Reviews of The St. Paul Grill

The St Paul Grill is a classic fine dining experience. We had a very good experience overall, however the food fell just a bit short of the 5 star experience we were hoping for. My wife's trout and beet salad were good not great. My pot pie was exceptional and our guests enjoyed their meals. The waitress was very attentive. We had a couple of misses on the taste of the drinks. They replaced one without question. I will still recommend this place, we just had higher expectations based on the price.

Had lunch at The Saint Paul Grill today. Always a special treat. Our group ordered crab cake, salmon, and the black and blue burger. We followed up with the apple crisp for dessert. The quality was top-notch. The only request is for two crab cakes (like they used to) not just one. The restaurant was hopping--a vibrant energy but not too loud. I wish I got the server's name because he did such an awesome job. Attentive, genuine, and polite. Overall another fantastic experience at The Saint Paul Grill!!

Whenever we are in town, we have lunch or dinner at the St. Paul Grill in the Saint Paul Hotel. The restaurant is elegant, and the staff is top notch. The food is well-prepared and delicious. During our latest visit for lunch, we had the walleye pike and a BLT with fries. Both were very good.

I'm happy The St. Paul Grill is open again! The vibe is vibrant with a steady rhythm of a well trained staff. Service was top notch and the food was excellent (both in presentation and on the palate). We ordered a dozen oysters, onion soup, a wedge salad, scallops, filet mignon, and a burnt creme brulee, along with a couple of martinis... everything was perfect. One thing to note - acoustically it is a little loud so if someone in your party is hard of hearing this place may be difficult for them.

The St. Paul Grill offers an exemplary dining experience and our server Lindsey was fantastic! We ordered a variety of food and drinks which ranged from appetizers and mixed drinks to steaks and martinis. I ordered the 18 oz new york strip medium rare. The steak had a nice smokey char on the outside and it was cooked perfectly. We also got a few sides which were calamari, fries, and onion rings. The portions on the sides and appetizers were quite large so it was easy to share them at the table with others. We finished the night off with creme brulee and it was executed perfectly. The top had that iconic crunch and the custard was smooth and tasty. Our party of four spent around $500 so keep in mind that it is easy to run up a tab here, but this is somewhere that you come to enjoy yourself and have a good time!

The staff at The St Paul Grill went over and above to make a wonderful date night!
The Service was wonderful:) The Oysters & Lobster were amazingly delicious!! And the Steaks were cooked to perfection!!❤️
That evening and fabulous meal made us remember why we loved taking our Family to the St Paul Grill year after year for our Holiday Tradition! We can’t wait to come back again in December 🤩

Filet was perfectly cooked and had great flavor. The Brussel sprouts were crispy while not being over cooked. The Au gratin potatoes were
amazing as well, super creamy. I didn’t care for the sangria but that is more of a pallet issue than an issue with the drink they served. The service was pleasant and quick and I look forward to going back.

Our meal was flawlessly executed for every course. Bread basket to start: bread was soft and well baked. Split a carsar salad-- they brought it out on two plates for us. Well dressed, and the house-made croutons practically melt in your mouth. Steaks were perfectly cooked , sauces perfectly prepared. Hashbrowns are described as for 3-4 people, and i think that checks out-- we went home with more than half. There was nothing wrong with the hashbrowns, but by far, my favorite was the onion rings - thick cut, thick breading, perfectly crisp all the way through. 5 rings was plenty for 2 people, but I would feel deprived sharing with more than 3. The jalapeno aioli was delicious. I would go back just for the onion rings. Nothing sparked our interest on the dessert menu going in in that particular evening, but I'm not sure we could have made room anyway.

The food quality definitely took a hit after the pandemic. However, the level of service remains very good. Our group went here for dinner (part of Restaurant Week). The interesting thing about the special Dinner menu is: a choice of salad, steak (no other option for entree), and dessert. If you're vegetarian, vegan or pescaterian, you must order a la carte. The Sorrentino cocktail was very nice, the Seafood Stew was not memorable. I have had better bouillabaisse or cioppino elsewhere. Our friends enjoyed their Restaurant Week menu. Thanks Mary for the excellent service.

This St. Paul fine dining staple opens its doors again for dinner after a long hiatus and it’s just as good as ever! Wonderful atmosphere whether in the classic dining room or the gorgeous bar. The attention to detail on the entrées leaves one spoiled for choice to the point that you’ll feel you’ll have to come back soon to try the other option from the two you’ll undoubtedly be agonizing over. So… I did just that. Day 1 was the KC strip, which was pricey, but perfectly prepared. Day 2 was the Shrimp Scampi, which is served without any pasta, but is quite filling and the sauce is the most balanced and flavorful scampi variant I have ever tried. You can’t go wrong with surf and/or turf. (Also pictured is the Filet Oscar from another recent visit). I’m eagerly awaiting their lunch reopening so that I can return to eating more of the food that I have grown to love over the past 20 years! Other foods pictured: Oysters, Calamari, Chicken Wild Rice Soup, Complimentary Bread, Banana Cream Pie, Chocolate Torte,

The food was very good. American portions and high prices. The service was fantastic. Very bougie. High noise level - could not hear anyone besides the seats around me / could not hear the other side of my table. Masks worn by staff and by patrons not seated at tables. Tables were a fair distance away from one another.
Robert Wolf
Top of the line in every way. Menu selections of all sorts, prepared absolutely beautiful to the eye, and heaven to the palate.
Coming in is like a classy walk back in time. Beautifully decorated.
Can't forget this incredible wine and top shelf scotch selections.
Service is fabulous, and the bar area is always a fun place for a cocktail, very vibrant atmosphere.
Great job folks! Well done!!

This has been an amazing experience! From the top notch sevice, food quality and preperation and tast level that reminded me of only one other time that I have ever experienced when I was at the The Plantation House at 2000 Plantation Club Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761... Truly Amzing! Waitress Berhan was top notch and we will be requesting her when we come back! Thank you again...

The epitome of elegant dining! The St. Paul Grill always offers outstanding food, eminence and service! Our server, Marty, was great.

A group of us stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and it was a fun experience. Very classy decor and relaxing ambiance. The food was excellent, although the lunch menu was pretty lkmited. We ordered the warm cheese and oysters to share, they were absolutely delicious. Most of us ordered burgers and they were perfectly cooked and came with hot, crispy fries. The only drawback was that the service was slow. Two of us ordered simple drinks and it took longer than usual to arrive. The server was impeccably professional the entire time but not sure where the delay was.

We attended a wedding, seriously all the food was phenomenal. We felt satisfied and not gross overly full.

The Saint Paul Grill is perhaps the finest dining experience for sure in the city of Saint Paul but maybe even the twin cities as a whole. The hospitality provided here is unmatched. When you are seated at your table you soon feel as if you are in the home kitchen of a close family member. The staff have been graciously serving guests for decades and you can tell based on the efficiency and attention to detail in the restaurants operation. The food is classic, simple yet still top tier. The cocktails are sophisticated and the liquor selection is massively unbeatable especially on the whiskey side. If you find yourself in the city of Saint Paul this is a can't miss dining experience.

This bar in inside St. Paul hotel which is an old established institution in downtown St. Paul. We sat at the bar for a few drinks. A very wide variety of drinks and very friendly bartenders. A must visit.
Seth Calvin
The cocktails here are amazing. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They also have a great selection of bourbons and whiskeys.
Austin Saunders
Food was excellent- we had crab cakes and double pork chop with wild rice soup. All fantastic and cooked to order.
Our waitress was exceptional as well and even let me try one of the drinks they make in house complimentary.
Be aware space is hard to come by and I'd make reservations beforehand. 5 star food and service, great job!
Toni Cordell
Absolutely beautiful. Fancy. Entertaining. A true romantic and or exciting adventure, to eat here! Go enjoy an amazing night out!
5 stars! And yes... the food is outrages in price buy the service and the people and the environment and the taste!!
Worth it!!

Excellent food, service and ambience. Extremely professional staff who are also friendly and helpful, guiding us to a great wine selection that didn’t break the bank and appropriate items to share (like the huge and delicious baked potato). Great steak dinner! Drink at bar beforehand was also fun and tasty.
Brian Pike
Great atmosphere, all bartenders and wait staff were very personable and enjoyable to interact with. Food was very good (we had calamari, walleye, rotisserie chicken, mushrooms for side). Our server didn't check on us as frequently as I was hoping but still a great evening.
Reuben L Correa
Very very busy with festive air laughter and good cheer. It was standing room only. The bartenders were working adeptly and multi tasking was the name of the game. My bartender was tops at her game, efficient, inventive and knowledgeable. This bar had floor to ceiling shelves of bottles and I’ll bet you could name any drink and they had the stuff to make it with.
No pictures because I was in a hurry and hungry. But I had a Stella Artois and a big bowl of their delicious and creamy, chicken wild rice soup! And a basket of warm bread and butter.
They don’t skimp on anything!!

Our dining experience at the St Paul Grill was excellent. Our meal was excellent as well as our server. We never felt rushed and our selections were perfectly spaced. It was one of those evenings that at the end of the meal, we felt very relaxed and very satisfied with our dining experience. We highly recommend the St, Paul Grill as a find dining experience.

Great place with great food. Toni is the best server.

We enjoyed our 50th wedding anniversary dinner at the St Paul Grill. The food was delicious... the halibut and the special rib eye were perfectly prepared. The spicy shrimp appetizer was so tasty. We shared a very generous dish of apple crisp for dessert. Our waitperson has worked there for 30 yrs and you couldn't ask for better service! Thank you St Paul Grill for making our 50th so special!!

Awesome dinner and great staff!! Plan ahead and book a time because the slots fill up fast. The front desk said they were booked all night but the restaurant got us in before our concert

Astonishing!! The food, the server, and the atmosphere were amazing!! 5 out 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After several outings for two or six, and knowing how The St. Paul Grill is annually as the best restaurant in Downtown St. Paul, MN, it was a nice choice for our group of good size.
For starters, we’ve tried and recommend the Beef Tenderloin Bites tossed in Cajun Seasoning with Horseradish Cream and Hot Sampler. Both are easy to share. Sometimes its all we need to have a drink and appetizer at the end of an evening at the Ordway or an event at the Landmark.
I highly recommend their Cream of Minnesota Wild Rice Soup and once had the best creamed sumptuous cauliflower dish that I’ve ever tasted. The Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon with Roasted Vegetables on the platter is a tasty blend of flavors. The sauce that tops off the Bone if Beef Filet is seasoned perfectly.
Since we were a group, it works well as everyone loves classic American food. It’s a nice option for special events since the food is prepared by award-winning chefs.
The Chef and Catering Manager are clearly seasoned at hospitality services. Each course was served on time and arrived at the right temperature to our table. The worked hard to do what we you needed. The one area of improvement that I might recommend is that our bills were a tangle and delayed some party’s ability to leave when they hoped to.
Every time we go, we enjoy this beautiful and historic building. We can count on comfortable seating, valet service, and a luxurious setting with excellent service. If you have a wait for seathing, the front garden is a lovely place to spend a bit of time.
We're eager to return once it is permitted to re-open after COVID-19 restrictions lift.

Food price point kept me from having a nice steak, so I had a Rotisserie Chicken. It was fine, not outstanding. The molten lava cake was very good.

My husband and I had dinner here for my birthday. It was a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and there were so many choices. I can't wait to go back again

After a crazy night of bad luck we ended up here.
Our server kevin was fantastic and he was onto of things. The old hotel had a warm cozy feel to it and brought you back in time. We were greeted and seated quickly and took some time to review the menu.
Kevin answered all of our questions and we both ended up getting thier aged fillet mignon for dinner and a side of Mac and cheese and the warm cheese plate. The cheese plate came out first and the bread provided had a rich garlic taste with butter that tingled the taste buds. The addition of thier chutney invigorated the senses and the cheese omg was soo fantastic if left us wanting more.
The main course was next. I ordered mine rare and omg cooked to perfection. Generally I order a rare steak and the chef decides that I don't really know what I want and takes the liberty of making it medium rare. This chef did it right and the steak mooed as I cut into the tender flesh. The other steak was medium rare and it was also perfect. You can see the beautiful rings of colors like the rings on an old tree after being cut down. The steak cut very clean and smooth with so little effort that an elderly person could do it with ease.
The Mac and cheese was fantastic and full of cheesy goodness and was not like Velveeta cheese used at other establishments. The wine list is very extensive as always and so is the whiskey menu. The food did not dissapoint. Kevin boxed the leftovers and was happy to assist. These good reviews are my favorite because they allow others to experience what you have without going to these locations

Absolutely the best place we ate in in the twin cities! Iconic and steeped in history! Classy with liveried waiters- old school- awesome! Fit for a special occasion! Really superb! Charles was our waiter and he was as lovely as the restaurant! Definitely one to go back to again! You get a choice of regular table and booths! Pricey but worth it!! 50-60 bucks per person with a drink, main and a side!

Come here for amazing food and drinks. 😋 Wedge Salad and delicious Salmon. You will also be wowed by the gorgeous view of Rice Park across the street😮🤩

I am going to have to be completley honest in this review, The St. Paul Grill is one of the best if not the best resturant out there. The service is the highest possible tier, probably the best I have seen in my Local Guide career. Chris is a favorite of mine, he is exteremely charismatic and I was excited every time he came back to fill up my water. It really made me feel like you come for the food and stay for Chris. Mark, the general manager personally came to our table and made us feel welcome after one of our steaks was a little to rare. Not only did he come out, the chef came out too. This resturant is high end and overall a beautiful dining experience.

We went to see "It's a Wonderful Life ", the performance was wonderful. My food was cold and tough. The wine for the price was not that good.

The St. Paul Grille is consistently one of St. Paul's best dining spots. The ambiance and menu are upscale. However I was disappointed with the service this past Friday night.
We came in late on a Friday night for dessert and ordered the apple crisp and molten lava cake without the alcohol. We stressed to the waitress that we do not want any alcohol in the lava cake (for religious reasons), as there was as per the menu (bourbon). She said that the restaurant would be able to accommodate us on that request. However, when we began eating the cake we couldn't tell at first but towards the bottom I took a bite of cake that left a tingling sensation in our mouth, indicative of alcohol.
We didn't want to make a scene as it was around closing and we had already finished most of the cake at this point.
I would say if you have a dietary restriction, inform the wait staff and double check after you receive your food. After our experience I was disappointed with the sloppy wait staff/kitchen staff.

I was on a work trip and visited here with my client. The place had an an old world charm . Everyone ordered their share of wine and beers. Then it was our turn to order the appetizers and our host ordered a sea food platter and a cheese platter. I loved the sound of spicy shrimp and asked for that too. The food took a while to reach our table and it was lot of food for all of us( sorry couldn’t click the picture of the platter). It has squids, octopus, crab cakes, shrimp cocktail and fish. For the main course one of them chose a steak, rest settled for the salmon and I chose a salad as I was already full. The desserts were delicious the whipped banana cake, the molten lava cake and the cheese cake. I didn’t click most pics as it was an official dinner. The food and the ambience was good. The service was kind of slow. They have the best crab cakes in my opinion. Go try :)

What a fantastic meal. Our waiter Charles and zedrick were superb. The place was filled to the gills and these two guys took care of everything for us .
We started with the tier 2 seafood tower . The king crab legs come split in two . The crab it self was fantastic we could really taste the sweetness of the meat. Oysters on the half shell were super fresh and delicious and when you add the mignonette sauce . Just amazing.
The jumbo shrimp were over cooked . Very large shrimp but a little tough. The seared tuna was great as well .
We all went with filet mignon and added the oscar . Steaks were all cooked to perfection and were delicious .
The sides were very good as well. Just a sprinkle of salt for my taste from being perfect. The brussel sprouts with serrano ham and manchego were fantastic.
Creme brulee was great as well. Had a fantastic crust on it .
Seriously one of the best meals I have ever had in my life . Thank you all for providing the experience

Simply amazing! The service, food and atmosphere are all 5 star. A wonderful venue for any special occasion or just a night you want to pamper yourself. We enjoyed the tasting menu when we were there and couldn't have been happier.

My wife and I and our friends went here for our dinner; we had been to this restaurant for drinks in the past. This dinner experience just blew the others places we went to in the past..
We were welcomed by Diane who was the Maitre d’at the host stand.
We did not have to wait as we had reservations. It was a Saturday night, we were early 17:15 so they were not as busy as we saw later in the evening. We had a nice table for 4 by the window with a beautiful view of the Rice Park, covered by fresh snow.
We started traditionally with a bottle of Lamarca Prosecco, nice, fresh italian sparkling wine. Charles was our waiter, super nice gentleman... very attentive and very calm. We love to spend our time to enjoy our friends talking, laughing enjoying our time.
We had no pressure to order our food from Charles whatsoever, great job. This is exactly what we liked.
Later it was very nice of the manager on duty Tara Balthazar to stop by and introduce herself to us. Thank you Tara, it was great to chat with you.
Soon after we got a nice basket of assorted breads and crackers. That was followed by oysters plate for everyone….wow….was that good!!! Fantastic ! We loved it, oysters were delicious and they looked like were brought fresh from the ocean, great plate.
Later our friend had a Mixed Green Salad,it was good, following with pepper crusted lamb -super nice..
Charles was cruising around us without any pressure to order our main dishes right the way, very nice, thank you again.
Our friends ordered filet mignon and top sirloin ,medium well, both were juicy and well seasoned. Our friends loved the meat.
The wine selection for them was this incredible Sangiovese from Luna Vineyards 2015 Napa Valley. I would recommend this wine, it is very special, you will not be disappointed.
I love seafood so I decided to go with the panko encrusted lemon thyme rainbow trout with asparagus, it was nice size and it was really smooth, I loved it.
My wife decided to order seafood stew dish, which had a lobster, shrimp, clams and freshly cut white fish in a saffron tomato broth with garlic crostini. It was good. She liked it.
We had a 2018 Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough Oyster Bay New Zealand, it was an excellent choice for our seafood. Both wines were truly excellent.
Later on we had this incredible opportunity to meet the executive Sous Chef Gheorghe Vatafu, very nice man. Chef Gheorge and his team deserve a big thank you from us. Great job guys !
Diane and Tara were periodically checking on us, very nice way to be sure your guests are happy.
For dessert we had cappuccinos, espresso, a glass of Hennessy VS and a glass of Graham’s 20y old Tawny Port- fantastic as always. The temperature of my cappuccino was too cold, I asked Charles and got it fixed right the way.
My additional comments:
-the noise from the bar can be disturbing if you want to sit and talk with your friends- ask for the table away from the bar
-you use ice cubes and wash clothes in the restroom- nice
-you have correct temperature in your wine chiller, and you have chillers for the open bottles- super nice
-all waiters, chefs, the host, helpers were dressed properly for the upper level restaurant
- parking is easy- valet
-restaurant has a coat check -nice
-please you need to have different glasses for the red and white wine...I don t understand why you don t
Overall our experience at St.Paul Grill Restaurant was... I can easily say great ,we will be back.
Thank you all for your hard work everybody, bravo!

My husband and I came for our first anniversary dinner and it was an unforgettable dining experience! The food was superb and service was excellent! My husband mentioned it was our anniversary when we made the reservation and they made our day when they surprised us with delicious dessert on the house. We knew it was going to be a worthwhile meal in this restaurant, and we were not disappointed!

Anything on the menu is excellent! The waiter Brian was the best too. So knowledgeable about all the dinner options. Can't go wrong here! So worth every penny!
Robbie Sonnemann
Awesome staff make sure you sit at the bar for dinner with Wess. Probably the best bartender in the State
Chandra Wu
Great service, steaks and divine brussels sprouts and mashed potatos in a lovely atmosphere. I was delighted to find the hands free laundered towel service in the WC instead of paper or electric!
Carolina Margaria
St. Paul grill never disappoints, I highly recommend the hash browns, steak sandwich, or chicken pot pie!
Jeff Turlington
The food was outstanding. The service was great. We took a desert home as we were to full to eat it there and to find the key lime pie was bad. It tasted bad. Very rancid. Other wise everything else was a great experience.
johnny b
Very good. The escargot are the best I've ever had and at 72, I've had a few. The ambience is nice. I'm glad it's back open for service. Some of the wine is over proved. I have several Chateau Margaux 2010 at home. It's nice but not $3300.00 worth. We got a rioja, which tend to be unappreciated. Very reasonable.
Slava Abramiants
New Year’s Day brunch was great. Fantastic food and service. Very reasonably priced.
Arielle P
My experience at the St. Paul Grill was excellent. Our food was amazing, certainly the best steak (filet mignon) I've ever had in MN. The service was wonderful, and my group had a fantastic evening. I highly recommend the St. Paul Grill and I look forward to my next visit.
Aaron Fullen
Used to be great. No longer great. Middling food. Atmosphere is nothing special.
Mary Jo Bartels
Our meal was wonderful Parmesan crusted halibut and pan seared scallops; our friend had walleye.
The bar is incredible and has a huge selection of spirits!
Delish all the way around!
Harris Kleyman
Saint Paul Grill will always have some of the best service and food in the industry. The experience from entering the hotel, to the host / wait staff, the food, and even the restrooms are a level above. Brunch on Sunday’s is a must, lobster roll or the grilled lobster, the pot pie, the soups. You can’t go wrong.
Alicia Jauch
Great steaks, salads, side dishes.. and banana cream pie!!!
Kristen Abercrombie
We stayed at the hotel last year and for our 26th went back for a drink. Everything is so good! They always make us feel spoiled!
Jerry Robertson
Wow! What a great place for a drink. I didn't get the two bartenders names last night. But they were both phenomenal. We'll be back for dinner and more drinks.
Jackie Binger
I want to start off saying, I’m not slamming the bar/restaurant… but be aware of how much you’re charged. We had dinner reservations at 5pm and arrived early. Decided to have a drink in the bar.
Bought two cocktails & looked at the prices as signing the credit card receipt. Noticed one was $15, okay thought a little high but they know the prices. Right?
The rest of party arrived and we were seated. Our server was wonderful and attentive. At the end of our meal she brought over individual bills which was great & we asked for when originally seated. My friend goes to the restroom and leaves me $100 to pay for her bill. As I put the money inside the bill holder, I notice the same cocktail I bought at the bar is now $10… not $15. I ask the server if it had been happy hour for that price. She replied, we don’t have happy hour. I comment on how the same drink in the bar was $5 more. She tells me she’ll check into it. A little while later… maybe a manager, not sure because he doesn’t introduce himself comes to the table. Had zero explanation and doesn’t even try to explain the $5 difference. Just tells me he’ll take the $5 off my bill. Truthfully it’s not the money, but the principle. I tell him it’s very deceitful and how many people are they doing this to and they never notice.
Advice look at your bill!!!!

Everything on the menu is awesome! The halibut was fabulous 👌! Our server Brian was so knowledgeable about absolutely everything! Wes the Bartender/Mixologist is phenomenal. He make these unbelievable drinks alcoholic and non! Thank you for opening back up again St. Paul Grill!

Old school place. The food was overpriced for what it was - good, but not great. The rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes were outstanding, and the oysters were pretty great (that's really why we went), but the rest was so-so. The place is REALLY loud, like a relic from hush-hush old boys club meals. Most people were pretty dressed up and fancy - *almost* made me uncomfortable tearing into the chicken with my hands, but it was too good not to! The broccolini was underdone (as though you'd only want to eat the tops) and the walleye was overpowered by a strange fruity sauce.
mary willis
Great place great people, great waitress. Great environment. Love it. Good drinks.

Brilliant dinner to celebrate 50th wedding anniversary. Terrific historical location, with excellent staff and service. Recommend beef tenderloin, salmon, chicken pot pie, scallops, au gratin potatoes, mac and cheese and all the desserts.
Tou Lor
The food was great and so was the service. Would come back again for the oysters.
Robert Hagen
The classiest spot in Saint Paul, the Grill is an immaculate steak house with great specials, excellent cocktails, and a stupendous wine list. The bar is superb and the kitchen never misses.
Enough superlatives. Try their filet or chicken pesto pasta. Their Manhattan is the best in town.
And you must stop in on St. Patrick's day for some corned beef and cabbage. Who knows, you might even be serenaded by some Irish bagpipes!
Emily Wafflespork
I mean, it's fine. The food is pretty solid for a restaurant of the caliber it's trying to be, though honestly, I just felt underwhelmed for the prices on the menu. The french onion soup was PHENOMENAL, but everything else was like - eh, this is fine. If you're in the area and are looking for something fancy, it's a solid and safe option - but you can definitely find something more interesting at a lower price.
Also i tripped and fell on my way out and spooked like 3 tables. That has no part on my review, I just felt like adding that in for flavor.
Mason Y
Can be really loud and noisy when games are happening in town.
Regardless of that, the food is not bad, but a bit overpriced. We went to dine here a few times after the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) concerts and their dining room closes at 9 so we had to sit in the bar area.
Standard American fare.
Tasty signature salad and chicken pot pie!

Amazing food, our waitress rose was attentive, will definitely be coming back !

Food was fabulous and the atmosphere is warm and comforting. If you don't have reservations, you can sit in the car area with a full menu, but you must likely will need to arrive right when they open to get a seat. The scallops were incredible! The filet mignon was really yummy as well!
Doris Ferguson
Fabulous steak, lobster and walleye. The hashbrowns were to die for! Loved the Saint Paul Grill. Service was excellent!
Shannon Hendricks
Loved it, looking forward to staying here some day. 😉
Ryan Sundberg
This is THE bar you want to visit in St. Paul. The sazarac was next level, service can't be beat, and the atmosphere is friendly.
Brian Richtmyre
Service was excellent, food was good but smaller portions. Reasonably priced.
Randy Mathews
Would've been 5 stars, but got a bait and switch in our wine order, with no apology from the management. When we pointed it out, it was a "take it or leave it" response from the management. Not the way to frame an otherwise excellent meal, when you're dealing with a $150 bottle of wine!
Nate Nelly
Good place to grab a drink and some dessert. Be warned that this place is classy and expensive.
Sally Hoover
My partner and I always do special event at St. Paul Grill, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is only the two of us so this is the best way to go. I love to dress up, the food is good and the staff are great. Missed this place in 2019 due too COVID. The bar is quate and good wine and whiskey. Not sure about mixed drinks as that is not what I drink but sure good.

Came to celebrate my friend's birthday and we have a delightful time food was incredible
Jen Goodman
Delicious, beautiful and excellent service! This was our first meal here and it definitely did not disappoint. We opted for the Restaurant week menu which was a nice way to try it out. We will definitely be back!
Scott Fisher
Great food. Excellent steak and walleye along with the rest. Excellent service.
Carole Minogue
Yikes, just amazing!
Great martini, delicious calamari, freakishly good Cesar salad, the best, freshest tasting pot pie ever and crème brûlée to die for-It all blew my mind.
Top notch service to boot.
My pre birthday dinner and I could not be happier.
Thank you.
Kyle Mullins
Great food and caring staff

We spend our anniversary, Christmas Eve, and Father's Day here every year!

Great experience. The bar was beautiful and had great mood. Can't wait to come back for many more gatherings.

The atmosphere was second to none. A very busy place for a Tuesday night but I was able to secure a table for one without a reservation. While the hostess looked a little disappointed I would be tying up a table for four by myself, my server Charles, made up for it. He made me feel valued as a customer, provided suggestions, and first-class service. The summer sangria was delightful and not too sweet, but had a generous fruity flavor. The Landmark salad was a dinner portion size and was more than enough food. It was incredibly fresh and loaded with pears, grapes and pieces of delicious roasted chicken. It was served with a bread basket filled with a variety of breads and fresh cracker flat bread, all of which were fabulous. I passed on dessert as they all appeared to be very rich, decadent and too heavy following the meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant based on the ambiance, food, and service. You won't be disappointed.
Jasmine Magner
I've been here to have a nice dinner and it was wonderful. I've also stopped by their bar for a drink and dessert. They've got the best Molten Lava Cake!
Kevin K
Had a wonderful experience here. This building has a lot of history and character and the decor is very unique and beautiful. I believe the hotel opened first in 1901! The interior design of the restaurant itself and hotel very exquisite and classy. Great place to bring some one special in your life. The service at the restaurant was good but food did not live up to the expectations. I ordered the ribeye medium well and although it was well seasoned the outside was a bit overcooked and black to be honest. My date ordered chicken pesto and it was decent. Overall I was pleased would consider coming back to order something other than steak. There are far better options for steak in the cities
Nicole Dobbe
We went for brunch and it was so so good. Not your average breakfast. The caramel pecan roll was amazing. And so we're the creamy hashbrowns. We were a little nervous about bringing my 18 month old to such a fancy restaurant with but she was welcomed and staff were patient with her. We will be back for brunch again!
Louis W.
The food is invariably great at this upscale hotel, the best in town. It is of a classic American nature, using the best ingredients and the quantities are huge. A good example for that would be their cheesy hashbrowns. Service was excellent. A few negatives: High prices (they also wanted $16 for valet parking, so naturally you give the valet a $20 bill, including tip); the lack of light on the bar side making it difficult to see what you eat. The place was also incredibly loud on the bar side, although you can't blame the establishment for that. At least some people had a good time, while annoying a few others, like us, who were looking forward to a nice, quiet conversation among friends...
Arielle Anderson
Celebrated my engagement here! The food was good, especially the crab cakes. The staff were friendly
Sean Sullivan
Always a wonderful experience and was a fantastic way to celebrate our anniversary!

Service was amazing! My wife and I felt like VIPs from the moment we walked in the doors. Amanda the hostess was very welcoming. Our waitress Jamie was incredible. Super friendly and on top of everything. I was very impressed with the way things operate at the St Paul Grill and will definitely be returning. Hats off to the culinary team for making an extremely delicious meal.
Troy Baumann
Great staff but the cocktail list is mired in sweet on sweet. Outstanding Scotch selection but the pricing is a problem. For the cost of three drams you could easily buy a whole bottle. To the ownership- Offer flights of whisky to show off your goods, unless you're just bragging about your cellar.
Rich Kelley
The Iconic St. Paul Grill never disappoints! Amazing food, service & ambiance! Take your special someone to the “Grill” for your next Anniversary or Birthday!

Amazing food coming from an amazing chef. After having food here I only want to try more of the menu to find a weakness in the armor. Food prepared perfectly, great waitstaff and great flavors. Luckily we were with 8+ people so I was able to see multiple platings and share desserts. Can't wait to visit again when I'm in town.
Jesse Columbus
We came here on our mini moon when we stayed at the St paul hotel. This is well worth coming here for dinner. They have the best french onion soup I've found to date. They have a vast selection of wine and spirits to choose from. Steak reigns supreme here and you can get it with so many toppings and made just to your liking. They also have a lot of other great cuts of meats to choose from. It does get busy so make sure to get your reservation in and in advanced just to be safe.

I love it, I was with my kids soups are so good staffs are friendly ❤🤩 …
Forrest Edwards
Stopped in just for hot chocolate and espresso after skating with two kids. Great experience for them. Hot chocolate was delicious and we felt very welcome despite being dressed for skating and not for upscale dining. Girls kept eating my sugar cubes and our server was more than happy to bring more. Highly recommend as a special treat.

Very high quality cuisine if you so desire.

This is great place for lunch and dinner! They have great service and fantastic food. Their chicken pesto pasta is great and I love the steak here. Walleyes are delicious too. Burgers are just okay.. They have great desserts to share here as well.
Casey B
The St Paul Grill is a good place, but not the best, and it really should be. We have eaten here on several occasions as we stayed at the St Paul Hotel. They do have a great variety of dishes, the wild rice soup is always a good choice. Honestly I have just never been overly impressed with any steaks I have had, I am however very picky and even more so when paying top dollar. Worth a try but not sure it’s worth the prices.
Lauren Gajdocek
My boyfriend and I have dinner here every once and a while and always enjoy ourselves. The service is excellent, from the valet (who always seems to remember us) to our waiters. The food is always perfectly done and often time the floor managers and chef stop by our table to check on us. It's a great place to get a taste of upscale St. Paul dining.
Update - my date and I had the intention of going to the bar lounge and the valet (who wasn't the usual valet) was rude and almost combative. I understand that the may have been full as there was a wild game but the attitude was really unnecessary. I've sworn by this establishment for years and this is the first negative thing I've ever had to say.
Joua Khang
My boyfriend and I went to the St Paul Grill last night for the first time to celebrate his birthday. It was by far one of the best services we've ever received. Our server, Ryan, exceeded all expectations. He was funny, friendly, professional, attentive, and honest - which we really appreciated. One of our steaks were a bit under cooked but Ryan had them correct it right away. The food was overall delicious. From the moment we stepped out of the car to the end of the night, every person we encountered was friendly and courteous. We'd definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends and family and will be sure to return. Thanks again to everyone at the St Paul Grill and major kudos to Ryan!
jennifer anderson
Exceptional experience all the way around!! The hostesses and managers are kind and friendly, greeting you with a smile. Wes at the bar is one of a kind. Forget looking at the drink menu-- just tell him what you like and he'll whip up some amazing drink for you. Ryan T as a server is fantastic-- he's attentive and knows his stuff. He helps make your Grill experience. We are bummed if Ryan or Wes are off work when we come in! The food is just the icing on the cake; it never disappoints- kudos to the chefs in back. Customer service is the top priority, and it clearly shows.
Jane Johns
Outstanding food and service. The best cuts of meat that you can cut with a butter knife. Everything from the table bread, appetizers, main course, and dessert are top notch. This place never fails to deliver. The venue can be a bit noisy. The Saint Paul Grill is a 5 star restaurant, and they live up to their status.
Jennifer Wahl
This place is top notch! Our table had a beautiful view of the Christmas lights and the courtyard just outside. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. She gave us helpful recommendations for appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Our meals were well prepared, beautifully plated, and delicious. The banana cream pie and espresso were the perfect way to top off the meal! We travel to the area frequently and we'll definitely be back!
Trenton Olson
Great food, okay service. I went with a group before a wild game, and the wait staff literally said "I hate the crowd the wild games bring in" and while that is completely understandable to me, you should never say something like that, especially in this kind of an establishment (4-5 star restaurant) within hearing distance from your guests.
Other than that, I'd say it was a wonderful experience, we had escargot for the table, I personally had a seafood scampi and all together, it was fantastic.
Vince Jones
Food was really good especially the pork chop. Service was excellent!
My only complaint would be that it has a design my parents would love (I.e. isn't very contemporary).
If you don't have an issue with this or are looking for great food over a more modern feel, St. Paul Grill is a great place to relax and end the day.
Katie
Absolutely amazing Reuben and lamb stew! The service was amazing. The cocktails were delicious. What a wonderful experience.
Cindy Robinson
Rose is an awesome server! French Onion Soup, filet mignon, mac and cheese and hash browns were phenominal!
Sitting by the window and enjoying the lit up park is always beautiful!
Samantha Craft
The food was delicious! The service eat great! We went for our 5 year anniversary and they gave us a chocolate bomb at the end. So nice and so very good. Can't wait to go back!
Nikki Sansone
Drinks are great, mac n cheese is the best I've had. I always get the strip steak and it never disappoints. My complaint about this place is the service. It is hit or miss, and when it is a "hit" it is just very good service. I think some of the serves have worked there a LONG time and simply resting on one's laurels. Last time there my guest and I sat at our table for 15 minutes unnoticed. I finally have to go a back up to the front desk to say something. During that whole time a couple different servers went past our table multiple times and never took notice.
I enjoy the food too much and the location is convenient for me so I will continue to go back.
R Bull
Had a work meeting there the other day. The service was outstanding!! Server was full of suggestion. He was knowledgeable about the whole menu. The specials of the day including the large selection of grown up nonalcoholic work day beverages was great and although I didn’t choose it I would highly recommend the pot pie!! I was a newbie but will certainly be back!!
Dave Mariani
Expensive but very good...the pork chops were excellent..my wife and son loved their steaks. We will go back.
Olivia Isle
Went to the St Paul Grill for my birthday, and it was amazing! everyone was very friendly, and the food as usual was to die for. Our waitress was very kind and helpful and did her best to make sure our experience was great. the only thing I did not like was the valet service. The man in charge ignored us for about 10 minutes, but when someone extremely well dressed came out they were helped right away, and treated like royalty while we were waiting well before him. He was very rude towards us, and unfortunately put a damper on a fabulous night, and took 2 stars off what would have been a 5 star experience
Siara E.
Drinks are good, ambience is fun, the bartender (Wes) was awesome. Great place to go for an entertaining night out. Why only 3 stars? As up scale as this place is, they are behind the times and have minimal to no vegan options. I guess I am not the clientele they're looking for.
Michael Skillrud
Professional, knowledgeable service. Excellent breakfast. Very tasty bloody mary. (Just remember, when they ask if you want it spicy, keep in mind you are in Minnesota. You might want to have them notch it up a little extra.)
Madeline Strom
I would like to start by saying that our wait staff, Paul, provided our family some of the very best service that we've ever recieved at a restaurant. He was very special and we called the restaurant to give our compliments about him to the manager following our meal. Reason for 3 stars: my mom's $70 lobster was disastrously overcooked. It was like chewing on rubber. She didn't want to return it so she suffered through it but for a restaurant of that caliber and for food of that cost, it did not meet our expectations. I highly recommend the succotash and the white fish fillets.
Zach Weaver
Food was incredible and the service was the same. Very fancy.
Jon Engstrand
I've been a chef now for almost 10 years and the food and craft cocktails created at the St. Paul Grill are executed very well, if you're looking for original steakhouse classics you'll feel right at home. Not to mention their very extensive wine list as well as signature craft cocktails that are divine.
Ted Gautsch
Located within the St. Paul Hotel this is a great venue for lunch or dinner.
I recommend making reservations as this establishment is quite popular and being located in the hotel most likely adds to the high volume of traffic.
The staff are extremely diligent and professional, they seated us immediately to a table. The dining room is comfortable and quiet, they also have a full service bar.
This restaurant has a great wine menu as well as an excellent selection of single malt scotch.
I started with a caesar salad which was prepared very well with a dressing of my preference, one which does not taste like you have fish in your mouth. The Filet Mignon came exquisitely prepared, medium rare just as I asked, a side of bearnaise to compliment, The au gratin potatoes are some of the best I have had, naturally cheesy, not saucy cheesy.
I enjoyed ending my dinner with the delightful chocolate molten lava cake and an espresso. Stop in before a show or just to enjoy a great dinner.
Cheers!
Richard Quigley
This is like a great East Coast Tavern.... actually modeled after one. Always excellent meals, wine list, etc. Everything made from scratch, bakery makes all breads, desserts, etc. I've been going here for over 20 years.... never once disappointed. Terrific St Paul downtown ambience in a historic hotel. Not for Mall food people....who wouldn't understand.
Emily White
Each and every time I eat here I wonder why I don’t come here more often. Absolutely impeccable service is a guarantee. The food speaks volumes about the skill and experience of the chef and his staff. This place is amazing and always worth the trip.
J Waterous
Ok this is the best steak and accompanying delights: in the Twin Cities. Christmas Day service was outstanding and our table was just great too.
Rachel Matzke
A little too fancy for my taste, but we had a gift card. It was beautiful. The staff were so kind and that's what this world needs more of. A man named Steve came over to make sure we were satisfied. He was so nice! Thank you!

Hand the st.patricks specials
Amazing Reuben and lamb soup.
My kids loved food and the service is top end.
tunkin05
As essential workers, I just want to say a very big thank you to St Paul Grill. They have provided us with free meals all week. We are very appreciative of this. The meals are delicious. We the staff at St Joseph Hospital Neuro unit/ICU say thank you again and again!
Nick Spangler
The St. Paul Grill is a nice, fancier restaurant in downtown Saint Paul. The food was good and the staff were incredibly friendly. They also have a pretty extensive wine list and full bar, though if you prefer beer there are few options (though they do tend to be craft beers). This place seems great for dates and more relaxed dining, though I was told that pretty rowdy crowds can come in on days with Wild games or concerts at the Xcel Center. This can make for great people watching, but maybe look into what's going on downtown before coming if this isn't your jam.
J Maloney
Restaurant menu had great choices! Landed on wild rice soup to start and it was incredible! Sirloin and pork entrees were delicious. Ended with lava cake that was rich and delicious!
B Boss
Always worth the yearly trip downtown for me. Rice park across the street is a nice walk through too.
Steve Godfrey
Restaurant seemed loud - louder than expected. Ordered a martini and asked if they had any "interesting gin." Server replied "Bombay Sapphire?" Not interesting. Got a Plymouth Martini that was huge, but a little watery and not cold enough. Wine list seemed OK. The trout was very good. The Walleye was not. It was mushy and tasteless, except for the cloyingly sweet sauce. Served with big, watery slices of summer squash and zucchini. To their credit, when the waiter asked how things were and I said the trout was far better than the walleye he offered to bring a complementary trout to replace the walleye. That saved the evening. The pork chop was fine, though sweet. The "pumpkin bisque" seemed to be pumpkin pie that had been put in a blender, whipped cream and all. This is a middle of the road restaurant pretending to be fancy. There must be better options.
Mila Sewrathan
Loved the location. Enjoyed the chicken pot pie.
Adam Heimendinger
The St. Paul Grill is an amazing restaurant. The location is perfect and the look is very professional. Great music combined with exquisite artwork provide a classy atmosphere. The prices are reasonable for the experience and the service is top notch. The quality of the food is reflected by this. I highly recommend The St. Paul Grill if you're ever downtown.
Erin Mihm
Stopped in for a drink at the bar on my birthday with my husband. The bartender charmed his way into both my husband's heart and mine. Amazingly great service-felt very loved from Wes. The whole place has this great old world feel and warm ambiance.
Edward Stec
A bit expensive but great atmosphere and food
Mandy Tong
We had dinner at St Paul Grill 3 times in 2 weeks. Food are delicious (especially the scallops!! Pear and strawberry salad are also fantastic!!) and price is reasonable. Desiree King served us in the first 2 visits and she is an initiative, passionate and considerate waitress. She offered us to share the set dinner because we could not eat too much; she also helped us give a birthday surprise to our friend...We love her so much!
One star was deducted here because of the poor service in our 3rd visit by another waitress.
Elizabeth Hernandez
Great food ... salmon was fresh, not fishy tasting ... with a butter sause, served on a bed of spinach. Salad fresh, crisp and filling. My friend had a huge bowl of chicken wild rice soup, extremely delicious and filling, along with a chicken salad sandwich containing chunks of fresh chicken, grapes and cashews thrown in. The entire lunch was lovage. We even bought their set of gorgeous steak knives, presented in a lovely suede box. Can't wait to return to have that soup!
Grace
Fantastic restaurant in the heart of St Paul. It's a little spendy, but it's completely worth every penny! The cocktails are amazing and the food (especially the steaks) are heavenly. Good place to go if you want to impress your date!
Amanda Cowette
We went to the Saint Paul Grill to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we got there they made sure my special night went great. The host wished me me a happy birthday and so did so many of the staff. They were participating in resturant week so they had a special menu offering 3 courses and they were all fantastic! We started with the cesar salad, I had the bourbon pork chop with housemade apple sauce and it was amazing. The chop was tender and juicy. The apple sauce was spiced well and paired great with the pork. My boyfriend had the trout with asparagus which was so flavorful, topped with panko, lemon and herbs. And then it was dessert time. They brought out a flourless chocolate cake for me in addition to the cheesecake that came with my meal. It was so nice of them, they even put a candle in it. The cheesecake was my favorite so perfect and fluffy. We also had the burnt creme and my boyfriend loved it. I highly recommend coming to the saint paul grill to celebrate a special occasion or just for a random day!

“A Very Nice Pre-concert Dinner.”
It was December and cold and we were looking for a nice dinner before a downtown Saint Paul concert. I called the restaurant and they suggested using their valet service and leaving the car until after the concert which turned out to be an excellent idea. The restaurant is a large and very elegant space. We were seated and ordered...
WhiskeyOne
Upscale American Cuisine with a simple menu but masterful execution. American food sounds like burgers and T-bone steaks, but with one trip here you'll discover walleye and chicken pot pie can rival the fanciest French dishes! If you know your food, check out their Calamari or Hot Shrimp. You will not be disappointed!
Brett Weaver
Ok, this place is solid. Do yourself a favor and order the pepper crusted lamb appetizer.
There are lamb entrees in St. Paul that don't hold a candle to this starter.
Of course, the ambiance and staff are top notch in case you haven't been to St. Paul Grill before.
If you're struggling on where to dine in St. Paul, this is always a safe bet.
Phillip Robles
After the flight I unpacked and decided to try the hotel's grill for lunch. I'm glad I did. Theresa, the waitress, was great. I explained some carb limitations and she recommended the burger and a side salad. As she delivered the food she explained that she removed the croutons since I was avoiding carbs. The bacon burger, minus the bun, was cooked perfectly. And the salad dressing was amazing. Definitely a nice first meal in Saint Paul.
Elizabeth Lewis
Great food. I had Trout and it was the best I've ever had. Sides are huge (feeds 2 to 4 people), staff is very friendly. The bathrooms are beautiful with great lighting... LOL
Linzy Browne
By far the best bar service, wine selection and steak I've ever had. If you're visit St Paul or plan this it's a must attend. Oh, and the bacon appetizer, delicious
Josh Quinn
Chicken pesto pasta was excellent, great wine list and fine cocktail menu. Didn't try the dessert but they all looked delicious!
Matthew Woods
I also ordered their mochi ice cream. It was standard, but I didn't like the addition whipped topping and pizzazz that they added on top. Mochi ice cream is fine the way it is, but that's just me nitpicking at this point. Overall, I would come again. I think the only downside is that it's farther away from the Mayo Clinic campus, so you need a car to get there, since it's too far to walk.
Favio Jurado
good place but not much to order from menu but amazing service very nice looking place
Andrew B
Great food and great service. Love everything about the Saint Paul Grill and the hotel. The atmosphere is unbeatable and the service is unmatched by any nice restaurant in the twin cities. Love the chard salmon salad
Robb Allan
Stopped in before the SCSU/UMD hockey game yesterday with friends. Sat in the bar area and Lindsay took care of us! Food, drinks and Lindsay's service were all excellent. Can't wait to go back!!!
Durks Garage
Decided to go there before a wedding reception for some apps. Our waitress was nice and attentive until she found out we were just getting drinks and a few apps, then she didn't really pay any attention to us. Our mojitos were probably the worst I've had....the cajun shrimp tasted like bricks of charcoal.... quite literally the worst shrimp I have ever had. The cajun beef bites were extremely bland. The french fries were good though. I was looking forward to getting some good food at such a fine looking establishment, but left extremely disappointed
Malena Ink
Nice restaurant, lovely menu and wine list. The Bar is a great space if there aren't too many people there, otherwise horrible acoustics, it seems that they haven't heard of acoustic treatment.
Patrick Kelly
Every time I go here it's an absolute pleasure. The staff members are true professionals (thanks Betsy) and the kitchen produces perfectly every time.
The only possible complaint I could reach for would be the turn around time at the valet station. With the occasional long wait times I still rank it 5 stars.
Joanie Mitchell
Great place for a date. Went last week and had amazing service, as usual. Wish parking weren't so expensive, but you can find a space on the street if you're lucky. We had an amazing waiter, John, who really made our night. Need to go back soon ...
Morgan Willenbring
Hands down one of the greatest restaurants and bars of all time. I have yet to find a better Brandy Alexander, and you would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgable and fun staff. Add in the history and you have a perfect combination of modern amenities, with 1920's class.
myron cooper
What a beautiful hotel. The lobby is exquisite. Our room is quaint, but has all the amenities. Fridge, kureg, microwave, flat screen, kitchenette. The authentic charm is everwhere. I love it. A beautiful bar by the fireplace and delightful piano music.
C L D
Nice place for lunch or dinner if you want an upscale restaurant for a special occasion. Gets a little noisy and loud at dinner time when it’s busy. Impeccable service but there are better options for quality of food in this price range.
Brian Dobbe
Very good brunch. Brought an 18 month old baby and the staff was very good with her. The free Carmel roll with brunch was a nice touch.
Luciano Menk
Excellent restaurant with a great menu excellent service. They just need to improve how they cook the steaks. We’ve ordered medium and it came well done.
Sheila Sullivan
The St. Paul Grill isn't cheap, but the food is excellent. The staff are class acts, and they mix great drinks. Plus it's just a beautiful hotel.
Aivaras Bakanas
Great food, soup was amazing. Bourbone burger was superbbbbb!!!!
Kim Borrell
Went here before a performance at the Ordway...A tradition!
Sarah Thompson
The food is amazing! The atmosphere is a bit stuffy, or at least it was the day I visited. The decor is very impressive. A bit pricey, but not unfairly... Just be ready.
K Glenn
The restaurant was busy, but the swordfish was moist and melt in your mouth delicious. I will come back next year. Charles the waiter was great.
Amber Gianera
Wonderful assortment of slow-roasted meats, fresh fish and chops. Also plenty of apps and salads to choose from. A great old time upscale steakhouse, perfect for a special meal.
Marissa Pitterle
This place is an absolute classic. Every dish on the menu is a great choice. You'll never be disappointed by food, drink or service.
Amanda Layne
We had our wedding day lunch at The Saint Paul Grill. The staff was wonderful and accommodating and the food was excellent. Would recommend the grill for any event or for a wonderful dining exoerience.
Chris Hauschildt
Food is exceptional and so is the ambiance. Unfortunately, the severe lack of affordable parking and the incessant road construction makes it a challenge to get in and out in under 2 hours. I guess the byproduct of being in downtown. Plus, $25 for a burger and water seems a bit much no matter how good it is.
Gary Lehman
Christmas brunch at the St Paul grill with our friends is always great. Excellent food, service and atmosphere
Jenifer Lokker
The best steak I've ever had. Service is absolutely wonderful and a first class experience all around. Request Ryan for the best waiter in the twin cities.
Greg Garritty
The St. Paul Grill has always been one of my favorite restaurants and I feel lucky to be able to dine there every time I go. The food was excellent and the service was very good as well, albeit a little slow.
Mark Tinucci Jr
One of the best places in downtown St. Paul to simply stop in for a bump and an app, or have a four course meal. If you happen to sit at the bar, and Wes will take the best care of you!
Katherine Traxler
Some of the best service I've ever had.
Mike DeLong
This is one of the best experiences I have had at a restaurant. The steak was outstanding! Hats off to Ryan for being an outstanding server! He took great care of us!
Todd Darling
Sat at the bar and had incredible service! Great appetizers..
George Cookus (Atlanta_cosplayers)
Quite possibly the most delicious steak I've ever had. The waiter was super knowledgeable and full of personality. Wish I could afford to eat here more often.
Peter Sanchez
Our family had a "pre-Christmas" feast here recently. Several friends had recommended Joan's so we wanted to see for ourselves what was so wonderful. Located along a stretch of Snelling Avenue that would not be none for fine food. The restaurant was converted from an old pizza joint with a decorating style you might call mid-Sixties Mad Men. Small and...
Cassandra Rose
My go to place for every occasion 🥰🥰love the atmosphere the drinks and food best ever
Sean Sands
Upscale but friendly and comfortable. The dinner is worth waiting for, and this is the kind of place you plan to spend some time enjoying rather than grabbing a 'quick bite'.
Carol Peterson
One can sit at the bar in the Grill or sit in the dining room! Price the same . However. The wait staff all had great smiles and good attitudes. Food was GREAT and well worth the price!
Mary Reagan
We had a lovely dining experience at the St Paul Grill last evening, service was wonderful, food delicious and ambience fantastic!! A great date night!! A place we plan to return!!
Olov “The Swedish Chef” Strole
I think they might have the best steaks in the Twin Cities. Especially the Prime New York Strip. They also have a great bar, nice bar menu and great service.
David Olson
The blue crab lump crabcake with dill aioli is delicious! I also had lambchops with the Jalapeno Mint sauce and a side of hash browns and found the experience completely enjoyable.
Quintin Koger Kidd (Jolly Old Phat Man)
We had dinner here two years ago on our wedding night (and stayed in the hotel as well). We return each year on our anniversary and as always the food and experience were great.
Chad Spilker
Phenomenal restaurant! Exceptional cocktails, amazing cuisine, and wonderful service. Highly recommend!
Alfonso Rivera
Service and food above my wildest expectations.
Randy Bey
Yah know, used to be a great place to eat a burger at the bar. The burgers were sopping wet with sauce, and three drinks, two burgers, a salad and an app put the bill for lunch north of $100.
Domanic B
Waiters and waitresses were very attentive. One of the waitresses grabbed my nephew and was showing him the kitchen. Lovwd it. Grab food but for a price. Worth the money
Mark Wall
OMG! Fantastic experience and absolutely best steaks I've experience in St.P!
John Byerly
Excellant food. But they blew it on the seating.
When seating people on a slow night do not place people next to the busing area..
What is wrong with the hostess for doing this.
Attention to detail.
Next time i ll speak up.
Chris Demko
Fantastic, classy restaurant. Excellent staff and delicious food. Great place for client dinners or a special date night.
Kevin N
Pricey, but good. Very nice for business lunches or special occasions. Great bar/whiskey selection...maybe the best in the Twin Cities.
Cari Lawson

A most romantic place for dinner. I proposed to my love here and she said YES!
Great food and service for a very special occasion!
Andrew Sean
Classic downtown restaurant with quality food and a classic atmosphere. A bit spendy, and not the place to just stop in for a bit, but good for a date or a night out for an occasion. Overlooks Rice Park, which can be either a good or bad thing depending...
Russ Battisto
We hadn't been here for awhile. They handled the brunch rush very well. Food served fast. A great outing. Thanks!

Beautiful bar and restaurant. Classic style. We only had drinks and appetizers but want to go back for dinner

Best bar in the world, and I would know! Get the steak bites. If you're lucky enough to be served by Theresa or Mickey, then you'll have died and gone to heaven!
Lori W
Very disappointed. Every other time I was here, there were no complaints, but this time the service was beyond terrible which in turn caused our food to be cold and dry. Bad experience!
Jimmy W
Jocelyn and crew are always setting the bar high every time I have the pleasure to come here. If you happen to visit the area and not visit this place, you’re missing out. Cheers!! TRUMP 2020!!!
Pieter K
Classical interior. Food disappointing. Caesar salad too much dressing and the crabcakes as main course too dry, not tasteful at all. Is there crab in it???
L Dumas
