Reviews of Pilpel

We arrived late and they didn't have much left to offer and kept apologizing, but the Falafel, kebabs and fries that we got were incredible. The flavours were vibrant, everything was fresh and the fries were the best we've ever had. They were so friendly and helpful throughout. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

I'm SO excited for a new option for jewish / middle eastern food in the tampa bay area. I haven't been able to find something truly authentic for many years so I am very excited about having this option! I got the falafel in a pita + my mom got the falafel plate with eggplant.... and they made has halva cookies and tea at the end!
We enjoyed our experience very much and we are definitely going to come back again!

We ordered Shabbos dinner and it was great. They really put extra effort into the food. Delicious. Tampa has very little kosher food. These guys are a blessing

My son likes to try new foods and tonight he asked for Israeli food so we found Pilpel and off we went.
This little gem is a part of the Chabad house and only has outdoor seating but the evening was perfect. We sat down and were welcomed by the sound of people nearby speaking Hebrew. The menu is limited but that’s a huge plus for us. Restaurants that have limited menus tend to do every item very well and Pilpel was no exception.
We started with the hummus and some falafel. The hummus was topped with olive oil and tahini and a light dusting of spice. And the falafel was, hands down, the best I’ve found in Tampa. The schwarma was a wonderful blend of spices and perfectly cooked but it was the beef kabob that took the show for me. Ground beef seasoned with garlic and other spices, it practically melted in my mouth.
The staff is wonderful. They were so kind and welcoming and really made the entire experience very enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

The food was very good!
But the place looks terrible. There are places only to seat outside in the heat of florida, with all the smoke of the kitchen blowing straight at us.
We had to go to wash our hands and use the restroom(which isn't suitble for customers) threw the dirty smelly kitchen. I'm not sure we would stay to eat there, if we wer'nt so desperate and hungry after a long drive to the place. And I only saw the old disgusting oil pan after I ate. My husband though didn't want to stay and eat in that heat outside.
I think it's a blessing to have kosher food in the u.s. but not to make 'Hilul Hashem' with the low standerds some jewish places have. I'm not sure if the kitchen there has health inspection.
Who ever comes to Pilpel should know its not like a normal resturant...
I say: keep the good food but do some serious changes to the place.

The restaurant is either outside or in the Sanctuary. It was cold when we went do they invited us in to eat.
Every dish was outstanding! The shwarma, pargiot, felafel - everything. It's all obviously made with love (and great recipes)
Go here, you will be glad you did!

Such a creative cook! The following day after eating falafel at the place, he prepared a special meal for the four of us with wedding rice, meatballs with butternut squash and great sauce. For desert we were surprised with delicious babka made with Halva, something really unique. And on top of that the service was so accommodating and let us feel like with family. And for the one of us that is vegetarian, be prepared a special meal that was cooked based on the special sensitivity for spices. Excellent!

The best Kosher restaurant in the greater Tampa Bay area. The food is fresh, and the menu is simple. The staff are entertaining. The restaurant itself has an old world charm.

Alex Gurman
Awesome place, very friendly! Great food, very customer friendly.

It is part of the Synagogue so no big signs showing you where it is. A taste of Israel in the middle of Tampa, kosher and the 2x chefs are friendly and from Israel but cam converse in English too, I had spicy falafel with Israeli salad and really tasty, which I give 5 stars easily.
I had a chicken swarma take away for my son and very nicely packaged to go, looks really tasty and they keep the pita separate so that it stays fresh and crunchy.
Few seats outside under tree shade with one small table inside to seat 2 people. Nothing fancy but the food is authentic and delicious, try it, you will not be disappointed c

Wonderful food but even more wonderful people. Accommodated all my dietary requests and needs with a smile and helpfulness. Delicious food. Would come here any time I am in town. Great for Kosher eaters and non-Kosher eaters alike.

One of the things Tampa has been missing is a good kosher Bagel. I have found them !!!! For me .. the test is can you just break it apart and eat it all by itself... Is it the right balance of dough inside with that crispy bagel outside. I had the plain and the poppy... So good.. I look forward to the day we can also get great rye as well.. Please support David's Grill so we can keep a good Kosher place !!

Really good authentic home cooked pros.
Super delicious.
Love the new seating area.

Some of the BEST food I’ve ever had! The chef is focused in North African food so it was most delightful to have hamin and moroccan fish. The salads were fresh and every item was just cooked wonderfully. Meir went above and beyond to make sure the food remained kosher as I had it catered to a non-kosher venue.
I saved leftovers and even reheated it tastes just as wonderful.
I’m definitely going back once I return to the Tampa/St. Pete Beach region. Especially now that they’re remodeling!

They all went above and beyond to make us happy.

After looking everywhere for a kosher restaurant in Tampa, I finally stumbled on David’s Grill, which is annexed to Chabad of Central Florida. This place is the best kept secret in Tampa. I am still dreaming about Chef Meir’s authentic kosher meals, from his tender chicken breast to his perfectly crisp falafel. Rumor has it he is the former chef to the King of Morocco, but he’ll never tell you if it’s true. I can tell you this for sure: I felt like a king eating here, and so will you.
Yuval Elharar
Definitely a must, if you visit Tampa or live in it
you can feel at home and taste the love and attention chef Meir put into everything that he creates with his humble smile and great passion for the kitchen
Throughout the challahs, main corses and desserts
Just great to experience Kosher in Tampa

I enjoyed a delicious chicken Schwarmah sandwich with fries for lunch here. Tasty, and a nice small outdoor seating area to enjoy it.
