Reviews of Duckfat
Jennifer Chau
Hubby and I were restaurant hopping before our flight out of Portland. We went here mainly for the poutine. It was delicious, so I had to order extra fries. Their homemade cookies and cream shake was the best I've ever had. We also tried their grape soda and it was not bad. Staff were great and the place was very nice. Overall, a fantastic afternoon snack.
Sarah
Overall, an excellent experience and would highly recommend. Fries were super crunchy and amazing, but slightly over salted. Ham/bread/golden raisin mustard special was awesome. Lemon thyme spritzer and orange dream beverages, also wonderful. The beet special was wonderful, however not as cider forward as we expected and a bit spicy. Not many kid friendly options for smaller plates (I know they are not necessarily going for that crowd, but my kids aren’t super picky and can usually find something anywhere.)

I loved this place, it was definitely worth the 45min wait. The flight of sauces for the fries is a must-do, and the milkshake and sandwiches were absolutely delicious. We also had one of the friendliest and most upbeat servers I’ve ever met, he really made our experience great.

We really enjoyed Duckfat! It’s a smaller location and very popular so we waiting about 30 min to get in for lunch. They did a great job seating customers as quickly as possible. Our server was very friendly and gave us great recommendations. We ordered Belgian fries, house sodas, and paninis. The food was incredible! Can’t recommend this place enough if you’re in Portland.

Saw tons of blogs and sites recommending this place when I was researching Portland food spots and happy to say it was well worth the hype!!
We received very generous portions of the food we ordered and the fries were really really good!
I also liked the overall aesthetic and vibe of the restaurant and thought the staff was both friendly and helpful - as we had lots of questions and needed help with deciding what to order.

Great time here. The fries really are that good but the milkshake was the true start for me. It was absolutely delicious. Our waiter (unfortunately forgot his name but he was rocking a nice stache!) was insanely friendly and was just overall good vibes. This was my first time visiting and I’m sure to come back.

We were suggested this by a friend who tried it and raved. We are from out of state and ended up with the Cuban and turkey sandwiches with a large fry flight. Overall the food was pretty good, the atmosphere is much better. The Cuban was a bit bland as were some of the sauces (for $2.50 a flight) but overall was pretty decent.
Brian Vickery
Ridiculously good fries and fantastic Cuban sandwich. Maybe the best pork I've had on a Cuban. We've been to the Frites shack a few times before but this was the first time at the actual restaurant and it did not disappoint.
Zarina
Loved it here. Great experience. It's a nice contrast from all the lobster spots that I couldn't get enough of. I sat outside. Great vibes. Delicious food & drinks. Highly recommend.

Best fries in town! I have been missing out when they told me they have curry mustard on the side for their fries and it was AMAZING. I was always a ketchup kind-of-guy with my fries but I highly recommend you getting the curry with it. Their duck banh mi is also very good. Also give their crafted soda a try! It's not as sweet as the other sodas you would get

Great little gem in Portland! These two plates were the duck salad and the pork belly sandwich. I had the duck salad because I’m gluten intolerant, which personally wasn’t my cup of tea but that’s because I don’t really like kale - it was a well executed salad and everything in it went well together. But the pork belly sandwich was SO GOOD! We also got the tomato fennel soup which I thought was pretty good. Ryan was our server and worth noting - he was very personable, friendly, attentive, made great recommendations, and it didn’t take long at all for our food to come out. Definitely recommend!

You have to expect to wait an hour to be seated. Their seasonal featured menu is what is best. Cubano sandwich was the best I've had in a long time. They are a tourist spot and know it, so their prices will reflect it. Limited drink menu. Locally sourced ✅️
Sarah Jahn
Get the fries with 5 dipping sauces! Probably the best fries I've ever had. I also had a panini which was excellent. Very small space for sitting and we shared a space with other diners. Parking is only on the street or metered lot. You'll have to wait in line, but it's worth it.
Ashlina Chin
Fun atmosphere and delicious food! We practically inhaled our duck confit poutine - it was perfect. We also split a smoked turkey panini and each got a craft soda. On top of the great food, our service was excellent. The hostess was very good. She knew a few of the parties were finishing up and said the wait was going to be much shorter than expected, and she was right. We enjoyed every minute there, so we highly recommend it!

Stopped in Portland for lunch on the way back home on a long drive, and got recommended this place from a friend. Arrived at noon on a Sunday, put our names down for a table and then walked over to Heritage Seaweed and Coffee By Design for the 45 min wait, got back just as our table was ready. We got the poutine, large fries (can’t have too many fries), tomato fennel soup and mushroom toast special. All were amazing, some of the best poutine and tomato soup we’ve ever tasted. Friendly service, beautiful ambience, keen to come back to try the paninis one day. Highly recommended and totally worth the wait! Especially since you can stroll around and come back later.
Dan Barrett
Nice fun time. I took the "healthy" option and went with a nice salad with smoked duck. The fries are amazing and the sauce options are exquisite, can't just pick one.
Side note: the wall has magnetic poetry, so have fun with that while you wait for your delicious food and drinks.
Karley Bates
My husband and I ate here while visiting Portland! We came for the fries, but were so impressed by the kind staff and amazing service! They also have wonderful gluten and dairy free accommodations!!
K C
Incredibly busy! The inside is really small and crowded. Hard to move around. The menu is small and does not really have a lot of items with duck fat in it. It is mainly their fries.
Don’t get me wrong, I like me som who’d fries but $10 for a cup was a bit much. The texture was spot on. Good job! However they were lacking flavor.
The menu really only had some paninis which were good but had more of a lunch type feel.
They also charge a service charge for eating in. Excuse me?!?
Mallory Whitt
If you’re wondering if it’s worth waiting 30+ minutes for french fries? Yes. Yes, it is. We were lucky enough to sit outside and enjoy Ryan’s delightful service. We were greeted promptly and with smiles. We ordered a salad, large fries with 2 dips, and a panini. Ryan made sure our food was delivered as ordered while making everyone laugh. This was an experience we will giggle about for many years to come because it was just so positive and entertaining. It was for sure worth the hype and wait.

Oh my gosh!!! So good. Perfect fall cozy brisk day comfort food. Came in for an early dinner which was the move because by 5 there were people starting to pile up. Small area to sit but so worth it. Our server was very enthusiastic about everything and the food was amazing. Got the poutine (best I’ve ever had), BGT w farm greens, and the tomato soup!!!
TheLeakingGenius
I love me some duck so obviously I loved this place! The salad was great and the sandwich was greater. I asked if the duck was local since I saw some ducks out in the pond across the road, but the server didn't get my joke.. Anyways, good food and nice little restaurant with some great ambience. Definitely a place to visit more than once for me when I'm in the area.
Stan Arnold
Very small, but big on flavor and service. Parking is a challenge, but well worth it!! They are notorious for their duck fat fries which are awesome. Their donut holes are to die for. The duck fat Banh Mi packs a little heat, but is so good. Would definitely be back!!!
Tanya Perugini
I have seen DUCKFAT many times on food channels and could not wait to check this restaurant off my bucket list !
Upon entering , we were immediately seated , and had the best experience ever! The restaurant itself is quaint , great decor and vibe . My family and I had the best waiter named Ryan , who was fun, and super entertaining!
My daughter had the poutine with duck confit and fried egg ! Best poutine ever !
My husband had the lobster sandwich , which was also perfect , and I had the green goodness salad with bacon and avacado . My son shared his Oreo milkshake, which was enough for all 4 of us!!! We will definitely be back !
Alan
The fries are excellent. They have a thin crispy skin that tastes so satisfyingly delicious from the duck fat, while the potato insides are soft and light. For the poutine, the cheese curds are soft and fresh, while the gravy isn’t overpowering but a tad too salted. The cream of tomato soup is super fresh, and has a kick of fennel that vaguely tastes like star anise.
Aodhan
LUVD Duckfat and their awesome team. I mean team because everyone was working as a team and very efficiently - amazing. We had a lot of food here. Started with Brussels sprouts with a huge amount of bacon pieces; and the turnips - absolutely delicious with a creamy sauce and balsamic sauce. Of course had the large duck fries too with dinner. The brisket sandwich was awesome with some delectable sauce that kissed the palate with surprise on every bite. The poutine had the largest cheese curds ever seen on poutine, the fries were perfect and the sauce was sweet and salty. Finished off the night with Duckfats signature donuts which came to a total of 6. And a perfect caramel sauce for dipping. Also bought the tshirt! Thank you team Duckfat
Tom Wojcik
Very welcoming ... Guy at the host desk was very welcoming. Told us the latest time we would be seated, and came out later to check on us.
Great food ... BEST lobster roll in Portland. Who needs a hot dog bun, the taste is much more important. Wife loved her chocolate milkshake. Make sure that you get the fries.
Excellent service ... We sat on stools at the bar. Our server, Josh, doubled as the bartender. Fantastic service.
Travis Luck
I have been waiting to try Duckfat for close to 3 years now when I was planning my first trip to Portland before covid struck. After a few other cancelled trips, I was so excited but worried I’d put Duckfat on such a high pedestal that there’s no way it could reach those expectations. But my gawd, it did and exceed them. Ryan our server was the man, and the overall vibe was great. Definite Portland restaurant must

Duckfat is a Portland staple for a reason. It’s always delicious! The staff are awesome. I normally go for the Cubano, the poutine, and a flight of sauces to dip your fries in.
The only issue with Duckfat is the wait times for getting a table. They have luckily expanded outside and have a lot of extra tables under heat lamps. They also use these super cool seat warmers from Hüga Heat that keep you super warm.
It’s not a fault of their own but plan ahead before you go for dinner because you might be waiting! Today we didn’t wait more than 10 mins but any warm weekend you could wait 2+ hours!
Samuel Lee
I have heard about this place from so many people and perhaps went into it with unmeetable expectations. That being said, they do have very solid food! The cookies and cream shake was fantastic and I liked the turkey sandwich a lot. The fries are great but too salty to eat much of. And the cubano has great smokey flavor but they could have been more generous with pork.
Caitlin
Always stop here when I'm up in Portland – matter of fact, I come to Portland just to stop here. My go-to order is the large Poutine with both the duck egg and the duck meat and I can’t help but finish the whole thing. Absolutely delicious and highly recommend.
Get here early and be prepared to wait! If the wait is long enough, put your name down and go around the corner to Shipyard for a flight of beer.
Adriel Orozco
Great service. We tried the creamsicle soda, duck confit banh mi, beets and fries. The creamsicle and beets were great, very refreshing after a long walk. I thought the fries were good, perfectly seasoned, crispy and with great sauces but I think I read into the hype too much because I wasn’t wowed by them. The banh mi was ok but rather pricy for what it was.
Katie Yao
Got take out and only took 20 minutes or so to have the order come out. Ordered the large fries, cubano, green goddess salad, house smoked turkey panini, the doughnut holes, blueberry milkshake, original milkshake, and poutine.
The paninis were crispy and fresh. Fries were amazing. Probably the most flavorful ones with the perfect crunch and soft texture of the potatoes. Milkshakes were creamy and nice balance of vanilla/blueberry. Poutine was okay.
Jeff Li
Love this place, but it's a very popular place, expect 1 hour wait. Ryan the server was awesome and fun, we love every dishes we ordered which were the large poutine with added Duck confit, pull pork panini, did wish the pull pork was more flavored, bahn mi panini, tomato fennel, and the donut hole, maybe can skip the donut hole, I'm not a fan of the dough, it's really the sauce that kept the sweet. A must if you go to Portland Maine.
MacKenzie Parrish
TBH everything is better with duck fat. I'm a stickler for how my egg is cooked and they did a perfect job without prior note. The blueberry milkshake had great flavor, especially with the addition of the house made caramel. 10/10 would drive 3 hours again.
Katie Quintero
Do yourself a favor and order the caramel duck fat shake. It was genuinely amazing and I would absolutely get it again. It definitely gets 5 stars. 🥰 The tight seating is why I'm giving Duckfat 4 stars (consider it a 4.5). Can't fault them for being so popular (we waited 45 min for a table), but everything being community seating (even in a booth if you're a smaller party) is a bit strange and makes it a hard to have a private conversation/not feel intruded upon while you're eating.
Sharon Bao
Really great brunch spot. The food was yummy the staff was friendly, and decor was really cute. This may be a matter of personal preference, but I found the food to be a little too rich for me to finish. It's not to say that it wasn't delicious! I recognize that this place is called Duck Fat, but I do wish the plates/menu could have been a little more balanced.
Captain Mike
Taste-tastic! Very cool delicious food. Fun variety of duck related cuisine. Great decor and atmosphere. Loved it.
Hassan Chehab
This is a damn good place and a must for any non-vegetarians coming to Portland. For Christ's sake, they have sea salt caramel duck fat milkshakes. Come here for lunch and you will be all set for the rest of the day. The food is so incredibly rich and dense. I'm ready to roll up into a ball and go to sleep.
Kt Lloyd
Service is amazing. On point.
Very strange that they save the two inside booths for pick up.
We had the poutine plain and it was amazing and salty goodness.
All of us had paninis, the turkey, the bgt, the duck banh mi. By far the bgt was the best one put of the three.
Highly recommend.
Nick
After a bit of a wait in their lounge area we were able to get into enjoying their unique to the area eats.
Their beer selection is definitely on point, and their rotation of seasonal was appreciated.
The soup surprised me as I usually don’t care for Fennel but the way they incorporate it had me rethinking my feelings towards to Fennel.
The poutine was a solid muncher and curds were not overpowering or too much at all.
Highlight for me was the dipping sauce for the donut holes. So good 😊
Reese Hansen
Dine in right now (Dec 2021) is outside in a covered structure, with heaters and warming cushions. They don't take reservations and have just a few tables so prepare for a decent wait strolling around the area.
The wait is worth it. Everything we had was amazing and came out quickly. The tomato fennel soup was a nice warm up on a day full of freezing rain. The poutine and duck bahn mi were fantastic, milkshake to die for, and the cider braised beets I want again!!
Eric Mundt
Duckfat is a must try while in Portland. The fry cut, texture, and seasoning are tops. But the secret killer pro tip is to pay the $1 and get some extra dipping sauces ... Truffle ketchup, garlic mayo, Thai chili mayo... So good!
And rest assured, the servers are friendly and cool too.
Tiffany Tran
Recommended by a friend as the best place to visit for lunch in Portland. Known for their famous duck fat fries, they also serve a variety of delicious paninis and local ales. Finally, try one of their milkshakes made with local gelato! They have a patio area that is dog friendly.
Octane Rampage
Those Belgian Fries are my new favorite for fries! I can see why this place is popular, and the're people waiting outside in line before the place opens. The House Smoked Pulled Pork Cubano w/ mustard pickles, swiss cheese, garlic-mustard mayo is amazing. The Wild Blueberry shake was really really good. 15 out of 10 stars for my first experience. Go there early before they open to get in there! Definitley the best fries to try in this state.
Nia Rankin
We enjoyed our time at duck fat. The servers were cheerful and the food was delicious. They did an amazing job creating interesting flavor profiles.
Matt Hannifin
We went to Duckfat today 4/9/22 and as advertised it was amazing! Chef Rob Evans outdoes himself with this cozy, casual, mildly hipster vibe restaurant. This was our first time coming here but once I peeked at the menu I knew I HAD to come. If you are coming for lunch or dinner make sure to call ahead or better yet make a reservation because this place is...HOT. When I say cozy I mean it, you will meet your seat neighbors. The absolute thing you MUST get is one of their milkshakes (which are actually Gelato shakes) they mix it with Creme Anglaise, you know the same stuff you would use for Créme Brule! We tried their salted duckfat caramel shake and the cookies and cream shake the sensation and mouth feel is indescribably smooth. Duckfat fries with Harissa aoli and Thai chile aoli were next which also did not disappoint, they make their mayo from scratch in house. The special of the day was Roasted Lamb Panini with sun roasted tomatoes, harissa, and goat cheese which was particularly good. Everything was small plates so you're encouraged to share a little of everything. Seriously try this place and get your grub on!
Ashley
We ordered the poutine with duck confit. We enjoyed it, but we don't think we would have without the duck confit - the fries weren't as flavorful as we were expecting from a place that specializes in them. I think it could have used some spice; I really only tasted salt.
M L
This is amazing place! *Belgian* fries and Lobster Roll were amazing. Panini and poutine were also great- if you order poutine dont forget to add a duck egg!!🍳 …
AlaDollar
We ordered salad, belgian fries with truffle ketchup sauce, and Poutine.
Queued for 45 mins to get a table on Friday evening.
Jeff Allen
Pretty much stands up to the claims of being a a great place. Staff was awesome, wait time was decent for a Monday evening and food was really really good. The Poutine was off the chain good. The beer and craft soda was also worthy of the hype. Portland has a winner with Duckfat.
Andrew Garcia
My first meal in Portland and it did not disappoint! I think the fries lived up to the hype and the duck banh mi panini was so good! Small dining space, but friendly helpful staff make it work! Side note: Kinda feel like fries should come with the sandwich because you end up spending $25+ if you want a sandwich and a small fry. That said, writing this makes me want the fries again. Haha. Go and enjoy!
Emily Walsh
Come for the fries, stay for the beets, skip the sandwiches. Hour wait 3 pm Saturday, which is fine, tons to stroll around and see. Fries are great, favorite sauce Thai aoili, best beet dish ever.
James
Great menu, lively ambience and fun staff who clearly believe in their product and enjoy their work. Fries, cubano and original milkshake. Slam dunk. Everyone I spoke with at the bar raved about their orders as well (all different!)
Micaela Last Name
Our waiter was such a fun human. He was outgoing and witty, and delivered our food with a smile and pizzazz. The poutine is incredible. I was a little disappointed to learn the duckfat is cut with canola oil, but it is still delicious. We also tried the house soda and I had the ceasar salad. I would recommend both.
Kari Bily
This place lived up to the hype. Fries were delicious, 2 of us split a large order of poutine, a cubano panini and milkshake and we left just on the other side of full. Little pricey but you are getting what you pay for. Delish! We will be back!
Tanya Lawrence
As mentioned and needless to say, one can expect a wait. Paging system is a savior though [responsive up to a 2-mile radius, I believe] so we happily brewery-hopped until we were paged. Seating was hands-down some of the most congested I've experienced as of late, so prepare to get intimate with your neighbors, provided you're a smaller party! (not an issue, personally...) Service and staff were stellar. Poutine [and wine pours] were worth the wait. Looking forward to visiting the frite shack extension at OXBOW during a return.

I had a layover in Portland Maine and my fiancé recommended me to go to Duck Fat for a meal! I am glad I decided to go in the snow and it was the perfect meal for a cold evening. I ordered the cream of tomato fennel soup with grilled cheese croutons and a small order of the poutine with duck confit! The soup was delicious and you could taste the fennel. The grilled cheese croutons definitely elevated the soup. Lastly, the poutine was probably the best poutine I have ever had because of the flavor combo of all the ingredients. The fries were well seasoned and prepared, the cheese curds gave the dish a heavy savory flavor, and the duck confit was tender and cooked to perfection! I definitely recommend this restaurant! 10/10!
Cache Hancey
Excellent experience. What a welcoming place for dinner for our only night in Portland. Great menu options, fantastic atmosphere, and wonderful staff.
Everything was executed perfectly.
Jake Kathryn Buchan Campbell
Such a fun and unique experience! Food was great and had unique combinations of local produce and fruit and delicacies. Lobster roll, soup, fries with flight of sauces, wedge salad, and milkshakes ... So much fun!
Alex Albert
The original milkshake was incredible, the fries were pretty good. We both really did not like the smoked brisket sandwich… After waiting an hour 15 for a table it was a little disappointing.
Tony Babecka
The poutine with the duck confit was delicious! This is an absolute must order in you eat here!
The seating area is extremely tight and I wish they had heaters outside.
They also add a 3% kitchen service charge to all tickets. Do the servers not tip share with the kitchen? Is the kitchen service being underpaid by the restaurant and this makes up the difference? I've worked in restaurants before and we would set aside a certain percentage of our tips because without them working hard, we look bad. Would rather see this or just raise menu prices. I would have given a higher tip without the 3% service fee.
If you are in the area and like a twist on poutine, give it a try!
Britney Patterson
Just... wow. French fries were probably the best I have ever had. Coast to coast, 3 countries... my god were these good. Their doughnut holes were also worth writing home about.
Deborah Lee
Duckfat lives up to the hype. We went within 15 minutes of opening time on a Monday and managed to snag a table in the outdoor patio. Beautiful seasonal dishes like the summer salad was so refreshing and light before the poutine. Highly recommend the poutine with the confit duck on top. Great duckfat flavor from the fries, generous portions as well. Shakes were good, and the smoked turkey panini had great textures and taste. Everything was great, service was fast and efficient, and they provide shade, benches, and water for folks waiting in line.
jackson hasty
Get here early or be prepared to wait a while in the summer. Absolutely amazing poutine and other items, worth any wait and well worth the price. If you do get in and have to wait, they have those little poetry magnets and I had a good time making crude haikus.
Andrew Sunada
Wonderful restaurant in the middle of Portland. They use duckfat in most of their dishes and the duck was good quality.
We had duck parfit mixed in with out poutine.
They don't take reservations and seemed to often be super busy.
The staff were friendly, helpful, and they had some nice ASTRO terf in the outdoor lounge
Elizabeth Harke
It's small inside so the wait was quite long. I'd say it's worth it. They give out buzzers so you can wander around while you wait. They were right on for the predicted time we were to be seated. The duckfat poutine with duck confit was delicious and worth every calorie!
Amber Watches
We're visiting from out of state, and found DuckFats menu a month ago, and just started counting down the days! Ryan was such a delight to have as our server and made our experience all the more better. Arm in sling even- he was an exceptional server/staff member!! We ordered the poutine, dressed all the way up with the added duck confit nd fresh egg! Hot Diggity Damn that was a win- best bite of food of the week for sure! Also- dont sleep on those soups, tried them both and they were superb. Go ahead and order the sauce flight too- you're welcome!
Vivianna Boiles-Leonard
The duck was amazing which made everything pretty great. The only issue I had, which in my opinion is important, is the poutine was sorely lacking in gravy. I think the fries were exceptional and so was the duck but I just couldn’t get past the almost absent gravy. That just isn’t a poutine, so in conclusion, the poutine was the best loaded fries I’ve ever had.
Lev Starikov
Cant believe how good the food is here. Was honestly suprised that paninis could be so incredibly flavorful, the cubano panini has smoked pork that you can honestly appreciate the smokiness of the pork!!! The poutine here is banging. Loved the tomato soup.
Sheli Reddix
DELICIOUS FOOD... FUN WAIT STAFF... GREAT ATMOSPHERE!! We had Poutine & a turkey Panini. Both were delicious!!! The chocolate caramel sea salt shake was SOOOOOO YUMMY!!!! YA gotta go!!!

My husband and I came back here this past weekend and it was great, per usual. We went early afternoon to put our name in and had a 1.5 wait (totally worth the wait, you can walk around the city to kill time) We we’re seated at the bar and our server was super friendly and attentive. We got the coffee and blueberry shake. The coffee shake was deliciously strong tasting and the blueberry was fresh and not too sweet. The fries were perfectly made and we love the garlic mayo to dip them into. We both got the duck bahn mi and it was delicious. The bread was crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. The sharp flavor of the pickled veggies went well with the duckfat (no pun intended) will always come back here in the future. Also, you can tell the place is organized and the staff runs a tight ship while respecting each other
WA K
Sorry Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto but this is the best poutine I’ve ever had. Potatoes fried in duck fat held their crispy rss and form under a pile of confit duck and duck gravy. This was my “dessert” after a full meal at BaoBao and we could have downed a second plate. The one essential plate I had in Portland that I’ll be back to next time.
Shima
This place was just amazing! The food was super SUPER delicious, the server was social, kind and super cool. They were kind and gave amazing suggestions for pairing the food and drink. And I really liked how cozy and beautiful everything was.
I highly recommend this place!
justin shields
Their duckfat poutine is out of this world. Great sandwiches too, the duck bahn mì was delicious. Also have very good milkshakes and good beer selection.
Sarah Kremen
Everything was exceptional! We finished the poutine in less than 2 minutes (make sure you add the duck confit). I find that many restaurants add too much gravy to poutine which results in soggy fries, but these fries were perfection. The bread on the duckfat bahn mi was so fresh and crispy. The doughnut holes were so unusual, but in the best way. They had an incredibly crunchy exterior, yet the interior almost tasted like a lemon pound cake. We got to the restaurant 20 minutes before opening time and there were already 4-5 families in front of us, so get there early! This stop must be on your bucket list whenever you travel to Portland.
Jaya Goindani
A must go if you are in Portland. They do not take reservations so you will have to come in and put your name on the list. Do try their famous duckfat fries and shakes.
QQ M
First time during quarantine time! They already opened up for dining in. We did stay for lunch and sat outside! The service was great! We ordered a large fries with 4 different sauces.... but I ended liking the ketchup the most . We also ordered brisket and duck paninis. I definitely like the brisket panini more than the duck paninis because the filling was more than just meat!
Kristopher Thompson
Our pilgrimage for the fries here is now complete and they didn't disappoint. Poutine was perfect. Wedge salad wonderful. Lobster roll was the best, unique version of itself that it could be. Milk shakes and homemade sodas magnificent. Would highly recommend. Plan for up to an hour and a half wait for a seat, but you can visit the surrounding blocks during that time.
Anamika Jha
Love the food here! Everything we tried was really good. The servers are super nice , do listen to their recommendations. You will not be disappointed
Laura Beth Wallace
Very rich food, but the milkshakes are delicious and they really do the things they do well. We got poutine with a chicken egg, tomato soup, the Oaxacan brisket panini, and two milkshakes--the Original and a Blueberry Cream.
Kris Palmby
Heard about the Fritz here from a Tv show.. made the trip and it was worth it.
They're delicious and the shakes are amazing!! If you're in or around Portland check them out!
C
Duck fat fries are yummy! We got a large fries and the sauces (truffle ketchup and garlic mayo). It was very good and shared amongst with a few other friends. We finished it within like 5 minutes! I heard great reviews about this place and will try other foods another time!

Poutine, good poutine. Sandwich and fries were good too. Good local beer selection. Service was quick and friendly. Only critique is it is a tight fit.
Josh Raikin
A truly exceptional meal! Only a 30 minute wait at around 6:15pm, but we heard it go to 1 hour wait by 6:45pm. Ordered a small poutine for 2 people. So delicious could honesty have gotten a large, but portion size was good. Two of us each had a sandwich. Got the brisket and the duck ban mi. Absolutely delicious food and excellent wait staff! Even gave us a second sauce for free which was so nice!
Davis R
1 hr wait was ABSOLUTELY worth it! We had duck fries (get it with thai chili mayo and truffle ketchup), smoked turkey panini, tomato soup and windbreaker IPA from the local Mast brewery. If you are in Portland Maine, you must visit here at least once or even better over and over again.
Nelson ns
I got the duck bah mi panini and it was pretty good. The bread was a little too crispy which makes it hard for me to bite into but the flavors are amazing. And their fries with truffle ketchup is delicious!!!
Anna S
Can't say enough good things about this place. Everything was perfect. Food tasted so clean and had tons of flavor, highly recommend!
A Gordon
The lobster roll was delicious, very fresh and balanced flavor. The pork sandwich was not to our liking; the pork had a Very intense flavor that you will either like or dislike we were unfortunately the latter. The fries are very good and we did the flight of sauces. The price is up there but not unaffordable.
S
The pountine fries were amazing especially with the duck confit! They were full of flavor and had a mix of textures. The banh mi was not too bad but it was on the drier side. They did have a long wait for seating despite having outdoor seating so we ended up buying takeout.
Sarah Cooke
Duckfat was amazing! Love the atmosphere of the outdoor seating. We went there for dinner, so the wait was about an hour, but they gave us a buzzer and we walked to a new a nearby brewery for a beer while we waited.
We got the duckfat poutine with an egg on it and oh my goodness it was delicious. The entrees are great as well - got the brisket sandwich and the banh mi, and the drink selection is pretty good. We were too full to get dessert, but the milkshakes looked so good. Next time! Highly recommend this place if you're visiting Portland, but definitely be prepared to wait a while.
Robbie Christian
This restaurant is exceptional. It has a creative menu, and everything I tasted exceeded my expectations. For the fries, I recommend the flight of dipping sauces. I would absolutely return. I encourage everyone to get there when they open; we arrived about 10 minutes after opening (on a Saturday) and snagged the last open table. By the time we left, I overheard that the wait time was over 90 minutes.
V Carrasco
Life-changing culinary experience! Came here with my family, and we were simply blown away by the wonderful service, and one of a kind depth of flavor in every dish. From their signature fries with a flight of decedent sauces, the outstanding tomato fennel duck fat soup, and incredibly delicious Poutine. The Sea Salt Caramel milkshake is a must have, as well as the Duckfat Banh Mi panini. I assure you, if there is anywhere you need to try in Portland, it’s this amazing establishment!!

Craft Sodas (grape soda & roots, bark, and sticks) - homemade craft sodas is something I actually haven’t seen before. I didn’t know what to expect. Super fresh flavors. Grape soda was like a summery non-alcoholic super-chilled red wine.
Duckfat fried shishitos -
The fresh lime squeeze elevates these to another level.
Belgian fries -
THE TRUFFLE KETCHUP. I would legit buy my own truffle pig just to recreate it. YUM. Spend the extra bucks to try the sauce flight, worth figuring out which flavor fits your fancy!
Open faced lobster sandwich - first off, it’s good! But given the location and accessibility, if you’re going for a lobster roll type of sandwich, I would recommend skipping this to save room for something else on the menu. For a lobster sandwich, again!, it is good and has some good chunks but it’s nothing extraordinary.
Oaxacan style smoked brisket -
As a Mexican living in austin, Texas… this has my seal of approval. The flavors in this little sandwich can’t be explained. It’s Smokey, has a small punch or spice, is crispy, and has a layer of flavorable sauce that oozes out wfith every bite. 10/10 recommend.
J M
Amazing food & solid beer selection. Small place but definitely worth a visit.
Tabitha Kirk
Can't give this place enough praise. Everything is fried in DUCKfat, so give it a try. The fries alone are worth it (they make their own mayo for the aoili). The Blueberry buttermilk milkshake is amazing. And the donut holes are possibly the best I've ever had.
Michael
Food was great overall. Dips for the frites were so-so but the tomato soup was phenomenal. Lobster roll was also amazing but duck banh mi was not as flavorful as hoped. Cool spot and def recommend!
Max B
So dank- the garlic Mayo was the best I’ve ever had and the fries were to die for. The shishitos were good but I didn’t care for the Thai curry vinaigrette with them. 100% recommend this spot!
Tyler Cini
Every bite was superb. Get the poutine, and don't skimp on adding the confit. Regional potato donut holes fried in that namesake duck fat are a perfect finish to the meal.
Waits can be long in the time of COVID with the indoor seating closed, but if you can time it right get there to order take out instead and just sit at the (some covered) picnic tables they've provided, it's a great hack!
Lucas Oliver
Duckfat is amazing. With delicious fries, paninis, and shakes, you can’t possibly go wrong.
Brian Wesolowski
The absolute best fries and a great take on a lobster roll. Super busy and bustling, but the hostess did an incredible job of managing the seating and the wait staff was top notch. Indulge at the end with the duck fat donuts - the hint of orange is perfection. Worth the wait!
Tank Fox
This place has a great local reputation and lives up to it. The fries are out of this world and the sauce flight is worth the extra three dollars.
I had a Cubano that had a nice fresh cold smoking right in the kitchen and was thick with flavor grease. As good as it was it was even better the next morning as leftovers so if they ever want to just put up an after hours sandwich vending machine they could keep making money all night.
Jill M
I don't even know where to begin...this was my first meal in Portland and I must say it was a winner from the get go! Was greeted by Ryan at the front door who was super friendly and was able to seat me right away at the bar area. Josh took care of me from there. I ordered the fries with 2 dipping sauces, a delicious tuna tartare dish, 2 drinks, their signature milkshake and the fried donut holes. I honestly want to return to sample some of the other items on their menu! The ambiance is great, the food is fantastic and the service is incredible! I highly recommend if you are in the area!
Nadya Rojas
One if my favorite places to go when I come to Portland. The poutine is amazing!
Tyson
What a great find! We came across Duckfat on our Spring Break road trip. We started off with a Mast Landing Gunner's Daughter milk stout - very tasty! Our entrees included the Duckfat Wedge salad with house smoked duck breast and the Poutine with a sunny side up egg. Both were very good! Friendly service, nice atmosphere - we sat in a covered area with heaters mounted above us. It was a cold, windy day but we stayed nice and comfortable. Would definitely return!
Jason Bradway
Good food but the service has issues. We were served the flight of sauces with the fries even though I ordered the sauces we wanted. It's a small $3 charge but annoying. The waiter working the patio felt the need to make a dramatic entrance every 30 seconds. Overall the attitude is "You're lucky to be eating here".
Julie Stevens
Was major on my list. Fries were delish. Flight was worth it.
I came simply for the fries. Got a small with a flight of dipping sauces. That was fun. Got to try them all and really enjoyed discovering my favorite.
They're good fries. I wouldn't stop my life to drive there for them, but I would totally eat them again if in the area.
Good service. They had an outdoor line that looked like it could get long. (wasn't for us in mid June.)
Cute shirt too but MAJOR disappointed they didn't have the super cute drunk duck on an adult shirt. Why they chose to only have that on kids shirts, I have no idea. I hope I can get one on a shirt for me one day.
Jani Valkonen (JayValkyr)
As funny as it may sound, Duckfat was one of the first pre-planned destinations for our trip to Portland. I was here back in 2017 and instantly fell in love with it.
Wesley Yu
Large outdoor seating area that's under a tent. They have a waiting area where you can buy drinks while you wait.
Server said that they're known for their fries, poutine, paninis and shakes.
We had all of those but the shakes. The duck banh mi really stood out from a flavor perspective. The cubano and brisket were also good.
The fries and the poutine were also good but hard to get those wrong!
Ayon Ibrahim
Fries were really good but not particularly amazing or anything, as far as we can tell. Would’ve loved to sit down and have some of the more interesting stuff off the menu but the wait was just too long.
Chris Thornton
Amazing food and service. Poutine, fries, and the donut holes with duck fat caramel dipping sauce were highlights. Sparkling wine made from Maine blueberries was dry and surprisingly delicious. Highly recommended, but make sure to come early and plan to grab a cocktail next door or at Cocktail Mary while you wait 1-1.5 hrs for a table (they give you a buzzer).
Sarah T
Only ordered fries to go. Read about the fries being so great so tried them out. They are freshcut and that is what I love. As far as being able to tell they were cooked in a different oil, no flavor change I could tell. Since they take the time cook fresh cut fries I would like to try more stuff from their menu.
Austin Robinson
Delicious fries... good tomato soup... I'm full.
A great small place with a friendly atmosphere.
Barbara Martin
The best poutine I've ever had and our server was exceptional. Can't wait to go back!
Kyle McFerren
We waited maybe 20-30 minutes for a table on a Monday night, but it was well worth the wait. Poutine was very good, although not quite as life-changing as some had made it out to be. The brisket sandwich was amazing and the other sandwiches on the menu looked really good too. My favorite part though was the "original" duckfat milkshake -- possibly the best milkshake I've ever had.
Matthew Garner
Food 10/10 can’t imagine better fries or milkshakes. If you have 1 day in Portland you should spend it here. I had the duck fat poutine, the brisket sandwich, and a milkshake and none of them disappointed. I imagine the only complaint would be that the wait is long, but I would say that the best things in life are worth waiting for, and Duckfat falls into that category.
Josh Arcaro
Very hip, tasty, & packed little restaurant in an ever changing city! Food & drink options are awesome. Staff very attentive & hospitable. Definitely recommend walking in to get a seating list. They are always packed but give you a buzzer that has a 2 block radius, go grab drinks at another bar or sightsee. Will be back for sure!
Aggie CH
Unique. Close to where we stayed. And tried Belgian fry’s and poutine almost immediately after our breakfast.
Lillian Bui
Tried their poutine with duck confit. A small was the perfect amount for an afternoon snack for two. We also got the cookies and cream milkshake which they were nice enough to split into two cups for us. Both were really good!
Justin Komninos
Make sure you get some fries!!!! They are the best fries on the planet. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, the site was beautifully decorated, and the paninis were amazing. I live in Florida and it is very disappointing this shop is just in Maine..
Liz Bell
Traveling from TX. Had to wait awhile in the rain. Luckily we found cover for 30 min. Worth the wait. Small place. We sat at the bar. I had salad w duck on top. Yummy. Hubby had the special French fries with all that on top. He liked too. We even bought a t-shirt. One waiter was from our area in Dallas. So that was cool 😎
Matt Briggs
Food was great and our server (Owen) was fantastic. Try the craft sodas and the poutine. There’s always a bit of a wait, so don’t get in a hurry. It’s well worth it.
Perks Advisor
This is the place of crowds and very long waits. Success has been good to Duckfat. While I found the food to be very good, I am not quite sure I would wait 1.5 hours again. To their credit the servers were great and you can have a drink at the outside bar or two. My panini was perfectly toasted and the duck very flavorful. I had the gravy and curds on my fries, but my personal preference next time will be without. Fun place if you do not mind the wait.
PKMD Adventure
Amazing spot, fantastic food and the kindest staff! Worth a stop whenever you're in the area! Everything is super tasty, excellent beer selection! And they have a spot for some quick pick up if you're on the go!
Clara DV
Came in at 11:00 as we were told it would get busy, and I would agree as it got crowded shortly after.
Had the poutine with duck confit. Small was enough for us as we didn’t want anything too big. They had a decent selection of beers as well.
Overall enjoyed it and the staff was very nice!
Iris Ouellette
Legitimately some of the best food I've had in my life. A must in Portland.
Jim Elsenbeck
We wanted take out but this location doesn't provide that and the take out location was closed today. So we decided to just wait 1.5 hrs and eat a bit before taking it with us. That was okay, during the wait we did some other sightseeing.
First the good stuff: The fries were delicious. Very compatible to the ones I had from numerous frites vendors in Belgium (Ghent, Brugges, Brussels, etc). Very slightly overcooked, a darker tan with some very brown and crunchy. If I never had experienced frites before on taste alone these would be a 5. But with the slight overcook, maybe a 4 is more appropriate. The truffle ketchup was very tasty, but we both preferred the garlic mayo. (After Belgium, I rarely have ketchup on my fries)
We also had the Original milkshake. Simply amazing. Definitely a 5 rating.
Our server was very pleasant and efficient, and knowing we were planning to take everything out was helpful to take payment quickly.
So why is my overall rating only 3 stars? We'll, because I believe we were served the dregs from the fryer. Complete honesty - the top of the serving basket had about 5-6 fries that were 2"-3" long and they were surrounded by pieces ranging in size from burnt crumbs to maybe 1". I thought maybe when they dumped out the basket the larger pieces would be on the bottom. No such luck. A few more 2"-3" and everything else was essentially pieces. Unless they use those little gourmet potatoes for the fries there is no reasonable explanation.
Update: my wife had a photo that I had to crop myself out of but you can see the fries
We aren't the complaining type of people, we prefer to just let others know via reviews. And we were taking most of it to go and expected larger fries lower in the serving basket. A restaurant that bases itself on its fries should know better and have much better quality control. Seriously, about 3/4 of the serving basket were pieces less than 1" long.
Would we go back? Yes. But if the fries look anything like this we would be asking for a different serving. And I never like doing that with any kitchen (payback fear).
Wayne Jordan
Worth the visit for the experience. Fries were great. We waited about 45mins for seats. Service was good.
Alessandro Cardito
The wait was insane…the waitress signed us up for 30’ and we waited 1h…the poutine was good- the sandwich not that much- too spicy and crunchy. The lobster sandwich was crazy expensive- 30$ for a slice of white bread with some lobster on it…
Justin Kyle Tanner
Small place so be ready to wait. Friendly staff and a small menu but don't be fooled. I would go with the tomato soup and the Poutine with added Duck.
FOUR YEARS LATER…still going here. The small poutine is a great portion for someone hungry but not wanting to get full. Craft non-alcoholic bevs are great!
Maggie Ives
The place is very popular. Go early or expect to wait.
Great fries, and milkshakes. I had a cherry phosphate. I haven't had one of those for 50 years. We went back for a t shirt and more fries!
Jaylla Marie
Little expensive but honestly so worth everything! Food was amazing & so was dessert ( the doughnut holes) server was so polite, energetic & funny... Even was kind enough to take a picture of me & my husband as it was our first time( even while it was raining, just a little bit still appreciated it so much!)
Gerrit Kruidhof
Amazing delicious tiny place I'd been meaning to try for years and was not disappointed in the least.
The kids ordered chocolate shakes and poutine, as expected. Those both were devoured quickly as they were so good. I had them bring some of the duck confit for the poutine and I really enjoyed that addition as well. Also the spicy smokey red sauce they brought with another dish was amazing to dip the fries into too. The tomato soup was really good, but the sweet potato & corn chowder was even better.
I had to order several things since everything looked so good. Not only was the plating beautifully done, but the turnips and Brussel sprouts were amazingly delicious. The banh mi panini reminded me of both a panini and a banh mi sandwich, creating a crunchy tasty sandwich with multiple textures and bursts of flavor.
We got lucky with being able to be seated on the tiny enclosed patio area with both the overhead heater and the seat warmers. Since that was available when we arrived, we had no wait, but there were several groups that arrived after us and had to wait in their car until a table was ready since the place is so cozy that there is nowhere to even wait inside.
The service was wonderful with the food coming out as it was ready and plenty of checks to make sure we were good, taking orders for more soup, and keeping us going.
Definitely will be back when/if we can.
Krista S.
Limited menu, but all very good! Have to order the poutine fries (add an egg on it!) and their specialty sandwiches are very good! We had to wait 30 mins on a Friday night, but worth the wait! Prices are affordable and good portions on food
Megan Sogard
I already love both poutine and duck. So I thought the poutine with duck confit, which I ordered as my dinner entree, was excellent. My party all enjoyed their beers as well. Duck Fat has a rotating offering of local beers. Personally, I really liked mine from Bellflower, a newer brewery within walking distance from the restaurant.
Melanie Tam
I think this place is a bit overhyped. After reading all of the great reviews, especially on the poutine, it was definitely a spot I wanted to check out while in Portland. We had a party of five but my friend went to go put down her name first and we would meet her there later. They quoted her about a 40 minute wait on a Sunday at around 7. When we met up, they told us it would be another 30-40 minutes, which was annoying but ok fine - we just grabbed a drink next door. Finally, our buzzer went off and we weren't seated until almost 8:30.
To start, we ordered the Shishito Peppers (fried garlic · Korean chilli powder · ginger mustard aioli). You know sometimes, the basic dishes are the best dishes. These were cooked perfectly and I the enjoyed the Korean chili powder dusted over it, especially combined with the aioli
Next, we shared a large poutine (Belgian fries topped with cheese curd, duck gravy & fresh chives) and added the duck egg + duck confit. The gravy was nice (good flavor and consistency) and it was the perfect amount for the amount of fries it was served with - enough to coat most of the fries, yet the fries are not drowning in it. I wish it had more cheese curds though. But then again, I always wish things had more cheese curds. We ended up getting another order of this
For mains, I had some kind of lobster grilled cheese panini, which was one of their specials for the night. It was fine, nothing to write home about. I think it was because I wasn't a huge fan of the bread and the bread can really make or break your sandwich. It was thick and chewy, and just not something you'd expect for a panini. My fiance had the house Smoked Brisket Panini (vegetable chow chow, cheddar, BBQ sauce). The brisket was dry and the BBQ sauce was overpowering - almost like they were trying to use it to negate the dryness, but it didn't work too well
To finish off, we shared an order of the Doughnut Holes (duck fat-fried & citrus scented, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, served with duck fat caramel dipping sauce). These were not bad but I'm biased since I don't have a big sweet tooth. If it were up to me, I probably would have just gotten another order of fries for dessert
Overall, everything was just okay. It was definitely not worth the 1.5 hour wait in my opinion. If you're just looking for their fries, which seems like their best-seller, you're probably better off just heading over to their frites shack.
Kartik Bharadwaj
What a delight! It’s a cute little place which is thronged by many. It’s packed to capacity most of the time and you’ll face a wait but trust me it’s worth it. My friends ordered bowls of soup and large portions of poutine. It was lip smacking to say the least. Being a vegetarian I had lesser options to choose from but that shouldn’t dissuade you from paying a visit. I had the butternut squash sub and a blueberry buttermilk milkshake. Both were amazing. The service is top notch which validated the wait time that we had to endure. I’d definitely recommend Duckfat as a place to visit in Portland, ME.
Reid Burkis-Oelerich
Delicious food! Definitely a great place to stop. Limited seating, so we recommend showing up earlier and being prepared to wait in line. Still - it's worth the wait!
CC F
The wait was long and overall experience was good. Like their original milkshake and crafted soda (ordered creamsicle). Frites are not the best I’ve had. The Thai spicy mayo is tasty. Salad is fresh.
Anthony Grieco
The wait is worth it and the poutine is fantastic especially with the addition of the duck confit. We had a wonderful experience there with waitstaff and being so accommodating to our dog Louie. I would definitely wait to get back in again. We had the homemade coppa, the poutin, the lobster panini special which was a Mexican street corn inspired version, and finished with the doughnut holes that are deep fried in duck fat and the caramel is even infused with duck fat. All around fantastic experience.
Ádám Máté
Duckfat. A definite must when in town. Yes, it's pricey, yes it has some flaws, but yes you should try it. Great staff, even better food - especially their signature poutine with confit - in a neat and cozy atmosphere. Oh and no, a jar of beer shouldn't have an inch and more foam on the top.
Becky Clark
Long wait time. Service was fast and friendly. The menu is on the smaller side as are portions. Highly recommend the fries as they were delicious. We had the duck poutine. We also got the specials. They did not look appealing, but the taste was great. The only food item that was lacking was the lobster sandwich. It did not have enough meat on it for the breading and lacked flavor. While the food was very good, it ultimately was not worth the long wait.
Kevin Soucy
Great fries and on sauces are all on point. The house made sodas are quite tasty. Wedge salad was nice, good portion with a mound of smoked duck breast. I was disappointed with my duck Bahn mi. Stringy confit and mushy, seemed like it cooked too long or was reheated with liquid. Duck itself wasn't flavorful and the texture just wasn't right. I would definitely go back and try it again, or maybe I just ordered the wrong thing for my taste. They obviously do a great job, just wasn't my day I guess 🤷
Doug W
Popular place we had to wait for a half hour on a Friday for lunch. Worth the wait if you have time. We ordered a beer and sat outside the tent until our table was ready. They are obviously known for their French fries fired up in some duck fat. The sauces were amazing I recommend ordering the entire flight of sauces.
Leslie Hatch
Excellent fries! The duck confit was delicious but a bit too much on the fries. Save room for the donuts and caramel. WOW! Drinks were really good but a bit $$
Jeena Joy
This place was absolutely amazing! You have to try the tomato soup! You also have to try the French fries and get the flight sauce! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and the beers were so good!!
redmond foley
I arrived shortly after open to a full house. I got seating outside with my dog and partner. Service was 12/10. Both servers were so friendly (very kind and relatable as well as professional) and attentive. My partner and I split the poutine with duck, the tomato and fennel soup and the duck Bahn mi. All of it was absolute top tier. Every flavor had its place and the servings were fair and well sized. I would drive back from CT again just to have a meal.
Brian Jordan
The fries are consistently amazing! That alone is worth the visit. The servers are also upbeat, friendly, and engaging.
The House Smoked Pulled Pork Cubano is delicious, with a heavy smoky flavor as advertised.
The Duckfat Bánh Mì had great flavors and other textures but the duck itself was overcooked and dry. It's also served on their regular panini bread, so don't be disappointed if you were hoping for the light and airy deliciousness of a Vietnamese style baguette!
Daphne Fong
Three of us went together and we got two orders of poutine (one large, one small), and a fun beverage each. That was enough food to be comfortably stuffed. The poutine was delicious - definitely add the duck confit. We also got the duck egg, but could have done without. The strawberry buttermilk milkshake was realllllly good, just not always available as it's a special. The root beer float was great! They'll make floats with any of their sodas.
Conrad Lumm
Superb drinks selection. Casual vibe and less expensive than the quality of the food would justify. Super friendly service. All-around fantastic date-night place.
Patricia Berry
Love this place. We got there just before the rush on a Monday night. The Belgian frites were crispier than I expected but delicious. The brussel sprouts were out of this world. We shared the meatloaf panino and it was my least favorite part of the meal, but just because I am a more traditional meatloaf lover and this one was a smoother less cooked one. We drank the cherry spritzer and the roots/sticks spritzer, both very good Next time I may just get fries, doughnuts, and a shake 😁
Sara Butts
My boyfriend and I went here our first night in Portland. We had a small poutine, the brisket sandwich, duck bahn mi, and duck fat original milkshake with cookie crumbles.
The atmosphere was lovely on a cold night. The poutine was excellent, and my favorite thing we ordered. The milkshake was decadent. The sandwiches were good (the locally sourced bread was *chefs kiss*), but if I were to go again, I’d focus on the poutine and milkshakes
Sabina Cardenas
The hubby and I first came here in 2020 because we were passing thru and they had an item on the menu that we wanted to try. Fast forward 2 yrs and the difference is insane. The menu items are so limited; I've seen cafés with more items and no the coffee here is not anything to write about. The food was good but I can't for the life of me understand what happened to the menu. Additionally, this place was packed on a Monday night. I hate to say it but I just don't know if it's worth the hassle. The staff worked like a team and were very nice.
shaun mclaughlin
Hands down one of the best meals of my life. Milkshakes are top notch. Get the poutine. Add the duck confit. Do it. Add the duck egg. I dare you. You won't regret it. I also ordered the lobster roll. It came out on two amazing slices of bread. This was no roll, it was an amazing lobster sandwich. Go here right now
Tom Davis
Good Beers, fantastic fries, cramped and uncomfortable.
Food and Drink was amazing but they’re really packing people in their like sardines which made it difficult to enjoy. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Scents for the Soul
It was ok place to have dinner with friends and family. But nothing special. I think the place is heavily overhyped. We waited for 1 hr to get a table shared with another party. We ordered duckfat fried peppers, poutine with added duck confit, duck banh mi, and pulled pork salad. The peppers were meh, it was just fried peppers with curried mayonnaise. The poutine was plain, didn't have any flavor. The duck confit was good though. The duckfat fries were just... fries, nothing extraordinary. The salad and banh mi were good. Service was ok. We won't come back.
Kathy Chiu
Donut holes were so good! Crispy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside. Paired perfectly with the caramel sauce. Highly recommend!
Mary Jean Hubert
Conveniently located in Old Port but also quite popular. Had a little wait but just went next door for a pre-dinner drink. However, the wait was worth it! Staff was super friendly. Had an amazing tomato and fennel soup and poutine. OMG, I want some more. So good.
Timothy Wong
Fun restaurant with small bites made for fry lovers. Milkshakes are a MUST.
Abby Baker
We love this place. Never had a disappointing meal here. We had the poutine with duck confit and a Cuban sandwich. All was super. Don't skip the milk shake!
Mike Ortiz
This place is awesome because they cook the poutine in duck fat and it’s really good. The vibes are chill, waiter was funny and food was great. The duck panini I had was ok, definitely get the poutine!
Hemu
Long wait even at 2:00 PM on Thursday. Fries were excellent. Ham sandwich was alright. Good place overall. Small and tight space though. You get to know your neighbor well.
Ashley Hinton
Ordered the poutine with egg, fries with truffle ketchup, and brisket sandwich to share. All were delicious! We got lucky and only waited 10mins on a cold rainy Sunday at 4pm. Would def recommend!
Brandon “Mr Brando” Hicks
There is reason this place is always packed! The food is amazing! The milkshakes are amazing! The Poutine is rich and spectacular!
I ordered the coffee milkshake and the spectacular Poutine with a hen egg, duck egg and duck confit! Even if you order just the fries you will not be disappointed, they are awesome.
In a city filled with seafood restaurants this place really stands out! Expect a 30-40 min wait on the weekend. They will seat you once your full party arrives so keep that in mind.

Small, fills up quickly, but worth the wait. We were most impressed by the shakes and Panini's. Very good and nicely priced. Staff is wonderful.
K U
Went in with VERY high expectations... and they were ALL MET!
Little past lunch time and they were still busy , luckily it was super cold and snowing outside so noone wanted to sit outside in the sheltered patio. Obviously, us being brave we went out but surprisingly it was warmed by a heater right above our heads so we were super cozy while sipping on their famous beers.
Now, their duck fat fried fries ARE THE BOMB! Do yourself a favor and get an order of that as you sit down, thank me later for that advice! The staff was super clean and friendly. They served us delicious foods and drinks and made sure we were comfortable. Loved the place , loved their food. Will return when in town!
Thank you!
Vincent Cheng
Be prepared to wait if you want to dive in. Our estimated wait time was hour fifteen. Decided on takeout instead cause our hotel was literally across the street. Everything wait very flavorful. Highly recommend the pulled pork cubano; nice smoky flavor with really good pickles. There paninis were nice and toasty and crispy. The soups were good too but a bit expensive for the small serving size. The fries were still very crispy even though we got takeout. Overall would recommend but maybe wouldn’t wait more than an hour.
Daniel G
Good quality food and trendy menu. I got both the poutine with the duck egg and the regular fries. I have never been a poutine fan and this place didnt change my mind lol. However, their regular fries were tasty! Crispy and soft at the same time. Their cubano sandwich was also great but I wish it came with a side of fries or something. Dont sleep on their original milkshake (probably my favorite item on the menu)
Jessica Acosta
One of my husband's and my favorite spots to take family visiting us. Love the vibe, the staff, the food. Can't say anything wrong with this well designed hidden gem.

My girlfriend and I waited over an hour (due to Covid-19), but the wait was worth it. The poutine was amazing. I got a large to share. I got the duck confit panini and it was good. My girlfriend liked her B.G.T sandwich as well. Recommend for any duck meat lover.
Henry Nieberg
Overall very delicious. I can not emphasize enough that the brussel sprouts are a must!! Appreciated the different sauces for the fries, but wish the fries were a little better. I also have had better lobster rolls, but I love the other paninis offered.
Caroline Ahn
Great selection of beer to choose from. Fries were crispy, poutine was filling, and the cauliflower bowl was quite good. Perfect casual lunch spot with friends.

Our second visit and fast becoming a go-to stop when near Portland, ME. Excellent server, very good food with especially good fries and hot donut holes - even milk shakes!
Zoie Mckenney
I , my bf and sister ate here a while back and frankly no other BLT I’ve gotten has lived up to the one served at Duckfat. Goat cheese on a blt ? Delicious 10/10 would recommend
David McBride
I'm told that God dines here frequently. I believe it. I sat at the bar and had Poutine with Duck Confit. Now I can walk and I am no longer blind. Ok, I'm exaggerating. Yeah all of that, I made it up except for the bar and the poutine with duck confit. It was excellent. I've made my own confit and I have it every time I'm in France, and mine is better, but not better than Duckfat's. Yeah, Duckfat's confit is better than any I've had in France. The fries and excellent, and yeah, also better than any I've had in France. So, wait, what is this? Does this mean something? Yes, it means you'll be happy at Duckfat. Go. The people there are also very nice. They'll bring you poutine with duck, and well, what's left after that?
HoneyBelle
Fries with cheese curds and very little gravy. Very tasty. Duck panini... lots of flavor and a bit over spicy. Had to try it after all the hype. Waited an hour on Saturday at 1:30, eh... try it for yourself!
Linda Tsoi
Coming from California, one does not really get poutine out here so naturally, we got the poutine with duck confit, a lobster roll (came on a brioche hamburger bun), and their craft soda. I assumed the craft soda was a bottle or fountain soda brand but once my menu reading comprehension set in, it was actually a flavor soda they put together in house! I got the orange cream and it was niiiiice.

A small, modern hole-in-the-wall escape into a delightful lunch experience.
My wife and I had recommendations from an acquaintance to try Duckfat when visiting Portland and boy, did it not disappoint.
We were seated at a bar along the right most wall when walking into the establishment, and greeted by a personable wait staff who quickly got us drinks and made recommendations.
We enjoyed some locally brewed beers and opted to start with the Duckfat Poutine topped with a duck egg. These were delicious and the flavors intermixed wonderfully.
I opted for the Duckfat Banh Mi and my wife chose the Oaxacan Style Smoked Brisket. Both were great combinations of flavors and textures.
The atmosphere is lively and it was packed to the brim at lunchtime.
Will definitely visit again when we return to Portland.
Hector Matos
The food was amazing, poutine was outstanding, service is impeccable. Hands down great place to eat, worth the wait. Thank you to all those in Duckfat.
Chip Haver
Awesome waiter...really great duck poutine and fries. Worth the wait
The salted Duckfat caramel shake was over the too
Harrison Boyd
Food was ok, wait was far too long for actual quality of experience. Drinks were wide in variety but very definitely over priced. Ended up paying 85 dollars for what was realistically a 60 dollar experience. Also the waiter wouldn’t split a bill 4 ways on a 360 dollar tab. that just doesn’t sit right with me, that’s a basic thing that when not achievable does not reflect an included 20 percent gratuity which was in fact included in final bill. Also the yellow jackets outside were relentless it felt like eating a panini at gunpoint.
Café
I had been to the friteshack when things were busy, was unprepared for how lovely the original would be. A whole street of outdoor seating, amazing food, a little bit of a wait but it is more than worth it. Poutine with Duck Confit is something of a dream. Meatloaf panini will leave your tastebuds dancing. If you haven't been already, it is definitely worth your while.
Mike Wu
A must go/eat place in Portland! The fries were absolutely delicious, as were the duck confit and pulled pork sandwiches! There's not much seating, but the ambience is really nice and comfy, and the staff are efficient and friendly. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area!
Kevin Hinton
One of the go to spots to eat in Portland. We had a brisket sandwich, fries and poutine and all were very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful too!
David C
Be prepared for a bit of a wait, but it's worth it! Great flavor on the fries, savory unique curry mayo, super smokey brisket panini, and mouth-watering doughnut holes. Prices are reasonable and takeout is definitely viable here. Outdoor setting worked well and felt safe.
An C.
A great place for poutine south of the border! Portions are very generous; we ordered a large poutine and a sandwich to share between two people and still had enough leftover for lunch the next day. There's usually a line but it's well worth the wait!
Elizabeth Yee
Very nice and friendly staff. Ordered the poutine with duck confit, definitely something to try.
Also tried the turkey panini and that was tasty, the pork belly panini was a little heavy on the mustard, even over powering. It might be meant as that, but it over powered the rest of the ingredients.
Blueberry and buttermilk milkshake is something to try, it was so rich and worth the calories
Tim Ogino
Delicious food in an “upscale-casual-ish” restaurant. Quick and efficient service as it’s so popular that there is a long line seemingly all day long. We didn’t feel rushed, but they were definitely trying to serve quickly.
Fries are done in duck fat and are delicious, crisp, and light. The duck sandwich was also flavorful and tasty!
Very popular so you should arrive prior to opening if you don’t want to wait. We arrived 20 minutes prior to opening and were seated immediately, but while we were there the wait quickly jumped to 45 minutes for anyone else coming in.
Tammy Liu
Intrigued by duck fat cusine, this place was packed, not too many seats, waited 40 min. The salad was interesting, tasted a bit heavy on the dressing, but fresh ingredients. The duck fat fries was delicious, got a large order and completely finished. Could be fried just a bit more to give them more crispiness. The panini was good, the bread was perfect for panini, not too hard or too soft. But, too much BBQ sauce on the brisket which overpowered the meat flavor. The duck confit was a bit dry.
magalie caragiorgio
The tomato fennel soup was off the charts. Wish I had more. I tried their parsnip soup as well. The best soup I’ve had! Their fries were delicious. So crispy and seasoning was incredible.
Had their mocha shake. Mmmm mmm. Highly recommend. Staff was friendly and helpful.
James Alvarez
Simply put, everything is very well done. From the food, to the space, to the service, Duckfat gets it.
I had the farmer's market salad and Maine lobster panini, both of which were specials and absolutely delicious. Highly quality ingredients, with a great mix of tastes that are not overdone. Really enjoyable.
Lisa Steele l Fresh Eggs Daily
I had been wanting to try Duckfat for awhile now and wasnt disappointed. Everything from the decor to the service to the food was hip and casual. I started with a delicious pear hard cider then my friend and I split a small order of fries. The garlic mayo was amazing on them. I opted for the pulled pork panini. So delicious. Also filling. We had no room for dessert, so I guess I'll just have to go back...I also forgot to buy a tee! Definitely ready for a repeat visit.
Jennifer Burke
Tried cause they were supposed to have the best poutine. It was good, not knock my socks off amazing, but good. The fries seem like they'd be really good on their own too. I will say service was lacking. I sat with a mostly empty cup of coffee for most of my lunch. No offer for a warm up or refill, which would have been nice cause it was freezing out. The panini's are pretty small for the price, but share a large poutine and splitting a sandwich would be plenty for a couple.
Gregory Merchel
Fries and shakes are phenomenal. The romaine salad and duck kale salad were also great, highly recommend both. We did not love the paninis , they were just okay. The Cuban was a bit dry and lacking flavor.
Samuel Watson
Really good duck centric restaurant with a European feel. The small poutine with duck meat is plenty to share for two. The restaurant is very small, so be prepared to sit next to those not in your party. Prices weren’t bad for the quality of the food and service was good as well. I’d recommend reservations during peak hours. Plenty of street parking nearby
Keri Thibeau
I came here for the fries, but also ended up ordering a panini and a root beer. Their root beer is like no other. It was amazing just like the food. The food is delicious and the curry mayo with the fries was beyond good. The waitress was great. I definitely recommend coming here. Parking can be a bit tricky though.
Kara Bou
This place is worth the wait. This place literally has the best fries I've ever had in my entire life. The staff is great, our stuff waiter was great. We can't remember his name but he's the lumberjack looking waiter. Great guy. Good at his job. All the food we got was stellar.
SAMANTHA Beauty
Food just too salty for me but others people may like salty. This place Can’t compare Tutor & Spunky’s Deli in Dana point California. I just want to deli in Maine see how is taste.
Danette Morrison
Unique, delicious dishes that aim to please. Poutine is like a modern twist on thanksgiving; savory, rich and comforting. The Cuban sandwich is a perfect layering of each ingredient and the pork is,... well, it’s pork. Shishito peppers were fun and unique. Loved the topping of crunchy garlic. Duck Fat always has creative shakes, too. They are one of our favorite stops in Portland.
Gmail Account
We heard this place mentioned 3 times in 2 days, and I read reviews in articles as well. Poutine was on point, I could have had 3 dishes of it. Donuts a pleasant surprise! Had the panini with duck, awesome. But poutine sold me 100%
The Captain
Absolutely deserves every star.... Everything we ate was amazing. We tried the Pulled pork & the brisket paninis. Both are great, but the pulled pork Cuban is the big winner; very smokey flavor. My only critism would be they need bigger dill pickles with the sandwich (it needs to cut the sandwich). The brisket is also amazing, and the pickled vegetables are really great!!
The poutine fries were also great; we got ours with a duck egg. But truly, the regular fries (cooked in duck fat) were the star for me. It comes with truffle ketchup and it's flat out amazing!!
David Tanner
It was OK. Fries were over cooked. Not a huge selection on the menu, and many odd items on the menu that listed “ no substitutions”. And it was pretty expensive, 4 people for lunch with just waters came to $115 before the tip. Halfway through our meal they set a random family at our table with us…. Pretty uncomfortable.
Andrew Litwin
Wow, this place definitely lived up to the hype. The Belgian fries were perfect and the sauces were delicious and high quality. It's a bit cozy inside, but it's worth the wait to try the amazing food. The paninis are quite generous and big enough for a couple to split
Stephanie w
Absolutely hands down delicious, worth the struggle finding parking and the wait to be seated! If you're in Portland ME we highly recommend going to Duck fat or if you don't want to wait hit up Duckfat frites(a few streets over serving a condensed offering of fries and poutine along with their famous milkshakes). We went on a Thursday around 1230p waited maybe 20-25 minutes to be seated inside. Seats are limited and Carry out service is halted during peak hours. Items range from fries, paninis, soup and salads with daily charcuterie board offerings. For drinks they offer a variety of house made soda's, elixir's, shakes and alcoholic Beverages. Menu is a'la carte, paninis started at $11 not including tax and went up to $16 ( duck panini. ), Shakes are delicious and they have a variety of flavors including the house Duckfat original, seasonal fruit based options, mocha, vanilla ect. $7-8 before tax. All of their food was outstanding along with the service, just word to the wise plan on getting a to go box as the fries will fill you up faster than you think!
David Curlis
While searching online for a place to eat lunch in Portland Maine, saw Duckfat and was intrigued by the name, then the menu. It’s a small venue with some outdoor seating and there can be a wait, but don’t let that stop you from eating here. It’s worth it! We had the Belgian fries, fried in duck fat, Duck & charred cabbage salad and the slow roasted pulled pork cubano. All were awesome! The fries are delicious and addictive! Nice selection of craft beer and wine. Our waiter Eric was great!
Javier Molina
The Fries are superb. (The curry mustard and the truffle ketchup are also worth mentioning). The wait is normally long, because they don´t book online. However, they provide a pager for the wait that allows you to move in the area and visit several places nearby to wait while socializing. Restrooms are clean, and the stuff very friendly. They now feature a bigger patio shaded by a huge tent adds extra space and comfort to dining in.
Vince Edwards
One of those places that simply excels at what they do and they stay in their wheelhouse. Seriously, their menu isn't huge but the flavor and creativity more than make up for it. A must-visit if you're in the Portland area and I'm looking forward to going back again.
Johanna Jackson
This is my second time to Portland, ME and I am so thrilled I went to Duckfat! We missed it last trip, and boy am I glad we didn't miss out this time. Bacon brussel sprouts, duck and couscous salad, and (of course) the special Duckfat Fries (frites) with truffle ketchup! All of the flavors came together in a lovely medley without any particular ingredient overpowering anything else. We ended the meal with the donut holes (also fried in duckfat) with the caramel dipping sauce. The center had orange zest in it which was a lovely and tasty surprise.
Chanel Haskell
Best poutine that I have ever had! The shakes were the perfect consistency and the brussel sprouts on special were extremely flavorful. The environment is fun and the smell when you first walk in is incredible!
Shravan Sivakumar
Really enjoyed the food here at this place! I must say I missed out on their poutine but I did really like their Belgian style fries! The duck breast I had was just delicious served with some crispy rye. The local beer drafts here are very good as well.
Aileen Gallagher
When the waiter grinned and said “here are your life-changing fries,” I laughed, but dang, they *were* really good fries... 5 stars just for those. I’m not a ketchup person, but even the truffle ketchup was good. Wait time was accurate (25 min for ~6:30 on a rainy Monday), and the service was very friendly. Despite the weather, we were comfortable under cover/heat lamps. Enjoyed the variety of non-alcoholic drinks, too.
Brian Landsberger
Amazingly awesome food. Fries we hands down the best I've had at any restaurant. Ordered the duck and kale salad with a caramel milkshake, wife got the the cubano sandwich. It was like every bite of the salad had it own unique and delicious flavor and my wife loved her sandwich. Well worth the wait and the cramped seating.
Peter Acimovic
Nice little place that punches above its size, the poutine is outstanding. Some terrific and creative salads.
Lee T.
I know this place has many good views but I usually do not have the patience to wait in the crazy long line for the food especially in the summer when there are many other choices. So I decided to try Duckfat during weekday in December. It has a small dining area with one big long table, two individual tables and bar seats. We ordered two panini sandwiches and Belgian fries. It was the competition between overnight duck confit sandwich and house smoked brisket sandwich. Ding Ding Ding, the winner is Smoked Brisket Sandwich! The combination of the thinly sliced smoked brisket, slightly tangy vegetable relish, cheese and bbq sauce is amazing! Duck confit sandwich is good but could use some slightly sweet or spicy sauce as the shredded duck meat is a bit dry and bland. The taste of orange mayo in the sandwich does not really stand out. Belgian fries which cooked in duck fat, is good of course! Very crispy and soft inside. Good as it is or with truffle ketchup. Curry mayo is not bad but slightly salty to pair with fries. The crab melt sandwich is only available in summer.
Joseph E
We ordered bbq brisket, duck confit, and pork cubano, and had them cut them into thirds so we could share. The girls loved the duck confit, and I thought the cubano really hit the mark. Wait time on a Friday night at dinner was about 40 minutes... Well worth the wait. Had the fries for starters, and donut holes for dessert. Wouldn't change a thing.
Christopher C
Really nice little spot to eat! Really friendly staff, nice selection of wines and handful of beer and cider. The food was fantastic, the fries were very good. The large fries were enough for two people maybe even 3. Would definitely visit again if I'm in the area!
S PJ
Bizarre busy. Make sure to order ahead or plan ahead.
Their current structure to manage eating during Covid works reasonably well.
There are 2 lines one for take out and one for dining . Make sure to get in the right lane.
We ordered a large poutine with duck (no egg) to share. I was a little disappointed with the size of the portion.
It was tasty with some good chucks of duck confit. The cheese curds were tasteless (we can debate if that’s how they should be 😉.
Chris Rosa
Started with the poutine with duck confit. The only mistake we made was getting a large for two people and thinking we would have room for a sandwich also.
Services is great. Dining inside is small with a couple tables. My wife and I shared a large table with another couple. Still plenty cozy and we all had space. They also have a few tables outside.
We were told a 30 minute wait. Took our pager which we were told works for 1 and a half blocks. We got about 5 feet down the street and we were being paved for our seat already.
As stated the large poutine is large for two to split and be full.
My wife orders the duck confit sandwich and I had the beef brisket. We managed to try our sandwiches but were so full from the fries we took them to go.
Great experience overall, we will be back.
mary harvey
Really yummy! Hubby and I were not super hungry so we ordered poutine and walnut maple shake to share. Incredible taste and large portions. Really wish we were hungry because the panini, farmers market salad and charcuterie looked and sounded delicious. We were seated right away. Will return.
Nic L
Food was really good. Loved the Asian slaw on the duck confit panini. Poutine was best I've had in a while. Nothing overly salted which I expect with duck. Service was a little cold though. That might have been our server, as other servers seemed warm and welcoming.
K BM
Attention Attention!! Poutine fries with duck confit and duck egg is a must have!!! Omg so yummy! Their paninis are also fresh and flavorful. I had a mocha shake (I’m a coffee addict and I loooove chocolate) so yes I really enjoyed that shake (so much I might have had 2) friends got the boozy shake (tried it, very good, best use of sherry in my opinion) cookies and cream shake also good.
Ryan Panchisin
Google informed me this was the place for poutine in Portland. The atmosphere, staff, and especially food were all exceptional. Thanks, Google! But seriously, Duckfat has a small but diverse beer selection, and the dine in/takeout options are accommodating. This place handled the pandemic well and seems to be thriving. Right on.
Nehru Enerio
Delicious fries and pulled duck. Poutine was amazing as well. Definitely get the truffle ketchup or curry dip for the fries. I actually ordered two large baskets of fries since they were so delicious. You can definitely taste the duckfat!
Chris g
Very high quality ingredients and reasonable price as well for the flavorful experience. A small locale in which lines are common. The taste is excellent, although the price is a little on the high side but worth it. Truffle ketchup and curry mayo go well with the fries.
Tiffany Tran
Whoever said they had a very short wait time probably lucked out. I went in March during an unusually cold weekend (10 degrees) for a later lunch, at around 2pm. My friends and I sat in an outside seating area with a small heat lamp over us, and we still had to wait at least 30-45 minutes. The heat lamp definitely did not provide enough heat, and we all ate with our winter parkas on. The nice thing was that they give you a buzzer and a phone call when your table is ready, so we didn't have to wait in the cold - we were able to go to the coffee shop around the corner.
The food however was great. Despite the chill, we all got shakes that were well worth the $6-8 price tags. They came with the metal cans that were around half a cups worth. The paninis were a bit small for how much they were, but they were delicious. Of all things though, you HAVE to get the fries obviously. We got the poutine fries and we shared that among our table of 7.
Moriah Chastney
The sandwiches are meh but the fries are amazing- crispy even when they are cold! And the donut holes are to die for.
Joe Nastri
Tasty restaurant serving up Belgian-style frites, Canadian-style Poutine, and a mix of other small and entree-sized plates. Good house-made craft sodas (make them an optional 'Float' with vanilla ice cream). Pleasant service. It's a small space however, seating is limited (some outside seats, indoor seats are approx. 30). Food is TASTY. I'll be back.
Chandler McNaughton
First time at duckfat and it was my favorite stop in Portland. Cool atmosphere, very friendly staff. And the food was delicious. I got the smoked duck breast charcuterie and the shishito peppers. (also some of the best fries I've had)
chris mcmillan
Wanted to go last year when I was on vacation just didn't get around to it. I took a friend who is an avid duck hunter and we were both happy and full when we left. The hostess stephanie took great care getting 2 seats even though it was packed. Our server was also great,(short, blonde curly hair, sorry forgot name). I had the small loaded poutine with duck egg and confit. Amazing, rich duck gravy and was paired perfectly with a blueberry buttermilk milkshake. The acid and fat were heaven on my palate. Also had the Cuban and my friend had the brisket. All homeruns, fresh flowers got dropped while eating which was a nice touch. Just wish there was a little more elbow room.
wendy chin
Small but great ambiance. Very friendly staff. Greeted right away. If there's a wait they have a buzzer with a map of how far you can go. So you can go nearby for a drink or snack. The charcuterie board is a must. Their homemade duck bologna was delicious.
Marie Christie
Hands down the best fries of my life! I just got the poutine with nothing added, and I don’t know how I’ll eat a regular fry and be happy again. This is a must-do in Portland.
Fly Fisherman
Great spot with fantastic fries. The Tomato fennel soup was terrific. Make sure that you have time to wait to get a seat. Tables are limited and the space is small. I came along e and walked right in, but many had 30 minute waits. The staff is nothing less than excellent.
Stacy Redding
We waited over an hour to experience Duckfat due to all the hype. The fries were good but not amazing. The sauces were what seemed to bring the meal together. The truffle ketchup was my favorite but they were all good. I suggest getting the sauce flight so you can try them all.
Paul Vargas
Come for the food!!!!! It's amazing!!!! The Belgium fries with con fit and duck egg were amazing!!!!! Milkshakes were just as good.
Wait can be long but worth it. You can also do take away!
Tracey Trapinch
I dropped in for a quick snack and a drink with friends. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. The staff were friendly and chill. The food came out quickly and piping hot. My only regret is that I didn't save room for dessert!
Milla Silla
Great food! Would definitely recommend there Poutine it’s absolutely scrumptious, but the catch is you are going to have to wait a minimum of half an hour to get the food. If you are willing to wait and are not in a rush I would definitely recommend.
Morgan Madsen
Morgan was our server and she was amazing, along with the rest of the staff. Great environment, even better food! I had the tomato soup and the caprese sandwich, easily the best one I’ve ever had. My boyfriend had the poutine and one of their signature milkshakes. We both tried a few of their drafts and loved every one of them. Highly recommend!
Priscilla Arsenault
My 1st visit to Duckfat was amazing. I had one of the specials, "Farmer's Salad: farm fresh vegetables, quinoa, feta and sun-dried tomato vinaigrette." It also came with an amazing red, edible(!) flower! Sat outside, service was wonderful, foot was delicious, looking forward to a 2nd visit soon!
Jessica Winford
Very cozy inside. They were on a wait when we came, but put our name down and have us a pager. Pager had a great range as we went to another bar for a quick drink. Our server had great recommendations and was very patient with our indecisiveness. The food was very good. Recommend going all the way with the poutine. Great local beer selection served in cute glasses. The cubano was amazing, the pork was very tender and full of flavor.
Tyler Hoerter
Absolutely amazing. I had the poutine with the hen egg and the duck confit. And a creamsicle soda it was to die for!
Michael Cooke
Excellent food and service, I had the bahn mi and the Belgian fries, both were delicious, my wife had a salad that she also enjoyed. The original milkshake and the roots and bark craft soda were very good as well. Be prepared for a wait, we go there at opening and there was already a line.
Caleb Spykstra
Best fries you will ever have. While visiting Portland we liked this place so much we came back two days in a row.
Jacob Milam
This was one of the best places that we ate in Portland. Obviously you need to try the fries and I would highly suggest getting the poutine as well. We loved the poutine so much we went to their fry shack the next day just to get that! All of their food was great and had a good sized portion. Our server was over the top and everyone was so nice. You need to try this place!
Joie Kapinos
Their signature poutine w duck confit was perfect in every way. I also enjoyed their housemade charcuterie. With a polite staff and good service we were very happy w our service. We dined in their small outdoor space and it was lovely w some fresh wild flowers decorating every table and a canopy overhead for shade and to keep out any light rain.
Sonia Frederickson
The fries were great and the dipping sauces were incredible. My favorite was the special curry mayo. However, the stools we were sat at were extremely tiny and uncomfortable and stopped us from ordering more food because we wanted to leave asap.
Jaclyn Hugh
So so good. Visited Portland from NY and was recommended to come here from a few people. First time having poutine and I'm glad I got them from here. Highly recommend!
Nick C
Good off-season bar/restaurant to relax and quietly contemplate life. First experience was relaxed and chill.
José Aguayo
Exceeded our expectations... the place was firing on all cylinders. The Fish, as well as Roasted Delicata Squash Panini were perfect. Their signature french fries outstanding - truffle ketchup.. nice. Try the milkshakes - they got a thumbs up from everyone... It was the first cold weekend of the winter, so we didn't have much of a wait. Friendly staff...
Wesley Dz
Not worth the hype or the wait. 100% go to their shack rather than waiting here. The service was AMAZING. The fries were meh. The other food was really good. The seats at this restaurant are arguably the the worst seats I've ever sat on at a restaurant. Not just the fact that your forced next to others not in your party, but the seats themselves are hard and uncomfortable.
It's not a must stop when in Portland. You can find better elsewhere. Add it to your list of "if we have time"
David Malta
Great sandwiches, delicious fries, and honestly - AMAZING ketchup. Must get the truffle ketchup with your fries! The poutine with egg was great too.
Kyle Suarez
It's a bit of a wait but definitely worth it. The poutine is a must-try and the sandwiches are excellent
Morgan Miller
Go here...wait for as long as it takes...it’s worth it! We had three days in Portland and we made a point to eat here again before we left. Their fries are outstanding, the milkshakes are to die for, and their paninis were the perfect blend of flavors.
Catherine Vasquez
A must go in Portland! Delicious. We same the duck confirm panini, pork belly and cubano oh and the poutines! Everything was great!
Kendra Wright
Excellent experience! The service is FANTASTIC, and the food was great! Highly recommend the poutine with duck confit. We also got the brisket panini, it was really good. I felt the panini was a little too over toasted however, I think most people like their bread super crispy, so that’s just a personal preference. The poutine was a 10! Even better than what we’ve had in Canada!
Jenna Vance-Martin
Such an amazing place to eat. You will def have a wait but I promise it’s worth it. The duck confit poutine was to die for and the milkshakes were heavenly. So happy!
Sarah Mulligan
Best fries ever! Just that and a milkshake make for an excellent lunch. The space is really small and it can get super busy, especially during the summer, but it is worth the wait. Get there early!
Richard Clancey
Whenever I'm in Portland I try and go here. The poutine is SO GOOD. Try the donut holes!
O
Poutine at Duckfat. What more can I say. This should be the top things to do while visiting Portand Maine. Tasty gravy wrapping and being soaked in by the potato chips. The plentiful cheese curds that you can't stop wanting more of. nom nom nom
Amie A
Best fries! Place is a little tight with communal seating. Fries were amazing and crispy. Poutine was great and we had the lobster panini that was on special and it did not disappoint. Milkshakes were also tasty.
m matthews
Great food. Well presented. Very nice laid back luncheon experience.
Paul Delabruere
Duckfat is very busy, as it should be. We waited an hour to get in for a late lunch and it was well worth it. It's a beautiful, comfortable environment, and the waitstaff is excellent: knowledgeable and personable. They manage the crowd well, and we were able to visit a coffee shop while we waited for our spot in line. They are doing excellent and unique things with food that make it a fun experience for foodies, but also an easy recommendation for anyone. We loved the flight of sauces for their famous fries. The banh mi with confit duck was very decadent.
Brian Ha
Fries were good, probably wouldn’t get the Vietnamese banh mi again though
Krystina “Gibbs” Gibbons
Very small quaint location that is always busy. If you want a seat, get there early! If they are on a wait they gove you a buzzer that can reach down the block, so you can walk arounf and shop till the table is ready. The food and drink choices were limited, but what they have is amazing! I had the turkey panini and the fries and it was the best panini I've ever had. If you go you have to try the fries! They are perfect!
Andi Babbs
Delicious. Doesn't disappoint. Knowledgeable staff. Diverse menu offering. From tartare to milk shakes.
First come and first serve seating so come early. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Street parking available.
Andrea Medina
Tasty and hearty food. The menu is very limited but the items themselves are savory. Arrive there with enough time to place yourself on a 1-2 hour wait.
Gina C.
First time here- excellent food and service. Very impressive how staff all work efficiently and together. I order poutine with duck confit, wow, so delicious. Husband loved his cookies and cream milkshake and pulled pork Cuban panini.
morgan higginbotham
Great friendly & efficient service & staff. The fries were amazing. The strawberry shake was amazing. The wedge salad was tasty but could use less wedge. The duck Bahn mi was tasty but a bit too far removed from an actual bahn mi. The space is tiny but highly recommend.
Nick W.
What a treat Duckfat was on a nice warm fall afternoon. There I was basking in the sun in a post COVID world eating on the street with a refreshing Arnold Palmer and a hearty combo of their Poutine duck fat fried French Fries (small), along with a Duck Confit Panini. Both of which were out of this world. Duck was splendid, and cooked just right, not dry, and the fries were similar to Belgian frites one would get on the streets of Brugge. Would definitely recommend as a fun meal with friends if you are traveling as a group. I did not get a chance to try any of their beers.
Chelsea Davidson
As someone with soy and peanut allergies, I very rarely get to have fried things. Not only was I able to have the fries here, which were perfect, I could even have the donuts! Cannot recommend this place enough.
Matt Werner
Wow! To start, the atmosphere is very chill and the magnetic words are a blast! We started with the duck fat fries and dipping sauces, which were all amazing. I liked the horseradish mayo and truffle ketchup the best. My wife got the duck confit panini for lunch while I got the pulled pork cubano. We both washed it down with some local beers from liquid riot and oxbow. Well done Duckfat!
Pedro Pereira
In my 28 years of living, I’ve never shed a single tear (not even at birth). However, on this day, I ate a duck panini. Tears of joy flowed through my eyeballs. Amazing. Spectacular. I’ll never forget this day
Bob E
Absolutely a must visit! The staff made it very comfortable and entertaining. The food was worth any detour necessary on your trip to Maine. Just go and you'll know of what I speak!
M Cook
2hour wait time, but well worth the wait- the duckfat fries, poutine, the open faced lobster sandwich, OMGGGGG!
Robyn Huang
In beautiful Portland, there’s this tiny unassuming little place called Duckfat. It’s hugely popular and even arriving 40 minutes before it opened, there was a line forming (we luckily were third in place). Everyone was respectful and once they opened, the groups divided between inside and outside. I never really looked at the inside because we took the picnic communal table outside.
The hostess was a bit brusque about the fact that we had a large group (some who were walking around across the street), so we ordered a bunch of fries and shakes, kept part of the table, and the rest of our group ate on the grasses across the street.
The food was very delicious, even the duck fat blueberry shake. There was just this lingering feeling that we weren’t wanted because we weren’t a table of two.
Brittany Oakes
Don't get me wrong, Duckfat has some delicious fries and unique paninis. BUT I don't think it merit's a 1-2 hour wait. The restaurant space is small, and the wait can be very long. The staff is friendly and attentive. Not the best poutine I've had (it's good and worth and order), and their fries crunchy. The reason I wouldn't give them a 5-stars is that they aren't the only shop in town anymore serving fries and panini's. They've been well known for many years now, so if you are going to cross it off your bucket list then by all means go for it. I've been twice now and feel like I don't need to go back. That being said, they opened a walk-up window location a few blocks away. If you want to try their fries, check this spot out instead.
Nick K
Amazing food and great service! Sauces were so good. They had a Beet dish on special that was one of the best things I've ever eaten
Jim Cummins
The host called us “baby” or his babies and was so funny. The food was excellent, we waited on the park benches across the street and ate outside. I lived in Belgium and the fries hold up, try a phosphate or a shake on a hot day and the caprese panini and Oaxaca brisket panini were phenomenal. So worth a stop.
Sean Asbury
Great local eatery. Delicious fries served with a flight of sauces. Fantastic selection of local beers and wines. Great service. Cool ambience.
James Walker
Great place to eat if visiting Portland.
Tammy Y.
Definitely try the poutine here, it's delicious and super filling. Even on a weekday afternoon, the place was pretty busy. The food was great and the service was friendly and quick. The construction next door made the restaurant harder to find (view of the door was blocked and there wasn't an obvious sign for the restaurant).
Quantwilla Gibson
The food was great and the ambiance was relaxing and very mellow. I would like if they got better seats tho. I’m a pleasantly plump individual and the stool like chairs cut my butt circulation at one point.
Craig Plazure
Obviously fantastic. Poutine with perfectly fried (in duck fat, of course) potatoes, amazing gravy, and delicious duck confit on top. Great sandwiches with balanced flavors. Good selection of local draft beers. And for dessert, their duck fat-fried, citrus scented donuts holes! A must in Portland.
Hannah Olson
Best fries in town. The poutine with duck confit is decadent. The sandwiches are delicious and the milkshakes are practically a sin. The classic vanilla with a salted caramel swirl is hard to beat. The doughnuts are wonderful but I'm usually too stuffed to contemplate dessert.
Laura Davidow
Decided to check out Duckfat after seeing Somebody Feed Phil. Loved the fries and my panini was great. Look forward to going there again to try more items from the menu,
Jennifer Chu
The paninis!! Got the duck confit and the beef brisket. The bf really liked the duck confit. I liked the brisket a little better. Had a really good tang to it. Both had a good amt of meat. Fries were good but nothing super amazing.
Mark Dunn
Fantastic lunch spot. The poutine and donuts are amazing. Dog friendly. Excellent service. Note* they only have lunch hours for the public*
Sam Anderson
Amazing food, everything is well worth a try but definitely get the Belgian fries and Bahn Mi. Don't forget to order a Roots, Sticks and Bark.
Brady Kegley
Amazing poutine and great paninis. We wanted poutine but also to try the fries with sauces, and waitress recommended to try order poutine with sauces on the side -it was the best of both worlds. It is a veryyyyy long wait, but at least you can wander the neighborhood with your buzzer!
Ryan Osterbrink
Fantastic food. Poutine with duck confit on top was spectacular. The milkshakes and doughnut holes shouldn’t be skipped either.
The restaurant is small, so be prepared for a wait.
Christopher Plebani
Great little spot to grab a panini and a local beer, and obviously the amazing fries. We stop here every time we visit Portland. The food is always unbelievably fresh and they source many local ingredients. They also have a grear selection of local beers as well. Just be mindful that this is a small place so be prepared for a wait especially during peak times. It will be worth it.
Thomas Griebel
This is a really great place to eat! The fries here were especially delicious and it’s something I’ve never tasted before. The staff here is really friendly as well. Would recommend this place if you’re planning to stop by Portland!
Sai Oh
Both times I have went I have been happy with their service and drink selection. I don't eat too many paninis style sandwiches but I keep going back when I drive up to Maine. It is pretty under rated to the normal non-reviewer/non-foodie crowd. Delicious. Be prepared to wait about 45 mins to an hour during lunch times.
Jackson Wajer
The food is always incredible as is the service. I go at least once a year and always get large fries with truffle ketchup and the Original Duckfat Milkshake. The service is incredibly friendly and the restaurant is a quaint place that is a staple of Portland's food scene.
Kevin Leddy
There fries, food, milkshakes and soda were all delicious. And yes, there poutine was just as good. I visited Portland and this was one of the restaurants that we stopped at. Now that I'm home I'm dreaming about eating at this place again. Very good and worth the visit.
Emily Bristol
Amazing food, drinks and staff. It's a small space that can feel cramped and the wait can be long, but it is well worth it. Check it out if you can.
Mirror Wolf
The original milkshake and poutine fries with the cheese curds is a perfect combo of savory and sweet that you'll forget your problems even before your inevitable food coma.
Benjamin Roberts
The best food we could have hoped for. On a vacation with family to Boston made the two hour drive to Portland and was told this was the place to go. This was the place to go. Try everything.
Tristan McKenna
We had the small poutine with an egg on top, and a Cuban sandwich split between my son and I. I was happily surprised that the pork was smoked perfectly on the cuban, and the poutine was also excellent. Plenty of beer on tap as well!
Dawn Landsberger
This restaurant was fun. They have French fries fried in duck fat. It gives them a different taste that you have to try if you are visiting the city. I also had a Cubano sandwich that was good but a tad pricey. There was a 30ish min wait to get a seat in the tiny place.
Kate Mueller
Duckfat has, hands-down, my favorite poutine of all time. I prefer it without the duck confit but with the fried duck egg on it, and it is consistently amazing every time I go. The housemade milkshakes are also a strong choice (Meyer lemon, which they do sometimes as a special, is AMAZING). And if you're ever a homemade rootbeer kind of fan, the Roots, Barks, Sticks & Leaves is a tasty option. Servers are personable and really well-read; I've eaten here alone a lot with a book and several of them have either recognized the author/book I was reading or, twice, have made recommendations for similarly themed books (which have turned out to be solid recommendations). It's pretty easy with one or two people to get seated quickly, but at popular times with more than that, you may have a bit if a wait, though their pagers will let you wander about a block away. Someday I hope they get a bit more space!
Jenna Carlson
Fries had really good flavor, gravy was delicious and there was lots of cheese curds on here! My boyfriend got the roast beef panini which was really good and flavorful. Everything was fresh and reasonably priced, especially because the Old Port can be rather expensive.
So it's called Duckfat...wouldn't recommend for vegetarians. But anyone else should definitely check this place out!
Annie Jang
That poutine is awesome. Also, toast sandwiches are awesome. It's not a very large restaurant but they have great food.
Meghan Kim
Long wait but you can roam nearby while waiting. We went to Coffee by Design. Great service with a Brooklyn feel to the place. Food was excellent and fast!
Morgan
I have eaten at a lot of Maine restaurants in the past week. One restaurant even prompted me to purchase the chef's cookbook; however, I would choose Duckfat over any of them. That may sound dramatic, but it's really freaking good. Just try it.
Andrew Coco
My girlfriend and I had a delicious lunch here. Good portion sizes and yummy food!
Maggie Drewry
One of the best restaurants that I've visited! Service was fast, and their menu was great. The sandwiches were all made with local ingredients. Their craft drinks were also amazing. Their Belgian fries were definitely the star of the show! They were so crispy and flavorful! It's worth getting a few different dipping sauces on the side. I'll be coming back here next time I'm in Portland!
Xander Coleman
Delicious poutine and milkshake!
Roy Galindo
The items were delicious. We shared five items to include the milkshake, and each one delivered to taste. Seating was tight, but we were enjoying the experience.
Bruce Scott
We had read about this cozy little restaurant as well as being referred by friends. What a wonderful little spot. You must try their poutine!! Nicely varied menu along with a decent craft beer selection. Excellent service. Our waitstaff person was Ryan. He did a marvelous job of providing information on both menu items and the craft beers. He was attentive and engaging without hovering.
If you want something a little unique give Duckfat a try. You will be glad you did.
Mary Trenty
Long wait. We waited 1.5 hours. Food was really good and very tasty. Poutine portions were big!
Liz Dent
We went to Duckfat on Patriots' Day when very little was opened. We had to wait 35 minutes for a table but it was so worth it. The sweetcorn and sweet potato curried soup of the day was delicious, the Duckfat fries with dipping sauces were so good we ordered 2. My family all raved for days after about their meals. The service was very friendly and fast. I would highly recommend this cozy little gem on your visit to Portland, Maine.
Anna Li
This place is just incredible. You must order the fries with truffle ketchup. There is often a wait BUT IT IS WORTH IT. Do not skip this restaurant when visiting Portland.
Hailey Ferraro
Get here early or be prepared to wait (and the wait is absolutely worth it!) Service was wonderful, but the food was out of this world. They're doing an amazing job! Highly HIGHLY recommend! We had the Duck Confit Poutine 🥰 …
Chris K
Had a late night dinner here on recommendation by all the reviews on the internet. But we didn't think the fries were as good as advertised. Friendly service, worth a visit, but maybe split an order of fries instead of buying one each in case you don't love them.
Dylan H
We got the duck fries and two milkshakes, classic and cookies and cream. The milkshakes were delicious, super light and flavorful. The fries were so good, you could taste the delicious duck fat on them. The environment was cute inside with a nice covered outdoor area (during winter). Staff were very friendly. They had Betty white puzzle and quote up as a tribute
Samantha Hing
I know that I’m in the north but I really got a taste of Southern hospitality. My poutine was overwhelming and I had to take it home with me but it was delicious. I also really recommend one of their classic milkshakes. They will fill you up!
Aimee Lagrave
This place is rather fascinating. The fries were amazing and we especially loved the milkshakes. I don't know that I would recommend it as a stop on a long road trip. We had to wait several hours to be seated and once we were seated the service was not exactly fast. I can tell it's up-and-coming, however there was also, what looked like a drug deal, that took place across the street around lunch. Additionally, parking was not super convenient and whand when we finally decided to take a lot it was ridiculously expensive.
Tom Furnari
It was ok. Little pricey for fries and a shake. I paid $41 and some change for fries, poutine, and a shake. Staff was a little boujee, even over heard them make fun of a customer for sending the clam chowder back because it tasted a little to fishy for them. One and done with this place for sure.
Joseph Middleton
Stopped by for dinner on the first night of a long weekend in Portland. The wait time was an hour. We were given a pager and walked around the area. The food was well worth the wait. I made dinner out of a large order of fries with garlic mayo, truffle ketchup, and garlic chili aioli. I also had a blueberry gose beer. While not something I would typically pick it was an excellent choice. The fries were wonderfully crisp and the duck fat frying resulted in a delicious and distinctly different taste than one expects from fried foods. To wrap up the meal, I ordered the original milkshake. This was a wonderful way to wrap up the meal and a high quality vanilla milkshake that I would absolutely get again.
Sanjay Sharma
A busy restaurant because the food and service is a Michelin star worthy experience. Get the obligatory poutine with duck confit and egg, it's a good appetizer to get you ready for the best pulled smoked pork with bacon cubano and Thai-styled Bahn Mi sandwich. The menus change somewhat over time, so feel free to ask the waitstaff of the new items. If you have space, do the milkshakes. I have to say, they do something magical with the strawberry and buttermilk.
If you're in the neighborhood for a party of 3 or more, get your reservations in, walk around the area, and enjoy. For a party of 2 or less, your wait time is significantly less. Enjoy!
Danielle B
Amazing food and atmosphere. My husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat and I’m so glad we did. There was an hour wait however it was a holiday weekend during lunch time so we anticipated a wait. We decided got the loaded poutine and it was incredible!
Kayla P
Our poutine was to die for!!! Would absolutely recommend!!! The waiter was also super pleasant and fun, really enhanced the experience. It is a pretty small place, so be prepared to get cozy with your neighbor!
Book Wyrm
The wait was long but worth every minute. The fries were delicious but the poutine... the poutine was out of this world. Get the poutine, you will not regret it!
Robert Emery
Really cool place to get a delicious sandwich. Inside it had a bit of a classic pub feel with the exposed brick. We every much enjoyed our bottle of blueberry wine.
Joshua Clark
Summer 2022 Update: Such a great spot, I wanted to update to say that their sodas and shakes are really great and the service has always been very good despite how busy they always are. If you're in Portland and you don't go here the you have made a big mistake!
AMAZING! Duckfat has become a staple stop every year for my family and I when we stay at nearby Old Orchard Beach. The fries are excellent on their own, but their poutine is out of this world! The best I've ever had for sure! Their sandwiches are also great! It can be extremely busy/crowded. Their space is pretty limited so large parties may wait white a while - but it is worth the wait. Whether you just want a snack or a full meal, you can't go wrong at Duckfat!
Kirstin Korinko
As Idahoans visiting Maine in order to be wowed by seafood. We were not expecting to be wowed by steak and potatoes.
My husband, a French fry connoisseur, says these are the best fries he has ever had. 10/10
We opted for a Cubano and a brisket sandwich and both were beyond amazing.
Even though super busy at 1pm on a Saturday our server Trevor was awesome! He easily read people and knew the best way to serve them. Even tho my husband and I are reserved quiet people, he was still very attentive to our needs and very kind.
Ezra Hodgson
Have walked by too many times. Finally made the right call and stopped in and boy was it fantastic. If nothing less, get the poutine. Loved the outdoor seating arrangement well. It’s a new favorite for me.
Matt
Small place with exceptional food. The Belgium fries with truffle ketchup and/or garlic mayo is superb. So good I ordered a large to go. I'm a big fan now.
Emily Flanders
Came here during a mid week brew hopping. The Poutine was out of this fricken world. If you visit Portland, go to duckfat. They need a bigger space, but I think it adds to the experience as well. Great food, beer, wine selections.
Kierdog kier dog
First time here and we will be back. Busy, even after lunch rush, but we got a pager that works a decent distance away, so we walked around until it went off. Ordered the fries with duck. Fantastic. Also turkey panini. Also fantastic. Wait staff was top notch, efficient and friendly.
Jesse Reed
The fries, were amazing, the tomato soup was amazing, and shakes were too. Our server was really nice and had great energy. Loved it.
John McIlvaine
Just stopped on quickly for some to-go poutine, it was pretty good, very rich, little pricey for the amount but was okay. Cool little place. not very much seating but a cozy/cool vibe
Cass
Legendary place in Portland, you at least have to try it once. The donut balls and fries were the best I’ve had.
Marc Sierra
I’ve been wanting to go to this place for a while. It seems like the food here in Portland is better than the food in Boston. Definitely less expensive. I would tell any one coming to the area that this is the right place to go.
Jay Roderick
Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious. People all the way down in Boston RAVE about the food here, and it's all true. Def try the poutine.
Samantha Kirk
I had the tomato fennel soup and the squash sandwich and my partner got the fries with different sauces and we loved all of them! I honestly though the sandwich would be bland, but it was so delicious and flavorful. All the dips were also tasty and the fries were so crispy. If I lived here I would definitely be back often!
Lauren Warren
Good local beer selection. Great paninis. You must get the duck fat fries and the truffle ketchup!
Alice Kang
Got the poutine with duck meat on top (so worth getting the meat on top, don’t skimp on adding that). Delicious! That was my favorite from this place. We also ordered the Cubano panini to share because it was a big portion. A bit salty so not my favorite but still good!
Joseph Devaney
Worth every penny.
The poutine was just fantastic. Some of the best I've ever had. Gravy was just right and the cheese curds were amazing.
I had the brisket panini which was also very flavorful. I took a bite of my wife's turkey panini (with bacon and avocado) and the taste of that was out of this world.
If you find yourself in Portland, don't hesitate to visit this place. The donuts and original milkshake aren't to be missed either.
Samuel Wood
As a local I really want to give Duckfat more stars, but they just don't quite hit the mark any more. The food is usually over salted and the fries don't have the crisp you would hope for from potatoes fried in duck fat. The wait in the summer makes it basically impossible to get a seat without a miracle. It's worth grabbing something to go, just to give it a try. It won't ever be wining any food awards, but it is a fun experience. Break out your wallet too, the lroce for a couple sandwiches and one plate of poutine approaches $50.
Jocelin Pan
Beet special and tomato soup. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. Of course the fries and duck confit were amazing, but I will be dreaming of that tomato fennel soup every day. Beet dish was so full of complementary flavors and textures. One of my fav dishes of the week while eating our way through Portland. Oh, and the house soda. 🤤🤤🤤🤤. …
Elizabeth Bright
Poutine paradise, every time! The texture makes it- fries stay crispy. Also, the original milkshake is perfect. It's a cozy spot and I love it.
R. From BS
A delicious stop for decadent food while in Portland. The menu does vary but those french fries cooked in duckfat are a must! Oh it is Zaget rated. There is a metered parking in a small but convenient lot. The service is fast but not rushed and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The place is small and on busy nights the wait can be long but it's worth it. Sorry about the one picture but I was so busy enjoying myself I didn't take the time to get a good shot.
Benjamin Brewer
Best poutine ever! Knowledgable and friendly staff. Great craft soda. Excellent destination! I would highly recommend
Micro State (MicroState)
Food was great, they have a garlic mayo that they make daily. Mine wasn't very garlicky. Staff was super friendly, they do contact tracing which is nice as well.
Arch Stanton
Proper artisanal sandwiches and sodas
Classic and tasteful with a rustic yet modern atmosphere. The menu is small but satisfying along with daily specials and great milkshakes.
Stop in and enjoy!
Eric Ding
Fries are excellent - definitely get the duck confit on them. Brisket and haddock paninis were good as well, but the duck and kale salad really stood out. Highly recommend.
Anthony Skelton
While a small, quaint, restaurant, we were able to take advantage of their online ordering and takeout option. Even though they were pretty busy, we got our takeout from order to in hand in approximately 20 minutes. I had the fries with horseradish mayo and it was absolutely phenomenal. I also had the pulled pork cubano panini, and it was absolutely amazing. Flavor profile was spot on.
While it is a tad pricey (lunch of small fry, craft soda, and panini was about $31), it was well worth the money, and I would recommend.
Benjamin R.
We definitely had very high expectations for these fries and were slightly disappointed. We came here later at night so maybe that's why, but the fries were not very crispy. We'd try again next time we are in town just to see if it was a bad night or something.
Kenny Danberg
The poutine was exceptional! I had the Cuban panini and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.
Alessandro Bahgat
We love this place and every time we come to Portland we try to pay a visit.
The fries are great by themselves but all the sauces you can choose from will make them even better.
The sandwiches are all amazing too. We tried several and can't think of a single time where we weren't impressed.
Jasmine Davis
Close but cozy, warm atmosphere, more privacy than you would think upon first glance and sitting down. Staff do not hover, however if you need them they are quick to attend to your needs. Food is very flavorful and mixes together in a wonderful meld in your mouth.
Maria Joan Hambelton
Favorite place to go. Fantastic fries and milkshakes! First time trying a Cubano sandwich which was delicious!
C Fad
Ryan is the sweetest and handsome guy in here. He makes us feel good while in there. Would love to see him again! 😀 …
Pulkit Gupta
Really good. I gotta say, it tastes like amazing home cooking. Like everything is friendly, doesn't have to be the PRETTIEST instagrammable thing in the world, but everything was delicious. Would come again.
Eric Hollingsworth
I have no idea why we decided to go at 12 noon on Labor Day weekend, but it was definitely worth the hour long wait.
Their pulled pork Cuban panini was out of this world! My better half ordered poutine which she equally loved. Are you french fry portions are huge so either come with an empty stomach or order the small portion.
A fun thing to do if you have a long wait time is to head over to the shipyard brewery which is less than a block away.
Richard A
It's very busy for a reason! Creative panini, sandwich and appetizer menu. Pleasant staff, would definitely go back.
Ambre Rose
Firstly I am a long time patron of Duckfat I love the restaurant, food is great, staff are knowledgeable and friendly. But I would not feel comfortable eating at this restaurant in the current situation. This is “outdoor” seating. A tent surrounded with plastic for warmth...so there is no airflow. Tables are probably as far apart as the city council/state CDC is recommended (I didn’t look it up nor did I measure) but I would not feel comfortable eating in there. I believe in customer rights to make their own choices so I’m sure most do not see this as a problem. I work in healthcare and have close contact with vulnerable populations. Just thought I’d share my thoughts Incase anyone else is thinking of going here.
I did get take out and that felt comfortable as it was not very busy and that was completely outside and contactless so I would suggest that route if you are concerned.
Zoe Pawlak
Food was fantastic. Definitely the place to go if you want poutine. The fries were delicious, especially with the truffle ketchup. There is outdoor seating only. You will have to wait if you come here, but it is worth the wait. The wine, hand crafted sodas, and milkshakes were great. The menu is small, but they make everything very well. The paninis were very filling and tasted great. The service was very fast once we were seated and the server was extremely nice. I would definitely come here again and recommend it to everyone who visits the Portland, Maine area.
Jordan Vachon
Great, cozy vibes at this restaurant. We were told there would be an hour wait on a Friday night, so we walked around the block a couple of times and were seated earlier than expected. The staff were great and we enjoyed the word magnets while we waited for our food. We ordered the poutine as a starter and shared the Oaxacan and Cubano paninis - every part of the meal was great!
Elly Pirman
Long wait but well worth it! The fries and assortment of sauces were delicious. I got the warm cauliflower salad which was an amazing blend of flavors. My friends both got paninis which they raved about. All employees were also super friendly and helpful.
Anthony Silva
The food and service here are top notch. The fries are a must when visiting Portland
Steve Warren
Fries were great. Wish the menu was bigger. Good snack / drink spot before dinner.
Josh Rice
Really appreciated the excellent service and outstanding fries. The banh mi missed the mark though. It was surprisingly plain tasting and the mint combined with the sweetness of the pickled veg really threw the taste off further. I'd go back, but would pass on the banh mi.
Daniel Blankenship
Tasty, but limited, small plates (fries with truffle ketchup/garlic mayo, beet salad, asparagus). Cherry soda!! Inconsistent service (they forgot about us, even though we had a buzzer, then spontaneously said they would comp a dish but didn’t).
Canal Angler
Absolute best restaurant in Portland! If you are in the area, it is a must! Great experience and even better food!
Tammy Trantham
Great place for some food. Poutine was good, just need a bit more gravy for me. Duck Confit was tasty. Recommend for poutine.
Brooks
Fries cooked in duck fat. Fries were tasty but not that much different from regular fresh cut restaurant fries.
Kees Benkendorfer
Best fries I’ve ever had. Everything else we got (asparagus salad, Cubano, and donut holes) was also amazing. Waitstaff was super friendly
Maranda Nielson
Duckfat has such good food! I was very impressed with the service. The portions are huge! It's a very busy place so we did have to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth it!
David Bruce
What a wonderful place. The brisket sandwich, poutine with duck confit and the tomato fennel soup were all excellent, and the service for takeout was lovely. The wait for dine in was a bit long (1.5 hours) but that was virtually every place we checked that day.
Alex Nazareth
Very short wait time for a table, fast service, great food and specialty sodas. 5/5 would recommend to anyone in the area.
Madison Strauss
Incredible food. The donut holes were probably the best thing I've ever eaten no joke.
Mark Dinius
Great spot. Service was laid back and very welcoming. Poutine was fantastic, the sandwiches were perfect. Love the eclectic menu. Will definitely be returning.
Chockalingam
Fantastic dishes, amazing prices. Portion size on the milkshake was great!
Dominike Dominike
The milkshakes are amazing nice and creamy thick. The fries were good but honestly I don't see the hype. Definitely would go back for another milkshake though.
Tessa Hane
The food was great. Thought the fries with a flight of sauces was a great idea.
Dave H
Outstanding food and service in a very busy location. Wait in line it is well worth it and the queue moves quickly.
Brittany Willis
Visiting from out of town and we stopped in for arriving from the airport. The staff was very friendly, and it was a very charming atmosphere. My Cubano sandwich was very tasty and we loved trying the different sauces in the sampler.
Jennessa Savelyev
So so tasty!!!! Fries are perfection. Duck confit Bahn mi amazing with garlic aioli/mayo. Brisket panini so flavorful. Thoroughly enjoyed our time, even outside in 45 degree weather, not bad. Wait was 2 hours for indoor but we did take out and sat outside in the outdoor seating area! Loved it
Ysanne B.
I have fond memories of going to Duckfat as a child and the Belgian Fries are still as good as I remembered! The staff is really friendly and the space has good energy, but aside from the fries nothing on the menu really shines.
Therese O'Hara (Tess)
We only had the Belgian Fries, but everything we saw and smelled looked delicious!
Amanda Caiazzo
Just. So. Darn. Good. The milk shakes were delicious! Strawberry and Kates buttermilk, and the cookies and cream 🤤 We also got the poutine with duck confit which was excellent! (I do love duck though) The Cubano was also super good, the meat had a really flavorful smoke taste in it. And the turkey panini was also very enjoyable! All around, an excellent dining experience at duckfat!
Sarah Drury
Delicious savory lunch spot with delight my service (special call out for Ryan!)
Lindsay Hoy
This place was absolutely amazing!!! Completely delicious!! The Creamsicle soda was a refreshing new twist. The French fries were so good we ordered more!! The donuts holes 🤤🤤 favorite dip? Couldn't never pick just one! But that gravy 🥰🥰 …
Yumi Nishad Rahman
We got there 30 min before open and there were already a dozen people waiting. Once we had our first bites we could understand why. Brave the line and be rewarded.
