Reviews of Buckley's Tavern
Bryan Doyon
Great food and staff in a comfortable old farmhouse setting. Stopped in for dinner and sat at the bar and the staff was friendly and attentive. Enjoyed a drink and ordered dinner which was the chicken pot pie. Everything was hot and fresh and loaded with quality ingredients and great flavors. I decided to get a dessert and the coconut cake was an excellent choice with a large slice delivered to me. Everything was an excellent value with the flavor and quality and ample portions for the price. I would definitely stop in again when in the area and would visit more often if it were closer to home.

First time here for dinner. I expected more farm to table type dishes not frozen ingredients. The chicken pot pie base was good but you could smell frozen ingredients. The peas were freezer burnt the chef stopped by and said himself they were frozen. Linguini with clams was very good....they add bacon and tomato's to it I would opt out of them next time. Pretzels way overpriced for what you get. The spicy Thai noodle soup was spicy and good .

Based on the reviews I was looking forward to lunch here, but ended up disappointed. The space itself was lovely. The food was fine (although the chili lacked flavor and $8 to add chicken to a lunch salad is a bit much). The service, however was awful. The server brought my order then never came back to the table. Not to ask if I wanted anything else. Not to refill my beverage. Nothing. I had to flag them down to ask for my check. And even then they stopped at their other tables on their way to me. When they finally got to my table I was annoyed. It really brought down the entire experience. I guess I came on an off day, but I can't see myself going back.

Great spot for quality food, service, and atmosphere. Highly suggest the cheeseboard (best quality for the $) and the chicken salad and Turkey club. Walk around town after and enjoy the sights ☺️

Exemplary customer service, great menu options and always delicious! Mushroom soup is incredible (local mushrooms), clam chowder scratch made and entrees that melt in your mouth!
Traci Green
Excellent, kind service and the food was delicious. We tried the fried shrimp and it wasn't overcooked and lightly coated - great appetizer! The sauce was delicious. I also recommend the clam chowder soup. So authentically seasoned! And finally we had the burgers, medium - cooked to perfection well seasoned with crispy onions rings. And dessert ..just say yes to the apple cob! Atmosphere had a small town feel to it. It was cozy!

It has been some time since I was here last. Everything was great. Our server Erin was fantastic. Food was awesome. Definitely be back again.

I'll begin by saying that Buckley's gets four stars only because of all the years I have enjoyed going there to eat or drink. It is a staple in this area, greater Delaware and not just Centerville, but this visit was not up to par.
Keep in mind that this place is mainly a tavern (read: bar) so their food is really just upscale bar food. No points against them, the food is really good. Even this trip, the food was great.
However, we waited almost an hour to get our food. It was a busy Friday night and they might abs short staffed but still no excuse. We heard them tell multiple tables that the frier was backed up then that some stuff got burnt. Just not a great CX.
We started with Crab, Artichoke and Spinach dip, that was really good, although we could have used more pita. We also got Onion Rings, which despite being super late, were delicious and cooked perfectly.
My grandmother and my girlfriend both got Salads, that looked fine. the Crab Cake on my grandmothers salad was HUGE and pretty good (I tried it). I got The Atlantic Fluke Piccata. The fish was great but the portion was pretty small and the veggies and potatoes on the side were nothing to brag about. The waitress specifically recommended this dish but I would stick with Chicken or Steak when I go back.
You should definitely give this place a try when you are in the area. The bar is really cool. I don't drink anymore but I spent many late nights in the bar room and the ambience in there is top notch.

Wow! What a marvelous place, it was recommended by friends & we were so glad we made the 40 minute drive from home, because it was worth every bite! the food was delicious, I had the seared tuna for a starter, broiled crab cake for main & key lime tart for desert, hubby had the mushroom flatbread (I had a bite from every plate he ordered lol, so so yummy:), Bistro steak & warm Ghirardelli brownie sundae for desert - omg..it is to die for! Their services was impeccable our server was very friendly. We are happy with everything, we will definatley be back!! oh and their restrooms were super duper clean ;)

Nice place. Sat in back dining room which was open and had a nice atmosphere. Bar area looked awesome. Looking forward to going back. Food was average for the money but had a good selection. Disappointed that when we made reservations for 5 for brunch they failed to tell us the "brunch" menu ended when we were seated- 2pm. Thought we had until 3pm.
Carolann Mckinley
Reuben sandwich, turkey club and crab sliders were awesome !! Calamari was very tiny in size and tiny in portion and more fried breading than actual calamari. Very disappointing. The sauce was amazing ,though.
The staff were very friendly and caring.
I would definitely go back again.
Thomas Piñero
Great service. We loved the atmosphere, and our meals were delicious. We started off with exotic mushroom soup and calamari. I had the shrimp & grits and my wife had the crab cakes. We shared the lemon cheesecake for dessert. It was our first time visiting and we will definitely return.
Megan Stewart
I absolutely love this place! It’s super cozy and inviting! I recommend stopping at Buckleys for lunch, happy hour or dinner! I’ve never had a bad meal or drink here! My favorite dish is the shrimp and grits! Definite recommend! Enjoy!

We love this place. It's a perfect little neighborhood spot with nice ambiance and great outdoor seating options. It's great tavern food and overall the staff is awesome. I'm knocking off one star because we are continually disappointed and turned off by the host staff. For a restaurant that is very busy and consistently has to turn away customers, their hosts are immature and do not communicate well. Every time we walk in, I feel like I'm not welcome or supposed to be there. Everything is decision by committee and it takes 6 people to decide whether they can seat us. I think the host team, which is responsible for first impressions, would benefit from some training from more experienced staff.

Buckley's has so much character. If you love old buildings you will love it here. I spent a sunny afternoon in the bar area the day before the Superbowl. It was very busy and the clientele was in a good mood. Our food was good and the prices were fair. Staff were pleasant. Menu offers a good selection and there are options for everyone no matter their dietary needs I wish I could go every week!
Dave B
Food was amazing. Delicious cocktails. Dessert was great as well. Portions are big and everything was cooked perfectly. Service was great as well. Our group got Mac and cheese, penne vodka with salmon, chicken pot pie, steak and frites, among some other items that I can't remember. Everything was great, and had no complaints about any of it. Will definitely be returning to try other menu items! Obviously, with the quality of the food, the prices are going to reflect that. The only caveat I had was the parking lot. It's very small and tough to see at night time.

My lunch was delicious. Had the Quiche wit a Salad, alsoI ordered a mimosa, and the cobbler and a cup of coffee. My friend ordered the Chicken Pot pie, which I thought it was a little pricey ($22.95), but she said it was delicious and it was enough for two. I like Buckley's, it is my Bruch place to go. Never had an issue with the food or service.
Kristy Leary
Steak frites were to die for! Atmosphere was amazing, and their house Cab was amazing. I'm a server/bartender, and service was impeccable. I took my family after a day at the River Museum, and would take them every day if I could!
David Bonner
Awesome nachos with lots of toppings throughout the dish. Chicken Pot pie was thick and creamy with chunks of fresh juicy chicken. Strong drinks and delecious berry cheese cake. My wife loved the 3 options of gluten free deserts from Sweetopia.
Lou LoBosco
Hamburger was good and cooked as requested. Fries were nothing special.
Service was good but place was too crowded. Had to eat in the outside tent area or wait longer even though we had a reservation.
Susan Tighe Dremann
The food was absolutely delicious! Someone highly recommended that we eat there when they heard we were going to Winterthur. I'm very glad that we did. My husband agreed that it was a wonderful, unique meal!
Barbara Miller
Fantastic mushroom soup. Beet salad was the best I've ever had. Service was good despite being very crowded. Get a reservation before you come. Its always busy.
Stephen Bell
Great local tavern. Upscale food and atmosphere. Outdoor seating is good, plenty of heat. Make reservation if you are near lunch or dinner times. Elk burger was tasty. Get the mushroom soup. Recommend! 👍👍👍
Bryan Krepfle
Food is consistently fantastic here and a very nice and cozy place to saddle up for some good food. The reason I am providing 3 stars is for the staff performance. My wife and i recently dined here twice, both on Saturday evenings and both times at the bar. Our first experience, seemed we had to wait a really long time to order a drink and get food menus. I think we were asked once if we wanted another round. Second visit was more of the same, except had to ask for every round of drinks this time. My wife also caught what she thought was the bartender sighing and rolling his eyes as we entered the establishment. I tried to order an espresso martini but was told the espresso machine was broken. With this behavior I wasnt even sure to trust that, and more got the feeling the bartender just didnt want to make it. Im not sure if this place only expects to serve their regulars or what the problem is. We tip 20% or better. If this business wants to do better they should look at fixing the behavior of the customer-facing staff. The vibe my wife and I were catching was our money wasnt good there. Not sure if/when we will be back.
Kelly Hunter
What's not to love about this local tavern and eatery, maybe the parking when it's really busy. Otherwise, Buckley's has consistently good food, service, and offers a good time. So cozy when fireplaces are going.
Nancy Keel
If you're going through town, I highly recommend this restaurant. Great food, excellent service and a nice atmosphere. I can't wait to go back.
Brook W4BDP
This tavern was an enjoyable experience and with a different flair. It had a bar area to the left when you enter and some table seating. To the right through the door is more table seating and that is where we were seated. I had meatloaf that was served with mashed potatoes and gravy with fresh steamed veggies. The veggies were, yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, green beans and I'm probably forgetting something. It was seasoned and delicious. The meatloaf was soft and good. The mashed potatoes were real and had small chunks like I like it. The gravy was a bit salty for me but good. A friend had fish and chips. She loved it. The atmosphere was subdued and low lighting. The patrons ran the gamut from children to aging adults. I've included a few photos of the house from the 1800's. I would recommend this place, but it is a but pricey, not bad though.
Anna Daemon
We had a very enjoyable date night. We were super surprised by the generous cheese plate appetizer. Our meals were presented nicely but nothing outstanding.
Idan Ben Tovim
It's a good and decent place. The waitress was sooooo nice and whenever someone asked to share a plate when we ordered , she splitted the dishes into two. Great service.
The onion soup was good but too salty for some. The Tavern burger was good (asked for medium got well). The chicken pot pie was very disappointing.
Berry cobbler was really nice and not too sweet! Overall good experience

I've dined at Buckley's Tavern many times over the years and have found the food delicious, the service professional and friendly and the atmosphere warm and comfortable. Highly recommend a visit.
kyneta Lee
Staff is always friendly and the food is wonderful. If you want to bring a group of 5 or more, be sure to call to make reservation early!
J Sauls
Really great food and friendly staff. My daughter and I came here for dinner and we were so glad we did. The food was delicious, creative and fresh. We'll definitely be back!
Laura Black
Always delicious and accommodating, you can't go wrong with anything on this delectable menu. Great service.

Historic building, very cozy inside. Decent menu of American fanfare, but some items a bit on the high side. The burger was great, cooked just right with fried onions and bacon and Chipotle aioli, and the coleslaw was some of the best I’ve had in a while with perfect texture, taste, and creaminess. Service was a little slow but it was quiet and relaxing inside, even for a crowded Sunday with football on. Exceptionally-clean bathrooms, too.

good food and friendly staff. Was very helpful when we had to move our reservation on Christmas Eve. Tasty food that came quickly.

Buckley's is one of my favorite restaurants that I found on accident just exploring the area. In 3 weeks I am having my wedding dinner there upstairs. The food is really good, and well priced for the amount that you get. The townie bar feel is super welcoming, and cozy. I would recommend Buckley's to anyone and everyone looking for great bar food, and great ambiance.

This is a favorite restaurant when in the area. The food is delicious. Best Mushroom Soup. You will certainly not leave hungry.
Brittany Ewald
Excellent food & service on a busy Saturday afternoon. Best Calamari and crispy wings! Outstanding salads: Crab Cobb, Poached Pear & Roasted Beet with tender beef. Mac & Cheese to share was tangy, sweet and delicious.
Stephen Chun
Comfort food in a comfortable neighborhood tavern feel. Bar area reminds me of "Cheers" Dining room reminds me of nice fine dining restaurant. Staff is top notch. Had the clam chowder. Rich and full of clams. The chicken pot pie is a full portion. Need to put an "Inn" close by so I have somewhere to sleep after a great food and drinks.

Born in Delaware but never been to historic Buckley's, Tavern built in 1817! Came for lunch without a reservation.
There was an expected crowd but the wait was minimal at about 10 minutes.
Classic Class. Fantastic menu....and the bathrooms are to die for....lol
I had the Buckley's Sirloin and bacon
Cheeseburger cooked medium and it was excellent. The complimentary fries, while not hand cut, were very good. But again the burger was excellent.
My wife said her Ruben sandwich with fries was also excellent. The appetizer was the house nachos which were also very good. Each of us had a glass of Merlot wine that was the perfect complement to our meal. No desert as our tummies were pleasantly placated.
A compliment is in order for our server Jesus, who is a credit to the the Buckley's establishment. The eating atmospherics was nice and subdued, even at a high traffic Saturday lunch period.
Happy to have finally made it here and will return to sample diner entrees in the future.
Another go-to Tavern for us Pennsylvania Buckeroos on the road to Everywhere! Peace Out from the coolness of Centerville, Delaware..
Karen Ray
We stopped here for lunch on a Friday but didn't have reservations. We were very lucky they had room for our party of 5. This is a very unique restaurant. It is in a very old house where there are different rooms you can eat in. Unfortunately we didn't get the history of the house. My husband was amazed at the old fashioned pulley system for the fans in the room we ate in. The service and food were excellent. If you are in the area definitely stop here for lunch or dinner. Parking lot is kind of small and reservations are suggested.
David Baker
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here last evening. We both had the mushroom soup which was outstanding. I tried the wild burger (a combination of bison, elk, kobe beef and boar). It was perfectly prepared, rare, just as I requested and delicious. I'll be back and soon!
Betty Markonas
Great place. We ate lunch there in their outdoor patio area on a nice day recently. Food was fabulous, staff was warm and friendly. Will definitely be back.
Jordan Irazabal
A reliable spot for good food and friendly service. I especially like the popcorn shrimp, the Thai noodle soup, and the Buckley burger!
Susan Parenteau
Stopped with family after a funeral. The staff was wonderful and fit us in. Our lunches were delicious. The building is beautiful. Can't wait to come back.
Steven Kristoph
Another delicious meal at Buckley's. Made reservations but didn't need them. Ate at a booth near the bar.
Mushroom soup, yummy
Marge Buenzli
Excellent food and service despite major traffic issue right outside their front door. Very accommodating My four sisters and I highly recommend!
Bobby Wessner
Food and service was perfect. The crab cakes are gigantic, the salads super fresh, fries perfectly cooked... Everything was great!
Michelle Falcone
good food, good service friendly atmosphere. Definitely a "regulars" place. Some of the staff have worked there forever...
Ann
Fantastic meal! Crab cakes were amazing. Service was a bit lack luster.
Stephen Molitoris
Spent our 34th wedding anniversary here. Great selection of food on the menu. The mac and cheese was tasty and generous, with some to take home. Nice friendly atmosphere. Appeared to be a favorite spot for locals.
Renee F
Great little place. Make sure you make reservations especially on Fridays. Food is solid and the service is good.
Barb Schmidt
Very nice pub-style restaurant. The waitstaff was friendly, the food was good, and the prices were reasonable.
MPB
Stopped in for a quick cocktail on the way homeaftervstopping for pet meds atbthe Vet next door. Solid Old Fashioned, although a little pricey considering it was Happy Hour. Personable, proficient bar staff ... the bar was packed and the staff never fell behind. Neat place with a terrific restaurant side of the house.
Mary D Swartz
Was there on a bus trip to Brandywine Museum & stopped there for lunch. Food & service were excellent. Atmosphere was cozy. Really enjoyed it.
Brittany
Great service and wonderful food!! I had the Poached Pear Salad with chicken and oh my! It was one of the best salad I have ever had. I will definitely be back.
John-Paul Mifsud
I absolutely loved it, the place is always packed and now I know why. Everything from the building and decor, to the staff, to the food and drink was top notch.
Starting with drinks, The guinness was fantastic. For mains, i went with the game burger and it was the best burger I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly to my request and was just simply amazing. I don't normally do dessert but coconut cream pie is hard to turn down when it available, I got one to go and it was so, so good.
Overall a very, very good meal in a beautiful place, 5 stars is not enough.
Lucy Uke
I absolutely love this place. The service is always on point and the food is delicious. I’ve never had a bad time here. I can’t remember the girls name, but she has maroon hair-works as a bartender and server. I’ve had her twice the last two times I’ve gone and she’s AMAZING! So professional and seems she really loves her job. I wish I could put her in my back pocket lol well done, guys! Can’t wait to get the mussels again. Best I’ve ever had!
Silvia Loves
This is a lovely place. I like the ambience, plenty of parking. Had the mushroom soup, which was excellent!
Sofi B
Food was amazing and the service was great. It was a little busy so our food took a bit but everyone was super friendly
D F
Was able to be seated without reservations! Of course we had to have a cup of mushroom soup. The poached pears on the salad were very delicious...wish there were more on the salad! Staff were all pleasant. Will definitely stop in again next time we're in the area
N SS
Excellent everything! I could close my eyes and point at anything on the menu and I know that I will be satisfied. We love this place!
Melinda Crain
Have been here several times for lunch , dinner and brunch over the past year. Consistently leave happy and full. If I am not in the mood to try something new and do not feel like possibly being disappointed, I know I can come here. Great cheesesteak egg rolls , the Caesar is good, tasty burgers, fried fish, and French toast. Cobbler never disappoints.
J Tartaglia
I LOVE this restaurant. We come here at least once a week. But.....I wished the menu changed up once in a while. I know the menu by heart. My God! It's been the same for years! Please think about adding a new vision. The daily specials are meh. Who eats quiche at 3:00pm?
RaJe Jo
Great place! I had the wild game burger and absolutely loved it. Also, there is a lady there (I wish I knew her name) who made us the best charcuterie board I have ever had. Our waiter (who was droll and hilarious in his own right) said that she really goes out of her way to buy extra things to make it special. The care she put into making our board was unbelievable. All hail the Charcuterie Queen!
Adam Chesia
Food and staff are excellent, great beer and wine list too. Never a disappointment when you dine here. Miles and Jenny make you feel like family.
Only addition I have since last time is Kim, our server, she was great in her own right, but especially good with our kids. Always a great experience in every aspect.
L A.
Their food was amazing. The restaurant itself inside is gorgeous with a wonderful atmosphere. Service was good. Would highly recommend
Ari Hodges
I had a crab cake sandwich, which was pretty good. I ordered it with potato salad, which was very different from what I expected. It’s simply chopped up potato chunks in mayonnaise. I added my own seasonings of salt and pepper at the table. My fiancé had chips with his wagyu burger which he said was “okay.” His house made chips had a burnt after taste.
Our server was nice and checked on us plenty, I just wish the food was enough to bring us back for the price. This restaurant is always bustling people, but I just wish I could understand.
patty mccarthy
Stopped in after a visit to Delaware museum of Science, loved it, sat outside and enjoyed the nice breeze, the food was delicious. A very nice time. Will be back.
Stephanie T
Love it! Nice atmosphere, clean and the food is delicious!!! You can sit outside on the rooftop or inside. Great dinner spot!
Janice Finn
Food good as usual. Front door staff need lessons in etiquette. When someone turns up at 4.30pm without reservation and bar area has plenty of empty tables, please don't be snooty and say they are reserved. The 'reserved' tables were still empty at 5.30pm. there are diplomatic ways to approach customers and that day would make excellent example of how NOT to treat customers.
Karen Gale
I was so excited to eat here, but they were full, make a reservation so you aren't disappointed.
Tom Carroll
Great food, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices.
Marisa DiMarco Padin, MBA, GIA GG, AJP
Chef Tom Hammon's cuisine cannot be adequately called food. It is a culinary song of excellence. We so enjoyed our meal. Our talented servers were educated in wine pairings, etc but were never stuffy; they were innately warm and friendly. We can't wait to come back!!
Victoria Morisco
First of all, I love this place as it has everything. Casual room with very large bar to stop in for a few drinks or quick lunch. Dining room with linen tablecloths for dinner with friends. Outside dinning on patio and even a roof top deck. We had the pleasure of dinning here this evening. The Calamari good over all, though some were too chewy. Our Buckley burgers were delicious. No grease at all, very good bacon and even toasted bun. I had crème brûlée for desert which was made perfectly. The best part of the entire experience tonight though, was our waiter ~ Jesus He is a young man who completely understands what it takes to create a wonderful experience for diners. Very attentive (even though he was also serving a large table of 10 plus 3 other tables) service was excellent. He was very polite with great sense of humor. He made the evening and is a real asset to the restaurant. Treat him well before a competitor steals him. Thank You Jesus ! We’ll definitely be asking for you on our return visits ! Victoria Morisco

Went on a bus trip during lunch. Food was delicious. The Buckley burger hits the spot.
Larry Regan
Great food. We sat on the front porch...it was warm and cozy but the lighting was horrible. If your going put guests on the porch plez supply adequate light. A big candle is better than nothing. We had to use our cellphone flashlights to see our food. Not acceptable at all. Your food is delicious and the place is cute. Make this minor improvement...your place would be perfect.
C. Nel
2nd time there and ordered original margaritas both times. Evidently, the bartenders are not trained or knowledgeable in making drinks. Top shelve tequila isn't cheap. Both visits I sent them back. A waitress both times remade my drinks. Which weren't great but drinkable. Original
margaritas are my drink of choice. I went to school to become a mixologist because making drinks is a science and profession. I guess I'll have to get a beer there in the future. The food and service is good. If you like mixed drinks done right and professionally? Don't get one there because you'll be disappointed.
Chris J
Overall was good drinks and appetizers. Unfortunately the shrimp and grits wasn't very good at all I wouldn't call it shrimp and grits. Was kind of strange.
Portia
My family and I booked the private, upstairs room on a Sunday afternoon. We ended up being early for our reservation and the hostess, Anna, was incredibly accommodating. She handles her job with such grace and poise! The room was spacious and had the best lighting for family photos. Allison was our server and she made us feel comfortable and at home. The food and drinks were amazing. You look at the menu and want to try EVERYTHING. I highly recommend going on an empty stomach and trying numerous dishes. Absolutely everything was so flavorful and delicious! Also, the wait time for food and drinks was not long at all or maybe it was but we were patiently enjoying our strong cocktails! We kept raving to Allison about how great the food was and Chef Tom came up to greet us! Such an amazing experience! Definitely in my top 3 of restaurants in DE.
Just Me
My girlfriend and I love this restaurant. Good food and cozy atmosphere.
Diane Pozzi
Buckley's Tavern always delivers a great experience. Great menu!!!
Cynthia Sergi
Recently had lunch at the Tavern while on a group trip to the area. I chose the chicken pot pie. It was served in a large bowl and I would have called it chicken pot pie soup. Instead of a flaky crust, there was what appeared to be a large cracker sitting on top of this soupy dish. It did taste very good but was not what I or any of my dinner companions expected. I would not order this again.
Ralph Trites
Sunday brunch includes meats & assorted pastries. (1/2 price if you’re in pajamas!) Terrific entree to go w listed sides. Wonderful service.
Loretta Normand
Chicken sandwich was delicious but should serve chips, pickles, coleslaw with a sandwich.
Suzanne “Suz's Views” Danella
We visited on a chilly Sunday. This restaurant is lovely, very classic well cared for but updated early 1900 American style. It is really a pretty restaurant. We sat in the dining room near the fireplace. This place is usually hopping so reservations are recommended. The day we visited was quiet- but COVID. That did not take away from our experience. The wait staff was lovely. I had the mushroom soup, a must have since the mushroom capital of the world is right down the street! I also enjoyed the mushroom flatbread...guess I went all in on mushrooms this visit, but I'll be back and will try something different next time.

The food was delicious. I had the Buckley's salad. The service was very good as well. We sat outdoors and it was very pleasant. I highly recommend it!
Michael Freidin
The popcorn shrimp appetizer was unreal. Quite possibly the best fried shrimp I have ever eaten. Very good overall but would have preferred more shrimp instead of my entree.
Barbara Hearne
This is a favorite when we are near by. We always enjoy the comfort food and wine list or great beers on tap. I ventured with the broiled crab cake and was very content.
Diane Kinney
Always great to go to Buckley's! If you are looking for somewhere to go with a group, Buckley's is accommodating and provides excellent service. We were there for a luncheon with approximately 35 women, and the service was pleasant and prompt and the food as good as always. Highly recommend that you car pool and plan extra time for parking, as it can be kind of crazy there.
Steve Whalen
We had Alex as our waiter. He was spot on with everything! Totally perfect. The chef came out to ask how everything was which was super awesome. Food and staff were top notch! Thank you for a great start to the weekend!
Rachel Brandt
My family stopped in for a late lunch before heading to Longwood Gardens. The food was great, and special shoutout to our server and Jake for treating my Nana like the queen she is! They truly made our day special!
James Cook
Well when we’re in Centerville,DE after a visit to ToTo Vino or on our way to Longwood Gardens, we make a point to visit Buckley‘s Tavern. Their Mushroom Soup, is worthy of a detour. Good menu selection, wait staff attentive. Crab Cakes, are a yum!
Jon Elordi
Really fun restaurant. I love the menu and the atmosphere. Ton of fun.
Samantha Baranowski
They hosted my food arts class for Wilmington University, it was excellent! They paired 4 small dishes with beer and I can hardly wait to go back for more.
Tiffanie Igwilo
I attended lunch today at Buckley’s Tavern and it was delectable! My friend and her family made reservations and heard about this place from a friend. They did not disappoint! We had the private room upstairs and we were a party of 12. The menu selection is very broad which made it hard to choose. We ordered the popcorn shrimp, crab cake sliders, and macaroni and cheese as appetizers and it was 1000/10! We also had mimosas which were STRONG and tasty!
When ordering our entree we were able to order from the after 5:00pm menu at around 2PM and I had the crab cake entree and it was soon good! Shortly after our meal, Chef Tom came upstairs to greet and speak with us and we let him know his food was so good! I definitely recommend this establishment for brunch, date nights, and special celebrations.
Koen Loeven
Very good service and crab cakes to die for! Finished with a fantastic seasonal apple grumble.
Meg F
The spare ribs and sauce, and the polenta were excellent, you could tell they spent 10 hours on some of those sauces. I didn't even get a chance to try a desert or orderves, but i will be back for the pork shank. I hear the game meat burger is excellent!
ERIC PAINTER
We were accommodated on the outdoor porch as requested, with a good distance away from other tables and a fan overhead. The menu had lots of options, everyone in our party enjoyed their meal- crabcakes and mushroom flatbread. The wait staff was attentive and efficient, the Tavern was lovely, and the facilities were clean. It was a lovely lunch. I would recommend this place to others.
Caitlin McDonough
My boyfriend and I ate at Buckleys yesterday for the first time. I ordered the clam chowder soup and he ordered the Buckleys Tavern burger. Both were delicious! The hostess and server were very friendly as well. Definitely will be going back.
Julie Dallett
Delicious food, reasonable prices and great service!
Maggie Gager
Although not very busy when we arrived, we still had to wait quite awhile for our orders to be taken. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer and they were not that good. They were dry, and lacked enough melted cheese. Also had very little of the other toppings you usually get. The main courses were good though.
Jamielynn Clark
Service was great. The beverages were delicious and strong! The food is always delicious and fresh. Social distancing guidelines are definitely being followed. We made a reservation, which is recommended. We were meeting a family member that we have not seen in a while, so it was nice that we were not rushed to order.
Kathie Pierson
Best food ever. Great service. Always a pleasure!
Debra Funari
Food was very good. Properly poured Guinness. Bar was too crowded for my comfort, but there were partitions between tables. Dining room seating very well spaced. Cleaning done after a table vacated was very thorough, every spindle of the Windsor chairs was wiped as well as the table and the chair seats.
Ande DiNunzio
The food was good , the wait staff terrific and the chef went from table to table to speak with the customers
The only negative comment has to do with parking. Very small parking lot and street parking is not allowed.
Brenda Grob
The food was so delicious and the venue was so lovely inside. Great service and in a beautiful location
Lauren Wessel
Great lunch spot with beautiful patio! Enjoyed the gluten free bun for my turkey burger and clearly marked gluten free items on the menu.
Ian
Review number 1000 here. Buckley’s is solid. The bar side feels a bit divey (which I love) and yet you know there are a lot of well to-do people in there. Great atmosphere, really good food, friendly staff. You could do just a drink here or come here for Mother’s Day brunch. Cheers.
Jennifer W
The vibe here is awesome! Their new chef is killing it with variety and flavors. I’d highly recommend checking this place out, casual, home like and the food is so good.
Alekxa90 TWE
Food was good. Service is a bit slow. Location is charming and staff is nice
Donna Riesenberger
We stopped at Buckley's for a beer and a bite to eat and we were not disappointed! My husband ordered the nachos, and they were gone in no time! I had the hummus plate with a ton of fresh veggies, and it was absolutely yummy. The bartenders were attentive and very friendly in their conversation. The ambiance at Buckley's is always nice, and the service is impeccable! Highly recommended!
Leonardo Klausmann
Nice property, good food, and great beer selection. Getting a flight of four or five oz draft s for $6.50 is a really good deal. Try the space otter and dark English al e that was 4.7% and name something like the brawler. That old English tradition done well is hard to find and I really appreciated having it on the menu.
Jason M
I have been going to Buckleys for many years and whether on a date or meeting friends it is always enjoyable. The portions are large and the locale in hamlet of Centerville picturesque. Love the bar area for dining. Have an extensive wine and beer list and their flytes are varied and reasonably priced.
Eileen Stewart
A nice after noon respite on a busy afternoon
Matt Stuart
Everything from the service, the atmosphere, drinks, and especially the food was phenomenal. The Mac and cheese with tomato jam was so good my girlfriend threatened to stab my hand with a fork if I tried to eat any more of hers.
Jason G
love this place. Don't miss out. they simply care and make sure everything is perfect for their patrones. Now on to the food
the crab cakes are great, fish tacos are great as great . the codd salad is the go too dish. the drink and wine menu is great also. dont miss it .
Update love the service Here always above and beyond.

Excellent Calamari..
Fantastic French Dip..
Wonderful working staff..
Great dining experience 👌 …

This place has seen changes for the good over it's lifetime. I haven't been here in over ten years but what I remember if it then, was not something to be desired. NOW, it's beautiful inside, well lit, and much more pleasant atmosphere.
I don't want to harp on this much but the server and host were not as well prepared for the job as they should be. The host asked if we had reservations but then said it didn't matter she would find where to seat us (5). Then the server describes food completely opposite of what we want but expects that to be accepted. Soups and salads come out before the main meal, not at the same time. Lastly, don't make the customer find you to get the bill; you might get an unpaid table if you don't check on them. Train the staff more and check up on them. I'd go back to give them another try; it was a Sunday night and everyone wants to go home.
Susan Erlich
Full. First time there. Seated but had 2 leave. Not enough servers so had to wait abnormally long for food
Mark Hopkins
We ate in the pub. The food options were good and the beer and wine list is ample. The quiche of the day with Caesar salad was excellent. The waitress was friendly and did not rush us. But, she checked in several times to be sure we had what we needed.
Jessa Yoos
Solid choice but often over crowded. Sometimes hard to find parking and the parking lot is awkward. Food and drinks are good. Service usually good.
Buck Ratledge
Been back to Buckley's twice since the mask mandates were lifted and both times the service and food have been spectacular! There are many other restaurants that could learn a thing or ten, about re-opening post pandemic by watching how well the entire Buckley's team all work together to create a wonderful dining experience! Fantastic work folks! Thank you!
Bob Dunham
Been coming here for over 30 years. As always, everything was good with our food. I would have given tonight five stars had they added some help with the dining area. Our poor server had the entire two dining rooms and it was hopping. He managed it better than I could have expected.
Martha Smylie
We always enjoy Buckley's Tavern. We went for midweek lunch with reservations at 1:00 p.m. The place was packed with people, possibly experiencing their first inside dining post Covid isolation or it's a regular business lunch spot for many. Diners who did not have reservations were being asked to wait a half hour.
Monticha Tanatammatid
I love this place. We had their crab cake, scallop and the fluke. They were so delicious.
We are about to have an Easter brunch. I think I am going to try their French Toasts, Quiche, and chicken pot pie!
Andrew Rankin
Nice atmosphere and a good place for business meetings. Our table all ordered the crab cobb salad. I did feel that the crab could have been warmed before serving, but it is a cold salad. Either way, the food was good and the staff was very attentive.
Arynn Brucie
New to the area, we stumbled upon this place on a drive. From the drinks to dessert, we had to pinch ourselves with each sip and bite that everything was THAT good. We already can't wait to go back and will likely become regulars.
Janet Sowiak
I shared a bite at the bar with friends. The service was excellent and mushroom soup delicious. My friend really enjoyed the hamburger and fries too.
Wyatt Brisbane
Went there for our anniversary. Staff was awesome. Food was great. We even got a bit of a show when there was an intoxicated individual making a scene after last call. Staff promptly handled the situation and handled it well. Definitely would back if we're in the area.
Ly. Butcher
Siiiigh. We really wanted to love this place. Fantastic ambience, decent enough beer list, some creative food options. But we all silently noticed, later sharing with one another, that the service was just so poor. The Waitress acted like we were an afterthought, checking in maybe a couple times an hour-- and not to clear our empty glasses and bottles. I had to ask not one, not two, but three different staff just for a refill of water in my (plastic) cup. So-so time, which is a shame given the austere attitude.
Nancie Bailey
We had a late lunch, food was excellent staff all five stars. The owner even came out and asked if everyone was ok. Our waitress Jenny was perfect.
Great place to eat. It was crowded but you would never know it. Service ran like a fine tuned car. Big Red ( 57 Chevy) was there too in the shade.
Barbara Roberts
Have a great lunch experience at Buckley's. The food was fresh and well prepared. Absolutely loved the grilled salmon on my salad. Best mushroom soup I have had in a long time, more mushroom less broth!
Server was very pleasant and checked in on our table frequently.
Elizabeth
Really delicious food in a warm inviting atmosphere. The wait staff were really lovely and accomodating and managed to find us a seat even though it was an extremely busy night and we didn't have a reservation. They serve some gorgeous gluten free food options, I had the turkey burger and it was the nicest turkey burger I've ever had in my life. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be returning for another meal here.
Kennie “13FISTer” Kisamore
A great place to eat or have a drink is at the bar. Reservations are best though if you want to eat in the restaurant area.
Scott Vance
Great place, good atmosphere. Good food. The owner actually came by and checked on her table which was very nice. It was loud though, we were there shortly after office hours and there were many people getting a drink. There is a dining room in the back but that was full as well. Overall good place and good food for a great price
Peter Sauer
Buckley's is a cool place in Centreville, Delaware just south of the Pa. border. Nice casual atmosphere. We went on a Tuesday around 4 and even then the bar was full. Had a Reuben sandwich but the fries that came with it weren't very good. Everyone else seemed to like their food. Good beer list.
Owen Williams
My wife and I have been driving past this place for the last two months. Finally stopped in for dinner. So glad we did. The service was the best, food was fantastic. Planning on coming back to celebrate my wife's birthday with a larger party. Don't make the same mistake we did and drive past. Stop in, you won't regret it.
Ken Pineault
Be wary...unvaccinated staff serving you and not masked up. Good food and good atmosphere. But be careful.....waitress we had said she wasn't covid vaccinated and didn't wear a mask. WE masked up to enter but no staff wore them. I'm OK for vaccinated staff to do that but unvaccinated staff should wear them so they don't infect those of us that are.
Appreciated response from owner and glad to see they have policy in place. Just need to insure it's followed. Thanks.
David Gregory
Excellent meal for the whole family, with great service! Nachos were a great appetizer. The Buckley's burger was very good, with the side of coleslaw. Two others enjoyed the Bison burger, with another enjoying the Chicken Pot Pie, and another the Cob Salad with crab meat. Enjoyed a good family meal together!
Connor Biederman
Great Place, great atmosphere, and great food. I would recommend anyone to come here for a nice dinner. The one aspect of this serene experience that really stood out to me was the food running. In a particular a young lad by the name of Alex Giacoio was the crème de la crème of all food runners. The way he elegantly and efficiently brought the food to my table gave me a feeling of satisfaction and warmth that I had not experienced since childhood. I said to him: "Young man what is your secret to being such a good food runner?" and he just smiled and said "When you love what you do, you strive for excellence in everything you do". In what some would consider a mundane and boring discipline of food running, he made it his mission to make sure that not only did he strive for excellence in his job but also in making sure every customer has a wonderous night. Overall, it was an amazing night and I look forward to dining again in the presence of the best food runners God has blessed us with on this Earthly plane.
Richard Densel
Visited for the first time and was very impressed. One of the owners imediately came out and introduced himself and thanked us for coming. The food was delicious, service friendly and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely come back!
Hannah E. Wolfe
I recommend ordering one of the specials. When I went, I had a Korean-style omelette that was absolutely delicious and a creative spin I haven’t seen anywhere else.
The drinks were delicious too, and our bartender, Katie, was personable and attentive. She also gave great drink recommendations!
Rod Hobbs
Generous portions and fast service that matched our large group.
jon schleif
Lots of choices, the menu has something for everyone. Good quality food. We had dinner there on a Saturday night, and it was not to crowded.
Mary Kaye Nickel
Good food with a old money atmosphere. People who are well off but don't need to flaunt it. It is a place I rarely get to enjoy. Today I got to eat in the room with a fireplace and wood beams on the ceiling. The walls were also wood. The place is comparable with similar restaurants.
Spencer Rhodes
Nice atmosphere. We had a very good meal - spinach and artichoke dip with pitas, crab macaroni and cheese, shrimp and grits - the latter tasted sort of like a jambalaya and was really delicious. Would definitely return.
Cee Warren
This is my husband's and my go to for a relaxing meal. Staff is very friendly and the food is fresh and delicious.
Christopher Lawliss
Went for Sunday brunch. The brunch experience is fantastic. The eggs Benedict was really good, especially the cheesy hash browns that come with it. The French toast was ok, it was a little burned on one side and the egg mixture was like a fried egg on one side. The pastries and meats that come with the brunch were excellent. We are on the patio which was such a great atmosphere.
Karen N
Four stars for the atmosphere and ambiance. It’s a really relaxing place to sit down for lunch. You feel like you’ve just stepped into a local Delawarean’s place of residence. The prices are pretty steep (I paid $30 or so for a chicken pot pie which was really crusty and just filled with so much gravy) for what you get.
Clinton Wike
My wife and I had dinner here last night. I had the veal chop with mushrooms and it was the best veal chop that I have had. Not only was it cooked perfectly the mushrooms were amazing. She had the Quiche with mushrooms. The portion was generous and very flavorful. We were lucky enough to have a table outside alone with no other dinners. Our server Tim had impeccable timing. While I understand the timing of the food was less his doing he still showed up at the table to address our needs perfectly while being respectful of our intimate experience.
Anne Ciskanik
Delicious food and excellent service yesterday! Our server Kim was fantastic, took care of us and recommended great options.
Daren Lawrence
UPDATE:
I'm changing my review from 2 to 4 stars.
I've been back 2 more times with family and friends for Sunday brunch. We showed up at 10am when they open and we were seated immediately. Experience was great and the food was all around much better than it was before. They seem to be welcoming of kids. Prices were really good, especially since kids under 5 got free meals.
My only concern is planning to go with larger groups and their willingness to do reservations. Several months ago we were denied a reservation and when me and my wife showed up WITHOUT our 6 friends who wanted to go, the place was about half capacity and we sat there wondering why they told us they couldn't give us a reservation for 8+2kids.
Christopher malmstrom
Buckley's is one of my favorite places to eat. Great food, a wonderful beer selection, a casual atmosphere and during the summer my wife and I live sitting on the deck or the roof. My only warning is be careful how much you eat for dinner because their desserts are fantastic.
Ryan Bower
Even with a relatively simple menu, this place gives your mouth a complex ride. The food was cooked as ordered, so if you are shy of cool red beef, order accordingly. Their Reuben was an absolute delight, with everything in seemingly perfect proportion. The staff was attentive, and extremely quick in handling requests.
Brett Skipper
It had been a long time since we were here. When it initially changed ownership we were not thrilled with the food but it was much better this time. The steaks we had were excellent. As always the ambience was amazing and the service was excellent. Centerville is a really cool tiny town. The restaurant is in a beautiful location and worth the visit.
Effy3
Great atmosphere, great food, large menu, crowded but we were seated within 10 minutes. Wish it was closer.
Lisa Walker
Beautiful place staff was very attentive
I has jumbo and limp crab meat on an English muffin and it was all meat no fillers!!
It was my first time, I will def go back. They have a very good menu as well, there's something for everyone
Jeanne McParland
Superb comfort food and special meals can be found in the historic tavern area, ample seating is available in the dining room, or outside shaded, relaxed seating. There is even fun rooftop seating. Great place to stop with family, friends and business acquaintances. Friendly and accommodating staff. Love Buckley's!
Kevin Monihen
Nice pub like atmosphere. Crab cake sliders were very good. Service was a little slow. I will definitely return when I'm in the area.
Paula Di Netta
Love this place, especially since it has been done over. Everyone is always so pleasant and friendly. The front porch and the upstairs deck are great fun. I usually sit at a booth in the bar, but I think there is a fireplace in one of the other rooms too. They have heaters on the porch so if it is cool you can still sit outside. Food and drinks are top notch. Although I've never brought children, this seems a place for everyone, young and old alike. Food is fresh and the flavors are slightly unique. My favorite meal is a veggie wrap that is absolutely delicious! Great place to stop before visiting Longwood. See you soon!
Julie Fleiser
Stopped here for lunch with 4 friends after visiting Winterthur. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who gave us the best seat in the house! Our waitress was friendly, and gave suggestions without being pushy. I had the crab cake which was excellent. Sweet potato fries were semi-crispy, not mushy. Perfect. We shared the coconut cream cake and Girardelli
brownie for dessert. When the waitress brought the check, she said that she did separate checks and even divided the desserts 5 ways! She thought of everything!
The menu has something for just about anyone. Even some vegetarian options. Can't wait to go here again.
Joan Betzold
Omg! I love mushroom soup and have eaten it alot, I have NEVER eaten such fabulous mushroom soup.. Never ever! I have the lasagna.. It was very good.. Veggies were great. Garlic bread out of this world! Hot tea was hot and delicious and they had honey.. A rarity! Dessert.. Ahh.. A scrumptious pumpkin tart! The service was excellent.. The colonial setting Devine! A lovely dinner! Make reservations!
Ellen Linsen
Local hangout with better than a bar food menu. Prices are a little high for what you get, and there's no local competition. Food is ok. The crabmeat on my salad was very good, but the avocado did not seem fresh -- it was slimy and tasted funny. Service was good. Parking lot is too small, and there was a car parked across a few spaces with someone sleeping in it, which was a turn off. I don't go out to eat often, so when I do, I expect something special. I was disappointed that this was not.
Brian McLaughlin
I never would have found this place if a friend didn't make the reservations. We showed up with over 10 people and all the food came out pretty quickly, the waitress was awesome and the food was amazing. I will definitely be going back when I'm out there again. They had some good beer selections and really good, fresh bread while we were waiting for appetizers.
Dawn Brown
The food here is off the chain good. The service is great and atmosphere super!!!! Prices not bad at all I will be going back!!!!
Kyra Lawrence
Nice Atmosphere in a little village. Old PA type establishment. Been here many times. Some innovative dishes. I and my friend had curry chicken salad on a croissant... delicious. Service good.
John Lazarz
Very good food. We felt very comfortable with the table spacing, given the pandemic situation. We did find the cheesecake serving to be a little small. Very good though!
Colleen Johnson
We stopped for an early dinner. Their crab/corn chowder was delicious. I had the turkey sandwich which was also very good. Warm turkey with fig jam, muenster cheese, and arugula on toasted walnut cranberry bread. Great place!
Bill Harrington
The receptionist is bordering ride and snooty today. We have eaten there many times and had our wedding reception there. All the other times the receptionist have been most pleasant. If she's there again we won't stay.
Barbara Kelly
Haven't been in over a year as my last visit was not so great. This time however was really good. Great comfort food prepared very well and moderately priced. Would definitely put this back on my list of go to restaurants
JR Reynolds
Long time local favorite dating back to early 1800s. Bar, booths and dining room make for warm atmosphere. Great food. Little pricey. 4/21/18 small Greek salad with salmon and bowl of mushroom soup was $25 but delicious.
Erin Sylvester
We dined al fresco. It was incredible from the service, the atmosphere(low-key, non-smoking, low-playing background music), the drink selection, and the food. I recommend their french dip sandwich and their homemade potato salad. A staple with a long and reputable history.
Carl Ingalls
Four of us had dinner at 5pm on Sunday 15 May 2016. We started with cocktails at the bar, all very good. Their Golden Mojito had a wonderful blend of ginger and fresh mint.
I loved the shrimp and grits with andouille sausage. A friend had their fish n chips, with a generous portion of fish. He said it was excellent.
The other diners had sandwiches, which they also enjoyed. Service was good. We will come back.
My previous visit was a number of years ago. If I had done a Google review back then, I would have given them 2 or 3 stars. They have definitely improved.
David Newman
Right now you must have a reservation to be seated. Parking is a premium. Parking lot got filled up fast. Then you are Parking on the street. Food was good.
Matthew McIlrath
Wonderful place. Our family visited for my parent's anniversary after seeing Longwood Gardens. Food was excellent, the waitress was very attentive and fun, and the atmosphere was perfect. Prices were fair. Would gladly recommend!
Lawrence Tom
Great place for team dinners. We had 5 minutes left of happy hour and quickly made the most of it. Beers all around and seconds. We had a starter of calamari, mushroom flat bread and mushroom ragu. I come to find out that this is supposed to be the mushroom capital of the world and their dishes are labeled to be Exotic mushrooms but am very curious to find out what Exotic mushrooms were used?
The calamari was crispy and perfectly fried. They have fried food mastered here. The fish and chips is a boat load of fish on a bed of fries. I had the short ribs but subbed the starch for fries. The ribs were good and would be dry without the good dollop of sauce covering the mound of meat. The accompanying asparagus was crispy tender and perfectly cooked.
I followed with the chocolate mousse and was thankful that it was a thin slice.
Steven Reed
Loved it! Went for my first time today and Had a great chicken quesadilla. Was very good. And the atmosphere is awesome especially with the fireplace. Everyone was nice and friendly. Definitely going to be back!
Jonathan Pearson
Great tavern with great food off of 52.
William j Kooser
Super historic quite. Great food. Owner is the chef bar scene as well as a formal dining room outdoor spaces. Best of all world's. 2 fireplaces. Can't go wrong
Sandy Marts
Delicious food. Especially liked the quinoa burger. Great service. Friendly servers. Nice ambiance. Our group is already talking about returning.
Edwina Milsted
First time and definitely will return! Great menu! Great staff! Food delicious! Less than 10 minutes from Longwood Gardens! Perfect place for food when you are done exploring!
Jenny Kenney
Great service and the food was delicious and filling. We went for brunch and if you wear your pajamas its half price. We got a plate of pasties to share and then our main dish. My friend got the shrimp and grits which was a $3 upcharge but it was a huge portion. Enough for 3 meals. The hashbrowns were the best hashbrowns I've ever had. We also got a plate of breakfast meats to share. Everything was perfect. Can't wait to go back.
Kaitlin Myers
The service has been slacking here the past few times, but last night took the cake. We arrived when all but one of the patio tables were open. Was told by the hostess we’d be seated in a “couple minutes.” Fifteen minutes later when still not seated we were told that “others had to be seated first” (even though we had been there the longest at this point). When we were finally taken outside, all of the tables were still open, so why did we have to wait so long?
We barely saw our waitress during the meal - took about 10 minutes to get a beer. Hope service gets better because the food, as always, was on point
Peggy Neff
What a wonderful place to eat! We were on a bus trip wuth 54 people and stopped to eat at Buckley's Tavern. It was suggested to us by the people that work at Winterthur gardens. We had an incredible meal all homemade. The portions were large, the service was impeccable and the wait staff was so polite. The chef came out to check on us and one of the owners did also. The highest rating for this place!
Lisa Bauer
Girls night out. We had table 19. For the most part everything was great but because of the outside dining we kept getting cold rushes of air. The food was hot and very delicious.
JoAnn Baker
Great atmosphere!Great food. We were in the bar at a high top. The bartender waited on us. She was professional and very personable!!
Jennifer Cordrey
The server had great recommendations and went above and beyond for my daughter when she learned we we're celebrating an award. The food is excellent. Everything that everyone ordered was delicious. Highly recommend.
Katie Shultz
Came here for a shower, we had the upstairs room. The food was delicious and staff was very nice. I have dietary restrictions and I felt fully accommodated and taken care of by our waiter! Would definitely recommend!
Nancy Barto
Went there after spending the day at Longwood Gardens. Ordered a fantastic burger. So amazing! Love the atmosphere and waitress was perfect. We have been going there for years!
joe hoke
Disappointed. Slow service, left after appetizer as our waitress went MIA. We would of loved to stayed for Dinner as the appetizer was good but it was Halloween and wanted to get home by 6:30. You would of thought getting to the establishment at 4:45 it would of worked but when the food runner brings your appetizer and your waitress still hasn't taking your dinner order and your glass is empty you get the feeling it's going to be a long dinner.
Brian Skuzinski
Awesome. Just totally great food and atmosphere. This place is located in possibly one of the most beautiful towns in Delaware. Not far from historic Chester county PA, the tradition of 300+ year old picturesque towns lives on in Centerville, DE. Buckley's Tavern completely embraces this. With excellent food, great service and a reputation that matches, you will not be disappointed.
The traditional hot wings are to die for. The exotic mushroom soup is also beyond fantastic. Though a bit expensive, the portion sizes and food quality easily cover the difference. This is food you remember.
Outside seating is available on the roof of all places. There is a bar up there as well! The view from that location is nearly priceless. Okay, we'll call it priceless.
2 years ago Trip Advisor gave a top 10 drives in the established USA. Chester County came in second behind the big island of Hawaii. BUCKLEY'S IS ON ONE OF THESE DRIVES! This place completely redefines comfort. You'll like it. NO, love it!
The ONLY drawback is parking. It's tight in this part of town. Don't let it discourage you. Find a spot anywhere. Walk if you have to. The walk back to the car in such a beautiful town makes the food settle better.
Sydney Arzt
It was ok...wine was good. Staff pleasant. Service took a while but staffing issues are everywhere. We were patient.
Kristina Flathers
Delicious food and a great atmosphere. Kids under five have brunch for free and if you wear pajamas your brunch is half price. The menu includes seasonal specials and they have the best mimosas in northern Delaware.
Craig
Friendly staff, selection lacking. We went at 5:30 saturday and they were already out of short ribs entre and the wine on special. Entree section can only be ordered after 5pm, so how many were prepped? And you would think they had at least few bottles of the wine on the nightly special sheet. Second choices were great considering the circumstances, and the staff was very accommodating
Betty Riegel
Ladies early dinner on Thursday. Went at 5pm to get a seat. Wait staff was very pleasant and accomodating. Quiche of the day, quite good. But too much potato. Included good size side salad. Chicken Pot Pie and PortaBello mushroom Capers were both good. Prices average and fun atmosphere, but keep in mind this is pub food! One more thing, parking and traffic are horrendous - especially if you want to go north when you leave.
Brian Nesbit
Food is outstanding. The staff is friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere and very nice historic vibe.
Daniel Becker
Delicious food. Pricey but worth it. Older home converted restaurant is a gem! Parking is tough but again, best food around. Service was great too. The Executive Chef is amazing!
Ted Dwyer
This is a very popular bar/restaurant. It was hopping when we were there on a Thursday night. The food is good. There's a good selection of beers and wines. The server was terrific. A good place for casual dining.
Nathan Davidson
I eat lunch here quite often, the food is great tavern fare. You can't go wrong with any of their burger options, the shrimp and grits are phenomenal, very tasty wings, and the crab cakes are more crab than cake.
Sharon Prosceno-Dempsey
Had to wait for our food. It was just appetizers but still took way to long. People sitting at the bar who came in after us had their food right away. We were told as we were paying that they are very short staffed.
Deborah Stayton
Buckley's is a warm restaurant in an historic building that offers a bar, informal indoor and outdoor dining and a wide variety of menu selections. From the chicken pot pie to the perfect Reuben, you will find just what you're craving!
Sean Gallagher
Took a while to get seated and we thought the time from taking our order to delivering the food was a bit long but everyone was pleased with their food.
The atmosphere of the place is nice and cozy and the waitress was reasonably attentive.
Konrad Finck
The food and service were both good. The menu has a good variety of interesting dishes. We'll eat there again.
Stephen Woodruff
Food average French fries came with Reuben were awful on all 4 plates. Reuben good. Clam chowder so thick spoon stood up straight in soup without holding it. $6.50 bottle of beer too much. To pricey for just ok food.
Hokie Nation
Very nice, quaint restaurant and often busy, but well worth the wait if on the weekend. Menu is somewhat varied, consisting primarily of fresh, local foods. Owner and Executive Chef, Tom Hannum, is professionally trained with years of experience at the Hotel du Pont, while it was owned by the DuPont Company. Food is delicious and wait staff -- most recently Charlotte E -- is very accommodating.....and you get what you pay for.
Prior to the current ownership, the facilities had fallen into serious need of repair, which took considerable time and money to restore.
When living in the area, my wife and I frequented Buckley's regularly and now, when visiting the area, we always eat one or more meals there.
If there's ever an issue / problem, Chef Hannum will deal with it. One can tell that Chef Hannum, in addition to being an outstanding chef, is one of the best managers in the business. While operating a disciplined restaurant, he is very considerate of his staff, which shows in their respect for their customers and loyalty to the business!
Believe 'history' needs updating as the current owners did not purchase it in 1970 and the facility was totally renovated just a few years ago........... Van Mc

Good food, good atmosphere
Love the Speckled Hen beer on tab
Portions are big.
Melanie Velez
We had Fish and Chips and Clam Linguini and both were fantastic. Very impressed with this place. Food is delicious, staff is friendly and quick. And food comes out fast!!
Nate Davis
One of the best burgers I've had in a while. Nice atmosphere too. I'd come back for sure.
Chris Cunningham
Great staff, good drink selection and great food. Great little tavern to have a drink and lunch inside or out!
Gerri Csizmazia
The tavern is an original. The decor takes one back in time. Service is excellent. Food is presented in a fancy manner. I had ahi tuna. It was cooked to perfection.
Susan C
Good food and pleasant atmosphere. Give the pajama brunch a try. What a fun way to start your day. Simply arrive in your most comfy PJs and be treated family style to baskets of muffins, feuit breads and scones and feast on bacon, sausage, ham, scrapple and your favorite entree. The service is always fast and friendly. The restaurant and restroom are clean. The decor is interesting.
Barry Zias
Nice local pub. Lots of wood in the decor gives it an old fashion charm for a drink at the well stocked bar or a meal of pub grub comfort food. Local hangout with lots of regulars most nights. It has an outside patio on the second floor for very pleasant meals in good weather.
Patricia Cellini
Recommended for an historic setting in a small village. Prices were very high, i.e. $8.95 for a crock of French Onion Soup which had way too much bread in it. The crab and cheese gratin sandwich was really more a crab melt and for $17.00 was a pricy sandwich. Service was good.
Deborah Gonce
Brunch at Buckleys Tavern was a bit of a disapppintment . Ordered banana foster waffle . Very few bananas .
Albert Ferguson
Excellent food excellent service, comfortable and friendly. Definitely recommend as we have been treated the same on all visits
Really nice patio seating, comfortable
Gail Kirchner
Beautiful place, great food, huge portions, super friendly staff! Just wish it were closer to me!
Matthew Olsen
For me, Buckley's is just ok. I wish it was a cool quaint pub/tavern with fun beer in tap and cool company....a local watering hole with home style for. Since I live within walking distance, I then might walk over frequently. Buckley's has some of these bones.
However, Buckley's is always too crowded, and the crowd is.... Not sure... Families? Somehow or just like the ambience.
I see a lot of people saying that Buckley's used to be a great place until the changeover. The food is decent, beer selection is ok (couple be better on tap selection)... My guess is the problem is the ambience especially due to being crowded and not bring a casual tavern crowd.
Karl Malgiero
If you can abide the inane conversation that wafts to your table from the uberChads and the Wonder Karens then get ready to enjoy the most mediocre food you have ever encountered. If they bother to serve it correctly. Dont go if youre easily annoyed. Pleasant staff makes up for their lack of ability and concern for the customers comfort. But then again Id tire easily too of those privileged customers that us in the service industry have grown exponentially tired of since covid restrictions.
Jennifer Hill (Sublimejah)
Great little spot in the Delaware château country. Close to Centreville and still on Route 52. The Tavern has had a resurgence with the new owner. Bar is still stellar, I recommend the jalapeño margarita. Make sure you ask for a straw, it's a spicy one! Casual elegance and friendly staff.
Kim Klump
The food was excellent, tasty, and just the right portion size. It was great to do an appetizer, entree, and dessert and get to enjoy each without getting full.
Larry smith
Been there several times, (4), if I hadn't been this would b a 1 star review. The first three meals were good, better than satisfactory. The fourth time we went service was very good however and I do mean this. DONT ORDER THE MEATLOAF. it was absolutely bad. Enjoy all their other apps and meals but no meatloaf
zachary mahoney
You get what you pay for! It may be on the pricey side but let me tell you, that was the best filet I have had in a long time. If you're looking for a classy nice out with your better half, this is definitely the place to go.
Nick McGrath
Very good food excellent service.
Shelly Fleagle
Food and drinks are always top notch! My husband is a very picky eater .He never knows what to order because everything sounds fantastic on the menu and what ever we both end up ordering it exceeds our expectations! Great atmosphere , good prices , great food , great customer service , inside and outside seating , Sunday pj brunch is a hoot !
Cheryl Chansler
I was expecting more than what I ordered. The shrimp and grits were runny. The grits ran right through my fork. I didn't have a spoon or I would have eaten my food with it. Everyone else had a decent meal for the price.
Steven Iannelli
Met some friends at Buckleys last night and this was my first time visiting. The food, our waitress and the atmosphere on the roof deck were all great. Would definitely come back again.
Jack Stubbe
I really like this place. Has had different owners over the years but still has the cozy bar area, adequate dining room, and an open rooftop spot with fireplace. Not a large place. A very popular locals spot.
VINCENZO CURRO
This place was recommended by an employee at the museum just 3 miles down the road. And we will definitely go back food was great, service was awesome, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable definitely a place to feel at home.
Rebecca Brown
This place is beautiful and has good food. They offer half off breakfast on Sundays if you wear pajamas. I recommend getting the cinnamon bun french toast. It is delicious.

I am reviewing the "NEW" Buckley`s not the old one.My wife and I along with another couple went to Buckley's for dinner on a Wednesday night. We had reserved a table it took 20 minutes to seat us in that 20 minutes we got to look around the renovated "New" restaurant and bar,Very nice inside it is warm and inviting.after being seated we were handed a very small and oddly priced menu allot of appetizer's.we had 2 different soups clam chowder was very good, cream of mushroom also very good,we also got fried calamari tubes and tentacles I think a rubber band would have tasted better typical frozen already breaded hors d`oeuvres. Entrees were Crab cake sandwich,We were expecting good Quality lump crab for the price, sadly it looked and tasted bad Shredded crab meat ,no back fin allot of wet filler. Next entree was a chicken César salad it did not come with the cheese and dressing tossed in to the salad ,dressing was in a side cup and was like firm as butter, the dressing and chicken tasted bad .the salad was sent back and French fries were ordered instead they were actually good. 3rd entree was scallops remarkably they were sautéed perfect and tasted awesome. 4th entree Appetizer Chicken quesadilla witch was ok just basic. The wait staff was great removed the unwanted meals quickly from in front of us and the bill was adjusted accordingly .We all were sad to not see the manager come and apologize for the poor meals and attempt to sway our impressions of our night, it was left to the waitress. We were expecting a meal that was a step above average bar food in the Centerville area. Did we expected too much!? Since drinking is not our favorite past time this will probably be our last stop into Buckley`s Tavern. Review for -11/28/2012 5:30 PM
Simon M. (GlassJAw!)
This place is great. If you want to eat something different and fresh you should go there. I tried the Meatloaf and is now my favorite dish. They also have some really good draft beers.
Tom Egee
Just ate here for brunch and everything was good. I usually dont eat baked goods and i ate three of the pastries they bring out first. Shrimp and cheddar grits were amazing.
PJ
Great menu and food! Always a lively place and interesting people. The only drag are the bar stools which have a nice wide seat but no backs!
Judy McDonnell
Awesome atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious food! Perfect for a fun dinner with the ladies!
Bob LoBue
Good food. Good value. Good service. Great barroom atmosphere but often too full. Restaurant has plenty of seating if wanting a meal, though.

We had our company function at Buckley's upper deck and that was the best celebration party ever !!! Manager Tom Kostur attended to all of our needs and kept checking to make sure we were taken good. care of. His professional aprouch along with wonderful personality made our party a success. We will all be coming back to this amazing place not just for great food and atmosphere but to know Tom will welcome us with his never ending smile. What a positive force he is - great addition to the team. Thank you for memorable time.

Buckley’s for a PJ brunch is one of our favorite family dining experiences always great food and great fun at a great prices. Always look forward to the plate of meat for the table!
Andrew Joos
My favorite part about Buckley's is the beer selection. Always a few great IPAs to choose from. The burger was good, but WOW was it salty. I'd not order one again just for that reason.
Paul McHugh
Very good food. Pleasant environment. "Cheers" like environment.
Rob Pitney
Haven't been in many years. We enjoyed our dinner. Food and service we're perfect. Get the soups!
Barbara Hagan

Nate Wise
A charming country tavern set in a picturesque village in the Brandywine Valley. Casual, attentive service presented a variety of casual comfort foods in an all together relaxing environment. The house wines by the glass were a step above many low end house wines. The clientele exuded the famiarity of local residents and was welcoming to visitors. Overall, a nice spot to unwind following visits to The country estates such as Longwood Gardens or Winterthur.
leslie hughes
After visiting Winterthur, had lunch with a few friends. We all enjoyed our food and the service was great, no wait.
Sandra Sewell
Went there with 30 ladies. Food was very good. Our waiter was excellent at our table. However friends of mine at another table said their waitress was not very pleasant.
Susan Emond
This has become a new tradition spot to grab a good bite in the Brandywine area. I love the old tavern neighborhood atmosphere, the mushroom soup is a must, and always Irish coffees.
DJ Ferguson
A very nice lunch with friends. The staff was extremely accommodating. Our waiter was very good. Food was delicious!
Juliet B
Sunday brunch is $9 (as opposed to the $18 flat rate) if you arrive in your PJs. It comes with a meat plate and pastries. The eggs Benedict is good, crab cakes also pretty yummy.
DGP Property Maintenance Services
All of the appetizers were very tasty with one exception, the nachos were horrible. Microwaved cheese was hard as plastic.
Fazel Zare Bidoky

Great service, food, and drink selection. The setting is cozy in the restaurant and the bar was separate but had a good size crowd without being overly packed.
Heather Teufel
Great food, drinks and service. The atomosphere was great too. We took our kids and even though it was a "fancier" restaurant they had good kids options
lavonne Wengreenvy
The food was ok and so was the service but I expected more. Our service was attentive but disappeared for long periods of time for some reason. Took a while to get our drinks and food. The food was ok but a bit over cooked and over seasoned which was disappointing.
Leo Volz
