Great dinner! We went there with friend’s recommendation for a celebration and it didn’t disappoint. Seasonal menu’s on-point and their infamous truffle risotto was a must. We hadn’t had a luck for last 6mos or so finding a restaurant worth paying for, and they were definitely worth it!! Cozy and elegant atmosphere, great service, and AMAZING food. Definitely will be back for more.

Very unique experience, Chef Kawai (the owner) really put a lot of creativity into each dish. Ingredients and dishes are seasonal and even the most unexpected combinations taste amazing!
Lots of cars in the area, so street parking might be hard to find. The entrance faces the street and the restaurant name is on the door, so it's not very hard to locate.
With the unique creativity and seasonal ingredients, it is definitely worth visiting throughout the year!

New Year's Eve Dinner last night. Wonderful tasting menu. Well composed with a balanced range of flavors, portion sizes were generous, black truffle add-on was reasonably priced, and the desert is one of my favorites because it was light, not too sweet, refreshing and well composed to the eye. Finally, the price to value for this meal was the tops in Seattle. We surveyed the various tasting menus for the New Year and none came in at a better value. Oh yea, don't forget the killer views of the city. Iconiq is located in the Mt Baker neighborhood so it's a bit off the beaten path but I would recommend it strongly.

I hesitate to leave this review for fear that a hidden gem will be revealed to too many. The fusion between Japanese flavors and French technique and process has ruined my palate in all of the right ways! A glass of Roche Noir was enhanced between each and every bite.
The baguette was delicate and set up the tender care that each forthcoming dish had to offer.
As a starter we began with the Compressed Watermelon Salad, a superb blend of watermelon, cucumber, arugula, goat cheese and croutons. The intention of the saltiness of the croutons complimented the sweet watermelon so well.
Now…let this be a warning, the flavors of the Neah Bay Patrale Sole Meunière and Oregon Rib Eye Wasabi Herb Butter walked a fine line between sustenance, culinary art, and sinful pleasure. IYKYK.
Each bite was a delight with the final dish of the night. The Peach Melba dessert.
The care and time that Chef Kawai and his Sous Chef put into his dishes creates an experience that anyone who enjoys food must try.
We sat at the bar with a view…a special little place that the chef called his favorite seat in the restaurant.
Thank you, Chef. I will return.

Ordered 3 out of the five main courses available that day, and none of them made me want to come back again. We ordered the fillet mignon, iberico pluma, and foie gras risotto along with the lavender ice cream dessert.
I would say the dessert tasted the best out of all of them, the yogurt under the ice-cream is pretty tasty, but the ice-cream as a whole didn’t amaze me.
The iberico pluma had good texture, but the sauce and the veggie on the side did not complement it.
The prime beef fillet mignon was cooked well, but the beef itself has an unusual initial taste. The tastsuta-age sweetbread actually tastes better than the prime beef in my opinion. Had one bite of the shepherd’s pie and did not like it at all.
The foie gras risotto tastes okay. The risotto is pretty bland without the foie gras, and a bit heavy with it. I would’ve happily just had the foie gras by itself without the risotto.
To be fair we didn’t order any starters/appetizers, so maybe the starters actually do the rating justice. I’m just a little disappointed considering the price isn’t cheap.

Great views and although the menu seems limited, everything we tried was fantastic. Very original and delicious offerings!!

Foie gras risotto is beyond amazing, as in I don't have the right words to describe my experience. The Filet Mignon was one of the best steak I've tried this year, and the fried Sweetbread was an interesting combo. Last but not least, the Burgundy Truffle Ice Cream was the perfect way to wrap up the meal.
Skip the appetizers and order 3 entrees to share!
I can't wait to come back for the foie gras risotto again...soon!!

Wowww the food is amazingly delicious and gorgeous! Very creative dishes and good taste! I love the creativity and thought chef put into the food, very impressive! Definitely will come back!

Chef Kawai provides an awesome experience at his restaurant with friendly service and outstanding dishes. I recommend making a reservation for a date night and get a window seat at sunset to watch the sun go down over Puget Sound/Downtown while you drink a glass of wine.
I have gone here three times now and enjoy the seasonal menu every time. This last time I went, I tried the Pork Belly confit and it was the most tender and well balanced pork dish I've ever had. Also there was a black truffle risotto that was so flavorful! I love the combination of French dishes with Japanese influence. It makes room for so many possibilities every time I come here.

This is a great restaurant. The chef is an artist. Presentations are beautiful. Flavors are deep, pure. I admire the chef's commitment to his craft and the integrity with which he treats the ingredients that he works with. I look forward to my next visit.

Great restaurant in a quiet place. The restaurant has 6-7 tables with a sunset view.
Food is totally depends on the menu you got. Sometimes it just great, but we ordered 2 entrees and felt just in average. The salmon appetizer is the best and must try.
Drink is a little bit expensive and they seldom serves by glasses.

I was fascinated! I didn’t expect the dishes would be SOOOOO good! Iconiq is now my favorite restaurant in Seattle.
Chef and Owner Toshi made sure that we could get seated in the dining room since we called to ask the day before. Although I told him it was okay for us to remain in the front room since the restaurant was full that night, Toshi-San insisted to change tables for us after we enjoyed our Starters.
We ordered soy-onion gratin soup and crispy Spanish octopus for starters. The onion soup was so creamy and cheesy, it was literally the best onion soup I have ever had. I do not like onion soup before but this made me started to enjoy it, amazing!
The octopus was my favorite dish of the night. It was so crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. We were so amazed by the taste, it actually tasted like crab! Sadly the portion was a bit small, I wanted more! Toshi-San told us this dish took more than 3 hours to marinate and prepare, such delicate work!
For the Mains, we ordered saikyo-yaki foie gras risotto and salmon confit. The salmon tasted good, the sauce was a special one. But it was relatively ordinary and I will try another main dish next time. The foie gras risotto was SUPERB! My husband cannot stop praising it afterwards and said he missed it EVERY day. The Foie gras melted in our mouths, the risotto was creamy.
We enjoyed the savory dishes a lot more than the dessert chocolate crème brulee, but I wish to try another dessert next time.
It is an excellent value for the price. We would definitely visit again and again! Thank you Toshi-San!

My wife and I had dinner there in Dec 2022 and we were amazed by both the quality of the food and the level of execution. The chef Toshi came to our table and we chatted for a little, he was very kind to offer us an extra dessert that night. The ribeye with wine reduction was out of this world!
We highly recommend this place in Seattle, professional service, nice view of the city, excellent cuisine and atmosphere, altogether a must try for foodies.
Geraud and Kate.

We love restaurants that do just a few unique seasonal dishes and this place is one of them. Very cozy atmosphere with an amazing view and everything we ordered tonight were excellent.
We had endive salad, which was surprisingly delicious. Scallops were fresh and cooked perfectly. Overall, the dish was very rich and creamy. But I will have to say my favorite was braised short rib. Puree and red wine sauce added wonderful flavor and the beef was so tender. For desert, we had Yuzu cheese cake that had berries and sorbet, which we both loved.
We will definitely come back to try other dishes!

Service 5 star; Environment 4-5 star; Food 3-4 star.
I was attracted to this hidden restaurant by the pictures and high reviews. The service and environment are good - you get what you pay for but it can be better. The presentations are not bad too. The flavor though is just so so. Many Japanese ingredients and elements, but somehow, like the black cod I ordered, many thins in the dish but they don’t come together.
Matcha cheese cake is dry and too hard for me. The sweetness is overwhelming and I can’t taste the delicacy of matcha.
Vinny Squillace
Refreshing: the word we were told related to the corn chowder with tagarashi seasoning that was our palette cleanser to start the meal. After a long day at Seafair and out in the sun, no words could describe this meal better. The salmon crepe was amazing as a starter, with actually quite a big portion (would recommend just getting this as an appetizer for 2). The scallops with ratatouille were every bit perfect. and the corn risotto was by far the best risotto I've ever had. Not too heavy, but still the creaminess of the corn. And all of the servers were truly proud to tell you about the dishes and the restaurant. If you haven't tried it out - go soon!

Great spot for solid French technique meets Japanese/PNW flavors. Don’t be in a rush. Really interested in the tasting menu with sake pairings. Worth checking out again.

Service was impeccable. Food was amazing. It is rare to find somewhere that can accommodate a celiac so well. My new fav!

This place really is a hidden gem. Terrific spot for a romantic date or to take family/friends for a beautiful evening, with expansive westward-facing views of the city - perfect for sunset. My wife and I came here on a Thursday evening and were blown away by the bold, inventive flavors, the top-notch service from our server Josh, the relaxing ambiance, and the delicious seafood dishes. We loved the tuna tartare appetizer, the caramelized scallops entree and the cod main dish. Also, the selection of Japanese sake and beer was impressive. Iconiq is now an instant favorite of ours and we’ll be back for sure.
Nat Luengnaruemitchai
Beautiful and delicious risotto. Every dish was cooked spot on. Chef and staff are very friendly. The menu will keep changing to match available produce.

One of the best meals I've had in Seattle in a long time. Our food was delicious and well crafted, you could tell a lot of care and expertise went into the development and execution of each dish. This combined with the great view and hospitality make it a definite repeat for us.

2023 update: I've eaten at Iconiq another two times in the past several months and it is absolutely stellar. Flawless every time.
2019 review: I chose Iconiq without ever being there before based on reviews and reading Eater updates that described it as a good casual place with elevated food. My hope was to treat a friend visiting from Washington DC with stellar local views and our equally stellar creative cuisine. Iconiq was perfect. The food was clean, deceptively simple in appearance and a creative taste revelation without ever veering toward "trying too hard." The server was personable and informative without over-explaining, and also didn't hesitate to go to other staff for more information about the sake menu when it was needed. The chef-owner stopped by to check in and was informally engaging. The Japanese clam chowder was a full bowl of freshly and perfectly cooked clams over a small amount of tasty miso broth. My companion ordered that dish and, while I'm not a particular fan of even the freshest clams, I tried one and it was super tender and tasty. Cold asparagus soup was a bright, satisfying burst of flavor. The caramelized scallops were perfectly cooked as were the green vegetables artfully paired with them. I didn't try my friend's black cod but he was swooning. In terms of atmosphere, the space feels intimate and homey in a softly stylish modern way. I can't recommend this place enough.

Fantastic meal! Each dish were well executed, generously portioned, reasonably priced, and just taste dang good!

Seasonal menu crafted with care and technique. Everything has been good; a few dishes have been outstanding. Try the iberico pluma.
Kate Anderson
Enjoyed two thoughtful meals - one from the take out menu last fall and tonight's anniversary celebration with a beautiful view of the sun setting over the Sound from their dining room. Really lovely composition of dishes and delicate touch with the ingredients. Experience not to.be missed and after tonight's meal we'll be sure to visit again much sooner!

Incredibly tasty, ingeniously creative Japanese-French hybrid cuisine. We sat at the counter in front of the chef and saw our dishes as they were made. The saikyo yaki kinmedai (a Japanese snapper) and the seasonal risotto (with beets) were both delicious, and way beyond what we could have imagined. Completely recommend!
Kevin Cooper
Cons: Small, expensive portions. Tasty, but nothing to write home about. Their lofty-sounding beers tasted completely conventional.
Pros: Nice view of the city from the windows. Chocolate mousse for dessert was delicious.
Mike Lewis
Chef Toshi is so creative! He puts so much thought into his menu. We loved this experience and will be coming back each season!
Connor Dooley
Had a private dinner for a birthday and the food was absolutely fantastic! Beautifully constructed menu, great ambiance, a wonderful experience that I cannot recommend highly enough!
Daniel Wicklund
It was delightful to be served by the chef, who could explain the dishes so perfectly! The menu was interesting, and we really enjoyed the Japanese-French fusion, even when the flavors were fairly subtle. The octopus, beef cheeks and risotto were cooked perfectly, and were wonderfully tender and appealing in their presentation. The alcohol is inexplicably expensive, and with no wines by the glass, we purchased the cheapest bottle on the menu, which was a decent rioja at $65. I think the restaurant could focus a little more in this area. Decent French wine that doesn’t break the bank isn’t hard to find. Overall, we had a very nice experience!
Anoxic -
The restaurant is cozy and small, which actually surprised me. There's only one server/busser in the dining area; the bar was empty. I assume that in an ideal world there would be two people serving the diners.
SERVICE
That turned out to be negatively impacting our dining experience. Because it's short-staffed, it took us long enough to get our food ordered. The server was courteous, but a few things I'd like to point out:
1) When presenting the menu, tell us what's sold out already. It's a waste of time and annoying to be told that they ran of truffle, after waiting for 5 minutes to get the server's attention, only to be having to make another decision about what to eat when the server is standing next to us. The server could've saved the time and told us beforehand
2) The dining area was apparently short-staffed, as another chef ended up helping the diners when we were done eating. If that's the case, just stop asking if there's anything you could do for us every time after passing the dishes to us
FOOD
Food is okay, and as I mentioned in my other reviews, I'm losing hope in Seattle's restaurants.
The fried squid was on point. The texture was great, and the veggies set aside were a good complement. The octopus was a bit heavy, so maybe the veggies should be lighter.
The cauliflower trio was not bad either. I wonder if making the boiled floret into biting size (instead of sliced) would make it easier to eat.
Foie gras risotto - it's fatty, yes, as expected. Maybe the risotto, as a result, should be lighter with less butter? I'm not an expert on risotto, so this could be my personal preference.
Filet mignon had a lovely plating. I love it. The fried sweetbread was very innovative. The steak itself was not as tender as I would expect unfortunately. Maybe the temperature of the grill was not high enough to sear the surface? The other stuffs in the plate overshadowed the steak, and overall it was still a stunning dish.
BOTTOM LINE
It made me wonder the target customers of this restaurant. It has the potential to be a upscale restaurant that serves great experience and delicate food with high profit margin, or just attempt to cater to more people by making everything more average. It's a struggle for sure to serve Seattle. Or maybe I'm just being too picky.
shamal dias
Honestly probably the best place in Seattle. I come by at least once a month and I'm always amazed by the chef's passion.
Aly Lazaro
Just. Amazing. Dare I say even the best bites I've had in Seattle? I had booked a private dining even for my husband's 40th and Chef Kawai has surpassed all expectations. He catered the menu according to our preferences and every single bite was just phenomenal.
Our first course was a Vichysoisse. Now, I'm not usually a cold soup kind of person but I can eat a whole gallon of this. It's creamy as a vichyssoise is supposed to be but the truffle vinaigrette that was added ensured that it never got heavy. It was then topped with a delicious parmesan foam that not only added even more flavor but added an almost airy texture.
This was followed by a pork belly confit that is everything you want in pork belly. The crunch, the richness which is then balanced out by pickled cabbage and soy honey mustard, and the asparagus puree that just ties it all together.
After the heavier pork, he followed it up with a summer risotto and he did NOT skimp on the truffles. Every bite was just delicious crisp, truffle-y flavor that is complemented by the creamy risotto.
Now the lobster mac and cheese. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. He had pea coulis and micro shiso that just made this dish a light course, then he topped that up with a togarashi tuile that gave it some crunch. Just delicious.
Last course before dessert was a filet mignon with a saikyo-yaki foie gras. He topped the foie gras with some white miso sauce that was *chef's kiss* and then added some crispy maitake mushrooms and perigourdine sauce. I wasn't able to take a photo because I inhaled the whole dish before I knew it.
Dessert...oh the dessert. I could eat it all day. It was an absolutely amazing palate cleanser after the steak. The Yogurt Blancmange with the raspberry yuzu sorbet were just the right amount of tart and melt-in-your-mouth, this was beautifully surrounded by marinated berries and a red wine foam that was just...wow. If I had the superhuman kind of metabolism, this is probably something I would eat everyday. I would eat this whole entire meal everyday.
We've gone here before the pandemic and even then I remember how amazing his dishes are. I just can't say enough good things (and I know I've said delicious several times...because everything really is) and I think he needs more recognition for his talent. Brava Chef Toshi Kawai!

Iconiq is such a hidden gem.
We made the best decision ever to dine at Iconiq to celebrate our engagement back in August. Thank you, Chef Kawai, for sharing with us your beautiful creation of the sweet tomato and cantaloupe dessert. After all these months I am still savoring. It was the most amazing dessert ever. You are incredible.
We are lucky to have you in this neighborhood and we are absolutely amazed by your journey all the way from Osaka to the Pacific Northwest.
We are really thankful for your love of food and dedication to creating memorable experiences for the community. Aside from how amazing your food is, we are so impressed by how well and seamlessly the kitchen operates, and how you keep everything so beautifully organized. You clearly take great care of your staff members and deeply care about them.
We will visit you often and are super excited to see your business grow and prosper!

Cozy small space but not cramped. Food is delicious and high end with beautiful sunsets if you get a window table.
Steve Lin
Utterly delicious. One man show. He is the only chef. And the owner. No sous chef. He puts his heart and souls into every dish. Ingredients are super fresh. The vegetables are packed with flavor. The pork belly and filet mignon were the best I have ever tasted after traveling the world for 20+ years as a gourmet foodie
Kaitlyn Hatch
Post-vaccination, after more than a year in intense lock-down, this was a MAGICAL dining experience. First of all, safety protocols were great. Advanced reservations were required, there was hand sanitizer readily available, and only one other party in the restaurant.
Secondly, and most importantly, the food was INCREDIBLE. 1. I do not like pork. I think it tastes weird and have always avoided it. But my partner ordered the pork belly and so I gave it a try and OH. My. Gawd it was DIVINE. As was the Nicoise salad.
I had the steak as my main, and it blew me away. It was perfectly cooked, medium rare and served with the most gorgeous wine sauce. The mashed potatoes were creamy, and the mushrooms were an absolute treat. It was quite rich, and a larger serving than I expected, so I genuinely didn't think I could finish it—but it was too tasty not to finish.
Post-meal, I usually don't bother with dessert. I don't like sugary stuff and because I'm celiac, my options are usually creme brule (WAY too rich after a meal like this one) or a chocolate brownie (I don't like chocolate). But the dessert they were offering was unlike anything I'd ever seen and absolutely like something I'd want: wine soaked fruit with a yuzu-raspberry sorbet, yogurt, and wine foam.
I have eaten in Michelin star restaurants in the UK and France and I have NEVER had such an amazing dessert. It was dreamy! And again, despite how incredibly full I was, I managed to finish it because it was just too damn good not to.
It's clear that the chef loves to cook, to play with flavours, and to bring joy and delight with food. Iconiq is a hidden treasure and one I will definitely be going back to.
Rachit Tyagi
Amazing experience. We got to chat with the chef himself while dining, which was a really enjoyable experience. The food was incredible and creative.

We’ve eaten at Iconiq numerous times as it’s become one of our top five restaurants in Seattle. My takeaways: best creative cooking; intimate with a view of downtown; Friendly attentive staff; well curated if expensive wine list. Favorite dishes of late: Octopus, truffle risotto, iberico pluma, and filet mignon. Perfect place for a special occasion.
Megan Bettilyon
Excellent from start to finish! Everything we had was fantastic, and the wines were great! Highly recommend the sweet corn soup, Japanese clam chowder, and heirloom tomato risotto. Service was perfect and the view was beautiful. Pro tip: when making a reservation request the dining room near the window for the best views of the city.
Kelsey Rudd
The food was really good but service was slow and a little sloppy and feel like they forgot about us at one point, which is surprising for an upscale place like this. Get a table in the back it you can, I heard the view is nice, but the front was just cold gusts and tight spaces.
Kiyomi Morton
Four of us ordered different meals and couldn't help sharing each other's dishes. Fantastic cooking with great ingredients. Not only main ingredients are great and fresh but also side vegetables prepared delicately and beautifully. Can't wait for our next dinning there!
Matthew
Iconiq is an intimate and cozy restaurant with an amazing view. Chef and Owner Toshiyuki Kawai uses divine combinations of different meats, fish, and vegetable elements to create innovative dishes. I enjoyed several of the menus items (5 plus dessert) every dish kept me wanting more! Sadly, the restaurant is understaffed and Chef Kawai was our host, server, and cook. He managed the evening with his second chef and another employee; you would never have known that he was understaffed-he did an amazing job! I cannot say enough about this restaurant!
Jim Bruene
Definitely a hidden gem. We are long-time residents and were surprised by how cool the location. Great city views. But more importantly, wonderful food. Love the French-Asian fusion, very clever and very tasty. We've been twice and will be back soon with out-of-town visitors. Special place!

Hidden Gem; Gorgeous Neighborhood Restaurant; French/Japanese Fusion
Taylor Campbell
Food was imaginative and service was impeccable. That combined with small intimate space and scenic views make for a killer combination. Great date spot. Heads up though: portions are small (perhaps owing to the French flair) if you have a companion, plan on splitting an appetizer or a dessert. :)
Tina Downey
Fantastic service and outstanding food. Highlights include miso clam chowder, market fish entree and the berry soup dessert, but we'd gladly have everything we tried again in a heartbeat. Great selection of sake and wines by the glass - French Gamay and Yakima Syrah were delicious!
Shaun Wahle
Big fan of this unassuming restaurant. I've run past this restaurant a few times and it definitely checks a lot of boxes. Every items felt like it was perfectly seasoned and nothing was heavy handed in flavor. There was a lot of balance in the Mizuna Salad and I really enjoy the subtle flavors in the Lamb Shabu Shabu. The salted watermelon soda was perfect for the hot day, but I also love their Japanese beer and sake selection. The view was beautiful and one of the best in the city.
Andrea Skye Drenguis
Had dinner here the other night and was so impressed! The food was delicious, with elegant presentation. The view was to die for, and the service was top notch. I'll definitely be going back!

Japanese chef, Seattle trained, French/Japanese fusion menu! Great food, great atmosphere, fantastic views of the city from the top of the Mt. Baker neighborhood. This is a "neighborhood" location, but "downtown" quality.

My new favorite cozy, romantic dining spot. French/Italian/Japanese fusion takes the subtle flavors from each culture to create unique gastronomic experiences. Pair yazu with creme fraiche or ponzu into a tomato demi glace, and you will feel as though you've traveled halfway around the world only to find yourself at home.
Tempura black cod over risotto or mixed greens with goat cheese and shiso are Iconiq's version of comfort food.
All of this in a Mount Baker location with a view that is an escape from the denizens of the hoity-toity downtown crowd.
I'm only sharing this now, more than a year after discovering it, just so I could savor this spot before the Yelp masses descended. These days, just be sure to make a reservation.

delicious and not expensive
