Reviews of Outpost Ice Arenas
We love coming to the Ice Wolves games! This is a cool ice skating rink too. You can buy sodas, food, and snacks. No alcoholic beverages are sold. There’s a pro shop to buy things and it’s very family friendly! Bring the kids and have fun. 🏒 🥅 …
So much fun!! Family skate times found online. NM Ice Wolves are a blast to watch play hockey 🏒. High energy entertainment! Cafe is fast and delicious. Gift shop has a variety of skate and hockey items. …
Great family friendly activity, great for teens, date night and athletic sports. Ice hockey leagues & figure skating classes/competitions are offered at this location. Truly a winter oasis in the desert sand heat!
This is heaven for every ice hockey fans not only here in Albuquerque New Mexico but also from the other states closer to us.
Went to an ice wolves game. It was so much fun. I would recommend everyone going at least once to experience it. You will not regret it.
Great game tonight! Ice wolves won in triple sudden death. Fun place to enjoy yourself at. Associates are courteous and easy to talk too. Prices are very reasonable.
Booked a private curling intro lesson through Outpost and the Roadrunner Curling Club. Although it was spendy, we all had a great time and the three club members we met were great teachers, and split us up into teams to play an even sided game. For a two hour ice rental, the five of us got to learn the basics and play three ends. After our experience, all five of us want to go curling again!
We absolutely had a blast! Even my 3 year old daughter was able to get into ice skating! We can't wait to go again! So reasonably priced and the staff is friendly and warm. I am very happy to have gotten a family of 5 in for less than $45, skate rental included (oh, and the practice bars!). We will definitely be back!
The rink itself is good, the skates is great. The staff at the front especially the teenagers or young adults has no ideas what they doing. Some even put a wrong information and when I came back another day, the other staff couldn’t find my information.
The other encounter I had is with a staff “Karen” who think that her words is all matter and even suggested to who we should go complain or talked to. Not only she rude, she has no sense of apologizing to what she did which is taking the ice hockey stick away without telling the owner. When I came back after warming up, the stick is gone. Just imagined how I felt thinking somebody might stole the stick.
The gentleman at the ice rink during ice skate class is great. The adults ice skate class instructor is nice.
These guys have such a nice rink area not to mention the beautiful view you get when you step through the doors n go outside to thier balcony where it overlooks a good portion of the city
A one of a kind rink- 2 full ice rinks connected by 2 hallway like curling areas.Old school video games including some choice pinball games- free refills on hot chocolate and coffee. The whole place could use a good power washing and a tic tac.About $10 a person- me and my kids had a great time.
This place is great! Staff was nice. Sad part is it's a 45min drive for me to go, so i can't go everyday. Lol. Not expensive. $13plus tax for 2hrs and included skate rental. Their skates look great! Not old and withered.
First time coming and very much enjoyed it! Had some great seats and the people were super hype! Reminded me on a United Game! Only thing of course was no alcohol drinks. But still had a great time! Would definitely go again! Make sure you come with some good layers on and maybe a blanket for the seat.
Me and my family had a blast. The owner is very nice! 👍 …
Great rinks, looked their snack bar, beautiful views of the sunset.
The people are nice and we had a great experience 😊😎⛸️ …
Niece loves this ice rink and she is thrilled to have it open for practice & coaching. It was closed for six months & she was miserable. She is thrilled to be out on the ice again. Other skaters looked happy and good on the ice, too.
The place is clean, with tables disinfected, & signs on each disinfected table saying so. Also, they have hand disinfectant on each table. The pro shop was closed, but looked nice. The bathrooms were also clean and I loved the mirror sign: “Objects in mirror are prettier than they appear in spite of what society makes you think!”
I am a goalie that plays semi-regularly. After the renovations were completed The Outpost is beautiful! I skated around when I was younger but the quality of ice is so much better now and the staff are always professional and friendly. The gentleman Lin is a person I like to praise. He is experienced and personable. I would recommend this place to anyone who lives in Albuquerque and to tourists to visit. The proshop has improved on variety of products as well!
Fantastic facility! The open skating area is actually two full sized rinks linked together in a loop. It's HUGE! There is plenty room for more experienced skaters to go around those who are trying to get their bearings clinging to the wall (me lol). They also have skating aids available to use to help with learning.
The facilities are very clean, and they have a cafe/snack bar on site as well as vending machines.
It's a great place to take the family and escape the heat!
Very nice ice arenas. Had a blast skating
Very nice. I take skating lessons here and the rink is spacious, the ice is generally smooth, although after hockey skates have abused the ice it's bumpy. The lessons are not expensive, the coaches are helpful, and during their public skate sessions it's generally not too crowded. I do not use the rental skates but from what I can tell they don't look uncomfortable. Could use some renovations but overall pretty nice.
Great rink!!
Staff is professional and kind.
There is plenty of public skating times aviable, and a variety of classes for all ages .
A fun and exciting game! GREAT place for a corporate event! Our Medic Buddy Mobile Health group held a family night for our work team in the enclosed Suite that overlooks the rink and the hospitality was great! The game was exciting, with a packed arena and comfortable atmosphere. Alyssa and the Ice Wolves staff did a wonderful job of making sure that all 35 of us we well taken care of! What a great asset to our Albuquerque community! Thank you Outpost Arena and NM Ice Wolves!
Beautiful place. Not too busy and big rinks. Had lots of fun. :)
This review is through the eyes of (general admissions) and in no way reflects the coaches and staff who teach there.
Staff was nice when I went. The ice was nice when I was there, a little smoother would have been preferable. The loop they have is fun, and the skates I rented were in good shape. The inside is a little smelly, but the carpet and furniture inside are beat up and old so that could be part of the reason for being a little smelly. If the ice was a little smoother and the inside was nicer I would agree with the price. Overall I did enjoy my time there and I would go back again with my family. They should clean it up a little and update a few things and I would go more often, or don't and just lower the price some and I would still go more often. If you are looking for something to do with the family, this place worked for us.
Went with the family, they had skates small enough for my 4 year old and a skate bar. It's been a decade since I last visited and a first time for my husband. We enjoyed it and staff was very friendly. We grabbed some snacks and hot cocoa, with plenty of time on the ice. We'll be coming back more often. It is a little dated, don't expect a brand spanking new rink, but it was perfect for a family day out, and it wasn't as strict as it was a decade ago, so while chaotic, it was still a lot of fun and left some wiggle room for the kid to feel like she could try out some moves.
Very fun and good to get away from the summer heat. For value I would have rated it a 3 because it's $13.00 a person and if you have a large family and want to go often you will not be able to do that. Also the manager was yelling at some man in the front of the business which did not leave a good impression of him but he was polite to me and my family.
Pros: It's a great place to see a hockey game and visit with friends, Go Wolves! Great last winning game of the season!
Cons: Coffee and Coco are atrocious, do not buy, bring your own.
Good place for skating but not great for hockey games. The concession was literally closing as my daughter was standing there waiting for the fries she ordered although the prices are great. No matter how many times the managers told his very young staff they could not stand in the no standing Zone because it wasn't fair to the paying customers they always seem to be huddling around the area once he would leave. There unfortunately is not enough seating for everyone
It would be great if they had skates that fit me but had to get 1 size bigger then I should so I paid for skating but did not skate not good for my vacation
My daughter plays hockey here on a regular basis. The staff is friendly. They have good food at the concession stand. But, I always feel like it is so dirty in there. Not like clutter, but dirty. Like everything needs to be cleaned from top down, or replaced and updated.
We went for a 2-hour public skate session, which at $13/person ($10 plus $3 to rent skates) is reasonable. (You'd likely spend the same amount of money for similar amount of time bowling, for example.) You can ask for hockey or figure skates, but if your feet are large, you'll only be able to wear hockey skates. Wear high socks, and bring a hat and gloves.
The design of the rinks connected by the CoolLoop is neat, though the connecting ice between the rinks was very choppy when we went. Unfortunately, it appeared that no one at the counter gave any information regarding the direction to skate, so it was very chaotic, with people skating in all directions. This made it difficult for the first-time skaters in my group to feel comfortable. Groups of unsupervised kids (who clearly play hockey) were skating as fast as they could for much of the session, weaving between people, which was obnoxious and unsafe. This is of course, not an Outpost problem, but a parenting/coaching issue.
The bathrooms are very outdated and there was not toilet paper in many of the stalls. The lockers were hard to use and probably half of them did not have the locking mechanism any longer. Bring a quarter or two if you want to use the lockers.
Overall, the skating is fun, but the amenities could use some serious updates. Two hours is more than enough time, and worth the money. You'll be sore the next day if you're not used to it!
The Outpost offers a unique layout that provides for lots of different ice activities all under one roof. Chilly’s ProShop is well stocked with both necessities and fun apparel and gift items. The snack bar has great food too!
I have not yet skated here. I curl in the side tunnel on the ice in shoes. But the place is clean and staff seems friendly.
Update: the new owner is fixing all the ice and the tunnels are much better. The ice doesn't dip to one side so much now!! Thank you!
The skate was fun and the staff was awesome sauce. Highly recommend for date or family fun. Great way to beat the heat. No masks. Have fun for me.
A large ice rink with plenty of room to skate and good music. The figure skates look new and very nice, but the hockey skates look like they purchased them sometime in the 90s. They are best up, but still work for the time being. Hopefully they invest in new ones soon. Other than that it's your average ice rink, so worth going to if you like to skate.
Good fun. Some of the rental skates are falling apart and that causes foot cramps (ouch!!) because you can't get the laces to hold in the right position. Otherwise, clean, ice is good, the loop and having both sides open is really nice. Kids always have a blast.
Had a curling lesson. It was fun, but too many people were in the class to be really productive.
I had a great time, the only thing is I think they needed to renovate their tables. The ice rink I also felt needed a smaller occupancy. Especially when there are so many kids just learning to skate, otherwise nice place.
I really enjoyed this place. I went here with my boy. I am a 6ft 10 blind individual that went ice skating with my boy just for the hell of it. I had not been ice skating since I was myself a boy, and I had my eyesight then. I attempted ice skating, but did not feel confident in doing so for fear of accidentally slamming into somebody. They were people getting around rather fast, and I just did not think it would be a good idea. I ended up going to the arcade area to play video games with my boy. I have a video of me playing a game called Primal Rage. It is the one where dinosaurs are fighting like Mortal Kombat. Him and I were playing until he ran out of quarters. I ended up continuing on playing the computer. I actually Dietz the entire game. I will be posting it on my YouTube channel soon. Perhaps, next time when I go it will be empty. I am 300 pounds, and when I slam into somebody it is like a semi truck slamming into a little hybrid smart car. The gentleman there were very nice seeing as how I did not get to skate, and gave me some passes to go back to try again. I never did get to go. My boy and I lost the tickets. Believe the housekeeper might have accidentally throwing them out. If you have not been, and you would like to try to ice skate you should definitely go. The staff are all really awesome. I wish I could get up there again to try it again sometime soon. Hope you have as much fun as I did
Fun rink. Good food, and great place for a party!
The Outpost is keeping hockey thriving in New Mexico. The new ownership has been an obvious boon, you can see it on the resurfaced ice, new scoreboards, and renovated facilities. An already great place is now even better.
This is an amazing place to visit for some cool fun. We were invited to watch the Admirals play a game of ice hockey. I’ve never been here but gathered a bit of information on it. There are actually two ice ice-skating rinks that are enclose with one being the house of the UNM team. There is also a full ring around that connects the two rinks together. When they’re no games playing you can rent skates and go skating. Anyway we all enjoyed the game, our team won and was floored when I learned no tickets were needed. As we were leaving the entire building was filled by a church group having a get together. Plenty of old school pinball machines, good food at reasonable prices and a really cool place to enjoy a get together. 5 stars for sure.
First time ice skating, my boyfriend brought me here. It was really simple. You pay and ask for your size. They let you exchange if there are problems with the skates or if the sizing is off. They have lockers for your stuff. My legs really hurt for a week and it was not easy "trying" to skate, but it was fun. I do not have any complaints and like other reviewers said it could improve on its looks, but the ice was pretty good for skating as far as I know. I will probably go again.
Very fun.. the skates are pretty worn though
NEWLY UPDATED! For all of you that love to be on the ice, you MUST see what the new management has done with the place. Super friendly staff and a great place to hang out with the family for a birthday party or to watch some hockey. Looking forward to many memories here.
Great facility. Lovely staff. Very enjoyable to skate here.
If you wear a size 14, they have only hockey skates to rent...but at least you can skate.
They have some roof leaks, so if you go when there is rain or snow there will be some mini volcanos on the ice surface to be avoided.
They seriously need to replace the mid-size skates that get the most use. I took a date there, and her skates were too worn out to be usable, as were the replacements, so we gave up. How she dealt with it was illuminating...
Great ice skating ring! Fun for the whole family. No issues or complaints here. Just a great time. You can have your child's birthday party here too.
This place is neat in a sense of being able to skate in a loop from one room to another, which makes it a big rink to have tons of fun in. But e v e r y t h i n g is dated. You walk in there and it's basically the 80s that borrowed from the 60s. It's ugly, drab and honestly doesn't look clean. And the "scene" in the left room is hilarious....and ugly. The shoelaces on the ice skates are way too long, too? I get you can tuck them in, but it just makes your feet hurt. Something's got to give in there.
Had a great time. Though staff could be a little more friendly.
BRING YOUR OWN SKATES! the staff is great, very nice and informed. The coaches are excellant. The ice is zambonied every two hours. The pro shop is adequate, if they don't have it theyll help you find it.
The rental skates are a HAZARD! Worse than not being able to learn well, injury is a very serious possibility. You'll see if you put them on, they are broken down not broken in, and have 0 ankle support. This also puts your knees in a wonky position and negates your ability to switch edges at all.
If you've got your own skates, an excellant place to be.
FRIENDLY STAFF EXTREMELY CLEAN WELL KEPT ICE RINK. ONLY THE LACK OF VENDING MACHINES TO GET A QUICK SNACK WHEN THE SNACK BAR NOT OPEN.
Great game, good experience.
I loved this rink even before it became olympic-sized. It has still kept its original charm with the pseudo pueblo on one wall. The open rink sessions are good if you go when it's not too busy.
It is a very fun place to skate but is very outdated in it's design, the walkers for helping beginners skate are very inefficient and are harder to skate with. The ice was very melted also. The rental skates are very inflexible and uncomfortable.
The kids had a great time. The prices were a bit higher than anticipated; $10.00 for 2 hours of free skate time plus $3.00 for skate rental.
The new ownership has really turned this place around. Multiple inclusive programs lots of great energy.
Love this place, been skating here since I was little. Always a great family time!
Had my daughters bday party here today! Staff was friendly, and a big Thank you to Nico for all his help. Awesome place!
Everyone is always very helpful and in addition to having so many public sessions available they have private lessons, hockey for kids and adults, and figure skating instructors. Perfect for all ages.
We love skating. Wish the figure skaters were more polite. They intrude upon open skaters & take over the entire ice. I guess we need to get a little more pushy. We paid for the ice time too.
the place has been revamped which is great! The ice is great! The new owners are continuing to make improvements that make this a great place to skate!
Enjoyed watching a local hockey game. Seating provided a good view of the action.
Nice place just had the rink redone..... My nephews played hockey here for many years and now my son is taking the "learn to skate" class
It was OK even though I don't like ice skating. Good place to bring your kids if they are energetic or like ice skating.
Went here with the Girl Scouts and found the staff to be great. Facility could use a little updating, but it works!
i play hockey and go skating a lot, this place is in bad shape the employees are nice but don't know what they are doing. The ice is in bad shape but only people who skate notice that, this place is however the only option so if you want to try skating go ahead
Cool place! Came to see Lobo hockey game with my wife and a few friends. Very kid friendly. Very inexpensive.
Great, affordable, and fun ice skating. I went when part of the loop was closed for practice, but would definitely go again to experience the full arena.
so far I've only been there twice but it's been a blast each time. It's a great place for dates as well.
Fabulous!! Friendly staff, clean facility, great ice.
Was so much fun staff is nice was a very clean experience 👍🏼😊 …
As an expectator it is wonderful to watch a hockey game or people ice skating without freezing!! 2 ice rinks, modern basketball courts, great renewal!
Nice and clean. Very helpful staff at the pro shop.
Great experience here! Not too busy and great prices!
Facilities and ice are in need of some serious TLC, but it's the only rink in Albuquerque and has some decent hockey opportunities.
It is a really fun place to go ice skating their skates are qualify and if you cant ice skate they have walkers you can use plus their food tastes fantastic
Loved it! Haven't been skating in 15 years. It was so much fun
Not bad. Wish I could has gotten a learner bar for my kido but happy that they are sticking woth polices
Ice is large and well-maintained and it's never crowded. Some skates seem worn out. Staff is friendly.
Fun place to take the kids. Price is fair. We always have a blast when there .
Great place to learn to skate for everyone. Hockey teams come hear often to practice and play.
amazing, awsome ice, food, service. Definitely better than the other owners.
Awesome place to skate, but it is not a very high quality ice skating rink.
Great Place to take the kids and have a great time, prices were very cheap.
Two rinks, speed skating, curling. The ice isn't in as good of shape as it used to be. But, overall a great resource for the community.
Unique place to skate. Not the best ice in the state. Showers aren't always warm.
Good prices and two ice skating rinks. I enjoy going there a lot.
A really nice ice arena with several ice events to choose from.
Hockey leagues, instruction, free skating, stick and puck and more. Two rinks, never get's crowded. Really love this rink.
This place was amazing has alot of room to practice and skate freely around.
It was so fun skating and watching the Ice Wolves!
Hasn't been since I was a kid. LOVE the expanded rink!
Great place but there ice skates are horrible and staff are rude
It was great to watch the hockey game i saw tonight
Great facility, clean fun and great activity for the family
Awesome place to see a hockey game.
High quality stores, inviting atmosphere, children playground
I had a very nice time at this mall
By far the best ice rink in the area. My kids love the double rink!
The bathrooms are not perfectly clean, but whenever I've come it's always a good time.
Great place had a lot of fun
It's showing its age, but the skating is a ton of fun.
Nice arena, usually maintained pretty well, sorta grungy lobby area
I would come trip and fall here anytime!
It's age shows a bit but still great fun.
I play hockey for the Mustangs but the ice is usually blurry and we cannot see part of the goal line and neutral zone line
Best rink around!
Great place to ice skate or take in some hockey, nice arena
I love it here! But the food isn't very good
Very cold. Floors somewhat slippery, lovely shade of white.
Always have e a great time at the outpost.
Huge arena and great place for the whole family to have a great time!
Love this fun, local, family- oriented place!
So FUN going again on Thursday with Raymond g Sanchez community center
Good location, wrap-around skating rink, good food
It is not the best, but it is so fun to skate there
Great facility. Even better since remodel.
Great place to spend some time with your kids
Old but as good a place as your going to find on the Eastside.
Awesome rink and great skate programs for kids
Was in town to see my brother and nephew play some pickup hockey. Good times!
Super fun, great place to take family
Just wish it was a little cheaper, then I'd be there every day!
Wow is all I can say about this ice arena!
Awesome staff, great prices, nice place to be
Cool place and very fun atmosphere!

The 2 sheets is awesome and unique to ABQ

One of the biggest ice rinks when there isn't games and other events.
