We had a nice big booth table for our group. Very cozy! GET THE BALSAMIC CALAMARI, you will thank me later! Serving sizes are very large. Red sauce is really delicious. We got the tiramisu & apple crumble or dessert. Both were good but the apple was a fan favorite!!

Service was excellent food very good but in much bigger quantities than what most people consume for dinner hence we end up having 3 boxes to take home. We were 4 adults there for dinner and ordered three dishes from house specialities menu. I suggest that if smaller quantities are also on menu they will be economical for customer as well as would definitely be healthier. We loved how our server offered to make me a cappuccino when they ran out of regular cofee. That was a very well balanced cappuccino loved ❤️ that 👍 .

Good food, nice vibe, helpful & friendly stuffs. We had office holiday dinner here. The stuffs kept up with the requests from this large group (14 people) from every direction, appreciate it! Sicilian with beef, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, onions was delicious as well as calamari & mushroom caps.

The items on the menu here are very nice authentic Italian dishes. It's also made correctly such as the carbonara with peas which some places don't do. Real italians add peas usually in their carbonara. Their prices are fair, they aren't super expensive. The staff is friendly and it's a cozy environment. I don't dislike this place but here are my issues. A couple of the dished were bland. The dishes looked extremely delicious and tasty but once I tried a bite I was a bit surprised at how bland it was. The oil in the beginning for the bread had a nice color too it. But it didn't taste like extra Virgin olive oil. It kind of tasted like regular olive oil. Any real Italian knows extra virgin olive oil is the only olive oil to use. I could be wrong but it didn't taste like extra virgin,, that was my first disappointment. I found myself adding salt a few times to the fried mozzarella. My carbonara also needed salt so I had them add cheese instead. Again, the food here isn't bad. It looks great, nice place and authentic dishes. The flavoring was just a little off. It could have just been me so try it for yourself. I would go back just to try it again.

Nice service, not a fan of being told tables are on hold or have a time limit. Seems weird, by the time I left 30% of the restaurant was empty. Yet I had a time limit. The Bracciola was not as flavorful as I was expecting. The meat seemed simmered in tomato sauce. Had no real flavor. Stars were for the service and the first two items.

Amazing service! Loved our waiter, he was so kind. He made our night special since we were celebrating our masters graduation. I would definitely recommend this to anybody trying Italian food on Atwells Avenue! It’s so close to everything and very convenient. They even have a valet when I was trying to find parking for 15 minutes!

I haven't been to this place since they first opened in the late 80s. We decided to have lunch here last Sunday. They only offer the dinner menu on Sundays. Other days you can get a lunch menu. I ordered the lasagna. It was an ok sized piece and was made with a pink vodka sauce. I thought it was very good, but little over priced for the portion you get and no salad comes with. We weren't offered any bread with our meal. I overheard another table request it. Drinks were decent, and bartender was friendly.

My first dinner at Cassarino's was an overall pleasant experience. Party of 3 arrived 30 minutes earlier than our Friday evening 6:00 reservation. We sat at the bar and had a cocktail and wine while our table was being prepared. Bartender was friendly and attentive. She customized a drink ordered which was perfectly executed. We were seated at our table on the second floor near the front windows which offered a nice view of busy Federal Hill. The decor is elegant yet comfortable. The waitstaff was quick to take our order and ensured our water glass stayed full throughout dinner. We ordered Bolognese with rigatoni, gorgonzola crusted sirloin, and Pollo Milano. All were delicious. Dessert menu was tempting but we were too full. Another visit was for a late lunch with three friends on a Thursday afternoon. We were seated right away in the main dining area on the lower level. We started with Arancini and house garlic bread along with an Italian Margarita, glass of Chianti and an espresso martini. For lunch we ordered a sausage pizza, Italian cold cut sandwiches, side salads and truffle fries. There were no complaints other than portion sizes were ample.

It was good, but might go for another veal dish the rolled up veal special was good but a bit a bit dry. The calamari was out of sight and clearly hand breaded. Great wine list the super Tuscans were great and a great price.

We had a fantastic lunch here today on our way out of Rhode Island. We ordered the Chicken Cassaligna & Veal Cassarino. The sauce was excellent and veal & chicken were very tender.

Providence Federal Hill gem! From the first interaction with the valet, to the hostess, waitress and assistant; all were welcoming and friendly! The oil and fresh warm bread set the tone for a truly scrumptious yet entirely too large meal to follow--luckily tomorrow is leftover night! With the amount of food, the price is Very affordable too--what a great way to close our dinner excursions in this lovely town!!

We had an amazing wedding rehearsal dinner for 30 people. The setting was a private top floor area with excellent soft music and seating that was comfortably spaced for dining and family enjoyment. All the menu choices were excellent ..... bread, nice dipping oils, salad, entrees and dessert. The entree choices were simply awesome ..... veal, eggplant, steak, chicken and pasta .... portions were perfect and so yummy... The beverage selection of wine, beer and spirits that complimented the entrees, so nice. The wait staff was timely, professional and accommodated every request made by the wedding party and their guests, simply spectacular service. The valet parking made it easy for getting in and out of a very busy location, much appreciated. I would highly recommend Cassarino's for any event that you want impress your friends and family, they exceeded my expectations and it was just so special, thank you 👍

Sat on the third floor which allowed for an illuminated, bird’s eye view of federal hill and Atwells Ave. Our waiter for the night, Dominic, was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious, and they accommodated specific substitutions/allergies wonderfully. This has been my favorite local restaurant for a delicious Italian dinner, and once again they exceeded expectations. Highly recommend to any and all patrons looking for high quality atmosphere, service, and food. Will be back again and again!

Can’t believe I missed this gem for decades. Interior is a little sparse. Don’t be fooled. Food is excellent. Had an array of appetizers including a top-notch antipasto with cheeses hand-picked by the chef. Wonderful flavors and quality items. Will definitely go back as soon as possible.

Overall amazing dining experience from start to finish! Party of 4 on a busy Friday night - we sat in the first dining area closer to the bar - which was preferred by our group - barely sat down and was greeted by our waiter, Michael - and had waters and bread within minutes. Michael was extremely knowledgeable of the entire menu and was extremely polite and professional with an amazing personality to match. Apps, 4 different entrees and drinks - all exceptional! One person in the party will not stop talking about "the best" black angus prime rib he's ever had! Michael checked in on us often to make sure each one of us were happy and satisfied with our meals. We even had the pleasure to meet the owners at the end of our meal who also inquired about our meal and evening. Food - phenomenal Service - exceptional- from the moment we were greeted upon check in to the time we walked out the door (which we really didn't want to do)- Michael and the team of servers have clearly been doing this for a long time and it shows. Atmosphere - relaxing and inviting We have already decided this will be a regular stop for dinner nights out for our group - see you soon!

Great spot. Service and food were both excellent. Bummed that i didn’t take advantage of the specials offered but the gnocchi was fantastic. Location and set up was cool. We went from the bar to a table with ease and had a long visit while we finished plenty of appetizers and drinks. Looking forward to returning.

Excellent! The food was perfect and the service was really good. The only quibble for us was the restaurant was loud especially the music (heavy continuous beat) . I would say the target audience was the 20-30 year old crowd. If you are ok with the music and noise definitely check it out. Your taste buds will thank you.

Overall GREAT experience!! Was with a group of 6 to celebrate a 97th birthday! I brought in a cake with candles and handed it off to the staff who said they'd take care of it. Our waitress, Morgan, was just perfect. She was super sweet, attentive (but not overly so), smiling and happy to answer questions. The food was delicious from the calamari + arancini ball app, to my main dish which was a special - blue crab ravioli with shrimp and veggies, incredibly flavorful + fresh yet simple. I see in some reviews people complain about the price. For the quality and quantity, the price is reasonable. Gone are the days where we can walk out of a restaurant and pay $50 to feed a family of 4, so if you're not willing to spend the money, don't go out to eat! Once we were done with dinner, the staff brought out the cake with candles lit and started singing happy birthday with us. They took the cake after blowing out candles and cut it up and served it. Highly recommend coming here, they also have valet parking which makes things easier!

Portion is really big. The main can totally be shared by two people. The "mini" dessert is like a normal size dessert to me. Very reasonably priced. Food quality is great and my server Nick is attentive and super friendly. Great vibe on a late Friday night. It could be on the loud side for people who want an elegant dinner but I totally enjoyed my evening there.

This is an all Italian restaurant with delicious and traditional Italian dishes. Very pricey, but the food was enjoyable and I would come again. I am only giving it 4 stars because when they get busy busy service can be a little slow, so order your drinks before you run out!

Friendly and attentive staff. Accommodating to my group of 8 for a farewell dinner for my co-worker. Everything we ordered was delicious. Hands down the must have appetizer is the Balsamic Calamari. Can't go wrong with the food & serve. Great place for a group or couple's night out. Bon Appétit!!

Gluten free folks... I give Cassarino's a 10 out of 10! Great food, many gluten free options and they have gluten free beer. I wish I lived closer. In my area I'm lucky to get anything gluten free. And the prices are fair.

I don't like to be a hater but was disappointed with our meal. There was a cold draft at our table so I was not comfortable. Service was good however both my veal and my husband's chicken were over cooked. Instead of melt in your mouth, it was very chewy.. Spending well over $100 and getting a poor meal was certainly not worth it!!

This has become our favorite Providence restaurant. It's intimate environment is very inviting and the food is delicious! It feels like a family run restaurant. There are always fun specialty drink options on the menu. Fantastic eggplant parm and my daughter always gets chicken parm with vodka sauce. Yum!

What a great experience! We stopped eating out due to Covid and I really missed this place. Hands down the best chicken parm ever; my go to!! I caved and tried the lasagna because it looked so good-- covered in a pink vodka bolognese sauce with chunks of meat. Yum!! My bf said the veal parm was the best he'd ever had. Even the bread and aioli was awesome. A sweet hostess and multiple servers meant we wanted for nothing throughout our amazing dining experience. We were surprised how good the prices were in this economy too. Can't wait to come back! Free valet, so if you're worried about parking, don't!

I have not done many of these, but I should have done this review immediately! Our visit 11/11/22. My beautiful girlfriend Heather received a few recommendations from friends so we opted for a 19:30 reservation. Upon arrival the valet took care of our vehicle. We were a bit early so we sat at the bar for a beverage. My girlfriend’s beverage was a little off and a nice blonde woman who was just next to us offered her insight for an addition to make the drink taste better, it worked! (Prosecco?) The host staff and bartenders were happy and very friendly (great to see these days). We went upstairs to our table and were greeted shortly after by the same blonde woman from the bar and she gave us a personal welcome to the restaurant and thanked me for my service (Veteran’s day). She even offered a drink on the house! Thanks! Next came the apps and entrees. Our server was attentive and very polite. We had enough food on the table (just the two of us) for another couple! Portions were outstanding! The food came immediately from the kitchen hot and delicious! My mouth was watering as I watched the other dishes in anticipation. The reason for this review is not to bash anyone or their service. This review is to document my experience and express my thanks/gratitude for a fantastic outing at your establishment. To the woman whose name has escaped me. You know who you are. THANK YOU. You just gained a patron for life. See you again soon. John & Heather

We had a 6pm reservation on a Friday night & I wouldn't recommend any other way, unless you enjoy a long, painful wait. Once seated,our waiter came to our table within two minutes. He was efficient, knowledgeable & very pleasant. Our drinks & appetizers were served almost immediately. However, we waited way too long for our entrees (atleast 45-55 mins). We had to stop our waiter as he passed by our table to inquire about the delay. He apologized & stated that they were understaffed. Within 5 minutes, our entrees were served. I will say that the food was excellent & I felt that the portions were generous. No rolls (or bread) were served with our entrees, which surprised me because this staple is always a given in any Italian restaurant ... Except this one. It wasn't even offered so this was a first for me. It was missed because who doesn't enjoy some warm rolls & delicious bread while waiting for their dinner? The ambience and atmosphere did not impress me whatsoever. We were seated on the 2nd floor & were informed that a 3rd floor is also available for dining. An inviting ambience wasn't even a possibility. The lighting was on the brighter side, there's a mix of tables for four & tables for 12+. These larger tables were occupied by "party people" who were steadily drinking while dining, resulting in a very loud & happily buzzed group of customers. Aside from the extremely noisy neighbors who filled the room with bellowing voices & non-stop laughter, coupled with the overly bright lighting... in my opinion... if you're searching for a romantic, softly lit & relatively quiet place to dine... This is not your place. But, on the flip side... If you're craving some excellent Italian pasta, an enticing list of chicken prepared in many delicious choices, filet mignon that touches your lips & melts in your mouth or a generous selection of various seafood dishes sure to please... Along with a menu you need to see to believe... Then look no more. Just plan on tuning out your noisy neighbors, expect the ambience of your own kitchen, bring your appetite and... Oh, yeah... Your own rolls & bread. I promise that you will leave there with your belly stuffed with an amazing meal & a great, big smile on your face. And, the only thought you'll be pondering on the ride home is whether or not you really did miss the rolls & bread 🍞

We've been here numerous times but this time was disappointing. Our waiter never told us the specials, we were not given bread and when I made the reservation it asked if it was for a special occasion and I said it was for a birthday but that was never brought up. Also, the chicken saltimbocca that I always get was not as good as it usually is, overall the entire experience was very disappointing. I'm not sure we will go back

Every time we visit Providence, it is a must to dine at Cassarino's. The food and service are always excellent!! Price is very affordable, and definitely worth every penny! You get your money's worth.

Parking was complimentary valet, which is absolutely necessary here. Atmosphere, hostess and servers all good to great. The available wines-by-the-glass offered a meager selection of fair wines. The burrata salad was ok, not great. We definitely expected better. The Caesar salad was also just ok, nothing special; croutons had no flavor. So, why 4-stars? Both entrees (Salmon & 16oz NY strip) were outstanding! The accompanying side dishes were also very good. And, the desserts were good as well. We tried the mini trio (tiramisu, crème brulee and cannoli with cream, along with a lava cake which we brought home for our daughter and she had no complaints). I'm not sure that we would return, as there are so many options in the area. But I will say its probably worth trying.

They accommodated us without a reservation on a Saturday night when the restaurant right next door named 'Andinos' gave our table away and we had a reservation and there on time. Cassarinos was pleasant and waitstaff was impeccable. Great food and will definitely be back again. 👍

The service is wonderful and the food is amazing. The portions are huge and there are always leftovers. We had a wonderful time for a birthday dinner. Highly recommend a espresso martini for dessert, they are made perfectly! Also recommend reservations to enjoy the outside seating when Atwells ave is closed! Great for people watching

Great service. Please do not allow your staff to use the leaf blower during outdoor dining hours! Young man was doing this next to where we were eating today! Dust, leaf particles everywhere adjacent to our open plates/drinks. They had to brush off table cloths for new customers. Tried to cover my food with my cloth napkin! Couldn't believe it. Please use leaf blower before your place opens and before you set out place settings! Our plates were dusty when we first sat down as well...had to order new ones. The calamari was made from huge, giant frozen rings. No tentacles? A telltale sign that these were from those giant frozen bags of rings, not fresh. Real Italian calamari lovers want the tentacles. Willing to pay more for the real thing fresh. Once again, great servers, but...

This was my first time eating at Cassarino's even though it's been a landmark on Federal Hill for years. My first reaction, it was excellent! The servers were outstanding and friendly, and they were inclined to help. There was a mix-up with my girlfriend's order, but it was quickly fixed. But the food was the star of the show, of course. I ordered a salad and the chicken Parmesan, which I'm a harsh critic of whenever I order it, and their chicken parm is in my top 5!

Amazing that they offer a whole vegan section of the menu. Old-school Italian restaurant vibes with an updated selection! The cocktails are great, and we had the mini dessert sampler platter which was adorable and the perfect way to finish the night. Our waiter Brendan was incredibly attentive and friendly.

We had the most amazing experience last evening that we've ever had in a restaurant(we've been to many) From the Hostesses, to the Bar Service, to the Waiter Andrew and the Food it was beyond outstanding. Andrew was Knowledgeable, Attentive, Friendly and made outstanding wine and food recommendations along with his amazing service. Hats off to Cassarinos and the staff. We highly highly recommend. Perfect night out and our new go to for many years to come.

Not my first visit here at Cassarinos. You can expect great service and some of your favorite italian dishes. I love the Chicken saltimbocca which comes with a side of mashed potatoes. I paired that with a Paloma one of my summer favorites. Prices are great and portions are ample. My 3 friends and I took at least half home for another meal. They have outdoor or indoor seating and a valet.

Needed someplace quick to take a friend from out of town for lunch. We both had the buratta salad. Delicious! We ubered from the Rennaisance (where our conference was being held) We had friends who walked down to the mall for lunch who just made it back in time from the crowded mall chain restaurants. We thouroughly enjoyed our meal at a much yummier restaurant with a more delightful atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend.

Went here for a birthday celebration with my family. Nice atmosphere, great specialty cocktail, apps and food. Great portion sizes. Meal was great until my daughter found a bug in her fettuccine Alfredo. The waiter apologized and said he would let the manager know. She was given another meal. We ordered a dessert, packed up our leftovers, but the manager never came to our table. We got the bill and my daughter's meal was NOT comped. Not even the dessert was comped! Very disappointing! Not too sure we will return, there are many great restaurants in Federal Hill that we can go to instead

Amazing food, portions are so big and very elegant. This place is close to my heart. My husband and I came there before we had kids and now with our children. We really like the food there, atmosphere, music and the staff. Also very clean and large bathrooms that are very nice. We live far 1 hour one way but we try to do a trip and enjoy Cassarino’s our favorite restaurant.

Wonderful food and atmosphere! I had the Veal Parmigiana and my son ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese. Both were delicious, with a marinara that had great flavor that wasn’t tart. We sat at the bar, and the bartender (I think his name was Danny) was fast and attentive. If we’re ever in the area again, we will definitely be back!

If I could give this place 6 Stars I would. It was a bit busy when we got there so we sat at the bar for a cocktail while we waited. Theresa, the most amazing bartender on the planet, made us the best espresso martini. While we were enjoying those, the hostess told us our table was ready. Our sever Drew O, was incredible. He described every special so delightfully, we had no choice but to order one of each. Always an amazing experience whenever we come here!

When we lived in Providence over 11 years ago we would get takeout from Cassarino's every month or so, it has been 11 years since I have been here and the food is just as good if not better. Menu has been slightly changed but all my favorites were still there. The service was excellent. I was recently here with a group of 7 and we were made to feel like we were the only ones that were there. Definitely a palace to go for a casual dinner or something more intimate.

We went for dinner on Fathers day with a fairly large party. They were very accommodating, the manager on made our request for a different table happen on the spot, and the staff was very professional. The young lady who waited on us and the two bus boys who were upstairs were on point. Thank you for a great visit!

Excellent staff and great Italian food. Even as a vegetarian, when most places try to do fake meat dishes, while they mean well, it typically doesn't come out good. Not here though! They have put thought into their flavors and what they use. Highly recommend for any vegetarian.

Amazing food with large portions. A friend had the swordfish special and it was delicious and moist with capers and artichoke hearts in a butter sauce. I usually avoid swordfish because I find it dry. The real chop I had was huge and delicious, found it challenging to finish. We split the peach bread pudding special and it was so large that the 2 of us could not finish even though it was very tasty.

First off I had a great lunch with 4 coworkers on Friday, food was made and delivered with perfection. The service was fantastic. The restaurant was very clean. Now let me say I have been driving by this pace for years, always wanted to go in but had my favorites or regular locations, as we all do. I just never took the time or shot to walk in. This past week I had met one of the owners and I expressed this to him. I also promised I would make a point to swing in and give it a try. I was very impressed and so was my team. The staff was very well schooled on the menu and specials, he took his time to express his favorites as well. I had the Veal Marsala (10) the others had, Italian grinder (10) Caprese sandwich (10) and Chicken Marsala (10) each dish was awesome we all agreed as good as you would like each received a 10. I only have one regret, I should have walked in to this place sooner! Looking forward to going back for lunch next week and plans for dinner will be on the way. We had a reservation for 3, waitress took our order, then another came to take it. We ordered 2 apps, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts, was a hefty bill, and they pushed us to hurry, nicely, every step of the way. Never refillex our bread after asking the 2 watresses and 3 buss ppl. Offered no mocktails. Ice tea was water with color. We did stay a while but there were always available tables our whole stay and i tipped more than 20%. Food was good, lil pricey. They didn't hesitate to take plates while fork was in hand. Atmosphere was beautiful and very dimly lit.

Came in about 20 minutes before closing on Sunday and had Morgan as a server. While this is not our typical move, Morgan greeted us with positivity and a great attitude. She gave us time when we needed it and gave us opinions when we asked. Being so close to closing on a Sunday, most would have given us the cold shoulder. Morgan embrassed us with open arms, encouraged us to take our time, and made us feel at home all night. We will certainly be back in the future and we hope to have Morgan again in the future!

Ate here for restaurant week and the food was absolutely fantastic. The calamari was some of the best I ever had. I got the Gorgonzola encrusted sirloin which was cooked perfectly and very tasty. Finally I finished it off with some tiramisu which was also great. The decor inside was nice and the staff was very friendly, especially the hostess. The only thing I thought could be improved was the speed at which the food came out. Granted we had a party of 7 but the meal took close to 3 hours. In fact we had to move our car at one point because our parking was going to expire during the meal. I'd certainly go back though. One of the best meals I've had this year.

Went here with a large group of people during a recent visit to Rhode Island and had a nice dinner. We got some appetizer platters to share with the table and everything that was included was very tasty. I then got the Cassarino and that was really good. The portion size was huge and I was able to bring half of it home for lunch the next day. This was a nice dinner in a nice setting on Federal Hill and I will definitely be back the next time I am in Rhode Island.

The food and martinis at the restaurant were great. The wait staff were friendly and tried to be helpful. However, when asked about personal insights about some of the dishes it became obvious that the server had little personal experience with the food. When asked if servers had a chance to taste some of the dishes, the answer was, no. I think to be a truly great restaurant, servers should have that opportunity in order to best help diners. The restaurant itself had a nice ambience and used the fact that it is an old building as an asset ... at least to some degree. Some things to change: there are three floors accessed via stairs. The people in my group had no difficulty taking the stairs to the third floor; however, we are all over 65, and a simple question asking us if stairs to the 3rd floor was okay would not be insulting; the second floor bathroom had one tiny stall. My knees practically touched the door when seated. A reconfiguration is needed. They had valet parking which is essential in the area.

We came here on Sunday and ordered the 3 course prefixed menu. The appetizers were both good, calamari and a Cesar salad. Our entrees were chicken con broccoli rabe and seafood lamarge. Both were sent back, the sausage was cold and the scallops tasted bad. So we both ordered the cassarino which is chicken parm but with ricotta on top. That was good. Our desserts were good and we ordered specialty drinks which were also good. We had a nice view, finally situated with good food and service. They have a large selection on their menu. Next time we are in the area we would probably come for lunch or drinks and appetizers. We were the only people in the restaurant for about a half hour, so I'm thinking it's better to come when its busy. All in all, worth the visit!

The restaurant was packed when we arrived. We were completely thrilled with where we were seated. Service was a bit slow, we ordered drinks and didnt get them for a good 20 minutes. I'm willing to bet the place was flat sat before we arrived. The food was amazing. Everything on my plate was cooked to perfection. My only real criticism is from the service. Everyone was very very nice however there were a few hiccups. I told the hostess I was stepping out for a smoke while I waited for my entree , still had a little less than half of my martini left and when I came back the drinks were cleared from the table but not the empty app plates. The manager rectified the situation quickly which definitely made our experience better. Also I think the server forgot to ring in the side of broccoli rabe, which came to the table more than a few minutes late. I dont mean to nit pick but if they stepped their game up on the service end, we would definitely be back for another visit. Amazing food, definitely worth a visit.

went to a charming Federal Hill eatery and had a meal that was beyond reproach. the Arancini was cooked to perfection with a light marinara and my steak alla mama was one of the best I have ever had. the wait staff was on point for every aspect throughout the meal but were not annoying. everything got done without us noticing their presence. the background music was low enough were my wife and I could speak to each other and all of the tables ended up conversing with each other. a great dining experience!!!!!

Food was good. They need a child friendly menu. Closest thing they had was a burger that came out with some kind of blue cheese or crumbled gouda . Kids didn't eat it. The server, John L. was not a confident server at all. We were a large , pre scheduled party of 10. It was told to them at booking we were celebrating a birthday. He took forever to do everything, drinks, app order, meal order... Water boy was more respondent . if you asked him to do anything while he was at table, he looked at you blankly . Multi tasking was not a strong suit. The end of the meal was disappointing at best. When he was asked about bringing a dessert out and singing for the birthday person, he actually looked at me and said. "i'm not really comfortable with doing that". Huh? When has a restaurant server ever declined a request like this especially when it was indicated in the reservation? I wasn't really comfortable with leaving him a 20% tip afterwards but Had no choice since it was included in the bill because the size of the party. He was a 10% maybe 15% server at best. Hope the water boy got some of it since he did 1/2 the work.

I was visiting from out-of-town and so the stakes are higher. You want everything you do while traveling to be nice. So, yeah, this place hit the mark.

Cassarino’s on the Hill My wife and I recently sampled several restaurants on Federal Hill for an upcoming dinner with friends visiting from out of town. To fairly judge each restaurant we decided to have one of our favorite dishes in all of them—pasta for me and eggplant Parmesan for her. We decided that if an Italian restaurant could not make good pasta or eggplant why would we expect their other dishes to be worth having? With this in mind we started our mini tasting on the “Hill”. Our decision was easy; Cassarino’s was clearly the best of the four restaurants we tried. My bowl of capellini alla Puttanesca was superb! The ultra-thin pasta was firm and tender, covered with crushed tomatoes, garlic, olives, capers and anchovies. To my wife’s delight the eggplant Parmesan was delicious, crispy, golden brown slices of eggplant topped with a rich tomato sauce beneath a slice of melted mozzarella cheese. This also came with a healthy serving of tender and sweet gnocchi—a real treat by itself. Overall our dining experience at Cassarino’s was unhurried in a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. We can’t wait to go back there with our friends.
