Reviews of Japanese Village Plaza
Haydee Hernandez
Visited Little Tokyo with the family. We stopped at this plaza. A nice size plaza to explore. I wish I could have tried a few food items and desserts. I did try a steamed bun. It was delicious. Good selection of shops and eateries. Don't remember seeing any restrooms. Very busy.
Cynthia Jimenez
Fun and fast paced. Parking available at the little Tokyo mall for I think the maximum is $12 all day but there are some shops around that will validate the parking. So many sushi restaurants in the area I've never seen so many in one are.a some right next door to each other. That was fun. The decor was awesome. There was even grocery stores and even a Mediterranean bar with food. We stopped there to use the bathroom because of course that is one thing that actually is hard to find though. Unfortunately.

Don’t worry, you will have fun! It can be packed but it’s a great tourist attraction for people who are visiting in Los Angeles! People in here are nice and friendly! The food is astonishing amazing! Best for anime watchers or Japan lovers !
Ice Queen
Little Tokyo mall is all connected to Japanese village plaza. If your a big geek and a big anime fan your gonna love this. This is one of the spots to go. Delicious food and drinks and a great place to get a souvenir, but....
Don't be surprised if everything is expensive.
Some spots is only cash but most are card.
⚠️ Warning Tip ⚠️ keep track of what you pay with your card because they tell you is 40 dollars and in your bank account would end up showing 60 so be very careful.
Happen to me two times lol didn't notice into later on. 😅
It can also take you all day if your undecided of what to buy and love taking pictures of everything and seeing everything to. 😄
Other then that everything is super cool.
❤️😍❤️

Weekends are very busy so I recommend you come around 11:30 to walk around without fighting crowds or in the weekdays. Plan your parking, that’s are a few public parking garages averaging $12-$15. Plenty of food vendors and shops but still bring your mask as many will require. If you forget you can find some shops selling.
Salim Khoso
It was a great experience witnessing a little Japan in Los Angeles California. This place was decorated in a Japanese style and had many Asian food places. It looked great at night with beautiful and attractive lighting. I will surely go again there whenever I visit California specially Los Angeles.
Christian Kolb
Fun little village. My oldest son enjoyed the pastries and boathouse boys had a blast looking for things in the stores that they generally have to order online only. Not my cup of tea, but the area was cool, festive for the Christmas season as well.
Christoph
Small but nice. For all of you who love Japanese culture, this is a must go to.
There's a dozen of shops and restaurants where you can satisfy your Japanese needs.
Grab a snack or drink and just sit down and enjoy the atmosphere there, which is so much different then arround and outside of Little Tokyo, especially at night.
David Torres
Been here twice and had a good time walking around and checking out the cool shops and the Sanrio Store. Parking structure elevators are super slow, stairway smells like urine, buy other than that had a good time and will return. I could not find Restrooms but the did have some portable potties next to the parking structure.
Harry Potter
So many reasons to love and live your life. Many restaurants, so much good foodz and awesome drinks, matcha tea and boba🍵.. Visit during Christmas. Having warm soup walking in the cool night bright your way wy the beautiful light …
Susan Pickering (msrosedale)
So many interesting stores. Food places were really good, we had bubble tea at tiger sugar and 🍣 Sushi at Zencu it was amazinggg! …
Alex Barajas
Totally worth going here. It's right in the middle of downtown LA near Union Station and Olvera St. A quick walk from Union Station. The surrounding area has a lot of homeless so I suggest going in the middle of the day. Lots of eateries and shops. They were only letting a finite number of people into most of the shops.
Llorito Castanares Todd
I always love shopping here. I can easily spend all day here. Parking garage on site, $10 dollars but can be validated at some of the restaurants and stores. I highly recommend for anyone in the area.
Nicole Mazkour
Super cute shopping area with a lot of japanophile stores. I had a lot of fun here and they have an authentic takoyaki spot that was pretty good. I also like shopping in the hobnob store. You must try the Japanese bakery too!!
Pruthvi Ks
Great place to walk around and experience the Japanese cuisine. This plaza has such lovely vibes that you get lost in the place. Be careful when you walk to the plaza - you gotto cross a lot of homeless people who have literally taken over the side walk including bus stations.
dollface187
This place is a lot of fun. Lots to eat, good price stores, and just fun to go to. I was really impressed that the stores sold their products without the 3x price hike. Of course you're going to pay a little extra than if you were in Japan, but not over the top prices. I would love to return again and stay longer because we only stopped because we needed to kill time. I would recommend visiting.
Alex Padilla
Lots of cute shops with all sorts of interesting knick knacks like toys japanese utensils. Also a lot of restaurants both for sitting down at and for quick bites like dessert. Definitely worth a couple hour visit.
Bb (bbinurmouthJr)
Such a beautiful place, lots of things to do. You have restaurants all over the place and small Japanese stores with lots of convenient items and souvenirs.
Marsha Meyer
Great place to visit. Authentic Japanese restaurant, Japanese market where you can buy unique ingredients, and also pre-made food. Much cheaper than buying Japanese ingredients from a American grocery store. Lots of fun candies. And many little shops that sell cute souvenirs and bright clothing. There's lots of parking and they do validate if you visit one of the restaurants.
Nicholas Pun
Lots of restaurants and Japanese goods stores. Love this place, could easily spend an afternoon here!
Tina C
Came here for the Nisei Festival and of course enjoyed lunch and shopping in the Plaza as well. Great area to spend an afternoon and enjoy food, shops, and Japanese culture.
Elvia Cortez
Love, love, love, little tokio! It's what we call it. We've been coming here for years and as it keeps it traditional feel it's always developing- more great eateries, great shops, great place to enjoy alone or with family. Enjoy a good meal and then a good stroll with some good coffee and a tasty pastry. Kids love coming here. Parking available in their structure and they validate. Check it out!
Ms. H
Excellent shops and very clean space reflecting the good nature of Japanese culture. Authentic and easy to get by with public transportation. The only downside was there was no restroom in this mall so it was not kids friendly. We were forced to buy food at a restaurant in order to use one.
Lily Dawis
Always buzzing with vibrant energy, one of my must visits while in LA. Favorite makeup essentials and well priced cutest items can be found here. During pandemic, stores and restaurants dutifully enforce the mask on and social distancing rules. Some even went the extra mile to bring their goods out in the sun, bazaar style, barring access to their store. The only puzzling thing recently about this plaza was the absence of public restrooms. Visitors must be patrons at one of the establishments to use the in-site restrooms. Please correct me if am wrong but circled the plaza for 20 minutes and asked numerous staffs and were advised as such... Other than that, the plaza was still great.
Sergio Cabra
Nice japanese everyday market replica. I guess the cold customer service is part of the cultural experience. Not public restroom service is shame, only by compulsory product buying at"some" venues you get to relieve such a basic need. Overall a very basic place to visit.
Andy X
It’s a wonderful place , open space, late night Japanese restaurant and bars, clean and safe, but the parking is hard
Kim S
So many memories here for us from little children to now with our own children. Lots of wonderful cultural shops and eateries. Right in the Heart of Little Tokyo. Right across from the Japanese National Museum, Go For Broke Learning Center, Japanese American Cultural Center and Home to the Yearly Nisei Festival. We love coming back again and again 🤗
Gail Crutcher
Fun variety of shopping...eat at Kura Sushi for Great fresh Sushi and Entertainment (conveyor food and a robot that brings your drinks).
isam biaha
a very nice and well maintance area. a lot of small shops of Japanese merchandise and food
Noah Bowser
Before noon it was very mellow and had a few shops open, and you could peer through the windows of shops that weren't open yet. Once noon hit it was lively and filled with interesting vendors. The shops required a mask and would ask if you didn't have one, which I was pleased with. If you're an anime lover like me, the prices for any merch you find was pretty inexpensive. If you enjoy Japanese culture in general there are plenty of items that would suit anyone's taste. Every shop I visited I purchased something. Wonderful experience, shop attendants were welcoming and helpful. It was my first time and I can't wait to return.
El Che
I Love Japangeles and you will too! Plenty of small shops with quality items , a market exists right in the middle and sometimes people get food from there and they go eat it outside. You mainly going to find Japanese items snacks foods sashimi grade fish that type of thing. I think it's a beautiful place and every time I go I have a great time.
Abhishek Shankar
We went there in the morning, many of the shops were closed however the some serving breakfast were open and wow, the breakfast was awesome. Hot buns were just too good. We took some away for lunch as well. The area has lot of Japanese grocery shops, anime shops. basically everything which you would want. Its smaller than chinatown, but worth visiting!
h roberts_13
It's a really cool area with lots of food options. It has cool shops with items especially those into anime/manga. Only problem was that there wasn't a lot of public bathrooms.
Victoria T.
Many small shops and great selection of Japanese food. It does get a little bit crowded and many places require mask to enter to establishment and have to have limited number of shoppers allowed at one time.
Jonathan Lopez
Awesome spot for photos and family. Stop by for a tastey morsel in one of the many eateries!
Yuri A
Went on a Saturday and felt kinda dead. I remember coming here as a child and was so lively but it didn't feel like that idk if it is a post covid effect. The shops are nice, really like the market they have a lot of ingredients that I don't see in my local market.
Jessica McLear
It has cute little shops and different restaurants there and a Asian market which is always fun to go to but no public restrooms so if u have to use starbucks which isn't in the plaza or use one at a restaurant but only if u eat there
Sunny Liu
A beautiful place to visit with plenty of cultural things to see and do! If you're a fan of anime and manga, this plaza is a miniature heaven! Great food to be found around the area as well!
Wee Khim Lee
Visited Jul 4 weekend 2021 with family - nice area to explore and soak in Japanese culture but it was jam packed. Larger than its SF counterpart with more diversity. When looking for food check out the entire 4 block area around this plaza as there are plenty of choices. Underground anime area is a little hard to find.
Hien Bui
This place was pretty good! It's very popular on the weekends I see a lot of people coming to try it out. It was my first time having onkinomiyaki so I ordered the standard one with crispy noodles with some Chicken Karaage as a topping and it came out soooo damn good! This made me want to learn to make it at home. Price was a little steep but worth the experience! I think my plate with the Karaage came out to be around $22. (In japan usually half this price). I would come back though because it was delicious!
If you don't know what to order just go with the standard, crispy noodles and Karaage. can't go wrong here!
Eddy Wardo
If you're a fan of Japanese culture, pop culture, or cuisine, this is an obvious must stop visit while in Los Angeles. Even if you are not, it'll be an interesting experience with a guarantee to find gifts, souvenirs, or food to try.
Tomie Tomie
Very beautiful place with lots of nice people. A lot of them got interesting fashion interests so that's also cool. Not much judgement like many other places. The food there be bussin too. 10/10 would go back every weekend
Town Traveller
You can feel the Japanese ambiance. Gets too crowded sometimes.
Robin Le
a small plaza, full of japanesr resturant
Kelci Davis
This was such a neat area to stumble into! We were taken aback by how beautiful, detailed and authentic everything seemed. In non-COVID times, I would have loved to really meander and explore everything, but even just passing by and glancing in windows was a real treat. There's definitely a great variety of little shops inside!
T.C. W
As a man who is passionate about Japanese culture, this is what I consider to be the hidden gem of LA. Rich in experiences and flavors Little Tokyo is a "must got to destination. "
Daniel A.
Fun spot to shop around. Can get fairly crowded though but it's all part of the experience. Lots of cool and cute shops and a small market.
Wilfred Tam
One of my favorite places to go when I think of Japan I used to live there a while ago. Too bad, komasa sushi closed the chef's retired and I'm sad
Franklin S
Love this little Japanese theme little plaza. It's of decent size and lots of stores fort those interested in Japanese anime, manga and toys. Some nice eateries and places to snack. Surrounding area is a bit ghetto so I wouldn't venture to far beyond a couple of blocks. However across the street on East 1st Street are more places to eat.
Mike
I really love this place, it's got the best shabu shabu place. They also have nice little shops and some people dress up.
John Hsieh
Better known as "Little Tokyo" in Los Angeles, Japanese Village Plaza is the center of the Japanese themed area in Downtown LA. The plaza itself has numerous stores that sells Japanese goods, Japanese food, and even a Japanese supermarket. If you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on your mood), there's usually some sort of gathering of cosplayers in the plaza. Street parking is available, but nearly impossible to find, and nearby structures all charges an arm and a leg. Definitely worth a visit if you can make it here.
Larry Abruzzo
It's okay if you're l in the area during this time of the pandemic. Lots of Raman noodle establishments, I cant. Recommend any because I haven't ate⁰ at any.
Angelica Bliss
I felt like I was in a theme park without the extra fees. food was delicious, people were friendly, there were a lot of stores and options.
Dorian T
Great place to bring friends and family. (Or go solo!) Lots of Japanese culture filled shops and food. Interesting sights and overall a great stop for a downtown LA visit.
Patrick D
A nice little place for a stroll while passing thru. It has a bunch of restaurants and shops. The place is colourful and well decorated with lights and a lot seating area!
Rubi Garduno
Little Tokyo❤ a very special place in California! Not many states have their own taste of Japan or have japanese imported goods😍😍
No need to subscribe to boxes with random merchandise when you can select your own kawaii items and collectibles and taste authentic delicious food🙌🏽 …
C. D.
What is there to say about little Tokyo that hasn't been said already? It's a great place to just hang out and get good food, visit interesting shops, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Mariela Gonzalez
I really enjoy this place,I felt good vibes around,I ate delicious food and share good time with my family
Eddy Bretado
Always something To do and to see all of the stores and restaurants were very strict about everyone wearing a mask and social distancing the parking is always limited but we get there early to avoid any problems. This is absolutely a place to bring your family even though a lot of the businesses turned into restaurants you still get an overall good experience and there is a lot of history and information that goes along with little Tokyo.
Katrina Minor
Love the different shops, cafes and grills. Easy to spend s few hours just hanging out and enjoying the weather.
John Appling
I really enjoyed this place there are a lot of interesting restaurants and shops that you can look at. I enjoyed a wonderful meal today of ramen fried mozzarella sticks and a bottle of soju. The staff was wonderful. It was a pleasant experience and I would love to go back and do it again.
Kien Tsoi
So much to see! Love this place! All the stores and the food is soooo good! There is no validation but the parking is plentiful and easy to find. Don’t forget to check out the 2nd floor a there’s a game room, karaoke and other stores! Just be prepared to wait for dinner. But you will find tons of places to eat!
Rhonda Yellow Cloud-Galvan
1st time here and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of good food to eat and very cool and unique items and souvenirs. We didn't get to explore the whole place but we plan to come back. I recommend this place for sure oh and they have a parking garage to!
Michael Holden
Delicious sushi, great shopping, all kinds of people, and lovely ambiance. Highly recommend. Almost all the shops are open despite the pandemic. Parking was easy last time I was there, evening on a weekday. Bunch of cosplay people were there which made things festive.
Dan Roa
Always fun to explore the culture through the shops and the food. Love it. Be aware there are no public restrooms. You'll have to go into a restaurant and order something to use their restroom.
Mindy Nelson
Amazing selection of stores, restaurants, and snacks in one cool experience. If you are a fan of Japanese culture, this is the place to visit. Parking was close and reasonably priced. Several stores willl validate your parking if you make a purchase. Be forewarned, there are no public bathrooms unless you choose to eat at a sit down restaurant.
Asna S
Really cute spot in Little Tokyo with a bunch of shops and restaurants and a couple spots to just sit and relax. We ended up going on a Sunday morning so a lot of the places weren't open yet but it was still fun to just hang out and window shop for an hour or so
Mika Niu
Clean and beautiful.
Each store is very careful with COVID.
Great restaurants, dessert shops and Japanese gift stores.
Jen Doyle
Very crowded. Hard to find parking. Many stores were packed with both merchandise and shoppers.
It's a cool little place with lots of little shops and restaurants, but the crowds and lack of adequate parking made it a less than pleasant experience.
Pictures are not allowed in most of the stores (one worker told me it was due to copyright issues for all the anime characters, and also due to a security issue).
Patrick T
Nice place to visit for a few hours or try some Japanese foods. There is very few facts showing typical Japanese culture.
Steven Kimball
I work close to hear and love coming here for lunch or a nights outing.
For lunch:
Daikokuya is the best ramen here.
Kagura is great for 2 or 3 item sets with miso soup and salad included.
ToT is great for a variety of items, you can choose from a lot there.
Fuga is hands down the best place for lunch and dinner, but pricy sonexpect to pay $20 with tip for lunch and $30 for dinner, not including drinks.
Night life:
Tokyo Beat is on the second story of the plaza, good for late night snacks and karaoke although expect to wait a long time for your song (they play favorites with their regulars).
Wolf and Crane is a really cool spot for Japanes Whiskeys, some good beers, and dim lit ambiance
Spitz has really good deals on Mediterranean food and awesome beers!
These pics are from my lunch break and I tried to capture moments that did not have a ton of people, but it gets crowded there.
One star off for the lack of security. There is usually one guy around but feel they need more of a presence sense the place covered a lot of ground. Be aware there ate a lot of homeless in the area. 99% chance they will only ask you for a dollar and move on their way, but you need to always use caution in LA.
mamadou balde
Cute little village. Love all the food there, you could never get enough. There were these steamed buns that was amazing. I really like the curry man dumpling. You can than head over to H-mart and do some shopping or see what selection of hot food and desserts they have ready to eat.
Anime fans biggest dream, so many anime merchandise.
Honoyoru
Awesome location full of amazing culture and stores! Love coming here every time I'm here!
Traveling Terrezzas
Always buzzing with vibrant energy, this is a way to see how various culture have shaped LA and had an influence. There are so many eats, shops and fund items to do! There is a tree and you pay a small fee to hang your wish from there. The lantern and the design of the village definitely has influence of historical Japanese roots, not something “modern” if you will. A LOT of anime/manga shops for serious fans to shop around in.
This was not something we originally planned but very happy we had time in evening to stop by and stroll through the plaza.
Sten Edwards
Great little area with lots of neat restaurants, stores have all the anime and Japanese items you need, although the home goods are a little overpriced.
Leigh Fisher
I adore this plaza, there are so many wonderful restaurants, shops, and dessert places. It’s such a pleasure to walk through and try out different places.
Eddie B
The restaurants which are on street level were decent and reviewed accordingly. The lower level needs an upgrade theme, but still the shops are okay inside. One thing that is lacking is a public bathroom. Only restaurants have signs that indicate only for patrons. Well unfortunately, we passed them by to dine in. Parking was 15$ and easy self parking. As always, post what you experience so others can enjoy.
dj_fk
The plaza has a variety of shops and food spots, definitely a good time I'd recommend coming here early in the day or in the afternoon before 6pm to get the full experience because a lot of shops start closing around that time
Brandon Wise
first time down there had a blast good food and great shops
Hadi's Entertainment
It is an amazing place on #downtownla tou can find Japanese food, games, animations and Japanese toys and stuff there, during the weekend it is too crowded but it is worth it, just 10 minutes walk from #unionstation, there is big parking lot there also.
Hailey Frazier
We had an AWESOME afternoon exploring the Japanese Village! The bakeries were so good, the people are kind, the shops are clean. If you go, make sure to check out the wishing tree.
We will definitely come here again! Plenty to do!!
Mare Galindo
Nice little village where you can walk and go inside little stores, cute place
MaiLia
Nice variety of little gift shops. I'd advise you to shop around if you have time before making purchases a lot of stores have some of the same items different prices. Go with a friend or large group if going late at night. Great food spots.
Alex Cruz
Great place to hang out, have great food, and go shopping. Recommend going during the start week during the day, when it's most relaxed.
Yoshitaka Katayama
This place is historic and great. A lot of snacks and drinks and cool clothes to shop. Check it out if you haven't.
Seconds Nature
If it's the same place that I think I was at it was a bit circumspect. Not kind, but not rude. Just urban. Several folding chairs, people studying, others seemingly having a late lunch, and I peruse along looking for an outdoor film or something?
Roberto Rvl Dimnri
Great atmosphere that stands out of other Los Angeles spots. Plenty of great restaurants to choose from.
Ryan Killpatrick
If you're interested or into the JAPANESE culture or.... Traditional, or popular, the JAPANESE VILLAGE PLAZA in central DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES is the place to be!!!! And if you're into anime and manga, PLEASE make sure you explore the shops in the lower level sections!
Laurel Klynn
Always great, always cute, always something fun happened. Great food, cute little shops, iconic people watching. Lots of special events. A special little spot.
Sofia Aldape
Loved this little center....they had a Sanrio store my daughter wanted to go to and lots of cute lil shops ....the juice bar we went to was good too just what we needed to refresh ourselves from the hot weather
Javier Aguirre
Great cultural experience. Fantastic food and intresting Anime shops.
Ann Toomey
I could walk through here everyday. Wonderful food. A real must do when in LA.
Jose Sanchez
Cafe dulce delicious breakfast burrito got the bacon added sausage & avocado, wow
Blueberry matcha & breakfast burritos keep me coming back
Vincent Mok
Awesome focus area within j town. Liked the variety of shops. I only stopped by here briefly due to time so I only had an awesome iced green tea and snack but definitely will need to come back
Jose A. Carmona
This place is all about atmosphere, it almost feels like you are in a different place completely. The food is amazing and I highly recommend visiting this place especially if you are hungry with many dining out options.
The I man
An amazing place! Many shops to buy awesome cultural items. Many culturally rich restaurants. And a dedicated crowd of people that come!
Chinh Chinh
Little Tokyo is also full of cute little specialty shops too if you’re interested in looking for kawaii culture, anime, mochi ice cream, Japanese groceries and cosmetics only found overseas. There’s a wide range of shops in the shopping center there as well as many restaurants, depending on if you’re in the mood for ramen or sushi or whatever.
Jose Luis Hernandez
Great spot for a coffee, drink, dessert and some people watching. You might even find yourself something super kawaii to buy.
Travelbug
I got to admit I like this Japantown more than my local one. Its open space/ being outdoor makes it more lively.
I like that there are multiple Japanese markets here: Nijiya & Marukai.
White Crow0 (RU1)
Always an amazing experience coming here met so many great people too!
Jayce Pasko
A fun and festive part of Los Angeles to visit! We enjoyed the unique stores filled with a variety of merchandise. The kimonos were beautiful! A man was playing a traditional Japanese instrument which really helped set the scene. A must- see place!
Steven Nguyen
Wow! I came to this place on new year day 2020. It is crowded with tourists and there are too many Japanese restaurants. Nearby is small Japanese Gardern but it’s closed for renovation.
Matthew Buranich
Beautiful and quiet. With friendly finches that land around you, as long as you're calm. Great little stores, plenty of places to sit or eat.
Garret Fong
It was my first time at Japanese Village Plaza and it was pretty cool. It reminded me of NYC Chinatown with all the anime shops but with a lot more shops, better food options and much cleaner! The weather was great to walk around in, about mid to low 70's. It was pretty crowded but not too bad. There's a lot of places that you can sit and enjoy street foods and drinks. The center of the plaza had 2 huge umbrellas that provided shaded area for you to rest and enjoy your snacks and new toys you purchased. Overall, a great place to checkout especially if you're into anime. I'm not really into it but it was still pretty fun seeing all of them! Definitely check it out if you're in the area it's a pretty cool experience and great food options!
Derek Brown
Tons of shops with all sorts of products. Everything is open around noon, so don't get there too early. Good mix of indoor and outdoor spaces so it should be fun no matter the weather.
Thought it was great. Can definitely get crowded when busy.
Kim Vazquez
Awesome choices for sushi to go! Variety of snacks and meat choices
J. BISBAL
Good place to stroll for Asian food and goods, the bakeries are delicious, crowd everywhere. Parking structure. There's even a small Buddhist temple hidden nearby.
Larry Abruzzo
Great place to take your first date, lots of places to eat at and many had people waiting outside so you know it's good and lots of shops to browse after dinner or before.
Mariana Ramirez
I really liked this ice cream with the fish pastry. I had the ube ice cream with honey milk. It is visually appealing and it tastes good. I gave it a 4 star only because the guy that served us, looked like he really didn't want to be there. But don't let that stop you from trying this place out😀 …
Gili Sofer
Nice parking lot. A little expensive if you don't validate the parking with the shops
The ATeam Family
I can't believe we've never been here!!! Such a hidden jem.. Can't wait to come back.
Cris Borgnine
A great place to visit with your friends or family. Fun shops and good food.
Alex Kim
A small Japanese shopping village with a range of eateries and specialty shops. I was here on a Saturday and they hosted an open air Karaoke which was entertaining. Close to LA are district with a few breweries.
Georgine Okura
Fun place to roam. Lots of eating establishments, as well as quirky stores to explore. Added bonus, if you look up, away from your phone, there's a lot of cool buildings and sights to photograph!
Olivia Akatsu
I leave in Japan visiting Japanese town in downtown L.A. is great you will never missed delicious japanese foods....
Jerry Zhou
Unique street featuring authentic Japanese cuisines and stores. It's like stepping into a small part of Japan, but in LA.
There is a parking structure connected to the plaza. The parking structure leads to the basement. There are a lot of anime and kawaii stores in this area. Walking outside is where the food and gift shops are. The vibe in Little Tokyo is pleasantly unique.
We looked at the different types of bread for forty minutes at different shops. It was an interesting experience.
Long Mac
Super busy and packed for the Thanksgiving week. I'm happy for that!!! Looks like life is back to normal except for the inflation and rise in prices 😢😢😢 …
L. Aguilar
There is tons to do with even more to eat, the lines will be long at the popular restaurant you're going too so don't be afraid to venture to smaller restaurants with a more authentic experience will be had. There is parking on site with three entrances as of writing this it's 8 dollars. Most things in the village close earlier than eight, but there is still plenty to do and see around this location.
Jago Gonzalez
Stopped by for some green tea ice cream and bought the gf and I an adorable tea set. Only wish I had more time to visit and dine in at all the restaurants in the village.
Luca
It's a fun place, traditional Japanese music all around, a lot of markets, sushi and izakaya in every corner. If you come to Los Angeles, you have to visit Little Tokyo. Such a strange place in such a big city.
Chris Turczynskyj
Fun spot to visit but don't let your visit start and end at this plaza, explore the areas around too. There are a lot of other great places (fugetsu-do bakery for one) in the surrounding blocks.
Pat Samson
Ah nice authentic pocket sized piece of Japan. Lots of nice shops and food places to check out here. Very safe and nice neighborhood, which surprised me since skidrow is only a few blocks south of here. If you want to have a quick cultural experience without the overseas travel there is plenty to offer here. The bbq, sushi spots, and merchandise are all as top notch as one would expect. The nearby tokyo mall is a little piece of geek heaven
Chfelina Sol
The japaneese village is beautiful. Lots of restaurants and gift shops. There is a market where we grabbed lots of goodies to try. Price was fair😁. Little tokyo mall is there. The lines to go in the stores were long😒 because of covid. We parked two blocks away from there and while walking i wish it was cleaner around😒. …
Dina Dollens
Nice little place to take some pictures if you have the time. The best of coming here was Yamazaki bakery
Daniela Bailey
Very crowded. Interesting shops and little restaurants all tucked in a small area. Vibrant vibe. Not good if you're trying to avoid covid
Benjamin Hiebert
Quite a lovely place in Little Tokyo, with many iconic and cultural shops and decorations. Everything is beautiful and bustling with life as there are plenty of wonderful stores and restaurants to visit there. Certainly a good stop for anyone interested in Japanese food or style.
Gigi
This location is definitely a must visit if you have any time while visiting Los Angeles. the food the culture the style everything is really fun and I highly recommend checking it out.
Randal Pettyjohn
Japanese village is a very cool place,
Lots of shops, restaurants and things to do, nice stop on our way out of LA.
Sir Bernard Mendes France
Little Tokyo is just a station stop away from Union Square. A very wonderful relaxing well laid out pedestrian mall located in the larger area of this canton. Nijiya Market is conveniently found alongside many smaller cafes, bakeries, and restaurants that dot the squares open-air plaza.
Co-mingling with numerous sundry goods stores and the adjacent underground parking.
Great places to eat and dine-in at, as well as families with kids of all ages and students alike to hangout, browse and socialize. The prices here are very moderate and like the larger grocery stores found in Tokyo and other cities too, the staples are very closely matched. Including an array of select bento boxes to go and beverages only true connoisseurs would know from abroad.
Truly one of the Best of LA's hidden gems that keeps getting better with time, not to be missed any day of the week whenever you're in Downtown Los Angeles visiting or sightseeing for a spot to munch or lunch at !!
Maha Laasri
Cute little alleys with nice shops and yummy restaurant for Sushi lovers
ana rivera
Super cool place to visit. Lots of stores and too much to see.
meow bruhhh
Went here on my 1st date. Great place, cool stuff too. Great for people who enjoy manga and anime (also Japanese food). I saw a few cosplayers and photoshoots which was interesting but cool!
Vania Bouffard
Lots of little shops in and around! Great food, wonderful vibe and an essential part of LA history
mike evangelista
Such a nice hidden gem in dt LA! Lots of nice little shops here in an otherwise unassuming area. Pretty busy though, so get there early! Lots of good places to eat and shop!
Fred Grant
One of my favorite spots in Los Angeles. Many shops, restaurants, and even live music . If you are a fan of Japanese culture and cuisine then definitely stop by. I go at least once a month and still find new things.
María Alejandra Vivas Rojas
Japanese Village Plaza totally feels like you transported yourself from Los Ángeles to Japan in just seconds! There are plenty of Japanese restaurants and shops (there’s a Sanrio there!) and you can try delicious desserts such as mochis, my favorite flavor was banana. Sometimes, if you’re lucky enough, you’ll find some artist playing music :)
Anil Cherian
We went mainly to get lunch having arrived at the LA Union. It was suprisingly a nice cultural experience.
Sandra Chavez
Loved the experience. Hopefully we can go when all of this pandemic is over. The food is wow!! everywhere you go here.
Marcella Polus
Laid back atmosphere, shop owners and employees are very helpful and enjoyable for the most part! Spent three afternoons here and I still feel like I haven't thoroughly explored the area!
Florian O
Good spot to eat japanese
Judy Clavin
Annual Los Angeles Japanese festival, showcase food demos, restaurants and stores. Scheduled events are spread out at different sites in the Tokyo village vicinity.
bunnyliz R

Plythy
Nice venue, great atmosphere, nice stores and restaurants in the area as well! Retro games, anime, japanese shops, imported items and good food.
Charly Mendez
I am so happy to see SoCal, in general, reopen and everyone being as safe as they can be. The Japanese Village Plaza is a great place to shop, dine, hang out, etc etc etc. Living in SoCal and having a nice family day trip, this plaza is definitely a destination that highly recommend to everyone.
William M
There is a little of japan in here, afternoon it's gets crowdy. Lots of japanese food, and small market. Only thing no music outside
Jennifer Alfelor-Baxa
What a great experience. If you're interested in peaking into the Japanese culture, stop by here and try some of the authentic food and products. My 2 daughters love anime and sanrio characters. There are many shops that offer anime and sanrio products that are at competitive in prices. So look around and enjoy the day.
Lisandro Gutierrez
One of the most iconic and gorgeous places you could find in Los Angeles. You could anything japanese related ranging from foods such as ramen, bento boxes, sushi, japanese treats and much more. You can also find lots of wonderful souvenirs to take home and keep on display or use for everyday life. And the ambiance is always calm any time of day you go.
B Kono
This place is so cute and fun to visit for the day. Lots of treats to try and cute shops for souvenir shopping. Great for kids and adults into kawaii stuff.
Daniel Block
It’s a really fun place to walk around, but very crowded. There are all sorts of restaurants (mainly ramen and sushi) and shops selling all sorts of anime, nintendo, cosplay and hello kitty merchandise.
John Anderson
Gorgeous little area, really feels nice and momentarily whisks you away
Daniel O. Morales
I didn't know this place was here before but now that I know I'm gonna go more often.
There's so much u can find in this small but cozy place, from delicious ramen to authentic fresh sushi but not only that, u see.. the Japanese culture is beautiful and there's so much to explore.
I definitely recommend visiting and just enjoy the atmosphere with the family or friends.
Suluhishi Heru
Interesting little slice of culture right here in DTLA! Beautiful shops and tasty treats!
Jung Lee
This is a good parking structure for visiting the shops inside Japanese Village. Some of the stores such as OOmasa validate parking here and not at the other parking lot on the other side. Also Joe's Parking does not have validated parking from most of the stores.
Suzanne M
It's nice place to go even when the shops are closed, but I prefer going here with a coffee.
Sam K
These is no public restroom here ..that really sucks. Nice place with interesting shops and nice decor.
Liam Best
Passed through during my stay in LA and wished I had more time to drink in the experience. Arrived in the area around 5pm but after check in to our hotel etc it was more like 6pm. The area is more geared toward afternoon/evenings as most shops open around midday til late (8-10pm) but it's got such a great atmosphere about the place. Even the birds are friendly.
Sam
I always enjoy coming here. I love Japanese popular media and a lot of stores here are catered to that. The stores can be a bit small and cramped especially during the weekends or afternoons when it's most popular but it's always a good time. From food to merchandise I believe there's always a bit for everyone.
Jae “Khammer” Hahn
Cool vibes and great atmosphere! Makes you feel like you maybe in Japan!
Phillip Snover
I'd say that this place is as close to the real Japan as you can get to here in California tons of great shops, restaurants and history for everybody to enjoy.
Jimbo Lee
Nice place to stroll around, many shops
Annette Goh
Great place for Japanese gifts and food.
Will S
Lots of restaurants and stores. Interesting place to visit and shop. Can be very crowded because it is very popular. Every kind of Japanese restaurant you could want. Oriental market, stuffed animal store. Shoe store and tennis shoe repair store.
Gian Caterina
Even though it may seem like a small area to walk around, Little Tokyo is a must see when visiting Downtown LA...and an even better spot to have lunch. We ate at Ramen Maruya and we of course ordered the Ramen, which was so creamy and full of flavor that it's a must when you visit. I love my food with a little kick to it so I ordered the spicy Tonkatsu, but the original Tonkatsu is just as amazing.
Louis Rosas
If you love Japanese Culture, this is your little slice of Japan right here in the City of Angels. Here you will find dozens of unique shops and restaurants you will want to visit time and time again. We've been going here for the last 20 years and it is still our favorite place to be especially at night or during Obon, Sakura Maturi, and Nisei Week.
Jesse Hernandez
Ahh this place is amazing! Great stores and food to eat! Things are kind of expensive though and I feel like their aim was more for tourists.
Allison Corona
They make you wait outside in the hot son so come prepared with water and maybe an umbrella for shade. Its a Covid precaution so dont stir trouble at the store.
Sasi Noina
Japanese style area, good food, goood place to short stay here but many homeless at night.
Heinrich H
this is a pretty typical Asian-flavored market / mall thing. it's not bad but it could be better.
Lauren Quebedeaux
Got a boba, bought some sweet treats, shopped in many of the stores - it was perfect for an afternoon/evening on the weekend!
Rodrigo Cortés
So many interesting options of japanese restaurants and groceries , the problem is that is a little bit too small
Sergio Zermeno
My wife and I always come to Little Tokyo for the food, shopping and the History of Little Tokyo and don't forget the Japanese American museum that is really awesome.
Elio Raineri
Absolutely one of my favorite places in LA. A little piece of Tokyo with good restaurants, shops, bakery and a market. I love it!
Strawbery San
It’s a MUST place to visit while u’re in LA...lots of good food...I ate At Maruya...good service, great staffs and wonderful food there!!! U guys need to check it out!!!! Empress_0f Dreams
I loved it!!! If you go there you have to try the food but mostly you have to go to the ANIME JUNGLE!!!
Peter R.
Great place to wander for every delicious Japanese food imaginable at great prices, not to mention some of the more unique cultural aspects like anime and cos play on display.
Natasha Shokouhi
This is a great area with lots of options for wonderful food and shopping. Pretty large plaza with everything you could possibly want. If I could, I would just walk around and eat something from every single food establishment.
Parking is easy, plenty of parking lots and garages in the area.
They do events and such in the area as well, but the days I come happen to be when there is nothing going on, and I actually prefer it. Less people, more space for me to explore.
Family friendly, every tourist has to visit at least once!
Christopher Lawson
Nice atmosphere to shop for Japanese products and eat Japanese food.
Dark ASMR
Thus place is super cute for a date, some pictures. Definitely try the food so yummy. Some shops are gone due to the pandemic BUT new shops have opened as well. Popular during the weekends
Amey Deorukhkar
Hidden gem near downtown LA. Really good restaurants and some shopping.
Grace Adylynn
Great place to spend a few hours shopping and dining. There were three stores that sell stuffed toys and figurines that I can remember. And about four places to eat. We went to the restaurant with the sushi served on conveyor belts. Loved it!
Caroline Wadge
Beautiful place to just walk around. We went in the evening and it was a great time! There was karaoke in the center of the plaza and tons of interesting little shops and restaurants.
David Pulido
Cute little area in Littlr Tokyo with plenty of eating amd shopping establishments. Went mid day on Mother's Day. Seemed like a good safe area to explore.
DeAndre Watkins
Whether it's gifts for family and friends, food or just love the Japanese culture. This is the perfect place to visit when visiting Los Angeles. With ample restaurants and gift shops you'll find something for everyone. If you're fans of anime or into the kawaii lifestyle there's a shop for you as well.

Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles that has everything Japanese, from stylish fashion to cute anime t shirts. Lots of great restaurants and unique dessert place surrounding the area. It's a perfect weekend outing for those who is visiting the city.
Foo Ronnie
Parking is a bit pricey. Lots of Japanese restaurant. If you love Japanese food, you may explore.
Nirali Patel (Niroo Biroo)
The Japanese Village Plaza is so nice and enjoyable to walk around. It has many small anime shops and restaurants. The shops are small businesses. There are some Japanese ice cream places, sushi restaurants and ramen restaurants in the area. The entire village is walking distance and have a lot of people walking around.
Leon Situ
Nice place.. but be aware of where you are walking to at night.. just a few blocks away you may feel like you are in the middle of some third world country with all the people sleeping on the streets.
Corey Jacobson
A neat place to stop and visit if you're in the area, a ton of cool places including the oldest mochi store in the county!!!
Viktor Toth (revtoth)
This is an amazing place for those who appreciate Japanese culture and food. It's located in downtown LA, but somewhat separated from it because of its unique structure.
Claude W
Great fun place, good food and k-pop music sold here. Would be better if they had public restrooms available.
Briggidy Stewart
Always a relaxing and fun place to visit. Arrive early and expect long lines at the restaurants but take your time to browse
Sophie Bunny
Very nice place to explore and shop! Friendly people, live karaoke, and plenty of things to do. Although parking is very hard to find.
Meghan Finley
Fun place to hang out with friends. I love trying all the different foods and treats that are everywhere. Just know that a lot of the souvenirs and the like are pricey.
Elmer Escalante
Awesome place for weebs and otaku want to eat good food and shop for anime merchandise then this is it.
Jamie Farnsworth
Stayed at the Miyoka hotel next to here. Fun busy happening place
Kama Lopez
Amazing atmosphere, love all the food and shops
mofo A
A nice little piece of Japanese culture and I mean small but very pleasant
Alex AlChwikani
So much to do. So much to eat. My favorite place in LA!
Jaime Andrade
Little Tokyo is a place where you can enjoy the history, food, art & boutiques or just walk around watching people
Jay B
Where do I begin? If the homeless don't get you the lack of restrooms will, but it has a variety of shops and places to eat and that is a plus.......... No Public Restrooms anywhere !!!!
Abigail Carvajal
This area is always fun. Full of amazing stores and delicious food.
Alan Wong
Very nice environment with strong Japanese culture. Try Kura Japanese restaurant. Beware of long wait, or download their app and make reservation!
Jared Lamb
For anyone interested in Japanese culture, I would definitely recommend this plaza. The store has a wide selection of Japanese foods, and the various shops have some nice knickknacks, from both the traditional and modern Japanese cultures.
Hazel Kazooskis (Indie Queen)
Yo! They have an awesome Bandai store here now. They just opened in October.
Isaac Martinez
I really like this location. It feels like a mall. They have a bunch of eateries and Japanese fashion. Hard to find parking take a Uber if you plan to drink. Cool for families in the afternoon and cool date night late evening. My favorite is the shoes stores, food and the comic con.
Tran Chung
There have restaurants, souvenir shops, but they ara small and expensive
Ken Mann
Always a treat. All manner of Japanese food (Shabu Shabu, Teriyaki, Ramen, pastries, Mochi ice cream and of course Sushi). An excellent Japanese market and clothing stores, it's a wonderful mix of treats. Best parking is a multi-story garage with their entrance on Central between 1st and 2nd Sts. Some merchants in the Village validate.
Jose Hernandez
Good atmosphere to walk around and enjoy free entertainment and the food is great, so much variety to choose from, I love it!!
Chris Karjanis
Consistently cleaned Little Tokyo gem, fun to walk through w many restaurants.
Julie Schap
I’m always here. I’m a biased patron. I’ll say nothing bad about this place.
Jamison Stone
Really fun time walking on Japanese Village Plaza with my wife. We got sushi one day, and Okeonomiyaki the next. Fun little shops and a good Japanese grocery store, too. The architecture is interesting, and the stores all have some flavor and flair. Great dining and cultural sights. Its not that large, but still highly recommended.
Jair Prieto
This area is a nice tourist attraction if you're in the downtown LA area. This area has many authentic dining authentic options, I'd recommend the ramen shop across the street.
Brandon Martabano
So many great places to check out and see. Shopping, dining, overall decor. Worth spending some time walking around. Spent a few days here overall on our last trip
G. Valencia
Clean, beat, beautiful and crowded. No body respect the social distance! We leave soon...
Max Hochman
Don't go on the weekends unless you like losing your friends in crowds
Rory Wang
A very happy and enjoyful place. There’s people shopping and eating on the street. There’s a karaoke place and you can watch people sing there. It’s not tiring to spend there whole day.
Hmoob Lee
Most stores don’t open until 12pm noon. Kinda sucks. Very popular place for people who loves anime cause most shop has anime characters
Darya Shestakova
Nice place to see. Japanese restaurants with good food, and shops with Japanese and Korean goods for very good prices.
Daniel Duck
Plenty of top shelf ramen. Very crowded during COVID so didn't explore the mall.
Sheila Yee
It’s always super busy so be prepared to wait in lines especially during the weekends. Fun place to be if you want to get out of the house. By lots of places to eat.
T T
I love this place. The stores are fun to visit, I enjoyed the grocery store too. Great restaurants and beautiful decor. Always a place I'll visit when I'm in town
dan Ochoa
Honestly can't say enough good things about this place. There is so much to do and see, that you can spend several hours or more here just browsing. And all the food options will have your head spinning. So many delicious foods to try and drinks to drink. This has become a regular destination for me and the family.
Stephanie Barajas
i love it, such a lovely place get yummy food.
see bit of anime and cute adorable things. definitely a fun place to stop by to de stress with friends and get a good yummy meal or just look at cute stuff
Nadia Ramirez
Great for shopping, people watching and enjoying food
Lindsey Carole
I enjoy walking around here and visiting the shops. I also really love the photobooths, but it appears only one is maintained. For LA it's never been too crowded on days I've gone. Parking has only been a hassle once.
Tyler Laliberte
My wife and enjoyed our time here at the village plaza, the food was great and the shops were clean. The plaza is a bit small, but that just means everything is within walking distance, including the Japanese American National Museum (which was unfortunately closed due to COVID during my visit). While this place is a bit touristy and crowded on the weekends it offers a great couple of hours of entertainment.
Johnathan Prentice
Fun experience with lots to do and great shopping.
Ringo Fung
The only big problem is don't have any public restrooms here.
Max Chen
Dope place to checkout, definitely more lively that. Chinatown unfortunately, it is fun and full of Japanese food, you can also find hobby shops in the little Tokyo mall beside it.
Jason Dyba
A few cool shops and places to grab food. Not terribly large, but decent
Matt Chan
Nice shops and good restaurants. Worth checking out.
Tyeesha Bradley
LOVED this place!! I wish we had one in Indianapolis. There are so many restaurants to choose from. And if you love cute stuff you are in the right place!!
Susana Tapalla
Took away a star cause restrooms are hard to find. We had to wait almost an hour to use the restroom at a Starbucks who had their restrooms open to public.
Very neat shopping and restaurant center. We went on a weekend so it was very crowded.
Mary Brown
Fun atmosphere, delicious food options, great shopping. Our teenagers FAV place to spend the day in LA.
Jose Lopez
It's a great stop full of restaurants, shopping stores and Japanese style markets. It's great for a walk and just explore, however recently I have noticed it get really packed especially on weekends. If you do go out to eat do expect a waiting period in most restuarants here.
Bubba Pogogogo (Bubba Pogogogo)
Small shops with Anime plushies, figures, Godzilla stuff and even Ultraman, some retro stuff.
Absolutely worth visiting for the food, sooo many restraunts they're all soo good. Check the museum nearby too
Jer king
Very good and so much shop. Just need help with clean up.
Claudia Levine
Is a great little plaza with a bast choice of asian food. Just be prepared with your vaccination card or your negative covid test og no more than 3 days (72 hours) old and ID too...or you are not going to be able to dine in at any of the restaurants there. Prices are a little higher since is in the downtown area.
Kevin “Sirhaian” Leroy
One of my favorite areas in LA. It is clean and beautiful, filled with great shops, most being oriented towards anime and cute-things lovers. Lots of great photo and selfies opportunities, it is however often crowded, and most shops and restaurants require a decent wait time. Highly recommend if you're nearby, even if just for a nice little walk in a beautiful and unique area of LA.
Michael Miyoshi
09/11/2021. Parking was FULL, but the attendant opened a Parking space next to the entrance gate. It was a hot, humid Saturday afternoon. Crowded with people. Line's just to enter some of the eateries and gift shop's. Looked around for less than an hour. $6.00 was our Parking total.
Joc Robles
It's great place to visit with friends or by yourself. Plenty of places to get something to eat. Bakeries with fresh pastry both sweet or savory. In the plaza there's a market to pick up snacks and even sushi done daily.
Kiyoe Lunet
An awesome weekend outing experience, surrounded by plenty of small local shops and restraunts makes it worth coming back to time after time. Just when you think you've seen it all you always managed to find a new shop or restaurant hidden elsewhere, with plenty of holiday celebrations this place is always busy! Lots of historic and modern businesses melding together to bring the old and new into a wonderful balance. The only downside is how hard covid hit some places sadly, and almost everything closes by 8pm minus the food stops.
Alexandra Kurth
Clean, well kept.
Lots of people brought their dogs to hang out.
The culture in this area is to wear masks inside and outside (pretty much all the time).
Keep in mind that stores start to shutter around 6:30pm so come in the late afternoon if you wanna hit all the shops.
Be prepared for lines outside the shops. They all have their capacity clearly marked at the entrance and wait time varies.
Some shops will require you to use hand sanitizer to enter.
Evany Guzman
Just note ever since covid there are no public restrooms. Most of the starbucks have restrooms but there are long lines and eventually they will band public restrooms but who knows other than that I like little tokyo
Mike Stevens
Had great time with my new friend in hand we ate and enjoyed each other's company while discussing various current events. A bit crowded but not too bad since it is a 3 day holiday. Overall it was a great experience.
Chris V
One of my favorite places in LA to visit, a must go!

Vannah McCarthy
Had a lot of fun in the shops and amazing food!
Nate Thuli
Cool little spot! Pretty crowded but worth the visit
Omar
Lots of good food options and a hotel conveniently located 2 minutes from the plaza. Family mart across the street. What more could you ask for
Liz
Nice place to walk and eat. If you like sushi this is the place to be. You will have many restaurants to choose from. Went on a sunday and was filled with people. We even went into a store and bought Japanese candy and a naruto key chain.
Randy Kim
Beautiful small plaza. Traditional modern take on Little Tokyo. Nice little shops and ice cream stores
Cait
Every vendor had great customer service and the food was amazing
Kim E
So many shops with cute tchotchkes, beauty care products, and restaurants! There's also an indoor mall part filled with hobby shops and an actual cosplay shop that even sells worbla.
Paige M
This was a wonderful place to visit. Really different and cool shops and restaurants. Enjoyed the clothes shopping options. Sanrio shop is really adorable. The mall next door was also nice. A little crowded on weekends
Jane Betancourt
Clean and quiet area with a great atmosphere. There is no public bathrooms around this area though.
Ahti Suomisto
A Japanese supermarket and a great selection of reasonably priced restaurants and a common seating area. At MISASA restaurant I had the BEST teriyaki chicken EVER!
Jeffrey Murphy
Enjoyed checking out the various little shops located in and around the plaza. Plenty of shops focused on aspects of Japanese cultural heritage.
oshane johnson
So wonderful. Definitely restaurants and other stores to check out. The vibe definitely was a fun and relaxing one. Going back soon so I can get the full experience.

FREDERICK LANG
Great food I come here when I want a special treat!
Carlos Romero
Nice cozy spot in the middle of dowtown. Great food and sourvenir stores all around.
Berserk
Such a fun and nice atmosphere. This place gets really packed on the weekends so plan ahead or come down on a weekday if you want to avoid long lines to some of the popular stores/restaurants here. Love it here!
Owen Evans
Good for walking and enjoying ambiance. Occasional busker playing music. Fun stores filled with dated Japanese product and counterfeit stuff. Dont recommend actually eating anywhere here unless you wanna wait 45 minutes and constantly have your neck breathed on.
Kevin Cheung
Too crowd during weekend and remember to wear face masks
Ninja Vanish
A little small and shops had lines due to restrictions so go early. Found some cool stores on the side and across the street. Restaraunts were so-so and wish the Ramen place across the street was open. Be ready.....no public restrooms!! None.... if u need one go across the street to Starbucks and get a coffee to use there's. Otherwise unless you eating at a restaraunt you are out of luck. Truthfully like the japan place in San fran better
Asherlev Tan
Great place to hang out with the family… ramen, sushi, takoyaki, red bean cake!!! Oh how i miss eating mochi here(the store who sells mochi is closed already) they have place for gundams display models and anime store inside the building. I would recommend the place to hang out and go on a date with your significant other!
BRANDON YOON
nice place to visit but nothing really stunning other than karaoke and paper light fixtures in the air.
Dzmitry Mik
If you want to dive into Japanese culture but you do not want to travel to Japan, please visit that place and enjoy Japanese kitchen and hospitality.
Anna Kirby
It's endless fun and there's so much to do! One of the best places to eat, shop and relax~☆
Santiago Perez
Live music on weekends lots of foid to pick from and fun place to spend a good time
Samantha Bielman
It's kind of a bummer that you don't really see a whole lot of Japanese merchandise there. For example, there was a donut shop there that is very westernised. Having said that, it still offers a lot of choices for food but I'd highly recommend you to try walking outside the plaza. I think you'll find a lot of more out there. Good luck!
Celina Paternostro
Always a good time.
Daniel Hernandez
A place for tourists and city folk alike. Your gonna find something to do here. The place is photogenic enough and there are shops galore. You have restaurants with different food, gift shops with authentic clothing, and obviously shops for all you anime obsessions. You also have a grocery shop, and a place for hair products too. There are benches to sit down on nice shade. Overall it's a calm but exciting spot in the middle of the bustling city. Hope you come and visit cause it's worth it.
Vernon Clement
Wonderful experience ! But it's busy on Saturday ! So you might want to arrive about 11am ! As the shops get really busy but it's a nice Saturday outing if you want to travel to far.
Vicky T
A cute place in LA to find authentic Japanese stuff
Natalia Lee
I love the Japanese Village Plaza. It's a great spot to grab a fast bite, shop at some great stores, and just be in the atmosphere. You can see all type of cool looking people there too!
Evan Kus
Enjoyed my visit. Lots of interesting shops and food.
Gilbert Ceballos
Nice place to shop and get cute things ^___^ and nice selection of food. I recommend cafe dulce or whatever its called. I had a breakfast burrito, their bacon donuts and their awesome Vietnamese coffee! All good and tasty. Will be back! Ps watch your kids folks! I saw an 80 year old man smoking meth out in the open.
David Huynh
An adorable lively place to enjoy some Asian culture
美琴
The Japanese Village Plaza is a beautiful location with many great stores and restaurants that offer you the great Japanese quality in products you'd expect. The architecture is very nice and is similar to places you'll find in Japan. If only Little Tokyo incorporated more of the classic Japanese buildings style to the surrounding area, but as it this Plaza is wonderful.
Lone Wolf
It is a nice place I wish they could rebuild and have more shops.
Brad Bandit (Imperialist Iced Tea)
Traffic has died down significantly in the Japanese village. I last came during the Valentine's day bustle, and it was hard to even get into a store. But at nighttime the place is a lot less congested. Though not a lot is open past 7 PM, it's still a nice stroll and the restaurants that remain open are always worth checking out.
Eliseo Tenorio
Wonderful Indian food and atmosphere.

So much to look at and so much fun! Accessible public restroom would make it 5 stars.
J Maria Navarrete
Great little village where you can enjoy a nice lunch, dinner or just a cup of coffee. Cute stores with Japanese souvenirs. Bring the whole family
Magenta Tabby
Literally the only cleanest place in L.A. The shops are cool and so are the food which looked delicious. The shops mostly consists of collectibles from anime to video games and then gifts from Japan like the lucky cat, kimonos, and so forth. All the workers there are nice.
Lamalord Lala
Nice little area with lots of japanese restaurants, food, and other shops. They also have a lot of Japanese collector cards and knick knacks in the basement of the parking garage. We had some takoyaki (fried balls with octopus bits inside).
Lots of people when we visited during the weekend so its probably better to visit weekdays. Parking is mainly in parking garages around the area and some lots a bit further.
All in all a great area to visit
Edgardo Magana
Love it!!! My boys and I always have a great time at the Japanese Village Plaza!! They always fine what ever they are looking for at a good price. It's a two hour drive for us, but so worth it!! The only downside, no public restroom. Other than that, you will have fun.
Brendan Schmitz
A great place for exploring Japanese foods and culture. Was much better before Covid-19 like most places so expect long lines to enter stores. Don't let that discourage you from going though. I love the grocery store here.
Yenylu Aguilar
The place is absolutely amazing. The food there is very great to eat, sweets there are honestly good! My favorite places are going down to the anime shops and seeing all the cool stuff, another place I like is the small sweet shop that sells steamed buns. Bread and smoothies there are good. 10/10 would recommend. :)
Helios
Here the clothing shops aren't for me, the merchandise shops are a bit weak if you are looking for non Shonen related item. But, the food is amazing. I recommend Hachioji as a ramen shop and TOT as an izakaya. Try The hot sake at TOT, it's like alcoholic warm milk in the best way.
Bae Banxx
I love this spot!! My husband and I go all the time, we love it. Perfect if you love japanese culture, and want to spend and afternoon relaxing, shopping, and taking it all in! It's right outside downtown, and there's public transit near by.
William Hou
Great place, lots of restaurants and shops.
Aryeh Brami
Fun place just too crowded
Jose Cardenas
One of thee best places if you love anime and sushi also I really love how there's so much diversity and art all around that area the last book store and mocha and close by also
Michael Gi-Sei
Been here twice since arriving in the US for a holiday, great for foodies looking for something unique and manga and anime fans for merchandise. It's superb.
Soyoon Kum
Bakeries, dessert shops, gift shops, and restaurants. You can feel like in Japan
Esteban Arenas
I absolutely love this place. Wonderful walking through, Wonderful people, wonderful food! It's nice to go too for figures if you collect them since they sometimes are actually cheaper to by them there.
Julian Sanchez
Authentic atmosphere, good restaurants.
Stephanie Mitchell
When visiting Los Angeles it's a must you come here I'll send it food clothing atmosphere
jose luis Galeana
Lots of nice stores, with variety of anime and all that kind stuff
Kevin Jones
I sat on a bench for two minutes to offer my dog water. It was hot day. The area was busy with commerce. I visited my bank and left the area, but i could see that neighborhood businesses in the area were thriving with support from the community.
Tri Nguyen
Got my car window smashed in thr street right by the temple. Please park in garage
StormTrooper Commander
This place is truly breathtaking, calm, and quiet on weekdays. Perfect for strolling around and taking everything in.
Maddy Paddy
Great night life with plenty of restaurants and bars.
Melissa Herrera
Awesome location with tons if food options, karaoke, vegan donuts, market, and gaming.
regis kwong
Great vibe here. This place is a great place to discover Downtown LA and Japanese culture. Many unique Japanese shops and restaurants. Good place to hang out with friends and enjoy a meal.
For the people want to get Japanese Cartoon character figures aka Anime, this is the place to be without going to Tokyo’s anime Akihabara district. When I was there, I saw many shops similar to those in Akihabara selling all kinds of anime but with long lines. I didn’t know there are so many anime and Yodobashi fans here in LA.
Besides anime, this village is an awesome place to sample some of the finest Japanese cuisine. So many choices of Japanese food here. My favorite is the Suehiro Cafe serving old style Japanese food and dishing out friendly services. The udon here is outstanding.
Shopping is another attraction here. The Plaza has all kinds of shops where you can find hard to find Japanese products. I have been looking for cups for steaming custard egg with a lid for a long time. I was able to find them in one of the shops who had several styles that fit my needs.
Parking is plenty. But please park in the parking lot on 1st and 2nd as the shops will validate.
Mr.E
Nice cultural village block in downtown Los Angeles. The heritage museum is across the street and the plaza has fun shops and restaurants. A good amount to do packed into a small space.
Corey Chambers
Fantastic Japanese style shopping and walking Promenade. Was better before they turned los angeles into a giant loony bin with exploding crime.
Serina Gee
Pretty decent crowd (sat night), meaning there may be waits given the limited in person capacity due to Covid. Still, if you manage to find parking, it's nice to walk around with a boba/ice cream and check out the shops. Most people are still wearing their masks outdoors.
Nicolas Fuentes
If you're into anime, toy collections and manga, this is a must go place!
Orlando Salgado
Everyone should visit here at least once during their trip and experience a bit of Japanese culture. The desserts are great and every ramen place around the Plaza served great food, guaranteed genuine Japanese ramen.
Sarah Evans
Enjoyed it, lots of shops. Great food
Moogle Love
They have a lot of awesome stores. Unfortunately because of covid the experience was not the best. All stores had extra long lines. No bathrooms unless your eating at a restaurant. This is my first time in the area even though i live in a neighboring city. Though i didn't get to go in much stores i enjoyed the walk. I got some boba, steam buns and a yummy cheese cake treat. Ill be back in the area when restrictions life more.
James Helm
I've been going to the Japanese Village for many years and have seen it evolve from a quaint place to get Japanese food to the current trendy hot spot. From outdoor karaoke to cosplay outings, it has it all. Not to mention the delicious variety of food. It's also a good place for lunch if you work in DTLA. Viva Japangeles.
Dustin Ryan
This is a must go place for anyone who enjoys Japanese culture. I have never seen anywhere in the U.S. with this many Japanese stores. Multiple anime stores, game stores, and lots of Japanese foods to choose from. There is also a Japanese hotel in the the plaza that I would say is a necessity if you want to visit the Japanese Plaza. It is very safe for being in downtown LA. Lots of guards everywhere in the area. Just make sure you don't wander too far out of the area. There aren't any Japanese stores out of the the area and it very quickly changes into Skid Row, one of the most dangerous areas in LA. You have nothing to worry about as long as you stay alert and stay in the general area. Don't go past 2nd street.
Khai Tran
Great place to visit. Good restaurants. But somehow no public restrooms.
Rossy Z
Absolutely amazing. Very fun walking around amd window idow shopping. Plenty to eat and snack on. Cute anime stores and Japanese items can be purchased. There's parking on the street but I recommend you park inside three structures so you have enough time to look around
Karina Gamboa
Love going here, but lately I've been noticing more homeless around the area, and some have been kind of threatening. One got in my face for no apparent reason, and believe it or not but one has purposefully jumped in front of my car. I try to go here as little as possible now, but I hope with time things will get better. In all honestly, it hasn't been worth going here on the weekends because it's just so crowded and especially with the lines. I'm going to try to go during a weekday and see if that's better. Again, I still love this place.
Andrea Kemp
A really nice place to eat and shop.
lulululu lulu
Always something new to see, and fun events happening. It's lively on the weekends, and has so many restaurants and cute little stores. It also has the best dessert shops! honeymee is here (go here if you like honey flavored treats!), and also the bakery is delicious (I got a frappe, apple cheese cake, and pudding here)! Definitely recommend going on weekends to feel the lively atmosphere. Great for friends, couples, and family of all ages!
Marvin Hernandez
Parking is terrible but tue village is nice to visit.
Soapy Cheesecake
Amazing! So many anime stores. If you’re an anime fan, or a fan or Japanese culture, you will love it! I
promise.
Lisa
The food at the Korean Kitchen Hibach BBQ was good.
Sheryl Lyn Costa
I love this plaza. All the stores and restaurants are fantastic. It only loses one star because of the cleanliness. Inside the restaurants and stores are clean, but the plaza itself is filthy. I wish I was cleaner. It literally feels like a rundown gas station restroom. It would be a better experience if the plaza itself is clean.
Mariana Cueto
It's a nice place to go, I enjoy going at night but you can't go too late. Most of the places closes early, you can find really good restaurant and a huge variety of dishes 😋 …
Buddy Globetrotter
Nice place. A bit little but we can find a lot of things : japanese cosmetic products, bakery, Food.
Moe Said
It's a nice little place smacked in the middle of downtown LA . Very accessible by the metro transit system. Area is full of Japanese themed restaurants and gift shops but beware parking is limited. It will be a problem on weekends and holidays with overcrowding. Expect long waits at restaurants since LA recently opened up in-store dining again.
Jenny Montano
Still plenty of shops and restaurants available despite recent covid-19 economic related closures. Got some delicious dumplings and sweet red bean buns. The market also had hard to find products.
Warren Wilson
It's pretty and there's a cool atmosphere when you're actually there but the homeless kinda ruined it for me with all the tents. California needs to fix their housing economy if they want any progress it's just sad.
Marlo Alvarado
Great place to see a little bit of japan.
Ken Lee
If we talking about the plaza in general. It’s pretty bad. Let’s be honest, long lines every week, crazy amount of people, hard to find space and worst of all the food isn’t that great here. Venture a bit outside of the plaza and it’s more promising. Thanks but no thanks, except Nijiya Market that’s worth visiting.
Honey B
Great atmosphere but I've had way better sushi. Don't get me wrong still pretty good. And they have some good lunch specials if you're ever around give them a try for yourself
Alice Paz
It was pretty to walk around but we ended up coming in the afternoon and seems that all the shops close at 6 pm. I'm pretty sure it's due to covid but it's still a very cool place to visit.
Raju Dey
Nice authentic sushi also are fantastic here....
Andy Barrales
Nice bustling little section filled with all kinds of stores. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into Asian culture.
bree camberos
Loved it here. Cute short walk with small shops and places to eat. Very cute shops you can take your time here. Can get very packed but still a nice place to walk.
Carol Macias
Nine of us had to have Japanese food at Oomasa at Little Tokyo last week. Every one has to eat out side because of covid. We enjoyed the people and the music. After dinner we bought masks with beautiful fabrics as the vendors outside of their shops. After being alone for so long it was a great afternoon and evening.
Gilbert Rivera
Great selection of shops and stores. Lots of stores to choose from. Every shop or store I went into was really friendly.
Cole Peterson
I love coming here. There are many shops here, especially shops that sell anime related stuff. The food options are limited and a bit pricey. There are several parking structures in the area.
Melissa S
Very fun place! Shops, clothing boutiques, cos play stores, food vendors, restaurants and bookstores.
Enjoyed eating sushi here with family and going to the bookstores to look at manga.
John Brooke
A+!!! When this area has recovered and everything reopens it needs to be a stop on the bucket list for sure.
Mikaela V
This place is an all time favorite tourist spot! If you love Japanese culture and food, this is THE SPOT to go!
B.Blair
Came here for the first time with a High school friend back in 2014. I've been coming back every now and then for more. The surrounding restaurants and stores have such fun experience and charm to them when it comes to checking out Japanese culture. There are security guards that monitor the place to keep things order ly all the time which makes me feel safe.
Emmanuelle Delatorre
Super cool. Food is awesome
Amanda Freyre
Love this area. Went and visited with my mother and had an amazing time. Lots of people and it's so busy. But it's extremely worth it to visit. We went to the revolving sushi bar and it was awesome (check in an hour before you want to eat). So much fun! My mother had been to tokoyo before and she said it reminded her of her trip!
Diego Garcia
Love coming to little tokyo. Long lines to some stores which is expected with the ongoing pandemic.
Luis Ordoñez
A little piece of Japan! Always clean and you can find good prices at the Japanese stores, also can grab a snack or a diner it’s always a good idea
Edward Knueppel Jr.
My son is in love with Japanese culture, so we ended up in Little Tokyo every day of our trip. They have tons of cool shops and a lot of great places to get authentic food. There was even live music at night and it was just a really cool atmosphere.
Eliz Howell
Just beautiful. I am so grateful that during this time where we have all been quarantined and stuck in the house that they have actually opened their doors to outside dining and some of the little shops have put their products out on the sidewalk. Excellent excellent excellent. I highly recommend you getting out of the house and coming for a visit.
Joe Fi
This was my first time visiting Japanese Village Plaza. If your into Anime and the Japanese culture than this place is for you. Most business were open during Covid (04/2021) places werent that busy and if it was busy that's because they limit customer from entering the stores. There is also many food spot around. If your looking for beer or somewhere to drink, you might have to look elsewhere. We couldn't find any places to drink, not sure if we looked thoroughly. Other than that, I love the architect of the structure of building.
Snowen Tapia
Nice place those who want anime
Victoria Warcraft
I absolutely love the culture and cluster of history, shops, and eateries here. Please support Little Tokyo, it's family-owned establishments and rich culture during this pandemic! Businesses are welcoming and friendly, restaurants are offering take-away and distanced eating options (and the food is as delicious as ever!) Enjoy your time here and bask in the warmth of Little Tokyo.
EJ Gutierrez
I enjoy my visit everytime I come, but there are too many people walking around without a mask, so if you're coming for the first time just be wary. it gets pretty crowded so be warned. Otherwise have fun!
Nellie Zamora
Have been coming here for decades. Love it! Sad to see some shops not make it thru covid. There are still some shops open, and places to eat. Check out Anime Jungle. There is also a Sanrio store.
Peter Griffith
Lots of places to eat with a culturally inspired vibe. Many chairs and places to relax, wonderful sites to see and an ambient vibe. There's a lot to do around here would like to come back and try all the spots to eat and shop around at the surrounding shoe stores and cloths spots.
Anant Tirodkar
You feel as if you are in Japan. All shops have nice handcrafted items.
Mark Storie (BrokenStorie)
Cool Shops and great food options!
hannah oh
Cute place close early sadly..
Teresa Koecher
Take a stroll through the village, grab sushi and an ice cream and you can even make it a staycation with several hotels within the block. Packed with great shops and restaurants we make frequent daytrip here on the weekends. Exploring is fun, enjoy!
Stipe Lasić
I really nice & clean plaza with lots of Asian style stores and restaurants! We came here on a Saturday and it was a really nice time. This plaza is very clean and no homeless walking around like you will find in other parts of LA. There are many Asian stores to buy clothes, hello Kitty, and food. The restaurants are also really delicious but on a weekend you might wait a while. There are many places to sit in the shade and people watch. I enjoy coming here, it doesn't feel like your in downtown LA!
Kourage_wolf
It's clean and beautiful all around 🖤🖤🖤 my first time getting to explore the area actually and it was fun, I had a good time, can't wait to go there again. I'm really looking forward to it. …
Manu Mishra
Love the Japanese village and different shops and restaurant. The crowd and energy is always awesome. Sushi lovers paradise. Highly recommend Hama Sushi and of course the venerable Sushi Gen.
Sophia Bravo
Great place to see different cultures
Damian
This areas have very good Japanese restaurants and souvenirs shops. Its a good idea to go on the a week day especially with covid, and it will be a lot less crowded. Very good area too walk around and see what Japan looks like.
Kevin
There's always something to do here. From the Village Plaza to the surrounding areas of the Village, you'll find something unique and interesting to do. Definitely check out the Hobby Shop Jungle, just a ton of anime, manga, gaming, and cosplay material for all my weebs and weebets 😊 …
Chris G
Nice little village on the side of Miyako Hotel with plenty of restaurants and shops. Nice to relax and spend evening here.
Rick B.
Family-oriented! Great family location!
Alex guerrero
I love this little part of downtown LA, it might be just 3 block's long but it has so many cool little restaurants and shops to look at and enjoy a good meal, a friend and I took about 2 hours to walk around And experience the atmosphere, friendly, kind, calm atmosphere.
Luke Knapke
Very neat place. Fun little touristy thing that you can do. They have some good food places here and a bunch if places with live music. They also had a guy set up a karaoke stand where people could pay a few bucks to get up and sing. Pretty fun.
DaddyYatty
If you are a weeb, you'd love this place. Food, merch, community. They've got it all. Let your inner freak out. Go crazy, cosplay, eat food, take pictures, have fun.
Blake Sloan
One can walk through the small elbow-shaped street in 5 minutes. It doesn't demand much attention -- which is good. But for the hungry there are quite a few cozy bars and restaurants, a specialty market and a bakery.
Monkeys With Matches
If you’re a tourist visiting Los Angeles this is a top ten place to visit. I’ve been coming here for the last 30 years and it’s always fun and exciting. Come early and put your name down on the list for the best Shabu Shabu joint in LA or stop by the bakery for breakfast or any of the other great restaurants in the plaza. There’s also a fantastic Asian grocery store to marvel at some of the unusual items. Disneyland is fun but this is the real LA!
Erik Valencia
Came here on a Sunday and it was hella crowded, I thought to my self "I should come here on a not so active day, like Tuesday" manga shop is closed on Tuesday. Video game shop sells japanese imports of modern titles 10/10.
Rausten :3
This is a biased review. This is the second place I brought my girlfriend and we have come here many times after sharing wonderful memories. This is definitely a romantic place to explore and there is definitely a variety of places to dine at, all rising above each other than the last. RIP Curry House and Galaxy Hot Pot. You are sincerely missed 💔
