Take it from a true Cajun… this place is the real deal. I grew up in South Louisiana and have been living in Nashville for 2 years now. I’ve heard about this place and finally decided to visit for lunch on a Sunday. Madelyn was our server and she was amazing. For an appetizer I had the Cajun seasoned waffle fries. They were perfect. I also ordered the Tobasco Margarita and if you like a spicy margarita this is your jam! Just talking about it makes me want another. Everything on the menu sounded amazing so I did what any logical person would do… Give me one of everything. I ordered the flight of gumbo. The chicken and sausage was probably the best I ever had. I ordered a basket of shrimp. They were cooked to perfection. And then I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to try the Shrimp Po-Boy. Everything I tasted exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to visit this place again!

This is our second time visiting in 3 days because the food is that good! Definitely get the chicken and sausage gumbo. Service has been phenomenal. Each time our servers have made great suggestions for food and drink. Today Marc took excellent care of us and stopped by frequently to see if we needed anything else. I thought this was my last trip to Nashville but I may have to come back just to eat here.

The atmosphere and service were exceptional. We all ordered the seafood gumbo and I got the vegan gumbo as well. We were disappointed with the seafood gumbo. We each had three shrimp but could not identify any crab. The vegan gumbo had a wonderful flavor and I liked that better. We tried the alligator bites which were tasty. The Mississippi comeback sauce is wonderful. We also had the beignets which were ok. If I were going to come back, I would try the catfish and have a cup of the vegan gumbo and skip dessert.

This was our first visit and definitely won’t be the last. The food was excellent and our server was excellent. The food came out hot and fresh, and super fast. The appetizer with fried green tomatoes, pickles, and okra is a must.

Such a wonderful experience! Sam was very pleasant and had great customer service skills. We enjoyed our conversation with her and she was so accommodating! The atmosphere and drinks were wonderful! We were visiting at the time and we can’t wait to come back. Gumbo bros will be a first stop!

This is the second location of Gumbo Bros, the first being in Brooklyn, NY. The interior reminds me of a local joint with both bar and booth seating. I really liked the murals that lined the wall opposite the bar. The menu is filled with creole and Cajun dishes including three types of gumbo, and a variety of po' boys with bread from Leidenheimer Bakery in New Orleans. A word of caution: If you go there on a Sunday make sure you get there before the crawfish starts coming out of the kitchen. We got there and unfortunately the food took a little while to come out. Regardless, the food was delicious! We got a shrimp po' boy, a order of gumbo, and finished with some pillowy soft beignets. If we ever make it back to Nashville or head to Brooklyn we're definitely going to stop in at The Gumbo Bros for a delicious taste of New Orleans.

A bit pricey but service, food and drinks were awesome! I recommend everyone try it out! Great location near other food and shops in the Nashville Gulch area (2 doors down from Sambuca). Our waitress was outstanding! We will surely be going back!

Founded in 2014 by LSU alums Chef/Co-founder/Mobile, Alabama native Adam Lathan and Co-founder Clay Boulware, The Gumbo Bros started as a small pop-up in NY and has grown to a full service bar & restaurant with the Nashville Gulch restaurant as its second location. The Owners are stated to emphasize cajun/creole cooking methods, family recipes and regional sourcing (regular shipments of gulf shrimp, New Orleans French bread, etc.) The intetrior is pretty cool and with bar and booth seating providing a blend between a bistro and neighborhood bar. The menu features a variety of well-known cajun and creole dishes such as gumbo, po' boys, shrimp and grits, fried shrimp and fried catfish. And, not so popular dishes such as alligator (which, if done well I really like) and fried okra. Red beans & rice, jambalaya and etouffee are absent from the menu. The po’ boys come dressed with lettuce, tomato, Duke’s mayo, and pickles on New Orleans’ own Leidenheimer Bakery French bread. I stopped in for an end-of the week lunch. I ordered the catfish po' boy. At $15, IDK I think its a bit pricey for catfish. The catfish itself was well-seasoned and super crispy from the cornmeal batter. I ordered it to-go so the bread was a bit sogged out by the time I got home so the bread did not have the crispness you normally expect in a po' boy. Next trip, I'll get the pickles and tomatoes on the side or just order the basket. I also got an order of 3 beignets ($8) which were humongous and airy, but had the mouthfeel more of a donut. In comparison, just a bit different than the pillowy, melt in your mouth beignets you get from Cafe Du Monde, but still very good. FYI you'll need a big glass of milk or coffee to offset all the sweetness. I used to visit New Orleans several times a year and I really enjoy cajun and creole food so The Gumbo Bros was okay to me. Really pleasant hostess, bartender and wait staff. Need to try: Beignets Want to try: Chix & Sausage & Seafood Gumbo, Alligator Basket, Fried Green Tomatoes, Bananas Foster Pudding

We love this place! We go quite a few Sundays a year for the crawfish. It’s 3 pounds with potatoes, sausage, and corn for $35! Service is always positive and we love the atmosphere.

Surprisingly pleasant. And that’s no offense to the establishment, but I’m both and raised in south Louisiana, so getting anything “cajun” is usually a big let down. BUT, I got a cup of chicken & sausage gumbo and a shrimp poboy here and they were wonderful reminders of the food I grew up on. Really good job to these people! Service was fair, little slow on some things around lunch but there was only one active waitress. I’d recommend

Gumbo Bros is one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. Fantastic food, killer drinks, and a fun atmosphere on game day or any day! My favorites are their Shrimp Poboy (which tastes better than many places in NOLA), the fried green tomatoes, and banana pudding. I also recently tried their brunch and loved it! Gotta check this spot out for a good time!

I made a special, just to eat here trip from Huntsville,AL area. I didn't know this place even existed until I saw a Harry Connick Jr YouTube video.. I got a Shrimp Po Boy, Nanny's Seafood Gumbo, and a Sweet Tea. Wow. Just wow. I felt like I was in New Orleans. The Gumbo was awesome and the Shrimp on the Po Boy were so big. The staff was friendly. The place was so clean. There is parking close by that is free for the first hour. I will be back and now wish they would open up in the Huntsville/Madison area.

I'm picky about my Cajun and this spot is the real deal. A little disappointed Po boy is $15 and does not come with fries or chips. But the Po boy is good. And gumbo is excellent. Banana pudding was ok to me. Also like that you have the choice of 3 different sauces for the poboys. Service was fast, friendly, and helpful. The ambiance is nice to. I'd avoid the very back space due to reverberation. As an audio engineer the sound bouncing off the walls back there would drive me crazy. Good Cajun spots don't seem to last in Nashville, so I hope this one hangs on.

On my most recent trip to Nashville, I was super eager to eat at Gumbo Bros! I had heard great things about their gumbo and menu and I gotta say, they live up to their stellar reputation. Today, I happened to be in the Gulch and chose Gumbo Bros for lunch. I ordered the Peacemaker Po-boy (friend shrimp & oysters) with a side of remoulade! It came with Crystal hot sauce but I am more of a Louisiana hot sauce person. Anyways, being a Louisiana who calls Tennessee home now I always try places to have dishes I grew up eating to see IF it can live of to flavor like I know should be present in every bite of food. The Po-was tasty and o also ordered the Flight of Gumbo because I wanted to try them all. They were also tasty but I will have to visit again and dine-in to taste food while hot along with some Louisiana beers. But overall my experience at Gumbo Bros did manage to intrigue me so I will be going back to try the food and hopefully I can upgrade them to 5stars..........

Great location and cool atmosphere. Honestly thought the gumbo was lacking flavor, true gumbo has a depth to it from the roux and I just wasn't getting that here. However, the shrimp po' boy was really good, lots of shrimp and good flavor. Both were sightly expensive, but I guess that's what you get in the gulch. I probably would have given this place 3 stars if it wasn't for the staff, they were all great and that pushed it to a 4.

If you are traveling to Nashville you have to make a stop by Gumbo bros. On a rainy Saturday with a very large group who are starving we were greeted with a no wait line for the best food this side of Heaven. The gumbo was so extremely good. The catfish will make you want to pack up and move to Louisiana. The only thing that surpasses the taste of the food is the customer service. TOP NOTCH FOOD AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Gumbo Bros was a great find in walking distance from the W Hotel. The fried pickles and okra were good. The seafood gumbo was tasty, but had way too much rice. The shrimp po-boy was excellent. The food is mediocre. Happy hour is very limited. They have 5 dollar beer, 6 dollar wine, and 7 dollar well. No cocktails are on happy hour. The food is fried pickles for $3 and two other items I can't remember. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo also that to me was just okay. Bread is an extra dollar. The bengiets are forgettable. All in all don't waste your time here for happy hour. Walk to STK and have a real haply hour.

The alligator nuggets were my favorite of the meal. The spice on there was really good and a had a great crunch. The chicken and sausage gumbo was a lot better than the seafood gumbo and would pro get that again. The hurricane was the best of the drinks and was pretty strong. The purple drink was decent, and the marg was pretty basic.

Came in here on my lunch break to get Cajun seafood and a normal on the rocks margarita! Left knowing how amazing their gumbo is, and a hot sauce chicken poboy is to die for. Not a bad place.. 1st thing 1st...I didn't like that you order your food at the front counter THEN go find a seat. I feel like you should be seated and have a menu at your table to order with a server. I ordered the catfish basket, a small chicken and sausage gumbo, and a purple drink.All the reviews were saying "I'm from Louisiana" it tastes just like home🥱. I am from Slidell,LA (GOOGLE IT) when I picked up my fish to bite it all the breading crumbled off😒 I think it may have been fried too hard or too long because the other pics I've seen showed perfecty fried fish 🤦🏾‍♀️ I just didn't get that yesterday lol but all in all the staff were friendly. Environment is cool. Indoor/outdoor seating,gumbo was delicious🤤, I don't even eat coleslaw but I tried it here and it was fiya!! Like pickled coleslaw or something 😋The purple drink did what it needed to do 😎, but my fish and waffle fries...nah..

Wonderful wait staff- most helpful. My wife's po-boy was outstanding, and the fried green tomatoes were very tasty.The gumbo was okay, but for me, not grand. The roux was very dark, and it seemed there were occasional bites that tasted burnt. The beignets were pretty good, but I am comparing them to Cafe Du Monde, which is my gold standard.

Amazing staff, the waitress we had was the best. Food is hot, when the menu says “HOT” they mean it. The portions are big. But may I suggest maybe renaming to “Gumbros” because gumbo bros is a little too much to say and doesn’t roll off lol

While this place is not considered fine dining, the cajun chicken and sausage gumbo is pretty darned good. The service is super fast, and you feel like your in "Nawlins..." The shrimp po boy is good, with great flavor and plenty of shrimp (nothing skimpy here...). My wife and also had the fried pickles (which I could not stop eating). The Gumbo Bros is a great spot in Nashville.

Wonderful this was my 2nd visit to gumbo bros. I am vegetarian and my husband eats lol and we have such a good meal everytime. I always get the fried green tomato po boy and a cup of zherbs gumbo. My husband got the chicken n sausage & seafood gumbo with an a fried shrimp basket. Everything is cooked to order. They are definitely authentic reminds me of the food from good Ole Nola. I went to this establishment around 8:30pm on a Friday night. I had to find parking and ended up parking in a $4 lot nearby. I was able to get seated immediately. My food came out quickly. I ordered the alligator & fried green tomatoes basket that came w/waffle fries. Both were fried crispy and had a good taste. I tried the seafood gumbo and the chicken & sausage gumbo. They both had a dark roux and had a good taste as well. They had plenty of meat & rice. There could have been a little more seasoning but overall this is a decent place and I would return.

I had the Benny's Special Po'Boy. It was tasty. The second half of it tasted great the next day right out of the fridge too. Parking is pretty much pay lot only in this part of the gulch. It was cool and low key on a Wednesday night. Staff were great. Prices were comparable for the area. Would go back.

How was The Gumbo Bros you ask? Let me tell you....this is the best gumbo and po boy I've had in Nashville. Wow!! The rue is thick with just the right amount of spice. The shrimp poy boy had perfectly fried shrimp and nice crispy French bread. The service was just as good as the food. The manager and server were amazing. This is a phenomenal addition to The Gulch!

Gulf shrimp were probably the best I've ever had. Very high quality! Gumbo was flavorful and delicious with the perfect balance of rice to gumbo ratio. Catfish was okay more crust then I prefer but the flavor was good. Nice music and friendly staff. Definitely recommend this place

Service is great here. They took the time to look into the ingredient list of the gulf shrimp and were able to accommodate me. Super friendly staff and great atmosphere overall. The gulf shrimp, vinegar slaw, and sauce was pretty tasty and filling.

An hour well spent eating food that brought a lot of comfort! We enjoyed the chicken and sauage gumbo and the shrimp po boy—the beignets were a nice desert as well. A taste we haven’t found elsewhere in Nashville to date. We’ll be back!

Excellent bread, good shrimp, but something is “off” on the gumbo taste. It has good color and decent amount of meat but I think the faux paper bowls are affecting the taste. The outside of the bowl felt softer and and a bit moist with the hot gumbo inside. Other than that, it was all good. The dessert was not as much bananas foster as it was just take out pudding. Kind of disappointed in that as I was looking forward to it. As a native, I appreciate getting more Louisiana restaurants that know what they’re doing. This one is a bit pricey for my drive, and doesn’t quite have the variety, so I will continue to frequent The Lost Cajun more often which is excellent in every way.

Had the shrimp po-boy and seafood gumbo. Food was good. Service good. Pricing is about 20% high but this place is in the Gulch. Premium pricing should be expected. If they were located in a less touristy area it would a favorite.

My wife and I went on "date night". Food was authentic Cajun and outstanding. Had a tremendous catfish po boy, made on some amazing bread. Also had the seafood gumbo which had several large shrimp in it. My wife had a salad that she loves (I can't think of the name of it). The whole meal was truly outstanding. And the people working there are great. They made sure my wife and I had a wonderful experience. We've eaten here about six times and plan to go again many more times in the future. HEADS UP: you get the first hour for free in the parking lot behind the building.

Gumbo Bros not only has delicious cajun cuisine, but top notch service. Johnny, one of the managers, is incredibly competent and dedicated to his job. I went here because I wanted a oyster po boy but was told oysters are out of season so I settled on the shrimp po boy instead. I was pleasantly surprised. The shrimp were fried perfectly and had great flavor. I also ordered a kids grilled cheese for my daughter, which came with fries. The grilled cheese was subpar. It was cheddar cheese in between hard-flat pieces of bread, but waffles fries were pretty good. I also ordered the beignets. They were terrible. They were literally just pieces of terrible-terribly hard-baked bread with a pile of powered sugar blanketing them. This place is pretty overpriced. I would return only for the po boy…that’s it, that’s all.

The food was decent, but I wasn't completely wowed. There really aren't any restaurants in Nashville that serve Cajun food, so that may help them stand out from the pack. The fried shrimp po boy was fine, but the shrimp could have used a little more seasoning. The Cajun chicken and sausage gumbo was pretty solid. I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes that came with a delicious remoulade. I can't say I will be rushing back... but I am glad I tried it.

Love this place! All three Gumbos are excellent and one is vegan! The fried oyster and fried catfish Po'Boys are fantastic. And do try the fried green tomatoes. The staff is generally very attentive.

Great seafood gumbo. The alligator bites were spot on. The batter for the catfish was very good, but a bit to much and overwhelmed the fish. Staff was super nice. The gumbo is worth the trip.

Tried out this new place recently after they opened. Shrimp po-boy was great and loved the chicken sausage gumbo. (Not of fan of the seafood option). It was a little pricey at $15 for either gumbo or po-boy, but they have a lunch special where you get half and half and a drink for $15. Best part was the lively restaurant and incredibly friendly and social bartender. Will be back!

We love Cajun and have struggled to find good gumbo and po boys in Nashville. This is the real deal! The chicken and sausage gumbo is to die for and the bread on the po boys is magic. The staff is always amazing to us... especially manager Rusty who took extra good care of us on mine and my husband's anniversary last night. Excellent gator, boudain balls, and fried green tomatoes too. We usually stay away from downtown Nashville, but the free hour parking lot adjacent makes it easy to go. It's counter service which is always quick and friendly with ample seating in really clean and fun "NOLA inspired" decor. Check it out!

I've never had such an excellent poboy outside of Louisiana, delicious! We each got Gumbo Z'herbs and the roast beef sandwiches. Both were delicious. Great french bread for the poboy, and the mayo and au jus made it all blend together great. It's not Parasols. A little smaller and more mayo focused than that New Orleans classic in the Irish Channel. Still, it beats some poboy shops I've tried in the French Quarter, and I'd be interested to try a BBQ roast beef from the Bros. The gumbo was also delicious. Seemed heavy on the black pepper. Made me almost sneeze. But I really enjoyed the overall unami and the heat. Could be spicier than gumbo normally is, but who cares. If you like spicy food, you'll love this soup. It has heat and flavor. So glad we managed to check this place out!

Ordered nannies gumbo (seafood) and shrimp po-boy. The po-boy was delicious. Although it didn't come with any chips, it did come with a small cup of vinegar slaw which is great if you want vinegar as your side. The gumbo was not anything I could call home. The spices killed the seafood flavor of the gumbo and the roux was dark and too thick. The po-boy was $15 and defeats the purpose of what a po-boy is at the price without an edible side. Sorry, I wouldn't eat here again.

If you want authentic cajun this is the place to go. Excellent options and an overall great experience. They do a crawfish broil at 2pm on Sundays and that goes until they sell out. Their bloody mary’s and hurricanes are also top notch.

I had the catfish poboy and the chicken and sausage gumbo, and there were both to die for! The catfish was fresh and succulent, and was perfectly breaded. The gumbo was on another f—ing level!!! Very hearty and rich, with delicious spicy sausage and chicken. Highly recommend that! Definitely will be back here when I’m in The Gulch area! Edit: I completely forgot about the VINEGAR SLAW OMG sooooo good!!! Really gave it that extra kick!
