Reviews of Tautog's Restaurant

We love this little local gem! It’s a slice of heaven with amazing seafood. This is perfect for a date night or hanging out with friends! The Sunday afternoon drink specials were great and our appetizer, entrees and dessert were beyond amazing! We highly recommend this dinner spot!

Loved the ambience of this old beach cottage turned restaurant. We sat on the screened porch and enjoyed the evening. My husband and I ordered the Crab Cakes and the Shrimp and Grits dinners and shared. Both were delicious but the Shrimp and Grits was our favorite. Key Lime pie to go as portions were generous. This place was a recommended by a friend and they were spot on!

Hands down one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. It's small but cozy. But the food is out of this world! I have to place the crab dip in the top 5 best Ive ever had. Was my first time visiting this establishment but please visit this place!

Overall delightful experience having dinner at the bar/walking in on a Saturday night for our party of four. Star of the show was the peach BBQ shrimp & grits for me -- fantastic flavor and texture-- highly recommend! I loved tasting the fresh raw oysters -- laughing king and big island variety -- both from VA. My friends enjoyed the veggie pasta and tuna dish. As for beverage pairing, I enjoyed the rosé and picpoul wines, both much less expensive than most restaurants at only $5-$7/glass. Both bartenders that took care of us were inviting and attentive to our wants. The restaurant as a whole seemed to handle the crowd really well. Thank you for a tasty dinner at the beach! 🙂

Great food and service and reasonable prices. Our family liked all the dishes. I had the blackened tuna with the blue cheese and it was good and fresh with decent portions. I also had a very good kentucky mule before our meal. Check them out while in VB.

Are second or third time here while in town and it does not disappoint still! We had a wonderful attentive server who was friendly. I had the tilapia and my husband had a catfish. Very cozy wonderful atmosphere even in the off-season and delicious food. We will be back when in town!

We had an amazing dinner tonight, we made reservations and glad we did. Place was popular and busy. Google definitely had the reviews right on this one!! I had a margarita and my friend Rum Punch. 😋
The clam appetizer was so good the sauce was amazing as well as the Lamb Chops. We both ordered scallops for the entree and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. And then a key lime pie for dessert it was my friends birthday!! 🥳 Thanks for the great food and service we will be back next year when we are in town for the jeep jam again, we had an amazing bday WKnd in VA beach.👍

Pros: Rosemary skewered salmon appetizer is amazing and could be a meal by itself. Bread is delicious, if a bit pricey. She-crab soup is good, as were scallops. Service was excellent.
Cons: Crab cakes were meh, lots of filler. Avoid the potatoes unless you eat spoonfuls of Old Bay direct from the tin.

Outstanding! Definitely worth a visit when in Virginia Beach. So much of the strip at Virginia Beach seems super commercial. However, this place has an authentic feel of a local beach restaurant. The bartender was excellent and friendly. The atmosphere is exactly what a beach restaurant should feel like. Great location, excellent food, and while it is not cheap, it is very affordable.
Michelle Tadayon
Food was excellent and priced very nicely. Everything was phenomenal - I wish I had taken a picture of the shrimp & grits before I started eating it! Bread pudding was to die for and service was excellent.

Service was great and friendly. The converted house atmosphere makes it cozy. Was a wonderful dinner spot for our Anniversary!
Kealani-Nicole Young
The service was great! We ordered the stuffed flounder and crab nachos- so good!! The place is a historical site so it was like a house turned restaurant? It was pretty cool. We finished our dinner with the key lime pie which was also heavenly!
You might need a reservation on a Saturday night, we had a 45 minute wait but well worth it!

Tautog's is UH-mazing on every level. The service is superb...the food is outstanding...the ambiance is a mixture of timeless and iconic. I've been coming to Virginia Beach since 2013...came here on referral. Fast forward 8 years and I'm still frequenting this local gem and doing the referring. Tautog's is a blend of local flavor and creativity. If you're a local...you already know. If you're a tourist...save yourself from the pricey tourist traps and treat yourself to an amazing experience that will make your trip to Virginia Beach memorable!!!
Shelly Lav
Quaint & welcoming atmosphere, very friendly people, well maintained and food was amazing. Fresh oysters, the rosemary salmon with spinach was incredible, she crab soup with Sherry- delicious and the main dishes, Ahi Tuna and stuffed flounder in a bag were wonderful. Highly recommend!
Dawn Teti
Amazing food, friendly atmosphere. Won’t disappoint. Make reservations so you get a table .

Service incredible, had a 6 PM reservation showed up a half hour early no problem seated right away. Wait staff and management is top shelf and did I mention we had a few drinks and there bartender knows what they’re doing all of our drinks were delicious. Scallops were delicious as was the tuna. Can’t recommend enough

Highly recommend when visiting Virginia Beach. Quaint Beach cottage setting. Close to the main drag while maintaining a hidden gem feel. The food was delicious, definitely amplified the homey atmosphere with a modern touch.

Service is friendly, the cottage is quaint, great atmosphere. Locals love it and we sat the bar as even though we arrived at 5:30 on Saturday night in March they were booked- make reservations. Food for the price was okay, I have had better crab 🦀 cakes in VA Beach. Maybe inflation has impacted this. Key lime pie 🥧 was on point! …
Anna Castro
What a pleasant surprise. Delicious She crab soup and crab cakes also shrimp and grits. Gin and tonic made to perfection. Excellent wait staff and hostess. We will be coming back. P.S. You have to try the bread pudding and vanilla ice cream!

2016: excellent seafood, awesome staff and great location ... the saffron steamed mussels were to die for. we ordered the Scallops and potato chip encrusted mahi mahi and both hit the mark. Food was great and prices were reasonable too ...
2022: Came back after 6 years, place is still extremely hospitable and food is still awesome. They take reservations now over the phone, highly recommended if you wish to get in.

Great casual food and professional service. Raw oysters were some of the best I've had in VB, especially the local "fancies." Crab nachos served in generous portion. Small but good selection of microbrews on tap.

My daughters and I were in town visiting and found this place, thought we'd give it a try. Food was amazing, and the staff was no less than wonderful. Our waiter was so helpful and kind. The atmosphere was perfect. We all agree next time we are traveling and in the area, we are definitely stopping in again!

The tuna and all seafood here is delicious. The flavors are delicious. Understated but delicious. I always love coming here. This place is the best and I'm happy it is still in operation during Covid. We have enjoyed their food for over 20 years every time we come to Virginia Beach. We hope they will continue to be open for business.
Pipo (Pipo)
The food is great and we came in without a reservation only to find out there's no available table for us. Got a call a short while later saying we could come in so we don't have to wait and that they're giving the 6/8 person table for us - two adults and a 5 year old.
Thank you for being considerate and you deserve the 5 star rating for all its worth coming from me.
Jeffrey Geraci
Update, still awesome! Delicious food, great service! Great gourmet meal during restaurant week. Fine wine selection. Great service. Authentic local atmosphere of an old beach cottage. Love this place for special occasions!
Andy Mozer
Off street parking and great sea food! Cozy spot for reasonably priced coastal fare. Old world feel with attentive and friendly staff. Make sure you make a reservation! The blackened tuna is a resident choice on the menu and a fantastic one at that!

Two Christmas parties were happening inside, but walk-ins were welcome on the porch and we had no wait on a Friday night at 7pm. Our waiter Chris was excellent. I enjoyed a Cosmo and got tipsy. We both had the Scallops Barca which is just a foodgasm experience. We also got deserts of key lime pie and a brownie sundae which were great. Even the potatoes on the side were tasty!
Edward O'Beirne
An excellent experience and very good food. Service was uniformly attentive and genuine - a rarity among beach town restaurants. Shrimp & grits, scallops, crab cakes all solid. Honestly I’ve had better of each of these dishes before but still was absolutely pleased with them at Tautog’s.
Food made it 4 stars but service by David P. pushed it over the top.
There are plenty of mediocre seafood restaurants nearby to avoid. We will definitely return to Tautog’s.

Absolutely loved this place!! We had ordered white shrimp flatbread as an appetizer which had shrimp in pesto sauce and was delicious. They were out of Cesar salad and gave us a house salad with some greek dressing which was alright. The show stealers were the Tuna Martinique and the Tautog chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The tuna was so succulent and cooked to perfection with such a blend of spices, it was delicious and I kept wanting more. The brownie was amazing warm and chocolaty with some nice icecream. The decor was awesome, with candles on each table. Me and my fiance totally enjoyed the ambience. Superlike, thumbs up to this place!!!!
Mia Smith
Super friendly staff!
The steak and tuna were both cooked as we request and the whole dinner was amazing. Rice pilaf and potato were under seasoned. Moscow Mule was very good!
J Evans
A great dinner just off of the strip. The outside of the cottage doesn't look like much, but I highly recommend it! Crab legs were fresh and buttery. The she-crab soup was fantastic. I had crab cakes and potatoes and they were as described, world-famous. Ended the meal with the infamous bread pudding. Highly recommend! Ask about any off-the-menu specials. We saw some amazing corn on the cob coming out of the kitchen.
Karen Gonzalez
Amazing local spot with delicious food. Great atmosphere and even better service. We waiting a little bit for our table so highly recommend getting a reservation. We were able to wait at the bar and have a few drinks and get an appetizer while we waited so that was fun. Bartender was very nice and friendly. Tons of seafood options and they are a supporter of 'Virginia Beach Save the Oysters' so their seafood is locally sourced, their to-go boxes are cardboard not styrofoam, and they only offer straws upon request (staws are the #1 plastic pollutant found in the ocean). They have tons of Gluten Free options and weekly specials. The desserts were just as tasty and varied as their entrees. Will definitely be coming back!

Looked like it would be an interesting place to eat at from the outside. However on the inside they put us in the side room with carpeting that was all soggy and squishy. Made for a kind of gross eating environment. I know it's not far from the beach, but still. Kinda gross. Some food was good, others were only OK.
TuxedoKat Imaginarium
Had a wonderful time at Tautog’s! We only came for cocktails and was very happy with the bar and bartender! Not only were the cocktails on point, the staff was warm and inviting! The atmosphere is wonderfully southern and happily fun! Highly recommended dinning for families
And dates, drinking for sates as well!
Matt Conti
Swordfish was great!! The rest of what we ordered was not so much. I think we also got a new waiter that was uneducated which was unfortunate because it seemed like the rest of the waitstaff was enjoyable.
A Will
I came here last night with my husband after reading some reviews and I must say this place is truly a gem. Everyone was super nice from the waitstaff down to the parking lot attendant. It was raining and I didn’t have an umbrella and the attendant let me use the umbrella so I wouldn’t get wet which was great. We were greeted as soon as we came in and it felt like visiting a relatives house in all honesty. Now the food what can I say it was great..For the appetizer we had the crab dip which was great no pics because it was devoured once it hit the table (we were a Little hungry lol) I also had their orange crush which was good to drink. For my meal I had the stuffed flounder which was so flavorful as well as the potatoes, my husband had a pasta dish with chicken mushrooms zucchini and squash ( I can’t remember the name) but I tried it and it was good. So we will definitely be coming back. If you are thinking About trying this place please do, you will not be disappointed.
Ashley Edmondson
Everything is amazing!! We had oysters & the steamed veggie plate for appetizers. The hollandaise sauce is so good that you could drink it by itself & it would be delightful! My husband & I both had shrimp & grits and it did not disappoint!

Tautog’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Restaurant, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
The restaurant is named for a local fish also known as a black fish. There is outside, patio, porch and indoor seating in this 1920s former beach cottage restaurant which gives you a different feel and atmosphere which ever section you are seated. Their specialty is 100% in seafood, so if you looking for a nicer restaurant and want seafood, you’ll be able to find something here. Plenty of staff and everyone is attentive. One block off the beach on 23rd.

Look no more, this is the place for dinner!
Same owner as Doc Taylor's. Great food taste and quality. Service is personalized and super welcoming.
Prices are very good (I'm sure they could charge way more) and I'm willing to say underpriced.
The food and drinks were amazing. I got the blackened tuna with potatoes and a (couple) Moscow mule, and it was phenomenal!
Highly highly HIGHLY recommended.
I'll have to be back tomorrow.

The hour I spent here for dinner was heavenly! My server Andrew (iirc) was very friendly and his recommendations were on-point. I had the crab soup starter, blackened tuna, and bread pudding. The prices were very fair for such a popular tourist destination. I highly recommend it!

Tautog’s is within walking distance of many hotels along the boardwalk. We lodged at the Comfort Inn & Suites and arrived to the restaurant with 5 minutes. The seating is tight on the interior but we were promptly met with ice water and a friendly waiter. The crab nachos are a commonly sought after appetizer but it failed on many levels for us. The chips were over cooked, the dish was overly cheesy and it lacked crab meat. We were able to replace it with the crab dip which was delicious. The crab legs are listed as an appetizer at $24.99, the portion size was small but were well seasoned. The sage cornmeal crusted catfish was DELIGHTFUL!
Kat Lane
Overall pretty good. The tuna sandwich was cooked perfectly but lacked any flavor. The catfish sandwich was mostly bread. The shrimp and grits were tasty. Tuna poke- small portion that wasn't cut evenly. Also don't know why it's served this way, my last bites were straight avocado
María
Excellent service! Delicious food!! There are options for everyone! The street corn is to die for!!! The server Jessie is the BEST!!! She is knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Great atmosphere!!

If you happen to accidentally stumble into a restaurant that you thought might be your Airbnb in Virginia Beach, Virginia, you might be inside Tautog's Restaurant. They specialize in tasty seafood, so if you're into seafood, ask for a table and find your Airbnb later. A Tautog, by the way, is a local fish to the area. I didn't see it on the menu, but that's probably a good thing because it's a damn ugly fish. No offense Tautog, but woof! There are lots of ugly fish out there, and this one is probably par for the course when it comes to appearance (I'm looking at you, Halibut.) Anyhow, beers to She-Crab Soup, they have you covered. And I'm not just saying that because I like beer and She-Crab Soup. Their beer selection is nice. Not overwhelming and a good variety of Virginia made brews, and their soup was warm, creamy, and delicious. For an entree, you might consider their Salmon Salad, which I found to be light and refreshing, but also hearty and filling. If you're not super into fish, but still want the experience, I would recommend the Potato Chip Encrusted Mahi. Mahi is a little more "steak" like I think when it comes to fish, and cover it in chip crumbs, how can you go wrong? My partner in crime, Kelly, really enjoyed it. Tautog's Restaurant is a great recommendation if you're looking for tasty seafood in Virginia Beach, VA.

This renovated bungalow is a hidden gem. We tried one of their special appetizers, the pimento cheese and ham. It was an amazing surprise. If you are looking for a quick snack w your drink get this. Heck get 2.
Husband got the scallops in puff pastry w the potatoes. He said in the choice between potatoes or rice the red skinned potatoes was a great choice.
I had the Mediterranean pasta. Penne pasta w shrimp ( extra) w olive oil and garlic, squash, zucchini, portabello mushrooms, and artichokes. I got their hurricane tropical drink. It was a bit to.. syrupy.. which was made better once I added some of my husband's bold rock apple.

Menu is phenomenal and price point is great at around $20 a plate. Great historic cottage preserved for the perfect maritime ambiance. Highly recommend!
Kristi Lowman
Loved this place. Brought my family here for dinner. Has a rather interesting vibe..homey yet upscale. The food and wine list are great. I had the she-crab soup & Tuna Martinique. Delicious.

This is and will always be our favorite restaurant in VirginiaBeach, rob the bartender/waiter was great. The food was delicious the oysters Rockefeller were amazing the half shell oysters were delicious. Everything here was great. The restaurant is situated in an old house one of the first on the beach and you feel like a step back in time being here. 5 stars all the way. And priced great for its location
Tammy DaSilva
Busy place, Saturday evening, service was excellent. My DP order raging scampi, not too raging as far as spice. It was okay. He also had She-Crab Soup, lots of crabmeat and full of flavor. Oysters on half shell good size and flavor. I ordered Surf and Surf, came with Tenderloin, Shrimp, scalloped potatoes and mixed vegetables with an excellent hollandaise sauce. Issue food was piled on top of each other. Other note tables really tight together.

Visiting from Rhode Island and this restaurant never disappoints. The drinks, food and staff will make you want to come back. Best dinner and vibe in VB.

Nom Nom Nom , really good food , good portions and friendly staff . Worth the wait .
TeeMom
Service: Slow but friendly
Food: Spinach dip and chips, dip is not frozen but fresh (fresh tortilla chips would be best instead of salty bagged chips). Great dip overall.
Stuffed flounder with crab... flounder not seasoned but crab and shrimp stuffing WONDERFUL!
Crab nachos... light on the crab, again bagged chips but the seasoning was great. Would be even better if they layered it like actual nachos and not just on top.
Worth a 2nd trip overall.

Amazing food at a cute historic cottage. Great service for sure. Every item we had tasted delicious. Everyone from hostesses to bartenders to servers is very professional and they all do an amazing job. Our server was Chris - he was fantastic!

While in Virginia Beach, VA were interested in having seafood and decided to try Tautog’s Restaurant based on the reviews here. It is set in an old house just off the beach.
For dinner my wife had the crab cakes with rice pilaf; I had the flounder on a bed of mushroom risotto, topped with crab meat and asparagus. Both of our meals were superb. In fact, we decided that we’d split them between us.
Our waiter was attentive and helpful in explaining the menu items. There was a choice of a half-dozen locally-brewed craft beers on tap with more in bottles. The cocktails include a number of Tautog specialties.
If you’re in Virginia Beach and looking for seafood, give Tautog’s Restaurant a try – you won’t be disappointed. Besides great food, they have free parking in the back – it doesn’t any better than that!

This is a quaint little seafood restaurant in the middle of Virginia Beach. I arrived with two kids in tow, the waitress was cheerful informative and very knowledgeable about their offerings. She noticed that I had a five year old and was asking to bring her food it first so that she didn't get rowdy. Food started with the crab nachos, man you can't go wrong with crab nachos. The waitress gave us suggestions for the youngest, buttered noodles with shrimp or chicken on the side (she loved it). My wife had the Tuna and I split the Rockfish special with my 7 year old ( her choice, she is such a little foodie). Every dish was magnificent, cooked to perfection and just melted in your mouth.
Cutting to the point, every plate was delicious and they work well with kids.

Had a great time at Tautog's. The tuna sashimi appetizer is great. I also had the the seared tuna sandwich which was huge, cooked to perfection and was delicious. The server we had tonight was exceptional, always checking on us and gave some great recommendations like the ice cream over a warm brownie, just a fantastic dessert. Come to Tautog's as much as you can, they have a friendly atmosphere and the food is exceptional. Enjoy.
Adam Higbee
The food here was off the charts. Flounder in a bag was spectacular as was the blackened tuna. Shrimp and jalapeno grits was fantastic and the house oysters were a wonderful start. Add a great little bar and you have the perfect meal.
Andrew S.
I was invited to this restaurant by a co-worker and looking at it from the front you might not realize this is a restaurant. But I'm not from Virginia Beach so this may be normal. What's not normal is the food. This was fantastic, sea scallops dressed in a beautiful butter dressing. The potatoes were exceptional. I also tried the blackened tuna. This was also excellent. Along with this dinner I enjoyed two local brews, Legend Brown Ale and Smart mouth Hefe. People of Virginia Beach, you are lucky to have this in your back yard. Truly delicious.
Zack Magnusson
Best meal I have had in months. Top 10 ever.
Raymond Fernandez
It's a mixed bag for me only because all the flavors were there, it tasted good but they when they serve me the rice with shrimp scampi the rice was not cooked well. My daughter's meal the fish in the center was still pink. Again the flavors were there, just not the attention to detail of making sure the food was cooked well.
Danielle E
The ambiance is great - small, cozy restaurant feel, the staff was very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious! My friend had the stuffed cabbage. I had a Mediterranean chicken. Would be a great place for a date night!
Joe B.
The scallops and the puff pastry was actually a really good changeup from normal scallops, the the Mediterranean pasta with olive oil and shrimp had artichoke hearts squash and zucchini and some portobello mushrooms. The pasta was very delicious and actually went well with the olive oil. For the appetizer we had the pimento cheese and ham which was also very amazing total of five stars for sure.
Michelle Obrien
Our family arrived right at 5 when they opened. We were greeted, seated, had our drink & meal orders in within 15 min! Our server was friendly & efficient. Food came out super fast. Other staff members would come by to fill water or clear plates. Really enjoyed the visit!
Sree Rathan Chadalavada
It's a place near the board walk, oyesters were great. The fish burrito was a good munch. Pasta is good too kinda big platter. Ambience 👍, hospitality ✔️. …
Marilyn L
The food & service was great! I had a great time here. I brought my baby and they were very welcoming. They were also very helpful with my orders. Thank you!!
David Bowling
Quaint little place near the strip. Rob the bartender was fantastic! I had 6 oysters on the half shell and they were amazing. They had a red snapper special but had sold out and in place of it they had local North Carolinian flounder over crab etoufee, dirty rice and a piece of jalapeño cornbread. Everything was delicious and great service.
Keith Rappold
Great food. Laid back atmosphere. In what looks like a beach house. So unassuming we almost didn't find it. The chip crusted mahi mahi was excellent. A great place to visit with friends and family.
Jo Ann Wittmann
One of our favorite restaurants. Food and service were very good We had a reservation but had to wait a bit to get seated. They are a short on help and have had to close several days a week.
Andie Ross
I would come here again. Good customer service. We loved our server, Terry, she was very accommodating. Big party and they worked with us. Someone got uncooked chicken but they were willing to fix it. Mistakes happen, especially with big parties.
Ricky Bhati
Great food, great service, local favorite. Been coming here for years everytime I'm in VA beach. Would have been 5 stars since the food and hospitality is so good, but the lack of a good A/C system really does take away from the experience, especially during humid summer days and you're sweating from just sitting there. The shrimp and grits (pictured) are my favorite, and the scampi is also really good when you order it spicy. Crab dip is tasty too.
Babak Parkhideh
Cozy place and ofcourse busy. People were nice but rushed. Serves only dinner. We got crab dip, Mahi Mahi and special Tile fish. Not impressed althogh I understand many people would live the place. Has a special twist in their food, kind of fusion style. I wish our food were more cooked. Overall recommed if you visit Vbeach.
Rob G
Marvelous experience for our 41st anniversary! Flounder with crab and shrimp in a bag (parchment paper) and Tuna Martinique (lime juice and red onions). Thanks Tautog's, our favorite restaurant at the Beach!
Ryan Silva
Started with Tuna Sashimi, had excellent seaweed cucumber salad on the side. Got peach bbq shrimp with cheddar jalapeno grits as the main dish which was also excellent. Finishing up with some bread pudding for dessert.
All the food was delicious, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The place is well worth seeking out.
John D.
Great food. Fresh and tasty. My wife and I took our 4 small children here and we found the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable even with the chaos of small children running around.
My grandmother had the crab cakes, which were mediocre, but my blackened tuna (photo) was excellent. My wife really enjoyed here salmon salad.
Ilissa Soutor
This was such a great find in VA Beach! Service was outstanding, the blackened tuna was delicious, and the atmosphere was just perfect. I will definitely be back!
Nikki Byrd
Freaking delicious. I was legit disappointed when my food was gone.
Angela “Maija” Penn
Satisfying experience! Crab nachos were so good w real good pieces of crab through out. My bf thought his founder to be very flavorful. The catfish I got was crisp and creamy.
Andrew Park
Service, atmosphere, food everthing here during my visit was perfect. I loved the fresh oyster and clam chowder they have.
You_Can_Call_Me_T_For_Short
The food was amazing! What a cute historic building! Definitely check this restaurant out!
Tonmy Ambrose
I was here for Restaurant week, they have a great dinner menu. The octopus was excellent, dessert was good too.
Missa Lynn
Delicious food and great service! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for good seafood. The wait without reservation at 6:30pm was an hour but totally worth it. The tall bar-style seats at our table were loose and not very comfortable, but the restaurant does have booths and short tables with better chairs. It was expensive but worth the price.
Demi Koulis
First off, the menu was well put together and thought out. The level of detail was on lar for a much more expensive meal and everything was executed perfectly. I got the Tuna Martinique and it was so good. The addition of feta to the perfectly cooked tuna was a nice salty savory balance and really made it a nice dish to eat. My only "complaint" was the wine list. I'm no expert, but I know a little bit and there were a few nice bottles on the list. After my first two selections were not in stock I ended up settling for something I didn't know about. Although the wine was good I think the list itself could use an update especially considering this would be a nice quiet, intimate setting for an anniversary or Valentine's day date. Overall I loved the food, atmosphere, and service and definitely would recommend.

I just remembered to review this fantastic restaurant!! This was from July. Ha. Four of us went here last minute after driving around looking for a place to eat without waiting for 2 hours. My daughter in law was navigating us around as we drove around in the rain. Seriously, what a pleasant surprise! Each of meals were fantastic and the wine was great! Steve, the bartender, was more that just that! He was so knowledgeable about wines and liquors. We talked about good wine for a good amount of time. We highly recommend this quaint little restaurant!👍🏻
Opa
I had the crab cakes and they were awesome. My wife loved her flounder. Servers we’re very attentive in a time where you can’t find good help, this was a great change of pace. I do recommend that you book a reservation, but they were able to get us in. Will be coming here again next time we are in Virginia Beach.
nicole lightfoot
It was good, however, the menu has changed. I remember there being a turkey burger and a few more non seafood choices. Nevertheless, the food was great! The server was super nice and knew the menu very well! The 4 cheese Flatbread was very good!
Jeff McJunkin
Great food, sangria was tasty if a little sweet for my taste. I had the blackened tuna, which was well-seared but otherwise very rare (as it should be)
Tatiana Malinko
Tautog's is our favorite restaurant in Virginia Beach, we come here every time we visit. They specialize in seafood, and it is outstanding! I usually order Tuna Martinique. There is an extensive wine list with some excellent offerings. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The only downside - they do not take reservations for groups less than 6, and wait time at the door averages 40 min on a weekend. But we still go, this us how much we like it. There are 2 bars, and you are welcome to wait at either with a drink. The bar in back offers full menu, and we eat there on occasion, to skip the wait. Highly recommend!
Trevor Hays
It was ok... to be honest we've been underwhelmed with most of the food selections in VB.
We didn't see the parking behind the restaraunt, so we had to park accross the street and pay 17 dollars to park... I'm not docking their rating due to that, but it would be nice to have more clarity with parking so that people don't do what we did.
Me and my wife got the she Crab soup to start. It was delicious, I loved it. I wish there was a little more Crab, but were splitting hairs here.
My wife got the Crab cake dinner...she said it was good, not fantastic, but good.
I got the catfish Po' boy... not good. The catfish breading was mushy and flavorless, no seasoning at all, no crunch at all. There was literally 4 Shredded pieces of cabbage on the whole sandwich and almost zero aioli. Needed to ask the server for some more. The chips that came with it, were random chips from a bag...they were UTZ the Crab chip chips. Just broken chips all over the plate.
We got the whiskey bread pudding with ice cream for dessert. Star of the show for me. The ice cream was a little freezer burnt, but the flavor was great.
All in all it gets 3 stars. The server was fantastic. She killed it. Very kind, polite, attentive. The meal did take a long time, from start to finish was almost 2 hours...since they weren't too busy you'd expect a little faster. The soup and dessert were great, the Crab cakes were decent, the catfish po boy was a big big miss. The ambience is ok, wish we could've sat inside but we weren't given that option. The price was pretty reasonable.
Joshua Buachie
This restaurant was amazing. I only give it 4 stars because the fish in a bag wasn't as explosive as I expected to be. Taste was there but needed a little bit more. BUT my wife's dish oh my goodness, I wish I had more of that lol. Not only the food but the staff was awesome, the waiter was amazing, the vibe in the restaurant was awesome. A little crowdy but I don't mind. I'll come again
AG Gonzalez
Food and service was great! We didn't have a reservation but were seated within a half hour. A definite must go for dinner then find some live music and entertainment in the area.
Kirt McReynolds
Awesome Crab Nachos. Main course of Potato Chip Encrusted Mahi was excellent as well.
Oscar Reyes
This place is a must if you're in VA Beach. Great little place that you can miss if you don't have the address. Great local spot for some terrific seafood, great atmosphere! Loved the blackened tuna, it was terrific.
Weston Hall
Great service and friendly staff. Decent prices also. We had there special which was nice. It is owned by the same people who own Doc taylors. So you know it's good right off the bat
Brendan
Whenever we visit Virginia Beach we have dinner at Tautog’s! Excellent food, friendly service and reasonable prices.
Megan Whitt
The food was fantastic and the service beyond great. Our waiter, Don, had great suggestions and was extra conscientious of the kids and their needs. (Seriously, ask for Don). Wonderful experience in a quaint little seafood joint. Definitely try the bread pudding!
Trinity Taylor
Great service! The staff were very attentive & accommodating! The food was delicious too! Next time Im in VA Im definitely going back!
Chip Decker
Sat at the bar, had a salmon salad. Forgot to order it without gorgonzola and they graciously removed it for me. Service from bartender Steve was great, made me a nice lemon martini. Will be back to try other dishes.
Chris Abbott
Great food, great service, and great prices! Highly recommend.

Good restaurant with nice, fresh food and friendly, attentive staff. The parking space behind the house is helpful.
Tan Harris
Delicious food. Friendly staff. It's a small space but it's a must to visit if you come to Virginia Beach. It's a local favorite.
Kendog 757
This is a must visit breakfast place I’ve been here for the last 10 years. Food is always outstanding and Fresh service is very good!
Definitely one of the locals top choices!
Jenn Coffill
My new favorite seafood restaurant. Cozy feel and fresh food. We ordered the local tuna and flounder in a bag. Fantastic service as well
Chelsie Cahoon
My favorite restaurant in Virginia Beach! They have the BEST she crab soup I’ve ever had and I’ve been to a ton of places to get this soup. It’s creamy and has chunks of crab meat which you can’t find everywhere. They also have amazing crab dip. Everything they have on the menu is fantastic! I recommend it to anyone who comes here. You won’t regret it!!
Father James Cairns
I do not eat seafood personally, but the rest of my family loves it. Every time we visit Virginia Beach we have to stop at this restaurant. The food is always phenomenal, the atmosphere is amazing, and we always have a great time. And there's always a few items on the menu for this non-seafood lover to enjoy.
Franzi xxx
Some of the best salmon I have ever had in my life! The server was very nice too.
Timmy Jones
Food was delicious in a deliriously busy atmosphere. The waitress made the experience. The atmosphere.
R
Food was excellent. My wife and I had the shrimp and grits and the catfish. Absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and very courteous. Whenever we are in Virginia Beach, we will be eating at this little oasis
Chris
Genuinely nice little joint. Not a typical Virginia Beach tourist trap but a place with good service and better food where the locals eat.
Debi Kellogg
Had dinner with my husband here 4/7/2022. The scallops Barca were the best scallops I’ve ever eaten. Beautiful interior, very cozy and inviting. Staff were friendly. Reservations recommended, we went right at 5 pm when they opened and people were lined up to get in.
Samantha D
Server was great. Good gluten free selection. Delicious appetizers. Overall, a nice evening out.
Steve Raybould
Don't let the humble building throw you. The food was beyond compare, the wine list was excellent, the food was plentiful and cooked to perfection and our server made the evening even better. When we go again, we will make reservations next time, but the wait was not unreasonable and it was well worth it.
Randall Stempler
Excellent friendly service with wonderfully prepared fresh fish and seafood. Reasonable prices. Enjoyed the she-crab soup. The blackened tuna was superb. Perfectly rare to medium rare. (I had it without the cheese or relish.) Potatoes are amazing. Even the broccoli was excellent.
Erin Collard
We love this place. The food is always fantastic and the service great.
Linda Hill
This is my first time at Virginia Beach and it won’t be my last…..this restaurant was highly recommended and the food is awesome! Atmosphere was friendly and you could relax having dinner! I will be back next year…..gotta try the crab nachos…..I had the stuffed flounder in a bag……can’t eat the bag……😂😂 with shrimp and crab meat…..it was delicious!
Stephanie Grandstaff
The setting is an historic home a block from the beach, one of our favorite parts about this place. Local treasure, very warm, unique menu, good food, and the best she crab soup I've ever had! (And we've been to VAB a LOT!)
LaToyce Smith
Great food and service. Jessie is an excellent server and made dinner even more enjoyable.
Gordon Shaffer
Quaint, casual dining inside a neighborhood beach house. Free parking around back. Excellent dishes at comparable prices for the area. We started w a bowl of the popular She Crab Soup. Followed by the Martinique Tuna w roasted potatoes and the Tilapia Crab AuGratin. I liked mine, but felt my tuna was a bit dry and one note, while my wife's tilapia was moist & flakey and possessing more favor. My wife wants to return for the very popular Shrimp 'n Grits.
Kim Baldini
Food was very good. Loved the she-crab soup!!! The steamed shrimp appetizer was also delicious. Service and atmosphere were mediocre.
Peggy Costello
Very nice. Loved the fact is was a home at one time. Very clean and service very good. Within walking distance of my hotel and the beach.
Rutger Wheaton
Ensconced in a modest beach cottage off the main drag, this gem of a restaurant has fantastic she crab soup...order lots of it! The four of us had different dishes, all good: stuffed flounder in a bag (truly!), shrimp and grits, raw oysters, nice and plump. Bread pudding desert tasted like French toast and was excellent. Wonderful server talked a mile a minute and was most entertaining. Don't miss!
april delaney
Best experience that you ever have beautiful people great staff really get what you want to eat
Bo Heinemeyer
Freshest seafood I have ever ate. Waiter was helpful and the food selection was great. Atmosphere is amazing, this is a must stop type of restaurant.
Shabnam M
Super tasty food, small size portions. Not a fancy place, a little dark but the food was delicious. Ordered the crab cakes
Mike Nowak
Every single item we had was wonderful. Oysters, fish, crabcakes, even the key lime pie was great! Plus for what we ordered, the price was great! I felt like it was a bit of a risk in terms of the area (which is quite touristy) that this might not be as good, but I would absolutely come back again.
Sonja
This is one of my happy places when we're at Virginia Beach! Most recent meal was Friday night, Easter weekend! So, so delicious! Always great service! I love their ginger ninja.... great way to start my meal. Also, we never go that we don't start with crab nachos! Even my celiac can eat those!
Miya Washington
The service and food was great. We got the flounder in the bag and it was amazing as well as the bread pudding
Jacqueline Rubal
The food was amazing!! Best crab cakes I’ve ever had and the scallops in a puff pastry were to die for. My husband had a shrimp scampi that was excellent and a scallop appetizer that he was crazy about. The Staff(Chris) was wonderful and couldn’t have been more helpful. He converted entrees to appetizer portions so we were able to try everything we wanted to. All in all an exceptional experience and I can’t wait to return.
Jason Winckel
Food and service was excellent. Went to a few "popular" beach spots during my stay and they were decent. They were all remodeled versions of their predecessor with average food. Tautog's never deviated and remains a staple. Small, original atmosphere with impeccable service and excellent food.
Steve (assistant manager/bartender/server) was fantastic. His charisma and attitude is contagious. I will be back this week before I leave VB and many times in the near future.
William Martin
My favorite local restaurant. I no longer live in Virginia but I crave this place when I am away. They are consistent in quality and that extends to the service as well as the food. I am a huge fan of oysters and the Rockefeller here is phenomenal. The specials are just that, special. In addition they always have a great selection of wine for any price point.
Kirk Seither
Shared the Seafood Burrito with my wife and had a caesar salad, both being very good. We shared the brownie with ice cream with six of us which made it just right for all of us to have a taste. We've been here numerous times and plan on coming here every time we come in the fall of the year as we do. Great restaurant!
Freda Stewart
We did not have reservations the hostess was great. We was seated right away.
Marvin Wolf
Overpriced, mediocre food but great service
Kurt Seifert
Blackened tuna is a life changer. Fantastic decor and down to earth staff. Crab dip app was fantastic as well. Most entrees are under $20 and are premium quality. If you're looking for great seafood and good prices you can't go wrong here.
Sabbir Al Masum
I had crab cakes here which is mediocre compared to Ruth's Chris. The baked oysters were good and salmon salad was good.
Neal Carnaby
Excellent food in a cozy setting. The scallops were fresh and well prepared. The bread pudding dessert was great and the soup was wonderful.
jamison weaver
Grew up in Va. Beach. Easily one of the top 3 restaurants at oceanfront. Terrific atmosphere in old beach cottage. Excellent service. Have thoroughly enjoyed every meal over several years of dining here. Definitely not a tourist vibe in an area that is completely covered in places that cater to tourists. Make reservations and please, have the courtesy to at least call if you need to cancel your reservation. DBADB.
Hazem Elhady
The food was very good, but a bit pricy, the staff is very helpful, but the tables are too close together. It's wheel chair accessable, but just barely.
Vicky Healthy Eats
My husband and I come to this restaurant about twice a yr because we live out of state. The food and drinks are always great. I had the soft crab for the first time ever and it was so good. I always order the ninja ginger martini, which makes the food even better. The staff is always welcoming and we're always satisfied when leaving there... Good place to eat, so enjoy!!!!
Maryssa Oliver
I cannot express enough how fantastic this restaurant is in every single way. The food was incredible (without being too fishy tasting), and the employees and service were the absolute best. The waiters never let my water be half empty and asked how we were liking everything. The parking director outside told us to get the crab nachos and oh my goodness— they are incredible. I cannot wait to go back to this place!
Elizabeth Lasseigne
Consistently delicious food and great service! One of our favorite restaurants!
Jules S
The service was very good. We had the restaurant week menu. The descriptions were better than the food. The octopus tacos were great but my tuna was seriously overcooked and not particularly flavorful. I will go back. The desserts were not very good. They had very reasonable wine prices. I know a lot of restaurants are having staffing issues during covid, so hopefully the food quality will be better as it has been in the past. I will go back.
Donta Sharpe
Absolutely the best food I've had in Virginia since coming here in 2016. Our waiter Chris was awsome, and described the menu to a tee. Had the crab nachos as an appetizer, and it was amazing. Cajun shrimp and potatoe chip crushed Mahi were cooked perfectly. I will absolutely dine here again!!!
Yvette Couch
The scallops were absolutely amazing. I spent the next day comparing them and that restaurant failed miserably in composites to these. Hubby had the tuna and really enjoyed it. We had one small issue and it was immediately rectified by the manager. They take their business seriously and the food shows it. The staff is friendly and we meet some great customers as well. Highly recommend visiting here!
Chad Simons
Hotel told us this was a local favorite and bow we know why . Food was fresh and flavorful our waitress was great . We had a little wait but not to bad . Definitely worth the wait!
Edward Aretz
Food was above average. Staff disorganized. We sat outside because it was full inside. Took more than 15 minutes to take our order. There are four or five tables outside and there were four different waiters serving them. This is just. Bad organization.
Todd Sites
Incredible food at very reasonable prices. Our server, Chris, was very nice and informative. He was excellent in making sure we had everything we wanted. Definitely a place to visit if you have the chance!
Ryan Steffen
Really good. Busy, but the bar does full service, so we bypassed the 30 minute wait. Food was great. Oysters Rockefeller and She-crab soup was excellent. Salad was fine, though the blue cheese dressing was pretty thin and short on flavor. That said, I'd definitely come back.
G S
Crab legs were on the dine-in and take-out printed as well as online menu. We arrived just to find out they did not have them. Very pleasant and helpful server informed us steamed crab legs are in shortage! We ended up ordering crab cakes. Well, not very good....not lump crab meat.
Chris Campbell
Excellent food and service! Been several times, never disappointed. Chris is a great waiter.
Tammara Miller
Oh my gosh, just great! All of my years coming to Virginia Beach, I had no idea this unassuming little place was here. After a Google search and reading the reviews, I decided to get some food to go. In a nutshell, super fresh vegetables in my salad, the best she-crab soup I have ever had... The crab itself was outrageously tender and delicious. And the shrimp and grits... to die for. Super fresh, cooked so well, incredibly tasty. And what a cute, conveniently placed location. This will definitely be a regular go to on future visits. And next time I will eat in so I can take advantage of their awesome little bar.
William Stephens
The staff was very friendly and attentive to all customers. The NC Flounder special was delicious! The crab dip with the seasoned bread was a great start to a delicious meal.
Jan Kurtz
Delicious food, great service, nice atmosphere! Our fish was cooked perfectly. We eat there every time we're in Virginia Beach.
John Crawford
If you're looking for quality seafood in a casual atmosphere, this is a great choice! The salmon chowder, spicy tuna appetizer, and crab stack were amazing! They have weekly rotating specials in addition to the standard menu.
Dima & Natasha Bogdanoff
We started with the crab soup and it was delicious. Local beers were good too! Service was great!
Tuna nachos were 2 stars (salty, with salad dressing and no cheese). Shrimp and Grits were disappointing as well (maybe I was comparing it to the what we had in Savannah, and had high expectations?! The buttom line, it was with BBQ like source and no bacon, the greets has some lumbs).
Debra Hoover
By far, the best seafood we had while in Virginia Beach. Will be returning in future visits.
Jennifer Parson
Overall my food was pretty good. I ordered salmon with seaweed salad and a side of potatoes. My salmon was perfect, the seaweed salad was the best part, but there was hardly any on the plate. They charged me $2.50 to get an additional small cup of seaweed salad. They potatoes were half mashed and half not and they were cold with a strange oil that didn't taste good.
The atmosphere was really nice, but the tables are crammed in so tight that waiters kept bumping into my chair. This would not be a good place for anyone with mobility needs, anxiety, or claustrophobia. The parking is wonderful because they have a parking attendant just for the restaurant, but once again mobility may be an issue on gravel.
This was a fun place to try, but I don't think we'll come back.
Bird Person
My wife and I went on a three day vacation in VA Beach. We asked the locals what their favorite restaurant was. Many of them quickly answered tautog's, along with captain George's. We decided to try Tautogs because it was close to our hotel. It did not disappoint! Our waiter Chad was fantastic, and the food was excellent! We already plan on visiting this restaurant again when we return next year for vacation again. Truly one of the best places I have ever eaten! I love that it's sort of hidden and the atmosphere was something really special. I can not recommend this place enough.
Doug McFarland
Had a short spring break trip with my three teenage kids and went to Tautog's our first night for casual, convenient food upon our arrival. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful in explaining wait times. It was worth the 20 min wait on a Saturday night. Atmosphere is casual and has enough spacing to make you feel very comfortable and relaxed. Service was very prompt and the wait staff was pleasant and enjoyable - interacted well with my kids. Food was WONDERFUL - fresh, flavorful and well presented. Stuffed flounder in a bag was great, crabcakes were great and the special of tilapia on asparagus was very well prepared. RECOMMEND FOR ALL!
Dexter Pagtalunan
Friendly staff, thank you for being kind. The food? One of the best restaurant I been in. Try the stuffed flounder in a bag...
Casey Wesdock
Tautog's is THE Virginia Beach experience. Great atmosphere and food. Feels like good ole days, before VA Beach became a popular tourist attraction.
Dallas Lynch
Surprised. Walking down the street. Actually going somewhere different. It was getting later in the evening. Didn't wait more than 3-5 min. choice of sitting up high or down low. Service was great. People & staff very friendly. OMG our bar mate "Robert." THE BEST. His recommendations, history of the place, selections of music, conversations, just made our visit so enjoyable. Will be back.
Barbara Baise
Has parking behind building accessible between buildings to left of front door. Full bar. Went on Valentine's Day with parents and teenage children and we were all pleased. Bennys oysters and oysters on the half shell were delicious. Crab dip was good. Steamed shrimp was perfectly seasoned with old bay. Tuna was well done but still tasty. Crabcakes were not lump which the server conveyed before we ordered and they were tasty. No real complaints overall. We enjoyed the family-style ambience. For us, we enjoy trying a new spot together as a family and are not out to critique. If the drinks and service are adequate, we are happy.
Laverne Williamson
We went to Tautog’s based on a recommendation from a waitress where we ate breakfast. Then another recommendation from a couple who were riding the bus. Wow. Not sure how to describe it. It was awesome. We had the crab nachos to start with. She-crab soup was delicious. And my husband had the fish special - catch of the day. And enjoyed the homemade sangria. We wanted to go back for dessert but didn’t have time. And we were just to full for dessert but definitely sounded good!
Eron Cohen
Food was better than average overall. The cream of crab soup was excellent. The entrees were ok.
Great atmosphere. Wait service started off good, but we were eventually ignored to the point we had not seen our waiter for over 25 minutes. He served our meal and we didn't see him again until we asked the hostess for our check. The dessert options looked nice but since the service was poor we decided to go elsewhere.
Seona Lee
My partner and I visited Virginia Beach last month and dined at Tautog's based on local friend's strong recommendation. Needless to say, we were both blown away by the amazing food and wine (recommended by staff) we had there, as well as the cozy atmosphere!
For anyone who plans to dine here, please do try their local clam appetizer as well as their she-crab soup. Their she-crab soup is so rich with flavor that you'd think 100+ crabs have been used to create just a single cup of soup. I grew up in New Orleans eating plenty seafoods, and this is the best crab soup I have ever had hands down.
As for the main dish, I had stuffed flounder in a bag and my partner had blackened tuna, both of which were absolutely scrumptious. And don't forget to try their bread pudding for dessert too. It tastes just like ones you would get in Louisiana, which is near impossible to find elsewhere.
If you want to taste the best seafood you've ever had in your life, go to Tautog's. They know what they are doing and more.
Ms. T
This was our first place to eat on our first VA trip and was the best restaurant of all the ones we went to on our 6 day trip. Service was excellent! Manager and staff have pride in their establishment. Food was fresh and so delicious! Creative dishes. Even broccoli was superb! Cant wait to go back.
J Smith
Every dish is worth five stars.
My family makes it a point to eat here every time we're in VA Beach. At this point, we have ordered every item on the menu at least once. Crab Nachos are a must. Staff is exceptional.
Joseph Venable
This is one of our favorite special occasion local seafood restaurants. Entrees are in the $15-$20 price range, which, for us, makes this an occasional treat. My wife's favorite dish is their version of shrimp and grits. I, too, have enjoyed this dish several times, and it is top-shelf! I also love their baked scallops in a pastry bowl--sooo good. I've sampled other dishes, and they were all equally tasty. The servers have all been consistently friendly and attentive. This restaurant is in a converted rustic beach house in the block between Atlantic and Pacific Avenues, which is a nice setting. There are some outdoor tables available, which can be nice when the temperatures are pleasant. All in all, a wonderful dining experience--always look forward to our next opportunity to visit!
chad dorsk
Hands down, the top of Virginia Beach seafood dining experiences. Amazing spot, have the tuna tower, the flounder, and a nice beer. Afterward, walk the boardwalk. Special place!
Jessica Noble
I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! The food was delicious! If they have the grilled calamari appetizer as a special do yourself a favor and get it! The service was great and it was a lovely atmosphere a couple blocks from the beach. You can tell there's a lot of love going into their menu from the originality and thoughtfulness of their specials to the Virginia craft beers they pick to serve. I highly recommend eating here!
Claudia Lajtar
AMAZING quality seafood. The she-crab soup here is the best I’ve ever had, I’d seriously come back to Virginia just for that soup 😩 The people working here are so welcoming and kind. They always made sure we were taken care of and enjoyed our time. 10/10 recommend going to Tautog’s! …
Derik Perry
Enjoyed dinner with the family there. It was busy on a Monday night, so get there early. Despite the crowd, the service was smooth and satisfactory. The food was generous and very tasty. I had the Snapper Mediterranean with a rice pilaf and a side of broccoli. Very good food. Deserts were also rich and flavorful.
Harry Blalock
Absolutely excellent food and service. Everybody loved their dishes. My friend told me I had to try the bread pudding, so I had a bite of hers, and it was amazing. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Nicolas Ouimet
Really unique restaurant. Great food, friendly and competent staff, and available parking. Highly recommend!
robert branc
The food was great. The wait was horrible, seemed not enough help to take care of customers. Having no reservations is a problem, this way you folks can control the wait time. Getting the food out from the kitchen to the table allows for fast table turnover. I probably wouldn’t eat again at your restaurant until you make reservations available to the customers. It’s all about customer service. Try Pop’s Diner to check out the service, no longer than 5 minute wait after placing the order. They turn their tables quickly. They do not take reservations because the wait is never long, my experience.
itsabree
This is a cozy family seafood restaurant. Of course, a little pricey but well worth it. I ordered the she-crab soup and the oyster appetizer of the day and was fully satisfied. The rest of my family ordered different popular dishes off the menu and everyone loved what they had. If you're looking for fine family dining right near the boardwalk, this is it.
Katie Beaumont
Visited here a few months ago. Our server, Brian, was attentive and very helpful with suggestions. We had the lobster mac and cheese as an appetizer, the shrimp and grits, and the crab legs. Everything was fantastic. Would recommend to anyone looking for good seafood and drinks by the beach!
Della McCallister
I've eaten dinner there twice this week and everytime it's been delicious!
Melinda Carbaugh
Food, atmosphere, staff chefs. 5 stars from start to finish! Bravo Tautog's!!
Greg Sullivan
The restaurant is named for a local fish also known as a black fish. There is outside, patio, porch and indoor seating in this 1920s former beach cottage restaurant which gives you a different feel and atmosphere which ever section you are seated. Their specialty is 100% in seafood, so if you looking for a nicer restaurant and want seafood, you’ll be able to find something here. Plenty of staff and everyone is attentive. One block off the beach on 23rd.
Timothy Hutchison
We had a great night at Tautog's! Everyone we met from the host, to the bartender, to the waitress was super nice. The place is cozy and eclectic and the food was great. Highly recommend the "stuffed founder in a bag", flounder stuffed with crab meat and shrimp and baked inside of a parchment bag. My wife had one of the specials that she also loved. A true hidden, local gem.
Simon T Katan
The service was good, the food avarage.
Jessica K
Wonderful food. Very polite and patient even in the middle of busy service during these covid times. I had their tuna special with sweet plantains and pineapple salsa. It was amazing. I wanted the tuna rare and was not disappointed. I would have taken a picture if I hadn't immediately dove in and messed up the presentation. Highly recommended.
IMPORTANT. There is parking in the back for restaurant customers.
Rada Livits
Great food. Amazing service. Will definitely be back.
Chris Sprenkle
Great food and great service. Prices are a little high, but the quality makes up for it. If you like cheese and flatbreads, the 4 cheese pizza is a great appetizer. 8 mini slices, perfectly shareable or eat for one, either way it is a must eat. Staff is friendly and prompt and Zach is a great waiter.
Miss Miss
We was visiting VA Beach for the weekend. Stop in @Tautog Restaurant, the wait time was about 30 mins. Well worth the wait. We got the appetizer, crab nachos. This dish was so good, if u are in the area, Please stop in. The restaurant looks like a house, the service was good. Everyone was so friendly. We will be back again...
William Pate
This is a frequent visit on any trip to VB. We enjoy the fresh seafood. I had a South American twist on a tuna plate that was delicious. We were told we would have a 30 minute wait on a Friday night but were seated by the time the bartender was able to serve drinks. Staff is excellent as well as the food and the location is quaint.
Jerilyn Monts
Cannot recommend the Mahi entree enough. Sauce combination with the crunch of the potato chip encrusted fish and a squeeze of fresh lemon - just perfect! Excellent service as well from the door to our bartender/waiter. COVID precautions in place and all felt safe. Don’t forget to grab a t-shirt!
Parisah Troy
Sarah was our server and bar tender - she was fantastic! She makes a great dirty martini, and provided excellent recommendations and service. I ordered the she crab soup (really yummy) and I love how she brought an extra spoon for my husband to try it (it's these little gestures that she excelled at). My husband and I are generally not ones to complain about food or service. When we asked for our tuna steaks to be made medium-rare and they came to the table well-done, I just remarked quietly to my husband that we should have ordered rare. Sarah continuously checked on us as we enjoyed our meal. We were about halfway through, when she noted that our steaks were overcooked and she promptly took them away from from us and brought us dishes with medium-rare tuna steaks (which were buttery, tender, and vastly tastier). I don't know that we'll ever vacation in Virginia Beach, again, but if we do, Tautog's will definitely be where we dine.
Kevin Marsh
Unimpressed with some other Virginia Beach restaurants I asked a friend (he's a local) where I could find the best seafood joint in the area. Without hesitation he recommended Tautog's and added, "...now, it looks like a house, not a restaurant. So don't be afraid to walk though the front door."
In short, good call. Great food. Impressive wine selection (for a beach joint). Prompt, courteous service. This is the place you need to go if you're looking for an authentic east coast beach restaurant. Not fancy. Just good.
Marissa Ruchlin
The food here was very good! We didn't have a long wait. My boyfriend got the crab cakes, they were delightfully crabby, with super creamy potatoes. I got the salmon special with calamari salad, the salmon was amazing! I also tried the house sangria (loved it) and the hurricane (too sweet for my taste).
Overall we really enjoyed this place. It's a short walk from the boardwalk and well worth the trip.
adam lindenfelser
Great friendly service. I had the flank steak and potatoes was very delicious. Also the Key Lime pie was really good. Pricing was also better than expected and portion size was also good. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town.
Andrew Szala
Great atmosphere if you want to step off Atlantic and away from the crowds for a nice dinner. Service was great, and the shrimp and grits were delicious. Shrimp scampi was just as good, but really needs a vegetable on the side.
Roberta Green
Think waiter may have been new. Somewhat forgetful and seem hassled. We ate crab cake and catfish entrees. Both were good. Key lime pie EXCELLENT.
Christopher Jolly
Good price about $20 a plate. Good seafood but gets better when you get something besides fish. Atmosphere is good. Sit at the small bar or on the front patio. Service is excellent and friendly. Only question is overall cleanliness. Its an older building that should invest in modifications
Adam Coleman
Passed by this place multiple times in Virginia Beach but never stopped. Finally did and mad we didn't earlier. Service was top notch. Beverages and staff were excellent and scenery was inviting and comfortable. Food was off the charts good! Items ordered were Oysters Rockefeller, Tuna Martinique, Scallops, and Stuffed Flounder. Zero complaints. We will now be frequenting.
Duane Paul
My wife and I were there during our visit to Virginia Beach. This place was the suggestion of our son's in laws who live nearby. We had great food, great service, good drinks and great company. Everything was delicious, and leave room for the apple cinnamon bread pudding a la mode for dessert...😋👍 …
Katie Sutherland
Everytime we come to Virginia Beach we eat here! The spinach artichoke dip was delicious! My favorite. The crab cakes are a must try! The best.
Steve Morris
My daughter Katie and I love fish and seafood. A friend of a friend who lives in Virginia Beach recommended Tautog’s restaurant and we went and the next night we went back because the food and service were unbelievable. The flounder in a bag was one of the best dinners either one of us had ever had and it was an exceptional value. Our waiter Paul was exceptional, knew the menu in detail and always appeared at the moment we needed anything. I will sail back to VB just to have dinner at Tautog’s.
Laura Bluestone
First visit, and I'll definitely go back! The She-crab soup was full of crab, and the best I've ever had! The flounder in a bag was delicious. The wait staff is very friendly. The whole experience was amazing!
Jeff Scott
This place is soooooo awesome, wait staff, bartenders, everyone. The food, always has been outstanding, been going there for years! Just tried the blackened Tuna with Gorgonzola cheese.. oh man!!! This is a must when at the beach!
audrey roller
My husband and I ate here last night...There are so many great things we can say about you guys. It gets busy fast but even in what us locals consider "the off season" that staff and kitchen are on point. We had the crab dip for an appetizer -- Oh my god heavenly. I had Blackened Tuna and my Hubs had the Ginger Glazed Salmon...all AMAZING. We left perfectly happy and satiated. I will forever recommend you to all our friends and fam...we will be back soon!

Quaint little place with a nice selection of items. I had the Flat Iron which for $20 was a solid deal. Did some Garlic bread as app and washed it down with a sugar rimmed Blood Orange Margarita. Genuine atmosphere and good food. Only one bad thing and that was that they over cooked my steamed broccoli to mush. I their defense they did take it off of the the bill. Service was attentive. For beach town food I definitely would go back. Especially for the cocktails.
Chris Stout
Should have stuck with the seafood. They had a New York Strip steak on the specials menu and the waiter recommended it, but it was definitely not worth the $28 price tag. The steak was very fatty and the sauce was very heavy. I told the waiter I was disappointed and he was nice enough to give me 20% off the steak. Had a great experience a couple months ago for breakfast at Doc Taylors but if I go back for dinner, it won't be for the steak. Stick with the fish! Excellent environment in the restaurant and the service is very good.
Rebecca Trott
This restaurant was wonderful! We went last night and ordered several appetizers. The muscles were amazing!!!! The oysters were fresh!!! The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the waitstaff were kind and professional. Such a wonderful experience. Would go back to Virginia Beach just for this place!
S Vaksman
Very friendly staff, especially the bartender. Food was slightly above average, just a little on the bland side. Very well done menu with a fairly wide range of entrees and apps. I would definitely come here again. Also very reasonably priced, especially compared to many other comparable places in the Virginia Beach area.
Violet Ortiz
Look no more, this is the place for dinner! Same owner as Doc Taylor's. Great food taste and quality. Service is personalized and super welcoming. Prices are very good (I'm sure they could charge way more) and I'm willing to say underpriced. The food and drinks were amazing. I got the blackened tuna with potatoes and a (couple) Moscow mule, and it was phenomenal! Highly highly HIGHLY recommended.
Dunderfut
Food is always awesome, drinks are just as tasty. You can't go wrong here. Don't sleep on the specials. They are always refreshing and mouthwatering! Buy fresh, buy local
Douglas Starks
I take the family here every time I come to Virginia Beach but this time was something special. Of all the restaurants I've been to since things started opening from the pandemic Tautog's was by far the best experience. The tables were spaced out so everyone was distanced and the staff was very accommodating and all taking precautions very seriously. They have the best key lime pies too, I got 6 to bring back to my neighbors!
Molly James
Upon arrival it was real busy but you could order a drink at the bar and enjoy it outside in the designated area. 30 minute wait for Thursday night at around 6pm. Had the special which was Swordfish steak. It was so good one minute it was on my plate the second it was gone!!!! Absolutely a nice refreshing meal. We also had the Corbys Crab Dip , yummy! Some people complain about the Chips they use but the dip is what its about. The She Crab soup was savory, buttery, and full of delightful happiness, the stuffed flounder in a bag was wonderful according to my girlfriend. The staff was friendly and busting their butts to get stuff out and to make sure we were taken care of. Will go back again for sure.
Mallary Matney
Wonderful food. Amazing drinks. Great intimate atmosphere. Super close to the beach. Its mildly pricey, but no more than any other seafood restaurant near the beachfront. Food is sourced locally as I've been told. Missing one star because of slowish service but it was not on the waiter. We came at a busy time.
Barbara R
My husband and I had our first date here 20+ years ago and the food, atmosphere, and service is just as great now as it was then!!
Highly recommend taking advantage of the crab nachos...DELISH!!! Also the rock fish with Brie cream sauce, Brussels and rice was out of this world!!!! The entire staff is warm and friendly...Brian took great care of us...Drinks were also perfect!!! Love Tautog’s!
Dean Fesperman
Good food and service. The crab soup was very good, along with the Greek Salad.
Matthew Rodriguez
Good place for seafood; not good for kids
I initially gave the place 4stars because I thought it was pricey. However, compared to the area it is quite similar and in my opinion the food is better. Amazing seafood tastes as if it's prepared by world class chefs. The ambiance is very quaint: the restaurant actually looks as if it's a residential house. This place is a must-do in VA Beach. Keep in mind, though, that there is no kids menu.
Joseph Borger
My wife and I have been coming here since 2003. Always delicous menu items (fresh seafood) and cocktails. The best staff. And we always see our favorite waitress Jessie. She's the best! Go there!
Jess Tracy
Dave was an excellent and attentive server. Wine selection was excellent. Seafood very well done. For the beach area, well priced! Many times to VA Beach, first time here. Glad I came! Wait may be a bit longer than other places, but appreciate quaint atmosphere, food, and service makes it so . :)
Alex Lipinski
I would give this place more stars if I could! This was the best restaurant we attended on our trip to VA beach. The service was incredibly attentive and the server insisted that my partners tuna be recooked because he didn't think the temperature was right. We had the appetizer special: a scallop dish with a rich sauce, the blackened tuna cooked rare, and the dinner special: a tropical swordfish dish. Everything was absolutely incredible. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Jake White
Dave P knew his stuff and made awesome recommendations. The steamed broccoli with hollandaise was simple and elegant. Wife had blackened tuna that she has had little success with, but said was the best she ever had and really enjoyed. Not liking seafood, I had Mediterranean chicken that had absolutely no fish taste and was superb. The atmosphere was casual and laid back. A little on the noisy side while not too busy, but still easy to talk.
Michael Holohan
Always fresh. Cooked to order. Family owned establishment where long time locals go to enjoy a meal. Menu has lots of options and many have great twists on common themes. Wait staff are uncommonly polite and can carry on intelligent conversations with guests. Quaint seaside cottage atmosphere. A unique experience every time.
Molly McCullough
The food was outstanding, and our server, Chris, was so personable and attentive! We sat on the heated, enclosed patio. The prices were very reasonable in my opinion. We had the crab legs and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were fantastic -the best I have ever had! Creamy and just a tiny kick from the jalepeno but also sweet from the sauce (like a sweet BBQ sauce), and there were 9 shrimp in my serving. We got there at about 6:30 on a Thursday night. And by 7:30 the place was packed and there was a line, so we made note of this to get there early next time. We will definitely be back!!
Vicki Edwards
Excellent! The menu is amazing and makes me want to eat there everyday for a month just to try all the dishes. I had the scallops on my first trip and they were perfectly cooked - not rubber over cooked just perfect.
Claire Jeske
This place had delicious foods at a reasonable price! The atmosphere was quiet and welcoming, and as a visitor who has never been to the east coast it was cool to see the local history and architecture. They also accommodated myself and several friends with mobility needs and equipment without difficulty, which should always be the case but rarely is. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
Shannon Kaye Germanos
A truly great beach restaurant. It's a very casual setting with first class, fresh seafood and wonderful southern desserts. Some of the entrees are caught right from the local fishing pier down the block. The tuna steaks are two inches thick and prepared to your taste. In our party of seven, there were no disappointments. Every dish was flavorful and perfect. Our server Hannah was a delight. There can be a wait, but it will be worth it. If you have a larger party, call ahead to see if you can make a reservation.
Allura Wright
Ordering experience over the phone was wonderful. Benny's Oysters were delicious. Probably the best Salmon I've ever had, perfectly cooked.
Brenton LaTour
I had the Mid-Atlantic pasta with chicken and pesto cream which was great. The chicken seemed to be marinated or cooked with white wine which tasted very good. My wife had the Barco scallops. She enjoyed it but mentioned it was a bit salty. The staff was attentive and quick. The food came fairly fast too.
Brent Richards
We were a pretty large party of 7 and from the moment we walked in the wait staff bent over backwards to accommodate us. They were always friendly and there was a young boy there helping who was very mindful and had great manners. The food was fantastic and well worth the price. The only complaint I have is that we couldn't stay longer. Next time we're in town I will definitely make an effort to eat there again. Thank you guys. Keep up the great work!
John
Good food at a reasonable price. Seating and restaurant was intimate with a cozy feel. I would go back. Menu was flexible and diet friendly. Could improve spices and brighten presentation a bit as plates seemed a bit plain. No "hook", they don't serve fresh bread or nibbles at the table and I thought that was kind of odd. Limited desert menu but seemed fresh and delicious. Only two vegetables presented as fresh cooked. So in summary food was good but menu and presentation had room for improvement.
Jeffrey Washington
Corby's Original Crab Dip and chips appetizer was so good we had to order two rounds of it. Excellent choice. There wasn't one drop left in the bowl. The Ginger Teriyaki-Glazed Salmon was perfect! The Key-lime pie top off the perfect Seafood meal. The staff exhibited great customer service. If you are in the area of the restaurant don't pass up eating there!
Heather
This was my first time here and I loved it! I ordered the shrimp & grits with the she-crab soup as an appetizer. Both dishes were amazing -- fantastic consistency and flavor. I was so impressed. Will definitely be back again.
Ivan Turgenev
Spectacular seafood dinner. Snapper, salmon, delicious sides galore, and a cozy dining room that values intimacy vs glam.
Sugatrice
This is a very nice restaurant in Virginia Beach and I was excited to try the food as a visitor from out of state. The restaurant itself is nice and quaint with very nice staff. They are VERY on top of great customer service and making sure all empty plates and such are taken care of. The She Crab soup was too watery and it lacked flavor to me. I was not at all impressed and was disappointed. I also ordered the mahi mahi special topped with crab meat and hollandaise sauce with asparagus and one crab cake that also lacked flavor to me. I just did not enjoy my meal. I'm giving 3 stars for the restaurant looking nice and great customer service.
Michael Cerra
We vacationed in Williamsburg and went to Va beach for a day and found this gem for dinner. Very good food, superb service and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Heck, the waiter even had a real conversation with my 7 year old about her cats and his dogs. She loved it. If/when we get back there,we will definitely return.
Mike
Nice house turned into a seafood restaurant! We sat on the porch and had a awesome waiter. Had some delicious oyster appetizers, me and my family shared some great crab cakes, roasted potatoes that were sooogoood! A soup of the day that probably my favorite dish. For the 30 minute wait, in a prime location I would def go back.
Joherra Harris
We just left the food is quality and amazing! I got mahi Mahi, mussels and we got the flounder special. You will not be disappointed. Make a reservation before you go if not you may have a long wait.
Ronald Dugan
Great food, a bit pricey, service was great.
Josefina Frazier
Our first visit to Virginia Beach, we so enjoyed the food and service at Tautog's. An old house turned restaurant with a full and lovely bar area. We visited off-season, you could tell it's a local favorite. We enjoyed the potato chip crusted Mahi and the Yellowfin Tuna steak rare - both were delicious! Our server Paul was great, thanks again for the recommendations and the low key service. The wine pours were generous. When we return to Virginia Beach, we'll return to Tautog's...
Tajee B
This place is very intimate. It's kinda not a looker when you're looking outside of it but when you go in is very intimate. A really great place for a date. The food was phenomenal the only thing that I'm mad about is my prime rib steak was small but it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the Dungeness crab legs and she was so focused on eating it I knew it was good. The plus about this place is if you go at night time Kama it is quite possible if you sit in the front of the restaurant that you will have a shell from the street performers. Overall a great restaurant.
Emilina Beteta
Our waitress Jess was an absolute delight 10/10 would recommend to a friend! You need to try the salmon teriyaki with rice and seaweed salad!! The crab legs were yum! The crab cake sandwich was delish!!
Lucy Of Springfield
Our favorite eatery whenever we are in Virginia Beach. All our food are good and the waiter is full of knowledge of the source and fixing of the seafood we ordered.
Robert Stabnow
On a beautiful and unusually warm recent Sunday night I took my wife to this local's favorite restaurant. A perfect dining experience. I call it, relaxed fine dining. You can dine on the enclosed front deck or inside. The service was excellent and the food excellent. A wide variety of seafood entrees were featured. Whether you are local or visitor to Virginia Beach you must experience Tautog's !!!
Mike Jackson
We are in Virginia Beach on a last minute trip. I just happened to Google restaurants and Tautog's came up with very good reviews, so we went to try it. It lives up to the reviews here. The place is awesome, there was no wait, but the place was fully packed, so our timing must have been perfect. The food was prepared excellently, and the service was tip top. It is a cute little converted Victorian home, as many businesses are in the area. We will certainly return on our next visit.
Marisol McGuigan
We recently went to VA Beach for a weekend getaway. We decided to go eat at this place. The food was outstanding and delicious. Server was so friendly. We will definitely be back.
Taryn Briggs
The she crab soup is DELICIOUS! There are huge chunks of crab in it. I ordered the teriyaki glazed salmon and it was so good. The fish was cooked perfectly. I also loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Great place to visit
Michael McElhinny
Food is amazingly good. Couldn't ask for better service...best during our week long trip. Don made sure our kids were happy with their food, including redoing a dessert to her looking. They all seemed to work together and were friendly. I definitely recommend this place to families.
Connie Phillips
Very entertaining to sit at the counter and watch the show! Delicious breakfast.
Diane Peters
FABULOUS restaurant week menu! The brisket appetizer was the BEST and is only offered for restaurant week. Had the flat iron steak entree...cooked perfect...and coconut pie for dessert. Tautog's is one of our favorite VB restaurants. The never disappoint.
Julz Bo
Restaurant was packed by 5:30 on a Friday night in October. Food was terrific. Crab cakes and mussels delicious! Great selection of wine. Service was excellent. This place became an immediate favorite in VA beach.
Shane Marcheson
Really worth a visit. The She-crab soup is outstanding. I had a salmon special with lobster gratin topping. For dessert the bread pudding is a must have. The wait is a little long, but worth it. Or two year old daughter had a great time and fit in fine.
Sydney Norwood
Great food, amazing atmosphere!
Theresa Kramer
Delicious! I ordered the Scallops in puff pastry with a lemon scented beurre blanc sauce. My husband ordered the flounder stuffed with crab cooked in parchment. Outstanding. The service was excellent even though it was Mother's day. I will definitely revisit for another terrific meal.
Donny
Fish burrito was OUTSTANDING and our waitress took care of us from the time we sat down until we left.
The only thing, was the door was open and flies were flying around and it was a little warm inside. This was my first time here.
Mike Medved
We had a really good experience at Tautogs. The food was excellent, they had a couple of beers on tap (which seems to be the exception in VB), and the restaurant itself is cool in that ramshackle beach house kind of way.
I'd easily recommend this place... we went with a big party, with a couple of kids, and had a good time. Got a really early reservation, which was good because the place very quickly fills up. Food can take a little while, but that also seems to be par for the course in VB.
Lenora Diggs
I ate light had a house salad and she crab soup...it was plentiful. I was able to split in half for lunch next day. Yes, I did purchase desert...unable to comment still full from my meal.
Mike H
Perfect for date night! Tonight they had a special mango crab gazpacho soup. Never had it before and now I want itevery night!. You should also try their tuna poke. A lot of pokes I've had have been such small chunks of tuna that it was more like mush but theirs is good size chunks and well worth the buy. We finished with our entree of tuna with a jagermeister BBQ and it was fantastic! When you're finished, leave your car parked in their private parking which is free and take a quick walk to the beach and feel the ocean breeze in your hair before it's time to head home.
George Frese
Staff was cool, ok selection of draft, the crab dip and chips were a hit and the crab cakes tasted good and had the right amount of crab. Others at the table enjoyed a combination of entrees and everyone in group was satisfied with their meals.
alec andrulat
We came here to get away from chain restaurants and the place. Has a cozy chill vibe. The server we had was very funny and the food was amazing. I forgot to take pictures but take my word on it. Prices are actually pretty reasonable for a sefood restaurant. Would recommend for the tourist visiting Virgina beach
Ashwin Gramopadhye
Good service at the bar. Hosts were apathetic -- refused to honor a request to let us move to any of the several empty tables after we found that someone in our party could not sit anymore at the bar due to an injured back. Fortunately for us, the bartender made them accommodate us.
Michael Dutton
Was there, recently, as a guest for a Christmas party. Drinks and heavy hors d'ouvers. Staff was friendly and professional. Food was delicious and cocktails were well made!!
Erika Schaefer
This place is unassuming from the outside, but the food was reasonably priced, delicious and the waitstaff was wondering. Went on Mothers day and received flowers to take home which made me feel so special! Thank you Tautog's for a wonderful night!
Erin Grady
Long wait without reservations, but excellent food. I really liked the potato chip battered mahi. The crab nachos are excellent. The cornmeal sage catfish is also very good. The sides (potatoes and rice) were good but nothing special. Also to make reservations, you have to have a party of 6 or more.
Andrew Wood
I had the blackened fish burrito. DELICIOUS!!! I ate the whole thing, which was huge by the way. The rice was perfect, the salsa was FRESH. Our waiter was on top of everything. Great environment, will probably go back tonight!!!!
ad truong
The services were great, very attentive, but seafoods seemed old, not fresh, i had shrimps & grits, my partner was scalops with potatoes, daughter had cab soup and crabmeat with potatoes.
Breanna Johnson
It was alright. My group got the 4 cheese flatbread which was literally just a storebought mini cheese pizza and the crab dip was good but the chips were store bought. It was quite a wait to get our entrees, but they seemed very busy so I wasn't upset by that, but the meal itself wasn't that great. My teriyaki salmon had a gigantic pile of ginger on it which really seemed like a waste since no one is going to eat all that, the rice was extremely bland and my salmon was barely warm by the time I got it. My husband got the flounder in a bag and it looked okay but was fairly bland as well.
Jaewon Lee
Just an average restaurant. Granted, we came right before it closed, so the food might not be in the best quality, but not good enough excuses. Oysters were very small and felt like they were not fresh. Shrimp scampi over rice was a mediocre at its best. Crab soup was good, but too salty, and too little crab meat. Little bit disappointed after visiting here for the high reviews it has.
Rick
Instantly greeted by Jen the hostess who gave me a quick history of the restaurant and also about the next door restaurant "Doc Taylor" (while I waited ten short minutes for our table). Our waiter Paul was very patient and a true gentleman. The food was exquisite and to die for. Jen had also mentioned the free parking at the back of the restaurant. They were able to squeeze us in even without reservations, reservation is recommended. Also fairly priced ....!!!! Looking forward to coming back next year.
Martisha Duncan
The Mrs and I wanted a good sit down meal as we had our fill of sub-par restaurants in the VB area. We made the trek over to Tautog's, hoping to be impressed by the rave reviews of a few of the locals and our hotel concierge. The food lived up to the bill and we were very impressed by their take on the grits, which the locals tell me are pretty impressive.
Karen Hawkins
Best place in Virginia Beach! The food is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is cozy and romantic. The service was fast and professional. You will not be sorry, it is a must try! Make a reservation and take a look at the menu before hand to speed up the process :)
Andrea Brewer
Tried many times, a go to when we visit Virginia Beach. The prices are reasonable for the area and the food has always been decent, although had crabake sandwich April 2017 and was disappointed, lots of filler. Good local beer choices. Always a wait during tourist season. Best part is parking behind the restaurant if you happen to not be on foot.
Tracey J
Arrived at 5:30 to a long line & were the first to have to wait 45 minutes. Had a fresh crab dip at the bar. Kid's menu is non-existent, if your child doesn't like seafood, there's no point in bringing them. Best Potato-Chip Crusted Mahi dish ever, must try. My husband said his scallops had a bad aftertaste and he didn't finish them. The service is quick and top-notch, very friendly. Great intimate atmosphere.
Brandy Mak
Food was good, so tasty. Drinks were great, staff was cool. Wait time was a bit much, but I can see why. My only issue is I think I may have gotten food poisoning. Maybe I was allergic to something I ate(never had oysters before, could have been that) but I have had a headache and been violently barfing for hours. That was the only place I had ate that day.
Keaton McManamy
The hostess was dead on for our wait, and the patio outside is perfect for waiting. The wine list is decent and provides a lot of options. The food was delivered in a timely fashion, and was quite good. Overall a great experience.
Brian Banks
Great seafood,excellent staff,
We came here for our anniversary, the manger went out of her way to get flowers for us,
Wanted to reimburse her, unfortunately wasn't able to.
Definitely a must for any seafood lover..
Carol Spencer
Absolutely wonderful menu, plenty of different types of seafood to choose from, and fun takes on the way food is prepared. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. There is parking behind the restaurant. The ambience is fun, set in a 1920's Victorian beach cottage.
Jack Herr
Truly the best eatery in Virginia Beach. We extended our stay one day to make sure we could eat there on a Thursday evening. The extra night at the hotel was worth it.
Brian GoneFishin
Incredible. This place is a secret. Local knowledge required. Food is so fresh, with an innovative menu, and remarkably delectable cuisine. I would take the train from Baltimore just to eat here for the weekend. Whatever is on the chalk board... just order it. The specials are worth driving miles abroad to taste and enjoy.
I am a fishing captain and I have a rule about seafood: if I did not catch it and I dont know who caught it.. I'm probably gonna eat it. I have made exception to my rule for this establishment.
Thankyou for a glorious meal.

So my boyfriend and I have been here twice. The first ti.e was AMAZING. The second time was extremely disappointing. Both times I ordered flounder in a bag. The first time it was great. The second time there was no flavor and it was cold by the time it got to our table. My boyfriend got some kind of raging something g with shrimp and rice. It was supposed to be spicy but it was so bland. Reading reviews, I see that you can order mixed drinks, that they have a full bar. Well with that said, our waiter only gave us a wine list. Not once did he mention that they have a full bar in the back when I even asked him. He wasnt a very good waiter either. He was extremely slow. We happened to be there on a night that it wasnt that busy. We got there right around the time they were opening. I dont know if I will ever go back. The second experience ruined it for us. I'd much rather take my business to Waterman's the next time I'm back in VA Beach.
Savontae Diggs
One of the best seafood restaurants I've ever been to! Great staff as well! The crab nachos were amazing. Get there early though. They were packed an hour after they opened and with good reason. It was phenomenal!
devin Johnson
Nice bar and atmosphere. Great bartender, who may have been the owner. Good pours facilitated convo amongst friends.
Diane Johnson
Great service. Knowledgeable server. I usually have the scallops but had flounder in a bag. Very good. Husband tried shrimp and grits - not spicy enough he said, no heat, although they are described as "jalapeno" grits. Tuna Martinique and crab cakes were good. Ordered flat bread appetizer for our 18-month old granddaughter; sadly it was way too charred to really be enjoyable. In the interest of time we scraped the toppings away from the crust, and shared our roasted potatoes with her.
Pepper Basket
Outstanding service & food. Looking forward to another visit. Our waitress was delightful, very knowledgeable and patiently explained the specials & all the dishes we inquired about. We began with Corby's Original Crab Dip. It was nicely seasoned with a touch of Old Bay, not too salty or cheesy; lots of crab meat. Daughter #1 ordered the Sauteed Seasonal Vegetable Ratatouille and loved it, especially the risotto. Daughter #2 ordered the Scallops Barca and loved it. The pastry was light and puffy, scallops were melt in your mouth. Hubby had the Tuna Martinique which was cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. I had the Stuffed Flounder in a Bag which was very good. The crab & shrimp stuffing was quite flavorful and absent of 'fillers'. The broccoli was steamed to perfection, enough to share with a very tasty Hollandaise sauce. I would go back again just for steamed veggies, it was that good. Ending with 'real' Key lime pie, nicely tart & refreshing and the Bread Pudding is a specialty and some of the best we've ever had. Get there early, line forms fast.
Sylvia Majerus
Great meal! The She-crab soup is SO GOOD! I had the Jack's Rujan Shimp Scampi, its was great. Not to spicy with the Cheyenne pepper, and a huge proportion. Our server Paul was very knowledgeable of all the dishes and special, he took very good care of us. Get that She-crab soup! It was the best!
Emma noble
They were busy so we sat outside to wait and ordered some drinks. Took a while to have someone come wait on us but it was ok because we weren't in a rush. Oysters Rockefeller were out of this world we ordered another order after we were done our first order. The tuna was great and so was the scallops in puff pastry. The only complaint with food was that the roasted potatoes tasted more like a breakfast food than a dinner side
Hannah Henault
My family and I LOVE this restaurant! My mother, who's in Texas, always gets jealous when I tell her I'm going to Tautogs! The staff is always friendly, and it's always packed in there! Meaning, the food is amazing and worth waiting for, it's always fresh, hot, and to die for! Not to mention it's only a 5 minute walk from the beach! I love love LOVE coming here!!!! ♥♥♥
Danae B
Went there for a fancy night out, the atmosphere was great , the waiter was kind and helpful with suggestions. I ordered the scallops in that delightful lemon sauce. Suggestion; For dessert get the peaches with the ice cream, you won't regret it!!
DA King Twins
Great food and amazing service. Wish I could give 6 stars. Seafood, steak and grilled cheese for the kids. Everything was great. Kids choices upon request that aren't mentioned on the menu. Shrimp appitezer was large and scrumptious. Could not have been better.
V T
We were here on July 4th and ordered crab cakes, salmon, and fish tacos. They were delicious and came in good portion size. Glad to find a place within distance near the beach and friendly staff!
Ron Monson
This is one of the absolute best restaurants in Virginia Beach. The food here is amazing. I love the crab nachos and she crab soup and every time I visit i always get these. There's plenty available to drink and lots of other menu items that are equally amazing. You can't visit Virginia Beach without coming to eat here at least wants. The location is perfect too. Free parking. Get there early!
Heather Dolland Tamam
So happy we found this place. It saved our trip to Virginia Beach. This is by far one of the most diverse menus I've come across that executes everything well. You can't go wrong with anything. Plus my cocktails were amazing. What's not to love?
Angelina Smith
Wonderful food and great service
Monica Shirey
Before I went, I read somewhere that this is the place the locals go for seafood. I can see why. Tautog's is unassuming in appearance, but the experience is anything but ordinary. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The food arrived promptly and was so very good. The appetizer and entree I had were very fresh and seasoned perfectly. The herbed garlic bread is zesty and crusty, but when (not if) I go back, I'll skip it because the serving sizes of the entrees are so large, the bread wasn't called for. I was way too content for dessert. Great food, great service, reasonable prices- I couldn't ask for more.
P.s. If you're looking for gluten free, over half their entrees are. They also have vegetarian options.
P.p.s. They also source their ingredients locally and ask you to skip the straw. 💙

I owe Travis an apology. I had a minor melt down over a lack of fork in my bag after a huge amount of traffic and waiting and there was nothing that poor man could really do to help me but he acknowledged I was a bit mad and I said thank you.
Then after asking a bunch of strangers around virginia beach on the 4th of july if they had a fork I proceeded to eat some of the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. Cheesy, savory and great sized shrimp this dish had a hunt of spicy as well as sweet and I was wonderfully impressed. After the HANGRY passed I needed to give credit where credit was due. This will be a regular stop for me when I come to visit.
Sorry again Travis you were great. I had a Betty White moment.
Michelle Menninger
The food is AMAZING! Scallops Barca and Blackened Fish Burrito!
Doug Knepper
Came in on Memorial Day weekend and the wait time was what they said it would be. The crab stuffed flounder was amazing as well as the potato chip crusted mahi. Drink menu/ wine list was solid. Will be back next time I visit VB.
Lincoln Patrick
They have enlarged the patio in the back, so there is ample, distanced, seating. We had a couple of apps, and two different entrees. The food was EXCELLENT, the PRICES were EXCELLENTaa, and the service was EXCELLENT. Highly recommended.
Lauren Ancona
We wandered in without a reservation on a rainy Wednesday evening. The wait was about 20 mins for a table for two, which was totally worth it for the excellent meal & service. The swordfish special was perfectly done, as were the tuna tartar, white shrimp flatbread, and Greek salad. Service was wonderful.
Melissa Austin
Locals told us about this hidden gem. The seafood was the best I have ever eaten. I ordered the tuna special. You must try the oysters! Amazing. Highly recommend this place. It reminded me of a surf bar or dive bar, but food was excellent.
Laura Phillips
Great dinner and perfect meal in VA Beach wonderful choices and menu. Our waiter Andrew gave us outstanding service and we so enjoyed our evening out. We look forward to enjoying another delicious meal at Tautog’s!
Belinda Ferguson
Great service very accommodating staff our waiter Chris was the best and very knowledgeable of the menu. Food cooked to perfection. Crab cakes excellent
Matt Mastarone
Had a 20 person rehearsal dinner here and could not have been more pleased. Very friendly and accommodating service and the food was absolutely fabulous. Not to mention the prices are quite reasonable for what you are getting. Make a reservation the place is slammed all night long.
Stephen DuChemin
Amazing food with a great staff. Ambience is a bit different; like reading in someone's Beach cottage. But don't let that take away from how cool it is! Plenty of room and an awesome bar.
Master Graphics
The food was quite good-- ambitious menu, at which they succeeded.
Kitchen was S L O W. Wait staff was adequare but not outstanding.
Decor was *at best* beach kitchy. I wouldn't take a first date there. Not too clean, not too nice, but the food was excellent.
Plan Tation
Food was good. Our server was great. The space is small and our table was even smaller. It was crowded and my friend kept complaining that servers were bumping her seat, acidentally, whenever they passed by her, because it is very tight in this joint!
Rhonda Wexler
Exceptional. My boyfriend had the blackened tuna rare, and said it was the best he's had. My scallops were cooked perfectly. Our server Chad made excellent suggestions and was friendly; the food came out quickly.

We had a wonderful evening at Tautogs. Free parking lot behind the restaurant where we were directed to our spot was convenient. Atmosphere is beach-y yet very cozy and romantic. Lots of excellent menu choices at incredible prices. We started with the crab nachos (yum) and both got different Tuna entrees which were equally delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. We had one night in VA Beach, and are so happy we decided to spend dinner at Tautogs ~ it was perfect!

Best fresh seafood on the Virgina Beach strip that is preferred by most locals. Reservations are a must or you'll wait a long, long, time (however, it's well worth the wait). A little pricier than the avg place, but Tautog's is far from average...by far, the best seafood restaurant anyone in my extended family has ever frequented anywhere. We go multiple times during each annual visit!

Always ask for the specials.
The tuna martinique is fantastic but check the specials board first. The wahoo Friday night was simply delicious. The entire staff is great, from the greeters, to the bartender, the servers and even the fella who keeps an eye on your car in the parking lot, it's like one big family.
Great food, great location, and friendly staff. This is an easy choice at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
Nichol Nolf
This is a nice restaurant tucked away on a side street, so for years we never knew it was there. It's an old house that they turned into a resturant so you eat in various rooms of the house. The quality of the food was good. They are only open for the evenings so if you get there right when they open you won't have to wait as long to be seated.
George Cochrane
A friend of ours that used to live in the area recommended this place. She said it was a locals favorite. Great service, amazing food. The prices were reasonable. If you’re in the area, it’s worth stopping by and enjoying a meal here.
Hansiain Rumsey
I had the signature She Crab Soup, very good flavorful and absolutely not good for your waistline. A bowl and a side of bread could be a meal by itself. For my main I decided on the fried Soft-Shell Crab on a bed of arugula and topped with EXCELLENT CRAB SALAD. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but great inside and great food.
Juan Carlos
A family owned restaurant. Server was very polite and experienced. This was the best place regarding to taste, quality and atmosphere. Great experience from the moment I entered till left. I will definitely recommend to others.
Piedad Holder
My favorite place for poke! I used to live nearby and came here literally twice or more a week. now I only come here whenever I'm in the area, but I always make time to stop by here. that's how much I love this place! they have a few other locations, but for some reason this place has better sauces than the rest.
Jennifer-Sophia
I've been here to eat only 2 times- 5 years apart. I am equally satisfied with both visits, once in November and once in June.
The service was wonderful and the food was excellent! Very good quality and not over priced.
No regrets!

Curt Valk
Our meals were fantastic. The 10 oz tenderloin was out of this world as well as the tuna and crab. Dont forget to try Benny's oysters.
Jason Boggs
They happily and willingly accommodated our surprise group of 6 adults and 4 children. Yummy food, great service. Whiskey prices are atrocious, but the typical cocktails (Dark and Stormy, Hurricane) were reasonably priced.
Rockeye
Great food. Great service. Took my brother and father who came in to visit me. I'm a new local. First time eating here. Won't be the last. Impressed my father. That should get a sixth star alone.
Cindy Gillani
Great place. Busy for a Wednesday night and off season. Obviously has a good reputation.
Service and food were good. Entree came out too early...hadn't finished my salad.
Cruise Cycle
I loved it. This is what the old time, family owned, superb local food was like before the proliferation of the big chains that dominated the scene these days. The restaurant itself is located on an old traditional beach house and the service and food is what you would expect from the old school traditional fixin's and charm: elegant and excellent. My wife and I are locals and patronize a number of local restaurants that are open year round but Tautogs is and remains our favorite. And the location just can't be beat. If you are in the area and looking for the old timely traditional local fare without having to leave the beach area, this is the place. Very highly recommended.

Fantastic food! Can be a little awkward finding the parking lot the first time, it’s behind the buildings but the access is from the side street. Weird; but appropriate. Service was on point and the food was great! Will be coming back!
Aubrey Hall
I absolutely love Tautog's! I always know I can get a quality meal for a fair price. Consistency is key and they nail it! The seafood is fresh and the flavor combinations always delight. This is one of the best local spots in Va Beach!
Jay Evans
Very loud! My stuffed flounder was average at best and my wife found the Tilapia au gratin to have way too much heat. It made it impossible to taste anything else on the plate. Very busy which made wait time for food longer than it should be. Very Loud... Did I say that before?
Fawn Lisette
Food and service is AMAZING! everything from here was amazing! Highly reccomend the she-crab soup!
Only downfall is that the bill was a little higher than expected (we did order alot)! But so worth it!
(Prices were not that bad, most things are $8-12, w a couple $16-20 dishes. They were all good sizes)
Jeremy Baesler
It's was just ok, a bit pricey for what you get. Some dishes had an overpowering amount of vinegar in them if you get it with sun ripened tomatoes. Gargenzola on a nice piece of tuna was a little strange as it's such a strong flavor and takes away from the flavor of the tuna. Plain or a side of mango salsa, etc would be an improvement.
Mark Hemingway
Ate on patio because inside table wait time was 45 minutes. It was a little warm and they brought ice water and took the drink.order within a minute. Drinks were served quickly and our order was taken. The salads were fresh and the steamed shrimp was very good. They were also served quickly. Our ice water was filled regularly and on time. I had the blackened tuna, my wife had asian honey barbecue tilapia, my daughter had a salmon salad and my son a four cheese pizza. All were excellent. Deserts looked good, but we were full.
Bob Lechler
You've got to eat here. Anazing food and great service from Chris.
Jessie Jessloveurlife Lowe
It was busy on a Sunday evening so they were trying to turn over tables as quick as possible, making the service less than it should be. The food was good, wine even better. I wouldn't go back on the weekend again but I would go back.
Angela Taylor
They were a little slow on opening at 5pm tonight by about 5 min. But the waiter and food made up for the extra wait. Oysters Rockefeller were to doe for! My husband had seared tuna on top of fried rice with a citrus chili sauce that he loved. I had the midatlantic pasta with shrimp and pesto cream. It was huge and the flavor was outstanding! For dessert my husband had brandied peaches with ice cream and raspberry melba sauce. I ordered the brownie with ice cream and both desserts were fabulous. We will definitely be back!
Leah Rucker
Absolutely delicious food. Wonderful service. Will recommend highly. 10/10.
Nour Saber
This place was amazing! The waiter was so nice and it was only a thirty minute wait but it was so worth it. The stuffed flounder must be the best thing i've ever eaten and their starters were also great along with the tuna martinique and shrimp and grits. I reccomend this place to families and everyone to be honest. Also try their herb crusted bread its amazing!
J.P. McWatters
Great food and service. I had oyster stew as an appetizer and shrimp and grits for my entree. I would highly recommend either of those choices. I went to dinner with 4 people and we all had the same options of our meals and the service.
R B
Wonderful service. The bartender provided great service and was funny to talk with. Will visit this place again when in the area next.
The stuffed flounder was great!!
Trevor Gray
Awesome food with a down to earth beachy feel. A must dine experience in the VA Beezy.
jennifer morse
Effffffing delicious. Love coming in without a reservation and always getting a table. And the waitress- I cannot remember her name- but she’s short, curly hair and wooonderfully outgoing. She makes the place. Not to mention the scrumptious food!!!! Omg mouthwatering oysters. Yummy catch of the day. Always something that hits the spot. Go! What are you waiting on.
The One
Visit every time we are in area. Great food, friendly and attentive staff. Celebrated anniversary there.
Allen Bean
The service was great without being fussy. I was served the best oysters I've ever had, and a stuffed flounder that was perfectly prepared.
Andy Littig
Found this place on Google maps as it was close to the hotel so we could walk.
My wife, me , and two 20+ yr old boys all thought our food was delicious. We did not want to wait 45 mins for a table so we sat at the bar. Our order was slow coming but it was worth the wait!
Craig R
Went there on a reccommdation of a local bartender. This place was definitely a local favorite. I enjoyed my tuna steak dinner. The bartender was friendly and also had great reccommdations for eats and local brews available. I would go back!
Allen Sermonia
Damn tasty. Locals favorite. Crab nachos were great. Crab was centerpiece of this dish. Salmon teriyaki done to order. Flaky and tender. Shrimp and grits were fantastic. Enough shrimp and a tangy bbq sauce drizzled over. Half hour wait was a little too much. I saw a few open tables that could have been bussed quicker and tables sat faster. Either wait staff needs to pre bus or bussers need to get on these tables with a quickness.
Alex Tokmin
If you want to try seafood as an art - this is the place to go. Great, friendly service. Amazing knowledgeable waiters and fresh seafood! The price is very reasonable. Restaurant has a parking lot.
Kari Molnar
This is literally my favorite restaurant and i am from MI. Every time we come to VB this is a must hit spot. This is the place to go! I highly recommend the Ginger Salmon! It has a really nice low key atmosphere.
Jeremy T. Hickman
Fantastic dinner - love the crabcakes w/ granny smith tartar sauce, she crab soup, and shrimp flatbread. Will be back 💯 …

Someone else said this was an "intimate place", but it felt cramped with tables stuffed together in an old house. The poke was ok but it came in a small bar glass with no room to mix or eat without the food falling out of the glass. We didn't get any side plates until after the salads came, which again were on tiny little plates, so after tossing my own salad in dressing I got to eat what didn't fall off the plate. The entrees came with no vegetable and a big portion of "roasted" red potatoes which were soaked in butter so they never caramelized and we're just poached in the butter. The crab cakes tasted good but we're pretty small for what you pay considering the side of potatoes. The stuffed flounder en papillote didn't seem to have any seasoning so it was very bland. Finally the fighter jets taking off every 15 minutes was a terrible assault on the senses. I admit I'm difficult to please with food as I've worked with food for a long time but for $100 for two people I expect something more than this.
Michael Callahan
Great service, really good food in a relaxing comfortable place.
Keep in mind, this is the off season so no wait times.
If I lived closer, I would frequent often.
Steve Liggett
Great service, great food, crab cakes are excellent. Make sure to try the Mac and cheese with truffles. Best in virginia beach. Thank you for a wonderful meal and a great night out. This i a must when visiting virginia beach.
Chrissy Qct
The food here was wonderful and they were very accommodating of my picky and grumpy four year old who earned grilled shrimp Haha. Our server was extremely sweet and knowledgeable, and her recommendation of the scallops was exactly what I needed!
Will Boland
We have had some great times at Tautogs and highly recommend it. My company CarLotz opened a new location down the road in Chesapeake in December, and we have had some fun team nights out here. The atmosphere is awesome - nice beachy, homey feel to it with an awesome front porch. It always seems to have a crowd, so you may have to wait at times, but it's worth it. The food is great, and the specials are always terrific.
C. S.
Not really sure why this place has such a high rating. Food was ok, but after reading the ratings...expected much more. The restaurant was hot inside and the service was spotty ...the waiter was friendly, but didn't even offer the specials. Had the crab soup Watermans down the street has a much better version with actual crabmeat in it. The veggie wrap was good, vegetarian pesto pasta was also good and the flounder was fresh and cooked well.

My family (hubby and in-laws) and I have been multiple times and love it! It is very popular, so we always get there around 5pm to get a good spot in line (they open at 5:30). We have ordered something off of the sandwich list as well as the main fish plates... all SO YUMMY! We just went a couple weekends ago (brother-in-law and his girlfriend came to visit)... I got the blackened Ahi Tuna with rice... DELISH! Everyone at the table got something different and it was greatly enjoyed :D
Elliott Cook
Everything was great except for how long it took for our food to arrive. The food was delicious! We had the goat cheese appetizer, crab cake sandwich and the rib special. Wish we had gone back again before we left.
Troy Powers
Been coming to Tautog's since my brother in law wss stationed at NAS Oceana, which was longer ago than I'd care to admit. The food on menu is always wonderful and the specials are always amazing! Hands down, it's the best restaraunt in Virginia Beach.
Renae Dower
The food is absolutely delicious, crab legs were seasoned very well. Chicken and potatoes were to die for... Service was very good, but the time between the appitizer and entres was a bit too long.
Overall, wonderful atmosphere, really wonderful food and good service.
Steven Holmberg
Service started slow and a bit disappointing, but got better as the meal progressed. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal (Tilapia Au Gratin), but my wife found the Stuffed Flounder in a Bag rather lackluster, lacking flavor.
Blaque Kaalvenist
Food - EXCELLENT. Had the Teryaki Glazed Salmon with Ginger (served with seaweed and cucumber on a bed of rice pilaf). My wife had it as well. Mine was only SLIGHTLY undercooked in the middle, but that was immediately remedied (the put it back on the grill for a few minutes). Food's in great portions, seasoned well, not too salty, spicy, etc... My wife and I always get water with lemon (*every* restaurant marks up drinks....LOL).
Decor - Creative. They converted an old house to a restaurant. Not cramped at all. Music wasn't loud and neither were other patrons. Originally told there was a 20 minute wait, but they had a table ready for me in 4 minutes. Love it. Clean bathrooms (my wife used it). Parking in the back is limited and you may need to watch it a bit after rain (a few puddles).
Service - Allie (might have spelled it wrong) was our server. She was attentive, came back and checked on us regularly and seemed to time her visits to our table well. She was very pleasant and friendly, and always happy to assist.
Overall - this place ROCKS. I will recommend it to my friends as well as eat here every time I come down to visit.

Truly the gem of Virginia beach. Talented chef is comparable to NYC finest. The staff if friendly and knowledgeable of the area and menu, that has so many delicious options.
Aaron Peppers
The she crab soup was amazing! The shrimp and grits were insane! Best grits I've ever had and I was in New Orleans last week! I highly recommend this restaurant UDIG!
Brent Walker
Excellent food with what I would call a foodie twist. Fine dining food with some unexpected but delicious flavor combinations. Atmosphere is lacking but still fairly nice.
John Mercer
Went there Saturday nite for dinner with my wife and two good friends .We were not able to make reservations prior to our dinner because they would only take reservations for six or more people. We arrived there at about 7pm,the place was packed,so we waited patiently for 45 minutes in the bar area until we were called. The waitress seated us at a somewhat tiny table for four in the middle of the dining area, not what I was expecting, but they were busy ,so ok. Nice waitress came over and took our orders and brought us drinks. My friends all ordered seafood of different types and I ordered the flat iron steak after asking the waitress about it since I had never had that type of steak in the past.I was satisfied with her positive response and ordered it cooked medium. BIG MISTAKE ! ! When it arrived it was blanketed with some kind of heavy sauce, couldn't even see the steak at first. It was as tough and chewy as a piece of beef jerky with no favor to speak of and certainly not cooked medium as I had ordered. Anyway,I carried on and ate what I could and just left the rest.I should have complained but I didn't want to make a scene in front of my friends who ,by the way ,seemed to enjoy their meals. It was probably my fault for ordering a steak in a mostly seafood restaurant ,but it should have been prepared correctly. My wife and I had eaten there in the past and had very good experiences. I'll give them three stars only because of past positive dinners and the fact that my friends had a nice time. DO NOT GET THE FLAT IRON STEAK. TRY THE CRAB CAKES INSTEAD. Good Luck. 🤔
Ashley
Our waitress was awesome. They were able to seat our 10 person group on short notice and with great service.
Jeff Summers
We had a very nice dinner, we had a long wait so make sure you call for a reservation ahead of time. Our server was very helpful I giving me information on a few dishes.
Isaiah B
It looks like a house. So it feels very weird walking in. It's kinda pricey too , but the food and drinks were excellent ! It was certainly worth the price. I definitely recommend it to seafood lovers. Try their flounder in a bag too , just don't bite the bag like I did lol
Stuart Chase
Even on a busy Sunday night the service was excellent. My husband and I shared crab cakes and crab nachos both were amazing. Will definitely eat here again.
Christina Penny
By far, the best meal we had in Virginia Beach. We had the tuna poke as an appetizer- pretty creative. I had the shrimp and grits which were luscious, my fiancé had the cobia special with collard greens and a crab/corn relish- yum! The only thing we would have changed was to have some crostinis for the delicious broth with the cobia special. If we're ever in Virginia Beach again, we'll be back!
Swagat Dash
Had to wait for more than 30 mins on a Sunday evening. But we loved the food.
Eutha Hurdle
This is a nice and cozy restaurant, the food was awesome and the service was great.
tellin datruth
went there for new years eve! couldn't have been better excellent service the crab nachos appetizer was awesome and the shrimp and grits were out of this world
my girlfriend said the crabcakes were killer and the price was very fair!! highly recomended
Blase Keegel
The flat iron steak was just right! The room I sat in was not conditioned and it was warm and crowded, but a few cold beers help make the evening enjoyable. Seems like there's always a wait.
Brian Lachniet
The location was great, just a short walk from our hotel. The food was just mediocre, though. I've had better much seafood at cheaper prices. Also, no kids menu, so not the best place for kids.
aaron groen (SpeedyMan1975)
Great service and food. Great crab cakes! The she crab soup was awesome, big chunks of crab. Well worth the visit!
Matthew Brill
Delicious food, relaxed and friendly place - only had the crab nachos (no room for anything else, as much as I wanted to). Will be back to try the entrees.
Amanda Jamison
The food was delicious from beginning to end. The service was great. Disappointed that the Sugar Toads weren't on the menu tonight but will be back in the summer to catch them!
D Par
Very good seafood. It was a short walk from our motel. Laid back and casual atmosphere. The Tuna was our favorite and the crab nachos were good.
Chris Spry
Went very late to dine one night in June. Menu options were limited since they had all but closed down the kitchen (our fault for showing up 20 minutes before close). Food was good and affordable. Will definitely go back.

You would e hard pressed to make me believe that there’s a better restaurant in Virginia Beach. Great food, great atmosphere and great staff. You won’t be disappointed
