Reviews of Miss River

Great restaurant inside the Four Seasons. I went for Sunday brunch and it was definitely a 5-star experience. There’s a live band and the noise level is a 5/5 so don’t expect an intimate quiet conversation. There isn’t anywhere to wait for a table other than the bar or beyond the doors standing in the hotel. Parking is validated. Shrimp and grits were good and fish was seasoned well. The bread and butter left something to be desired but it’s good that you won’t fill up on it. Drinks are generous on the alcohol. The bacon was literally a piece of candy it was so candied.

Amazing space and atmosphere with okay food that was way too expensive. We got the barbeque shrimp, gumbo, vegetable curry with rice, and the whole fish. The only thing that was amazing was the gumbo. The shrimp were good, but there's better elsewhere in New Orleans for cheaper. The curry was fine. The fish was visually amazing but ended up tasting salty without much other flavor. Cocktails were fine. Wine was a pretty good selection but very overpriced. I didn't hate any of the food, but for the price I was disappointed. I love saba so I was looking forward to go here. Overall disappointing.

Absolutely one of the finest restaurants in New Orleans. Our 1st time and definitely not our last. Outstanding service and food. Started with the sweet potato muffins with a variety of toppings. I opted for the Oyster stew which was the best I've ever had. My wife had the crab maison salad. We shared the enormous muffaletta sandwich with truffle fries which was the best decision. Way too much for one person.

Miss River is fantastic. They have a great menu. I had the Four Decades, which is a margarita, the Louisiana BBQ shrimp, and the vegetable curry with blackened shrimp. We got the Fried Chicken for the table. The seasoning and crust were amazing.
Some people in my party had the Pork Chop, a mushroom dish, redfish, collards and hammock, and Emily's red beans and rice. For dessert, you must try the beignets. They also give you some banana foster and chocolate pralines. Yummy 😋

If you are in NOLA you must dine at Miss River! You will be greeted and seated without any long waiting, best French 75 is served here. Oyster soup is the best in town and the whole snapper is so fresh and delicious! Thank you Luis, Andrea, Sara and all the staff! You are the best!

First time dining at Miss River and will definitely return. The employees were engaged and responsive. The food was a tribute to New Orleans and delicious. The owners’ passion for New Orleans and the Mississippi River is evident throughout the restaurant and the menu.
Salt crusted Snapper was 10 out of 10. Baked Alaska culminated a wonderful dinner.
Already booked a return evening in September

Went there today for brunch, the food was good but service not so much. Chanel was helping with our section, she was very nice and checked on us. Our main server was Alice T, I wish I had a better experience with her, she did not smile, introduce herself, review the menu, and maybe spoke to us two times, when we placed our order and when we got the bill. I did not feel welcomed by her. We got the chicken to split, it was delicious and juicy! It came with sauces, not sure what they were because Alice didn’t tell us, just placed it in front of us and left, they were ok, some sort of honey. I don’t mind spending a lot for good food, but I do feel that the service should match. For a restaurant in the Four Seasons, I expect better service than Waffle House.

Don’t miss Miss River in NOLA! After traveling throughout the entire U.S. I rate Miss River the most yummy of all! The blue crab au gratin is world class EPIC! Your taste buds are going to love you if you visit Miss River! Everything is amazing here, food, service and sparkling decor.
Andrea, Brian and Jet will make your visit extra amazing. I wish I could allow Miss River and it’s spectacular staff six or seven stars!

Amazing meal thanks to Terrance. We had made the reservations well in advance and when the time finally came we almost couldn't make it. We weren't really in the right mood for a great dinner but we went with all the recommendations Terrance made and had an extraordinary meal that completely changed our week. The space is lovely but the food, particularly the fried chicken with the red pepper flake sauce is now something that I'll crave forever. Hope to see yal again soon!

We had a beautiful meal- the food, service, and ambiance on Christmas Day were impeccable and exactly at the level you expect from a Four Seasons and any fine dining restaurant. The foh and boh teams here are doing an incredible job. It was well worth the price point.
Every dish was mind blowing except the Crudo- it was still delicious but maybe lacking a bit of acid.
The duck clay pot rice, bbq gulf prawns, crab gnocchi, and fried pork chop were incredible entrees that we consider highlights of our week long trip to New Orleans. The gnocchi was so good my partner who typically doesn’t prefer Italian food still talks about it. My favorites were the pork chop and clay pot rice.
Thank you for hosting us on Christmas and cementing a new holiday tradition for my partner and I!

Potato sea salt roll was so soft it melted in my mouth as soon as I bit into it. It was so out of this world i would do anything to eat this again. The food, every single item ordered was top notch quality. Even plain white rice was so tasty. Definitely recommend eating here.

his was one of the most anticipated restaurant openings this year. Restaurants are still proving that even amid an ongoing pandemic, they are still driving innovation. This extravert is here for the new dishes, expanding my wine vocabulary and seeing amazing views.
Ok, so review time! My visit to Miss River inside Four Seasons New Orleans was nothing short of incredible. I absolutely loved the Food Stage where chefs extravagantly plate our signature dishes. Very attentive service was paid to us! The server brought wine to the table on a few occasions
The whole covered buttermilk fried chicken was sumptuous and plush. It was served with dipping sauces. This dish was my favorite
Other dishes we enjoyed:
Crab Au Gratin
Gumbo
Red beans
Salad
Cake with a sparkler was the absolute best..I would get any cake on the menu
My overall review of Alon Shaya’s love letter to LOUISIANA is a welcome addition to the New Orleans area. My vote is it is the hottest and most luxurious restaurant on the scene now!

I have had Miss River on my list for months now; and I'm so happy with my experience, I'm already planning on returning.
I walked in and immediately was sat, greeted by name, and introduced to my server, Jonny. Jonny went above and beyond to ensure I had the best working lunch possible.
I ordered the red beans and rice, it also comes with fried chicken. I hate writing this out of fear my MawMaw will disown me, but they were the best red beans of my life, y'all. They were creamy, great spice level, and the rice was perfectly done, as well. I know it's Ash Wednesday, but there was a party in my mouth!
Tyrone was always sure to be friendly, too, and though I didn't order a drink this time, miss Andrea was keeping the bar lively and had everyone well-hydrated!
I do not have a single bad thing to say about my experience. Everything is well priced, food is served quickly, and the service was phenomenal.
Go to Miss River for lunch and ask for Jonny. I'm not steering you wrong!

By far the best food I’ve had in New Orleans. The redfish was just out of this world. It was so good I ate so much, my BELT POPPED. My regards to chef Andrew. Dude is an absolute legend. Can’t wait to comeback and enjoy the food again. Please keep doing what you’re doing!

Service great and everyone is kind. Gumbo roux was too dark. Hopefully management will see about fixing that. Fried chicken seasoned good but not over seasoned. Very nice atmosphere

We went with our neighbors for Saturday brunch with an 11:30 reservation. The dining room wasn't terribly busy at that time, but filled fast. Since there were four of us, we ordered a few things to share, along with cocktails. I've read the reviews about the prices being set at a fine dining scale, while the food is anything but. The point of the restaurant is to pay homage to the flavors of Louisiana. It may not be for everyone, but it hits the mark it aims for and I respectfully disagree with those reviews.
Service was prompt and friendly, with a number of people checking on us throughout the course of the meal. Christine was our server, and she was delightful. Very knowledgeable about the menu, sourcing, etc. There's nothing better than a professional server!
Our order was: local green salad, beignets and ham, a side of praline bacon and whole fried chicken.
I rarely rave about a salad, but this one was delicious. Crispy and fresh, with the merliton being just the right thing to put it over the top. Beignets (without the sugar, fear not) and ham consists of delicious beignets, prosciutto, Gorgonzola dolce, and a trio of sauces, honey, spicy chili crunch and persillade, a Cajon and Creole staple. Absolutely spot on. The bacon? It's praline bacon, y'all!
I'm remiss with photos, but we did manage to get a picture of the fried whole chicken before it was carved. The presentation is... whimsical (see photo)... but is is deliriously tasty. The server brings it to the table whole for its photo op before it's taken to a carving station. The meat is tender and juicy, helped by a squeeze of lemon juice to really make it pop.
I won't mention all the cocktails I tasted, but I will make special mention of the Lafayette Square, a delicious and aromatic cocktail with gin, St. Germain, Lillet Blanc, lemon, and orange blossom water. Kind of perfect.
I am very much looking forward to going for dinner or lunch. It's a new favorite for me!

The food is beautifully plated and presented.. However for the price, there are far better restaurants in the city. The chandelier bar is a beautiful location to hang out and enjoy great beverages. Perhaps the most amazing part of visiting the 4 seasons is the staff! Without exception every one of the people I interacted with was was excited to be working there and greeted you warmly and earnestly
W
Service: attentive, amazing
Crab maison: best thing on the menu, so delicious
Buttermilk chicken: ok
Green beans: absolutely amazing
Cocktail: Late check out was delicious, little palermo was not
Would eat here again: Yes

Service and food were outstanding! We had a large party and ordered family style. The bread…OMG…the bread and butter! I would go just for that! ::::chefs kiss:::::

Seriously, probably the best dining experience I have had in awhile and that was lunch. I cannot wait for dinner. Colleague and I went for holiday lunch and in a word....PHENOMENAL. Apart from the hefty price tag, I cannot understand the low star reviews....perhaps bsh group shedding salty tears because this is LA elevated cooking and beyond. We had the blue crab gratin....cream over cheese in all the good ways with delicious buttery crackers made in house I'm sure. Next was salad giardinara wedge with parmesan and deliciousness plated as a split between us. Partner had the oyster poboy that was generous and overflowing. I had the soft shell crab blt which was a transformative experience. The toast was a mere vehicle for all the grilled buttery goodness pillowing the juiciest of crab. Slab if bacon, aoili, magic. We both had truffle fries which ...do not pass up the truffle shavings. O.m.g. I can't even. We were both bursting at the seams with half sandwiches but couldn't pass up the baked Alaska for four ...I mean 2. It was huge yall. This was not fine dining portions for the weak of heart. My only [only] complaint was the price tag. I mean $60 for a fried chicken? Sixty dollars????? I don't care how many dipping sauces or whether that chicken is the prodigal son of KFC himself. It's a chicken. I can get 100 pcs at mchardys for that and call it a day.
Still. I cannot wait to go back. Get the old fashioned. Trust me.
Nicholas Volkmar
Food and service was phenomenal - our group ended the meal asking each other when we wanted to go back. Not a weak point in the whole meal and great portions. Loved the vibe of the room too, especially the old mirrors. Top to bottom a meal to remember!

Great place for a birthday dinner with our son and family. With all the great restaurants in NO was a bit reluctant with it in the Four Seasons. But the food was delicious across the board and our server Paul was excellent. Enjoyed the whole evening from start to finish.

The good- the atmosphere and space are gorgeous and have a fun vibe, although the music choices are a little much for a restaurant. The blue crab au gratin is delicious.
The not so good- the fried chicken, which is a signature dish, has no seasoning and relies on a sauce (3 are served on the side, none are exceptional). The fries are overcooked and the red beans and rice are fine, but for fine dining they really should be better. I admire what the Shayas have done with other restaurants in New Orleans, but this misses the mark. The drinks are fine but not strong enough to charge $18. You're going to end up spending a lot because it's the four seasons, but you're better off sticking to the appetizer menu until they work out the kinks. Service was professional, but they seemed bothered by guest requests, and they sometimes seemed to forget about the table.

Came here Christmas afternoon for family lunch/dinner. Place is much more old school than I expected, with foie, caviar, version of baked Alaska. Food was rich, but I guess that's to be expected. The fried whole chicken and dirty rice were highlights. Other stuff I guess is par for a Four Seasons restaurant. I think it is worth it for an "occasion" meal, but honestly I don't know if our family will crave the food again.
Keith Sistrunk
Excellent service with great food. Red beans and rice, Blue Crab Au Gratin, Fried Oyster BLT all amazing. Great cocktail list as well.

The restaurant is gorgeous and I've been wanting to come here. We live in Atlanta but really love the other restaurant by the chef owner.
I can't put my finger on it but there are spices used in the cook that do not agree with my palette. Everything is cooked well. The seafood plateau was really beautiful and I liked the oysters, crab salads, but did not care for the spices in the shrimp or crab claws.
The oyster patty was comfort food brought to fine dining. Loved it. The sweet potato rolls were incredible.
The fried chicken and dirty rice both were cooked well but had spices I did not love. The mushroom casserole was good but the sauce felt thinner than i was expecting.
I would go back again as I had really highly anticipated eating here. I think I'll make sure that I talk to the server a bit more about the spices used and navigate a different food path.

I’ve dined at Miss River twice, now. I met a lovely woman named Monica who helped me secure a reservation for my birthday back in October. I wasn’t able to catch her last name. I wish I could thank her for the best meal I’ve ever had in my life. I had the fried chicken, BBQ Shrimp and the baked Alaska. These were some of the best courses I’ve ever had. They were definitely the best fried chicken, bbq shrimp and baked Alaska I’ve ever eaten. I went to the restaurant last night looking forward to another great meal and was able to try the gumbo with potato salad. Once again, top notch. I can’t say enough about the restaurant. I think it’s the best in the city, and I would never turn down an offer to go. Another thing that shouldn’t go unmentioned is the ambiance. The designer did a fantastic job on Miss River. If this review somehow makes it’s way to the young lady named Monica, thanks so much for getting me hooked on Miss River.

Overall, I'd say Miss River was good but not great. I know all restaurants are having issues finding experienced help these days and Miss River seems to be in the same boat. We had a party of 6 in on a Tuesday night and it was fairly busy but not packed. The large-sized seafood platter was good but expensive and not overly plentiful. Drinks were excellent but somewhat slow in coming. We mainly shared small plates other than the steak, which was flavorful but quite fatty. The baked Alaska was well-received but the end of dinner coffee was lukewarm. Have heard similar reviews from my friends that have had dinner here as well. Hopefully time will improve the overall experience, as at this price point, everything really needs to be first-rate.

I’ve been living in NOLA for a year. This is was my absolute favorite dining experience in the whole city. Starting with my Cocktail, an Old Fashioned - it was thee best Old Fashioned I’ve ever had. I know because that’s all I order anywhere I go. We also got the Wagyu Steak, Red Beans & Rice and some eggplant dish. All we’re phenomenal.
Beyond the food, the service and environment could not be beat. Our waiter was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Gave him a 35% tip because I was so impressed.
This is quickly going to be the hottest reservation in town. Get one before the wait list becomes months long.

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! Service and food was amazing! Didn’t realize it was in the four seasons and felt a little underdressed but everyone was very welcoming. Got the oyster soup which was different and just amazing. Also got the soft shell crab blt that was huge and fried perfectly. We didn’t order drinks just ice tea and our drinks were never empty. Can’t recommend it enough.

Fabulous. The food was great but I was expecting something more "shaya".
Had great new Orleans specialties which you can get many places. Muffalota, red beans and rice, oyster stew Etc.
Also, menu was limited. Didn't matter because all the food was great.
They did the food better than most. The oysters en brochette we're better than galatoires.
Prices were very steep and it wasn't easy to find the entrance to the hotel or the restaurant.
The restaurant looks deceivingly like a hotel coffee shop but remember, the food is fabulous.

Best meal we had in New Orleans. Everything was great but this whole deep fried chicken. My lord!!!
Nicole Bowman
Outstanding ! Expected a few hiccups with such a new restaurant, but the food and service were amazing. We had the Blue Crab and Oyster Patty for appetizers, both were wonderful. We had the ribeye and mushroom casserole for dinner with a side of red beans, everything came out hot and flavorful 😊 great service from the server, server assistant, and manager. Would definitely come back !

Excellent experience! The Brunch was fantastic and so were the drinks. There’s a unique freshness to everything. The black truffle and parmesan egg toast was bursting with flavor.
I must admit that I was a bit skeptical at first. New Orleans cuisine is a simulacra: it’s more expectation of certain tastes rather than it is about the tastes themselves. Shaya is a master. I was worried, though, that his true talent — balancing subtle and earthy flavors with a farm-to-table freshness — would be diminished in an attempt to appeal to tourist sensibilities (ask Judy Bigelow visiting from suburban Indiana to try anything at Saba and she’d probably just stick with water). After all, every restaurant in New Orleans has their version of shrimp and grits or BBQ shrimp, so I was more worried that Shaya was going to be curtailed by the gatekeepers of New Orleans tourism. Perhaps he is — the restaurant is, undoubtedly, New Orleans, a bit more refined, though still in the shadow of the packaged “New Orleans tourist experience”. Though its saving grace is Shaya who understands what he’s doing and doesn’t play down to the task at hand. It’s a great experience overall and also deserves returns.
The staff, in addition, was A-plus. We felt very respected, had all questions answered, and were greeted with smiles from everyone.

My parents were so well taken care of at Miss River for their anniversary! The food and drinks were amazing and the staff went above and beyond to make them feel special! Highly recommend!

We were a party of 4 who had dinner on February 9th. My parents were in town and we decided to do something new & fancy for their last night. The food was 5 stars; decor is 5 stars; service is maybe barely 2 stars. The service made the price point of the experience almost not worth it. If I go back it would be hesitantly, and I would not recommend any out-of-towners I meet through work to go.
Upon our arrival the host was not particularly warm or friendly, but he did kindly show us to our table and give us directions to the restroom which is tucked behind an art deco mirrored door.
The first person to introduce himself to us was our waiters assistant (I cannot remember his name). He kindly asked if we would prefer sparkling or still water. We opted for sparkling. Throughout the night we were served both depending on his mood. At one point, one person in our party had a mixture of both. Halfway through our main course water was no longer served at all.
It took about 7 minutes for our waiter to come introduce himself. A very soft spoken, and nice person - Sheldon. I will say right off the bat it was obvious that this is his first fine dining serving gig. He has the potential to be an incredible head waiter, however he is completely out of his depth and needs some mentoring by other staff.
Our drink orders were taken and glasses filled. 3 out of the 4 started with wine while I had the Rose Colored Glasses Mocktail. Wine & drinks were delicious. This was the last time anyone at the table was asked if they would like a beverage. After wine glasses were empty for a few minutes and appetizers were being brought out we asked the waiter assistant if he would either send Sheldon over so we could order wine or if we could order from him. He accepted our order, but clearly didn't know what he was doing because Sheldon came over to clarify. That round of drinks was absent from our final bill because they both clearly forgot to enter it into the POS.
As appetizers started to finish plates were being taken before the entire table was finished. Food wise: The BBQ shrimp is enough to split with 6/7 large shrimp. And the seafood service for two was delightful.
As soon as the appetizers were off the table the mains were being brought out. They cleared several pieces of cutlery, but didn't bring replacements. I had to wave down waiters for two knives. In addition, I had to asked that the hot towels that were brought out also be cleared. During the dinner - another waiter who was dealing with his own table came and filled wine glasses and water because our duo were ignoring us.
I don't recall if anyone ever really checked on us during dinner. As the one person not drinking an alcoholic beverage I started stealing water glasses from the other folks at the table. The food was OUTSTANDING. We had the Blue Crab Gratin, Red Beans, Blackened Snapper, Ribeye Steak, and Redfish Courtboullion. All was wildly delicious, and those red beans were to die for. The portion size was huge. Everything was wonderfully spiced and fresh.
Throughout dinner we had to tell our waiter assistant that we were not ready to have our plates cleared since we were taking a moment to eat. During dinner we never saw Sheldon. He was noticeably absent. Finally, we said we were done and told our waiter assistant that we were in need of some boxes. He cleared the empty dishes and then never brought the boxes. He was back out doing a table setting at another table. Sheldon then came by and asked if we wanted dessert. We declined but asked for the boxes again. He cleared 3 of the 4 plates and came back with it all nicely boxed up.
The bill total was wrong because no one rang in our bottle of wine. We gestured at a floor manager who thanked us for our honesty. He returned the corrected bill but neglected to ask us how everything was or if we enjoyed our dinner. After that it took nearly 15 minutes for someone to take our card. We finally had to wave down Sheldon to focus and let us pay. Lots of missed opportunities from a service perspective for $150/person.

Miss river had amazing staff that looked after us at every turn from start to finish. We came to see (and delight on) whatever this full chicken art face piece was:) and it was worth it! Our waiter was very playful, Sarah fwend:))) and we delightfully called the clay pot chicken butt dish a masterpiece. Look forward to dining again soon:)

This was an experience! I enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere. The chicken was beyond: moist, flavorful, and filling. There was enough with the appetizers, the main course and the small sweet edibles at the end were a tasty treat.
Definitely a great place to enjoy during any visit to NOLA
