnie
Fairly easy hike. The view of the Hollywood to dtla and spanning to the ocean near Santa Monica/Malibu was incredible. The park closes at 6:45 pm (sunset). Although the rangers are nice and will give you a warning + wait for you, try not to leave your car in the parking lot because it will get locked in.

Must visit! The hiking trails are phenomenal, truly a beautiful place to walk through, views of the mountains, beaches, and pretty much all that Southern California has to offer, a great escape from city life for a day. Fresh air and lots of nature, come here for a great way to recharge.
Ed Reif
An oasis with lots to do-options including tours of the 31 room house, horseback riding, and a moderate three mile hike loop to Inspiration Point.
Bubba
Nice place to visit. You can go picnicking or just enjoy the fresh air because of the proximity to the ocean at high elevation. Clean easy hiking trails for the whole family. Unfortunately, some of the tours only run a few days in a week, which is Thursday through the weekend. Dog friendly is a plus.
Sven Ballhausen
Nice parc only entered first half hour from parking lot. Many nice people, excellent view on Bay. Good hiking experience, both medium and steep option possible directly from start.
Paige Havins
Great hike up to the lookout! Took my 7 month old in her carrier and it was easy to do with a little one. Beautiful view, just wish it was clearer the day we went!
Marina Miranovich
It's a great park, with a lot of trails, toilets. Keep in mind, there is an entrance fee.
🚘 parking - there is a plenty of parking spots, but you'd need to pay a fee. It's $3 for an hour with, max $12 for a day. Parking rangers accept only cash, but there is a parking meter next to them, which accepts cards. Or you could install an app and pay there.
🚾 Rest rooms - there is a separate WC for men/women with multiple stalls . It's clean and has water/soap inside
🥾& 🐕 Hiking with dog - it's a dog friendly park, with all hikes available for dogs in a leash. Be aware of rattlesnakes. Other than that hikes are nice, with a lot of shades, perfect even on a hot day
anthony e.
Gorgeous hike on the west side of LA. Easy to medium level, lots of views of the pacific and the city on different sides of the trails. I can’t wait to go back and explore more!
Gregg Wagener
This is a very nice park for a hike. You can get a good view of the city. There is a horseback riding school. They have trail rides. The Backbone Trail starts or ends here depending on perspective.
ana pechenik
Great place for a local polo match. Although mostly sun exposed, there’s shaded areas around the perimeter.
Tom Parker
Great place for the whole family. You can learn a little history about one of our country's best loved, most quoted humorist and get a good hike in if you wish.
Lauren Stowe
Such a great hike! Awesome views with interesting, varied terrain.
scott shimotsu
Great park for the extensive hiking trails and the field to enjoy lunch with friends and family. Parking sometimes on the weekends gets a little packed, so aim to be there earlier in the day. Don't forget water and snacks if you get out to the hiking trails as it often can be hot in the summer and fall days.
Marques Kingsby
One of my favorite sunrise hikes in the city, and just a beautiful hike overall. Great place to bring friends, family, children, and more. Hikes for all levels so don’t think that there isn’t one for you, no matter how advanced or novice you are!!!
Mayur Patel
This is an excellent place to come for a hike, bike ride, or even ride a horse (if you have one). The public parking is not free - it costs $3 per hour. It was rather crowded on a Sunday morning/afternoon. There are park rangers that were enforcing mask wearing, which was great to see - especially on such a crowded trail. It seems that there are a few trails near the beginning and they all meet at one main one that goes towards the bridge. The bridge is a little anticlimactic, as it does not go over air or water - its more of a path on a rocky cliff. The hike to this point is about 2 miles, making is 4 miles round trip.
Craig Jack
Great hiking location if your looking for an easy trails. Large flat dirt roads in the front area of the park. Trails are dog friendly. There are some steep stairs depending which way you go.
Jen H
The docent was fantastic. He knew all of Will Rogers stories. Made it a fun visit. Grounds week well kept. If you don't want a tour, it's still fun to walk all over the grounds. They say there are polo matches there from May to September on Saturdays and Sundays.
Sam Siam
Will Roger park is a true gem to LA residents. Those on the Westside that seek refuge will find that the trails and views bring an uncanny sense of release and freedom. Explore your way to Inspiration point, Rivas, or begin the long journey down the backbone trail. You won’t be disappointed.
Ehsan Ghalamzan
One of the best trails close to West LA
Ilan Portugali
Fun 7 mile hike / trail run! Beautiful views, nice elevation . Got to get there early to avoid the LA hiking crowds of 830-9am...
Nika Bielska
Love these hikes and the part itself.
Polo field and picnic zones are now closed 😷
You can pay for parking via mobile app
There is also charger for electrical vehicles
Sammy Mastroianni
Went today (5/25) in the late afternoon and thankfully it wasn't as crowded as I expected, being a holiday weekend. Parking is $12 for the day or $3 for an hour in the main lot. I did notice some street parking on the hill on the way up, but none was available. Very nice dog friendly hike with horses around the trails as well as some shade for resting. The view from Inspiration Point was really nice, minus all the smog circling the city, it was quite a view. You need a mask on the trails, due to Covid-19, and are reminded that by the attendant on the way in, of course about 50% of the people there didn't have them on, which isn't a surprise, but that was the highest amount of responsible people that I have come across that were wearing masks on the trail since the trails opened back up. My dog had a blast there as well having her first encounter with a horse :) @rosie_saurus_rex on IG for more :)
Wil M.
Nice park. They had a equestrian event when I showed up so parking was a bit more difficult. We ended up in the paid lot, but it filled up fairly quickly. Pretty decent hikes in this park with nice views of LA. It can get hot, so make sure to bring water. Lots of the areas are exposed and don't have a ton of shade.
Abe Achkinazi
Nice historic park. Museeum currently closed due to covid, but can walk the grounds and the trails beyond. On a clear day can see Santa Monica, the Pacific, and the cities to the east. Lots of parking but expensive at $12, the only remainer you are in Pacific Palisades
Amir Khamesi
I visited this place with my son and we both liked this place. Except some horses back left in pathways was clean with nice people and horses the entrance fee that is look is for parking is 12$ and you can ride a horse and just pay tips. So, if you park your car in the street you don’t need to pay parking fee.
Reichen Yoo
A great place to have the weekend family activities like picnic, hiking or horse riding. Super comfortable. And the trail is very nice to see the hills and Pacific coast. The huge grassland is good for the families!
honeybee
I took my dog on the 2 mile inspiration loop, the trail is nice a cool, most likely since its near the ocean. There are connecting trails, but only a few are dog friendly. see map bottom left for dog friendly trails.
Kien Tsoi
Great place to hike and the walk is easy for first timers. Wide and open and bathroom at trailhead. Perfect for young kids and the view is awesome!
Jake Perez
It's a great park to hike. Has great trails and great views of LA. Parking was only $12 for the whole day. If you're going to hike, be sure the weather is suitable and you bring water/snacks.
Steven Voboril
Took a hike run up is the park. The time of COVID-19 . Wednesday afternoon I was one of 4 cars in the low lot. Came back to a full lot but it wasn't crowded.
J. BISBAL
Great easy hike to Inspiration Point with several trail options to get up there, it takes about 1 hour round trip, not shaded but also not crowded. Airliner canyon, ocean and city views, 180 degree Malibu to downtown L.A.
Horses, bikes and dogs are allowed on trails.
Plenty of safe pay parking, open from sunrise to sunset.
Henni Sundlin
I grew up going to Will Rogers for hikes with my dad. It’s a beautiful and often not too crowded state park (which is hard to come by in Los Angeles). The hikes are short and easy and you’ll likely run into some critters or even a coyote! Highly recommend taking people from out of town for a beautiful city and ocean view.
Mei-Lien Converse
Quite large park. Def didn't see everything.. The view from the top is quite nice and worth the short hike. There are multiple paths to the top. If they look like this and are narrow, you aren't taking the correct path!! We couldn't find it but I guess its obvious to find. It should be a nice big path a solid 6-8 ft wide.. The parking is $12 for the lot. Apparently there is free parking further away from the hike entrance.. The park rangers we did run into were extremely nice and helpful. Would hike again and look for the proper loop..
Joe Edward
A great place to bring kids to experience "nature" L.A.-style. A trillion $$ view! The 1/2 mile hike to inspiration point is the perfect hike. Bring a sandwich and eat at the top on picnic tables. $12 to drive into the park but you can park on a side street and walk in for free. Parking gates close in the fall/winter @ 4:45pm and 7p in spring/summer.
Monica Martinez
The views were breathtaking. Unfortunately the house was not open because we arrived very early to hike the Inspiration loop trail. We did encounter a horse stable while hiking this trail. It was so cute and we got to see a few horses. They also had a section that had displayed a few historical farming equipment. I liked how educational this place was. It was an amazing learning experience. It's a great place to take your kids and your four legged friends.
Robert Petrie
Small park between two neighborhoods. Good place for dogs or a picnic. I dont believe there are true trails, although there is a garden, which was closed when I visited.
Jake Kaminsky
Start the hike to Inspiration Point at a high school that is much nicer than most colleges. Once you reach the summit, take a very pleasant detour up the Backbone Trail to a sky bridge! We went on a beautifully foggy late afternoon. Great views, solid and easily navigable trails. Dig it!
Denis Campbell
Beautiful large green space with historic buildings. There is a tour of Will Rogers House which is free. No photos allowed inside the house. There is also a visitor center, polo field, stable and horses. Cost is $12.
Hanan Hamad
There is a trial which is great to hike and enjoy the view.
Sophie Rappé
Easy hike and great views. Parking is $12 but you can usually find street parking. If you're going on the weekend, try to get there around 5pm or later since the neighborhood parking is permit only before 5pm (only weekends).
Julieta Li Carrasquilla
I’ve been here in several occasions and I enjoyed every time I’m up. This beautiful place has trails with amazing views of both the ocean and the mountains and you can hike up to the inspiration point where you can find peace and serenity with great vibes!
Kathy Lambert
A beautiful place to walk around. Easy hike with great views. Pretty Birds
Tom Brander
Very nice place to visit, you do need to pay for parking though. Tours of the house on the hour. Enjoyable walking about.
Garett Martocello
Great place to ride your bike or hike, gets crowded on the weekends but is a ghost town on week days. Great views and cool historic buildings from when Will Rogers owned it.
Jessica Doyle
Incredible Views in a tranquil setting. Trails range from moderate to difficult. Recommend going on clear days if you want to see downtown LA.
Richard Perez
Excellent local hiking trails. Not crowded and parking was good. Good exercise with lots of up hill challenges to get the heart beating. .
Heena
Wonderful park. Parking was $12, views were worth it. There is also a polo field, a grilling area, and horse riding available.
Huijun Dong
Was a great experience the first time we were there in May. So we went again in June. Not sure whether it is the season or the polo event, there were much less people. And grass grew so tall in some area that it is a bit difficult to walk through. Still a good choice for family &friends gathering.
tru Kendrick
It's still not fully open. No picnic area for example, but it is more lovely and peaceful than it's ever been.
Marquies Smith
A very nice hike. Scenic views, horse stables, and cool trails. 😎 …
AJ Maurice
Great place, close to LA, to get out and enjoy some open spaces. The tour of Will Rogers house is packed with his personal belongings and there is a small visitor center that provides a great opportunity to get to know the personality of this legendary star. The surrounding grounds are scattered with people picnicking, hiking or just taking in the amazing panoramic views of the LA basin. Hiking trails stretch off into the hills and there is a loop trail that starts and finishes near the historic stables. Highly recommended visit either for a couple hours or take your time to bring some food and sports gear and enjoy the wide open grass spaces of the large polo field grounds. There is a charge to park but totally worth it for this hidden gem.
Elena Roche
If you like history and nature you will like this place, Polo field with games on weekends, tours of the ranch house-museum, horse stables and training, large green lawn, hiking trails where dogs are allowed on a leash and Los Angeles city, mountain and ocean views. Parking is $12, everything else is free. There are bathrooms, drinking fountains and picnic tables. Once a year around late October they hold an art show of representational paintings by local artists who are often seen painting here as well.
Kris Brix
Gorgeous state park, take the tour of the house!
Leticia Gomez
Love hiking here whenever i feel the need to get away it's a wonderful place with a wonderful history
Sohm Kapila
Really enjoyed the Polo and look forward to coming back and doing the ranch tour and visitor centre next time. Parking was $12 for the day and $3 per hour when we visited on a Sunday not sure what it is Monday to Friday. Hopefully less!
Shane Thornton
Such a great spot for hikes with views from downtown to Malibu to Catalina. Nice park space, plus there are horses. Pay for parking on site so they can maintain these places and the clean restrooms for generations to come.
Albert Villafain
Easy walk and beautiful view. Follow the white railing for a shortcut up, we discovered it on the way back down and it saved us some time.
Collin Vine
Nice park for small hikes, grassy picnics, and horse or polo watching.
Park on the street and walk .3 miles to avoid paying the $12 weekend parking fee.
Cindy Kratzer
Great hike to Inspiration Point and partway up the Backbone Trail. Busy on Saturday morning but not too crowded.
N Walton
Love this park, beautiful views, easy trails, birds, deers and more deers
Kat Kirkwood
Check out the polo matches on Sat and Sundays. There is a picnic area and you can tour Will Roger's house starting 7/22/21.
Victor H
A lovely walk. Get some free inspiration up at the top! Would recommend. Super dog friendly. Lots of horse poop. Watch out for snakes.
Kathy Tadjali
Have lived in L.A. for over 30 years, but have never been to this hiking trail 😬. What a 💎! Love the history behind this park. Easy trail to hike with the kiddos, great views of the city of Angeles. …
stephane cohen
Great park, Polo spot, several canyons, amazing view..
Terri Bonow
Will Rogers, the Cowboy philosopher and comedian, author, and writer of the 1930's and 1940's, left about 170 acres of beautiful hilly ranch country above Pacific Palisades. Today it's a great place to hike around, picnic but it is busy on the weekends. You can see the museum which is the house that Will lived in with his family, and enjoy being outdoors; they have a riding stable too.
Derek Olivia
Great spot to hike and beautiful sites to see !
Preet Sethi
Nice moderate hike to Inspiration Point, beautiful views. 12 dollar parking. You should do it
Mandy June Turpin
A great place to spend the day with family and friends! Lots of great views and trails!
Monique Grubbs
One of my favorite places to hike in LA, easy incline, beautiful views
Harris
Easy hikes with rewarding views! There is hourly paid parking.
Anna Koper
One of my favorite easy outdoor access areas on the West Side. DO THE TOUR of the house. It is so worth it
Jerome Melgar
Inspirational Point offers a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean, West L.A. and DTLA in the yonder. Hike isn't hard, and not too many people hiking on a Saturday morning.
Lilian Lin
Very beautiful lovely historic park! Lots of things to do here: hiking trails, historic tours, picnicking, polo fields and much more to enjoy with kids, family and pets. Pay for parking to enter the park and be aware that it can get pretty crowded on weekends.
Cindy G
Beautiful day for a quick hike. Lots of people had the same thought!
Donald Kim
Great hike with panoramic views of metropolitan LA. free parking on the street. 12 for the parking lot
Michael Aust
Attending a Street Food Cinema movie night! Highly recommend going to their Yuletide Cinemaland program in December!!!
Astin Hayes
Such a beautiful huge park that I was able to experience during the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic.
M. Ross Klun
Lots of trail options. Several large grass fields for dogs playing, kite flying, Frisbee throwing, etc., or just sitting on blankets, and two picnic areas with a couple of charcoal grills. Bathrooms. Plenty of parking. $3 for one hour or $12 for the whole day.
N Y
Parking is $12. Great for picnics and hiking. Ample parking spots.
Christopher Roman
This park offers a number of hiking and biking trails snaking into the Santa Monica Mountains, where you'll find great views behind you over the coast and city. The trails are the main draw, but you could also catch a game of polo, hang out in a grassy picnic area, or check out the historic mansion. Paid parking weekends. Dog friendly up until Inspiration Point!
Andreas Brynestad
Great hiking with amazing views. You don’t have to walk all that to get to the nice spots. Also nice for kids to play before the trail starts.
Tonia Robinson
A lot of really great hikes whether you want a challenge or something easy
Justin Hartley
Great hiking trails. Be aware of rattle snake. During our hike last week we ran across this lovely one!
Ronald McCormick
Great place to hike and mtb. Took the kids there. I recommend parking in the overflow space if you have camper.
Maura W
Nice easy trails for beginning hikers like ourselves! Some of the trails aren't marked very well, so I recommend researching the path you want to take before you get here. Parking in the lot is $3 an hour (or $11 for the day) using the Passport app.
Enrique “Toredo33”
Horses, polo games. Beautiful place. Nice grass, great for a picnic.
Alexander Westerman
The payoff at the end of this easy hike is 23ft. concrete check dam across the Rustic Canyon Creek. This small dams overflow creates a picturesque waterfall, which is flanked by graffiti, and covered in mossed and foliage. The falls are accessible, either by hiking in by way of the Rustic Canyon Trail from Will Rogers State Park, or by descending to the waterfall from the Sullivan Fire Road on the backbone trail following an unmarked and unmaintained spur trail -- identified by small wooden steps leaving to the left of the fire road, roughly 1/3 of a mile from the trailhead.
Yadhira Talavera
Air was heavy due to the fires but the walk was easy. well kept grounds.
S Clary
A beautiful vista for inner reflection and natural beauty. This hike gives a clear view of both ocean, mountains, and city. The juxtaposition has the potential to be thought provoking and awe-inspiring.
It loses a star because the parking system was finicky. It kept trying to get me to download an app for a simple transaction which felt inappropriate. I am happy they have an app, I don't want it, nor should it be the primary function of their be an app so that they may data mine people enjoying the outdoors. I was finally found able to navigate through their unintuitive layout to purchase my parking pass online, at which point it didn't work. It said the park was closed at 5pm even though it closed at 7pm. I then hiked with the stress of getting a parking ticket.
I am communicating these grievance so that they can tighten up their online system which is lacking.
Michael Lee
Good place for a nice hike or picnic. Becareful of sitting on the polo field, lots of prickly spiny grass so if you want to picnic, the actual park across from the field is best. $12 for a normal car parking and street parking is limited due to permit street parking only.
Daniel Quick
Beautiful historical park.
yoga Dias
Beautiful hiking trails, horse ride packages available
fernando babilonia
It was a great park with great views. Had the ability to have a horse ride on the trails and it was peaceful and a perfect place to relax and take in the views of both the city and the ocean. Parking was available think it was 3 an hour, and they have places for horses ( the horses I rode we're owned by private individual for the ride I had planned out). Pleasant experience, can totally see this as a great hiking spot and a place to bring the pups
James Breech
Great place for a picnic. There are two very large grass areas to lounge on or play games. There are lots of families with young kids. Great spot for a hike as well. It can get a little busy on the weekends but there's so much room that it doesn't matter all that much. Sometimes on the weekends you can watch a polo match too.
Deborah Kim
My friend and I recently did a 14 mile roundtrip hike to Temescal Peak - it was a long but good hike. I love that Will Rogers has shorter hikes like Inspiration Point as well as longer ones. There also is a bathroom there, and parking too. I don’t remember how much it is for a day but I got the annual pass and thought it was worth it! You can purchase it at the entrance of the park.
Overall, I would definitely recommend!
Vanessa Corrales
There is an easy hiking trail and lot of space and different side trails too. I was trying to find a place that wasn't so crowded with people. I went on a Saturday and there was people, but it wasn't crowded and there's lots of room where you can definitely have 6ft distance between each other if you happen to cross paths on the trail. Plus, you get to see people riding horses.
Jeffrey Clark
Great place for a hike and escape in the center of the city
Jared Hammer
Amazing short little hike with a great view, or you can keep going for a longer hike too. The first portions are puppy friendly, so a great place to bring your four legged friends. Lots of squirrels, lots of lizards, we even saw some bunnies. Good place to get up out of the smog.
Carli A
Very beautiful park. Wheelchair access for Street Food Cinema was terrible.
Scott Goldner
My wife and I needed to get out of the house and wanted to go somewhere that we can walk with our dog, but social distance from others. Not only was it a beautiful warm day, but there were a limited about of people there. We felt very safe. The restrooms were clean and we found a spot on top of the hill where nobody goes and had a quick picnic.
Parking is either $6.00 for 2 hours or $12.00 if I recall for a full day. I could be mistaken for the all day parking. Most of the areas are roped off to prevent social gatherings including all the picnic tables are roped off and are turned upside down.
The Polo field is roped off and closed, but it does stop some from going through the blocked areas to sit on the benches to relax.
We went on a weekday, so I do not know what the weekend is like.
We have been coming here since our son was little and even had his 8th Birthday party here.
This place will bring you fond memories for years to come and hopefully they will reopen Will Rogers home so you can take the free tour once again.
Diana Katz
Great hike for families and beginners. You can do horse backriding, use bikes on the trail and have a nice picnic in the designated area. They also have a cute mini museum :) and if you ever need help the rangers are super nice.
During covid19 only The trail is open and you can pay using an app or your phone (no contact)
Matthew Jordan
Great for families. Walk up the hill to see some horses!
jan d
Wow - we loved it for so many reasons! Friendly staff, a very interesting tour of the historical grounds (thanks Tom), a variety of hiking trails for every level of hiker, and gorgeous views of California (coastline, city, & mountains). You could make a quick stop or spend an entire day enjoying this little bit of paradise!
The Park Rangers are really superior and you can tell they love sharing the history of this special state park.
Tip: It's a great place for visitors looking for something to do before flying out of LAX.
Bob Adjemian
Beautiful home of will Rogers worth visiting, plus great trails for runners who desire long trails to enjoy.
Francisco Hernandez
Easy hike overall and nice views.
Rachel Willman
Beautiful views, pretty easy trails. Some parts aren't shaded, bring water.
Downloading and setting up the Passport app ahead of time can save some headache on paying for parking with the machines at the trailhead.
Edith D
Just about 20 minutes from the Venice Pier this park is a peaceful gym with spectacular views of LA. There's a pretty easy 2 mile hike that you can take dogs on leash along to Point. Interesting vegetation, nice paths, and a gorgeous long lane of amazing eucalyptus trees. Very friendly Park Rangers to help guide us to parking and answer questions on a busy day. Definitely worth $12 to get into this place and have a lovely time. Also saw no litter, Hallelujah!i Please do not litter and consider picking up trash elsewhere to make the world a more beautiful place!🌎
Kirsten Mitchell
One of my favorite parks. Lots of trails for hiking—favorite is the Backbone Trail which takes you straight to Temecula and Topanga State Park. Great viewpoint trail. On the weekends, it can get busy but never as bad as some other trails (Runyon, etc).
There is a polo field on the grounds and they’ll have matches every so often. It’s free to check out for $12-18 for day parking in the lot, it changes depending on the event and time of year.

Great hiking. Excellent views of the Pacific from the top. The home of Will Rogers is here, and docent tours are enjoyable. Lots of people with kids, soccer games, polo matches, picnicking, and horseback riding instruction at this state park. Be prepared to pay for parking. Parking is $12. You can buy an annual pass. Discounts for visitors that are 63+. State park rangers on site.
Marilyn Crane
A fun place to visit once for the tour of Will Rogers mansion and estate. The inside of his home is very unique. He has two different style homes attached; one rustic and one traditional. The grounds are beautiful.
Marilyn Coronado
Bathrooms are clean and their water is delicious and pure! Love how many different trails there are and how it's not crowded. Thank you to all park rangers and all staff who help to keep it safe and clean and beautiful for all to enjoy!
이아우구스띠노
Nice trail with excellent view of ocean every family member can enjoy.
Robbie Connie
Always enjoy a light hike here. And the polo matches are super cool during the season. Finally, there is great Ultimate Frisbee played here on Saturdays. Only problem is limited parking.
Susan Walcott
Absolutely love this place! Some great hiking trails including the Backbone trail that goes through the park to the Pacific. Stunning views of Malibu on that trail btw. The stables are beautiful and you can take riding lessons there!! The polo fields are one of LAs last remaining public fields with matches most Saturdays free and open to public. The green lawn is a lovely place to hang out to chop for a bit. Great bike riding and running as well as hiking or even just staying by house and museum and hanging out something for everyone and right if of heart of Hollywood. The museum is very informative. The house is a must see. Go on the hour and take that free tour! No reservations necessary! The rangers and bullies are so informed and bring to life the Hollywood icon Will Rogers. Be sure to catch the movie in the museum so you can see for yourself Will's wicked excellent roping skills!
Paige Lahaise
Gorgeous view. Great trails. Dog friendly.
Andy Schlei
The park is in great condition. The tour of the house was good -- our docent was a real character who really knows the history very well. Parking was not a problem even though we did not arrive until 11:30. I would not count on being so lucky in the summer.
Osprey Flyer
Great and convenient place to get outside in Santa Monica Mountains. Hike up to Inspiration Point, fantastic views of LA.
G. Christensen
Very nice trails. Gorgeous views of the city and the ocean.
Eric Friedman
The hike up to inspiration point is easy and worth it. Can do the full loop in under a hour with beautiful views from downtown to the ocean.
Jeff McLean
Beautiful elevations on trails

Make a plan to do a tour of the Will Roger's House/Visitor Center (aside from all the awesome stuff there)
Was a really great experience. Bill Ham was our guide, they were friendly and fun. You will need to check the schedule, it does say the day ends at 4 on weekends, but they actually do have a tour at 4pm, the list was full when I arrived and they squeezed me in bc I was '1'. The tour is a little less than an hour. The visitor's center is ideally visited in an hour, maybe a bit less, there is a 10 minute video you should time so you can see it before the tour. (for now, you will need COVID masks indoors)
Will Rogers was a really interesting person. He didn't want to live off what his parents gave him and he perfected his roping (unbelievable skill seen on film.) As a youngster he went to South Africa and saw his first rodeo show by a Texan, which inspired him to be a showman - he became a movie actor... and eventually a national spokesperson who influenced Government to take care of the jobless. His political activism, style and impact is something important that we can all learn from today.
You will learn all this on the tour.
Oh, behind the house is Wilshire Boulevard. Make sure to ask your guide if it isn't pointed out!
Thanks Foundation and Betty =Rogers for setting up this as public service.
Bruce Long
One of the most beautiful hikes in LA on a clear day. Annoying the ban sitting on the grass, banned picnics. Hoping this passes soon. Only park I've been to w this over the top prohibition.
tίᴍ ᴇሃሃ
A nice regional park to go hiking and see some nice views. There are seperate trails, not hard but will get you winded. Just wear some tennis shoes to make the walk/hike easier. If you take the trail to the far right of the parking lot (across from the polo field), you will walk past the horses which is always really cool.
Jason Buhle
Nice park with good hiking trails. Great views of the ocean if you go up to inspiration point. Parking is expensive but worth it on a busy weekend.
Vicky Ingram
GORGEOUS historic park. Parking costs 12 or 15 dollars (can't remember). Trails for hikers, bikers, and horse back riders. Moderate hike. Good for beginners. Tours given of Rogers' home at the top of every hour between approximately 10 am and 2 pm. I had to ask the staff, so that won't be posted anywhere. The hours are and that's why I said approximately bc I don't remember exact and because they vary. Sign just says open between whichever hours. Doesn't say that the tours have to be guided.
Chunila Nornang
There are scheduled tours of Will Roger's ranch house within the park. See photos of the kitchen sink and tiled countertops.
Suho Pak
Too easy of a hike. I went there on a Monday and only cool hippies were there. I got to talk to them lotz about the world and stuff but they didn't know how to get to Murphy Ranch since the trail was closed off which would have made it a loop. Inspiration point wasn't very inspiring since it only took a brisk walk to get there. Was looking for a wisdom tree but realized I was at the wrong park. Instead I got some wisdom from some cool hippies which was inspiring enough. Tried to make the hike more adventurous but once you reach the bridge it leads to a backbone trail that never ends. Maybe you could call it a bridge to nowhere lol. Parking was free since it was a weekday, on the residential streets which you are NOT allowed to park on on weekends. The hike was too short and the loop is only about a mile long which only inspired me to go to a gas station.
James Pichon
It takes some work to get there, but it's a beautiful park to visit. Parking is $12 for the day. They do take cards except for American Express. Hike the Inspiration loop for a beautiful day hike or tackle the backbone trail if you're feeling a little more adventurous!
Ruby Westkaemper
My friends and I went to this park for the beautiful views and hiking. But we also ran into an unexpected surprise. There are free tours of Will Rodger’s estate that are informative and entertaining! It’s amazing that they were able to maintain his home and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend attending a tour if you are there.
Maribel R Adams
Beautiful view, hiking here is great.
Scott Kramer
Went during the federal shutdown so there were no personnel on duty. No charge for parking, but no one to protect the environment. I was happy to find no fire damage and the trails are still on decent shape. It wasn't crowded at all, so it was a nice quiet experience.
Talia Shandler
We did a hike, brought a picnic and took a tour of the historic home. It was an ideal day!!!! Everyone tourist and native angelino should do this. Keep in mind it is $12 to park but well worth it and goes towards maintaining the park.
Camelia Cracana
Nice views at the top of the trail, moderate difficulty - if you are like me and don't regularly hike. You will need sunscreen protection, as Santa Monica mountains are quite bare of vegetation.
Timi O
Beautiful park. Excellent hiking trails. Huge lawn which is fun to picnic on. Watch polo on some Sundays. Drawback is the price of parking. And no where nearby to park for free. Maybe get someone to drop you off?
Sebastian Petersen
Great place to bring friends and family, or just relax alone. Helpful and kind staff, an all round good spirit to the place.
There's polo you can watch for free on some weekends, and you can visit the historic buildings on site.
There's also hiking, and ample picknick tables.
Just visited to help repaint the stables, volunteering was organized through both Park Champions, and an independent foundation that works to restore the stables. I highly recommend donating some time to help make our parks be a better experience for everyone. I've been with Park Champions for a while now, the atmosphere is fun, the work is fuffling, the people are supportive and good company, and the food is good.
Hope to see you all out there!
Vic Hanson
An interesting look into the life of Will Rogers at the museum here. The park is also the start of the Backbone Trail, which is open to hikers, horses, and mtn. bikes. The trail along the creek to Rustic Canyon is not well maintained but it is a delightful hike, even in summer it is usually cool and shaded.
D Z
Great place to take the kids and dogs for a hike. A beautiful view of LA and the pacific.
Raul Co
Great park that is usually not to crowded. Great for hiking or going horse back riding. Occasionally, you can catch a polo match here. Don't forget to visit Will Roger's house to get some of the history behind the park. Fresh ocean breezes can make this a great spot on a hot day.
Art ist
Great state park for a quick easy hike with incredible ocean views. If you are local and plan to go back often on weekends I suggest getting the yearly park pass. Friendly staff. Free EV charging.
Buddy Johnson
This is a great place for an easy/moderate hike that lasts about 45 mins with a bit of incline and decline. I bought a park pass that pays off after 6 or 7 visits and supports the state park program. You can buy it online. There are tours of the home every hour or so which is a nice side activity to do.
R Luc
They have some hiking trails to do. The house was pretty neat and the docent was very proficient if you decide to do the tour. You cannot take photos inside of the house. You have to pay to park.
Derek Rinchiuso
Great place to hike around.
Catherine A. Montgomery
HIDDEN GEM in the heart of Pacific Palisades. The park is dedicated to the memory of American humorist Will Rogers, who rose to world fame as a columnist, "cowboy philosopher", aviation enthusiast, philanthropist, radio personality, and movie star. In 1920s, he purchased land in Santa Monica, where he developed a ranch. Will Rogers eventually owned about 359 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, now known as Pacific Palisades.
It is a relaxing, open area with fabulous views of Pacific Ocean, horse stables and riding, lush green lawns, and polo field used for various sporting events. Pack a picnic basket and sit on the lawn facing horse stables, take riding lessons or enjoy a nice trail ride. There are several moderate 2 mile hikes, including Inspiration Point and Rivas Canyon Trail. Hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians may enjoy a more vigorous 70 mile trial from Backbone Trail, from Santa Monica Mountains all way to Point Magu (maps at visitor center).
The ranch became the place where Rogers relaxed with family and friends, while pursuing his favorite pastimes of riding and roping. There are some very interesting and funny stories about his life here told by the tour guides. The 45-minute tour of his residence is free, conducted at top of every hour Thursday and Friday 11-3 and Saturday and Sunday 10-4. You can get more information at their website, and there is a brochure you can get in visitor center.
At the time of his death in a plane crash in 1935, his ranch consisted of a 31-room ranch house with neighboring guest houses, a stable, corrals, riding ring, roping arena, polo field, golf course, and riding trails. His widow, Betty, donated the ranch to California State Parks in 1944 and it became a state historic park.
A very relaxing laid back day here. Perfect place to just take in the beauty of the area. Open daily from 8am to sunset. Parking is $12 for day, but disabled and elderly visitors, with CA State Park Pass pay less.
For the Instagram Influencers or other photo junkies: There is NO PHOTOGRAPHY of any kind inside the Museum, but there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the park. This is strictly enforced, so don't try to be clever or push boundaries. Rules are for a reason - soak it all in and enjoy!
Shelby
This park is awesome for picnics and hiking. Plus there is a stable if you're into horseback riding. Even if you're just into horses, you can come on the weekends during the summer and watch Polo.
Karla Zamora
A very gorgeous well keeped park. You can practice any sport on their fields, hike the trails or go horseback ridding like we did. There are picnic areans and you can also ask for a tour of the Will Rogers house while watching deers wonder by.
Brad Porter
Nice place. Good hiking, and good vistas. Be careful on the grass around the polo fields... It is literally crawling with insects. Many of my party got chigger bites that have lasted weeks!
Maxim Fit
Our eternal gratitude to the Family of Will Rogers who donated this phenomenal land to educate us on the life of Will Rogers. Rogers was at the vanguard of U.S. political satire.
Criss Zav
One of my favorite places to disconnect from all in tge city.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Awesome place for a quick hike. The view is outstanding, one of the best in Los Angeles. Not steep or rocky, just about anyone can hike it....

A must trip at least once in your jifetime.
A bucket list item for sure.
Great hiking trails, views of the city.
Can rent horses for trail ride.
Take 405 to sunset dr west for 4. Miles.
Or be adventurous , come through Topanga canyon to Malibu, splash in the pacific, then drive uphill on sunset to the polo field at will rogers historic ranch. Everything is just the way it was in 1935. Time travel..you will remember this trip.! $parking by the hour, or all. Day for $12. Honor system.

Loved the trail to Inspiration Point. Thank goodness this gem of land was given to the parks by the family all those years ago. It gives you a taste of what California looked like in the early part of the 20th century.
The house tour was fantastic. Our guide, Mr. Hamm, is obviously passionate about his job. He told us anecdotes and fun facts about WR and his family. A really lovely way to spend an afternoon.
credenza
This was amazing, easy parking right on the trail
Pat Carey
A very nice public enclave in the hills near Brentwood. Pay parking by the hour or day. Enjoyed the free tour of ranch house, featuring Charlie Russell art, and the Will Rogers story. Walking and horse trails though we didn't venture far on them. Small gift store on site.
Taz H
Nice park. Minimal free parking. So come early or expect to pay.
Valerie Easley
Just amazing to see the grounds. Beautiful!
Makes you imagine how the wonderful the parties that were held there yesteryear, were
Patrick Comey
This is a beautiful park. Check the hours for the museum visit (weekends right now).
Kate Senehi
We enjoyed hiking here. The paths were well maintained. Could have been better marked. Rangers on horseback patrol the park. Nice Oasis within the city.
Armando Martinez
Nice trails and very nice place
John Chamichyan
Grateful service and location
Mariah Cherry
Inspiration trail leads to the top of the mountain which gives you a panoramic view of Hollywood, downtown LA, and Malibu. Trails range in difficulty. Can't bring dogs on some higher up trails because they're very narrow
Lucia
Beautiful place for a scenic hike and horse riding!
Jorge R.
Parking is state park prices. Other than that , street parking if you can find it. Deer run around so be alert. Small park with amenities for the hobbies. Hobbies that are horseback, soccer field and hiking. Restrooms are good and clean.
jenny williams
Beautiful park. Great hiking.
Robert Rafii, Esq.
Scenic and quite beautiful. Can take tours of actor Will Roger's former home. Also offers horseback riding and several very nice hiking trails. There are also picnic areas to play sports and eat with friends and family.
sandy pedersen
Wonderful history and land that shows the legacy of an American stage and film actor. Lots of hiking trails around the property.
Jason Lin
Picture perfect hikes and a great 360 degree outlook of the coastline from the top of the park. There are various routes you and trek. Bonus tip: Will Rogers Park is home to LA's only remaining polo field.
Pat Brown
The most surprising and delight park I’ve visited. Great trails, wonderful history, helpful staff ( especially Ken!)
Jose Trevino
Fun and educational, it's a great space to spend an hour or a day. Bring the kids and bring the wife; but leave the mother-in-law in the car.
Todd Glodek
This is without question the best hiking area in the Loa Angeles area. If you plan it well, you can see a spectacular sunset behind the mountains and ocean. On Sundays during the summer you can often catch polo matches. The restrooms are uncommony clean (almost fancy) compayer to what you would normLly expect.
On the flip side, there are many garder and king snakes on the lower flat parts of the wilderness areas. There are also numerous. "Warning:-Mountain Lion" signs as you go further up the trails.
Jc Olivera
Great park to spend the afternoon!
- Yesterday was my first time at the Will Rogers State Historic Park, It was my first time there for a Polo event, so I didn't have to drive, We all parked in a parking structure nearby and We were shuttle to the park, it's right in the center of Palisades. Cellphone signal is poor tho.
Mike Doose
One of my favorite LA hikes that is easy and quick to get to (without having to go far up PCH). Some of the most beautiful views of the ocean and some incredible trees.
Andrew Blackman
It's a great spot to hike or go mountain biking. I normally go here and fill up on water before climbing up the dirt single track. There is a small museum that talks about the history of the ranch.
Tyler McAndrew
Pretty nice hike but parking is 3 dollars an hour :/
Christina Canini
Moderately strenuous sections, great views, part of the trail goes through a pretty shaded eucalyptus Grove, giant old polo field that people can picnic and play on
Barbara L
Go for the beautiful setting and easy hike to Inspiration Point, but definitely plan on visiting Rogers's ranch house and learn a lot from an hour-long, ranger-led talk and tour. You'll learn a lot about this amazing man..
Carm BW
Don't let the traffic on Sunset discourage you from getting up to Will Rogers, every minute on the road is worth it. Either picnic in the grassy area and stare at horses feeding. Or lace up your shoes and take walk up the trail. Take time to overlook Brentwood and the 405. Watch out for mountain bikers coming down the main trail.
Diego Brito
Beautiful. A little crowded with dawdling tourists but worth it.

4.3 miles, 2.5 hours
Scott Willis
Beautiful park in the middle of an urban area. We enjoyed the trails and Inspiration Point. 30-40 walk. Great views from downtown LA to Marina del Rey.

Dog friendly park. Clean bathrooms. Great place to bring your family to spend a lazy afternoon. Trails lead to beautiful views over Santa Monica Beach.
Pascal Nespeca
Nice place to hike, trail run or mountain bike and it connects to the backbone trail in the Santa Monica mountains. However, parking is scarce unless you pay or have a state park pass.
Rubi Rojo
Amazing place to go hiking and depending where you enter you can chill in a open field or enjoy a good hike
Gabriel Pacana
Great hiking area with amazing views! I recommend it for anyone in LA.

Be sure to check out the museum when it opens. Beware of rattlesnakes. Not much shade on the trails which makes the summer heat even more brutal.
Vanessa marie Soto
The state parks rangers are chill back there I work for CEO fire crow that is contracted throw state parks we have maded an amazing change to that park alone ☺️ we good feed baby always from random people that our there at the park y we are working even from the rangers them self

P Sanchez
$3 per hour parking. Popular, family-friendly hike so it does get crowded even early in the morning.
Tyler Ann Sands aka Sister Gramps
Great, but you do have to pay for parking even if your disabled. Nice trails, restrooms, horseback riding area and nice big grassy areas
Osvaldo Guzman
Great place to go for a local hike in LA. We like going on Saturday mornings without having to drive too far out of town. The loop is on-leash dog friendly.

Best park ever and great place to be active. Has a trail up to the view of West L.A. Parking is hard stop; takes a long time to get because of traffic on Sunday. But still great park :-) .
Jaydev Sharma
Went hiking on the trail. Lovely view. Its a short hike but is fun. You can do cycling and horses riding in this trail too.
Nalani Santiago
Wow! This tour was such a delightful surprise. I didn't know more than the real basics about Will Rogers, so it was really nice to understand why he was lauded as an important figure, as much as he was. Definitely take the time to go on the docent-lead tour of the house. Our Translator (tour guide), Calista, was phenomenal...a wealth of information, with an upbeat demeanor of a person who LOVES what they do. I also really appreciated the masterful way she dealt with the one obnoxious "know-it-all" in the group, who kept trying to challenge her knowledge. She was super professional, kind, respectful, and confident in herself. Shut the "bro" dude down without humiliating him - seriously impressive!
Julia Ryan
Best hikes you'll get in LA. WRST has everything you need: safety, calm, ocean views, deers and a huge lawn area with a restroom to wind down before you hit the road. Highly recommended for families.
Desi Ninja
Great little park in the middle of nowhere. It had a polo field with regular marches on Friday/sat(I think) and great little spot to enjoy some of the beauty SoCal has to offer.

First time hiking here. Arrived just before 10, got a parking spot. Even though it was cloudy still can see the water and down to DTLA.

Great short hike for all levels. Fascinating views all around. Park at the bottom of the hill before the park if you need more of a hike!
Barry Waite
Amazing location with great views! Hike around or just sit and relax. Thursday through Sunday, there are tours of the house, which is well worth the visit all by itself.
Jacob Eggers
Great place to go for a short hike, or a long one as it also connects to the rest of the Santa Monica trails. Also, they have polo every weekend during the summer.
Jojopahmaria Nsoroma
This is a state treasure from a Cherokee man born 29 years after the conclusion of forced migration called The Trail of Tears. It's a beautiful piece of property, parking $12 max, but the tour of his house is free.
Virginia Blakesley
What a stellar guy! I hadn't known of him before this visit. We stopped looking for a short hike and overlook during a LAX layover -eorth it!! The museum does a great job offering tribute to Will Rogers.

Great for a view of Los Angeles & Santa Monica from the top
Angela Russo
fun polo event.. Road getting there with large horse trailer is a little difficult.. All in all fun place. I hope to go back.
Mario Obejas
Nice place to get informed about Will Rogers. If you don't care about that, just enjoy the grounds, the horses and deer, and the tranquility. On a clear winter day you can see all the way down the coast to the Palos Verdes peninsula. You won't believe you are in LA.
Claire Whigham
Great easy hike for kids. Huge lawn is perfect for picnicking with sand pits for the kids to play in.
Binu C
We did horse back riding of the trail , awesome views of the ocean and the big homes from above. Parking fee is $12.
Gordon Pattison
Beautiful setting. Great hiking. Fun to watch the polo being played. Be sure to take the tour of home of this iconic American.

Great place to visit , just Amazing in what was built in the 20's
Alona Lubovnaya
Great for families and dogs.
You can park about 5 mins before the part on the road if there is room to avoid the parking fee.

michael walsh
Beautiful place. Little museum and a walking tour of the estate are open sometimes. Its 10 dollars to park here so I would walk in from the street. Its a pretty easy walk.
Josh Chavez
Great ride to the top... rugged single track after the first mile.. great for hiking or mountain bike riding intermediate.
Jillian Hammer
Short hike, only downside is if you want to go further no dogs allowed. Trails are pretty messy but stick to the service roads and you're golden
Tony Driggers
Sans the main "landscaped" areas, I personally think it has the rugged beauty of, say, the Sacramento Mts. (though not nearly as high in elevation) in/around Cloudcroft NM (9000" & surrounding mts. 10K-12K. Will Rogers is a beautiful park & a great place to have a romantic picnic. Only "con" (even mentioned below by other reviewers) is the overpriced parking but its close proximity to the Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica &, further west, the "inexpensive" Malibu area (😀) contribute to that and, on the bright side, does keep some of the "rift raft" (like U might find - no offense - @, say, Griffith Park e.g.) out or at least discourages such so I suppose it's a trade off for special occasions.
Note: It's not the "price," per se - of course I can afford it - but moreso the 'principal' of it. Would like to frequent more often IF I had a celebrity's income. 😂
Raymond G
An amazing historical park in the heart of Los Angeles built in about 1924 on about 600 acres. escorted tours are available.

The park is great but the free street parking is now sadly almost non-existent. Makes it inaccessible to anyone without an extra $10. Welcome to the I-got-mine-screw-everybody-else America.
