Reviews of Galatoire's

We booked a reservation for dinner so we’re seated immediately.
The ambience of the place is definitely beautiful but loud. Something to know if you aren’t expecting it.
I was aware since I read the reviews. Our server was very friendly and helpful with suggestions.
All the food was tried was very delicious. Would recommend the duck gumbo and shrimp etoufee.

Everything was absolutely amazing and beautiful! I celebrated my 41st birthday there. I reserved a private room. They made sure all of my needs were met! The food was absolutely delicious!! I definitely recommend and I will be back!!

Was there for a Rehearsal dinner for my best friends wedding. Didn't get any food pics but I will say The Bread Pudding is the BEST I've ever eaten. Their Bartender "Ace" was amazing. Although they didn't normally make Sangria, she had all the ingredients necessary and Rocked it!

Great place for fancy pants steaks. Wear a suit / nice dress. Wine list was massive. We ordered a few appetizers which were delicious, including potatoes/eggplant and escargot. The filet mignon was tender and well cooked. Sides were alright, nothing too special. Service was great, staff was friendly and helpful.

Wow. How have I missed out on finding this place until now?! At Jackson Square, an artist suggested that we try Galatoire’s. I highly suggest that you do too. From walking in the door, we were greeted kindly and were led into the dining room and allowed to choose whichever table we wanted. The service just kept getting better, being served by Martine. Her suggestions were on point. Some of my family members had the daily selection of fish, while I enjoyed the crab au gratin. The best way I can describe the crab au gratin is a creamy mac and cheese, but sub the macaroni for crab meat. So delicious. I couldn’t stop pinching off a piece of the French loaf and spooning portions onto it. The desserts were also amazing. We tried the key lime tart and black bottom pecan pie. You’re missing out if you haven’t been to this restaurant.

First experience at Galatoire’s and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. Started off with fried oysters and crab maison - both excellent. For my entree I got the trout almandine which was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of almonds and sauce. I finished with a cup of coffee and the bread pudding which was a fantastic end to an amazing meal.

A classic right on bourbon street, jacket not included. (Gotta wear a jacket) the service top notch, the oyster Rockefeller was tasty. The red fish and light sauce was cooked just right and nice light flavor. Crazy good hollandaise super thick.

This place is absolutely amazing. Our waiter was Charlie. Charlie was amazing! Attentive, funny, all you could hope for. It was worth the visit just for Charlie! The food was fantastic! The drinks... the best on Bourbon Street. Mic drop. Even the classics were great! One of the few restaurants that live up to the hype. I would give 10 stars if I could!

Incredible food and service from our server, Skip made our experience here amazing. Skip had excellent recommendations for us and was attentive and quick with his service. Food was decadent and delicious. 100% recommend.

I went there twice after it being highly recommended. I had the foie Gras and the toast on the bottom was overwhelmingly sweet, and the only dessert wines available were twice the price of the dish. I had to try the green oysters, and I not impressed. I saw some amazing other dishes, but I ate the whole time I was in NOLA, so I just tried to find unique things. I wouldn't order either again, but it was nice to find an upscale place in the heart of debauchery!

Our server managed our entire experience flawlessly. I have been waiting to come here since I booked our tickets to New Orleans and this not only matched, but exceeded our expectations. The turtle soup and escargot should not be missed. The boullibaisse was amazing.

My wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary here. The food was WONDERFUL. We tried the oysters rockefeller, shrimp remoulade, lamb chops, a redfish with crab yvonne sauce, asparagus with hollandaise sauce and the lyonnaise potatoes. NOTHING was less than perfect. The staff were friendly and very attentive. They were excellent. I would highly suggest this restaurant.

Galatoire’s is a favorite restaurant in New Orleans, and one of our favorite restaurants in the world. It’s storied, over 100 years old, it’s Creole cuisine at its finest, the dining room is elegant but unpretentious and the service has always been exemplary. Last night we had the fortune of being served by Rushell, a 26 year veteran of the restaurant, and she was delightful.
If you’re looking for a Michelin rated restaurant, this is not the restaurant for you. But if you love history, and a menu that’s almost identical to the 100 year menu that launched Galatoire’s, and you love service from a staff, many of whom have been there for 25 years and up, you must dine here. It’s a unique experience, and last night, with her charm and warmth and joy for serving, Rushell made our evening so special.

We had booked for lunch, and on arrival were promptly seated by the host. After reading on the dress codes.. it was laughable that some patrons were in gym attire and some wore denim. Now to the fine dining experience.. they do have an exhaustive wine list, but no sommelier to do a pairing of food with wine. On ordering entrees one of which was a humble potato soufflé.. after placing the order we were told upon waiting that they were out! We ordered the entrees which was red and lemon fish sautéed in meunière sauce. Both were well prepared. Overall a passable affair, have had better fine dining experience in other restaurants.

Fantastic dinner at Galatoire’s! My wife and I snagged a Saturday night reservation and it lived up to the hype. Our server, Brian, was outstanding. Ask for him and your night will be fabulous. We started with oysters Rockefeller and the foie gras. Both were delicious but I would probably go for double order of foie gras next time. It was that good. My wife had the red fish with the crab Yvonne topping and I had the lamb chops on Brian’s recommendation. Also had a side of portobello shrooms. We finished up with bread pudding and the table side flaming cafe brulot. The food was so good, I forgot to take proper pictures of it all. Come and be ready to be impressed.

Galatoire’s has been in the city for yeeears! Kermit and I decided to go a few weeks ago. Everything was perfect. I hear the duck is a popular dish— I ordered salmon. They sing happy birthday to a lady, she spotted Kermit and asked where the trumpet was, lol. We all sing happy birthday to her and it was so nice. I’ve always loved Galatoire’s.

Periodically, you have to visit old classics. At Galatoires it's not really about the food, though it's fine, it's about the experience; the white tiles floors, Bourbon Street, the obligatory robust happy birthdays sung at the top of their lungs...
Which is good because it's only good food, not great. The overly salted and buttered food is a bit much. The steak is undercooked and the fish is overcooked. But they have items that no other restaurant carries, like the sweetbreads which were perfect.
Furthermore, the pricing seems very reasonable. But this may be why the service can suffer a little as there are many workers who don't understand restaurants etiquette such as when to fill glasses, remove bread plates or generally clear.
All said, still a must do.
Amy Munley
Sonny, our waiter, was excellent. His meal and cocktail recommendations made our meal. Cute old spot with good food and old world feel.

This place is really something else, It's hard to explain, but it's really different from anywhere I've ever been.
The atmosphere, the food, the service. Exquisite!
A big shoutout to Martine who is just the loveliest waitor, you can trust her recommendations 100%!

Sonnets will be written about the crab stuffed eggplant. Unreal! The gumbo was also scrape the dish good

Check out the Oyster Bar, Derick will be there Shucking the Oysters and entertaining you at the same time.
Call him "Lucky" and tell him that Lucky sent you, He'll get it and Laugh. :)~
Natalie Floth
The foie gras and escargot we're very good. The filet mignon was outstanding. They also make very good strong drinks.
Seth P
The best fish I may have ever had. That said, I can't help but feel their pricing and serving sizes take the location into account a bit too much. That said, easily the best food on Bourbon.

What a fantastic place and great experience! Came for a work holiday dinner and they set us up upstairs and gave us the works. Our waitress was a native NO resident and shared such great personality, stories, and context for our evening. She even let us out on their balcony which has such a great view - worth the trip all around and will be back next time I'm in town!!

The greeter and the wait staff were best I have ever had. The flaming coffee table side next door was a great experience and was one of my favorite dining experiences ever. We even met a local from Louisiana and talked to table next to us celebrating a Birthday. After talking back and forth to table table we found out we had ties to NC where I grew up in Johnston County. Truly a great experience and friendly place with great food to share ideas and stories with the locals. Turtle soup brought me back to grandfathers soup, only better.
Ben Tran
The form foie gras and maple leaf duck are amazing.
Will definitely try one more time!!!
Matthew Milner
It was an experience to be sure. The service was outstanding. I'm very glad that we made reservations and were seated upstairs. (It was entirely too loud downstairs.) The premeal drinks were superb, the seafood gumbo was fantastic, and the bottle of white we chose was excellent. But the entrees took a long time to come out and were just okay and the presentation wasn't great. For the price I was expecting a little more in that regard. My shrimp au vin dish was just okay. I had to ask for more bread to sop it up because it was basically runny soup with shrimp. The trout special had a lot of flavor, but really looked like it was dumped on a plate in a hurry and it looked like it was missing something. Perhaps it was supposed to have a sauce or something to bring it together. I don't know, it just looked off, but tasted very good. The desert was delicious. So, we spent a lot of money for a lunch that left me wanting a bit more from the mains.

Sometimes famous landmark restaurants take their reputation for granted, and simply rely on their established reputation to bring in the customers.
That is not the case with Galatoire. The ambience, service, food, and value were all excellent during out recent visit. We would definitely go back each time when visiting New Orleans!
Amanda Blake
Incredible food and wonderful experience!! Great classy spot for an anniversary, birthday, or other special occasion. Many people in our group said the steak was the best they'd ever had, and I HIGHLY recommend the pecan pie for dessert.
Callum Laing
Our server, Martine, was absolutely fabulous. Food was very tasty and looked gorgeous as well. There's something a little bit special about having to dress up and make an effort for dinner. Well done for insisting on maintaining the "jackets for men" tradition. Loved it!
Angela Ramos
After much anticipation of eating at the famed Galatoire's, it was a bit of a let down. We always knew of the waiting to get in because they didn't do reservations, but we were greeted with a bit of a reprimand that we didn't have a reservation. We were assured that they would seat us, but we should know to call for reservations. Everything followed in that bumpy course. Appetizers and entrees were delicious. Soup and salad were not the best we've had in New Orleans. Desserts were split, bread pudding was delicious, but when the shell on the Key Lime tart was broken, the filling ran out like soup. Bus service was spot on, clearing, water refills, etc. Waiter was a bit distracted and inattentive. We left wondering if this was all due to us choosing to partake of the seasonal REVILLON offering. In all, we enjoyed our meal, but many other restaurants have been so much more enjoyable.

The most exquisite place I have ever had the pleasure of having dinner in. I came here for my 1st year anniversary, and it looks like we're gonna make that an annual tradition. Best restaurant in New Orleans! Thank you for such an excellent night.

Galatorie's is a must visit if in New Orleans. Hands down one of the top restaurants in the city. The service is amazing and the food is to. Brian was our server, and he took great care of us during our dinner. We had filet and salmon, and both were excellent. The wedge salad is great also. Thank you for providing a great dining experience during our visit to New Orleans for New Years.

This may not be the cheapest place in New Orleans, but worth every penny if you appreciate quality !!! I dined there 24 years ago with my wife and now again with my family, and simply the best restaurant in town, and presumably for 500 km around here. Should we have the privilege to come back to NOLA, we will most certainly not miss the opportunity to dine here again. I had Oysters Rockefeller, and then Black Drum with Crab meat - amazing!!! I also tasted my kids and my wife’s stuff and it was all equally great. Not to forget a wine list that is truly outstanding for French wines (my family is from Burgundy, so I know what I am talking about). Deserts - I could try a bite of six different ones - were also excellent, as was the coffee flambée. Last but not least, don’t miss the Soufflée Potatoes as a starter - it simply is the most elegant way of tasting potatoes. In short, if you can afford the place, it is certainly the one restaurant in New Orleans you shouldn’t miss !!! From my point of view both best restaurant, as well as best value in town!!!

Classy and classic. Went with my 13 year old son who was excited to dress up. The staff were especially friendly to him and even the host came to our table to chat with him/us. Busy and alive with the din of diners enjoying thier experience ( sometimes noisy but in an exciting way). Duck and sausage gumbo was amazing as well as the red fish in lemon caper sauce. I am so glad that places like this, and Antoines for that matter, continue to exist in the world!
Nick Pecora
We had a great dinner that included roast duck and a couple filets all served perfect with a very friendly server.
R Brown
It was lovely. However, and establishment who requires jackets for the men should be above reproach with service. I will say it was very good but not perfect: we didn’t get butter for the bread; our bread plates instead of getting replace they just added more so the table was covered with little plates; the bus boys had dirty jackets; silver where was dropped multiple time on a tile floor- loud; the main course took an exceedingly long time to come after appetizer and salad course was cleared. So these are picky things but again from a snooty resturant you expect a level of service that they just missed the mark. All that said, everyone was lovely and the good was delish. I would absolutely go back.

What a fabulous event we had a Galatoire’s!
The food was better than ever!!
The crab maison appetizer was out of this world. Rarely do you see so much fresh lump crab meat on any appetizer and at a great price. In fact, we were there in October 2022 and we were surprised at how affordable the pricing was for such a premium restaurant.
(We would pass on the shrimp remoulade as the boiled shrimp just isn’t wonderful, tho I’m sure they’ve been doing it that way for 100 years:)
The fried oysters were unbelievably good. Be sure to get orders of fried eggplant sticks (apps) for the table!
One of our seven guests had the pompano, which was fabulous, I had the fillet which was out of this world with their sauce bearnaise, others had crab and seafood dishes - all wonderful.
If you get one dessert, make sure it’s the bread pudding. No doubt the best we have ever had!
The hosts were friendly and helpful.
Our table service was a little less than engaging and less friendly then we would have liked, but it was an extraordinarily busy Friday afternoon.
If you need a quiet restaurant, be sure not to go on a peak Friday lunch. The noise was overwhelming on the day we were there as there were so many revelers and a full house, But it was a peak weekend in October. Or, if noise is a concern, be sure to ask to be seated upstairs and not on the main level.
I should note that one person in our party was wearing dress shorts along with a polo shirt and a sport-coat and loafers and he was turned away due to having shorts on, even though there were scads of people throughout the room in crazy costumes and wild hats:(.
The prohibition on shorts seemed anachronistic and incongruous. It seems like they could’ve made an exception. Luckily, the hotel was nearby.
Anyway, we had a splendid visit and we can’t wait to go back.

Went for a rehearsal dinner. The atmosphere and experience are great. Had the best bread pudding in my life. The staff are professional. There is a dress code so men make sure you turn up with a blazer.

Billy and all the waitstaff were very attentive. We shared the Galatoire Goute appetizer (crab maison - heavy on the mayo, and shrimp remoulade - heavy on the horseradish) which was good. We both had broiled reddish. I had it with the shrimp etouffee so I could check it off my NOLA list. It was good. But the lemon caper beurre blanc that my partner had was better in my opinion. Best thing we had was the black bottom pecan pie. It was worth the sugar rush. Dress up if you want to eat in the elegant front dining room. Dress down if you want to be ushered into the back dining room. Favorite NOLA restaurant so far is Cafe Degas.

The good: Galatoire's is famously known for being kne of the best restaurants in New Orleans. It is a classic; a mainstay. The night I was there 8 people had their birthdays there, and they ranged from age 4 to age 5. Family friendly, Galatoire's offers a classic fine dining experience in the heart of the French Quarter. Service is excellent. Lots of options means something for everyone.
I had the whole redfish sautéed and topped with crab for my entree, and it was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. Believe the hype on this one. The mocha panna cotta was this delicious mix of dark chocolate edged with bitterness that was perfectly offset by the sweet cream on top.
The middling: the signature cocktail does not hold up to the drinks you can get in New Orleans, and the rest of the cocktail offerings are pretty basic.
Not so great: The soufflé potatoes were good, but nit terribly original. The gumbo was good, but a touch over browned, kicking it beyond nutty and into a little bit burnt. It also was very okra heavy for a shrimp and okra gumbo. It was the only thing I wouldn't order it again.
Bryan mares
Went for my 30th birthday with my girlfriend. First time going. With reservations, they are quick to seat you. The services was excellent and the crab entrees were delicious down to every bite. Thank you to the server for the dish recommendations. However, I was disappointed with two dessert plates we ordered. The mocha pannacotta tasted great, but it was pudding rather than pannacotta. I am also not sure why the kitchen would top it with canned whipped cream and Hershey's sauce. Similarly with the bread pudding, there was an unnecessary amount of canned whipped cream melting on the plate by the time it hit the table. This is poor presentation and lazy to be putting reddiwhip on these desserts. For a restaurant that displays a James Beard award at the entrance, I know they can do better than Reddiwhip.
Lisa Heilbronn
The eggplant sticks were so light I ate far too many. Turtle soup was very good. The trout almandine was very moist and absolutely boneless. Everything was lovely.

Food, atmosphere, and service were a++++. Would definitely return for the food and the ambiance. Everything was delicious and well seasoned, from appetizers to dessert. I feel sorry for the people who feel otherwise, as they must have went on an off day. I mean I wanted to eat three loaves of the bread alone, for goodness sake.
Now the downsides:
Be aware that parking is a pain in the neck and leave time to navigate that.
I will say that if you are at all ~COVID cautious~ Galatoires is... not it. Oh everyone was masked who worked there, but they a) seem to think that 50% capacity means operate 50% of the restaurant aka shove everyone in the main dining room, and leave the other spaces unused; b) actively encouraged unmasked diners to sing and cheer in said small space to someone for their birthday; c) were so packed that waitstaff often had to use the 6 ft between tables to move through the room.
My party was all vaccinated, which is why we were even out at all, but I found it busy and bustling even for precovid times. I won't remove a star because Orleans parish is doing very well, and frankly indoor dining's danger level is there, well-known, and I took the risk. I was just a little thrown by the fact that it almost felt like the before-times. Do your own calculations!
M Miller
A traditional higher end classic NOLA restaurant that offers the greatest value in town. Must tries are souffle potatoes, crab maison, turtle soup, duck or seafood gumbos, shrimp or crawfish etouffee, & crab yvonne. All of their meat dishes are great, but we are from the north and crave fresh seafood. Their fish is truly fresh and nothing short of amazing. Redfish, Black Drum and Pompano are what you go there for. They will sauté, broil, fry or poach it to perfection. I recommend the lemon caper beurre blanc or the meunière sauces. There are a host of sides, but you can't beat their lyonnaise potatoes. If you have room for dessert, then their bread pudding and pecan pies are pretty famous and classic. Off menu you can request bananas foster. Great wine list and plenty of great burgundy choices that won't break the bank. Tip: GET A RESERVATION. It's hard to do a walk in. You don't have to have a tie, but really? This is a white tablecloth restaurant with career staff. Men need at least a jacket. If you aren't dressed, they have a large room in the back that serves the same food. This is a must try and a great value for what it is.

Upscale, French-Creole restaurant on Bourbon St. Made a reservation online for 4 on a Wednesday at 6:30, and we were seated pretty quickly. Note that jackets are required, but they have jackets to lend out. If you’re on the shorter/smaller side, the jackets they have will most likely be too large (my dad was swimming in his jacket). If you make a reservation, you’re seated upstairs, as the downstairs area is walk-in only. There was no music playing, so it was pretty quiet until the restaurant filled up a bit more. The restaurant itself is very quaint but I was a bit disappointed by the food. Given its price, you’d expect something a little bit extra (whether it be in presentation or quality or creativity) but it was just bland. For an appetizer we split the oysters Rockefeller which was recommended by other reviews I had read. There is complimentary bread, and the food comes out in a reasonable time so you have time to hang out and chat. For the duck, the wild rice on the side was good and reminded me of a thanksgiving stuffing, but the duck skin itself had no crispness. The pan-seared duck was overly salted to the point where you get the crunchiness from the salt particles, not the actual duck. The bouillabaisse was a bit bland but the seafood was fresh. I liked the chicken bonne-femme the best, as it came with plenty of thick cut bacon.
In terms of the service, it was impeccable and our waitress was lovely. I liked how one of the servers proactively offered to take our photo as well. Bathrooms are available on the second floor. Come here and get dressed up for a special occasion, but expect pretty standard food.

Made reservations at 530 set right away after being seated no one greeted us tables around us were being greeted we sat for 20 minutes before they brought us bread and water 15 minutes later server brought drink menus and left 20 minutes more server came back took our drink order it took a long time to order anything for a fine dining we didn't really like any of the food we ordered it was red lobster kind of food not at all what we expected
I think they may have been great in the day but not anymore its a joke

Wow what an incredible experience and food! I would recommend making a reservation otherwise the downstairs area is first come first serve. This is on the pricey side but worth for the quality of the food and service. I had the salmon with a butter sauce and it was prepared perfectly. My friend and I chose two desserts but my favorite was the pecan pie. Probably the best peacan pie I've ever had. I would highly recommend this place.

Delicious food in such classic grandeur. Great fun tableside serving too. Would love to go back again and again. Best fillet steak I've had!

Fantastic! Top notch service from Jarrell and the entire staff. Food was amazing. Every bite from appetizer to dessert was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Jarrell was knowledgeable about gluten free requirements and made the visit exceptionally comfortable for us.

If there were 10 stars, Galatoires would get them all. We had a birthday celebration for a very good friend. Our server Skip made this a very memorable event. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Amanda Nelson
The food was amazing! I had the trout amandine--perfectly cooked with a delicious light and buttery crunch. The duck crepe was a delicious starter. Highly recommend.
David Morse
The staff are amazing,professional hospitality.
The appetizers, Shrimp Remoulard, Crabmeat, Crawfish,Oysters Broucet. Delicious, flavorful.
The Redfish Special covered with Crabmeat, artichokes, mushroom sauce eqsuite presentation, savory delicate notes.
Ryan Vetack
Lovely meal, superb service. One of our favorite stops during our New Orleans adventure! Ace was a grwat waitress, and the pecan pie is to die for!
Andrew Pei
Would recommend dressing up! The service is excellent but the food is solid but not amazing. Beware if getting shellfish as our oysters still had some shell in it

Each one of these stars is for the food only. I could have given more stars if only rating the food but since this review is for the restaurant as a whole I feel this rating is generous. My experience couldn't have been further from a fine dinning experience. The horrendous service started at the check in. Extremely unfriendly as we were told to go upstairs to check in. We should have turned around at that point. We were seated and the server finally came to greet us and take our drink order. I asked a question about one of their specialty cocktails and received a one word response. The drinks arrived and they were tasty. We waited and waited for our server to return to order another drink and ask questions regarding the menu. At one point we got up to look for someone to assist us. Other tables were having a better experience than us as we heard them go over the menu in detail and receive prompt refills and attention. We had to ask our server numerous questions to get any information out of him. The appetizers arrived and the dropped the food and left. No new plates were offered or was the tabled crumbed after the bread service. We had to ask for all of that as well. No one asked how the food was or checked in on us after the entrees either. The food was tasty so no complaints there except for dessert. The key lime tart was terrible. It tasted worse than a grocery store dessert. High recommend the duck crepe and the blackend redfish. We also reached out to the restaurant regarding our experience and no one ever replied. With all the amazing restaurants in NOLA I would definitely skip this one and find another that appreciates their customers. I couldn't wait to leave this restaurant and I can say I've never felt that way in a restaurant before.
Dimas Perez
The food was excellent. The service fell short as it appeared that the waitress was strugling to keep up with the amount of tables assigned and gave the impression of being upset and rushing.
Jonathan Peyton
A New Orleans classic. Great restaurant for authentic NOLA flavor right in the middle of the French Quarter. Good for all types of occasions - celebrations, corporate events, casual lunch. Fantastic food and friendly service - clean bathrooms with quality tissues! Highly recommend – put this on your list!
Karen Helsel
If I could reserve a six star review for those off- the-chart dining experiences, this would get that 6 star review. Our waiter Skip was on point with every recommendation, from cocktails through dessert. The staff never let the water glasses dip below half full, and our empty plates didn't sit long on the table. For cocktails we chose the 209 Cocktail and the Milk Punch - both very tasty and refreshing. For the meal, we started with the Turtle Soup, served with sherry on the side to be added to your taste. It was fantastic! We moved on to the Redfish and the Crab Sardou, both of which were delicious. A new loaf of fresh, warm bread accompanied every course, along with fresh butter and new water goblets full of fresh ice as well. Desserts rounded out a very pleasant, unhurried, truly delicious dining experience. I hope business brings us back to town frequently so that we can sample more of the menu and the hospitality that made this visit so fabulous.

Classic, old school, traditional upscale New Orleans experience. The food was delicious, the service excellent, atmosphere lovely. We took advantage of the coolinary menu and it didn't disappoint. I had the filet which was perfectly prepared. I dare say the gumbo is better at Commander's Palace, but terrific all the same.
April Davis
We had a great "goodbye lunch" on our way to the airport. There wasn't much of a crowd at 1pm on a Tuesday. We had reservations, but it simply was't necessary.
There is no service like New Orleans service & at old school joints like this it's even more true.
The three course lunch was generous & delicious.
Guys: don't forget your jacket at dinner. At lunch, I saw two men dressed nicely but without a jacket who were served without issue.

I am coming fused about what I should have about....The bread which was baked to perfection? Fluffy and flaky...yummm...ended up having three of them!! The Seafood Gumbo? Oh my God, I could have a bucket load of that. Amazingly flavorful, well balanced and not overpowering. Amazingly good for hangovers as well ;). The shrimp creole which my wife loved and was using the bread to soak it up? The shrimp etouffe was also good but I wouldn't suggest that if you're having the Gumbo as the flavors are similar. Good but similar. Even the simple custard was perfect. Loved the food here. Even the waiting staff was very courteous and mindful.
Daniel Campbell
Quintessential New Orleans. The original Creole.
Tanya Webb
Had lunch in the green room today - food was fantastic! I especially love a dark roux, and their duck and andouille gumbo was absolutely wonderful!
Charles Conti
Professional waiters. Exceptional food. Reasonable prices. A New Orleans iconic restaurant. Ask for a table in the back, it is MUCH quiter than the front.
Asher McInerney
Crown jewel of the classic New Orleans culinary scene. Same great service and food for over a century. Professional, friendly , fast staff makes dining a delight. Anyone of the well crafted dishes is sure to please. Make sure to get the souflé potato’s. Great wines by the glass. Walk in for the casual eats downstairs or book upstairs for more formal setting.

Very old school establishment in the heart of French Quarter. We arrived on time for our reservation and were sent upstairs. Got seated in a large, mostly empty dining room and were given the menu.
Got some nice cocktails to get started and perused the menu. They have appetizers, soups (including a turtle soup), salads, and a variety of shrimp or other seafoods. Of course there are meats to be had as well.
We got a small shrimp and crab appetizer. Delivery was unimpressive. Looked like they just scooped it out of a large bowl and slopped it on a plate. Tasted delicious though. Then we ordered the red fish with etoufe sauce. It also came out looking somewhat disgusting but was actually not bad.
We did not realize that it’s just fish. Did not come with any greens or starch. So still ordered some tator tot like dish. The potatoes were good.
Overall the meal could be good but was not impressed with the service. Not very helpful in making sure you get a good meal. They were just “whatever”
Kate Sturges
Our waiter was awesome, so friendly and kind to us and our children. Everything was top notch, service, food and atmosphere, I highly recommend!
Ashley Powers
The shrimp creole was amazing here! All of the staff was constantly checking in, refilling drinks, a truly great experience! Everyone was so friendly, and you can’t go wrong with any of the seafood section. Enjoy!
Nicole Dobry
Nice atmosphere and the staff was attentive and very helpful. Some dishes are on the salty side as previously reviewed. The filet mignon was delicious so don't order a sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly medium which had a good flavor. Menu included large entrees, appetizers, and sides to share.
Rebecca Howard
Nestled in amongst the raucous bars of Bourbon Street, you'll find Galatoire's, an exquisite century-old institution.
Steeped in tradition and history, the fine dining creole restaurant is definitely not one to miss whilst you are in the quarter.
The main dining room is elegant and unpretentious, although at times it can become rather loud. I for one appreciate the formality of dress code, it's nice to see people make a little effort in what they are wearing.
As I understand, the menu has not significantly changed in 50 years. Our chosen dishes were flavoursome and delicious and the servers were gracious and welcoming.
Overall I really enjoyed the experience, the restaurant maybe completely out of the place on Bourbon Street, but it is like stepping back in time to classic old style charm.
Karina Tobías
Galatoire's was in every list of restaurants you have to try when in NOLA, to be honest I think it's a really nice experience.
The food is good, the place is really pretty and the staff is really friendly. It's a nice place to go on a date or any celebration (there were 2 tables celebrating their graduation)
When booking (and i recommend that you do) we missed the part of the dress jacket requirement. But thankfully, they had a rack of coats that you can use. (This was before covid obviously, don't really know how they manage now so remember to take yours!)
Julie Fletcher
I am giving three stars instead of two due to the impeccable service and the Oysters en Brochette. The oysters were perfectly cooked and crispy with a beautiful bacon flavor. Our server Brittney was friendly and helpful with suggestions regarding popular dishes. I was so looking forward to eating at this iconic Bourbon Street restaurant. The Crab Sardou was tasty but riddled with crab shell pieces. The artichoke hearts had very tough strings in them. We were really looking forward to the Bread Pudding because of the reviews but I found it dry - more like a French toast casserole. The Sweet Potato Cheesecake had too much nutmeg. The Black Bottom Pecan Pie was the best of the three we tried but nothing to rave about. Very disappointed in a meal I was looking forward to and paid a hefty price for. Go somewhere else if you want to experience an iconic meal in NOLA.
Elizabeth Tofting
Food was ok... would've probably been better if it was less rice. More rice than sauce made the food seem dry
Brett Scheuber
Great staff and service and good atmosphere all around. You will need your Vax card per person to get in currently.
Bryan P. Kelly
We had an incredible experience! Our server Joni was a delight. Knowledgeable and understanding. Amazing apps and our steaks we cooked to perfection.
It’s easy to go to the various tourist stops but Galatoire’s is exceptional!
Jay Finesilver
Solid meal start to finish. Solid food and service. The lamb chops outstanding.
Christian Garris
An institution that has never let the quality slip. Out of place on Bourbon Street, but we’ll worth a visit. My favorite red fish anywhere. Formal dining room, but a next door more casual bar is also available.
Nick E.
This place could've improved some things but was great nonetheless. The servers could've been more attentive and one kept talking to us despite making it obvious we just wanted to relax but I'm not too bothered by it. The gumbo I had was a 9/10 and the potato puffs were good as well but the hollandaise is easily a 10/10. Best sauce I've had honestly. Steak was a 9/10 as well.
Jason C. Lin
The oyster Rockefeller was good. So was the bouillabaisse. The Galatoire Gout was well worth it for the amount if seafood you get. Vibe is very old school and comfortable. Gentlemen needs to have a jacket on or else you will be sitting in the back room.
Brent Cary
A local tour guide told us to try this place and we were not disappointed. The fish is well prepared and you can choose your sauce. Nice date place, make sure you have a jacket though.
Reona
Fantastic food, great dining experience. We ordered one of daily special broiled redfish and steak. The redfish was so tender and flaky, very delicious.
Vanessa Bryant
Hit Bourbon early and randomly dropped in. A hidden gem because the food was soooo good! Highly recommend!! There was a line at the door but with a party of 2 we got in super quick.
Sophia S
The food and service were amazing! We had the Galatoire’s groute, turtle soup, blackened redfish with crabmeat yvonne, and custard. All gluten free! So good!!
Meadow Gobert
A bawdy Ladies' lunch here for the Double on Friday. Our lunch was extra special due to the College Football Championship Game on the next Monday. Crowd is always the best people watching and who's who. Service and staff is top notch. From champagne and apps to second, third and fourth courses, we were taken care of above and beyond...Sonny knows his craft. A standard in New Orleans where people enjoy dining and dressing up a bit!
Trenton Judson
Went for lunch and had their Gumbo. Gumbo was great!! The man working the door was very hospitable and sat be in an ideal location to view the pleasant ambiance.
I waited a really long time to get any bread or even to have my order taken. Several people were served before me that came after me. I got the feeling my server saw me as a single person and gave his attention to the larger parties that came after me. That's unfortunate because it's such a great place. I may even give it another try is at because everything else went so good.
john s
The staff, appearance, quality of the service and food earned the rating. I'll definitely return to try more options and see if there is room for a 5 star rating.
Dean Thomas
Food was average. The best thing was the char grilled oysters. I would not call this fine dining, but it was a decent place.
Emma Schillage
It’s one of the best for a reason. Cant go wrong with any of their options
Mick Lockey
Boisterous eatery just on the edge of Bourbon Street. Classic dining. Competent, efficient service. Moderate prices.
Stephanie Bent
If your going for lunch make sure you get the sampler. Fridays are the best day for lunch. Everyone is celebrating something or just have a really fun time. Bottles are popping and the dining room is filled with friendly conversation that could cross a table or two.
Rob Harris
If you like to eat at a very nice, fancy, good, well-established New Orleans restaurant, then this is one of your best choices.
Morgan Smith
Went for an event and a meal and both were great. Service was wonderful and great vibe.
P Mizell
Friday lunch is one of the great American experiences. Everyone should try it once. Plan on about four hours. Great food, loud, fun, drunken revelry. You’ll make new friends you’ll never see again until maybe next time you come back. You have to wait in line for a table, call ahead and ask what time you should be there, some Fridays are worse than others.
Cecelia Fresh
Phenomenal! The food and service were off the charts amazing!!! The decibel level of the room was HIGH! People are so happy to be out and about and living life again. Magical ✨✨✨
Sinan Pismisoglu
Great Food, great atmosphere, great clientele, great staff. Red fish was phenomenal, crepe with Duck was yummy 😋. Desert was to die for. …
Keith S
Had lunch here recently and it was pretty good. Very good Bloody Mary. We had the Crab Sarbou and Oyster. The crab was cold but still good. It was really loud inside. Will try it again for dinner if we can. Service was excellent.
Sherry Varrone
A MUST when visiting New Orleans! Everything was outstanding - the food, the service, the atmosphere - when you come in off of Bourbon Street you're in a different world.
Beth Platek
We made reservations for a table of ten a couple months out. We ended up having a table right next to the entrance - getting every cold draft from people entering or exiting as well as the smell of the smokers just outside the door. If making a reservation, I feel like you should get a table where the person on the corner doesn't get bumped into by everyone coming into the restaurant. Location aside, we had two servers helping with our table. The lead server seemed impatient from the start. Regardless, we did receive quick service. Specify exactly what dressing you want on your salad because the server said she preferred two types on the wedge, and then we all ended up with both not knowing she was going to make the decision for everyone. Also, just order the petite filet because 3/4 of us ordered the petite and all the steaks were huge. Save a few bucks and still get a huge steak. The black bottom pecan pie was delicious. Overall, the food was good, service was okay (we ended up missing a side, got an incorrect side, and had to ask for the accompanying sauce for our steak), and the table location was less than ideal.
Stephanie Robinson
I definitely could've missed where it said so but we would've loved to know that you must sit way in the back (in another room) if you didn't wear a blazer. The staff was very polite but the food was a little blah for me. My hubby loved every bite of his food and the other couple was not really impressed. I honestly wish we has gone somewhere else but glad the hubby enjoyed it.

When we lived in New Orleans, we spent many happy times, especially on Fridays, at Galatoire's. The main dining room, with its old-school New Orleans atmosphere, the long room lined with mirrors, the great waiters (and now waitresses), the locals who eat here regular: It was always a great experience.
On a return visit to New Orleans, we -- my spouse, our son (who was born in New Orleans) and I walked from the Roosevelt a few blocks to the restaurant on a Friday evening. For old time's sake I wore a blazer and tie, although now only jackets for men are required in the main dining room after 5 pm. Surprisingly there was no line at the door, and we were seated at a great corner table on the main floor.
Our waiter, Dom (new to me) was excellent. We started with cocktails and plenty of the crusty French bread that you can only get in New Orleans. Our appetizers -- Shrimp Remoulade, IMO one of the best versions in New Orleans, Oysters Rockefeller and Souffle Potatoes -- were terrific and just as I remembered them.
We were saddened when we didn't see Trout Meunière Amandine on the menu this night (that's our all-time favorite entrée at Galatoire's) but Dom went off to the kitchen and checked and found they had had a delivery of trout that afternoon, so of course we ordered it. It was very good, with fried crispy and covered with butter and almonds. Not quite as good as in my memory -- not quite enough sauce -- but still wonderful.
With a couple of cocktails each, a glass of wine each, three appetizers, three entrees, two or three sides a la carte and chicory coffee, the tab with tip came to about $125 a person. Expensive, but worth every penny for the great memories the dinner brought back.
Galatoire's expansion, with private dining and reservations available upstairs, and the Galatoire's 33 next door, more casual but sharing the same dining room, plus the attempted expansion in Baton Rouge, has change the restaurant somewhat, but it remains one of my all time favorite New Orleans experiences.
Christopher Gannon
If you’re looking for the most incredible bread of your life, look no further. I thought the service was impeccable but the bread was even better. Worth every pennies
Rita Mayfield
nice atmosphere , great location. food was ok nothing to brag about. Shrimp was not cleaned
Anon ymous
This was one of the best meals that I ever have had truly. Our waiter Kurt not only had stunning blue eyes, but he was on point. He saw to our every need. The sounds odd, but I loved having to go through a butlers panty to get the a restroom.
Tariq Sanad
This is a must come location in NOLA, experience the bustling dining hall with everyone dressed up and having a good time. The waiters provide a big part of the experience and Charlie our waiter was a charm. The food is great, I highly recommend the soufflé potatoes and the lamp chops. It is very cosy and great for people watching, so long as you don’t expect a fine dining experience you’ll have a good time!
Anthony D'Elia
Food was great! You do have to wear a jacket if you want to sit in the main dining area. They have some loaner jackets available if you want to use one. We preferred not to and dined in the back room, which to me was nicer, less crowded and quieter. We did have pants and a button up shirt on for the men and laides wore dresses. Service was top notch. The steaks melted in your mouth like butter. The only miss, as my brother pointed out was their garlic bread. Everything else was great. Great meal and experience.
Wayne Anders
Fine dining the way it should be. Top notch service and excellent food. Not cheap but worth it.
Joseph Jeffers
One of the must stops in the French Quarter. Everything is fresh and made from scratch!! Can't wait to come back
Cheryl Edwards
First time for a famous Friday Galatoire's lunch! After dining in some of New Orleans' most amazing establishments, my expectations were super high for the level of service and food we were going to receive, and while the service did disappoint, the food most certainly did not! The service was slow and not in the typical casual Nola chill manner, but in more of a we were forgotten and neglected during most the entire meal kind of way. But like I said the food, OMG, THE FOOD!!! Everything we had, from the fried eggplant appetizer (who would've thought to serve it with powdered sugar AND bechamel sauce? YUM!!!) to my Egg Sardou and hash browns, and husband's Crab Sardou and turtle soup was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Even the drinks (Milk punch, 209, & Sazerac) were tasty as hell, and totally worth the splurge. I made two separate reservations for 2 different Fridays a while back, not sure which would work better, figuring I could cancel the one that I didn't make. After this first experience, not a chance I'm cancelling the second lunch I've got scheduled in the coming weeks. I can't wait to try more from their menu!
Melissa Ruble
Brussels sprouts were AMAZING! I'd go back just for that! Filet mignon was also outstanding
Ted Lee
upscale restaurant. recommend making a reservation if you don't want to wait. also, there's a dress code
Lynne Tracey
A wonderful experience; thrilled that restaurants such as this historic gem still exists. One walks out of the craziness that is Bourbon Street and into the gentility of Olde New Orleans.
The service suffers a bit now given the staffing shortages but the food is unaffected and is delicious as always.
S. Paulsen
wonderful food. increadible staff. clientele...self important loud mouths! the sound is defening in the dining room. 86 decibels. We wanted to have a conversation. not hear your cackling adolescent laugh or hear you try to shout over you table mates. How dare you subject the staff to this defening din! You and you're groups conversation are not that important.
Ken Rosenberg
We were there for my wife's birthday on June 17 and the experience was awesome as usual. She had filet and I had the veal chop and both were prepared perfectly. Our server, Tim, was very attentive. We will be back
James Blessing
Excellent food, great service, gentlemen must wear a shirt and jacket and the wine list is massive
titus sanders
My wife and I went here for our wedding anniversary and the best time. The food was great and the service was even better. Special thanks to Ralph Moore, we'll be back.
Richard Heilman
The sound level here is the 120 db range, so that makes for a very lively experience, although you will have to shout across your table for anyone to hear what you're saying. Other than that, this place is fantastic. My wife and I recently went for a Saturday lunch during our anniversary vacation to NOLA. We expected it to be a bit stuffy and perhaps a disappointment regarding the food, but that could not be farther from the truth. Our waiter, Skip, was cordial, informative, humorous, and offered outstanding service amid the packed and raucous setting. Being career-long wine professionals, we brought our own Champagne, a 100% Pinot Muenier from a small House located in the Marne district, Apollonis, and purchased an excellent St. Aubin Blanc, 2019 "Charmois" from Paul Pillot off the comprehensive wine list. We started with the sweetbreads and duck crepe - both extremely good. My wife had the Pompano Meuniére Amandine, which was also excellent. My Stuffed Eggplant was a little overwhelming, perhaps, because, too dough-like in consistency, although quite flavorful, Overall, quite a fun experience and one of the restaurant highlights of our "Foodie" trip. Galatoire's should not be missed if you are in New Orleans.
Dion Mills
Can't beat the staff here. They adapted menu items to suit my diet and it did not compromise the taste!

A colleague and I were in New Orleans for a big conference and decided to kick off our 5 day trip here with a dinner at Galatoire's. I will start by sending it was the best meal we had!
Located right on Bourbon, this very nice restaurant was a bit like stepping into white table clothed hospitability of days gone by. Men had to wear sport coats, yet it was unpretentious. There IS a dress code, nothing too crazy but you will want to look nice for your Galatoire's experience. We had a 7:30P reservation but the hostess was able to seat us a little early. There were lots of celebration dinners happening that night from birthdays to a recent graduate from Yale. It was fun that they had a way of making each one fun for the entire dining room.
Our server was wonderful, I think everyone called her Ace? Apparently you can actually request your favorite server, but as tourists we were given to her and she was great.
She brought us some fresh baked bread, which you just rip apart not worrying about the mess. While we tore into the bread she brought us a couple of Galatoire’s Specialty Cocktail's. A MUST do, particularly if you are a bourbon/whiskey fan.
Food... We ordered the Shrimp Remoulade appetizer and OH MY. My coworker is NOT a shell fish fan but he was after eating half of this delight. We ended up ordering other versions of the same dish at other restaurants later in our trip and nobody did it like Galatoire's. We split a deliciously fresh housemade green salad with garlic, then I did the Petite Filet (Marchand de Vin) and he did the Daily (Trout) Meuniére Amandine. He described it somewhat like a bearclaw danish meets fresh catch of the day. I know it sounds weird, but I am not a fan of fish and had a few bites and loved it. We shared the Broccoli/Hollandaise and Lyonese Potatoes. All of it was scrumptious! We ended our almost 2 hour dining experience with the house bread pudding. It is WOW worthy.
Galatoire's is a must do if you are looking for a memorable dining experience at an iconic NOLA restaurant.
Matthew Schank
My experience here was everything I wanted it to be and more…
Darrell took great care of my party and me when we dined here, every suggestion he made was spot on.
The Sazeracs were amazing. The food was incredible. The ambiance was timeless. I’ll BE SURE to revisit the next time I’m in New Orleans ⚜️🍤 🍸 🥃 🦞
Will S
A New Orleans classic for dinner and Friday lunches. Party rooms up stairs. Jackets for men required year round. On Bourbon St. So no parking but some nearby. Menu has not changed in 50 years at least. Soft shell crab and pompano best anywhere. Brightly lit historic dining room with waiters who started when the building was built. A traditional culture of it's own makes this restaurant more popular with locals than tourists!
amy c
Iconic spot on Burbon Street. Some really well executed food, and an old atmosphere of New Orleans.
Mark Henry
One of most enjoyable dining experiences of my life. Great drinks, great food, and Skip provided wonderful service. Honestly though, Friday lunch at Galatoire's must be experienced to be fully appreciated.
julie dinneen
Amazing! Absolutely 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯 loved everything we ate. We had the Oyster Rockefeller, Gumbo, Fried Shrimp, Ribeye Medium Rare and the Crawfish Eutuffe (Absolutely delicious). Brian was our server and was so pleasant and easybto talk too. He knew the Drink and Food menu's inside and out. GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE. Thank you! …
Scott Milroy
Really disappointed... My wife arranged a surprise anniversary dinner for us, and made sure to let them know it was a special occasion, but there was absolutely no effort made by the staff to make us feel special. On the contrary: we were seated, and after 30 minutes of absolutely NO-ONE checking in with us, I had to ask the Maitre D' who our waiter/ess was supposed to be! And when our waiter finally DID come, he seemed almost annoyed to serve us.
The food was good, but not exceptional. My wife's Filet Mignon was very good, but my Pompano was tiny, over-cooked, and generally underwhelming. In all, this was far less than what we expected for a fine dining experience - especially from the "famous" Galatoire's! Maybe we'll try again sometime in the future, just in case this was an isolated incident. Maybe.
Jason DeHaven
Had the biggest oyster I have ever seen, but they were fresh and good.
Robin England
Be sure no men in your party forget a jacket if it is dinner or you will be sat in a back room that has a very different experience. Everyone in our party was dressed our Sunday best with dresses and bottom down shirts. Our server didn't even say hello or introduce himself when he approached our table, just asked if we wanted drinks to start. There was no music in our room and only two of the table candles were lit in this back room. It was a very different experience and service was very impersonal. My steak was undercooked, almost rare. We also were here to celebrate a birthday (which was part of our reservation and confirmed at check-in) but 2 tables around us got a celebration whereas we didn't. Very odd. Overall, would pass for other high end dinner options.
Taylor Fegan
I came to New Orleans and had heard a lot of hype/read a lot about this restaurant that was supposed to be one of the best in the city. It was on the upper end of okay. The drinks tasted watered down, all of the meat + fish was undercooked (salmon was raw in the middle) and everything lacked a little salt/flavor. Also - the locals who were dining around us gave us a hard time for being from out of town and having not left soon enough after Mardi Gras. Overall, I ate at better restaurants during my trip that were more worth the money and the effort needed for Galatoire’s.
Thomas Krajewski
The lunch was fairly uninspired. The wait staff generally ignored us for 15 minutes before bringing water, 15 minutes later some bread was left on the table. The oysters Rockefeller were good, the fried eggplant was okay.
The eggs sardou and hashbrowns had almost no flavor, no salt no spice. The hashbrowns were undercooked and tasted like raw potato. Have been here previously, dinner is better but this meal in a word was underwhelming
Carissa Hardy
Great place to go and experience New Orleans. I celebrated my birthday here and it was amazing. They showed me mad love and all the staff was welcoming.
Elizabeth Mavetz
I was really excited to eat here...my hubby got his first suit coat just for this occasion. Unfortunately the experience was just ok...nothing special. The best part was the duck gumbo. I had the souffle potatos which were really just pockets of fried potatoes (nothing inside them) and shrimp with potatoes, peas & one tiny piece of bacon. The peas were boiled & mushy. Nothing about it was fine dining. Kind of stupid to require a dress code & not serve a fine dining experience.
Michael Edmondson
Excellent. I was annoyed I had to borrow a jacket, yes there's a dress code, but the food and service made it totally worthwhile. I'd go back. For was very good and waiter was solid and helpful.
Brent Wallis
Always fantastic and a New Orleans classic, Galatoire's never disappoints. Be prepared for a loud and exciting atmosphere and at least a 3-4hr dinner. There wine list is huge as are the menu options. 5 fresh fish options as well as all the shellfish, you could never eat the same meal twice. The Oysters Rockefeller is devine, and lump crab meat can be added to a anything. A must do for visitors and locals alike.
Justin Atkins
Absolutely the best steak I’ve ever eaten. Wonderful sides as well.
Peter Coutinho
Great food and service! Great Cajun and creole specialties. Service moves quick, but I didn't feel rushed. Every item I tried was fantastic.
Terri McCulloch
Oh my goodness.... I was here for a conference dinner. Every course was wonderful!! The tenderloin was cooked perfectly and succulent. The banana bread pudding is a must!
Timothy Olmsted
The head waiter noticed we were in casual attire and they escorted us to that dining area. Our waitress Jennifer was awesome. The food was fantastic and their sweet potato Cheesecake and bread pudding were delicious. I would highly recommend. We all sampled each others meals, all winners.
Maria Wilson
Great food and ambiance. We had escargot, broiled red fish and shrimp creole, even the bread was delicious. Steve was our waiter and he was excellent. Make sure to make reservations.
Bart Jongenotter
Old southern style fancy restaurant, we got to sit in the nicer area in the back. Friendly staff, food pretty good. Had the turtle soup which lacked the turtle meat but the creole chicken made up for that.
LyfewitAmber
It was so good we sat by the window the scenery was nice
Matthew Santiago
I felt underdressed when I came here for lunch on Sunday. The restaurant itself was extremely crowded.
I ordered the crabmeat gratin, which felt like it was a side dish that was missing something. One texture, soft - just sauce with random bites of crab. The souffle potatoes were ok. Overall, it's fine, but the food is not worth the price.
Sarah Parks
Amazing meal & amazing service! Love Galatoire's and would recommend to all!
Debbie Tye
Always an exceptional visit to Galatoire's.
We love it so much that we've been going about once a week and always sit in the bar area ( same exact menu, you just don't have to dress up)
Food is AMAZING and portions are huge.
Cash and Avo are the best bartenders around and truly make you feel welcome ( and they make the best cocktails!!)
吴锐恒(Ruiheng Edbalt Wu)
Perfect cuisine! The seafood is soooo fresh, and well cooked.
Conor MacCarvill
Food was good if not a little over priced. Was recommended the foix gras to start but it was on hreas that tasted like french bread. The textures were too similar and it was weird to eat something that tasted so much like a breakfast food. Stick with the steak, get the veal medium rare
Noah Cieutat
Honestly everything about the experience was fantastic. Our waiter Ace was fantastic with everything. Gave excellent recommendations and top tier service. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice time.
Terri McCulloch
Beautiful restaurant. I was here for a private event. Every food course was divine! The filet mignon cooked perfectly and the banana bread pudding.... I couldn't stop eating it was so yummy!
Gregory Patzelt
Hands down one of the best meals I've ever had. 10 oz filet mignon perfect medium with creamed spinach / salmon with asparagus. Both perfect. The appetizer was lovely as well. The bread is so damn good; light and airy so you don't get full, yet soooo much flavor. It was my birthday and they made an announcement to the entire dining room (guests included) and everyone in the room sang me a happy birthday; very special moment. Tim was an excellent server as well. We will 100000% be back here!!!!
Del Gold
Over rated. Made reservations..told to dress up and there were people that looked they were wearing pjs. Ordered souffle potatoes and a crab aop. Half of potatoes were burnt. The crab dish was cold and felt it was a ball of crab stuffing.entrees are ala Carter and waitress did not tell us u ril asked. My reddish was very well prepared. My friends egg Benedict was good. Service okay. Would I go back no.
Cheryl Alexander
Absolutely the most elegant atmosphere , quality service and exquisite food!
Alyssa Carter
Great great food. Service of fantastic, the food is interesting and so good. One of those places that is a must. It’s tradition. My children and I have gone there for years. It’s New Orleans at its best. Any dish will satisfy your palate. When my father took me there it was fantastic and now my children hold the tradition.
Sam Mills
The most amazing meal I have had in my life. Come ready to spend and enjoy yourself like never before. Highly recommend the fish options. I would also suggest getting a few sides for the table. Brian took care of us and was wonderful
Todd Newkirk
Impeccable experience, astounding service and food beyond expectations. Legendary NO establishment.
Xavier Casillas
The steak was top level and cooked perfect. The sides were outstanding and the appetizer sampler is a must have. Was Friday night and we had reservations, able to sit early. I did see some guys who did not have a jacket on or dress jeans so dress code might be hit or miss.
J Law
Private dining available with sliding doors. Food and service is exceptional...the BEST in New Orleans. Guys must wear coat. Dress code required. Reservations required. This is NOT a one hour dining experience. Be ready to make an afternoon or evening of it.
Cameron Andrus
From the atmosphere to the food everything screams New Orleans. Fun and delicious. I had the Red Fish, broiled, with the Shrimp etouffee on top. Brilliant!
Jeza Guadalupe
Great food! Everything was delicious! The service was very good, great bread, soft meat and tasty drinks! Classic and elegant place!
Jo Y
The food was fantastic! We had the Oyster Rockefeller, Maple Leaf Duck, Chicken Clemenceau, Stuffed Eggplant and 12oz Pork Chop. Everything had good flavor and was well-cooked and tender. The portions were more than what we were expecting for the prices and were perfectly fair. The Pork Chop and the Maple Leaf Duck were particularly good and I would definitely recommend ordering it. We finished off the meal with the bread pudding which was also delectable.
All the food was top-notch, even the bread basket was delicious. My only disappointment with our visit was the service. It was passable but our server did not check on us at all after the food arrived and took a very long time to check if we wanted dessert and to bring the bill. On the other hand, it was a very easy experience placing an online reservation and when we had to adjust our reservation last minute because of travel delays, they responded by email quickly and was very accommodating.
Debbie Dunaway
Great dining experience. It's like stepping back in time.
Ann Butler
The dining experience as far as the food goes was outstanding. The wait staff and bus staff was very attentive. To have a fine dining experience at a white tablecloth restaurant I would have expected proper serving techniques to be used. That was not the case. However it was certainly an outstanding meal with a creative chef. I would not recommend the pecan pie it was terrible. It was mushy not very flavorful and one cannot taste the pecans.
Sara Jeannine Wimmer
Although it is in the middle of Bourbon Street you would never know it! The food was great and it was like going back in time with all the servers in suits. I had a great time and highly recommend it!
Van Nguyen
A high-class brunch, lunch and dinner restaurant that doesn't disappoint! Cocktails and spirits were expertly crafted and deliciously refreshing. The Maple Leaf Duck melts in you mouth with a hint of sweetness.

Traditional New Orleans in every good way. In the Quarter and smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle, this is fine dining at its best. Seafood, steak and Florida deserts delivered with the friendliest, most precise service. Treat yourself.
Heidi Harris
Fabulous. Thankfully Matradie sat us on bar side from lunch overflow.
Waiter was extremely busy.
Cocktails, fish dishes, soups, bread...all fabulous.
I would say this is the premium example of French sauces
and smotherings.
Cocktails were premium.
Got to go there!

Great dining experience! Hadn't been to Galatoires in years, and booked lunch for 8 ladies last week. Wonderful 3 course lunchtime specials. Had reservation at 2:00 when it is not quite so noisy. They had the best French bread. Fun lunch - our favorite dining experience over a five day period!

Classic New Orleans

A French Quarter gem

This was a tough one. Amazing place but service was subpar. Food was excellent. Manager apologized and comped s number of things to make up for it. Have to try the garlic bread! They have four kitchens but we’re only working out of one for the entire restaurant. So I give 4 stars due to lack of staff due to people not wanting to work.

Was anticipating unprecedented service! But was met with mediocre service. Upon being seated with reservations. We sat unattended to for 10-15 mins before our waiter realized we were there. At that point he(SONNY) made a conscious effort to provide service after that. He provided us two glasses of Champagne for the inconveniences of the wait. Steak was prepared excellent!

We were sat in the back of 33 & Steakhouse side of the restaurant after making reservations for the main dining room. Forty five minutes went by without drinks or even menus at our table, and that only changed because a member of our party got up and walked across the restaurant to grab someone's attention - as if our party of 4 out of 7 was invisible.
The food was lackluster, any ambiance of luxury non-existent, and while our waiter was charming enough; he spent most of his time with his other tables and neglected ours.
Multiple attempts made to get some semblance of service were ignored, and bringing our concerns up to the manager on duty changed nothing; not even a table visit was made by them.
What should've been an exquisite fine dining experience felt more like an over priced chain restaurant on a bad night.
The staff did comp the bottle of wine we ordered, which was the best tasting feature on the table.

What’s there to say about Galatoires? Every time, and I mean every time I come to New Orleans, it’s at the top of my list of places to go. It’s the most consistently delicious upscale French-Creole food, with seamless service from all of the staff. Brian, a favorite server, blends perfect service with that New Orleans hospitality, wit and warmth. From start to finish, Galatoires delivers a sensational dining experience blending the old world and the new. And especially in COVID times, the tables were spaced evenly and mask use was strictly enforced. I couldn’t recommend this established New Orleans restaurant enough.
Liz Harris
Whether you’re in the bar or white table clothed main dining room, the service and ambiance is exactly what I remember about New Orleans that’s unmatched. Don’t miss the duck and andouille soup, at least start with a bowl; the roux isn’t something you’ll forget.
Jerri Matthews
Very flavorful seafood gumbo, turtle soup, and the bread is a must have. The lump crab in the white sauce and the drum fish with capers was awesome! Customer service was the best you can ask for!!
I will go again.
Chase Ogden
Really good ambiance, but mostly old people. The shrimp creole was delightful as was the bread pudding. Drinks were too strong and not well mixed. The creamed spinach came out cold and they took it back once we said something. The staff were universally friendly and we would go again. The duck gumbo was as good as my Mama's!
Mike “Michael” Swiney
Excellent dinner. Flavors and freshness were awesome. First time back here in many years and it is still one of the best NOLA restaurants. Many thanks to our server, Alicia and rest of the staff especially Ramaude (sp)

I ordered ribeye after we finally told the host we hadn't been waited on and 3 tables seated around us had drinks and already getting appetizers.
My ribeye was actually a boneless pork steak but I ate it. It was just ok.
Hubby had redfish but couldn't change the sides so he had to either order extras for $12 or eat fish and that was it. He ate fish. I ate pork steak, over salted greens and a 1/4 cup of mashed red skin on potatoes. The line was long to get in because so much is shut down in the French Quarter. We thought it was because the food and service was good. We were wrong. Drinks weren't bad but my drink was 1/2 of the short pour glass. Don't bother. Pick someplace else.
Samantha Budd
TL; DR: It was just okay. In my opinion, there are much better places to eat around NOLA for the $$$.
I made a reservation, but when we arrived, they seemed uncertain as to where to seat us and sent us upstairs. As many reviews here have mentioned, that's typical. Unfortunately, there wasn't a host upstairs to meet us and for a few minutes we stood at the top waiting to be seated. I booked this for an anniversary dinner so we were nicely dressed, but they made my SO put on a jacket anyway (which he took off when we were seated).
Table service was good. Brittany (sp?) was super sweet and provided recommendations. However, the food wasn't warm and mostly flavored just alright. I had a decent blackened redfish with crab topping (nothing to write home about) and my SO got the maple leaf duck (which was delicious, but still cold). My favorite dinner dish was the side - asparagus hollandaise. The bread pudding was the best part of the meal.
Honestly, the restaurant was beautiful and if the first impression had been better, it probably would've improved the overall experience. However, I still think there's a better option in the area.
Rachel Johns
My favorite restaurant in the city. My boyfriend and I dined here for the first time on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it! I made a reservation on in a whim. Service was consistent and on par with a restaurant of this caliber. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive, their recommendations were spot on and we felt cared for and appreciated. We started with the turtle soup and and the gumbo. I ordered stuffed eggplant and he had the lamb. I was so happy the restaurant had a sommelier on staff because we wanted a wine that would compliment both of our entrees —sorta difficult because white goes with fish and red with land animals. Even more difficult, we were only considering half bottles that night. But the som figured out our pallets very quickly and we both loved the Bolla he recommended. The spinach was great. Don’t get intimidated because it looks burnt when it comes out but I guarantee you it’s is delicious and creamy inside. The bread pudding was also very delightful. We will definitely be back.

Located near bourbon st. Didn't expect such a nice atmosphere, we were definitely under dressed next we'll go dressed to the nines as that's always fun. The food was moderately priced, not cheap but fit the ambiance perfectly. My steak was perfect. When we were there our waiter was also "waiting" on a table for a reality show while they filmed. Something about doctors and dr wives? We were ignored a little, but understand it was showtime!
Carolyn McCue
One of the oldest and best restaurants in New Orleans. Food was great.
Michael Gregory
Finally made it and it was worth the effort and money. Great neighborhood atmosphere I was not expecting.
Cara Murphy
We are from the Midwest visiting NOLA on vacation and planned to go here for a fine dining experience. The staff was friendly and helpful but the food and ambiance I would describe as dated. The drinks are extremely heavy. It felt like I was drinking straight from the bourbon bottle! The food was hit or miss. My dish was good but the peas were were obviously canned which I found to be unacceptable for a fine dining restaurant. Overall it was fine but not worth the price.
Tony beck
I have lived in the french quarter for 4 yrs and dine out often. Ate here on a thurs night. Pleased to find the dress code not strictly enforced. Cocktails were strong and well mixed. Food was fantastic, crabcake appetiser and lamb chops w bernaise rounded out the best fine dinning meal i have ever had in town so far. Thats right, this place edged out commanders palace as my all time favorite restaurant in New Orleans. Incredible.
Hospitality Of New Orleans
Galatoires is a fantastic place to dine. It has exquisite food and the service is wonderful. It is a great atmosphere to have events.
Gee Fan
After so many years of hearing about this amazing restaurant, we finally had the opportunity to eat here and we were not disappointed. Our waiter, who was a little quirky with a friendship bracelet and glasses holding his hair back like a headband, seemed slow in his pace but whether the service was slow or it was intentional, we were able to really enjoy our culinary experience rather than rushing or feeling rushed which only added to our enjoyment. The food was indeed excellent: tasty, fresh with a varied selection. Prices, I thought, were reasonable for the dishes prepared. We saved room for dessert and coffee which was a real treat and I would highly recommend the bread pudding.
Darian J
Classic New Orleans eatery. Love the ambience, the service, and the cuisine. Seafood reigns supreme here. Don’t skip the dessert! Drinks were amazing too. I would definitely return to Galatoire’s! Definitely make a reservation to be safe!
M B
Gotta be honest...I may have been disappointed because I had such high expectations.
Steak was well undercooked (rare/med rare instead of medium) and the onion rings were also undercooked. Fish meals were good enough but not as mind blowing as I had set myself up for.
There were some good pros though. The 209 cocktails were delicious, the duck crepe appy was insanely good and the spinach Rockefeller side was my favorite (dress in Tabasco!!!).
The service was exactly what I expected though. Absolutely impeccable. Warm, friendly, informative and accommodating. Our server was an awesome gal by the name of Jordan. She was amazing!!!
Overall, gave Galatoire's three stars because I think I could have had a better meal for much less money but the experience and service was worth it.
Jane Day
Food was fine, though I expected better than just fine from a restaurant that is such a bedrock of the French Quarter. Sitting near the doorway on a chilly, rainy evening was most uncomfortable, disappointed since we made reservations well in advance.
Rob Simmons
A lot of other spots in New Orleans have been under staffed and less than ideal, but I was blown away by the service and the quality of the food. Did not expect it, but Was surprised to say it was in my top 3 restaurants I’ve ever eaten in by taste alone.
G M
A great mid-to-high end casual/contemporary dining restaurant. Clothes suggest fine dining but it stops there. Quality of service is contingent upon group size and time of day. Go for poultry, lamb is adequate at best. Food warm to lukewarm but very tasty and exceptionally cooked. Too many tables in one room so it gets cozy to say the least.
Micah Bailey
I took two New Orleans clients and we had a nice dinner. The service was exceptional and the quality of food was great. I had the redfish with crabs on top. The bread pudding was good, but not the best. I wish I had ordered the gumbo, they said it was great. I was told the black bottom pecan pie was good too. Their signature cocktail was a little too sweet version of an old fashion style drink. FYI, coat is required. Overall good food and great service!
John Switzer
Took a couple of well-earned days off to go to NOLA recently on a weekend. Love the service and tradition of this "tried-and-true" establishment. Staff was eager to be of assistance and always ready to help. Food good but not outstanding, and certainly not worth the price. My wife was very happy with her selections (including foie gras), but my shrimp were swimming in an excessive amount of sauce that just made the dish feel like something from Waffle House. Don't get me wrong - I like Waffle House. But I don't want it at Galatoire's. Will we return? Yes, I'm sure one day. But I will be much more discerning with regard to my food choices. This is definitely a place to visit if you've never been. You'll be taken back in time in a way. Then you can decide whether it's worth a return visit.
Eliot kamenitz
The food is good but what really sense of place is the overwhelmingly friendly staff which is very accommodating. Any of the fish dishes are always very good as well are the appetizers especially the crabmeat Maison. Their bouillabaisse was okay. I love the setting and I love the place. It just makes you feel special and warm.
Jeff Cochrane
Very old fashioned, perhaps the last of its kind in New Orleans.
It’s a small dining room decorated in classic style, filled with great waiters, many who look like they’ve been doing this for decades. Our sub waiter kept the outstanding loaves of crusty French bread coming. Most tables looked to be occupied by regulars, and many were personally greeted by name at the door by the great nephew of the founder — it’s that kind of place.
Galatoires serves all the classics, well prepared. But lots of restaurants in New Orleans have great food. Galatoires is about tradition, atmosphere and service, best in town at this level.
Comparison? Among the old guard of my youth (1970s and 80s) Arnaud’s comes closest, but doesn’t quite match. Commander’s Palace is next, but service there has slipped with a tendency to hire younger waiters and staff with less training. Brennan’s these days delivers solidly mediocre service, improved somewhat from a few years back, but no match for the others on this list.
Gentlemen, don’t forget your jacket after 5pm, though if you do, they do keep a few extras by the door and may have one your size.
Daniel McFadden
They did a nice job handling our large group (ten people). Food was good, not amazing. Service was prompt, etc. I really have nothing to complain about specifically, it just didn't overwhelm any of my group. My steak was good, but a bit dry. Dessert was the clear winner, with the bread pudding and Pecan pie being the favorites.
Sama Ghoba
One of my best experiences at the very unique city of NOLA
oromis995
I ate here today and the service was excellent, Mr Charlie took really good care of us and made us feel very welcome. Our glasses were never empty and everyone was very pleasant. They made my grandmother's birthday very good.
The only thing is that it would have been nice to get bread plates.
Katrina Jones
The atmosphere was nice. Make sure to dress up not a casual place even though it is on Bourbon St. The food was amazing and our waitress mentioned specials that weren't even on the menu and made good suggestion pairings for them. Will go back again.
Mike Pool
Well, if you want to experience the best of New Orleans, this is your restaurant. The historic setting and upscale ambiance sets the mood for a memorable evening.
I tried the turtle soup. It is a tomato based, creole seasoned, chef quality interpretation. The result is a mildly spiced, intensely flavored turtle soup. Not many places offer this as a menu item, so I would recommend this as one of your selections.
If your attire leans a bit short of business formal, a full menu is available in their full service bar room. Cozy tables and comfortable bar stools are yours to choose from.
An attentive bartender will see to your drinks and food as you enjoy this modern step back in time.
Richard Pendlebury
Had a business dinner here while on a work trip to New Orleans. Food was excellent and waiter was top notch on taking care of us. Great selection of premium wines.
Dylan Smith
Galatoires is a very good restaurant, the atmosphere is southern colonial, the service is fantastic and attentive and the food is very good.
After 5:00pm they require suit jackets to be worn, however they have loaner coats at the front door to accommodate those that did not bring their own, I personally really like this it's a nice touch and one does not have to worry if they are under dressed to come to this restaurant.
I personally had the blackend red fish with crab and it was excellent, the fish was moist and flavorful as was the crab. I would defiantly recommend this restaurant to anybody.
T E
Walked in on a Friday night and was immediately seated. Pure luck because the place was packed. Server was friendly, helpful, and efficient. The food came out as it should and was absolutely delicious. Our table had a variety of food from the fresh catch to crab to NOLA traditional. All was out of this world. There's a reason this place has been open for decades. Great job! Will definitely go back on my next visit.
Jonathan Kirkpatrick
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and our waiter, Sonny, was perfectly attentive and made great suggestions for our entrees. I'm pretty picky, but I think the only negative I can think of was that it took the sommelier a while to locate the bottle of wine we ordered.
Gerald Wilson
Wonderful old Creole-French restaurant that requires men wear a jacket (tie optional). I never understood why people said to truly appreciate the experience, you should sit on the first floor, but now I do. Due to the size of our group (12) we elected to make reservations which placed us upstairs as the first floor is first-come, first served only. However, while the first floor is beautiful and open (where you can see the show of waiters and staff working in harmony) the upstairs is segmented, more conventional, somewhat tired and ultimately less special. The food is very good, but for the full experience try to sit downstairs.
Tyan Soo
We were in town for a conference and got a last minute reservation for our party of 6. We were lucky to have Brian as our server. I had the baked oysters which were decent..a bit over sauced or topped for my liking. Brian went over the turtle soup with me and I ordered that without hesitation. It was absolutely phenomenal. It came out steaming hot and the Sherry in the soup was phenomenal. Then I had the boudin stuffed quail. Brian explained that a local person made the boudin. Delicious!! We had three vegetarians in our group... Brian didn't hesitate to accommodate with salads and platters of sides for them to enjoy. Wine suggestions were on point. Brian was a phenomenal server and really made our meal perfect. Will definitely go back when I'm in town next.

I had such high expectations for last night's dinner. I've seen the menu online several times and everything sounded fantastic. It turns out Galtoires is right on bourbon st nestled between strip clubs. They demand a dress code with a jacket but deliver a loud and obnoxious sports bar atmosphere. Couldn't hear my server or even myself think. Was seated in the main dinning room which is where I thought I wanted to be till the entire dinning room broke out in a bday song like we were at applebees. I eventually moved to a different dinning room. Once again, entire dinning room breaks out in another bday song. The food was sort of mediocre. Compared to Commanders Palace where i was the night before, it was a major disappointment. Demand a dress code and jacket and deliver a sports bar experience. The service was 5 star service though. Both my servers in the two different dinning rooms were very welcoming and garcious.
Marty Helms
Oysters were fantastic! Careful with the horseradish, it is for real. Service was a little slow but friendly and the food was worth the wait.
Lisa Hall
It has held its own as a New Orleans landmark, and rightly so. The place, ambiance and service is superb, and it's undeniably NOLA all the way...classy and fun. The food is what upholds everything else! The food is amazing! I dream of their Crab and Shrimp Remoulade appetizer, but everything, everything is good. I've tried most of them, so many dishes, over many deliciously visits. P.S. Don't skip dessert!
uglydemon
Truly one of the country's best and most stories restaurants. The turtle soup is an Herby delight and the bread pudding puts all others to shame.
John Mcdermott
Came all the way from Omaha, Ne to eat. It was worth every penny. Great server very nice atmosphere awesome food a must stop when your in New Orleans Highly recommended
Rob Tulloh
Old style charm. You must have a jacket to dine here. Fortunately, they can provide one to you. Shrimp dishes we ordered we're all amazing. The waiter was excellent at leaving us alone and making sure our meal was coordinated perfectly.
Dawn Pruett
The filet is amazing. A required meal everytime we are in town.
Elbert Weinberger
Galatoires is a New Orleans institution, transcendent by seniority of contemporary concerns that fell many a newcomer to the industry. With tableau decorum which is unceasingly consistent, guest here are expected to dress the part if they wish to step into history. While the ambiance is delectable, it is not edible. The food served is not propped up by the brand like many of the other culturally signifigant establishments around town. The menu is very diverse and concentrates on seafood with offerings of French and Italian specialties. The wine list is extensive and they are quite proud of their cellars offerings by the prices noted. Appetizers ranging from escargot to pate will be served family style as will any of the sides. The entrées do not bother to sell anything but the focus of the selection. You order a filet, you get a filet and you add all the sides and toppers you wish. A dinner can expect complete control over their meal and entrust Galatoires to faithfully create your concoction. Dessert is not without mention either and while most restaurants have limited, pre-made, choices Galatoires has a litany of mousse, pie, and after dinner drink offerings. Any review without fair mention of negativites risk being disregarded and so I digress, if you have an aversion to salt then you have to move on down the line. If you do not own a sports coat you can only be there till 5 p.m. and not at all on Sunday, house rules. While the food is good, every native New Orleanian has eaten every dish featured so if you are looking for a gastronomic adventure move on down the line. This restaurante is not cheap and a couple will be over $250 easily if drinking. The negatives fall quite short of the positives and Galatoires really is a New Orleans institution that tells a story of its past with the numerous historical photos and relics on display. The kitchen works to please even though they could coast on their name. You will enjoy.
Johnnylawn79
Service was perfect. We went for lunch on a Thursday. Our cocktails were never empty our server made sure of it. I ordered the off menu fried chicken and thought it would be amazing. It was cooked perfectly with great crunch. It had no flavor though, nothing, totally bland. I ended up using everything I could to season it at the table. It's a NOLA Institution and i would give it another shot, just not the fried chicken
Adam Van Grover
A lot of history, a great location, and what feels like the local hangout in this historic building. Great food, exceptional service, and a friendly atmosphere were all felt. The service felt relaxed - in that I felt I had as much time as I needed, but was fast where it counted (like replacing my ice halfway through the meal). The food was classic creole done right. Quite expensive, and jackets required, but, as a destination experience it felt worth it.
Russell Landry
Food was well prepared and good quality, however the presentation was severely lacking. For example, order the broccoli, and they give you a whole head of broccoli ($5). The presentation of the main dish consisted of 2 lamb chops with a little dish of sauce on a large white plate ($44). The french bread and butter at the start of the meal was pretty bad. The french bread was cold, and the butter was room temp and did not melt on the bread. Eating cold bread with hard lukewarm butter is not the type of dining experience anyone wants to have. The problem with the food was that it was too simple and basic for the high price.
The dining room needs to be fixed and cleaned. The ceiling fans had spider webs and dust. The mirrors had fingerprints. Some of the light fixtures around the room were broken or bent upwards. I am not sure if this is the atmosphere the owners are going for or not...
The service was excellent, professional, and kind. The food came out from the kitchen in a timely manner. The wait staff was great at filling glasses/cups and taking plates/silverware away on time.
This place was too basic, and dirty for the price. 3rd star was because the wait staff was amazing, otherwise this place was a 2 star.
John Turner
I have to go with four stars here because the food just was not good. I get it, it’s old and traditional and everyone raves about it. I paid generously for my meal and drinks but I could have gone to a pizza place across the street, had a better meal and paid about 1/10. The service is top of the line for sure. The atmosphere is nice and pleasant. The restaurant is very clean but the food is mediocre at best.
Matthew Austin
Excellent service, lovely cocktails, and delicious food. The black drum was awesome.
jerry bauer
Chelsea B. Was a fantastic waiter. She made our table feel very much at home and like one of the family.
I tried way too many dishes and each one was quite good. The place was delightfully not loud and a welcome break from the barrage of noises outside.
It was an overall enjoyable dining experience and I will be back for more before I leave town.
Jim Sullivan
Elegant dining establishment. I don't often splurge on expensive dinners, but I'm glad I did at Galatoires. The food is excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving honest suggestions about our meal choices. He also gave helpful advice for places to see during our visit to New Orleans.
A Barnes
Very nice busy restaurant. Food and drinks were excellent. Service was great. Busy location on Bourbon Street. Definitely recommend for upscale dining.
Seth Ward
Amazing place, but consider a slower eating experience. It's great to sit and have a few cocktails then order some food. The food is amazing. I recommend to ask your waiter what they recommend. They will hook you up with some fantastic food from Galatoires!!!
Chris E
We went on a Saturday evening of a holiday weekend and this place was absolutely packed! We were sat at a small table jammed in the corner. It does have a neat ambiance to it... very lively and loud. Every ten minutes a waiter would cling a glass and announce someone’s anniversary or birthday which was neat at first but then after a while a tad annoying.
If you are looking for a place that is more low key, romantic and you get lots of personal attention... this really isn’t it.
Food was good. I had the black drum... it was good, little over cooked. My wife had the shrimp etouffee which was amazing. Incredibly flavorful.
It was an experience and in the heart of the French Quarter... you should probably experience it once buuuuut for $30/plate I would expect a little more personal service and to be honest bigger portions.
Mark Boylan
Maybe the best authentic New Orleans experience we have ever had. Phenomenal experience. Great food and drinks. Great atmosphere. Friday lunch is incredible.
Victoria S
Vastly dissappointing. Expensive. Food was just okay. Actually, my least favorite meal of our NOLA trip. The wait staff was solid, but you could tell that they weren’t excited about what they were serving. My husband got the trout with crab and I got the shrimp marguery. The trout was okay, a little greasy. The Shrimp Marguery was not good at all. I couldn’t finish it. It was gravy with some shrimp and mushrooms in it, literally. Go somewhere else if you’re looking for a great fine dining experience. We would recommend Cafe Sbisa, or for something a bit more casual but also delicious, Adolfo’s.
Keisha
Food and service was superb. This was our first visit to Galatoires. We went to Galatoires to celebrate our birthday. I had the ribeye topped with jumbo lump crab and butter sauce, my dinner companion had the turtle soup and crab & asparagus omelette. We shared a side of spinach rockafella. The. Waitress and food was on point. I definitely recommend this Resturant.
Jisoo K
For the $$$ bill I expected a better meal. The bread and frisee salad were tasty, but the black duck was quite salty and dry - and I've had plenty of better scallops. Service staff were friendly but the meal overall was underwhelming.
Frank Capalbo
A superlative meal in every respect - apps, entrees, sides, desserts. Expensive, but you don’t come here to save money, and one of the rare examples of getting that for which you pay. Excellent wine list, and our choice did not disappoint. Service was among the best we have encountered anywhere. The only negative was saying goodnight. If I could afford to eat there every night - flying down from NYC and back - I would do it. This is not the last time I will visit.
Brian W. Kittrell
Another one of my favorites. Food, service, atmosphere. None will disappoint. Amazing gumbo; probably the best in the city. They do have a dress code and though you may feel shorts are appropriate then go back to change into pants. And consider a blazer.
David Greenlees
This is and an old and well known place. Waiters are in Tuxedos and tables have white table cloths. In my opinion the food was ok. I had the Crab Vadoue (sp?) which was fairly tasteless and the spinach looked like it came from a frozen package. My wife had a shrimp dish that she liked. I had a Milk Punch that tasted like I was drinking perfume. It's supposed to have cream or half and half, vanilla and no ice. Not so with this one. Service was very good but.
Chris Mills
The food is good (not great) and the atmosphere is nice. Men must wear a jacket to dine there so it kind of feels fancy but then waiters will have the room sing Happy Birthday so it kind of seems like an Applebee's. Not a bad place but nothing too out of the ordinary.
Adrian R
I was very disappointed on my visit. We were in NOLA for my birthday weekend and my fiancee booked dinner here expecting it to be special since it touts itself as an upscale place.
The hostess didn't even say "welcome" or had any pleasant greeting for us. Just asked if we had a reservation and then took us to our table.
The dining room is way too crowded with tables, so if you're expecting a more intimate experience, you can forget about that. The place was super loud and I could touch 3 different tables aside from ours without a full extension of my arm.
Our server was very stiff and unknowledgeable of the menu. There's a menu item that says "Daily Fish Selection", when I asked her what these were, she just said "Everything we have is on the menu" and proceeded to name all the fish items already listed on the menu in a very annoyed tone.
My fiancee said it was my birthday and instead of even the slightest pleasant remark, the server annoyed exclaimed "Do we HAVE to sing? because I don't even know his name" ... I wasn't really expecting a free desert or even for them to actually sing, but this is literally the most impolite thing she could have said.
We asked for the sommelier and the waitress initially refused saying that we should have a Sauvignon Blanc with our crab appetizer. I insisted we speak to the sommelier because they had an extensive wine list beyond just Sauvignon Blanc. The sommelier was much more pleasant but had literally no idea about wines. His descriptions of flavor profiles and pairing recommendations were WAY off.
The one positive is that the food was expertly cooked and really good, but the severe lack of service quality made the evening a much less pleasurable experience. If this had been a jack in the box, I'd be ok with the service, but since they advertise themselves as a high end place that you can't even enter without wearing a jacket, I expected MUCH more.
I felt really bad because my fiancee bursted them to be part of our celebration and they let her down. Luckily she's awesome :)
I'd say beware of this place. The good food was definitely not worth the unpleasant service. Go to Commanders Palace; the prices are about the same and they'll treat you like royalty.
Robert Kolesnik
Beautiful restaurant and wonderful service. Bread is crusty and flavorful. The escargot were outstanding, with incredible garlic butter. The crab maison was tasty and a steal at the price. I had duck (breast and thigh); agaon, the portion was extremely generous and so delicious. Jackets are required for gentlemen, but they have loaners. This is a restaurant not to be missed!
Sam Fritz
We went here with a group of 12 for Sunday brunch. Arrived at 11:30 and had mimosas at the upstairs bar, which is kinda small but elegant. Waited about 15 minutes once we were seated to see a server. But after that they kept our waters and wine bucket filled. The food is traditional New Orleans. Everyone loves the fried chicken with ketchup here. I loved the stuffed eggplant. Very fun atmosphere. Dress up!
Farrah Powell
Loved this hidden gem on Bourbon Street. Tucked away from all the craziness, that is bourbon. Amazing food and drinks that tout. A must try are the noble potato souffles!!
Key! !
Lovely atmosphere. Waiter Ralph was professional, warm, attentive, and more! I will go again for sure. We got what Ralph recommended. Crabmeat Yvonne, we also had a couple of soups they recommended. All the seafood is fresh! DELICIOUS! Great portion size you Will be full.
Pete Schreiber
NOLA classic. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Service is classy, yet very accommodating.
Chuck Wasson (Fosod)
A time capsule of classic days; hat and jacket hooks on the walls, hand stenciled walls to replicate the original wallpaper. The food and service was equally classic and wonderful. Ending dessert with a coffee served with its own small pitcher and warmed milk is just an example of theur experience.

Food was reliable and fresh. You can tell that this was a wonderful place at one time. The service could be so much better. Clearing the table, filling the water, all the typical basics were underwhelming. In a foodie teon such as NOLA, it should have been outstanding.

The food made up for the rest of this dining experience. When making our reservation the expectation was set that this would be a nice, classy restaurant. Our table felt like it had been placed there just to try and fill an empty space even though it was a bad traffic location. Our table was not ready when we were sat so our plates and utensils arrived in rounds after we were seated. We were not greeted by our waitress for atleast 10 mins after sitting and she then proceeded to be a bit awkward and gruff through out our meal. They give you a great bread that's delicious but super flaky and impossible to not get on the table while trying to tear your pieces off. This wouldn't have been an issue if our table could have been cleaned off before our meal but it was not so I just used my hand to try and clear it up. If not for the amazing food this would have been an incredibly disappointing experience. The front of house needs to match the level of the kitchen. The pork chop that I had was the most amazing piece of meat I have consumed. It was cooked to perfection. We started with the duck crepe which did not disappoint and neither did our cocktails. The feeling was that of a restaurant trying really hard to be fancy but falling short.

Great, great, great steak. The best I've had in 10 years. The service was excellent.
The waiter, Jason, was a true professional. As an added plus he looks just like Kingpin from the new Daredevil series. You got the feeling he could rage at any moment and snap your neck.
Marcus Jones
Great food and customer service. Make sure you make reservations days in advance. Try the Duck Gumbo. So good, I got 2 bowls

Enjoyed a lovely and delicious dinner celebrating my 30th Birthday and couldnt recommend this establishment more. From Birmingham, Alabama and the Maitre'D informed us that our hometown was where the original Restaurant and Inn was before he traveled to The Chicago World's Fair and then settled in New Orleans. Service was outstanding, the building was beautiful, and will definitely visit again for special occasions and milestones.

It's been over ten years since I've eaten at Galatoire's, and nothing has been lost in the interim. Absolutely sublime Creole food served in high style by extremely talented waitstaff. It's not cheap, but definitely worth the time and money. Highly recommended.
Chris Durden
Always a 10 on food and service. Real dining experience!

First visit from Chicago, Amazing waittress brie offered me amazing choices which included gator plate, and shrimp po' boy. I'm in love. Definitely can't wait to visit again with my friends and family.

Dined 3/18/18. What is principal item on menu? What did they not have available that evening? Yes...same thing.....Crabmeat.
Escargot and pate' excellent. Sweetbread also. Oysters Rockefeller not so much.
Spinach great.
What is my favorite Southern dessert? Pecan Pie. Also not available.
Service was good but a bit rushed. Overall 3 stars due to disappointment in availability of specialties.

Galatoires is a beautiful venue. The service was great and the location excellent for people-watching the southern diversity of Louisiana. Our bill came to $195.00 + the Tip for 1 appetizer, 2 soups, 2 entrees, wine for two and 1 desert. We typically agree to spend up to
$250 for at upscale estabilishments so their prices are reasonable. Our servor (I'm bad w/names) a young white male - was prompt, appropiate in conversation and amazing! A member of management visited us/every table & ensure all was up to par. I ordered the turtle soup which smelled great but was dissappointingly bland, despite having adding copious amounts of Sherry. My husband ordered the Gumbo & we exchanged loving words over who'd be allowed to get the last spoonfu! My husband and I both agree their Gumbo is delectable! We also had the Redfish w/crabmeat and it was superb + the wine menu is vast! It is a "Dress up a bit" environment. Men ensure you wear sports coats, and ladies look nice when visiting this one. We plan to return with Friends.

It's expensive. It's loud. It's pretentious. And it's the most glorious Friday lunch I've ever had. If you want to see and be seen in New Orleans, enjoy a true liquid lunch and have a blast with your friends, this is the place to go. You'll have a tough time getting a reservation. You'll have a tough time figuring out what's going on while you're there. You'll never regret it and never forget it.

New Orleans' Best! We had a wonderful meal. Service was top notch. The food was classic New Orleans' faire cooked to perfection. We were amazed to be able to walk in and get a table right away.

We had a celebratory dinner on a Saturday night. Fantastic food and atmosphere. We had brian as our server. This restaurant is a nice break from the rowdy bourbon street. Highly recommend!

When I think of New Orleans I think of Galatoire's. Yes the food and drinks were top notch. The service excellent, but Rashad our service assistance brought this experience to life. He is the embodiment of hospitality.
Nicolas Diaz
Good food and service, but had higher expectations. A late dinner reservation during the weekend made the noise coming from Bourbon Street very distracting for conversation. Dress atire makes you really stick out when you leave late at night and no one around is wearing a dress jacket.
Diana Smith
This is always in my must go spots in New Orleans. Definitely a bit different since Covid but Charlie was amazing and made our experience as wonderful as possible. The oysters Rockefeller and crab and asparagus omelette were wonderful.
CarLo ThaStrippa
This place was very upscale, I didn't have a jacket but they provided me with one. The staff was very polite and helpful. Everything we ordered was so delicious! And the cocktails were great too!

Was late to the game in making any reservation, therefore a larger group of 5 was hoping they'd have room for us on the main floor 'reserved' for walk-ins. Karen, the wonderful hostess, worked her magic and we didn't have to wait for too long. Our waiter, SKIP (otherwise known as chip to some), was absolutely accommodating, incredible and provided a wonderful supper service. Everything ordered from duck crepe, steak, crab au gratin, sides, fish and shrimp were incredible.

Galatoires is one of the finest dining experiences you will ever find in my great city of New Orleans Louisiana, and that is a tough review to beat. Within my city of which choosing a favorite place to dine is is rather hard to pin point just one, and this is due to the huge number of great places in which to eat. New Orleans is the finest at so many things but in the world of greatest eatery's... We are hands down the BEST in this field. Galatoires is one of the TOP leaders in this area of finest dining in the world I feel.
Jeffrey Aultman
It's average. Granted, it has over 100 years of history, but that doesn't change the fact the food is just okay. There's nothing special except what happens outside on Bourbon St., which is nonstop activity. If you want better than average, if not a far above average food experience, get away from Bourbon St. and head towards neighborhoods like the Garden District. Yes, it'll cost more and be dull by comparison to Bourbon St., but the food is well worth some walking and a 10-minute streetcar ride.
Rolonda Mayer
Best old world dining and service in New Orleans! Go here to see how it is done. See everyone in the world who matters! Do Friday lunch or your birthday! Simply the whole dining room will stop and sing when your cake comes out and your waiter calls for their attention!
Spencer Morris
While the reputation precedes it, this classic NOLA eatery is past its prime. Their once legendary service seems to have faltered, and the exceptional food has lost pace with the current culinary climate. Not that classical French cuisine had no place on today's palate, but it felt like they've given up. A heavy reliance on salt and broken sauces were the main features at our table this visit. That being said, the main entrees (Filet and Pompano) were delicious, unfortunately the sides and service felt like they'd given up.
Joanne Torres
If you forget your jacket you’ll be able to have the same exact delicious meal at the bar. I like how they understand this and give people the option to dine at the bar. I love tradition but I am not going to be in the sweltering summer heat dressed to the nines, that doesn’t mean I can’t pay.
Aaron Hanz
Of course it was packed and always so loud it's not easy to carry on a conversation, but the food makes it a worth destination. The mixed seafood appetizer delighted the table and my Trout Amandine delighted me! It's nice to visit a restaurant that understands their diners actually appreciate finding crab meat in the dishes that contain crab meat.
Alison Zink
Let's be honest, you don't really come here for the food. It's all about the experience. Come, preferably on Fridays at lunch, and sit in the downstairs dining room. Don't make reservations for the upstairs - it's not as fun, and it's kind of a tourist trap. The food is simply prepared, and you'd be well-advised to take advice from your waiter on what to order. Don't be a afraid to have a few drinks at lunch - you'll feel left out if you don't.
Ronald “Jay” Theriot
We had the lunch special- boiled drum for her and fried shrimp for him. We did not like our waiter's service (she commented that he should spend less time clowning with his friends in the back room and more time doing work at work), but the bread, wine, and salad were very good, as were the drum (he commented that the drum was excellent) and the shrimp (which were not really better or worse than what someone can get at about 100 other places in New Orleans). We both found the dessert (bread pudding for her & custard for him) to be exceptional. Overall, this is a very good, yet not great restaurant. We both agreed that, to be fair, we need to make a 2nd visit for supper and sample a steak dinner. RJT

Don't waste your time. Highly overrated in a city with too many other great options. Food was 3 but atmosphere was 2.5.
Dress code requires a jacket for men. Website doesn't advertise it but they do have loaners available.
Wine selection is solid but by-the-glass options we tried were only good paired with food.
Service was unrefined. This was a little surprising considering the $ per person and dress code. Wait staff also dressed more formally.
Food tasted fresh but was unimpressive. Mostly they failed to pay attention to details. (Lump crabmeat app - meat was broken down into pieces and served on a bed of coarsely chopped iceberg with a halved tomato slice. Crab tasted good but the presentation was from McDonalds.) Not consistent with the price tag. Save your money and go elsewhere.
My overall impression is that this place was a "nice" place at one point but is dying with age and neglect.

Great food! However, when making reservations men wearing a coat was “strongly recommended,” but it was never relayed as required. After waiting for 10 minutes in front of the hostess and other staff, we were seated and nobody stated a coat was required. In fact, a lady was eating in the dinning room wearing a sweat shirt, another wearing leggings, and a gentleman was wearing jeans, and another not wearing a coat as well. However, the manager approached our table, in front of several others in our party, and called out my husband for not wearing a coat. The others were never called out and not required to get up and put a coat on or change their attire. It was embarrassing and discriminating due to inconsistency. Not acceptable!
Nathan English
Food was good as usual. Service was off, the sides where not put in with the rest of the meal and the server had to leave in the middle to take some one to the hospital. I would still highly recommend going if you are in town, great atmosphere and food.
Susan Fonger
I had the trout Amandine - so perfect it is hard to describe in words. Our wait staff was superb. It was a bit noisy due to New Year's celebrations and Birthday parties, but if you can raise your voice, this dining experience is hard to beat.
P Newcombe
Demond gave us tour of the place, Tres bien!!! (Sp)😗 See you there next Saturday? ~ I wish... …

Food was fantastic, very extensive wine list, but the service didn't live up to the reputation.
Still a must visit when in nola.

Fantastic food and service with a wonderful atmosphere! Highly recommend the Stuffed Eggplant, it's definitely a must-try dish. Overall an amazing experience!

I go to this restaurant regularly--at least once every 2 weeks--for their buffet-à-volonté (all you can eat) lunch for 9,50 €. While not an expert on Thai cuisine, I like the variety of offerings and flavors, (fish-eating) vegetarians should not have problems. Offering of fresh fruit for dessert.

I went once for my bachelorette party and again five years later. It’s still really great food. Our server was amazing and had great recommendations. I got the trout, and it was really good!!
Katie E Hoffman
Always outstanding. The food is delicious. It is a new orleans staple. I highly recommend the whole experience. You will definitely see a lot of different fun characters, the wait staff is amazing, food and drinks are bountiful and amazing. I've never left unhappy. Great place that will leave you with the best memories!

Good food, good service what else you want

It is impossible to me that there were ANY not incredible reviews.
I do frequent nice restaurants all the time and this is by far one of the best. Incredible atmosphere goes with out saying The service was impeccable (for those of you who may have read the review about the crumber - they had gold crummers and used them expertly) and the food was perfect. Even after the build up of waiting so long to come here it exceeded expectations.
Eddie Rodriguez
Fantastic service. Great food! We had the shrimp creole, ribeye, lemon fish, xrab au grautin, broiled redfish with crabmeat yvonne with sides. So delicious. The bread pudding, chocolate bottom pecan pie, custard, and cotte was amazing! Definitely recommend! Kaitlin was our waitress and was very attentive.

I visited here on Thanksgiving with family. While the food and service were good, the advertised Thanksgiving dinner was not being offered because the restaurant had amazingly run out of turkeys. That said, the standard menu impresses for a restaurant of such price and style. I would consider going back.
Virginia Shoemake
It was very very loud in the restaurant. No one could talk. Waiters were super nice abd dressed to a tea. Food was good.

Food was terrific. Our server, Skip made it an enjoyable experience. I highly recommend it.

Great service, interesting, yet subtle Cajun flavor. If you are a Martini drinker, ask for extra olives. I received a small bowl abounding in different olives! It was heavenly! These martinis were 10 star!
Donald Dickerson
Best steak in New Orleans. YES I said steak. If I had to knit pick I'd say the potatoes au gratin were to me sub par but I'm sure that is just because I'm used to it being prepared a different way.
Service was great but we went at like 6pm so not many people were there.
If you get the steak make sure to get it medium because they know how to make it without getting all that blood coming out like other places.
10 star place if I say so myself.
Oh and there's a dress code for a reason "to all the haters on here writing bad reviews".
Ms. S.
The food was pretty good, but our service was slow. The location is right in the middle of the action in the French Quarter. The food was not overwhelming, it was okay to me.
yanninotmyname
Good meal, slow pace. Walk don't park, plenty of places to eat, this one was one of my favorites.
Christine Smith
Outstanding food. A definite must if you're visiting from out of town, but keep in mind some of the food is heavy. I lived in New Orleans for 7+ years and first heard about the restaurant by word of mouth from the locals. They told me what to order and I was not disappointed in any way, exceeded my expectations. I would recommend the oysters en brochette - oysters wrapped in bacon and lightly deep friend. The potato souffle is unique, like a puffed potato chip and delicious when dipped in bearnaise sauce. Crabmeat Yvonne is one of my favorite entrees. Their crab meat is very fresh. The soft shell crab is not frozen - they only serve fresh as well. In fact they will top any fish or entree with crab meat at your request. I had sea bass one time years ago and it was amazing. Excellent sides I enjoyed included the portabello mushrooms and creamed spinach as well as non creamed. I've always enjoyed the bread pudding for desert. There are many other wonderful dishes to try at Galatoires, but these were my favorites. I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. A New Orleans classic style restaurant, in my opinion.
Justin
Very happy with my meal at this fixture of Old New Orleans. The food was great, Martine, our server, was even better. I will return!
John Hutchinson
Friday evening walk in at 6:30 with no reservation, immediately seated, plenty of tables on first floor. Our server, Imre was gracious and patient with all our questions. Shrimp remoulade was outstanding as was the crab Yvonne. strong vodka martini with a whole plate of olives. My folks had their usual Manhattans, also very good. I don't get all the stuff about having people wait in line. We had a great time, highly recommended.
Staci Mumford
So amazing. Had the filet and it was cooked perfectly. Thanks to the amazing staff!

Could be better on the service.. the grill was excellent..

You can't go to New Orleans without going to the French Quarter/Bourbon Street, and while you're there, eat at Galatoires. The food is fresh, varied and well-prepared. Try to sit downstairs rather than let them bury you upstairs; the service is better downstairs. Birthday celebrations are a treat -- trust me on this.
Sean McDonnell
The food, the waitstaff, and the cocktails were fabulous! First time there and when, not if, I'm back in the Big Easy I will definitely head to Galatoires.
Amy Higgins
This is my Dad's favorite place in the Big Easy. I went there for dinner by myself one night. It's more of a high-end, fancy restaurant, but without all the judgement. Once I stepped over the drunks and puke ridden streets on Bourbon St., I walked into a very classic New Orleans place - complete with black and white tiled floors and laughter through the air. The place was noisy and full of excitement. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. Oh, and the food was to die for! My only regret is that I went there alone, which means I couldn't order everything off the menu and try a bite of each. Plus, they are the only place I tried in New Orleans that made a perfect sazerac (believe me, I tried a few).
