Limited parking. Smells strong like a fish market. The tanks looked clean and the prices were great. I was kind of surprised that more than half the fish was not local. Like farm raised salmon. I get that it’s less expensive but I was looking at local food.

Always a great place and my only place to get my fresh fish/shellfish. On my last visit I got the sushi grade yellowfin tuna and dry boat scallops for making Maki sushi rolls. Everything is always the best quality! I highly recommend Harbor Fish Market!! With leftover tuna and scallops I just grilled up for a snack.

If I am in Portland again (which I hope soon), this place will be my first stop! Followed by a place that sells butter, salt, garlic, lemon.....you know where this is headed!

This shop is a dream for all seafood lovers. Grab a dozen $1.99 oysters and find a nearby park to chow down. Huge variety of fresh caught fish as well as samples can be found here. Parking is a little tight but that's to be expected due to the location and the busy area.

One of the best of the best fresh seafood markets in downtown Portland (check out Free Range Seafood right down the street, too!), but caveat emptor: parking can be a challenge. Luckily people move in and out of the alleyway parking spots fairly quickly. Order in advance online if possible!

Great place to buy fresh seafood. Crowded with plenty of locals, which is a good sign. When we came, the daily special was scallops for $15.99 a pound, which is way cheaper than what they typically go for, at least in Cambridge. We also got some sushi grade tuna and a 60g tray of uni for $9.99. The uni tasted buttery and fresh. The man behind the counter was also extremely helpful and steered us away from buying the overpriced lobster. They gave us a styrofoam box and ice for the trip back home, and everything was still cold hours later. Would make the trip to Portland just to come back here!

We came to MAINE for fall colors and seafood. The only thing for sale is lobster. Harbor does everything oysters, clams, mussels, fish, and lobsters. We loaded up but will be back. Prices very, very good. Staff helpful.

So this place is awsome, right on the docks, fresh lobster at a great price along with other seafood. Great assortment of oysters as well. I highly recommend going here for your fresh seafood needs. Staff did a great job of answering questions and were keeping the place clean while everyone was shopping. Parking is limited and the shop is a little tight but they get you taken care of really quick. They also ship seafood to you throughout the U.S. haven't tried that part yet but I do have the info. If I am ever back in the area I will stop in again.

I always visit Harbor Fish Market when in Portland. They cook their lobster meat better than many restaurants do. Sometimes they even have belly from a large tuna! All of the fish and shellfish is of top quality weather expensive or less expensive.

Truely a great place to get fresh seafood. They have a very large selection of fish, shellfish and other specialty offerings. Despite the current situations the employees do a great job of streamlining online pickups. They also offer onsite ordering but only curbside so if you want the quickest and most efficient service definitely order online although there are a few items not on the site due to seasonal availability. We visiting this place twice during a one week visit to Maine. The first time we ordered 10 chix lobsters, 3 dozen fresh oysters and 2 lbs large dry scallops all packed in a cooler for $200. Before leaving we order cooked and chilled lobsters for $5 each to go only. Mind you at sit down restaurants a single lobsters with a few sides would run you about $25.

These guys are pro's -- I wanted to take a couple of pounds of Lobster meat back to Austin, and for 10 bucks they expertly packed a small lined carry-on that allowed me room for an additional 6lbs of fresh Haddock, half fillets and half chowder fish. After I got home, 24 hours later, I added ice every day and the whole load lasted the entire week. Amazing!

This was a super cool experience! Buying fish off the Docks. Not off the boat like we wanted , but maybe we'll catch that in summer. It's a little marketplace that packs soooo much inside. There are a lot of employees and they all know exactly what their doing. This is a fast pace place and I'm almost getting a little anxious thinking about it! So many people in and out so quickly, it felt like things were flying out the door and we planned to get a really big order. The prices were unbelievably good and they said it gets cheaper after winter . We left with 30 whole lobsters, a few lbs of scallops and some smoked herring.. which sounds and looks gross but they give samples and it was actually pretty good. All the locals are in there knowing what they're getting, while we needed step by step and to be schooled, we almost bought live Crab for a long ride home lol. It was fun to experience Definitely a good time.

For a Mediterranean person this is ok, not bad, but I've seen better in other states and for a big seafood state like Maine I expected more, but sadly there's nothing that wow in Maine, this is actually the best one, they don't have everything you need like other kinds of fish, they're just playing it safe I guess, but they're VERY VERY VERY clean and that goes along way, the staff is amazing, polite, and so helpful 😊 am just giving 4 stars cause I need more variety and bigger space to shop

My daughter and I made our very first trip to Portland, Me the week of Oct 17, 2018. One of our stops was the Harbor Fish Market. The employees were so friendly and helpful. We bought a few items, but then wanted to have some shipped home. Alice suggested we wait until we get home and order on line, that way we are guaranteed to be here when it arrives. I am so glad we did. We received our shipment the day after we ordered it. and had family over to share it. The lobster and the oysters we ordered were the most delicious we have ever had. There's nothing more quintessentially coastal Maine than fresh seafood, and this is one of the best places in town to get it. The employees are always friendly and helpful, despite usually being incredibly busy (even outside of tourist season!) and the product is always top notch, to the point that it's one of the only places I'm comfortable buying raw items such as local oysters and tuna for homemade sushi.

This is by far the best seafood store in Maine. They have everything out on display, super fresh and priced to sell. I like their shopping totes they are sturdy and hold loads. Their tuna and shelled lobster are top notch. I like their crabmeat, and haddock as well. Their staff are super friendly and the place is always packed for a reason. They will ship seafood out of state for you as well.

The oyster selection and quality is second to none, they have hard to find delicacies like halibut cheeks, they staff is knowledgeable, and the steamers are some of the best around. Bought seafood here for the 1st time last week. Ordered online, selected a pickup time/window and proceeded to receive the best seafood and service I've experienced in months (and I live in a seafood capital of New England). We bought scallops, lobster and crabmeat. The scallops had virtually no smell when I opened the package which meant they were as fresh as fresh can be and no (or minimal) preservatives - a rarety in today's seafood market. They were firm and tasty just pan seared. Lobster was as expected for fresh Maine lobster. I had ordered ours already cooked (yes, I was lazy), but the meat was firm and sweet. I froze the crabmeat and have yet to try it but I expect it to be as good as everything else. I will purchase here again and again as I travel through.

All and all its a great seafood market, probably the best in Portland. But beware dont assume everything is fresh, you have to check it out before they wrap it up. In the past 2 years there were 4 times I've got haddock that was not up to their usual standards (1 of those times was 10 pounds for a special family dinner) but i have probably been there 120 times in my adult life. I still go and will continue

We stopped in on our way up the coast to the Moosehead Lake area a couple of weeks ago. We had called ahead to order some lobster, crab legs and scallops. When we arrived, they had everything boxed up for us and ready to go. Very friendly and accommodating staff! We added a few additional items at the store and they helped us pick everything out. It was very busy but I can see why - the seafood was excellent! We don't have a lot of practice cooking seafood but it all turned out amazing. They had partially cooked the lobster for us which I highly recommend - didn't want to transport live lobster. The freshest, sweetest, juiciest lobster I've ever had! Totally looking forward to stopping in on our next trip through!

You can't get seafood any fresher than this. The boats are unloaded from the Harbor to the back door. The people are very helpful and will offer suggestions to help you. If you want more ideas for how to prepare a variety of fresh seafood they published a great cookbook that has a section, Fish 101, that provides good information on the handling and preparation of seafood and about 90 pages of recipes. This business was established in the 1800's and has been owned by the same family since 1966. If you're looking for a great seafood market you can't go wrong here.

Seafood is a staple of our diets. Having a local seafood shop close by with fresh seafood is delightful. Less than a mile from the East End right on the harbor you get the freshest fairest priced seafood around. Summer gets busy so earlier in the day the better. Parking is tight but doable if you go early.

Harbor Fish Market is a local landmark. It is associated with a wholesale operation, and has consistently very fresh and well priced fish and shellfish. As an example I recently purchased beautiful and absolutely fresh sushi grade yellow fin tuna on sale at about $14 a pound. Unlike some other places in the area, sushi grade here means exactly what it says. They sometimes even have uni, sea urchin roe, for sale at ridiculously low prices. Their selection of oyters is incredible, but pricey, selling at a one price per any oyster of between $1.45 and $1.70, depending on the market. Also check out the local rope grown Bangs Island mussels. They sold by the two pound sack, tagged with the date of harvest. Recently got some that had been harvested the day before, and they were spectacular. I've had them almost a week old too, and they were still delicious. And, of course, they have live lobsters in tanks. These are not the sad looking, slow moving, half dead things that you might find in your supermarket or even the local lobster pounds in the off season. They are dark, fast moving creatures that are very much alive and very tasty. They will steam them for you on request. They also sell lobster meat.

Holy lobster!! Such a fun experience, watched the guy working to get the lobster in the tanks stop and answer questions from a kid asking about the live lobster. He then let the inquisitive child with smiling parents in tow, today some of the clawed water insects into the tank. It lit up the entire market. We sampled some smoked salmon, and bought it. The prices seemed fair and the staff was just the best. Check it out!

FRESH ocean fish from fillets, steaks, to fresh caught they clean and fillet to order. Shell fish, lobsters the works. They don't cook but provide ice as needed for travel. Can't get any fresher or better selection in the area. You may have to wait a minute for parking but it is available right outside the door.

Perfectly run COVID take out for fresh seafood.You can order on line and cal when you get there and they will bring it out OR you can wait ( 6 feet apart) in line on the boardwalk, place order and pay at the window, and they bring it out ( just tell them your car info). I got Faroe salmon steaks. The wait in my car was under 15 minutes. They offered to bad it in ice but I had a cooler. Definitely my favorite fresh fish shop!! Going back for oysters for the grill but labeling like this will be tough as I cant pick my own out

This really was a perfect location in the port. Many selections of fresh fish. The scallops were some of the sweetest I have had in years. Defiantly will be back to continue trying their large selection.

You can't find a better fish market in Maine. They always have a wide variety of fresh whole fish, shellfish and (of course) lobster. They also have some specialty items in their fridge/freezer including smoked fish & chowder. By the checkout counter they keep a nice supply of herbs, spices, sauces & fresh lemons that will pair perfectly with your fish purchase. The staff are pleasant & gladly filet your fish for you, as well as provide ice to keep your purchase cold. Getting in & out of the wharf to park is not always easy but less challenging if you have a smaller car.

I highly recommend Harbor Fish Market. Their seafood is always very fresh and the employees are professional. My only complaint is that I found a worm in my fresh haddock. Apparently, parasites are commonly found in fish in nature, so this can happen for haddock and cod. Although, it was unsettling to find a worm in my fish. Please inspect the fish better in the future. Other than this hiccup, I do still recommend Harbor Fish and I will return.

We need a harbor fish market in NY. We were traveling in a group of 4 and decided to stay in and cook dinner one night. It doesn't get easier than that. We don't have to decide what to eat, and there is no wait. We got (10)1 and 1/8 lobsters at $5.49/lb. That is a steal! Spent approx. 62 bucks on 10 lobsters that fed 4 girls. NOT BAD AT ALL. We steamed it 7 minutes and it came out perfectly. The lobster meat was tender and smooth and can tell the lobster was soo fresh. I would go back for the lobster.

Could probably get a tattoo of a haddock based on how much I've purchased from this market, but it's also always fun to stare at the overall selection and wish your horizons were wider. Jonah crab meat is often stocked, and I believe Sunday is their largest selection of whole fish. Laughing Bird shrimp, farm raised in Costa Rica, are also excellent for tacos and relatively inexpensive. They provide ice if you need it.

I truly enjoy places like Harbor Fish Market. Everyone is passionate about what they do and they have fantastic customer service. When you walk in, you'll see a long counter with dozens of different fish to choose from. To your left, you see lobster tanks with kickin' Maine lobsters. You'll also see a ton of buckets of oysters where you can pick and choose different types and take popsicle sticks with the type of oyster on it to give to the counter. On the right hand side are freezers where you can grab prepared food like calamari, crab cakes, etc. I was able to pick and choose what butterfish I wanted and the kind gentleman behind the counter helped to pack my fish in a to go box with a reusable icepack. I cannot wait to come back and see what's in stock!
