Matthew Stanton You are extremely disrespectful and dishonest with your review.
Lying is no way to go through life.
Mike the owner has never perceived or said to pursue fly fishing is for the wealthy ONLY or it’s supposed to be dry fly ONLY. I am a blue collar worker and Veteran with a family. In no uncertain terms will I be wealthy or have been wealthy. He greats me with the same respect as wealthy customers.
I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of nymph and streamer patterns , hundreds of dollars in tying materials for trout bass and pike and musky from Mends. Over the past 6 years
He has plenty of variety of price range for fly rods and reels from Orvis Clearwater model to Winston
A lot of his brand names like Lamson and simms have a low mid and high range price of equipment he carries them all or will get them for you.
Of all my travels from the driftless to Montana to Florida I have never come across a fly shop owner like Mike the owner of Mends so enthusiastic over getting kids into fly fishing and fly tying My son loves to Fly fish and fly tying and thanks to Mike the owner of Mends great mentoring he will be able to pursue a lifetime activity
Matthew Stanton you are what is wrong with today’s public media society.
Chris Engelbret
Owner and staff were really welcoming and helpful, gave great advice for doing some winter fly-fishing in the Driftless Region. I highly recommend this fly shop and this corner/neighborhood of SE Minneapolis in general: good food, coffee, beer, bikes, fly-shop. What's not to like?
Jerry Merriman
The shop appeared a little up scale, no wicker creels. The owner was helpful and had most of the stuff on my list He gave me a deal on some grizzly hackle, which I appreciated. I have been fishing a few years, when I go into a fly shop I want to see some trappings of tradition. Still I spent 200+, so they had most of the stuff I wanted and needed

I always love making a stop here. Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff - Mike the rest of the staff are always willing to talk shop and give advice. I love browsing (and buying) all the great flies, gear, and merch they have in the store.
Grab a donut and a coffee next door (Bakers Wife) and wander into the best fly shop in town.

I left the Twin Cities 5 years ago. Yesterday while fishing the upper Madison in Montana I was fortunate to run into Mike (owner) preparing to fish. Small world. I wish he had a store in the area I live now. I always enjoyed my visits to his shop.

I had such a great shopping experience. I ran into someone I knew from a fly fishing weekend who also liked the store a lot. Great customer service who was helpful picking flies, and a special gift for my guide. I look forward to returning and sparking more passion for fly fishing. A star down for being only a MALE centered store, I know many female fly fishers and you are missing out by omitting them in your store.

Read the review below and thought I’d share my experience.
When I first started fly fishing, I knew nothing. These guys gave me the run down and some helpful tips and I’ve since become obsessed with it. I’ve gone to this shop for about five or six years and they have a good selection of fly tying materials. Also, there are great clearance sales from time to time.
Maxwell Lent
Great fly shop! The owner is always willing to take his time to help you with whatever you need weather your buying a new rod or just some fly tying materials. He will share his knowledge and experience. I've been in a dozen times and never been disappointed.
Christopher Lightfoot
Stopped by Mend Provisions to pick up some new waders, boots and flies. What an incredible shop. Mike was extremely patient with me as I was new to fly fishing and had a ton of questions. He took the time to fit my gear, provide honest suggestions, and helped me pick out some flies. If you are looking for a fantastic fly shop, or simply want to check out a well-run, awesome store, swing by Mend. You won't be disappointed

My wife and I stopped in to the store a couple weeks ago. Mike is a really cool dude, was great at giving us some basic info and was very knowledgeable and friendly. The store is awesome, well kept, has great brands and everything else you would need to get out fly fishing. Its great to have a place within city limits. My wife and I are looking forward to the fly tying classes he puts on in the fall. Thanks again Mike and go check out his store.
Jerry Crary
Great shop and Mike is a great guy. My son Sam and I are in there bugging him all the time. Mike is always patient and helpful. We have bought materials and vice, rod and reel, and waders and boots. All great quality at a fair price. It is awesome to have a shop like Mike's in the Twin Cities.

Great fly store that also has quality men's accessories. I was trying to find a really nice wallet and this was the perfect place. They had a good selection and I found one I hope to last a very very long time. Made in Oregon from quality leather.
Zach Talraas
This shop has it all. For one, you’re keeping your money local, and who doesn’t like that. The shop owner, Mike, was more than happy to pass along some of his knowledge to a new fly fisherman. He even went as far as tossing a couple items in as gifts. I’m brand new to fly fishing, but from what I could see, he’s got anything you could want, and if not he knows how to get it for you.

Finally a real fly shop in the city! A great place with great gear and tying materials. The owner is always friendly and willing to lend a helping hand with any questions. It definitely has the "fly shop culture feel" that you find in other parts of the US. A great addition to the angling community.

A diamond in the rough for sporting goods stores. Specializing in fly fishing, Mend has an excellent selection of poles, flies, waders, and reels, as well as outerwear and accessories. Mike, the owner, is knowledgeable and super friendly, and speaks from experience. A must-stop for local fly fishermen.
Jay VerHelst
Great Shop and close to the cities! Lots of selection with local knowledge and fly tying classes on top of it! This is the fly shop the twin cities has been needing. You can find lots of fly tying supplies with a wide selection of hooks and materials. Simms, Patagonia and Umpqua to name a few brands. Mike was very helpful in helping me find what I needed and gave me some info on upcoming events. Can't believe I didn't visit the shop sooner. I don't know what one of the other reviewers was writing about saying it was a "boutique" !? Don't believe it for a second! The prices are great and the atmosphere is as well

As a Montanan I have been around my fair share of shops. When I found myself in Minneapolis my first instinct was to find a fly shop. I came into Mend Provisions and compared it initially to a boutique in down town Seattle! But the shop is amazing. The owner is so knowledgeable on all things fishing. The shop may be a little different, however, it has everything a person could ever need, and an expert standing behind the counter. If you don't fish sample his selection of trendy clothes.
This shop exceeds the standards of what a shop should be. Be sure to swing in!
Christopher Casselman
Called with a question about regulations and they were so helpful and knowledgeable. I think the mark of a great fly shop is one that doesn't just sell you stuff, but helps with local knowledge. I have a few choices of fly shops around town, but this is gonna be my go to. Keep it up!
Erik Laing
There are definitely less fly shops than there used to be in the cities, and that meant either going to the big box stores, ordering online, or trekking across town to find what you needed. Mend fills that void and then some. Great selection of common items for new flyfisher-people and veterans alike. Mike is a great guy and the folks that help out from time to time make it a worthwhile trip whenever they're open.
Drew Lindholm
Highly recommend buying your gear here - the owner is a great dude, the shop is well stocked with every goodie one would need; from tying materials to waders to quality denims. Support your local fly shop! -cheers
Jon Hirsch
Very nice shop. The owner was super helpful. I was looking for waders. I’m a tuff fit. He went the extra distance to figure out an option for me. I ended up buying a pair of hip waders that will serve me well. I will be back!
Eric Schwert
Stopped in while in Minneapolis for work. As I am new to fly fishing, I really just wanted to browse and ask a few questions. Mike was more than patient and offered some great advice about getting started and baseline equipment to invest in. I will definitely stop by again whenever I am in Minneapolis.
Michael Conroy
Mike hooked me up with some boots and waders that were right for my budget, the right flies for the Kinni, and lots of great advice for a novice fly fisherman. Awesome store with lots of beautiful stuff at all price points - will be back in soon!

So I’m sitting here surfing around on the Interwebs and think... “why not do some reviews of local merchants that I am loyal to?” The first merchant that comes to mind is “Mend Provisions”. This review is based upon my probably thirty “experiences” over the last few years. Having read every other review of the shop, I must say that most have enjoyed their interactions at Mend. Let me address a couple of points about the shop. The owner is honest, loyal, passionate, friendly, highly experienced in many facets of retail sales and merchandising, enjoys all kinds of people and loves to take those of us that don’t have huge time on the streams, through the entire process of outfitting and getting to where the fish are. The environment within the store could be prejudged as being “elitist” simply because it’s not the Walmart of fly fishing and related Chinese garbage. In today’s brightly lit and corporate-driven, consumer-mill stores, the general population has come to expect this sort of layout. If you love fluorescent bulbs, obnoxious people and the need to be locked and loaded, Mend is NOT your cup of tea. If one cannot handle a personal experience, well just walk in, don’t say “Hi”, proceed directly to an area you require your hardware and checkout. It’s that simple. Now if you’re like me and always have more questions than answers then the fact that there’s a lifetime of knowledge to be had will be cherished. You are not judged by your lack of skill (that’s me). If you walk in not wearing SIMMS, Patagonia, Howler Bros, or Orvis? You’re not going to be ignored! The place is simply the finest fly fishing and outdoor provision store in the state. If you want mass merchandising ADHD, there’s plenty of huge green/yellow, sky blue/yellow and bulls-eye stores to endure. By now, if you haven’t detected my affinity for a personal experience while gathering what I need for my fishing expeditions then I can only say that you should stop staring through the window and proceed to enter Mend Provisions. You will understand exactly why I wrote this review.

Hidden gem in Mpls with a staff well versed in their product. My husband and I have been several times, we will be back many more. We highly recommend. Buy local! I'd love to see more gear/clothes for women. My only complaint!
Tony Kukich
Didn't know Mend was here until today. I Had a good conversation with Mike and bought some new waders and tippet. I was happy to have found Mend and glad to support a local independent shop. Thanks!

Great selection of gear. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff - they will help you find what you need, even for someone like me who doesn't know what they need yet!
I always learn something new in there and look forward to heading back!

this mend provisions is great place for me to feel comfortable even i just became a beginner fly angler last month for first time. mike is great guy, patient and expert to share his insight of fly fishing friendly ever i could ask any question. fyi, i'm deaf so it is nice and easy for me to see same his face next time.
thank god there are chairs for me to sit so i could rest my injured back. in another word, that would be perfect idea for me to bring my wife so she can sit there without telling me to rush looking around. :D
his organization is neat, professional and easy me to figure out which materials or tools belong to group. i mean no more headaches for me in future if i want tying there in class to sit comfortable. if i happen to forget something else, i can seek for the right materials to buy from either neat drawer or on wall that could take my headaches away. mend provisions is right atmosphere for me to enjoy shopping.

Absolutely worth the drive and we will be back soon!

I injured my back (ruptured seven disks), and I came into his shop today after one year of not fishing or tying. Needless to say, anytime that I saw anything fishing related it drove me into a depression.
Because of the staff at Mends, they let me talk about my problems, and it actually reminded me more of a barbershop or habidashery.
I ended up buying some tying material, because he got me back into the spirit of it.

Love this place. Is a smoothly blended cocktail of practical fly gear and tasteful curation. Originally from MN but now live in SE Wisconsin. Stop by every time I'm back in town.

Mend Provisions deserves more recognition. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about flyfishing in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Anyone interested in flyfishing and lives in the Twin Cities should give it look.
