I went to this store for the first time today as someone looking to purchase their first firearm. Not gonna lie, I was a bit intimidated walking into a gun store in general but I must say, Paul - who is the owner - was very welcoming, informative, and patient with all the questions I had. The store closed at 3pm and I had arrived there at around 2:30pm with other customers in front of me, and even the other customers were friendly and helpful. After he took care of the other customers, I feel like most other owners would have been pressed to close up shop, but Paul went above and beyond to make sure that I was as confident as possible in making my purchase and didn’t rush the process at all. Overall, it’s a great vibe here and I look to continue doing business with them. 100% recommend anyone to check this place out, whether your an experienced firearm owner or looking to learn. There’s a great selection to choose from , and Paul definitely knows what he’s talking about.

My wife and I took the CCP/Pistol Safety Course recently and Paul did an EXCELLENT job presenting the information. Very impressed! Having no experience with firearms I went into Paul’s shop after having been to several shops earlier that day. Paul asked me some questions, shared his knowledge, and guided me to select the correct firearm for my needs, something that I hadn’t experienced at the other shops. Hey, we had a great Conceal class at Arms for Defense. The owner, Paul, is there 6 days a week and you feel like you have a personal relationship with the guy. 11 people in the class this week and he knew all the names. Felt very comfortable. Covered all the topics with a little humor and a lot of knowledge. Then to the range for a safety check and everyone passed their gun safety shooting and received their Conceal class certification. I Purchased a Springfield Armory XDM compact 9mm firearm from Paul at Arms for Defense. Being new to a pistol, Paul was very patient and guided me in the right direction for what I needed. Paul is a great guy, I came in today with a couple of friends. He was willing to take the time to educate me on the products and some of the safety precautions when handling his firearms. I didn't end up purchasing, but that is because he has concern for his customers and their safety. Paul felt wrong selling a gun to someone who has never handled or shot a gun. I could have gone to any gun store in the area and they would have just sold me the gun. That says a lot about Paul's customer relation skills and it very quickly made me feel comfortable in his shop to ask more questions. I had never fired a weapon before and wanted to pursue attaining my concealed weapons permit. Paul from Arms for Defense came highly recommended. Having recently attended his four hour class, I clearly understand why. One, Paul is truly a Master or his craft, and secondly, he is passionate about emparting his knowledge onto his attendees. The classroom was comfortable and Paul practiced social distancing with seating. There was also snacks and refreshments which was nice. There was no fluff, no war stories or nonsense. All of his information was relevant and left me with a level of confidence I can build upon. We all left the classroom portion with a very informative packet loaded with references and a wealth of knowledge. After the classroom portion, we made a short drive to the Florida Firearms Academy. Paul had already coordinated the classroom students visit and they were expect us. Paul took each of us back one at a time and spent the necessary time with each of us until not only he felt comfortable but that we were confident. Yes, that is a tall order given the limited amount of time, yet Paul delivered! After completing the required training, because we paid our own range fees, I was able to stay and use the range and that is exactly what my boyfriend and I did. All in all, my experience was far greater then I could imagine. You cannot go wrong with Paul’s training. Lastly, Arms for Defense has range gear and equipment for purchase at very reasonable costs. We purchased some great hearing protection and safety goggles. Thanks again Paul.

Paul and Peter taught me everything anyone could possibly need to know about firearms. When I went in, I knew nothing about firearms except they had a trigger you pull to fire a gun. Seriously, when I left the store, I not only knew the proper way to pick up and handle a gun, but also the different parts and types (calibers). I thought what they said was so interesting that I signed up to take their class which covers the parts, and handling of firearms, as well the Florida laws on firearms, what came as a surprise to me since I never was a gun enthusiast, is that the class also allows you to earn your certificate for concealed carry. The guys are great and I would recommend their class to anyone looking to learn about guns or concealed carry. The only place in the Tampa Bay area to have a Glock 43x, looked for weeks and they had 2 in stock. With such low supply of that particular handgun they sold it to me at a reasonable price when they could command top dollar. The ammo was reasonable also. Paul did a great job instructing our class. I felt that he evaluated the class (about 8 people) for their current knowledge of guns and then presented the class material accordingly. Being that I was a novice, I was a little intimidated about attending a class where I knew there were going to be experienced gun people there, but my fears of looking stupid or asking a dump question were squashed by Paul’s personable and patient approach. Not only did he do a great job instructing us on classroom material, but he was just as informative and patient at the gun range, which can be a little overwhelming for someone who’s never been to one. I purchased from the store. I received a courtesy follow up call pertaining to class. My conceal carry class experience was concerning. A person/student in my class, agreed to leave. The student was asked by our class instructor, if that would be a preferred/acceptable choice. The masked student already appeared to have been made anxious. The instructor advised us, someone was ill and soon to arrive in class. The same student, engaged our instructor (Paul) about what a paying customer/student, could perceive as his clear statements of personal opinion. Statements the student perceived as blatant bias. I completed the class. But, I have to go neutral on the review. I cannot rate a class in accordance to state restrictions regarding the manner of how student paid conceal class materials should be delivered. I can only say in most paid adult classroom/corporate settings (IMHE) the students concern would have been valid.

While visiting in Florida, I decided I would try and get my Certificate of Training for the AFD Firearms Safety Course. This will allow me to carry concealed guns. Since we live and travel in a Motorhome, I thought that it would behoove me to get the Florida permit. The Arms for Defense came highly recommended as a place to take this class. My husband and I recently moved into the area and decided it would be wise to take the FL Concealed Carry Permit Course. My husband hunts and is very comfortable shooting a pistol. I, on the other hand, am not. I never shot a pistol before and never thought I would want to. Paul and Peter were great instructors. The class started with a couple videos and was broken down into three sections. First, they explained the types of pistols, parts and function. They showed and explained the difference between revolvers and semi automatic pistols. Next, they reviewed the NRA rules for safe gun handling, FL Law on use of deadly force, difference between ammunition types, and so much more. They answered tons and tons of questions throughout the course with a lot of focus on rules for safe gun handling. They provided handouts, materials, and even recommended books you can take home to reinforce what we learned. Lastly, the class transitioned into hands-on training. We were taught how load, unload and handle a firearm properly…again with a lot of focus on safety. At the end of the class, we shot a semi-automatic pistol. They worked one-on-one with each student and spent as much time as needed with each of us. Some student brought their own pistols, while others were able to use pistols provided by Paul and Peter. You got to shot as little or as much depending on the skills you demonstrated. I was amazed I hit the target let alone the bulls-eye. Three of my six shots were in the red. Boy was I excited. We both walk away feeling confident how to safely handle and secure gun as well as and how to operate a firearm in real life situations. Even if I never own a pistol, I am glad I went. We both learned a lot. Great class. I think everyone should take this class even if you have no desire to own a gun. Understanding how guns work, how to handle them, and the laws is well worth the investment of time and money. Knowledge saves lives.

I was on my way to a different shop that I have visited in the past, which is a good shop, nice folks, good choices etc some of the things I have looked into in the past were a little pricey. So fortunately on my way to the other shop I stopped in and met paul. It seems a customary thing for him to meet and greet everyone the same. I.e. -professional and to the point. I find some of the reviews I read here to be nearly unbelievable. I was there for 30-40 minutes and saw him interact with several people including myself and it was 100% professional. Now,onto my buying experience. I didn't. And I told paul that from the start. I will be buying in the next couple of weeks. He didn't throw me out...in fact after showing me about 6-7 guns I found a couple I was interested in and will be buying from him. He even went out of his way to show me alterations to his personal firearm that I was interested in doing to the one I will be buying 1st. I call that customer service. I'm not even a customer yet at that point and he did what I consider exceptional customer service. ..so now he does have another customer. His prices (contrary to some previous comments ) were every bit as good and in some cases better. ..than I've seen in other places and online. In the end. ..cheaper due to not paying shipping fees etc. Thanks paul.

This was the best experience I ever had in any store period. Paul was just a super great guy he got me everything I needed and even sprung to get something for me online he didn't carry for less money then rsp. He was very knowledgeable and didn't treat me poorly for my lack of knowledge and was very educational wich I really appreciated. When I came in he was helping another customer so they offered me a chair and bottled water/ coffee while I waited. The other guy who worked there I didn't catch his name sat and talked with me while I waited. It didn't feel like a gun store it was like walking into someone's house with a huge helping of southern hospitality. Plus the prices can't be beat. This is now the only gun store I'll go to they have more then earned my buissness. I will be going back in September for a pistol and my CWP!
