Reviews of Portage Bay Cafe - Roosevelt

Finally had a chance to try this place for breakfast and was not disappointed. I had the rancher's breakfast and hot tea. I loved everything but the bacon, only in that I prefer a thicker cut. It was still good though!
They have a nice little bar that contains all kinds of berries, thick whipped cream and tons for your French toast or pancakes. I really loved the berries and cream.
This place is always really busy when I walk by, and they do take reservations, so if you plan on having a large party is good to plan ahead. They also have heated outdoor seating area of you like to get a bit of fresh air wile sipping a mimosa or coffee. There are quite a few menu options including gluten free and vegetarian dishes for those who are looking for those alternatives.

Our favorite Saturday breakfast venue! The right ingredients, prepared well and delivered with super great service. Always busy with a line, even with reservations, but worth the wait. Covered outdoor seating is perfectly comfortable and pleasant. Try the self serve fruit bar for your pancakes! FOLLOW ME for more thoughtful recommendations as I travel the world 🌎

If you plan to come to this location, I’d heavily recommend a reservation, or id recommend a light snack before coming by. The parking here is in the back and can get a little congested, but there’s street parking a few blocks away. Service here was really great! I thought they worked well as a team. It seemed as though my water was full every time I looked over. As for the food, I thought it was good overall. I ordered the breakfast burrito, my wife got a skillet, and friends got the pancake. I’m harsh critic on breakfast burritos. Typically, I don’t like breakfast potatoes in my burrito because it’s a cheap filler. However, I thought mine tasted pretty good. The first thing I noticed was an over easy egg on top, which I appreciated. It was different. After biting in, I noticed the freshness of the tortilla, which goes a long way for me. If you order a pancake or waffle, it comes with the fruit bar which was a pretty cool idea - you can decorate and add to your hearts desire. I would recommend this area if you live in the area, and you are looking for a consistent brunch experience. If you’re visiting, I might recommend something that stands out a little more.

Such great food every time I go here! We got the vegan banana pancakes and the uli's spicy scramble. Both were delicious! The pancakes came with a trip to the toppings bar which is always great, with plenty of fresh fruit and whipped cream! Even though it was super busy the staff we friendly and worked quickly and efficiently.

Last month we tried having a brunch in this cafe since we heard a lot about it. It was a good experience but not it could be much better. The staff were amazing! The fruit bar wasn't clean enough (I understand that insects love sweet things, but there should be a way to get rid of them). Also, they can serve the foods with a better garnish; that makes a huge change. Swedish pancake was too sweet.

This is THE place for breakfast/brunch in Seattle. If you ever drive by and notice that the line is huge or that it seems really busy... well there is a reason for it.
The food is has decently sized portions so that you can split an entree and side and be good to go. I am sure all of the entrees are good so no advice I can give you there... but the fruit bar... either get an entree that comes with a trip to the fruit bar or get the $6 side of fruit and creme! You will thank me later! You are only allowed one trip to the fruit bar so put on your big boy/girl pants on and remind them why they only allow one trip to the fruit bar. The fruit is so good.
Enjoy :)

I went to this Cafe with my friends. Must say it's one of the best cafe's in Seattle. The food tasted amazing. We had a chance to sit the patio, which is a win win. Would recommend it for a good brunch.
Flying Fish
What a great place. It really exceeded my expectations in all ways. From the lap blankets on the chair to the cloth napkins, to coffee that was perfectly roasted, ground, and brewed, to the food that was cooked by somebody who cared about getting it right. Super nice big outdoor tent space with heaters, too. It's not cheap to eat there, but it's well worth it. Lots of local sourced meat, lots of organic vegetarian choices on the menu, all with high end ingredients.

Despite a popular 21 Pilots song, one should absolutely Believe the Hype around Portage Bay. A wide brunch menu contains offerings for every pallette, from the most die hard carnivore to gluten free and vegan individuals. Everything is made with care and craft, delighting the senses. Inside is a classic slick modern look, classy yet unpretentious. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Seattle and looking for morning eats.

Went to Portage Bay Cafe for the first time for breakfast. We got there around 8:45 am and it got busy immediately after. I would recommend that you make a reservation ahead of time as this place seems to be popular on weekends.
The food was good and the portions were plenty. They have heating and blankets for outdoor seating. Service was great and the place was clean.
Overall a pleasant experience!

We kept wondering about this place as we always saw long queues and when we went to this place it was totally worth the wait!!
We had food-blast!!!
They have amazing seasonal menu on top of regular menu. We got Egg Benedict, Salmon Benedict, Swedish Pan cakes, Philly style Scrambled eggs and from season menu Mushroom - Veggie Omelette. Food was delicious and yummy. They have also have side table with fresh fruits, cream and butter and various toppings for pancakes.

Really good pancakes and the berry bar. It's delicious and worth every penny. I didn't like their savory dish Migas so I'd recommend sticking with something sweet.
Edit: as of Dec 2022 they don't have the tres leches pancakes anymore which were my favorite. Please bring them back.
Saba Z
Average food. I would not recommend the omelettes since the veggies in the omelette are a mash-up of randomly picked veggies and not evenly cooked.
The crepe like dish was good though.
I would probably not visit this place again but it was not in anyway a bad experience.

What an awesome place, a serious staple for uw students and anyone looking for good breakfast foods, with tons of gluten free options that *gasp* don’t taste like sawdust. They taste good!
We got the mole verde burrito, the Swedish pancakes, and a bunch of other stuff and can’t wait to go back to eat every bit of it again. I’ve been coming for years and this joint never disappoints- make a reservation, it’s popular!!
Manjot Sudha
This place has super cool vibe and is packed. Thank goodness we made a reservation. The crab cake in eggs Benedict were of really good quality but not sure about the hollandaise sauce. The shakshuka was pretty good too.
Catharine Parise
Nice place for a brunch, but it's super busy. They don't accept reservations, so relax and wait.
The menu is all about classic americam breakfast: eggs, french toast, pancakes, waffles, etc. They have a lovelly outdoor seating area. There are gluten free and vegetarian alternatives.
Sudhashree Gholkar
We made a reservation before going here on Sunday afternoon which was a wise choice. They got us a table outside in a covered area with heaters so it was warm. The food was hot and delicious. We ordered breakfast sandwich and biscuits n gravy. Overall service, food and ambiance all were good and good arrangements for winter too. Would definitely go again.
Mary Lou Borden
Went twice for breakfast such a quick walk from our hotel! Food was great. Fresh and local!! They are busy. But service is fast, attentive and friendly!
Samantha Rice
I've been to two of their Seattle locations. Hands down the best brunch place. Amazing food. Vegan and gluten free options. Pitchers of mimosas. Make sure to reserve a table a day or two in advance. This is a Seattle local favorite so expect it to be packed
MaddiezMunchies
Love going to portage bay for some gluten free French toast or Swedish pancakes! It is not celiac safe but works great for gluten intolerances. The French toast is fluffy on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside, serving size is large, and they have a full berry/topping bar! Side note: their whipped berry butter for the Swedish pancakes is delicious!
Rio Hindami
Had a wonderful experience here for brunch. Food was spectacular and the service was friendly. Ordered the Joe’s Scramble and would recommend. Enjoyed my meal in their outdoor patio as well
Sam Beed
The service was great! Food was pretty decent, standard breakfast. Breakfast potatoes were tasty. The sandwich had a bit too much fig jam on it but still enjoyable.
Manu Khandelwal
One of the best brunch places in Seattle. They are in South lake union, Ballard, Roosevelt and ok 65th st. Must try. Long waits always, but worth it.
J. Gatica
Initial visit here met with visiting family. Busy brunch time. Reservations recommended. Service was good. Food was very good. Mimosa pitchers were delicious and loaded with alcohol. Recommended place for brunch if your in the capital hill area. Will return.
Dieketseng Ellen Mpolokeng-Makatsa
The best bruch ever!!! Great service, great atmosphere...love their outside sitting.
The food was amazing..Definitely going back 😋
Riccardo Panella
Very good brunch!! The berry bar is pretty awesome and allows you to personalize some plates.
It can get very crowded, get there early or be prepared for staying in line for a while!
Michaela Gist
Enjoyed our experience here. Nice perk to have the blankets on the chairs since it was chilly outside. Crab cake Benedict was delicious. Full of real crab; Not a bunch of breadcrumb filler. The special Ron scramble today was delicious!
Malissa Groh
The food was amazing! My kids loved every bite of it! And the service was exceptional also! Thanks for such a great birthday treat!
Gi D
Bit of a wait. I recommend you make reservations so you don't end up waiting an hour. When we make reservations. The wait is typically ~15 minutes, as opposed to walk in 40-60 mins. Food is always on point. I love the Berry bar. Lots of GF options
Trudy Gaytan
The menu here is wonderful, with locally sourced ingredients. I always lean towards the French toast with the berries, nuts and cream topping bar.
Ralph Ahn
Portage Bay is an excellent breakfast location serving traditional breakfast dishes but... good. For example, many places serve the standard fare of eggs Benedict or biscuits and gravy but it comes out greasy and devoid of flavor. Portage Bay serves the same dishes, but does it right and goes even further. Crab cakes for eggs Benedict, plenty of gravy for the biscuits, huge french toast with a serve yourself toppings bar... Even their ketchup and hot sauces are non traditional and amazing. They're like that one kid in class who annoyingly went way over the requirements of the assignment, but we actually like that kid! Nice job Portage, keep it up!!
Alissa C
You know that rare feeling you get when you eat a really really good meal? Yeah, that's this place, and it's consistent. Ballard location as well. My recommendation is Joe's scramble, which was actually life changing. I didn't even know egg scramble could be so good until this place. French toast is also incredible and I love the fruit bar. Even better is that ingredients are organic and you can taste the difference in quality. At this $14-20 price range at this quality of food, Portage Bay Cafe is absolutely my favorite brunch place in Seattle so far.
Food aside, great service and lots of seating indoors. It's very busy on weekends though so definitely make a reservation ahead of time and your wait will only be ~5 mins after your reservation time. Food came super quickly once we ordered too.
Aixa Kay
Making reservations here the night before was easy and thank goodness we did, because the lineup we saw after finishing our meal was LONG. Let me tell you, the oat latte here was one of THE BEST I had in my life. Thank you barista! My son ordered the weekend waffle, it was with pecans and HEAVENLY. I kept stealing his food. I got the pumpkin pancakes and appreciated the flavor. It needs something, I just can’t figure out. The option to load on fruits from the bar was nice. A vibrant, cozy and lively spot. Would try it again and perhaps get eggs next time.
Alice Shen
The fruit bar is my fav.
Definitely go for that if you are a fruity pancake lover.
Quite crowded on game days, since that was when I went, but I think you can make reservations.
Dom Weldon
Pretty good brunch spot. This location was extremely busy, I never waited too long for the one in SLU. Food was tasty. Service and prices were decent. Requires a great deal of patience. Would also avoid eating at the tables outside unless you want to eat with an audience.
Claya Chu
Very popular brunch place. Remember to make reservations or you’ll join the long queue during weekend morning. Food is decent, come in large portion. Had crab cake egg Benedict and it was ok. Coffee and tea get to refill for free. To me there’s too little greenery in the plate so won’t come back again.

Visited the restaurant on Saturday for weekend brunch after seeing all the good reviews. Our experience was much different. The 3 stars are for the servers. The service was great but the food was terrible. The eggs were either too old or bad quality. The bread was dry and burnt. Literally black color but they didn’t miss a beat before putting it on our table. Thought it was a local favorite but left very disappointed.
Shipra Behera
Had to reserve a table a day earlier, and understood why. The rush is just mad in the weekend. Coming to food, Huevos rancheros was good, but nothing extraordinary. I like the biscuits and gravy better. I just got into brunch mimosas so I was tempted by the peach mimosa and it did not disappoint me :)
And also get the coffee cake if you're a party of 2-4. It's a nice-to-have with a steaming cup of goodness and btw they serve good coffee :)
Diamond Cole
Great service! Pretty good food! Another biscuits and gravy dish, this time paired with bacon and onions! “Everything’s better with bacon” or whatever Einstein said. Tried the oatmeal cobbler French toast, again another breakfast favorite of mines. First thought was, this is a bit much. It’s covered in a sweet berry compote, plus a sweet lemon sauce and a house made whip. Needless to say I was ready! Both dishes complimented each other very well! The biscuits and gravy was filling and savory. The French toast was sweet, pair this with a mimosa and you have a recipe for a great day!
Calvin
It's okay overall. Nothing really stands out.
I think the swedish pancakes are a bit too thick and chewy.
I like the fruit bar.
Definitely get a reservation or you'll have a long wait on the weekend for brunch.
Alayna Becker (Sharkpop)
Banana foster French toast is to die for.
The Seattle Benedict was so tasty
Ben Nguyen
The food was good. It seemed like all the ingredients were high quality and properly prepared so no complaints there. It is expensive though compared to other places but it is fine since I think it is better. Service was good.
jane hunt
The servers here are so nice considering how rude and incompetent some customers are!! to the sweet girl with the red hair working the check in counter, way to go!! she was so sweet to me and my cousin. food here always impresses me, fills you up and is made from good quality ingredients!
Crystal Johnson
It's a rather long and narrow building and it's fairly loud. If you don't mind getting cozy with your neighbors or the fact that they have children that are screaming. I minded none of it as it was an enchanting experience. Friendly staff, quick service, amazingly delicious food. The best potatoes that I have ever eaten, in my entire life, in Seattle. Be cautious of the coffee, it was burnt this time. I'm sure it won't happen next time I go though so there's that.
Benny Mamani (LikesRuffles)
From my experience the service is quick, respectful, and kind. That alone deserves 4.5 stars. So for the purposes of keeping a high rating I'm giving the Portage Bay Cafe 5 stars.
After the obstacles most restaurants endured during the pandemic, having a staff you can rely on is difficult to achieve.
The fresh squeezed orange juice is extremely refreshing. The coffee wasnt worth a single complaint. All the bread...? Toasted to the crunch and pillow soft in the center.
Once the food arrived, I realized I didn't even have a chance to think about how long it would take. Nor did the food arrive too quickly for me to believe that the cooks cut corners.
If I had to give some critiques it would be the state of the staff & quality of management. A tired expression had washed the faces of everyone this morning. Making their pace, and quick service, even more commendable than my initial impression. I noticed the detail of service everytime a sleepy waiter performed a clean and fast pour to refill a customer's water. My Spinach Scramble arrived a bit soggy (I did not send it back it was still quite satisfying) which tells me even the cooks are feeling the weight of their own fatigue. When spinach and eggs are mixed you need to watch out for how long the greens are exposed to heat. Otherwise the water seeps from the palisade and will condensate the eggs. I assume the heat was on high when making the scramble and the cook added the spinach too early to account for time. I expect this judged off the quality the other foods like the "pork belly sandwhich" which was very tender. Another thing I noticed is that the servers seemed to be menu trained very well but had some pretty low food knowledge. This shows me that communication between front and back of house could use some improvement. There's so much a new server can learn within the first few weeks on the job just by talking with a passionate cook. However, passion and energy is NOT the responsibility of staff. It is the achievement of upper management. My last critique goes to the LINTY NAPKINS. Portage Bay needs to talk to whomever washes their table napkins, because they will leave noticable white specs of lint on any article of black clothing.
It is important that the culture of the business start from management, or from "the top" and allowed to steep to the staff. When Natural Communication is encouraged then the motivation to present an overwhelmingly positive customer experience becomes easier to achieve. Portage Bay has some extrememly talented staff willing to work hard. I feel their potential is held back by something above their control.

Had heard great things about this place and we finally came to try it out. Did not disappoint one bit. We didn't have a reservation but they got us right in (we got there shortly after opening on a Saturday). Service was great, everyone was so nice and food came quick. I got the ulis spicy scramble and it was delicious! They really mean spicy on this one! My husband got the mole verde burrito. He said it's definitely one of his favorite breakfasts now. We will be back again!

Came in for brunch, party of 3. I made a reservation and was seated within about 5 min of my reservation time which was great. The staff were all great. we were told the benedicts were running a little behind, which is fine, but instead of just waiting to bring out all of the food at the same time so it was all hot, they brought out the other 2 orders and then we were sitting there waiting to eat for another 5-10min waiting for the benedict. French toast and Swedish pancakes were good, benedict was ok. There were only about 8 pieces of potatoe on the plate which was not enough but also made the presentation look like potatoes were missing. Also, when I looked online at the menu, it said pitchers of mimosas were $38. the menu at the restaurant stated $44. This wouldn't have been an issue if the mimosas were worth it. It tasted like there was hardly any champagne in it at all. Overall I would probably try this place again but it seemed pretty over priced for what you get.
Kenley Raye
Great Food - Slow/ Nonattentive service thus the 4/5 star rating.
Love this spot minus the service.
Asked for GF toast and got the same honey bread everyone else gets and slow AF.
Got the Farmers Daughter Hash bowl with poached eggs and peppered bacon.
Yum !
Will come back and try again for a different server.
Alex C
The brunch here is overpriced, and not very impressive in my opinion. It's a popular spot, though, so the atmosphere is always lively - loud, even. I wouldn't particularly recommend visiting, but I'll admit its proximity to the university makes it a convenient choice.

If you are a Gluten free person and have never had a bread which tastes Amaaaaziiiingly delicious then go to Portage Bay Cafe now!!! Their house made gluten free bread (and all other breads I've tried before) is delicious. The house made jam they serve with the break takes it to heavens!
You can pick any omelet from the menu and it WILL be fresh, seasoned, full of flavor and delicious. Every buck spent worth it.
Love this place 💓
Katie C (KitKat805)
We had brunch here and it was delicious!! The oatmeal french toast, Joe's scramble and classic Benedict all pictured. We also had a pitcher of mimosa with the food as well. Great food and quick service!
Bella Gold
This place is awesome, the food was great the staff was okay can't really say we had a guy in training. Love the lighting, its so uplifting and the layout is calm and nurturing.

Portage Bay is one of the good brunch spots around Seattle area. We picked their Portage Bay (Roosevelt street) location this time and made reservations for 5 people.
My friends got there first (15 mins before time). The hostess couldn't find our reservation and was rude about it. When I got there she finally found the reservation magically and we had to wait another 20 minutes to get a table.
The food was good. They have good options in their monthly chef specials for July 2022. We tried their summer omelette, shakshuka, oat meal pancakes, vegetarian biscuits and gravy and grand ol bake. Their coffee is ok and you can skip it.
The service was not the best either at the table. Like the hostess the server didn't seem very welcoming. It felt unwelcomed.
Ardhra Sivasankaran
Lovely space for breakfast with great light and plenty people on a holiday. I liked the coffee, and the outdoor space is best for Summers, while the seats by the windows will be amazing on a rainy Seattle day.
Jamie Crowley
Overall great experience! The menu is 1 page, but everything looked very delicious. They have a selection of breakfast foods, salads, sandwiches & coffees. I got the ranchers breakfast which included eggs (cooked how you want), a meat option, skillet potatoes, and French toast or pancakes. I also got a house coffee, which was a delicious dark roast.
If you get a pancake or French toast, they have a "breakfast bar" which has a variety of berries, peaches, nuts, and fresh thick whipped cream. I got the French toast, which was delicious on its own but decorating it with berries was a fun & I liked personalizing my dish.
Jorge Villalobos
Great food but there is a big but..
25 years and yet.. have you got the memo about the coffee?
It tastes like it is burned, not like is a strong coffee, but burnt. I don’t know why can’t offer at least a different coffee, it almost always spoils the experience
Don’t get me wrong, I love the food here, the carnitas egg Benedicts here are probably the best I’ve had in Seattle, definitely recommend, it’s amazing and I will keep coming back because such great food quality, but it feels so bad that I can’t have good coffee in a place I like so much.
Jacob Rhees
Delicious food and I love the fruit bar! It's always busy but they always have great service and good food. My fav for brunch
Julia Hustler
Excellent breakfast. French toast + the toppings bar is so yummy. Wish all the fruit was fresh but I get it. Huge servings. Real whipped cream. The dungeness eggs Benedict looked great though I didn't try it. The crab cakes were thick and plentiful. Seasoned potatoes with the bene were so good! Highly recommended.
Mei Fu Lee
I highly recommend you make a reservation!! I made a reservation here at 11 am Sunday since my friends and I planned to walk around UW. We saw the high reviews and cool topping bar. There was a big crowd waiting outside, but we were seated immediately. It is pretty big, as they have outdoor seating also.
We ordered the benedict sampler, west coast benedict, goat cheese omelette, and banana fosters french toast. They only allow certain plates to go to the bar, and only a single trip. I went for the french toast. I put their whipped cream and most of the fruits. The whipped cream was really light and fluffy. The fruits were all pretty fresh too. We liked the roasted potatoes that came with some of the dishes. The benedicts were really good, and the yolks were perfect each time. The goat cheese was really strong, but definitely did not take away from the dish. The portions are also really big so we werent able to finish it all.
We definitely noticed that there was a big crowd during the whole time we were there. They also had a small cafe in the front, which always had a line during our time too. We definitely would come back if a reservation is available.
We also found their little petting zoo type thing a few doors down! Super cool to know the food is fresh and organic.
Heta Sanghvi
Really nice place for brunch. Make sure you reserve in advance for large groups. Otherwise wait is too long. The patio is covered.
The berry bar is nice.
Helicon Kuan
A very spacious, popular & tasty breakfast place located near UW that seems to be quite popular. I came with my sibling’s family and after making a reservation to seat 3 kids, the wait staff was incredibly helpful in helping us get a seat that accommodates our needs well. They provided the kids with crayons and small cups of water and paper to draw on too! But on to what is important. How was the food.
This was my first time but this place was very good. The ingredients were healthy, and this place offered a wide selection of American style breakfasts with an awesome fruit selection to top off ur pancakes and what not. My family and I ordered the Russel Wilson, the Joe’s Scramble, the Migas, the Eggs Benedict (not sure) and other items but everything was picked clean which is always a good sign (including what the kids ate). I felt everything was quite reasonable, but the toast was just a small slice of their honey wheat toast but it just didn’t seem that special or just pre-bought and unassuming. Who knows. I definitely recommend this place but beware of the crowd and the wait if u don’t make a reservation!
TerpsTalk
Just delicious, loved it all. Always friendly and willing accommodate any need you may have. The food was fast and hot.
Eric Greve
We went on a weekday for brunch and were seated right away, although the place was packed. The menu is short and priced fairly for the quality of ingredients they use. I highly recommend ordering something that allows you to go to the breakfast bar. I ordered the Rancher's Breakfast with a side of two pieces of French toast. At the breakfast bar, I loaded the French toast with berries, almonds, walnuts, and fresh whipped cream. I ended up taking most of my eggs, potatoes, and sausage home for another meal!
Sesar Urkaregi
This place never ever disappoints. There Dungeness crab omelet is very savory with a good crab flavor. You will never go wrong by ordering the French toast. It's not too sweet and also not dry but soft and fluffy. The breakfast fruit bar with nuts and fluffy whipping cream is the best thing by far. See for your self.
Sean Gordon
Farmers Hash: 3 organic over-easy eggs*, a variety of local, organic, sustainably grown fresh vegetables, roasted onions, fingerling potatoes, fresh herbs. served with organic, house-made whole wheat toast and tofu. This treat is AMAZING and you can’t miss at Portage Bay
Jannabeth Bannister
Great lunch and breakfast venue, though breakfast all day is limited on weekdays. I think menu is much more expanded on weekends for brunch. Loved our server, as I was able to get both a short stack AND a French toast from the breakfast bar menu. Score!!! I always enjoy coming here. The Roosevelt location shares a (free!!) parking space with the hotel! The pork sausage was delish, as well as the potatoes! I love breakfast so will be coming back of course!!

Decided to try out this cafe on my first visit to the UW campus. Pro tip: Make reservations if you’re planning to visit on a weekend or you’ll end up waiting up to 40 minutes for a table - they cant help it, it gets VERY busy. We ordered Eggs Benedict and class pancakes with a side of bacon. To drink I ordered the iced tea, which was OK. Service was excellent and timely, the food was good. I personally liked the breakfast bar available with an order of pancakes or French toast. They have a seasonal selection of berries, whipped cream and butter and you can have unlimited serves so I think its great value for money.
Debbie Yee
Excellent brunch place. We all ordered the Dungeness crab Benedict as the crab is a local staple of the area. The mimosas are incredibly tasty, and if you order pancakes you get a free serving from the fruit bar (with a huge tub of whipped cream!). Highly recommend for brunch, super tasty with excellent vibes.
Troy Ferrell
Top pick breakfast place in Seattle and a must go for any visitor. Great food options and they are particular known for their breakfast bar where you can load up on whipped cream and fresh fruit for your pancake or waffle. Their prices are a bit high for a breakfast joint but such a great place.
Luke M Perez
Easily among the very best breakfast joints I've been to in the US. And I've had a lot of good breakfasts.
The biscuits and gravy are seasonal, such that your options may vary depending on when you go. I can't recommend this place strongly enough.
The staff was very friendly, and I was able to be seated quickly. Whoever manages the kitchen runs a right ship. My food came our almost right after ordering. The coffee is excellent, as you'd expect for Seattle.
Kalissa Demarco
The food here is impeccable! We came for brunch and enjoyed ciders and a variety of mimosas. We ordered the crab cake benedict, huevos rancheros, and the challah french toast with berries and whipped cream. Everything was delicious and so filling! We couldn’t finish all our food but we wish we could have because wow.
Even with Covid being an issue- this place is top notch and makes sure to protect it’s customers by social distancing within their restaurant and keeping things very clean.
Christine Kurjan
This place! Such a favorite. Swedish pancakes are tasty-fine. Staff are amazing and so knowledgeable and personable.
Leo Rodriguez
Meh. I was really excited to eat here because I heard all the hype around this place and the line of people waiting to eat here but to summarize my experience, it was very mid. The food was okay, staff was nice, but it will not meet your expectations. Sorryyyyyyy try Cafe Flora for great brunch.
Ginger Lai
One of my favorite place for Seattle Brunch, they have self-service fruits bar if you choose to order house special. They use almost everything for organic, remember make reservation before you come unless you want to wait more than an hour during weekend hours.
Kalki Nozomi
I love the atmosphere of this place it's worth the price the food is delicious and causes no problems.I don't know how to make pancakes very well so I will come here to eat them. The French toast is also really good. I am disappointed there's not hash browns on the menu but there seems to be a hash bowl I will have to try next time😍
BTC BULLRIDER
excellent brunch selection & the French toast is amazing, with generous servings you can't go wrong with this establishment. Did I mention the exceptional customer service. Enjoy 😛😛 …
Saransh Gupta
The food was good, the french toast was well baked and the 21acre omelette was delicious. The mimosa was okayish. The ambience was decent. A decent brunch place.
Cici DesRoches
Dine in was great. Vaccination card must be shown. Lots of vegan options for breakfast. Wish they had a greater selection of coffee. All in all quick, cozy, good food :) will be coming back

Delicious! The biscuits are big and so good, the Swedish pancakes are authentic and the Seattle Benedict is fresh and tasty. I loved the biscuit of the Benedict is a hardier then other places and it doesn’t get soggy. Outdoor area is casual and comfortable with overhear coverage for the Seattle weather.

This location, like other locations of Portage Bay, becomes super busy for weekend brunch. We normally have to do a little plan ahead and make a reservation otherwise it is a long wait.
The food is very good. I have had almost all the dishes before and never disliked any of them. My favorite is still the french toast (and I get to go to the breakfast bar for toppings).
Take down one star because when it gets busy, you don't always get the cleanest table possible and sometimes waiting staff can take a long time for orders or checks.
Julia Chiu
Large place. Good food but a little on the pricey side. Clean. Fast service.
Lindsey LeVeque
Locally sourced food. Good options for GF and vegan. They have a wonderful breakfast bar loaded with all the different fruits you could want to go on your pancakes or French toast. A little on the pricey side but beautiful presentation and taste!
Chiemi ChiAmy206
Fresh and high quality ingredients. All dishes are tasty here. Good service, too. It can be crowded and I recommend to make reservations for a group more than 4 people. Parking is almost impossible since this is located at University District.
Jared Holbrook
I mean... JUST LOOK AT IT! No lie. Best French toast ive ever had. Hands down. Bread had this amazing texture and this paired up with some apple juice. 👌 …
Constantine Johns
What a treat!! This place is amazing. Such a nice atmosphere coupled by incredible and sustainable food. Their support for local farmers and local business is super refreshing and wonderful to see. You can taste it in the quality of the food and ingredients they use. Wonderfully bold flavors and so many great healthy choices. Check em out!!
Michael Boyle
This is our 4th breakfast here, and have enjoyed each experience. Sure, it's very busy and popular for a good reason. Very efficient and freindly employees, very tasty breakfast options, at a reasonable price. This time, it was egg's benedict, mine was with smoked salmon (uummm).
ANL
Delicious 🤤 food. Everything is perfectly seasoned. It’s not just a thoughtless simple breakfast. It’s everything and more. …
Astha Yadav
Loved the place ! Very good breakfast , buzzing cafe. Variety is amazing ,good spreads. Special mention to their pancakes which I found particularly delicious.
Bob Sweet
Great 9:00 a.m. weekday meal. I had the Jane Lynch omelette and it was great. Honestly didn't know if I would like it (not a big veggies in eggs kinda guy) but it really hit the spot. Daughter had the granola and yogurt and she thought that was good as well. She also got the fruit bar (included with some selections) and the choices of fruit was exceptional. Will be back again on next visit! Highly recommend making reservations.
Kim Ray
Good vibes, good organic food just a bit greasy. Overall liked it
David Kenney
Food here was amazing, but Wow, talk about big portions! The burrito I ordered was enough food for an entire day, haha 😁
I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area though, great atmosphere too.
Teresa C.
Loved the brunch here! Good service, good coffee and quality food. The portion was big so you could easily share the dishes and get a side, too. Will come back!
Heather Nicholls
My new favorite breakfast place. Portions are generous and food is to die for. Staff is attentive and friendly.
Rob Hill
Good quality, organic breakfast foods and classic diner fair with a twist. Place is a favorite for locals and UW students. Service was quick and friendly. Place is always busy, so I recommend reservations on weekends.
Luke Venco
The food is 100% fresh and amazing. My go to is the Rancher's breakfast which comes with eggs, your choice of meat, seasoned roasted potatoes, and either french toast or pancakes. With this you also get a trip to the fruit bar which has local sourced fruits that are as good as it gets.
Jenna Kenyon
The Bananas Foster French Toast was amazing! Friendly staff and looked like a pretty busy place. Coffee was also delicious.
Kavana Anand
This is my favorite brunch place. The menu has good options and varieties with Benedict's, omelets, the classics, and a couple of burritos. The waiters are very friendly and accommodating to vegetarian requirements.
I love salmon benedict and French toast. I also recommend green-mole burrito (they make veg option too). My friends had west coast benedict and Migas those were also great. The highlight is the potatoes that come with Benedict. Must try.
I recommend this place to try at-least-once and you will see yourself coming again soon.
Eric Willig
Delicious, clean, and well prepared food that always leaves us happy and full. The PBC Benedict sampler of 3 different egg Benedict meals is one of my favorites!
Kris Chen
Great brunch place! Big portion and good taste. There’s a shelf with lots of berries, you can put as much as you want on your pancakes;)
David Ottenheimer
Nice variety of very interesting breakfast options. The ability to add your own toppings like fruit, nuts, and whipped cream at the bar is really nice and fun (and included with the sweet breakfast item).
Laura Krahel
Always a brunch favorite. The Vegan Banana Pancakes are always my go-to, with an egg on the side. Definitely best to make a reservation here online if you're planning to go on the weekend.
Kyra Selinger
Best breakfast in Seattle. I love their farm to table approach. Everything was delicious, we visited twice during our trip!
audieaudie isawesome
Good service and good food. Berry bar was great :)
Srikanth Patil
Typically we have had a great experience at this location, but our most recent visit was disappointing. Among other things, they refused to make a super simple substitution - chicken sausage instead of pork sausage in an omelette.
1) it is an ingredient that they have elsewhere on the menu, and was in stock
2) it is an omelette that is made from scratch. How hard is it to throw in one type of sausage vs another?
One would expect a little more from an omelette that is priced at nearly $20
Connor Dooley
Coffee is excellent. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and it was just ok. Eggs were overcooked to the point that they were basically hard boiled out of the shell. Hollandaise needed more lemon juice and salt. Assuming it was just because it was a slow Tuesday morning but it was average at best for the price
Keya Madhukar
Amazing breakfast place! Should definitely go for with a reservation! Pancakes are to die for!
Caitlin Glore
This place is so so so good. The breakfast menu is to die for. But better than that? They support local business and are well aware of where their ingredients come from. I appreciate the friendly, fast service, even when it’s packed.
Jenny Ma
Seattle's classic, must-eat brunch place! Portage Bay is the absolute eden of gluttony. My standing order is their Benedict sampler - a delicious trio of three of their creamy, rich, filling benedicts (crab, ham & cheese, florentine are the three flavors I think). Hats off to you if you can finish this dish! Even better, you can walk around U-Dub just down the street to come out of your food coma.
If you're a fan of omlettes and seafood, their Dungeness crab omlette is awesome. For its pricetag, there's a solid amount of fresh crab that's complimented well by the other ingredients. An honorable mention is their pancakes (and unlimited toppings bar). There's endless fruits, nuts, syrups and creams for you to enjoy!
This place is an absolute gem. Don't miss it!
Brad Wuerer
Wow, the service was fabulous. The menu is terrific. Everything we had tasted really good. Love the berry bar for the pancakes. The French toast was tasted heavenly; the bread was super fresh. The crab eggs benedict was cooked perfectly.
Derek Busby
Delicious food using local sourced ingredients. Fresh fruit, nuts and other toppings on the toppings bar make wonderful additions to already wonderful fare.
T F Sakolsky
I love this place! My gluten free experience with french toast and fresh fruit was delightful. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. They do have a parking lot to make things easier. We went on a Thursday morning at 8:15am, no wait and not too busy. Brunch on weekends looks like their busiest time. I want to come back here the next time we're in Seattle.
Bella Harris
My absolute favorite brunch spot in Seattle. I've never had anything from here that wasn't amazing.
Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time though, they tend to get really busy!
Ингридgorl 625
MID. I got the Farmer’s Hash Bowl and it was alright, just didn’t have much going for it. It didn’t have much flavor other than the veggies themselves. The rest of my table got the Huevos Rancheros and the Mole Verde Burrito which were also mid. There was way too much meat in the burrito and almost not potatoes. I really liked the vibe of the place so hopefully the next thing I try is better!
Matthew B Holmes
The staff were too notch and the menu had many great looking options, but I was a disappointed in my trip to the famous berry bar. It is the height of berry season and what I ate did not reflect that at all.
Selena L
The Benedict I had was really quite delicious, however the potatoes ruined the meal.. we might have had a bad batch but it was like eating salt from the container, it was THAT salty. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. I suggest making it less salty and allowing customers to put their own salt if needed. Also they were so busy so service was slow. We asked 2 different servers before one finally brought the bill, the first server forgot.
Kylee Westmark
Mediocre all around. When you walk in on the right, it looks like a nice bustling greenhouse space. We were brought to the left, through one room, into another room. It was like sitting in a school lunch cafeteria. The food was fast, the service was polite but the food itself and the atmosphere was mediocre and not worth the prices. Very overhyped. Would not dine again.
Also never had Huevos rancheros with scrambled eggs, that was odd.
Amrutha
The portion sizes are large. Reserve a table or expect to wait for 10 mins on weekends. They have a Breakfast bar menu, which is quite unique. Service is good.
Ron Rumbaoa
Great menu! I had the opportunity to sample four dishes with my family and each one was excellent. I recommend calling in and making a reservation. Otherwise you may end up waiting in line. Highly recommend!
Chante Craig
So tasty!! They alway's have really great customer service, which is very surprising since there always busy!! I had the Dungeness crab egg Benedict with sauteed greens! Delicious!!!!!!😛😛 …
David Weiding
Great restaurant, but stayed very cold inside.
Derek T
Great service even when busy.
Crab cakes didn't seem fresh, but otherwise good food with a robust menu.
leanne p
Delicious! I had the pancakes with a trip to the berry bar. Fruit was fresh and great!
Amanda Kashvillee
Great experience. We all loved the food. We went there with my family during brunch time. Food is very good, Loved the huckleberry pancakes and fresh berries. check out this place if you are in the capital hill area. Will return.
A S
Nice brunch place! It has been quite crowded lately so try fo make reservations before you go!
Mugdha Bondre
Beautiful cafe. Great options for vegetarians and vegans. You can substitute egg with tofu in almost all options. You cant miss the Vegan Banana pancakes, even non-vegan folks (: A must try!
Ankita Gupta
One of the best breakfast places I have visited so far! You always have waiting over the weekends but should be seated within 20 mins. We ordered the migas and vegan biscuits and gravy. Absolutely loved both our breakfast dishes. Their latte was the best! This is gonna be my go to breakfast places in Seattle!
Sunkulp Ananthanarayan
The service was great but wow I just want to warn anyone that the biscuits and gravy does NOT come with biscuits, but rather with bread. VERY distant from what a biscuit tastes or feels like, so if you want a biscuit, don't get that. Menu is also a bit unclear but apparently some things are only available on certain days
Michael J. Thacker
Delicious! Highly recommended. I had the Mole Burrito today, but have never had anything that wasn't great.
Xenotine
Very good french toasts. You can add any toppings you like.
Antonio Tateo
Fantastic. Will be back!
Lauren Salas
We ate here twice because it was so delicious and also because when we got our food the first time we saw some other dishes go out to other tables and decided we had to try those too! Quick friendly service, MASSIVE portions, and it’s all so good. Make sure someone orders something that includes a trip to the berry bar- delish local fruit and amazing toppings! It’s all fantastic
Toy Lin
Great foods
Friendly staffs
Nice coffee
Comfortable morning 🤠🤠🤠 …
Nitha Benny
Best brunch place. Everything we ordered was good. The mimosas were good as well. Portion size is pretty great. There are 2-3 branches but I think this one has the highest ratings. The veggies were super fresh. They have tie ups with local farmers so everything is fresh and service was pretty good too.
Cheryl Perry
My favorite restaurant of all time 💜
So many delicious gluten free options!
Nancy Espinosa
9/25/21 - It was my first time at the Roosevelt location. FYI the establishment does get packed on the weekends so if your in a hurry I’d suggest you make a reservation. I made a reservation they got me right in . My friends and I started with the Husky Mimosa which was a blue raspberry lemonade mimosa! It was delicious, we loved the variety of mimosa pitchers! I ordered the the Dungeness crab grilled cheese. Man could I talk about the flavor! That is what made me want to make a review. My friends both ordered the banana foster and one of them gave me a piece . WOW (I don’t really like banana in general) but the toast was so fluffy so tasteful I could reconsider having it. I Loves how the menu shared their local ingredients. I had lower expectations about this location and they proved me wrong!!!! Will definitely be coming back .
Monica Lough
Quick service and amazing food!!
Brenda A.
Good food...but the wait was about 30minutes for us and the line was crazy long when we left. The food was good.
Wyatt Wheeler
The food is amazing here. I enjoyed everything. Will be back
Brooks Morin
The food has always been amazing. Lots of vegetarian options, and super accommodating for modifications to menu items. Service is usually not too long, but varies widely as the week goes on. Brunch on the weekends is slammed! Limited parking, both provided and street parking are pretty busy. Great place to make reservations, meet up for good locally sourced and organic meals, in a very community centric part of the city!
Gisella Tellys
Great brunch! Big portion. The french toast is super delicious. There is a berry bar where you can grab all the fruits and toppings for your pancake/french toast. Service was great!
karen Altenberger
The food here is great. We went there for my son's birthday and loved the fresh sandwiches and pancakes. They have an open section for choosing fresh berries and they are great. We would definitely go back.
Amie Burgher
Very good omelet! I do enjoy goat cheese with my eggs. The potatoes were a welcome side and seasoned well.
Living Soul
They have amazing gluten free vegan pancake which is the sole reason I go back to this place!! Their pancakes are the best I have ever had. Love their coffee too!! The only issue is they don’t have vegan food options apart from pancake and Buddha bowl. They don’t even substitute eggs for tofu. Which make it hard!!
tina valencia
Loved everything about this place! The food was delicious! My little guy ordered the pancakes and they have a fresh fruit bar where you can add unlimited organic toppings
Julia Liang
This place recently become our favorite on a Saturday for relax and enjoyable breakfast
Brian G Ramsey
Great brunch spot with lots of options an amazing ingredients
Heinrich H
the food is good and the staff is friendly, but the place closes early, and it's usually pretty busy, so, if you want eat here, either make a reservation or show up early, and expect to wait in either case.
Dominick Freeman
Great food and service. Dungeness Crab Cake Benedict was an awesome meal to have!
Brad -
I so appreciate the quality of service and the quality of the food. This was among the best dining experiences I've
enjoyed in Seattle.
Krista Spencer
Loved the entire experience! Personable, friendly staff. Enjoyed how they work in teams so every guest feels attended to. Great ambience and delicious food!
I highly recommend the outdoor patio. Even on chilly mornings you’re nice and cozy with provided blankets, umbrella heaters, and even smaller personal heater options.
Christopher Lenoir
Great food, nice employees and incredible Tres Leches pancakes. Seriously recommend it if you're in the area.
Amber B.
Halloween special are fantastic
Anonymous
I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I ordered the huevos rancheros and the chefs can definitely cook mexican cuisine. I also ordered the regular pancakes with the whip cream and fruit and that was a great dessert. My girlfriend ordered the seattle eggs benedict and she also enjoyed it. The one negative was trying to find parking in this area. We were seated outdoors and checked on regularly.
Jen Nguyen
A must go to if you're in town visiting. I love bringing my guests here
Heliana Deya
Love this place, food (breakfast is really good) fresh fruit for the packets, and french toast
is my favorite thing 😋 👌🏻.
Sometimes the wait is a little bit longer.
But is worthy.
Katie Ebers
This was our first breakfast date in a year and it was amazing! We sat outside under heaters with blankets so we were nice and toasty! I can highly recommend the crab cake eggs benedict, it was delightful! And even though we were outside the fantastic staff kept our coffee and waters topped up! It felt very safe and was such a treat!
K Lewis
Outdoor dining space was warm. Breakfast was delicious and service was great. We ordered swedish pancakes and french toast - happily took home what we couldn't finish. We were comfortable even though it was pouring rain outside. Didn't notice the free parking by the hotel entrance but will use it next time!
Mel Noelle
Incredible breakfast menu! Everything i tried was amazing. Servers were kind and helpful. Very clean and fun atmosphere.
Mike Liam
Absolutely love their breakfast. I wasn’t able to try everything on their menu. A variety of choices and the portions are big. I got the West Coast Benedict. Organic farm eggs, fresh spinach and sliced tomatoes were amazing as is the sauce. I love good food so I recommend this place for visiting.
Sarah Tuttle
Delicious as always. Got here at 9:30 and missed the brunch rush, which was nice. I'm always torn between the yummy sweet options that enable me to browse the nuts and berries breakfast bar, and the delicious savory eggs options. The icing on the cake (or whipped cream on the pancakes) is that PB sources local food for most everything. Fresh and delicious (and we even managed to park in the attached lot.)
Bryan Roller
Excellent sweet and savory dishes. Famous for their fruit bar complementing pancakes and french toast. Excellent coffee.
Maryam Gani
Friends and I went to this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon for some breakfast! Food was delicious and there were huge portions. Only thing was was that I felt like the west coast benedict was a little too salty for me, otherwise delicious and beautiful looking food! Felt a little uncomfortable that blankets being offered for outdoor seating weren’t being washed between uses (esp during Covid-19). Waiters were super accommodating and offered me and my group extra heating outside.
Erin Ottman
Top tier service! One of the best brunch experiences I have had! The food was fantastic, and all of the staff was extremely friendly.
Chris McQuillan
I have always liked this place. Good food and good service. Portions are fairly robust and quality is good. Prices aren't cheap, but I guess with the ingredients and current times, it is somewhat expected.
Karissa Culley
What a warm welcome we received this morning! After completing the Seattle Marathon, the cafe manager congratulated our runner, sat us immediately, and as a special thanks for being the first racer to arrive this morning, he covered the breakfast of our finnisher. As for our runner, she felt genuinely supported by her community by such a lovely gesture, and enjoyed a dependably delicious brunch after an exhausting race.
Thank you so much PBC!
Ian Dahl
Food is amazing, their Benedict is to die for, highly recommend the pork option as it is just the right amount of crispy with a great hollandaise sauce.
The crab grilled cheese is also spectacular with the best potato bread you could ask for.
Great for mimosa brunch as well, or that weekend brunch with your parents. You should definitely get a reservation as it is always packed!
Harut Solorzano
Upon entering, you know you're going to eat good food. The staff is friendly and the seating is quick. We are seated immediately and drinks are brought out quick.
I'm having the Eggs Benedict and they are absolutely amazing. They are perfectly seasoned and taste just amazing.
I definitely recommend this place.
Ben Roberts
Good but not great. The French toast was quite dry and just not great. Everything else was really good!
Mel Georgiou
That unlimited berry bar with fresh whipped cream is a game changer. You also can order fresh organic berry puree for mimosas which I would like to try in the future.
Jessica Norgard
The staff was friendly and helpful, if a bit harried. It was quite busy.
Shaun Stuart
The Swedish pancakes were great. The sausage in the Puget wrap was oddly tasteless - just the barest hint of fennel and nothing else. The toast is thick and amazing. I've been here before and have always had really good food and I think the sausage was just an anomaly.
Laura Combs
Great food. Fresh, local, and a nice treat. Husky Mimosa was delicious. Having the ability to make a reservation was nice because there was quite a wait when we arrived.
Alex Maloney
Love that they use local and organic food! Got the farmers hash and it was amazing. Such a great mix of veggies topped with an egg and a thick piece of toast.
Ash n
The carnitas Benedict was amazing, tight mix of spicy meat and perfect eggs
Cody Simonson
Great breakfast still. Last time I came here there was only one portage Bay Cafe so that should tell you it has been a while. Had "Pete's Breakfast". Eggs, potatoes, and sausage link. Everything was tasty.
Sarah L
One of the best breakfast destinations in town. Hard to beat locally sourced and organic options. Coffee is really good too! I try to get here early to avoid the rush on the weekends, but definitely worth the wait of there is a line. I've never been unimpressed. Food is always on point and service is attentive and quick. I'll definitely be back!
A AA
Beautiful, and delicious breakfast. Plus great service!
S. B.
By far one of the most memorable french toasts I've had, in a good way. They were downright delicious not to mention very filling. After eating I was definitely satisfied, then I had the rest of the food items on the plate to finish. The fruit bar was delicious and I'm not sure how they made their whipped cream but it was very good. Waiter asked me if I wanted another trip up to the bar but there was no way I could fit more, and I'm usually able to eat my fair share. Completely worth the money
Matt Krieger
I love this restaurant. It's been my go-to weekend breakfast spot for 4 years now. Go early, make a reservation, or prepare to wait. They turnover the tables quickly, but you could still wait a while if your luck or timing is bad.
The breakfast bar comes with the pancake and French toast options. It's loaded with many delicious options like fresh whipped cream, strawberries, blueberries, brown sugar, butter, and many others that go good on a pancake or French toast. Crab cake benedict and the daily biscuits and gravy are my personal favorite items.
Staff is friendly and attentive. Same staff as I've been coming to this spot 4 years ago, mostly, so that tells me they treat the employees right. They also focus on local ingredients and detail sources on the menu, if you're into that sort of thing.
Alexander Salazar
Best breakfast on Seattle. Love the eggs Benedict.
Steve Pasion
Really good breakfast and lunch joint. The fresh fruits at the breakfast bar are similar outstanding. Very decent portion sizes, you won't leave here hungry.
The lunch menu isn't plentiful but the select dishes they do offer are all legit. The steak salad is not to be missed.
We have yet to be disappointed here after multiple visits.
Ashley Gothenquist
Their hot chocolate is to die for! Also shout out to my waiter for saving me from a bee
Lucas Gerbeaux
Delicious brunch. Interesting recipes and good potions. Not too much not too little. Next time I’m definitely trying the pancakes with breakfast bar, that seemed decadent
Chris Raymond
Got take out on Mother's day. Recommend that people check their orders when they pick them up as our order was not complete. Food we got tasted great as usual, but unfortunate that it was missing important items (french toast is not Bananas Foster french toast with no bananas or rum sauce).
Jorge Olivares
Very good place it can get crowded and wait times be between 30-40 mins but well worth it , portions are also very generous
Collyn DeWitt
One of my absolute favorite places to go for breakfast. This place is almost always packed full of people. The swift service keeps people moving so wait times are usually not too bad, about 5-10 min. Excellent coffee and atmosphere. Not a quiet place at all but still comfortable, outdoor seating is available during the warmer days.
K A Mineheart
How could you not love a place that offers all organic or locally-sourced foods? This place is great. The food is always outstanding, and most dishes are unique enough you wouldn't just whip them up in your own kitchen. For breakfast, it's a bit expensive, but there are some great things at the topping bar for French toast or pancakes, like fresh blackberry compote or freshly-made, real whipped cream. For lunch, your money goes further, and I'd say it's priced similarly to other places in Seattle. You will enjoy what you eat in a nice, crisp atmosphere, leave full, and be happy to return.
Carrie Campbell
Great food! Fun atmosphere. Service is good but slow to get to you, which is fine for socializing meals. If you're in a hurry, reconsider. Another note - toast was not really toasted, but that is not a huge deal, maybe need a new or more toasters!
Kailee Jones
Excellent food, staff, the outdoor seating was so comfortable and they offer blankets.
Allen Adkins
Excellent breakfast/brunch with lots of options. I went with the simple blueberry pancake option with 🥓 (pepper bacon... excellent) and it was great...nice outdoor patio to enjoy during summer days. A+.
Ravi Rao
Very good lunch menu. I will be back for desert. Parking wow!
Michelle Perez
The earlier you arrive on a weekend, the better! Come before 10am and you won’t have issues waiting. The Swedish pancakes , regular pancakes, and French toast are amazing! Love the fresh fruit bar and pepper bacon as well. Everything is good here!! Favorite weekend routine.
Skip Ferderber
It's a very popular restaurant, lots of people standing outside waiting to be called inside for reservations. It's also very noisy inside. I ordered huevos rancheros and was disappointed. It wasn't what I expected.
Madeleine Higgins
You really can't go wrong anywhere on this menu! It's all good. The best is the toppings bar for waffles, pancakes, etc. Such good fruit jams and compotes. However, their salmon benedict is out of this world. The environment is very classic northwest. Sort of industrial with a little bit of a homey feel. Parking sort of sucks. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant but it is usually full. The service is nice, but they are not very quick at refilling coffee which always throws me off a little. But worth the food!
Dylan A
The food was delicious and the staff was very well spoke and well as courteous. Everything they have is locally sourced and organic. They even have a bunch of gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. On the back of the menus, they proudly display which farms they get their produce and meat from. I would and will go again!
Cindy Fu (YUKIN3K0)
TLDR: there will be a wait. Get the breakfast bar items! Huge proportions!
They take reservations. Calling is best. They don't take reservations on Sunday (at least when I called). Wait time isn't too bad--pretty fast paced.
There is a private parking lot and street parking. Go for the lot first. Street parking has to be paid.
Menu is small but has good variety. Descriptive.
Eight items are available for breakfast bar items--otherwise you can hit the breakfast bar for an additional cost. Sharing costs extra too. Order conservatively. It's dangerously easy to over order.
Service: wait to be seated, order at the table, you'll be watered, if you get a breakfast bar item you can hit that breakfast bar. Sharing breakfast bar items costs extra.
Oatmeal French Toast: they should call this the French Monster. This thing is HUGE. It's a carb monster. 3 slices of toast comes drenched in berry jam and really doesn't need the breakfast bar berries. Sweet and slightly tangy. Bread has a bit of a croissant texture. There are caramelized granola bits in too. Some of the whipped butter is a nice addition though. Tasted great but there was just so much of it-- no room really for any side dishes. This would be a great dish to split with 2 or 3 people and you can order sides to go with it.
Joe's Scramble: comes with potatoes, toast and butter. Sausage is lightly flavored and not too salty--very soft as well. It doesn't have as much scrambled egg as I would like. Potatoes are nicely salted. The slice of toast is pretty hefty as well.
Liberty Aldrich
My family had a wonderful late Sunday brunch here on a Holiday day out. We all 5 ordered something very different and everything was wonderful. I was concerned about coming at the end of the brunch hours but everything was still well supplied, fresh, and amazing. Love the healthy focus and the accommodations of dietary restrictions.
Elliott Hodson
This was one of the first cafes I visited here and it did not disappoint. Despite being packed with people the place did not feel crowded at all and I was able to enjoy my meal easily. I ended up getting a scramble with spinach, mushrooms and chicken apple sausage topped with a delicious grated white cheddar. My cappuccino was served piping hot and the foam was very creamy with a rich espresso taste.
Food here is just divine, the staff were super friendly and attentive. Will be back next time I visit Seattle.
Bonnie Hui
The brunch was wonderful, all the food was presented attractively and tasted good. Our table ordered a variety of items (benedict, farmer's hash, pancake and a gluten free item) and a pitcher of mimosa and we all enjoyed how delicious the food was. The server was very knowledgeable and accommodating to special diet considerations, which was great for our large party.
M Watson
Delicious food, friendly service and reasonable prices for their generous portions! Went with a friend after seeing how busy the restaurant always is (there WILL be a line on the weekends, so make sure you get there at least 30 mins before you're really 'hungry'). Had the bananas foster French toast and bacon, and friend had the seasonal cabbage-hash brisket sandwich with cut potatoes. Both had hot cocoa. Add blueberries, whip cream or nuts from the open breakfast bar, and have a brunch you'll remember for <$20 per person.
Paul Nash
Very pricey for brunch. They're kind of taking advantage of the "chic-ness" of brunch without the atmosphere to back it up. We had to weave between tables, dodging elbows and legs to get to our table. It's very crowded and very loud on the weekends. The food is good, though and the service is even better. The service was a bit surprising. We weren't expecting to have the level of quality service we received due to it being almost over flowing with people, but we were pleasantly surprised.
**EDIT** Going to go ahead and add an extra star to this. Although, yes they are pricey, it has been brought to my attention that the ingredients are locally sourced and organic.
Suzanne Rowley
Great table on the patio for a party of 9. Great server. 1 breakfast got comped because it took forever. Probably went to another table. Food was great. Servings overly large.
Randy Orwin
We ordered the Dungeoness Crab omelette with the heavy greens. Wonderful flavors and cooked to perfection. A bit pricey but well worth the cost. We sat outside on the patio. It was a bit cool but each chair had beautiful, toasty warm, woven blankets. Loved it!
Sam Gao
I ordered this (forgot the name), but it was very salty, to the point where I could finish it after eating the toast.
Steven Beverly
I work for a similarly rated diner in Seattle and this place is 1000x better than my joint. If you have something you don't like, try something else! I haven't been disappointed yet! I always stick to the same thing anywhere else I go, but here, I want to try it all, so I switch it up almost every time (but biscuits and gravy are consistently good, and rotate!)
I absolutely love this place, all locations are friendly and consistent and that's really important in the food industry. Waiters are always attentive and don't rush you. Cheers to all the staff at this location for making my dining experiences here wonderful!
Omnifarious
They are one of the best breakfast places in Seattle, and as such are far far too busy on the weekends. I feel sorry for their staff. I would highly recommend reservations on the weekends.
Their commitment to locally sourced ingredients is commendable and I feel greatly contributes to the high overall quality of their food.
Brendan Carlson
This is a great breakfast place, but is pretty expensive for what you get.
They have a cute Breakfast bar, basically you order pancakes, waffles, or french toast from the menu and then you go the bar and top it off with fresh berries, whip cream and more. They also have other options on the menu.
The coffee is not very good, which kind of ruins the meal for me.

I just love this place! Come enjoy the outdoor dining!
Michael Natkin
Always busy, always popular place, always loud and fun especially for brunch. I find that the standard items, like pancakes, omelets, etc. tend to be more reliable than their more experimental / international dishes. Kids especially love to order items they can customize from the toppings bar. They do a nice job of using local farms and suppliers.
Tracy Cambron
Eggs Benedict with wild mushrooms, my favorite breakfast dish in Seattle. I like this location, it's casual and funky and plenty of parking in back. Outstanding servers!

Good food. A little pricey, but its an all natural, organic type restaurant so I guess you could see that is built into its style. The topping bar for pancakes, french toast etc, is a really concept and has lots of delicious additions. I would recommend for a healthy breakfast. Just be ready to spend a little money.
Javan Wang
Been here three times now, and as far as the taste of the food goes... it's solidly average to mediocre, especially for the price point. The chefs here don't season the food beyond just using salt and pepper.
The point of this cafe isn't to get tasty or well-cooked meals. It's for eating things that make you feel good about yourself eg. organic, fair trade, locally sourced etc etc.
Stephanie Carson
Good breakfast spot featuring sustainable and natural ingredients on the menu. The portions are huge and if you order pancakes or French toast you get to go to the toppings station to load up on berries, fruit and nuts. I got the breakfast burrito, which was delicious, but I had a bite of my husband's pancakes and found them to be dry. The French toast was quite good though.
There is a coffee bar inside so you can get drip or espresso, in addition to a selection of mimosas. There is outdoor seating and in the winter there are heat lamps and blankets. It can get really busy so make a reservation if you can.
It is on the spendy side. Average price for an entree is $14.
Abouzar Kaboudian
Nice food and well prepared. I wish they had fountain drinks!
Jason K.
Fantastic breakfast! I went early on a Wednesday and had no wait then went again on a Sunday morning a week or so later and despite being busy, the service was prompt. Atmosphere was modern and chill. Food was on point and affordable. I live in the area so I look forward to making this one of my go-to spots!
Brian DeVries
Great covered outdoor seating with patio heaters and complimentary lap blankets. Great food, great espresso bar and great service (plus free parking!) Can't go wrong here!
Sneha Malshetti
The food is good but everything my friend was trying to order was not there so he had to settle for a sandwich. The worst part was the waiting . Usually people have a messaging mechanism for getting in queue but here everyone stands out till their name is called out . I mean on a cold day it is a pain . I stood out for an hour n there is no facility for heat outside, even though there were like 20 people waiting outside. So overall I found it ok.
Shemaia
Friendly staff. Typical breakfast fare was decent, but vegan pancakes were mushy and unappetising. Some corners cut such as canned fruit on the waffle bar lowered the value and flavor. Very popular -expect long wait times during typical dining hours.
Christopher Crammond
I've visited Portage Bay several times for weekend brunch, the restaurant has always been crowded (30-45 minute wait) and the food is always great. I especially enjoy ordering pancakes or some of the combo breakfasts that enable you to take a trip to their generous fresh fruit bar.
Pro tip: this is a restaurant that's good for large groups, so I've noticed that sometimes the kitchen can get a little backed up on certain items like the eggs benedict menu items. In fact on my most recent visit, one of the members of my group ordered that and her food didn't arrive until after everyone else is finished their breakfast. On the plus side the waiter made it right and did not charge us for that menu item. It worked out, but it would have been nicer if everyone's meal would have arrived at about the same time.
Mr Wonderful
Meh the service was great but the food was terrible. Crab Benedict tasted like straight up old fish!! The champagne was also flat and watered down with oj.....they could have done better is all I'm saying. I'm sure the food can be good but with all the breakfast places I'm not going back to a spot that's hit and miss.
Aditya Agrawal
Must visit brunch spot in Seattle! Love the french toast and I think they serve the best eggs benedict I have ever had.
Pro tip - find reservation via Yelp before you go as they keep some tables only for reservations. Otherwise expect a 45 mins - 1 hr wait.
Hilary
Absolutely the best breakfast! They actually have their own chicken coops right next door, and you can taste the freshness of the eggs. Yes, it is expensive, but the large portion feeds me for two days. An all time favorite.
Genie Maz
Organic and delicious is the way I like it! One of my favorites for sure!
Michelle Flood
Amazing brunch specials! We had the pumpkin crepes and Ocktoberfest benedict, and everything was amazing. Definitely a clean plate kind of brunch place!
Allen Wyse
Make reservations. We waited 15 mins to be seated with reservations. Worth the wait. Not the best food in Seattle, but still excellent. My banana foster French toast was even delicious microwaved the next day. All the food served was wonderful.
Dave Rukkila
Atmosphere was ok but very loud, service was Awesome!
Connie S.
Great atmosphere and customer service. Ordered a side of the hallah(?) French toast and eggs with chicken sausage, cheddar cheese and spinach. Substituted tomatoes for mushrooms. It was excellent! Also, I love a medium bodied coffee. All they offer is a bold, dark roast. I decided to try it. De-lish! Drank two cups. This is a solid place and I'd recommend it when you are in the area.
Melissa Du
Breakfast/brunch here will be pretty pricey for what you get (my opinion). On the plus, the food is really fresh and tastes really fresh, too! If you want a huge sugar injection to start the day with, then you can order pancakes/french toast and get access to an unlimited amount of fresh berries and whipped cream.
Though it's crowded, you'll usually be seated pretty fast - either that, or I've been lucky, but of the 4 times that I've been here, I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated even though there's always a huge amount of people.
Montgomery Standefer
We got a reservation and got seated as soon as we got there. It was a crowded Saturday afternoon and folks do not stop pouring in.The banana foster french toast is to die for... so I highly recommend! Nice thick toast with lots of flavor and not too sweet. Add some fruits and whipped cream and you got yourself a piece of heaven. The eggs benedicts are good as well and hollandaise sauce tastes fresh. Their spicy sauce goes well with the potatoes.
Daniel D. Akerele
Really like the place. There is heater outside
Dustin Campbell
Very good! We came in with our two girls and had a delicious breakfast. The girls both ordered benedicts (dungeness crab cake and "Seattle"), my wife had the salmon tartine (one of the specials), and I had "Joe's Scramble". All were fantastic and made from organic locally sourced ingredients. They also had hot apple cider drinks, which were perfect in the February weather.
On the negative side, it can get pretty noisy. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy a contemplative breakfast, this probably isn't it. Also, it's probably best to make a reservation on Yelp to avoid seating issues. Finally, it is definitely a bit on the pricey side, so set your expectations appropriately.
Ray Castillo Jr.
The food here is good but not great. There isn't an uniqueness to the food. It's just your ordinary breakfast food. Everything is organic and the eggs are literally from their own backyard which shows in the price. If you're going on weekend be prepared to wait. The service is fast and the people are nice.
Cyrus Fung
It's been a while since I've been here. I got the rancher's breakfast which includes 3 eggs cooked to order, choice of meat (I chose the pork loin), a side of roast potatoes, and two large pancakes.
Let's start with the good. Service was quick, and friendly. No complaints there as it was busy as always. Pancakes were flavorful and not dry at all. I really dig the pancake bar though I wish there was a little more variety.
The not so good. The pork loin was pretty mediocre. Tough, and weirdly seasoned. Tasted more like a peppery herb garden than anything else. At the very least it was cooked through so I can't complain about it too much. The potatoes were very disappointing. They were dry and flavorless while still being a tad too salty. It was a struggle to finish them, but my mother didn't raise a quitter. Same thing. Tasted like a dry herbal garden with table salt sprinkled over the top. Strangely enough they look crispy but are not at all.
All in all I'd call this a really mediocre meal. Again I have no complaints about the service, but the food I found pretty lacking.
Jason Hays
I love love love this gem! Not only is the food and service always above-par, everything they offer is organic and/or locally soursed. Even down to the hot sauce on the table. I love going for the extensive gluten free breakfast items! You can request dishes to be either gluten free, or vegan. Even enjoy a fresh fruit bar to smother on your pancakes or french toast. Definitely one of the "musts" of your Seattle food experience!
Kayli Robles
Amazing food! Really pricey, but I have to say the food is worth every single penny. Really large portion sizes, also. I always have to take some home. Staff is good too, but when you go here (especially during breakfast) you have to expect it to be really busy. I've never waited less than 25 minutes. It's worth it, in my opinion.
Jacob P (Coby)
Believe the hyped, at this particular location. The fruit bar for pancakes and French Toast is amazing. Fresh fruit and nuts. I had the Huevos Rancheros very good take on it. Not enough beans but the tortillas were crispy to perfection. Their potatoes were awesome as well. Coffee wasn't sure if it was strong or burnt or maybe a combination of both. Just keep that in mind. Highly recommend this location though being near the University it gets crowded. So arrive early or know you will have to wait.
Daniel Bernard
So I lucked out on the wait on a Saturday morning and sat at the window. No complaints on the wait.
Now the food. Woo! Their Migas are great and the pancakes are delicious. I would definitely recommend. It's a little pricey but worth every penny.
Kris Rose
I have been here several times and never had a bad meal. Their tagline is "eat like you give a damn" and it shows. The menu is especially good for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices - really, something for everyone. On occasion I have stopped in on days where only breakfast was served, but since their breakfasts are awesome that's not much of a problem. When the weather is good they do have outside seating, but be prepared to wait if you go a peak hours as they are a popular eating spot (despite the distance from the main UW campus). The only thing that knocks off a star is service is sometimes a bit slow, and professional but not terribly personable.
Phil
Great food! Great service!
I have been here over 10 times, and continue to come back even though I am no longer a student at the U.
I mostly enjoy their fruit bar and the bananas fosters french toast. Great stuff.
Definitely an above average experience, so it is priced accordingly.
Indigo Doll
I cannot express the love I have for portage bay cafe. There is often a wait for brunch, but well worth it! I love that they are sustainably sourced and all of their food is delicious. Highly recommend the orange juice.
If you're there, stop by their farm a few doors down to visit some cute animals!
Richard Hughes
Insanely popular, I advise you to book a table, which will help....a bit...The food is local and well crafted. My wife and I are mid keto and found some super tasty omlettes. My daughter could not finish the french toast, given how covered it was by all the trimmings from the breakfast bar. All in all not cheap, but not too overpriced, and walking distance from the dorms. We will be back I'm sure.
Lauren Rex
Delicious food, great coffee, and fast service!
Joy Orona
Disappointed with lack of attention paid to Gluten sensitivity. Server was clear on the GF order, but my son was served regular French Toast, and no one checked on us for 8 minutes when my intuition had him wait. Then it took another 15 before they brought out the GF serving. Only discount was not charging the $1 upgrade to GF.
Michael Devaney
This is my wife's favorite breakfast joint. I went there for the first time recently and was impressed. Fresh organic ingredients, interesting combinations and a lot to choose from. She had lemon ricotta french toast w the fruit bar. I had rice porridge w an egg, greens and a touch of miso. She loved hers and I loved mine. The waitress was friendly and checked in with us as needed. We sat outside which I recommend if the inside gets too noisy.
Anna Burkatovsky
Portions are huge as a fair warning. If you are not crazy hungry, consider sharing a dish. Reservations are recommended. I ordered the breakfast burrito and my friend got the pancakes for the breakfast bar-- both were great.
Kristy Sivits
Ok we have heard good things about this place so we gave it a try. We had brunch and a wait.. A long wait for a seat and a long wait for the food. Maybe we should have made a reservation. I went with Eggs Benedict, which I just learned I loved on a cruise a month ago. Boy was I disappointed. Maybe it was that they put meat (smoked pork) on it instead of on the side. I didn’t care for the taste and my poached egg was hard cooked instead of with a nice creamy yoke. Was I suppose to say I wanted it cooked differently (?) Again I only learned I loved it a month ago and was excited to have it again. My husband got the Oatmeal Encrusted French Toast with blueberry syrup. It was a generous portion and he enjoyed it as did I. We switched half way between our meals to share the experience. When the bill came and it was 45 bucks I thought humm..did I really just pay that much money for a breakfast I didn’t like boo. And was my orange juice really freshly squeezed?, because I see them making mimosas with juice I buy at the grocery. Well this is a huge city so I will keep looking for my new favorite brunch food else where. To bad I only live a block from somewhere I thought might be awesome lol.
Darryn Gilliam
I truly enjoyed my dungeness crab omelette and the home fries were cooked to perfection.
Jacob Sexton
If you can make it here when it's not packed to the brim, you're in for a treat, as the food is exceptional and with fast friendly service you'll be eating your meal in less than 15 minutes after ordering. Great brunch menu, highly recommend.
Melody McMillan
The berry bar, oatmeal, and crepes are favorites but the burrito was a surprisingly delicious option. We probably wouldn’t have tried it but we were famished after kayaking and needed something heftier. The burrito was huge (easily enough for 2 people) and had a great flavor combination. No extra salsa needed. Glad we tried a new (to us) menu item!
Ashley C
Always bustling Portage Bay Cafe is a prime place for brunch in Seattle. Love the use of fresh, organic ingredients and creative specials. Yesterday I ordered the Punxsutawney omelette - with chicken, goat brie and pecans - it was tasty but I wish there was more brie flavor.
One note is that reservations are required and really are more of a way to get you into the line to be seated. A bit of a bummer as you show up hungry and excited to eat and then still have to wait 10-15 minutes for a table, despite having a reservation. Luckily this place is worth the wait and it's certainly an improvement from the old days where you had to wait 30+ minutes before being seated.
Sethrina Ng
Would definitely come here again!
Nithin Paul
A good place to hangout for an elaborate breakfast
Brittney Oden
The food is great and the staff is amazing. It’s well worth the price. We’re traveling from out of state and asked our waiter if he knew any trails. He took the time to write several down for us and told us a quick tidbit about each one.
hms 22
Great staff, great service. The smoked salmon benedict was the bomb. Wish I had ordered it. I was super disappointed in the Swedish pancakes --raving reviews about them were the reason I even chose to eat here. They were cold, hard and chewy, & the spicing was odd. Our server was really nice & understanding. Definitely would return for the smoked salmon benedict.
CJ Berg
Bananas Foster French Toast was amazing 👍 …
Christopher Goatley
Good breakfasts and coffee in this huge bustling cafe/restaurant. I had the Seattle Benedict, which had large chunks of Dungeness crab, avocado, arugula and really good hollandaise. Well recommended.
Patrick Dugan
One of my all time favorite cafes ever! The lines are almost always long so prepare for a wait, but the food is literally out of this world. I'd recommend something like the pancakes or oatmeal so you can snag a trip to the unlimited berry bar. The coffee is strong, the food is superb, and the service is quick and pleasant.
Liz Wilson
The best breakfast spot! Absolutely LOVE the fruit bar. Farmers breakfast can feed me for two days!! Have always had great tasting and well presented meals. Very pleased they accept reservations now too!
Roxana Haymeé Ramírez Bustillos
AMAZING FOOD! Wait time totally worth it.
Abby St. Hilaire
Love this place so much we had our wedding reception here! It is the best place to linger over breakfast. Certain entrees come with a trip to the toppings bar (miles of fresh fruit!), which I've never seen anywhere else. Hard to get much under $12 a person, not so easy on the wallet.
Mr. M. Mitchell
First time going here, was Friendly and Cozy !! Food was Good but the Waitress was a little Too busy or inattentive to get refill on Coffee and Water and Condiments other was Good 😁
Susan Jacobs
Endless cup of coffee, lots of outside seating and amazingly fresh food and great staff! A real find in the heart of the U district, a great place to meet up with old friends or a new date.
Chris Molenda
Great food and a fabulous fruit bar! Service was good considering we had a group of 12. The noise was loud which made it difficult to visit with people and it's a crowded place. So expect lots of people and the noise. If you're OK with that the food has always been good.
Katrina Lee
Portage Bay is always a great spot for brunch with friends. Food is generally always really good too. They have a great "fruit" bar for fresh fruit toppings on certain meal choices. Pancakes are fantastic. I got the PBC Benedict this time... it the Benedict choice for those that cant choose! Has a sampler of 3 of the (about 6) different Benedict choices they have. I would say, I wasnt overly impressed this time. Maybe I just need to choose one and stick with it. This was plenty of food, but didnt feel like a meal at the same time (no side). Still enjoyed the experience and the staff was nice as they always are!
Ian Fink
Excellent breakfast/brunch food with a nice wide variety of locally-sourced extremely high quality foods, all of which are well worth the long wait to get in. If you come here for Sunday brunch, expect to hover for a while even with a reservation. They're always packed for good reason.
Kevin Nelson
Great breakfast. You know it's going to be good just because of the lines this place draws every weekend morning. They do try and accommodate you with provided coffee in the line.
As for the food, I've never had anything bad here. If you like breakfast, go here.
moe evans
Nice choices! Unique menu items! Awesome fruit bar! Loved our server and hopefully her knee boo boo heals up soon!
Keli Staten
Brunch here was amazing! Definitely recommend the Bananas Foster French Toast and a mimosa! It does get noisy inside with lots of overlapping conversations and dishes clanking, but not unbearable. Gets very crowded on weekends, so make reservations for sure!
Mackenzie Brisben
Nice heated tents with blankets! I had an americano and the chorizo verde burrito. So but it’s two meals and very good. I appreciate the hot sauces too. Only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is their coffee is meh.
Chuck Bjork
Good natural food at a fair price. They have some things you don't see every day (I.e. Swedish pancakes, toppings bar) and the quality of the food is good. We got there as they opened at 7:30 am on a Sunday at the Terry Avenue location. We got right in, but the single, large room started to fill up quickly and was pretty noisy with the bustle of patrons. Our breakfast bill was about $35 for two people. Likely will go back again tomorrow!
Courtney Beaugendre
I actually like the menu here but execution can sometimes be off. I also think it’s way over hyped for the price and the wait that’s always required to get in.
Ryan Chiang
I remember hitting this spot all the time 10 years ago in college. The owner was always there and the food was amazing. As they've grown, the food has also changed. It is still good, but not GREAT. Would still go back, but the size of the restaurant (all included) has been a factor in 5 vs 4 star food.
Michael Bishton
Four of us each purchased different breakfast items. Everything was locally sourced, fresh and very tasty with herbs and spices. Nothing tasted plain. Everything on the fruit bar was quality. They had a conferred patio where we could eat with our dog.
Julieta Acevedo Correa
The dishes are delicious and well made but definitely overpriced. The staff is kind but somewhat sloppy. My waitress kept splashing me with water and coffee every time I got a refill. There was a noticeable burnt smell in the dining area. I don't think it's worth the wait.
barry kornegay
Brought my family here after picking them up at the airport. My wife wanted something small since she recently ate on the plane and asked for the kids meal pancake, the waitress said kids menu items can only be ordered for kids, which was strange since it's just smaller portions, so she orders the regular pancake for twice as much and sure enough, we leave with over half of two plate sized pancakes left on the plate. Good food but instead of a kids menu they should have a smaller portions menu so people don't have to waste money and food.
Dan K
Despite what my friend says, this location wasn't "better," but, as equally fantastic as the other locations. Food is soooo delicious and definitely one of the best spots for brunch. 😋😎 …
Rodney Chan
Saw lots of rave reviews and line outside was reflective of this. Had a reservation made ahead of time and was able to jump to front of line. Food was good. Should wait for a fresh batch of fruit to put on the french toast. Coffee not so good.
Bethany Luck-Hutson
All the food we had was incredible (French Toast, Biscuits & Gravy with Scrambled Eggs, and Huevos Rancheros)! Service was also wonderful. Make a reservation for brunch - it's a super popular place and will be a wait if you don't.
marium iftikhar
We showed up without reservation and there a 45 minute wait on a Saturday but the food was totally worth it! Ordered the Seattle Benedict and boy it was good! Delightful flavors and fresh ingredients.
Michael Roberto
Everything is free-range, organic, ethical, and as a result, delicious and pricey The french toast and pancake options are absolutely fantastic and include a trip to the toppings bar where you load up on fruits and other toppings. Overall a very positive experience. Protip: you can call ahead to get on the waiting list. It's not the same as a reservation, but it's your best option.
Jared McMeen
Service: excellent, courteous and smooth but also polite and formal. Efficient and practiced staff. Food: awesome - the buckwheat pancakes were flavorful, the fruit bar was impressive, and the migas was flavorful and rich. Environment: Pretty loud, but it was quite busy so that's hard to avoid. Staff also came in and out of an exterior door near our table, so we got some cold drafts but nothing terrible. There are two seating areas on either side of the kitchen, it looked like the other (larger) was a little more isolated and quiet. Don't normally write reviews but was very pleased with this place.
Veronica Parkes
Really delicious local food! When we arrived there was a huge group of people out front and we were worried the wait would be too long, but we got in within fifteen minutes. Our food can very quickly and the waitress was very nice.
Chelsea Snodgrass
Great breakfasts/brunch. Huge pancakes with an all you can eat toppings bar with so much wonderful fresh fruit and additional toppings. Also very good egg dishes. Slow service because of how busy they get there.
Frankie Fu
Excellent brunch place!
This place is one of the best brunch places I’ve been to in Seattle so far,I come from nyc and places like portage bay cafe is definitely a go to restaurant in any city in the U.S.
Pros:
-Delicious food
- local grown ingredients
- fair price
- vegan friendly
Cons:
- the wait time is kind of annoying it usually takes from 30mins to 1hr
- the speed of serving food is relatively slow but given that they are always busy I’d say their service is still great.
- there’s no place to sit while waiting.
David Dixon
I enjoyed the brunch and their food was delicious. When you sit out on the patio and it is packed, you may have a hard time getting to the toppings bar. So we went without using those options. The food was still delicious and the patio was totally worth it for the nice day we had!
patricia stead
Pancakes burned that was not acceptable for the price that the café charge. According with the Manager people like burned pancakes. That is stupid.
My English muffin it was a mini piece of bread. My coffee was cold right away.
The waitress Tisa C was rude, no Customer Service skills. She was nice when she brought the bill to my table for $114.50
An extra drink was added to my bill so, be careful.

I am a big fan of portage Bay Café and I know all the locations very well. I have to say that they are all great except for the Roosevelt location to the point that I avoid coming to this location even if is the closest one. For some reason the portions tend to be smaller than in the other locations and the salads are different but not in a good way. This has been a consistent observation. Other than that, the food tastes great. Service is good for the most part. My 3 rating is for the Roosevelt location. I would give 5 to the other ones. Definitely the best place for a brunch and for someone on a ketogenic or low carb diet. No guilty feeling in eating tasty high protein food choices.
Kath Youell
Loved this place so much when I went on a Saturday morning that a changed the next day's burch location with my dad to here. Yum! Lovely people working there too. Despite the fact that Sunday was crazily crowded compared to Saturday (make reservations, you won't be sorry) we still had great service. I intended on staying in the area next time I visit Seattle just so I can eat here.
No wifi though, so bring a book or charge up your phone if you're alone.
Anthony Marhanka
Food is alright, was definitely deceived by the menu. They boast about using organic eggs in all their egg dishes but when I ordered my eggs scrambled they were all one color...upon asking it turns out they don’t use actual shell eggs for scrambled eggs. Disappointed especially when their slogan is “eat like you give a damn”. If you did, you’d serve real eggs
GY Lim
Incredible food, slightly pricier than average but well worth the money. If you're planning to come here on a weekend would recommend calling ahead else there's usually a wait.
Brenden Bonnett
It was good. Busy Busy on a Friday afternoon but still good. Big portions, lots of seating didn't have to wait for a table. There was a heavy metal door that was being used by servers & busers that kept slamming as we dined in the middle section of the restaurant. But all in all, good!
Beth
I went early on a Saturday morning and found this to be a cozy breakfast place. My buckwheat pancakes were slightly dry but came with delicious creamy ginger butter. On my way out, though, I found the group of people waiting to get in to be disproportionate to the tastiness of the food. Or maybe I'm just too hungry in the mornings to appreciate any food that I have to wait a long time for.
Gary Medeiros
Cold place (everyone kept going outside, and everytime they opened the door, cold 42° air would rush into the restaurant. Constant cold crazy on the back). Great food (natural choices from sustainable local farms and businesses. Had the hash bowl, the vegetable mix was so refreshing that it was a lot to tackle. Vegetarian choice of eggs, vegan is with tofu. Though the are just choices, vegan was my choice)
Henry Walker
Some of the best brunch and the pricing is reasonable. I had their famous French toast and will certainly be coming back to Portage Bay. Great for groups who want an easy and delicious brunch. The quality of food and service was great as well.
Harry Smith
I first found this wonderful place in 2010 while I lived across the street awaiting a liver transplant. I received my life-saving gift, and for 2 months continued to frequent this establishment. Everytime, outstanding service and incredible food. I now return to Seattle yearly for a medical checkup, and to "eat like I give a damn" here. As always, it is fantastic by every measure. I give back when I'm there the only way I know how, with a tip that equals or exceeds the bill. It's the least I can do for the outstanding staff that turned the worst time of my life into something memorable for very uplifting, joyous reasons! Thanks, see you next year!!
Saif Al-Alawi
A bit pricey but that's what happens when you order mimosas by the pitcher. I was pleased overall with everything considering there was a morning rush and we were somehow sat within minutes of arriving. I could tell as the morning went on that our table was extremely valuable as the line accumulated with people outside. Parking around the area of course is atrocious but what do you expect in Seattle.
Jeffery Coe
Prices are fair for their spread of locally-sourced + organic dishes, but not everything is a winner. For the five-star experience, skip the sandwiches and go straight for the Migas and an item from the breakfast bar, then share so that everyone gets berries and cream galore. If you're there for brunch, the Huevos Rancheros and the huge Green Mole Burrito are also hits, and you can't go wrong with egg dishes.
Adam Arabian
Our 8 year old daughter says awesome munch munch. My gluten free wife loves the buckwheat pancakes. Just stuffed myself on the excellent and fresh locovore friendly farmers scramble. One of the best breakfast places in Seattle and always satisfying.
Marissa Bruno
Portage Bay is a delicious brunch place that has consistently good food. The service tends to be rushed and their isn't much interaction - this may be due to the fact that it is so busy. I know there are already three different locations but it feels like they need to open a fourth because it is just way to darn busy in there. The food is good - but nothing really stands out for me aside from the breakfast fruit bar and the variety of eggs benedict available.
Bob
Great brunch with horrible crowds. Reservations are a must. Make sure the online reservation is for the correct restaurant. The online reservation system sometimes sends you to a different location.
If you order an item that contains cooked veggies, be careful it's sometimes raw. Raw potatoes and onions in hash is nasty. Cheers.
Justin Vice
This place poaches eggs perfectly, along with brilliant egg dishes in general. The sweet side of breakfast has a great fresh fruit and other toppings bar to create your perfect morning sweets overload. Pretty good coffee too.
Trina Benson
I really wanted to love portage bay. I love the concept of this restaurant. Unfortunately it just wasn't that good. I ordered eggs benedict. The eggs were overcooked and the english muffins seemed stale. I could hardly get through them with a knife. It is possible I ordered the wrong dish, but for the large amount of money they charge for their breakfast, I should be able to order anything on the menu and expect it to be cooked properly and for it to taste good.
Lucas Lin
Just want to start by saying their french toast + fresh fruit bar was to DIE FOR. Literally the best french toast we have had in our lives. The caramel sauciness was DELICIOUS. Their salads were pretty okay.
S.P. Dudley
Amazing breakfast hidden away on the U District. Everyone can find something they will like here. Parking is a bit slim and the fill up quick, but they get you your food and out of there quick.
Zachary Bullock
First timer, packed to the brim. Single breakfast goer, and the barista came over and greeted me after sitting down. Couldn't to notice the food around me. Presentation is outstanding. The build you own waffle French toast bar floored me. To be continued.
Kevin Burns
Portage Bay is a fantastic place for breakfast/brunch. It can be a little expensive for breakfast food, but everything on their menu tastes fantastic. Watch out for long lines on the weekends. You can ignore the weekend rush by making reservations via Yelp? online a day or two in advance.
Julia King
Pretty awesome food! I looooove the berry bar! I just wish they still had porridge on the menu. The eggs benedict are also fantastic. Overall, eggs and griddle things are all superb!
Amanda Hanes
The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff made us feel very comfortable and welcome. Despite it being busy, they were attentive and always at the ready with more coffee (which was also fantastic).
Tejas Raj
The breakfast bar is awesome! Highly recommend it with the farmers breakfast

Too much hype. I ordered the crab and avacado toast, and the banana French toast. The crab, avacado toast was so uninspiring, and plain. It was not worth $17. You get a very small pinch of crab and a quarter slice of avacado on some toast. The salad in the middle was just some spring mix. Very regrettable, and forgettable. Big waste if money. The banana French toast was enjoyable. It's very large and the fruit bar is fun to use, as it allows you to customize the additional fruits in your pancakes/toast.
Crab and avacado toast, 1/5
Banana French toast, 5/5
Coffee, 3/5 (they had some milk upon request)
The joint was pretty busy Sunday morning. Had a 15 minute wait. Food wait to was decent. Service was good. I would not come back.

What an amazing breakfast! One of us ordered the waffles with the buffet style spread of fresh fruit and lots of other toppings. She ordered an egg dish that was perfectly done.

Fantastic healthy breakfast, great espresso. Really fun atmosphere with mini urban farm adjacent. Hearty portions if you're a big eater.

Food was amazing with great specials. The staff was wonderful, cheerful and happy. The "bar" which had topping for various things on the menu rocked. I would suggest the Benedicts because they were amazing.

Seriously, I thought I was in heaven!!
On the last day of our stay at the Watertown Hotel (GREAT hotel!) we walked down here for breakfast around 8:30am on a Wednesday. No problem getting seated or served. We ordered the Dungeness crabcakes benedict and the cinnamon twister french toast. Oh I can't express how yummy each of these was! The service was attentive but not overbearing and the coffee was excellent. I may have to move to Seattle just to be closer to this restaurant. Added bonus was that everything was fair trade, organic and sustainable. Wow! Prices reflect the high quality of this establishments food.

Omg. I would give this more stars if I could. I had a semi religious experience eating here. My wife and kids have decided that everytime we are in the Seattle area we will go here. Can not explain how good this place is. You have to try it.

Great —as long as you go and eat in person. The delivery orders are not the same. This may be a place that doesn’t love delivery services, because it’s marvelous in person and horrid through ubereats and postmates.

Being an avid listener of 98.5 FM (Seattle's EDM Station), I was already familiar with the name of the well-advertised restaurant. What called to me was the promise of honest, local food.
The scene: I met my friends at the Roosevelt location around 11:30am. There was a small parking lot behind it, which was almost full and very helpful. Walking inside, you notice dining areas on either aide of the cashier station, and LOTS of people! The manager walked around furtively but pleasantly, ensuring everyone was seated promptly. I only waited about 6-7 minutes which was super fast! However, it did take about 10-12 minutes before we were greeted.
The menu: I was informed the week menu was less extensive than the weekend one, but I found there to be lots of yummy variety anyway! It's broken down by regular dishes, and dishes which can be enhanced with a visit to the "breakfast bar" (bowls of peaches, strawberries--which sadly were not fresh-- blueberries, blackberries, brown sugar, nuts margarine, and whipped cream).
The food: We ordered a pitcher of mimosa 😛 for the table (you have fruit juice options but we went with the classic OJ), and I ordered the Vegan Banana pancakes. Unfortunately, they were on the cajun side of overdone, but still good. The breakfast bar helped with that. Other selections made at the table were the Huevos Rancheros, and the Po Boy. Both were met with smiling faces and happy tummies. All in all not a bad place at which to eat. I would DEF recommend getting in early because it sounds like this place is always packed!!

Locally-sourced, sustainable breakfast cafe that seemingly specializes in pancakes, french toast, and eggs benedict. Breakfast bar is fulled with fresh fruits and other delicious toppings - while expensive ($9) as an add-on, many items come with a complimentary visit. Evolution Fresh juices, exclusively-brewed coffee, or specialty mimosas complete a refreshingly wholesome breakfast here.

Make reservations before you leave the house! Saturday morning brunch here is always jam packed. That being said, they do offer drinks like coffee and espresso to people waiting for a table if you forget to reserve seating. One of my favorite things about Portage Bay is they serve local organic and sustainable foods, which is commendable. This location is just off the Ave in U District, down Roosevelt, and has a fun outside seating area with Mexican blankets on the backs of the chairs.

Excellent service and tasted food .

Fantastic place for breakfast! Everything is so fresh and organic; there is an egg farm right next door. Also, there is a toppings bar for pancakes and French toast. This sustainable restaurant should be a model for all!!

First time in, I didn't enjoy this experience.
The waitress was INDELICATE and LOUD.
The OATMEAL dish was satisfying and hearty.
The GRANOLA was served with almost NO YOGURT and to make it even more miserable - in a JAR! for crying out loud!
Only ONE dessert was offered.

Awesome food and flavors! Couldn't stop eating. Love the waffle/pancake topping bar. Rosemary breakfast potatoes! Yummy! The coffee was also delicious!

I love the food here and the smells are just wonderful fresh ingredients. Had to drop a star though for the server's attitude. She was just snooty and acted as though we were putting her out by her just doing her job. She thought she was high and mighty by not writing things down and then forgets them. Not impressed.

Portage Bay is the best breakfast place in Seattle. They have an amazing menu that caters to gluten free folk. I felt safe eating here with celiac. The servers are super helpful. Their berry bar for pancake and waffles is amazing.

I've been wanting to try this place for some time and so when I was just around the corner helping a friend move, we decided to give it a try. We came in at about 2pm on a Saturday. The employees didn't give us much direction about where to go when we first walked in and initially we lingered around the coffee bar part and it wasn't until we reached out that they helped us. In my experience, anytime someone tries a new restaurant, they aren't going to know how things work and they'll need some direction. My friend had to use the restroom and someone was using it for over 10 minutes and when he asked the guy in the stall if he can hurry because people were waiting, the guy was rude to him and asked him what his problem was. We then were told we could take a seat by the window. My friend then had to leave and go down the block to use the restroom. The waitress came by and asked if I was waiting for someone and I said my friend was using the restroom. A few minutes later, she came back and said that she didn't know if anyone told me, but they closed at 2:30. I said nobody had told me. This goes along with not getting too much direction when we entered. I said I would just leave because I wasn't sure if he would be back in time since he had to leave to use the restroom. I told the waitress that it was alright and that we would just go somewhere else instead, but as I stood up to leave she just stared at me like I was offending her and made it really awkward and uncomfortable, when really I was just tired from moving furniture up flights of stairs and hungry and wanted to eat as soon as possible and this cafe was right around the corner. The waitress kept insisting that there was still 8 minutes left and I didn't have to leave and maybe he would be back, but that made it more awkward and I didn't want to stick around those 8 minutes after the awkward encounter, only to be turned away if he didn't come back in time. I figured we would just go to the Pineapple Cafe up the street. As I got to the end of the block, he was coming down and we decided it wasn't worth it to go back and order because it was awkward not getting much help from the staff. My friend manages a restaurant in Magnolia, so I was glad that I wasn't the only one who felt the encounters with the staff were awkward. I was there around 20 minutes and only a few sentences were said by the staff to either of us. If the waitress had waited until 5 minutes before they closed to tell us that they were closing at 2:30, my friend would have been back and we would have ordered something by then as I already had time to look through the menu and knew what I wanted to order. I'm sure the food is good, but I never tried it because I left. The staff really didn't do much to make us feel welcome on our first visit, beside the guy who brought us water without us asking after we finally found our seats, and we had no direction about the menu or if we just got our own seats or waited to be taken to a table. Even though only brunch is served on the weekend, there was a lunch special with the menu at the coffee bar that we were looking at while waiting for the bathroom stall to open up. My friend inquired about the rheuben, and it got awkward when they said we shouldn't have that menu with the breakfast menu and they only did brunch on weekends. I also got the feeling like I was being rushed to order with almost 10 minutes to spare so the staff didn't have to stay longer and it felt really uncomfortable. I've been in their position before when you just want to go home as soon as possible, but being on the other side, feeling rushed made it feel like I was inconveniencing the staff by waiting for my friend to use the restroom before ordering. If I ever decide to go to the Portage Bay Cafe again, I'll go to the one on 65th. Hopefully they would make newcomers feel more welcome.

It’s not easy to have delicious and innovative dishes for brunch. The best American brunch restaurant in Seattle. They also do a fantastic job at managing such a busy venue.

Eat like you give a damn! That's what all their employee's shirt says... and yes, these portions are INSANE! Delicious, regardless. Get an entree per person and you've almost got a second full brunch to take home later. I'd willingly taking a trip from Bellevue to here and then wait for another 45 minutes for their benedict. Not a lot of places can get me waitin.

I love brunch at Portage Bay, whether it’s at this location or the few others. Almost anything I’ve tried on the menu was really good. It’s all local and organic so you know it’s going to be great!

Loved it! First time eating out in over a year. Everything was delicious, service was amazing, lovely setting. Free parking. Can’t wait to go back.

Amazing service, amazing food, and an amazing venue. There's not much more to want from a cafe restaurant. The service was truly awesome and we got to sit outside in a heated area with blankets! Be sure to try the berry bar if you go, it's phenomenal.

My fav place for quality Brunch. The food was tasty. I'll return with my relatives. The bill won't shock you. Atmosphere is similar to a place in Columbus I loved.
