Reviews of Surrey's Café & Juice Bar
JoAnna Hoang-Le
Best shrimp and grits I've ever had. The fresh orange juice is also very good. Got the green omelette to go because I couldn't decide between the two. I wish I had gotten another shrimp and grits! The crab omelette had a really good amount of crab however the very strong cheese taste made it outputting. I couldn't finish it. It's a very small restaurant so expect a wait. My waitress was attentive and friendly. The prices are a little high but worth it.

This was my 2nd time eating Surrey while in and the food was just as delicious as I remember!! I’ve been trying to recreate the grits at home since I first came in 2013. I have no idea how they get them some creamy but they’re the best grits I’ve ever had. They’re so good and you don’t need to add anything, you can eat them as they are. The French toast, is mind blowing; so good you can eat it without syrup! Another great thing about Surrey is you can bring your own bubbles for mimosas paired with their fresh squeezed juices.
Sarah Yip
I see why Surrey’s is hype. The food is tasty and feels amazing to eat! Be prepared to wait a bit for your seat. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs and salmon! The juice is super fresh! The restaurant interior has a lot of interesting art and decor on the walls.

Wait time: 25-30 min for 3 people. Arrived at 9:30ish on a Saturday.
Shrimp and Grits - Wow. The flavors of the sauce were amazing and the grits were nice and smooth. I cleaned the plate.
Crab Meat Omelette - Simple light dish that was executed well. Omelette stuffed with brie and avocado, topped with a crab gravy. Came with a crumbly biscuit, needed to add jelly/butter to it.
OPM Juice (Orange, Pineapple, Mango) - Delicious! Good combination of fruit and tasted all the flavors equally.
Vibe: Located in the Garden District. Small restaurant with a unique flare.
Parking: Street parking.
Would I return?: YES. Would get the shrimp and grits again.

Amazing people. Amazing food. The shrimp grits is filling and flavorful. The crab omelette was stuffed with fresh avocado and a melted Brie with immense flavor. Let’s not forget about the bananas foster. The best I’ve ever had!!
Goddess A.
This place was amazing! The shrimp and grits were the best I ever tried so far & I’ve had my fair share of shrimp and grits. My fiancé LOVED his crab omelette and so did I. The French toast wasn’t my favorite, but my fiancé loved ittt! We will be back.
Oh yeah, and the OJ is amazing too. Customer service was great as well. Thank you.

When I saw the 4.7 rating my expectations were definitely very high but it was just a bit below what I expected. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything all that special, I had the crab omelette which was recommended to us, and it was pretty good but I guess it just wasn't to my specific taste which isn't anyone's fault so you could partially ignore that. I also had a biscuit with my omelette, which honestly was pretty dreadful, they told me the biscuits were freshly made in house from scratch but what I got was a thick lumpy undercooked doughy mess, couldn't take more than 2 bites of that. Other than that everything else was good but again nothing special.
Colby Gray
Great breakfast spot on magazine. Salmon omelette, homemade biscuit and grits is a favorite. Love their fresh juices too. The Orange, mango and pineapple combo is bomb. Will miss the other uptown location.
Leah Kimble
Overall the meal was good. The French toast was very good. The shrimp and grits was good. My husband said his breakfast was okay.
Meri Slaughter
Great food, great service, and lots of options! They have lots of vegetarian and a few vegan options. I have a dairy allergy, which they were easily able to accommodate. They made a vegan version of the French toast with soy milk, it was delicious! My husband enjoyed the biscuits and sausage gravy and fresh orange juice.
Dylan Greer
Excellent food and fresh juice. The bagels and shrimp and grits are amazing. Be ready to wait so go in and put your name in and have something planned to do while you wait, we went and took pictures and got a coffee while we waited and it was perfect timing
SgtPepper834
Always a wait when you get there for a reason. And it's 100% worth it!! The Costa Rican Breakfast is my current go-to at Surrey's right now. Everything is made to order and you cannot go wrong. Surrey's is one of the best breakfasts in New Orleans. Don't sleep on their lunch options, though!! Everything is incredible!!
Nicolette Tech (Nikita)
Tucked away local neighborhood cafe with both sweet & savory brunch menu items. Vegan & Vegetarian friendly. The fresh fruit juices are definitely worth trying. No outdoor seating and not ideal for groups larger than 6. It’s more of a smaller cafe. I loved the local art on the walls that are also for sale. They also ask you to wait outside the front door for a host to check your vaccine card and seat you.
Kazem Ghazaleh
We heard so much about this place, we went fairly early on a Sunday and managed to get a table immediately, the service was very good, we ordered the crab omelette it was good, the potatoes were OK, the French toast was fantastic. Prices are on the high side. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Sandra A
Recommended by a local and they didn't disappoint! Had the crabmeat omelet and my friend had the shrimp and grits. Also had the OPM (orange, pineapple, mango juice) with ginger and it was delicious. The biscuits were hot and fresh, grits had the right amount of spice and the crab sauce was amazing. Will definitely be back next time I'm in NOLA!
Tina Lee
Wow some of the best brunch I've had in a while! Table favorite were the French toast and shrimp and grits. Definitely recommend!
Marvin Roxas
Cozy, uplifting, and mighty. I had the classic Shrimp and Grits. It wasn’t too heavy, yet the flavor profile was deep and brought forward the meatiness of the shrimp coupled with the grits smothered in the aromatic sauce.
Eating this dish brought back warm, nostalgic memories of comfort.
Judy Ginyard
By far one of the greatest restaurants to visit while in New Orleans. The staff is always so friendly and polite... shrimp and grits and the freshly made lemondae are a must have. My husband also enjoyed their banana foster French toast.
Rahsaan B
Fresh, made to order, and crazy tasty. The shrimp and grits was the best I've ever had. Needed no seasoning unless you want more spice. Apple pear ginger juice - amazing.
Ews
The food was good but they charge a 15% gratitude for take out orders.. the food tasted good overall.. probably worth it if you dine in and make the extra charge with the service..
Tondalayer Talbert
This place right here………the banana foster French toast wow! Shrimp & Grits & the Crab meat omelette. Everything was delicious. Definitely coming back.
Jamiyla Meade
An absolutely necessary stop on your trip to N.O. I loved it so much I squeezed it into my last day as well! The staff is great and the artwork is awesome plus the food is out of this world! The shrimp & grits and the crab melt.....YUMMY!!
Samuel Sirmons
This is a MUST EAT spot in New Orleans. The Bananas Foster French Toast is amazing & the juice bar special "OPM" (orange, pineapple, & mango) is phenomenal! Get there early because this is not a secret how great it is!
Kyle Berry
We were seated and served quickly. We had the bananas foster french toast, biscuits and gravy (both sausage and mushroom gravy), and scrambled eggs. The French toast was great, as was the biscuits and gravy (the mushroom gravy was my favorite). Would absolutely recommend a breakfast at Surrey's!
Jon Childers
Absolutely fantastic. The staff and food were just awesome. This place really has a unique New Orleans vibe. I would highly recommend you check it out.
I just went to my 4th or 5th trip to Surreys. It did not disappoint. We had Rachel as our waitress and she was awesome! Thank you so much for the great time.
Derrick Snell
Delicious! We ordered the crab omelet, traditional eggs plate, and the New Orleans banana French Toast, along with some fresh squeezed orange juice, all Delicious. Great place and awesome staff. Highly recommended.
Michael Willman
AMAZING! Food, service, atmosphere, everything. My wife got the biscuts and gravy, i got a breakfast sandwich on a crossaint, both were the best we ever had!
Justin Taylor
Incredible staff! Incredible food! I wanted everything here. Crossiant sandwhich was amazing! The shrimp and grits was phenomenal (and I’m hard on grits). Must come here!!
Kizzy Vieux
Fantastic. They make their own bread here too.
A Cee
Food excellent & fresh! Apple juice freshly squeezed! Restaurant is small hole in the wall with great food.
Lindsey Mathews
Such a lovely spot the staff were extremely friendly and quick even though they were understaffed. The food was absolutely fantastic and atmosphere was relaxing and the decor beautiful.
Alex Turner
Wonderful! Little bit of a line outside but they were quick it was beautiful outside anyway. Had Migas and boudin patties, highly recommend.
Neat local art on the walls as well and great place for fresh juice.
Errin Abagat
The staff was all friendly and inviting. The food was amazing. The most notable dish was the turkey gumbo, which was the best gumbo we had our entire trip.
Katrina Andutan
My favorite food spot during my NOLA trip. Banana foster French toast, crab omelette, and fresh carrot juice were all so good and satisfying I could have cried. They had a great hot sauce selection. Looked pretty crowded when we arrived as the place is kinda small but the wait wasn't bad and the food comes out fast. Friendly wait staff. Bathroom was clean.
Amanda Liaw
Cute spot!! Lots of great local art on the walls. The special juice (orange mango and something I'm forgetting) with ginger was one of the best juices I've ever had, with just the right spicy amount of ginger (so rare). Homemade biscuits with the crab meat omelette tasted perfect together.
Tonja Horton
This place is a go-to for me and the girls!!! It never disappoints us with great tasting food and service.
Mickey Wilson
The food and service was absolutely! Definitely recommend the shrimp and grits!
Aaron
So yeah. This is a place I’ve walked by many times and never have eaten at cause it’s so busy. Lucked out and I can see why it’s so busy. And I can say if I had to wait to get in, that wait would be worth it. The food was phenomenal. We ordered three things among us and all shared, and all of the things were from the local favs list. I don’t normally splurge with high calorie foods, but we tried the banana’s foster french toast. Certainly something that could be split between 2 or 3 or 4 people amid your other dishes and certainly something I would highly recommend. Just wow.
Amanda C.
Shrimp and Grits are to die for. And I really loved the local art for display/sale.
Jane Mathias
The best brunch place in NOLA. We did not have a reservation so had a 45 mins wait but it was worth it. We order their Orange, Pineapple and Mango juice (OPM) along with their shrimp and grits & Tofu platter over white rice. Their shrimp and grits were so well flavored and creamy I could eat this anyday everyday. My veggie friend did devour her tofu platter as well. Their juices though taste really fresh. Service was quick and they have a few small tables hence the wait. All in all it was a great brunchy experience during our short stay in NOLA.
M Castro
If you blink you'll miss it! So glad we didn't. Very cozy welcoming place. Highly recommended by the MSY Hertz rental counter. Extremely glad we stopped in! Everything was excellent!! Must do whenever we return to NOLA!!
Carina Sackhichand
Fantastic breakfast! The portions are generous and you will leave full! Adrian was cooking up a storm today! Everything was great but I have to give a special mention to the biscuits! DEEElicious!!
Stephen Ledet
Delicious shrimp and grits. The organic juices are great, too.
Sameer Rao
Went to this neighborhood restaurant for breakfast on Magazine street, close to downtown based on all the positive reviews. The good things, great service, friendly, good quantity and pricing. The improvement: The biscuits definitely need improvement, it was flat or had no crunch, fluff or some crispiness. Very soft and lacked bite. The sausage gravy was good but again lacked the killer taste, bit on the salty side. The boudin was excellent, nice taste to it, could have been more crispy. Overall reasonable but the food taste could surely improve.
Be Yourself
This is by far the best restaurant in New Orleans the food was amazing beyond amazing the orange juice was the best I’ve ever had and the service was fantastic. This place is a must! Ask for a seat by the window if possible oh and the prices are amazing and the food portions are fantastic
Kelly Nelson
My girlfriends and I had brunch here while exploring the garden district on a recent trip to NOLA and the food was FANTASTIC!! The place is really small but artsy and cute. Just know that you have to wait outside to be seated so if it’s raining that might be a factor to consider. We had the bananas foster French toast, crab omelet, shrimp and grits and oatmeal and all were delicious!! The French toast was the stand out for me, and their from scratch biscuits! We ended up getting a few of them a la carte and were really happy about that choice. The service was great and the food was fantastic! The portions aren’t as big as some places but was still plenty to fill up. I definitely recommend if you’re in the area!
Dashary
This place is cute and cozy. A must try is the Banana Foster French Toast. The home fries are amazing. My friends had other things and they loved their meals. The only thing that they are missing is some alcoholic drinks and this place would be perfect.
Stuart Burson
Small, cozy dinning room with art on the wall that you can purchase. Place gives off an Austin vibe.
Francis Ayombil
I visited Surrey’s Cafe two consecutive days. The first day I ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich 🥪 and it was amazing along with their fresh orange 🍊 juice. On the second day, I ordered the Costa Rican Breakfast which was so delicious 🤤 and filling as well. If u are someone who loves a heavy breakfast to kickstart ur day and also like rice and beans, that will be ur go to. The Surrey’s cafe did not disappoint and I would highly recommend this place when in NOLA. Cheers 🍻
YK Mitchell
The omelette was nice. I only wish it had more seafood in the sauce. The flavor was on point, the biscuit was fresh and soft. The boudin sausage patties went well with the cheese grits but I'd prefer them to fry them harder next time. I was disappointed that they didn't have their homemade juice but that's no reason to give a bad rating. The service was excellent so, I plan on coming back.
Siavash Sarrafan
I ordered crab omelette. The portion wasn't big. But, it was very delicious.
Service was also pretty good.
Due to its location (close to many hotels and bed & breakfast) it's pretty busy and you may need to wait in line for some time. It's not huge inside.
Overall, I was happy and will probably go back.
Brandon B
Tiny place with a creative character serving delicious hot dishes. Unique art on the walls for entertaining while waiting the your meal. Plenty to choose so lick than one to have an awesome and delightful experience. One check per table and all members of the party must be present in order to sit down. Expect a line on the weekends because a late night deserves a great hangover breakfast for all the late morning risers. Enjoy my foodie connoisseurs!
Christopher Zakem
Not sure what more to say than the single best MEAL I’ve ever had in my entire life. The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the food is phenomenal. The chef came to our table and was extremely friendly. Will be going back ASAP.
Toria Banks
Food was great!!! I had the tofu scramble with a side of grits no cheese. We waited a little under 10 minutes for the food. I could smell the flavors right when the waitress set the food down and knew it would be amazing. I was not disappointed. It was amazing. Wonderful flavor and good portions. My fiance had the crab omelette. He enjoyed his food as well and said it was really good. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be back.
helly
4.5 YUM. Such a delicious plate of shrimps and grits. I could have this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The sauce worked well with the grits and created a great balance, though, I would be satisfied eating it with just the bread (and bacon of course).
Also, this place serves one of the best black coffee ever (not featured sadly). Juice is also really good!! Highly recommend this spot!
Darla Matlock
The food is phenomenal! Quaint New Orleans cafe serving delicious food and fresh juices! Crab omelet with brie and avacado...Ive never eaten anything like it!
Laurie Roberts
Not sure how to decide on what to order so the table is now completely covered with dishes. A pretty healthy menu with so many options. I tried the homemade pressed juice special and it's healthy and delicious. Decided on granola yogurt with fruit and it was delivered quickly and with a lovely presentation. I also chose the bagel plate which I'll probably have to take with me because it will be too much to eat lol and it looks amazing so I'm sure it will be. My boyfriend ordered the bananas foster French toast and holy cow its ridiculously delicious!
The building is small but they fit people in quickly so the wait wasn't long. Everyone is friendly and the whole operation is quite efficient.
I still haven't asked why but the restaurant will only allow one check but at least with multiple forms of payment. This one check thing is definitely a New Orleans thing I need to get used to.
Highly recommended spot!!

We decided to come checkout Surrey’s from a friends suggestion. I am really glad we listened to her! Loved the food. About a 15 minute wait in a nice quiet neighborhood the servers were great (third pic) and the manager (middle of pic) was really cool. My servers made sure my coffee never ran out(very important) my wife had the crab meat omelette and I had the Montana.... sooo much meat and very tasty. This is a must visit location.
Roda Moore
I really liked this quaint spot. The wait is a little long if you don't come at the right time but it didn't seem to be long because we were people watching and seeing things all around us.
The servers were friendly and it was quite fast. The Surrey house breakfast, I added potatoes, I had was filling and hit all the spots for me. Hubbs got the biscuits and sausage gravy, which he really liked. I didn't like the sausage because it was not the sausage patty, it was the linked sausage, and the biscuits to me were a little hard on the outside. We also had their pineapple, mango, and Apple juice blend which was great.
Priscila Melgaço
Definitely the best place in the Garden District to eat. We went for breakfast and it was a experience! The food was amazing taste and beautiful presentation. The place is small but they work really well to get everyone seating fast. No rush, not price, feels like home.
Elisabeth Concepcion
This was the best grits hands down ! The coffee was perfect after a flight in. Staff were friendly and helpful. Especially for any insights into the local scene. I enjoyed the food and would definitely go back if in New Orleans again. Local artists make the paintings and any other sculptures on the site. Try everything u will not be disappointed!
masike turner
Enjoyed Brunch today. I had the Crabmeat omlette. It came with a biscuit thats thicker than a snicker.... Very delicious... i will be back. OH.... Did i mention FRESH SQUEEZED OJ??!! Yea... that part!!!
Katie
Cute funky hole in the wall breakfast joint. The shrimp and grits are amazing, and they were able to do them gluten free which I appreciated.
Laura N
Very friendly service and yummy food. We had a ham and veggie omelet with home fries and a biscuit which were all delicious but the bananas foster French toast was AMAZING! So delicious, decadent and sweet. We shared our plate and it was more than enough for two. Their fresh orange juice was yummy too. Overall it was a great breakfast. Our lyft driver recommended this place and we were not disappointed.
Anesha L
Truly enjoyed this eclectic space. Staff was friendly and quick to seat you. Many things to see and taste. Crab omelette with a homemade biscuit...simple, flavorful and filling. The Banana Foster French toast hands down was excellent! Definitely on my list of stops.
Randy Carlson
Great breakfasts and fresh squeezed OJ
Jonathan Peyton
Great place for breakfast, lunch or brunch! Mardis Gras pancake is epic. Sandwiches are hearty. Pick your favorite famous name for the guest waiting list - people have a lot of fun with this. Juice is very fresh. Thriving atmosphere - good location.
Emily Ling
Small place with big character and delightful plates! Loved all the art on the walls and the casual, local feel. Our server was also super friendly and helpful. The shrimp and grits were PERFECT. Often grits are too watery, etc. I wanted to come back everyday! Expect a short wait, but they’re pretty quick about getting food out and people through.
Kishore Narendran
Best orange juice I've had in a while. The Montana plate proved to be a huge bite, but everything on it was classic and well made. I usually am not a big fan of biscuits and gravy but this place made me feel differently about them. I don't recommend coming here in large groups, its a small restaurant.
Kathleen Sussek
This place has the best breakfast in New Orleans. It’s a small place so get there early or you will have to wait but it is totally worth it!
Jennifer Hamel
Came here for the brunch because my boyfriend has never had grits before. We also ordered the crawfish omelette. I was a little wary because it also had brie in it, but the dish was amazing and it balanced the Cajun sauce well.
Jordan Neuhaus
My wife and I visited this little cafe, because we were passing through on a road trip through the south. I had the salmon lox bagel because I had seen it on television (Triple D). I was blown away by how tasty it was! I would definitely get this sandwich bagel again.
Martina Sliger
Found this gem because we look for places Guy Fieri has featured in DDD.
This place means business when it comes to breakfast on a new level.
We chose the omelet stuffed with crab, avocado smothered in a yummy sauce. Can’t go there and not get the Banana Foster French Toast, it was the bomb, I would this got breakfast lunch and dinner, if that was acceptable 😜. We also got an order of mushroom gravy, bacon and two eggs over easy to go with the biscuit that came with the Omelett, because it’s not really breakfast without bacon. I normally refuse to eat gravy but I gobbled this one up.
Let me just say this, if you walk away hungry from this place, you didn’t do it right. Forget about counting calories or carbs just once and go for it. You won’t regret the flavor explosion!
Wing Lee
The restaurant has beautiful decor. The shrimp n grits was delicious, it’s highly recommend. Creole shrimp omelette was a bit dry.
Jesper Thomschütz
Brilliant food and service. Certainly a bit pricey, but the quality of the food was top notch. My favorite by far was the banana french toast. Ludicrously nice texture with contrasting bites of soft and hard bread along with some excellent banana and caramel flavors. Will certainly returning just for the toast alone before we leave!
Max Savinkov
This is an absolutely phenomenal breakfast jointever in a super polite super nice highly recommended for anybody in town I went to the restaurant when it was the Clemson versus LSU morning and there was a 20-minute wait and they were fairly quick about it it was super packed out front highly recommended to anyone I had the crab omelette absolutely phenomenal my mother had the Greek garden croissant which was also very delicious their breads are all made in-house and they do a very good job at it. The waiters and waitresses are super sweet super nice very open and welcoming and give you one hell of a recommendation. Definitelya place I will return to the atmosphere is super cool as well it's small it's homie it's very cozy on the inside there are lots of pictures and wall art that are available for sale at a very reasonable price as well.

By far the best breakfast we had during our entire visit to New Orleans. Unassuming location with what seems like cool local artist work decorating the walls. All staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. They fill up quick and seems like they typically have a wait. I recommend getting in early to try to beat the rush. And if you don't beat the rush, wait around, the food is worth the wait. The biscuits, the bacon, french toast, eggs, croissant, were all delicious. Did I mention, they have a variety of great tasting naturally squeezed fruit juices? After all it is a juice bar. Definitely worth a visit . . or two. . . Or three if in the area.
Jeff Marsicano
Great little place to grab breakfast or lunch. Excellent service. I got the crab omelette and French toast, both were delicious. The place is small though so show up early to avoid a long wait.
Hailey James-Sorenson
The vegetarian (mushroom) biscuits and gravy were SO GOOD. I would come back just for those, would love to see a vegan version!
Ch N
Delicious shrimp and grits. We also had boudin (our first time), good with hot sauce. Slightly overpriced. Quaint restaurant away from the French quarter.
Tatianna Spencer
This place is worth the wait!! Gorgeous food, fun atmosphere, and lots of fun art on the walls. The shrimp and grits was legendary!
Ahmad Alsalih
Amazing food , great atmosphere & art, easy accessible location & friendly service .
Their menu is diverse & everything seems delicious. We tried the Cubano sandwich (one of the best I ever had, so delish) , tofu omelette platter (very good) & soap of the day (curry, yum).
Many choices if you’re vegetarian too!
Their breakfast menu is server all day , fantastic !
Verl & Jamie Schmidt
We had the crab sandwich and crab omlet. Both were great. Local artists have some New Orleans items there. It's worth the wait!
Miesha Mosee
Now check it, I’ve been to a lot of breakfast places! But this by far was the best! I think they put crack in the French toast cus baybay I was wanting more! If you’re ever in New Orleans this is a must!
Wren M
A great little spot for breakfast or brunch! The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. There can be a bit of a wait on weekends around brunch time but its not too long and its absolutely worth it. The shrimp and grits and bananas foster are especially delicious and their lemonade is just the right amount of sweet. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. It'll be well worth it.
Deron Smithwick
This is very nice small resturant with great food and great service. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. We were supposed to only here once but the food was so good my family voted to eat breakfast here our second day as well. Shrimp and Grits are good as well as the Bananas Foster French Toast. WE WILL EAT HERE AGAIN!!!!
Jetara Whitfield
Awesome quaint diner within walking distance of the riverfront. The shrimp and grits were Amazing! Service was great. Will definitely be back the next time in New Orleans
Danielle Levitt
Delicious food and a really cute atmosphere. We got here around 8:30 and there was no wait, but by 9:15 there was. I had the scrambled eggs and salmon with grits and a biscuit. Loved the entree and grits, but wasn't impressed by the biscuit. My husband had the bananas foster French toast and loved it. The art on the walls is for sale!
Katrina Randall (Free2BTee)
Surrey's came as a recommendation from a friend and he did not steer me wrong. Super cute and quaint little juice bar with excellent food. I ordered the Barbecue Shrimp and Grits, which were amazing. I highly recommend. I also ordered a cup of coffee with chicory and it wasn't the greatest, but the shrimp and grits somehow made up for what it was lacking. The service was quick and good as well. Surrey's gets my stamp of approval.
Patricia Dronzin
Amazing meal, loved everything we ordered. Highly recommend the banana French toast!
Nathan Singleton
I loved it. Definitely check it out. The reviews don’t lie and our server was super nice and friendly. The food was incredible too!
Shanita Bush (MsShaniB)
Food was amazing.
Rachel was so awesome.
Overall experience was worth the 45 minute wait.
Kimberly Nguyen
We had a slight wait, but it was well worth it! We went to breakfast with friends and i can say hole-in-the-wall places like this are the best. Service was awesome. Friendly and fast! All of the dishes we got were so yummy! Cant wait for next time! (posted are two pictures the Baked Creole and Migas with Chorizo)
I forgot to mention that the decor was so eclectic and just funky fun! I couldnt keep my eyes from roaming, especially to the other breakfast plates walking by that I'd love to try next time!
Kevin Below
I think this is hands down the best breakfast I have ever had. We even got it as takeout so I can't even imagine how great it would have been right out of the oven. The BBQ shrimp and grits were the best I had ever had. Additionally the stuffed bananas foster french toast was also the best I had ever had. I can't wait to go back to New Orleans to have Surrey's again. This is a little off the beaten path but Magazine street has a ton of restaurants that are pretty awesome.
David Morrison
A friend of mine recommended this place and I now see why. The staff are super friendly without being overbearing, the food is delicious and pricing very reasonable. Well worth the visit slightly off the main tourist route.
sunny kim
Wife and I both ordered the shrimp and grits. One of the best, if not the best I've had. Plenty of smoke and spice in each bite, with generous portions of shrimp...highly recommend.
Dee Hicks
Food was AMAZING! Everything was really good. The shrimp and grits were to die for!!!!!!!!
Porshae'
This place was amazing. The waitress was very polite and attentive. We had a vegan person in our party, they accommodated them. I had a delicious glass of fresh orange juice and Shrimp and Grits see photo. Prepare to wait but it was worth it.
Amy Milroy
Delicious, quirky little place. The food and service where both outstanding!
VJ
One of the top 5 places to get awesome breakfast! They make fresh squeezed juice, homemade biscuit / croissant and everything we ordered tasted yummy.
Rich Purvis
Had the shrimp and grits, outstanding! My wife let me try her watermelon lemonade, it was great also! Staff was friendly and efficient, food came out quickly. Overall a great experience, highly recommended!
Tabora Johnson Ferguson
Food so excellent we went there three times during our 1 week stay in NOLA! They are so personable! The host remembered us, felt like we were going to breakfast at a friend’s house. Whenever we are in town Surrey’s is a must!
Javier Evans
Great little breakfast spot located on Market Street. The food is good, escpecially the sausauge, shrimp & grits and don't miss the fresh juices. Its a out of the way but worth the trip.
Lydia
Delicious! Cozy small place with friendly service and classic southern options.
Melissa McVey
Bananas Foster French toast is the way to go! The eclectic atmosphere was great too.
Jaclyn Clegg
Food was delicious service was fast. I have a dairy allergy and it was easily accommodated. They also have some vegan items on the menu. We would return. 10/10
susan foote
Great place for casual breakfast or lunch. Good food, good service and a nice selection of fresh juices
Serina Gee
We came on the recommendation of some good friends who WOULD NOT stop talking about this place... And now I can see why! The shrimp and grits were perfect...from the juicy shrimp pieces to the sauce piquant to the texture of the grits. I also loved the crab omelette...fluffy, yet rich and creamy. Juice was delicious though a little expensive for the quantity.

Flawless brunch place. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is out of this world. I've never had anything I don't like. The French toast is amazing. The potatoes are to die for. I don't usually like grits but I LOVE the grits here.
Anita M
DELCIOUS and always great customer service. Our favorites are the best French Toast ever (Pain Perdu) and the breakfast sandwich on a fresh buttery biscuit. Expect an at least 30-minute wait on the weekends, but weekdays are a breeze, in and out in 30 minutes total.
Jp Russek
Cozy laid back place. Good service, appreciated have a hot vegan breakfast option, not too many places donin this city, happened to be delicious too
Tiffany Anderson
Stopped in for a solo brunch before a day of shopping on Magazine. Ordered the special- a Chinese chicken salad sandwich with chips and an iced coffee. The drink was delicious and service relatively quick. The chicken salad was absolutely divine but the bread was hard and inedible.
Bella
Freshly made, juices and bread are homemade. Good portion size. Average.
Rachel Hernandez
Fresh apple juice was fantastic, breakfast was good and filling. Homemade biscuits from scratch! A little on the pricier side.
Jason Kwan
5/5 Quality of Food
5/5 Quantity of Food
5/5 Service
5/5 Value (Price to Food + Service)
The food here is amazing. It is a cozy little cafe with a lot of cool artwork for sale inside. Service is fast as well. I had the shrimp and grits and it was delicious. The sauce is one of the best things I have ever tasted.
Elise Torres
Delicious breakfast spot! Highly recommend the shrimp and grits.
Majed Alashari
One of the best French toast I ever had. Banana forest French toast is a must here. Nice cozy place & nice people.
Dennis Hall
Quaint little restaurant. Very friendly staff. Wait time is usually 10-15 minutes, but it is definitely worth the wait. The shrimp and grits are to die for! Many options to choose from on the menu. Seating is a little cramped, but that doesn’t take away from the food and atmosphere.
Jerry Reptak
We got there at around 9am on a Saturday and there was no wait, when we left at 10, there was a very long wait outside. So get there early!
The French toast was delicious and has banana cream cheese inside. The shrimp were superb. This place was delicious and cheap
Jenni Plaster
The food is amazing! The art is fabulous too!

Verdict: Shrimp and Grits were bangin'. . As good the meal was, the service was just a bit better.
We were greeted by a nice fellow in reddy red red pants who showed us to our seats and brought us coffee. After looking over the menu, our waitress shuffled up to us with her hands folded in an almost apologetic manner, but also eager to take our order. Rachel was her name and service was her game.
We both had the shrimp and grits with extra green onions topped on the creamy pile of grub. I took a bite and put my fork down... "there was a party in my mout and everyone was invited." The cajun gravy was salty spicy good and complimented the grits oh so well. The portion size was just right, even though it was tasty enough to have 2 more servings.
As we had breakfast, Rachel chatted up a few tourists from Italy, made them feel comfortable and wished them fair travels. CIAO! She then moved on to the 3 generations of women next to us and had a conversation with the 7yo granddaughter about her stuffed animal companions - Not a long conversation, but one that put a big smile on grandmother, mother and daughter's faces.
Rachel showed us the same excellent service with a smile. We finished pur meal, left a deserving tip and planned our next trip back. I wish all restaurants were as pleasant as this joint. It's rare to get this level of service here in New Orleans. Top marks.
Gabe Link
Great place for breakfast! Very quaint and fresh made juices! Order the Montana!
Shawn Ross
Amazing breakfast place. You'll need to wait but it's so worth it. The banana fosters stuffed french toast and crab omelette are spectacular!
Fred Seelig
The food here was excellent, but I give it only four stars because the house-made corned beef hash was way too salty.
Emmie J
The food was amazing!!! Just a little too much peanut butter on the pancake. Service was great, no wait time!
Jared Manz
Greatest breakfast on earth. Highly recommend the Shrimp & Grits, Breakfast burrito and banana pancake.
Gabbi M
I read a number of reviews that brought me to this place because it was named as one of the best breakfast places in New Orleans. I ordered the bananas Foster French toast and I agree. The food was outstanding.
Christian Elme Bach
Small cozy place, get there in time for an amazing breakfast experience. They got all sort of treats just waiting to be eaten. We had the stuffed croissant and it was a load of food. We weren't hungry until supper again.
Katriliis Riet
Well worth the wait! Quirky atmosphere with exceptionally tasty food!!! The Banana Frosty French toast was out of this world, as were all the other dishes we ordered.
Eric Jensen
Fun atmosphere, amazing brunch. The bananas foster French toast were wonderful
Sidney NY
Best breakfast and best server Rachel aka Austin TX finest!!!
Awesome Banana Foster French toast is too die for!!!!
Kaylee Dyer
Super delicious local spot for breakfast/brunch. The shrimp and grits were the perfect size with incredible flavor. The boudin biscuit was also incredible. They make their biscuits and bagels from scratch and you can really tell with the flavor. They have soy options as well. So far my favorite meal in NOLA!
Lala A
Top 5 breakfast I've had hands down. So good I'm definitely coming back before I leave. shrimps and grits with Cajun spices, lox and bagel with in-house made from scratch Bagels and crawfish omelette with a boudin sauce. The atmosphere is Corky and playful I love it. The wait staff were so friendly and helpful and giving suggestions of other places to go and eat. I can't wait to come back and try their banana fosters French toast looks amazing. And I cannot forget their fresh juices! So refreshing no sugar added. Just go, eat and enjoy!
Evan Childress
You’ll wait and it’ll be worth every minute. We have eaten here on two separate trips to New Orleans and it has been great both times! We recommend the juice, of course, and crab omelette, bananas foster French toast, and shrimp and grits. I dream about all these things regularly from a thousand miles away. Until next time, Surrey’s!
quintin arnwine
There isn't much to say that has not been said already. The food here is amazing. The shrimp grits have the perfect thickness and the omelets have great consistancy with the eggs. They dont over season their food not do they over spice. The service is well and the servers are friendly and have a sincere of humor. This is one of our breakfast stops when going to NOLA.
The life of Dee
Went there last week for to go and some of my order was wrong. I called making a complaint and Mary called back we agreed to come in and dine. Just left. The food was good like the first time but all orders were right. Staff was really nice. Food came out fast. It's a bit of a wait to sit down but once you're seated it's smooth sailing. I will def be going back. Everything was awesome . Thanks Mary and staff especially the pretty black girl with the glasses who seats people. She's so sweet and polite.
Sarah Rose
A great local brunch spot with fresh juice, delicious ingredients, and affordable prices. The line can be long on the weekends but it was worth it , going back there for a second breakfast on a short trip!
BAYTOR
Good food, nice people. However, it took me forever to get in. If you are looking for a place to eat fast and go, this is not the place.
Chloe P
Very good food, fresh juices, very nice and welcoming people. The biscuit is home made and excellent!
Julian Brooks
Small wait, but it was a Saturday morning. The crab omelet and the fresh juice were Sublime!
Aries Guevara
Awesome food... Must try the shrimp and grits. Also their banana foster French toast... Wonderful. Great Vegetarian/vegan options as well.
Deidra Sampson
Excellence food and service. This was my 1st visit and I am already planning to go back.
Jorge Ruano Patron
Food is worth the wait!!!
The banana pancake, is deep fried so time to break the diet.
Come hungry, and with the will to to eat ;)
Advait Tinaikar
Having brunched at 3 restaurants in the past 4 days this is hands down the best breakfast we’ve had in New Orleans. We ordered the Banana French Toast, which was super soft and divine. The tofu scramble, the home fries, the croissant and roasted veggie omelet were excellently cooked and seasoned. Would definitely be back here and recommend it to anyone.
David Coca
Great food great service and an amazing atmosphere. Don't forget to buy a little house before you go!
Yani
HONESTLY INCREDIBLE!
The Pineapple Orange Mango juice was just so refreshing. We ordered; Migas, Costa Rica, Black Bean Burger and Smoked Salmon! I can't even begin to describe how good all this food was. I ate it so fast I surprised myself! We ate every single thing on our plate. This is a much try for brunch and anything else for that matter.
Kevin Tipton
Great Solid Basic Breakfast Eggs Benidict was great. Montanas Plate was Delicious. Overall a Must Visit
Daniel Hanold
Unpretentious deliciousness. Fast service. Everything was perfect for breakfast / brunch. Favorites: All the juices & the banana French toast.
Tim Guella (Tim Tomaino)
Fantastic breakfast and comfort food options. The best part is they have lots of vegetarian and vegan options.
Life's Lil Luxuries
The food was sooo good! The service was prompt, and our waitress was very attentive. Will definitely come back on our next visit to New Orleans!
Jeremy Drake
This place had a great local feel to it. The staff were all very friendly, especially our waitress Rachel. I would highly recommend the fresh squeeze juice and the French toast!
Ayumi Fielden
Always delicious. The best place to eat shrimp and grits. Best orange juice too!
amantastic
Delicious! Great service! Shrimp and grits were delicious! My son adored the plant based option, the tofu breakfast platte, and the bananas foster french toast was out of this world! Small place but nice and cozy! Will definitely come back next time we visit! This was one of our favorite breakfast stops!!!
Jason S. Allen REALTOR
This is a delightfully funky place serving generous portions of southern charm and hearty meals. You can easily drive past as the colorful front sits comfortably beneath large shade tree planted, perhaps, during the Hoover administration.
Mikeiko Brown
Loved this restaurant. We went twice we enjoyed it so much. Would definitely recommend and return
Mary Lawson
Great food and service! Mediterranean frittata and Shrimp and Grits outstanding!
Monica Bastola (Elyse)
Breakfast was well made. Coffee was so good. They said it was State Street coffee. Can't seem to find where I can buy it. It was that good.
mardi claw
Best shrimp n grits in the city. Bananas foster french toast, corned beef hash with boudin and andouille, crab, avocado n brie omelette and banana pancakes, fresh squeezed juices, lovely staff, great art.
Nicole Liveoak
This is probably the BEST breakfast I've ever had ! I wish I could give them ten stars!!
Neisha Sal
Breakfast was amazing! The banana foster French toast was everything!! Not much a fan of the biscuit, kind of thick but the French toast erased that from my mind! Would def return just for that
Ellie
Very beautiful place. Food is very delicious. Service and staff are very nice and polite. Recommended to visit. However, prices are high. It is not a cheap place.
David Boquet
Quirky and fun. I did not expect to like Bagels and Lox but had to try and was very pleasantly surprised. That was great. The Corned Beef Hash was great. Great service. A lot of fun, truly.
Alisa Kohnfelder
Wonderful experience, great juice great food great service. Can’t speak higher of this place! I went around 1 pm and there was no wait.
Quartz pad
You have to try the fresh squeeze juice! Its really good! I ordered crabmeat omelette and pain perdu and they were delicious :)
David Lindenmuth
Solid food, we enjoyed it a lot. Venue was small and a little bit of an attitude by some of the staff, but not enough to warn others away.
Simone Wilson
Best biscuits ever and the strawberry lemonade is to die for. The crab omelette is amazing!
Damon Laru
I wish I could rate this place 11/10. Our service was profound. The people that came to eat were also nice. Our servers name was Rae. She was extremely welcoming and i liked her tattoos. The lady that sat us recommended some of their fresh house made juices. Great place to experience local and original artwork to enjoy or buy. Definitely making this a regular stop when we visit.
Phylicia Nicolas
French toast is delicious and the corned beef hash was so tasteful!!! Highly recommend!
Lena (creolebeauty82)
The most delicious brunch. It's small but well worth any wait. The juice was fresh pressed and delicious. The biscuits will give you a dose of sleep (in a good way), but so worth the homemade work put into them. The grits were buttery delicious with cream possibly mixed in. The omelet and scrambled eggs were hands down fantastic. I look forward to returning soon.
Lisa Antell
Delicious food! The service was outstanding.
Anna Bellury
Surreys may be my favorite restaurant in the world 😆 I daydream from Atlanta about their 1) stuffed French toast 2) biscuits and mushroom gravy, and 3) shrimp and grits. 🤤 The juices are fresh and delicious. The line is usually a 30+ minute wait, but it’s always worth it! …
Alyssa Carter
This little restaurant is cozy, extremely delicious and just wonderful. Breakfast is available all day. I've tried to order something different every time I go. My daughter always gets the Bananas Foster french toast and it is delicious but on the non-sweet side is the corn beef hash which I got this trip and loved. They are really big servings so plan accordingly. It was the first place I had shrimp and grits that were scrumptious. The service is good, quick and staff is experienced with the menu and the crowd.
Gabriela Oré Menéndez
There is a waiting period here, specially around festivities, but is great. Highly recommended. Great coffee and amazing menu. You can walk around the walk while you wait. It is a really nice neighborhood.
Mike Mullens
Me and my husband went to this place on our first morning in New Orleans as a married couple. This place is absolutely amazing and the staff is so friendly and ready to serve. The food was completely out of this world. The chef cooking and making the dishes up is absolutely fabulous. This will be my breakfast spot everytime we come to this city. Thank you Surrey's for delivering such an awesome experience with fantastic food.
Crystal Chu
Yes!!! Get the banana fosters french toast! I don't usually like french toast, nor even caramel, and this was BOMB! The boudin was good too.
Glenn Jones
Recommend to us by local New Orleanians and it didn’t disappoint. My Costa Rican breakfast was perfection. Quality service too.
Brad T.
Unique dishes true to the New Orleans hype. Amazing breakfast and juices that are 100% ready to never disappoint.
Elizabeth Limonta
Truly a Religious experience. The banana fosters changed my life and the biscuits and gravy is my new favorite food.
Amandine DAGO
Be ready to wait in line as a Sunday's brunch tradition everywhere in the world. Over all, service was fast, the French toasts were good. The decoration is cool.
Joey Homrighausen
I had the French toast, made with real French bread! It was perfect. You have to have the fresh squeezed juice, my wife had the orange juice and I had the OPM, Orange pineapple and mango!!! Will definitely be back!
Lakiwa D
Shrimp and Grits are the best in the city! Fast service and friendly staff.
Laureen Vartanian
Surrey's serves the best breakfast in the Magazine District. We annually visit New Orleans and it's our first stop for breakfast. You'll discover consuming their Bananas Foster's French Toast is a religious experience!
solotheartist1
Surrey’s is amazing with food and service there is always a line waiting to eat in here. With fresh fruit and veggie smoothies served up on the regular basis. The food is so delicious, do yourself a favor and go here
Lindsey A
Can't say enough about this place. Almost don't want to tell anyone about it so there is no line, but cat has been outta the bag for years! The bananas foster and the shrimp and grits-- no reason to order anything else!
Heidi Chaffee
Delicious shrimp and grits!!! Flavorful, fresh food, and fast service. Love the vibes and unique interior decor.
alex shaffett
i dined around 8am so i got to beat the crowd!
the staff is super friendly and very knowledgable of their menu!
once we ordered, the food came out at a very reasonable time and everything was absolutely excellent as well as the coffee :)

What a fantastic treasure find in the Garden District. Quaint and personal feel surrounds you with local art and decor.
Breakfast was truly a New Orleans treat.
Cassandra Sim
Our first meal in New Orleans and it really set the bar high. We had the shrimp and grits, and the crab avocado omelette with biscuit. A+!
Rukhaiya Husain
Service was grand. They do follow county ordinances and will check for proof of negative test or vaccination (both front AND back of card) physically or digitally.
We didn't know about the back of card requirement, so we were served take-out instead. Totally worth it. Service was phenomenal, with southern charm, and the food was a great start to our New Orleans experience. Fresh squeezed limeade, lemonade and orange juice too!
Ayaka Kaneko
Worth the wait. Best French toast ever! Boudin patties..... awesomeness!!!
Jakub Szrodt
Traditional New Orleans breakfast, everything is made with love and fresh ingredients, cozy vibes and super friendly service, a must try!! (The banana bread is OUT OF THIS WORLD!)
Jillian Napolitano
Cute hole in the wall with HOT FRESH FOOD. Great friendly service and worth the walk from the hotel. A new addition to our many more trips to the area.
Tyler Radford
The service was fantastic and the pancake was not only delicious but gigantic. It blends two lifelong soulmates peanut butter and bananas in a pancake. I also love the rustic diner feel it has.
Jon Land
Yum! Worthwhile seeking out this little breakfast Cafe. The shrimp and grits was delicious!
Madeleine
Absolutely delicious brunch!! I had the crab omelette with grits and it was so good. Everything well priced too.
Douglas Bell
Came here on my way to a set. They were quite busy but still made it a point to get me an order together in a snap. I'm picky about my bagels but Surrey's has it right. I got a bagel with lox and was quite satisfied. 5 stars guys! Keep it up.
Cachet Currie
The Bananas Foster French toast was to die for. Speechless after first bite. Very friendly staff. The coffee was horrible but didn’t take away from the experience.
Brittany
Probably the best bagel I’ve ever had. All their breads are homemade (biscuits, croissants, bagels). Portions were generous and prices were fair. The fresh squeeze juices are good too. Our waitress was so sweet too
Narda Black
Amazing breakfast, eat here... You'll be so glad you did!
Sho S
This place has great breakfast! The Banana Foster french toast was to die for. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because my daughter's chocolate milk had a bug floating on top of it when the server bought it to the table. It probably flew in after she poured it, but she quickly took action to correct it. Overall wonderful place!
Miko Simmons
Delicious shrimp and grits. Biscuits are oh so yummy. Quirky decor, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back.
Venus F- Perry
While visiting New Orleans we tried this small homey little place. We ate there 3 days in a row. Yup! Its hard to find great food when you're out of town. This place was great the shrimp and grits were the best!!. I tried crabmeat melt, and scrambled eggs and salmon both were not a favorite.
Jasmine Mangual
Simple breakfast spot with very tasty food and the fresh juice was really good. We were able to find some gluten free options on the menu for a person in our party. The crab omelette with a biscuit was delicious.
Lindsey Kellim
Best breakfast I've had in months.
Potatoes were perfectly tender, biscuit had a hot crisp and was fluffy, and the gravy was not boring.
Falita Friday
I highly recommend this place! The food was amazing and their customer service is impeccable!
Andrea Valeria Muratore
I was something "healthy" because I was tired of burguers and that's stuff. This is a really good place and the best juice ever
Larry Loorya II
Awesome Breakfast place, food is prepard from scratch. Service is awesome definitely going back
Jessie Russell
A formerly nola-local friend recommended Surrey's, it's her favorite and I get it! We intentionally went very early, and then again at a less busy time so we never waited in line for seating but it would have been worth while to do so. Our service was *excellent* and the food is even better! I loved every dish I tried. The fresh juices were all delicious. The grits are absolutely dreamy, yum seasoned potatoes, the bacon is perfectly crunchewy (not a typo). Both the sausage gravy and the mushroom gravy for the biscuits are the best I've had in a decade. I'll spend the next few years about the country finding every other b&g inadequate, fantasizing about when I can get back to Nola for those again. The bananas foster French toast is too rich for me eat alone but it was an excellent dessert type dish to share, no regrets there! The single bathroom was my only real frustration, I had to wait a long time to use it each time we ate there. The uneven floor proved a bit of a hardship for my back but my group and I did a little bit of musical chairs each time we sat down until all were in manageable conditions with the varied chairs. The adorable little space is not accessibility friendly. As an on and off mobility device user, I don't think I could get a wheeled chair or the like in the door on my own. This was a chronic finding in the majority of my Nola exploring, a consequence of it being such an old city. I would love to see their digs remodeled with accessibility in mind. I'm very grateful to now have Surrey's on my own list of favorites and will return asap.
Rebecca Bucky Willis
The shrimp and grits were peeeerfect!!! 😲😲😲 ! This place is now a must-visit restaurant the next time I'm in New Orleans. …
Ymmen Goel
Nice food. The waitress was really energetic. We ordered banana french toast and omelete with crab sauce. Both were so good. Also ordered thier opm juice which is a mixture of orange, pineapple and mango. The juice was fresh not canned. They accepted only cash but they have an onsite atm so it wasnt a problem.
april caine
The food was delicious. I had the crab omelet, cheese grits and French toast. I wish they had this restaurant in every state.
FUEL
This is an outstanding little joint for breakfast. Service was great, food was incredibly flavorful, hot, fast, beautiful. The menu is concise, with very solid options and its own flare. Great little interior, wife and I had a very cozy and memorable meal here.
josh clark
Cheap prices and fantastic food. A must try for anyone traveling through New Orleans. Biscuits and gravy were phenomenal and more than I was able to eat
Jonathan Saenz
Could possibly be the best corned beef hash I've ever had! My issue when I order corned beef hash is, there is hardly any corned beef... not here at Surrey's. Had the biggest pieces of corned beef I've ever had in hash.
Howard West (West)
Great specials for breakfast and lunch. Every item on the menu is made in a unique way. Best grits I've had in NOLA
caroline langevin
Super yummy with healthy options! Great coffee. Happy they had soy milk for creamer.
Benjamin Clemons
This place is simply fantastic! The shrimp and grits are unbelievable and crab omlette was devine. Definitely a must visit!
Cristina Lopez
Simply the best-gourmet food, quality service, and reasonable prices.
Cynthia Thomas
Excellent food. I dont like shrimp and grits normally but their shrimp n grits were delicious. The hostess and waitstaff gave me over the top service. I will definitely be going back. Triple D hit it right with this one. Loved it!
Trinice D
The shrimp and grits was clearly made with love.
Raymond Moss
Best way to describe this cafe is "WOW!!!".
The shrimp and grits were amazing and the banana fosters French toast has forever altered the way I meas ure the flavor of great french toast. All I could say is those two dishes are a MUST TRY. I really don't want to get into describing how great it was because I will become food depressed over the fact that I cannot have none at this moment because I do not live in New Orleans. In one visit this cafe has won My #1 spot for breakfast cafe in America. Their attention to freshness and flavor is on another level 👍🏾
Shawn Joyave
My favorite breakfast spot in New Orleans. The shrimp and grits have to be the best I've ever had. My gf got the banana foster French toast and I had a few bites and my taste buds exploded!! Please give this place a try.
Brandon Bruffett
I was actually visiting a tattoo shop right next door. Though I have been to sureys & it was always a pleasant experience. Staff is super cool. I put a fatty in the air on the drive there & was obviously too 🔥 for public they acted like they didn't even notice(they totally knew, right??). I'm pretty sure their biscuit game is on fleek
amir naimi
Cute little cafe serving breakfast and lunch . Excellent service food is very good also . If you’re in the area it’s hard to find a better breakfast
Canton Carr
My second time here. Food is amazing worth the wait outside. Every time I come to New Orleans it's a must go.
Marin Tack
Incredible! We had the Banana Foster French Toast and the Shrimp n Grits. Definitely will be back! (Be aware that they are doing cash only at the moment!)
Eric Arundel
Good food, fun atmosphere. Took about 30 minutes to get a seat at 11 am on a Monday. Biscuits and gravy were a little spicy for us northerners, but good. Sausage was amazing! And French toast was pretty good. Loved the banana foster sauce. Price was decent for the food quality.
Ebony Simmons
The shrimp and grits were amazing. The French toast was amazing. The establishment is beautiful and the people were very kind. I would definitely recommend. We did have a wait of about 30 mins which they warned us about but the food came out promptly once we placed our order.
UPDATE (recent visit): Bananas foster French Toast is so so delicious and so was the cuban breakfast. Added chorizo and bacon to the Cuban breakfast with over easy eggs.
Will be back of course!
Brittany Hosler
My husband and I loved this place for brunch. I had the amazing bananas foster french toast and he loved the freshly made bagels. The juice was a bit pricey, but it was good and obviously very fresh. The hostess was very kind as well as the rest of the staff. Would definitely go back.
Mikey Vongdara
Absolutely fantastic! Best grits I've ever had in my life :)
Crystal Dukate
Absolutely fantastic food! Cute little place and the service was great and food came out SO fast! Definitely recommend!
Tahsin Khan
Great breakfast! Crab omelette and shrill and grits were great! Reasonably priced. Located nearby are some decent coffee shops, courtyard brewery and pubs/bars. Not a fancy place to sit down, but for breakfast or brunch it's good enough. I would recommend trying it out at least once!
John Williams
Shrimp and grits....delicious, well prepared and filling. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Nicholas Lekatsas
I took a photo of their special's in 2011, to my surprised they still offer the hog's head benedict for the SAME PRICE six years later. Still delicious, portions are huge but you're not keeping up with inflation!
Lindsay J
The food is always great. Plenty of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Service is friendly and efficient. The wait can be long, especially on a weekend, but it’s WORTH IT. Pop down the street to French Truck so you have a coffee while you wait, and you’re golden. (Watch the sprinklers on the house to the south if that’s where you’re standing. Unless you’re up for a refreshing surprise). Surrey’s is always on the list when we visit New Orleans.
Sarah A
No frowning hipsters here! The food at Surrey's is good. It's the "fill you up" brunch that will actually power you until dinner. I got the migas with chorizo and they didn't skimp on chopped veggies or chorizo for that matter. The service was quick. They were busy but still kind which for me is the most important part particularly for a service spot in New Orleans. Serving your po'boy with a side of attitude. But not here! Will be a regular.
arif alam
Wow ! Amazing place for breakfast. Loved everything on the menu. The freshly squeezed juices were delicious. And they serve the best biscuits. Service was excellent and helpful. There was a genuine desire to help us have a great experience. Run and have breakfast there, don't wait. Run there and bring your appetite with you.
Jesus Guevara
Small place, no more than a group of four, perfect for the wife and I. They are creative and placed condiment on the wall, to save space on the table for the well portion plate of food. It was so good and I had to force myself to stop eating. Recommend the shrimp and grits, every bite was AMAZING. Also they appreciate military members... Would love to go back again.
Tony Parker
This place was awesome, came back 2 days in a row.......
John B Barrett
Guess we we're lucky, didn't have to wait for table. Seated at window table, ordered traditional breakfast of eggs and bacon / sausage. All 3 orders came out quickly .Only complaint was coffee and refills were warm. I prefer hot coffee. overall great service, prices was very reasonable. Will return.
James Cook
I had an amazing crab omelet here. Great service, friendly staff and their juice was amazing too.
Anthony Sothern-Avery
I really enjoyed the food here. I got the Pain Perdu(French Toast,New Orleans style) & The Shrimp & Grits. Pricing was fine and the portions were large and tasted wonderful. I especially loved their juice as did my party(I had the limeade). The overall service was decent for the style of restaurant and the wait was not horrible especially since we had 11 people. A great final stop before heading home from vacation I would definitely recommend for a great local spot.
Giuseppe Scapeccia
Staple American breakfast diner experience with Latin flare and influence. Shrimps and grits absolutely recommended.
Emanuel Stiles
WOOOOOW best breakfast place ever. I was sooo happy with my order, Banana Foster French Toast. Hands down the best french toast I've ever had. What was so unique to me was the cream cheese it included because it was banana flavored. The sweet rum sauce it came with was also very delicious... I cleaned my plate to the rim. My friend ordered the crab meat omelette and that was really good as well. I thought the portions were perfect, not too small or big. There were no leftovers though because it was all so tasty!
K. Clark
The scrambled eggs +salmon and capers meal is to die for!! Highly recommend
Jay Gomes
Went there for Halloween the morning of and it was great. The food was amazing, but there was also this waitress there with a Kirara tattoo and she was just pure good energy and you could see (at least that day) that she was really enjoying her job and was super adorable.
Jessica Raimundo
The food is delicious! We ordered the bananas foster French toast, shrimp and grits and the crab melt sand which with potato salad and a fresh juice and all of it was fantastic. Our waiter Tom was friendly.
Marieboo Bourdeau
We were really thirsty from walking aroung and visiting and went there to have a good juice. You would expect for a place called "Surrey's Café and juice bar" to have plenty of choices. We had a salad, it was ok.
Tiffany Vicks
The food here is really good. I've only been twice when visiting New Orleans and had brunch both times. I really enjoyed the crab omelette. They also have very good biscuits. The servers are nice and knowledgeable about the menu. The only problem I have is that there's always a long wait, and since it's so small they don't have any seating for parties waiting to be seated.
June Johnson
We had a wonderful brunch at Surrey's for my girl's getaway weekend. The atmosphere is quaint and quirky and we loved it. (The walking tour of the Garden District is a fabulous way to burn off the calories consumed ;) The food was quick and delicious and it did not disappoint! We all ordered the same thing, the crab meat omelette. Warm, tasty and a great amount of crab in the sauce. Their homemade biscuits were delectable, and perfect with jelly. I had the fresh squeezed orange juice and my friends had orange, grapefruit and ginger drinks and raved about it. Would definitely go back the next time I'm in NOLA!
Nunya Biness (Shan nun)
Very BUSY. Good food but in pretty small portions for what you pay for. It's small and intimate, def wouldn't bring a large party of 4 or more. Not super kid friendly. My omelette only came with one side and I didn't feel like it was a full breakfast. The orange juice is VERY good but $6 for a large OJ was pretty steep considering it was non alcoholic. Like, you could press oranges at home for way less. It was overall nice but we def felt rushed in and out. I would come here again if I wasn't really looking for a big breakfast/brunch.
Chukwudozie “Chido” Enweze
The crab omelet wasn't as good as you would think. The shrimp and grits was great so was the French toast. Main gripe about this place is that the tables are small so don't go with a big group. There was 4 of us and the table was very crowded

Myself and 3 friends ate brunch here, the crabmeat omelet and shrimp and grits are to die for. Our server Tom was very hospitable and attentive. And you can bring your own champagne(we did this) to make mimosas with there delicious juices. Must go to!
Austin Walker
Surrey's is a great stop for a delicious breakfast, juice, and coffee. All of their juices are made fresh every morning and are as fresh as you can get. Their shrimp and grits were good as was their breakfast hash. My only complaint/suggestion would be to have larger tables for big parties. We had four people and there was barely enough room on each table for us to fit all of our food and coffee.
An additional point to note is that they do not serve alcohol, but you can bring your own, which is great. We brought a bottle of champagne and it was an excellent addition to the OJ!
John Bemis
Great place for breakfast! Good coffee.
M M
Favorite brunch place in the city! So I hesitate to post a review since others will now know about the greatness of this place.
Everyone I have brought here all say that this was where they had their best meal. Get the shrimp and grits and their Banana Foster French toast. They are both amazing in their own right.
You will thank me.

This place is a shotgun house converted into a cozy and stylish restaurant that kept it's original charm. It's decorated with cool art you can actually buy, I'm assuming from local artists although I didn't verify this.
When you walk in there's free reading materials for those who like to read with their coffee (nice lil' perk), and speaking of coffee I recommend you try a cup because it's delicious! The wait staff is friendly and laid back much like the atmosphere.
The menu is simple, and the prices are reasonable. You can order lunch during breakfast for those wanting something different.
The food arrived in a timely fashion, was fresh and absolutely delicious. My banana pancake was big enough to block out the sun. Props to the chefs for their pancake flipping skills. I will definitely be visiting again to try more of their dishes. It was a great dining experience!
Casey Volanth
Bananas fosters French toast is to die for.. shrimp and grits is great too!
Yuri Johnson
This place was highly recommended and the food backs it up. I ordered Shrimp & Grits. It's bussing fosho
Alec Henken
Wow, juice bar doesn't begin to describe this place. I didn't even order juice. Great coffee, and delicious New Orleans takes on classic breakfasts. Full menu, space to sit down. Great place. We managed to squeeze 8 people in, but I wouldn't try to fit a larger group than that. We had a great experience.
Melissa Cecchine
Really enjoyed this place for brunch. I reluctantly ordered the French toast concerned that it would be way too sweet. I was so pleasantly surprised. It had a great flavor while not being overly sweet. My boyfriend got the shrimp and grits and loved it. Highly recommend the biscuits which we got as an app. Also got a fresh juice with carrots and beets to wash it all down.
Roman Guerrero
The food was amazing. Excellent service and gray juice. I'm not big on seafood but we are in new Orleans and I got the shrimp and grits. Wow. My wife got the corn beef hash and it was excellent. If your looking for a good place to eat you have to try this place out.
Makayla Predhome
I've never had grits before and wasn't sure if I'd like them, but I figured I'd ever there was a place to try them this was it. I could not have been more correct! The shrimp and grits were awesome! My husband had the crab omelette which was also very very good. Service was amazing, everyone was extremely friendly and quick! Definitely a must place to eat!
Joshua Rivera
Great quaint restaurant close to the French Quarter. You can tell both locals and visitors alike come for the savory food. Had a scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, home fries, and a wonderful homemade biscuit. We also order the banana foster which was made with sourdough bread. Both meals were excellent and well portioned. Service was great and they even have local art for sale on the walls. If you like breakfast, this place is a must.
Candy Ryan
The banana French toast was amazing. They cooked eggs over medium correctly which I find difficult for restaurants to do. The wait was pretty long 45 mins but it was really worth it. The staff was nice and helpful and made no mistakes.
Nicole Scott
We arrived and there was a line and we were told it was an hour wait but it maybe ended up 20-30 minutes. Coffee was good, shrimp and grits were also great. The homemade bagels were amazing! We tried a few other things but highly recommend these items. Tom served us well!
Seth Zimmerman
The shrimp and grits was AMAZING!! It had its own New Orleans style, with Cajun seasoning and well made grits. Our server Craig was excellent too. So funny and attentive. Long wait but you can put your name in and walk around Magazine street, which is always fun. Overall such a great place!
john white
A very delicious place that I started my day with twice. Very chill, easygoing restaurant. The service was great & the decor was something to see. The banana pancake I had was almost as big as a manhole cover. I highly recommend it if you're in New Orleans.

Wanted to tell you about this while it was fresh in my mind (and give my food time to settle before the next food adventure!). This was close to our hotel and my fist choice was closed on Sundays so we went to Yelp & it didn't disappoint!
It's on Magazine St, in a good neighborhood. Street parking is plenty, at least this Sunday. By the time we went around the block to find parking on a side street, there was a congregation of people. You put your name on the list and you wait outside for them to call your name. There is also a small counter, but they'll ask in order of names who wants to sit there. We waited about 5 more minutes and got a table. It's a small dining area and it was packed. They are famous for fresh juice and great food (just check out the Yelp reviews!!). Wife got a small (12oz) OJ and I got a large 17oz carrot juice. Wife's a closer to room temperature but still fresh. Mine was cool and fresh as well.
Wife ordered a specialty, Crab Omelette and I ordered the Creole Eggs, which was off the regular menu. It was eggs with green peppers and onions and covered in cheese and baked in the oven. I also got a side of house fries (potatoes). Everything was great, including the service!
I would absolutely recommend you eat here while in NOLA.
Bendja Bedejuste
The highlight of our girls’ trip!!
Listennnnnnnnn!!!! That shrimp and grits is a MUST try. It was soooo good that I refuse to eat shrimp and grits anywhere else in NOLA. The homemade lemonade amazing, not overly sweet. That Pain perdu, one word DELICIOUS. Would go back to NOLA in a heartbeat for this place alone!!!
Colt Babin
The atmosphere is small and cozy with a great New Orleans feel... they were busy for a weekday but I was able to occupy the last available table when I walked in! #score The entire staff was super friendly and on point!! Every dish that I saw come out of the kitchen looked phenomenal!! I wish I could have tried one of each...lol. I went with the Shrimp and Grits and they did not disappoint!! It was my first time having Shrimp and Grits so I don't have anything to compare them to but they were amazing!! I definitely recommend trying this place and I will be back!!
Larayna Gilmor
Great breakfast, super friendly staff, laid back vide!!!!
John Bingham
Plenty of character. Great waiters! Awesome authentic breakfast.
Brandon
I was recommended to visit here by locals, and I was glad I stopped by. It's a cute, rustic breakfast/lunch spot with unique entree options, great coffee, and really good, freshly pressed juice. Ask for their daily juice specials.
The staff was friendly and courteous, and they were quite helpful answering my local travel questions.
I got their Baked Creole Breakfast with a biscuit, pineapple-orange-mango juice and coffee. I would definitely come back.
Michael Buell
Very good breakfast in a local neighborhood establishment. Everyone was happy. Lean meats. Heavy biscuits. Eggs seemed larger and more flavorful than usual. Grits were good and creamy. I couldn't finish the Montana not my wife her scramble.
Ashley Hendrix
Absolutely amazing breakfast/brunch. I got the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and goat cheese. The corned beef was packed with warm flavors and the eggs and potatoes set the dish off. Great homemade bagels and fresh organic juice. Surrey’s was suggested to me from a local friend. I’ll make this a go to “must” anytime I come to New Orleans.
Sean Colvin
Had the shrimp and grits, espresso and some fresh squeezed juice. It was all great. Service was fast. Heading back there this morning for another round!
Louis
Super accommodating and attentive staff! Superb food!
Qimar Alfasi
This is the kind of food that makes u go wow. Service is excellent! Small place that packs a punch.
Amanda Saczawa
Highly recommend the Bananas Foster French Toast for breakfast! This was absolutely to die for and the best breakfast I have ever tasted!! The biscuits were deliscious and so dense. Wish there was a Surrey’s back in Massachusetts. The cook definitely needs a pay raise with this menu. The restaurant was very clean and cozy.
Patricia Buck
Food was delicious. Vegetable omelette was very flavorful. I had not had a bagel for a long time and it was superb. If you're going on a Sunday go early because by 10:30 it was extremely busy. Definitely would go back.
Chien-Feng Lee
Been this place at my last day of the trip in Nola. I don’t know how to show how much I love this place. While I got the first bite of the banana foster, it feels like the food just completed my trip! I definitely will visit this place once I come back. Strongly recommend to everyone who wants to have a great breakfast to start a day.
Amanda Walker
Food is delicious. Tight squeeze, and waited about 20 minutes around noon, but it was worth the wait. Banana French toast was delicious. Our table by the kitchen had the AC blasting in it and was freezing cold but I think the rest of the restaurant was fine.
Steven
Great food, good service. A little busy Sunday, but that's normal for places with good food.
Demi
ALL THE STARS. I went with three other people. It was my first time, as well as my mother's, but my aunt and cousin love the place. My cousin and I couldn't decide between two items. We knew that we wanted our own portion of shrimp and grits but wanted to taste this omelette with crabmeat & Brie.. etc. (I know just gluttonous) Well, yes the omelette was good but I was so taken with the shrimp & grits that I didn't touch it after one bite. They have THE best shrimp and grits that I've ever tasted. The portion is a generous size. I did take half of it home to eat the following day and it was just as good. My aunt ordered the banana pancake in addition to whatever else.. I cannot recall. We all nibbled on the banana pancake which was the size of pie. This pancake is so good that I ate it without syrup. Surrey's is definitely one of my top fave spots. You can indulge and also keep it on the light side. Your choice.
Ari Lazar
Life changing grits. Banana foster French toast is incredible.
Sachin P
I've only been in NOLA for a couple of weeks but I've been eating out nearly everyday and this is by far my favourite place for brunch. The shrimp and grits was a life changer, cannot recommend this spot enough but I've heard it gets busy on the weekends so maybe try it on a day off during the week! I will be back
Vijay N.
Best breakfast I have ever had in my life. So good, that we visited twice during our stay in NOLA. Waitstaff is very friendly, accommodating, and prompt. Virtually everything can be made vegetarian. Even the music is great. I would 100% recommend this to anyone visiting NOLA in the area. The avg wait time for breakfast is usually 20 min (after 10AM or so) on weekends, and for good reason. I'll be back!
Laurie Watkins
"If I was a person who gave reviews, I'd give this place a good one." - my wife
Philip Briggs
Atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed. In an old, expanded & remodeled house right amongst beautiful New Orleans Home. Art for sale decorates the walls. Very eclectic feel.
Food is always amazing. Been here only 3 times while travelling but I will continue to return every trip I make to New Orleans. Food service is pretty quick as well.
Servers have always been very happy and pleasant. Service is prompt. No complaints.
Not a lot of seating. Tables for groups of 4-5 or less. Not ideal for a large group. Not a large seating area either, if it's busy, there will be a short wait.
All around a quaint and tasty breakfast cafe.
Boss Chic
Came to try the bananas foster French toast but had to get it to go since I had just got off work. The staff at the bar were kind from me entering to leaving. I got the French toast and boudin sausage and they were both very delicious! Will definitely recommend and will be back to try some of the juices!
Trina T
I never liked grits, but their shrimp and grits is very delicious!! I also had the crab meat omelet, but I just felt the Brie cheese made it taste bitter with a weird aftertaste. Most people ordered the banana foster French toast, but I like strawberry more so I ordered their special French toast stuffed with strawberry cream and it was awesome!
Isaiah Agwu
It's painful to give this place 4 starts but gotta leave room from growth.
Let me start by saying the food is incredible. (And please refresh the meaning of incredible when reading this). The atmosphere is eclectic and artsy and the staff know the meaning of customer service which, when done well, is no easy job.
If you're visiting New Orleans, like I am, this is a perfect place to get some breakfast... It's worth the wait 😉
Nicole Lee Scott
I had the veggie omelet. SO GOOD. We live in the area and usually do Another Broken Egg (also really good)...this was definitely better. Fantastic, quick, and friendly customer service. We went at 930am on a Monday morning. We had no line / wait (usually it's out the door and down the street 😖) Big score since we were packing along a 6 month old baby 👍🏾👍🏾
Huy Tran
Food was very flavourful, had the Shrimp and Grits and the Corned Beef Hash. Between the two dishes, I preferred the Shrimp and Grits. Place was crowded but we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival.
Excellent Breakfast/Brunch place, but with limited seating.
Astrid Pérez
I went to NOLA in 2019 and still thinking about this place. Just want to come back because the experience there was SO AMAZING! the foster banana French toast was unreal! Love it so much. The place is cozy and welcoming. Best place in NOLA
Athena Huckaby
Loved this little place! Service was great, iced coffee was wonderful, and I really enjoyed the big portion of meaty corned beef hash (with big hunks of corned beef, unlike any hash I have had before) along with hearty chunks of potatoes. It came with eggs and of course I had a biscuit. Would go again!
Kristie Cramer
Homemade biscuits and bagels! I had the bagel plate with lox, it was fresh, light and delicious. Our iced tea and coffee were fantastic. It's a must visit!
ruthie irvin
Came here while on vacation this past weekend with friends and it blew us away. Do not get caught up on the exterior. The employees and the food was top notch. We loved the shrimp and grits, the banana French toast, & the crab meat omelet. Everything was soooooo AMAZING!!!
Daren Carter III
Small breakfast place with a nice NOLA feel. We had the crawfish omelette and the boudin biscuit.
Rick Kinney
A really neat little small cafe set amongst some of the historic houses on Magazine. The food was absolutely amazing. Boudin sausage with eggs cooked perfectly the way you want. Excellent bananas fosters french toast!
Be ready for a bit of a wait though as it is popular and small lol. Worth it though!
Sherri Davis
First time in New Orleans and this place was recommended. The food was mediocre, and the building needs a good rehab. Floor shifts downward and I almost fell on a occupied table. The bathroom was creepy and extremely hot! The staff was friendly but you could tell a bit overworked. If you want an inexpensive meal, and can overlook everything else than this place is for you. My boyfriend and I not so much.
anthony geiger
French toast is amazing. Our server Tom made us feel at home. Cozy lil restaurant with great food and fresh juices. Delicious
Chad Hart (Inertia Tours)
The costa rican breakfast and corned beef hash with boudin was fastastic. Amazing breakfast
Gary Tjipto
Lovely food with very generous portions. Fast service too.
Todd
fast and friendly wait staff even filled to capacity! prices good enough to go several times a week. i like the club sandwich, soup and salad meal deal. easy street parking. i felt my car was safe in front of artsy type yards. nice area for a walk after a hearty meal.
Victoria Evans
Atmosphere is like a wonderful old small house, high ceilings, with bright folk art everywhere. Fresh juices are FANTASTIC!! Food is great, service good. We did have to wait a long time for food, and there usually seems to be a line outside...but it will be worth it if you are not in a hurry! No alcohol, so get your mimosa fix another day.
Dungeon Matron
Great ambience! They had paintings on the walls for sale by local artists. I had the crab omelet and it was fantastic! Highly recommended for breakfast!
Stephanie Merrimon
So good!! Friendly staff..delicious food
Tres' Armand
This place had phenomenal service and delicious breakfast!!!!
Korrina Davis
My boyfriend and I went on a Monday. We had to wait a little bit we’re seated after 10 minutes, not bad! We ordered two meals and shared them. The French toast was AMAZING but the breakfast biscuit was really dry, we ordered some gravy to add a bit of moisture but it was still a pretty bland dish.
Ashley Tagliarino
The place is quiet and the staff are really nice and accommodating. I had gotten the tofu platter and I didn't expect it to be half as good as it was. It was astoundingly delicious. My only grievence was the price of my lemonade but otherwise it was affordable and even more so exceedingly delicious.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Great people.
Andrew Attanasio
The place is small and has a significant wait on weekends. We tried this cafe on a late Saturday morning and waited 45 minutes for a table to open up. The food was excellent and we didn't have to wait long for anything once we sat down but the tables were very small. If you fill up seats at a table, you will have to get creative with space. Otherwise it's a great place for breakfast.
Tony Talamantes
Tasty shrimp and grits. Service was super friendly. Waitress called all the women m'lady so that was fun too.
Isabel Eriksson
The food tasted incredible. The place had a very nice atmosphere and the service was great too.
Kimberly Smith
The best shrimp n grits I've had while in NOLA! Quaint no frills place with amazing Bananas Foster French toast. Highly recommended.
Kyle Krueger
Extremely long wait (an hour during weekday), prices are pretty high for quantity you get. Came in today and ordered the biscuits and gravy and the biscuits were soo dry! Had to order extra gravy just to help the texture a bit. Not worth the wait or the quite steep prices. Will not recommend or be back.
Robert Clark
I had the crab omlete, it was good, quick, and well put together, but the flavors didn't wow me the way I thought such a rich dish should. The portion size wasn't too big, which I believe is a good thing. But for the high price I just thought it should tickle the pallet a little more.
Sherri Lee
Great food! Great service! The crab omelet was amazing! Best biscuit I've ever had!!
Carol B
Yummy!! I had the pain perdu, and my husband had boudin and eggs and a biscuit. It was all really delicious! The ambiance was great, and the artwork on the walls was fabulous and affordable! :) Be aware that there's probably usually a wait.
Kay Bee
I think the Bananas Foster French Toast may have been one the most delicious things I've ever eaten. ❤️
Luis Braz-Ruivo
Anybody giving 4 stars or less to this establishment should go eat at IHOP!!
Excellent food, recommend shrimp and grits, very eclectic atmosphere and excellent service. Will come back soon. Busy place so come in early if you are in hurry. After 10am you may need to wait outside for available tables. Service is quick. Remember, after eating move on, there is other people waiting that want to experience this amazing place!
Armbarred
Boudin Biscuit Breakfast with grits, coffee, and in-house squeezed pineapple/orange/mango juice. Everything was perfect. Will definitely be back. Even at capacity, food arrived fast, staff was friendly and awesome. I am certain breakfast will happen here multiples times during my visit to New Orleans.
N Watts
Costa Rican breakfast was great! However questions about ingredients on specific items could not be answered by server or hostess. Knowledge of your staple items should be known. This information helps allergy customers like myself. Hostess also was short mannered. Your other location is much better. More lively. Excited to be there for its customers. 4 stars for delicious food however.
S.Nicole
This place is very quaint and requires you to wait outside while waiting to be seated. They provide self serve water to knock the heat but still.... the staff were super nice and attentive considering we were a large group with children. I ordered the crabmeat omelette that was pretty ok. My only complaint is that the sauce is what “makes” it. So once you get to pieces that aren’t covered with the sauce it’s very bland and taste like well... eggs. My andouille sausages were cold and not very tasty. The fresh squeezed orange juice is delicious and my only gripe is there weren’t any free refills. My advice, get the bananas foster French toast and a large orange juice. You can thank me later.
Lydia Moten
The menu was not a big selection. Presentation have the French toast is made with real French bread very soft delicious the food was nice and hot when served not a big selection post it for drink menu. Service was very friendly and quick.
Liza Kh.
One of the most pleasant breakfast I been to. The first day I had scrabbled eggs. They came with fresh onions and tomatoes topped with cilantro and green onion. WOW not sure what other spices were in the eggs but they were just perfect.
The second day, I tried the crab melt. It was a sandwich crab meat in some kind of orange sauce. Melted in my mouth. My reaction to the sandwich can only be compared to Homer Simpson drooling over a donut moment. I also got freshly juiced carrot juice. It was great.
My three friends were just as happy with their breakfast.
The wait is well worth the experience.
Gregory Pike
The food, fresh juice and service are awesome! We got the Cuban sandwich, bananas foster french toast and the carrot juice. They were all incredibly delicious and fresh. Will definitely go here again next time we're in new Orleans.
Tywanda Kimbrough
Small but the service was BIG. Food was excellent. My family and I had shrimp and grits, banana foster French toast, and crab omelets. Awesome!
James Edwards
Never et anywere else for breakfast! No matter how many times I visit NOLA i hav to go here. Simple and so good.
Tatiana Herbert
Delicious food and great staff!!
Yessica Johnson
The banana french toast was delectable. I also had the breakfast burrito with chorizo and that was also delicious! The place is small but the service was great and it had beautiful pictures on the walls.
Lindsey Bargelt
Came here based on rave biscuit reviews but if you’re looking for something fluffy these biscuits are not it. Very dense, looked like a roll. The grits are very creamy and delicious after adding salt and pepper though. Not many juice options for a “juice bar,” mostly make your own but gets quite expensive to add things beyond the standard juices like apple and orange.
Marina Rina
Great spot for breakfast. Worth the wait everytime. Great prices and variety. Went everyday for breakfast because I could get something so different each time. Highly recommend the bagel and lox, and the banana foster french toast. Huge portions for happy bellies :)
Francisco Rodriguez
Had a great breakfast here! Their breakfast burrito and their home fries are excellent! Cozy atmosphere too so you can eat your food in peace :)
Pheonix Law
I love this place for a couple of dishes like the Shrimp and Grits, Breakfast Burrito, and their Boudin Sausage. Yes, the wait will be long sometimes, but it is worth it to me. There are two locations. I only eat at the one closest to the CBD. Lately, not sure why, but they have been giving less and less on the shrimp and grits so I haven't been going as much. Friendly people and nice environment. Come on Surrey's the Shrimp and Grits are getting worst and the prices are getting ridiculously high. You are really starting to lose me as a customer.
Mariam Eltoweissy
This is a charming little cafe (emphasis on little, it's like sitting in an indoor alley) but the food is well worth the small space. The French toast and shrimp and grits were probably the best I've had. We also had the fresh squeezed orange juice (fine but nothing to write some about) and the chilli omlette. The artwork on the wall (all for sale) by local artists is a wonderful touch. We especially liked the array of clay NOLA-esque house fronts so much we had to take one home with us.
Chris Boelkes
Fabulous place for breakfast. A quite varied and unique menu. The food was extraordinary and the service beyond friendly. We arrived 10 minutes after they opened for the day and we got a seat right away, though it was already about half full. When we left an hour later there was a line waiting to be seated. It would have been well worth the wait.
Jeff Wofford
Banana Foster French toast is "change your life" good. Staff is great and the cafe itself is really nice. Don't miss this place!
Salik Tauqir
Probably one of the best breakfast places around. We ordered shrimp and grits, crab omelette and banana rug.. I meant Banana pancake! That’s one massive pancake! This is gem of a place. A must try!
Deborah Schwartz
Yummy breakfast. Do not come here if you are dieting!
Jake's Aviation
Amazing breakfast place!
Food is delicious and portions are perfect. One thing I loved was the freshly squeezed apple juice!
Rebecca Hoffman
This place is the bomb! My boyfriend and I ordered the banana fosters french toast and the crab omlette then swapped plates! It was so good it was sinful. If we ever make it back to NOLA this is a place to go! My bf also had the orange/mango/pineapple juice which was SO delicious and fresh! Check it out!
Lesley Block
Super friendly staff, incredibly delicious food, great location. I've been dreaming of this place since I was last there 10 years ago. It's the absolute best
Jackie Robinson
Love how fresh everything is and the vegan/vegetarian options.
Andrew Eubanks
Love this cafe! Keep coming back every time I'm in town even though there are plenty of other restaurants I want to try. Surrey's has the best breakfast. The biscuits are great and the Shrimp-n-Grits is awesome!
John Pena
Place is fiya!! There's usually a wait but I can't see why. Best French Toast I've ever tasted and Im a hard judge. Service was great, friendly, and helpful. The eggs are amazing, organic too. Definitely recommend.
LaToya Roux
Love this spot and the neighborhood it's in. The food is really good. It's just a quaint little cafe, so wait times can be long. The shrimp and grits were legit, and I'm picky about that dish and grits in general.
Kimberly Peng
The crawfish omelet was a special and it was special indeed. It was stuffed with brie and avocado, topped with a creamy crawfish sauce that was divine!
J Coldwell
Delicious food. I have been here twice. I had the Shrimp and Grits and French Toast. Both were so tasty!
Blake Wilson
The juice I got was solid. I chose the combination. Carrot and Orange. The servers were nice. Very attentive even with closing time approaching. I really wanted more Juice Bar so I was fooled. That's cool. Not their fault. If I had it to do again I would go to the other location, much closer to one of Lee Harvey Oswald's former homes, 4905 Magazine Street.
Jason Manwaring
Bananas foster French toast and biscuits were awesome! A bit pricey compared to my hometown, but actually pretty good for New Orleans.
Patrick Isbell
Had a bit of a wait to be seated but nothing unreasonable. Once seated waited close to 20min for order to be taking meanwhile ppl seated after us orders were being taken. Perhaps wait times would be shorter if service were more prompt. Food was delicious and good value, even if I feel 6.50 for a glass of orange juice is a bit to much.
Michael Cohn
Low key breakfast and lunch place with great menu, great folks, and great variety. My breakfast reconnections are the corned beef hash, migas, banana Foster stuffed French toast, and the lox & bagels. Note that they make the lox and bagels in house! Also very reasonably priced. Don't forget to try the home made juices.
Susan Williams
Banana foster French toast was pretty tasty!
Mike Rodriguez
I ordered- the bread pudding with egg over easy, grits and fresh squeezed Oj.
The negative - The eggs were over medium.
The bread pudding was not warm.
Positive - the flavor of the bread pudding was amazing. I recommend it.
I do not like grits so when I see it on a menu I order them.- with that said, I recommend the grits here..
I would definitely come back!
Zac Fabian
It seems like we went on a bad day. I liked my juice and coffee, but the two breakfast plates, the burrito and breakfast sandwich, we ordered were not very good. The potatoes were over cooked and not eatable. I see all the good reviews so maybe just an off moment, but definitely not even close to being impressed for how much it cost.
Rachel Lauren
If you haven't had brunch here you're missing out.
Thomas West
I walked 31 minutes one way from Bourbon St. And it was worth every minute. The shrimp and grits were amazing. I had a table as soon as I walked in. The atmosphere is hippie hipster with lots of color and artwork everywhere. If youre visiting this is a must place to eat.
James Jackson
A little rough around the edges but that's the way the owners like it I gather. Good and nicely cooked food available at all times with prices that aren't insane. I would say avoid the weekends, at least if you're looking for a nice calm brunch, you can't get in there's too few seats and too many people.
Stacie Hupp
Food was adequate although it was different than what was listed on the menu when it came. Tables were very very close together. Service was a bit slow and confusing. We had three different servers and still had to ask to have our coffee refilled. It was fine but with so many options i think we'll skip coming back
DJ
As a first timer in NOLA this was my first meal! It sure was a wonderful way to break the ice. There homemade juice is superb. The shrimp and grits was so good I think I broke out in song. Also had biscuit with sausage gravy....this was amazing introduction to NOLA cuisine
Susie Leggett
Ordered Shrimp & Grits and an Omelette, both were delicious and nicely seasoned! One of our best restaurant experiences during our stay in New Orleans. The quiet location adds to it's charm and there is a nice display of local art throughout the restaurant.
Danielle David
Very cute breakfast spot. Super strong coffee. Homemade biscuits. Very good service. Excellent price point and large portions. Loved the colors and decor.
Joel Compton
Love coming here for brunch when I visit New Orleans. Their banana fosters stuff French toast is the best French toast I've had. Lots of other wonderful food choices. I always get one of their freshed squeezed juices too.
Shawneese Henderson
Every time I visit New Orleans, I always come here for the shrimp and grits - they are the best I’ve ever had in my life! The place is super small so prepare yourself to wait 30 minutes or more. Every time I’ve came, I waited at least an hour but it’s worth it!!!
Jenna E
This place came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint! Had the Costa Rican breakfast with limeade and absolutely loved it ! The service was fantastic - so friendly and helpful. Craig our waiter was awesome. Would definitely recommend and will be back next time we’re in NOLA :) thanks guys !
alice chung
Worth the wait and even better if you're alone because wait time would be much less than if you have two people with you.
Customer service could be A LOT better. Their staff seems a bit confused at times. I wasn't given attention to until I asked about inputting my order about 10 mins after looking at everyone waiting to be noticed.
Get the shrimp and grits. Everything you had hoped for and more. Juices are not freshly juiced in front of you but already in their containers in the fridge. I like the fresh aspect so you may skip their juices if you also like it freshly juiced in front of you.
Farihah Haque
Great french toast, bagels, fresh juices, shrimp bisque. Basically everything is awesome. I love going for brunch time but sometimes they can get a bit busy at this hour, especially on weekends.
Robert Rossi
Worth the wait. Great home cooking in N.O. It wS recommended and I'm doing the same, don't past on this restaurant.
Janae Varney
Still dreaming of those biscuits. I had the sausage gravy and biscuits. It was excellent. The biscuits we're heavenly. One of the greatest things I have ever eaten. I know what you're thinking, it's just a biscuit, but I cannot explain it's perfection. Go get a biscuit and try some fresh juice too!

Surrey's is always a delicious and enjoyable time. Make sure to be prepared for a wait if you go during typical brunch hours, but it's definitely well worth it! I wish I could recommend what to try, but you honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu

We had the banana foster french toast and the shrimp and grits. Let me say, we wanted to lick the bowl clean! Yup, it was that good. We will definitely be back and I will take an order to go so I can lick the bowl in the privacy of my home 😁 …

The service was good, be prepared to sit comfortable close to other. If your group is larger than six prepare to not all sit together. They are very accommodating. The artist of painting's who worked there talked about personal stories behind her work. A must visit.

Love the food and the vibes. Will revisit when I visit again.

Fantastic food. Great local joint to grab a bite to eat. We stopped for lunch and were so impressed we went back for breakfast the next day. Yum. Corned beef hash to die for. Huge chunks of real deal meat. Can't wait for our next trip to NOLA

Surrey's is a funky neighborhood cafe in the lower garden district of New Orleans. The staff is friendly and keep your coffee filled. The food is wonderful though, fair warning, the banana pancake is large enough to easily feed four people.

Ordered the Costa Rican. Flavors were balanced. Add ham and black beans for a better taste. If you like it spicy use the sauces at the table. Coffee was hot and not bitter like other shops around. Servers were quick and friendly.

This amazing restaurant just happened to be a few blocks from my friend's house that was putting me up in NOLA. It's located on the ever busy Magazine Street, and shaded parking was easy to find. Also, the Yelp review implied there would be a wait, but I walked in and was immediately seated on a beautifully lazy Sunday afternoon. The waitress was gorgeous and friendly, helping me pick the Banana & Peanut Butter Pancakes as opposed to their also popular French Toast. The clientele was laid back, hip without pretension. I'd eat here again without hesitation.

Enjoyed sitting outside at the Uptown location. Good people watching, nice service. The juice WAS fresh and delicious! The egg dishes we had were good but nothing to write home about. And the pancake was gigantic - literally takes up the whole plate so you might want to split one!

The most amazing shrimp & grits i’ve ever had!! They were absolutely full of flavor, fresh shrimp (no bag shrimp). I definitely will be back when I visit New Orleans again!

Surreys is amazing. Just plain awesome. Small setting but friendly. The food on the other hand is deceptively amazing and a very well executed dining experience from bite to bite. Also there is nothing like good fresh juice.

Excellent! The service was very fast, very accurate and genuinely friendly. The food was not only delicious, fresh and high quality, but it was creative. Each dish had it's own special pizazz. There is a fresh juice bar, and it has a very quaint atmosphere...an old house with the front porch turned into a restaurant. We were in town for a trade show, luckily happened upon this little place and ate here every day. We had the hogs head benedict, the corned beef hash and the huevos rancheros deluxe for breakfast, and the lunch combo with the avocado pesto sandwich and artichoke and spinach soup. Every dish was absolutely amazing. The salads were made from fresh baby greens and the lime cilantro dressing was tangy and light. I am a very picky eater and I was 100% impressed! I can't wait to go back to New Orleans to visit this restaurant. Thank you Surreys!

This place is amazing. I rediscovered a hot sauce that I really liked a lot when I went to Costa Rica here. The breakfast was really tasty and the special juice of the day was really good. I wish this place was in Portland, OR.

Surrey's is always a good choice for brunch. I personally love their shrimp and grits, but I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on their menu. My only desire is that I wish they had brunch cocktails!

My wife and I went for breakfast on a whim. I really didn't know to expect. There was a wait as expected for Essence weekend. They were doing a celebrity guestlist which was very cool. I drew a blank so the lady chose Wolverine because of the shirt I was wearing. Everything was very delicious. We will be coming back on our next visit to NOLA.

Came in for breakfast and everything we tried was delicious. The juice (try grapefruit, apple, ginger mix👍🏾) lemon blueberry french toast, shrimp and grits, and crawfish omelet. If we had more room we would have ordered more! …

Tried going here several times and the wait was always just a little bit long for me. This last time I said screw it. I'm trying this place. I finally understand why the lines are long. Great place with friendly staff. Food was very well priced and tasted very good too. If you're visiting the South and want a good southern breakfast I recommend this place.
