Went here tonight and coincidentally it's their 30th anniversary as well. The owner came over and she was very friendly and gave out food suggestions. Jenna the waitress also was very friendly and helpful as she helped my party to choose the food. Everything was scrumptious from the bread right up till dessert. They even comp our desserts which is very sweet of them definitely would come again

Dined here on Saturday June 25th after rave reviews from our friends and they were not wrong! Everyone was extremely friendly, from the bussers to the owner and everyone in between. It was like eating over your Italian aunt's house! Fresh bread service with oil, grated cheese and crushed red peppers. Each table is brought a dish of marinated carrots. Oh my lord, the carrots. I could just eat these by the bucket full and be content. For apps we ordered the calamari and bracciolatini. Best calamari I've ever had!! Fresh with the perfect coating. Bracciolatini was tender and delicious. Entrees were their award winning Cavatelli (short homemade pasta with lobster, shrimp and crabmeat in a rose sauce), Vitello mare e Monti (veal with shrimp, mozzarella and prosciutto in a mushroom demiglasse), salmon alla veneziana (salmon with shrimp, clams, mussels and crabmeat in a rose sauce) and gnocchi in a gorganzola sauce. Again everything was wonderful. Pastas are homemade. The gnocchi were like little potato pillows from heaven that just melted in your mouth. Ended things on a perfect sweet note with great desserts including creme brulee, reese's cake, oreo ice cream cake and a limoncello marscarpone cake. We will be back and bring anyone who will let us. Such a friendly, welcoming environment with outstanding food! Do not miss this spot!

Our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia! My husband John and I come to Pesto every time we visit Philadelphia! Connie and Gianna are absolutely wonderful hosts and the food is always delicious! Pesto was one of the only restaurants open when COVID started and I was diagnosed with cancer last September. And Gianna made my husband and I feel right at home when we came to Pesto. We were in a strange town and felt saf and just needed a hot meal and she helped us get our mind off our sad moment. We have continued to visit every time we come to see my surgeon and now I am Cancer Free!

Stopped by while visiting sister in law. The three of us sat at the bar. Dinner was great. Bartender explained a drink to my sister in law. He was very nice one of the management staff was nice as well since I didn't have a mask and was worried if I could enter. Dinner was great. I will come again.

I have zero exaggeration! If you don’t want the PHILLY part, go to Olive Garden! This place is my new favorite restaurant. Did I mention Gianna is eff’ing hysterical?!???

I'm gonna be honest.. when I go out to eat, Italian isn't first on my list. My mind has now changed. Ristorante Pesto is PHENOMENAL. The food is amazing and It is BYOB wine, but you can get drinks there also. Beyond the amazing food and very great portions, the experience is unlike any other. As you walk through the door, the hostess is the owner and is your typical Italian Mom. Always smiles, and gives everyone hugs and kisses... feels just like home and I'm not even Italian. I'm Jewish LOL. Most of the employees are also part of the family or close friends of the family. Service is top-notch, food is the best of the best and everyone is SO welcoming. Honestly, Pesto is one of my favorite places in Philly. Request Jenna or Gianna as your server :)

As a seasoned foodie that is half Italian and proud of Romangola cuisine, my eyes were opened at Ristorante Pesto in Philadelphia tonight. A proper trattoria, true to the craft. Superb home made pasta led by their signature cavatelli with lobster, crab and shrimp in rose sauce. Everything was delicious from the delectable veal monti in it's divine demi glaze, to the clams, the bruschetta and the stuffed eggplant. The tiramisu is authentic, and the home made gelato so good that it transported me back home to Rimini. If all that was not enough, the owners Concetta and Giovanni, who breathe real life into this Italian wonder, made me feel that at last I don't have to travel back to the old country to satisfy my urge for a true Italian meal back home. Their charm and good nature alone merit 5 stars from anyone that appreciates the treasure that is a family run restaurant. Bravi! Grazie mille per tutto.

Took my mom there for her birthday, food was amazing. The appetizers were delicious highly recommended the Bracciolatini, but no matter what you choose you can't go wrong. My mom loved the Cavatelli she rated 5 Stars. And I must say the Crab Stuff Steak was wonderful. The staff gave amazing service. Thank you so much my mom really enjoyed her birthday. If you looking for great food and a great atmosphere definitely give this place a try if you haven't been.

My family and I have been going to Pesto for years! It is one of my South Philly favorites. Authentic Italian food and great service. I recently brought my girlfriends in and we had a great time. Concetta is always so amazing! I recommend getting the gorgonzola gnocchi

Simply the Best!!! I had never been here before but on the recommendation of a really good friend of mine we decided to have my brother's 50th surprise party there. Well the staff was exceptional, the food was superb and the atmosphere was amazing. Connie went out of her way to accommodate us in December which wasn't easy for her I'm sure. My brother was completely surprised. Thank you again. Wish I didn't live 2 hours away:)

I have no idea how this restaurant is rated as a 4.8, but it’s definitely not. I would give this restaurant a 3.9. The customer service was good, and the food is decent. If you’re looking for top notch Italian, though, you can do much better. The Victor Cafe and Dante & Luigis is much better.

I took a date to Pesto this past Saturday and the experience was amazing from the appetizers to dessert. The staff is super friendly and Concetta (owner) welcomes you with a huge smile as soon as you walk in. We had the eggplant rollatini as an appetizer which was incredible. My date had the gnocchi which she loved and I got the chicken parmigiana which was fantastic. We had the tiramisu for dessert which was perfect. The staff was clearly busy throughout the entire night, but they never missed a beat. I can't recommend this restaurant enough and if you're looking for a place to impress a date, look no further than Pesto! -Vivek

I visited Philadelphia for the first time to attend the Army - Navy game with 3 other couples. I was looking for a quality restaurant to have a great dining experience with friends. I FOUND IT Ristorante Pesto Italian Cuisine. We had the pleasure of having the most delicious dinner. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is quaint and what I expected for a downtown Philadelphia location. The service was EXCELLENT; and you could tell the staff pours their heart and soul into the restaurant. Our waiter, Eric was attentive to our needs and was timely throughout the dining experience. Hostess, Jenna, with her effervescent personality gave us a big Italian welcome and set the stage for an AMAZING EXPERIENCE. When asked Jenna shared her recommendations from wine, entree to dessert. THANK YOU Giovanni & Concetta Varallo! Ristorante Pesto is definitely highly recommended; along with the bread basket, burrata, pear salad, cavatelli, black ink, shrimp & lobster ravioli, gnocchi al Pesto, eggplant rollatini, tiramisu, creme brulee!

all around wonderful dining experience! I am ashamed to say that this was the first time I dined at Ristorante Pesto. I felt right at home from the moment I set foot in the door. I was greeted by the owner, Concetta , with open arms (literally). As I waited for the rest of my party, I observed the comradery between Concetta, other patrons and staff. They all seem to know each other by name, which you do not typically find in Philadelphia restaurants. Once seated, the waiters were attentive and also very friendly. We were graciously brought bread, roasted carrots and shortly thereafter some complimentary bruschetta. All of our meals were absolutely delicious. There is no questioning why the Cavatelli with seafood is award winning. It's perfectly cooked with the right balance of sauce and flavor. The Black Ink house specialty and Fettuccine Alfredo were other favorites at our table. After further conversations with Concetta, she graciously sent a slice of Limoncello Mascarpone to our table. Despite our full bellies, we devoured the delectable dessert. It was an all-around fantastic dining experience. Five stars for service, food, value and the general welcoming feeling. I have not had a dining experience this fantastic in years. I have recommended Ristorante Pesto to many friends and family members in the last week and look forward to going back soon.

Wedding Anniversary Dinner...Concetta and Gianna took care of my wife and I, and treated us like Family as soon as we walked in the door...That's the real appeal of this restaurant...We started with the stuffed portabello mushroom and the eggplant, both cooked in a delicious rose sauce. For our entrees, my wife and I each chose the Vitello Mare e Monti, which was veal medallions, prosciutto, and mozzarella cheese with jumbo shrimp, in a mushroom demiglasse, and it was amazing. The homemade Tiramisu and Grand-moms original recipe cheesecake were the perfect way to end our meals! But like I said, as wonderful as the food was, and it was outstanding, the lovely people who own and run this gem were better! Highly recommended...We'll be back!

Listen, it'd no small feat to stay in a healthy, vibrant relationship for 28 years. For that length of time it must be intentional and selective. So where do you go to celebrate in the city with so much to offer with thousands of restaurants? A place that is equally intentional and selective. Ristorante Pesto was exactly the well-balanced marriage of great food and service any lover of food would want. From the richly bathed eggplant to the savory bitterness of the radicchio - the perfectly charred stuffed steak to the exquisite hominess of the Black Ink, Ristorante Pesto is a spectacular journey for the senses. And a visit from Concetta Varallo was a primo end to wonderful dinner. Take the time to absorb this one-of-a-kind, old school, South Philly institution that is irreplaceable. Just don't wait 28 year to do so.

I was surprised by the few negative reviews of this restaurant, because the service really was as described in the positive ones. From the front door greeting by the owner to the waitress at the table and all of the other staff we interacted with, this was a really good experience. The pasta was delicious and al dente. We got complimentary glasses of wine and an appetizer when we said it was our first time. I'm going to bring my mom next time because this was a real family establishment. We also took leftovers home.

Ristorante Pesto was the best Italian food I have ever had. I had the absolute pleasure of dining here a few nights ago and wanted to express the incredible experience I had. First, the service is amazing. The staff here is friendly and accommodating. If not for the food, I will come back for the wonderful woman who greeted us. The atmosphere of the restaurant is perfect, upscale but also comfortable. I ordered the gnocchi with pesto and was blown away. I never knew how good gnocchi could be. If I could give Ristorante Pesto 10 stars, I would. I 100% recommend dining here.

From the moment we walked in we were greeted by an inviting smile from co-owner Concetta Varallo. Although we had no reservation we were quickly seated . We received some bread and excellent pickled carrots as a free appetizer. I started with fagioli and although I preffered a touch more salt, it was one of the best I have enjoyed in my travels. Concetta treated us with two samples of their specials, namely a portabello mushroom and spinach pasta pillow with rose sauce. It was cooked to al dente perfection. This was on the house. I finished with spaghetti vongole in a garlic sauce. I would have preferred the sauce to be a little more creamy, but that is just me. We had good solid service from Eric. Behind the bland façade of the entrance lies a truly exceptional value for money dining experience.

his is the real deal. Authentic and excellent in all the right ways. Food is delicious and cooked perfectly. service is friendly, unpretensious and professional. If you’re like me, you 1. really like calamari and 2. have only ever had some that was at least a bit chewy. Maybe you, also like me, didn’t know there’s not another way. Well friends, there is, and Pesto is where to get it. Breaded to perfection and almost melt-in-your-mouth soft and fresh, this is now the only place I’ll be getting my squid bits from. If that’s not reason enough to check Pesto out, let me give a small run-down on the rest of my experience. We were allowed to bring wine (despite them selling it) and they did not charge a corking fee. We were given fresh bruschetta on the house and the bread was toasted but still soft enough for the texture to compliment the topping. My mother’s burrata exceeded her expectations and the prosciutto that came with it was fresh and thicker than the average cut, but not too thick to be tough. My gnocchi, however, was the real star of our meals. Have you ever had fresh gnocchi? I hadn’t. It’s basically mashed potato pillows. The perfect amount in each bite. The perfect delivery system for whatever delicious sauce you get them in (there are three to choose from). Oh, and lord, don’t get me started on that creme brûlée. When I saw the price of the cannoli ($8) I laughed, but if they’re as good as that creme brûlée was, I’d happily pay it. Aside from the quality of the food, the staff was exceedingly warm, friendly, and attentive. I’m pretty introverted and typically prefer to keep to myself when I’m out eating, but the staff here truly made the effort to make ever exchange a warm one and it was my pleasure to interact with them. Basically, this place is delightful. Treat yourself to a night at Pesto and you won’t regret it.

We had my husband's 70th birthday celebration at Ristorante Pesto. We had our own cozy space for 18 family & friends. It was a wonderful time for all. We ordered the apps ahead of time so they were ready to be served as soon as the waitstaff completed taking dinner orders. The wait staff were great. They were friendly, helpful, efficient and accommodated our needs. The food was delicious as always. Our out of town guests agreed. We brought a birthday cake and ordered Gelato for those who wanted it. We also brought our own wine. Our guests could order mixed drinks from the restaurant or other refreshments. Conchetta was wonderful to work with. She answers calls in a reasonable amount of time and their system lets you know they received your call and will get back to you. I loved knowing that. Our guests all had a wonderful time and that made it all worth it. Just a great place overall.

The restaurant is the best, clean; portions are large, great tasting food, very friendly staff, and the owner visits your table to make sure you are delighted with your meal compared to any other place we have been in 40 years in the city. Every time you go, they are giving your table free appetizers.

Food was fantastic, with a ton of pretty standard Italian options. We were there for a work dinner, so we had a mostly private area closed off from the main dining area. I had the rack of lamb, one of the specials they had that day, and it was delicious. Small bar with a couple of different beers and wines for decent prices, but also BYOB. Friendly staff willing to give recommendations. Would definitely eat there again.

We went there for a last minute Easter dinner. Pesto was very accommodating. The service and the food was perfection. Some of the entrees we had were stuffed pork chop, stuffed steak, chicken parm, and the pasta was homemade. Delicious...Lots of choices to choose from. Nice size portions. The ONLY downside is that you will eat way more food in one sitting than you should because it's just so delicious! The service was incredibly friendly and quick, the menu is robust and full of all of the traditional Italian flavors that you could be looking for, and the food just knocks it all out of the park. We ordered fried calamari as an appetizer and I ate chicken parm with linguine pasta and everything was cooked perfectly! Could not recommend this place more!

This place is great, I'd definitely recommend it. Great Italian food. I got a portobello appetizer and the Monte entree, and both were fantastic, with delicious sauces on them. The service was also spectacular with our bread basket never left empty, and several people, including the owner, checking on us and asking how our meal was. I would highly recommend them. It is a nicer restaurant, so I'd recommend dressing up a bit, and expecting higher (but certainly worth it) prices.

This was my first visit there. It was a bit loud, many tables were filled, but the staff made sure we were very comfortable and we were very well received, even though we didn't have a reservation. My wife and I loved our night out at PESTO. Trip Advisor number 1. Concetta, the owner knows how to make you feel welcome with multiple table visits & conversation. 29 yrs later she still has the enthusiasm of opening week! Oh and the food... The marinated carrot appetizer, OMG. We easily succumbed to the recommendations of the Cavatelli Seafood pasta and Veal Medallion entrees. Wonderful! Then the limoncello mascarpone cake was PERFECT, light lemon taste and moist. WOW!! Marie our waitperson and her helper were super nice as well. Get there early as street parking is a challenge. Out of all the Italian restaurants I've been to in the US, I've never had one with food this incredible, not even in NY, whether they were well known spots or otherwise. Here, it tasted like I was dining in Italy. Everything was fresh, high quality, and tasted homemade. We all tried a bit of each other's dishes, and there wasn't a single thing that tasted short of breathtaking both nights we visited. I would be here all day describing the delicious complex flavors of each dish we tried, so I won't do that. I've honestly never had to do this before, but I have to just list every dish we tried because it was all terrific beyond words and I feel it would be unfair to leave any of them out. For appetizers, we had the Portobello and the Eggplant. For main courses, we had the Cavatelli, Salmon, Lamb Chops, Pollo alla Marsala, Pollo alla Fiorentina(never tried anything like this before, it was amazing), Penne Primavera, and Gnocchi al Pesto. I personally tasted at least a small portion of each one of these dishes and I can't say I've ever had Italian food in any restaurant in the entire country that can even compare to how great these were. I'm extremely particular when it comes to seafood because it's not fresh most places you go to and it tends to taste very strong, which means it's old, but each dish here with seafood was to die for. Everything tasted practically fresh caught and had absolutely no off-putting fishy odors or flavors, not even the salmon, I was shocked. We typically never order desert in restaurants, but we knew we'd regret it if we didn't, so we got the chocolate cake, ricotta cheesecake, hazlenut gelato, vanilla gelato, and the creme brulee. I also tasted each one and what a perfect way to end a perfect dinner. As for the service, the hostesses were great, they treat you like family, and the waitstaff was top notch too. We had two different gentlemen serve us on our visits and they were both very friendly and knowledgeable. The owner even spoke to us on both occasions and was very friendly and had lots of interesting stories. He explained how things were made and prepared, and how he learned to cook in Italy among other things. It was a magnificent experience coming here and we felt right at home. If you're looking for dinner in Philly, you'd be a fool not to come here, it's that good. I was blown away.

We found this gem in South Phila yesterday after searching Google and reading some reviews. Wow, it was great just like what I read. Ristorante Pesto was an awesome experience, my husband and I went for an early anniversary dinner. I’ve been wanting to go to Pestos for a long time & my family took me & my husband for our birthday cause they knew I wanted to go here! Well let me tell u their food was so worth waiting for! Not just the entrée I mean everything was out of this world! They brought us out marinated carrots, string beans, stuffed eggplant that was out of this world plus a few more things that we didn’t even order! There were 8 of us & everyone had something different & said how delicious theirs were! The owner came over a few times to see how everything was going & what a sweetheart she was to the end! I cannot say enough great things about this place from its owner Concetta to the food (Gorgonzola gnocchi is to die for!) My nephew was admitted to CHOPs ICU and all his mother wanted was a good meal. Despite not accepting take out orders on the weekend, Concetta allowed it for us and went above and beyond and comped our meal. Had a terrific meal here while dining outdoors. The outside seating is pretty much just on the sidewalk on Broad St but it provided an extra-urban backdrop for an excellent meal. Started with the Ceasar Salad, which was one of the best I have ever had. The main course was the veal chop, relatively unadorned, but juicy and perfect. Desserts were excellent, as well. Would have loved to have enjoyed the indoor ambiance, but outside seemed the way to go. This place definitely lived up to expectations and then some.

A wonderful Italian restaurant south of center city Philadelphia. We were a college reunion group of friends looking for a good Italian restaurant and we found it at Restaurante Pesto. The attentive staff made us feel at home even though it was our first visit. Roasted red pepper appetizer is not to be missed and the seafood pasta specials and veal parm were excellent. We barely had room to share a cheesecake slice for dessert. But it was well worth it. And it is BYO wine. Looking forward to our next visit when we return to Phila.

Gianna was our server and her dad is the pastry chef who not only makes all the pastries but also the breads and pasta and her mom is the host. The entire family was just the best! We had a great meal. Not too expensive (about 50 a person) and extremely good service. A la carte menu and we had the cavatelli and some appetizers. We all enjoyed our meals. It is a BYOB for wine only and they have a liquor license. Never heard of that before but that was a nice surprise. Everyone of the staff was friendly and welcoming. We will be back!

It was amazing. The people are so nice and it's such a warm atmosphere. Every table get completely bead and marinated Carret. I don't like cooked carrots but these were so good, especially with the bread and butter. We got calamari and ceaser. Both were great. They also gave a free app. It was something wrapped in eggplant. It was pretty good! For dinner I got the shrimp scampi in rose sauce. It is to die for. Same goes for the dessert. My parents mentioned that there anniversary is coming up and we got lemomchello cake for free. We also got the temiso and creme brulee. Again, all amazing. But be warned, it is all big portions and very filling. Be prepared to eat a lot and take food home. It's so worth it in the end!

We come here every couple of months for a solid red gravy meal that has yet to disappoint. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The food is tasty and ample. Reservations are necessary a few weeks out if you plan to visit on the weekend as it has become more popular. Good food and service does that though.

I had to write a review because the food is outstanding, the owner, the staff, the place is amazing! We ordered so much food and the owner sent out prosciutto with burrata, oh my it was heaven! My daughter and mother in-law are gluten free, this for a change, wasn't a problem. They made my daughter Pollo Fioentina. She is still talking about how delicious it was and how she hopes I can learn to make it! We also had chicken parm, black ink pasta, lobster ravioli, cavatelli with seafood, bread, salads, dessert. All of them fresh, beautiful, fantastic! The star of the show for us, the eggplant, it's unforgettable! We never had eggplant with a Rose (vodka sauce) and you should go here immediately and try this! Thank you Maria for such a wonderful experience.

What an excellent place! Visited yesterday for wife's birthday and we could not have chosen a better place for the special occasion. Owner Concetta greeted us very warmly, remembered me from our phone call and got our party of 8 feeling comfortable right away. Excellent specials and despite us being vegetarians, we had plenty of options. When we made a difficult decision of letting go off one entrée as we had ordered one too many, they brought it for us on the house! They let us cut cake at no extra charge and even brought sparkles! This is a hidden gem one shouldn't miss. Definitely make reservations in advance. You'll not be disappointed with the amazing food and even better customer service!

Located in the heart of South Philly, Ristorante Pesto welcomes it's guests with wide open arms and makes everyone feel like family. Vivian, the hostess, adorable,warm and friendly will greet you and get you seated as soon as possible. We had virtually no wait time - albeit we were a tad bit late due to traffic, the restaurant was running pretty darn punctual. I've been to many "unknown" places with obscene wait times so to get seated immediately after a stellar too 5 in the nation review - IMMEDIATELY IMPRESSED. Did I mention down-to-earth people? I felt like Vivian and I were ALREADY friends! We got seated and our waiter for or table was Eric. Again- friendly, attentive - easy to talk to and wanted to make sure everything was up to par. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant and had such attentive and friendly staff - like - it SHOULD be a given, but NEVER is,but HERE IT IS!!!!!!!! Conchetta, the owner's wife, also stopped by our table to chat and always checked in on us to make certain we had everything we needed..The owner, John came over and spoke with us to see if everything was great and if we were enjoying our meal. I can guarantee - if the tiniest complaint was made (which there was nothing to complain about!) he would if fixed it - as would any other of the staff there! Even servers who weren't I servers noninvasively made certain we were taken care of! THE FOOD -.O M G. !!! I thought I died and went to heaven! I've never had carrots in balsamic dressing?! -WHOA!!!! AMAZING!!! That dish I eye-balled earlier in the day on the menu - The Cavatelli -OMG!!!! I can't even! Eggplant - to die for ! Each and every dish was better than the next! I ate till I couldn't eat no more! And don't skip dessert!!!! I've never had a cannoli like the owner/chef John made - seriously ridiculously.amazing. It's all in his homemade crispy, crunchy shell! PS - Make sure to order a gelato Martini as an addition to your dessert order too - it's a must!!! Okay - enough - headed home to dream about heading back here soon - and you should too!! Amazing experiences every time we have been. The food is exquisite. They treat you to marinated carrots and often give you a appetizer sample on the house. They are very attentive and have a wide range of daily specials. Eat banana cream pie for dessert is out of this world. The veal Mari Monte is my go to dinner option. I could eat here every night of the week and not get tired of it. The owner visits each table and make sure you are well taken care of. For a Philadelphia restaurant, the pricing is very reasonable for the very high quality of food and the great experience you get every time you visit.

I came here in February 2017 with my mother and boyfriend after finding it on Trip Advisor. The service here was absolutely outstanding -- comped a free appetizer! And the food was incredible. 10/10 would recommend if you like homemade Italian food. Also on a side note, we noticed that the owner walked around to each person's table, asking how their meal was and occasionally picking up conversations with those that have been in only a handful of times. I applaud their management for making the time to talk to their customers and getting to know them! She even remembered my name as we were leaving. We will definitely be back.

In Google terms it's 5 stars as businesses go, but in the restaurant world you couldn't call it 5 star. It's not nouvelle anything; just the opposite in fact. It is a very traditional Italian restaurant, moderately expensive but a good value. Service is always friendly and there when you want them. It accommodates dozens of tables, packed into a smallish space, but that somehow makes it all the more intimate. Lots of soft materials and surfaces so it's not too noisy when full, which is often. This place has been doing things this way for many years, and they know what they're doing. Advance reservations are recommended on weekends, but during the week you can often get a same-day reservation. Dress is casual to business casual. They always have things on the table to nibble while you're waiting for your food, plus bread and olive oil of course, and every time I've been there for dinner they've brought us a complimentary appetizer the chef whipped up that day. Bring your appetite!

This place is amazing!!! Our friends are regulars there and a group of 10 all decided to go to dinner fri night. We felt very welcomed. The service is wonderful. Owners are fantastic!! From the appetizer to the desserts everything was absolutely delicious!!! I would highly recommend this restaurant!!! AWESOME!!!!!

The stracciatella soup was very tasty however it was served Luke warm, I would of enjoyed it more served hot. The specials sound terrific however they don't print them out. There were so many specials I asked waitress to repeat however I still did not grasp all of them. Not all their pasta is home made but they do charge you as if you were getting homemade.

Went to Pesto last Sunday with another couple. We got tied up in traffic and the restaurant called me to confirm the reservation. They held my table. Upon arrival, we were seated and were treated to some of the best Italian cuisine the city has to offer. The atmosphere is reminiscent of some of the restaurants I have visited in Europe. I would say cozy, casual but classy. Portions are generous and the wait staff is friendly, down to earth, and truly try their utmost to make you comfortable. Best Caprese salad ever! Pasta is homemade. Espresso is authentic Italian. A must visit place for visitors to Philadelphia and a must return place for me!

Stop browsing for other Philadelphia options... if you are within 50 miles of this place, you must consider this your top choice for a great meal with great service. The owner herself paid our table a visit 3x to check in and make sure we had everything we needed for a great experience. And, by everything we needed... tables were treated to free bruschetta, bread with a great olive oil dipping sauce, marinated carrots and eggplant ravioli... FREE! The restaurant keeps providing you these treats to make sure that you feel you are treated like you were home (and in many cases... quite better)! The calamari appetizer was delicious. My wife had the cavatelli special which deserves the praise it has received. I had the Veal Marsala Mare dish which took every part of me to not lick the plate clean. I feel the food and service would demand twice the cost of what we actually paid, because it was THAT GOOD. This was our first time at the restaurant, but I can assuredly say it will not be the last. A wonderful meal deserving of the #1 restaurant status.

So .. after seeing this was one of the best restaurants to eat I’ve decided to give it a shot .. upon arrival we loved the smell and feel of this place .. once seated we were greeted by our waitress.. she rambled off about 15 different specials which seem to all blur together... I did try the eggplant and bruschetta.. both were quite tasty.. I also ordered clams casino .. just terrible.. to me they did not taste anything like clam .. had a weird taste and texture.. I wanted to be polite and not send them back but after my boyfriend tried them we both decided these were not edible.. I tried to quietly explain to the waitress she seemed to be a little displeased about our dilemma.. they were taken off the check .. how ever .. the main course was tasty.. the chicken masala was very good .. better then the white clam sauce. Desert was a Reese explosion that was rich and yummy ! .. I do recommend this restaurant.. I wanted to give a half star for the a little amateurish service but it can be over looked .. the older woman in the from ( maybe the owner? ) was very pleasant ! She smiled and seemed very careful of her clientele!

Pesto is truly one of the great Italian restaurants in the city. Unlike many of the others, you truly get the family feel when you’re here for dinner. We were greeted by the owner, who again came by and checked in on the quality of the food and the service (both of which were beyond good). The food here was on another level, rich, great flavor, and the portions were more than generous to take some home. The eggplant rollatini appetizer was amazing. the fettuccini A alfredo was the best I’ve ever had and the gnocchi my wife had was great as well! Skip Passyunk Ave and head straight here, you won’t regret it!!

The service was great and the manager was very helpful. They would receive 5 stars for that. As much as I tried to enjoy the food I couldn't. I couldn't eat more than a bite of the gnocchi I ordered and the bread basket was dry. The eggplant appetizer was good if you enjoy eggplants. However, the bruscetta was just chopped up tomatoes, it could have used at least balsamic glaze or something. The drinks were okay, but i suggest you byob if you would like a glass of wine.

Ristorante Pesto is one of our favorite Philadelphia restaurants. Located in South Philly it's easy to get to and street parking is available. The food is prepared fresh and features great pasta dishes as well as fish/meat. One of owners greets all patrons and says goodbye at the end of the meal. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We walked in on a Tuesday with 6 people and no reservation, and they accommodated us. We brought our own wine so we didn't try the cocktails (it's nice that you can BYOWine if you want to, but can also order a mixed drink). We ordered a salad and two appetizers for the table before they brought out some appetizers on the house: balsamic pickled carrots, mozzarella, roasted pickles and bruschetta. It was all very delicious! (Even my DH loved, who has told me for our entire marriage that he does not like cooked carrots, loved it all!) Everyone entrees were very tasty. Two of us split a chocolate cake for dessert, which was also very nice. We left with lots of leftovers. The server, Eric, was super helpful and patiently repeated the specials for us. Water glasses were refilled subtly and quickly. The place wasn't overly noisy or quiet. We all had a great time and agreed that we would return.

I’ll start with the negatives. The private room was a little too cold and they claimed they couldn’t adjust the temp and it was a little cramped. The caprese salad was a skip. How do you mess up this basic dish?!? BUT the food was otherwise great, as was the service. The gnocchi was the BEST gnocchi I have ever had by far. Like little fluffy pillows of flavor that melt in your mouth.

Pesto Restaurant is like being back in Italy. Food is great, portions are huge, don't eat for 2 days before you go there because you won't eat for 2 days after you leave. My mother served smaller portions. Yikes! The staff is really accomodating and Concetta, one of the owners, is not only friendly and beautiful, she stopped at our table a number of times to make sure we were happy. Definetly an awesome place to spend the evening with friends or an intimate dinner for family.

Here for a rock n roll run I search Google maps for Philadelphia's best pasta, 4th one down was this restaurant. I read through every review and decided to take a gamble. We were greeted with a "we don't have a table, unless you want to eat on 45 minutes" we took it. The food was the best pasta I have ever had, once they found out we were from out of town we got a free cheesecake as well, we don't even like cheesecake but we ate it and again it was the best. My wife and I arrived for the first time to this restaurant last night, ten minutes after 5pm, to find that reservations are needed. I saw no such indication or opportunity for making reservations on their website and so figured that like some other restaurants reservations are not accepted. After only a minute, the owner appeared and escorted us to a perfect table letting us know, with a warm smile, that it is reserved for other guests arriving in one hour. That was fine for use since we were on our way last night to another event. My wife ordered the salmon entree, and I the Vitello Francese, which was absolutely outstanding veal medallions topped with loads of crab meat in a lemon butter sauce. Before our meals arrived we were treated like very special guests and treated with two generous complimentary sample dishes, and a third just for my wife who due to allergies was unable to eat one of the samplers. Eric and other wait staff were exceptionally cordial, greeting us with genuine friendliness and attentiveness to our needs. In short, I told the owner on my way out, that not only will I be sure and call ahead earlier next time I visit, but that Ristorante Pesto has now become my new most favorite Italian restaurant, and I have dined at several of Philadelphia's best. I write this review in full knowledge that now even more people are likely to go, and they should, which means I may have to call a day or so earlier next time {smile}.

This is actually Elizabeth's husband Al from NC. Here in Philly on business and will have to say that the HIGHLIGHT of my trip was dinner last night! We had no reservations but they found a table for us quickly. The staff were most attentive and the meal was OUTSTANDING!!!!!! Lots of selections and actually hard to figure out what to select. At the end of the evening, I commented that the entire experience reminded me of Wonderful Meals I enjoyed in Rome! You will feel like you have been welcomed into someone's home for the evening.

From the moment we showed up it was like we were home with family (the good kind, where you actually want to visit every day). From the moment we sat down until the moment we left the experience was nothing less than outstanding. We had the calamari, the stuffed eggplant and the stuffed veal for appetizer which were absolutely gorgeous. Then our entrees arrived, everyone got something different: pasta, chicken and veal, everything was stellar. Our taste buds were blown away at every turn. That's why we came back the following night. Can't say enough good things about Ristorante Pesto! My family and I came in before the Rolling Stones concert at Lincoln Financial Field and the restaurant was packed. The owner was able to squeeze us in, which we greatly appreciated. All the staff were friendly and the service we received was great. But, most importantly, the food was delicious! We enjoyed the bruschetta as an appetizer, along with some beautiful salads and a mushroom parmesan dish that was offered on the house. I ordered the pasta primavera which was exceptional, and my family enjoyed their entrees as well. Definitely will be revisiting next time I'm in Philly!

My wife and I just returned from our 25th wedding anniversary in Italy and we were craving Italian food.... They were pretty booked up, but accommodated us because we told them about our anniversary. The second we walked in the door they treated us like family, sent over a delicious free appetizer, and kept checking on us. The best way I can describe this place, it's like you're visiting family on a Sunday afternoon.They are super friendly.... it is casual but it's the best Italian food we have ever had. The whole time we were in Italy we were craving chicken parmesan and shrimp scampi. I can say with absolute certainty the food at this restaurant was better than any of the highest rated food we ate the whole 11 days in Italy!!! Another couple and ourselves visited Philly for the weekend, went to the Philly Symphony, the Barnes Foundation, and dinner. It was a great weekend with one small problem that was fortunately save by the good people from the restaurant. Well, she was absolutely on spot as everything about our dinner went above my expectations. The staff was extremely attentive and professional! The owner made you feel like family! I felt as if I was back at my grandmothers house getting ready for our weekly Sunday meal. The familia! You left feeling as if you have known the owner forever! Now the meal was just amazing! My niece was graduating from Temple May 11th last week and I had the charge of looking for a restaurant that accommodated a large party. I called a few restaurants and then I called Ristorante Pesto, the owner Concetta was very nice and warm from the moment I spoke to her. Concetta went above and beyond to ensure they could accommodate our large party and they did!!! They made it work! From the moment we came in, Concetta welcome our party in, she remembered my name (unfortunately I were late getting there) but by the time I arrived our party was seated. The appetizers were great and they even added extra appetizers on the house. Our server was very attentive and patient to us. Awesome customer service and the plating of food made a very nice first time experience and we will be sure visit again when we come to Philly.

On Tuesday Dec.11th a friend and I got together for dinner at Ristorante Pesto. As always the owner Concetta was warm and welcoming. We started out with wine and appetizer and also got a complimentary Appetizer...I ordered Chicken with spinach and mozzarella in the most delicious sauce. My friend had what she claimed was the best veal saltimbuca she has ever had. The restaurant was packed on a a Tuesday evening which speaks for itself. I forgot a card on the table upon leaving and Conchetta was kind enough to mail it to me. The service and food is top shelf. I recommend it highly to my clients.

Last night my girlfriend and I had a delicious dinner at Ristorante Pesto. The complimentary balsamic vinegar carrots were fantastic (who knew?) as was the bruschetta. We both ordered the vitello alla parmigiana with a side of pasta. The portion was huge and oh so delicious! The wine was also a very generous pour and the Nutello souffle was decadent. Our server, Julian, provided us with impeccable service. He was attentive but not overbearing nor did he ever make us feel rushed. My only regret is that we don't live closer to Philadelphia so that we could frequent this restaurant more often! Thank you to the owners and staff for making this a delightful experience.

The variety, quality, taste, quantity and service are outstanding. If you like lamb chops come to Pesto. The lamb melts in your mouth and is served with a delicious brown pan sauce. The house salad is exceptional. The roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables were just ok and a bit bland. If you like good food at a fair price you have to stop by Ristorante Pesto.

Dinner was great. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to them not allowing me to have penne instead of linguine. I was told that "he" won't change it and I was shown the little blurb on the menu that states that substitutions take away from the integrity of the chef's creations. However, substituting a pasta shouldn't take away from a creation. I made this substitution before with the same waitress so it was a bummer. We had a really nice night. I wanted to let others know becuase some people prefer penne over linguine. The food was great and the apps were wonderful.

We love ristorante pesto! The food is phenomenal and they make you feel right at home. Often there is an appetizer given “on the house” which is a nice touch. The specials are incredible and the homemade pasta is delicious. Seafood is always fresh and cooked well. By far the best Italian restaurant around. Reservations needed and bring your own wine (beer, liquor and wine served there as well). The best dish is what they are known for - cavatelli with shrimp, lobster and crab in a rosé sauce!

I ordered the Linguine Pescatora with red sauce, and the sauce was a perfect compliment to the seafood as well as the al dente noodles which had just enough fight left in them. The cannoli and espresso for dessert were an uncommonly good combination of taste and texture. As a non-Italian, there is no personal sentimentality for me to "round up" the quality of the food or service, and Ristorante Pesto absolutely delivers on both.
