Reviews of Malibu Creek State Park

Had a really fun day there. I took my husband so he could go see the M.A.S.H. set. The weather was very nice. But I suggest you read more about it on the website before you go. I didn't realize it was going to be hiking. We were comfortable stuff it was only about 5 miles round trip, but my husband would like to have different things with him when we went. I enjoyed just walking the area and seeing all the different rocks and acorn trees and the riverbed. There's the Reagan Ranch you can see up there also the Lost cabin and the century Dam. Because it used to be owned by Fox Century 21. They also filmed Planet of the Apes in the seventies in that area.

Nice park with some shade and not crowded. Parking is $12 for the whole day. Trail are mostly flat with little ups or down. Interesting rocky hills. There is some water in the main creek and reservoir. But fairly dry and brown in the summer. Some mountain bikers but most trails are nice and wide. Interesting Mash and Planet of the Apes TV series sites.

It's breathtaking! Super easy hike and relaxing. Got there early so parking was plenty, but by time we were done hiking, the parking lot was completely full, so definitely recommend going early! A plus, Malibu Riders do a horseback riding trail here!

Had so much fun camping here. The restrooms were stocked and pretty clean as well as the shower stalls.
Although there was a lot of "meat bees" at the campground we didn't get stung by them. And we also never used insect repellent. We were there 4 days and came home without any bug bites.
There's a swimming hole walking distance from the camp. And Malibu beach was a short drive away. And we hiked a 2.5 mile trail one way. We found so many things on our hike. It was an amazing trip.

The camping spots are small. I would say site 53 is the biggest one here. The bathrooms and showers are kept very clean. The hiking trails are really good. Your 10 minutes from town if you need supplies . So far all the park staff have been very friendly. It's a perfect time of year to be here. Thanks to all our rain this season everything is green. Great place for a weekend or day trip.

It's like a playground for those who love nature!
The park ranger recommended, "Bulldog Road" if I was looking for a workout. It was a bit intense but definitely worth the work out! 👍 If by some chance you still have leftover energy, feel free to go up CASTRO road. You'll gain elevation and an opportunity to some DIVINE views! 🌄💯
Just be careful and take enough water to stay hydrated (@ least 32oz per individual)!! God Bless💫

Great place to go for a hike. Quiet after you hike in a little more than a 1/2 mile or so and start up into the hills. Look for the place that they films planet of the apes, good signage telling you a little about it. Also, continue to go in further, about 2.3 miles from the parking lot, and you will come to the set of M.A.S.H. You should come away with lots of great memories.

Awesome park. Plenty of trails. We came here to hike out to the M.A.S.H. filming site and after a couple of miles of easy hiking we've reached our destination. The site provides numerous info boards containing picture comparisons of now and when filming was going on. A wildfire burned through the area a few years back but the ambulance and signpost were replaced since. Highly recommended 👌

First time here. Camping ground are nice, with 4 restrooms and 3 showers (during the day, you don't need to pay for hot water just open up the hot water and hot water will come 🤫) there is a deer that is a little bit to human friendly (protect your groin area), it will let you touch and caress. actively looking for food. EV friendly, the Rangers have a charging area for their EVs and Hybrids. you can use the charging station if they are not using it to charge. if you go for a hike and want to be adventurous ask a Ranger and he'll tell you the way. 4 out of 5 Rangers that I met are cool. happy camping! 🏕️

Malibu Creek State Park is one of 279 California State Parks. It was opened to the public in 1976. It's situated in Calabasas, Los Angeles County. The park is well known as a filming location for more than 100 movies, including such classics as M*A*S*H and Planet of the Apes. Hikers, bicyclists, horse-riders and campers enjoy exploring numerous nature trails in all seasons. The park is also very popular with naturalists and birdwatchers like myself. In more than 10 years that I've been visiting this place, I have found 122 different species of birds. During my latest visit on November 26, I spotted 34 different avian species. The gates of the park are open from 8 AM to 10 PM. All day parking costs $12. Dogs are allowed on paved road and in campground but not allowed on trails. Malibu Creek State Park has its own website, which provides the latest updates about the status of the trails, history of the park and some other useful information. Enjoy the park.
