Reviews of Royal House
Erick Conde
Great restaurant to dine in and taste the local cuisine of NOLA. During the visit, we had a very attentive server and with great recommendations. We ended up deciding for some chard grilled oysters, and the fish and chips sandwich which I both recommend. The quality and ambience is very suited for resting at the local pace and the quality of the food is very well achieved. I would it here without regrets. Enjoy!

Came here with a group of 10 and actually was surprised at how quickly we got seated because it was so close to the parades that day!
Good:
I really liked the sampler dish that came with 4 different cups of dishes - my favorite was probably the Jambalaya out of them.
I really liked the broiled oysters since they had a really good cheesy savory flavor. The raw oysters weren't too bad either.
I also liked the blue crab claws since they were really unique for a dish.
Bad:
The fried alligator basically tasted like popcorn chicken so it wasn't too special. The hush puppies were also really small so I think they weren't a good value in the end.
There were probably too many beans too in the sampler so it was all pretty similar and a lot of rice.
Overall I think this place delivered on making us super full and also giving a good authentic New Orleans experience.

WRITE HOME ABOUT THIS ONE!!! This place is so good. It’s busy so beware you may have to wait, however, while waiting remember - IT’S WORTH THE WAIT. Oysters were huge - dirty outside shells but that’s part of the allure. The blackened redfish was insanely good. Get it with the lump crab on top - not a lot but it adds flavor. I had it without the jambalaya - I know - but the green beans were incredible. No idea the seasoning but I’ve been talking about them for two days. . . And I don’t like green beans! Seriously, this is a must try. Wait staff and door staff were great - fun to hang with while you’re waiting. Sat on the balcony and it moved a lot - even leaned “naturally” but it was a nice experience.

The food was really great. I’m not an oyster lover but I liked it. The bread pudding was amazing as well. The problem was the service. I needed to ask for the silverware each time, when I got food. Might because of the New Year’s Eve? Everything was pretty slow. That’s why I ran out of my patience and only ordered a few food.

Outstanding! We were walking around site seeing and popped in for lunch. The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. Voodoo juice, old fashioned, sampler and chargrilled oysters. So good!
Yannick Pevenage
The oysters and poo boy were great. My company had the steak and they thought it was delicious as well. Nice upstairs place with a cool balcony. Downstairs also very well designed and a good bar area.
piscesboy76
About a 40 minute wait before service. Dining experience in the front, nice spot for people-watching. Dinner was fairly good, just wish our young waitress was a bit more attentive. She didn't inquire on how our meal was nor were we offered refills on our beverages.
Hannah McGrew
The food was SO good. Not going to lie, that we have struggled finding a great New Orleans place to eat, but this place did amazing. The food was hot and fresh. The staff was very friendly, and place was clean. We got the Lobster ravioli, the cajun sampler, and jambalaya. I would come back here in a heart beat!
Ahmed Ochoa
Pros: We were impressed by the food here! Best tasting food we had while in New Orleans. We would definitely return if I’m ever in the New Orleans area and will recommend it to my friends and family.
Cons: Food took forever to come out, we waited about 25-30 mins for food items to come out on a Monday night, it wasn’t packed or super busy. Also, the bathrooms downstairs are tiny (no big deal).
*I really wanted to rate this restaurant a 5 star but the wait times were a downer.
Our server, was super friendly and very nice - I wish I remembered her name (she was the young lady with braces working upstairs on the evening of 5/30) the rest of the staff wasn’t very friendly and had poor customer service skills.
Make sure to get the charbroiled oysters and the Cajun Bloody Mary!
Fred Lozano
I absolutely enjoyed this place. Food was delicious, fairly priced, and served in a timely manner. View was amazing and the staff was some of the friendliest around. Portions were exactly what I was looking for. For a first timer in New Orleans, I highly recommend.
Doris Whatley
A friend suggested we eat here and it did not disappoint! Though there was a line to get in, there was entertainment across the street while we waited. The restaurant has a nice vibe and our view from the upstairs balcony was wonderful. Our waitress was attentive and the food was DELICIOUS!
Katelyn Finney
Excellent! The food, service and experience was exceptional. Very impressed. We sat at the bar. Watching them shuck the oysters next to us was so fun. We got the mixed plate and fresh oysters. The red beans and rice were my fiancés favorite out of the 5 other places we have had them! The oyster shooters were delicious as well. Highly recommend.

First, Desha was amazing! She is top-notch at her job. She made us feel welcome and like we were old friends
We had brunch- I had the quarter toast and it was crunchy and so damn good!! My husband had the lobster ravioli and he was in awe. The food, service, and atmosphere was the best.
Lori Broughton
AMAZING!! This was hands down our favorite spot for dinner!! #1: Love their staff here, best restaurant staff in the French Quarter!! #2: Food is so good you won't be able to stop talking about it!! #3: Here's what you must try... fried eggplant over alfredo marinara to start because yes they make an unpopular veggie, so dang desirable!! Ribeye with fried crawfish on top & garlic fries, so good there is zero need for any sauce of any kind!! Blue crab claws with garlic French bread in the sauce that makes you forget your manners, I want that sauce on EVERYTHING!! Seriously y'all I was straight up licking it off my fingers like I hadn't tasted food in a year, I don't know what's in it but DAMN YES YOU NEED IT!! Lastly you better end the meal with their bread pudding stuffed with sweet raisins & peaches, topped with caramel & cream sauce, best bread pudding in NOLA!!
Daniel Frommelt
The trick to New Orleans is figuring out which restaurants do not require a reservation. This is one of the great ones! Great food and a fun environment.
As always, try the red fish blackened, it's always awesome! Yeah atmosphere is fun and the food is great, so there's no reason to hesitate
We even had the benefit of an impromptu parade coming by the building while we caught beads and laughed and enjoyed our drinks! Awesome times and great memories.
Chriss Henderson
Our server Audrey was absolutely amazing!!! The food was wonderful, best we had in NOLA! The violinist outside was amazing! We loved everything!!
Rich Watkins
Small seafood and Louisiana fare restaurant. We liked it a lot. Prices are good, service is awesome and we really enjoyed the food. A dozen oysters will go fast! It is busy and seems to always be full. Like everything in the French Quarter you should expect a lot of noise… street music, traffic and people talking (shouting!). We had fun here.
Savannah Cain
Never let's us down! Always a phenomenal experience no matter the season we visit or time of day we choose to go. We were so full from our apps we actually only were able to sample our entrée, but packed it up to go. Will definitely be back. Until next time!
Madhuri Srinivasan
Great food, great quality of service and the patio overlooking streets with live music is absolutely great. Give their charbroiled oysters and bloody Mary a try. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu.
Nette Rab
Stopped by for breakfast. We tried stopping by the night before but they were closing early.
Service was ok and the restaurant wasn't busy.
Food:
Chicken & Andouille Gumbo
I ordered just a cup. It was flavorful but not the best that I've had during my visit.
Overall, I'd return again.
Amanda Cayce
My husband and I went here on our last night in NO. We sat on the gallery and listened to an amazing blues band playing on the sidewalk for hours. Service was relaxed (slow for Michigan) but seems to be the pace here. My husband had alligator bites which was tough but no expectations since we have never had it before. The crab claw appetizer was delicious! My husband had steak for dinner and it was cooked well, I had the chargrilled oysters (never had them before) and it was delicious! The atmosphere really made the meal!
Brett Gottfried
Very pleasantly surprised with our visit. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat while we were shopping. So we ate light, french onion soup, oysters, and bread pudding shared by 4. The French Onion soup was some of the best I have had, salty with an excellent beef broth and stringy cheese, not gummy. The oysters were also amazing, very garlicky and buttery. The bread puddy was delicious, moist all the way through.
Tami Roman
Nice establishment. Restaurant was clean, servers were excellent. My servers name was LaLa and she was very attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and very pleasant. I ordered the chargrilled oysters & blu crab fingers, both were tasty. My husband had the grilled red fish and he said it was excellent. It’s a place you should give a try for a low key meal out of the heavy traffic areas.
Note: Servers did not wear masks, if that bothers you
Rick Oxford
Lovely little restaurant with NOLA charm. Gator appetizers was a bit chewy, but the remoulade was excellent! We got the gumbo, jambalaya and red beans and rice. All delicious.
Have one of their hurricanes. Delish!
Highly recommended if you visit.
Brad Bohn
Excellent and fast service. Not crowded when other eateries had lines out the door. Everything was hot and tasty. Highly recommend the fried eggplant even if you're not vegetarian.
Robin Depeder
Upstairs bar had great service, open seating and got us off the street level (buzz) without having to sit at a table. Table seating is available inside and on the balcony--which was lovely too. The gumbo was delish and the charbroiled oysters, decadent. Nice corner location.
Gloria K
We were a party of two who came for lunch on a Sunday around 11:30 and were seated immediately. We got the jambalaya and gumbo. Both were good. The gumbo could have been hotter, I felt compelled to shovel it down faster than I wanted to because it was cooling quick in the wide plate.
Ieshia Leverette
Absolutely phenomenal experience. Everything was absolutely delicious and the drinks were strong. We had the shrimp Po boy, raw oysters and the sampler. My absolute favorite was the oyster rockerfella! Let me tell you!!! I could have ate 3 more. My server Raeshante was so sweet and had excellent service. She explained what we were eating and how to eat it to make the most of each dish! All of her recommendations were a hit ! Will definitely be back!
Crystal Lee
Hubby and I both had the crawfish and crab ravioli. May be our favorite meal of this trip. It was phenomenal. Place was clean. Staff was friendly. Mixed drink, the Royal Cup, was delicious. Will definitely recommend and go back ourselves.
the builder
Great food, staff was very cordial. Only complaint was how dirty the oyster shells were. They were literally still covered in mud..lol. like, lots of mud all over the exterior of the shells which basically got into the oyster itself when they shucked them. Other than that, was good.
Amanda Foster
This place was AMAZING! We were greeted, seated, and immediately taken care of. We sat outside upstairs on the patio and had a great view. Char grilled oysters are a MUST!!! French onion was also a hit! Highly recommend.
Damon Blakemore Jr
The blue crab claws are amazing. We’ve been here 3 times and twice in one 3 day period just to go back and get them!! The rest of the food was good as well. But the blue crab claws are insane!
Jennifer McGee
We visited the restaurant this weekend. The restaurant was busy do to Final Four games being played. However, being in the French Quarter you would think they would be used to high volume. The good took over an hour to arrive and our order was simple. We ordered an appetizer,, the eggplant and the Cajun sampler. The sampler items should have already been prepared and just plated to be served. The gumbo was decent but had very little meat. The crawfish etouffee was ok but nothing spectacular. The jambalaya was awful. It looked and tasted like white rice. I did complain and it was replaced with something that resembled jambalaya but still want great. Our server was wonderful and very thoughtful. Overall I might try again when I'm town but I wouldn't wait through crowds for it again.
Gina Bucchiano
The restaurant had good food. Our server was very professional. Only thing that was horrible was a girl singing on the street with a drunk man yelling at her. No fault of the restaurant. I would definitely come back again.
Greg V
Tried numerous “famous” spots in New Orleans on our trip and this place was our favorite. Amazing chicken gumbo just such good flavor. The crab claws were delicious (especially the sauce it came in) and the jambalaya is so good. Eating on the balcony was a treat - go here you won’t be disappointed
Bernardo Engelke
Good food. I enjoy their oysters. We had lunch in the balcony and it was a very good experience. I would return to this restaurant.
Arlie Liverman
Me and my Lady were looking for some charbroiled oysters to try for the first time, which is a popular dish in NOLA. We happened to stumble upon this wonderful little gem while walking through the French Quarter. My Lady does not like oysters at all. We decided to go in and try the oysters anyway. We were greeted by a very cute, petite, and polite waitress named Alexis. Just full of energy and a huge smile! She took us out to the balcony for a private table overlooking the streets below. Very beautiful and quaint! Alexis happily takes our order giving suggestions. Even though neither one of us particularly likes oysters, we should get a dozen instead of a half dozen. She says "Reason being, once you try them, six will not be enough!" So we took her advice and she went about her way preparing our order.
Now, I have had oysters prepared many ways and am not fond of many of them other then fried or cooked on a grill still in there shell. I don't like slimy or gummy under cooked ones. What she brought back to our table was amazing. Amazing to all our senses! They looked delectable! They smelled mouthwatering! But the texture and the taste, absolutely wonderful! Served on the halfshell, covered in garlic butter sauce and topped with real melted parmesan cheese, we ate every single one!! The garlic bread they served with it was a perfect pairing. Crunchy, yet soft and chewy. We ordered extra.
Needless to say, we loved the whole experience! So much so, we went back a SECOND TIME for our last meal in New Orleans before heading home. This time we ordered a dozen of the charbroiled oysters(Of course!), and there chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. The gumbo was delicious as well. Good texture and taste. Not to spicy. The bowl was a perfect portion for two to share. What made the second visit memorable was the Bloody Mary! It was almost a meal in itself. It was topped with two long toothpicks, covered in giant olives, celery, vidalia onions, and these snap beans that had a wonderful pickled flavor. Placed atop a tall glass filled to the brim with vodka, tomato juice, and Zing Zang. Garnished off with a slice of lemon and lime.
If you're ever in New orleans, we both highly suggest stopping in and seeing for yourself. Ask for Alexis.😉👍👌

Amazing food my go to place when I’m in New Orleans. Crab claws is delicious and don’t get me started on the oysters. 5⭐️
Nicole M
I had dinner tonight at Royal house tonight and everything was great.
I had to go to dinner by myself since my husband was busy with the conference and Colleen made this experience outstanding.
The food was so great but her hospitality and service was top notch that I felt so good about myself eating out alone.
Thank you for a memorable night in New Orleans.
MikeBlast!
THE BEST GRILLED OYSTERS IN NEW ORLEANS. The! Best!! The ONLY restaurant where the chef respects the oyster and grills with clean heat and fresh clarified butter. No char. Great size. Wonderful taste. Perfect balance of butter and garlic. Excellent presentation. Awesome taste. Perfect for 1st time oyster eaters. Royal House is the Bourbon St. Oyster Champion!!
Ashley
The employees seem a little out of sorts here, but maybe they were having a bad day. It happens. The food was good, but tasted similar to some of places I have eaten at that serve the same dishes.
Loreen & Lane LLC
The etoufee was amazing and so were the Bloody Mary and Voodoo Juice drinks. Lean gel our server was very attentive and made great suggestions. The atmosphere was quieter than bourbon street.
Chris Luebke
Definitely worth a stop. Skipped some longer lines on a Sunday night. This was a good stop. Thanks Joe (server). We had a number of items and all were excellent. Drinks were great too. Abita Amber tastes good on tap.
Ben Conley
One of my favorite place in New Orleans. I had a slightly dirty martini and oysters and it was amazing highly recommend. It is a must if you come to visit the crescent city. The oysters are shucked right in front of you. Staff is amazing.
Melissa Masters
I wasn't a fan of their take on shrimp and grits. My friend's Caesar salad looked good. Our waiter was great. The atmosphere was cool. I wish I had ordered something else.
maz
Wonderful oysters! Niorobe did good service, we saw him putting our orders in immediately and went to the kitchen when he noticed it is taking longer than it should. Responsible barbacks always make a restaurant servicing well 👍
Nanda Sundri
Great food! Have to come back to try other items on the menu.
Our waiter… very tall guy, was very attentive and patiently explained the dishes on the menu.
Terry Anderson
One of the most solid restaurants in New Orleans. Excellent Gumbo and Oysters! I definitely recommend coming down to Royal Street and enjoying the fine fare.
Simon Zio
We visited the restaurant for a quick cocktail before going somewhere else for dinner. We walked by the place and discovered the nice balcony on the first floor. The waiters were very friendly and show us how to access the balcony. We had a nice view across royal street and we’re enjoying our cocktails. I would definitely recommend it for the location and the balcony, we have not tried the food.
Jen Kintzle
Always my first stop on a visit to New Orleans! The hurricanes are the best in the city (real fruit juice flavors, not the syrupy sweetness like others who shall not be named). Raw oysters are always incredible and everything else I've tried on the menu is delish!
Christine Ryder
Location is 5-star-one block off bourbon on a quieter, less tacky rue. Decor/atmosphere is 4.5-star. Beautiful fixtures, art, bar, building. Upstairs is lively. Balcony is charming.
This place serves a surprising amount of fried food for an "oyster bar." I saw beige on beige on beige plates leaving the kitchen. Ick!
We ordered a spinach salad with blackened scallops. The spinach was brilliant. Salad included crisp, tart apples & cranberries, and a decent balsamic vinegrette. The scallops were well-cooked, but not very "blackened."
The blue crab claw appetizer was the best thing on the menu. Absolutely. It should be a main course as a pasta dish.
The crab and shrimp raviolis were a hit with our kids but not quite as big as we had hoped to split by two. Frankly, for a dish that expensive, I would expect a finer sauce/presentation.
We ordered oysters. We love oysters. These were beasts. If you want a big oyster, this is your place. An oyster bar should have a variety of sauces to serve. A briney vinegarette with shallots and fresh parsley would have been welcomed. A house-made hot sauce would have been fabulous.
As others have said, the service is a little hard to tolerate. A waitress jumped behind the bar to serve us a standing in line drink. The bartender made a fuss and didn't serve the folks behind me. The hostess was excellent. The bartender upstairs was sweet. Our server was ok, just not full of hustle, interest, attention. A little motivation and communication would go a long way!
Joseph Feliciano
When I am in town, I always make it a point to stop by here. I have had at least 80% of the items in the menu. Everything is fantastic. I have taken friends here and they loved it. It's in a great location, not far from Bourbon St. Great bartenders to boot. Make sure to make a stop here. Start off with the Taste Of New Orleans.
Samantha Hussey
Visited here in May 2021. We had never had oysters before so we ordered the chargrilled oysters. We learned we don't even like oysters cooked lol I got the crawfish ravioli and it was super good. Our complaint was after we were seated, which did take long, the service took forever. Then we had to ask for silverware since we were given none. The on plus side was the seating in the balcony. It was a nice view of Royal St

I am giving this place a 4 because a couple of reason. We had been to Felix's Oyster house a couple of nights before, and Those Oyster were so Big, and so delicious, and I thought the Royal House, being a little more upscaled, would have quality, big Oysters, Nope not the case here. The place is nice, the selection of beer is not too great, but the soups we had were Great. I would say eatting the French Onion, and the Seafood Gumbo, made me change my mind about giving a 3 star rating, but we also had the Oysters Rockefeller, and that was a disappointment. I have had many from New York, and they were delicious, grilled perfectly. The ones here were overcooked, and so the flavor was terrible. I give a 4 star because I don't like to down restaurants, unless they are super horrible, and Royal House is not, and I might have been there on a off day, so I would definitely give them another try. The bar tender also made up for it, she was super nice, and super helpful, even though the restaurant was slammed. Check them out, let me know how they are, and as always, my 2 cents.
Sana Zafar
Cute spot with pretty views of the street. The crawfish etouffee was delicious. The oysters were fresh but weren’t shucked properly because I got shells in most of them. The blackened red fish was grilled well but lacked flavor.
angela nickel
The servers were terrible. We walk in stand in there for 5-10 min a host was in the door soon after we walk in. A couple walk in this person ask them how many and sit them. When we ask why we still waiting and no one has ask anything she was like “oh I didn’t see you”. (A table for 3 was open this hole time) another waitress sit us we wait until another waitress took orders. Another waitress brought our food (so 4 different waitress). My drink was almost empty before they bring the food no one ask us once if everything was ok or if we need anything (normal protocol) we finished eating and like 10 min past when the lady that took our order took plates away and 5 min before she bring the bill.
The place was super small but it accommodate the customers We were just super close to another group and also we had a terrible table it wiggle (should get fix or replace)
The food was super good I got the taste of New Orleans (small portions should be a little more). The jambalaya rice in another dish look good but no filling (medium size)
I give 3 starts cause service should 0-1 but food was a 4
Gina Sanchez
Amazing atmosphere!!! Wait was about 20 minutes on a Friday night so not bad. We were sat upstairs which was lovely. Drawback was climbing a steep and long staircase.
Food was delicious!! Appetizer: caprese tower with shrimp!!! Wow!!! Flavors were spot on. Mozzarella cheese was fresh, tomatoes were perfectly crisp and the balsamic vinegar drizzle was fantastic. The additional shrimp was our waiter's recommendation. Thank goodness....they were perfect. Chicken and sausage gumbo was a true NOLA recipe. Flavors were fantastic. Shrimp platter had perfect shrimp, amazing Red beans and rice. Final dish was shrimp creole!! Wow!! We were so pleased. Full of amazing flavors. We will be back!
Luan Nguyen Minh (Luke)
Kickass balcony view and mediocre food & drinks. I had the basic oysters and the highly recommended blackened chicken jambalaya and they were only okay. The jambalaya was rather bland and the fresh oysters were not cleaned properly and still sandy, while the grilled oysters were over seasoned.
Mia Peak
Baby the oysters were from heaven. Butter, parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, black pepper. The vibe is awesome. They can get all my money. Yes, please try the restaurant. A+ customer service.
Basel T
Good , efficient restaurant. Mid of french quarter. Has all the specialties : PoBoy , oysters , burgers , pasta pascatore . Blackened chicken . Nice atmosphere and service .
Richard Hunter
This is a must-not-miss for foodies... specifically the appetizer of Blue Crab Claw in a creole butter sauce and the Crawfish Ettoufee. The 5 stars are specifically for those two dishes!
Christine Boyd
Awesome dining experience. Food and drinks were great! Staff was very friendly.
Susana Gonzalez
Delicious oysters! We even found a pearl in one! Very exciting experience and a story we will be telling our grandchildren.
Dan Anthony
We stopped here on Halloween night, with a group of 16 which were seated in two different tables next to each other. Our server did a wonderful job in accommodating all our requests and was very communicative. Our drinks were filled timely and our appetizers didn't take long to hit our tables. I ordered the fried shrimp meal. It was very tasty and very plentiful. Our waitress also divided our tickets which helped tremendously. The restaurant is also in a good, central location not far from Bourbon street.
Alexis Gant
Food was hot and fresh. My cocktail was very tasty but not strong. The food was pretty bland and not much taste. Stars are mostly for service
Logan Sanelli
Amazing. Crab leg boil perfectly seasoned. Crab claw-the sauce fantastic. Eggplant was delish as well. Nice atmosphere, friendly service. Good food quality much better than other seafood I’ve had at “famous” places this week. Skip the hype and come right here!
Jonathan Chan
Came here less than a week after Ida. They had just reopened and did a wonderful job under the circumstances.
The staff was from sister restaurants in areas less affected. Also some seafood items were not available because of contamination from the storm.
With all that said what a dining experience!
The alligator bites were a hit with my group and were something special. The caprese and eggplant appetizers were delicious.
The drinks were spot on as well. You can see the vodka infusion for the bloody Mary's at the bar along with the local draft beer.
Everyone enjoy their food. The ribeye was so tender it came with a butter knife. The po boy oyster was lightly fried and the breading was seasoned well. My head bobbed up and down and this is perfectly how it should taste.
The New Orleans sampler was a highlight. A good portion of 4 different things. One of favorite taste came from this dish.
Even the burger is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Get up and get down to the French Quarter and get a true taste of New Orleans hospitality and cooking at the highest level.
Can't wait to come back!
Tania Larko
Oysters Rockefeller. First time ever having oysters and this was the place we were referred to for the best and freshest oysters in the French Quarter. We were not disappointed.
Michael Crawford
This was my first time trying Oysters and goodness gracious they were amazing. The burger was cooked perfectly and shrimp and grits were sooooo good. Tomato based!
Peggy Scherer
One of my best food experience in NOLA especially thanks to the small terrasse where we could enjoy a view of the street and great air ! We had some nice cocktails and oysters as well as some alligator food, I would have come every day of my stay if I had could.
Bill Esposito
Our favorite place for great chargrilled oysters.
Just make sure they have a nice "golden brown char" to them for some of the best you can get in New Orleans.
Vivian Gordon
Great location, great food, amazing staff. The oysters were very fresh and the crawfish ravioli was perfect. Would definitely go to eat again.
aly alvarez garcia
Location is perfect, the decor and atmosphere are SOOO nola! Been here a few times, can always count on the food being good. The gentleman working the front door who took our names was super kind and had the patience of a God managing all the people wanting a table. It was amazing watching him multitask!
Only downside to this place is you wait forever to order, forever to get your drinks, forever to get your food. Do not come starving, you will get HANGRY lol that being said I plan on returning and recommend to others.
Wenyu Lian
Very nice restraint. Delicious see foods. Love it’s oyster and gate meat. It is not crowded during the offseason.
VJ
Oysters 🦪 so good.
Restaurant under staffed and slow service but worth waiting 😃
Laura Carr
Fantastic! The food was fantastic, the service was friendly and fast. Definitely recommend and will visit again when in town.
Selene Santiago
Pretty sure our waiter was high but he was dope. Everything we ordered was a delight. The taste of NOLA--holy cow that jambalaya! The mint juleps were not sweet (I don't like super sweet drinks) and had a good amount of booze and fresh mint. The oysters were dirtier than I'm accustomed to but they were fatties and delicious (I wish they had a mignonette for the oysters--all they had was cocktail sauce and horseradish). The bread pudding was yummy as heck. My daughter’s crawfish ravioli was awesome. The seafood pasta was also bomb. There was a street band procession outside of the restaurant which was such a treat! Overall ambiance is chill. Will try and come back before we leave!!
Kieron Torres
Good food, good place, good people. Affordable food with decent portions. I had the sampler with the jambalaya, etouffee, and red beans and rice. The gumbo is not gluten free, as usual. The gumbo, gator bites, charbroiled oysters, and salads were ordered by others in the party. All food and drinks were delicious, and the service was great. The view was nice from the second floor. Highly recommended.

They do not have gluten free options. They also do not have sparkling water. The waitress seemed like we were a bother to her. The food was good.
Chad Parson
They make a super delicious mint julep!!! Best shrimp and grits I've had!!
melanie swenson
The Taste of New Orleans was absolutely perfect! Great service & cool balcony to watch the sunset & listen to live music from the street below
Ed M
Been 6 years since I have been here, food is still great from what I remember. Sat on balcony, great view of city street and even a girl was singing on corner. She was very good. People watching was good. Next time I am back in town. This is the must go to place. Thanks
Alice Catron
Strawberry Lemonade drink was tasty but the Oysters were the highlight! Great bartender too
corpus FUSION
Stopped in by default do to we were tired. The scenery is beautiful and the wait staff was super friendly and welcoming. Sorry to hear others didn't have the same experience.
The food came out without a long wait. The Po-Boy was just a Po-Boy good bit nothing to write about. It is in the heart of the French Quarter and the Po-Boy should be better.
The restaurant 8/10. Po-Boy 5/10.
Mouhamed Bseileh
There was about an hour wait at the door but it was worth it. Seating on the balcony overlooks the street and adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. The oyster selection is great whether fried, raw or baked. They also have alligator and blue crab which was delicous.
Moni Tipp
This is the best restaurant in New Orleans. After the first time there we went back every day. Greg the waiter is the sweetest. Every single one of his suggestions did not disappoint. Obi the host is hilarious. Gotta love him!!! The wait is worth every minute. Go here. You will not be disappointed. The pecan pie is the best!!!!
John Owens
We were seated on the balcony. Tables leaning towards the railings! Stood the wine bottle in the plant hanger! Tia was lovely and looked after us. Great food and wine. Thanks Shawn we returned a few days later for dinner after that excellent lunch I wrote the review about! And we sat on the balcony again!
Lara Ward
Everything was awesome! Inga was our server and she was amazing!! The food is so on point... The jambalaya is close to the best I've ever had. Fried alligator is perfect, and right down to the french fries!! Did I say "on point"?? Take a few people or a crowd... They can handle it! Bravo Royal House!!
Amanda Taylor
We got seated on the balcony immediately on a busy Saturday night! Our server, Katelynn, was fantastic. Best french 75 I’ve ever had! The oysters and blue crab were incredible and even though she said food was taking long in the kitchen, it wasn’t long at all and so worth it :)
Renee Marble
Ate on the balcony and the location was great. We could see all the "goings ons" below. I ordered the fish platter and spinach dip. The food tasted wonderful and our server was so friendly. It's is great place to relax and enjoy quickly served yummy food. 😋 …

First time coming to this place and I highly recommend Leroy as your server as it made this an ever-lasting magical moment to remember for eternity.. he was extremely kind and connected with us on a personal level! Thank you!!💗 …
Russell Akred
friendly service and a full plate of tasty food. We will be back next trip.
Josalyn Shanell Sanders
I'm from Memphis, TN and I visited New Orleans recently. Royal House was recommended by my hotel attendant for their delicious cuisine. From the food to the service, everything was EXCELLENT. I sat upstairs and the bartender, Anthony, was our server. He recommended the Jambalaya and I must say, I was BLOWN AWAY. lol. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Anthony and the Royal House gets 5 stars :)
Ian Allison
Awesome service at the bar, good food.
They had problems with the grill the night we were there and communicated very well what was available and was not. Our one, non seafood meal in NOLA, great chicken.
Awesome bartenders, friendly and knowledgeable.
Kimberly Orellana
We sat upstairs on the balcony which made the experience amazing! The drinks were good and the food was also great. The shrimp plate was delicious! We also recommend the Chargrilled Oysters. Definitely would comeback!
Kelly D'Auria
Royal house was, as usual, a great go to for lunch. We started with bloody marys (yum) and went on to some serious oysters...both raw & charbroiled (the best!). Add in some crab claws and some chicken & andouille gumbo & we were happy campers. We missed Jeffrey but Blake was great.
Aubrey Christian
Located in the French quarters with decor and atmosphere to match. Staff was friendly and the food was good and worth the price.
Amanda Beam
The food was delicious! Warm breakfast bowl was so good. Bottomless Mimosas were good too. We sat upstairs on the balcony and enjoyed the sights. Service was warm and friendly.

Pros: I got to try gator for the first time and that was good. The outdoor entertainment from the street was awesome!
Cons: Unfortunately, I feel as though this is a tourist trap. I'm not sure how they got such great reviews. Everything except the gator tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Our server was nice but got our order wrong twice, then got the check wrong. The people behind us were very rude to the server and complained that their food "didn't have enough crawfish". The manager came by their table, apologized, corrected their order, and then gave them 2 free desserts.
We continued to be nice and respectful (because we always are) despite all the mistakes. We did get an apology but no one offered us free dessert. I guess if you're rude and mean to your server, you get rewarded with free dessert? 🤷🏾♀️ There are so many more options to go to for better food and excellent service. Try those instead.
Boram Choi
I loved their oysters!!! I tried the taste of southern sampler they had, but really wish I went with the server’s recommendation of the ravioli. Someone at my table got it and it was SO GOOD. We were there at an odd time when the shifts changed so our drinks tasted different from our first rounds (better flavor, weak alcohol) and our last rounds (stronger alcohol flavor). Felt nice to be in the middle of a big room with all the windows open!
Tangela S.
Great food yesssss taste freaking amazing please check it out
JackFlash64
Very good food and service. The blackened fish with green beans and added blue crab was particularly good
Kysaundra Phillips
I was dining alone and asked for a balcony table. It sure didn’t disappoint! The ambience was just what I was looking for and the wait staff were wonderful! I got the voodoo juice and blackened redfish. My only complaint was the voodoo juice seemed a little watered down, but other than that it was a very pleasant experience!
Liz P (m3rquinn)
When the hubby and I got there, we got seated right away. We ordered the half dozen chargrilled oysters only because they were cheaper then getting them at happy hour somewhere else. Plus we wanted to enjoyed oysters on our last day in New Orleans. There was a wait, but our waiter checked up on a few times. He even went out of his way to check the status of oysters as they were being taken off the grill. As the oysters came out, they looked appetizing and boy were they delicious, especially for my first time trying them.
Overall, this was a great first time experience trying oysters! We will definitely be coming back!

Fabulous food and excellent service. Waitrons always kept my soda full and food was brought out quickly. Walked half a mile from the hotel in the rain to get here and once I tasted the food it was 100% worth it. Spinach and artichoke dip was delicious. Fried alligator was the best I've had so far. Jalepenos hush puppies were fried to perfection and had a great flavor. The jalepeno complemented the batter perfectly, very much like a fritter. My main meal was a Crispy fried oyster BLT. I'm not a fan of traditional BLTs, but this one was my exception. Oysters lightly fried in a very crispy batter. Oysters can be tricky, sometimes they can take much like bait. These were all seafood goodness. Topped with a generous helping or apple wood smoked bacon, fresh tomatoes and lettuce then smothered in Chipotle mayo all on top of the light flaky New Orleans style French bread. This is without a doubt the best seafood poboy I've had in my entire life. I concluded my culinary trip to heaven with bread pudding. Warm dense layers of sweet brow sugary goodness topped with a Carmel glaze. Perfect ending to a perfect meal. Definitely one for my history books of best meals. By all means, stop by and get a poboy.
Sam
We went here for lunch today while on our honeymoon vacay and loved it! They have an excellent upper balcony for a lunch with a view. I had oysters, the seafood pasta, and bread pudding, every menu item was delicious! Our server's name was Mickie and she was excellent, so friendly and accomodating. Will definitely come back here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dining spot in the area!
Heather Clark
Fantastic soup, oysters and cocktails. We sat on the balcony and the atmosphere was incredible. The service was great too. This was one of the top 3 restaurants I visited while in NOLA.
Benjamin easter
Absolutely loved the Taste of New Orleans! And don't worry about the floor it's supposed to be tilted!
Tricia Servin
Food was very good. Our waitress was super
Melanie Hernandez
Food and service were incredible! Nirobe’s hospitality was amazing and he made sure we had an amazing experience at his bar. We had a half dozen raw oysters which were super fresh and the Seafood Pescatore which is a must. 1000% recommend!
Francisco León
thea best oysters in town and the Royal Benedict was amazing
annie taylor
Delicious food and drinks and the staff was amazing!
David Van Benthuysen
Just spent a long weekend in NOLA and this was our first meal. Wonderful seats on the balcony, fantastic service from the friendliest waitress, and stunningly delicious food at a reasonable price. We had many other meals from a variety of restaurants while in the FQ (including Antoine's), but both agreed that the Royal House was the best. Very Highly recommended.
Elizabeth Roland
Blue crab claws were delicious. Service was a bit slow (kitchen not the waitress). Was able to navigate inside with a walker which I appreciated.
kurt rhodes
Small place off the beaten path. Service was great. The local beer was exactly what I was looking for. The oysters were very tasty. Wish I would have ordered a dozen. The seafood stuffed mushrooms were on point. Sea food pasta was loaded with seafood, but the tomato-based sauce was over powering.
K Castro
Visited this restaurant after being on the road for a few hours and made a stop into New Orleans to sight see for a bit. We came here base on a locals recommendation. Huge portions on your plates and everything tasted good. There really wasn’t anything to rant and rave about. The quality and presentation of the food was great and we had no problem diving into our plates. I don’t know too many places to eat around the French Quarter but this restaurant was a good visit. You are paying French Quarter prices for sure though.
Cori Wojo
Amazing food, staff, and atmosphere. We were able to grab a seat on the balcony and enjoyed the charred oysters and the blackened chicken with jambalaya. We finished off the evening with the brownie alamode.
Jason Kern
At the recommendation of a friend, I stopped here to have some oysters. We waited 30 minutes at lunch time on a Saturday to sit on the balcony. Staff was very attentive. Drinks were very good (a bit expensive) and the oysters were some of the best I've had.
Sarah Thompson
Must have Blue Crab Claws! They were the most delicious start to our meal. We also had oysters on half shell and the crawfish and crabmeat ravioli which were both incredible. Would highly recommend!
Jessica Cardoni
Our Favorite meal in New Orleans... the balcony seating is a little crooked and someone dropped a fork and someone else I think spilled a drink and I got to tell you it was very entertaining! If you’re walking on the street below be on guard 🤣. I know it might not have anything to do with the royal house but there was also a guitarist on the street below and it’s at the absolute best ambience. I think the fried oyster tacos were my favorite thing I ate in the entire city on this vacation! I don’t know how you feel about oysters or coleslaw but it doesn’t matter order them! All of the waitstaff might be amazing but if you can get Gregory to wait on you, there is no way you won’t have a marvelous time!!! He was attentive, and charming and made perfect recommendations!!
Arthur Thomason
Through my many journeys I have experienced the best and worst bars. In coming to New Orleans I was determined to find the greatest hurricane since Katrina. Rebecca at the Royal House made it for me. This is an amazing city with a great party culture and the drinks Rebecca makes are the best way to start, end, or continue any marvelous misadventure you embark on!
Shanieka Edwards
I wish I had found this restaurant earlier in my trip. The food was amazing! We ordered the charbroiled oysters, crawfish etouffe , and a crawfish ravioli, all super flavorful. Probably the best meal I’ve had here. Service was amazing too.
Amani Fields (Twisted Rootz)
We had the broiled oysters and claws. Both were awesome. The only issue I had was that there was not enough bread with the claws. No biggie, extra bread was only .50...well worth it.
Mamadou Seck
Great restaurant located in the French Quarters with nice outdoor seating and and live band music from street musicians and dancing from random people walking through the area. Good clean Southern food with good flavors!
James Huycke
It's the typical LOUD and very BRIGHTLY lit, crowded, old building French Quarter NOLA oyster experience. The food, drinks and service are good, just expect a noisy crowd and/or a wait. If you ae with a group and looking for a boisterous night out you are in the right place.
Ronnie M
The crab claws were great but the service was atrocious. we were upstairs with only a few other tables and our server never took our drink order, refilled our waters, cleared our table from the appetizers or got us silverware. It was unfortunate especially for the price.
Neil Modino
I like Cajun food but I think the food is too overpriced. Etouffee is delicious but way too small for a stew and rice. I know it's in the french quarter but there are more place that is reasonable and affordable.
Adam Pritchard
It used to be a 5 star place before Covid, but they cut back on the portion sizes, it frankly has just become ok. Example the crawfish etouffee used to come with bread, that was axed after Covid. As a customer just include what you had before and I’ll pay the extra 50 cents for the bread. I think the quality needs improvement to get back to where it was. Fried alligator appetizer also used to taste better few years back
Oscar Enrique Phelps
Good Drinks 🍹 service. Just amazing we come every time we come to Nola. Creole food Cajun
John Z-man
Been here before and it doesn't disappoint. The staff is really good and always ready to make your experience great. Drinks were spot on, the food was outrageously good. They kick butt with the Oysters Rockefeller. This is a must come place when in the French Quarter. I know I will always come knowing I will get a great meal, fun time, and just know it will be perfect...
Shadasia Lewis
Although busy, after waiting to be seated it was worth the wait. Food was great. Sat at the bar where Nairobi took great care of us. Drinks were delicious.
Sey Done
Oysters were fresh, steak was cooked to perfection, the sampler (jambalaya, gumbo and rice and beans) was amazing and as busy as it was our waitress was attentive and fast and friendly. Def one of our favorites.
Katherinne G
Food was good. The place was good. The service was little slow
Jeffrey Egnatovich
Corner location across the street from the courthouse. Second floor balcony dining has a great view and allows for the diner to take in some of the street "happenings". The balcony is a bit weathered and slightly angled, but it held without incident 😁
Our server, Brittany, was extremely friendly and helpful with navigating the menu. The chargrilled Oysters were fantastic. Very flavorful and not overcooked or dry. The shrimp tortellini was also very yummy and plentiful.
Wade Baskin
Super friendly service, nice view for people watching and hearing some of the classic NOLA sounds. Really good food - well flavored and good quality. Excellent classic and local cocktails! Perfect place to stop for when in the quarter.
Chloe Streeter
This place was recommended by a friend and I was absolutely stunned by how good the food was. I ordered the blue crab claws from the appetizers as my entree. The sauce that they came in was phenomenal. My father ordered the shrimp and grits. Which was also just as amazing. We had a french quarter margarita and old fashioned and were not disappointed. The vibe was very cool, not overly packed and not huge and over the top. The bar was super cute and the waitress was awesome. I will definitely be back!
Joanne Renee
Excellent service. We were seated at the bar on a busy night and the bartender/server was very patient with my niece who took literally 15 minutes to decide what she wanted to eat. Food was tasty too.
Yan Karasik
One of our favorite places in NOLA. We ate there almost every day during our visit, Breakfast, Lunch and dinners. Staff is always friendly, food is good and reasonably priced. You can sit on the balcony if weather permits. We had raw oysters, baked Oysters, Poboys and bloody Marry.
Bella Dene
Came down the street upon hearing live jazz. This restaurant faces a corner and a group men were playing instruments. I came for the music and a beer and ended up trying alligator for the first time. It's got late 80s music playing so happy for the jazz band. 🤭 …

We visited NOLA this week and had dinner at Royal House despite the fact that we are leaving very challenging times our waiter Nirobe was extremely friendly and helpful.
The location is great right in the heart of the French Quarter, we had a great time and definitely enjoyed our food we ordered the Oysters Platter and an Oyster Po-Boy paired we super cold Dixie (Lager beer) and a Big Easy IPA, simply put DELICIOUS.
Definitely coming back whenever we are in town.

Was a charming and delightful place. The food was phenomenal beyond words. My partner and I was there for breakfast he has the Craw-fish etouffee Benedict and I had the royal omelet. Both were amazing beyond words. The services was great and the waiter was very attentive and made sure that our needs were met, the manager even stopped by to ensure that everything was well.
A must visit while in the big easy.
Michael Green
I used to love this place and would come out of my way to go hear for the redfish begneits. They dont serve those anymore, though the crawfish toast is ok. But the service is now awful (didn't used to be). If you want prompt and attentive wait staff then go elsewhere.
Sid P (sid)
I ordered the seafood pescatore and the sauce was bland. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits, which he said was delicious. The jambalaya was also tasty. The drinks were well made but service was slow on them.
Law Joseph
Staff was Friendly Enjoyed Halloween 🎃 Here. Food was Really Good Had Charbroile Oysters and Crawfish Ravioli. Also had the Bread Pudding Dessert 🍮. DELICIOUS
Patrick M
Wonderful way to spend a morning. Great food, staff and ambiance.
Tiger Steimle
Loved the brownie with ice cream and it was the best spinach and artichoke dip I've ever had. Amazing service and great atmosphere as well!
Maggy lou
Made our evening with great southern hospitality!! Dinner was delicious and service spot on!! Thank You, your kitchen and front of the house service!!
Omar Davis
Ordered the jambalaya (shrimp substituted for chicken) and gumbo... Two terrific dishes! A wonderful dining experience.
Sara Span
The food was outstanding!!! Had the blue crab claws, the New Orleans sample platter, (Gumbo was my favorite) and fried oysters.
Leann Brackney
Great service; decent drink and appetizer options; nice break in a busy day. Area noise a turn off, but not anything the bar could do to solve.
Kevin Howell
Grilled oysters were excellent, as was the staff. Solid menu with good variety of well prepared food.
Traveling Goose
After a million times walking by, I finally stopped in and it was an absolute pleasure. The service was super friendly and quick, and I absolutely recommend trying the chargrilled oysters!
Captain sandbar
Everything was pretty good, however it kind of seemed like I had that run of the mill vibe. The shrimp I would have expected to be more fresh and bigger, not like you got them off the Cisco truck. The chargrilled oysters are the bomb!!
Chris Bullock
We were looking for a causal restaurant for dinner and this matched the spot perfectly. We sat at the bar and the bartender was hilarious as he was cracking jokes left and right. We had a couple drink that were well prepared, redfish beignets (would recommend) and a couple entries (good). Overall the environment was good and the staff seem helpful.
Tim Daniels
We ate dinner on the balcony and really enjoyed the ambience, view, sounds, food, and service. I had the oyster po' boy, which was DELICIOUS. The balcony--although a nice experience--is SEVERELY slanted and gave the thought of falling. It's one thing to be slanted for drainage purposes, but this is a bit extreme. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. A bit pricey but expected for being an oyster bar. A good recommendation.
Mary Martin
Stopped in for some oysters and a Hurricane. Great service and atmosphere. The large oysters were freshly shucked in front of us at the bar. Topped them off with NOLA standard ... a Hurricane. We plan to be back for dinner before we head home.
Kamila Lasińska
It think it didn’t caught the vibe of this place.
I ate a Taste of New Orleans:gumbo was the only meal I didn’t like but for sure I recommend the crawfish etouffee.
Fried shrimps- nothing special.
I won’t come back there, there are more and better restaurants around.
lizerbet
Excellent service, food, and drinks. I got the oyster tostadas, which were more like oyster nachos. They were small but really delicious.
S Langley
Food was decent oysters were good. Drinks were decent. Just an average spot. I had to the spinach dip back. It’s a place you could live without. Not terrible but not great!
Lai Shawn love
The roasted oysters are amazing and the French onion soup 🍲 is the truth raw oysters are sweet staff was amazing.I highly recommend
Jennifer St. John
Food was good but the service was a bit slow. I didn't receive my beverage until after the food came because they seemed confused on how to make a spritz.
Greg Johnson
This wasn't a bad stop. They were open 3:00pm timeframe. The redfish was pretty good. I ordered the lump crab meat on top. The fried alligator was pretty good as well. Alot of tea to wash this food down. The menu has alot of choices. For a less pricy option, I do recommend
David Hays
Food: great, ambiance: great, service: not so much. The food is better when you have something to drink. Glasses ran empty and stayed that way. Reminded the server twice! Still no drinks. Finally got refilled but by then, we had finished eating. Server was quick to return for the check though.
Martis Hollis
I enjoyed this restaurant so much!! Not only did I try the spinach dip that was superb. My friend ds loved the fresh clams platter. The seafood boil platter was great also wherever I come back I have to buy a full pie of that Butter Pecan Pie!!! Friendly staff and great presentation Thanks for the great time.
Tina Bastien
Food was great and so was Naroibe, who provided the amazing food and conversation. No wait to get in where most places are closing at 9pm and not taking new customers. Best choice we could have made.
Jamie Kim
Ordered the fried oysters tostados, grilled oysters, and the redfish plate with jambalaya and green beans. It was all really good! Only complaint would be that the tostadas should be on actual tostadas instead of tortilla chips.
Sat on the balcony, enjoyed live music, and perfect shaded weather. Would definitely come back, food felt authentic.
M. Guilbert
The portion sizes were smaller compared to other places out here. The charbroiled oysters were amazing (and i usually don't even eat oysters. My meal was good but nothing really over the top. However the service was amazing.
Kiran Antony
So we went here and for appetizers decided to choose the fried alligators 😮 Was sceptical but honestly when it came in it tasted like chicken, very tender. 👌
Then for the main course had tried the shrimp tortellini and the oyster pasta. Now the oyster pasta the base was good and it's spicy but the fried oysters weren't the greatest. There shrimp tortellini however is a must have.. excellent !
The bread pudding is real different with the peaches and raisins but I'll go for it ( maybe the red velvet pie could have been an alternate option 🤔) ..
Great service.. food is fresh with fresh meat and vegetables and the views onto the French quarters was refreshing ..
Go ahead and visit the place, you wouldn't regret it.
Frank Furgal
Food was great. The crab claws in garlic butter sauce is out of this world. The service could be better.
Tamara O'Donnell
Food was amazing, we ordered a bunch of appetizers so we could try a little of everything. The oysters were fresh and delicious. We sat on the balcony so we could soak up the atmosphere. There was libe music on the street, it was perfect!
Paige Wyse
My husband and I visited New Orleans a week ago, and Royal House was recommended to us by a local. We tried it on our first day there and went back again a few days later. We sat at the bar, and the bartender's service was phenomenal! He was fun, energetic and was great at his job.
The food was also phenomenal. Throughout both times visiting, we had the Shrimp Po Boy, Oyster Po Boy, Alligator Bites, Shrimp Platter and 1/2 dozen Raw Oysters. Everything was so delicious and the seafood was fresh. Also, the atmosphere and decorations we're great, too! Thanks, Royal House, for making our trip memorable!
Mrs Bustamante
I would’ve given it a 5 but service was horrible, server seemed like he didn’t want to be there, he never came back to check if we needed anything. I had to look for him to get the check. It wasn’t even busy, he only had 2 tables.
Christopher Hinton-Miller
Good food and good service. I hit the mens room on my way out and just had to take and post pictures. Cause it’s funny. I gave up and stepped out of the stall to pull my pants up. What’s wrong in these pictures?
Danuta
Brilliant. Our waiter, Leroy, was so sweet and accommodating - our two teenage daughters are picky eaters and he was more than happy to customize their orders, making sure everyone was happy with what they received. The food was absolutely fantastic, perfectly seasoned, not drowned in sauces or spices. It’s rare to find a restaurant with delicious fish that doesn’t rely on heavy seasoning for flavor - this place had it. Leroy was very attentive without being overbearing, and the staff as a whole was very pleasant and involved. Wish we’d discovered this place earlier, as it’s our last day in NOLA. Recommending to everyone.
Catherine Shawarby
We were initially given a small table just by the restroom even though there were loads of good empty tables! We asked for a better one and we’re given as we requested.
Reasonable choices on the menu we both went for fried seafood, one shrimp one fish. Service was friendly and not to bad a wait for food.
Food was average but ok. Hush puppies were good. Also the first time in Nola we’ve been offered top ups for drinks!
Franco Zatara
We came here on a recommendation from one of the Valets. The food was incredible. Niangel, our server, was friendly, courteous and recommended some amazing entrees. The children's menu seemed like it had actual food, not just frozen tenders. Although the space felt a bit tighter for a family space, everything else made up for it. Will definitely be a staple on future stops here. Thank you!
Santiago Soto
Robert S, really took care of us, food was amazing… great place to visit.
J Habets
Great place for an anniversary dinner. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly
Krystal B
We decided to go here because they had the Taste of New Orleans dish. Figured it was a great way for us to try a little bit of everything. My husband got that. I ordered the crab claw appetizer and garlic mashed new potatoes. The portions here are tiny compared to other seafood places nearby. The crab claws were a little heavy in lemon for me. I prefer a hint of lemon to my seafood dishes. The potatoes were a little deceiving from the description, but they were probably the best thing I ate that night. Definitely suggest ordering them.
Complaints:
My potatoes were served in a dish that probably needs to be thrown away. There were enough chips in the dish to count on two hands.
The seating is super cramped. We kept getting bumped into either by the person behind us or people passing by.
The service wasn't the best. It took forever to get our food and the guy told us 3 times he would refil our drinks, but never did.
It wasnt the worst experience in the world, but we probably won't be back.
Tyler Santoyo
The Jambalaya, Gumbo, and Aligator Po-Boys were great! The shrimp from the Jambalaya literally melted in my mouth. For a restaurant during Covid-19, they were great with social distancing and service. Not to mention their Hurricane's were delicious.
Amy C
Super yummy! Our server was great, atmosphere is extremely fun and food was fantastic l. Highly suggest the oysters
Lauren
The food was very good. The service was quick and very friendly. Our overall experience here was really nice. I would go back
Chuck Shubert
Wife really enjoyed the oysters, shrimp n grits for me were awsome. I highly recommended checking this place out!
Simon Jeff
A lovely place, we eat at the bar and my jambalaya was tasty with a great spinach dip too.

Went to the "Royal House" on 9/8/19 to partake in some Louisiana oysters and escape the 100+ deg. heat. We were seated upon arrival at a table for 2, halfway in, near the bar. The restaurant was busy and somewhat loud with background music, customer chatter and bustling servers . . . I found the busyness and noise inviting, being part of my New Orleans, French Quarter experience.
I ordered a "bloody mary, french onion soup & a dozen chargrilled oysters". As far as flavor (mix, garnishes and heat level) the "bloody mary" was excellent . . . could've used a little more vodka though. "French onion soup" is all about the beef bone stock, then the type of onions used, how well their caramelized along with the width of cut. The soup I was served wasn't made with 'house' bone stock . . . more like a purchased beef concentrate in which it's salty flavor overpowered the flavor of the onions (couldn't distinguish the onion type(s)). The onions were also thinly cut and not properly caramelized. I also prefer Gruyere atop "french onion soup" opposed to the "parmesan and mozzarella" served. As for the "chargrilled oysters" . . . they were chow! . . . should have ordered 2 dozen. The grilled "Parmesan butter cheese" topping didn't overpower the flavor of the Louisiana oysters and was a nice, smokey, cheesy compliment . . . very tasty indeed.
Besides the "chargrilled oysters" and "mary" . . . the thing that 'stood out' to me was the unhygienic actions of our waitress . . . continuously combing her hair back behind her ears and shoulders with her fingers on her left hand . . . put a damn ponytail in and quit fussing with your hair! . . . I don't know what their other duties include but the servers here also garnish the drinks. Having not received my "bloody mary" yet I had some concerns. I saw a "mary" up and noticed our waitress using her right, not left hand to retrieve garnishes for the (my) drink . . . somewhat of a "wash your hands then make my drink" confrontation relief . . . still should of said something. Waitstaff that handle money, checkbooks, menus, rags, dirty dishes, bus trays, the occasional finger grooming then food and drinks without washing their hands is always a concern of mine but seem to be the norm in a society where employees wear many hats . . . not hairnets . . . her service was also inattentive.
"Chargrilled oysters, bloody mary" and atmosphere . . . 5 stars
"French onion soup" and waitress . . . 1 star

We needed some classic creole food after a long day of drinking and shopping. We pretty much hit up every spot we planned to eat at and didn’t know where else to go. Right at the corner where the courthouse is, we looked up and saw the Royal House, a spot we passed numerous times when walking from destination to destination. Checked out the menu and were sold.
We sat at the bar where we were treated like Royalty by a gentleman who relocated from Cali. He automatically gave us complimentary oysters, which he prepared directly in front of us as he greeted and gave us a rundown on the menu. I told him what were looking for but didn’t really give him any help. He suggested One popular item and One he loved. I chose both while my wife went with the classic fried shrimp with fries and hush puppies.
I went with the Crab Claws, which he said a lot of people come in here specifically for, and the Oyster and Red Fish Beignets. One might think a doughnut filled with fish sounds terrible, but let me tell you, you would be mistaken. Their take on a classic Fish and Chips will make you question any preconceived notion of what fish and chips should taste like. And even though this was an appetizer, it’s more than enough to be a dinner. Now, as amazing as the Redfish Beignet was, the Crab Claws were everything you dream crab to be, everytime you have crab.
The near 10 legs, came sauteed and sitting in the most unbelievable lemon, garlic butter sauce accompanied by sliced, garlic French bread. The taste was dynamic and every tastebud was tingling with delight after each bite. If I could bathe in the sauce, I would, and I would do it twice daily.
The location of the Royal House can be overlooked due to where it’s central location is. But if you pass it, stop in just for the crab claws if you only have a brief few moments, it will be worth your while. Then stop by after a long night of drinking to grab some doughnuts filled with fish. 😉

Best crawfish etouffee in New Orleans! Great service and atmosphere.
Lauren
Planning a trip back just to have more of this ravioli!!! The sampler plate is delicious and the staff is friendly. On a busy evening they did a great job!
Veronica Rodriguez
The best restaurant in our mini vacation in New Orleans!
Ambiance, staff, service, food, drinks and entire staff, especially our hostess Dacia.
She was very welcoming, informative, polite, friendly and attentive!
10 stars!!!!!!👍🏽❤️
Renee R
Totally awesome experience and food. I had the crab claws and they tasted great. There wasn’t a long wait time. The food and portions are good for the price you pay. The drinks were good as well.
Ann Forsberg
This is a great restaurant that was in close proximity to our hotel. We actually visited twice during this trip to NOLA. First visit for quick snack of a dozen raw oysters on day 1 of our trip and then the following day for a late dinner. For dinner last night we ordered the taste of New Orleans (with all 4 selections) along with a dozen raw oysters. The raw oysters were great quality, size and taste overall. The taste of New Orleans sampler was enough to let you try a little bit of everything but also filling and also very tasty!
KW Music
The same quality oysters you'll find at Acme without the ridiculous wait. The char grilled are amazing. My wife ordered fried shrimp and they were outstanding. Blake did a great job tending bar and shucking oysters.
Francisco Castelo
Right on the corner, so if you sit on the balcony you get a nice view of the hustle and bustle going on below. The food was excellent, especially the grilled oysters and gumbo. I thought the etouffe and jambalaya was also good. Prices are are very reasonable.
Oh, the pickled green beans in the bloody Mary are the sourest things I've ever had! I definitely recommend.
Anante Jariwala
Fresh. Great oysters, freshly served. Chargrilled oysters are a perfection here. I also recommend the crab claws, the sauce is on point. Pair up the Purple Haze beer with the cold oysters. Great service also.
Jaime Mendiola
Really good appetizers and main course. Would reccomend crab claws, onion soup, shrimp and grits, ravioli, and rockefeller oysters.
Ashlei Michael
Place is amazing! Oysters are super fresh and the service is out of this world. Balcony is a little tight and leaning so sit at your own risk.
Kevin Lawson
This was the most expensive restaurant we did on our whole trip. But the food was amazing. I ordered the Blackened Redfish with Char-Broiled oysters. It was to die for. For two people we spent a little over $80. Great experience!
Ariel Laporte
Really great food and service!!! Everything we had was awesome!
Amanda H
My fave place that we ate at in NOLA, and my friend will agree! Could not go wrong with redfish beignets and chargrilled oysters as appetizers, we were in love!! Then we split crawfish raviolis and just a fried shrimp platter as well. The portion of the ravs could've definitely been bigger, but the portion size of the shrimp kinda made up for it. It was busy, a Monday night, but not busy that we had to wait or even felt rushed. Our waitress was Tina, she was attentive, friendly, and had great recommendations.
Oh and of course, hurricanes lol.
Nyabinghi Djehutti
Had a ridiculously overpriced oyster Po Boy which featured barely a handful of the smallest oysters I have ever seen. What's worse is that they were overcooked (burnt). Apparently, it's a tourist trap. I saw some larger oysters being shucked at the bar on my way out, but don't know who they were reserved for.
Andy Litzinger
Had a fantastic breakfast here. Our server was great and the balcony seating was a lot of fun. Crawfish Benedict and two eggs and grits breakfast was awesome.
Anisa Hosein
The oysters and the marinated crab claws were excellent! I also loved their voodoo juice, it was a very delicious drink.
Tony Forshey
First taste of New Orleans and it did not disappoint. The charbroiled oysters were some of the best I've had anywhere and the New Orleans Trio was a welcome dip into the flavors that dominate the quintessential staples of the area. Accommodated our group of ten best they could without a reservation and delivered wonderful service to the adults and kids alike. Definitely putting the Royal House on the list to visit next time I come around.
Joshua Grippo
The redfish beignet was not was expected. It was absolutely much more. Savory with just a touch of sweet. It's refreshing to see chefs do new things with old ingredients!
Keniisha Matthews
Everyone was so hospitable and warm. The food was rich, well seasoned, comfort! Everything came out quickly and was nice and hot. Prices we very reasonable! Can't wait until my next vist
Tonja Horton
I absolutely love this spot!! Went there during a girls trip and the others liked their food. The customer service was excellent!!! This was my 4th time eating there and II is a go-to!!
Britney Zanders
I grabbed a window seat and went to work. 1/2 dozen raw and 1/2 dozen chargrilled... DELICIOUS! Service was quick and kind, I was in and out for lunch. I'm going back for more... Probably tomorrow 😂😂🤤🤤🤤🤤 …

We visited this place 6 years ago but had forgotten the name and location. I was lucky enough to find it after I did some searching and we enjoyed and nice meal and great drinks. They were actually the best drinks out of our 3 day visit to New Orleans. I look forward to going back and eating some of thier delicious red beans and rice. I highly recommend!!
Dee B
We ordered bowls of crawfish etouffee and gumbo to-go. The etouffee was okay. It wasn't very flavorful but it was good enough to eat. The gumbo was completely disgusting and there were only a few tiny pieces of "meat" in it. It tasted kind of burnt and was very bland. I do not feel like the price for these dishes (almost $20 each) is nearly worth it. I feel like the wait was longer than it should've been for a to-go order too. I don't think I would go here again.
Angela Hanson
Fabulous food!! We had the blue crab appetizer, French Onion soup, spinach salad and ravioli. Colleen was amazing!
Jay Kim
pretty tight restaurant. super overpriced dishes. seems like a tourist trap with their prices. we got the basics, crawfish ettouffee and jambalaya and a po boy. i honestly think we have better cajun food in houston than this place. only good thing was the oysters, they were nice and sweet.
Andrew K.
Amazing service. Raeshante was so helpful explaining the menu and all the dishes!!! She was so friendly and going out of her way to make our night memorable.
Fishin' In Scrubs
After spending 3 days in the French quarter and eating the same type of food, it ends up tasting the same and I had a hard time discriminating which restaurant was better than the other... The food here was good... Had the sampler (gumbo, jumbalaya, etouffee), fried gator, and oysters...
Rav cell
Overall - good. But some oysters have mud inside, and one order of charbroiled oysters was overcooked
E
Was crowded, service was very slow and chaotic sitting at the bar. Oysters Rockefeller were a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. Not the freshest I've tasted. Crab claw appetizer while portion was really small, they were great!
Dolly Carrington
Those crab claws in that sauce was everything. Delicious chargrilled oysters. The drinks were meh but the food was great!
Andy
Kevin was amazing! Made me feel comfortable... I was hoping to watch the Dolphin game, it wasn't showing on TV so he put it on his phone and let me watch! Just an amazing time...ty
Neil Evans
Not the greatest eatery in New Orleans, but fairly reliable and convenient if you're staying in the french quarter. It's great for cocktails and oysters, but the entrees aren't the greatest. A little overpriced, but again, it's in the French Quarter and perhaps a step above most of the dive bars in the area
Shamica Stiles
Been searching for oysters in a half shell since I arrived an man this place sure didn't let you down they had a balcony dining an great view has a person playing music it was lovely
Willow Ramsay
Good but not great. Our server was delightful, they let us sit upstairs even thigh the patio was closing. The oysters were huge, I prefer tiny ones, not their fault. The shrimp and grits were better at cafe amelie. These were just gritz, no cheese as the menu stated they were dry and plain. And the wine list was eh. My husband loved his blackened chicken sandwich and margarita.
Rickey Brewer
Dacia at the bar was fantastic...great recommendations for what to eat and drink ill be back just to see her thank u dacia
David Hardy
Great place to catch great food . Bloody's were outstanding as were fried oysters. Central located. Very easy to get anywhere from here.
SoCal Obear
So good we had lunch here twice! Wait staff is well trained and very humble. Fresh Oysters, Red Fish Beignets, Gumbo, Po Boys, Andouille Sausage Redbeans & Rice, Sazaracs & Dark n Stormys! A must do in NOLA!
Koerrea Leonardo Rodriguez
Them charbroiled oyster OMG to die for...got a half dozen and then ordered a second. I also got the Crawfish ravioli and it was so good..pic shows it after I have half eaten it....parking was hard tho that's the only downfall and in walking distance to the strip if you catch an Airbnb.
kathy vendrig
Excellent Stuffed mushrooms, Oyster Duo. Bananas Foster with cheescake and spicecake was very tasty. My party also enjoyed fresh oysters and Mahi Mahi. The redfish was a tad dry.
Pattrice Jones
Me and My Guest was Greeted by an Awesome Man Obie very courtesy, prompt and sweet spirited individual. Put a huge smile on my face. Hospitality 💯 …
michael foster
Had lunch on our last day in NOLA and had just about given up on any expectation of southern hospitality when stumbled upon this place on our way out of the city . The food is spectacular the view from the balcony is Breathtaking and the service is impeccable! Totally changed my mood leaving the city
Ash Smith
So delicious! You must stop here when you go to Nola!
Bonnie Tan
We had half dozen each of the half shells and the chargrilled. We prefer the chargrilled here way better than at Felix over at French Quarters
Merressa Schwenneker
If you get the chance dine outside on the upstairs patio. You can 'people watch' and enjoy the view while you eat your yummy- greatly portioned meals. A memorable dinner date!
Angelica Robinson
I absolutely love this place! I go here every chance I get. My favorite things to get here are the Crawfish Ravioli and The Charbroiled oysters! The ambiance, food, drinks and customer service is amazing. If you sit at the bar, ask for Joel! He makes the best drinks. You won't be disappointed!
Albin Thottiyil
Food was decent.
Had the chicken jambalaya.
Service was good.
Would probably try something else next time.
Sean Kingsley
Food was great. If definitely come here again as I need to try The Taste of New Orleans. I sat at the bar but the staff wasn't very attentive. No bad praises as I was here for the food :)
Vladislav Kan
Finally got into this place on the third day because it’s always huge wait line. Food is great, staff is awesome!
Darin Caldwell
Great place for oysters and other dishes. Highly recommended!
Chris Evans
Quite busy when we got there. We got a seat right away. Food was good. Service was beyond slow the entire time. Drinks were OK
Pati Taylor
Good service, ok food. The French onion soup was great. I had a fried fish po boy. Fish was moist and well cooked, but bland. Not much toppings, bread fresh and soft. Husband had fried shrimp platter. Just ok. Too many fries. Alligator appetizer was yummy.
Cavin Ward-Caviness
Super friendly staff, great location right by Jackson Square, and delicious food. Took my mother here and she had the sampler (red beans, jambalaya, gumbo) and I had tge crawfish etouffee and we both left full and extremely satisfied. Be warned that in late fall they will still leave the windows open so a sweater or jacket may be needed. Is perfect is spring/summer to sit and watch people go by while getting great food
M Eli6
Love the balcony seating, its nice that they have different options for the charbroiled oysters. Ordered an Alaskan snow crab that was seasoned perfectly. Was bummed there was no lobster but the crab was delicious. Someone in our party ordered the etouffee and it was not very good honestly. Our waitress was super friendly, very helpful, & great with our kids. She was the reason we gave 4 stars instead of 3.
Mourrice Papi
Amazingly beautiful restaurant, great food and drinks, priced well! With so many places in NOLA, this one is an easy choice, balcony seating or great indoor AC on a hot day. Lovely service! Can’t say enough here, just visit!
Home-Built Creations By Scot Pieper
Greeted at the door. Our waitress was great attentive. We loved the food. We had fried alligator. Blackened shrimp jambalaya soooo good ! Then the bread pudding was our dessert! Great experience 5 stars!
Jarrod Murdaugh
Got to sit out on the balcony. Nice atmosphere. Food was good as well. Wife got shrimp and grits which was very good. I wouldn't recommend the Cajun Bloody Mary, not much flavor. Service was also a little lacking. Overall, we'd recommend.
Lamar McCubbin
Food was very good. Place is very busy so expect a wait. The grilled oysters are the best! Service is good but not 5 star..
Bridget Fredericks
Thoroughly enjoyed the chargrilled oysters. It would have been 5 stars if they put a little less cheese so as not to overpower the oysters. However, it really was excellent and I'm pretty much splitting hairs. The servers here we're all smiles and made the experience a win!
Pranjali Sharma
Came here late, around 9 pm for a quick bite. Got extremely lucky in that, they had one table left inside, so they offered us a balcony table!! We were able to enjoy the views, a marriage renewal parade and eat good food! My friend and I ordered the seafood platter. It was decent enough. They say it comes with hushpuppies, coleslaw and starter sauce, etc. Hushpuppies were 2 in number. The coleslaw and other sauces were in those takeaway small plastic bowls. The shrimp was good. The French fries ok. Looking at the place, I expected higher standards.
So overall, it is a 3, but the extra star is for our table, the views and the parade.
Jeffrey Musto
Food and drinks where delicious, great portions and taste, but our service was horrible, waitress had no business being a waitress table stayed dirty ,got thirsty . If it wasn't for manager who was doing her job when we told him about our issues. So first half meal of service ugh 2nd part better but waitress still horrible
Michael Crowley
We tried this place at the recommendation of a local. The food was amazing, I had the Tour of New Orleans, and all four items were awesome. Our server wasn't great, but the other wait staff seemed to be on top of things. If our waiter had been amazing then I would give this place 5 stars for sure.
Porshae'
Popped in Royal House late on the way to the hotel. The service was good the food was okay. For the area and the price, was expecting just a little more. There are lots of places that offer Chargrilled oysters so it's difficult to stand out. The Chargrilled oysters here seemed more broiled and ours came out a little cool. Actually the shell was much cooller than the oyster which was odd if they were cooked directly on a grill. The tomato mozzarella stack was okay but the dressing tasted like a bottled balsamic dressing. Would have been better with a homemade dressing or drizzle. The trio of Gumbo, Jambalaya, and I'm guessing Dirty Rice lacked some deep seasonings, the flavor just fell short and didn't taste developed. It wasn't horrible but for the prices and atmosphere, I just wanted a bit more.
Ms. Pat
I had the sampler that came with 4 samples 2 were cold, 1 had a scorched taste. The red beans and rice was hot and tasty. Our server was great. She gets a 5. The manager did offer me something else but I declined and he removed the sampler from my bill which I appreciate.
3/4/22 response: Thanks to GM Shawn Hardy for responding. On my next visit later this year I will give your restaurant another try and update my review.
Pavel Hardak
Very good experience - the food was fantastic, cocktails pretty good and great service (the last one is not very common in New Orleans, unfortunately).
Chimere oronzi
This is my favorite and always first place to when I'm in NOLA! The food is very tasty and the staff are great!
Stephen Clark
My girlfriend and I visited the great city of New Orleans and walked the French Quarter. We decided on eating at the Royal House. The atmosphere was great as well as the service. The restaurant was clean and bright. We ordered a beer, margherita, and shared an appetizer of crab claws. There were no prices on the menus but when the check came we were flabbergasted. $70 for the three items. We enjoyed everything about the place except the cost of our order. I recommend getting a price on what you ordered unless money is no object. I will not go back unless I win the lottery.
Tianna DuCloux-Potter
Delicious food, great server and the tvs play sunday football! The lobster ravioli was packed with flavor with a delicious layer of cheeses on top.
Ana Paula
Great food, low key. Servers didn’t bother and weren’t over our shoulders. Good old fashion dinning and music
Sarena Fritch
Delicious food in an upscale, yet comfortable setting next door to the Marriott on Canal Street. The waiter was very pleasant, helpful, and fun while offering great drink and dessert ideas.
robert k.
Food is good just not great. Service is great...nice people, smiles all around and they are on top of their game. When we was there a jazz band passed by. Everyone stopped and went outside to watch. That was pretty cool. Guess that happens often. Little bit of a wait to get seated but nothing to bad. Not on Burben St (1street over) so you don't have the notorious burben smell messing with you.
Kevin Duke
Ordered the Crawfish Ravioli. Normally Im a "menu explorer" and try not to get the same thing every time at a given restaurant, but this was so good I cant imagine ordering anything else.
Also witnessed my first "second line" on the street just outside of the restaurant for a wedding. Pretty neat tradition, if you're lucky enough to catch one the restaurant has balconies so you can get a good view to absorb the tradition.
Ginger Hughes
We had lunch at Royal House today. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye which came with french fries and I had the fish plate that came with fries, slaw and jalapeno hush puppies. This was the best meal we've had in New Orleans and Alexis, our server was the best. The steak was cooked with butter and garlic and was juicy and tender even though it was ordered well done. The fish was lightly fried, the hush puppies we just spicy enough and the Cole slaw was was delicious. I had a "Voodoo Juice" with mean and it was very tasty. Treat yourself and visit the Royal House during your visit to New Orleans.
mine pratt
Food was excellent, only 2dessert choices and the bread pudding was the best I've ever eaten. Service, was fast and no wait on a Sunday afternoon. I had a bloody Mary and it was a bad choice. Not spicy at all, hardly any garnishments. Would eat there again but never do drinks there
Eric Olmsted
Food took a long time to be served, had a good flavor, but was not hot. Hush puppy appetizers came out after we were finished with lunch and were also only lukewarm. Staff was really nice. If it was not for the great staff, would have rated as 2 stars.
Kim Letexier
Definitely has alot of culture, beautiful, the taste of new Orleans was delicious. Drinks.....not the best.
Leslie Smith
Great Experience! My girlfriend and I walked in this establishment and sat at the bar. We were greeted by Blake. We ordered the Grilled oysters, Red Beans, smoked sausage and rice. The food was excellent! The service was over the Top! Thank you Blake for your professionalism and attention to detail. You made our experience awesome!
Thank Yall

Marcelo
Delicious food. We waited a bit for a balcony seating. Our waiter suggested their best and we got food that melted in our mouth.
James Holley
Nika was an amazing server. Helpful. Attentive. Nice. Had the chargrill oysters and stuffed mushrooms. Food did not disappoint. 10/10 would recommend
Blake Wasinger
Fantastic Oysters! Great Service with Awesome Views! Highly Recommend!
Russell Poulin
The wait at restaurants in the Quarter can be long. We were told an hour wait. We came back after 40 minutes only to be told that they called our name and scratched it. But we got them to seat us. The environment is bustling. Our waitress was a pure delight. And the food...yum. I had the blackened redfish, which was properly seasoned and not deadly hot as one might find outside NOLA. We enjoyed ourselves.
Alina Vargas
Lovely place, bread putting is the best here. Tables near window. Try their Hurricane drink. Very welcoming staff.
Tabitha Rawls
The charbroiled oysters and the French onion soup was absolutely amazing! Server was lovely and the atmosphere is great! Definitely my new favorite place! Can't wait to go back!
Shanna Bailey
The chargrilled oysters did not disappoint at all. The wait wasn't long and the service was fast.
Shawna Isidore
Bartender was friendly with great personality. Always a great time when I come here and yummy oysters!!!
Christian Pedersen
Great staff, good food, good prices, and a lil' lagniappe to make ya smile!
Dustin Webster
Along with Felix's, Royal House is our favorite spot for Oysters in the French Quarter. The prices are fair, even given the location, and we have always had great experiences with the staff and the service. Sit at the oyster bar if you can!
Tania Esparza
Food is amazing and customer service is great. I had the crawfish ravioli and chargrilled oysters. Definitely recommend.
Frida de Luna
Tender and flavorful chargrilled oysters. Great view from the second floor and enjoyable ambiance
Jesus C
The Royal House has some of the best deserts I like having. Their banana foster cheesecake is amazing, perhaps the best here in New Orleans.
The Jambalaya is also amazing, ordered two orders of Jambalaya.
Max Morris
The food was fantastic, especially the oysters with garlic, butter, and their special sauce
Zoe Skidis
Food was to die for, absolutely amazing! However at such a lovely restaurant there tends to be a wait during dinner time especially on friday and sat nights, but the food is 100% worth the wait. I'd suggest going for lunch or monday-thursday when they're not as busy.
Carl
Was actually kind of disappointed with the food. Got a shrimp po'boy and the shrimp had no flavor. The bread was not fresh at all and was way too hard. The place itself and the service was fine, just wish the food was better.
Antonia Dixon
Chargrilled oysters were a winner! I walked in hungry and walked out on top of the world! The bartenders were hyped and had great recommendations.
Jasmine Kim
The raw oysters were grainy. The cocktail sauce was mediocre. Otherwise, the service was good and the ambiance was nice.
James Krider
Great oysters, and fast service! The balcony is great for people watching and just a comfortable spot to enough a meal and hear the music from the streets below
Robert Williams
This is a good place if you are new to New Orleans. Their Taste of New Orleans dish is a good start to your journey. If in-season, try the chargrilled oysters.
Ali Nikolis
We were shocked to be seated almost immediately despite the crowds. We sat upstairs at the bar. We were greeted by the bartender immediately, and we started looking through the menu.
We started with drinks - I ordered a Bloody Mary, they use the BEST Bloody Mary Mix that I swear by - Zing Zang! I was happy already. My friend ordered a French 75 and wanted something added to it - the bartender had to problem running downstairs to get him what he wanted. He was hospitable and happy to get us whatever we wanted.
I ordered the Oyster Duo - Sample both of the oyster favorites: Oysters Rockefeller and Oysters Royale. Oyster Rockefeller are Louisiana oysters with sauteed spinach, bacon, sambuca, and baked to a golden brown. Oyster Royale are Louisiana oysters topped with their seafood stuffing and baked to bubbly perfection.
My friends ordered the Taste of New Orleans Entree. It was a sampling of the city's most famous dishes: Chicken & Andouille Jambalaya, Crawfish Etouffee and Chicken and Andouille Gumbo. They loved it! I also ordered a side of Red Beans and Rice - because why not? They did not disappoint!
The service was great -- every employee I saw was engaging with guests like they were hosting them in their own homes. It was excellent hospitality -- and I've found the bar to be set quite high in New Orleans.
Angela Rigdon
Excellent Bloody Mary, subject matter expert (SME) female bar tenders that morning, but camera shy, I didn't see why she had a beautiful smile.
Megan Below
We tried a variety of different menu items and everything was fantastic! The shrimp was some of the best I've ever had. The hospitality was great too. I'd definitely recommend.
Quenetta Arceneaux
Tasty apple martini. Fresh open air bar nice on a spring day.
Miriam Zaga
The oysters and the salads are better in Galveston this oysters were salty but the service is excelent and the people super nicemice the place is nice
Aric Anderson
Great meal, nice staff...but definitely understaffed (just like everywhere lately). Stunning views from the upstairs dining area.
William Schlueter
Had the crab claws app and the fried chicken club. Both were great.
Tiquesa “Ty” Wilkerson
Great food and atmosphere. Minus 1 star for waiting 10min after sitting before server arrived.
Wei-Cheng Chen
Nice seafood and oyster. Local brand draft beer is also awesome. Definitely will come again next time.
Jennifer Regen
A little bit of a wait, but worth it. Ask for Courtney to wait on you. She's as phenomenal as the food. Asked her what was good and she was spot on!
Jill Thompson
Great meal! My husband and I shared an alligator appetizer and the crawfish ravioli. Both were awesome choices
Stephanie G
Grilled oysters and crawfish ravioli. You can't go wrong. Amazing food. Wait staff is awesome too. All smiles.
David Li
We enjoyed the food especially the crawfish ravioli. Only downside is the slow service. We waited for about half an hour for out appetizer to come.
Joshua
Eh, overall not really that impressed. They served my beer in a solo cup. It was $10 per beer for a 12oz beer. The food was super expensive for the quantity you get tho the quality was superb. Service was average. Not outstanding, but not by any means poor. I would just expect more for $90 than what I got. Imagine going to a restaurant that's supposed to be high end and the only thing high end is the prices and the atmosphere (except the cups).
Victorious1
Amazing from the front door to table service! Food came out and was amazing and large portion size!
Tara
They were very nice for accommodating our request for not sitting by the open window (seems like Americans enjoy being cold). However, the drinks were watered down. I requested that the oysters be made with breadcrumbs but was denied…not sure why it could not be added because they added it to my pasta. Recommend skipping the bread pudding. Overall the experience was OK, I will give them a pass because they were understaffed as many restaurants are during this busy season in New Orleans, but it was not up to par.
Tyrus Twaddle
Best chargrilled oysters in NOLA!! Light butter sauce and not over done!! Excellent!
Brenda Taege
Sat on balcony had great food and server Nirobe L. Waa fantastic.
vanessa antoniou
We sat for an early drink and a light bite. We ordered a beer and a cocktail, the crab claws and an oyster platter. The waitress was polite but not very professional, as she forgot one of the two plates and we had to remind it to her. The cocktail was awful, the oysters where good and the crab claws plate was AMAZING. They should also clean the place a little bit better.
Tatiana Panova
The place is very good but the food was a little greasy then definitely not suitable for dieters the cocktails were amazing bartender very cheerful and perky.
MARY PEN
Excellent chicken and sausage gumbo and delicious char-broiled oysters. Friendly and attentive service as well!
Christy Bark
Wonderful food and service! Highly recommend the oyster rockefeller and the taste of New Orleans. The drinks are nice and strong and they'll give you a to-go cup!
Sheila Jackson
The wait was long because it was Memorial Day weekend, but the staff were amazing. They offered to go drinks to all who were waiting in line and once seated the waiter was amazing. He gave great recommendations on food choices. I never liked oysters before but I tried the char grilled oysters. They were excellent. All of our food was excellent including dessert. This restaurant is a must visit when traveling to New Orleans.
Tasha Gibbs
Food is delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly, shrimp was tender and crawfish delicious. All seasoned very well.
Also, sitting on the balcony is a huge plus! We were able to watch the streets, see horses pass by and hear the music.
Customer service is also very nice, we were greeted by a very upbeat, smiley host and our sever was super sweet. We feel welcomed ☺️
Julie Bondank
Getting seated was an issue. We just wanted to sit at the bar. There were plenty of open seats but the hostess gave excuses that didn't make sense...the corner of the bar was closed and the other end dirty. We waited quite awhile for a bar seat. The bartender was great. The oysters had not been properly prepared. The stuff mushrooms were room temp. The Ravioli was delicious.
Alexander V.
Came here with my wife on our anniversary trip. Larryione, our server, was amazing! She was very friendly, prompt, and took good care of us. A very pleasant dinner overlooking Royal street. I had the oyster BLT po boy and my wife had the shrimp and grits; both were delicious. Overall a very enjoyable dinner.
Elizabeth Moscoso Anderson
This was where my husband and I had our first dinner on vacation in New Orleans and it did not disappoint. Start with the oyster rockefeller and try the Taste of New Orleans. The Chicken & Andouille Jambalaya, Crawfish Etouffée and Chicken and Andouille Gumbo are to.die.for. I would not recommend what we had for dessert (red velvet pie), but that would not deter me from coming again!
Daniel Baruffi
Get the bloody Mary! Oysters we're excellent and so was the spinach salad with scallops! Service was professional. Great for a get together, or casual lunch.
Krysten Suarez
Oysters were a knockout, red fish main not as much. The fish was pretty overcooked and dry, but the sides were on point. Nice atmosphere
The Cookie Project
Good food! Great bloody marries!!
kellie Broderick
The oysters are the bomb, so good. I tried alligator for the first time and it was yummy. Great atmosphere, lots of people around, service was wonderful. Best Oysters around
Mahy Helal
Food is great! They’ve a long wait line tho so make sure you make it there early in time to put your name. We got a table by the terrace on the second floor and it was beautiful 🤩
Thomas Frommweiler
Fried fish and shrimp were good but the gumbo was quite bland.
Service was the bigger issue as we got our drinks (3 beers and 2 cocktails) after we got our mains, 30 minutes after ordering them.
Colette Robinson
Sometimes the service is slow but the food and drinks are beyond superb. Always a must when I visit New Orleans. Amazing crawfish etouffee.
JSC
My wife and I are from the area and have eaten at most of the restaurants in the quarter over the years. Can not believe we have never eaten at the Royal House. Charbroiled oysters were excellent. We usually go to Drago’s, but did not feel like walking to the Hilton where they’re located. We liked these more. Also had fried alligator and shrimp & grits. Both were excellent. Service was also very good. We now have a new place to go, especially for our oysters.
Der Timm
Nice, but nothing you’d remember years after your time spent there. Fairly touristic as well, but the prices are fair and the waiters friendly. Those two aspects alone seem to qualify for 4 stars in that area surprisingly.
Pat Duangurai
Nice place for a oyster bar. Drink was ok.
Teri Conti-Van Gelder
Wonderful charbroiled oysters, etouffee, po boys and jambalaya.
Craig Martin
Great experience and good food.
Wyetta Robinson Oquendo
We went to eat here for brunch and the food was superb!! We loved it so much that we made an order to go later that same night for dinner. The dinner order was not right and it was poor quality. I then walked back to the restaurant to speak with the manager. Neil was the manager and he was a gentleman. The order was corrected and he was the sweetest person and took care of my complaint. Food and atmosphere is wonderful, servers are pleasant but so so so very very slow.

The food is SO good and service is excellent. I hated grits prior to dining here. Consider me a fan now

The chargrilled oysters with crab& bacon are to die for. Will be back just for them. A personal favorite.
Sasha Campbell
The food was great and so was the sazerac I had. Only gave it 4 stars because the staff could've been more attentive.

Long wait to be served, but the food was scrumptious. I'm guessing with COVID restrictions just lifting, the Easter rush was a bit challenging for kitchen and FOH staff to nail, so maybe the speed of service will improve as folks get their groove back.

A tasty bloody Mary, with pickled green beans and olives. I wish it was served in a glass rather than disposable cup, and it could use a good mixing. But perfectly spicy and savory. The oysters are delicious and served with toasted bread for sopping up the garlic parmesan butter. The trio of gumbo, jambalaya, and etouffe let us taste the best of New Orleans without overdoing the portions. I love the gumbo- it's spicy and not as heavy as I thought it would be. Try this place out and sit on the balcony!

Where to start...drinks were awesome. The staff was amazing. The food was perfect. Thank you guys for the fun experience.

Fabulous food and atmosphere. The a/c runs, but the shutters are also open to keep a cross breeze. Our server was fantastic, the guy at the front was strict though. We had the shrimp and grits and the spinach artichoke dip. Food came out quickly and the drinks stayed filled!
Marta Assolari
We had oysters and the platter with the traditional plates. All of them were delicious, great atmosphere on the terrace
Marie Champion-Sonnier
Great place for fresh oysters! Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and we enjoyed the people watching. The corner frequently hosts Darth Vader doing interpretive dancing.
Jeff Crites
Wonderful food. Try the alligator, crab claws, and oysters.
Anthony Omes
Ok, I really don't hand out many 5 stars.
But for oysters they knock it out the park.
But personally, I'd prefer they didn't rinse the oysters once they open them. If you can't shuck an oyster without getting shell in it you need to do something else.
When you rinse an oyster once it's shucked you remove half the flavor.

Delicious food, couldn't get enough of it. Love from Dallas

Great Oysters!!
Great food!!
Recent visit was even better. Friendly greeter at the door and very attentive waitress.

Very good food.

The wine and oyster selection is superb, especially the chargrilled ones.

Great oysters and nice atmosphere. Crab claws were just... OK.

Beautiful restaurant located on the corner. Definitely recommend to anyone local or visiting!!

Excellent food. Crawfish Etoufee done very well. The blackened redfish was made to perfection. One of the members of our party had a shellfish allergy and, in a place where shellfish is so prolific, they went above and beyond to ensure it was prepared safely.
Robert Matschiner
One of the iconic restaurants in the French Quarter. Diners won't be disappointed.

Good restaurant, the oysters were amazing. The services was amazing and great conversations with the bartender. However, I would not recommend the crab legs here, for the price they weren't great. Seasoned very well, like no other but they small and looks a little old. I'd recommend sticking with the shrimp and oysters.

Nice atmosphere, great location, Good Eats & Drinks! Can't go wrong here!!🥂🍹🍤 …

Food was great but the view was even better from the second floor balcony!

Kevin the bartender was the absolute best!!!!!!

By far the best meal we had in New Orleans. Derrick was absolutely outstanding. He was very attentive but not pushy. I had the ravioli and my husband had the chicken salad. Both were well worth the wait at the door.
Peter Pena
The finest dining experience I've ever had in New Orleans, starting with the host, a very knowledgeable and professional man named John. John had realistic averages about the wait to be seated, he was honest with the recommendations for food, and he was friendly and good natured when dealing with impatient patrons.
As for the food, this restaurant has the best jambalaya I've ever tasted, and the Taste of New Orleans is the best thing to get when you're wanting to have a little bit of everything. The sweet tea was perfectly brewed as well. And completing the experience with the Brownie a la Mode is a necessity as well.

We were tired, it was pouring rain, and they were starting to close, but they let us be the final table of the night. And the customer service was above and beyond the entire time we were there. The Spinach Salad and the French Onion soup were fantastic. I had the Taste of New Orleans and really enjoyed the combination of food. Super service.

This is a tough place to review during a pandemic, but I'm going to go for it. The wait staff and hostesses are doing everything they can to tread water and it's obviously so difficult for everything to go well. My pregnant wife and I waited 1.5 hours for a table and what we ate was fantastic and wonderful, but it was not ideal.
To start, this OYSTER BAR did not have any grilled or broiled oysters available to us at all. Only the half dozen raw oysters were available to order due to unknown reasons. This caveat was not told to us before we waited over an hour for a table.
Okay, okay, so that's a problem but we moved on and got the artichoke spinach dip and the market price shrimp and crab leg combo. The seafood in this dish was absolutely fabulous and done so so well. The dipping sauce was outrageously good as well. But we did not have napkins, silverware, or a crab leg cracker at that time. There was obviously a wish for us to have these essential items and effort was made to make that possible, but it took some time.
We then got the bread pudding which was pretty darn good other than the obviously burnt edges that were inedible.
Truth be told, I would come back in the future. But this place has some unusual problems going on right now that is totally and unquestionably due to short staffing and COVID panic. I just hope they keep trucking and putting in good work to make this all happen. Best of luck to everyone at Royal House!

I understand that we're in the middle of Mardi gras, but the food took almost an hour to come out and it was cold
Taste was good, not the best, oceana's was way better

Fabulous service, tasty food, and a wonderful experience.
Marc Alnwick
Food was excellent. I recommend the chargrilled oysters.

Excellent service, great food and great local ambiance close to many local, hoyels and sights. Well worth coming-in for breakfast/brunch on the weekends to enjoy a selection of Eggs Benedict (with crawfish cakes; traditional; Andoui Sausage, etc.). Ask for Jeff at the Oyster Bar or John in yhe Dining Room for a special local treat of service and hospitality.

I was not impressed with the presentation of the food. We ordered a sampler and it was put in small soup cups. They gave us 4 pieces of bread. I assume they meant for it to be toasted, but it just seemed stale. The sampler tasted alright, but there was no clear way to tell what I was eating. I tried to flag down a staff member to explain what I was eating, but no one came by our table until we were done. It tasted better than it looked though. My husband and son seemed to enjoy the raw oysters, but the tray was huge compared to the portion size. My son really seemed to enjoy the po boy he ordered but I don't feel that it was anything special.

We happened upon the Royal House about 1:00 p.m. and we were welcomed at the door by a very friendly Host. He escorted us to a table on the second floor over looking the streets of New Orleans! The service was upstanding and the food delicious and plenty! Thank You!
K Keppley
Friendly service, good food, nice balcony to eat from... what more could you want.
Becca Anderson
Service was great & the hostess was very organized and enthusiastic. The balcony seating was nice, but the value for food is pretty dismal. You definitely pay for the location & atmosphere.

Amazing oysters- Melt in your mouth! Nice ambiance and staff.

Great Food and super waitress. Callie I think.
