Our waiter Joseph was amazing and made the experience worth while. We ordered several items to taste one being the lobster nachos which had no lobster on it, smh however they quickly made it right. I also had the alligator which was okay. I loved the lamb meatball and would go back for it again and the pineapple ginger drink I had was amazing. Love the atmosphere and chill vibe.

I have dual feelings about this place, I love the atmosphere, interior and some food. I ordered couple dishes - mussels were amazing but sword fish which was $40 per piece was disgusting, even though it looked good as you can see on a photo. So if you go there don't order sword fish, it seemed like it was cooked unfrozen, tasted like a brick of ice. I was with my son and didn't want to create drama but was surprised the waitress saw that I only had one bite but didn't ask how was it. Desert, salad and meatballs my son had were good.

We didn't eat here & didn't actually get to enjoy the place much as we were here for a wedding, but the place was absolutely beautiful & I will definitely be back. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows. The room was delightfully designed. I was in awe. Very quiet altho we were there on a Sunday night. Front desk staff was so very helpful as we needed them a couple times, call it being a little too old for such modern elegance, but they were very helpful & very nice. I will be going back again when I can stay longer & enjoy the beautiful surroundings & relax & just zone & perhaps try the wonderful restaurant that is attached, the menu sounded oh so good.

The atmosphere and space is absolutely beautiful. There was live music when we went and it was actually pretty calming and not too loud. The drinks were superb, I recommend getting the Livin’ In a Pear 🍐! So so good. The mussels were amazing! (It could feed 3 people I felt lol) and the sirloin steak with the truffle was chefs kiss! It cut like butter and tasted delicious. I’m def going here with my girlfriends next time!

Great server. Great food. Had the salad with ranch and it was very good. The two of us ordered the Elk Manhattan and the Bone in Ribeye. The ribeye was delicious but I’ve had better at the same price tag. The elk was awesome to try and went very well with the blueberry, but it was mediocre warm. Took a bit to chew as well. If I had it again I’d have it cooked a little longer. If you’re charging $60 a plate it better be perfect. The sides were good. The free bread tasted fresh but kind of bland. All in all, worth the try.

Food and service was incredible! The Finca Wolffer Rose wine (light, crisp, and not too sweet) paired really well with the Mussels dish in particular. The only thing I was disappointed by was the Burrata & Meatball – the menu mentioned lamb meatball, but it didn’t really taste like lamb, tasted more like beef. The live music was a perfect touch to the ambiance of the restaurant. I believe live music is only on Thursdays – Saturdays. Good spot for a romantic date night.

Great Place to stop by before the theatre! My family and I stopped by for a quick meal just before we watched a Christmas Carol at the Guthrie. We wanted something close by (this was only 2 blocks away) and to eat something hearty. We walked in and were immediately greeted by helpful and friendly staff! Very modern, rustic and cozy place all at the same time. With less than an hour to spare they served all 5 of us very quickly! Caroline was our hostess and she was excellent! Would highly recommend this place for a cozy spot to eat and drink!!

We almost missed the opportunity to enjoy one of the best meals we have ever had. It is our first trip to the Twin Cities and after a day exploring the Mall of America, we decided on an early dinner downtown. We were greeted by an extremely rude hostess named Narissa who looked my husband and I up and down and said, "Yes?" We said we were wanting to have dinner and she said , "Just you two?" We said yes and she pointed at a high top table and said, "You can sit there." We were cold from walking around a bit downtown, so the only thing that kept us from leaving as a result of her rudeness was not wanting to brave the cold, wet weather again so soon. So that's the bad. Let's talk about the good! Allison (Allie) was our server and she was amazing: gracious, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was spectacular. Paul had the spicy mussels which were the best we've ever had. He also had the meatball appetizer and this might have been the best marinara and the best meatball of our lives. Those who know how much I love to cook Italian food, know that's saying something. I had the filet and it was perfectly prepared. I ate every bite of my root vegetables as well. Fresh made, warm bread. And the drinks!!! Try the Livin' on a Pear and the Cherry on a Sppin. You won't be disappointed if you can get beyond the rude hostess! 10 stars!

This was our first time coming here as we stayed at the hotel for our anniversary. The atmosphere was excellent and the drinks were amazing. The food however was below par. We ordered the sirloin and it came out very chewy. We couldn’t even finish it. The sirloin came with fries and because we were done with the steak the waitress thought we were also done with the fries (which were on a completely separate plate). We would’ve keep eating those had she not taken them. Overall the experience was below our expectations. Sadly, worst anniversary dinner to date.

Date night at Umbra always feels like home. They have a new menu that rolled out and we were able to try three new items. 1. Scallop & Lobster Croquette Sliders 2. Sea Bass - now served with saffron risotto 3. Lobster Risotto For dessert, fried bread pudding which is always my FAV. They also have live music every weekend. It's definitely a cool spot to vibe and chill and were like family! Chef Kevin Aho and Emily Pollock and the entire staff are always ah-mazing ❤️ and treat us like family. We went to this restaurant for my wife's birthday. It has a very nice and warm feeling. The food was great and a friendly service to compliment the experience. A live duo with soft music was a nice touch.

The food here is amazing! Usually if you get the protein right, that is good enough but every little detail is perfect here. The peas, tomatoes and asparagus are the best I have had a restaurant - so flavorful. I usually eat here twice when I am in town because I can't pick just 1 item. The service is always efficient and friendly as well.

Very tasty steaks. I had the striploin with the bone marrow, wife had the sirloin frites. North were cooked perfectly. The mistake we made was ordering pork belly for an appetizer. It was a meal in itself, so we couldn’t finish our steak. Food is priced appropriately for the quality, the drinks are overpriced. If they got the drink pricing more appropriate, I could see more people coming here.

The in house restaurant at the Canopy by Hilton. We had dinner here our first night in town since it was attached to our hotel and we weren’t feeling too adventurous. I’m glad we did! The food and service were great. Live music (Fridays and Saturdays). The steak was delicious and cooked perfectly.

Very cool atmosphere...really liked it. Has a bar, restaurant area and more of a lounge area with couches and a fire. There was also live music on the Saturday we were there. Food was delicious. Good mix of food on the menu with steak, fish and vegetarian. Also had good Flatbread pizzas. Our server was great...very fun vibe. Would definitely go back.

The food here is amazing. Chef Kevin Aho is brilliant when it comes to cooking. I am a very picky eater and he got me to try his champagne sauce for the chicken breast and it was amazing. The food was cooked very well. However my favorite part about everything was the dessert. The chocolate cake with chocolate mousse was incredible and when people ate the cheesecake they said it melted in their mouth. Bravo

This was an amazing laid back night out. The food was fantastic and the service was amazing. Our server, DJ, was attentive and top notch. The drinks were potent and well balanced, and the entertainment that they had was just right for the laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend - we will be back!

We've eaten here three times over the past few days. First, the servers are excellent. We appreciated each of them. The walleye cakes were fantastic, as were the flatbreads and fettuccine. The burger was also good but a little under-seasoned. I wouldn't get it again for $16. The only major disappointment was spending $40 for the Beef Rossini and getting cold sides. I'm uncertain why this happened as everything else arrived hot each time. A final note: the desserts were some of the best we've ever experienced. We got the cheesecake and the fried bread pudding and absolutely demolished them. Thank God the dinner portions weren't too oversized because we needed the room!

I have been staying in the hotel for a week. I walked in on my last night and get to have the pleasure to hear Matt DeRosier play his guitar. I travel all over for work and I already loved the restaurant and hotel, but this was a true treat. Not only was it great to have live music, but Matt specifically made it awesome. The perfect songs, the perfect volume, and the perfect energy put the exclamation point on my first trip to Minneapolis. I wont stay anywhere else every time I come to town and I will make sure I'm here on Thursday nights even if I have to stay an extra day just to see Matt play. Ohh and the restaurant and bar is awesome as well! I can guarantee you won't be disappointed coming to Umbra and the Canopy, just make sure you are here on Thursday nights!

YUM. I love a good sandwich, and wow, Umbra has them. The buffalo chicken sandwich is out of this world. And the fries are totally drool-worthy with that volcanic salt (a total #TreatYoSelf moment). Also this is strange but I LOVE the silverware. Just heavy enough and sturdy but delicate. A good spoon and fork matters!

My husband and I love this place! We stopped in for dinner before heading to a movie and were so pleased with the ambience and pacing, the friendly service, and the delicious food. We shared the lamb lollipops and rabbit gnocchi, and my husband ordered the rack of lamb and I got the quail. We finished with our own desserts and coffee, and our server was generous to comp both our desserts after finding out we both work in the industry. Our server, Kay Kay, said she's normally behind the bar and wasn't used to serving tables, but we thought she did such a fantastic job. So welcoming and attentive, and made our experience so memorable! Thank you! We'll definitely be back :)

I enjoyed my dinner at Umbra. I had the swordfish with a side salad and both were very good. I also enjoyed the apple dessert. The atmosphere and service was also very pleasant. If you are able to drop a pretty penny or expense your meal Umbra is a viable choice.

My hubby and I went to see the Christmas Carol at the Guthrie. It was first performance in 608 days. We decided to grab a bite to eat before the show and stopped at umbra. A very nice environment and classy vibe. My man ordered the quail. Which was not a full quail, but instead 4 quail legs deep fried. It was interesting. The star of the dish was the sweet potatoes. The peach and prosciutto salad was pretty good, lots of prosciutto which was most appreciated. The bathrooms are attached to hotel and very nice.

Love the fireplaces. It feels cozy. I ordered off the bites menu and it was plenty for dinner. The Rabbit gnocchi was heavenly. I also usually don't like raspberry vinaigrette, but the mixed salad with raspberry vinaigrette wasn't too sweet or tart. It was a little creamy. I had the hazelnut tart for dessert and usually don't like to mix orange with my chocolate, but it was light on the orange and worked well. Kind of like a grown up Petit Ecolier.

My boyfriend and I went to Umbra for my birthday celebration and it was FABULOUS! Our server, Marcus, was very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing - we had lobster dip, mussels, scallops, lamb... Everything was impeccable. They even surprised me with a sparkler on the cheesecake dessert for my birthday! Also had breakfast here - the French toast is perfection! Highly recommend if you are staying at the Canopy Hotel or are in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area!

I went here over Valentines Day weekend and it was such a joy! I seriously loved all the mock-tails and cocktail options! They even had Prairie Organic vodka which is my favorite! My guest and I enjoyed one of the piled high flatbreads and the melt in your mouth lobster cake. OMG wayyyy better than crab cake. I seriously can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

It was our third time at UMBRA restaurant and the reason for going there was only because of Out of Box live performances. They are awesome! The atmosphere and service are brilliant at the restaurant, but the food could be better to match the prices :-) The meal is expensive, but does not meet the expectations of the customers!

I have traveled the world, and I never waited this long for anything... a drink... appetizer... or entree. They are either seriously understaffed, or trying to sell more drinks & get the customers drunk so they don't realize how long they've been waiting. Love the ambiance and service was great! Went for Mother’s Day Brunch and selected this restaurant specifically for the menu items listed on the website for Mother’s Day Brunch. It was not the menu they served. When we inquired about the items we were looking forward to, the chef stated it was marketing’s fault and it was actually the Easter menu listed on the website however it was clearly listed as the Mother’s Day menu. Very disappointing and felt misleading. If they would have been honest about the available menu, it would have been much more enjoyable.

Beautifully designed interior, it's located inside a hotel but feels like its own fancy restaurant. The cocktails are reasonably priced and they're generous with the alcohol in them. The charcuterie board is really good as well. Recommend making a reservation.

This is a nice quiet place off the main streets with large windows and a relaxed atmosphere. The food is amazing, I highly recommend the Mediterranean flatbread. For dessert, either the cheesecake or the fried bread pudding. The staff was very prompt and polite.

We stopped in for happy hour drinks & nosh Final Four weekend and loved it. The space is open yet bustling, fun, and gorgeously decorated -- hip but warm and inviting with brick, wood beams, big windows and lots of cozy seating. There was even an excellent jazz band playing and the acoustics and sound level were spot on. We tried several appetizers including the lamb sliders (excellent, served on yummy pretzel buns), tuna roll, charcuterie and a truly delicious crab cake. Can't wait to try it again for a full dinner!! What a fab addition to the neighborhood

This is a new restaurant downtown; we were in Minneapolis for a Leadership event and needed a quick bite to eat be fore headed back home. Our waiter was dynamite! Very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent, I had the spicy fish sandwich. It was delightful. Atmosphere was beautiful.

We stayed at the Canopy hotel for our wedding and held our rehearsal dinner at Umbra last September 2020. The food was outstanding, I think we ate at the restaurant 4 times over the course of a week and we always enjoyed the food! The staff and service for the rehearsal dinner were stellar, and our family and guests had so much fun, even in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. I would highly recommend Umbra, both for the food and the beautiful venue.

Bravo to Umbra! Every time I visit, may that be for happy hour, a quick lunch, or a leisurely dinner, the staff at Umbra never disappoints. Being knowledgeable and personable, the staff always knows exactly how to tend to my needs. Kudos to Chef Kevin who always makes an appearance and genuinely asks AND cares for the clienteles feedback. Umbra is a wonderful asset to the neighborhood and now a staple amongst the community.

Ordered their "Date night" special and it was delicious. The meatballs were full-flavored but not too spicy, and as good as the sausage flat bread was, the bruschetta was even better.

This is my 2nd visit and I’m still impressed. The menu is good, the food is flavorful and the live music is amazing. It’s a chill vibe with a “grown folks” touch. You can dress up or dress down and enjoy yourself. Though I haven’t stayed at the hotel, I’m used it for clients and they all loved their stay. A+

Really great ambiance and location, especially prior to Guthrie shows. Food was good, people friendly. I believe this place is pretty new, so giving them a hall pass as they get up to speed. (If this was a well established place i would give 2 stars.) Felt like a smaller, less experienced version of the Hewing and the restaurant there. Things they need to work on: - no host stand or apparent person to talk to to check in when I arrive. -beer menu seemed thin - ordered the charcuterie board, it was fine. Server could not tell me what was what on the board. (I could figure it out, but that's not the point....) - two tables next to us stayed empty but dirty for nearly the whole meal. Granted they weren't busy and didn't need them, but this is a nice place.... keep the tables clean. - food came out in a timely fashion. My duck was tasty but a bit cool. Certainly not hot. - wife had the flat bread which was also good, not amazing. - had two menus which was a little confusing (pictured). One was the main menu with apps, entrees, sides, etc. Then the other had a different menu of sides, and on the back were the flat breads (which was nice as my wife doesn't eat a ton of meat and there were no soups, salads, etc. She was happy to discover the flat breads) . I don't think it was a happy hour menu. Will certainly give them another chance in a month or two but I hope they work out the kinks.

Friendly service, small plates and side dishes can substitute dinner entrees. We really enjoyed the sliders, walleye cakes, Artichokes dip and Toasts. The wares used are too big, thus it was challenging fitting them on a small square table with 4 persons.

Matt DeRosier was amazing. I am in town for business and was walking through the lobby and heard him playing some Pink Floyd. I was heading to my room but stayed for a DRINK. And he kept playing a brilliant set list so I stayed for another drink. Had a great time. Honestly would not have hung out and hung out and had drinks if this dude wasn’t jamming. He even covered a phish song. Nobody does that! He is very talented and contributed to a perfect atmosphere. Made my night and was the highlight of my stay. Thanks for a great night. If I ever come to the twin cities I will stay here and hopefully see this dude if he plays again. PS - Kay Kay is the best. Great bartender!
