Reviews of Piccola Italia Bistro
David Ruiz
My family and I made reservations. Yes the restaurant is small yet cozy. The chef introduced the specials and we selected two of them. Delicious, fresh and served hot. The only downfall was the server. He lacked knowledge of restaurant service procedure and personality skills. Unfortunately,I will not return for this reason.

Hands down the best Italian restaurant I found so far! Everything we tried was so good we could have eaten the plates! Chef William is also very pleasant to talk to. Will definitely be back!
CARLO BELLA
I thoroughly enjoyed the food at this trattoria! The chef is from abruzzo… a hidden gem that is authentic- Italian-food! (I was born in Italy and very picky!) The place is very small . You should call ahead and make a reservation.
Rosie Benser
This place is truly a hidden treasure. The best Italian we’ve ever had, and some of the best food we’ve ever had. Chef William is a genius. A very special experience.
Laura Hoffman
Amazing. Best Italian food I have ever had outside of Italy. Amazing and fresh. Chef William is talented and incredible. We will be back. And you can BYOB of wine or beer
Greg Dee
Omg. First of all, if you consider Olive Garden or Carrabba's good Italian, please skip this place. This restaurant is a gem. The chef is your Italian waiter. Make reservations and try everything. It's by far the best Italian I've had in Tampa. Be sure to leave room for dessert. Actually, even if you feel like you're about to explode, have an appetizer, entree and tiramisu for dessert.
Jon
I’m reluctant to review this place, because it’s small and already hard to get a reservation. But to be fair, I’ll go ahead and announce, this is the best Italian in Tampa. Sure, there are fancier, prettier places. Piccola is simple and rustic. Like eating in your Italian friend’s 1st generation grandmother’s kitchen (trust me, I grew up with plenty of these). If it’s really, really good, fresh pasta-centric Italian food you seek, look no further and get here. I’m pretty sure we’ve tried every well-recommended Italian place with 30 minutes, and we were in shock the first time we tried this place. It’s 2 guys making this incredible culinary magic. I honestly don’t know how they pull it off. They’re hysterical, and friendly once you get to know them and don’t annoy them, and they cook and serve the Italian food you didn’t yet know you crave. Try them and you’ll see what I mean; you’ll be making reservations a week in advance, every week. If I could pick only one Italian place to eat in Tampa ever again, this would be it, no hesitation. Every appetizer and dish we’ve tried has been exceptional, they come to the table steaming hot direct from the pan about 20 feet away, and the portions are great. I grew up eating Italian at friend’s parents homes in Brooklyn and in Little Italy, with friends and family “in the know”, and Piccola is right there with any of them. Don’t take my table!

Absolutely phenomenal, frankly best Italian food we’ve eaten in America and we came across this spot by accident. Seems like a hole in the wall spot until you sit down and the intimate vibe just takes over. The chef is a true artist focused on delivering fantastic dishes. We had the burrata salad, lamb chop risotto, shrimp tortellini and cannoli. All amazing but the risotto was another level, BYOB which we love. Also large portions everything was worth it, can’t wait to visit again!

I just had the most beautiful experience at Piccola Italia ! The pesto was a symphony of complimentary flavors and the salmon was just as fresh. It made me feel special and showed me what a truly beautiful dining experience is like. The Limoncello cake was tear inducing as it was the most moist and sumptuous cake I had ever eaten ( and my father is a pastry chef). Please do yourself a favor and go !!
Henry Young
What an adorable Italian restaurant. Food, seasoning carefully designed by Chef William. Growing up in NY and frequenting Little Italy, this Trattoria is quite special. I had spagetti carbonara with shrimp and loved every bite.
Jesse Dionne
Probably one of the best kept secrets in Tampa! Chef William is amazing and the food is fantastic. The standard menu is very good and very affordable, specials are a bit pricier but delicious. We had the rack of lamb w/mushroom risotto and butternut squash ravioli, and the tiramisu and tres leches cake for desert. BYOB as well so hit total wine for a good bottle beforehand
Brian Hebert
Anyone that gives this place less than 5 stars is a mouth breather. Simply defining Piccolas is that it's amazing, small, reservations required by proxy, the chef gives you the most amazing, off menu specials, intimately described, bring your own wine, glass and bottle opener service, this place should have a Michelin star, at least. Period. A 2 person crew including the amazing chef, with a helper on the floor, running the entire place with hand made pastas, risotto to die for, and gnocchi, the salads could kill a vegetarian kindly. I hope this place stays a secret. Felt like we were transported to a secret Italian restaurant on the edge of the canals of Venice. What a Tampa jewel.
Steven Concepcion
A piece of Italy right here in Tampa! Absolutely amazing food. Ambiance is perfect.
I had the lamb with a roasted beet risotto. I was curious as to how the beet flavors would integrate with the lamb. Needless to say I am still raving about it. Bravo.

One of the best best Italian food ever I had in my life!!! Chef amazing
Ryan Smith
Had dinner with close friends last night. Italian cuisine is not my go-to, but this was absolutely incredible! The ambience, food and service - all fantastic! Cannot believe I just found out about this place. Will be returning for sure!
Maria
Delicious and authentic! The owner is Italian. The seating is small, only a few tables, so if you can't sit down, take it to-go for sure. The portion size is good and very filling, in my opinion. I ordered the carbonara. They also have chili peppers in olive oil to drizzle on if you want - it's very spicy! You can even bring your own wine bottle. The pastas are about $13, which is honestly cheaper than expected especially since it's so authentic and way more appetizing than those overly-priced pasta dishes at Cheescake.
Jonathan L.
My favorite Italian place in the area. Hard to describe the authenticity of the dishes offered. I haven't found comparable flavors locally. They have a standard menu and are constantly rotating specials, we go here often and have never ordered something we didn't love. A few things to know before you go: 1- It's a very tiny place with maybe 6-8 tables that each seat 2 people, so you generally have to make a reservation if you want to dine in (they'll push together tables for larger parties), 2- no alcohol served, but you can byob and they'll provide wine glasses, 3- yes sometimes the service could potentially be improved and yes because it's only 2 guys running the kitchen + dining service + to go orders sometimes it can feel like a bit of a wait but they're very kind and it's worth the wait for the best Italian food around.
Rafa Piorno Rogés
don't look at the menu and let the chef surprise you with one of his creations. highly recommended!
Shamara Parker
Small and quaint. You may want to call ahead for availability.
The lasagna was good and it was enough for two. Service was good. The owner came out with a smile and took my order. It is BYOB so I'll be back again and with a bottle of something!
Brittany Meyer
I would recommend this place small but feels like your at a family members house and they are cooking dinner for you.
Sky Thai
This is a quaint and charming small Italian restaurant serving food with heart! Chef William is certainly personable and his care shows through his food. His love for Italian cuisine shines brightly with each dish freshly made!
I ended up getting the Bolognese and it was hearty with plenty of pasta, ground beef, and sausage accented with fresh basil in a tomato sauce. A rich and savory dish that will make you feel all warm and cozy inside.
The interior can be a bit crowded so I recommend coming for and early dinner or later lunch to be any crowds. You can also order out too!
The parking lot can be a little precarious when crowded so be careful so you're not playing bumper cars!
Joseph Steinberger
Chef William and his restaurant are amazing! Portion sizes are huge and food is delicious. Will always recommend this spot to anyone that asks about Italian food. Make sure you ask about the specials!!!
Natalie Roberts
First off this place was phenomenal!!! The chef/owner was awesome and the food was great!! Seating in limited so make sure you make a reservation before going. This was the best Italian I’ve had in a while!!
Edoardo Lupi
This little hole in the wall restaurant/ bistro is as Italian as it gets! I ordered Penne all’Amatriciana and they were fabulous!
As a native Italian I felt right back at home.
Well done to the chef and his waitress 😊
JEANETTE DEFRIESE
This place is truly amazing!!!! The food is truly fabulous. We were honored to join these fine folks and the meal was way above expectations.
Alicia
Now this is Italian food! I've tried the Aglio e Olio, Amatriciana, Carbonara and the tiramisu. So So good! Worth the price. This is my go to spot for scrumptious Italian food.
Lindi Sweet
I’ve been dining in and dining out for about five or six years now if you want something special like a porterhouse give him a couple days notice he’ll pick up some amazing Porter houses and make you an amazing dinner he goes out of his way he uses fresh herbs and spices so much better than Donatello‘s just give it a try you’ll be amazed as I am every time I eat his food
A Treat
Oh... this place is great. But not in a typical way. Its tiny, maybe 16 seats. No alcohol, but you can bring it. We got lucky without reservations but I strongly recommend them. The food is all made from scratch and even if not perfect it's still delicious! The lasagna is tasty and more than filling. The ziti is fantastic! I have to come back and try so many other items! ... save room for dessert, the scratch made cannolis are better than anything I've had outside of Italy!!
Tyler Kline
There are countless reasons to go to Piccola: first, and most obvious, the food is insanely delicious. We’ve gone several times now and got a number of the regular menu items - all great, and a great price point! - and there’s almost always a handful of specials. We also always start with the burrata, which is heavenly, and end with his house-made tiramisu.
Chef is always friendly and greets us when we arrive, and he is the real deal: he’s from Italy, and it shows in his cooking (I’ve never had Italian food like this). Service is also wonderful; lately our server has been an older Italian gentleman who is always having a lot of fun with the guests.
Make sure you grab your favorite bottle of wine from home before you head to Piccola, as they don’t have a license to sell wine, but they also charge no uncorking fee if you bring your own.
Piccola is a hidden gem of a restaurant in Tampa, and it always delivers on taste, service, and atmosphere.
Christina Donat
I decided to try this place as it was on my way home from work. What a lucky find!!! It is truly a hidden gem with amazing food, like something you would find in Italy. Fresh and flavorful, no doubt I will going back. I had Salmon with pesto but look forward to trying many other dishes.
Anggie Ferrer
This place is a true hidden gem, by far the best Italian food I’ve ever had. Everything you order is amazing and unlike anything you’ve had before. My personal favorite is the gnocchi with truffle sauce. The chef, William, always has different specials and can customize your dish to fit your taste. Highly recommended! Oh and make reservations because it’s very small and always full.
Jack Betzal
Great pasta meals but this seems like more of a take out place. There is seating for about 12-18 people but it's very no frills and I'm not even sure if they serve wine or beer. The pasta dishes are wonderful.
Garrett Pullara
We love this place!! It is a hole in the wall with some of the best Italian food I have ever had!!! The chef and server are very friendly. I highly recommend getting their daily specials. We have never been disappointed with the meals or the service. This place is a must try!
Gabby
Hands down one of the best restaurants in Tampa. I have been so many times with my family and friends. We will always keep coming back for the delicious food and funny humor! There customer service is no nonsense but in the best way, the owners are unapologetically themselves and I love it. Thank you for all the wonderful pasta, incredible desserts, and espresso! Don’t forget to bring your own wine bottle everyone :)
cjcabarcas
What a gem, and quite the surprise! Piccola is a small, humble establishment. There are just 5 tables, one chef and one server. Do NOT judge a book by its cover. Don't go by the menu on the table, but wait for William (chef) to tell you the specials. There wasn't a dish that we didn't absolutely love! My wife ordered the seafood plate from the specials; incredible! Ask William (chef) to read them out to you; you'll be amazed! The special I ordered left me floored! For dessert we had the Tiramisu and Limoncello cake. Wow!!! We couldn't decide which one we loved more. William is an artist at his craft and such a fine host. We will definitely return as soon as we get back to Tampa!
Mia F
the best meal i’ve ever had. taste so amazing such a cute place. so amazing. feels like a home cooked meal in italy
Vittoria Ferrentino
AMAZINGGGGG AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD THE REAL DEAL VERY FRESHHH. the restaurant feels like ur in italy and the food is to die for. very good tiramisu
Paul Blevins
A unique and authentic Italian restaurant. Don't listen to the one star reviews. Don't expect this to be like Olive Garden. You will spend 3 hours or more here. The food is made from scratch and takes time there are only a couple of people working. You're not going to eat and get out. You should enjoy this experience. The chef is great and is very frank about his process. Don't complain because everything wasn't on your schedule or the food to your liking. This place is BYOB. Enjoy life here and pretend you're in Italy.
Amanda Archibeque
My husband brought home the most delicious dinner from this restaurant tonight. Every inch of the food was flavored perfectly. The lemon cake was so fluffy and not overwhelming sweet. I dare to say that was the best slice of cake I've had. Thank you for blessing my tastebuds ♡
Joshua Zagarena
I’ve eaten her a number of times and always carry out.
Really great pasta, inexpensive prices, and always wrapped perfectly so it doesn’t spill out. By the time I get it home it’s still nice and hot.
No frills on the menu but the specials are typically great. Bolognese is awesome too!
Highly suggest checking this out the next time you’re looking for a nice to go meal.
Carolyn Wilkinson
Omg this place is awesome and just like a European bistro. Small, quant, real, excellent food. Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone.
Jason Carroll
This is such a hidden gem in Tampa I hesitate telling people about it so it doesn't get too hard to make a reservation. The food was authentic and sooo good . And at $14.95 an entree you can't beat the price. Reservations seems to be required but worth the wait.
robert marino
Wow is all I can say. Pasta is amazing. We had the bolognese and the pesto with salmon. Both dishes were amazing. BYOD as they only serve water. Very small inside and quaint with 5 tables. We went for lunch and owner served us. Very friendly. Great place and affordable. No apps, just pasta dishes. Bring your appetite as the dishes are large.
YayIts K
The food was amazingggg!!! And it was super cheap. Also I momentarily forgot that I was in tampa because of the aesthetics and again the food was so tasty. I had the Aglio e Olio and oh my god. I’m definitely going back there again! Super affordable as well & huge portions !
Karen Ko
American-sized portions of authentic, homemade-like Italian food. The food feels like it’s prepared in someone’s home kitchen and then roughly plopped onto a plate lol. It’s quite charming.
Angela Okpara
Great neighborhood spot. Perfect for celebrating an anniversary or date night. Good food, large portions, enough to have leftovers. Friendly nice staff.

This place is like no other in Tampa. But not all in a good way. Pasta is good, but not spectacular enough for a place that only has pasta for dine in and carry out, and a few other items for larger carry out. And when I say only, I mean only. No bread. No salad. No appetizers. No dessert. Only water with no ice. A bit grungy inside. Blaring, very loud Italian talk radio. I may try this place at least one more time, carry out this time. I like to support local business, especially one this small. Owner provided solid service and I am curious about a few of the other pasta dishes. I was also charged a small convenience fee and an amount slightly more than was printed on the menu. It was a small difference, but still. I will pay cash next time.
Omar Rojas
This soft spoken man and this little itty bitty restaurant Doesn't serve food , he serves love That fills you up with happiness And gratitude. We should be grateful For the brilliance he serves And be upset that more places in Tampa aren't like this. He's brilliant and deserves recognition for his art and I hope nothing changes from the small kitchen to the small dining room keep serving happiness and thank you again for the love u serve my kind sir I will be back.
Dominick Giombetti
I ate at Piccola Italia Bistro for the first time tonight. I was transported back to Italia. This will be my "go to" spot for wonderful food, service and atmosphere. I had the risotto special- the plate of food was so large, I am thrilled I will be eating it tomorrow for lunch as well. Definitely wait to hear the specials- to many to list but the artichoke app was the best I have ever eaten. I can't wait, I will be back soon! Thank you for a wonderful meal.
Whitney Lohr - Florida Living Group - Realtor
Amazing. We went to a pasta making class tonight. William was great about teaching rookies how to make pasta. We made 3 types and everything was.simply made and delicious. Would definately do this again... or not work so hard and just eat!!
Mike
Ordered takeout over the phone. Made the mistake of ordering off the specials menu without inquiring about the price. One veal pasta dish and one quail gnocchi dish was $91.55 total. I almost fainted when picking up the food and hearing the price. The food was delicious, but buyer beware. The regular menu has a single, fixed price no matter the dish ($12.95 at the time), but the specials menu has special, elevated prices. Will probably order from here again, but will stick to the regular menu.
Alejandro Pose
What a fantastic place! We were in the area and decided to try Piccola Italia because of the great reviews, and we were not disappointed! The small, cozy, unassuming place truly lets you focus on the delicious food that they serve. We were lucky they could accommodate us when we showed up because they are mostly fully booked with reservations. The owner was very polite and notified us that people with reservations would be coming in about 45 minutes. However, we could still sit down and eat if the time limit was ok with us. We appreciated the honesty and agreed. We had a wonderful experience. The menu is straightforward yet with plenty of variety and options. The food came out piping hot, and I am not afraid to say that it was the best pasta we have ever had! We tried the spaghetti Carbonara and the fettuccine Bolognese. Both dishes were fantastic, nothing like the "Italian" chain restaurants people are used to!
We are looking forward to visiting again. Next time we will make sure to call in advance for reservations to secure our table; we were fortunate to have been able to eat there the first time as walk-ins.
Marcus Caselles
This was seriously the best, most authentic Italian food I've ever tasted, not that I'm Italian. It's a one-man show, from cooking to serving, which feels very gourmet.
The daily specials turned out to be pricey, but worth it. (The regular menu was in the $12 range)
Tyler Lash
I absolutely love this place! The food is unbelievable no matter what you get. The owner William is the man and kills it in the kitchen!!! If you haven't been you're missing out. Hidden Gem!
Camille Zoller
Been coming here to eat in and for takeout for maybe three years or so. Every dish is so delicious! Unassuming, but absolutely the best restaurant in Tampa.
Jonathan Wheeler
This place reminds me of actually eating at a small place somewhere in Italy. The menu online is only half of what he probably has on special that day. Bring your own wine as there's no wine served and there's no cork fee. Tons of wine glasses though. I'm giving this a 5 because when I think of getting Italian food now, this would be my first choice. It's small and quiet, but the food is big and loud. We were even able to only vegetarian dishes which was much appreciated. I'd encourage the owner to not be afraid to have more vegetarian options going forward as the world slowly reduces their consumption of animal protein.
Krishna Chowdary
Chicken carbonara is good. Friendly staff. Definitely recommend it
Donna Puleo
If you’ve always wanted to go to Italy to eat the food, PICCOLA in Tampa awaits you! Owner/ Chef William is the best. This gracious humble man makes you feel like you are in your own house eating ! A hidden gem to say the least! Bravo PICCOLA , Bon appétit!🇮🇹 …
Matt Scarpill
I don’t Yelp but this place is worth yelping about. William’s cooking class exceeded all of expectations...and for a great price! He taught us how to cook homemade sauces and pastas of our choosing. There was no rush and no limitations, and the owner even made a few special dishes for our picky eaters. Best pasta I’ve ever had. I will 100% be coming back.
Cherlie Sterling
Everything from scratch. Authentic! Very homey & quaint in the restaurant like you’re in grandma’s kitchen in Italy. My favorite is the pesto with shrimp (I substitute the salmon w/ shrimp). It’s delicious!!!!
Jose Silva
Great Italian food. I've never been to Italy, but the food from here is the best, what I would imagine authentic Italian food taste like, i have had. Great hole in the wall. Not much seating inside, but if they are not busy food comes out relatively quickly. Would come back and try some of their specials next time.
WJ M
Fantastic Food, and the pastas are terrific. I enjoy just getting some to go. All the dishes here are good, and I've never had a bad meal. I try to go as much as I can.
Jon Wolding
Oh my god… why did I wait so long to try this place?
Best Italian food in Tampa.
Honestly, better food than any of the restaurants I’ve dined at in Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice). This is my new standard for Italian cuisine.
Jay Shender
This place is a hole in the wall Italian place. It was the best kept secret for awhile. The Chef-Owner, who is Italian, always had quirkiness to him. He never focused on customer service but cooking food was more like his hobby. The food is amazing but couple of years or so he started behaving very erratic, almost felt like he was intoxicated at work. Food is still great but he started treating his customers, including regulars, badly. It could be alcoholism or it could be a mental health issue but I wish his friends/family get him the help he need. I'm still giving him 3 stars for excellent food.
T M
The food is absolutely amazing! Make reservations or you will likely not get a table. The parking lot is small so park in the back. You have to give this place a try if you want genuine Italian food.
Update 02/12/2022. William is still an amazing chef. The prices have gone up literally only $2 and still absolutely worth. You will not be disappointed! Still only 7 tables so plan ahead.
Roberto Herrera-Camacho
William was amazing, the food phenomenal! Nice hidden gem in Tampa!
Angela G
This restaurant is a must!! If you’re looking for amazing authentic Italian cuisine, this is your place! Chef William and Brian are great! From appetizers to entrees to dessert everything was perfect! Thank you for a great date night!
D K
I read the positive reviews and decided to give it a try. The location is a tight 7 table space with 2 people doing everything (cook, server, busboy, phone orders etc). Its small and smoky from the kitchen and parking is tight. Reservations are a must.
The pasta prices are good - $12.95 for a generous portion that comes out right out of the pan. The appetizer we had was beets with broccoli rabe, artichoke, tomato and manchego with bread ($15 but a large portion)
Service was thin since two people were doing everything which is to be expected. As others have mentioned, one of the staff is a little sarcastic which I could do without.
The real surprise (shock?) was the $7.00 charge for using a credit card! Yes, the bill came to $42 but was $49 with card. I've had an additional charges for credit card (a buck or 1 or 2 percent) but $17%? Nope.
Nothing on the website about that surprise
A lot of people enjoy this place, I'm not willing to put up with the downsides, including a 30 minute drive, for a plate of pasta.
M Tenz
I have not had a food experience such as this in over 20 years. I really appreciate delicious Italian food and I find most restaurants in Florida disappointing. This little jewel was such a wonderful surprise! Wow! 👌😀❤️ The food is made with love. It is exceptional. I felt like I was in Italy 🇮🇹 and look forward to my next visit. Thank you William!
Israel Bonet
Just the kind of place I love! Not finding parking for a downtown high end meal and a flash thunderstorm that impeded the exit from my vehicle sending me a pretty clear sign that I should look elsewhere and found this fabulous little bistro. To my delightful surprise I immediately noticed that the great reviews were right on. A passionate chef, and a effervescent and witty sous chef/server are the staff I saw. Had spaghetti in a creamy smoked salmon pero sauce that was really good so I took advantage and you a Bolognese pasta dish and a tiramisu to go, because I'm only here for business and just in case I'm not able to return during this trip. The food i saw being served and the comments from the guests las me to believe this place is really special!
Maggie Kilbride
Hidden gem of Tampa. My fiancé and I could not love this place more!! The owner/chef is the kindest man, and the quality of food you get here is incredible. It’s a quaint spot with only a few tables, so be sure to come with a reservation. The owner, William, makes everything by hand and it’s about as authentic Italian as you’ll get in the States!!
Brian Labus
This restaurant I'm amazing! I'm not going to lie neither my wife or I really know what we ordered but everything was so delicious. You can genuinely see that everything was made with love. You don't get that kind of a meal without love for what you do. This tiny little restaurant will be in our regular repertoire of dinning out options and we live in Clearwater!
Chris Blackos
Food was great but felt the staff had integrity issues. Felt we were overcharged and waiter was unable to provide a detailed receipt when requested. Ordered the eggplant involtini which was good however was shocked at the price when I asked how much it was when I received the totaled bill ($14.95 for an appetizer!). Ask how much their "specials" are before ordering. They also add a "convenience" fee if you use a credit card for payment! I have never been charged an extra fee for using a credit card at any restaurant in the USA! I would give them a second chance though but use caution when ordering and pay cash.
Tim Bohn
I should rate it a 1 star to discourage others from going here. With only 5 tables including one outside I always want room for me! I have been in Tampa Bay for 10 years and I'm upset it took me so long to find this place. There are only 2 employees and they produce a kind of symphony of service, preparation and cooking which is almost as fun to watch as it is to eat. Bing your wine there is no corkage fee and be prepared to be delighted. A very simple menu with almost as many specials as menu items all prepared from scratch (I think tasted like it). Call for a reservation and bring an appetite.
Chris Landrum
Small but excellent, you can watch your food being prepared. I actually found the place by an article on msn.com as to the best cheap Italian in each state. First time I took out and could not believe how good and how much food in my order. When I dined in I ended up talking to everyone in the place nd learned you can ask for an appetizer, salad, bread and dessert. While one said the service was slow, you know at least your food is being made to order. Excellent food.
Amanda Reid
Small restaurant, but don't underestimate the quality of the food and the service. Wonderful authentic Italian specialties with a set menu as well as a number of daily specials. We tried a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Our server was personable, informative, and efficient. Will definitely return!
V Navs
Absolutely LOVE this place! Authentic Italian dishes with an awesome rotation of specials. The chef is very talented! To go meals are always served hot and fresh. You can bring your own wine dining in, just try to make reservations because the place only seats a few tables. Highly recommend the Osso Bucco or the Bolognese. Best Italian in Tampa!!
Marcus Mosley
Great pasta. Never had anything this good! Definitely a good place, the pasta was tender and delicious. I will have to come here again
Bradley L'Herrou
Great authentic Italian food. It comes in big portions and the chef always finishes cooking your takeout order once you arrive, so it's always fresh. This has been one of our go-to places for pickup over the last few months.
Meredith Sink
Delicious, freshly prepared sauces and well-cooked pasta. Very friendly owner and staff and quaint little dining area. Better than any chain restaurant dishes!
Katie Charbonier
The tortellini pasta is amazing as well as the limoncello dessert. I’m so glad we stopped in here. You have to try it.
joey majka
My new favorite restaurant. The food is amazing and service is fantastic. The chef is always trying to make new things for people to enjoy. The chef will come out and visit and chat with you to see how you like the food. They are all very humble there, and genuinely want to their customers to have a memorable time. They do a great job at making you feel welcome and like a regular.
3Gsquared
Simply fantastic! The small dining room provides an intimate experience where you can view the chef cooking in the kitchen and chit chat directly with him! The tiramisu is light and fluffy so be sure to get dessert!
Alex Crews
We drove by late on my husband’s birthday and stopped in. They were closed but the chef opened just for us. The food was so fresh and amazing, and creamy deliciousness. Really inexpensive, and hands down best Italian food in Tampa. We went to Italy on our honey moon this past February and our meal surpassed everything we had there. It really is that good. Just go, you really really need to. Just do it. It’s that good. Like seriously...
Denise Perron
Great one man operation
Byob
Chef William is an amazing cook
Make sure to start with buratta salad
Mushroom risotto
Short rib bolognase and rabbit gnocchi...all absolutely delicious
Tiramisu and cannolis ( and maybe a little lemoncello) to finish a perfect meal will want you coming back for more
Leann Ackley
I went tonight with my husband and another couple, everything was absolutely delicious and the chef was extremely personable! We all enjoyed our meals, even my husband who is a bit of a critic when it comes to Italian food. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend the tortellini!!!
Cristina Roca
This place is a hidden gem! I got take out for my family and I about a week ago and we were all blown away. It was a larger order (5 entrees and 4 desserts) and chef had it ready without error and on time. Each to go box was wrapped in plastic wrap, which was (COVID) appreciated and kept the food warm. I can't believe it took us this long to try this restaurant, but we will definitely be back!!
Joe Vileno
This was the best kept secret for Italian cuisine in Tampa...until now! My son and I went for lunch. Absolutely fantastic. I had Lobster fra diabolo, wich was to die for. My son had pork scalloping. Phenomenal!! No frills! Just the entrees. No bread, no pizzas, no massive wine list. Just Chef William doing it all in a 20 seat non descript storefront. Well worth it.
Lazaro Mesa
Bar none the best Italian food in the Tampa Bay Area. The daily specials are routinely spectacular. This is truly a hidden Tampa gem.
Andrea Herrera
Sweet lord this is a MUST stop if you’re in Tampa!! Authentic Italian that is absolutely delicious. May not be the fanciest, but the quality of the food is outstanding, the service was fantastic and the space makes you feel right at home. Wish we had a place like this down in Miami!!
Insider tip: Definitely save space for the cannolis, they’re quite possible the BEST cannolis i’ve ever had.
Allen C
Always such a treat to come here, what an amazing place.
Jolene Baldwin
One word... DELICIOUS! Seriously the freshest Italian food I’ve had in a long time. The Chef did an amazing job and Michelle (our server) was incredible. You will be missing out on a wonderful place to eat if you dont make your reservations asap! Highly recommended. Great food, great atmosphere and great prices!
Jason Zaffuto
My wife and I always complain there are not enough authentic restaurants in the Tampa Bay area...and the there's Picola. This tiny little restaurant has become one of my favorite places to eat. I have chosen food both from the standard menu and specials of the day and have not found anything less than delightful. The main courses are more than reasonably priced at $10.99 and $19.99 for the daily specials. It is because of these prices we are able to indulge in every aspect of the menu from appetizers, to dessert, and coffee. This is real, authentic Italian food at its finest!
Thomas Parotino
Absolutely amazing place and highly recommend for anyone who loves fresh Italian cuisine. Chef makes everything himself which may take a little time but is simply outstanding! Probably the best Italian I've had in Tampa.
Dennis
Easily the best Italian restaurant in Tampa, Florida. The owner's passion for cooking is beyond evident in every dish. I have been several times and each time I am still in disbelief of how good the food is.
Kevin Guthrie
The food at Piccola is incredible. I’ve tried plenty of Italian food in Tampa, but nothing compares to this place. This is my go-to place. Always consistently great food.
Everything on the menu is worth ordering and ordering again. Just close your eyes and point to something. There’s always some kind of special on the menu as well. Current favorite: Aglio E Olio. I need to cross a few more items off the menu.
One note: if you are dining in, bring your own bottle(s) of wine or a few beers.
Love this place.
Miami Food Scene
4 stars based on food alone. Service was very slow and lacked a little finesse.... but the pasta was delicious.
This restaurant has only 3 tables and doesn't serve any wine or beer. It is a BYOB kind of a place.
We had carbonara, caccio e pepe, marinara, bolognese.... everything was DELICIOUS.
Stephanie Paredes
I went here for my birthday. I called in ahead to make sure they could serve a large party (the place is tiny) and they could accommodate us close to their closing time. The food was amazing, they have a byob policy, they were super nice, pretty much a perfect experience. I'd say the pesto was the best I've ever had and I also had the shrimp diavolo special which was amazing. Looking forward to going back.
John Mercedes
Not much more can be said about perfect. The food is excellent .The waiter took his time to explain everything to us. And best, you can bring the wine you like and not have to pay inflated pricing for wines you may not care as much for. A winner here.
Doug Youngblood
MUST HAVE A RESERVATION! The dining room was empty but we were turned away because we did not have one. I left 5 stars cause everyone else did but I really can't review the place or food.
Jason Davis
Went to William's pasta making class - what a night! An intimate setting with a few other couples. You really get hands on making (and eating) a few kinds of pasta over the course of several hours. The food turned absolutely amazing and we left stuffed. Chef William made it such a special experience.
We can't wait to go back for more of his food.
Dean Goldbarry
Best Italian restaurant in all of Tampa. You will enjoy everything about this little hole in the wall. If you stick your hand through one you might find some good pasta.
Ashley Hellmer
BE ADVISED,RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST FOR DINE-IN, THEY WILL TURN YOU AWAY! -- it is a small dining space, and they have their tables set per the nightly reservations! Now for the review Delectable dive, the food is fresh and delicious. Don't come for the atmosphere or dining experience and you won't be disappointed. If you are participating in the BYOB, have your bottle out when you come in the door so the water will bring wine glasses.. and like the other reviews mentioned, bring a corkscrew! Kind of awkward dining experience, not going to lie, I'll be back... the owner and his chefs do amazing work, but the wait staff could be better.
Ian Sanders
This is an amazing little place with a great Italian chef. The food is incredible, portions are generous at amazing prices, and it's just a really enjoyable place to go. Highly recommend the meatballs, the lasagna....pretty much everything actually.
steff rose
I recently moved back to town after being away a long time. All the places I like the most seem to be closed. Looking for a new place this was recommended. So I looked it up on the internet trying to find something to quench my Hunger for lasagna. This was recommended by someone I met. And it definitely was wonderful. You don't know until you ask. No lasagna on the menu. I called they said wait a minute I talk to someone else and they said they'd be glad to make it for me but it would take about an hour and a half so I said I'll be there in 2 hours and they said that would be fine asked my name. This is not the place to go if you're in a hurry but you can make reservations. This was not the lasagna of my Italian Aunt Rachel, that I remembered to be the best ever, well it was better it was fresh, home made noodles 💗 and had a new twist to the sauce 👍👍👍👍absolutely loved it :-)
Christine Hanna
I used to frequent the Laughing Cat in Ybor City. It’s been closed for a while now and I haven’t really found a replacement for it...for when my family wants some amazing Italian comfort food without having to do the dishes. Piccola Italia lives up to its name. It is Teeny Tiny maybe 18 seats. And every dish is so delicious it’s obvious that a very skilled Italian is cooking. We ordered the kids some pasta with butter and Parmesan cheese and they told me to stop stealing it. I’ve made some pasta with butter and cheese in my day. I don’t know what was going on with it but that was so delicious I still can’t figure out why! Crazy good. And if I’m that excited about a simple dish for my kids...I can’t even speak about the rest of the food we ordered. I was gobsmacked it was so amazing. DON’T GO HERE because I want it to stay small and wonderful and I want to be able to get a table every now and again!
Kayla Meshell Canteli
Had the pesto with smoked salmon and it's amazing. Love desert as well. Very friendly staff.
Russell Hess
It's okay is the best way to describe this place. Was the food good? Yes. The service lacked a great deal. Whoever waited on us didn't speak English. Or refused to, I don't know. We were never properly greeted/welcomed. We had to request drinks, never offered. We had to ask about bread. Bread was cold. (That could be how they do it)
There were 12 of us just at our table. The place is very tiny so there were LITERALLY 7 other guests. 4 staff members couldn't handle 19 people. The upside? You can bring your own adult beverages. No cork fee. Just BYOB and drink it. But you'll have to ask for soda because they don't offer.
Lindsey Weissenbach
Don’t judge a book by its cover with this place! The food is amazing! It is one of our main go-to place for out of town guests. I think there are only 8 tables in the tiny restaurant, so the experience is extremely personable. Bring your own beer and wine too! If they have the Burratta, get it. You won’t regret it.
Michael Sinnreich
My go to place for good Italian food when I am in the South tampa environs. Everything is made fresh to order with numerous daily specials. The portions are filling, with selections that are suitable for a variety of tastes. Allergen concerns were well tended to, and the wait staff is capable of helping in the difficult decision process of choosing which delectable to go with that day.
Kunal Thakkar
Delicious food. Great service. Highly recommend you make a reservation because there are only about 6 tables so seating is very limited. Try one of the chef daily specials. They do not serve alcohol but you're welcome to being a bottle of wine
scott kaplan
Wow!!! What a find! This place is off the chain! Had the pork osso bucco with pasta special today. I don’t think I have had a better lunch ! It could have been dinner. I’m kinda in shock! I really didn’t expect to find this incredible restaurant where it’s located. Looking around at the other people eating EVERYTHING looked incredible! Eat here and you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait to go back,SOON!!! 5 stars is not enough for this GREAT place so I’m giving them 10 stars!
Anthony
The chef greeted, waited and cooked for us with such graciousness! We truly felt welcomed there. The wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen perfectly filled the intimate (and modern) space and made my wife and I even more excited to eat.
I had the carbonara with sausage and it was out of this world. The sausage were little explosions of flavor that complimented the Carbonara so well! My wife had the Tortellini Boscaiola and she lived it as well.
I find a lot of Italian restaurants are over priced; typically, you are paying for the decor and average food. But this restaurant prices their food very reasonably and the amount of flavor and care that the chef gives you makes the price an absolute steal! I love this place and will be back for sure!
Vilma Valentin/Santana
This is an AMAZING restaurant!! The owner is a total sweetheart.. Food is authentic Italian cuisine and the flavor is Mama Mia!!😘👌 To die for!! We are from NY, and when My husband and I go visit our Son in Tampa Fl. we just have to make our way to Piccola Italian Bistro it is a total treat!! Love it!!❤❤

What am kmct.fimd on my trip to Tampa. It was like sing in a small family owned restaurants in Italy. Food and service is off the charts at incredibly reasonably priced. Bring your own wine...no corkage fee!!!
Lisa Mariacher
I have been to Italy 4 times and this food is beyond AMAZING! With only 6 tables, the ambiance is quaint. BYOB...what a great way to have an authentic Italian meal. Perfect for a romantic date night!
Jake Ireland
By far the best restaurant I’ve been to in Tampa. Incredible, nice host. I never leave reviews, but felt I had to. Definitely recommend.
Marilyn Yeager
Excellent food. Best I have had outside of Italy. Very small but great atmosphere. Need a reservation. At this point, You can bring your own bottle since they do not serve alcohol.
Whitney Schubert
Absolutely the best Italian dish I have ever eaten! Quaint and peaceful with the most talented cook! Cannot wait to eat there again!
Brian Leung
Great food. Good service. A hidden gem.
Jeffrey Drummond
For my first visit I ordered the Bolognese pasta for takeout. The sauce was delicious and the pasta perfectly cooked. This gem is <2 minutes from my neighborhood Riverside Heights and I will be returning often!
Debra Totani
The best Italian food I've had since moving from NY to Florida. Everything tasted fresh and homemade.
Tanner Loyd
Chef William's kitchen punches far above its weight and produces some of the best pasta I've ever had. Plus the portions are large so at $12-14 a dish it's a total bargain for this level of pasta.
Eli Marrero
Delicious fresh food and wonderful service. We were treated like family. William the owner of the bistro made us feel at home and made a memorable dining experience for us. We will be visiting again soon. Enjoy!
Deolinda Tommasi
I was invited to eat, it's small and deceiving at sight. We sat ordered, the appetizers were exquisite, fabulous they melt in your mouth. The taste so smooth, they make their own mozzarella. Never ever have I tasted better mozarella, fresh, light and tasty.
Then came the food, as we say today OMG.
It's small, bring your own wine and bread but be ready to eat the best Italian food you ever tasted.
Gnyana Praneeth Rachapalli
I love these kind of places. Nice little hole.in the wall kind of ambience, very personable and gives that old timey feel. The guy waiting didn't seem that into it but the cook definitely was perfedlctly fit into the ambience being very courteous and personal with the guests. We ordered two appetizers and Diablo for main course. One of the appetizers was to be prosciutto stuffed with fresh Mozzarella but seemed more like ham, it was delicious nevertheless, the Diablo made with spaghetti and seafood was great, definitely the highlight of the night. We had their Tiramisu which is one of the best I have had a chance to eat. They have enough parking for the guests they can cater to at any given point.
Bess M
Truly amazing. It takes a little bit time but it’s well worth the wait! This is how you do Italian food simple with great taste I love it absolutely give it a five star
Daniel Martell
The best place in Tampa, Fl For Italian cuisine. Chef William has a love and passion for what he does. You can tell when you taste his food. I had Pasta a la putanesca. It was perfect and tasty. I will try this again!
Courtney Kelly
Since we can’t fly to Italy right now, eat here. It’s the next best thing. William, the owner and head chef, is a charming host and his food is phenomenal. You will leave Piccola’s with a full belly and a new friend.
Michael Reed
Hole in the wall privately owned restaurants tend to have the best food, and this place doesn't disappoint. Chef William has a few small tables and a handful of dishes that will tickle your taste buds and keep you pining for more. The Pesto and Burrata(sp) are my favorites, and I am yet to have a bad dish here. Appointments are recommended for evening or weekend service as there are few tables and many fans. Go get your little taste of Italy!
Calvin Bartlett
Me and my girlfriend was just sight seeing on our vacation. We saw it in passing an our gut both was like turn around. Glad we listened because ive never tasted anything like this. If you're a fan of the Mob movies this tastes like what you imagined watching them!!
Jaini Bhavsar
Hands down the most authentic Italian I have ever had. The vibe is so different and the food is simply amazing.
Jazmin Pena
I am so thrilled that we found this place. Food was amazing, service was great. Small place, hole in the wall. Don't expect nothing fancy. But it's cute. And very cozy. Bring your own wine and beer. I will be definitely go back.
Mark B
Let me start by saying I am so happy to have stopped in here, dinner tonight was excellent!! A small cozy place...the food screams fresh, chef William is a super nice guy! Definitely our new & only place for Italian...I highly recommend, definitely deserving of a 5 star review!
HYPWITCH
This Italian bistro is a hidden gem! It was so quaint and authentic. Excellent food and service and very affordable. Very happy with our visit. We will return - regularly! Thank you for the experience.
Helen Townsend
Terrific food, quaint setting, friendly and cheerful ! Feels like I’m back in Italy! The portions are large! The food is delicious. Here’s what we had: caprice with homemade burrata, Crab cakes, lasagna, osso buca, calamari with linguini, lemon cake and lemoncello. We brought our own Italian wine. Thanks William and Salvatore for a Fabulous dinner!
Chip Weiner
Okay pay attention, I don't say this often and am hesitating now because I don't want Piccola to become too popular. So let's just keep this between us. If you are looking for traditional white linen tablecloth Italian restaurant this isn't it! If you like authentic Italian food with great service and great prices, read on. Piccola is a small place in a strip center next to a Tarot Card reading shop. There are only seven tables served by a very small, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Being so unassuming is part of it's charm. Most nights reservations are necessary, and they offer 2 seating's.
There's no liquor license so BYOB. They have no corkage fee. On our visit another patron has left a share bottle (consider taking one if you go), so we were able to partake of a pretty darn good Cabernet no charge! We were greeted by Michelle who runs the front of the house. She pulled up a seat and described the specials, offered us the wine, and we felt like family.
We start with the Burrata plate ($13.95). It's a huge portion of the Burrata (fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream), perfectly ripened thick slices of tomato, fresh crisp greens, dressed in an olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I will simply say ... divine!
Next is house made Ravioli ($19.95) and it is stellar. It's served in a glass pie plate, stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese, and covered with a world class red sauce topped with mozzarella. The sweet tang red sauce is perfectly accented with basil (They call it William red- that's the Chef's name). My table mate and I discuss putting the stuff on ice cream. It's that good!
For a second entree we have Tortellini Boscaiola ($9.95) -Cheese Tortellini with peas and mushrooms in Parmesan cream sauce. It's a marvelous al dente cheese stuffed curl of pasta greatness. I've not had peas and mushrooms with tortellini before and the combination is exceptional. The thick and creamy Parm sauce is the consistency of a thick gravy and wonderful.
Chef William de Ingeniis - a one man band of culinary art delivers food to the table and checks on the meal before we leave. All standard dinner menu dishes are 9.95. Specials prices differ but are still a great value and are listed on the saloon style doors going into the kitchen. Check them before ordering!
I just love little hidden gems like this. Piccola merits 5 stars as it meets all my metrics including service, size, food, price, and attitude. Just don't tell anyone!
esteban orozco
Best authentic Italian pasta restaurants in the city. Small, no-frills, Great food, and precise!
Dioguardi Auto Sales
Sorry for the delayed review. I’ve known William for almost 20 years, when I traveled to Tampa in September, I had to bring my friends and fiancé to his restaurant so I could share with them just how amazing his food is. As usual, he didn’t disappoint. Everything we had was delicious. Ti voglio bene amico. Ci sentiamo presto.
Nick Brunner
They don't have many tables, so make sure you have a reservation or call a day in advance. The menu is small but amazing! All of the ingredients are bought daily and freshly made! One of the best kept secrets in Tampa!
Terry Ward
As good as I hoped it would be! A very European atmosphere (small, cozy, laid back, BYOB wine flowing) and excellent food and prices. The burrata salad starter is so delicious and flavorful, the Puttanesca pasta with sausage just the right spiciness level and the unfussy tiramisu - topped with crushed biscotti! - sublime. Chef William opened the door to say goodbye to us as we were loading our car in the parking lot (he was in the back when we left). When does a chef ever take the time to do that in Tampa? We will be back.
maybeth massaro
Amazing food
Enjoyed many of the specials
Tammy Folsom See
Excellent! Absolutely scrumptious meals prepared by resident chef! He even made a personal “low carb” option for one of my friends!
stephanie sills
Food is authentic and you get big portions. Worth the experience. Excellent date night idea.
polina lc
This is the real deal! The place is indeed piccola (small) but the food is authentic and delicious prepared by an Italian chef! Server is Italian too! Don’t expect American style customer service here tho, then you won’t be disappointed at all.
Maria Reyes
Amazing authentic Italian spot! Enjoyed an impromptu lunch date with the hubby and the food is delicious and they have the best tiramisu in town! Can’t wait to bring the whole family!
Reid Harris
This place is absolutely amazing. Went here with my gf and we loved it. The vibe of this place is unmatched and the food is the best I've ever had.
Claude Burpee
I took 2 sweet and fun coworkers to piccola's to show them how great it is before their kiss concert....I brought the bevs and they had 2 of the specials... the shrimp stuffed shells and the ravioli with truffle cream sauce// their dishes were wow.wow.wow// I had the house carbonara my go to but the fettuccine bolognese pasta is his best......must have is the burrata salad what a gem!!!!!
Jairus Jones
The best on Earth.. William is the greatest chef.. big portions.. tray of lasagna may be the best deal, as it's like 8 servings.. don't be discouraged by the small menu, as he can make anything.. puts the big boys to shame!!
Peter Simmons
Bellisimo! Absolutely incredible food. This place is a must visit if you are in Tampa. Sicilian delicacies at chain-restaurant pricing. Can't beat it, and the Tiramisu is to DIE for!
Caitlin Kinney
This place has the best pasta and at an affordable price! Both dishes we ordered were amazing and the tiramisu was even better! Will absolutely be going back soon!
Candice Deaton
*DISCLAIMER*.........Yes the food is amazing and you will never find a better Italian place...........BUT!!!
1) The Waiter (evening on Saturday) speaks zero English. I get that he has been in America for less than a year but someone should be able to understand customer's. *I asked for two wine glasses and he just nodded then walked away* When he came back (ten mins later) he said "You ready?" (Bless him) My wife had already given our appetizers order *again...ten minutes ago* I guess he "forgot"/"didn't understand her" lol
2) I ask for two wine glasses again. He smiles, nods and brings me a solo glass. (Not a wine glass)...........My wife kind of chuckles and says "I think he thought you said "ONE glass...not WINE glass"
3)He was super friendly and again I say (bless him) He tried so hard to be a good server.
4) We brought our own corkscrew just because we didn't know what to expect. Well long story short we ended up sharing it with every table around us because the waiter (again bless his heart) didn't seem to know what anyone was asking for when they requested one.
5) Florida with a front door open...insects were flying all over the place. The front door was proped open the entire time and baby mosquitos were flying all over.
Soooooo make of this review what you wish...the food is amazing but everything else is a kind of a "as you will it so should it be" ONLY WITHOUT THE "SHOULD IT BE."
Pamela Reeder
Small restaurant just like in the small villages in Italy. Fresh food. You feel like family here. Delicious specials and regular items. BYOB with no corkage fee.
Parker Goodman
This place is absolutely amazing! Worth every penny + more , definitely check out this authentic Italian restaurant if you are in the area.

Looks like a really quaint place to eat, it is very small setting approximately 12'x15' room, 5 or 6 tables at the most. Food looked and smelt great, I didn't eat anything because I was there just doing a Birthday Singing Telegram!
Julia McGrath
I wish i had taken picture beforehand. This place is absolutely delicious. Authentic Italian food!

Tiny place, VERY good food. Both dishes I had were perfect. The right amount of every ingredient. Not a huge selection, but what is there is excellent.

Jonathan Altieri
What a wonderful restaurant, what wonderful food, what a wonderful gift to Tampa this place is.
If you're looking for a home-cooked meal done seemingly overnighted from the heart of Italy, look here!
Take it from a guy with the last name of Altieri, this Italian Bistro is not to be taken lightly.
Adrian Benavides
William serves up the best Italian food in Tampa, Michelle is a sweetheart who keeps things entertaining and lighthearted, AND you get to bring your own wine. Amazing spot.

Ate here for lunch and had the Bolognese....what an amazing meal--it is a place that you absolutely cannot miss. I hope to go back soon (maybe again tomorrow?!?!)

The food was very good however the service is so terrible I will never return. This was my second visit and the waiter was extremely rude and spoke as little as possible. I had to ask for a glass of water. Barely acknowledged me the entire time.

(Translation) You will think that it is easy for an Italian to evaluate a fellow countryman but it is not true. I argue that the Piccola Italia restaurant is a precious gem of Tampa. The owner is an attentive person and able to make you taste well-made food with an evidently Italian flavor. The place is simple, in a style that reminds me of old films with Alberto Sordi, but just like in those films, you can enjoy Italian culture and cuisine. In Florida there is a place worthy of the best Italian culinary attention highly recommended. Full marks.

Dieci e lode.
