Reviews of Cafe Maspero
Kerry Pancoast
Cafe Maspero is a must when coming to New Orleans. The price was right and the portions were huge. Six of us shared 3 fried sea food platters. We were stuffed and couldn’t finish them even sharing with others at the table. I’m not a fish/seafood fan normally but would order the gulf fish again in a heartbeat. AND the hush puppies were prepared perfectly. Our waitress took fantastic care of us. Wish I could remember her name to give her props. If we weren’t already planning to try different cuisine every night I’d eat there the rest of our trip.

I would say this is an OK restaurant considering the vast amount of choices in New Orleans. The building’s architecture is beautiful. Food was OK. Something I noticed was that the vents that run along the ceiling were dripping water, which is normal due to condensation; but with that said, I am glad we weren’t one of the tables seated under / close to the vents as I wouldn’t want that water dripping on the food or myself.

Cafe Maspero is located in the heart of the French Quarters and makes for a great sit down option right in the middle of it all.
We came here late on a Friday night before starting our night on Bourbon Street looking for a good meal to get started. We both ordered fish for the Gulf, a beer, and fries, and japeno hushpuppies.
It was incredibly well done and I think my top meal experience in New Orleans.
Service was prompt, and polite, atmosphere was awesome. Calm and relaxing inside of the restaurant, but lots of city bustle to watch outside, windows and doors surrounding the restaurant are wide open, so you able to side inside an eat while still enjoying the sights and sounds of the French quarter, though if you're by a window or open door, it's liable to get cold in the events, so, dressing comfortably will make your dinner worth more while.
Definitely recommend!

Ordered the gator was a little slim as far as quality I spoke with the manage and simply told him it was a little light. He sent us some more gator. The jambalaya is pretty good my buddy said the stuffed fish is excellent. I tried a piece of the fish and thought it was pretty good myself.

Staff is very nice and knowledgeable and the food is great! Very well priced for the amount of food that you get! I loved that there was no wait and the tables are spaced out well so as to not feel claustrophobic like other eateries in the area. One thing to be aware of though is that it is a slightly open air place so you may have some cute little bird friends come up to your table to visit!

While visiting New Orleans, we wanted to revisit a past dining experience and stopped into Cafe Maspero. Upon check-in, the host was less than happy to accommodate a table for 4. No greeting, no smile, no sense of wanting to be there in the least! Once inside, our waiter, Antwann, quickly changed the mood. He was friendly, informative and made us feel right at home. We dined on fried alligator, Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, Maspero’s Chicken Sandwich, and Crawfish Étouffée. The food was hot, fresh and tasted like New Orleans! As a bonus, we ordered the jalapeño hush puppies! Would highly recommend this establishment (forget about the host)!

Good food along Decauter St.
I've been eating here off and on for about 10 years. They are always good. I had the Gumbo and the Red Beans and rice this time.
Well made, balanced flavors. I wish I could fix my red beans that creamy. And the Gumbo roux was really good.
The tab was kind of high. Turns out that if you get the sausage with the beans it literally tacks on $12. Not sure about that. But live and learn I guess.
Service sucked. It's wasn't pack, just our waiter wasn't that attentive. Oh well, welcome to NoLA.

Casual, Fast, Friendly & Efficient. After a long drive through traffic across state this was a soul comforting meal in a chatty casual atmosphere. Ordered the calamari entree & it was so comforting. Thanks y’all for seating, taking my order & having my food in front of me neatly within 7 minutes. #ComfortFoodHaven

I really liked the atmosphere. Very laid back. I ordered the Veggie Muffalettas. This was a new experience...An olive sandwich with cheese on a toasted bun. Great combination
James Porter
Always solid food and good service. Gabrielle was a fantastic server! I try to get here for at least one meal every time I’m in New Orleans especially if you don’t want to spend a ton and still get good food.

We went into a place a corner away and left, they were so rude, boy am I glad! The staff here is great, but the food was so uniquely put together and perfect!!! Lots of beers, the old wood is beyond distinctive. I wud com again anytime. Thanks!!
Erick Schuck
The food was great. Loved the calamari and crayfish ettofee. My wife like the muffaletta.
Liz Deutermann
Wanted a muffuletta and this place got high marks from other reviewers so I gave it a go. Great muffuletta, good ambiance, good service. It was slow and I was in need of a meal before my next sight, and wanted to write some postcards, so I parked myself at a table. My waitperson was kind enough to keep my water glass full. The muffuletta had just the right amount of olive salad, the cuts of meat were tender and flavorful, and as always that bread is the stuff. Will definitely be going back to try other stuff on the menu!
Tony T
Awesome food. Was busy but wait staff kept up as best they could.
Bollens
Food was good, service was poor. $1 daiquiris are small but worth it, especially if you take some to go when you leave. Was very excited to eat here but was a bit of a let down.
Todd Ebersole
Did have a meal here but the banana bread pudding is some of the best bread pudding ever. I also recommend the French Quarter Margaritas.
Jennifer Rinehart
The muffaletta was pretty tasty. The staff were friendly. The hurricane was great!

Cafe Maspero has the Best Service & Staff anywhere in the French Quarter. And the food is excellent. Everything was the right temperature and succeeded our expectations. We went there for breakfast and got the garden fresh omelette & delicious Beignets. I ate so fast we forgot to snap a picture. Our waiter Tez (light skin Guy with beautiful thick long hair) was Outstanding! He had a wonderful New Orleans accent and really made us feel valued and at home. A very good waiter. The Service was so great we came right back for lunch. We got a fried chicken salad and a Caesar salad, Both were delicious!!! And the service was still wonderful. Cafe Maspero Y’all The bomb! Thank you for giving us the BEST experience in Southern Charm in New Orleans!!
Jeffrey Yonkin
This was our first taste of new Orleans. We had a new waitress, so she had to come back a few times for clarification but overall experience was great. The manager came around and ensured all of our needs were met. The bartender was top absolutely top notch. I'll report back after trying out the bottomless mimosa breakfast!
ashley james
Started pouring rain so we ducked in to let the rain pass. Outstanding Mardi Grita and banana bread pudding. Relaxing atmosphere.
Jessica Claudio
We visited for lunch during the last day of our honeymoon trip. The food was delicious. Great portions and perfectly priced. We had the carAfe of blackberry sangria. The best stuff around. So good you could drink it all day. The place was not busy when we sat down but the staff must have been short handed. The bartender was our waiter and he was running around like a chicken with his head cutoff. It did get busier as we ate and he was struggling to juggle it all and we got sort of forgotten. We had to find our own napkins and silverware.
Jason The Car Guy
Waitress was on point! Drinks were great! Food was even better! 10/10 would recommend

Bartender was one of the nicest ladies I ever met and the beignet sticks were delicious. However the bar was dirty, it smelled, and we truly did not enjoy the bread pudding. The texture was great but it had way too much nutmeg. The bathrooms were so gross I would only recommend them if it’s an emergency!
Tommy LaConte
Very good sandwich, beer was cold and staff was friendly. Nice place too. I would come again.
Dave Gibb
It was suggested to me to come eat here so we had supper last night of our second trip to NOLA, this is one place we will return. Had an appie dinner, my wife and are not huge eaters. Had the seafood combo with the catfish, shrimp and calamari as well as the gator fry. Excellent so fresh and not too much batter. Thank you from Canada
Bob Forest
Staff was excellent and great service. My son highly recommends the cheeseburger. My wife and I had a overpriced salad at $16.00. For the price I expected croutons, bacon, eggs, and a true salad. What we got was lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and cheese. So wish we knew this before selecting. One time experience never to return.
Diane Trejo
Food & drinks were good... ONCE we finally got them! Appeared to be short staffed. No one attended us to be seated, bartender took our order, food arrived before drinks, had to go ask for water, 2 drinks came & had to ask for the rest of our order! Food was done before we received drinks.
3 stars because Food was good... I wanted more lemons but server never came around
Francis Abbott
Service was quick for a working lunch! Food was hot and flavorful! Modified my food from the menu with no problems!
Lizzy Woodward
We came into the restaurant right at closing soaking wet, cold, and hungry!! They were sweet enough to let us in and feed us! Their muffuletta was stacked with meat and the olive salad was delicious! A family friendly casual lunch or dinner spot with Nola charm!
Andrea Gorman
I go to a lot of restaurants. I live somewhere where I could go to a different restaurant everyday and still have to take a few years to for them all.
But this one rises above the rest all because of our server. I do not remember his name but I do remember he is from Connecticut. I'm used to telling people about my shellfish allergy, though I hate doing it because I know it is a hassle. But our server cared so much about my allergy, going above and beyond to make sure that I not only enjoy my meal there, but also not have to leave in an ambulance. He sat with me to go over the options I had and what could and could not be substituted.
I've had this allergy for most of my life, and I've been to restaurants that I paid $50+ for just a plate of food, and never have I ever received such great service as with him. I'm kicking myself that I don't remember his name but I definitely won't forget this experience.
BTW the chicken parm bites were delicious!
(I edited a few typos)

Just had breakfast here - the st.Louis sand which and the biscuits and gravy and it was honestly the best breakfast I’ve had here! A lot of the other places I’ve tried are a little overpriced for what it is and trying to be too adventurous for breakfast food and this place was not. Wish I tried it earlier in the trip but I will be back when I’m in NOLA again! Tevin was our server and he was the best one I’ve had here we got the bottomless mimosas and he was extremely attentive.
david stempler
Ok food, good service. Great location across from Jackson Square.
Paul Wallace
Great service from Rhonda - top notch!! Interesting food and place to eat :)
Coty Smith
By far the best food we had on our trip. The waiter we ha was amazing. He had lots of character and was very attentive. My Sazerac was immaculate and the gumbo was delicious.
Amanda H
Wasn’t awful, wasn’t great. Definitely wouldn’t call this sandwich a muffuletta. Would try something else if I went back.
Grey Devereaux
I was attracted by the photo on the sidewalk of an incredible looking pastrami & swiss sandwich! As a local, often we do not eat at restaurants in the French Quarter. The photo was VERY accurate! The sandwich, was served hot on texas toast, with fries! DELICIOUS! I've been back. EQUALLY delicious! The Front of the house manager, a treat! GO! You'll be pleasantly surprised!
Rafael Santa-Maria
Waiter Chris, who did great. Food was really good.
M
Disappointed with the quality of some of the food. The seafood platter was perfect, everything was cooked just right. The shrimp seemed to be fresh. The alligator bites were the worst I’ve ever had. They were overcooked (dark with hard meat inside) and overpriced, only enjoyed the fries on the plate. The red beans and rice were good, had a bit of a kick them (I’m not keen on spicy foods).
The service however was good. Our waitress, Amber was very kind and friendly. She helped us with questions we had regarding the menu and never neglected us. Even when she was gone for a while, she came back and apologized for the wait.
I may be willing to give this place a second chance because of the service we received.
Nijat Behbudov
Great vibes, great food and drinks. On the route of the parade Krewe de Vieux. Can get crowded during Mardi Gras weeks.
Alan Sedar
Found this place by chance and were very happy with the food and the service. Started with a Shrimp Remou letta. So good. My husband devoured his Gulf Fish Cafe Maspero. Good jambalaya. My muffeletta was huge and i loved the olive salad.
Our waitress Teerica was an excellent
Server and patiently explained our food choices. A good start to our Nola vacay.
Prude L
Had the Poboy and the trio - etouffee, jambalaya and rice and beans, didn’t disappoint. Restaurant is on a busy street intersection, it’s very noisy but nice for people watching. Five star rating just for the food.
Thomas Burns
We loved this place. Came on a slow night and got treated like royalty. Manager came to our table and gave us great suggestions on where to go for great music, and they were right!
Ireneusz Kramarz
The low star rating is mainly due to the fact that portion sizes are inconsistent. I had benedict it was ok sized, my wife's breakfast came without toast, sunny side up eggs were still raw and portion was very small. My daughter's kids breakfast was TINY! 1 egg sunny side up, HALF a small toast, and single super narrow strip of bacon for $9. The plate looked literally funny, almost empty when she got it, and she's a skinny 9yr old that doesn't eat much. I didn't take a photo of it, but we all laughed at that "meal" as I have never seen anything like that. Restaurant was overall a little dirty, and food wasn't very good. Btw we eat out quite a bit. Go to Oceana instead, it's amazing.
Spencer Hedges
My wife and I don't always visit Cafe Maspero when visiting the French Quarter but it has been a regular lunch stop over the years. If you're looking for a substantial meal of fresh, deep fried, seafood at a good price, this is the place to visit! The calamari is especially good.
Dave Piehl
Positive: 10:00am on a Saturday immediate seating and food coffee. Otherwise, an okay garden omlet and watered-down orange made it a generally passable but not great breakfast. It may have been worth a wait elsewhere.
Gus O'Neil
A great little place with fantastic breakfast that's fast, tastey, and not crazy expensive. I highly suggest their Bloody Mary and if you stop in for dinner (wich is also tastey and reasonably priced) get the Beignet Fries for dessert. You'll thank me later!
All in all a great, quick place in the French Quarter with friendly staff and good food.
Cecilia Jeong
This place is so underrated. We got the trio with gumbo, jambalaya, and etouffee (all delightful). Nieche was lovely and so kind. Called her auntie by the time we left!

This was a highlight of our trip to New Orleans, food is amazing. I had the muffaletta and the fried alligator, both were great. The service was spectacular as well both times we went.

Café Maspero on Decatur street sits on the corner and opens up to both sides of the street. With all of the open air and the clear dining restrictions in place and being followed properly, there was no better choice for a nice meal to kick off our day in the Quarter. We were hoping to find some decent food to hold us over until we went out to dinner later that night, but we found much more than just decent food in this charming mainstay of The Big Easy.
This cool little spot offered a semi-open kitchen plan and fully visible bar area with many tables for dining in. We got lucky and caught a bit of a somewhat cooler morning in the middle of an otherwise sweltering hot week (if you have not been to New Orleans in July, do yourself a favor and avoid it like the plague) and the cross winds we were being hit with from being surrounded on two sides by open air was quite nice. I guess all that's left to do is order a breakfast beverage, right?
Chas decided to check out the validity of their Bloody Mary (as he often does) and Chuck went with "The Voodoo Doll". The Bloody Mary was quite good and the Voodoo Doll was a very sweet concoction of Rum, Banana Liqueur, Blue Curacao and fruit juices that was nice and light for an early day sipper, not to mention the layered colors were beautiful.
For our meals Chas decided to order "The Atchafalaya" and Chuck went with "The Big Breakfast". The Atchafalaya was definitely a New Orleans original and the first either of us had ever heard of this. It was a three-egg omelet that was stuffed with onions, bell peppers, crawfish stuffing, and then topped with crawfish etouffee. The flavor was very good on the etouffee and the stuffing. Strong Cajun taste, and exactly what you would hope to get when ordering this omelet. The Big Breakfast was very good and there are a few items that stood out in a major way. Firstly, with this breakfast you get a side of Jambalaya. That was one of the main selling points for Chuck because he loves jambalaya nearly as much as babies love their mama's.
What's more is that this jambalaya just happened to be very good. The layering of the flavors and the time and effort it takes to truly blend them was truly evident when tasting this. Secondly, the buttermilk biscuit that came with this meal was quite possibly the best either of us had ever tasted. That is saying a lot, we have had a lot of real home-made biscuits in our lives...but this was something else. That biscuit had us begging for sausage gravy. That biscuit had us begging for jam. That biscuit had us begging for all fried chicken establishments in this country to get with the program and step their game up. All that was left to do was pay the check and of course get some strawberry daiquiris for the road! Nothing like a nice sweet frozen drink with some spirits to tackle walking the quarter in a facemask.
We would really love to go back here once all of the insanity of the virus has ended and see how much energy and excitement surrounds this place. It was a really great meal and enjoyable time but we are willing to bet there is just so much life here when people are allowed to be out and in their element naturally What we can say though is from the solid drinks to the unique omelets to the killer biscuits there is zero doubt...Café Maspero - Didn't Suck!
Stephanie Leigh
Cafe Maspero is a very old and historic building in New Orleans Vieux Carre district. The food here is very good. The atmosphere is casual so you can pop in anytime for a quick bite. The breakfast was amazing. Don't forget to order the Bloody Mary 🍹
Can't wait to go back. Yummy food and great service can't be beat!

This was an impromptu stop wandering around the French Quarter on a Monday evening, 4-5-21. Restaurants are just starting to open up so there have been some hiccups in the city getting back up to full speed. Two of these are labor and supplies. Been to a couple of places were it's evident. Here, they could just use more staff in the front. Servers and hosts were overworked for the amount of traffic. I can imagine that things will get back in order.
I had some great dishes. Started off with the Fried Alligator and Calamari. Both were good along with their sauces. Although a week in this town and the amount of fried food becomes overwhelming.
The French onion soup was amazing. Good strong onion soup base and the cheese topping was broiled brown to perfection.
For dinner the Muffaletta and the Creole Stuffed fish.
"Southern Gulf Fish" stuffed with crawfish dressing, topped with crawfish étouffée sauce, served with seasoned vegetables and Jumbalaya. This was a great choice. The fish was so tasty and the jumbalaya had just the right amount of kick.
The Muffaletta was different from some other local spots, and we loved it. The olive dressing was our favorite among the other local spots.
In summary good food, overworked staff that was friendly but curt; but I'm sure this will only improve. Try 'em out.
Marjorie Gaunt
We got the Taste of New Orleans, Alligator bites, and the Ham w/ Swiss po'boy. Everything was AMAZING! Service was great and they even made suggestions when we had a hard time deciding.

Your money is very well spent here. Everything tasted great. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The whole crew was very friendly and helpful. It was comfortable seating, too. We also came back for breakfast, too: it was damn good! You will not regret coming here.

Great location in the heart of the French Quarter, located in Decatur Street. When the doors are open, you can hear the street musicians playing, the boats from the river and the horse carriages that gives city tours passing by. All while enjoying great, Nee Orleans cuisine. The French soup is absolutely my favorite option on the menu. Amazing, fresh tasting seafood platter. Great post boys. Quick service but you never feel rushed. Friendly staff that know the menu. The building makes you feel like your make in time, has the NOLA authenticity vibe. Great drink options, full bar. Have been going to New Orleans to visit my husband's family for 13 years and this is a must every time.
piscesboy76
Very attentive staff. Super friendly. Novel idea of mixing and creating your own cocktail sauce to your liking made the meal fun. Oysters were cooked perfectly. I've had oysters in different restaurants where they have been overcooked and rubbery. These were cooked to perfection. I love this place, and I will definitely be back.
John K
Staff was friendly and capable. Food was solid. I was hoping for some more alligator plates instead of just a sausage sandwich. The banana bread pudding was awesome and definitely worth getting. The tables are a bit sticky. The ambiance was nice in the French quarter.
Caleb Garner
Get. The. Muffuletta. The fries were also outstanding.
Jillian
I stumbled upon the place a few years ago by accident when I was overwhelmed with all of the food choices in the area. Now it’s my go to spot every time I visit. This time got a shrimp po boy, gumbo, fried alligator, red beans and rice, and shrimp etouffee with some bloody Mary’s to wash it down. I couldn’t find a single thing wrong with anything we ordered If I tried. Already looking forward to my next visit!
Jody Staples
We tried Cafe Maspero for breakfast. I had the Eggs Benedict with bacon, grilled tomato and smoked turkey and a side of jambalaya- very good. The portion size is huge, way too much for one person. You may want to ask if you could get a half order or split the meal with someone. Our waitress was awesome! Very attentive and friendly. I wish I could recall her name she should get a raise!
Talisa
We came here twice during our NOLA stay. The first time was for breakfast. We had the beignet sticks to share and after we both each had the bayou eggs benedict. I absolutely enjoyed our breakfast here. We came back the following day, after I had planned for us the try the muffuletta at Napoleon House, but due to a private event they were closed, so we came to Cafe Maspero instead. We weren't really impressed with the muffuletta unfortunately. FYI the restrooms are bad yikes. Cafe Maspero does need a good scrub down.
Erin Davis
I had the breakfast burger and it was great! Tevin is an amazing server! He made us feel like we were best friends, and was very attentive. Will definitely visit again next time we're in New Orleans.
Greg Johnson
I was tired from running and found some awesome refreshment here. Fried alligator, salad, and fish topped with crawfish etoufee. The entree comes with rice and veggies. awesome sunday lunch just before tropical storm Cristobal landing here in S Louisiana. Glad Cafe Maspero was open right before the landing of the storm. The food tastrs as good as the pictures depict.
Mia Pacey
Awesome sandwiches and great prices. Highly recommend the roast beef sandwich with gravy it was just heavenly. Very flavourful and moist. The service was fast and friendly everyone greeted us with a smile. Great atmosphere as we sat at the bar.
Cindy Keely
Enjoyed this spot near Jackson Square. Building from the mid-1800s. The sampler was very good and satisfying - gumbo, jambalaya, ettoufee, red beans and rice. Good cold beer.
Garth Mattson
Stopped in to Cafe Maspero for breakfast instead of continuing on to a second visit to Cafe du Monde (we were staying at the nearby French Market Inn). So glad we decided to change plans!
We were seated right away and greeted by our server Patty. She was so friendly! My wife ordered the Bananas Foster Pancakes which were delicious and too much to finish, even with my assistance. I had the Deep South Eggs Benedict with Jambalaya which was out of this world. Hot, flavorful and just enough to satisfy my morning appetite. Coffee was great and Patty kept it coming.
Don't hesitate to stop in here, especially for breakfast. It was a great meal at a fair price, and an excellent way for us to end our NOLA honeymoon. Thanks for the great chat Patty, you're awesome!
Pat Duangurai
Blood Mary was very good. Make sure they add the brine in it. Also, don't miss the beignet fries. Personally, I like it much more than the original beignet from cafe du monde.
Mercedes Jayne
Food delish! Short staffed so are at the bar, and bartender's service was top notch!
So intrigued by the infused vodka!
Gary Griffith
Seated quickly and our server was really pleasant. Coffee was the best I've had in this city. Ordered a Muffaletta and gumbo. Both were outstanding. The olive salad on the Muffaletta was the perfect blend. Prices are fine for being on a main tourist thoroughfare. Will be back!
Nikko Kinney
The food was delicious! My wife had a Turkey sandwich, I had Fish sandwich, and my buddy had the Corned Beef sandwich. My two sons split the grilled cheese sandwich. Everything was good as expected. The fish sandwich was on point add the tartar! Beer selection in s bottle was decent had a easy ipa from abita not bad.

While eating here was our second choice, the food was first class. We tried to be seated over by where we parked and the hostess was kind enough to admit they were short staffed and recommended we come here. Great call on her part, yummy food. I only took off marks for the restroom as is was had been used quite a bit that day, and we IT happens. Again very good food, very good service and the young man did have to wait for some of us to translate to Vietnamese for grandma.
David Followell
The spinach and artichokes dip is one of my top 5 I've every eaten, the French onion was amazing, and the seafood platter was great with was very large portion of seafood.
Butters B
Best Muffaletta in the city! We heard they were piled high with meat and they did not disappoint! Chrishonda was fantastic. Ask for her when you go.
Anthony McMahan
Great service, staff was friendly and welcoming! The food and drinks were also pretty good!
Adam Reida
Great food and even better service. Hands down the best service in New Orleans! Stop in enjoy amazing service, great food, and the best $1 Strawberry Daiquiri.
Reen S
We planned to walk to Central Grocery for a late lunch of a muffaletta but came across Café Maspero and decided to try it. I'm so glad we did! We ordered drinks (Hurricane for hubby and a bourbon/sprite for me) and the muffaletta, which comes with fries, to share. Our server was very attentive and answered questions. Food came out quickly, was very hot, and oh so delicious! There was plenty to share for lunch, and we hope to come back and try more options from menu before we leave town. Highly recommend!
Caroline S
You can’t beat the $1 daiquiri and their Crawfish etouffee has SO much flavor!
luke simpson
Great service, environment, and food! The prices were decent, maybe a little on the high side but you get your money's worth. Most of our party split meals and everyone left full. Would recommend and would eat here again.
Joseph Johnson
This is a 4.5/5. Food delicious. Coffee delightful and smooth. Service? Attentive but I wouldn't say hospitable. We arrived at open and we're looking for someplace to have breakfast.....so maybe everyone was sleepy still
William Gadsby Peet
While the food was really good, it's the staff that make this place special - welcoming, friendly and just all around lovely. My visit was actually my very first experience of New Orleans cooking and hospitality - couldn't have been a better start to my trip!
Fannie May
I had the crafish cakes and french onion soup. They were both very good. Our server Rayelle was very personable and sweet.
Kathryn Thatch
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!
The food was absolutely delicious, we had jambalaya pasta & muffaletta...definitely recommend.
Gabrielle was an absolutely awesome server too!
Thanks for such a positive experience!
Dustin Holfinger
Authentic Cajun cuisine and a friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was absolutely great and the host gave a couple great food recommendations. We had the sampler. Don't skimp and get 3, get all 4.
Natalie M
I went here for breakfast with my husband in September. It was AMAZING! I got the eggs Benedict with a crawfish étouffée, and it just melted in you mouth! I wish I could go back and experience it all again!
Maureen Beebe
Sat at the bar for breakfast, food was tasty, came fast, done perfectly, and Teerica behind the bar was Fantastic.

The server was very friendly but my food was cold and I never got my salad.
Amanda Cummings
We visited back in November, and a good friend from New Orleans recommended we check out this place. The food was amazing. I had beignet fries and fried calamari and both did not disappoint.
Our waiter, however, was a bit on the slow side, but was very friendly and shared very honest opinions when we asked about different cocktails. However, I'm not from a place that has a ton of seafood options, so forgot about foods often being fried in the same oil. Wish the waiter would have asked if I was okay with that when I mentioned my allergy and ordered the calamari. C'est la vie! I learned my lesson the hard way, but would love to see this restaurant staff be a tad more thoughtful about food allergies, so other tourists like me don't end up sick all evening or worse.
Mel
Originally wanted to come for drink special but ended up eating here. A but overpriced but decent. Not the nicest thing I had in N.O. but not the worst. Didnt really have any bad food!
Alice
This was one of the only places open on Christmas day without a 1 hour waiting time so we came here for lunch. Good selection of classic creole dishes at a reasonable price.
joseph stuck
We waited for 30 minutes while looking inside you can see several tables open as you can see in the picture. Then when called for our table. We sat at one of the tables that was open. We ordered from this place last night. Food was pretty good.
Marty McMann
Pretty amazing food. We had four people in our group and we all order different things. Each one of us loved our food.
Tuxedo Mechanic
Waitress : Brandi B
Food: 2 eggs anyway and banana foster pancakes, with bacon, toast
Scrambled eggs with corn beef hash
First, and foremost it was a slight wait, but nonetheless the serving size of food was worth the wait. The server was attentive and very observant.
Amy K. Holmes
The best beans & rice in NOLA! Such a beautiful place, right near Jackson Square. Our server Renee was awesome, fast friendly service with tips on how to survive the heat!
Jérémy P
The food was alright but not incredible. A bit pricey for the quality. The quantity was OK.
Kanika M
Great experience. Our waitress was great. Helped me with menu suggestions based on my dietary needs. Also recommended the Hurricane as a mocktail and it was so delicious!!! Very happy with the service.
Ola Alhammami
This cafe is great, they have the crawfish omelet 😍😍😍
Service was awesome and fast, but unfortunately we waited for an hour to get out food, otherwise everything was great.
If you have time and you not starving, I would recommend it.
Shawn Baptiste
Great sandwiches, their poboy is really good, the pastrami and swiss sandwich was awesome great location clean good vine and our server Patrick did a very good job serving us. Thnx
Jeremy Crunk
Food and atmosphere were great, but our server was not good. I imagine she was just having an off day. Regardless, we will certainly try this place again the next time we visit New Orleans.
Staci Myer-Klein
Decent food good service. We had the chicken sandwich, pasta jumbaya and garlic bread. The chicken was the best part of each dish. The atmosphere was chill
Jeffrey Simmons
Delicious. They did everything right here. I will return.
Janel Randall
This place is a favorite and never disappoints. There was no line when we went, but it usually goes fast if there is one. Service was good and so was the food.
Stacey Reisig
The food was good. We stood in line for 25 minutes for a table. Once sat, it was over 10 minutes before someone approved our table to take our drink order. I asked a server for the drink menu, had to tell her I wasn’t sitting at the table she thought. The host took our drink order and informed us the server would be with us shortly. The server apologized that he didn’t know we were his table. We placed our order for an appetizer and 2 entrees. The manager brought us the food. We said we wanted the appetizer before we got our meals. He said, “she didn’t space it out on the order.” Our server was male. We asked the manager for our drinks. The server delivered our drinks and said the bar had lost our ticket. Never once did the manager ask how our meal was. Food was delicious- service sucked and it wasn’t necessarily the server’s fault. I so t be back and I won’t recommend this place to anyone I know
Vivianna Gomez Crowe
Absolutely delicious! I was in the area and was craving a muffuletta, and it exceeded my expectations!! Best muffuletta in town! Must try!!!!
Seth Weston
Ok... The food was good. We stopped in while walking the streets and were seated after a brief wait at the door. There was a decent crowd in the restaurant when we got there. I would have liked to give props to the waiter but he didn't wow us at all. There were a few issues with our order that made the meal very disjointed. We hadn't thought much about it when the manager came to explain the situation. He went above and beyond to remedy the issues which totally changed a decent meal with poor service into a very good experience despite the hurtles we had to cross to get there. I would eat here again. Thank you so much to the manager. You are working hard to provide a good product.
Steve
Didn't write down our order and completely blew it. 1 sandwich was all wrong and waited for a redo. Another was on wrong bread.
julie guerrero
Be prepared to have a good meal at a reasonable price! The Shrimp sandwich (Po Boy) was amazing and big enough to make two meals out of one. The shrimp fresh and cooked to perfection, their Jambalaya flavorful and authentic! I give this restaurant a four and a half star rating would have been a five but the noise level of the bar a bit much!
Jodi Dube
I had the oyster po boy. Excellent! Great atmosphere and service in the French Quarter. Nice big bar and lots of seating with open windows bringing in a nice breeze and allows you to watch passerby pedestrians.
Juan Vila Rodriguez, Tampa Realtor
Great place. Easy to get in, seated and served. Food was good and prices were great. Dress is casual and staff was friendly and prompt.
Melissa W
Food was Ok, service on the slow side, especially since they weren’t busy at all. Way better places to eat.
Zachary Romero
Very short wait time during busy festival. The food came out in a prompt timely manner. Roast Beef sandwich was good but wouldn't run back for another. Other items are great. Our waitress Christi (I believe) was excellent, she earned 5 stars!
Devyn Johnson
I almost never leave reviews but I had such a wonderful experience that I had to leave one. I'm still sitting in the Cafe actually. I am a very picky eater but the stuffed fish was to die for. As my sister said, "we are in food paradise". I really can't get over how good the stuffed fish was. It makes me sad for future food I'm going to eat because it will not amount to how good the stuffed fish was. Whoever made it, thank you.
Mike Mireles
We were visiting New Orleans over the weekend for my 50th birthday and decided to eat breakfast here and man!! So glad we did. We had a party of 10 from Houston so there was a lot of food ordered. All I know is - everyone loved it! I got the biscuits and gravy plate - those biscuits were so damn good. Nice little baked crunch at the bottom. We totally recommend this spot. Staff was super friendly and our server was great.
Angie Kirby
Superb breakfast. We visited here twice during our stay in New Orleans. The omelettes are amazing. We also tried one of the breakfast starters, Andouille sausage covered in pancake batter which was lovely.
Becky Rainey
Delicious Burger. Good drinks. Good service. Neat architecture. Nice vibe.
Tiffany T
We greatly enjoyed our food here. Seriously, they have the best biscuits and gravy ever. I also highly recommend the beignet fries. The only complaint I have is the wait was terrible. There were many open tables, some people left and their tables sat dirty for a long time, and we had to wait for over 30 minutes to get in. Some people got frustrated and left. There was no reason for a long wait, which is what made it frustrating. I'm glad we waited it out because it's a delicious spot to eat, but they need to get better at clearing tables and seating people. Also, the bathrooms are gross. There wasn't any toilet paper either.
Hafsa Khan
Food was great but service was slow and you could tell the wait staff was either inexperienced or slow to get going.
Google User
We had to wait at the door for 15 minutes, but once inside about half the tables were empty. We saw many people leave rather than wait outside. My wife found a hair in her drink, and twice brought it to the attention of the server before that server realized it was a problem for us. The food was good but we checked each bite for stray hair. There are too many other places to eat. I would not return.
Debbie Cantu
Great service! Great food and awesome environment!! The roast beef sandwich was amazing!
Derek A
This is a good place to grab lunch. The service is phenomenal (my hostess was very friendly), the atmosphere is great, and the food is good. I got the trio; gumbo, etouffee, and jambalaya. First time trying the gumbo and etouffee. The jambalaya was awesome; flavorful with a good combination of the components. Etouffee was a little watery but also very flavorful. The gumbo was gamey. Overall, a solid place to have lunch and experience some of NOLA's 'traditional' meals.
Angela Wilkes
I had the best Bloody Mary ever and the pickled veggies came out of the jar in my picture. The staff was a delight. We sat at the bar and I didn't try any food. B
Robert Alexander
We happened by while looking for a place to have breakfast. Covid and the half closed city make meals a challenge. We all enjoyed our meals and left satisfied. Nice atmosphere, great location and attentive staff made this a winner for us
Ari Jiang
Got the beignets fries - it was good. Just overpriced and the service was slow.
Lily McClanahan-Yelton
I came here every day I stayed in New Orleans. I think this is an amazing restaurant, the food taste amazing and the service is the best! 10/10 would recommend!!
Vanya Wilkinson
It filled the spot, I had the jambalaya which was pretty good and my boyfriend had the chicken sandwich which he added bacon and Swiss cheese to, he loved it. We enjoyed sitting by the doors which are open to the street, which had a lot of atmosphere. *top tip* sit on the side street to get away from the cars & motorbikes hot rodding up and down the main st.
Our server Michelle was a real sweet heart 💕
Cindy St.Germain
Come see Jaime! She amazing….best bartender this side of Nola!
jenella herring
The muffaletta was insanely good. The staff was friendly and or grasshoppers excellent.
Dave Smilie
Our family visited on a very rainy summer day. It was very busy but we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes before being seated.
Each our meals was excellent. This is truly authentic Cajun food in a truly authentic New Orleans experience. We will definitely return here for a meal rhe next time we are in town.
Zakiya Hyman
When I asked a local gentleman for the best gator bites, he sent me here. I was not disappointed. The fried gator bites were sooooo good. Our server was really nice. My only complaint is the cleanliness or lack thereof. No one was cleaning under the tables. 😵💫😵💫😵💫 Days worth of trash under them.
Kasey Wilkins
Food was absolutely amazing 🥰 Especially the pasta jambalaya. YUMMY …
Kiarra Bland
I enjoyed my experience here while dining in we were able to catch what appeared to be a wedding celebration going down the street which was nice. I like the atmosphere within; the food was decent. I enjoy the turkey sandwich an mimosas I had for lunch at the bar.
Grant n Erin Bennett Jr
Absolutely delicious gigantic n tastiest muffuletta in town, fiya lil spot n perfect to bring ya babee for a lil drink n cup a gumbo too!
James H
Great food as always. Our server was super friendly and helpful.
Ian Tiele
Cafe Maspero is situated on Decatur street in New Orleans opposite the Jackson Brewery shopping and dining center. My girl friend and I visited the establishment for both breakfast and dinner. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. The cocktails we had with dinner were not particularly good. The service at both breakfast and dinner was top quality. Well worth a visit, but avoid the cocktails is my advice.
Devon Lewis
Absolutely to die for food. We will be back!
Brenda Auvil
We went here specifically for the muffuletta by referral of locals. So glad we did, it was absolutely delicious and huge! It came with fries so good that ketchup was an unnecessary option. The service we received was excellent!
Stacey Canedy
A go to in the French Quarter.....want a bit of what New Orleans cuisine is about tgen get the sampler. The kids meals were so big too!!!
Chris Ellis
Good food and not to busy for lunch on a Saturday. Great vibe and decor.
Josh
Excellent staff and beautiful place! The only thing was when we came here for breakfast my food was a little warm more towards room temperature as if it might have been sitting for a while before being brought out. Prices aren’t too bad compared to other places around them
Christopher Turner
Breakfast food was really good. I would not recommend the burger.
bob bob
Great chili. Wonderful chili. Strawberry dacari was powerful. French onion soup perfection.
Lydia Wang
Food is great. We have ordered the Muffuletta, blackened chicken jambalaya, the flavor of Maspero (jumbo, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee). All are delicious. We've tried some fancy restaurants but this is the best gumbo we've had so far.
The coffee didn't taste too well maybe because it was dinner.
Service is pretty good we had to ask for the coffee we ordered.
Clifford White
Food was pretty good, not mindblowing. Muffaletta and Red Beans & Rice were big portions. Friendly service and nice views from the first floor
Lance Cagnolatti
I love the Gumbo and Jumbalaya. Some of the best I have had outside of my house. The staff is awesome and very friendly. I love coming here.
C G
ABSOLUTELY perfect !! So kind and amazing food !! Atmosphere is great.
This is a MUST stop in New Orleans
Don Gatian
Never had a bad meal. Great service and friendly waiters. One place I stop by when I am in New Orleans.
Joseph Brown
Yummy food and Drinks! Great selection and service!! Small Bathroom!!
Jessica Riggi
A staple in the Quarter that you must go to! Amazing service and the food was excellent. Love the Crawfish!!
sooooo good!
Frank N
I’m right now in the restaurant and almost more than half of the restaurant is empty but the hostess is nice enough to hold people in the line for no reason. Interesting is many of them gave up and left!
The owner should do something about this if he/ she cares about the business.
The staff inside are nice and they take care of you
Alexa Murayama
The staff was friendly and helpful. The Muffeletta was hot versus the traditional which is served cold. However I preferred it hot. I really liked this cafe and will be stopping by every time I visit New Orleans.
SprYtePiXel
A resturant in the French Quartet serving up the standard fare. Not quite as good as i remembered, but was still tastey...(except for the tea, it was pretty stale...but i was there late at night so should have expected that)
rene sagahon
Went there for early breakfast had the bayou. It was delicious. Service was good and nice atmosphere. Been here before. Food was always good not a touristy atmosphere which is a plus
Timothy Strycker
Great place for brunch, great food and service!!!
Philip Bluemner
Good food (Muffaletta well prepared and a very juicy/sloppy Po Boy) but service was not five stars because we felt ignored by our waiter. We asked her a few times for new drinks and a box for take away and she rather looked on her phone
Dawn Simpson
Went for breakfast. Split the big breakfast and beniets. Was great! Plenty of food for more than 2 people. Had to swing back the next day for lunch to try the French Onion soup and Muffuletta! As wonderful the second time as it was the first time.
Vanessa Kenworthy
Not impressed with anything here. Slow to be seated, service was slower, and food wasn't anything special and definitely wasn't worth the wait. Our friendly waiter was the only good part of our visit.
David Brown
Excellent breakfast and Jennifer our server was very attentive. This was our first meal in NOLA and lived up to expectations.
Theresa Bell
Most excellent food! This is one of my go to places in New Orleans.
The French Onion soup is the best. I have been trying to duplicate it for 30 years, unfortunately, unsuccessfully... Excellent deep broth full of onions. Paired with a roast beef sandwich. mmmmm
The Muffalatto is layered with flavorful meat and black and green olive salad with celery, carrots, and tomatoes.
Tried the Taste of Maspero, the gumbo and crawfish etouffee were really good. The red beans were safe, but not well seasoned and the jambalaya was Creole style, not Cajun (I much prefer Cajun).
Reading some of the poor reviews, there was no problem with cleanliness. Waitstaff was freindly, but not very attentive, may be a problem when they get busy. Did get a side salad with the wrong dressing, and couldn't wave down waitress to get it corrected before food came. A salad is not what I would get here.
Stephen Margheim
Breakfast was delicious. Biscuits and gravy and the pancakes were standouts. The lunch chicken sandwich was also delectable; such savory chicken.
Orion Maier
This is a touristy spot, but I'd say it's far better than waiting in line for some other Cafes (Cafe Du Monde). Waitstaff are genuinely friendly and are super fast as well. Window seats are perfect for people watching, especially on rainy days. Food quality and quantity is excellent. You definitely get what you pay for here.
josh mather
What a great place. The hostess was very friendly and inviting when we walked up. You can tell she loves her job. Service was excellent. Our server greeted us right away. She was very comfortable and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the French onion soup to start. It was on point. For my meal I had the pastrami sandwich. It was one of the best I have ever had. The desserts sounded great but room was not on my side. Everyone in the place was friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a quick bite make sure you stop there. You will not regret it.
Mason Inman
A good high-volume restaurant with classic New Orleans dishes. Great for when you need a break from all of the drinking and walking. Also, James was a fantastic server!
Sterling G Leavitt, Jr
The bayou Benedict is out standing! Crawfish etufe on a perfect biscuit. Prices are among the best I have found.
Macy Moore
The food here is fantastic! I got the shrimp poboy and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I loved the food, the atmosphere, and staff.
Brandy Babin
Great food great service...laid back environment just kick back relax and enjoy the food
Lexus Bree
The servers and hostess were super friendly, and that is as good as it really gets.! We got a whole carafe of sangria and we are pretty certain there was hardly any alcohol in it. I guess our expectations for being in New Orleans are that the drinks would be strong or even a little strong. My boyfriend ordered the Blackened Chicken & Creole Jambalaya and it was good (had a few bites myself), nothing special though. I had the fried seafood dinner and it was just that- fried seafood. thats all. Don't have high expectations of this place, its literally just a spot to pop in and grab some food.
Rebecca Frost
Good food. Great atmosphere. Awesome servers. Great place to eat on my visit!
Rich Zambrano
We were seated immediately, however we sat for the longest 5 mins before anyone waited on us. There were 5 of us, so we weren’t hard to miss. Overall, the waitress was really nice, the food came quickly and the jambalaya was spot on!
Brandolyn Cote
Good food, great atmosphere and excellent service!
Kyle Hawkins
We stopped in here for a quick bite and drink while we were in the French Quarter. The gator bites were exceptionally good. Great seasonings and were hot and fresh. We got some adult drinks which were very strong. The waiter was very great and helpful. I’d HIGHLY recommend this place for a breath of fresh air away from the madness.
Neil K
We had a long wait getting in here, despite the fact that were plenty of tables open and available. The menu had a wide variety of different creole foods but unfortunately, this was probably amongst our least favorite places that we ate at in New Orleans. Their muffuletta was very underwhelming and very greasy. The service was also mediocre. The waitresses skipped over our tables several times and never refilled our drinks. I wouldn't recommend.
Molly Boeglin
Delicious food and beer. Friendly fast staff. Bathrooms need an update.
Megan Liddiard
For how expensive this food was, we were expecting much larger portion sizes, and Cafe Maspero unfortunately did not deliver on that. The sandwiches are the only thing that are fairly portioned. The red beans and rice were actually very good. However, our food took way too long to come out and we watched several tables that had come in after us get their food before us. The jambalaya and gumbo were kind of disappointing. The bathrooms are awful too. But overall, it was a decent restaurant.
Erin Dunbar
Our server was great but the food was just okay. Not bad, but I've had better in other states. We were a little disappointed. The atmosphere is lovely though.
James Dominguez
Stopped by this cafe thanks to the very welcoming and SUPER nice gentlemen out front. Kevin. Told the manger he needs a raise!!! Not too many people make you feel like you're welcomed nowadays. That quality is very important to some people. But, we will definitely return on our next visit to NOLA! Our waitress was also very good. She made sure we had everything we needed. The food was pretty good also. The wife and I left there with full bellies.
Britt Ferguson
Thoroughly enjoyable dinner at Cafe Masero! The wait staff, dressed for the Voo Doo weekend, were exceptionally professional and attentive. I look forward to eating there again.
Lorraine Autman
My daughters were in town and wanted a poboy sandwich. We stopped at Cafe Maspero, sat at the bar and ordered. We ordered 2 hamburgers on French bread and 1 shrimp on French. When the orders were delivered, we had 2 hamburgers on buns and the shrimp on French bread. We sent the burgers back and they gave us one burger pattie, cut in half and put on one French bread sandwich! I ordered tomatoes on the side, which were added on my sandwich. My bill was almost $60, and we tipped the wattress $5! My daughters had Sprite and lemonade! When I called to voice my displeasure, I was told that half patties are used on a full sandwich, and inflation was the excuse offered for poor service!
Sherry Hammond
Omg ,I think that this is the best food that I have ever had. The chicken st Charles is to die for.
Dwayne Clark
Great breakfast omelettes, big portions, great employees.
Jagan Gnanasambandam
A good restaurant to have jambalaya and Creole foods. There is not a lot of veggi options but you have options.
Abba
Amazing amazing amazing is the first thing I would like to say about the customer service. We(my wife and I) had the pleasure of having Angela as our waitress. She suggested the atchafalaya, which is the best omelet I've had in a while. My wife had the big breakfast which was more food than one person could eat. The atmosphere was nice, and the food and drinks just topped it all off. Angela was so great we ate their 2 days in a row just to enjoy her and the food. Do try this place when you go to New Orleans and ask for Angela you won't be disappointed.
amandalyn granvold
Came in on a busy day the host seemed to be annoyed with us but but we were immediately greeted by our server he was pretty busy but helped us quickly! The food was good but our the sevice we got from John made our experience 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ i highly recommend him as a server if you go there!!!!!
Jodi James
Super happy to share Beignet sticks and breakfast with my husband here. Leroy was an excellent server. The prices were okay for the French Quarter. Dog friendly and good food.
Steven Green
Ashley was our server and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience if the owner of the establishment served us themselves. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, made excellent suggestions, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. 10/10 would recommend
Brooke Cornelius
It was… ok at best. What made it 4 stars was the waiter we had was super kind, very quick & accommodating.
Other than that, the food was subpar. I got the red beans and rice that came out Luke warm, and my husbands muffuletta was something you’d find in the bottom of a dumpster.. the Italian market that sells muffuletta has muffulettas that’ll KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF.
I am so disappointed in this place because the menu looked so good :(
Sandy Brogan
KK was one of the sweetest waitress we have met. This was the first muffaletta I have had. I highly recommend this place it was wonderful and price was very reasonable!!!
Morgan Hefner
Restaurant was empty but we had a long-ish wait. Just be patient because the food is great. Only thing that wasn't great we're the grits. Husband says mine are better. Our server was cheerful and great to chat with.
If possible sit near the window so you can people watch.
Sonny Crutchfield
The food was good however the service not so much.
We order a starter and got it after the meal was presented.
Had to ask for coffee refill 2 times and the OJ was present warm.
I will try them again but disappointed in this visit.
Shalayna Boss
The staff was super welcoming and friendly when my guy and I've visited New Orleans for my birthday weekend! He lived in New Orleans about 30 years ago and this was one of his favorite restaurants I on the other hand have only been to New Orleans once and was eager to try one of his favorites! He talked the muffaletta sandwich up and said that as much as I love olives he thought I'd love it! He was correct the sandwich was so big and the pastrami salami and Ham was so tender and juicy the olive salad was a little different but I liked it I added mustard to the sandwich with just really set it over the top! If you have never tried this sandwich you're seriously missing out in life! When we come back to New Orleans we will definitely be back because I'd love to try the blackened alligator and their red beans and rice!!
Jeff Rutherford
This place was great. I had the fish sandwich it was very good. My wife had the muf it was very good as well. Out friend had the sea food plate witch was piled high with food! The staff was great and very friendly! We will definitely be going back the next time we ate in town! We met one of the waitress on the ferry in the morning and she started a conversation with us and was very nice. She never told us what she did or where she was going. After we we seated at the cafe she came up to us and said it was nice to see us again. It was very serendipitous. And the whole experience even better.
Alexa Belichick
It was really good. If for nothing else, go for the beignet sticks! Lol
crystal Frazier
Cost time having a Muffaletta and it was delicious. Service was good. Food fresh and flavor was A-one.
Caitlyn Smith
The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and really captures the Downtown New Orleans vibe. Everyone in my group had nice things to say about the food and our waitress was very nice, albeit a bit stressed out. It took maybe an hour from the time we ordered to receive our food. Half our table received their orders maybe 10-15 minutes before everyone else. I do believe that we received a discount on our meals, but it was just a bit unfortunate to come in at a time where the staff was so unorganized.
Ruby Hughes
On Saturday, Oct. 17, were in New Orleans and after waiting all day to eat, we went to French Quarters and on Canal to find a bite to eat. We stopped by Cafe Maspero and thought we were in a for a real treat. First, the drinks were nice and so were the servers, but the deal breaker was seeing the chef in the back plate food with no gloves. I ask Marc to look, to make sure my eyes were not playing tricks one me and they were not. I was livid. After waiting all day to eat, this was a total deal breaker especially with COVID-19 going on. When it was mentioned to our waitress, who was pulling double duty as the bartender, she confirmed later that she asked her to use gloves. We stopped the manager to tell him what the problem was and to ask for our drink ticket. The food still came out and he was willing to do it again, but that was something I was not about to chance. Give granted, we don't always know how our food is being handled, but to see it with my own eyes is a no for me! However, we did leave a nice tip for the waitress because she was super funny and helpful!

This is definitely one to put on you to do's when coming to New Orleans. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and I definitely recommend it. My friends and family also make it a stop every time any of are in town. Friendly staff and with anything they are normally very attentive but you have to take into consideration how full/busy they may be when you visit... Food is on point - hot and fresh when it's served. The fish and shrimp plate is one of my favorites I believe it has oysters as well depending on the season. Great location latest visit was a week ago and even during covid the menu has not changed nor the quality in customer service and most importantly the food is still awesome. If you're in New Orleans this restaurant is definitely worth trying and you just might become a regular when you're in town.
Jenn B.
Eggs Benedict and cheese grits was EXCELLENT!! Big portions, big enough to split for sure.
Tamara Harden
Be prepared and come with a big appetite, or share a plate. My husband and I decided to share a seafood platter, and were so glad we did!! Huge portions, and we didn't even touch the fries!! All the seafood on the platter was super fresh. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and the prices were very reasonable.
Michele Seymore
The wait to get in was too long, especially seeing all the empty tables. But you couldn’t help but to feel for the staff… over worked.. understaffed. Our waitress was sweet.. but she look so tired 😕 …
Courtney F
Service was great. I had a muffaletta. It was huge and served hot. I could only eat half. Steak fries were basic steak fries. Not bad but not fantastic. Our waitress was patient with one of the inebriated people on our group. Would definitely go back. Would probably try something different, though.
Ashwaq Al Hammmami
Try Atchafalaya... it’s totally different and taste delicious 😋😋😋... located at French Quarter …
Julia Murphy
Great place to stop and have breakfast. They have classic breakfast options as well as Cajun.
Jason Brandt
Wow, what a hidden gem for breakfast, pancakes are big and delicious. Staff is friendly. Come hungry and leave full.
Michael Lucado
The service was great. The food, well, not so much. The fried alligator was good, as was the chicken in the chicken parmesan. The sauce was nearly flavorless and the salads were definitely lacking. The bartender wadd friendly, as was the rest of the staff. I wouldn't pay the price of parking to eat there again.
Catherine Kirkweg
Wonderful atmosphere, very pleasant staff (even in the bustle of Mardi Gras 2018). Shrimp Po'boy did not disappoint.
Julia Alexander
The breakfast is delicious - you cannot go wrong with the atchafalaya omelet, choose the cheese grits as a side - or the club sandwich. Bottomless mimosas mixed up just right will send you on your nola ventures, well-fed, mellow, and happy.
Tay Danni
The service here was great - our waitress was so nice and sweet! Also the beignet sticks were amazing!! So fresh and delicious! They were better than some of the “highly rated” cafes around the city. I will return and recommend!
Shannon McQuarter
Miss Patti was absolutely amazing! She was just a sweet heart! Food was priced decently and suited the taste buds. Typical American breakfast with that southern butter. Absolutely everyone was friendly and welcoming!
Populist Hawk
Absolutely loved this place. The red beans and rice was delicious and the french onion soup was the best I've ever had. Staff was friendly and helpful and service was fast, even considering that I was in a group of 10. Prices and portions were much better than other restaurants I visited while in the area as well. Will definitely be back on my next trip to NOLA.
Alison Wright
Amazing food, great atmosphere, reasonable prices. Don't forget the dessert!
jay Jay
First time there..hostesses are kind of clueless up front. We got older waitress blond hair and glasses she was not great and took forever to take our order. We order gator bites they are way over priced and very small not worth the 12 dollars for sure. I ordered the muffuletta sandwich and it was very good i liked it. My friend ordered the jambalaya it was very disappointing and mushy and of course over priced for what he got. We only got one set of silver wear and had to keep asking the waitress for another several times and no luck. My friend ended up getting up and finding one at a nother table. We decided to split the bill right in half and told her to split it..turned out next day we see the bill and she charged the whole amount to my friend than recharged it again on both cards with out tellin us..we would be back but hopefully better service next time.
Michael Smoak
This place is great. I don't feel too comforted inside here because everything is open to outside but the service is great. Our waiter was so friendly and funny, it was a great experience. I think they have some of the best French onion soup here. I had some of the roast beef sandwich with swiss cheese and it was to die for. The chicken strips were kind of average though. If you are visiting in New Orleans, this place is a must eat.
Marc Abplanalp
Neat space. We ducked in for a quick bite before a tour. Service was fast and relatively attentive. Nothing special about the food, but it's perfectly serviceable. Like most everyplace in the French Quarter, prices are on the high side given what you get, but if you have to eat down there you could certainly do worse. I had stuffed fish, which was okay. Wife's roast beef dip sandwich looked a bit better. If I were to go back I'd probably try a po boy.

Food was good and waitress was so nice!
Katelyn Markey
Such a friendly inviting staff. The hostess was very kind, even thanked us on our way out! The bartender was friendly and fantastic we've stopped in before and she remembered us. The manager Dan was super friendly, they both had us cracking up at the bar. Dan was very attentive when the bartender went to the restroom a server ticket popped up and he made the drink no hesitation so the server wouldn't be waiting, even recognized the table of men we watching Monday night football and turned the tv to face them a tad more. We love coming here! Exceptional staff, fantastic food and dollar daiquiris! Thanks for the hospitality as always. Yall are the best!

Fun cocktails, good breakfasts, nice spot near the action. No wait at 8am Friday.
josh helms
Had a glass of wine and a French onion soup.
The soups was ok, the broth tasted like beef gravy, and the cheese was soft with no roasted coloration.
Very friendly service.
Decent selection of drinks.
Kimberly Kringel
We visited on a Friday night. The hostess did not tell us what time the restaurant closed. The server asked us for our drink orders and said the sooner we order, the sooner our food will come out. I thought that was an odd comment so I asked what time they closed-7pm- I guess because of Covid. I don’t like to be that person that comes in 8-10 minutes before closing, but the server reassured us it was okay. We ordered quickly. I ordered crawfish etouffee and my parents ordered the fried seafood platter. Theirs was really good, but mine was warm. I felt like I couldn’t say anything since it was closing time. My entree was supposed to come with a salad, but the server said that they couldn’t make the side salad because all that was already put away for the night. I asked if the price of my entree would be reduced in that case. The server said no that it comes with the entree. Yet it didn’t..Disappointing that there was nothing offered in its place or a price reduction. Sad to see these restaurants closing early and not providing better service in such a great city during this time.

Oh my goodness! I already just love New Orleans but this place has been one of the best places to eat down there that's not talked about enough! Their chili was phenomenal, and a lot of my friends got their red beans which they also said was good. The sandwiches looked huge and I kind of wish I got one!! Just a tad on the "pricey" side (You're in NOLA so don't expect much less with many places), but worth it. Service was great. Only thing is I found that I should've mixed their sweet tea with some unsweetened tea because it was super sweet.
John Evans
Wait time was fair considering customer volume but I would have happily waited an additional 20 minutes for my bayou eggs Benedict, best ever hands down, kitchen staff couldn't have done a more perfect job, atmosphere is nice as well! I used to be a chef and I am super critical when it comes to food and these guys blew it outta the water! Very impressed!
Michele Morris
Wait wasn’t too long & staff communicated what to expect. The doors/windows were open to keep air circulating. FOOD WAS AMAZING! Also well priced for the quarter. We will be back!
Brenda Crocco
Had a ball here New Years Eve, 2018 drinking the $1.00 Daiquiri. Located on a quieter street by the Mississippi River. The service and staff were both friendly and efficient, would recommend! I had the Jambalaya and my husband had the Gumbo, both were very tasty and good.
Rob Hamm
Jambalaya was fantastic. Thought there would be more food for $14 bucks but it actually filled me up and was the right spice and good amount of seafood in it! The only reason it's not a 5 star was the waitress was rude. Being from Texas, I thought people would be nicer here. I get that we're tourist but wow. And the other thing was my wife's salad had a few pieces of lettuce that were old and brown. But that's my only complaint.
Sally Forth
This is my go-to when in NOLA! I love love love their fried catfish with white beans - 10/10 recommend. Have never had bad service here and the food is always excellent! Great for couples, families or groups, and borders Jackson Square.
Just Me
I wanted a good fish sandwich, and that is exactly what I got. (Great tartar sauce.) There was a little mix up on my sandwich. The cook made a me a shrimp Po Boy instead of catfish, but it was quickly corrected. I have never seen a more friendly and conscientious waitstaff in my life. Even the manager came over to apologize. I want to add that we were initially drawn to the restaurant because the man at the door enthusiastically waved at us when we were passing by on the Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus. He seemed like a really nice guy.

I had such a lovely time when I visited in January 2017. I was visiting friends and had time to sit. The bartender was beyond helpful and friendly. It was mid afternoon, and a bit quiet this day. The red beans and rice were perfect and authentic.
The bar is exceptionally gorgeous. Beautiful wood and brass details; you can really feel the history in this building! Sorry no pics, but go see it yourself!
Mahyar Sadri
Food came out reasonably fast and was decent. The French onion soup was very good. A good quick bite spot if you walking around French Quarter and need a pit stop. Nothing overly exceptional though.
Chad Mills
My wife and I were visiting New Orleans for a week from Iowa. We had so much fun we decided to review everywhere we went. Good and bad. This is one of the good ones. We only stopped at a place twice while on our week long trip. This was one of those stops. Breakfast here is a must!!!! So good and the staff is awesome!
R T
Great service from Chrishonda, she was super nice and makes great mojitos!
Reanna Bell
So glad we stopped here!! I had their well-known sea-food plate and my friend LOVED their burger!! Our waiter, Sara, brought out several sauces for us to try with the different seafood, and was so nice about explaining everything to really help us find what we wanted! Definitely a great spot to stop in NOLA!!
Brian Cofone
Made it a point to go deep this time into exploring breakfast places. Atmosphere is above 50th percentile, but the menu options and flavor are top 3 in the quarter. Fantastic amazing omlettes and really good friendly service. Lunch however is good but not really anything special we'll put this on a very short list for breakfasts but probably pass on the lunch next time. No offense, tasted good and service was fine but I didn't come all the way down here for a club sandwich. Based on the breakfast was expecting a really good oyster poboy or something but not even on the menu....
Elena Dumnaya
The best onion soup 😋
Julie Germann
Had the shrimp sandwich, good taste. Server was a home state guy, so that was fun. Sticky tables, otherwise a decent, inexpensive meal. Slow bartender, but drinks were good. Great place to get out of the rain!!
Patricia Bradby
Surpassed my low expectations for a restaurant in a touristy part of town. Ended up here after many places in the French Quarter stated a long wait time. Our group of 6 was seated right away. I enjoyed the sampler...Jambalaya was the best of the 3 dishes. If you have to grab a bite in this area, this is a good option given the food, service and price.
Jim H.
Very friendly staff, nice open layout, good selection. But the dish I had - pasta jambalaya - was not as good as I was expecting. The sauce tasted like a jarred marinara without any spice or kick to it, and the penne was prepared and mixed the way I do when whipping together something fast. It wasn't bad, it just didn't taste any better than a typical home made dish. The garlic bread was also a bit over buttered and stale. It's not a bad place to eat, just not something I would seek out. On par with an Applebees, for better or worse.
Midnight Phoenix
This place was amazing last time I went the waitress treated us like family, made sure everything was good, if anything was wrong but there wasn't. I had the alligator po-boy it was spectacular and for dessert I had some of the most amazing beignet fries.
Karla Mock
Excellent experience! Great food! Highly recommend the Andouille & chicken gumbo & the fried oysters!!!
Brandy Lee
Awesome food and service for us before we got on our cruise ship
Denise Brown
Food was delicious! A real Cajun New Orleans treat.
Anrea Williams
Good hamburgers but seafood is better. On a sunny day they will open the doors so you can enjoy your food and take in the New Orleans feel. They are known for strawberry daiquiri. Don't let the smooth taste fool you. The buzz will creep up on you. Reasonable prices.
Jaime B
After our disaster at Cafe du Monde, a few hours later we ended up here for a late dinner. The 3 star rating is just for our amazing waitress and the taste of the food. However this place is extremely over priced for the quantity of food served, the gumbo was amazing but their large serving at its best is a teenager serving size of food. I will say this, some friends got the overpriced shrimp plate and I will say that was the best fried shrimp I have ever had, but not worth the $17 price tag. The price of this place will keep me from coming back, but I cannot not complain about the service or the food.
Bette Damron
Cold beer, friendly staff and good food. I had a simple
Grilled cheese. It was delicious. My husband asked for and was served a side of red beans and rice. Stop by as they are right in the midst of the French Quarterb
despies3
Went here on our last night in New Orleans, took our 5 kids and we loved the food, the atmosphere and Ecspecially the people that work here. Our waitress was amazing, the host was very inviting and made a flower for our daughter and they had vegetarian options. Would def recommend this place if for nothing else the staff
Mark Hale
Good food, good service and nice atmosphere! Too bad the new owner changed the menu. Used to love the fried oysters, but at least they didn't get rid of the French Onion Soup.
Nathan
It's just OK. I had a $14 pastrami and swiss cheese po-boy. The sandwich was just meat and cheese (I asked for fully dressed). The meat and cheese didn't even go to the end of the bread. It came with steak fries. They were good but nothing special. The service was quick. I was just underwhelmed by the experience. Everything was just average.
Diana Reyes
Service was fast and prompt, food was delicious prices were very reasonable. Kid plates for $5 and entree price average for adults is about $11-$15 a plate. Plates are big enough to share. Only 4 stars because the restrooms were not well maintained.
Nazary Nebeluk
My parents stopped in here during their last visit and I joined them for a quick lunch. The best review I can give them is that they could serve much worse food to tourists. The service seemed a little harried despite the restaurant being half empty but we got an order of calamari, a seafood platter and some white beans with fried fish. All the seafood was fried to perfection - I don't know if they have a great link cook or just such high turnover it has to be fresh - but it was really good. I could see myself coming in for calamari before drinking in the quarter. Although this is also the only place I've been given a cup of horseradish and been told to make my own cocktail sauce by adding ketchup.
This is a perfectly fine place to grab a bite when you're visiting the French Quarter and want a large portion for a good price.
Vincy Vincent
The gumbo and chicken pasta were really good!
Fred Kurzweil
its rare that I give a place 5 stars but this one deserves every bit of it. The food is outstanding. Service was great. The price was reasonable. Especially for the location. The gumbo was to die for. I will definitely be back to this place in the future. Convenient location right near trolley stop.
Troy Abbott
great food. got to try beignet fries
Kimberly Roberts
Food is great! We ordered the combo platter with gumbo, red beans and rice and jambalaya. This also came with a salad. Service was fast even during Mardi Gras. Servings are the size of a scoop of ice cream, so if you're really hungry maybe order something else with it (we also had french onion soup and it was great, too).
Tyler Avery
We had the beignet sticks and the muffuletta. Both were excellent. The beignet sticks were shaped like fries so easier to handle than Traditional beignets. The olive salad on the muffuletta was amazing and she enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. Patty and Angie were fantastic to us. They took such good care of us, like family. Definitely will be back again!
Jeremy Butler
A New Orleans favorite of mine. Love their pastrami! Had the chili the last time I visited and found it flavorful. The decor is great, too--a very old building with exposed brick on the inside.
Aaron Krytus
I ordered a burger that was less than exciting. It was over cooked and disappointing. The atmosphere was great and I had friends that enjoyed their muffaletta. Infact they were very happy with it.
Service was good but prices seemed a little high.
Michael Jones
We had the Roast Beef Poor boy & it was delicious!! FF not hot. Margarita was perfect & Judy our server was super friendly with us and her other guests!! She was awesome!!!!!
num1lsufan
Great spot to grab Lunch in the French Quarter... Large portion for a great price. The roast beef Poboy is great here and huge. The seafood platter is cheap and pretty big, they give you a lot of seafood. Portions here are very adequate. This place has become my French Quarter Favorite.
Christian Caruthers
Great service, great location in the French Quarter near the river. I had the Pastrami and Swiss on the. I know, southerners aren’t going to do this as good as NYC, but it was pretty solid. Only thing is make sure to ask for extra Swiss, and spicy mustard if they have it. One of the servers suggested remoulade instead of mustard. I didn’t try it, but it sounded interesting. Next time!
Steve Tabor
One of the best places in the French quarter. Very friendly staff eager to make you feel comfortable and to answer any questions. Red beans and rice was amazing. Fish was fabulous can't say enough good things about the restaurant
Aryan Manohar
Great to-go speed and service. Tastiest vegetarian muffaletta I've tasted, and the fries are tasty. Grilled cheese is like a pillow of clouds draped in silken butter and three luscious cheeses. Horrible bathroom quality, however.
Cynthia C
This place had the perfect flair for that New Orleans creole cuisine at a reasonable price! Breakfast is served all day, which makes it a great place for brunch in the middle of the day. Try the eggs Benedict etouffee (which goes by another name on the menu)....superb!
Brian Dubya
If you're looking for good food at a reasonable price in the quarter, this place can't be beat. Last time I was there they still had $1 strawberry daiquiris as well as 2 for 1 beer specials. The muffuletta is beyond decent and the French onion soup is worth a try. Seafood is fresh and well prepared.
Robert Ellstrom
Called around for hours to try to find gluten free red beans and rice. A knowledgeable staff member answered the phone and told me that the red beans and rice as well as the jambalaya are gluten free. Had the red beans and rice for two meals. Got it with extra sausage the second time. Great local dining at an affordable price in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere by the river in the French Quarter.
Kyle Wilhite
Decent on the strip restaurant with moderately priced food. There are much better places to go close by, but they do have $1 daiquiris. Although I'm not convinced there is much alcohol in them. I had 3 by myself and didn't really feel a buzz.
Jose Mancia
Let's say you took the menus from Captain D's with Popeye's Chicken, dimmed the diner and added alcohol they would come together as Cafe Maspero. Nothing special about the food we had (red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya) but everything was reasonably priced. Even the alcohol was at a good rate.
Michelle Rudy
Found restaurant last minute online for late lunch and I couldnt have been more pleased. Fun atmosphere, great staff...shout out to Jennifer...and food was delightful. Had chicken sandwich, tried recommended red beans and rice for the first time...delicious...and beignet fries. All were fantastic. Try the peach sangria too...very refreshing. Definitely recommend and will go back.
Jenna Jackson
The burger here was so delicious, we came back twice on our two-day trip! The ambiance is great, and the staff are very friendly. We also tried the French onion soup, which was superb. Try it!
Martin Denesse, Sr.
Great food from one of the Iconic French Qtr. Restaurants! You will.l9ve the open air feel and sounds a a you dine on some of the beat food anywhere! I love this place!
Jackie Manning
We happened upon Cafe Maspero about sixteen years ago. We were so glad that we found it. We have been back many times since then. The food is delicious, and portions are generous for the cost. The red beans and rice with sausage are the best that I’ve ever eaten, and the poboys are stuffed with meat. We will return as soon as possible!
Kelly Mahan
We hadn't been to Cafe Maspero since the change in ownership, so we didn't know what to expect. I'm happy to say that not much has changed. The staff is still as friendly and attentive as can be, and the roast beef sandwich is still one of the best ones I've had in the Quarter!
Brett Denehan
This is a cute spot to stop and get food or coffee. The staff was attentive and helpful in recommending specials. We went around Valentine's Day and their drink choices reflected the holiday. The prices were great for what you got.
Bryan Flynn
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fast and friendly. The GM Lisa even stopped by to make sure everything was fine and talk with us. We will definitely be back. One of our best meals this trip.
Erika Reese
Excellent food. However, we didn't recieve our appetizer until we were done with our main course. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Order the muffaletta or the roast beef po boy. Both great. The chicken parmesean appetizer with garlic bread was tasty!
Big Frank
Been going here for over 20 years. I have had red beans and rice al over no where makes it better. I look forward to getting it every time I come here . It is by far the best. Also something new the Beignet fries are a must try. My wife loves there Jambalaya.
Heidi Cautrell
I met friends from out of state here. I had the fried calamari appetizer. It was huge and delicious. It came with steak fries and a slice of French bread. The server was attentive and helpful.
The twin Turbskis
Tristian C was our waiter, very nice and accommodating. Food was delightful. Tristan was a pleasure thank you again
Shaun
Great service the Gumbo was out of this world. The shrimp po boy was just basic.
Gina
Casual atmosphere. Our server was great and helpful about what to order. Red beans and rice. Chili cheese hamburger. Fried fish with etouffee. Everything was delicious and plentiful. $5.25 beers were small.
Marg Ann Roorda
We sat down and in short order we had someone (one of the chefs) come to our table and offer suggestions on what drinks to get... The muffalatta and cornbeef sandwiches were excellent. Service was quick and friendly... A great place to check out when in New Orleans French Quarter.
Jason Schiewe
Love the feel of the place. The staff were kind and forgiving. My family (of 6) were seated imediatly and they weren't to judging when my 3 year old brother was throwing a fit (customer service 5/5.) The food was good but not spectacular (the beignet fries are a must, though.) (Food 3.5/5). The pricing was very reasonable ($5 for a plate of the previously mentioned beignet fries). Pricing 4/5.
Chris Bramon
Food was good, got lucky on the wait, hit it right before the dinner rush during Mardi Gras. Had the house special fish, good taste, but could have used a bit more spice overall.
Mrs G Warren
Golden fries, hot fish, nice portions for the cost.
Gina Skolmowski
Calamari appetizer was good, served w fries, easily a full meal. Staff were friendly and pleasant. Wooden bar was damp and sticky... Guess that happens on a rainy day.
Tony Clare
Great breakfast with Andouille Bites starter. The jambalaya side with the biscuits and gravy were awesome and fuel for lots of walking around town. Service was great; attentive without intrusion.
Denis Ostir
One of my favorite French Quarter Restaurants. Their Jambalaya is epic, their oyster platter is great too. It is also very reasonably priced. A party of four with four main courses will not pay more than $80 with tax and tips.
Eric Ferguson
Nice staff. Relaxing place to eat.
Sara Richmond
FANTASTIC service. Extremely accommodating to our group, including the large double stroller we had. Staff had on all smiles every time anyone came to check on us. Food was delicious as well. Nice to see it's the same quality as any other day. Also offered to split checks, which was a surprise since it was the middle of Mardi Gras. Everyone left happy and full.
Greg Scott
Very good food and loved red beans and rice. catfish platter was good as well and all was priced right with nice atmosphere would recommend and would definitely eat there again when in New Orleans located downtown located and close to lots of places to see and visit
Brent Stevenson
Never a bad meal here, the seafood platter was fantastic!!
Melissa madere
The food is terrific ! $18 for the seafood plate. It comes with a salad, fries, and toast and has oysters, shrimp, fish, and calamari on it . Can't beat the price. It was a large amount of food, probably could have split it. As it is I certainly didn't finish it,
It is only a block from Jackson square. The side and front of the restaurant are both open air. Which I like , but on hot days it gets a bit warm and keep in mind that the mules walk right past. They sometimes leave presents..
Ashley was our server and was wonderful!
Alonzo Hernandez
Great food, great service. The waiters are friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is in a nice, old-school brick building that adds character and charm. Overall, worth checking out (ps: the food is well seasoned!)
Jeffrey Malone
Pretty standard fare for the tourist area of New Orleans. They have pretty much what a lot of other restaurants around that area serve. Po-boys, fried seafood, muffalettas, gumbo, etouffee, etc. The food was pretty good. I had the shrimp poboy, my wife had the muffaletta. They both come with fries. We both enjoyed them. It was a fairly cool evening when we went, not too hot. But they did have all the doors going outside open. Not sure if they leave these open all the time, but I could see it being pretty hot in there during the middle of the summer. Would definitely recommend going here if you're looking for a good taste of New Orleans.
Gina Hope
Best French Onion soup. EVER. Went twice
Dave Lodowski
Initial service was slow but once they got to us was reasonably prompt. Food was good excellent, we were there for breakfast and the cajun eggs Benedict was really tasty. The cajun bloody mary was nicely spicy and fresh tasting.
