Reviews of Compère Lapin

Beyond impressed! The service alone was wonderful. However, the food was just spectacular! We are really in to food and there was literally nothing that disappointed in ANY way! The atmosphere was wonderful. You can be super dressy or casual. If you can definitely at least grab a snack!

Absolutely wonderful food, service, and experience overall.
The crab fingers need to be a thing everywhere. So delicious. They're cold and served with a delicious spicy dip. They're addictive and tasty.
I ordered a pasta dish with coconut braised chicken.. *chef's kiss* it was creamy without being creamy, and the dark meat chicken gave the dish so much flavor.
My wife ordered the market fish over a fish stew. The market fish was red snapper. The "stew" was almost a stew reduction. The flavor was very concentrated and the vegetables were cooked appropriately and absorbed the wonderful flavors of the broth.
We also ordered the smoked fish dip with lavash. Also a wonderful choice!
Our cocktails were also top notch.
Definitely give Nina's place a shot - wonderful food!!

This place has a great ambiance, service was excellent and very attentive. The food and cocktail were good. The only think I would have preferred is that the Jamaican stew on the fish and cilantro rice would have been on the side or poured less. It was too strong and overpowered the whole dish. But overall totally recommended.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! - elegant Caribbean food doesn’t really do this place justice, the food is amazing! Really high end presentation in this hip buzzy joint, very pretty restaurant, great ambiance, super helpful team waitress and team and a RIDICULOUS WINE LIST! Wine list is brilliantly curated, broad range of wines across multiple price points, geographies, varietals etc. a MUST VISIT next time you’re in NOLA!

Enjoyable new-Caribbean food that makes it worth a stop.
The blackened pig ears is very enjoyable - it’s all oily and airy crunch, with the cartilage serving as the only remaining discernible part. It feels sticky and tough in an intentionally over fried way. The herb smoked aioli is heavenly.
The broiled shrimp is immersed in a particularly satisfying yet salty butter sauce with a fun spice. It’s cooked such that the shell and head give a nice crunch, but it’s a little too salty to eat the shell. The meat is slightly over cooked and does not peel easily, but overall it’s done decently well.
The curry goat with sweet potato gnocchi has a paradoxically rich curry sauce that feels like it’s missing any aftertaste - no satisfying creaminess, sweetness, or buttery recall. Instead, it’s supplemented by a subtle sweet potato gnocchi. It’s quite an interesting combination; it places the emphasis on the large pieces of gnocchi. The cashew nuts do a fun job while the goat breaks apart easily with each bite.

Outstanding.
Small intimate menu.
The crispy pig ears are worth any drive/wait.
Would order the cold smoked tuna tartare with avocado and crispy bananas again.
The scialatielli little neck clams with a perfectly cooked pasta did not disappoint.
Oddly enough, the pork belly didn’t stand out compared to everything else.
Make reservations.
Too cool for school ambiance.

Biscuits were amazing, pork belly melted in my mouth. Hush puppies were a little too fried and salty for my taste, but everyone else liked them. The ceviche was good, but could have used a few more chips for dipping.

Lord have mercy! What a feast of the senses. I crown this the best restaurant I ate at during my four day trip. The food is just out of this world. The biscuits? *faint*. The fried chicken with slaw? *faint*. Just dash there ASAP and ask for the corner couple booth by the window for the best date spot in town.

Compère Lapin is a truly delicious experience. ❤️ The food menu looks a little small yet packs a punch. There's a beautiful selection of wines by the bottle. Bartenders are informative and friendly.

Food was great, especially the crawfish and cauliflower soup was delicious. We also had the half fried chicken brined perfectly and the strawberry panna cotta was perfection. Decor and ambiance was lovely however one important feedback item is that random people from outside kept wandering into the bar, which was right next to where we were dining. Old obnoxious groups of men in tshirts and shorts kept manspreading into our personal space with their sweaty arms and elbows (right into my husbands face) and kept turning over to stare at us - it was really ruining the vibe of an upscale ambiance. It felt like they were intentionally wanting to make us uncomfortable and made me feel awful. We mentioned it to one of the servers who was a BOSS and kicked them out “you're going to have to leave now these people are trying to dine!”. I didn’t get a chance to thank her so THANK YOU!!! She was amazing but it would be even better if they had a system to keep these people in the lobby and serve them outside of the dining area if they wanted to drink.
Aside from that our server was great. Very communicative and attentive.

This review is not what I expected to write after my long awaited visit to New Orleans to specifically eat at CL. It honestly was the most expensive meal we had over our 5 day visit and it was my most disappointing meal of the trip. Everything was presented beautifully. The highlights of our meal were the Little Gem Lettuce/Cilantro Coconut Dressing/ Crispy Shallots and the Blackened Pig Ears/Smoked Aioli. I would return to eat those! The hush puppies were a little dry compared to the several orders we tried over our trip. The tuna ceviche was ok but could of done without it. The fish collar special was different and I’m glad we tried it but wouldn’t order again. My pork belly was done very nicely but my friends was tough and not as enjoyable as mine. The clams and curried goat were fine. The roasted half chicken was so salty you couldn’t eat much of it on its own you had to have all the components on the plate to try and mellow it out. I really like salt but this was too much. For dessert I had the Bolivian Chocolate Cake/Passionfruit/Cashews. The cake part was nice however the passion fruit sorbet on top had no flavor and just added a cold element. I thought it was just me so I had my friend who really dislikes passion fruit try it and she didn’t get anything from it either. Our server also seemed off. While he served us and was polite he kind of took away from our experience. Maybe it was an off night as Chef Nina was out of town closing down her pop up in New York. I have followed her career since first seeing her on Top Chef. I will continue to cheer her on and maybe give CL another chance.

This review is so long overdue but nevertheless, Compere Lapin is one of the best restaurants in the crescent city. Easily.
Chef Nina is a hero of mine and I always make a point to dine here whenever I am in New Orleans. Her story and her approach to food is what really draws diners in but the food itself is what keeps people coming back for more and more.
Nothing you get here will disappoint you.

Love food from Chef Nina Compten, but she also hires the most amazing staff. We'd been to the bar before and had a great bartender, but our waitress was equally amazing! Food is utterly delectable as well

We literally shut the restaurant down! Everything we ordered was so delicious we had to try one more thing, and we were laughing with the staff for hours. We had champagne toasts, homemade biscuits, and a chilled cauliflower soup that made me reconsider not being a vegetarian full time. This was the perfect place for a girl's night out to reconnect with old friends, escape the Nola heat and have full bellies before a night out on the town. Would go back again in a heartbeat!
Erica Coca
The food was amazing! The roasted cashews with the chocolate cake had such a delicious taste and kick to them. Would definitely visit next time I'm in NOLA. Love the bunnies :)

We had the best meal of our entire trip at Compère Lapin. The food was excellent and really stands out even amongst the general creative food scene of New Orleans. We really enjoyed our meal, and a core part of that experience was our fantastic waitress, Mignon. She made us feel so welcome, was full of funny stories, and almost seemed psychic in how she could predict our orders and what we wanted to try (no, seriously, if she’s your waitress she may know your order before you do!). Cannot recommend this place enough for a great dining experience, try to see if you can request Mignon
as your server!

In staying at the Old 77 Hotel. We had the pleasure of dining here. We were unable to reserve a table but sat at the bar. Full menu.
Service was amazing and Food and cocktails were even better! A must if you are in the area!!!!
Aidan Hale
We had excellent service and all of the dishes were phenomenal! I can’t wait to come back! The highlights were the pig ears, the biscuits with two kinds of butter, the broiled shrimp with Calabrian butter, the blackened summer vegetables, and the crème brûlée! Nina Compton won Top Chef BY A MILE! I don’t care what anyone says…
Timothy Hannan
Wish I could rate as 4.5 stars. The food was fantastic, every course had lots of flavor. The wine list is extensive and we found a great wine to pair with dinner. Atmosphere is nice although it can get loud. The service was ok, no major issues but the attentiveness was spotty and a little slow. Still highly recommend as it wasn’t a major detraction.
Kivanc Onan
Fantastic food. Strongly recommend. The cocktail options are also well worth the visit

Made reservation three days before arrival in NOLA. Seated by host and table was not to our liking. After consultation moved to a much batter location. Cocktails were well dressed. Server Andrew came to our two top and kneeled as he spoke to us about menu and choices. A nice touch which I appreciate. Curried Goat dish is the signature so I chose that. It is cooked hours to fall off the bone style. Sweet potato gnocchi. Gnocchi is hard to make and these were quite good. The combination of tastes were unique. Partner had the pasta and chicken and enjoyed the spice variation which was enough to awaken the mouth but not so much as to diminish the effect. We shared a chocolate cake and it was chocolatey without being overly so. Everything we had contained the essences of the ingredients without an over abundance of any.

LOVE IT. sit at the bar if you can! The bartenders are great, and the food is amazing. The goat with sweet potato gnocchi was DELICIOUS. The hush puppies were the best I’ve had. The menu has a nod to some wonderful entertainment media (Monty python, anyone?), and the drinks are magnificent.
Jimmy Moran
The food in this place is amazing! ❤️ one of the best diners we have ever had in town.
Michael Florence
I was a little worried about booking this reservation because the menu felt a bit adventurous. It was - in the best possible way - but it was still accessible. To start, the space is gorgeous. It’s a mix of industrial and classic genteel New Orleans but with a twist. The bar was pretty and the art on the walls was super fun. I didn’t get her name but our server was the best I’ve had. She was helpful and informative without being too over the top (read: annoying). She answered every question about the cocktail and meal options. She somehow came by just when we needed her and let us eat and chat otherwise. She was as perfect as I think it’s possible to be.
Leticia Quezada
I can’t say enough good things about the food. The gulf shrimp pasta and the Bolivian chocolate cake are a must. On top of that, we had an incredibly attentive server who was able to get us in and out in less than an hour so that we could make a show after dinner. Truly appreciate the efficient, friendly service and fun atmosphere. Thank you!

I live in New Orleans and, of course, have the most incredible restaurants around me, 24/7. Five of us have formed a small dinner party club, and we visit a restaurant once a month. For the summer months, we selected restaurants that are attached to hotels. September featured Compere Lapin. We were just in awe of the flavors and profiles of all our dishes; I ordered a mango salad, curried goat, and Bolivian chocolate cake. We ordered many different items, so we tasted more of the menu.
Erik Davis
I also wasn't super hungry, so I asked the bartender what her recommendation would be for a small bite to eat. She recommended ordering the biscuits and the shrimp. The biscuits were absolutely divine with both the sweet and savory butters. And the shrimp were so succulent and juicy. The whole meal was delicious, even though I only ordered from the appetizer menu.
Matt Way
We were visiting for our honeymoon and had to stop at Nina’s place. All the food was amazing - biscuits and butter, little gem lettuce salad, curried goat, hot fire chicken, and cocoa nib sundae were all perfect. The service was even better, Summer was a terrific waitress. Cannot recommend this experience enough.
Jeff Hilligoss
Our experience at Compère Lapin was a delight for the senses. We loved our evening there and thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried. Fantastic wine list with a full page up front dedicated to women winemakers with killer wines to satisfy any palette. And the service is superb.
Megan Janssen
The food was absolutely amazing. It was such a fantastic dining experience. The staff picked our meal items for us and everything was so good! They also took our dietary restrictions into consideration. I would highly recommend!
Snow Foxy
Excellent food! Love the pig ears, crab fingers, Red Snapper, chocolate cake. Services great with homemade lemonade. Just wish I had more room to order and try all dishes! Must try.
Callie Phelps
Yummy! The menu is small but delicious, with gluten free options. It changes often and the wait staff will walk you through what and how to order depending on your dietary needs, hunger, and food preferences. Our waitress was so wonderful! It's cozy yet spacious inside.
Justin Hamby
The flavorful cuisine and attention to detail/presentation made this place a must-visit for any foodie. The complex and layered techniques elevated each dish and left us not only full, but also floored by the creativity.

Coming in with expectations but the best, Compere Lapin overwhelming delivered one of the best dining experiences we've had. We went on Valentine's Day 2021 and was given a specially prepared 4 course meal. Each course was fantastic, notably the lobster and gnocchi dish that was out of this world. All of their ingredients were of the highest quality you can find and the flavors synthetized perfectly. I am delighted to say that I will be prioritizing Compere Lapin every time I visit NOLA.

Really like this place. Great combination of flavors and creativity. Service was great and the ambiance was on point. Drinks were good. There Frozen drinks were good, just be careful as they seem to get stronger. Might be from adding to the machine without starting new batch. Either way still good. Definitely give this place a go. 👍👍

We were staying next door at the Kimpton hotel and wanted an outside place to have dinner (we had our dog with us.) No one was eating outside, July in New Orleans... they graciously allowed us to eat outside which I know can be a hassle for staff. The server could not have been nice and so professional! There were so many temping things on them menu we decided to just order several small dishes so we could enjoy tastings. Every dish we tried was fantastic! We were so pleased with everything - service, food and for accommodating us, thank you! We will certainly return next time we are in NOLA.
Jason McDowell-Green
One of the best dining experiences of my life. The service was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and most importantly…genuine. The food lives up to all its hype and should not be missed.
Eric Salgado
The restaurant was fantastic in every single way. This server was sweet and funny. I was impressed by how much she knew about all the dishes. The drinks were very tasty and the food was clearly made with passion for flavor and quality. Loved my experience here.
Antonia Hadjimichael
We enjoyed our lunch at Compere Lapin but we weren’t blown away (maybe it was an off day). We particularly liked the goat curry, and we also really enjoyed the snapper and the tuna tartare. The marinated shrimp was fine but nothing special. We also really liked the cocktails we ordered. Service was perfect. The decor of the place is also very tasteful.
Michael Blane
We had a wonderful, Anniversary dinner. Good cocktails, excellent wine, great food, friendly knowledgeable personable staff. We will stop in when we next visit NOLA.
Tom Chute
Excellent food experience! Unique flavors and textures. Home-cooked contemporary. Attentive and helpful service staff. Food portions were pretty good.

Came here for our 5 year anniversary dinner. Liked the food and the vibe! Nina’s food is yummy! Lyndie was great to serve us 😌😊 …
Morgan Dixon (The L & T MD)
Enjoyed the rich flavors and created spin on Caribbean and southern favorites. Friendly staff and a warm welcoming environment. The warm bread served at the beginning of the menken was memorable. Food was salted a bit heavy for my personal taste but it was enjoyable. Recommend!
Karen Ama Chachu
We were a bit disappointed by our experience... ceviche and shrimp dish were really good. The red snapper itself was excellent, the brown stew sauce was odd tasting. The hush puppies were ok. The drinks were really good. Our waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed by the number of tables to attend to.
Curt Finch
food was great, expensive-ish. service was adequate. if you're over 30 they'll stick you in the geezer section in the dark. so the hotties, hipsters and tech bros will be visible, like they do in LA. so if you're into that class hierarchy thing then you'll love it.
Tariq K. (forivadell)
Loved it so much on Tuesday night that I made another reservation for Saturday night for when my wife came into town.
Absolutely exquisite food and service. Every single item was incredible, from the biscuits to the dessert — how about those biscuits, though? They’re crispy and substantial without being too crumbly. We didn’t have the bacon butter since we don’t eat pork, but the honey butter with sea salt was sublime. The zappole for dessert was INCREDIBLE.
First visit, I tried the curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi which was hearty and filling and reminded me of all the Indian dishes I love with an obvious Caribbean flavor. It was amaaaazing. Last night, I tried the chicken with the corn and tamarind paste which was amazing, every piece went together beautifully.

This was the best of Louisiana. First off, please make a reservation even if it is for 2. Also, try to get your reservation at 5:30 pm. The food and atmosphere is so good that you may just stay a little. I usually take pictures, eat quickly and grab the check. This restaurant had me engaged with it's 4 course meal for at least 1 hour. The starters were just to die for and the main course was excellent. I had the duck. This was the second time having duck. The first time was so terrible that I never wanted to try duck again. The duck at Compere Lapin change but outlook on duck meat. The duck was tender and very flavourful. I also had the curried goat. I make curry at home but this curry was just simply amazing. I loved every spoonful of stew. Just be prepared to spend about $200 for a couple.

This restaurant was highlight of our week long trip, so we thought. However, we were slightly disappointed with the experience. The restaurant was beautiful and fully staffed. However, the service felt a little out of sync and overwhelmingly busy. This may be because we sat right by the kitchen door where every few seconds the double door would swing open as the food came out. After reading few articles about the restaurant, I was expecting special experience. Our starter dishes were very good: Hamachi/Guava Curry/Papaya and Cold Smoked Tuna Tartare. For the main dishes, we had Jerk Black and Curried Goat/Sweet Potato Gnocchi/Cashews which were good but not 5 star.
If you do go, make sure to sit away from the double swinging doors, it can ruin your experience.

I can't say enough about this restaurant. I was treated like family. The staff was totally amazing in their knowledge of food & drink. I drank a handful of local beers, not all at once. It's nestled in the bottom floor of the Old No. 77 hotel. Its beautiful inside and out. I spent 1 night at the bar and 1 night dining. We probably spent 3 hrs on our dining experience. We had all courses. At the end we had a coffee then a whiskey.
Amy
Excellent food and service. The cocktail menu was extensive and inventive with some real winners as far as a I'm concerned. It was my dad's birthday and the staff made sure to wish him a happy birthday. The bread and butter were delicious and dangerous (almost filled up before my meal) Everyone really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. The bar also looked like it would be nice to sit at and enjoy a cocktail and some appetizers.
Melissa Riley
This was on my list for while I was in New Orleans and it did not disappoint. Started with the hush puppies because I was hungry and had the red snapper collar. Both were fantastic as was my mezcal negroni, which was a great recommendation from my server. I can't wait to go back with my husband.
Brad Merton
The ambiance and staff were very nice. The food was very average and the menu was limited. For the price and the hype this was a disappointment. As noted before the staff was very well trained and extremely attentive. The menu, which claimed to be Caribbean, was very pedestrian and bland.
Sruthi Sanku
We went around 11 am for brunch. They had a prix fixe menu at 35 bucks per person. Service was excellent. Every single item melted in my mouth......coconut chia pudding, smoked fish, avocado on eggs.
Bill Flagg
Third time here and it has been consistent and with a nice soulful Caribbean twist! Great service. Waiter gave great recs and you have to try the Bunny cocktail delivered in a copper bunny with a copper straw.
Matthew Wester
The staff was personable and professional, the food was great and portioned well.
Lanie Griswold
It was beautiful, delicious and a nice evening. It lost one star because the vibe was stuffy, not relaxed. Maybe it was just the night we went. Will definitely go back. Portions are on the small side. The gnocchi was excellent. The cocktails were good. It was any easy Uber ride from our hotel. If I wasn't wearing heals and it wasn't 95° we may have walked. I would recommend this spot if visiting New Orleans for a fancier, higher priced dinner.
JeAnne Swinley
A top notch fine dining experience in a non stuffy environment.
Firstly, the space is STUNNING. it is a truly unique, renovated space. Everything from the old school lighting to the tiny round tiled floors.. Fabulous aesthetic all around. The bar was hopping and I was a little nervous because it was super loud. However the dining side was charming and quiet. I loved rustic meets millhouse meets modern and fresh.
The cocktails were incredible...I could have easily sat there sipping the night away. But the food. The food. The menu is one of those a little cerebral, not exactly comfort, kinda fussy affairs. However, there was not one bite that wasn't the best thing in my mouth.
We shared conch fritters, a ceviche, the curried goat and sweet potato stew and the seafood pasta dish. Every bite, sublime.
I have also tasted many many a biscuit. These are the most delicious biscuits I have ever eaten.. Served with a smoky bacon butter and a sweet butter. Unbelievable... Flaky, buttery, rich, dense.
I will return... Not because the menu begs me to return. The flavors and execution of the food do.
B.I.N
I've been meaning to write a review for a while, but got so busy...there is no better place! I would eat here everyday, but I like to come here as a treat for myself! Best drinks and food, haven't tried whole menu, but that is my mission for 2016! xo
Update: Best restaurant in New Orleans! Scott is an excellent bartender, Nina & Larry are amazing and everything on menu is delightful!
Miles Love
Cool atmosphere with helpful wait staff and excellent food/drinks. Definitely worth experiencing. We tried this restaurant mid-week for a birthday celebration and did not experience the loud atmosphere some have warned about. The Cobia/Passionfruit/Yucca listed under "First" on the menu was phenomenal and only rivaled by the chef's Curried Goat. Be warned these plates are on the smaller portions size for NOLA (normal sized portions for other fine dining venues around the country).
Gabriel Robichaud
The server gave me some of the best descriptions of meal I have heard in my life. Once you hear the descriptions you come to understand the amount of effort behind every plate. I just wanted everything he described to me. You will end up with a very detailed experience in your mouth.
Before the meal we were given two biscuits with amazing bacon and honey butter. Definitely a more expensive experience than other restaurant. With this one you won’t be disappointed though. It is worth every penny.
Ryan Manzer
The dirty rice arancini and curried goat are amazing! Wonderfully knowledgeable and friendly bartenders, open but cozy atmosphere, and a nice visual aesthetic make this little gem a place I will seek out again when next in NOLA

My fiance and I visited New Orleans on October 22nd to the 29th 2019. Our experience in New Orleans was amazing however many of the local restaurants with dined at, the food was salty if not salty the salt was Heavy in most of their dishes. However our experience at Compere^ Lapin with Chef Nina Compton and her team of expertise topped off our experience in New Orleans that made our visit to New Orleans worth our while. The Servers were very pleasant, exceptionally attentive and accommodating. The cocktails was the best we ever had. The Apetizers, Entres and desert was the best we ever had in New Orleans. The Ambiance was inviting and welcoming. We were given the privileged of meeting Chef Nina. I must say she is so humble, pleasant and her energy is to die for. I would recommend all of my friends, family foreigners and to those reading this review to Visit Compere^ Lapin. My Slogan is " If you Havent Been to Compere^ Lapin, You have not Tasted New Orleans". NINA YOU MAKE ST. LUCIA VERY PROUD!
Kristina Ching
it's a little beaten off the path but it's so worth it. the food and ambience are great. I didn't have any expectations for this place but it was highly recommended. it's inside the old hotel 77. make sure you make reservations with your concierge prior. it's always packed and for good reason.
Alberte Schmidt Koefoed
They have incredible drinks! The food was good too although the main-courses was a bit dull and left something to be imagined (we had the curried goat and the clam/shrimp spaghetti). The tuna and shrimp starters were sooo good though! On the side we had the broccoli rabe which was actually horrible - you could hardly taste the broccoli as it was way overcooked and drenched in dressing. Service was friendly and helpfull!
Wendy In Motion
The bed and breakfast I'm staying at (Creole Gardens) recommended this place for dinner and I'm so glad they did! The food is delicious, the service is impeccable and everyone, from the hostess staff to the kitchen was lovely. Apparently the chef is TV famous and I can tell why! I ordered the conch croquettes, tuna tartare and whipped ricotta. Every bite was a pleasure. Plus I made friends at the bar and generally had a blast!
Jay Kim
Went here for brunch recently. The restaurant was extremely loud and although the service was friendly, it was quite slow. The food was good but I had expected better given the recent James Beard win here. The standout item for me was the chive biscuits with bacon and honey butters.
Kylee
Table Service time was slow. Biscuits were amazing we ate another basket! with two kinds of butter: Sweet almond with sea salt and i don't remeb1er other kind.
Steven Kelly
Exquisite food, exceptional service. The dishes were an absolute delight on the palate. Every single person in the team was brilliant from start to finish, and our main server, Kerry, was fantastic. Professional yet made sure our night was energetic and fun. She clearly knows the menu well, explained the dishes to us and even suggested how to make the most of the flavours when they arrived. The cocktails she recommended to pair with each dish were spot on. At the end, the owner came over and had a chat which I thought was a lovely extra touch. One of best dining experiences I've had for a while.
John Bemis
Food is interesting. Service gets a little down check for a couple things. We arrived less than 5 minutes before our 6:00 reservation and were told we couldn’t be seated before our reserved time...really, this was the 1st seating so why not? Also they tried to pass off their apps as Amuse Bouche who charges for Amuse Bouche? But food was good and well prepared.
Lisa Moore
Delicious, beautifully plated cuisine. We had the curried goat and the snapper pepper pot. Not pictured are some nice chive biscuits served with 2 different butters, conch croquets, and the roasted cauliflower side dish. All were tasty.
Kris Keimig
Drinks were unbelievable; I could have had 20. Food was so rich and delicious, I wanted to eat the whole menu. You're cheating yourself if you don't, at least, go for a drink and a snack. My suggestion is you go there and get the full experience. It's fantastic.
Marcus Laing
Second visit coming from The Bahamas, second time thoroughly pleased. Let’s put it this way, ate my mains too quickly for to photograph. If in New Orleans you must experience this place.
Robert M
We were here a few years ago and decided to return this time around. Glad we did! The smoked fish dip and pork terrine made excellent appetizers, and the fish with fumet, okra, and tomatoes was a delicious entree. The stand-out for us, though, was the Duo of Pork: Two pork preparations with vegetables and a rich, delicious onion sauce. One of the best dishes of our trip. The front of the restaurant was noisy and energetic, but thankfully, we were seated in back where it was much calmer and relaxed. That really makes a difference. The service was attentive and personalized, and we never felt rushed or like a number. We hope to return once again on our next visit!
Matt S
Holy hell I love this place. The food is absolutely amazing. The staff is great and the cocktails are awesome. They have this fish Collar on the menu right now that's one of the best things I've ever eaten. The pork belly was outrageous, the steak was divine. I've been here on my last two trips and I'm making it a staple of every visit to New Orleans. A brilliant gem of a restaurant in a sea of great food.
Melia Rose
Wow. Wow. I mean service and ambience. But the food!!!!!! We shared the dirty rice arancini, broccoli rabe and escovitch snapper. The chef definitely knows what he's doing with the sauces complimenting the dishes. And the biscuit service was delicious as well!
Torsten Voigt
This was one of the best meals we had in a very long time. The food is absolutely amazing and there was not a single dish we did not enjoy. The service was impeccable and everyone working there was incredibly friendly. We sat at the bar and had great conversations with the knowledgeable bartenders. Highly recommended and with not doubt the best food we had in 5 days in NOLA.

Amazing place. We didn't wind up doing the prix fix meal with cocktail pairing, but would absolutely try it next time. The goat entree was fantastic, as were the broiled shrimp. Highly recommend.
Allie Ruiz
Amazing meal! The food was incredible, every bite. The chicken is huge so be warned.
The cocktails and service were also amazing.
We had the hush puppies, pig ear, biscuits, shrimp, goat, chicken, and fish collar. I’d skip the fish and the goat if you want the chicken, which at least one person should get. And also be warned the biscuits are very filling.
Sarah Smith
This was amazing. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were super friendly and knowledgeable. Every single thing we got was so good throughout the whole meal. It was a perfect dinner and the best experience/food we've had so far in New Orleans and we've had some great stuff.
Dustin Webster
Compere Lapin was the highlight of our last trip to New Orleans. We expected the food to be good, but we were really blown away by everything including the service and an really amazing bar program.
The ambiance was great and really comfortable. My wife and I were actually at at a spacious four top, which was awesome since we could stretch out and where not sitting right on top of other guests. Our waiter was really nice and very attentive. We were already over full from three prior days of eating in New Orleans, and so we needed to order pretty light for food. Unlike some places, we experienced no pressure at all to order more, and did not feel rushed at any point in the evening, even when lingering over a few dishes and drinks. The pacing of the meal was nice as well, as they allowed space in between the courses. The food deserves the reputation it has been getting. It's amazing. The standout might have actually been dessert which was the panna cotta with grapefruit and pine nuts. It was outstanding.
The unexpected element that blew us away was the cocktail program. The drinks are unique, inventive, and very good. There area ton of great bars in New Orleans, and I would place the bar at Compere Lapin up among the top. We will definitely be back to have cocktails at the bar.
This restaurant is absolutely fantastic, and we cannot wait to be back.

The food and dining experience was great. The service was exceptional but those prices i wouldnt expect nothing less. My waitress was friendly and very attentive. I would recommend these to grienfs who could afford the finer things in life.
Dave Weinman
I've been wanting to get here for years and it didn't disappoint. Everything I had was really good but the crab finger dish was one of the coolest things I've ever had in my life. Came back the next night just to get them again (and to try the hush puppies).

Amazing Caribbean restaurant! The biscuits with the whipped honey butter is freaking fantastic! I highly recommend the marinated shrimp with smoked jalapeño as well as the west African petit drummetes. We also enjoyed the curried goat and the adobo pork loin. If you want a fun drink, I recommend the copper bunny!
Cody Smith
Damn fine grub. In particular, they absolutely nailed the biscuits. Food was a little heavy, but you probably expect that. The service was delightful, especially our waiter who gestured while describing the food, and looked like he was conducting a symphony.
Joost Morsink
Second time we went here and it never stops amazing me. Unique flavors come together in exquisite plates. The oysters were great, but their homemade hotsauce brought it to the next level. The smoked tuna was from another planet. For dinner, we had adobo pork and jerk chicken. Both plates didn't come close to what we were expected BUT both plates brought everything they got. Can highly recommend spending the money and grab some great cocktails.
Brett Tucker
Amazing atmosphere and service. Food was great will definitely recommend to friends and family visiting. I had the snapper and my wife had the pork belly.
Chef Alex Page
I visited this past week and came all the way from Toronto, ON to experience this place! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would (I also NEVER write reviews!) I came for the food, which was absolutely exceptional, however I was blown away by the service! I work in the hospitality industry, and I have to say, this is some of the best service I’ve ever received/witnessed! Specifically I’d like to say our server, André, as well as Gabby (who was helping us), were over the top! The Somm who recommended our wine was also extremely knowledgeable and friendly!
I’m so glad I was able to meet André and Gabby! They were definitely one of my favourite parts of visiting New Orleans (for 4 days!) So glad they signed my postcard! Can’t wait for André to come back to visit Canada, and for Gabby to come for her first time!
For food, must have: Pigs Ears, Hush Puppies, and the Curried Goat - to die for!
Definitely don’t skip this place while in New Orleans!

Unique menu offering some really delicious food. As many have mentioned the gnocchi is killer. The biscuits are great, we ordered them as an appetizer and put in for another order later in the meal to soak up the incredible broth that accompanied the prawns. The pork belly dish was delightful and the panna cotta for dessert was spot on. The pigs ear and the rabbit special we had were forgettable, but it's likely due to the fact that they were juxtaposed against some incredible flavors.
Eric Lewis
The food here was excellent. The service was ....average. The atmosphere was very loud. Conversation was challenging among the four of us. The martinis ordered first were undrinkable. Seems like it was vermouth with a little vodka spritzed on it. ALL of the food was fabulous. For dessert, I ordered a flight of scotch. For $25, the flight turned out to be three FULL POURS of very nice scotch. This made up for the bad martinis in the beginning. Unfortunately, I'm not able to drink 3 full pours of scotch, after half a bottle of wine as well. Fortunately, a few of my dinner guests offered to share with me, so we were able to enjoy them.
if you go, be prepared for great food at very reasonable prices served in a loud bar type atmosphere by servers who try, but perhaps were inexpertly trained, and likely are stressed by the noisy atmosphere as well.

Compere' Lapin is an impressive and distinctive restaurant with Good Appetizers, a great wine selection, unusual entree's, and a very satisfying dessert menu.
The wait staff was attentive and knew their menu, and the wines. (Ask the sommelier for suggestions, they often have wines not on the list).
Located in the Lobby of a hotel, not far from the French Quarter, compere' Lapin is a restaurant worth visiting. The oysters were superb.
One word of caution, the entree's are heavily seasoned, so ask your server before ordering if you have any restrictions or allergies.
i suggest taking an Uber or Mass transit, as parking is in a lot (they have valet parking out front).
In a town where there is great food almost everywhere, this restaurant has a unique and well thought out presentation.

Be prepared, it can be a little spendy, but the meal we had was worth every penny!! Five stars. Lovely low-lit (kind of intimate) atmosphere, extensive drink selection, and INCREDIBLE FOOD. I started with a glass of cava and the conch, and ordered the snapper for dinner. It was beyond words! Seasoned perfectly, sweet, savory, and delicious!!

One of the best meals we’ve had in NOLA! Must try the Conch croquette, Tuna tartare & Blackeyed peas!

Went for the special Travelzoo Experience and it was worth every penny!! It was a 4 course experience that was bite after bite packed w an explosion of culinary delight and wonder.

The food is delicious and the service is excellent!!
We had a great family dinner over there. You cannot go wrong with Tuna tartare, curries goat or their chicken dish!
Satu Isotalo
Really enjoyed the friendly service here. One of my favourite dishes was the cheeseboard, really felt like the combinations were well planned. Also the cocktails were awesome. Thank you!
Tiffany Tyler
Excellent staff, fantastic atmosphere, and delicious food!!! All of the appetizers were amazing, including the biscuits with bacon butter!!
Jess Kuhn
Hot chicken was great, gnocchi tasted burnt and chilled craw fish and corn chowder was very nice. My drink was balanced and made well, biscuit and butter was a solid second to the chicken and pickles .
Julie Levine
We have eaten here multiple times and each time it just gets better and better. The whipped mascarpone was so good! Try it on the biscuits! Black eyed peas were a huge hit at the table. Red Snapper, Adobo Pork and of course the Goat Curry were all devoured at our table. Highly recommend this place!
Alexis Fraser
Great cocktails AND MOCKTAILS. Beautiful concept and well executed. Menu is simply crafted but highly inventive - the curried goat and fried chicken entrees were so delicious and the biscuits were incredible. 11 weeks pregnant and the bartenders made me two beautifully crafted mocktails that tasted herbaceous and flavorful, and succeeded in making me feel like an adult. Great ambience and fantastic service.
Quin Whiddon
I had been waiting forever to visit Compere Lapin and I was happy to see that they survived the pandemic. The wait was totally worth it and I see why the ratings are so high. The food, staff and atmosphere are all deserving of 5 stars.
As soon as I checked in for my reservation, I was promptly shown to my table where I was approached by Jordan. While perusing the menu, Jordan explained to me that they prefer you to order all of your items at once as it prevents you from possibly waiting a long time for the next course. They do a great job of spacing out your dishes so you do not feel rushed.
I decided on the jalapeño hushpuppies, the little gem salad and the snapper collar. All dishes were original, delicious, and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, I was too full for dessert, but since I plan on coming back, I will take advantage, as I spied other diners plates and they looked mouthwatering.

If you are looking for creative dishes in NOLA, this is the spot. Carribean twist on Southern quisine is just genius.
Sara Minder
Every single course, from start to finish was decadent. The presentation of each dish was phenomenal. The service was outstanding, and relaxed. Our server was particularly knowledgable about the off menu items and the atmosphere was cozy and chic
I would absolutely dine here again
Jeff Palumbo
Beyond exceptional experience. Highly recommend. Bartenders are truly Craftsman and artist. The food is Devine and crafted with love and passion. Kyle the general manager is amazing and delightful.

My husband and I have been fans of Nina Compton for years, and we were lucky to get a 9:30 reservation while I was in New Orleans for work. I was a bit trepidatious because some of the more recent reviews were fairly critical, but we went in with an open mind. We were NOT disappointed. To begin, the restaurant is stunning, from the dreamy gas-lighted entrance to the local art hung throughout the dining room. The hostess was incredibly warm-we arrived almost an hour early, planning to have a leisurely cocktail, and she offered to try and get us in early. I assumed this was a standard courtesy with no intention of follow-through, but she actually seated us almost 40 minutes before our reservation. During our short wait, we got drinks from the bar, where the bartender patiently shared his favorite drinks without the judgment you sometimes feel from locals when you're an obvious tourist. Upon being seated, we were greeted by our server, Shelby. Like the other staff, she was friendly and sincerely interested in making sure we had a great experience. We started with the hushpuppies and biscuits, which were awesome and authentic to my experience as an Alabama girl. The flavored butters were a big highlight. We then got the little gem salad to share. Upon my first bite, I thought it was too bitter, but when I got a bite with all the ingredients, it sang. It was completely different than anything I've had before and absolutely delicious. We followed by sharing the scialatielli with shrimp and clams. The shrimp were cooked to mush, but it didn't matter because the sauce was so flavorful. I told our server it should come with a hunk of bread so you could soak up every bit of sauce. (Extra points to Shelby for not acting judgmental when we shared a salad and entree). I finished with the coconut panna cotta, which was possibly one of the best desserts I've ever had. It included a taste of one of the sorbets, which was so fresh and yummy. It's hard to get excited about a sorbet, but trust me-this one is worth getting excited about. Overall, the meal was lovely and was complemented by the warm ambience. Our ticket even came with a recipe card from Nina and her husband. Lots of restaurants serve good food, but Compere Lapin serves a good experience. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a charming meal in New Orleans.
Josh O'Keefe
Great service. Food was absolutely delicious. The first plates were especially good. Impeccable service.
Aleena Noelani Butler
Great food and lovely staff! They made a special vegan dish for me. It was so good and I even got to meet the chef! Such a great experience. I usually take photos of my dishes but it was so good I forgot haha!
Ronald Crawford
An absolutely fantastic restaurant. The curried goat and sweet potato gnocchi are nearly worth a trip to NOLA by themselves. It is always a pleasure when the luxury aesthetic of an establishment matches its service and substance. Dismiss the gut feeling that this place is a bit high browed... It is, but it's so wonderful and welcoming that you'll quickly lose sight of whatever pretentiousness you'd expect from a restaurant in this price range.
Stop thinking about it, GO.
Gunnar Rätsch [personal]
Great ambiente, excellent main dishes and cocktails. desserts OK.
Ki-Hon Lin
Excellent flavorful food. We loved our server Claire - so personable and funny. And - bottomless Brunch Punch.
Roberto Vargas
My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and were a little underwhelmed. I should note that my review is based on the expected experience (ie fine-ish dining) and price point of the dining experience. We ordered the honey biscuits, tune ceviche, goat curry, and the red snapper and each ordered a glass of red.
In terms of aesthetic: our menus had butter stains on them, there were tons of little fabric bits on our wine glasses, and the music choices really clashed with the aesthetic: visually I was getting fine dining but hearing Florence and the Machine created an insecure identity for the experience. In terms of pros, the service was great and the waiter was helpful with recommendations.
Regarding the food: the the butter mixtures for the biscuits was fantastic. The biscuits had an incredible fluffy texture. However, the honey aspect was definitely oversold and the biscuits themselves were fairly bland so much so that it muted a lot of the flavor in the butter mixture.
The ceviche was the least impressive of the bunch. Despite the incredible freshness of the fish, there were grisly and sinewy bits in the ceviche that made the delicate dish unpleasant. Moreover there was very little acidity or saltiness in the sauce making the whole dish fall flat.
Both of our entrees were incredible.
The cab sav that was served by the glass was also phenomenal.
Despite the great parts of the dining experience, the overall experience did not live up to the hype nor the price point.
Dubois Tara
No words can express how enjoyable the food and service was here. A little pricy but well worth it. Stopped here on our way to the airport. Fabulous!
AJ Marino
Hot spot in a pretty hot neighborhood can make finding a table here a bit of a gamble - but Angela worked some magic and squeezed in our party of 4 within 15 minutes on a “sold out” night! Definitely recommend calling to chat to the friendly hosts if you’re having trouble finding a spot for dinner in the neighborhood.
Cocktails to start were solid, better than the bars nearby. Chef recommends everyone get 1 small bite, 1 starter and 1 entree. It ends up being super filling so come hungry! The menu is Caribbean / Italian takes on New Orleans specialities….which sounds strange but it does work pretty well. Favorites were the hush puppies, cauliflower soup, and the duo of pork. You can skip the pig ears and the fish dip.
Also shoutout to the servers - specifically the marvelous miss Nicole for the laughs and great conversation!
Jaime Smeke
Not only is the food amazing, every single detail has been thought of. The staff dominates the menu and will happily walk you through it. When you get the check, they’ll include a recipe, which I thought was a good touch to an “uncomfortable” part of the customer journey.
Marla Ponson
Caribbean creole restaurant with beautiful bites with the right amount of spice. We loved it! Local art on display
Fred Williams
the peanut soup was tasty but way over salted. curried goat was great. the star of the show was the arancini with sour orange mojo, the mojo is really unbelievable. good service. intimate atmosphere.
Stephen Benitez
Excellent cocktails and fresh contemporary food choices. Get an early reservation if you want to catch a table. Open bar with full menu as well.

Exceptionally delicious food with some unique offerings such as the Cow Heel Soup/Smoked Bone Marrow/Charred Okra pictured in the review

Food here is absolutely delicious and service is spot on. Well done Nina Compton! 👍🏼👍🏼 …

Outstanding cuisine, friendly attentive floor staff. A must visit dinning experience during your trip to The Big Easy. Exceptional value for money!
Jeron Cook-Bennett
Food is amazing. The waitress, chef, and bartenders are able to cater to all your needs. Will come back again. But be warned, this place is expensive, high class restaurant.
Jean Mikhail Sonson
In my opinion, the best restaurant in New Orleans!
Amazing flavours, cozy atmosphere and super friendly staff.
Compliments to the chef Nina Compton!
Lena Halabi
I was excited to dine here but the experience fell short of my expectations. Some menu items were great, such as the gulf fish with truffled sunchokes and the biscuits, but the remaining dishes (shrimp pasta and chicken) were salty, over-seasoned (way too much fennel on the chicken) and just extremely mediocre. Additionally, the service was lacking (granted I know Covid has impacted labor availability). I think this place has potential to be a 4 or even a 5 star, but it’s still an adolescent in comparison to the NOLA food scene.
Djuana Stoakley
Caribbean-inspired dishes and craft cocktails. Cozy decor. Friendly bartenders.
Edwin Chong
Absolutely delicious. I was a little worried that the much-lauded curry goat and sweet potato gnocchi would be heavy, but it was richly flavored without being rich in weight. The goat was marvelously tender and the gnocchi were pillowy light. Fried pickles were a revelation, and the buttermilk biscuits were perfectly fluffy and flaky. The CL Daiquiri was a great showcase of clairin. Service was friendly and attentive.
Steven M Horner - Orlando Property Specialist
Truly amazing! Atmosphere was spot on and each of the courses we enjoyed exceeded our expectations. We'll be returning from Orlando in two weeks again!
Ricky B
We were in town for our daughter's graduation from Tulane and took in a dinner here early in the week. The place was busy, and we were seated after our reservation time, but the food and drinks were excellent and worth the wait. Our server was great. Food is Caribbean with hints of New Orleans creole thrown in.
Pam Rutkowski
Everything we ordered was delicious, interesting, fresh. Friendly staff, nice ambiance.
Cristina Twigg
Great cocktails! Kitchen closed while we were there, sadly. But yummy and pretty!
Marissa Plaza
We had our Thanksgiving dinner here! The food was delicious, the best turkey I have ever tried! Everything was perfect!

I agree with the other reviewers - this is a good restaurant. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable. The hot.where it is located has a good local vibe.
Megan Jennings
This restaurant was PHENOMENAL! We stayed at the hotel, so it was a perfect last-day brunch place for us. We were celebrating a belated birthday and they made it so specialized and excellent. Our waitress (I wish I remembered her name- she was so incredible) expertly guided us through both food and drink, coursing things out perfectly so nothing was rushed and flowed smoothly. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, and I will definitely go back the next time I'm in town.

Honestly one of the single best meals I've ever had. I was solo, and had a great server who made stellar recommendations. I had: the bunny slope (?) cocktail, crawfish hushpuppies with pineapple sauce and roe, Tuna tartare, curried goat with amazing sweet potato gnocchi then dessert (I'm not usually a dessert person) of banana donut holes (I think), with a glass of Spanish dry Sherry. I only went in knowing I wanted the curried goat, and let the server guide me. I loved it.
Nicholas Meyers
Goat Bolognese, avocado toast, biscuits and gravy, granola and fruit, beignets, all delicious. Recently had the cold smoked tuna off the brunch and dinner menus... fantastic!
Ahmad Alsalih
We tried a 3-course dinner. Amazing cuisine, amazing taste, a joyful delight in every bite.
Very fulfilling to the senses despite the small portions.
Very good service too. Very clean.
A bit pricey, but worth it. You get what you pay for. Will definitely dine there again.
We also tried their breakfast on the go.
Amazing pastries, very delicious, the ginger cookies are heavenly.
The tea (even for a tea bag kind) is really good. (I’m a bit picky when it comes to tea).
The cappuccino & the coffee are very good too.
Chris Li
Amazing food and drinks from start to finish. Excellent!
Leah Hickson
First, you have to meet Mignon, CL’s premier server. She’s an expert on meal selection and pairing and is solely responsible for introducing us to Chef Nina’s phenomenal creations. We’d highly recommend the signature Goat and Shrimp entrees followed by the chocolate mousse dessert. This was easily one of the best meals in New Orleans. Mignon then gave us additional guidance and recommendations for other fantastic food and drink experiences for the rest of our stay. They did not disappoint and in fact we got the VIP treatment. This will definitely be one of the things I remember about our trip to New Orleans. I’m so happy that we made it just in time for CL to re-open.
Caitlin Fitzgerald
Absolutely delicious! My husband and I went last night for dinner - make a reservation as they fill up. The venue is adorable and has a really great atmosphere. Our waitress was really sweet and knowledgeable and had great drink recommendations! Everything we had was really well prepared with a great attention to detail. Portions sizes are perfect.
Steven Alcala
Solo traveler / had brunch at the bar. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive service. Food was delicious with lots of flavor.
Alexandra Urban
Absolutely fabulous food! A great place to share and try lots of different innovative dishes :) Would recommend making a res, esp for the weekend, but if you haven’t, you might be able to snag a seat at the bar (if party of 1 or 2). Waitress was super friendly & helpful, nice cocktail selection, and great combinations of flavors: sweet potato gnocchi with curried meat; raw tuna with banana chips, etc. Definitely suggest working this into your NOLA trip if you can - I cannot wait to return when back in town - thank you for the delicious dinner!
Jennifer Ng'andu
Beautiful, elegant food. The shrimp is so good I wanted four of them.

One of the best meals we had while in New Orleans. Chef Nina has really put a lot of thought and love into the menu. Everything we ate was amazing full of flavor and spice. We started with the Whipped Ricotta starter that was so fresh and light it was amazing. Another amazing starter was one of their specials, which was an amazing salad with a vert sauce that we were dunking all of our breads into at the end wishing we could take a bottle home with us. Finally, we shared the Curried Goat Gnocchi and a Pork Tenderloin Entree both of which were delicious, rich in flavor and unique. The tenderloin had this amazing plantain puree we had never even imagined before. The service was great and not too pretentious or overbearing like some higher end restaurants can be. I would definitely go back if we are in the area again!
Eva Huang
As a Taiwanese these flavors speak to my gut (literally). Major disappointment: most of the dishes that came were not well-balanced with flavors. Too salty, and lacks acidity and layers. The restaurant has bold vision, and has unique personality. Just needs to tone down a bit and add more breadth to it.
Hélène Huang
Amazing waitress with really good advice and recommendations. Cocktails were good, food really well executed. We thought it was a bit pricey overall - the same meal at home (in France) could have been half price but not in the same urban setting and context.
Good place for a romantic dinner or a date.
Breakfast is good too - similarly we thought it a bit pricey but good quality.
R Cielo Cruz
Amazing amazing amazing food. The Chef is genuinely brilliant and it is a thrill to catch glimpses of her in the kitchen. The bar is well stocked, the wine list seems expertly and thoughtfully curated. Wait staff can be hit or miss, but one of the proprietors does make the rounds and is charming and attentive. A great place to bring out of town guests or a date, anyone you want to win over. Wish they had more vegetarian options and a vegan selection or two that was on the menu. Hard for people with dietary restrictions.
Darius Parakh
Let's start with the negatives and move into the positive aspects. The service was very slow, and our server had a bit of trouble handling our group, which was only 6 people. Their goat was rather dry, and the fish was not tasty at all. We ordered our extras to arrive with the dinner, as they should, however due to slow service, it ended up arriving after the meal. Thankfully, the restaurant was very apologetic, and offered complimentary dessert. Our appetizers where delicious, and our first round of food was great as well. Overall, it was a nice experience, but it is a little difficult to justify coming back.
Ryan Benjamin
The food here was phenomenal. The service was even more phenomenal. My waitress was unbelievably kind, funny and made you feel at home. I even mispronounced conch, and she so politely told me, and she told me to put lemon on the conch fritters to add some acidity. The curried goat... wow. Just wow. The free biscuits and specialized butters were awesome. Everything was unbelievable.
Rich Lopez
Excellent service, food is great! Menu changes often and is always superb. Drinks are strong but really flavorful. Checks off all the boxes come and get a real Nola fusion 5 star experience :)
Lawrence P Givens
Bring the flavor of the Caribbean Islands and mix it in a pot with some New Orleans soul, and that's this fantastic eatery. Nosh on the Salty and Savory Crispy pig ears to start, next satisfy your soul with the West African Peanut soup and round out your meal with the curried goat or scialatielli shrimp. Make sure you order the biscuits to sop up all of the richly flavorful sauces that are a part of each dish (or just lock the damn plate ... It's totally called for) ... Cut to the chase and kings & queens are cocktail standouts. Nina Compton, you are a Culinary Goddess.
Alison
Everything is exceptional. Great care is taken in everything they do, from the designs in the latte, to the pink rabbit on the foam in the Andromeda cocktail, the quality ingredients and cooking, and thoughtful presentation. The staff is friendly, welcoming and so knowledgeable. The menu descriptions do not do justice to the incredibly well-crafted dishes. Best meal out of the 10 we have eaten in New Orleans, and we have had some really good meals.
Giant Subwoofer
One word: Overrated. Yes the food is good - but not excellent and given the prices that's what we expected. Great service does not substitute for our average entrees. The jerk chicken was the winner of the table with a salty pork pasta dish making a distant 2nd place and a soupy goat dish coming in 3rd. The highlights were the starters and biscuits but let's be honest, anything sprinkled with bacon and butter is going to be good. I'd say I'd forget this dinner in a minute if it weren't for the lofty bill that my credit card will happily remind me of.
Scott Giambastiani
Gary, our server...rockstar! Great food. A must
Will S
Was not prepared to like this French Caribbean restaurant as much as I did. First it is a little noisy and not very inviting when I first entered but I order a cappuccino during the 5 min I waited for a table at the coffee bar and it was excellent! Our table was in the back which is a little quieter. The smoked tuna appetizer was fabulous, and the biscuit and honey butter and bacon butter were great. I had the chicken which was superb as was the short rib. The pineapple sorbet was absolutely heavenly. Not wine friendly, though, with a $30 corkage.
Amanda Steffan
One of the best meals I’ve had. The curried goat has depth of flavor that you just can’t get from an average chef. The beef tartar was also one of the best I’ve ever had, crunchy bread and the perfect chop on the meat. The dirty rice arancini are a fun way to start but the fried pig ears are what you shouldn’t skip. The wine selection is also stellar and the waitstaff more than capable of helping you find the perfect bottle. Really great atmosphere, you forget you’re in a hotel restaurant. I would recommend this as a can’t miss dining experience while in New Orleans if you want to treat yourself.
bbcoward
What an awesome place! I was here for the Thanksgiving weekend and I was treated to the most wonderful dining experiences I’ve ever had in the N.O. I get off the plane and I have bourbon, biscuts and a catfish sandwich. Awesome. I came back for dinner and had a fish I can even remember but it was Great! I enjoyed it and don’t even regret it after running a five miler the next morning. They slided me in for Thanksgiving dinner and what a treat! That is a testament to the great staff. The really make a fuss over you. Shout out to Scott the bartender and Dominique the waiter! For all my D.C. peeps and skeptics, this will be my number one recommendation.
Liz
This place was so wonderful!!! Every single item we ordered was plated beautifully and was delicious. We really enjoyed ourselves here and it was a lot of fun. We will make sure to make this a regular visiting spot when we are in NOLA. This was some of the best tasting food I’ve ever experienced in my life and the whole dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. A little pricy but WELL worth it. The food and atmosphere was worth every penny.
Erik Rodrigues
Went there for my birthday weekend. Footed and service were beyond compare.
Aditya Nathan
I chose this place for our anniversary dinner. Great choice!! Great atmosphere. It was just lively enough. Wasn't too loud to converse. We had the seafood pepper pot, the black drum and curried goat. Everything was phenomenal! Would return 💯 percent. Domingo was a great server. …
Apple Starlight
Nqow have your alleys ready before you step foot inside, but let me tell you, it's some of the best food you'll ever eat. The chefs recipes are all original, and anything on the menu is absolutely memorable. It's a very nice setting as well. Very friendly and helpful staff. Also very interesting cocktails!
Matt Martinez
They've got it firing on all cylinders at this place: great service, amazing food and fantastic drink menu. The biscuits and homemade butter are crazy delicious, the marinated shrimp appetizer is a can't-miss, and I would seriously eat the goat curry every single day of my life and be happy. Add on top of that the great cocktails like the Copper Rabbit (which seems like just a gimmick but is actually a brilliant take on a mule) *and* great wines by the glass for both dinner and dessert, and I will definitely be back to Compère Latin when I am in New Orleans again.
Shevaughn Francis
This was one of the top three best meals I've ever eaten! We went for Sunday brunch and everything from start to finish was exceptional! Our waiter Carey took great care of us! The drinks, the atmosphere, the amazing food and thoughtful service made this our favorite dining experience of our vacation. From now on, anytime I visit New Orleans, this will be my first AND last stop.
justin wallace
the Tuna Tare Tare was the best i have had. we also had the Butternut squash Ravioli, and it was to die for.
Hospitality Of New Orleans
We recommend Compere Lapin to everyone. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is great and the service is outstanding. The pig ears are great in addition to many other dishes. The location is in walking to everything which is very convenient. We love that your restaurant has a bar area, a sitting area and a very nice layout. The exposed bricks are also a very nice touch.
Timothy Gold
The food was quite good. The service was horrendous. Rude. Condescending. It is 68 degrees outside. We were freezing at our table. The manager assured us the thermostat was set to 76 degrees. Not possible. We were corrected for leaving our table in the wrong direction. We didn't disturb any other patrons. They just didn't like us getting so close to a planter. They didn't wait for a break in our conversation when the servers came to the table. They just talked over us. If we heard them, fine. If not, too bad. Too many great restaurants in New Orleans to act like that.
Björn Barz
Simply delicious. Highly creative award-winning cuisine.

We went here for brunch and were blown away on the quality for a place so close to the French Quarter. The bottomless punch bowl was on point and the antique glassware pulled it all together. The table ended up sharing all the food family style because it was all so good! Huge shout out to our server Nicole who took time to make sure the experience was perfect.

Did a three course in this hotel restaurant. Good subtle Caribbean flair. A board of 2 square buttermilk biscuits w chives and two butters: bacon and sweet. Perfect breads. First course: Tomato peach chilled soup was my favorite. The flavor was perfect all around--a touch of mint (leaves), tomato gazpacho base, peach chunks, yogurt, subtle coconut infusion (I didn't taste this too much).

Really fun and delicious experience!! Great service!! Highly recommended!! Try "The Brass Rabbit" cocktail!!

Delicious. The bar is great, too. As a local, what I love about Compere Lapin is that I can choose dishes native to New Orleans or something I've never had before. And I like that the local dishes are changed up a bit (not the ones I cook at home) and still delicious. The decor is also excellent. Clean, classy, yummy.
Robert Lamberg
Very informed and professional waitress with excellent recommendations for cocktails and menu items. Several of the food items were significantly more spicy than the average restaurant, which was fine with me. Good dinner for the cost. I'd go there again.
Nadia Dominick
Not your average "hotel" restaurant but what restaurant in New Orleans really is like the typical hotel restaurant. Very cute industrial like decor. The drinks are worth the money because they don't skimp on the liquor. I had the goat and my husband had the french toast. They both were really good. I was scrapping the plate because the sauce was amazing. I will definitely come back.
Brian Fox
The food was great. Minus one of the small plates. Conk croquettes. They fell flat and just weren't good. The with staff was crushed and thought the food was polished the hospitality of the general staff needs some work. To be simple they were not friendly and gave the impression we were a bother. Far from what I had expected. But then again they didn't win the James Beard award. Their chef did. If they had been on their game, even the miss on the conk would have still been worth 5 stars.
Charlie Morn
What a fun restaurant. Very good food, phenomenal cocktails, and solid service. The small plates and appetizers were all very well prepared, and the mains were good. There's lots of creativity in the kitchen here with only a few minor issues on execution. Some of the dishes came together very well, but a few had odd choices that didn't quite work, and the chicken breast was slightly dry and overcooked.
I would definitely return if I come back to New Orleans for an extended stay. Fair or not, it was completely overshadowed by our evening at Shaya the night before.

Incredible service. Cocktails and food menu were unbelievable. Our server was passionate and knowledgeable. The food and drinks came out quickly and absolutely delicious. We had the Goat and Snapper, both were top knotch.
Chris Lumsden
While the drink selection, and food offered were both excellent, the thing that sets this bar out from the others is the staff. The first night we stopped in for a night cap we ended up having an hour and a half long conversation with the bar back. Bar tenders we’re all super friendly and the BOH guys were just as cool. Will be back for sure next time we’re in NOLA.
Karim Shaheen
Sad to say overrated, don't bother coming..... as others have written the biscuits that came out whilst you waited were absolutely delicious and made us excited for what was to come. We chose the house made cheese which had little/no flavor and tasted like mild yoghurt. The catfish sandwich was very average (although the fries, which you pay an extra $8 for were gorgeous!). The goat curry was slightly odd- I loved the fresh coriander but the sweet pot gnocchi was not right with it (and for $28 we expected better). The ambience and decor is very cool and our mocktails were lovely (perhaps it's a better place to come meet friends for drinks rather than dinner). Our server was very sweet and caring but overall I couldn't recommend and wouldn't coke back. Sorry CL!
Vitalie Katz
Amazing, the food was delicious. We were a party of 4 and everyone's dish was flavorful and delicious. Out of the appetizers, the beet salad and the tuna tartar were the best. The drinks were delicious as well, even the decorative fruits tasted organic, flavorful. The service was great. Nicole was polite and professional. Definitely coming back.
Lauren Kallen
Incredible restaurant! Was able to sit at the bar with no reservation and was served by Denzel (I think that was his name). He was amazing and helped us make some great choices. The owner also walked through saying hi to everyone which was a nice touch. The cocktails were wonderful and the food was delicious too. We only had the small bites but they were all so good! Would recommend!
Michaela
The food and mixed drinks are delicious, but the charming staff take the experience to the next level. The marinated shrimp is one of the most flavorful and refreshing dishes I’ve had in a long time - so much so I had to go back for seconds. The jerk drum is also seasoned to perfection. Make sure to save room for dessert because the coconut ice cream is out of this world as is the coconut pana cotta. Try and get a seat at the raw bar so you can talk to some of the staff like the hysterical Jazz if she’s rocking the raw bar - they are truly remarkable people and you can tell it is a testament to their leadership from not only Chef Nina but also Manager Kyle who was the definition of hospitality.

Need more stars!
Words cannot describe the excellent food, awesome atmosphere and, in our case, super cute, friendly and helpful waitress. We enjoyed the crispy pork ear small bite, the bacon Brussels Sprouts First plate, the lobster pasta and curried goat second plates and roasted carrots add-on.
Forgive me for not remembering the exact menu names from two days ago but I don't think it would matter anyway.
I'm willing to bet anything you try will bring a smile to your face.
Sophia F
We didn’t love the signature cocktail (flavor was overwhelming), but the rabbit “cup” it comes in is memorable. They only have a dozen or so I believe, so if you’re there on a busy night, order it right away to make sure you get one
Most noteworthy were their biscuits. They were the best I had in New Orleans, which is a tall order! Buttery, flaky, moist, and wonderfully seasoned. Would come here again just to feast on the biscuits
Lauren Johnson
Brought a group of co-workers here. It turned out to be a good choice for that. I didnt know what kind of food they like but there was something for everyone and everyone was happy with what they got including our drinks and apps. Service was great. There was a "hip" interior typical of trendy restaurants if you're into that kind of thing.
Yang C
The food is very tasty! I had the burger and it’s probably one of the most juiciest and tender burger I ever had. I am sure one big reason for that is their meat are special, from a different cattle say...the waiting is kind of longer for a take out order which is understandable given they are busy at lunch time. Just remember to spare extra time if you go! If dinning inside, for sure recommends a priori reservation.
Eric C.
Great cocktails and fun atmosphere. The receipts come on postcards so you can mail that to a friend anonymously too!
Michele Frost
It was perfect, from seating to dessert. You didn’t notice any COVID excuses (no shortage of wait, kitchen or seating staff); between that and the high quality of food, we felt like we stepped back in pre- COVID time, it was perfect!
Rebekah Armstrong
I just had a great solo dinner at the raw bar with Chef Ryan. The entire staff was friendly, upbeat and knowledgeable. I ordered the oysters and vegetarian pasta dish, and it was divine! This was a really fun NOLA spot. Definitely worth a visit!
Paolo D'Amico
The food is just amazing! The staff incredibly friendly and helpful. You’ll probably need to order a couple of dishes if you’re hungry. Highly recommended!

We were just in New Orleans and this restaurant was high on our list for must-dos due to our admiration for Chef Nina Compton. We had just re-watched 'Top Chef: New Orleans' prior to our trip and really wanted a chance to try her cuisine.
The food was fantastic. We had both the curried goat and jerk chicken, as well as the marinated shrimp and black-eyed peas. Everybody loved their food and the goat was a definite stand-out dish.
What made the experience even more special was the extra effort Nina made to acknowledge our two young daughters, who were thrilled to be able to both see her in person and eat in her restaurant. As busy as she was, she took the time to make the experience even more memorable for our girls. It was great to not only have a dining experience that surpassed our expectations but to get the same from Nina as well.
Alyssa Secreto
Some dishes were standouts, tuna tartare and snapper were delicious. Our waitress was nice, but service in general was not on par for the pricing. Overall, would not return - for this amount of money I shouldn't leave thinking "this was fine."
Will Jankowski
Absolutely fantastic. Loved the copper rabbits used to serve cocktails. Delicious southern food, love the Caribbean twist - jerk chicken makes for quite the interesting New Orleans dish!! Had the adobo pork tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of seasoning. Would certainly come back.
Joseph Caron Dawe
Top, top food and service to match. One of the very best restaurants in New Orleans. I tasted 3-4 dishes on the menu and each one was delicious and extremely flavoursome without ever being too rich or heavy. Our waitress was excellent too - she knew the menu and was able to propose great suggestions for a group with varying tastes. Service was faultless. If you're in New Orleans this should be a must-visit.

I visited this restaurant on a food tour that I was conducting for an upcoming NOLA wedding. The menu seemed to be comprised of all my least favorite foods. My anxiety was further compounded when I saw the portion sizes of my neighbors. I decided to calm my nerves with a craft drink, only to have my concerns further pressed to the breaking point. Should I stay and let my wallet take the hit of a moderately high priced restaurant that boasts a menu that is unappealing to me and has only slightly unique drinks? After all how good could pork and beats be? Well I did and it was perhaps the most gratifying food experience of my life. I have never tasted such distinct balance and depth in a dish where I was at pause from what I was experiencing. I experienced it twice in one sitting. If someone can make a golden beet's earthy inflection palatable they should be given a 4 star rating regardless of whether my food was served professionally or thrown in my face. As it turns out the wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable.
I had spent nearly 40 hours planning my tasting route on a 4 day NOLA tour in hopes to avoid the over hyped and underperforming restaurants I have grown to hate. It paid off. This was mong the greatest restaurants I've ever eaten at. My hats off to all the chefs and Cooks at this restaurant.
Clinton Allen
Good but not great. Service was great at the bar. Would like to have an option other than biscuit. Pig ear was cold and over salted. Imagine congealed fat infused with gelled collagen and then turbo dusted with salt. Yeah. the curried goat was tender (perhaps sous vide?) but still chewy enough for those that love goat. It may be my pallet but every dish seemed over salted. We all know some days you love salt and other days it just whips you. I could not finish the goat. Salt just killed me.
Daniel Perkins
The food was good. The copper bunny was fun. But, it was so loud (think packed sports bar) that we couldn't have a conversation at a table for two. My seat also faced a brick wall, so I didn't get a chance to enjoy the restaurant's pretty atmosphere.
Christi Bonura
Our dinner was beautiful and tasty from beginning to end! We started with the Conch Croquettes/Pickled Pineapple Tartar Sauce that were a little flavor bombs. For first courses we had the Caribbean Seafood Pepper Pot that came with an Asparagus Creme Sauce. It was light and beautiful. We also had the Marinated Shrimp/Roasted Jalapeño Jus that was the best flavor of the night! It was essentially the flavors of a ceviche, but I cannot adequately describe the elevation and care of each component of the dish. Just try it for yourself! For our main dishes we had Jerk Black Drum/Turnips/Radishes where the best part was the turnips and radishes. The drum filet was obviously from a larger drum which made the meat a little on the tougher side, but it was cooked beautifully. If the restaurant starts purchasing smaller black drum, this dish will be solid. The other main dish we had was the Curried Goat/Sweet Potato Gnocchi/Cashews that was perfect. It was excellent flavor and texture do I wouldn't change anything about it. We added an order of Black Eyes Peas/Bacon/Crispy Shallots that was very well done and tasty. Overall a great experience from atmosphere to staff to food.
Barbara Gatlin
I ordered the hot fire chicken and wow...this dish was outstanding...arrived at my table hot, fresh and bursting with flavor. The waitstaff were professional and were well versed on the menu items..which was very helpful. The decor is very nice and the overall vibe is fun and friendly.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on vacation for a week in New Orleans. We had the marinated shrimp with jalapeno jus, curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi, and pumpkin agnolotti with a great granola crunch. Everything was great.
We decided to return for dinner later in the week and it was stellar. Loved the oysters and conch fritters (got an additional order of fritters to go for late night snack in hotel room). The shrimp with calabrian chili butter was shaking-my-head amazing, and the shrimp scialatielli with rundown sauce was perfect. Wonderful textures and flavors.
A great vibe there, very spacious, cool art.
James Bonin
Interestingly prepared food but chef has to put the saltshaker away. Really excessive amounts thrown on every dish. I had the curried goat and it's essentially a nicely prepared curried goat with tons of salt on it. You will find as good in any decent Caribbean restaurant. A bit too much allspice as well. Nice desert but it really is just a step above a beignet. They also have an annoying habit which I have found in other New Orleans restaurant: if you arrive 15 minutes before your reservation they make you wait until the exact time of your reservation, despite there being empty tables. Maybe this is to pace the kitchen but it's highly annoying/slightly pretentious. It also gets the evening off to a really bad start having to walk around the block of an unknown neighbourhood. The front of house staff recommended we wait at the bar but there was no place at the bar. When we told them this they said we could order a drink and wait in the lobby of the hotel, but we had to close up at the bar before we could sit at our table. Why, don't they trust people who make reservations there? Not a great way to start the evening people. Wines by the glass were very good but the wine list is quite extortionate. 50+ dollars for a 2016 Muscadet. I reckon that's probably about a 500% markup. Despite the fact that we had booked the table 3 weeks before they sat us at the back of the restaurant not too far from the restrooms. Thanks. It was jampacked on a Monday night so the owners of this place have nothing to worry about. I won't be returning and I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone, but very much doubt if this matters whatsoever.
Constantinos Michael
Went there for lunch after a couple of days of eating fried food. I enjoyed it very much! The appetizers were all fantastic (tuna tartare was my favorite) and both mains we ordered, the fried chicken and the goat curry, were excellent.
Casey Olyer
Great service to complement great food! We tried a lot here and were not disappointed. Biscuits with honey butter were crispy, flaky and delicious. Arancini comes with a mojo sauce that we could have drank. Tuna tartar is packed with flavor, the banana chips were okay. Curried goat was my favorite, very rich hearty flavor. The pork was incredibly tender and flavorful. Side of gnocchi with poblano, corn and creole seasoning was so creamy and yummy...I wouldn't pass that up. Lastly, we tried the banana zeppole with hazelnut and a rum caramel sauce. Mouthwatering, seriously. Really enjoyed the overall experience.
Caroline Mendez
Food is spectacular as well as the service. Tuna tartar is an absolute must have.
Daniela Jorge Ayoub
My mom, who is impossible to impress, left NOTHING on her plate. One of the guests said, “This wasn’t a meal, it was an experience.” So simple, so delicious... transported us without any pretention. The service matches the cuisine. Truly a joy. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 …
Samantha Wolf
Food was amazing, and the service was fantastic. Had the curried goat and snapper for entrees, can’t recommend enough. Every bite was a treat. The chef is highly regarded, and she deserves every bit of the hype!

Favourite meal in New Orleans. Really creative menu that really tells the story of the chef's heritage. Caribbean/creole food that will bring a tear to your eye.
Ash Edwards
We ate here on Xmas Eve. The food was wonderful and as recall the menu was Prix Fixe. And while it was expensive the portions were quite small. Our tradition is to dine out in NOLA on Xmas Eve so have a bit of experience with the city's offering and this was surprising.
Luis
After dining at Campere, I can fully understand all the great reviews this restaurant has. They make you feel welcome and at home from the moment you get in through the door. The food was outstanding, this is definitely a restaurant that I will always remember and a great place to have my bday dinner. We had : Sounds a-lot for two, but it really wasn't, the small plates are actually small plate, which we liked since we got to try many things. (maybe two starters and two entries where going to be enough) Thank you to Mignon (which I hope I'm writing it correctly) for making me and my BF feel welcomed which made our dinning experience perfect. Conch Croquettes/Pickled Pineapple Tartar Sauce Crispy Dirty Rice Arancini/Sour Orange Mojo Cobia/Passionfruit/Yucca Snapper/Escovitch/Carrot Beurre Blanc Duo of Pork/Eggplant Puree/Summer Squash ONE OF THE BEST PORK MEDIUM RARE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

This was the best meal we had in New Orleans by far. The small bites -- croquettes and arancini -- are fried balls of stuff, good on their own, but the sauces they come with are extraordinary. Then we had an assortment of appetizers (from the "First" menu heading): Cobia, a salad with fish and grapefruit, very well balanced; marinated shrimp, a spicy salad with lots of greens and jalapeño slices; and finally the highlight of the night: crispy snapper collar, perfectly cooked and paired with a great sauce. The soursop semifreddo we had for dessert was the only miss -- it had little flavor and was too sweet. The service was flawless.

We had no preconceived ideas - happened to walk past so we called in. Liked it a lot - the ambiance, staff and food all good and it just fitted the bill for what we wanted - somewhere casual with well presented tasty food and friendly staff. We called in another day to try their cocktails - Scott the bartender was helpful and made a lasting impression.

If you're the type of person like me who prefers to sit at the bar to listen and watch the goings on around you as you eat then I most DEFINITELY recommend doing that here ..I knew the food would be good ..I've read the reviews but what I didn't expect is for my palate and senses to be further heightened by the quietly offered alcohol parings by Jordan who was working there creating beautiful cocktails infront of our eyes. His first suggestion of a chocolate coffee stout called Reve was delicious and then he quietly blew my mind with a musky but sweet French cider along side my cheese board.. They melded in my mouth perfectly. I want to go back to learn more.

Looked forward to this meal on our visit to NOLA. We were a party of four seated an awkward table where 3 people sitting next each other on a bench and a loner sat at the far end of the table. We tried to move closer to each other and were informed our fourth person could not move his chair bc it would be awkward for our server. Which I guess is fine. It was the snide comments from the server after she went and told the host to come talk to us about it that almost ruined our meal. Patronizing servers are not good for business. Luckily for the restaurant, it is a cute place with good food that made this a 4 star.
Brittany Flynn
My husband and I had come directly here as it is one of our "new" list restaurants to try in New Orleans. We stumbled upon it after having a really terrible experience at Mais Arepas and it resulting in no food. Needless to say we were both hungry. Our waitress Mijon was very direct and detailed about the food. She also knows her flavor pallet to help direct you around the menu and make amazing suggestions. We had the Lamb curry, the oysters flown in from Seattle (to try, neither of us had had them before) and I can't remember the noodle dish we had that has this amazing buttery cheese herb sauce with shrimp and clams! The flavors were exotic yet paired well for a new twist of finer dining in New Orleans. Long story short, go it's amazing and they are very friendly and the service is amazing!
beth johansen
Phenomenal.
After being disappointed by the highly rated restaurants in the touristy French Quarter, we decided to venture out and this place was an absolute gem.
The food was inventive and delicious. Everything from the freshly made biscuits to the dessert was executed flawlessly. Kudos to the chef and his/her team.
A worthy place to visit.
Definitely will go back.
Skip the touristy French quarter restaurants (except for the beignets at cafe du monde) and try Compere Lapin, Commander's place, Coquette, Peche and Two Chicks Cafe.

Omg y’all. The food… y’all. Omg. Special shout out to Summer for making the experience even better.
Patti Crosby
This restaurant never fails to amaze me with her delicate blending of ingredients & subtle building of flavors in every dish. From the start with the light flakey biscuits accompanied by the sweet and savory fraternal twin butters to the spicy pig ears with just a hint of lime squeezed on top to temper the saltiness and smoky creamy dip. We ordered the special -Ox tail with the marinated pineapple for our first dish and split the jerk black drum with a side dish of gnocchi and collards with semolina topping. It had the just the right amount of spice. The craft cocktails never disappoint either. Dessert is always the hazelnut filled zeppolies with crushed hazelnuts and powered sugar along with a caramel syrup surprise to pour over for added decadence. With 2 people splitting all the dishes with cocktails and dinner all under $100 with tip. Servers and Valet deserve an honorable mention making sure our food came out in a timely manner with the dining room packed on the week before Mardi Gras! Keep it up Nina - we come to dine just to see what you pull out of your magic hat every year and it’s not just a rabbit!
Clementine Young
Amazing dinner. Everything was delicious. Our waitress (Claire) was super nice and very enthusiastic about the food, which made dinner even more enjoyable. I will be visiting again next time I'm in New Orleans.
Lisa E McKim
Unbelievably good! Chef Nina Compton is a pure genius. Beautifully crafted, creative appetizers, meal and cocktails. Well-designed space with superb service.
Vicky Leininger
Amazing food and service. Our waitress was able to explain each dish thoroughly and we were never left with empty water glasses. Great location too! I suggest the brussel sprouts and curried goat.
Dale Stahl
This was one where expectations outmatched reality. The starters and first courses were solid, though we weren’t big fans of the pig ears (too chewy). The mains were where things fell apart. The agnolotti was super salty, a fact that couldn’t be remedied by the radishes’ bitterness. The goat curry was one note; I’ve had better. The jerk chicken stood out for its spice. Honestly, we expected a lot more based on reputation and price point ($185 with tip for two).
Wouter de Bie
Yes! Yes! Yes! Nina Compton does it very well. We went here for New Years Eve and Compere Lapin didn't disappoint. The food was amazing, the service impeccable and the drinks terrific. This restaurant should be on everyone's NOLA restaurants list.
Rae Joseph
I can’t get enough of this place. We celebrated my friend’s birthday with brunch here and every single item from appetizer to dessert was memorable and delectable. Every bite was filled with flavor. I can’t wait to return on my next visit to New Orleans.
Molly King
The conk bites were incredible. Delicious cocktails. Still drooling over the Scialetielli with shrimp. Service was excellent.
Zachary Rodriguez
Always a test. Everything is perfectly balanced. Nina Compton has outdone herself and she also had some bomb chefs working here. My two favorite dishes are the curried goat and tuna that tar. And if there's a pasta special get it!
Adam Seipel
The braised goat was one of my favorite food experiences ever. I usually don't notice textures, but the way that the different components played off of each other was undeniable. Can't miss dish... Oh, and I'm team honey butter all day
Yoon Soo Park
Fantastic restaurant with great New Orleans style food. The pig's ears and tuna tartar were great appetizers. The bread is also amazing. The fish goes well with the gnocci on the side.
Ian Green
We were put off by the service. Our server couldn't crack a smile. Everyone working there was "too cool for school". We only had appetizers and drinks. The food does seem quite good.
Nico Colic
Easily the best, most interesting dishes I had in New Orleans. Very friendly waiters, fantastic wine. Also very nice cocktails. Can get a bit packed.
Jason Monroe
Loud, but the food was good. I had a Louisville Slugger cocktail and it was really nice.
It's a pretty standard chef's restaurant, so the meal is pretty, but slightly undersized for my preference.
Sally Wightkin
Drinks were FABULOUS. The food was ok at best. The presentation was great and service excellent but one thing New Orleans is known for is it's food. I doubt that I will ever go again
Pelumi K
Food was good and service was excellent. Less Caribbean than I was expecting so don't expect super strong flavors but the food is still good. Worth a try, not sure if it's worth retuning to if your not in the area so I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
Jennifer Linder
OMG - get the curried goat. You will not regret it!! First come first served seating at the bar in case you can’t get reservations!!
Neha Patel
Delicious. Seriously good, an experience. I just finished a divine brunch, the everything bagel tartar and the goat bolognese were SO good, after my last bite I seriously debated ordering both things again right then and there. I am sad, legitimately SAD that the meal ended. Planning on being back for sure. Mmmm *smacks lips*
Herakles Li
Long wait even for a late weeknight dinner was worth it to sample the foods here. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was delicious. Don't hesitate to give this place a try when you are in New Orleans.
Jennifer Buntz
Food was good, but not very accomidating for vegetarians.
Hari Subhash
Was excited to try this place. This was the last meal of our vacation and it was underwhelming. Everything was tasty but nothing stood out. I have had similarly good meals for less than half the price.
Clayton Moliver, MD
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood. Then because getting a seat as a single traveler is rather difficult I stood at the bar and was mesmerized as I watched the really talented barkeeps whip up all sorts of cocktail sorcery. Then a sweet couple gave up their seats and I sat down for dinner. Alex was my tender/waitress/sommelier. Bread fresh baked small scones with two different herbed butters. Wow. Then tuna tartare with whipped avacado and delicate slices of radish with cilantro paired with a cool Chablis. Oh my. Entree was goat stew. Wow. Just wow. Spicy and sublime. This with a French burgundy. All delightful. Did I mention I started this all with Talisker storm neat? No wonder they were a James Beard 2018 winner. Very attentive staff as well and not pushy, obscure but polite.
David Nelson
Ate at the bar and received excellent service. Had the snapper and broccoli rabe and the combination was fantastic. The crowd was lively and jumping. Overall, excellent dinner.
Fabrianne Pedregon
Went for a few happy hour drinks...$6 old fashion and daiquiri...so good
Karen Holmes
Warm ambiance, expertly crafted cocktails, attentive and knowledgeable service, and spectacular food. Chef Nina Compton thoughtfully fuses luscious Caribbean flavors into whimsically fun dishes for a truly memorable dining experience. Try the conch fritters, steak tartare, broiled shrimp with chili butter, curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi, black drum with beurre blanc, and iron skillet spinach cavatelli in fontina fondue for for truly one of the best meals you will ever have in NoLa. Also the basil-infused pina colada and banana-nutella zeppoles with rum caramel sauce are not to be missed. Highly recommended!
Betty Fraser
Great food, excellent hostess
Adam Brissman
Cool place, and 20 pound copper bunny drink.. food very good also, five stars for the price! The broiled shrimp and the drum were our favorites..
Charlie Burke
This was everything I wanted out of the New Orleans food scene. I went here for lunch while I was in town for a work conference and it was so good that I went back for dinner. I will be making a stop here the next time I travel back to NO for sure. Wait staff is both knowledgeable and very friendly. Highly Recommend.
Kizzy Vieux
Not bad Chef Nina... not bad at all.
Karen Toomey
Lovely lunch and great cl pims cup. Shrimp grits sausage with fried egg and pan seared drum. All good. Nice atmosphere and attentive service.
Sam Stone
Hands down my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. There’s nothing quite like their homemade biscuits and freshly salted butter. There’s nothing groundbreaking about the interior (yet another Edison bulb filled restaurant) but the food and craft cocktails are sure to delight. Chef Nina Compton is a Nola gem.
Theresa
Fabulous food that stands out in a town of outstanding restaurants. Delicious fusion - with some Caribbean flavours added to the already rich and diverse New Orleans cuisine heritage/roots.
Cesar Vargas
I was a great culinary experience. Great food Excellent service and nice environment great variety of wines and the food I just amazing how they have the perfect balance between spicy flavors and smoke flavors and chef Nina compton knows what she doing
Jiaming Li
Forget about asking this place how long the wait is usually, because no matter how many time you ask, you would not get an answer.

Last month we found ourselves in New Orleans for the nation’s largest cocktail festival and biggest drinking event of the year, Tales of the Cocktail. But boozing for four straight days is only one of the reasons we planned a trip to NOLA; the other is to finally visit Top Chef New Orleans runner up and fan favorite, as well as former Scarpetta chef de cuisine and bona fide badass Nina Compton.
After 13 delicious years in Miami — a place the St. Lucia native called home — and as fate would have it, Compton packed her knives and traded one swamp for another after falling in love with New Orleans while filming the Bravo show and realizing this was the city she wanted her first restaurant.
Nestled within the lobby of Old 77 Hotel (named No. 7 Best City Hotels in the US by Travel & Leisure), one might inadvertently walk into Compère Lapin’s modern industrial meets old-world French open space completely unaware of what they’re about to stumble on. Named after a mischievous rabbit from Caribbean and Creole folk tales that Compton read as a kid, Compère Lapin is a trip down the culinary rabbit hole.
Compton has taken her many and vast years of experience under gastronomic legends — French foundation and technique from Daniel Boulud, Italian influence and bravado from Scott Conant, elevated tropical Latin flair from Norman Van Aken — and fused it with her roots and the vibrant and rich creole traditions New Orleans is known for to cook up food that’s traditionally untraditional. There are no tricks. No gimmicks. No overly fancy or trendy ingredients. And most importantly, nothing you’d expect to eat while in NOLA (i.e. beignets, crawfish boil, gumbo), but rather the type of unusually comforting yet complex fare that one constantly craves but can hardly find, anywhere.
Must be the reason why on a Friday at noon there’s a wait time for a table and the 80-foot cocktail and raw bar made from reclaimed pine from other areas of the hotel was completely full (luckily, we had reservations). “Friday lunch in New Orleans is an event (one with cocktails)”, says Larry Miller, Compton’s hubby and front of house maven. And Compère Lapin was indeed the most eventful and memorable dining experience of the entire trip right from bread service, which here comes in the form of heavenly Buttermilk Chive Biscuits with honey butter and bacon butter.
Our meal started with Charcuterie that would make all other boards jealous (there were head cheese croquettes and dense yet airy foie and chicken liver mousse), and went only up from there. Mouthwatering cold smoked Tuna Tartare with avocado and crispy bananas was a seamless balance of fatty, flesh, and crunch. Shrimp marinated in a robust and bright green roasted jalapeno jus was an explosion of zest and subtle but resilient heat. Scotch Deviled Eggs will never be the same thanks Compton’s off-menu twist on the rife classic that had our entire table in awe and savoring every bite.
Entrees are even more multifaceted and unpredictable, namely Curried Goat with sweet potato, wait for it, gnocchi whirling in its self-induced piquant fluids and crowned with chopped cashews for a nutty finish. It’s everything you’d expect and more from the queen of gnocchi herself. (Watch her make the soft dough dumplings here). Hot Fire Chicken is fried to golden perfection and erupting with intensity that’s leveled out with cooling pickles, tart and juicy chunks of mango, and sweet squash. A daily special of black and white al dente pasta Vongole finished with breadcrumbs should be on the menu.
Endings are usually bittersweet. Not at Compère Lapin, which culminates with a deconstructed velvety lime Cheesecake that foregoes original crust for a cashew krokant and caps it off with mango granita. Another hit was the deconstructed Caribbean Rum Cake with caramelized pineapple & coconut sorbet. Beignet what?!?
Nina, New Orleans is lucky to have you…

Fun environment, good food, good service, good drinks. Was I blown away? Not really. Will I go back? Meh. Probably not. As a local it's not on my list. As a visitor I would say go if you want southern food with a twist.
Sara Ann
Gorgeous Hotel bar where Brandon made me a variation on a Manhattan that I had never tried before. The bartenders are magicians.
John Pettrone Jr.
Everything I had here was ridiculously good. Best meal I've had in a very long time
deneeb ruiz
We went there excited about the fried oyster sandwich and left extremely disappointed. Oysters were over cooked and the batter was burned. Appetizers and service were good though
Divaldo Camara
Very confuse, inattentive and slow service. The food range from excellent dishes (pig ear, goat and bread) to regular (hamashi and the beignet for dessert). The whole experience was really ruined by the service.

Pork was a bit salty and bland, biscuit dough a bit undercooked. Ordered coffee and never got the sugar until i finally got the attention of one of the waiters, so coffee got a little cold in the meantime (and who doesn't have brown sugar nowadays).
Colin Tully
Perfectly fine mid-range restaurant. Really enjoyed the meal, and the cocktails are fun!
