Visited for my first time on Sunday and the food and ambiance was amazing. we ordered the fried calamari which was nice and crispy and my boil was very flavorful. I'm not big on spicy so I was happy to see that they accommodate the level of spice to your liking. I only deducted a star because while the drinks are pretty and taste amazing, I didn't feel that there was any alcohol in my margarita. My friend said the same also. Other than that, I had a great time, the music was great and our server was very attentive.

First, the prawn crackers (at least that's what I think they were) are delicious. Wholly recommend trying them as a thing in general. We had calamari, a shrimp po'boy, and an oyster basket, with sweet potato fries. Everything was pretty solid. Hot and fresh. The shrimp were delicious and the oysters were perfectly juicy. Our only complaint is that our meals could have benefited from a little more salt.

First time visiting and we had such a great experience. From the moment we walked in the hostess greeted us with a friendly demeanor and took us to our table. We had the dungeoness crab boil with potato, corn, and sausage. It was delicious! Our server, Anthony G, was super attentive. He checked on us often, made sure our buckets did not overflow, and came by our table frequently to make sure we didn’t need anything. Overall an awesome dining experience at Hook & Reel.

First time here and I loved it! Cali was an awesome server. A large amount of food. They also have great drink specials. Happy hour 12 until I forgot when which is a great length of time! They have a bar, tons of tables, and a large parking lot. This is a great casual spot to come with some friends you feel comfortable getting dirty with. They do provide bibs and gloves.

Packaya was a great server. Food was good as well. The loud music is a definite turn-off. For the reason alone I will not return. I was under the impression I was in a restaurant not a damn club. Menu fonts too small to ready. Lighting in you booths is dark which makes it almost impossible to read the menu. 18% gratitude which was added to my bill is a disappointment. For 2 people was a bit much.

First time here and my waitress Asa was AMAZING. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. I told her I was from out of town and she made me comfortable with our menus. She knows the ins and outs of the menu. What deals & drinks are worth your money. The food was great, well seasoned and fresh. Definitely a 5/5!!

This was my first time having Seafood Boil in NJ and was excited to try Hook & Reel in Kearny! It was a really nice and clean space. Very friendly Staff especially Yanni my server who was so welcoming and checked-in often to make sure I was doing well. The complimentary shrimp crackers was a nice touch! I had the seafood boil with snow crab cluster and 1/2 pound of shrimp with head on and "Fire" spicy level House blend sauce. The shrimp and crab were fresh and tasty! I wish the blend sauce was more spicy given that I ordered "Fire" and I've had tastier house blend sauce but all in all I did enjoy my experience and liked the food and would definitely come back! (7/10) thanks

First time here and having an amazing time with my husband. Sandro the bartender made absolutely delicious drinks and we had great food as well. Manager was very friendly and he was smiling to guests the entire time. I’m going to come back to this place and recommend it to my friends/family.

Had such an amazing meal here!!! The wait wasn’t long at all to be seated. Our host was super friendly which set the mood for the establishment. The rest of the staff we encountered was just as pleasant. We had Juliana as our server and she was so attentive and gave us recommendations on what to order for drinks— Sandro made our drinks and between the recommendation and the taste of the drink we were definitely happy! We had the lobster bisque - so flavorful; probably best we ever had!! We also really loved the crabmeat fries. 10/10 The crab roll was super tastey too!! We will definitely be returning!!

Came here for Tuesday night dinner. Our server Yanna was great but I took off a star due to the food/drinks. I enjoyed my boil combo, but it lacked enough sauce so I had to order more at a cost. We also tried the oysters which we agreed tasted off for some reason. Lastly, the margaritas (both frozen and on the rocks) were shortlived and didn’t seem to pack much alcohol. Again, our server Yanna was amazing and all the issues were outside of her control. The customer service is amazing but food and drink could use some improvement.

I came to Hook & Reel today because it's my mom's birthday and she was feeling seafood. Josue was our server and he's amazing. Very attentive and sweet in the midst of helping many other tables. Food was plentiful and delicious. Atmosphere is great and just an overall good place with friends and family. Highly recommend

The best H&R experience I’ve had in Jersey. The hostess was all smiles, eager to greet and seat us. She introduced our server, Emili, who was awesome; attentive without hovering, gave the perfect drink recommendations, super polite and personable. The cherry on top was having the manager (at least I think he was) come over to assure us that we were free to stay after closing to watch the football game until halftime and told us not to rush. Overall a great customer experience and I’ll definitely choose this location over the others going forward.

Julianna was my server. She's pretty awesome. High energy and makes great suggestions. You'll love her. The food is really good. Just be careful with the hook and reel special sauce it can be a bit salty if you're salt conscious. I got my seafood boil in the seasoned garlic butter and the hook and reel sauce on the side.

Great seafood place, got the mix and match and it hit the spot. Make sure to not wear anything you love cause it does get a bit messy. The Spicy level is not too bad and things usually come with the perfect amount of sauce. Katie was also a pretty awesome server. If you come here VISIT MALCOLM!!! He hooked us up and got us a better deal than what we expected. We would’ve paid $130.00 for our meal but he got us to save our money by providing a better deal. My son usually orders seafood boils from this restaurant so he recommended me for me to get food from here as well. They have lunch specials going on, so I placed order for a mini seafood boil with shrimp head off Got the Cajun sauce :). Super yummy. The employee who took my order over the phone was Carlize. She’s super polite and explained everything to me really well. Came in, she greeted me and recommended me other food options for next time I come in. Staff, food, and atmosphere amazing!

I ordered from here for a pick up and the food was pretty good. We love seafood and were celebrating an anniversary so we chose this location. Pick up was ok, I had to wait for my food though they told me it was ready when I called. Not a big deal. We each had a seafood boil. Great portions and great taste. If you’re ordering seafood you have to know it’s going to be in the expensive side these days.

Came here on a Friday night, 5 minutes before the kitchen closed. Sandro made sure we got our orders in and received them PRONTO! He made my drink to perfection as well! So I decided to grab a drink while I waited and Abby was my bartender she was very polite and I don't normally drink Henny but she may have just converted me. Over all my visit was very pleasant. The boil, 1lb headless shrimp w/ lemon-pepper sauce, was DELICIOUS, we'll def. go back for that. Fried calamari was a little underseasoned, and was missing some tartar sauce - didn't care about the tomato based one. Our server, Malcolm, was attentive and very nice. They do ask people to leave a review, thus the unusual number of reviews over here, but the true rating (if you ask me) is a well-deserved 4·6.

The guy at the door was decent, but the first server was horrible, seems like he did not want to serve me. The server behind the bar had to come serve me the food etc even then the way he was serving me felt like he was rushing & throwing the stuff on the table annoyingly. No wonder they included tip in the bill because I would've give $0 for tip, I'm only giving 3 stars because the food wasn't bad. Because of the new eating restrictions, called ahead to reserve a table, and customer service as well as the follow through was excellent. They called to update that outdoor seating was temporarily suspended because of sudden weather changes. That was appreciated! Decided to order out over the phone instead and do a pick up - this didn’t take too long. However, upon returning to our hotel (traveled in from NY), we discovered there were NO utensils and my drink was missing from the order. The three star rating is for the ‘over the phone’ service, the set up of the location, and the food wasn’t bad (very plentiful and cheaper, compared to NYC).

Been to Hook and Reel a few times now and this time was just amazing. The restaurant itself is unbelievable every time but what made it different this time was my waiter Malcolm. He went above and beyond. He was an incredible waiter from the time we sat at his table. He was courteous, friendly and upbeat. Our experience started off a bit bumpy with an initial wait time at our table to get greeted by the server of about 20-30 minutes. Once Eduarda introduced herself, we elated to be treated with a shot of sangria on the house (have to note it was very tasty) and a very helpful guidance of the menu since it was our first time visiting. Upon receiving the drinks, it was noticeable that they were wrongfully made. Not long after tasting them, Eduarda returned, acknowledging that the drinks did not look to par and gracefully offered alternatives. The food was absolutely AMAZING and the (I think) rose sangria was spot on. Eduarda was phenomenal, and kuddos to the chef! Also, the “boat crew” member (sorry we didn’t catch your name) whom brought the food and cleared that table, was a pleasure as well. Left very pleased with the turn of events and eager to return to try different menu items.

I usually go straight home from LA Fitness (the gym for those who don’t know), but I didn’t eat breakfast & I was STARVING! So I heard Bad Bunny playing & that is my MAN (IYKYK,LOL)! I only waited about 5 - 8 minutes for my food. My drink was made with so much love & I say with so much love because it was so good! I got the Watermelon Tini & the server who was not my bartender (Christopher) made it for me so I didn’t have to wait long. His kindness was very much appreciated! My bartender (Sandro) was AMAZING! He was nice to me the WHOLE ENTIRE time I was there. He has a very welcoming presence & will make you feel very welcomed! I can say that all past workers who used to work at Hook & Reels who were rude, unprofessional, transphobic, & very homophobic DEFINITELY DO NOT work at the Hook & Reel in Kearny. My personal experience was great! I’m not even exaggerating.. Like.. At all, lol! Before anyone reads this thinking I’m a worker at Hook & Reels or anything of the sort, false. I was VERY hesitant to enter because of the stories I’ve heard when they just opened up, but I had a really great time! Plus, THEY HAVE A WHOLE ENTIRE PRIDE FLAG! I loved that. So I know cancel culture is a thing, but just like the weather & emotions change constantly.. So do people & establishments.
