Reviews of Umi Sake House
Ketty Nakamura
Born and raised in Hawaii, my husband and I have high standards for raw fish and Japanese food. Keep in mind that this is not a traditional Japanese restaurant. We went for Happy Hour and were very impressed by the price, quantity, and quality of the food. Everything we ordered was amazing and we finished it all! Service was quick and excellent. The “outdoor” setting had a nice ambiance. Coincidently they were even playing local Hawaiian radio music that made us feel at home. We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back when we’re in Seattle!

We ordered mostly mostly off the fresh menu and was not disappointed. Probably the best sushi I have ever had. It was melt in your mouth fantastic. The rolls were huge so keep in mind when ordering. Atmosphere was nice and ever though it was busy we felt well attended to. Sitting at the sushi counter and watching the chefs roll out one plate after another was cool.

Best Sushi in Seattle! Hands down! Great service, and an amazing environment! The food is always perfect and so delicious! It's very reasonably priced and always a great experience. They get very busy, so I recommend making reservations, also try for happy hour for better pricing! A definite must when in Seattle! Five stars all day!

For the first time had a good vegetarian sushi. Very nice ambiance and pretty big place. Lots of vegetarian options to choose from. Their service is good and they do have birthday special dessert. The fried ice cream is worth a try. Found pretty reasonably priced for the given quantity.

Overall good experience. The only thing was that we didn’t feel the food was as good as we expected after we read all the other reviews. We didn’t make a reservation and they were able to sit us in short period of time. The place was very popular and spacious. The service was also great and quick. The nigiri we ordered was okay. My husband didn’t like the octopus one because it was very difficult to chew. The shrimp tempura wrapped with fried noodles wasn’t as good as they look. Its better to eat it right away when it’s hot. Our favorite was actually the DYNAMITE BAKE, which was savory.

The ambience and the food was great! We got the decadence & lady bug sushi & it was fantastic. It was vegetarian but brilliant. The vegetarian sushi platter however was not as good and definitely not worth the money. We also had the spicy ginger tomato hot plate and it was delicious. Definitely recommend this place for a night out in town! Make a reservation a few hours before you want to dine in. There’s a lot of street parking, if not a lot of paid parking lots near by too.
Joseph Accettura
Nice sushi place with a cool expansive rear area. Definitely recommend sitting in the couch area if possible. Service was great even though it was very busy and everything was quality. Soft shelled crab was a major highlight and they had some great Sake tasting notes.
Vanessa A
This is THE sushi spot for amazing sushi, drinks, and a fantastic atmosphere. The sushi is similar quality to Japonessa, but the cocktails and awesome wait staff put this place just a step above. Great for large parties as well, as long as you make a reservation.
Decent street parking and paid lots nearby.

The best things about this place are that it's open late, and the late night happy hour menu from ten to eleven. The food is great too, with a good selection of late night cheaper small plates and drinks. I went there twice l, sat on the bar and it was good both times. Fast kind service and good food. The bad thing about this place is it has a bad smell of chemical cleaning solution. Very off-putting when you step in. They need to do something about it.
Yalined Rohena
I was really impressed. The sushi was delicious and the meat. Service was really good, the ambiance of the place was very nice. Very nice for a date and the value is good too. Happy hour is the best!

Umi Sake House is a Japanese restaurant in Belltown. It's got a lot of seating inside, however you wanna make reservations since it's packed quite often. The staff are super friendly and very good with recommendations. Their menu is pretty big, prices are average for the Seattle area, and portion sizes are pretty good. They have super fresh fish, food comes out quickly, and they have great drink options (house hot sake is cheap and good). Happy hour menu starts at 10pm if you're around later in the evening. The ambiance inside is really cool since they have tons of plants and wood, so you feel like you're almost outside. The bar seats tend to be taken for hours at a time, but they do limit you to 2 hours at a table as well.
Karen VanHooser
I do recommend this place.
This is probably the best sushi I ever had. We try the jalapeno one and we also try the one name hot as hell and it was literally so hard that it make me sweat but well worth the sweat and the price. If you go during happy hour you'll find many options but if you do not want to buy from the happy hour menu the regular menu is actually pretty decent for the quality of the fish and the service I will get.
Price 4/5
Place 5/5
Service 4/5

The place is great for gathering with Japanese sake! Happy hours menu offers great price/value dishes. I would give a rating of 5 if the grilled salmon collard not overly cooked!
Sol
"Wow" that is what we basically said after every thing we tried! Umi Sake House is the place to go if you like sushi hands down. Its super busy, so thats something to keep in mind but its sooo worth the wait.
Every roll we had was fresh and had a perfect balance of flavors! The chicken karaage was fabulous! Beautifully breaded and seasoned dark meat with a perfect dip for it. We finished our meal with their icecream tempura and tbh we were expecting a small scoop.....imagine our surprise when we got it and it was essentially a bit bigger than a softball LOL Was a great finisher.
Food aside the service was top notch. A server was constantly stopping by to top off your water without you needing to ask. Max, our waiter, was a huge help for our questions and gave great recommendations! His enthusiasm and energy was as much as a highlight as anything else during our visit. Keep up the good work man!
Swanky Christy
My favorite happy hour place in town. I love their happy hour its very good quality at decent price.
My absolutely favorite is vegetable tempura that is very delish, uni and crab tower.
The restaurant has very nice vibe and its very big with garden in the back. I like to sit at sushi bar because it has a very nice open sushi bat station. It can get busy and wait sometimes can be over 1 hour.
So far we tried almost all items on happy hour menu and I was very satisfied with everything. Sashimi are very tender!
From drinks my favorite mango cocktail, lychee cooler, and lemon ginger lemonade.
Ryan Kimball
From NYC, best sushi I ever had. Has a "fresh" menu of fish caught that day, that wasn't frozen. Waiter was super helpful with recommendations. Was able to secure a reservation the day prior online

This a great place with a good ambience. We went on a Friday and the place was packed. We did have a reservation so got a table on arrival. We tried the shishito peppers grilled with sake and some Japanese whisky. I took the fillet mignon followed by the pike place roll. I really like the pie place roll. The subtly of the flavor with the smokiness of salmon was just great. The mignon was okay and perfectly cooked with a side of salad. Would recommend the pike place roll though. They have tons of sushi roll options so may need a couple more visits.
Dean A
Superb sushi, amazing seaweed salad, phenomenal service! Couldn’t have asked for anything better. Wait was a little long, but totally worth it!
Fabian Haverbeke
Absolutely excellent quality! We came for happy hour, and either sushi rolls, agedashi tofu or tempura were all of exquisite quality - melting in the mouth, delicious.
Happy hour portions are smaller than regular, and a lot cheaper; although not cheap. But certainly worth the price!
Demetria Sparks
This place has amazing sushi. They also have a ton of vegetarian options for people who don't eat meat or fish. They are not simple boring roles either but exciting and tasty. Your experience starts with a plate of edamame. They then have the option of buying a whole serving or not. They have miso soup which is vegan. We got Gin and Tonics and Gin Martinis which were both delicious and reasonably priced. The rolls are expensive but you get a lot of sushi, they are really big rolls.
Phuong Ngo
The sushi was pretty good and the staff was nice and fast. Seeing how quick they went at the sushi bar made me appreciate their work.
The atmosphere is nice if you don't care how loud it can get during lunch/dinner times.
Jack Guthrie
This place is great! I came to Seattle looking for good sushi and this place delivered. I sat at the counter so I could see all the action but there is a variety of seating. They have an extensive menu. I got the Moonraker, Belltown Barbie, Cali Kristy, and some Miso. Waitress was very helpful in walking through the menu and attentive. No on cheap side but worth it.
Toby Grainger
Fantastic sushi. We were sat at the counter with the sushi being prepared in front of us. We had the chef special nigiri followed by some rolls that were recommended by our server. The belltown barbie roll was awesome! Good atmosphere and great service.
David Lazar
I found Umi on a list of the best sushi restaurants and it did not disappoint. Unassuming from the street, with a cheeky sig that says “let the good times roll”, I was definitely surprised by the quality here. When you first enter, the foyer with takeout orders looks like the restaurant may not even have dine-in seating at all. Not true.
The interior features a separate dining room with Japanese style floor seating, a small indoor garden and a huge fishtanks. My girlfriend described the atmosphere as “therapeutic” and I would tend to agree. One complaint is that the booth style table are an awkward height (almost like a coffee table) and the benches were so wide and far apart that my girlfriend and I sat on the same side.
We were not super hungry but we got the pork gyoza appetizer which was small but a perfect amuse-bouche for a few rolls and some nigiri. We split the “Olympia Roll” (which was a special) and the fruity “Mango Tango” Roll.
We also got a few pieces of Kampachi Nigiri, the best I have ever had, and some locally sourced Ora King Salmon. It was not as good but both were just the perfect cut.
If you are looking for a good date spot, celebrating an anniversary, or just in the mood for some really good sushi, check this place out. It was touch but not impossible to get a reservation and you won’t regret a trip to this dimly lit oasis.

We came for the happy hour from 10-11pm at night. They managed to seat 8 of us, and the food came really quickly too. I tried the chirashi don, sashimi set, tempura set, and the rotating special roll. All were pretty good, especially for happy hour prices! I heard the rotating roll can be hit or miss, and it was kind of key today - spicy tuna tempura roll. But overall, I think it's very worth it if you want a decent meal, with fast service.
Sidney Smith
Excellent service and top notch sushi. I had the Takayama dumplings (octopus) and the special Mona Lisa roll with spicy tuna and spicy seared snow crab. Most excellent. There was quite a line to get in but since I was single they put me right at the bar. The minute I sat down a waiter put a plate of hot edamame before me. Wonderful!
Molly W
Fantastic experience. Intimate setting that feels nice but not so nice that it’s inaccessible. Had so much fun tasting our way through the sake and the sushi was fresh and totally amazing. Staff was very helpful and accommodating of our gluten free requests for celiac. We’ll be back for sure in the future.
jms2564
2nd time here in 2 days! That’s how much we loved the food (and service!) we came back! Delicious uniquely-named sushi rolls (Mona Lisa & Moonraker were my faves!) and generous serving of tempura ramen to cap our night! Thank you Nikki & Gigi!!!
Bryan Doyon
Excellent sushi in a vibrant and upbeat atmosphere. Service was friendly and attentive and the space is open and light despite being tucked away in the back of the restaurant. The menu has an excellent selection of sushi with great flavors and combinations. Similarly the drink menu was extensive with some refreshing and unique options. The place can definitely get busy even on a weeknight so make reservations if you can. This is easily one of the best options in the area for sushi.

After the Jimmy OuYang Show, we had to hit this spot. We solely came here for the Happy Hour and we were beyond satisfied. Make sure to make a reservation tho :) Everything from food, vibe, service, to the behind the wall restroom were amazing. We got the Sashimi Set $13, Specialty Roll $15 (it changes everyday, so ask the server), Garlic Short Ribs $10 (well marinated), Hama Kama $10 (fattttty fish gill). Shout-out to our waiter for getting us the last one of the night.
Leslie H
Awesome sushi spot! Happy hour was great. Sashimi excellent, the sauce on the short ribs was unreal and the service was perfect. The i❤️ roll with uni was tasty but didn’t leave me feeling amazing after.
Gabriela Chang
The food was delicious.
We ordered california roll, orange crush, seattle roll, sake salmon sashimi slices, toro nigiri and shrimp and vegetables tempura. Our favorites were the seattle roll, salmon sashimi, the crispy and light tempura and the toro, which melts in your mouth.
I want to go back there to eat every day.
Claire Hoon
Came here during happy hour. I did a lot of research before coming, and they seem to offer good food at less expensive prices compared to the sea of other Japanese restaurants also doing happy hours.
Well, the sashimi was decent but I was slightly disappointed because of the rave reviews. At $12, I wasn't expecting ootoro but the slices were very average in taste and portion. The "bad boy" roll was good, but on the smaller side. I did not feel full after my meal.
On the plus side, service was excellent. I also enjoyed the nigori sake I ordered. I just wish I tampered my expectations before coming. However there was nothing inherently bad about what I ate, hence the 4*.
Sarah Bowers
Fun place to eat alone on a work trip or with friends. I ordered Nigiri and the Sassy Sara roll. It was incredible and the service was fast and courteous! Definitely would come again. The food was excellent and well priced. Gin cocktail very nice as well.
Manaswi Karra
We loved the food here! We were a mixed group of vegetarian and pescatarian folk. The vegetarian people ordered the veg sushi platter, agedashi tofu, miso soup and beet salad. The other dishes we ordered were the sea food pan seared gyoza and fried lobster. My brother loved the lobster! The sea food gyoza was also juicy and extremely flavorful.
We shared a bottle of cold Sake.
Shreya Sriram
The food here was pretty good. I'm vegan and while I stated this to one of the staff members, they recommended something that wasn't vegan (another staff member stated that it was vegetarian and not vegan). I wish they had a vegan menu to avoid the confusion. I'm not allergic to dairy so I didn't fall sick but I wish they take dietary restrictions more seriously.

Not sure why I haven't written a review for this place yet. Came here many times before and again yesterday for HH. I love going here for HH. This place has some amazing hh. Very good, favorable, and fresh food at a reasonable price, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere. The only downside is finding parking can be a pain.
If you are looking for a hh spot this place is an excellent option.

I recently dined at Umi and was blown away by the quality and flavor of their dishes. The seared salmon nigiri was absolutely delicious - the salmon was perfectly seared and the flavors were spot-on.
The Belltown Roll was also very tasty, with seared salmon and crab that worked together perfectly. But the real showstopper was the Dynamite Bake, a dish consisting of flavored crab and scallops that was truly out-of-this-world. The combination of flavors was incredible, and the dish was presented beautifully.
Overall, I would highly recommend Umi to anyone looking for top-quality sushi with a modern twist. The service was also excellent, with friendly and attentive staff that really made the experience special. I can't wait to come back and try more of their amazing dishes!

My bf took me here for Vday. We had a great time. This is definitely our new favorite sushi place. It's reasonably priced, great atmosphere and the service is great. We got some delicious drinks, some nigiri, and a sushi roll. The chef made us a custom roll that was extra spicy. It was a real treat 😋 I would recommend trying this place out if you want to sample fresh pnw sushi 🍣
Bethany Phillips
Great ambiance. Sake cocktails were delicious-I had cucumber & elderflower. Sushi was very fresh and tasty. I had the Thunderball roll, shrimp Diablo, Crunchy Seattle, tuna roll
Vidhi Naik
I absolutely loved Friday evening vibe. I am a vegetarian and I was delighted to see few vegetarian sushi options on the menu. Don’t forget to order sake there. Tiramisu was a little sweeter than what I would usually prefer but no complaints.
Amanda Conway
Delicious and fresh, great service and amazing food. We got to sit at the sushi bar and watch five artists showcase their sushi making. It was fun and memorizing.
We also did the sake flight, two sushi rolls, and the udon noodle soup. All incredible! We finished with the light, delicious green tea ice because they were out of mochi and macarons. So good!
Rayston Leong
Happy hour 4-6pm! Very affordably priced rolls, bites and alcohol! Must try! All in picture +2 sake came up to $46 before tax for 3 pax. Highly recommended.
Shahar Greenberg
Really amazing service and overall good value for money at the Uni Sake House.
The miso soup was fantastic (no picture taken), as well as the agadashi tofo.
For the sushi ordered, the eel was nicely done as well as all salmon based roles ordered. Would definitely try this place again , and suggest ordering a table a day in advance
Paige Branam
Obsessed with their rolls! The Godzilla roll and first Ave roll are must haves. Their sake selection is also top notch and well worth trying a variety of options. I also thoroughly enjoyed the tempura green tea ice cream!
Allie LaMadrid
Absolutely delicious!!! So many amazing options for specialty rolls and cocktails! And the nigiri was so fresh! Also a great lively atmosphere!! Highly recommend - we will definitely be back!
za_zsc
Lobstah tempura and 6 different nigiris. The lobster was nothing special tbh, the nigiris were nice and the fish was clearly fresh. Service was great and fast also th preparation although full restaurant. Overall recommended and will come back again to try other dishes
LeeAnna Springer
Great feeling when you walk in, great service, as a sushi lover I thought the sashimi was great however the rolls could have been much better as in spi e and flavor. All in a great spot.
Yandong Li
Mango tango roll is a bit too sweet, street fighter is pretty good with jalapeno spice, Seattle roll has heavy cream cheese. The calamari salad is a good appetizer?
Dan Mou
Solid place for great good. Big space that could cater small table to large group.
We had the fried chicken and garlic short ribs for starters. Both amazing!!
A very big and solid specialty rolls menu. We had the Demonslayer, Seattle Roll, and Moonraker. All very good. Love some spicy on the rolls and it's just the perfect amount of stimulation to awakening your taste bud.
Kevin Chong
No luck of dining in without reservation - especially on Fridays/weekends. The atmosphere inside was great and servers were super busy. But they were quick with orders and also super friendly. We ordered the Omakase (Nigiri/$80). Everything tasted fresh and the portion wasn’t bad at all - we (2 people) were satisfied at the end. I wish there was a bit more space between tables because it felt pretty crowded.
Traveling Foodie
Come at 4-6 for their happy hour!
Great place for happy hour.
This place has a variety of different foods and sushi rolls. Their tempura has a light batter and they have a massive selection of sushi. The sushi rolls get a bit pricey so I’d recommend going during the happy hour to reduce the price. A lot of menu items aren’t available (hence the four stars).
Come here early also it gets really crowded.
Dana Fayoumi
The sushi rolls we had were very good and the vibe at the restaurant is also fantastic! The edamame we had before dinner were cold though.
Bella A
It’s a nice cozy restaurant for dinner time. We had everlasting rolls here for dinner. Unfortunately, the food was not what we expected so I’m not able to give 5 stars. Service was not okay.
Aaron Simpson
Dined here on New Years Eve 2023 and had an exceptional experience with my partner. Extremely high quality food, great service, and a great, bustling atmosphere. Picking a favorite dish is a challenge, but the lobster bake was absolutely delicious, and the fatty tuna was unlike any other fish I've ever had. On top of this is an extensive sake list. One of our rolls took a bit longer than the rest and they comped it for us when we would have gladly paid for it. Our waiter did a great job taking care of us especially considering just how busy it was. We live in Portland and we cannot wait to dine here again!
Nicole Daaboul
A great restaurant for a date night.
Loved the varieties that they offer.
I recommend ordering Mango sprite drink and the crunchy cali is to die for.
Marco Gutierrez
It was my first time to Umi Sake House. I met a couple of family members for dinner. We all really enjoyed the atmosphere, the decor is well placed, and the vibe is a combination of Zen, friends, and fun. I was pleasantly surprised on the fresh, clean and vibrant flavors presented in each dish. This was a good first impression on the food side. Unfortunately, it was followed by below average service from our server. The other servers appeared to be more engaging, and attentive, so I believe other tables received better service. This I round one of three, I will update review after my third visit, which I will do soon because the food was very good.
Morteza Taiebat
Best bang for the buck during happy hour (4-6 pm)
Shrimp tempura roll is amazing! Highly recommended.
Soumya Saha
Went there to meet few office friends for Dinner. We were served with Edamame which I continued eating until they were finished.
We tried the soft shell crab and had a few sushis that I don't the remember the name of. The soft shell crab was so good, sushis were excellent too.
The service was top-notch. It was very noisy inside and it was difficult to hear each other. But overall ambience was enjoyable.
Erick Liu
Great food. Great service. Very filling (and healthy) quality meal for under $40. Started off the meal with complementary edamame. The chirashi bowl is amazing.
Kalki LUVSLAKSHMI
Amazing service. Very delicious veggie and tuna sushi. However Americans drive me mad! In Japan you wouldn't be talking at 50db in this kind of setting 🤣
keeshini
They had decent vegetarian options. Tried the veg platter, had some great and not so great sushi in that platter.
TinaEh VangLee
The service was excellent. Our waitress was amazing and helpful. The server serving our water was great. The bathrooms were quite clean as well. Overall, the experience is great. But, unfortunately, the quality of the sushi falls short of the higher end sushi. The rice was very sticky on all 8 of our sushi rolls. Very sticky rice made for the sushi rolls to grab onto each other and can disassemble the sushi roll. The sushi quality is close to the highest end of buffet sushi. The coconut lobster soup was a let down as well; overloaded with onions, 4 tiny pieces of lobster and it tasted much more like the onions in the soup instead of actual coconut lobster soup it was portrayed as. While the service was top tier, the sushi and soup we had this night was only decent.
Julia McMahon
Some of the most quality fish and rolls that I've had. Very creative special rolls with layers of flavor. Great happy our deals too!Lovely vibe and interior. The service was efficient and everything we ordered was correct, we never went without water or anything we needed, just not super friendly. I'm not sure we knew our servers name. Overall would recommend!
Heather McIntyre
Visited Seattle for one day and hoped we would find a good spot for sushi. This place did not disappoint! It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the decor and ambience inside was impressive. The rolls and sashimi were phenomenal. The salmon sampler was our favorite, everything tasted so clean and fresh. Our server Elisa was very attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend this restaurant!
Joey Schooley
Absolutely fantastic service, scene, and food. There's a lot of sushi in Seattle and this one takes the cake for quality and presentation for the price-- my picture is not even the fancy presentation that you can ask for, which I'll try next time as I eagerly await my next visit. The green tea tiramisu dessert is also delicious.
Jordan
Great sushi and nigiri! I would definitely come back, make a reservation if you can!
Lidia Infante
This was great!!! I got recommended this restaurant by my tour guide and I had a genuinely amazing time. The first sushi platter I ordered was some of the best I've ever had. I do not recommend the Tarantula sushi tho, it's too spicy.
The quality of the crab used in the sushi was beyond. I had a fabulous time.
Jeremy Hidey
The sake cocktails were fantastic and the omakase was good but not great. 4 out of 5.
Laura Zarate
Amazing, incredible service. The food is just delicious and it was my birthday so they gave me a dessert. It’s been so long since a restaurant has done that for me! The Mona Lisa roll is from another world, the seared salmon is just delicious.
Dave Woronuk
What a great restaurant. Food was the best sushi we have ever had, and we have had a lot. You walk in and wonder where this small place can seat anyone but they take you back to an elegant, large and beautifully decorated area that adds to the experience.
Service was exceptional and the sushi was amazing.
If you haven't gone, plan on it.
Marvin loh
Definitely a gem of a find on Google, nice ambience, food were on point (favourite was the uni served, fresh and creamy!)
Service staff (Elena) was all smiles and knowledgeable.
Only bone to pick, would be good to monitor the pace / when to serve dishes for multiple orders. Otherwise, definitely worth your dollar. Oh the selection of sake is mention-worthy too!
Raj Shah
This is our go-to place in Seattle for dinner and we love it everytime we're there. Even if you're a vegetarian you have a few options to choose from and you can never go wrong with them.
Update: Their champagne cocktails are worth trying for.
Update: We tried a different appetizer (Spicy Ginger Tofu) and we loved it. It comes with a broth and the flavors were delicious.
Richard Ellis
Our first time visiting and I really don’t have anything except positive things to say with the exception of limited manning (which really didn’t affect us as we had early reservations). We had a reservation at 1600 and was promptly seated. Best part, they have multiple variety of raw fish unlike the typical tuna and salmon. The “daily fish” menu was fantastic, especially the white king salmon special and amberjack! Our server was great! We understand why this place is well liked in Seattle! We will definitely go back - trust me, for Americans with limited knowledge of the vast variety of raw fish, this place is top notch! (I was born and raised in Japan and always complaining the blandness of non-Japanese fake sushi joints). 5 Stars!
Mikael M
Nice sushi place. I loved the design of the place. Stuff was friendly too. Would like to try again.
ferial mhr
We enjoyed every meal we had here
Super awesome
Friendly staff
Clean and cute vibe
Bridget Engstrom
If I could give an 11 star out of 5 I would! No soy sauce needed for specitaly rolls, the worst part about eating here was deciding what flavor of sushi roll to end on. I wish I could move this place to my city. Could not be more impressed with the lucky leprechaun and 206 roll, such a good combo complemented but some fine sake!
Jin Gray
Great sushi rolls!! You won't be disappointed with any rolls you order! It can be very loud, but fun & lively environment. Highly recommend!!
Sally G
Very busy and loud during happy hour. Recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Tried a lot of their HH rolls and did not disappoint! Bad boy roll was my favorite. Parking in this area is a pain though. We paid $15 to park at the Republic lot.
Richard Todd
Visited years ago and remembered this place when I was downtown recently. It was busy - and rightly so, the food is brilliant. Talented chefs prepping top quality sushi! Will be back!
Andrew Crimmins
We had an amazing dinner here and we weren't expecting such a cool dining experience in their lowered table. The server was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious, including the dessert!
Chris Seltzer
Absolutely exceptional service is the first thing I'd note. The sushi can stray a little bit from traditional but that's not a bad thing.
Much more of a party atmosphere. And even though I visited alone I would imagine it's a great place to take a group out fir a night.
The mochi ice cream is the perfect way to finish off a meal and a must have if you're going to visit.
Zhanna Marchuk
Came in for happy hour & was waited by Sierra.
She was very pleasant and promptly took our order and was very attentive. Good came out quickly and efficiently and everything tasted wonderful.
We got the bad boy, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and dragon roll. As well as edamame to start. Hot sake to pair. Very well priced happy hour and pleasant atmosphere.
Isaac Nuss
Fresh artfully crafted sushi, chill atmosphere, and nice service. Recommend getting the fresh list items as they were fantastic.
Kushal Reddy
Umi Sake’s massive menu provides enough motivation to be adventurous. Moonracker is great. Ladybug for vegetarians is great. 1st ave roll is also good.
Thomas Safran
Amazing sushi, and super fresh! Fun atmosphere, but can be a little noisy at night. Even though they were busy, we still got our food relatively fast.
Todd Schwiesow
This place is amazing! From the atmosphere to the service and absolutely the food everything is top notch. They have a great happy hour menu that includes many non-fish related items. And their selection of house recipe rolls is off the charts! They have an amazing selection of sake, and some really fun craft cocktails from the bar, including my personal favorite the lychee lemonade martini.
I haven't had better sushi pretty much anywhere else... Do yourself a favor and make a reservation! Be prepared for a crowded house especially on weekends, this place is popular!
madhavi paropkari
I had a dinner here with my girl friends and it was lovely. They were very accommodating with my dietary preference and made the most delicious vegetarian sushi for us. No idea what to order next time but will definitely come back. Cutting one star for it being very noisy and tables were extremely close making other group practically sitting shoulder to shoulder.
August Oppenheimer
What an incredible experience. The place is huge and the ambience is bustling, but warm and friendly. The sake options were plentiful and we had two nigori bottles that were divine.
But the sushi? Game changer. The kitchen here definitely has some go-tos for ingredients, but I really appreciated how adventurous they are with their rolls. They also have the greatest selection of genuinely interesting vegetarian rolls I've ever seen, which my partner loved.
Can't wait to come back!

We did a walk-in and were able to find seating at the bar. The service was great. Sushi was also good, I think I wasn’t as impressed with quality, not saying it wasn’t good because it really was. The Uni quality was amazing though, it was so rich and creamy. If you’re into sea urchin, this is the place.
Rebecca Kintzley
Comfortable, cute, nice decor, modern, great customer service, reasonable timing on food preparedness and spacing of food delivery. All of our food was excellent especially the salmon and yellowtail sashimi. Miso was great too. We ordered the Mona Lisa roll which was something that has not been duplicated elsewhere. It was a bit spicy with all the jalapeños but those were easily removed. The flavor was superb.
We wanted to try the green tea tiramisu however they did not have any tonight. Instead we had Mochi and it was good as well. The Choya plum wine is fruity and tasty. I’ve had it before many times so I knew what I was getting. This restaurant is a must eatery especially if you are visiting from out of State like we are.
Boris Kazarez
Fantastic sushi and small plates. Really loved the lobster bake.
Jonghyuk Jeon
One of the best sushi spots around. They offer fresh and jam packed filled sushi rolls as evidenced in my accompanying pictures. I love the balance of their sushi rolls because they aren’t overly or under-sauced. Just perfect!
Helen W.
The happy hour here is really good! It’s 4pm - 6pm everyday and they have a wide variety of items including sashimi, sushi, appetizers, and sake. The inside was very nice with a garden in the middle. The service was quick and prompt as well.
Lindsey Granath
My fave sushi spot in Seattle! The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is delicious and fresh, and the staff is always so nice and knowledgeable! I'm not very savvy on sake and I appreciate the wait staff helping me in choosing something I may enjoy.
Abbey Hill
Everything here was top notch! The fish was so fresh. If you can get a table during happy hour, the prices can’t be beat for the quality you get! The bad boy roll and garlic short rib were our favorites from the night. Highly recommend!
Jesse Narez
Excellent food, walked up without a reservation and was seated pretty quickly. Great atmosphere.
Jose Chacon
I like the place. It was very neat and clean. I tried the “Blood of the dragon” “Butterfly” and “Mona Lisa” Rolls. The “Butterfly was citrusy and great between the other rolls. “Blood of the dragon” was spicy for me. It had a Huge Kick. “Mona Lisa” was spicy too but not as much. I’m glad the staff came often to refill our water. I loved the flavors. Highly recommend this place.
Fernando Godinez
Was in town for the weekend and found umi right down the street from where I was parked. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The sushi was great tried a variety of rolls, but the temperature at which it came out was a little concerning (warm or room temperature). Service could've been better had to flag our waitress down for our drinks a couple of times and to order additional rolls, since they weren't making frequent stops at our table. Other than those knit picks I would definitely recommend umi to friends and family.
Ravit Komraz
The food is absolitly delicious. Our waitress was very nice and pleasant. The Muchi ice cream was so good we asked for two more and got them on the house! Definitely recommend. If we ever come to Seattle again, will sure come back.
Mackenzie Brisben
I had dinner here with a friend last night and it may be the best sushi I’ve had in Seattle so far. They bring out complimentary edemame and have GF soy sauce. I started with some saké and tried the Yoshinosugi Omachi Taru Yamahai. It was very cedar and awesome and my favorite between the two that I tried. I also tried the Harushika Junmai saké which was good but almost tasted just like white wine. My friend had the Deadbird Cabernet and liked it- it was a very generous pour. For Sushi I had the Seattle Roll, which was amazing, and the 008 Roll, which was INSANE how delicious it was. My friend tried three rolls: the Spicy Salmon Roll, The California and The Negi Hama Roll. They were all made gluten free for her celiacs and she loved them. We will be back! 🍣🍣🍣🍶🍶🍷
lily liu
Every dish I tried here is amazing! The sushi, sashimi, and appetizer qualities are unbeaten for their price, especially during happy hour! Been Coming back here at least once a month. Don’t forget to reserve a table!
Disha Goel
1. I like everything that I have tried here in multiple visits.
2. Fast and quick service, clean place.
3. Sometimes loud music can be disturbing.
Kay-Kay M.
We were in the Seattle area for a couple days and were craving Japanese food. We found this place on Google and decided to give it a try. Sooo glad we did. It was absolutely amazing. Food and service were outstanding.
Allie Sisson
Consistently one of the best sushi spots in Seattle! The setting is intimate and super fun and the fish is always so fresh. We recently tried their private room which was a blast for 10 people. Order the sake tasting to complement the variety of rolls and nigiri! A must try to satisfy a sushi craving!
David Song
Amazing sushi at a slightly more expensive side of things. But everything is done to near perfection - professional staff, fresh fish, great food and good atmosphere.
The place is larger than it looks, there is a large room behind the small front door, and it can definitely get pretty loud.
Be sure to book on OpenTable before heading there as wait time could be up to 2 hours for dinner.
Denise Hezel
First time sushi experience. Sat at the sushi bar - quite entertaining in and of itself!
Tara Cook Harmon
I highly enjoyed the happy hour here.
The food was so good I didn't take any pictures but I'll be back when I visit again.
The Sake Kama (grilled salmon collar) was so good.
I would order any of the dishes again the group ordered.
Edamane
Sake Kama
Tempura Platter
Salmon Skin Roll
Sushi Set A and C
Spicy Tuna roll
Grilled garlic short ribs
yeliz karadayi
Worth it for the happy hour. Without that it is expensive- a nigiri is only one piece which is ridiculous because ni literally translates to two, and the price of one here is more than what I can get two for in other restaurants. As for the menu, there are too many sushi options and all of the ones I've had feel overdone with sauces and flavor i can barely taste the fish. All that said the quality is still pretty good, and again with the happy hour it's definitely worth it.
Kyle Oppermann
I went in just to get a quick drink, decided to get some food as well and holy moly this is so easily my favorite spot for sushi now. Veggie options for days, creative dishes, while delivering STRONG Japanese flavor start to finish. Next stop is going to be a lot more indulgent for sure.
aniley sabi
I have had the best Sushi 🍣 with the best hospitality. Everything from the food to services was very phenomenal. I kid you not, go there and you won’t regret it. I had the Cowboy Crunch and 007. They’re amazing.
D F
Basic sushi spot. Nothing too amazing on the food side. We had a negative experience with our service however. Waited close to 45 minutes before getting drinks or our order taken. Tables around us were being served, but sure how we slipped through the cracks. After the wait I had high hopes for the food. Unfortunately it was pretty standard stuff. Not sure if we'll be returning.
Gregorio Lonato
A really good sushi place, a lot of sake, service is quick, atmosphere is vibrant and food is really good! They have the classics but also a lot of stuff were the add a personal touch. Recommend
Yolanda Morgan
Party of 10 and we spent less than $350 durjng happy hour! Great food and wonderful staff and service! 🍣
Sim Jhutti
Been here a few times now and the freshness and variety of both tuna and salmon sashimi are always on point. A little pricey but you certainly get what you pay for! Appies are similarly delicious, there’s a sake for every taste, and they’ve got enough inventive rolls to make your head spin (definitely try the Belltown Barbie). The only dish we wouldn’t get again is the tuna tataki. I’m used to thinly sliced, delicate pieces but Umi does a different take on it with thick, chewy pieces that seem much more cooked. All in all would highly recommend!
Taylor Hodgson
LOVE THIS PLACE! i come here every month with my boyfriend. all of the dishes are absolutely delicious! highly recommend getting some sashimi, it’s so smooth and refreshing
Munira Girnary
Can’t go wrong with the rolls here. Not cheap. We were 7 of us and each got at least one piece each.
$20 per roll approx. Had our usual - Street-fighter. Tried the Dragonfly mainly because of the ghost pepper - definitely a good one.
Scorpion roll and 008 rolls. Yakiudon with seafood esp good with fat juicy shrimps. October special was the Grilled ika (Japanese squid) had a nice char taste. Endless summer roll at $22. King Crab tower not very towering more like a pancake but oh so good good with chunks of luscious crab.
Service is great - very efficient. They really want you outta there and discourage lingering.
Downside is the usual Seattle issues. Parking in shady places. Navigating hordes of homeless people.
Patrick Lund
The price was a little steep for the amount of food.
Service was decent. Very on to of keeping our water full, but otherwise bet little to remark on.
Gorgeous building. I enjoyed the wood work on the interior.
P W
I thought I was about to write a pleasant review, but as I started... well you'll see.
The sushi was delicious... Seattle....
The staff could've been more friendly. They certainly are when they're out drinking together. The bartender was kind of a d*** to be specific(at Umi, not out drinking). As much as I like most of the staff at this place, one douche can turn away a longtime client. I'll be spending my hard earned money elsewhere and recommending other places to friends for some time after my last experience.
I bet you get a pleasant person helping you 90% of the time, but like I said. Ouch Umi, ouch.
"There's no room for d***heads in the service industry anymore."
-some random guy
Still 4 stars because this place is a staple in Belltown.
Ivi
Best nigiri I've had since I moved out here. The fish is fresh soft and delicious.
Outside doesn't look like much but inside is a fun vibe. I would come back and bring my friends.
Ben Jams
Been going here a few times a year for the past 5 years and it's still pretty decent. Sashimi is still delicious for the area and most of their other food is great quality. It's got a hip vibe to it and it's usually very busy during dinner times. The service is just okay with servers and bussers not being too professional. So many orders were messed up my last time and the busser was really in my face a lot of times. Even during happy hours, you're going to pay a pretty penny but it's not worth it to me. At the price range, I would expect the food to be a little bit better as well as the service to be more on point.
Tldr; hip, yummy, pricey, sloppy.
Marlye Jerva
Some of the best sushi in Seattle. The servers are always so nice no matter how busy they are. Every roll I try is delicious and the fish always tastes so fresh.
Shrenuj Dave
Fantastic food. Fast service. One of my favorite sushi restaurants to visit when I'm in Seattle. Loved the special rolls and the scallops were a standout as well.
Maria Garcia
I went two weeks ago and...I am over the moon in love with this place. Words cannot describe. We got the Japanese omelette sushi, the house sashimi, two glasses of sake, and one other fantastic roll that I forgot the name of. Just divine. 😍
Zachary Romer
Killer happy hour. We showed up at 545 on a Sunday evening and they were able to squeeze us in before a 645 reservation. Got in, got sake and bomb sushi, and got out. Nice decor inside too
Rachit Gupta
Great sushi spot in Belltown. My favorite part about this place was the Sake Cocktails 🍸. We got a couple and they tasted great! You can also get ribs (picture below) which were delicious and well-done.
The ambience was cozy and they are practicing COVID guidelines properly. We didn't have to wait too long to get a table. Definitely coming back!
thomas games
The fish quality here is next level. Happy hour has some good deals.
Jarek Sedlacek
My favorite sushi places in Seattle! Incredibly massive selection of rolls, high-quality fish for sashimi and nigiri, and wonderful drink options.
The ambiance is also great, although it can be fairly loud.
Jesus Christ
Brought my friend here for his 21st birthday. I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I was. I came here about 12 years ago and had one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had in my life. I believe at that time Umi's had an outstanding reputation. I should have known when I walked in and saw all the rideshare orders. I was very excited to impress my friend, as his favorite food is sushi. I spent $300 and don't recall eating anything noteworthy that night. Even the better cuts of fish were unmemorable. What a tragic let down. An overpriced excuse to piggyback off this restaurants original reputation. What happened? You're making me look bad. What a waste of a surprise. I will never return.
M L
Great service and excellent location. If you’re in the Pike Place area, I suggest swinging by. Make sure to make reservations!
I highly recommend any of the special rolls and get the mochi sampler for dessert!
I’ll try more of the sashimi and omakase next time we have dinner without my friend who loves deep fried rolls lol.
Debasmita Basak
Just wow! I’m not a huge sushi fan because never had a really good experience , but this place was mind blowing! We got the BadBoy and Cowboy rolls and the 7 spiced king crab. Each one of the dishes had a unique flavor. BadBoy was spicy, tangy, crunchy whereas Cowboy was creamy and delicious. The King crab was fresh and buttery! The portion sizes were pretty big and the speciality cocktails were good too! Pro tip: try to sit at the garden area. Its so relaxing
Anny Treat
Amazing sushi rolls and miso soup. Made a reservation there on our latest trip to Seattle and it did not disappoint! They had plenty of vegetarian options and the specials were amazing
Wolfgang Schulze
I've had better sushi, but the service is outstanding. Fast and friendly. Asked for extra ginger. Had it 60 seconds later!
No wonder this place is hopping, while Wasabi around the corner is half empty!
Amarachi Nlemigbo
I have been to Umi so many times and I really enjoy each time. I know that it will always be a staple on my list for a great night out for sushi. This time I ordered off the happy hour menu and the sushi was good as always but I know it could be better having been to Umi outside of happy hour. I still enjoyed my rolls and will recommend Umi to anyone.
Dave Garred
Had a bit of work to do on the service but some of the best sushi that I've had in a long time.
Plan that a 7:30 reservation may lead to 8:00 as well as get your drink orders in early and you'll have a great evening.
Susan Russell
Came to Seattle for the weekend and wanted to have sushi while we were in town. After reading the reviews, we made a reservation and it did not disappoint! The menu was large, with lots of delicious sounding options. We had two special rolls followed by the mochi ice cream sampler. We left feeling full and really happy we had made the reservation!
Erika H
Good salmon sushi! The fish quality was great and sushi made well. Waitress was a bit short with me but it was super busy so I wasn't that offended. Some of the food never arrived on time (we were in a bit of a rush though)
I wish their cocktails were not made with sho chiku bai...they could charge a tiny more and use better quality sake.
Pooja Bansal
My most favorite and frequented restaurant in Seattle hands down!
My favorite dish here is the Ladybug roll. That is something I always order. The Haru No Koe is pretty good as well.
John Cawthorne
What a fantastic meal, with younger vibrant clientele. Service was excellent, vibe was fun, and food was YUM. If you can get in, come enjoy some fantastic omakase or sushi to your choice. All good.
Matty O
This place was absolutely dynamite! Every plank that we ordered was totally better than the last. Wonderful environment. If you’re looking for a quiet evening, this is not your place, for everyone enjoying, forgets how loud they can be when they’re having fun. Wonderful experience.
Bella Gold
Nice calm lighting, pretty okay sushi and sashimi. The miso soup was wonderful, I really enjoyed the open setting and found the nature aspect to be quite calming, only wish they would open it up a bit more and have the same nature flow throughout. I must say the service was excellent, especially Sierra she was lovely, very attentive and quick on her feet.
L. H.
While the atmosphere and service would deserve five stars, I am only leaving three. The food was just ok. We ordered the udon, a crnchy ca, spider rolls, yakisoba (chk), veggie rolls, tarantula extreme, and the tempura platter. Others we went with ordered six other rolls and the lobster. I would love to leave five stars if the Udon had more depth of flavor and the rest of the food was more than just average. It is edible food, just not outstanding. The service however, was excellent. They were extremely understanding, polite, patient with our children. I will go back to try other items on the menu and adjust my review if necessary.
Justin Anderson
Classic American sushi restaurant with a long list of specialty rolls, Japanese izikaya, and other classic entree dishes. The rolls are unique and very large with lots of fish. Did not enjoy the O-toro roll which did not have a lot of fish compared to rice ratio. The hamachi Kama was good but should have been slow roasted in the amazing sauce they served it with.
Sav H
The fish tastes fresh but that's too be expected in Seattle. Service was meh. They were nice but nothing exceptional. I enjoyed the pike market roll and salmon nigri. Speed of food was fine considering how busy it was. I wish we could've sat in their patio, it looked like the most interesting room in the place. You can sit at the sushi bar and watch your food get made which is cool. I'd go back if I can sit the patio but otherwise try another spot.
Darren Chan
Superb place for sushi. Fresh and fantastic quality with great execution of the rolls. You will not have a roll with too much rice. Very creative and imaginative roll combinations. Large selection of sake and a large drink menu overall. Happy Hour is a good time to go. However you still get menu items not on the HH menu all the time. I do frequently visit this place and I am never disappointed in my experience. Can accommodate small to very large groups. Service can be slow sometimes but it is because it is always a very very busy restaurant and sushi is hand made and that takes time. Reservations recommended to minimize wait time.
Eugene Louie
Check out happy hour prices!! Amazing value!
Jose J
Great restaurant and very sociable staff. Had great reccomendations from Ryan at the bar regarding highball for my wife and I. The unique sushi rolls were excellent especially the moonraker. The nigiri was so fresh and tasty. Will definitely come back next time I am in Seattle.
Daniel Kearney
I have a new found love of Sake. Great service and food, and thanks for walking usthrough how Sake is made!
Clarke Smith
Excellent sushi rolls in a vibrant space. A colleague and I hit Umi Sake House after a day of training in Seattle and couldn’t have been happier with the food and ambience. The rolls are SUPER-interesting (and the list of rolls is massive) so there’s something for everyone from a traditional Spicy Tuna Roll to a “Dragon Blood Roll”.
We split 3 of their special rolls between us and it was PLENTY of food for 2 - all 3 rolls were delicious and interesting with a mix of traditional sushi and ingredients like bacon.
You could eat here for a month and never have the same roll twice so I’ll be back next time I’m in town to try something new.
Rabia Effendi
Tried this place on a friend’s recommendation. There was a vast sushi menu to choose from. Took the Server’s recommendation to pick this spicy sushi rolls called Moonraker along with a plate of garlic shot ribs. The food was enough for two people. Very quick service. The food was served in minutes. The taste of the rolls was delicious and it was decently priced as well. Loved our experience. Would definitely recommend to all sushi lovers.
Maggie Jackson
Some of the best sushi I've ever had! We sat at the sushi bar which was so cool to be able to watch them while we ate.
Udeeb Shankhadev
Good spot for unique combination of sushi rolls. Lots of sushi roll options to choose from and most of them are really good.
Good selection of sashimi/nigiri as well. The only con is that the actual variety of fish is limited and most of the offering on the menu is a clever combination of selected base raw item. However, kudos to the chef, they are able to churn out good and unique tasting food!
Reservation is recommended if you are planning around dinner time or on weekends.
DONGHYEON NOH
I didn't take picture of Super Suno? Roll. I would like to recommend that one was my favorite between these. I like calamari fried too. It was great. Leach sake was better taste after some times 10min 8min.
Bethany Hanson
I love Umi's. Been going here since I was a teen. The literal best happy hour for sushi in Seattle, and some of the best sushi too!
Todd Fellerman
My favorite sushi place in Seattle. Great location and ambiance. But most importantly a big menu and everything is delicious, well prepared, and fresh. Always come here whenever I visit! 💖
Cher Johnson
The sushi was excellent. The black cod was also very good. Service was great as well. We will definitely be back!
Inna Zakharchenko
The sushi was ok, I think it’s over priced. Not a best sushi I had in Seattle. We order 4 different rolls and wasn’t impressed :-(
K Aerie
Good place for sushi & other Japanese eats. lots of options for rolls, but a lot of rolls taste quite similar, and the textures on the Soggy side. Service is usually pretty fast and attentive. Recommend making reservation on OpenTable, because they get busy during meal times.
Linda Lueck
Food was delicious, and presentation was great for the specialty roll I ordered. However, it seemed like it could've been rolled better as it fell apart easily and I've been using chopsticks since I was a kid. Trendy place, but I went after 9pm on a Friday and got seated right away. Would suggest reservations for busier hours.
borrowamom lets read!
First of all the decorations are... Interesting. When you walk in there's a huge installment above the hostesses and it looks like... A giant tape worm. We all said it looked like a tapeworm at the same time. Food was the reason I gave 5 stars. Service was slow because it was way busy but the food was quality and worth going back again.
Alexandra Urban
Delicious sushi! Pro tip: scan to the *very end* of the menu to slightly more normally priced rolls or else this can easily be extremely expensive. Fun atmosphere, very fresh fish, and friendly waiter. Have gone every time I visit Seattle and look forward to the next time I’m close enough to return here for a meal. In addition to their extensive menu, they also have a significant list of specials so take it all in & order to share if you’re with family/friends - you’ll be glad you stopped in! 🍣
Shreejit Gangadharan
I always a great experience here. They have innovative sushi rolls, and have a good selection of vegetarian rolls and great service.
Christopher Walker
Trendy and delicious sushi place in Belltown. Reservations highly recommended. Fantastic rolls, huge sake list, and excellent cocktails. Prices are good, service is fast, knowledgeable, and friendly. Great place to treat yourself to some good sushi!
Robert Kipa
Great sushi, but a little on the expensive side for what you get on the dinner menu. The happy hour menu is much more reasonable.
I wasn't a fan of the rolls, as probably around 80% of the rolls are in some way spicy. This in my opinion completely defeats the purpose of serving quality fish - your taste buds get seared by the spiciness and you barely taste the fish. My fault for not choosing more wisely, but I expected more subtle heat. Presentation, however, is on point.
The sockeye salmon sushi, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious (almost worth the $6.50 price tag), and servers were attentive and friendly. I would definitely return for happy hour.
Ray Febus
Great happy hour. Think it changed a bit from when I last went so only 4 stars. Crunchy seattle roll used to be better. Still good but times have changed. Other sushi was good. Sake was good. Go for happy hour but maybe not pay full price for other food.
Nawal Atoura
I'm so upset I didn't take photos. But honestly that's how good it was I totally forgot😭
Had: happy hour sashimi plate and salmon collar
Ate at the bar.
Everything is amazing. If you want sake they're very knowledgeable about all the different types. Fish was fresh and amazing.
Seriously no complaints. Would definitely come again. wow wow wow.
Victor Chanceton
Has great scenery here, but the sushi was a little on the something to be desired. I dont taste the 4+ star this place gets. The tempura was nice though. Decent price for what you get though, so eat your fill.
Olivia M
Good sushi with a good happy hour menu! Happy hour is between 4pm and 6pm and after 9pm. The happy hour menu has good sushi and small plate options as well as drinks. The spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls were really good. The soft shell crab in the spider roll was fried a bit too much (it wasn’t soft) so that was a bit disappointing. Overall great ambiance though and nice service with complimentary edamame.
Rishul Bangar
Great place to enjoy the nightlife of Seattle over a weekend especially, they may take to get you a seat but usually you can start off at the bar. The food was delicious, they had a special Cowboy Crunch Sushi in their menu when we visited and I hope they make a it a permanent addition to their menu!
Nikita Patil
Amazing sushi! Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth fish and flavorful toppings. This was my first time eating sushi and I loved it! Would highly recommend for people who want to try sushi but are not sure where to go
Jon Yan
This is a good spot for sashimi and also for the price. Happy hour means a seat at the full service bar which runs around 10 seats across but also an additional five seats in a tight girder. That time typically runs longer for these seats....actual tables for happy hour end quicker
They also have super late menu items only after around 10pm for cheap...when cheap it's around $10 for some type of hot plate
Don't know about the regular menu.
Place was packed with an hour wait on a Saturday night.
We went on a Sunday as well
J W
Amazing sushi and sashimi! Everything is fresh and their rolls are spectacular! It's umani in your mouth! The server had some great suggestions and we loved everything! Plus they're open late!
Vishal Shah
Really amazing food. The drinks are really great. Came here on a friend's recommendation and this place is totally worth it. Should definitely try their cocktail called girl with a gun if you are a mezcal lover. I also tried their scorpion roll and sake kama and both were delicious. Enjoyed every bit of the food.
Alex Nguyen
After looking for the most reviewed sushi spots in Seattle I came upon this spot! There was no wait for dinner on a Tuesday for a party of 4. The place was large and very nice looking. I enjoyed the service. The happy hour menu was amazing and definitely made me full surprisingly with 2 rolls and their complimentary edamame. I ordered the bad boy roll and the cali crunch roll which tasted almost the same. I enjoyed both though, they were good portioned and had enormous amount of flavor, they use real crab! I would definitely come back!
Rebecca Leigh
Loovveeeee Umi! Beautiful restaurant, fresh sushi, always great service and drinks! They have mezcal which makes me happy. It’s an affordable omakase experience too if you’re in the mood for chefs choice. It’s one of my fav sushi spots
Vivian Liang
Extremely spacious Japanese restaurant on 1st open late, until 2 AM on most nights. I love the decor and atmosphere. There will be a wait on most nights. I'd recommend making reservations for parties larger than 4.
My favorite on their menu is the Nabeyaki Udon which is a bowl of everything you would wish for on a cold night. It has clams, king crab, kamaboko, egg, shrimp tempura, and lots of veggies.
Great drink/cocktail menu as well!!
Betsy Finn
Good sushi and sashimi. Was very crowded and busy when we went. We ordered chef's choice sashimi and sushi trays. Both were very good. Hot sake also. Sat at the bar as we walked in without a reservation on a weekend (that appeared to be prom night too).
Wenting Liu
First time trying this place. It's super busy so I'd def recommend reserving a table in advance. Scallop on that days special menu was really good. Absolutely loved the fried tofu. Rolls were fine and I didn't really like the Pomegranate lemonade. Short rib beef was too sweet and a bit over roasted/cooked
Stefani Moore
Great food! Definitely recommend this place. The demon slayer roll with blue fin tune was awesome.
Michele Pollitt
Great food and the staff was friendly and super efficient 😊 We arrived during happy hour and we were able to sample a lot of different options...
because the prices were low for the menu items listed. I would definitely recommend. …
Jessica Krucina
Umi is one of my favorite sushi places in town. They have a great happy hour menu with both food and beverages. I absolutely love the sashimi set, chirashi bowl, and hot sake.
Katerina Luchistaya
Just love that place. I tried a few kinds of rolls and seaweed salad and liked everything. Nice hot sake too.
Adam
Zzzayumm this place is on point!!! 🍣 Everything our waitress recommended was so tasty and so fresh once it hit my palette 🎨 you can really taste all the different flavors once the food hits your mouth! This food is really made with care and top skill 😋 just see the pics, they won’t disappoint! I’m not goin got pretend like I knew what kind of fish I was eating 🎣 🤣
Tareq Ismail
My fav sushi place of all time. Amazing rolls. The Mona Lisa is the best one but there are so many that are good. Staff usually friendly but can be rude at times if it's really busy.
Michael S
Great place! Line and waiting time if you do not make reservations ahead. Staff is great. Sushi is amazing and portions are very generous. I wish I had saved room for dessert because they looked absolutely amazing! Two people. 5 rolls, apps, a few drinks and tip about $200. Soooo worth it!
Alex Aydin
Excellent sushi. Every item we ordered was super fresh and delicious. Very friendly staff and excellent service .
Mudmie Chuthamsatid
Umi offers yummy rolls and sushi although I find the food to be more American fusion than authentic Japanese. They have a huge selection of sushi, rolls and other Japanese food. I have a very hard time trying to choose which roll I should go for. The price is a little bit more expensive than some other place, but the food there is great. They also give you free Edamame!
Lyndell Skews
This was a busy hopping place when we went. I have to say probably some of the best Japanese I've ever had, anywhere. No wonder why it was so busy. We had reservations but there was a bit of a lineup when we left. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that anything you order off this menu will be amazing. Try their specialty rolls. Large servings equals great value with exceptional quality. Fresh ingredients. Excellent service.
Brendon Mead
The atmosphere was to die for. Everything tasted so fresh! The matcha tiramisu was so delicious it shouldn't even exist!!
Ankit Jain
Food : 5/5
Ambience : 4/5
Cost : $$
Service : 3/5
Best Sushi place for vegetarian in Seattle downtown. Ordered Ladybug vegetable sushi & spicy tofu. Great place for friends and couples.
Jeremy Jones
Recommended by locals for a reason. This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere with excellent staff. The simple sushi was well executed and not overwrought. They use a good rice in the rolls and ingredients were all good or great. Fresh menu was excellent. The vegetables were amazing. This is great for the price, especially compared to other nearby but very expensive options.
Samone
This place deserves all the hype. Amazing sushi, fantastic service, and the sashimi tasted like it came right out of the ocean. I could eat there every day
Jim Duehr
Honestly the best sushi I have ever had. The Bad boy roll melts in your mouth like nothing else. The cocktails are good, but also try the mocktails! The mango sprite is just excellent. Should be made commercially!
GM
The food is absolutely perfect. The sushi is very fresh. The only reason I am leaving 4 instead of 5 stars is the service. This is the first time I ever felt rushed at a restaurant. From the order being taken by the waitress to the cleanup once we were done eating. Overall the place is very pleasant, and clean. The food is amazing and the sake selection is great.
Amelia Capilongo
Amazing sushi. So fresh! A large sake menu. You will need a reservation

The food was really good. The place was clean and the staff was super professional and nice. My boyfriend and I sat ate the sushi bar and had the opportunity to interact and receive great recommendations from one of the best sushi chefs (Arci).
Beatrice Wong
Hip sushi and sake bar / restaurant, price on the premium end. Sushi is of better quality than hot food (the cod missing its texture; the fried chicken too thickly battered). Interesting (non conventional) westernised style sushi rolls.
Scott Uehlein
Amazing. Fresh, expertly prepared and great service. The mochi is a must!
Ginger Hall
This is the best sushi place we have ever been to, hands down. Everything we got was amazing, the ladybug roll and the ultimate dragon are out of this world!! The staff is super attentive and nice, the only downside is that it is a bit noisy inside.
Christopher P.
This is the best sushi that I have had, the food is a bit on the pricey side but everything is with satisfaction. The waiter was great, patience, fast and glad to explain to us the dish on the menus. It was very busy and the only seating they had is at the bar. The place is lively and calming, great experience overall. We definitely would come again if we have the chance.
Annie Arthur Lightbody
Wonderful! The Knockout roll was the best inventive roll I've ever had. The sashimi was decent but nothing to write home about, not well cut or worked. They have a wonderful sake selection and the flight tasting was a good value. The complimentary house edemame was pretty tired and overcooked. Friendly and informed staff. At it's busiest I could still have an actual conversation without shouting, which was a pleasant surprise. If it's packed ask to sit at the cocktail bar!
Danielle Sword
Food came out all at once and super quick but took forever to close out. Sushi was all great especially crab tower and salmon sashimi. Everything else was good except the tuna tartare 7spice thing - wouldn’t order that one.
Two Fat Meatballs
Great sushi, my only complaint is the rolls stick to the plate, they sometimes fall apart when you try to pick one up. Can get a little noisy. Surprisingly the dessert is really good. Edamame is included and brought to the table when you first sit down, I always enjoy instant gratification.
Yoshio Hasegawa
I came to Umi Sake House for a look at the happy hour and was pleased with the options they had. Definitely indulge in your cravings on the rolls and nigiri sets they offer for a good deal.
The sushi was fairly good! I had a nigiri set but the rolls look delicious as well.
Ivan Blanco
Umi is, hands down, one of the best sushi joints in Seattle. The fish is as fresh as you're gonna find in the Pacific Northwest, the atmosphere is alive and hip, and the portions are very generous. Come hungry, leave happy, and enjoy.
Steven Tuttle
Great happy hour! Also very good atmosphere. We got sashimi plate, some rolls, salmon collar, and the spicy ginger chicken. All were awesome. We would return!
A G
Wonderful evening, amazing selection of food and cocktails.
Jennifer Narimatsu
We got the Miso and Karaage to go since we were running to catch a boat. Their food was delicious. We will definitely be back to dine-in next time. It had a nice atmosphere from what we could tell for the lobby and they were quite busy so you know its good. I can't wait to try their sake collection.
N Dani
Food taste was good. Sushi was good. I ordered the Sake kama salmon as well that has bones in which is fine but I didn't expect fish scales. Highly inappropriate from food safety stand point. Also happy hours tend to get crowded here. It's not a quiet place as such. Wayy to loud for my taste. Get takeout sushi. Everything else is ok.
Philip Lim
Visiting Seattle and wanted some sushi, wanted to try this place because it was in a great location just minute from the pier. The sushi was great, ambience of the place was perfect for our date night. The waiting staff and servers were extremely courteous, and attentive which is always great in a restaurant. However the front end staff(greeters, host) had a sense of entitlement, and didn’t rub off a good vibe, probably hated their job?
Anyway, all in all a good place to dine and a great location to explore the pier or pike place after your meal.
Make sure to make reservations early as this place does fill up.
Craig Bullard-Berent
Some of the best sashimi I've had outside of Tokyo. The knockout roll is balanced with sweet and hear. The yellowtail is fantastic. Outside of the sashimi, the short ribs are great along with the unagi. You can't really go wrong with anything. This paired with a happy hour menu that goes longer than 6, this place is pretty great.
Siri Raavi
One of the best sushi’s I have ever had. Their happy hour options are great. Along with sushi, I also love their spicy tomato tofu.😋The restaurant might not look great from the outside but trust me and go inside and try. I’m sure you will love their sushi!! It would be nice if they could have their Veg sushi on the happy hour too.
Afreen Azad
You know it’s good when people don’t have patience to wait while you take photos, so all your photos have half eaten plates! I am a vegetarian, and absolutely love their selection of vegetarian sushi. You need to try their Crunchy Seattle (vegetarian version), Lady Bug and Green Decadence!
Patrick “bravo2wo” Higaki
I now know what all the hype is about... Umi crafts some of the best Sushi I've had in Seattle and the atmosphere is excellent. I was expecting the bill for two to be well over $150 but was pleasantly surprised when it came in under $100.
Katie Dinh
I came here for my birthday dinner and everyone there was SO nice. we went during happy hour and got a ton of food and drinks and it wasn’t that bad of a price. they even surprised me with a desert! i can’t recommend them enough. thank you SO MUCH Umi for making my birthday dinner such a great experience! I will definitely be back 🤍🤍 …
Angela Christman
Best sushi I've had in my life. Great service, amazing drinks, and the decor is absolutely gorgeous. This was where I had my first date with my boyfriend and we went here again for his birthday/anniversary years later, and he proposed! Very romantic setting, great for an elegant night out.
Brent Mallett
This restaurant was absolutely beautiful. Service was great and all staff were very friendly. We sat at the bar and the bartender did an excellent job recommending menu items. The happy hour was very impressive given the high quality of food produced. Prices are a bit high but I strongly believe the value is there. I'd definitely go back.
Anya Gessesse
This place is very cute and has a very nice atmosphere but the quality was very meh. I could taste that the nori was old bc it was kinda chewy. At lot of the rolls were being saved by sauce and sugar. Overall I will be searching for another sushi place but maybe it was just the happy hour rolls that were poorer quality?
Lucy Casteel
Had such an amazing experience dining here! After 9pm they have a late night happy hour menu which was sweet! The waiter was able to give great recommendations on which rolls to order and the atmosphere was great and included lit hip hop and r&b throwbacks.
Dr. med. Franz Nachbar
Great experience. Best japanese kitchen we had ever in the States ! Tuna, Yellowtail, eel, crab, outstanding quality, and we never ate Ginger like this, whow.
Thuy Tran
Such fresh, high fish quality! Sushi was meh tho
Sharwari Phadnis
We had ordered green decedance and ladybug sushi rolls and ended our dinner with some amazing mochi. You can give a try to this place if you're in downtown Seattle.
Stephanie Johnson
Best sushi I have ever had and very friendly wait staff. Quick and gave notice when happy hour was ending
Beibin Li
Great food. This place has both traditional and Americanized Japanese food.
Price is very nice at happy hour.
Joseph K
Umi Sake House is my go to spot for happy hour sushi and drink. It is probably the best deal that you can find for its great quality in the city.
Sangita Bist
This place is amazing for sushi . They have variety of rolls and food was fresh .
I tried calamari salad, sashimi, crunchy Cali roll ( ordered twice ) , Seattle roll and sake
Greg Pp
The absolute best sushi I've ever enjoyed! Service was amazing and food was over the top. Had 3 rolls and they were massive. Will definitely be back here everytime I go to Seattle! We had the 009 roll which had the king white salmon on top and with lime and wow wow wow. The flavors was out of this world. Also had two of the specials called ladybyg and that was even better than 009. My vegetarian wife was very happy hence the 2nd ladybug roll being ordered. Will be back and will recommend to anyone going to Seattle! I only wished it was closer to home!
Charlie Wickham
Ate here multiple times and every time a treat. Fresh, fresh, fresh... Great sake selection and wait staff very knowledgeable about, we'll, everything.
Martin Maggio
Fantastic. Great sushi and service! Highly recommend.
Francis Ricci
Fantastic happy hour specials from 4-6. Great presentation and flavors, awesome value. Highly recommend!
David Yang
The sushi wasn't the best but it was a fun place to go later at night for some sake drinks and late night bites after dinner. Service was very quick
Y M
Pretty good food and service, happy hour deals were great.
Galyna Velma
Great place - the range of fresh fish is impressive, the workers love their work and it is felt, so I want to come here again👍🥰 …
Chris Wall
Great food, sushi ordered 4 rolls and 4 drinks. Seats were close at bar, but it was a nice experience
Lan Huang
Came in for happy hour the price and service was great. Reason for the 3 star is because the sushi was only mediocre.
Ryan R
Went here on a Sunday night for Happy Hour. The prices were good and the sushi was also good. I would recommend getting the yellowtail collar. It was the best dish we had.
J-M F
Happy hour. Best way to go
Brian Wu
Love the $2 Happy Hour oyster shot. So yummy. The food was great. Will definitely go back there again when I visit Seattle in the future.
Judy Dee
Best happy hour ever. The sushi is delicious! Grab a sake and get going, what are you waiting for?
Cullan Paridon
Great atmosphere and even better food. I have never enjoyed sushi as much as this place
Christopher Blodgett
Okay place, definitely over rated. Starting to get an old Japanese dive bar feel. Prices are high and the food is just okay and not unique.
Gunnar Andersen
The best vegan sushi experience I've ever had in my entire life and I was also sober the whole time
Brenna Belletti
This is one of my favorite sushi places. Great vibe inside of the restaurant and the quality of sushi is amazing. Don’t forget to pair with some sake!
Derek Ratliff
Visiting for work from the Midwest and desperately wanting as much fresh fish as possible. This was hands down the freshest sushi I've ever had. Tried 3 different rolls and a sampler, none of which disappointed. I will definitely return on my next visit in a few months and hopefully get to compare it with some of the others in town
Dana Fowler
The best sushi and sake house in the Pacific Northwest! I hadn't been to Umi since before the Pandemic and it was so lovely to experience again. Their quality and variety has not declined in any way. It was wonderful to be back!!!
Dikshit Goel
We had Small bottle of “Sayuri Nagori” Sake’ and it was delightful with Tofu and sushi rolls
Stan Finkelshtein
Very fresh, good size portion, super tasty everything!
Definitely worth a visit if you are downtown!
Jason Johnson
Great place to go, especially to talk. They fill up quite quickly, so go early so you can get some of the best seats near the indoor garden.
Chris F
While a tad pricy, the food here was pretty legit. The portions on their rolls was surprisingly large so we were quite pleased with that. I'm not sure if this place necessarily stands head and shoulder above the rest yet as I've only begun to scratch the surface of what Seattle has to offer, but I'm quite certain this is above average.
Michael Kintscher
The chefs were able to put together a roll for me that was free of the top 9 allergens. I never thought I would be able to eat sushi but this was fantastic! The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff was very friendly.
Hans Wolfgang Schulze
Somewhat expensive, but so are many places these days. Service good but slow, and staff isn't looking around for people waving for attention.
FM
The $80 Omakase was disappointing. No chef nor waitress introduction, nor menu description of what was on the plate. Two of the fish were unfit for sashimi in my opinion, one other lacks the fresh and firm quality, there were no special delightful characteristics to this plate. It seems their specialty rolls and other dishes were better priced and prepared as observed of what others around us were enjoying, very impressive displays. This is definitely a happening place, tons of vibrant beautiful young people having a good time, drinks were flowing. The Manhattan we had was sub-par. For jovial group gathering, this is a good choice, but for Omakase appreciation, not so good
Kelsey Burns
Such a great spot... definitely feels like a hidden gem. I can’t wait to come back!
Dorin Cindea
Uni was amazing. The sashimi selection, was the best sashimi I have ever had.
Sanjana Shetty
I came here for the first time after I saw a friend post and raved about it on her Instagram story. My boyfriend (who was eating sushi for the first time) and I got the Hotter than Hell specialty roll, lychee sake, elderflower sake and the green tea dessert and we loved each and everything we ordered. The sushi was spicy and super flavorful. The drinks were, well they did not disappoint and the green tea tiramisu was not overpowering. Overal, just the perfect dinner.
Nita Luiz
This review is long overdue because I love this place! The food, ambience and drinks are all a win. I would come here a lot more often if the sushi here wasn't so Expensive and if the wait times weren't so long. (which is why I have reduced a star)
My favorite rolls are the cowboy crunch, ladybug and sweet inferno.
In drinks the Lychee sake and Mango sake are total wins!
A meal can easily cost you 30 to 35 dollars per person here (minimum). This place is borderline between a 2 dollar and 3 dollar yelp rating.
It's worth a splurge once in a while though.
Dev Desai
Excellent vegetarian options - haven’t had better veggie sushi! Loved ladybug and green decadence! Garlic tofu was exquisite! I recommend this to all first time sushi eaters :)
Juan Bravo (JBvideos)
Excellent sushi, sake and customer service!. 100/10
Melissa Hendrian
Came here for the happy hour. Was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary plate of edamame. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious and a great value.
Casey Caster
They sat our large group, 15 mins after our reservation time, in the private room. A very nice hardwood floor room with a hole in the floor with a table over it. Pillows to sit on. Great room, it was weird there were glass walls, but they acted as a sound barrier. The menu had a very large selection of spicy and cream cheese roles. This is always disappointing to see, and stikes me as poor menu planning. It would have been nice to see more variety given the large number of roles listed. (2 1/2 pages) The vegan in our group LOVED their vegan roles. We ordered the large sashimi boat. Huge slab of wood with a massive amount of chef chosen delights. slab was 6in x 3ft & full of fish. They were beautifully laid out, but it had taken them long enough to make the 3 large planks and the sushi had started to warm. The sake selection was wide and we enjoyed them. We also ordered the udon and chicken. Excellent! Highly recommend that dish. Gyoso was ok and standard. Our server was attentive, but managing more than a fair share of tables so we didn't see her much even when we were looking for her. Given the glass walls, you can imagine this was frustrating. The value/ pricing to the volume of food was good, and I would have paid a little more for better quality overall. I'm giving it a 3. I probably won't go back, as the experience was just ok for all the points noted. This makes me a bit sad for the owners as I can't be the only one and it would not be hard to address the issues noted and bring up the value.
Lauren Sedlar
Awesome happy hour specials. Cozy atmosphere. The Choya Plum Wine is a delicious, sweet white wine.
Tim Bartz
Sushi was great. Love that they have Asahi on tap, few Japanese or sushi restaurants do. Chicken karaage was juicy.
Elio Galo
I've been in Chicago for 3 months and the one thing i miss is UMI. I will fly back just to eat at this wonderful restaurant.
April L
The quality of the dishes are under expectations. The deco and vibe is nice. Happy hour meal is not that expensive, but I would expect higher quality of sushi and sashimi.
George Junca
Great sushi and somewhat reasonable prices. Super fast getting food out too
John F.
very nice place ! kind staff ! very good sushi !
Jordan Maughan
Absolutely love this place. A Seattle sushi staple and the best sushi for the price in the city! Happy hour is the best. Suggestions: Sushi set A, Dragonfly roll, bad boy roll
Madison Fichtner
The happy hour special was totally worth it. Great deals on nigiri and rolls.
Frank Flentye
Definitely need to stop into this well decorated, awesome atmosphere. Food was good as well as the service!
Samantha
Excellent happy hour menu with fresh sushi and great drink specials. The service was wonderful too!
Karen Young
It has James Bond themed sushi rolls. Good sake selection and a happy hour that will make most very happy. Recommend the Happy hour Hamachi Kama (yellowtail collar), the miso is flavourful and the tempura. On the main menu becareful of the ghost chilli and jalapeños rolls they are hot ... like I am on fire!
Robert Freiberg
They did a great job. My food was on time and prepaid well. Nice dinner.
Megan Maier
The sushi was perfect and the location had a clean, sophisticated ambiance. Service was top notch too.
Brandon Burns
Delicious sushi
Split the plates with someone and try more!
Jawnuh Ione
Very busy. Delicious food served family style so it's brought to you as it's ready! Friendly service Ann's excellent drink menu with tons of sake! Over 40 varieties of sake!
M VDW
Best sushi this far in Greater Seattle area! Amazing happy hour, great service and great food.
Blaine Elkins
I love the sushi here and the service is awesome. I recommend trying them out whenever you're in the area.
Michelle Nygard
We loved this place. One of the best sushi places to eat.
Fiona Garrett
If you enjoy rolls or want rolls come here. They're really good and they have a huge variety of different ones. The wait time is kinda a bummer so I recccomend making a reservation to avoid the hassle of that.
Zachary Watson
Bigger than I expected when I first came in. Sushi was great and the whole atmosphere was very nice.
Kasey Kerlick
Honestly everything was awesome! But I was expecting it to be out of this world good. Based on the decor and the menu options I really thought it was going to be one of the best sushi places I have ever been to, but it is just a great sushi restaurant. Get the Hamachi Kama and go for more of the hot plates and nigiri. Get one specialty roll to cover your bases.
Nikhil Jadhav
This place has great ambience and amazing hosts. I enjoyed the happy hour appetizers and the sushi was ok.
B. Houston
Best Happy Hour in town. Get the bad boy roll you won’t be disappointed.
Noah
It was so scrumptious So scrumdiddlyumptious It took me to another world and back my mom in 1969 gave birth to me and after I came out the emergency room I ran right here waiting for the place to be built and indulged in eating this delicious meal I ordered squid testicle sushi and topped off with salmon ball’s when I eat them it was like shooting into space on a giant Elon Musk rocket
Ziqi Wang
Roll is good. Matcha tiramisu is quite dry and not recommended.
Van Gutierrez
Had a good time, waitress really knew her sake. A bit pricey but i believe thats the norm with sushi.
Judith Tran
Friendly and fast service. Got the toro & salmon sashimi (pieces were large portions) black cod and seafood gyoza. Filling as is, would come back again
Emily Carey
Absolutely amazing ambiance and sushi. I will absolutely go again when next in Seattle.
Noor Kiswani
Great happy hour and food is fresh and on point !
Priya Prabhakar
Really swanky cute spot - great for date night. Tons of vegetarian options! Got the spicy tomato tofu and the green decadence roll which were both delicious. Added tofu to my roll. The mochi plate was nice but the dinner items stole the show for us.
Shayne Leong
Fantastic Japanese restaurant with great dishes including authentic sushi, chirashi, tempura, and udon (and I'm usually picky about authentic Japanese food). The nabeyaki udon is a winner.
Abby Walkush
My fiancé and I were visiting Seattle for a short weekend, and we wanted a fun dinner to celebrate our recent engagement. So happy we found this spot!! Great ambience, service, and delicious/fresh sushi! If we return to the area, we will definitely be back!!!
Adam Gilfix
Delicious, sizable portions on the specialty rolls complement above-average standard rolls in a vibrant atmosphere.
Saurabh Shankar
I'm vegetarian and I absolutely love this place.
Try their shishito yaki, yakisoba, vegetable sushi sampler. For drinks try their lychee cooler.
Fred Jen
Fresh sushi and large selection of sakes. Good deal on sake tasting menu.
Gabe Lapingcao
Amazing service and wonderful food! The sushi was wonderful, we ordered so much that we were almost full, and despite a small mess up in our order, we were compensated well with our meals.
Laura Alexandra
The service was great! They have a great happy hour and they give you a nice side.
Aubrey Mellul
3-4 stars, not at all worth the hype or price if you know what good sushi is.
Go for happy hour. The salmon and yellowtail sashimi were good. The sake was great and well priced. The short ribs were mostly bone pieces with fat and very little meat but the couple that had some meat on them were great. The tofu was good too.
Don’t bother with the Omakase, it was terribly disappointing - came out all on one plate, the server wasn’t even sure what each fish was, two of the options were so fishy I wanted to spit them out, two were so chewy they had to be swallowed whole, the rest were basic.
The black cod was very good though it said served with vegetables and it came with a salad instead.
The matcha tiramisu for dessert was a weak tiramisu but the matcha mousse on top was worth it and delicious I could have eaten a bowl of just that with strawberries.
Our reservation stated it was for a birthday but there was zero acknowledgment of it.
Server was sweet and helpful and the bus staff was very on it always filling water and cleaning plates.
Ben Holtzendorff
We found this great place based on a recommendation from a friend. This place has amazing sushi and a very good selection of sake(surprise! lol). The service was very good and the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. They also were terrific with helping with other servers tables as well as if they were theirs. We will definitely be back for some of this great experience. They were busy, as expected and I would recommend a reservation to stream-line your experience.
K B
Hadn't been in years, but when my friend from DC was visiting I suggested Umi. The service was pretty terrible (had to ask for everything, they brought us food and no utensils, had to ask the bartender for things, etc) and we ordered the calamari but didn't eat it because it was so sweet. Sushi is still good, but I don't know if I'd return.
Christine Doan
Vibrant sushi & sake house with a distinct menu that includes vegetarian options. Their sashimi is grade A quality & always fresh. As for specialty rolls, the Tropical Paradise is a must-try. Very interesting flavour combo topped with a semi-sweet blueberry glaze. For those looking to have comforting noodle soup, the Nabeyaki udon is an excellent choice, esp if you love seafood. Don't forget to try the oyster shooters & sake! Always a pleasure to dine here. Definitely make reservations, esp during dinner hours.
Kooyah ParoDimpz
I ordered the Tarantula Roll and Crunchy Cowboy special rolls, both were so good just a little to much rice but tasted good. The happy hour ribs was delicious. Great food for the price.
Dan Lewis
Cool spot with a nice interior and not a crowded floor plan, which is refreshing for a sushi hot spot. Good selection on rolls and beverages. The sushi rice and cuts of fish were just average for the U.S., however, and I've had better even in small towns. Expected a lot more being right next to the fish market. Service was decent.
Eboni Bright
The BAD BOY ROLL! 🙌🏿 Read below for a more detailed review.
We stumbled across Umi after leaving an event. We walked in a little after 11:00 pm, were warmly greeted, and were seated quickly, even with a fairly packed house.
The atmosphere is quaint and intimate. Really cute place for date night or just hanging with friends. I highly recommend having a glass of Choya plum wine while waiting for your food.
Now, if you're questioning what to order, you cannot go wrong with the BAD BOY ROLL! We tried a few other rolls, which were very good BUT the BBR was absolutely delicious. I hate I did not get a picture to share a glimpse of its greatness, but trust me on this one.
And do not forget the Happy Hour menu!
Johnny L.
More Fusion style. Was expecting more traditional sushi but it's fusion roles with sauces. Ordered chirashi and fish quality is good. Sake - great selection.
Ryan Sims
Great place and late night! Crystal is amazing if you get a chance to have her for the night!
Delicious food and a good atmosphere. The sushi is delicious and one of the better places in Seattle 😎 …
Fady Masoud
We’ve come here for years. Best sushi in Seattle. Oyster shots are so fresh and yummy. Happy hour has everything you would want. Today was special, thanks to our exceptional and genuinely friendly server Angie. Hope we have her on our table again.
Andrew Phillips
Phenomenal Chrisashi. Mackerel, scallops, salmon roe, salmon and 2 types tuna all amazing. Fish is the star of the show and extremely high quality! One of best sushi experience I’ve ever had. Great ambiance too very unique
Andrew Ricker
I went on my first date with my now wife here. Would recommend!
Kevin McGowan
Friday night late solo dinner. Really Great Food from the kitchen and the bar service from Ian was friendly, helpful and engaging. I’d suggest requesting a seat away from the service bar area, as the noise from that area was disturbing. Ruined an otherwise fantastic meal.
Lorena Reynosa
GREAT location and great menu that accommodates many different diets. Our group had traditional eaters, vegans, vegetarians, gluten free eaters and so forth. We alllllll feasted and everyone that helped us from the host to our server were very knowledgeable about the menu and was and was not vegan. I am looking forward to going back.
Alisha Holdbrook
Always a great time at Umi. Andy at the bar is attentive and just the right amount of friendly, without being overbearing. The sushi is out of this world .
K. Ocean (King)
👌 Wow its super low key and not flashy and just chill, haven't sat at the sushi bar yet. …
Aparna Gangwar
Love the food and drinks, especially bad boy roll!
Mira Etingof
Visiting for Seattle for the first time and decided to get sushi. Umi did not disappoint! Food was fantastic and so were the drinks. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were all very friendly and fun to talk to. One of them even gave us personalized recommendations on where to go in the area. 10/10 would recommend!
Abby Moulton
Umi Sake was recommended to us by a local as a must-have dinner spot while visiting Seattle. The sushi list is quite long but each roll we got was outstanding and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The Sake of course was also great. Great spot for local catches delicately rolled into great sushi.
Joe Sosa
Deceiving roomy location on inside. Large menu options. Certainly went with a spicy roll which does nicely for me and mine. Oh, and a happy hour menu? Will be back
Monirul Hawke
Best happy hour sushi in Seattle. Great for everything else, too!
Travis Johnson
The sushi is the bomb and we ate more than we should have! Didn't have a bad bite this entire meal!
Jason Adrian
Great sushi! Not just your typical traditional nigiri, but also many, many creative rolls! The rolls are certainly my favorite.
Yunong Xiao
Above average sushi place. Omakase is not bad if you’re a purist. If you like rolls (it’s not sushi) this place is for you
Ismail Sebe
The sushi was awesome. Great ambiance. Friendly staff.
Kaitlyn Juen
Everything was amazing including the service. Recommend the Legend of the Rolls specialty roll
Isabelle Gagnon
Great place for sushi in Seattle. Plates are huge, better to know before ordering.
Hey Keith Wells
We all ordered the sashimi at happy hour and it was excellent. They had a good happy hour drinks menu and we enjoyed those too. The chicken with ginger was good too! Good service and nice, romantic atmosphere. We'd go back.
Justin Peter Diego
Sushi was great!! The menu has healthy choices too and the servings are large.
Mouni Reddy
Good happy hour with a selection of rolls, sashimi and apps. I got the crunchy Cali roll and boy roll. Good stuff.
Dom Weldon
Pretty cool sushi spot in Belltown. Reservations were required and we were told we would only have our table for a bit but the restaurant was half empty the entirety of our visit. The normal sushi was ok but the special selection was pretty tasty, especially the Moonraker. Will definitely return.
Elyse
Excellent happy hour and delicious sushi, great ambience!
Kate Block
Get the pink lady!! It's amazing. I went here five or six years ago and had this roll. It was so good I had to come back and get the same thing years later. Great ambiance as well.
Michael Harburn
Have made a few visits and the food never disappoints. Make sure to make a reservation or you may need to wait for a table. Service is friendly and quick. Hit the Happy Hours to save a bit of cash.
Bronson Cole
This place is absolutely amazing with great food and even better sake. Their cocktails are also definitely worth the price. The food there is extremely delicious as well from the sushi to the hit food and the tofu. I will definitely be returning to this wonderful place as soon as possible.
Jose Andres Araya
Food was extremely good, with lots of great options. It can get expensive if you eat a lot.
Adeola
A lot of sushi to share and the drinks are really good! I’d recommend the cowboy crunch, Goldilocks and the short ribs (pictured)
Jacquelyn Swaoger
They were friendly and accommodating to our party when we happened to be about 20 minutes late for our reservation. They give you free edamame as a starter which was nice. The drinks we got were strong while still tasting delicious. We got the beet salad, multiple sushi rolls, calamari, lobster tempura, and a steak (I think filet mignon, but I can’t remember). Everything was delicious, but we didn’t care for the sweet sauce on the lobster tempura. Staff were very friendly!
Great Douglas
The food and ambience was good. Service was great but some tables are far too close together makes conversation awkward because you’re practically sitting with other people. I would hesitate coming back only for that reason if that doesn’t bother you you will probably enjoy it.
MIchelle Armer Price
We started going here about a year or two ago and now we won’t go anywhere else again. Their happy hour prices are amazing and they have a salmon sashimi that will melt in your mouth. The ambiance/greenery inside is nice too!
Ryan Lewitt
Phenomenal service and great happy hour pricing
Anonymous
Walked to this place and was pleasantly surprised by the interior. The sofa setup is comfortable for sitting but not conducive to eating. Either way the sushi was great. We ordered 3 different rolls and they were all very good. I highly recommend the cowboy crunch roll. The waiters were very nice and checked up on us regularly.
Maria Luisa
Really good restaurant, the food is very good and the price is very good
Azam Farooqui
Good sushi, ordered take out but it didn’t come with Soy sauce, overall very good. Definitely recommend.
kandhar kurhade
A large selection of sake and probably a great place for a sake lover. The sushi was awesome. I wouldn’t suggest the vegetarian sushi platter instead for vegetarians go with the ginger tofu.
Tad Bixby
4 to 6 pm happy hour means we might just move in, at least for two hours every day. Maybe someday soon I'll understand why paying with 'points is good.' Partner and I burned through $78 of happy hour sushi. ♥️✌️🐠💦😅
Peter W
Looks small from the street but huge inside. Broad range of saké by glass but food a bit hit-and-miss.
Chloe
Amazing food. Love their creative rolls. Favorite sushi place in Seattle.
Chel C
Elisa is the bestttttt. Promote this woman. She killed it !!! Food was really really good. I'd recommend this spot to everyone. The sushi rolls are so fun and different. The lychee martini is tasty. Doesn't taste syrupy. Pretty in pink roll and the black code is fantastic. Service is impeccable.
Andrea Tambalotti
Truly excellent sushi in a nice space. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Todd Shibata
Must come for Happy Hour. They have a great selection of food and drinks.

Had an excellent happy hour dinner. Everything was delicious. I had the Seattle roll, salmon collar, and salmon sashimi. My partner had the Miso, spicy tuna roll, and one of the sushi combos. Couldn't have asked for better. If you don't get the grilled salmon collar you're missing out. It gets absolutely crazy busy here so you will want to make reservations. And if a packed room is not your thing, might not be the ideal spot for you. The food came out lightning fast. I'll definitely back for a second round.

deliciously fresh sushi. been 4 times, and the 4th visit was on my birthday. they were especially busy that evening. we waited 30 minutes for a bottle of Sake, which was a bit frustrating considering the occasion and order. the food was good as always. glasses for water were brought out wet which was a bit unappealing. great evening overall, regardless of the poor initial service.

We visited this place twice in our 3 day trip to Seattle, it's that good! First time just for a couple cocktails and the second time for a full meal with appetizers.
The first time I tried the cocktail with coconut milk (can't recall the name..) and my wife got the cucumber infused sake. Both were incredible. Additionally they gave us Edamame as soon as we sat down saying it is their version of chips and salsa - Free.
The second trip we each got miso soup and it was exactly what I expect from that tasty treat AND piping 🔥. We got the filet mignon appetizer which was fantastic and came with a surprising salad. I really enjoyed the dressing. We then got three sushi rolls - the vegetarian, the butterfly something rather and one other roll. All super fresh and very well made. 11 pieces per roll! Love it 💕

We enjoyed our dine in experience at Umi Sake. The environment is very casual and relaxed. Our reservations were a little late, but we were able to make it to the second happy hour at 10pm. The only downside is all the popular dishes (toro, monkfish liver, etc) were sold out. We barely got a fill serving of the albacore belly, but they graciously gave us a discount. I would recommend the raw bar dishes we had (the yellowtail was delicious)!

Really, really enjoyed the unique flavors and the high quality of the rolls here. Pickled eggplant? In sushi? Hell yes! Also, so much real crab and no krab. We ate well here.

Great happy hour, and also regular menu items. Everything tastes fresh and is fairly reasonable in price.

Wow, this place continues to blow my mind! Whenever I visit my daughter I take her to her favorite place Umi's. The food is consistently amazing, I have never once had a bad meal here. The Rock Star Roll is pure bliss. I highly recommend this place to all 10/10!

They were book but were able to fit us in. We had an amazing meal before we headed out to a concert. Umi never disappoints.

Hands down the best sushi I've ever had. A must try!

Love this place!!! We were seated a few minutes before our reservation - would definitely suggest making a reservation if you’re going in the weekend. The vibe and aesthetic is so cool. The menu is huge, so review it first. The food is amazing. We tried a bunch of different rolls, everything was amazing. Can’t wait to go back!

There wait to obtain a seat around dinner was around 30 minutes during the weekdays. Reservations are usually available which will make your experience much more enjoyable. The employees were all very friendly and even though there was a large number of customers there, there was no excessive delay in having our dishes brought to the table. The food was wonderful. The only thing we ordered that I didn't absolutely love was the nabeyaki udon. It was very tasty but the crab, and clams were still inside of their shells in the dish. The pot that the udon is delivered in is very hot which cooked the egg perfectly by the end but overcooked the scallops. If you order this dish: plan ahead, eat the scallops first as they are perfectly cooked at that point, then enjoy a side dish while the pot finishes cooking lol.

It was fine. The sashimi was fresh and tasty but their special rolls werent something that I'd say was phenomenal. I got the bad boy roll and it seemed like something I can get at any other place in nyc. Their garlic short rib tasted pretty decent but i can find something better at a good korean restaurant. Overall, an ok experience..

Love the vibe. Lot of vegetarian and vegan options available and they were delicious!

This place is incredible, the staff is so friendly and accommodating of allergies and the drinks are so unique and tasty. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming, it was dark so it would be a perfect place for date night. I would happily come here again. The caterpillar roll is also out of this world.

The rolls are huge. Got two rolls for two people and we were pretty full. They were really, really good too. The atmosphere is unique and cool. There’s a more quaint dimly lit seating area with plants and then a brighter more lively seating area around the sushi bar.
TIP: if no tables are available, walk back to the drink bar. They have the full menu there.

I am not a sushi guy and I don't like Sake. I do however have some friends who love this place and we met them there. I had checked out the menu ahead of time and knew that at least there were some options for someone who doesn't like sushi. I went in with an open mind decided to be brave an ordered some sushi it had cooked fish in. It was fantastic! Before the night was over I ate some spicy tuna and many other things. The food is beautiful it's like a work of art. The service was really fantastic. The price was not ridiculous. My wife and I had great food and loved the place. I found out I like some sushi and would highly recommend this place.

I love Umi. The food is always fresh and delicious. Usually we sit at the sushi bar after the dinner rush which is the most fun. Today we sat at a table in the back. We had a reservation and seated pretty quickly despite being tardy. The staff was kind with great recommendations. However, the table and the booths were a bit hard to sit at and it was a little hard to hear the conversation between my group. Overall, the staff is great, food is even better and the restaurant is very clean with nice bathrooms!
